"Sports at 15 and 45 powered by maximus. Moving people and innovation forward. What do you say George Wallace? All right, Debbie, I say it's report day in aspirin training campus upon us at players will take their own field conditioning test today and Ron Rivera will speak this afternoon. Let us know who's going to start to camp where and who will take some time before getting back, probably chase young and Logan Thomas still coming back from those knee injuries. We'll probably start on the pup list beginning tomorrow as camp opens with a 9 a.m. practice in Ashburn tomorrow as football is upon us. Now to just see and hear what the Arizona Cardinals and kyla Murray situations. Now we know he agreed to the contract extension worth up to $230 million and about a 105 million guaranteed at signing, but did you see that in that contract? There is a clause that says he has to have four hours of independent study per week. With materials provided to him by the team for the upcoming game. The fact that that needs to be in the contract is a little odd to me, isn't it? And you're guaranteeing the guy almost a $160 million. What does that tell you? They don't trust him? No. It's a lot of money. It's a lot of growing up in the film room. Correct. Right. There you go. That is kyla Murray odd contract situation national snap, the Dodgers 8 game winning streak last night, winning four to one to Juan Soto a couple hits triple and the bullpen 5 scoreless. Nats have won two straight Orioles beat the rays last night as well. George Wallace told me to help you sports

"The Arizona Cardinals through the 2028 season, he'll be 31 years old by then. Also, Kyler Murray is now the second highest paid quarterback by average yearly earnings. He's making on average $46.1 million a year. Now look, I do not mind Arizona giving Kyler Murray a big contract. In fact, I'm happy for the guy, like ran himself. I'm like, wow, he just got paid generational wealth. That's cool. That's exciting. I think you could argue he's already made life-changing money, but now it's like a whole nother level. Holy crap, his children's children are not going to have to work. It's incredible. And I ask you, for anyone, I myself am very skeptical of this contract. I go right really? Kyler Murray, that much money like I'm even in that boat, but I want to counter even my own thinking and say, well, let's pause and ask. You know, what are the Arizona Cardinals without Kyler Murray? And how easy is he to replace? I mean, look, there are some exciting quarterbacks in college football right now. But there's just not a lot of Kyler Murray's running around the league and I will say I don't think he's earned this contract yet. I think based on what he's done in his three years as an NFL quarterback. I don't see a guy who's worth $230.5 million. That seems absurd. However, as the years go on, he might eventually earn that money. He's super talented. I think he's one of the more talented quarterbacks in the NFL with his ability to run around. He's got a massive arm, but I just, I have a hard time going, yeah, this guy, Kyler. He should be the second highest paid quarterback by yearly average in the NFL. I just don't, I have a hard time feeling that way. What's going to be really interesting is in 5 to 7 years when we look back on this contract, are we going to go um, you know, they overpaid Kyler Murray, or are we going to say, okay, that makes sense. Is it kind of like when Baltimore paid Joe Flacco at massive contract? I mean, that one didn't work out at all. So we'll see. I'm really excited as time goes on to see how kyla Murray plays to see what Arizona does. And they kind of determine whether or not he ends up earning the money he's getting paid. You know, I will say, Kyler Murray's playoff loss to the rams in January. I think it was in January. It was really embarrassing. He appeared to lack leadership and he kind of wilted in a really big moment when you need your quarterback to show up. It would be really, really hard for me to give a guy I watched do that, not have leadership and really not show up in the biggest moment of the year. To give that guy $230.5 million. That feels a bit absurd, feels a bit hard for me. I'm trying to remember that it's a different NFL now and there's more money than ever before. Every quarterback from here on out that gets paid is going to be making more money than you can even imagine. It's just a different era of the NFL, but I'm still having a hard time accepting that.

"Guarantees. You're bringing in Kimberly Martin, what's more for some additional thoughts on this deal? Kimberly is you've gauged reaction around the league to this Kyler Murray extension in the hours since it got done. What has it been so far? Oh man, Phil, my fault is not stopped buzzing. And the reaction, I got to be honest, it's been mixed. Some people have said, well, of course, they've got to pay and look at that kid. He's got an exceptional skill set and he's very unique. Now, one GM I actually was texting with said, he did not think Kyler Murray was worth 46.1 million a year because of the lacking leadership as he termed it, and he thought Kyler came off as selfish. And the question he posed to me was, what does Kyler Murray done to deserve that money? More than Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen. He's second highest behind Aaron Rodgers. And I thought that was really interesting. But we're expecting some other guys to get paid like a Lamar Jackson. He's not the second best quarterback, but we expect him to be in that range too, right? So you're worth what someone's willing to pay you at the end of the day and the card up we're willing to pay kyla Murray. It's gonna ask you about Lamar Jackson there, Kimberly because while some have questioned why he is waiting for a deal to get done, does the news of Kyler Murray's extension and the figures where it was finished at, it strengthened the case for Lamar Jackson stringing this along further. So Lamar Jackson not doing anything has been the smartest and negotiating tactic there is. But I think it Kyler Murray doesn't really factor into this because you have the Desean Watson deal setting the market. When that deal got done, that two 30 million guaranteed when I talked to jams and execs, they said Lamar Jackson should just slide that number across the table and said, that's where we need to start. So kyla Murray getting a 160 million guaranteed, that's a great metric for Lamar, but the stage has been set. He can go in and say, I should be upward Deshawn is. Well, after extending GM Steve keim and head coach cliff Kingsbury, kyla Murray is now the latest major figure in Arizona to get a lucrative extension his for 5 years. "But the one that we know is going to have the longest ripple effect in this league is without a doubt that fully guaranteed deal for deshaun Watson. And I'm wondering how you see this playing out that there's going to have to be an owner in this league that stares at his generationally talented kid quarterback who he is deeply and madly in love with and why not because of how good he is and how to use the mail phrase clean off the field that he is and say to that person I'm not guaranteeing every single dollar I'm not putting that much money in escrow, sorry, right? I mean, that's the way it's going to go or an owner is just going to have to do this because the haslams just did for somebody that had 22 civil suits hanging over his head. What do you think? I think it's really hard to be the owner that says that. Although when we think about the quarterbacks that are now or within a year going to get those new contracts, we have some of the owners that if anybody's going to say it, they're going to say it. I mean, Mike Brown is, I guarantee you're not happy with what happened, and he's a year away from having to sign a guy that just carry a team to the Super Bowl. San Diego is a year away from needing percent Justin Herbert. Not sure what's going on in Baltimore, but they presumably like to sign the quarterback at any moment. These are mid revenue to low profit teams. And they bring the league back to a point where they were legitimate debates about whether low profit teams versus high profit teams was affecting the competitive balance in the NFL. So I know we're in the weeds a little bit for the average fan. But this is going to affect you and your team sooner or later. And it will affect a lot of quarterbacks. A lot of contracts sooner or later. And some quarterbacks right away. So the some owners are going to get a lot of pressure to do that. Whoever's doing the next deal. Because one deal, when you're negotiating, you can explain as an outlier an aberration. You start to see two deals with three deals of precedent establish now established and you don't have a case to make. So we've got a couple of owners, if anybody's going to take that hard position and at least postpone doing the deal, remember they could keep borrow for three more years and two tags. It's Cincinnati is the most likely team in the whole league to do that. So at least in terms of how far he took his team, they just had the quarterback that's the best of the group I just mentioned. So this is going to affect everything. And you're right. Not many owners are sitting with $200 million. They can just put into an escrow account. And I know that sounds funny to the public because it's so wealthy, but they're just not structured in a way that that's a natural thing to do. Or a smart thing to do, frankly, in most instances. So what about Arizona? Don't you think that maybe whatever last time you were on, we talked about that and I have it here still because again his stationary so impressive the calamari station area that Eric burkhart sent out his statement, his sort of Jerry Maguire type manifesto saying that my guy wants to be your quarterback. He wants to be paid appropriately. Don't you think that whatever conversations that chyme, Steve come to GM there and Michael bidwell, the owner is there that's had with Eric burkhardt, Kyler representative. Whatever framework was working on, got completely changed by the Watson contract. 300%. Not even a maybe or probably a 100%. As with every one of these guys that are coming up here soon, that are playing at such a high level. Everything's changed. Now, there is a compromise outcome. And it's dependent upon the quarterback, really. Because if you do a three or four year deal, now a Cleveland did is still problematic, but massively less problematic. But Cleveland did that we create such a problem for everybody if they went out 5 years, made them the top paid guy skipping Rogers contract, which was written in kind of funny way for the moment when I say that. Fully guaranteed the whole thing. And he's a guy that has a whole bunch of off field problems. You didn't even get the normal forfeiture of guarantee language that we get in contracts that have been played that have absolutely no questions whatsoever about their character. So it was the details of it that made it so problematic. Now, if kyla Murray said listen, I'll find a three year deal because I think the cap is going to go up in three years. I'm going to give him a big deal. He could give me now. I think I was always feel like they were lucky and they won. And then the amount of money needed to put in escrow and all the rest of the stuff goes down very dramatically. But I'm sure if I'm a player, I'm trying to figure out why in the world should Sean Watson get anything I didn't get. And again, I'm talking about the top guys when I said that the borrowers and the Herbert, but that will be the fight. I mean, they're sitting there going, listen, either you get a partially guaranteed deal at the right average, or we can give you a very high average and a fully guaranteed contract, but they'll say it has to be three years and then maybe they compromise it for. That's the only way these teams and these owners have strong philosophical objections what happened. That's the only compromise I can even think of, how do I keep this guy in his job bar? I'm not letting him go. But everything I've done for the last 40 years if my life is an owner of the team says everything Cleveland did is everything I don't believe in. Maybe they go to a shorter term deal as a compromise to at least get it done. And listen, there is an argument from the player's side with the way the cap is going to go up. Maybe I'm better going back to the market three as I got some choices if I want to go to another team, but this isn't the right place for me. And instead of waiting 5 isn't that the way three, I'm getting a fully guaranteed contract. And probably the quarterback is going to make even more money, three years from now than 5 years from now. It's not a crazy thing for a play to think of doing. And it will eliminate. It will mitigate the damage that the Watson contract did to the market as a whole. So, Joe, before I let you go, I guess I'm going to get greedy. And I will now ask you what march transaction do you think will affect wins and losses the most? And it could be on either an atoms goes to Vegas and leaves a whole top the offense for Green Bay. Anything like that, Russell Wilson, tyreek hill. I mean, the names were insane last month, Joe. Which one do you think is most? I'm going to put the shot aside for a moment, which I do think is the most consequential because it's going to affect so much in the future. I mean, my answer is question is Russell Wilson. I do not see the deterioration from what I believe is an extremely high level of performance that is some people seem to feel like they've seen in the last year or two..

"Have no lines. I said 9 with kyla Murray. I had 8 and a half. All right, so we'll scratch on off. The aforementioned Broncos. Yeah. Home for the eagles. And this is either three or three and a half for Denver. And I'm gonna say three. I said three and a half, and it is two and a half. So you get it. Two and a half. You can't even say this is a loser leaves town match because no. Denver at 5 and 5 could be still favored again when the division. Not favor, bud opportunity. What do you think is the winning record in the NFC? I'm sorry, the AFC west. Ten and 7? That's a good one. Yeah, all of a sudden it's probably you think anyone gets to 11 and 6? I'll have to look at the numbers, but so 11 and 6 for even the Chargers. What did you say they were? 6 and three. Chargers are 5 and three. Raiders are 5 and three. Chiefs and Broncos are 5 and four. Chargers 6 and four gets you 11 and 7. They have I know they have the Raiders. I know they have no it would have to be ten and 7, ten and 7 seems realistic. Ten and 7, sorry, yeah. 11 and 6 does not seem as realistic. Charge is Vikings, steelers, Broncos, giants, Bengals, chiefs, Texans, raiders, Broncos. Yeah, maybe maybe 11 and 6. The bills are number one and point differential in the AFC. Plus one 17. You know those number two? This is your patriots? Yep, plus 60..

"You need more receivers and are you. Are you committing fifteen scholarships truly to that o. Line or you can get away with it and we were in this. Rpo stuff and it's easier on lineman right. You've heard that rpo easier don't not to be great. Just gonna get in the way ends in you know kind of reference you know roster construction you rent reference scheme in that way like heck weimin. Today they don't even know if they do their job. Well just go out there and getting space walks inside zone and getting away or rpo. Just get the way like is there a you know an evaluative tool to project. No this guy's a difference maker for you And then i go back to david shaw conversations and david shaw when when the nc double a. past the rules of today's some kind of like the nfl. We're not gonna hit or take pads off. We're going to of walk-throughs and can have back to back two days and david shaw's like well. There goes the essence of what we do like that strain that leverage in that jolla scene at the line for we got callus. Our guys played low. And the way you do. They can do that in a walk-through. Sorry so i think there's different reasons for a bit. You know i. i have my over. The course of the season ryan on that may be more than anything else to point to why these behemoths are having a hard time gets tulsa while they're having a hard time against toledo by they're having a hard time for and at colorado that group up front man those five. That's half the team half your roster in it's a lot more of your identity right when you're a big physical nasty just punch you in the mousy front that sets the tone for the whole eighty five and when you don't have that you feel the chasm the difference between when you had it and when you don't okay last thought here i don't know how much tape you done on it because you haven't had either assignment but ole miss going in tuscaloosa here. Yeah we know the numbers. All mrs put up We know what lane is capable of in game planning and all that kind of stuff And look obama did something against florida. We've we've never seen under saving. I mean they got gas and they couldn't run the football that was it was twenty one three and then you're like what the hell happened with the rest of this game. It was kind of weird watching it. I don't know if it's the college thing where you're up twenty one three and your bam and you go. Who cares. But they the the thing that i would say when i looked at ohio state struggles defensively like okay and then i look at alabama's i go. These are two different things. Obama has the personnel to fix this next correct. Ohio state doesn't other to rock. Don't so i don't know how deep you can go on that game so taken anywhere you wanna go. While there's a couple of places i go i. I would love to be in that press box or on the sidelines before the game. Because i think you're going to have more. Nfl evaluators difference makers gm's at bank game. Then you will just about any other game in the regular season this year. I mean georgia alabama if they get there in the sec championship. Obviously but the matt corral like we can talk about o. Line and i. I enjoy doing that but we know what drives conversation. What's easy for the fan to digest. It's easy for them to digest quarterback right balls in an every play. You could see it. You can make that judgment really easy i. I can't wait to watch this tape of him. Because i think he's the most intriguing ben of jeremiah said it before the season the whispers around you know the manny can't all kinda got together you could see him down at the manning camp compare and contrast i test a little bit sam house. Arm was terrific. Montlake willis phenomenal athlete and in growing as a thrower. But most of the nfl guys preseason. We're like man this macro tape. Is i keep watching it. Like the students which e he is and he's got a little lightning in the bottle and the first game of the season back dispenser adler right and kind of your conversation about him. Elevating people people like him. Do they want to be elevated by. Are they believe in them. And they're still searching for some of that in norman with him to grow. You see the first game of the season stood out to me against the wall may be saying that wrong. How do you say any say louisville. I save i say louisville. You say little. Yeah think there's a way to say it's own. I apologize folks kentucky. If i screwed that up cardinals and player gets dejected. Are free for all mass player gets ejected and who's on the sidelines cochin. Who who's picking that defense up. Who's sitting on the defensive side encouraging. It's corral in a wasn't steak leader guy you can cut down. Yeah i'm about what a worse camera at. Let me go. Pat my guys on the behei. Come on let's it for the team. It was a genuine player. Gets ejected arm around him. Sit on the bench next to him. A man i got you. We're good and he's like net. You just don't see that a lot. That's a hard trait for today's young people to have as a leader. It's hard it's harder i think. Ever than ever before in this like and dislike world that we live in and talk to these coaches a lot about. That's hard to find someone that can be outspoken. It's willing to put themselves out there. Some reason that image just it stuck with me that game and then he just watch him play and distribute. The ball is on his twitter us in his run and his quickness in his quick release in his eyes and is i said man. This is one where he can. he beats alabama. We've we've watched meteoric rises of quarterbacks kyla murray become a number one pick baker mayfield become a number one pick right. We've watched meteoric rises of guys. Joe borough meteoric rise. We've watched it here last. Five six years macro goes to tuscaloosa takes care of the football which he's done this year he's learned to throw it away. He's learned to get down. He's not thrown five picks. He's not he's he's taken a significant step. He does that ryan. He's the he's the front runner now and heisman. Odds right i think he jumped even Bryce yonder is selling so thank you got one two and the heisman. Ha's right now he beats them. He's in new york city and even more for him. This intrigue of the nfl becomes reality. Like man i got a if we took zag wilson number to speak in a meteoric rise if we took him number two. What's the difference between zach. Wilson and mac chorale. That will be some of the conversation if he gets it. And that's where my eyes will be. And he had seven touchdowns against elaine. And maybe i'm wrong about lane in catching him twice this year. I don't think they're terrible. Their one zero three note. And you know they're in an oklahoma. That wasn't really fluky. I not they lost. Uab after they gave up a million points. Ole miss but. I don't think that that's that's not seven touchdowns against them. Fcs school where you're like. What the hell's going on and he could have had ten. If you wanted to like that right there right. I liked it. They pull them out that yeah lane train is. He's he's eccentric keys. Go mix it up. They couldn't kept him in. They could have steak. He could have ten touchdown. If there's a guy that you would have thought garage saying it'd be lane doing it. I get it in college. It actually drives me crazy now with some of the stuff like klay thompson gets yanked out of a game like now. Let's see what can happen here. So brock. I can't tell you enough every saturday man. When i catch you joe i was like you guys are just so good. Start to finish so check them out on fox and against sirius. Xm with the college stuff as well. What's the time there so people can catch you this week. Oh on the unserious. On radio on one to.

"The kyla part of it we knew the secondary was going to be an issue We felt really good about sex and again these are. These are just a couple of weeks samples of this whole deal but the fact that they would shut down at tennessee team with that passing game and jones and aj and then you see seattle. Couldn't defend him when they're trying to get back to that But minnesota did move the ball until the very end. They miss a kick that game. Couve clearly gone the other way emir. Assessment who arizona is right now the cuyler part of it and also secondary probably still scared of. Yeah i had such a tough time coming up with a strong take on arizona's coming into the season because you look at it the first half last year when kyla murray's healthy they have like a top seven top aide offense in the nfl and then he suffers that shoulder injuries and it all falls apart in the second half of the season. And so you're going all right bull. Is it a matter of just kylie. Murray being healthy or were there more issues there and i still think what worries me about the cardinals and i'm with you there like the most wanting to watch right now through the first two weeks every other plays a highlight. I'm a little worried. How much kyle murray has to do a quarterback just putting the entire operation on his back. That's what it looks like to me. They're not steaming things up. It's not easy plays here in there. You're not getting layups a lot of the time. It's just like only cow. How did he just make that play. He's doing it over and over again. So i wanna see that sustain a little bit longer and make sure he's healthy and that he's able to do that but man he he's been fun to watch and then defensively it's going to have to just be their pass rush making up for everything else with chandler jones and jj watt. I mean malcolm butler. The cornerback. Heat retires right bef- right before the season starts so they're not really talented back there but i will give their coordinator vance. Joseph credit i mean last year. They were banged up. They didn't have a lot of talent and by some of the advanced they were like the top defense last year. So he can scheme stuff up with their blitz games and the the other stuff that they do and so I've been excited to watch them so far. Can you just give us a little on. Jj watt the perception of who. He is as a player and actually who he still has been defensively. The i thought he's been really good through you know the to waste. I don't know what his stats are. But you see him making plays behind the line of scrimmage. He knows went to gamble. You know he's got the veteran savvy. I guess you could say my question. When they made that trade is just is going to be able to stay healthy because he stayed healthy last year. The previous worst seasons you missed thirty two games and so. You're looking at a guy in his early thirties. It's not likely that he's going to be healthy the entire season but when he's out there You know between him and chandler jones state. They've been pretty good. But i think the other thing even though he's missed all of those games that when he was playing he was still good. I feel there's two parts of it. You healthy so the public becomes sick of talking about you. But they're also holding you to the standard when you're defensive player of the year like he was. He's not that but he still. I just feel like. Jj watt still a lot better than people. Wanna give him credit for when he's out there. Yeah i would agree with that and the attention you see offenses give to him. When they're playing game. I mean that suggested offensive coordinators. Probably think the same thing. Okay so you were talking. Coordinators era vance. Joseph who do you think right now when you're talking to teams who are the guys considered the best endgame calling..

"Seven to nine three seven seven six and we are asking you this morning. What was the most impressive win of week to. Maybe some of the sound will convince you which way to go with that question. We're going to start here. Everyone was talking about james winston in the saints after week. One and they're beat down on the green bay packers. So what does it say now about the two and panthers that they beat up on the saints in week two well. Here's sam darnold after throwing for over three hundred passing yards yesterday. You know. i've always had a lot of confidence. That's never gonna change but just find completions and continue to move the ball down field could feel that's never gonna change out. No it doesn't but when you look at him through over three hundred yards in the air yesterday. But he had to straight consisting games and having to christian mccaffrey in in a dj robbie anderson a competent head coach offense coordinator putting you in the right position and make plays this is what you get versus what they get where they are not in long island more. They're now in jersey. Yes which you get in new jersey from the jets to change. Scenery can do or skill position players competent head coast. O'brady it helps when you have that. I mean yesterday for me. Honestly just just the jogging going on in our tex chain with evan. Wilner our producer. Who's a dire jets fan. And every other just. I know when you watch that. Wilson had the horrific game he had the other day while sam darnold continues to thrive in this offense. It just makes me hagler one day. They'll listen hard. Hit makes us off behind. Maybe after foreigners. This was the same defense kind of held. Aaron rodgers and check right the saints. I'm just the exactly how they only scored three points. The packers did for the record. I was fully in favor of them. Keeping sam darnold and building around him. I just one of the known as well too little too late. Let's move to arizona. Kyla murray became the first player in nfl history. With three passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown in each of the teams. I two games this season as the cardinals on desperately but did find a way to hang on against the vikings. It was a thirty four thirty three win yesterday. So here is the cardinals. Qb cuyler murray. Nine day i'm a suit. All out there slowed down for sure. Understand our offense. You know the guys understand what we're trying to do so you know we're we're moving as one for the most part we just gotta clean a lot of stuff. It's a long season So definitely feel great as far as you know command of what's going on all that types of hey kyla murray had a really good day jay. Yesterday i mean. Now he's in year three and that obviously is a big difference. Look the pairing of gus. Johnson column together of one of the most entertaining games. You can see in football. Any weaken out there but column. Look he's he's my favorite. David carr announced mvp candidates especially in a day where d- hopkins was held to just fifty fifty four yards. Those held in check. Carla murray knows the system. He understands what they're trying to get done from an offensive standpoint. My hope is that that defense can steal hold things together because their offense is going to generate points. There's no question about it but it's all about the defense when it comes to air raid systems systems whether it's college some similarities. In the pros are going to put a big numbers across the board but they always put their defenses in harm's way. Yeah but kind of murray throwing for four hundred passing yards something to be excited about if you're cardinals fan today okay. What about tom brady. Tom brady time. Not a thing he throws for five touchdown passes for the best start of his career. Okay he was twenty four thirty six two hundred seventy six yards again five passing. Tv's brady's nine passing td's through two games so far are tied for second most in nfl. History twenty patrick. Mahomes had ten in his first two games. And so this is the kind of company now. Brady just constantly keeps. It's unbelievable and so here's tb. Twelve head coach. Bruce arians greg grasp i saw you know and the way teams are trying to play us. He sees it early and they usually don't break their pattern. Even when the game back tight there was there was still the same so guys place when we still dropped some balls though it could have been a better output earlier that ended up being nice output but should have happened earlier and you had ki- agree. Well yeah you clean some stuff up those few balls. That was dropped out there. But you get those balls back. His completion percentage goes up second year in the offense second time around little cleaner. You understand things a little bit better much. Like coach areas. Say defenses won't change. They're going to do what they do. It as time goes on you. Find your counterpunch to them. And you dominated by putting up five touchdowns like tom brady yet. Tb is nasty guy. Give that a lot of credit to the defense so big shout out to them to pick six in the fourth quarter to split a whole thing open since the bye week last. "Seven to nine three seven seven six and we are asking you this morning. What was the most impressive win of week to. Maybe some of the sound will convince you which way to go with that question. We're going to start here. Everyone was talking about james winston in the saints after week. One and they're beat down on the green bay packers. So what does it say now about the to and panthers that they beat up on the saints in week two well. Maybe after foreigners was the same defense kind of held aaron rodgers and check right the saints. For the buccaneers they have not lost a game and and brazilian talks about how he's got a great grass with the offense. Tom brady does. I think a great crest down the stretch last year. Okay keys. mvp through two weeks delivered a big win in pittsburgh which is really really hard to do. Derek carr through for at least three hundred yards for fourth straight game dating back to last season and now has eight hundred eight hundred seventeen passing yards through his first two.

"That's what i'm going to open it. Because i don't wanna four with it because we do everything eleven ten and i'm gonna keep my eyes on this one but starts dropping. I definitely will drop it. But in a matter of fact even while i'm thinking about i'm gonna open at seven. What the hell is what i love. You make decisions right here. You gotta make them. Sometimes daria decided right now. But i think seven really is a better number. And that's what i'm open but of all the trends. Keep that one of my. You go from a home dog to road favorite. It's usually an over inflated price. If tyrod taylor stays in that game which rod taylor One of the has this amazing record of not coughing up the football by fumble or interception for guy who has talking about minimum number of snaps. He's right up there in the top. The history of the li. If he stays in that game yesterday they might just upset. The cleveland browns. They're right in. Yeah right in it i like. I said i'm watching this kid. And he gets zero credit. Probably a lot of guys rate them the thirty to the thirty second starting quarterback. He's better than that. He not bad for sure and even going into the season he was better than that. Like people have strange things with certain guys like ryan fitzpatrick listed. Snickers really really. He's like one of your worst quarterbacks. So funny how people sort of pigeonhole guys all right. So seven is that i'm going to open seven vine seven and a half pretty much everywhere in the world but we're gonna open seven and take a back. You think. sean can actually show for this. I don't think so. I think david i can't answer that. I don't know david kelly. What are you doing analytics analytics. What's the next one jeff sunday morning. I one cardinals. Jaguars cardinals jaguars okay. Arizona's one of the two knows as they survive. Greg joseph missed thirty seven yard field a win but they do not cover against minnesota. Yesterday they went at thirty four thirty three to cover. The four point spread their jacksonville arizona. Kyla murray twenty nine to thirty six for four hundred yards three touchdowns picks was that three to five carries for thirty one yards and a touchdown. He's just sensational to watch. He's just so awesome even though even the fact that he made some mistakes though. But rondell more seven catches for one hundred fourteen yards and a touchdown including one great eighteen yard pickup off a pass yesterday towards the end of the first half which allowed matt prater to get in sixty two yard field goal range which he drilled and that ends up being the difference of a win loss in this game. Four hundred seventy five total yards for arizona. They were minus two in turnovers in that game and still managed to jacksonville lawrence trevor lawrence. He may not be it man. Fourteen of thirty three for one hundred eighteen yards one touchdown to pick sacked one hundred eighteen yards jacksonville. Only had one hundred eighty nine total yards. They were minus two turnovers and their loss to denver in which they were out time of possession. If you will thirty eight fifty two to twenty one wait. I said arizona minus ten and a half on the road by high. Your high. i'm going to say. I like your number better but i might do for you. Yeah it's it's pretty much a blanket seven. I see seven half with big juice on the dogs. Evan my power ratings come to nine and a half now urban meyer. There's already rumors about him leaving. I hear a lot of the scuttlebutt but sounds like a lotta guys on..

"The guys just named all of them name. Maybe brady doesn't do that because he can't get away. But in terms of some of those strolls in the stuff that tom does you sit back. You just go. Okay being rothlisberger same thing. It looks weird because being a lumbering alone he could all of a sudden he the boss. Where you you like. Did he just do that. I mean russell. Wilson those type of guys individually i think kyla murray and i hate this offense. I think kyle murray will be that type of guy all of a sudden. There's a certain magic that happens with certain fields. Maybe that's straight talk. Straight talk wireless no contract so i still voicing ignore commerce. I've had happened. Let's hear from you on the dr pepper call online eighty eight say. Espn eight eight eight seven to nine three seven seven six. we're asking. What's your biggest overreaction. From week one. Mike in cleveland How you doing. It's not an overreaction. I actually tried to call all last week to let you guys know. 'cause jay will was real big on baker mayfield and i'm from cleveland and I have to deal with the baker apologised. I've been dealing with them for four years at the end of the day. Baker just doesn't get the job done. He had opportunity last year against kansas city. To put us on the back and get to the get us. The playoff wins. He went seven. Plays for twelve yards twice. Yesterday you had an opportunity to put us on his back and get us the win and he didn't do it again. Baker doesn't have any signature wins in his. Nfl career. he cannot get it done in. The browns will not make the playoffs at this was against the team. Just got to the super bowl last year. And i know expectations were for the browns to win this game. They were twenty two tenths. So i can see the frustration. But i'm not gonna sit here and say that the browns aren't gonna make the playoffs based upon a game where look man if special teams. You get a kick. If it's not wasn't off to the side you still find ways to be in. This ball game travis. Kelsey was obese. Get it but the defense still look good. It doesn't turn the ball over. it's a different style game. So they're right there man. I hear young and i'll take baker mayfield. Who's at young quarterback who yesterday was dylan. Twenty one to twenty eight without oh. Bj the interception. Mike us toward the end of the game but you also picked trying to pick on a first round corner that has some injury history of minnesota but if he stays healthy in kansas city. Marcus down max. Because i know you like. He's a top five corner. In the national football league he stays healthy quo. And you you you look at that and you got to say to yourself. Baker mayfield is giving cleveland browns. Exactly what they need at the quarterback spa. I'll say this though key. I hear you. I like baker. He's good the thing about the signature wins like he had that close game. Lamar with lamar comes out of the locker room. And what we what you just said but we were talking about. Mahomes roger some. That's not baker that dude's like if you're looking for baker to be that what he is plus that extra something to make that mahomes play. That's that to me. Does not look like he like you think he can become that the play the like like bellingham out of it. Yes he's never gonna be just maybe in a different way if the way. You said tom brady. Does it a different way. He's never gonna be athletically as gifted as patrick behold. We saw that when he was running from the police at oklahoma. They tackled him on on the curb. So we already know that. But i think baker mayfield is there to stay in cleveland. The cleveland browns fans should take a deep breath. in paul's. you're looking good. Turn your back on baker mayfield. You wish that you did. You got a good quarterback you've got an accident almost beat the chiefs. She'll she'll for a minute you you lose by you lose a few points on the road in arrowhead stadium kansas city chiefs. Who would defend the afc champions who lost to a tampa bay buccaneer team and some people would argue. If that offense align was attack. kansas city probably would have won. the game. Liked the callers overreacting. And i want to get to more of these overreactions. Little them to yours yeah. I didn't realize that hill. A coach who might be done after one game coach could be done after one game. That is that something. Because i will react to week. One on keyshawn j. max. We're going to overreact. We're going to have people are going to call in and give us overreaction that we see. We're also allowed to overreact. Why not espn radio. Siriusxm channel eighty. "You are so the That then i'm gonna come back at thirty six thirty seven and go chris carson and robert woodson. So sorry david don't get then. I'm gonna comeback again and go with an experts are sixty and sixty one sixty sixty one so i will go. There'll henderson cheat. And i probably would go at this point Rtc so this kind of interesting. You know still march sixty one Brandon i you could set sixty. Looks like Chase klay pool. Odell beckham are the next ones off the board. What about t higgins. Oh he's seventy one. Yeah so if you have a late pick and you have to wait until round the round five round five six turn basically to get your maybe third receiver. Do you like that group. Enough of jomar chase kenny. Golladay klay pool to higgins. You feel good about that as number. Three receivers absolutely yeah. It's an exciting. Digs woods to start and then that's my third absolutely perfect now. They're jamie take a tight end. He might take hopkinson with one of those picks. Five six if he's available. He didn't take a quarterback might take like kyla murray if he's available which you will be in our leagues arnot about in in your home leagues all right. So what i think is really interesting about wide receiver. This year is the Amount of great receivers. That happened to be on the same team same. nfl team. And i think it makes it pretty annoying when you look at the bucks when you look at the steelers when you look at the bengals when you look at the cowboys. I'm wondering if these situations are going to alliance the giants are going to ruin some potential fantasy breakouts. You know so. Let me get your sleepers breakouts and busts and i would like those i some overall thoughts on if you if you see the landscape the same way heath Because the players that i would typically target. You know what i like. I like to sophomore receivers who had nine hundred yards. Sophomore receivers general. I don't think the sophomore receivers are in good spots. I think most of them are in our in crowded situations or y- and other types of bad situations that are conducive to huge breakouts. Like what we saw from. Aj brown and decay metcalf last year and the andre johnson. I guess now. I wouldn't say johnson was in a crowded situation they just through so much So yeah do you. Do you think that it's kind of dampening the prospect of prospects for young potential breakouts. Yes you do. oh yes like. I don't think there's and what's going to happen. Is that one or two of them. And we don't have the evidence quite for it yet but one or two of them is going to be so good that it's just not going to matt it matter. They're going to prove that they are a top twelve wide receiver and that the talent around them is not something that can prevent that this most likely guy to do that's probably cd liam. Unfortunately he's being drafted as if it's just going to happen now. Right take a third third round. Pick and Topped wide receiver I don't i don't know who the second most likely is. Whether it's klay pool or t higgins. I think it's probably one of those two..

"Right and we're back here on the gmc fantasy football podcast for the final segment of today's show. I'm going to reveal next. Ten picks in my fantasy mock drafts. We are now in the fifth round of my fantasy mock draft. So let's get right into the next ten picks in the draft so with the next pick to start off the fifth round. I have josh allen. So i just wanna kinda say something really quick. I have cuba a lot of. Qb's in this next round I have about. I have six. Qb's so they're gonna be the qb takeover for today's Mock draft while the next ten fixing my mock draft. So i've josh allen You know at a really great season last year at the bills was fantastic. You know was the best q. And fantasy last year. And i expect him to do that again. you know the more that i do have some conversations with people the more i am kind of a little bit hesitant to say that just because you know that was. We had a great season. Don't get me wrong. And i think he'll do better again but you know it's hard to replicate that season you know looking back let. Let's talk about like patrick mahomes. You know his first season as a starter had fifty touchdowns and then the year after that he missed a couple of games because he got hurt. And i think he. I don't know how many touchdowns he had. But of course he had less than fifty. I don't even think he reached thirty. He might have had. You might have been in the thirties. S either late twenties. High twenty s You know like low thirties. I think i don't remember what it was. Yeah so you could see the same thing about josh allen. We could see the same thing with him But i. I don't know i feel like you know the addition emmanuel sanders. That's going to help them out. You know i mean. I think he's still going to be a top you know he's going to be a top five. Qb if not top three if he's not gonna be top five But i do expect him to be very good you know. He's got a really good team around him. He's got good receivers of course with stefan digs you know with emmanuel sanders coming in cold beasley. You got dawson knocks tight end so you got some playmakers around you. So it's hard for him not to succeed in this offense But yeah i expect him to be really good once again and to be you know one of the top. Qb's in fantasy this year. I expect him to be one of the first. Qb's taken off the board. That's the other thing. I expect them to be one of the first. Qb's taken off the board because you know people are gonna look at him. You know his season that he had last year. And it's going to be one of those things you're just gonna wanna get him first because he was the best last year in. You anticipate that. He's going to be the best this year. So yeah josh allen then. After that i would say herbert goes next. Feel like i liked herbert. A lot last year I definitely expect him to do well. Here you know. Starting over the course of a full season. I love what they did in the offensive line. In the off season bringing guys that are going to protect justin herbert. I think that's going to help him out tremendously. And i think he's going to have a great season because of that because he needs to be protected and he's got like i said he's got really good weapons around him and you know i it's it's gonna be hard to defend him. You know. got a great arm. And i think he also helped know keenan allen now and back on the map as dependable fantasy wide receiver. Because i think a lot of people forgot about. How good keenan. Allen was you know because of the seasons that he was having prior to last year and now he's kinda back in the conversation as a top fancy watc- really top fifteen top twenty wide receiver. Obviously you have mike williams. Who when he's healthy. He could definitely be a good wide receiver to and i do like that. They did bring in. Jared cook as well so you know. I do think the chargers are going to be a. I think they're going to be a playoff team this year. I i do believe that. And i think herbert's gonna be reason for that. Another key thing is the fact that also actor is coming back again. He dealt with some injuries last year. And you know. I think a lot of people were disappointed in the season that also had and you know. I think that you know when you look at her. You know. I think he's a guy that of course the pass catcher in i think he warns you know some fantasy a lot of fantasy value is particularly npr and have pr leagues. And i think he didn't do the best with herbert. but i definitely think in year two with herbert. I think he's gonna do a lot better and as long as he stays healthy. You know that's gonna help them as well so i think herbertson do really well. I think he's got a great supporting cast around him. He's got a good offensive line now. I i think that you know he's going to do really good. And he's going to be a top fantasy quarterback this year as well so then moving onto the next player on this list For my fantasy moctar kyla murray and kyla murray you know was better last year Through six four touchdown passes. And now that i think about it the entree hopkins had starch. Downs and kyla murray had six more touchdowns and he did in his rookie season. So i you know. And that's something. I've been talking about forever. You know about the de'andre hawkins having more touchdowns and kayla marie increasing his touchdowns and increasing by six hundred geometry hopkins had six receiving touchdowns last year. So yeah that's what. That's what the hopkins brings you cuyler brings you. Six additional touchdown passes But i definitely think tyler. Murray is gonna throw thirty plus touchdowns this year. I think he's gonna pull back in terms of his rushing touchdowns but i do think he's going to do better this year than he did last year. I think especially with the andre hawkins. I do like that. They did bring. Aj green i feel like aj. Green can make somewhat of an impact And obviously you do have christian kirk there as well. So i feel like keiler is going to be atop. He's going to be top three fantasy. Qb this year. i think regardless Because of the mobility. I do think he is a good passer. And i just feel like the cardinals they. They're gonna be right there this year in terms of being a playoff team as well. It's going to be very competitive. But i think they're going to be a team. That's going to maybe sneak into the playoffs this year and finally get over the hump but yeah i think that calamari going to be a top fancy. Qb this year. I think a lot of people should look towards trying to get him on their team because he's pretty good. He's a pretty good fancy quarterback. And i think he's going to be that once again so moving onto the next player. I'm going i'm going to be heavy. And the next player is a guy that is by far the best quarterback in the nfl and there are no questions about it. And that as a man by the name of patrick mahomes now. I think a lot of people are going to say you know kenneth. Why do you have match mahomes at number four on this list. I just feel like listen. Mahomes is the best quarterback in the nfl by far. There's no question about it. However i do not think he's going to be the best fantasy quarterback this year and that's fine. Listen he's still going to great if you get him the great but i do not think he's going to be the best fancy. Qb this year. And that's it. I think it'd be best quarterback in the nfl as usual. I do not think in terms of fantasy. He will have the most points by the end of the year..

Is Russell was at the Super Bowl, getting the Walter Payton Man of the Year award sitting with the commissioner, and he's watching Patrick Mahomes, the future of the sport and Tom Brady. At age 43. And he mentions Tom by name that he's watching Tom Brady, who said, Hey, I'm leaving New England. I'm going to Tampa and I'm gonna bring in some players Antonio Brown, Rob Gronkowski and Leonard for net So in one year during a pandemic, no preseason, he cobbles together. Some other guys to join him in this lineup, and they win a Super Bowl and Russ is probably going What am I doing? What are we doing? We are we attendant 16 like is that where I'm headed? I'm always gonna be 10 and six and then we're going to struggle toe, you know, get into the playoffs or win of opening round game and what's my future here? What's my legacy? And that's where you start to think about it. I truly think yesterday when Russ was talking about it. It dawned on him is he's watching a game that he's never in person watching a game unless he's playing in the Super Bowl. He's watching Tom Brady gone. Why can't I do that? But do that now. Does he want out of Seattle? I don't know. This feels like it's more of a message. This is Maura of Ah, subtle way of doing what Aaron Rodgers did, because Rogers you went. I don't know what that message is, but he's sending a message. But Russ Russia is trying to say something without hurting people's feelings. But I truly believe he looked at Tom Brady and said. That should be me. Why is it to Shawn Watson was supposed to get a say in what was going on with the Texans. She's six years younger than me. You know, Kyla Murray wants to have some say here, Aaron Rodgers wants to have some say here. Why don't I have any say in what's going on in Seattle? Offensive lineman. And then when I brought up the report by CBS sports during the Super Bowl coverage, where Jason Locke and Forrest said their teams who are calling Seattle About possibly trading for Russell Wilson and I said to rust, Do you think teams have called about you? Yeah. I definitely believe that God calls for sure. I didn't think that You know anything Anytime you're, you know, you know, Ah, player that tries to produce every week and has done it for, you know consistently. I think people gonna call for sure. And I think it's part of the process. But your franchise quarterback your Hall of Fame quarterback. You're not available or you Well, I'm not sure if I'm available or not. That's a CEO expression. But also I think for anything else is, um You know, I think the end of the day you want to win. You know, I play this game every day to wake up to win. You play this game, you know, Toc the best in the world. You know, I know what I hate. I hate sitting there watching other guys played again. Yeah, And he mentions Tom Brady by name. He mentioned LeBron James name. And you know these air guys who helped orchestrate a roster. Tom doing it famously in Tampa, and LeBron's done it a couple of times in his career, obviously easier to do if you're you know, person of the prestige and power of LeBron James And you only have to manipulate the roster to get one or two guys in there, But I do think that Russell Wilson saw his future. And didn't like what he was seeing when he saw Tom Brady on the field, winning a Super Bowl 43 for Russ, who says he wants to play 10 to 15 more years, he not going to end his career in Seattle. Just not gonna happen. And he has to understand that nobody ends their careers where they start. It's really rare..

"Your voices is recognized around the country. And your enthusiasm and passion for the game of football is obvious on DATs. The one thing I didn't see a whole lot of just from a very from a obviously, from a novice fan's perspective last couple of weeks, they just didn't bring it. You know, honestly, yesterday I thought the intensity level was so much better, but going back to the San Francisco 40 Niners game two weeks ago that to me Really, really bothered me, bro. Watching that you just watching the 40. Niners basically lineup offensively and run the ball down the throats of the Arizona Cardinals. That really bothered me because They had a third string quarterback in CJ. Beth Heard that there were starting out there wasn't Jimmy G wasn't Nick Molins there? Back up. It was the third string quarterback. Basically, the only thing they could do is run the ball for the most part in that situation, and that's exactly what they did in the fact you couldn't stop him. That bothered me greatly When you look at yesterday, and the play in game win and you're in, I heard you were in the pregame talking about that mentality. What is it that they didn't bring? Because we had a We had a backup quarterback in They had their third string quarterback in things were pretty. Even What did we not bring? Yeah, you know, honestly, I just It was the playmaking ability that we've always seen from the likes of calamari. You could see when collar. Murray was in that game, right the difference and how they were able to move the ball COLUMN. Murray when he did play through the ball very, very well. And I think that is a conversation that We've all gotta have about Kyla Murray is how bad was he hurt? I think he was definitely hurt. I know the injury. Morgan Fox came down with the knee right on that ankle right there. You could just see it through. That was bone on bone, baby. If he doesn't let me just say this if Cuyler Marie does not have a hairline fracture or some type of fracture, I'm going to be stunned. Today. If we find that out if he gets an Amar I done and there's nothing structurally wrong with that. He is a tough player. Two. He is not a kid that's known as soft. He's a tough kid. Here's a kid that will tell you right now. He'll he'll be the first one to tell you doesn't like contact. But all I know is this. This kid is lined up for 32 consecutive starts. He came out of Oklahoma. Everyone is like all of the kids. 5 8.5 is 5 8.5, and he's He's £198, and he's not gonna hold up in the NFL. Well, we all found out. It was 5 10 in an eighth and he was £207, of course, and he's played in 32 consecutive games. The kid has gone out when he has been hurt. I don't I don't question this kid's toughness. I don't I question his maturity. He's got to continue to mature as a franchise quarterback on this team. He's a young kid. He's only in his second year. Give this kid some time. Who's the leader on the defense? Or who needs to be the leader on the defense? Because it seems when the need when they needed to make a big stop. They're unable to do it. Yeah, there doesn't seem to be that voice on that defense. The Darnell dockets of that team there anymore. Can I tell you right now, Jordan Hicks has had an up and down season the mike linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals. He's had an up and down season but coming into this game, knowing what kind of game I thought it was going to be, because the Rams are starting John Woolford Ah guy that had never thrown a pass in the National Football League because I thought there were going to line up and try to run the ball. I said Jordan Hicks is going to be my ax factor. He's going to be the guy that's going to get everyone else lined up, because that's what a Mike backer does. He controls that box gets every Buddy lined up in the box Buddha Baker's taken care off the secondary. Jordan Hicks is getting everyone else lined up the physicality. They needed Jordan Hicks to be that physical presence inside. Well, what happens on the very first play of the game? He makes a pick as well. It's just a great read. Great read of John Wolford's eyes and jumping that that was a horrible pick by John offered by the way, but that to me was the X factor that Jordan Hicks brought to the table and then guess what happened. He got hurt. First quarter and was out And so the cardinals were suffering pretty badly. Let's shift to the talk. That happens every time the sea when the season ends Larry Fitzgerald. Yes, I know Larry Fitzgerald. Okay. You know what? I'm going to say this right here for the last three years, bro. I've been saying every year. Larry's done. Where is this is Larry's last year? The Larry's Don't so I'm going to do it. Ah, fourth year in the road right here. Larry is done. Where is not coming back? Just knock it off. He's not coming back. And Larry, if you're listening right now, you better come back. I just don't see him going out this way. Cove in 19 Seasons fans. Not there If there's a guy banged up, Yeah, and if there's a guy that deserves a victory lap around this league for the human being, he is and what he's brought to the game. It's a Larry Fitzgerald. Yeah, I would agree with that. I hope he does come back. I absolutely love this guy. What a class act he truly is and a joy to watch play this game. One of the greatest of all time. I don't care what position you play. I'm talking about a great football player and a guy that didn't shy away from any contact. And what's interesting is that most people have been around him would say he was his equally good human being as he is a football player. Absolutely. And that's why I think if, in fact he is done playing, I think more than anything else. It'll be that desire to go out and start career number two. That won't get him going and headed in that direction. There's a guy like Larry Go to the broadcast booth. Does he go to do something else? I was gonna go do some, like, you know, go work for humanity somewhere. Yeah, I don't. I don't see him going to the broadcast booth immediately. Maybe at some point in time, But, yeah, I see him on safari, for the most part. Taking a bunch of underprivileged kids also, look at the elephants. You know, I did some work with safe into the Paul feeding and you know, one out there for Thanksgiving one year and Larry showed up with a bunch of people and what was so interesting about it was that everybody Larry brought with him jumped in to help. Well, they were just standing around for pictures. They all jumped in to help. Larry was meeting everybody, but everybody worked. It was a cool thing to see. You know, it really is..
"kyla murray" Discussed on ESPN Chicago 1000 - WMVP
"Just tell your smart speaker to play ESPN. We are shaking Jordan Cornett. Thanks for hanging out with this week, 17 In the NFL, there were seven playoff spots up for grabs. Some of those have already been accounted for. Some have not Let's get to some score updates and let's start in Chicago Bears David Montgomery. Was evaluated for an injury, came back into the game and then had two yard touchdown run that gives Chicago and early seven to nothing lead. So the fast start Chicago no doubt was looking for. So now it is up to this Bears defense to slow down Aaron Rodgers in the Packers and Aaron Rodgers take the field about five minutes to go in the first quarter. Let's see what's going on with Arizona and the Rams. That brands all right out now. Elaine Jonathan Ward had 11 yard touchdown reception that puts Arizona of seven Nothing early. Reminder here, Kyla Murray did leave the game will keep you posted on what's going on with him. Chris Street blurs in now for Kyler Murray Cuyler Marie banged up a little bit this week, Cliff Kingsbury says he's going to go And then early on in that one, he's injured and goes to the locker room for street. Lear's by no stretch of the imagination, Cuyler Murray, but he is a mobile quarterback, and a lot of what they try to do offensively. Doesn't change too much. You're not getting a pocket passer that eliminates the zone read in the QB run game. Traveler does present that just not at the elite level that Kyler Murray does Wen healthy and playing his best football, But they don't have to scrap the game plan. And we again don't know Kyla returns but just a little heads up that at least what systematically they like to do is not deterred. So right now you see John Wall for going up against Chris Traveler in a must win game for the Rams and the Cardinals. Okay, but we put 2020 behind us. That's what's going on right now also must win game for the Colts. With the Dolphins losing the Colts can go to the playoffs. If they beat the Jags today, a reminder the Jags did did beat the Colts. In week. One, However, today might look different. The Colts are already up seven. Nothing was T Y Hilton, who had a six yard touchdown reception and gave Indianapolis Ah lead already in the first quarter. About five minutes to go right now in the first quarter again, Indianapolis already on top seven Nothing also in New Orleans. They are looking for the number one seed in the NFC. They could get that number one seed. With a win and a Green Bay loss and then a Seattle win. Right now. The Saints are already up seven. Nothing over the Panthers, Jared Cook had an 18 yard touchdown reception that gave New Orleans the early lead. J. How much time is left in that New Orleans game? It looks like five minutes and 50 seconds to go in the first quarter so far, safely and seven up and 5 50 left in the first. And if you remember the saints don't have running backs today. Alvin Kamara tested positive for covert 19 and due to contact tracing most of that running backs room is out. So Drew Brees is gonna have to do it with. So you want your weapon, which makes it more important. Want that by just for protocol's sake to me to get tomorrow back Camaro back on the field, You know you're running down your playing all your running back so Does factor in that might becomes that much more important. No doubt about it s oh, that's what's going on right now. Elsewhere. Charges and chiefs are all tied up seven apiece, their chiefs arresting their starters and what will be almost a three week rest for them. Must be nice. So tied up right now. In Kansas City between the Chiefs and the Chargers seven apiece. Broncos and Raiders are tied up at three apiece right now. No score yet between the Seahawks and the 40, Niners Seahawks also in the hunt for that number one overall seed to get it. They would need a win today over the 40 Niners, and then they would need a New Orleans loss and a Green Bay loss. Not out of the question, but they got to take care of business today against the 40 Niners. Titans need a W to get into the playoffs against the Texans. And right now they're up three. Nothing So the Titans are up three. Nothing. Titans would clinch A F C south title with a win or Colts loss. Colts obviously clinch with the wind and the Titans loss. So the tightens up over the Texans three Nothing so far. In this game. Lot of playoff implications going on that will continue into the night. The on Lee Night game tonight would be the Washington football team taking on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Washington football team wins and they are in if they lose, it will be the Giants that will represent the NFC East because the Giants Beat the Cowboys earlier today. Speaking of the Cowboys, I saw Jordan the Andy Dalton had a cut on his hand or something that was bleeding through his glove. It will require stitches per Mike McCarthy. Not that it really matters, though their season has done anyways, I just thought I would Fill you all in on that. So that's what's going on in the NFC East. Lot of playoff implications right now on the line for a lot of teams that are playing. What do you think happened SIDE with? Washington, Washington, Philly Keep in mind filling, not playing for playoffs. Jalen hurts playing. Let everybody know that they've got their quarterback, and it's not Carson went. Yeah, I agree with that. I just think Let's say you have guys that are on the cusp of playing and like you might rush him back. If it was a game, that means something, you might sit him if if, if it doesn't. There's a lot of players that are kind of like that for Philadelphia, because they've been decimated by injuries so much this year and so I don't know that they're going to play. All their guys actually know for certain they're not going to So even though you have Jalen hurts, that has something to prove that Washington football team defense is so good. You get Alex Smith back. I just think there's a little more heart on the line with the Washington football team. I think they take care. Of the Philadelphia Eagles. Let's take it back to the game. We know where your heart lies. You got the Chicago Bears a win. And in this scenario verse the Packers here Packers playing for the one seed, so they're still playing for something. Aaron Rodgers, you're gonna see him for the full 60. What do you think happens in this one of the utmost importance for Mitch Robiskie? Not just for playoff hopes, but for him to show that they declined 1/5 year option in Chicago. Now they're gonna go and pay him. Because he's got franchise quarterback vibes to him. That's what's on the line that first of all I'm seeing. Roque Juan Smith is heading into the injury tent, which makes me very nervous because linebacker for the Bears D is very important to that Bears defense and the Bears defense. It's all hands on deck to try and take down Aaron Rodgers and this very potent Green Bay offense. What I think is that there have been reports that your risky could possibly stay in Chicago. I am fine with that. If he beats Green Bay and wins a playoff game. You want to back up the Brinks truck for him? No. I mean that's not the scenario here, but you will have the opportunity. Potentially say Is this the best deal for he might be feeling suitors, depending on how he looks in this game. This is appointing on if they get to the playoffs. How he looks there. It's a place you would have never thought we would have been in when he was benched for Nick Foles, and even in his return because he feasted on some lesser defense's It's a capable defense is I mentioned statistically, the Packers are top 10 defense. These have playoff vibes because it's when you're in scenario. Mr Muskie's back is against the wall if he comes out here and shines So you might be looking at mention Chicago for a few more seasons as your starter and as your guy in order to be the starter in Chicago, you need to start competing with Green Bay. You need to start beating here and riders in this Packers team and it starts today..
Why Athletes Want Trademarks for Everything
"Sir ryan. I'm super curious. How did you land on trademarks as something to write about in the first place. Well i was actually working with as an editor on a story. Earlier this spring about the buffer brothers ryan hawkins smith is an editor and writer for espn dot com and he reported on the rise of athletes seeking trademarks which saw an enormous uptick in two thousand. Twenty michael bruce buffer Most people know the michael for let's get ready to rumble. Yes we work on this story. We discovered some numbers that we thought could not be right and the numbers were that trademark alone. That one sentence that michael says in the ring may have netted the buffer brothers north of one hundred million. Maybe three four hundred million dollars over the years but yeah it was bonkers but it checks out that one phrase it's a business unto itself like one of my favorite details. We were working on this. There's a website for michael buffer and. Let's get ready to rumble where you can go and rat out people you have seen or heard using that phrase get ready to rumble and in return for being a horrible internet informant. They will mail us some buffer merge and then they will pursue legal action so i was just thinking as i read all of this. I got a dive into this world. I need to know more. So i want to be very clear about this. Then what's the motive for filing a trademark ryan. If you're an athlete so a lot of trademarks can be quite lucrative. I bet we ended up talking quite a bit about the ones that make a lot of money. The vast majority though are athletes protecting themselves protecting their trademark. Just in case because the reality is when you think about hail murray as big play as that was and as much as it it resonated in the sports world like how much money. How many t shirts saying hail marie are. They actually going to sell like if they're lucky. What fifty thousand dollars. It costs a couple thousand dollars to to get an attorney and to get a trademark so it's actually a really bad business plan most of the time but it makes sense that you would go and protect your athlete like the last thing i think a manager or a business advisor wants is to have to come to kyla murray after murray says hey why am i seeing coffee mugs outside the stadium that have my raise and picture on them so it's mostly about protection. This is also an industry that you say has been not only connected to sports and athletes for decades and decades. It's also changed in the past decade or so. How did that come to be. There's two answers. The short basic answer is that good athletes have management people around them at bigger teams than ever think about this stuff all of the time but i go down a rabbit hole about the more meta answer which is applications went from two hundred sixty nine thousand in the united states in two thousand eight to twice that in twenty twenty Oh a small number actually athletes. So this is a society thing. And so the wormhole that i go down is just how much humans are more cognizant of the idea of celebrity and individual branding than ever before and you could point to social media for some of that. You can point to the kardashians. Maybe even donald trump as examples of successful personal branding

Bengals at the Combine in Indianapolis, taking a closer look at Joe Burrow
"With us here from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis where we will be all week so much going on. I'm waiting next with Adam. Schefter Louis Riddick Todd mcshay and Mike Tannenbaum just to catch you up right now. Here's what's happening today in Indianapolis. It will be a very busy week. At Five o'clock eastern though owners are expected to meet players to talk about the new CBA which could expand the playoffs and move to a seventeen game regular season. We've got forty seven. Nfl head coaches and GMT. We'll be talking today. You're also hear from SEC. Standouts Joe Borough and to a ton of Aloha who also addressed the media earlier today. Jonesboro put on an absolute show as you know on route to a national championship for Lsu setting an FBI. Single season record with sixty touchdown passes and Ditto. While completing a whopping seventy six percents of his passes and not only that but bro won the heisman trophy in dominant fashion receiving a record ninety point seven percent of the first place votes here. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.
The Bears ended an 'especially disappointing' season with an especially disappointing press conference
"Ryan Pace. You're on the clock despite a disappointing season for Mitchell trubisky. The bears announced that he is returning as the team's starter in twenty twenty. There were however some some changes. The team fired four coaches from the offensive staff including offensive coordinator. And then you look at what happened. The last six weeks of the season season. And this is what I think. Gm Ryan Pace has had on you look at the record. Obviously passing yards. Everything improved but dominique. Are you really buying this statement. Because because from my point of view on the outside looking in D- in the Arizona cardinals say you know. What Josh Rosen Guy? By the way Kyla Murray were drafted number. One I'm glad we got Tannenbaum Outta here because in general managers lie that was a general manager generally lying I at least I hope it was because would Mitchell trubisky show like. It's hard to come back with this guy. Considering the way that he performed. I know we got better in part because the coaching around him got better. They started moving out of the pocket and running the ball with a little more. That's encouraging however it's hard to. It's it's impossible to argue that. He's not wildly inaccurate. And that's tough in this league to be wildly inaccurate. Like he is and I
NBA Draft 2019: Latest 1st-Round Order, Predictions
"And ladies and gentlemen, we have a new mock draft out Mel kiper Jr's three point. Oh is here with us. And we are looking forward to the draft. Mel will join us in just about an hour to talk about the new mock draft. But there have been some changes in the draft specifically one less quarterback. Now going in the first round then in mel's two point oh mock draft. So we have four in the two point oh mock draft with Daniel Jones from Duke rounding out of the last pick of the draft to the patriots in the first round of thirty two. There are only three quarterbacks now in the first round, according to mel's latest mock. And obviously a retirement might be a big reason why and the quarterbacks have changed as well. Right. As far as where they're they're going. Well, Cuyler he still has Tyler going number one derozan. Well in his last draft Cuyler going number thirteen to the dolphins. So now and this draft he hasn't going number one. He had. Dwayne Haskins going number six at a giant Kyle Murray. Going number thirteen to the to the dolphins. Drew lock going fifteen to the Redskins and Daniel Jones going thirty two to the patriots. So as you mentioned Daniel Jones now out of the first round, according to the latest mock draft by Mel kiper, just three quarterbacks Murray number one. The main says Dwayne Haskins at number six, and you start to hear reports that the giants may go defense was six and then was seventeen go quarterback. But right now twain Haskins at six and then drew lock sitting there at number thirteen for the dolphins. Does the only three quarterbacks in this latest first round. Yeah. Going to be very interesting because we know what the giants listen one thing. Dave Gettleman has made very clear he does not feel beholden to tell us his plan. And so I don't feel overly beholden to believe. A lot of what we're hearing coming out of the giants can't because if you've got a guy who's basic messages trust me, I got this. Well, then we understand he doesn't feel like he has to tell us the truth. So as we hear these things. Coming out. We also understand this time of year is about deception to an extent it's trying to manipulate the draft order trying to manipulate the opinions of certain players. So that you can try and put yourself in the best position to get the guys you ultimately want. So it makes it difficult to try and read the tea leaves it is although I have to say on cattlemans behalf. He said all of last spring saquon Barkley is a generational talent with the second overall pick. And that's where he went. Look, I think we all agreed. There has to be a quarterback in the giants future. Whether it's at six or seventeen trade now Cleveland, but it would not surprise me in the least if Dave Gettleman waited until the second or third round to take a quarterback this Dave Gettleman, he created that created, but he he made the term a more of a vernacular in the NFL draft hog molly's when he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers. He loves the big guys to hog mollies. And let's be honest. This draft is going to be decided outside of Kyla Murray. More than anything else about the big defensive lineman in this draft. The hog Molly is on the defensive side of the ball. So depending on your draft grades for your quarterbacks you could take one of those at six and then a quarterback at seventeen it all depends again on your on your draft great. If twain Haskins is highest on the board and draft grades. You don't pass that up. If you have a Dwayne Haskins drew lock. And whatever other quarterback equal in grades. You know, maybe use that seventeen pick baby can trade it up somehow to get one of those guys as I said, this always comes down to grades. Do. You have a choice amongst grades. Are you close enough in quarterbacks where if you don't get one you try and get the other? But we'll see we'll see, you know, one of the biggest changes in from the last two this for Mel was they had the patriots taken Daniel Jones a quarterback, and this one I serve Smith junior the tight end from Alabama going, and that would not be shocking at all you have really three out of the top tight end Hopkinson the kid from Iowa teammate, Noah Fant, and then Smith junior all three likely to go in the first round a three first round tight end to on the same team come on. And what would that tell you as we saw? The patriots jump into the first round and take a running back and Sony Michelle at the end of that. And now to see in the next year three tight ends going. We've talked about this. However, you want to split it. Last year were Quinton Nelson. Went in the top ten in the draft as an offensive guard. We saw roquan Smith going the top ten as a middle linebacker. The middle of the field is worthy. NFL is being built right now. And other teams are starting to catch up to what the patriots have done for years. The way that we've seen teams export that specific area and three tight ends in the first round would hammer that home not denying that. They are guys that are certainly probably more talented than usual tight end groups. We're used to seeing but it's also about value. It's why you see running back taking it to overall by the giants last year. I mean, the other thing is I think they're more interior linemen in this first round then quarterbacks right? Like, a not tackles guards and centers. There are more of those according to males latest mock than there are actual quarterbacks being taken which would be very unusual. So the top five in this new draft that Mel kiper put out is Kylie Murray. Number one of the cardinals Nick both the D N number two to the forty Niners. Number three. Josh Allen the outside backing backer pass rusher going to the jet number four Cornyn Williams. To the raiders and number five guy making a pretty big jump. Devon white going to Tampa Bay at five in the last mock draft he was number eleven to the Bengals now in mel's draft. He is sitting at number five number six twain Haskins seven Joon Taylor. The offense attack from Florida going to Jacksonville sweat, the D N going to the lions at eight Sean, Gary the D N going into the bills from Michigan and TJ Hopkinson. The tight end going to the Broncos at number ten. Here's here's what I wanted to talk to Mel about and one of the issues that I have laid on me big fella with with this draft comes, you know, some some point and one of them is there are few prospects in new first round projection who are making their debuts because of their combine performances. There are four guys who have jumped into mel's first round who weren't out there before again based on the combine combine performances. I don't understand that. I don't I don't understand that. If you wanna say. You looked at the combine to go back and look at tape of them. But to say, they're combine performance jumped them up that doesn't compute to me. Well, I think that's I think that's the assumption though, is because of their performance you went back and look and that. That's fair. That's why I want to ask them. How did this? Make you go back and study them more. Because if you're just basing things off the combine I got a real issue with that. Yeah. I I don't think you would do that or teams. But at the same time, you look at the positions of the majority of the players that would be involved in that. And I think this could be true for teams as well. It's interior offense. It is right. Three interior offensive linemen Terry McLaren the wide receiver, but when it comes to interior offensive lineman. You wanna talk about an area where the scouting grossly lags behind to actually great and overall draft. It's a difficult area for a lot of people to see and understand because you don't have the benefit of a lot of stats. You don't have the benefit of even the combine members necessarily always translating to production. So when those guys go and they paying and they flag in the model somewhere for what they do at the combine. And then you go back and spend some more time looking at a guy like Lindstrom who wasn't going to be a big name. He wasn't like, you know, Gary bradberry from North Carolina State won the Remington award this year. Like that guy was a stud Boston College was a middling. Okay. ACC team this year. So Lindstrom wasn't getting the credit. He deserved even being as good as he is. So you go back now, and even these NFL teams, maybe we're late to the party on some of these guys all of a sudden start giving them an extra. That's why I want to ask I just wanna make sure with Mel that because I'm just reading from the combine performance, and again, let's put a name. To those you mentioned McLaren the wide receiver who is one of the others. Chris Lynch reminder, you just mentioned from Boston College now. Number twenty one to Seattle Eric McCoy interior linemen going number twenty two to Baltimore. Right and the Garrett bradberry. The Senator from North Carolina State who is you mentioned one the Remington award is the best center in the country number thirty one to the LA Rams where they have an aging center, and John John Sullivan. And that was that was one of the things have been saying for the Rams the last couple of years that dynasties been built on the interior. If you land a guy like that good, Lord or you winning out it is. So we'll see how that plays out. Now, the one thing that I find interesting he he has drew lock the third quarterback Mel dozen his latest mock going thirteen in Miami. I'm telling you don't take out Denver at ten in Cincinnati of eleven in play for quarterbacks. I mean. Yeah. Denver made the play for Joe flacco. But John Elway has messed this up a couple of times with all due respect. I mean, that's just outside of getting Peyton Manning. He has not figured out the quarterback spot there at ten they might be in play for quarterback. And you have Andy Dalton with his situation with the Bengals and his contract situation. I, you know, I think that there's a really good chance that they could be in play with a quarterback there, by the way, by the way, Mel kiper Jr's mock draft not the biggest item related to the draft this week. That will have news for you guys. What more on that coming up later? This week
NFL rumors: Kyler Murray seen 'universally' as No. 1 pick in 2019 NFL Draft
"Right. So the NFL combine is about evaluating talent getting ready for the draft. But according to the NFL network, it's done. Done vision has been made on who will be the number one pick in the NFL draft. In fact, it's so certain now that teams that are picking in the top ten of already given up on the idea that this person could be available to them because it's done. He will be the number one pick in the draft. Now, if you don't know the cardinals have the first pick in the draft, and according to a consensus overwhelming consensus, the decision has been made the Arizona Cardinals with the first pick in the NFL draft will select. Cuyler Murray quarterback Oklahoma. Now, here's what they're saying. In terms of Murray, people are beginning to believe almost universally. He will be the number one pick of the cardinals impact team. Speaking of the top ten believe they have no chance of drafting Murray. He's not the biggest quarterback in the world. But he is very big presence at the combine. Now, remember Arizona drafted quarterback last year. Brown named Josh. By all accounts, is is sort of a throwback to what used to be considered the prototypical, you know, quarterback the size and everything else like that. No. That's not a throwback at all. Steve. I I I I would agree with you that there are certain offenses like we see every single season that are going to employ more mobile looking quarterback running a style offense that is different from what we typically see. But the majority of the NFL is still running an offense that is tailored around the need for a pocket passer who can understand complex offensive systems who can read defense's in throw to the open, man. And so I don't think he's a throwback at all. I think he's he's really sort of in line with what a lot NFL teams are looking for. And so you're suggesting that the Arizona Cardinals are going to be looking to trade Rosen. Well, here's the deal. Now, this gets back to the hiring a cliff Kingsbury. You know, how it is? It's a copycat league. So this all came about because clip Kingsbury coach Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech, by the way without much success. I mean, they were they weren't a top team with Patrick Mahomes as a quarterback running that Texas Tech offense. I mean, he's putting up these numbers that we saw for years. I mean, granted guys all these other guys at tech stack, including clip Kingsbury himself back in the day pouring up these big numbers. But because he coached him. He must know something. I mean, he he must have some of that, you know, Patrick Mahomes magic to him since he coached him, even though he got fired by Texas Tech. But now, here's here's what color Murray said about cliff Kingsbury, he says coach Kingsbury, I know the type of offense he Razzie recruited me out of high school. And I have a great relationship with him. Now, if I were to play under him, I think it'd be a great deal. But I don't get to pick players. I just show up. And I do when I supposed to do obviously be. Very comfortable how it operates the offense. So there is this belief that with kings varies offense that Kyla Murray is going to be a superstar. Now, if you're the cardinals organization, you have higher clip Kingsbury a guy who has a losing record as a head coach at the collegiate level on a flyer that somehow the magic we saw from the breakout superstar the NFL this year. Patrick, Mahomes has some connection to clip Kingsbury. And he could do it with another quarterback that runs a similar style offense as Oklahoma does. And with Kyla Murray, by the way, who set an all-time NCAA record this year for passing efficiency breaking the record. A Baker may have from the previous year and the exact same often. So I ask you right now if you were to put Josh Rosen on the trade bloc. What would he garner or do, you hedge your bet if you're Zona keep Rosen just in case Murray is what you think he is. This is what I would do. This is what I would do. I would either a I would check in with cliff Kingsbury. Make sure that things are going good between he and Josh Rosen as far as sculpting an offense that both parties are comfortable either way. That's something that you're going to do on a weekly monthly basis with your quarterback coach with your offensive coordinator, certainly your head coach who has an offensive mine, and is going to be calling plays most likely if you get the indication sometime before I dunno April first that you're not able to run an offense with Josh Rosen. You look to trade them you look to trade him. I mean, and you start shopping that sooner than later because here's the deal. Everybody's got their war room. Everybody's got their draft board. Everybody is kicking the tires on these prospects. Josh Rosen has played a year and then F L. Now love it or hate it. We've seen what he looks like at NFL level. We've seen him against NFL talent. So now it's time to strike while the irons hot this decision needs to be made. So I would say you still have a month before you have to make that decision. But but the clock is ticking.
Is Kyler Murray the best running QB the NFL has ever seen?
"Said this earlier arguments say it again, and I know a lot of people are going to disagree as they runner. Cuyler Murray is the best running quarterback. That's. Ever come into the National Football League. Even Michael Vick. You can go back and watch which I've done you can also look at the stat sheet. Kyla Murray in his last season or his last two years at Oklahoma average, two more yards a carry than Michael victims and his career at Virginia Tech. He's just a little bit more dynamic because of his short area. Quickness. The last thing I would say is he's one of the best passers to go along with that athletes as runner that we've ever seen. His accuracy is off the charts not quite Baker Mayfield. But it's off the charts. If I'm in the top five, I'm taking Cuyler Murray dudes of football playing Jesse. And you gotta understand that those who are are thrown off by his size. I remember war dome when he came into league and that was listed at five nine one eighty and every defenders listener chops off can't wait to get on them. Play twelve years league, three pro bows? And I never got a square shot on them. And I never seen. Anybody? Get one. Is this like you sit. Yes throws. That's short area space when you get into. That phone move with that guy. And you think you have all the vantage because of your size that quickness he's gonna take four steps before you take your next one, and he's going to be out of there. And I think that's going to play think the real interesting thing for me is always think about the fault mechanisms of the quarterback Cam and the default mechanism if your default mechanism is from the neck up, you'll survive even being smaller, even being athlete gifted even being able to move around. If you're the fault mechanism is from the neck down. You're in trouble. Meaning I'm just gonna take off and run around here and throw my body throw caution. My my body to into harm and all those things they're caution to the wind like if that's your fault mechanism. And so then it comes down to who's actually a gifted quarterback because the gifted quarterbacks when things break down Bill extend the pocket, they'll move around. They'll even escape the pocket, but they're gonna make their decision from here up. Joe and Kenny do that. And I think he can. Yeah.
Eagles' Wentz has stress fracture in back; no surgery needed
"Recovery. Time estimated three months outta college football and plenty of ball action today, Las Vegas bowl number twenty one Fresno state basing, Arizona state, Fresno state, head coach Jeff Tedford sizes up the opposition understand going into this game. We're playing a great football team. Very well coach in all areas of the game, very explosive. It's gonna be a battle. We understand that we have a lot of respect for the Pac twelve conference and Arizona state. And you know, they played very very hard kick off at three thirty eastern time. I'm Peter Schwartz. Football season. Which is why you need Sunday morning football tomorrow at ninety s- turn with me DA on CBS sports radio. Hi, this is Dan Patrick catch me. Weekday mornings seven to ten on the home of the best sports talk in Colorado. Xtra sports thirteen hundred. He's arena he calls. It. The bullpen. Come late in ten. Hang brew. Another hour. We add the booze show us. Adam the bull back our number three. Adam the bull of you here on CBS sports radio. And we're coming to you live from the Quicken Loans studios. National mortgage lender. Quicken Loans apply simply understand fully mortgage confidently. We'll continue our NFL conversation. Sam Monson pro football focus lead analyst Sam how you doing? What's going on buddy? I'm doing great excellent. You know, it's funny this week. I heard I don't know if you heard this. But. Greg Williams who to me. Why don't really work in Cleveland locally in the week? And I have no desire for Greg Williams to remain the long-term coach Gregg Williams. I think he's about as old school is old school gets and he referred to some advanced analytics this week. And I almost was brought to tears Sam because well, I think I think that all sports need to have a good balance between old school scouting and new school analytics you'll so many old school football guys are so hesitant look where we are in baseball. Now. Right. The sport is completely run. Everybody has an analytics department in basketball and football is dragging their feet a little bit more in some organizations, but the here an old school coach like Greg Williams referred to some advanced analytics. That was that was wild for me to hear it must have. I don't know if you heard it. But it probably would've made you happy. If you did. Yeah. I think you're right football is behind baseball. And how that kind of stuff is gone, but everybody understands that it can help you how you present it to all of these people know, so head coaches are often the last guy to get on board. But it's because you need to present it to them in in the right away. Now, there's a ton of ways that say the PS database can help is those guys. But if you come to them initially where you know, something they don't wanna hear they're not going to buy. But if you immediately show them something, you know, a fancy pretty grasp the chosen exactly what they've been saying for years, suddenly they're all on board. So I think a lot of teams the league you're just starting to sort of see this time where the analytics guys or people that have been using the stuff within the Bill. Building for years are finally starting to figure out how to present it to coaches added presented to general manager is and you know, the guys bad again in front of the media. And that's when you're starting to see this filter out. I think it's been used a lot within the building for years already. But now we're starting to see those guys use it on a daily basis and get the headline stuff sent to them in a way that they're they're much more comfortable with gesturing at an and actually taking it on board. We're talking with Sam Monson pro football focus lead analysts Sam. Baker Mayfield has had a tremendous season. As a rookie as put up some big old school numbers if you will. But when when you went from a pro football, focus perspective when you guys run the numbers on what he's done. How would how does he great out compared to some other rookie quarterback's of the past? Yeah. I think you do need to go to quarterbacks with a pass because he hadn't shoulders above any other rookie season right now. He's a top ten grade quarterback in the NFL. He's tense overall. Just one physician behind Russell Wilson. So you're already talking about it really really well graded player right off the five. And obviously pro football focus was very high invade your Mayfield coming out were the guy is the winter by for him saying that he was the best prospect in this draft in it really wasn't close to the next guy. I think so far. That's that is being born out. We have seen better performances in the past rookies. I think that twenty twelve season was a pretty incredible year for rookie performances. Obviously it didn't last because RG three in particular had a phenomenal season that year, and then tours and really hasn't been the same player since. But you know, Baker Mayfield is looking as good as we've seen any rookie quarterback. Look probably dating by twenty twelve season. We're seeing some really impressive play from him. And I think his play generally has been better than even the statistics suggest because you had one of the highest rates in the NFL right five and drop rates. And unlike most of the times when a receiver drops the ball, it's an incomplete passes. It's not doing that much damage to your passer rating, or whatever but Baker mayfield's have multiple assets that have been hit his receivers and my hands and ended up as interceptions. So those are taking a sledgehammer to operating over the course of the season. It's ninety three. Point four right now. And this is a season where passing is exploded operating ninety three point four is nice great at the moment. But it's his performance has been way better than that. We're talking with Sam Monson lead analyst pro football, focus Sam, let's talk about another rookie and that saquon Barkley who probably be battling Baker Mayfield for rookie of the year. From an offensive standpoint. There's been other good rookie running back but saquon Barkley make over two thousand total yards this season. How does he compare to Todd Gurley Leonard four nets and some of the other big rookie seasons from running backs? Yeah. I mean saquon Barkley just moved into first edition CFS running back rankings. He's the the number one guy right now through the through part of the season. He's been incredible. He's been everything that everybody who was championing him saying he would be coming out. I think he's been better than we thought. He might be there. The idea that he was a perfect running back prospect that don't think really holds up work holes in his game in particular. This tendency to to be a bit. Reggie Bush in terms of wanting to balance everything outside to look for that clay, but he's gotten a lot better in his first year at not doing that at taking ugly yards when they're there. And that's all there to be had. And it's still maximizing goes explosive plays getting huge games. Those are there. So he has been fantastic. I think again he's been as good as any rookie running back the receipt for a number of years. Really? He's I guess he's played as well. As Alvin Kamara did last year as a rookie on he's done more fulltime base. So he already has you know, two hundred more snaps than Kamara managed all last season playing that same kind of rate is Amari Cooper. Has memorial Cooper's play been much better. Or is just a the players around him made him much better. I think it's a bit of both, you know, playing wide receiver it so difficult to play. Well, if the ball isn't coming in your direction off the ball is coming in your direction in attachable manner. Having you can do about it. There's only so much fancy route running against air. You can do if the ball isn't coming your way. So I think we're seeing Amari Cooper was always a quality route runaround player that would get consistently open. And now we're seeing what happens when you target that guy. He's still a very good player and I play put up big numbers. And obviously, that's that's meaning that his greatest better because he's being given the ball and that talent is being maximized. So you know, I think that that was always there that that talent that play was always inherited his game. Even in Oakland. The raiders just weren't making use of it. We're talking with Sam Monson pro football focus lead analyst. Sam. I know you guys today had an article about projecting Cuyler Murray's pro potential. I'm curious because obviously he's a top ten pick and major league baseball. He's giving compared to Ricky Henderson. He signed a four and a half million dollar bonus. There would have to give it back obviously at a even a better year than Baker Mayfield did this past year in college, which is hard to believe. But obviously, you know, people make a thing about the thing about Baker mayfield's hike, which I thought was over rated. But obviously calamari isn't even close those big as as Baker Mayfield. A what is his potential d do you think he could be a good NFL quarterback? I think he could be, you know, you're right people that the highest the big question Mark because people did make an issue out of Baker Mayfield. Tighter on Baker Mayfield is short for an NFL quarterback. But not, you know, it's not unprecedented. We've seen quarterbacks Baker Mayfield type successful in the past. They're not obviously, not as many as there are as you know, six with three quarterbacks, but those guys have existed and they've been good in the past. I don't I don't know that we've ever seen quarterback that is Kyla Murray's Hite house significant success at the end up, right? You know, he is going to be when we get the official number on him. If it ever gets that far he's going to be significantly shorter than even a guy like Russell Wilson. And you would be in legitimately uncharted territory. When it comes to that. Now, if you're going to do that, you have to be there has to be something else to say, well, okay. That's not going to be a problem because of this and his grading has been incredible. His is great this season at Oklahoma has been basically everything is as as good. As Baker mayfield's grade had been on that was the best we've ever seen from a quarterback, right? The best seasons we've ever seen at college with one of his own. So he has a level of the best play. We've ever seen coming out of college from a college quarterback. And we've been doing this going back to two thousand fourteen but we've seen some pretty good quarterbacks over that's fine. You know, we went back, and we also graded James Winstons freshman seasons. We have got Carson Wentz you got Jared Goff. We've got right. And they got all these guys and Carl Amari stacks up to those guys. Sorry.
Kyler Murray second straight Oklahoma quarterback to win Heisman Trophy
"Angeles. Steve sicker. The winner of college. Football's Heisman Trophy is Oklahoma quarterback Cuyler Murray he received over five hundred first place votes compared to about three hundred for the runner up. Alabama's QB Tuitonga by lower Ohio State quarterback. Dwayne Haskins was a distant third among the six voting regions across the country. Kyla Murray of the Sooners won five of the
Heismanheisman And Kyla Murray discussed on Jalen and Jacoby
"Someone you probably won't see in the Super Bowl Oklahoma quarterback Kyla Murray. So he is in the Heisman conversation. I mean, obviously to is far and away the Heisman favorite, but you know, calamari being New York he'll have a suit on and he'll be considered. And he is a pro level quarterback. Like he could go in the draft and be a professional quarterback in the NFL. But here's what he had to say about that decision. He also played other sports. I like, but as far as. That's the plan. He was drafted by the as we got a four point six million dollar signing bonus. So Jalen, rose baseball or football. What do you think about this decision for Mr. moss moles, and I appreciate your maz-? Maturity I was in college before you could Google any of the footage. I was not that polished no not that disciplined that young man understands who he is. Like forget sports like he will be successful. Like, I just see that trait and certain people saw Victor depot sorta CJ McCollum e you talk off wack, and we interview them like he got it. He got it. And the reason why I say that is right now he's playing on a team. They may be in college playoff this season. Right now.
