"Free age. Aloha one and all. Senator Kurt Favela joins me coming up in the next hour. Looking forward to Kurt because of news reports over the weekend. And I just want to get down to the skinny. What actually took place. Kurt was there and he'll join us a little bit later on my kitchen stolen stuff. Hawaii will be at nine. Amy Ross of the V eight at 9 40. So there you have it. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, moms and dads. It's a pleasure. Have both boys in studio. Dr Allen Falkner, Christopher Faulkner. Lo Ha Laser vision, although have laser aesthetics, But you're always kind enough to spend additional time to talk about. There's some other health things going on. Oh, yeah, I know. Stuff float in the air. Yeah, read about and etcetera. Rather Chris. Good to see you, man. Good to see you, too. How was your weekend? It was excellent. A lot of family lot of violations of social gathering. We breathed on each other. Oh, boy, we may have taken drinks out of the same top. Once in a while, so I'm waiting. What's the statute of limitations on that? Is that for Covid? I think it's about five days after about five days. You're okay. There we go. That's it? Well, it's one of the better statute of limitations. If you really want to think about it, I think the most important thing let's get The most important stuff out of the way, Okay? Thursday. The official launch of football of the NFL, you know, and I was thinking coming in listening this morning that You know the world so funny? How what used to be our tradition of our age group growing up? Doesn't exist anymore. And and one of those true traditions was summer started with Memorial Day and ended with Labor Day. Right American today that was, you know, you went to school Tell Memorial Day and then you started back up after Labor Day. And of course, with year round schooling and all these things that doesn't really exist. But you know, for me, Labor Day always marks the end of summer and the the beginning of fall. Going into winter, you know, are terrible. Hawaiian winter, she brutally pay them their brutal But, um yeah, I thought how exciting that literally One weekend is Labor Day. The end of Summer and the next weekend is football and we're here. There we go. We're here and remember, you used to be Sundays. For those of us of a certain age. Thursday is now the official start. It's going to be a good game. It's a good way to launch off Dallas and Tampa Bay. Uh, One team may have a bit of advantage over the other. You think? I don't know? I mean, is it just the same cast everybody returning. With T b. I know. And then you had Ah. Tom Brady given is Yeah. Yeah, go with yeah, by the was after we have the boat parade. Yeah, well, all right now it was probably on the Lombardi Trophy passed around. Yeah, everybody was kissing it. I thought that was just a hangover from all the tequila. He drank on that boat. He was doing pretty well. Yeah, he didn't look so good. Getting off the boat that look like full fledged Kobe surprised Covid. I'm surprised Covid could live in that. Seriously. That's the mess Calvary in. Yeah, Exactly. Yeah. I mean, you're supposed to be how I kill it with 70% alcohol, right? I'm doing my best self medicating. But Sunday, of course, the first official weekend and of course, the first official New Orleans game is not in New Orleans. Of course not in Jacksonville. Jacksonville. Yeah. Yeah, but you are taking on and please, I am praying that you absolutely destroy the Green Bay Packers. I don't think that's happening. Ah! But we'll see. Do they have a quarterback? Do they sign Rogers? Yet? He's in our friends are he's been here and he's been getting to me about this Packers game. Self, uh, he's normally the naysayers until Something good happens And he's like, yes, the saints and then the disappointments at today's like, Why did I go back to the same? Yeah, Srp is definitely one of the fastest quitters. Yeah, on the ST side. Yeah, The love is so strong. It's rats Start about first quarter. Yeah, So is he, a member of the French military is that he retreats. Anyway. So what do you think? I mean, how do you During our first house, the team. Look how the saints look this year. Uh um I think we'll be okay. I think there's going to be a lot of new things obviously know Drew Brees. Um, that's going to probably be the biggest aspect in terms of like locker room chemistry. You have a guy who's been in the league for 20 years who comes in first thing every day, last one to leave every day. That's kind of Hard precedent to set for new guys coming in there. But from what I hear, James has been doing a really good job of that. And you still have Sean Payton and you still have. The defense is supposed to be really good. Um Now some people say it's the best defense that we've had. Peyton Yeah, Supposedly we have a bunch of linebackers in this guy Kwon Alexander, who played for the 40 Niners before he tore his Achilles at the end of last season, and it's somehow ready to go weak one. Which that's that's incredible. I don't even know like Achilles injury Doesn't that normally take at least a year to hell for athletes, and this guy's already already back, So I hadn't played yet. I watched him in the training is like this guy is cutting it. It was pretty incredible to watch just coming back from an injury like that, But Division should be pretty good. So that should be excited. Uh, and I mean not to give him not to give him any more excuses than they ever need. But, yeah, Unfortunately, the Saints did get a little bit evacuated out of New Orleans to Dallas. You know, they've They've all had very disrupted lives for the last couple of weeks. But maybe that will be a rallying cry for the city. I think it always will either be a rallying cry for the city or everyone will be like that. Yeah, one or the other, not a rally behind that. That was no rally will be more of number one, The number two there. Was was a dome affected at all with the storm. I don't think so. You know it was. You know, I like we talked about when we were here last week or whenever it was, that is really a wind event. Not a water event. And, um, I just got off the phone with Justin, who's still in Florida. Um this morning, and he even though a lot of New Orleans has power back, there's still a lot of red and he said, unfortunately one of those still in the red and has no power. Now this is going on two weeks. Yeah, that's amazing. If I were him, I'd rather be in Florida hanging out by the beach, then in New Orleans, sweating and working so yeah, he said he said What? Seaside? He was just telling me how they're so A new house on the beach that they built since Covid. It's um, Looks like a hotel. It's $14 Million single house on the beach. There would be 117 million here. Yeah, something like that. Yeah, well, they wouldn't have built it yet, though, because they're still waiting for permits. Well here. They did Start one in 1972, and they're on the brink of completion. That's exactly it has been cut in NFL season is going to be great, but we got a lot of other stuff on the agenda today. Uh, Crisford tell us all about, although how laser vision and aesthetics, So just give us a call..

"Yeah it's going to be so much fun. It was fun watching the carolina. Panthers stink it up this year It's really going to be fun watching the saints. Be horrible for the next few years. I'm just gonna enjoy the mess. Out of and i'm going to join the out of the panthers stick it up this year again okay. Let's talk a day. Did the saints did. Sign a right tackle. James hurst to a three year. Three million dollar contract So they are shore up their offense a line. I guess a little bit. Let's see what. I don't know where he played before he's got a purple jersey on so that makes me think that he baltimore was. Yeah yes he played with baltimore. Sure number get a shack is what they're doing. Yeah no kidding. oh okay. He played with baltimore and twenty twenty in them. Well a numb. He was released by baltimore in march of twenty twenty and an sign. A one million dollar contract last off season with new orleans so it looks like he's got the party had james hearst but it looks like a backup so bring him back. They liked him apparently Let's talk about defense. Because their defense is a frigate mess. It's like worse. I don't. I don't know if it's worse than their offense. I mean that's pretty bad when you don't have your you lose an elite quarterback like that They have been attempting for the last few years to build a linebacker core to no avail and so this year in free agency. They released kwon alexander who they had hoped was gonna sure that position up and of course he cannot stay healthy. Them's the huge shock to me. So they officially released him. It cleared thirteen point. Two million in cap space. Good lord. Thirteen two million. Yeah there were paying him that much. Yes what is up with these teams men then the forty niners do the same thing they just give them a big chunk of money. I think that New orleans had traded with san francisco. I.

"He has that speed element that the Patriots desperately need an overall. I would just say playmaker and I don't think the Patriots have enough Playmakers on offense. I think Samuel is a playmaker. He plays downhill even for his size. He plays physical so I think it could be a lot of fun in the Josh McDaniels offense. Yeah. I I think that's a good name. That's a that's a name that I threw out there at the trade deadline for them to get on the final year of his deal and then, you know, maybe you recoup the, you know at the worst. You know tough time differentiate but how much better in terms of how much spend and to be a bird's already been here and he works in the office often, you know, but your points well-taken. He's a good football player. He does a lot of things and I would be fine with him. They're all right next on your list another casualty Kwon Alexander linebacker. yeah, this isn't this is a very interesting situation because I this is a guy who was traded around the deadline from San Francisco to the Saints and then only played like a game or two with the Saints and got hurt and woke up on his way to getting a big contract. There's a chance to get cheap and on the rebound. He's a linebacker. He runs all over I think if you can get a good a good price on him, excellent like to plug in the power happens in the draft, but he's football player played in the 3/4, you know, sort of Lifestyle scheme in in San Francisco with what they do there. I think he fits what the Patriots do he would be a guy that I would add at linebacker. All right. We have a couple of guys that mirror each other. So I'll just go with one more and it's on the defensive side. I get you a couple of offensive guys Dalvin Tomlinson. He's one of those, you know, Nick's three 320 defense of tackles a legitimate run-stopper and I think he gives you help next to Lawrence guy who I think you do bring back. So to have the the double team of Tomlinson and guy, you know, Whether you rotate them from time to time, whatever you do, you need another guy mowing is not going to be the person you need him to be you need somebody to play in the middle of that line. I know you've brought up, you know some other names. I know you've got other names as well that will get to I've got Dalvin Tomlinson as that defensive lineman run-stopper that this team I think desperately needs.

"Three word game looking for three words, just three describing the eight remaining playoff teams in the NFL, and their season will start here. The Kansas City Chiefs Cape Take it away. Um, flip the switch like this is the only team that I have seen that has been able to flip a switch. Like they seem like they're really comfortable when they're down, 10 points from or that they flip a switch. Next thing you know, they go up by 20 points. They're leading you 31 to 10, and then they just kind of shut it down for the rest of the game. This is a team. That if you jump on them early, you might be able to have a chance. But they're a team that can flip the switch. And with the athletes that they have in the outside, they can flip that switch so fast that you're looking up going. Wait. What we just up. How are we Don't buy 20. It's unbelievable. It's the only team I've been able to that I've seen in the NFL has been able to do it. Ask the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans along the same line is you Deficits? Don't matter. It doesn't Rusty. It doesn't matter. They can just blitzkrieg. You knock you down in a minute. To play drives 80 yards. All of a sudden, Sammy Watkins is like Oh, yeah, He's good in the play offs that that's what happened like where we're supposed to weigh. Had someone covering Sammy on this plane didn't How is he the only one in the screen and for the second consecutive year they go into the playoffs without their Incumbent starter at running back. They've got issues that running back for the second consecutive year didn't really seem to matter in your number one, Damian Williams stepped into a starring role. So with Clyde Edwards Hilaire out, I just don't think it matters. Deficits don't matter for the Chiefs. Moving on sing with the FC The Baltimore Ravens. Peaking right now. I think you forget this team is 11 and five because there was a lone There was a time in the regular season where everybody is about the Steelers. Wow. Are they red hot, leading the division. Other things started to happen around the lead that focused attention away from Baltimore. I don't think it's coincidental. They started playing poorly when Lamar came off Cove in our ticket recovered from that. But what you may not know about the Ravens. Is that their point differential of 1 65. Is the best in the National Football League. And they are a juggernaut on the ground. Lamar is fun. Like that's really That's good. You nailed it when it comes to Lamar Jackson when you take a look outside the Packers, But I enjoy watching Baltimore Ravens games because Lamar has the potential to do something that you haven't seen. Since Michael Vick and he's probably better passer than Vicky is Aziz. Well, he doesn't get nearly enough credit, in my opinion for some of the pass is that he makes, but the touchdown let's run that he had a 48 yards this last week in the wild card round. You just made guys who are in the NFL and very, very fast. Look very, very slow. You just gotta steps up in the pocket. Okay? He's gonna get hit. It was defended too. Okay. They had it. How did okay? They didn't tackle him there. Then he starts just running away from the line back. Okay, So okay. I guess he doesn't have the angle. And next thing you know, he's just gone and it doesn't look as if He's trying that hard. He's just that fast, and it's looks effort. Listen to me. It's a ton of fun to watch. I think they've got a really good chance going into Buffalo. And I think now that Lamar has that monkey off of his back in terms of Oh, you can't win a playoff game. It was two games. Let's relax. He's also you know. Legan, BP still on his rookie contract. I think they've got a really good chance against Buffalo. That's probably the game. I'm going to pay attention to the most. It could potentially be the most fun game to watch. But I think Baltimore is a team that you're right, Greg. They are peeking their hot at the right time headed back to the NFC bad itself. The New Orleans Saints. I'm defense is underrated. Let everybody wants to talk about this offense and what they've been able to do. The offense didn't impress me last week, they find they got all their weapons back. Michael Thomas, a year off of Setting the NFL receptions record and being the best receiver in the league. I mean, he had some issues this season outside of even punching his own teammate that got him suspended from, but he didn't have a touchdown catch in the regular season. Now he wasn't a big part of this offense. Alvin Kamara. Fantastic. Drew Brees. Fun to watch. But I think this defense is better than a lot of people want to give it credit for. The defense is actually to me. What's really carried this team. We do have a check on the scoreboard here. Yes, underrated is one word not even hyphenated gave us within his limits Very well done. For the Saints. I have most talented roster. I believe that by they they are the most talented roster in the NFC may be in the NFL. Added Kwon Alexander to the defense. They found a way to get after the quarterback. Forget compares the third round pick They used Taysom Hill in weird ways. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it backfires. Admittedly, Thomas's back and healthy, Even their backups are pretty solid. Emmanuel Sanders always seems to have a good game when it comes big playoff time. They are pretty loaded. It does not mean I think they could come to Green Bay and win because I don't because they have a noodle armed quarterback who has to be taken off the field any time they want to go deep. And the Saints lost at Philadelphia in a cold weather game They lost at Carolina..

"A product of Jenny's really job going even instincts tell a juice, walk a little rest and let us help with their base wants to know if it is obviously wants to do more of people particularly interested in stolen people, a little riddle, the nuances that help support setting up locks and getting up Because of players, particularly second level defenders to be hesitant. Um, but at some point runners still have to run and you look at Jeff Wilson, for instance, He obviously had that really good game against New England, and then he got. He got hurt late in that game. Then he's come back the last couple of weeks and and looked really good. And when you watch Jeff Wilson, you see a guy that's got excellent short area explosiveness. He runs hard. He's probably got better finishing crates than people think. He's a highly competitive runner. So you know, you look at a guy like that any any runs through contact? So you see traits of a good runner. Now we're not going to sit here and say he's Derrick Henry. But at the end of the day, I I think that a runner still have to have traits to do this Now. We don't know if Jeff Wilson is a guy that if you play him for 16 games with Russia 1500 yards, we don't know that about Raheem Mostert. Either. Re moster is obviously a very explosive guy who runs Probably harder than people think is well. Neither one has been in a situation when he's asked to be the guy for 16 weeks and durability is a Is a trait for running back If you're going to be a quote unquote foundation back in this league durability is a factor. Neither one has shown that trade at this point in their career, so we don't know that. But if you're just looking at running traits, athletic traits, they've got pretty good traits. Greg's living things. The defensive side of the ball for the 40 Niners. Fred Water named NFC defensive player of the week He's played alongside Drake Greenlaw at the linebacker position who took over as the start of their after Kwon Alexander left. Do the 40 Niners have their linebacker corps for the next five years under these guys, assuming they keep the scheme the same. Are these guys capable of holding things down for you know the next half decade based on their skill sets? Well, I really like one or I think he's the past three linebacker in the league because he plays every snap and that I think he's a three down linebacker. I think he's great. Um, you know, I think his experience in college at BYU basically almost being kind of a hybrid linebacker, safety slot corner, you know has allowed him to be what he is in this league. But I really liked Reno. I remember watching him coming out of Arkansas thought he was a really interesting player. Um, didn't have the size exactly that people were looking for, Um he was a late around pick. But I think in the two years he's been with the Niners. I think you'd be hard pressed to say that he has not played well. He flashes every single week. They give great Cosell earlier this week with the Scott Reese and carry Crowley and I would totally agree with Craig on Warner and Greenlaw. I think those guys are both emerging as Pro Bowl caliber. Linebackers, and you could never have enough Pro bowl caliber linebackers. That is for sure. All right, guys, you know, just kind of looking at this thing Seattle opened. It's a 5.5 point favorite. They're not going to rest their starters. Why? Because they could still win the number one seed in the NFC. I mean, they're gonna need a little help to do it, but they can still get that one seed in the one seed means a first round bye. S so they're gonna be flying around trying to win this thing. Seattle's foreign three on the road this year three and two. Inside the division that matters now is in Africa..

"But you know, we we've seen this offense without I you can indeed Bo, and it's not pretty. S so I'm not saying this team is going to pack it in, But I think it's gonna be something where they had that juice They needed like one win before the season ended against the division opponent. Get that off. Just have something something good. Something you know positive down this season on doesn't matter. If they win this game, I think there will be let off. See Harker. Much healthier than they are. They have Russell Wilson. I mean, that's kind of what it comes down to. Right. Let's pretend the 40 hours to find a way. Let's say that the Seahawks just get the vibe that they don't need to do anything and they say, Let's pack it in. Let's get healthy second half, you know, we'll have Ah, battle to see who could play worse between these two teams in the 40 Niners to get the win. They would still finished in last place in the NFC West at seven and nine, and a lot of people would complain about the draft pick. Alas, that's not in their hands. They could only, you know, establish whatever It is what it is that that would be the end result. They can't change it unless they want to trade up and honestly, I think they were always in a position where they were going to have to trade up. They would also You don't have the best division. Division record in the NFC West. What would it say about the $40 going into 2021 with obviously a lot of decisions to be made tough decisions to be made if they could have the best record in division? But also be playing 1/4 place schedule. You'd have to be be pretty bullish on them, regardless of who the quarterback is right. I mean, definitely. I don't even think they need to win this last game to prove that, I think trusting what we saw against the Cardinals was really impressive. And and as much is it Let's be honest, It was really, really, really embarrassingly bad By Cliff Kingsbury. So bad it was so much more Arizona sucking than the 40 Niners being excellent, but you know what they deserve credit. The 40. Niners deserve credit for that. They cute in on what Arizona does, and it's wasting talent. It's you know, sending guys down the field in basically just Chuck it up patterns like basically vertical having two guys split out. You know, for screen passes in the linebackers and the secondary. The tackling they displayed was incredible. And what I saw a lot of was his own matching from Fred Warner, Very Green lawn, taking the running back out of the backfield and just triggering immediately like a soon as they saw Tyler Moore returns had one direction or another. They were coming downhill. That's you know, one reason why, among many Robert Salad's getting the head coaching job, but it's also do you have such a solid core? The main thing you have to figure out obviously the secondary who you're bringing back. We can talk about that. You know at length, but you have this core like two really dynamic linebackers. You can cover a ton of space playing a lot of diverse roles. When Nick posted comes back, the defensive line is No, You need to figure out what's going on with the Ford. But it's basically set. You've got a core here. That is really exciting even when Robert Sala leaves, and they've been coach so well over these last few years, that even when he does, like they know what they're doing. Right, Right. You weren't necessarily sold Andre Green lost. I remember our conversations from when the 40 Niners traded Kwon Alexander. Uh, obviously, Greenlaw had impressed He was he did enough. To wear. They traded Kwon Alexander. Not that you know, Kwan didn't have something to do with that. But you still needed to Seymour. Have you seen enough to feel like Dre? Greenlaw is the guy that needs to be next to Fred Warner for the next 345 years. Absolutely and and it wasn't so much that I didn't think you know Greenlaw was going to get there It was that you had a few shaky performances early in the year in terms of dealing with stuff the flat where Kwon Alexander especially started last year. He's excellent. Excellent. Excellent at covering that stuff. Absolutely. And I need more that Greenlaw. Used justice Good, if not better than Alexander was at this point last year. He's covering stuff to the flat, covering sideline to sideline in a way that is really, really impressive. And he does remind me a lot of what Kwan was doing. Um He's like you right now. He said. It took him until I think the Seahawks game last year we really, really had a grasp for the defense. Right. So I mean this guy. He's the guy right there with Fred. I mean, this is a linebacker duo that you have from next half decade. You can really bet on that and and there's these else I years is getting better tutor speed that he played with there was one play where Green love lifts off the edge and L. Shirer triggered immediately and almost sacked Kyla Murray. There's a lot of speed. Ah, lot of use and a lot of intelligence in that group. And that allows the defense to play fast, too, when the linebackers are decisive and quick and also physical that allows everybody else to play their role effectively. When boasted comes back, That's gonna be a really ferocious front seven front it whatever the hell you want to call it, but as it pertains to the secondary I think we're in agreement from conversations we've had the past that you stick with Jason for rat and you let Richard Sherman go. Richard Sherman. Has told anyone who wants to hear it that he thinks that the 40 Niners can't afford to bring him back. If I'm the 40 Niners, I say sure you're right. It has nothing to do with your play. We can't afford you Goodbye and somebody else can pay him. Because Everett has been Justus good, if not better, And I would actually argue better at the field side. He's on the field side where you know he can do kind of the Richard Sherman impersonation. Then Richard Sherman, and he's not a very good boundary corner. He's just not physical enough. You need a guy with a little bit of thump, Whereas a Hello, Witherspoon manual mostly you know, we could go down the list. I think have been pretty good on that side. Let me put it to you this way. So we're in agreement on Barack. What do you think they do with Witherspoon? Did he do enough here at the end to stick around because he was dead man walking for a long time. It might be up to him on a Shantaram. Because.

"Much in Pretty much in And now they're gonna have to sweat it out. In week 17. Because they didn't show up. Where were they? If they showed me one more shot of Kyla Murray sitting on the bench staring into the half distance, wondering what the hell just happened. I was going to puke. Kind of leadership is that I'm a big Cuyler Murray fan. I think the talent is undeniable. Cliff Kingsbury doesn't know what he's doing. He doesn't He doesn't know how to call on offense. I'm not one of these guys saying all you know this will never work in the I think the area to work in the NFL. I watched back Patrick Mahomes on a week in week out basis. A raid stuff works. Not the stuff that Cliff Kingsbury is calling, though. Not the Russell Wilson offense if you will, which is just do something cool, Kyler. It doesn't work. Not when not when you don't have Russell Wilson just doesn't work. You have DeAndre Hopkins and you use them on bubble screen. What the hell is this? Cliff doesn't know what he's doing. When he's calling the offense. See no life, no juice. From the Arizona sideline. I see Kyla Murray staring off into the half distance. I'm thinking to myself, which one of these teams has been ravaged by injuries has nothing to play for. Has been away from home for a month still has a couple more weeks of being away from home. But that would've been the Arizona Cardinals. If you drop me in In a vacuum. Just kind of going through the motions. Didn't really wanna be there. Let's just get this over with. That's how they played. Meanwhile, the 40 Niners have had all of those things happen to them. Their season is over. They're on their third string quarterback, a guy who was one in nine In his career as a starter. Everyone knows he's not very good, and in fact, he wasn't very good. On Saturday, he was just better than the garbage team. The 40 Niners were playing. Which is incredible. That team supposed to be making the playoffs? You got every I mean, everybody's banged up. Everybody's got Yeah. Bruises and stingers all Mike. I can't even imagine what the training rooms are like at this juncture in the year. They have been away from home for a month. They don't want to be there. I don't wanna be state of the rest. They can't even hang out there. You have to sit in a hotel room all day. They do their team meetings on zoom in a hotel in Arizona. And those guys brought the juice. That was the team that looked like they were playing for something they're playing for nothing except pride. That's what I'm talking about when it comes to culture, and I noticed this about the 40 Niners and Kyle Shanahan's team early on that you can make the argument that Shanahan has too much slack gets too much slack from everybody. Fans media ownership. That this guy has had one good gear every other year has stunk. So why is it that he's not on the hot seat? Why did we just talk about him as if he's going to play out all six years of this contract? Because the second he came in The entire culture of this team changed and it's subtle. It's not big in your face. He never yells about it. He's not one of these guys who really wants you to know how good of a coach look at what kind of a great culture I've created here in San Francisco. He's not one of those guys their coaches like that. Usually they have bad cultures by the way. They're just leaning into it when things are going pretty well for them on the talent standpoint. This team stunk for two years under Kyle Shanahan. They call that year zero in Santa Clara. The team stunk so bad that Kyle Shanahan inherited that him and John Lynch agreed. They were going to have to take an entire calendar year an entire football season and tear it down to the studs the entire organization and rebuild from there, this team stunk. And yet after every game, I go into the locker room. And it felt like they thought they should be winning. There was no reason to think that they should be winning. They They weren't blasting music and having fun and playing at the scene for Moneyball, where you know Billy Beane goes in and smashes the radio. It wasn't anything like that. They were talking about how they get better, how they win the next game, pushing it forward, and those seasons were over in September. They were still fighting. They still had something to go. They were still pros. That's what stood out to me and that was in year zero. That was in a we're going to get rid of everybody on this team. And restarted. I'll see and I don't know what he told those guys in year zero. Every single one of them understood that if you don't bring it You don't get to come to the next game. You don't get to make it to the next year. It wasn't surprising at all. When last year things started going a little bit haywire. Know Kwon Alexander goes out. Injury start to pile up the defensive line, which was so deep and so excellent. They start to lose some bodies. They're tired, The defense is starting to fade. They kept fighting. Had a gumption to him..

"Watch them NFL on the great Saturday and Sunday as we inch closer towards the postseason. Now you went right where I wanted you to go. Thank you very much. Saturday action. We got plenty of that We had acted yesterday on Christmas Day. If the holidays don't screw up your week calendar the NFL surely does with his many days is they're playing this year on a no mostly covert related, but There's no date. It's not an NFL day here in 2020. Yeah, absolutely. And you know, they kind of stinks sometimes for those who want to spend some time with their families and have to cover games, But at the same time, it's great for all the fans that there's always football on, especially on Christmas Day and the day after. I absolutely love it, to be honest with you. As do I am I'm complaining, but any time the NFL's on its good as far as I'm concerned, I the game yesterday and the early game today to NFC teams jumped up and not only one and secured playoff positioning for the Saints. It was divisional win for the box. It was their first playoff appearance in over a decade locked in They not only won, they won rather impressively, and that's kind of been the way with both of these teams here when they look good, they look like Super Bowl good when they don't They look like they really be in the playoffs. Good Go. Saints first, which Saints team is more the real team, the Super Bowl trending team or the just about making the playoffs team? Yeah, I was impressed with the States when? Yesterday for a couple of reasons. First off, it's pretty wild. That true breeze can throw for 311 yards, zero touchdown turned the ball over two times and the Saints could still win by almost 20 points. That's thanks to the play of Albert Camaro scored six total touchdowns, six rushing touchdown, which is absolutely incredible, and the defense for the state has been getting better weekend week out, which is something that is notable to me. Now they did lose Kwon Alexander, which I think is that they get to the defense. I think yet 27 tackles to fumble recoveries. Four passes defensed seven games with that team, but I still like what I'm seeing from this defensive unit as a whole. So it says a lot to me that this team could stick in the wouldn't call and have a big primetime when without Drew Brees having to chuck the ball all over the field. Now when it comes to the temporary Buccaneers, Listen, Joni Mac. I hate to play the role of party pooper on the fucking years, Big day, but I'm not shocked by this blow out. The lines are short handed Matthew Stafford was obviously not healthy and left the game early. They had already fired their head coach, then their interim head coach had to miss this game due to covert protocol. And honestly, what might be the most important thing is that Detroit secondary is really, really bad. I mean, Tom Brady and then blame Gabbert. Yeah, whatever they wanted out there, So I still think that the Buccaneers are a sleeper in the NFC. But I'm not going to overreact and say that the Buccaneers are going to be playing to Super Bowl on their home turf and can become February They have more inconsistencies at this point in my mind, all right, tend to agree that Detroit put less than an NFL product out there today. And if that wasn't and then Stafford goes down, so they're on their backup quarterback, which if you had any hope with the lines and idea, one right out the window when you knew Stafford was done to the for the day Let me go there with Matthew Stafford for you, Hey, has been in Detroit for a decade now, and he always puts up numbers and he's going to get to 20 yards and touchdowns. With Detroit never wins anything with him. If he goes out onto the open market, and Detroit decides it's time for us to go in another direction at the quarterback position. What kind of activity is there going to be this offseason for Matthew Stafford in a trade market, if any To be honest with me, Jodi back. I think that there will be some good activity when it comes to potentially acquiring the services of Matthew Stafford. I was asked the same question in Washington, D. C earlier this week, and I said, Yeah, we should absolutely go get Matthew Stafford, and he's available because, like you said, He is not the problem with the Detroit lines or the Detroit Lions offense, right? This is the guy who continues to put up good numbers. He's a good player, but he's been hampered by the situation around him. So in my mind, I think that there will be plenty of teams who can overlook how bad the Detroit Lions franchise has been in recent years and go acquire Matthew Stafford, somebody who could be Even more than just a bridge player to the next future under center. If they want to go out and get a younger quarterback, I would definitely be interested in Matthew Stafford. If the team that I'm in charge of its kind of looking at that, in that consequence. Let me jump back to the game from yesterday We talked about the saints What they accomplished in Camara, probably killing the whole bunch of players. Vanity Championship chances If you're going up against Albert tomorrow, you are screwed from Game one of this championship weekend, The Vikings took it in the short to be a Camaro and breathe. And we're officially eliminated from the playoffs. I'm raising my hand is one guy who woefully overrated. The Vikings actually picked them to win that division over Green Bay this year, so for them not to make the playoffs pretty damn disappointing. Is it going to coat cost code? Zimmer his job in your estimation. In my estimation, I'm gonna lean towards no, I think that there's some good things to build off of. I mean, it's great that 1000 took was able to remain healthy for seemingly what it really seems like the first season in his illustrious career. I mean, he was he was. He was pretty good. Yesterday, he had 73 yards and a touchdown. Of course we have the young wide receiver. The non Justin Jefferson 85 yards and didn't catch a touchdown last week, but he's been absolutely incredible, and it's gonna be up for rookie of the year..

"Welcome to the red and gold wrapped Larry Krueger, John Lan Dennis Brown After nine or football 40 Niners and Week 16 go to the desert and beat the Cardinals 22 14. They keep Arizona from clinching a playoff berth. We're getting ready to take your calls Right now. It ate away can be Arbor guys. This was impressive. I thought it was an impressive game plan. Start off right there. With cow Shanahan committing to the run. Almost a 60 40 run past split and You know. Now it's 13 games in a row that the team that won the turnover battle diners were plus one on the turnovers today has gone on to win the football game 13 weeks in a row that has proven to be true Jeff Wilson 200 plus Yard Day got in the end zone over almost 8.5 yards. Carrie Kittle ignited this team and defensively, I just thought, Wow. I mean, wow, what an effort. Defensively, guys were flying around, and it was a true team effort, led by Bye, Fred Warner and K. Juan Williams an incredible win for the Niners. Yeah, it was a fun game to watch and the entire football game I was. I was just impressed. I was impressed by Jeff Wilson Jr. The way you run Ran the ball was incredible. And and the way the defense kind of came out and just set the tone. It was great. Just watching Kay one. Come on those cat. Blix is our guest to snake blitz. On just getting after Colin Murray and kind of corralling him and just watching this team play. It was it was, It was kind of cool. I was I was very impressed. And, you know, even CJ better. He even pressed me a little bit today. You know what this game was? I was thinking about this thing. It was. It was the free agent game. CJ Beth ER doesn't have a contract. Cable R K. Juan Williams doesn't have a contract. Witherspoon doesn't have a contract. Wilson Jr doesn't have a contract like all these guys came out today and said, Man, I better get myself a contract, and that's exactly what happened. They ran the ball. They made things a lot easier on CJ bettered who didn't screw it up. That one fumble before the half actually shouldn't gonna happen, because well as as the commentators said Isaiah Simmons kicked that ball, which cannot do if you remember years ago, KJ right, kicked the ball to keep it in the end zone, and they They want a game. So they put that rule in a couple years ago. You can't kick the ball. Plus, you look like you got hit low on that place. So that was the only turn over. He had. He didn't make any dumb throws. You played within himself. The running game allowed him to play within himself. They didn't fall behind early. They played great defense. But there were a ton of guys who we wrote off. Give Witherspoon a ton of credit today way we kept talking about and Kyle talked about in the postgame K. Juan Williams limped off the field about three times kept coming back in the game. Just a bunch of unknown guys played really hard. They played hard for teaching his idea. Beth heard you had a kid will come up with 3 20 plus yard catches that were big all the sudden running games going. Is that a coincidence? Because George KIDDO returns just a great game except for Robbie Gold. What's he trying to do? Did he have the Cardinal stay, dude, Miss Sex and pointing to made Mr Field goals when he's a guy or two missed extra points in this field goal. And he's a guy that it made 31 straight inside 50 yards, missed his first the 41 yarder for the first time this year of a kick under 50. So other than Robby Gold, Everybody was great today, and it seems like it seems like I don't have any Phil goes. He's missed throughout the season, but seems like he missed them all. So so he tied his three He tied his worst. Yeah, Ellen one day so, Yeah, he was. Some was definitely going on with them to mix. Next extra point is not Robbie, but missed. Some of those clothes feel goes. It just didn't feel like I would know the top was open or the the stadium. I don't know if it was wind coming in or what? But he was definitely off today. Haven't the brutalization in the first half of Christian Kirk? Oh, my goodness. Tar. Various more blew him up in the end zone on that one play early in the game, And then the monster hit of the day was the Marcel Harris, where he folded him right into the ground. Oh, my God. Christian Kirk is gonna be in the tub all week that I thought he took in and a killer. Witherspoon hit him hard. One time I'm in the Niners. Really came to play and you know, just across the board. Fred Warner on some of that past coverage, was just running stride for stride down the field with receivers and backs like it was nothing. DJ Jones got a sack. Haider got a sack. Yeah, There's a lot of guys, you know, Nothing's guaranteed. Nothing is guaranteed. In fact, you know, I was reading a said the sad story about Kwon Alexander, the former Niner who, um You know, Tours Achilles the other night. And if you guys we don't mention that the pre game But Kwan tours Achilles out for the year. Well, you know, he had a big contract with like 54 million coming his way. Um, you know how much he's actually getting of that I read is only to see me so I mean, you know, don't feel sorry for getting getting two million. But that's just how precarious the NFL is, As far as you know, contracts. It's not for long The guys know it. And despite the fact that the playoff hopes were Were gone. You've got 40 guys headed towards free agency on this team and men. They were flying around, throwing their bodies around, and it was fun to watch. It was it was it was the best. I've seen them look against a mobile quarterback and three seasons. I mean it really, really good effort today. Yeah, And it kind of makes you upset. I mean, as a 40 Niner fan, you watch his team to Steve. This defense goes on plays Well, the offense looks really efficient. You gotta running back that's running over 100 yards, and you wonder where it had been the whole entire football season. That's that's the part. That's frustrating that you know you don't see this early in the football or early in the season late in the season, you're out the playoffs, and now you see this great play. Well, let's let's take some calls right now. It away can be our is the phone number. You know, It's funny, really. We, you know they can't re sign all these guys. But man after watching today, how do you let Kay Juan Williams get away? I mean, what an incredible player he's he is when he's out there against the run Against the past six tackles, you got a sack yet a pass defense. He had Two tackles for loss. I mean, he's playing an unreal level, but how do you say goodbye to for red? You know, how do you think about D. J. Jones? A guy who's that strong gives the run and Scott feet like that, who can really move? So men. There were a lot of guys who really stepped up with money on the line today, but ate away can be off. Let's take some calls 20 to 12 Niners get a win. There's one game left in the regular season. What's your primary? Take away from this win as the Niners Get one down the stretch against the Arizona Cardinals. Your calls coming up next on the sports leader..

"Linebacker had to step up because Abdula came back behind the formation, so that created a lot of room there. Behind Kwon Alexander, the Saints linebacker 24 yards on the game there now with the Saints 34 yard line on first out, doesn't play action roles, right? Russia's Come on. We got a flag on the play cousins throws deep toward the end zone just off the fingertips of his intended receiver. B. C. Johnson. It falls incomplete, but I think they're gonna call hold. On Conklin. Holding office number 83 10 Yard penalty replay first at Correct and correct, man, I don't agree with that at all. You know, he had his hands inside, and then his cousin was getting out. Kind of yanked him looking on the monitor. I guess I can see why they called it there. But watching it live. You almost are taught that technique. Sometimes if you didn't get everything you wanted to solid eight. Check out Macy's after Christmas sale for great deals on the gifts Santa missed going on now it Macys dot com. Let's first in 20, now from the 44 yard line to 16 left to go here in the third cousins turns hands it off to cook running left side and outside the numbers. He's gonna get it down to about the 42 yard line. You move pick up of two yards on first out. 31 20 cents on top..

"Got to be pretty cool, but mixed emotions for Justin Jefferson. He's only 21 years old from ST Rose. Louisiana played it. Ls you and here he is now going against his saints to backs in the backfield, and on first down to give us to cook got a block on the outside 45 40 yard like Down yardage and skips out of bounds inside the 35 yard line at the 34. 15 yards on the pick up in a first down. Yeah, that was just Isil Scott. That was just you followed the fullback, and that's actually Jacob Vargas. They just activated him from the practice squad because CJ Ham is Alan Vargas. Stones. The linebacker Kwon Alexander, and the Vikings are often running defense optional So far today they're getting the line quickly and snapping quickly. Cousins does gives to cook again. The stunt tripped up in the line of scrimmage falls forward for a pick up of about two. Robin Cook. Also named to the Pro Bowl this week. 8 100 plus yard games on the season for Dalvin Cook his offensive line Rightly Reef Dakota Dozer. Garrett Bradbury has Rick Cleveland and Bryan O'Neal. Left to right. Jake Vargas gets the starting fullback in this one is CJ Ham is inactive, and now it is a mirror doula in the backfield got second down and eight from the New Orleans 31 Yard line. Smith, the tight end comes to the near side play action cousins trying to dish it off and does a juggling attempt made by Conklin. Can't quite catch it. And it is incomplete Crab reacting, and so are the Saints thinking that it might have been a fumble, But Conklin never got control of that ball. They thought it actually might be an interception. It seemed like the ball hadn't touched the ground. But ultimately it did. They try to run a tight end screen and you really can't have the ball in the air that long. Your cousin's put so much air underneath that that it gave Kwon Alexander, by the way is flying all over the field already in this game, enough time to go over there and disrupt Conklin's ability to make that catch third down, and eight they need just inside the 23 yard line for the first out of the shotgun, three receivers to his left. He takes the snap throws its complete and it's gonna be first down.

"A pick up a 16 yards. Both the Saints and the chief. They're repeating place here in the second half that they ran early in the first half. It's almost like we're going to read you. Past Taysom Hill was a repeat of what they did earlier. Now that delay flip to ever tell there was also a play. They ran early in the first half. Let's hope the second half doesn't play out like the first half. My home's back to throw groups it over the middle. Kelsey's got it just shy the midfield stripe. Now he puts the shoulder down barrels his way into Saints territory, and they bring down the big tight end after 46 yard line. That's going to be another first down to pick up 13 that time. So some chunk plays to start this drive a nice run by Edward's a lair. And then the past to Kelsey has been really quiet in this football game today for catches 33 yards targeted seven times. First down, in which alert takes the handoff sweeping the left side. This time they cut him off. Can't get that corner and down at the 45. That's a game of one on the play to park down by Kwon Alexander. He's had his share of tackles in this football game. Saints come in with a 13 and one record, they won their first four. Before they lost to the Raiders. And now come in on an eight game winning streak. Open to make it nine. They're already champions of the A F C West. And would like to remain the top seed in the A F. C play action fake Mahomes goes to the near side line to the Marcus Robinson Robinson is eaten up by that Saints defense. That's a short gain on the play four yards to the 41 yard line there in New Orleans territory and third down, coming up with Kansas City. Third down five. Someone needs to explain to tomorrow Robinson Marcus Robinson sometimes plays over. He was one of fun will be punch earlier that time caught.

"Down, Spin move. Nice balance of the right hand on the ground as he kept going, And that's a first down run to the 49 of New Orleans tomorrow. Davis on the Stop. So the rookie out of L s U That I feel really good start this year and some of them questioning Well, how good it really is This remember, he's a first round pick, but the 32nd player taken in the draft 15th in the league coming in and rushing. 724 yards. Nice run there for a first down to the New Orleans 49 gonna work out of the I formation. Edwards, a layer has it again off Left tackle. Now he sprints to the near side line. And that was a nice person to speed on out of bounds of the 42 yard line, So he picks up seven and chant all of a sudden the chief say, Hey, let's try to run the football against these guys, and they've had some success. I think this thing's defense did a good job. The past kind of confusing Patrick Holmes with bits of you, Andy Reid, let's return to the ground game, which will then open up the play action game. We know possible homes could be deadly with that. So at some point here, this is that territory. We like they shot down the field. Run the ball, run the ball. Go play often take a shot. I expect to see that scene from the Chief. Williams isn't running back and he gets to call. This is a second in short, and Williams is pretty much stuffed at the line of scrimmage. Maybe a yard to the 41 that was Kwon Alexander among the black jerseys to meet the Kansas City running back. We'll give him one. It's gonna be third down two yards to go for the Chiefs. They lead New Orleans 14 to 7 and we've got six minutes 16 seconds to go in the first half, three receivers way out Far side right from the homes. Brilliance remains to running back home's gonna slide Far side, Right? Look downfield. Nice looking back. Laugh now loops it downfield for Chelsea, and it's broken up. Playing the secondary. That was a heads up play by Marchand Lattimore on that'll make it fourth down for Kansas City. Let's see if they decide to go for it here Fourth down and three of the 41 of the Saints on the offense is staying on the field with safe. I'm sorry with chief play calling. Works ago. Oh, my goodness. It's so creative when it doesn't work you go, man. Get into cute, So it's they're always trying to find that line between aggressive and creative. And then that was a bit too much. That time was a bit too much rolling. Possible homes out showing the field form didn't get the option that we're away first charge first half The second time out. So in time out, called by Kansas City play clock was about five seconds away from expiring when they actually broke the huddle. So Andy Reid was thereto. Make sure they didn't get penalized here so they can talk this over. Down coming up The homes Now in this game is 12 24 119 Yards, two touchdown passes breeze after that awful start now to attend for 56. And one interception. So short time out. Chan, What's your call here? Got fourth down. Need about three yards. Wow. I'm going to threaten the sense defense detail. Open up something for Travis Kelsey in immediate area. Odyssey's president, homes favorite targeting my opinion. Most sure handed shoes. Receiver captains in motion near side LaPierre holer download outside and back to throw Esma Holmes steps up in the pocket ball batted in the air and caught. It's a lineman who caught the football, so we'll see if there's a what this is ruled. Saying the ball was tipped. I don't think he was tipping got hit from behind the ball was caught. Yeah. And a line that can't be the first player to touch it. Quarterback before us legal touching offense number 61. It was ineligible first to touch five yards. Look down. Yeah, he can't catch that ball less. It's touched by a saint's defender first. Okay, Stephon. It was new ski is the offensive lineman number 61, who illegally caught that pass. I played against his dad. Great guard for the Raiders for a long time. One of the masses, Officer Lyman. I played against my years definitely hated going against him, so the penalty will make it fourth down. Seven to go for a first down eight. So the Chiefs have decided they will have the ball away. Second charge of the first half. Now the Saints call time out. They lost one on the challenge. So their second time out, we'll get one more. We've got 5 46 to go in the first half. Kansas City, 14 New Orleans seven and the game swinging in momentum just a little bit. If you're just joining us, the states couldn't do anything. Drew Brees. Mrs First six. A bunch of three and outs, threw an interception that gave Kansas City is short field for their first touchdown. Then Mahomes engineered a nice long drive to make it 14 to nothing. And then finally, the Saints last time they had the ball priest connected on a couple of plays, including a bomb to Emmanuel Sanders, and a few plays later taste of hell able to take it in the end zone from a yard out so It's 14 7 Kansas City with believe they're gonna point, Andy Reid, There's now talking to Scott Novak. And maybe they're just trying to straighten out what happened on the last play where they threw those penalties. After was Newspeak caught the pass, Jeff Picture, join us at halftime. Big win. You're the Saints have an opportunity with a win today. Capture the NFC South. It would be their fourth in a row. They did not get any help from the Atlanta Falcons. Falcons had a big lead at home against Tampa Bay, but Tom Brady and company rallied to win that football game on the road. 31 27 so Saints Have to win this game to capture the division. So what do you think the conversations going on there, Dad and we read. Now there's 44 officials talking to Andy Reid could be whether that Asked was actually passing is not a fumble because earlier when passing Holmes tried to throw it out of bounds, They said that one was a humble So what we how are we defining attempted forward past? And the fumble. If I'm Andy Reid, I could be a little curious about that as well. That's a fumble. And its first now jeez. Up. There is Scott Novak, not turning on his microphone for any reason so way will not know exactly what that discussion was about. Until postgame comments. New Orleans will not be charged with time out. Have two timeouts remaining two time, All right, so New Orleans not called with a time out. So why don't we stop playing? I guess Andy Reid wanted a discussion. Tommy Town, Tommy Townsend Munch on Tommy Lee Lewis back to you. It's now Right leg makes contact and over in Kirk. It's called four and made it the eight yard line so that my friends is where in New Orleans will take over first down in 10, 5 35 to go first half Kansas City. 14. "The game. You can never just talked about God. That spark play from Drew Brees, recognizing the Chiefs were disorganized on defense going with hurry up, stop delivering active ball to Sanders down the right sideline. This could be that kind of spark that gets them going and, you know, do breeze shaking off that rust that affected the first four drives for the sex. So before that drive, we had New Orleans for a total of 10 yards. They have 76 yards. Thanks to that 66 yard drive New Orleans will kick off from left to right on back deep is McColl Hartman? What's running into this one connects with the right leg. Hartman says. I will not return that on Kansas City out to the 25 yard line. First down and 10 on Patrick Mahomes and company back on offense, Mahomes in this game so far, 12 23 119 yards, two touchdowns and he's also there leading rusher. The ground game hasn't been all that great, but they've had success going and he's had the one carrying for 13 yards. Just move right to laugh. Trust in white jerseys, red pants red, the rose Red home. It's the yellow head on each side had a running play. And this is Belle Belle Turns it outside, right across the 30 32 yard line Lady on Belle, Seventh Year out of Michigan State. Former Pittsburgh Steeler tackled by tomorrow, Davis Malcolm Jenkins. It'll be second down coming up in just 33 so close to eight yards on the play. The Chiefs came into this game averaging 111 yards on the ground. Was 17th out of 32 team NFL homes out of the shotgun. This time's got to receivers out to the right. Something down and to hand off fell swoop in the left side cuts back right piece to the 35 36 yard line, And that will be a Kansas City first down, so pick up a three Had a first down tackle made by Kwon Alexander, essentially the same play repeating the play, but going to the opposite side, both times good blocking by the offensive.

There's there's no doubt and the players love them, and I know the assistant coaches like working for him. So it will be the 40 Niners lost in somebody else's gain. But I definitely think Robert and I think he deserves it. I think he's earned it. I think you'll get a shot. By the way, we're going to see you Don't see the 24th is next week. That was again like a football game. Really good game. I'm glad that guy decided he was gonna take that kick. Yeah. Bruin territory, Although I did disagree with the end of the game with the taunting and the fighting a in the coach trying to tackle players Come on, man. I could just tell you back in my time or even a few years ago, when, when Eddie Orgeron was the interim head coach there any of those shenanigans were going down. Um, you know, players were We're gonna be in big trouble by the coaching staff, and I saw none of that. So that what would video of said to Iraq? What would he have said That quote, no pencil, notes. Then he paused and said nothing bad when he hit that he had the The timing and the comedy was fabulous. That was well done. By the way he was talking about Robert Sala go into the Lion Scott P. Oldie. It's reported this interviewing with the Detroit Lions next week. I don't know. If so, if the fire hand I mean a lot of these guys Dimitrov to from the old Atlanta guy. Thomas Metro. Yeah, they said he's interviewing. So if they hire the GM first, and you know the call I got. You know the question I have in Detroit. What's your last name? Mary Ford Hamp. I think it is just hoping it's something maybe hang, Probably sure they need somebody to new perspective would be good anyway. But if you if you You know? How do you do it? Do you do it? Like you know the Kyle Shanahan higher and higher, Kyle, and then he gives it indicator and what he wants to do with the GM. Or do you hire GM, so that would help solid? They went, you know, head coach first. If they hire peole E. That's the New England tree right if they hired Thomas Dimitroff. He was in Atlanta. There are some commonalities between the Matrox the question would be Louis Riddick, I think is interviewing for a lot of these jobs as well, Huge Detroit So he's not on Monday night football anymore. Thank goodness that's not gone. Well, be nice, but anyway, I you know the whole the whole deal there. Is how they do the process and I think Silas first choices the Lions. It wouldn't be my first choice, but he's from there, you know, you know, magical on a Buffalo would not be a lot of people's first choice. But he wants that job. I shouldn't say that. I think We'll see what he has to do it. I was gonna be a lot of openings and his lot of great candidates that will have to Be interviewed both GM and head coach But since he's from, you know that area he's not far from Alan Park in Dearborn. He grew up Just a little bit away a town over from where the Lions are based Monday through Game day, But if you know, a lot of this is just checking boxes on what they have to do as far as the process goes. I don't know if Scott the only really would be at the top of the list in the hiring. Cycle this time around, but I've got Scott did a good job. He was in New England. For years. He went to Kansas City. Matt Cassel fell apart. Hey, had a terrible playoff game, but he did get him into the playoffs. And then curiously, Scott Kind of kicked around. But there'll be Thomas Dimitroff built a Super Bowl team in Atlanta. That guy's a quality guy, and he's not just a roster builder. But the thing about him is he's bold. He will make bold moves to trade away up to get a Julio Jones or Hey, will make bold moves a zey roster builders so they may have to do something there. But that would impact. Sallah, if you know if he only does get that job, or Thomas Dimitra. Well, what's interesting, too is and I didn't know this. I read this Ah few days ago where obviously Robert Sala is Lebanese Americans. So the In November, the league approved that plan. You help diversify teams. The Rooney rule is clearly not working. So the NFL would award the 40 Niners of the third round, picking consecutive drafts. If it loses solid to the lines. Now, look, I'd like to keep Robert solid but to third round picks. Yes, please. That'd be nice. Yeah, You knew you'd get him in 21. You get him in 22 if he does become a head coach, and the other thing to look at is Kwon Alexander's play time in New Orleans, and I didn't think they would play him as much as they are. I thought Angeloni would continue their next to Demario Davis, but that would get you So the trade they made with Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton in New Orleans. Was for a future fifth. But if he plays and I forget the exact amount of snaps, but he played every single one..

"Or at least that's what the 40 Niners that hope Now it doesn't seem to matter nearly as much, but you know, as we said, it seems that Nick Mullen has one or two. Wins over quality opponents in him that he's able to. You know the chips fall right on the defensive end, and he's able to avoid those turnovers that he is able to lead, you know, wins over those type of team that way, and we saw that against the Rams a couple years ago, we saw it against the Seahawks. He also being a good Broncos defense that year, and I honestly think the 40 Niners He did just just one more right? I think they they just needed that one more win toe, really give themselves a shot while building that bridge to to Jimmy Garoppolo, and they didn't get it. CJ Beth third, fairly known commodity, right? I mean, he's only won one game back in 2017 against the lifeless Giants team as the starting quarterback for the 40 Niners. So when you got more into like, five and 10, you got CJ Beth Third was one in 10. When you're beginning to argue about, you know which of those men should be in the game? You're here. You're not in a good position, and I think that you know Shannon's going to say that, but I think it is a nice way of putting it that way. Yeah, well, and the Garoppolo conversation being as well traveled as it is over the last handful of weeks. It begs the question. Like if you're a betting man right now. Are any of these three quarterbacks on the roster next year. Well, if you're a betting, man, and you don't want to lose your money, then I think you you clearly Jimmy Garoppolo will be on the roster next year. Just because what we're 40 Niners gonna do tow ensure That they're better at the quarterback position next year. I mean, it's it's not that even if there's a There's a shortage of competent quarterbacks, even in the starting level in the NFL right now, right? I mean, you have, you know 15 to 20 guys who you say OK, I'll take it take my chances with them. Probably if you're serious about winning the Super Bowl that that group is, you know, even smaller. And the back end of the NFL. You know the back end of the 32 starters in the league. It's not the prettiest list so It's not like there's you know, capable arms capable quarterbacks just floating around easy for the picking, you know to add to your team. That's why the 40 Niners think really appreciate what they have with Jimmy Garoppolo now what they don't have with him. Well, they haven't had, you know, consistently over his time with the 40. Niners is a clean bill of health. And that obviously is concerning so The 40 Niners need to do moving forward is they? They need to make sure they bring stability back to the quarterback position, and that, of course, starts with availability. Availability is the best ability I think that you could look at more factors for why Jimmy Garoppolo has gone hurts and just Jimmy Garoppolo himself, and that's probably the most efficient way for the 40 Niners to address the situation right because it's so hard to find another quarterback. It's gonna take a lot of draft capital. You're not even sure. The guy you draft can draft is going to be capable. Well, go the easier out Go the more efficient round upgrade the offensive line. Bring Garoppolo back. I don't know if there's gonna be a pay cut. There may be a lot of salary restructuring this off season with a lot of contracts because of that whole mess. But either way, I think that you need a ride this out and see what this guy can do when he's consistently healthy again and try to, you know, set the parameters for him to be a protected and healthy as possible. Because the last time you did that The results are pretty good. You ended up in Miami, playing in the final game of the season last year. Give me the priority list with regard to guys who are going to hit free agency and are already on the team doesn't start with Trent Williams. And where does it go from there? Yeah, I think you have to start with trying Williams, because I've been hammering this home since late last year that I think the offensive line needs to get better. I think that that was a huge part of the 40 Niners downfall in the postseason because the offensive line Obviously did a fantastic job run blocking, but the pass protection When it came to those mano a mano. Fight against those pass rushers. They're pinning their years back kind of situations just just wasn't there for the 40. Niners hasn't been there this season, and you just have to have you know that left tackle position anchor down. So Trent Williams you pay to make that happen. The problem is for the 40 Niners, then that there's just so many different positions after that, where a veteran in re signing can help them, But there's not enough money to pay all of them so I like the versatile guys, and I think that puts somebody like I'll use check second on the list because you check helps in the run blocking game he helps in the past blocking game. He looks in the run game, and he helps in the receiving game he needs just is that Swiss Army knife at the center of Kyle Shanahan's offense, But I think you know, above all else. The 40. Niners have been stockpiling draft picks. They have a lot of them now. And if Kwon Alexander continued to play for New Orleans, they're going to get that fifth rounder from the states this year, and that just put so much importance on 2021 draft because that's cost controlled. The 40 Niners don't have a lot of cap space and they're just gonna have to hit this trap them like any other draft before they have to hit grounds. One through seven. Have to make sure they get it least five or six quality players out of this draft. And then that way, there's a little less pressure on free agency. I used the money on used check and you use it on trend, Williams, But then you have some quality bodies there, Um, tow the supplement them from this rookie class, and I think that's the way to the 40. Niners can keep this sustainable, moving forward. And a great stuff. Appreciate you so very much. Thank you. All right. Thank you are all right. There's David Lombardy, the athletic with the latest on the 40 Niners. There's a lot to get to. So we will continue with that. And in fact great Niner stuff coming up on the rewind with Maddie Naoko and maybe the one football team in the Bay Area. That is winning. We'll get to that coming up Next on the sports leader..

"Water. Quanah next year. The cult of running away with it the Eagles a distant second, hmm. Uh, I don't know if most people know Sal Paolantonio served five years in the United States Navy from 1978 to 1983, and I was talking about Army Navy here so I am so patriotic when like that atmosphere is just wonderful. Did you ever attend Army Navy game? Many times in Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field. I was there I was there with Secretary of Defense and my wife. We We hung out with his wife and family at the 50 yard line. It's Zagreb. Great event. It's great fun, but I'll just say this, and I love Navy obviously root for Navy. Maybe need to take a time out a double reverse that results in a safety Dan. Let's go chase some submarines for a while or do something. Come on. You were awarded the Service medal, I believe sat right 1981 so supervising the rescue of Vietnamese refugees in the South China Sea. Explain the award and what happened. It's the United Nations Meritorious Service Award given to me and my shipmates on the USS elect. We were in the South China Sea and our mission. Was to find Vietnamese refugees. That we're being preyed upon by pirates at sea. Pirates would have board their their boats and take them and force them into servitude on on the high seas, So we we rescued them. Many of them many hundreds of them and brought them to the United Nations. Um Refugee center and Singapore. We Ferried them from the South China Sea back and forth. It was a huge mission. I was I was a part of it. Help supervise it on my ship. And every one of us on this ship was awarded that metal many of us were Ever get nervous. No, I mean, you know you're trained at sea. Uh, to be underway and no, never did. You know it is an officer's I was a surface warfare officer, So I was an officer of the deck under way. Indian Ocean Pacific South South Pacific. It's Ah, it was. It was a fabulous experience to be among great great men and women in the American armed forces for five years. Serve alongside them. Be part of Ah, Peacekeeping missions. I was lucky Dan and I never served during war time. That's that's the goal of anybody who serves in the military is to serve. During peace time. And I was one of the lucky ones for sure. And then you come back, and then all of a sudden how do you get into the media after being in the military? Had already had a master's degree in journalism from N y U When I joined the military, I joined the military because it was a family tradition. My uncle Tony. Who was my godfather? Wassen Submarine service in the North Sea during World War two By Uncle Salvo on named after was a Marine In the Korean War. So on all of my dad's brothers and my mom's brother's servant, either the Navy Army or the Marine Corps. My dad, however, did not serve because God rest his soul. He was four left because he had cataracts at birth. And so it was. It was a sad situation for him. He really wanted to serve and so it really was up to me as his oldest son. And, you know, I joined at the height of the anti Vietnam War effort, So it was not in vogue to come out of college and go join the service. But that's what I did. I had an uncle who lied and he joined the Army at 16. And which war he was in the Korean War. Yeah. The Korean War was no joke, and he was in battle, man. I mean, it affected him the rest of his life. He got frost bit and he would always have white socks on every time I would see him. And Like I can't imagine the horrors of war at any age and he was 16. He lied to get into the army. And he saw a lot about a lot of lot of stuff and we were never allowed to bring it up. Too, right? So he survived and had a whole life after that, not a long life, but he had a life after that, But yeah, he was in one of the bloody bloodier battles. What was his name? What was his name? Last name is Miller. Tom Miller. Yeah, but my my father in law served in the Marine Corps in Korea and was in the last great amphibious assault of the U. S. Military at Inchon. On survived that assault and We were never allowed to talk to him about it. All right. I got sidetracked there. But the ESPN national correspondent, primarily covering the NFL, NFL matchup, host and I don't know what to make of what Doug Peterson said after yesterday's win here sounds so can you interpret what Doug Peterson is saying about who is going to be a starting quarterback next week against Arizona? I think it's difficult to interpret. But one of the things that I learned very early on as a reporter, and I learned it from some of my mentors is don't pay attention to what coaches say. Coaches Lyell the time Pay attention to what they do. And so I don't put a lot of stock and press conferences. Press conferences are good for copy and, you know, talk shows and all that stuff that's all good. And of course, we want to pay attention to what they say, and they sometimes create controversy. At the end of the day, pay attention to what happened in the game and the decision that was made and for whatever reason whether, and I saw what Peter King said to you. About the fact that everybody's walking on eggshells because of Carson Wentz, I I think this part that that's partly true. Right, I think, and I love Carson wants everybody in that building does and Carson Winters are tough guy and a hard worker and a good teammate. You'll never hear me say a bad word about him. But I said three weeks ago, it was time for him to get benched like Donald Mikdad did in 2008. Little time out. Now Kevin Cobb came in and, of course, did not display any kind of talent worthy of keeping him in. Obvious big gamble here is Jalen hurts would do what Jalen hurts did yesterday and let's be clear about something. Let's be very clear about something Jalen hurts, won the game. The reason why the Eagles won the game is because Jalen hurts. I want you to look you look at the roster and the starting lineup of the Saints Camaro. Sanders Cook, Michael Thomas, this young man Trey Kwan Smith. You go on the defensive side of the ball. Cameron Jordan kick Kwon Alexander de Marius Davis Generous Jenkins. Malcolm Jenkins Marsh are Lattimore just to name a half a dozen on each side of the ball, Then name one Philadelphia Eagle. That starts on that New Orleans Saints team..
Saints get 49ers LB Alexander for Alonso, pick
"40 Niners. They're trading linebacker Kwon Alexander to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso in a conditional fifth round
Super Bowl LIV Preview
"Today ahead of Super Bowl. Fifty four we break down just what to expect when the Chiesa. He's the niners square off on Sunday. I mean at times it's Thursday January thirtieth this espn daily presented by Dell small business. We are on radio row right now. ESPN daily is in the back There are radio stations across America. ESPN shows everyone is at their booths. Interviewing players analysts celebrities stars. And we've got one here with us. Dominic foxworth radio row is madness. It always ban is but it's like three hundred people gets bigger and his crazier every year. Well Luke speaking of madness this game people having trouble picking the winner I think because it truly feels like the two best teams made it to the Super Bowl. I feel like I'm just GONNA. It was Patrick Mahomes. Because it's not GonNa be fun rooting against him. We'll be more fun rooting for him than against it. Let's start by talking about patching mahomes chiefs offense versus the San Francisco Forty Forty niners defense. Which is sort of the strength on strength matchup in this game? I think history would favor San Francisco because the recent super bowls elite defenses. Have come out on top. The two thousand fifteen Denver Broncos the two thousand thirteen Seattle seahawks. We don't need to talk about what happened near later. The two thousand eight steelers ninety six packers list goes on typically offense loses according to our friends at stats and Info so the niners are the sevens team in the last fifteen years to make it to the super bowl with fifty five or more sex the other six teams all won dominique. We've seen how disruptive active this pass rushes the secondary ranks near the top of the League in stopping deep passing as the linebackers fast they can move laterally. Which is the chiefs specialty with their sweeps and screens? And all that said tell me how the chiefs offense can still beat them. I mean I have never seen the chiefs. Offense actually be stopped in any legitimate way especially with a healthy Patrick mahomes and he is healthy. And that's the difference is when we've seen great defenses. Losing the Super Bowl. It's been all time great quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers one of the people who did I did not think Patrick Mahomes is obviously in that category. As far as this town is concerned. If you were the niners defense how would you defend Patrick Mahomes this explosive chiefs passing attack. So I think you have to mix it up. That's the best thing you can do. And you also have to understand that you're not gonNA stop them. They're GONNA make plays they're going to score points. But you need to try not to give a big play. Touchdown don't stress about them getting to the red zone but play well in a red zone which the forty niners haven't been doing which is scary. It's interesting right. Yeah the the niners defense ranks. Thanks near the top in most statistical categories this year. But you're right. They have been less. Efficient are actually been below average in the red zone. They've struggled to stop the run there. which cheese haven't really been running the ball lately? They've also struggled this season against mobile quarterbacks now that requires an enormous caveat which which is that D. Ford niners pass rusher at Kwon Alexander. LINEBACKER missed a lot of games during the regular season but you look performances against Cuyler Murray Lamar Jackson Russell Wilson. You saw those were the games in which they struggled a little bit more for what we've seen from Patrick Mahomes in this postseason is is an insane ability to take off the football as the leading rusher for his team and the playoffs so far and I think that he's always been comfortable with it now that his knee is gone a little bit unhealthier. He's more apt to take off. But I think that's less scary the him getting outside of the pocket throwing like I'd almost rather him try to run it for twenty yards. Because what happens win. He buys time against the forty niners. Specifically they're not traditionally man coverage team but everything turns the main when the quarterback starts to scramble like. That's your your scramble scramble roles as a defensive back or linebackers find closest guy and stick to them everything tires demand at that point in there they just frankly. The forty niners don't have the secondary speed speed in secondary and to be fair to them. No one has a speed and a secretary to run with McColl Hartman and tyreek hill specially with the arm. That Patrick Mahomes has the the chiefs are the best st passing team in the NFL or close to it. The San Francisco Forty niners are the best at defending the NFL or close to it. Something has to give live. How do you even begin to defend all of those weapons? especially if you're the forty niners you play a pretty simple cover. Three quarters mixed in there. Do you change it up. What do you do with Rick Chairman? You have to change it up. You can't survive and covered three. Andy Reid loves four verticals and with that speed and in Patrick mahomes arm strength and accuracy. He will eat you alive in the same with four verts. Would it really comes down to is pressure which is why I think that blitzing is a smart move. You WanNa make them get rid of the ball quickly and tackle but you're not gonNa do it every single time and if you give him one opportunity unity he can make you pay so you need to get the Turner was when you get those opportunities. I think they should be more aggressive than they've been and try to force them to get rid of the ball and make tackles. Yeah if there's been a weakness in this defense dominique. It's been the other side of the field for Richard Sherman originally weatherspoon more recently. They've been playing a manual. You'll Moseley a corner. He's been better but undeniably. That's an area of the field. I think the chiefs would like to target so much of the performance of the San Francisco Secondary. It depends on the pass rush getting home and you know as a former DB pass rushes the secondary's best friend a lot of the great statistics we've seen from the secondary can dairy are the product of this pass. Rush being so explosive a pass rush that turns into a murderer's row. Win The big four Defoe Award. DEFOREST Buckner Eric Armstead and it boasts are all on the field when those four players are playing their sack ratio. The percentage of drawbacks drawbacks in which they get to the quarterback jumps from six percent to twenty three percent twenty three percent of the time. They're taking the quarterback down So Eh my question to you is they've been able to get a lot of pressure by just rushing four. Do you think that they'll have success against a chief offensive line. That's probably one of the better offensive lines they faced aced. No now. It's just for. I don't think they can be able to stop him. The more I think about it in a way that you framed that I think made it very clear my mind is I think they're going to have to flush them out. You got to get him to run with the football or get them uncomfortable to get rid of the football. Because I do think that the chiefs offense line is good enough that they're not just going to get massacred. And then you put on top of it. The chiefs offense is not one that killed by a fact like most offenses. If you second now it's second and fifteen second eighteen it's over it's third and twelve. It's over over. It's not true for the chiefs offense so they can get pressured they could get a sack. Can Patrick Mahomes can make a play in overcome that so I think that the the worst thing they could possibly do is believe leave. Their Front for is going to be enough to stop this chiefs offense so far this postseason what we've seen from Patrick. Mahomes is a record performance. I quarterback in NFL history to throw for two fifty at rush for fifty consecutive games in a postseason. Do you think he keeps it up. And that's a difficult question because yes you can think he'll play well but we're talking about playing at historic level. I think he does keep it up and I think I've said this a lot in to the point where people make fun of me is that he's never had a bad game and that's one of the most mind blowing. I guess you can call it that you see from a guy who's who's just been starting for two years played a lot of games and there's never had a bad one like mediocre is the worst as you get out of them in in the big games. He's been fantastic gets thirteen touchdowns. Yeah no interceptions in his playoff career. And I know it's been said Ad Nauseam nor is why they are in Super Bowl last year because of off someone lining up offsides so like I've yet to see him shrivel into big moment he only seems to get bigger and until I see him Have a tough outing going to lean in favor
Kwon Alexander fully cleared by 49ers medical staff before Vikings game
"Kwon Alexander has been fully cleared by the many teams medical staffs and ultimately if he goes Saturday or how much she goes will be a coaching decision everybody was at practice today the only guys or limited were Mike person D. Ford and can tavy is
