"Incorrect, Kim Chris wins zone. Chris. I'm not on the list. Nowhere near nowhere near the list. Can I tell you the other players I was thinking about? Yes. Redeem yourself. I was thinking Simona Halep, but I think there might be a bit early for her. No, Simona Halep would also have been an incorrect answer, Chris. What about. Sara errani on my list? So ironic. Yeah, sorry, irani number 6 in the rankings. And one more player in the top ten. No one got any ideas. We've spoken about her recently, actually, petrova. It's not but portrayer is on the list at number 12. I was talking about whose number four in the rankings, agnieszka, rad vanska. Oh, that is bad. We should have got that. She's been everywhere this week. So you could have had I was trying to think he got to the slam fire. I'll go from one to 20. You could have had Azarenka, Sharapova, Serena Williams, advanced Kerber, irani, Lee nar, Petra kvitova, Sam Stosur, Caroline wozniacki, Marion Bartoli, Nadia petrova, and Ivanovich, Maria kirilenko, Dominika cibulkova, Roberta Vinci, Lucy savage, Julia gerges, kaia kanepi, and the final one macro rover of Russia. Now which macaroni was that is that the one who's playing now? The older. That would make sense. Not the one with the same name, who they like the year of birth. But ask where the inspiration came for this bonjour. This seems rather unusual. I don't know, I just felt, you know, 2012, it was the time that tennis was in London for the Olympics and for me that was a very fun year on the tour. There were lots of big names on the WTA Tour and I just wanted to relive past glories. Excellent. I quite like those. Memory lanes. Yeah. Excellent. I love it. And although I lost, I think we both did pretty well. So well done us. Let's have a look at what's in the mailbag this week, because we have got a lovely email from David, who has asked us, hi guys, it seems like a lot more players are withdrawing from matches and tournaments and getting injured. What do you think is behind this? So quite an interesting and thought provoking question from David. Thank you for getting in touch. Joel, let's start with you. What do you think might be the reason for the well, the seeming increase in withdrawals? Because it does seem to be quite a lot these days, isn't there? Yeah, I think first of all, I think just the game in general has got a lot more physical, particularly on the men's tour and I think that physicality. There's been ushered in bi players like by like Rafa Nadal. I think has led to more led to more withdrawals and injuries. I also think that there's just loads of tennis on the calendar. And I feel like some players might feel pressured into playing events whether that's for sponsorship or for prize money or ranking points and again, they might not necessarily be fully fit. The season is January to November. It is very, very long. And putting so much wear and tear and pressure on your body, considering the court surfaces as well. It's not very forgiving and I think if you don't pick your schedule and know your limitations that we've seen the big players, I think, especially do over the years, thinking about Andy Murray and how he picks and chooses events. I think it can, it can get very demanding on you very, very quickly. And again, I think that's another reason why we're seeing, I think, more injuries in generally. Yeah, and also I was thinking, maybe players are just better aware of when they should reach their limits and call it a bit of a day, whereas before they might have just wanted to have plowed on, but there's a bit more of a self care attitude like when they do get to that point and they're not feeling great. It's like actually I need to look after my body and maybe that's a healthier attitude when you do find that there's issues. Maybe it's a post COVID thing, more germs going around, like that we're not already immune to because we're not traveling for a while. I don't know. There's the whole load of things. A lot of sponsorship activity, of course, as well. Like you mentioned, there's a lot more demands. Chris, what do you think? What's your what's your two penne on this? Why do you think that there might be more withdrawals than normal, more injuries, perhaps happening? Yeah, I think a lot of players didn't really take an off season in the traditional way. We've seen a lot more activity that is taken to the sponsorship. There's a lot more money on the line, a lot more kind of pressures to be on the court as much as possible. Something that struck me about this about this question particularly, some of the quotes from players about the tennis balls they've been playing with having lots of difficulties with them, especially when it's come to their wrists and Medvedev was very vocal on this this week. And I think he didn't really want to be one of those players that moans about the balls.

"Had a good match out of that. But for me, it is kind of the frustration that Dennis has had a bit of a maybe year after what we thought would be a really great year for him. Positive signs, but at the end of the, I mean, I would have rather fast forwarded a final set tiebreak between these two because it felt pretty inevitable as we went. Yeah, it did, didn't it? But yeah, Rublev Rublev coming through. And yeah, I think, as you said, he does, there are things there are questions on whether he is a player who doesn't necessarily have a plan B, can beat the lower ranks players, but once it gets to a certain level, isn't able to live with it, but who knows? Maybe the U.S. open is a chance where he can break out of that. That characterization. But let's move on to the women because we had a fantastic another fantastic match between Petra kvitova and garbine muguruza both multiple Grand Slam champions, Chris, I'm just going to say it now. How did garbine muguruza lose this match? I honestly think she's asking herself the same question. I watched quite a lot of it and every time I sort of looked away, it seemed like I was back in the match. Muguruza, it's such a, I was torn. I think we all would like to see muguruza do well. She's a player who should have the world. She has the game. She moves well. She's got a great serve. It's all between the ears with her. And I think it shows when you let players back into the match because kvitova was not serving well for I'd say most of this match, but she really, really wanted it and she had a fearlessness to her game in those big moments. Although it was really competitive and it was a real, it was an epic. I think it's one of those ones a bit like the Serena match where she'll be thinking if only I'd taken this point at this time up in the first up in the third so great to see a tie break of that quality that was really a highlight of the match for me. But it's just a shame that someone wasn't able to take those chances and having had the match point. It's quite reminiscent of that third round match against Osaka where who knows what could have happened for muguruza in that tournament. And I think the season that muguruza has had. I think I look at this kind of twofold in the sense that even the performances she's put in here, particularly this performance against kvitova. I think we'll give her a real boost. I think going into the last part of the season. But at the same time, I think because of the matches and the defeats that she has had so far this season. I do wonder if in those big moments, you know, she just did not have enough confidence. I didn't back herself, did she? I think you could be. No. And I think kvitova sensed that was ready to pounce on it and ultimately was able to come through in the end. And it's interesting to me that kvitova, the U.S. open is her least successful Grand Slam she's never gone past the quarterfinals at flushing Meadows. It felt a match that at times certainly was on muguruza's plate. But yeah, it's going to be fascinating to see how kvitova gets through. Azarenka as well. Another player in this category of a Grand Slam champions from yesteryear also putting a great match together against Petra martic. What do you make of this one? Because I was so impressed with as a record just took apart Marty, who's quite a dangerous player. You know, he's very experienced like Ali's corneille who will get on to face Danielle Collins, but yeah, Azarenka coming through 6 three 6 love against what on paper felt like a very dangerous opponent. Again, very, very impressive. I was so impressed with her level. It was one of those days where she was seeing it like a football and martic was not paying badly either. And so there were lots of really big points in that match and she fought for every single point. And I think if you want to see a player who almost had like a Sharapova like desire to win every single point, not to give a single point away and she could have easily have won that second set 6 two, but she wanted to win at 6 live and you saw it in her eyes and her Gritty determination that she was not giving away any form of charity that day. It was absolutely relentless. The bagel. She really did. I think she really wanted to make a big point to the rest of the draw that she may have been bagel by rady carne who, a couple of weeks before, but now she's handing out the bagels. So it's great to be here. Do you think has changed? Because it's been such a short period of time, but I did genuinely not believe we would be talking about Victoria Azarenka being around for being with this year's U.S. open. I know that she's had great performances here before, but yeah, this has caught me off guard a little bit. So I think she's a bit of a Serena in the sense that the matches that come before a Grand Slam don't necessarily always have that much of an impact, I think. I've never seen her play or look as underpowered as she did. I think it was like in 2020 when she played Venus Williams in the first round of the top seed open and I just thought, where did she go from here? There's not enough pace on her forehand. Her backhand wasn't firing her served it to bit dodgy. And I think it's when it clicks, it really clicks. And when it does, it doesn't. We've seen her go out early and grand slams. So let's hope that this is a clicking moment because if she plays like that, I mean it's top tier tennis and it's something that I think the U.S. crowd will absolutely lap up seeing her play well again. Definitely. And we also had wins for sabalenka, the number one seat eager field tech Caroline of it as well against Belinda bencic. But perhaps for me, one of the, one of the more interesting matches was Danielle Collins, Elise corneille, Danielle Collins coming through 6 four 7 6 really tight second set tiebreak, Collins getting it done 1311. I mean, Kourtney is a little bit like Marty in terms of so much experience, been there, done that on the tour for a long time now. But yeah, Danielle Collins, another player who maybe like Azarenka just I feel like she's developing this again this identity that she's a big game player and regardless of what she does in the

"It made me want to cry for her. Yeah. And it was interesting that kvitova was forehand slicing the ball. You know, she really reigned in her own game. I think sensing the nerves down the other end and took advantage of them. But then it got to the final stages of the final set tiebreak and suddenly the tennis just peaked and muguruza saved, saved a match point with a brilliant return and then passing shot winner after kvitova had served and volleyed on match point. And then convicted for herself at ten all in the tiebreak, having, as I said, kept a lid on some of her shots, just suddenly went for it on a forehand down the line, hit the winner, gave her trademark celebration, the crowd was up. It was just incredible scenes and she then won the tiebreak and kept up this incredible head to head record that she's got against muguruza and which is now 6 one in her favor. And I think for me guru, it's a particularly tough loss because she could have exercised a couple of demons. You know, she could have killed a couple of birds with one stone really by beating kvitova and also stringing together three wins, which she hasn't done all season. And closing out a really tight match. Yeah, just three. Three birds, one stone. She left the court. Yeah, we've been worried about margarita today, but she did she did just walk past this David shortly before he arrived. Wandered into the hotel with ice cream

"We know about the depth, but just in that quarter specifically, you've also got Amanda and Nissan over who starts against Julia Putin saver, you've got Yelena oster penko, of course, one of the only people on tour who knows the secret to beating Yugoslavia as she's as she told everyone. She opens against shim wins Zhang, which is another fantastic first round match. You've also got Petra kvitova in there, Bernard apera, who I believe at the time of recording hasn't lost since Wimbledon. He's on a 12 match winning streak. Yeah, she went back to back titles on the clay. Do you remember when we did that pod with Charlie acker share? We were big on Bernardo pere and she's kept it going. She didn't play in the masters events and that's just kept it going. You've also got garbine muguruza desperately looking for form and of course because it's the number one seed section you've got Jessica bagula because she always lands in the section with the number one seed, but if there's a time to be in there, he goes to film tech feels, I still feel that if I had to pick a favorite, it probably is her, given what she did earlier in the season, but she feels much more vulnerable than she did in March April May through to the Frank Chauvin. So it's an absolutely fascinating top section of that drawer. I haven't even mentioned Sofia kennan, another Grand Slam champion in there who seems to be finding a little bit of form in Cleveland as well. It's in the land. It's chockablock in the land. Tennis in the lab, forming the land. Wow. It's fascinating, isn't it? There's just so many storylines, so many intriguing matchups and I think around into some tennis fans today that were going out there to enjoy the fan week that they've got on here. "Well, hello podcast fans and tennis fans and greetings from the south coast of England. I don't know why I'm talking like a butlin's redcoat maybe because I am on the south coast of England, which I realized for you is not exciting at all because it's where you live, but for me, very exciting. I am on holiday briefly coming home tomorrow. Does that mean you just permanently on holiday, Matt? I've just been on, I've been on a ferry, I've paddled in the sea. Is this just everyday life for you in Wagner? Welcome to my world. Yeah. In fact, I ran round butlins in bognor this morning. You see what he's done there, David. He's just, he's become one of these people that drops in that you've been for a run. Drops his exercise routine in. One step away from sharing pictures of your Strava. And that is when, you know, we love Matt statt, but you would have to do this. That is too high a price to pay for a stat. Global on the same page about that. David a doing. All right, I'm in the Midlands. Done no exercise. Not on holiday anymore. Just been watching. It's still good a term though. Still got a ton. I barely moved from the TV screen because of all the tennis. It's been crazy. Yeah, I mean, I'm going to, I'm going to start this podcast in exactly the same way I started was it the last podcast or the last but one podcast and just praising the one week 1000 event format. Because it's just been joyous. Yesterday's schedule. I think was one of the best single day orders of play I have ever seen. And that is what that is what you don't get at a Grand Slam. You get lots of other great things that you don't get at a 1000 event, but you don't get that dense schedule of just, oh my goodness me, it's all too much. I'm going to need 17 screens. It's overwhelming. What? Exactly. The Wimbledon champion against the two time Grand Slam champion and former world number one is on court four. And part of your brain is outraged about that, but the other part of your brain is looking through the matches and going, I don't know which one I'd move to make way for that one. It's been this has been two weeks of just advert for one week long masters events. I know I'm just repeating last week's pod, but I think it bears repeating. Look, I don't know whether we say this every year. I think because of the pandemic, I've slightly forgotten what it used to be like in a way. It does feel even more intense. These two weeks, I can't remember ever feeling like I'm missing this much on watching that much tennis and yet I still feel like I'm missing stuff all the time. And we're actually just having a chat about which players might have won the lot, you know, one of these tournaments and also gone on to win the U.S. open. And I think that maybe is the only downside to it, is that there are players that are not playing this tournament or have pulled out. I'm not a 100% sure they're all because of acute injuries that they just can't play with. They may well be saving themselves or they may have heart put in a three quarter effort because they just feel like it's undoable. We know one or two have done it, but it's so difficult. It's not just the three tournaments in four weeks. It's the fact that you're playing every day for days on end and it's matches getting longer and matches getting tougher. Well, even if we look at just these last two weeks, I think an early takeaway of Cincinnati so far is how the players who performed really well in Canada have not performed well in Cincinnati all four of the men semifinalists from Canada lost their opening match in Cincinnati. Her character is rude to Shelton more on him later and Evans to cryonic and then in the women, Jessica pegula is the only player at the time of recording still in the draw who was in the semis last week in Canada now in the draw beat Marta kostyuk halleck did win a match but now withdrawn political veloster mertens and had admired lost to oster penko. So yeah, it's really, really tough to go back to back in these weeks. I think one day I would like to do a breakdown of what the toughest double is. Is it Canada Cincinnati? Is it Madrid Rome? Is it Indian Wells Miami, but I feel like it might be this one with the proximity to the slam late in the season. An unforgiving hardcourt. Exactly. And crammed into a week. It's a really tough stretch of the season, but great for us because there's so much tennis. Yeah, last player to pull off the treble Raphael Nadal in 2013. That's not going to happen for him. This year, what we knew it wasn't going to happen because he didn't even play in Canada, but more on Rafael Nadal shortly. We want to start with the with the women's draw and we're at the last 16 stage. We've got iga shield tech into Madison keys and some risk against Elena were back in Aida Tommy novich against Vancouver, Petra kvitova currently in action against San Juan. What's the score there David? 6 one kvitova first search. You want it in just over 20 minutes and it's a jaber is just had a set point in the second set. So it's turned into a good battle and in some ways I know their age isn't that different, but it feels slightly generational this because jaber is a recent arrival at the very top end of the game and she's playing somebody who we've stopped talking about really in Petra kvitova and yet has shown here that her top level is still formidable. Pigula against rady carne who is the first night session matched tonight plenty more on emirati Carney to come. ELISA mertens against Caroline Garcia arena Saba lenka faces Shelby Rogers and Zhong shuai against a net cultivate. So sort of a smattering of expected predictable names and a smattering of not so predictable names and a smattering of names about whom nothing is ever predictable. Petra kvitova, I'm looking at you. Let's deal with the withdrawals and injuries first. Let's get the, let's get the bombers out of the way. And by bummers, I mean both of your predictions, let's just cover that off. You have my deepest sympathies. Both of you, as somebody who has been burned by the flame of injury before. I feel you two were too ankle injuries. Terribly bad luck, not just for David Laura Matt Roberts, but also for cocoa gough

"Oh. No Serena Williams. Oh dear. Yeah, that was quite tough. That was quite tough. I'm not gonna lie. But you're 8 players. I mean, any other guesses, who are you going to see? Probably have gone for kvitova bench. I was thinking Caroline Garcia, I think it was the year before she got to the. Oh, was Joe conta there, actually. No joke. Petra kvitova was there. So you could have said that. Naomi Osaka. Sloane Stephens reached the final. And she lost. Yes. Did she win suddenly coming back to me now? And number 7 and number 8 were Karolina Pliskova. And Kiki Berto. Okay, I would never have said her, but reached the semifinals. So yeah, those were your 8 Kerber wozniacki Osaka kvitova Stevens svitolina Pliskova burtons and I didn't ask for this Kim, but I'm sure our listeners, if you were an incredible incredible incredible knowledge, you would have known the two alternates for the event and they were Cass akina and Sevastopol. So a little bonus there as well, but yeah, quite a tough one. I'm not going to lie, but to be fair, I feel like you've been getting part of the courts quite frequently quite regularly. So I'm sort of glad this is sort of put you back in your back in your place. Oh, thanks. I mean, I think anyone who knew Sevastopol as the Alzheimer that they deserve a gold medal that's really difficult. But thank you very much. Listeners, I hope you enjoyed that challenge. I know I certainly did about enjoyed, but I found that very tough I have to say. So thanks, Joel. And we do have a question from the tennis weekly mailbag. So John got in contact with us on email. Thank you, John. John's question was following Wimbledon's move to take henman hill to New York City, which city would you like them to take it next? So anyone who didn't see, there was like a hem and hill version set up in New York, which was quite fun. We put it on our Twitter about a week ago or so. So John, thank you for your question. Oh, this is quite tough. Where would you? Where would you like the hill to be taken to Joel? Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. When I thought about other cities, I did not think about time zones and whether it works from that perspective. I just thought about it more from opening up tennis and I were quite like to see him and hill. Go to South America, I think it would just be great to see sort of Wimbledon. It will pride itself on exclusivity. It's a special event. I wouldn't have to open it. I want them to open it up even further and I wonder if they could take it to somewhere like Rio de Janeiro or Mexico City or Guadalajara, some place where it would just look very, very, I think eye catching and I think would be very, very cool and interesting. For like no New York City is very odd and brand for Wimbledon to take hedman hill. So I wonder whether they could maybe push the boat out a bit further and go to a city where it feels like they're taking tennis to new audiences and I wonder if for me South America could potentially be on the car. Yeah, I have like a very tropical henman hill. I think that sounds good. I was thinking more of places that already had hills. Which doesn't really make sense unless something yeah they could make use of an existing hill. Well, I was thinking Rio de Janeiro, the sugar Lake mountain. Yes, yes. That would be very similar. Exactly. I was thinking Rome or Sheffield because they're built on 7 hills and that just. I don't know, I was thinking of hills generally or Lisbon, I think, has a few hills. That would be quite fun. Okay. Very nice. Not croydon town center. That would significantly improve croydon town center. So yes, maybe. And that's just a tram ride away from Wimbledon. So they wouldn't have to go very far. That would be much more environmentally friendly. But no, thank you, John. Good question. Listeners, where would you take the hill to? Let us know your thoughts. And that brings us on to our news from the world of tennis. First of all, Joel this week, we've got the ATPs off court coaching, it started to be trialled for the second half of the season. So basically, coaching will be allowed from designated coach seats during both qualifying and main draw matches at ATP tour events and this started last week. It's also going to be happening at the U.S. open and at the ATP finals in Turin. So I mean, what do you make of this obviously? It's a trial, so it may not may not last, but I think it's going to be interesting to see how certain players get on maybe certain plays won't really benefit, but obviously the women's tour are already doing it. So and that's been in place for a while. But what are your initial thoughts? It's interesting that it's only just, I think, you know, come to the ATP tour as a trial given that it's been on the WTA Tour now for what feels like a while. I feel like their trial is still going on and maybe they haven't got a decision yet and adding the ATP tour into the mix and having it kind of consistent across both tours means that they can make a decision further down the line that perhaps is equal across both men and women. I still kind of think in principle the same sorts of things when I heard the trial was going to happen on the WTA side in the sense that for me tennis is an individual sport and when players step onto the court, they should not be having to get the support from their coaches in order to kind of figure out how to win a tennis match. I think the role of a coach is to get their player ready before they step on the court. I don't think that they should be able to have any sort of legal influence during the game.

President Biden denounces the Supreme Court's ruling against abortion rights. The president says the high court's conservative majority essentially issued a challenge with what he calls an extreme and wrong headed ruling ending the constitutional right to abortion. The challenge is go out and vote. Saying the fastest way to restore the right is for Congress to pass a national law, but it needs more Democrats first. Your vote can make that a reality. "Of course she's capable. I think she will. Yeah, I think when you've got that game, when it clicks, she's going to do a lot of winning. And I think here, I mean, we've compared a lot of people have compared her to a right handed Petra kvitova. Won this tournament twice. Came close some other times. I could see her winning Wimbledon. Maybe I'm trying not to predict her the way I did with Petra kvitova about 6 times, only for us to lose in the first round. Maybe I've been scared of. Yeah, I don't feel like she's going to get, you know, ten. But I can see you're getting two or three. Petra kvitova is starting here. I think I'm more, I agree with that. I think I'm more confident that on jabber will get off the mark than I am about Elena Rebecca winning again. Listen to me. Today doesn't shake. Look at this about turn. In a mix of my lifetime. A 100% going to win. And also reams words and what you guys were saying, I just, yeah, I didn't quite, I think I was a bit fearful to commit to it because I thought there are still too many doubts and too many unknowns and strictly speaking those still exist if you want to look at it on paper. She had a chance today she was a setup. She didn't win. But I'm probably where you were at the start of the French Open now. Understood. I don't know. It's a good place to be. It has been a fun week. Just one final thing to wrap up the women's final today, Matt, the C new witnessed, as you were leaving, the Elena were back in a press conference. Yeah, that's right. I mean, there was a packed press conference, I don't know how many journalists were in there, probably a hundred or so shuffling out and could hear this noise, this charming going on, I thought, I reckon she burr is in with the fans. And that was exactly what happens. I made my way over to the sort of where the crowd of fans were gathering outside the media center and onto your boat came down with her plate, held it aloft and they were singing songs and she was posing for pictures and signing autographs. I think it was just a really special scene and a reminder of that connection that she has, especially with the Tunisian fans, you know, I think a lot of them were Tunisian fans. And so often, you know, the fans don't really get to be right in among the players. The players will stand on the balcony and made a point of going down there. It was scenes. It was lovely. And also a reminder of what you said earlier in the podcast that her impact and the significance of her and what she's done did not hinge on her winning. Exactly. That felt like exactly the same volume of chanting that there would have been they were singing. They were singing. It was wonderful. It was absolutely wonderful. Incidentally, the men's doubles final is in a 5th set. Everyone. Who the author? Why can't why can't I get predictions points for that? Because it doesn't work. I regret bringing up predictions. But anyway, it's on serve in the 5th set. Mexico, 40 31, two, I reckon it's going to a deciding set tiebreak. I'll give you one point for that. What do we think is going to happen in the men's singles final tomorrow? Someone has to take this. You both subtly move the microphone. A little bit further away. So whilst you guys were in the press comments with on schemer and Elena Rebecca, I was waiting to doorstep Matt's velanda to talk about this final for BBC Radio 5 live, which I did. And he's so nice. He's so helpful. And anyway, I pierced his flesh with my earring earlier this week. You did? I saw him in the media restaurant and I gave him a hug. Don't mention this on the group chat. You did mention something about Harry Potter. I gave him a hug and I was wearing little hoops that had sort of sharp spikes on them like a sort of sun. Right? And drew blood. He was very good about it. Glad he didn't put two and two together and think, oh, the tennis podcast, not talking to him. Anyway, as you were. So anyway, after we patched up his flesh wound, he told me that he thinks center court will, I don't want to say inhibits Nick curios, but it will kind of tame him and it will make him play in a more respectful manner, a more straightforward manner, which actually he thinks is what curiosity needs to do in order to win this match. He thinks, and I share that view. And I actually watched that this morning. There's a 13 minute highlight on tennis TV on YouTube of curiosity against Djokovic and Indian Wells in 2017. And it's noticeable, I mean, curious was playing brilliantly in that tournament. And in that run, that's the one we had semifinal against Federer in Miami as well. He was on a great run. He was dialed in. His focus was there. Yes, he was playing some through the leg shots against Vera and all that sort of thing. But against Djokovic, certainly in the early stages of that match, it's just about the tenets. It served. It's four hand. It's waiting out, Novak Djokovic from the back of the court. Almost saying, come on, let's just hit through me. Hit through me if you can.

"She's just not quite at the moment, and it's not she was good today in part. She got beaten by Elena rabenau. What's this called? Two straight sets, one break of serve in the first. She's a breakdown in the second, came back hung toff the whole way. There was never a moment where she was in control of this match. She was just hanging in, took it to a tie break and lost out in fine margins. And the contrast in demeanors between these two was so stark. You've got and rescue the Street Fighter and Rebecca, the completely placid sort of, is she sleepwalking vibe. And she fully conscious, right? In the living there lights out of it at the same time. Absolutely. Just an extraordinary contrast. And it's no secret that I love Andres goo and not just because of a dog or just fine to magnetic and I just, I wanted to do well and I think herding well equals tennis doing well and I don't think losing today is a disaster or back in as a very good player. But she does need to start winning some of these. Maybe the summer and building, I hope so. So maybe she can build up a bit of momentum. If you can stay fit and start getting several matches on the hardcourts under a belt. We know it's there. Yeah. Hope so. She needs to get on a roll and get the muscle memory back of just winning. Yeah. She just trust that it'll happen. And isn't questioning herself all the time, it needs to get back on digital rather than analog. It's quite big. In the summer I was thinking, the players that seem to do well in New York are the ones that went on a run. Think of Daniel Medvedev and years ago pat rafter winning the thing and after winning everything. By the way, is we're back in a happening. Is she gonna be a force? It's very difficult to tell because that demeanor is so disarming. A Hannah loves her. Does she? Yeah. Yeah. Hannah, I don't want to speak for Hannah, but I think Hannah really likes players and will come on to another one in Petra kvitova, who just have such a sweet strike of the ball and hit the ball so hard, and yet have this contrast in demeanor, which is calm. I think Hannah quite likes that contrast. We started our day watching Petra kvitova against Ana bogdan. It turned into a hell of a match. After Petra kvitova squandered 6 one 5 one lead, ended up in a second set tiebreak. It was fantastic. I was commentating about this time, I did a brilliant way to start the day. It just looked vintage. Up until that point. Utterly vintage, going for everything couldn't miss loosest arm in the world. Matt Matt didn't quite know what to do because obviously watching Petra kvitova in that form is seductive, but Ana bog downs on the back hand list. Oh. And it is a lovely backhand can confirm. What was it doing for 6 one? 5 on them. Just getting nowhere near kavitha's winners. Actually, she wasn't playing that badly. She wasn't. She couldn't get near the ball. Could not get there. It was 2011, 2014. As you said, vintage from kvitova. But then it didn't take her to go off much for bogdan to go out. Okay, there's no back end. Horizon horizon. Suddenly a couple of backhands down the line and she's believing. I was a great match. It was really, really great. Just such clean hitting and great rallies and it became really competitive with bogdan's comeback. Yeah, I thought that was probably the match today. I enjoyed the most, actually. Kavitha for now plays bid dossa. Will it really good today against arena barrow? We watched a fair bit of this on the TV this morning. And but also did look really good, but I'm not, I think it was a kind match up for her with Barra Barra didn't really ask her the questions which might test the hope that gets on center court. Me too. I think center court would enjoy that. Let's say that much. Well, I think without question Katie boulter will be put on center. Right. So it's a question of whether they're prepared to put two women's matches. I hope the answer is yes. Those two and then sits a past curios, but would they put Nadal on one? They might. There's a candidate also golf and golf and it's a moment to be on tech corner. He's a great matches. I'm going to wash all of them anyway. They both want to do obviously to set that up and yeah. That's mouth watering. Critique of a one today again beat Victoria golly bitch again, anyone is a good win for critique. Can play on grass. She had a run here last year, didn't she? I think that's not get the fanfare out because it's not about her winning slams again at the moment it's just about getting these wings and the early building blocks. I'm pleased for it. She's got either Tom Lyanna vich next who's tough. It's not been a very good day for the backhand list, is it? And it's some over one. On top of the backhand listing. That's really all that matters when it comes to back end. Because there are several spaces between her and the other four. Is golf on the backhand list. Not on the list, but a great backhand. Right, okay. Great back. She's your provisional. She's your reserve. A couple of other bits. I'm gonna call it one today. She was down in both sets against Kirsten flipkens, ended up coming back. That wasn't really the story though. The story ended up being the fact that was cursed and flipkens last ever match and the story quite frankly was the hug. Afterwards, I mean, is there anybody better to have your last match against than Simona halleck? She just get it, doesn't she? She gets it. It was so warm and lovely. Very very emotional with Kirsten Philippines, obviously Wimbledon a particularly special place for us. She had that run to the semifinals and a junior champion here, you know, this is the place for her, isn't it? And I'm pleased that she had Simona Halep on the court with her. For that moment, you wouldn't want it to be Elaine roster. Yeah, can you imagine? You're coming the impressive. Yeah, it's a final match. This isn't about you. And I want to quite easily, didn't they? Jessica bagula also a winner today, beat Harriet dart in three sets, came back after losing the first. Tough one for dart, having been in that position, but good stuff from pagoda because she's coming here. Cold, hasn't she? She didn't play on grass before Wimbledon, so she plays Petra martic next, the order of play for tomorrow looks thus center court starts with Diane parry against joubert and Novak Djokovic against countryman mere kits manovich and finally Steve Johnson up against British number one Cameron norrie. That's one of those that if you're not British and you've got a center court ticket, you'd be a bit miffed with news, like it's like when they put art rinder knish on chatterer in Paris. But anyway. Quite looking forward to seeing Britain and we've got every right to do that. And he is the 9th seed, so. I want to say that Paris match though against. Me, you can, David..

"Had match point wasn't able to get the job done and it really kind of felt with this win today. It was sort of therapeutic in the sense that it's able to exercise those demons. Exercise those demons even. Given what happened on this court last year. And I think that does take that does have to take belief and confidence and to really kind of believe that you can get through that and I do think we've seen over certainly over the last 6 months or so that we've seen her on court and I actually just don't think the belief has been there. There's been a few too many three set losses. There's been flashes of brilliance agreed, but it's ultimately unfortunately at the WTA Tour level ended in ended in defeat. And it was actually great, I think, just this time to see her just take hold of the situation and come through it. Yeah, and I think Heather Watson, when any British fan knows, if you see how the Watson up a break in the first set, you know, she probably will lose in three. It's one of those ones where it's almost like there's a it's one of those things. Unwritten rule of tennis. It is and you get nervous for it, but hopefully after this one, she's been able to mentally write the wrong of last Jonah mind, and she can really kind of play some free tennis. So next round she has Wang, who took out the number 14 seed Belinda bench, who has that sort of giant killing reputation as well. I mean, she's currently right. Well, exactly. She can't write one 40 and since kind of the quarterfinal and the fourth round at the U.S. open back end 2019, 2020, which took out Serena. She just hasn't been able to string together the wind shed a few matches in Australia. I think she won this year, but that's got to be an opportunity. That's a great draw for a second round when you could be facing number 14 seed. So what do you reckon? Can Heather go deeper in the tournament? Well, I hope so. I hope so. You know, as I said, it's been a rough she's admitted it's been a rough couple of years for her and she'll take great belief and confidence from this victory, and I hope she can carry that momentum on. It was also great to see Katie bolter as well today and other Brit win and through to round two in the ladies section against Clara Burrell, 7 5 6 three. Indeed indeed. There were a couple of quite tight tussles for players. I'm not going to like Chris. I thought, you know, could be could feature at the latter end of the tournament in particular cocoa gough. Who had a very hard fought win against Russo of Romania two 6 6 three 7 5 in the third set, kvitova also had a good lead up tournament and lost the first set to Jasmine paoli 6 two and I was thinking, where did that come from? A little bit like had admire in day one. But yeah, a couple of Grand Slam champions there that I thought were maybe going to have easier matches than they necessarily did. But certainly good tests for them to come through. Absolutely. I think for sure, Patrick kvitova, it's always a challenge for her going kind of coming off the back of a great week because she does have those great weeks and they tend to be slightly isolation, but it was just too many areas. It seems to just come out of nowhere I feel. Yeah, like when I feel like we put kvitova in that camp of, I do nothing, I do nothing. I do nothing. Get to a Grand Slam, and then we're still talking about, oh, do you know what? Could be a, it could be a dark horse for this ornament. Completely. And I even thought maybe this tournament she's someone you definitely wouldn't want to face, but can she get through those early rounds. So very promising that she did get through and she got better. Coco, sorry, surprised by that because she really does enjoy playing on grass. But she got very lucky to come through. And so a lot of collectors that viewers were probably watching that eagle eyed because if someone predicted a round one exit, that would have been probably the only person who would have predicted that. I mean, Kim, I think, has got her going to the semifinals spoiler alert for collect set. But yeah, no, that was definitely a big sigh of relief for coco Goff. Because I think in Australia as well, she had a good lead up tournament, but I think she went out in round one. A clay specialist. Yeah. Well, she does. She loves. She loves the dirt, so. Maybe it's been more than she thought. But moving on to the men's side, the best that the biggest seed to go out today was Felix auger Alice, number 6 seed. We had eyes on this match me and Kim in our preview pods, maxime Crecy, very much a dark horse. Not necessarily for the tournament, but certainly to knock out seeded players. I mean, I'd back in for the quarterfinal now after that result. I mean, why would you bet against him? I think it was two tiebreak sets and then a 6 four second set. It'd be hard to beg against him. Also, Joel, I am paying full attention, Serena saved a match point where in a tiebreak. Wow. Things are happening. I'm focusing all I have to look at is the service feed. That's all I know. And it's slowing down. And the second server making me nervous. But yeah, there was a great win I was watching some of that match..

"But I think she feels confident that she can handle it a lot better now given those moments she's kind of found herself in the past. I mean, she spoke about Roland Garros and saying, you know, afterwards, she said, after Roland Garros, it was really a mess. And I think that's where, you know, she obviously brought her sports psychologist to help her really kind of handle that. And I certainly think that is going to be the same situation there. And I think she's going to handle it very, very well. I think what's kind of interesting is we're seeing Naomi Osaka, I think kind of resurgence a little bit again with the same time sort of ash bharti stepping away from the sport. So although I think we've got this immediate heir apparent in Schmidt in terms of the rankings who's to say him that in the future, Osaka, again, given what we've seen this week, if she can kind of continue and keep it going. I certainly think that's another player who is ready. I think to kind of step up and be counted, which, again, I look at, I look at some of the players, I particularly look at sabalenka, for example, who has been the top seed for a number of tournaments, it feels like in the last few weeks, but hasn't really able hasn't really been able to kind of handle it. And I certainly hope, and I just don't think she's going to go that sort of way given the sort of mood she has been in at the moment with her dishing out kind of bagels, breadsticks, whatever you want to whoever you want. Don't think it's going to be like that against Petra kvitova, but yeah, it's an interesting, interesting times on the WTA Tour. Yeah, no, I mean, Christopher hasn't really, I feel like we haven't seen her get to this sort of stage in a while. She's not someone I've had confidence in making her getting her way through the drawers of late. But yeah, I think I agree on tech. I think she said, you know, all the work she's been doing with the psychologist. She's in a much better place to handle the pressure as opposed to immediately after the French Open win. I mean, one player, we're talking about whether players are able to cope and needing time out and whatnot. It's tricky. It's a reflection of just general life, isn't it? It's the tennis players are no different, but one player who's quite struggling as well at the moment is Victoria Azarenka says her personal life has been extremely stressful in recent weeks. We saw her just suddenly retire against the young Czech Linda Frederick, she was down a set in three love and Azarenka just suddenly shook hands and off she went and basically afterwards said that she should never have played that much and obviously wasn't in a fit mental state to do. So she's going to take a break and have some time away from the game. So let's hope that she also gets to support that she needs and hope to see her back on a court as and when is right for her. Yeah, it was interesting to hear that you could tell she wasn't in a good way with her match against through Vito. I mean, who is by the way looking very like a very good prospect. I mean, 6, 16 years old into the fourth round, very, very good, very, very good showing, but yeah, Azarenka, she shouted out why am I here? To her coaching box. So that sounds to me like maybe there was a little bit of frustration that a difference in opinion about whether to play it because it sounded like she should just not have been out there in the first place and yeah, we'll have to see how long she needs away from the game who knows. But yeah, not great to see and I know some people were talking about the fact that she lacked respect. She literally just kind of gave her, when I was watching on TV, it looked a little bit like an Irish goodbye. She literally just shook the hand and then left. There was no real kind of courtesy, but at the same time, I don't think, yeah, she should have just, she shouldn't have been out there. To me, it was quite clear she wanted to get off the court as quick as possible. So yeah, I hope Azarenka can regroup, recalibrate things, take that time off that you need. And I think, again, the tour at the moment is just becoming so it can be a very stressful environment. It's a very packed calendar. You want to pick your, I think you more and more now you've got to pick your moments and pick the tournaments you want to play in. So you don't I think get over stress and over get over frustrated or whatever it is because yeah obviously mental health is a big part of it and for some players they can struggle with it and it looks like for Azarenka. Yeah, she just needs that time to regroup. Yeah, I mean, I know that I don't do my day job as well when I feel like I've got a lot of stuff going on so it's no different for tennis players and in fact being on a big stage with cameras and media commitments are just even worse being in that spotlight and then the fame. So just one thing Joel, what's an Irish goodbye? I've never I've never heard of that. That's when you silently that's when you silently leave or you just leave without saying goodbye. Okay, I did not know that. So thank you. Well, I thought interpret an Irish goodbye. But yeah, for Azarenka, you just felt like she just wanted to get off the court as quick as possible. And yeah, I mean, she did she did post a statement afterwards. Yeah, saying, I'm sorry to the fans for what happened as you were great to cheer to cheer for me. It was the only reason I decided to step on the court. I always look forward to the challenge and pressure of competition, but today it was too much. I have to and we'll learn from this. I would like to congratulate my opponent and wish her best of luck in this tournament and beginning and the beginning of her professional career. So yeah, I mean, it was slightly interesting because yeah, I think a.

"Continue training well for Miami I know she was enjoying her golf anyway out in India while as has Rafa and some other players. It is a big golfing destination, isn't it? And she's definitely got involved in that as well. But Joel, another British player who actually did better than ever had a cardi. Harriet dart as a qualifier, beating, not only Anna Konya in the first round, but spital Lena and then kaya can epi, which has got to be some of her biggest wins of her career. I know he's fiscally as the first top 20 win of her whole career. So absolutely fantastic, you know, battling through from Harriet dart there. Fell short against Madison keys in straight sets, but you know, I think she's absolutely done herself really proud this week with all her efforts. Yeah, absolute landmark moment, I think, in her career. I think for British fans like myself, it did feel like when was this moment when was this moment going to come? I think we've seen it sort of happen already for like Katie balto and it felt like, you know, in that next line, Harriet dart was going to be the one that you were just sort of wondering where it was going to happen. She's been on some, you know, she's been playing again really, really good tennis recently to come through qualifying all the way through to the quarterfinals should be absolutely chuffed with that. Yeah, I mean, I think now press on and get up into the top 100. And I think with this competition, it'll just give her great belief that the caliber of a play of the caliber of opponents that she was beating, the experience of someone like nappy, the ranking of someone like Lena Selena, it will give her that great belief that she belongs on the WTA Tour in she can be like, I think be like I have a Watson in the sense of being a player who plies their trade predominantly on the WTA Tour as opposed to kind of the ITF and futures and whatever else there is underneath the main tour. So I certainly think that is the transition that I think she's hoping to make and I think with these results, it will give her all the confidence that she can go ahead and do it. Yeah, definitely that is the next step isn't it to be consistently in the top hundred consistently not needing to qualify for slams and he's playing more of the top events so you're not on that level below. Absolutely. Hopefully this gives her the confidence to go forth and do that. Let's look at the bottom half of the draw because we've got two quarter finals happening this evening. Zachary, as I said, she is a set and a break up. Yeah, a game away actually. It's kind of disconcerting watching it because both her and Robert kina are wearing exactly the same outfit, which is always fine kind of annoying. Why don't they ever, why don't they ever coordinate? Or why don't the why doesn't the brand ever coordinate or the sponsor? Or can't there just be a WhatsApp group, but it's like, are you wearing this today? Or, you know, instead of like black top and colorful skirt, the other one could wear colorful top, black skirt. I think it's that geometric Adidas skirt that you weren't a fan of Joel. They're both wearing that. I quite like it myself, but it's just, yeah. Well, it seems to be working for saccharin and not working for ri bikini 'cause saccharin looks like on her way to the semifinals. Yeah, she's been playing some pretty good tennis this week. She's just kind of going through the matches, she had a good win I think against kvitova and Darius savill as well. So yeah, another semifinal, see what she can go on from here, but she'll face the winner of and could a metaverse. Kim is the reigning champion, could a metaverse been playing some really, really good tennis. I mean, she was playing great tennis, I think, against Naomi Osaka that got a little bit overshadowed, which will come on to. And Kinect in some really, really good form. I mean, but also had a really, really good, straight sets win against Fernández, which I thought might have gone three sets. I thought there might have been an upset on the cards there, but yeah, again, these both of these players are in really, really good form at the moment. I mean, bodos has never lost a match in Indian Wells. She's 9 and O. She won it. She won it last October. And yeah, she's going from strength to strength to strength, and she's actually possibly one of, I think, three are women, both John tech and Zachary as well as bedo, they could finish as the new world number two, depending on how results go, which would be a career high for all of them. But data is also trying to become the first women to defend the title since Navratilova in 1990 and 1991. So yeah, it's not easy to defend an Indian Wells title, especially not twice in what 6 months, I suppose it would be. So we'll have to see how she gets on. And could a metaverse, her head to head against bodos. It's three O to metaverse. So it feels like it's maybe stacked a little bit against the rated champion but also going in and you're looking at the head to head, but yeah, given the way that she's playing, I said, watch some of the highlights of her match against Fernández. I do quite I do quite fancy a kind of coming through that given her, yeah, I think almost like Grigor Dimitrov, yeah, just loves the conditions of the desert. And I mean, let's go back to that coup d'etat of Osaka match because coup d'etat won it in straight sets. It was 6 love 6 four. But it did get overshadowed by the heckling from the crowd, a spectator shouted Naomi, you suck and that was, as she went to serve at the start of the third game, Osaka was in tears..

"The top seed is we've also had I think few dropouts here because critique of it is now in the top position. I think ash Barty pulled out of a change of schedule. We got muguruza in there, also at the bottom of the drawers the second seed. Quite exciting. We've got on your ball Petra kvitova in the second round, which is quite an interesting matchup. Kvitova is unseated at this 500, which just looks a bit funny when you look at the draw exactly be quite fun. I think Belinda bencic as well an unseated player she had a fantastic end to last season at the Billie Jean King cup, which I was there for. So I think she could be quite a dangerous threat as well in that bottom half. I think Paola Biden we've all seen her how well she plays on a hardcore as well that the WTA final she came through Yelena osta penko. So I think yeah, there's quite a few as you would expect at the 500 level event quite a few dangerous players, but I'd expect a seeded player to come through. I haven't even spoken about in net continent as well, who again could be one of those players, you just kind of carries on where they picked off at the end of last season. Yeah, we just don't know. She's like 7th in the world now and yeah, her exploits at the end of the game. I keep forgetting that happened. I don't know, just like I happened at the end of the season, that crazy streak she went on. And yeah, be curious to see if she can continue it. I mean, she could face the winner what she comes through her second round match could face the winner of kvitova or jabor. So it could be quite fun. Lots of tasty matchups. And I'm sure plenty more to come over the next few weeks. I think we'll be back on Thursday for an Australian open preview episode once the draw has been made. And I guess by then we'll know if Novak Djokovic is definitely playing or not. I'm sure if there's going to be a reversal of the recent court hearing that it will happen before then. Otherwise they might just be like, I'll be eve of the tournament. Oh, sorry, mate. We've decided to chuck you. You know what Kim? I sort of hope not so we can get like a de facto like luckiest loser placed at the very top in the double one seeded position. Which would be which would be hilarious. But I don't, yeah, I don't think that is going to happen. It's already been a much of so much of a shambles. I don't think I can take much more of it, but we will have to see. "Actually would go off to really could start saying they all went like a break up in matches but yeah. It's just stay story. If you don evans in terms of him at grand psalms. And i think he set himself the Very very good. very happy. with his clay season finishes on a on a dump squib really and Yeah he will be. I think he'll be disappointed. The he still not doing a job You know at the grand slam tournaments wet the most ranking points are on offer say yet spit of a shame and i it. It does leave door open. I feel for cam nori because that you know that i think they must be quite kleist now between british one and brush number tae feels like you know if there is a time where cam nori comes through and we'll be brushed number one arguably it's probably quite. It's quite close on the horizon. Yeah cam is also still on course for potential third round with rafeh. Say we'll see how that pans out. What man who did get his first win at roland garros was medvedev. Who is part of our collector. This tournament So i think you had him to lose in the first round at she joe potentially but he didn't he at showing fireworks in that much. We'll has bow expecting expecting that to be like yeah like blockbuster and it was just. It was a routine comfortable victory for the deaf. Yeah but blake didn't seem to be into it. Yeah so get down your method. Perhaps this'll be the stove of a long run to the semi finals or the final. We'll have to wait and see another player who managed to scrape three by the skin of his teeth. Janacek sinner saved a match point against a peer effort. He had a match point at five four in the fourth set so sin. Ob very pleased to come through that one. And he's joined in the second round by his two young compatriots at well. Lorenzo musetti who is italian but also call us alcatraz. He's spanish but that a three teenagers to reach second round say base also came through. I'm essentially. I think you called this one joe. He beat goffin straight-sets. Which actually i think that makes it. Six hours lost nine matches against top twenty players. So he's really racking up these like fairly big wins. Yeah he's not someone you want refacing at the moment so Very very impressive. I watched a bit of that one. Tv i think goffin played particularly badly. Apart from that. I sat the second set. Set were particularly competitive. Necessity was able to get it. Done was quite surprised. Lorenzo sonic i was not able to get it done against loyd harris. He fell in straight sets. That did take me by surprise a little bit. I'm but one play who did look really really gets Which sort of also surprised me. federa- against dennis is Came through in straight-sets and you know if this was any normal season with roger federer playing a full calendar year than you know. You wouldn't really bat an eyelid yourself. But but the fact that he hadn't played a grand slam for four hundred eighty seven days. And it's on clay cool in paris. I was wondering if this was going to be a little bit of a banana skin. And he came. He really came through for me in fall colors. Four hundred eighty seven days. It sounds like you've been counting among them off. Yeah exactly when will we see you again. Roja yeah it was very straightforward. He was very untroubled. Very comfortable. said didn't face a break point Estermann not the player. He beats jovic those many years ago at the i. It's fair to say and Yet great with federer. we'll have to see he's a he. He exceeded my expectations in that much and An unlike unlike another topsy. Joe who i think going back to sunday. The very first day of the tournament had quite different experience. Yes dominic thiem. Wow Pablo andy hall. I mean the the commonality shed between team and federal is is undo hard because andrew hall in the space of a few weeks beaten roger federer and dominik table on the Beat roger federer in geneva might remember on on fetters comeback to his home tournament at seven. Yeah he beat team from two sets down he one four six five seven six three six full six full. I mean it was one of the standout matches from round one Box it was something that i don't think anyone really could have expected. I mean andrew hall was zero and twenty four win loss record when two sets to love down in mejia's And he's also zero and eleven against top five players so it was very very surprising and despite the funk that dominic thiem is in two sets up you really felt that that was going to be one result and it was pablo under hall winning in five. Yeah i think this is. The first time that he has lost from tea sets up. I believe so. It's not great. Great from teases is quite a saad kid. I mean this is a guy. This is a guy who expects to go deep at the french open eastern that in the last two two years and him out in round one and have two weeks in front of him with nothing to do. I think he will be an. It's obviously a big time now big period for reflection. But it's a bit sad. We're not gonna see much more of dominic thiem. Well we're going to see him girls. No and him on the grass isn't particularly something you'd put two and two together and say you know. This is a great combination. So i really didn't know what to expect from him for the next few months He's oversee still kind of ongoing issues. You know he just said he was lacking power. It's just not not moving well enough. Just everything kind of is a bit off. He's sort of half cooked. Say is going to take time to get back up there. We hate to see him him up again. One player who had a very different experience was sashes verify who had the complete opposite. He was two sets down and then came back quite comprehensively winning well be bagel his opponent or scott in that fifth set We have we have seen this a few times before from his various i think in early rounds of slams where he's gordon g sets down to managed to come back and i think he did that quite a bit. The nas journey of the ended up winning that say perhaps he'll be a row now. Who knows one thing. That sparks perhaps. A bit of controversy is news that he signed ray lex as a sponsor and in light of the kind of domestic violence allegations. That were made kind of end of loss. J i take thing that's particularly. Go down. say well. I know quite surprising. Yeah you know there will be people out there looking at bronze like relax and thinking particularly with the number of tennis as they have to ready to. You need another one yeah. I don't really really really. You know some people. I feel like we'll have that kind of opinion but yeah very bizarre school line with that first round match very much. A tale of two halves. It was one of those weird batches were even though he was two sets down. Feel like he's still favourite to win it Which went and he was able to fit. Fit the switch in thoughts so Yeah he came through that. And then i just guess finally came out to the women. I wanna to talk about saba lincoln as anka very quickly because i think it was a very good day for both of them As rank came through. Very kind of fun match. I was watching some of this against save his six. Full two. six six three She comes up against clara tolson next from denmark player. I've got my eye on for the future. I'm really fascinated. See how that one goes. Yeah as our anchor in sabah. Lanker fill the could particularly not that part of the draw oversee now with asaka out as well Kavita overseas also out. It's mcgrath it's sorry not megrahi's and top pop. Its opening up for them quite nice. You think it's a free for all they could. Anyone is out for for anyone. I mean suppling still favor. I guess to come through all my pick jammer tevita for the semi never know they. Joe talking predictions all connect. To say isn't going. Say well because we've lost two players. So i've lost serena at a soccer and you've lost sarka and medvedev or they say everyone goes soccer wrong. Everyone that participated unfortunately go go herro as a result of pulling out daughter. Good start for us. He collects a listless interested. My picks were. I had federal getting to round for. Daniel medvedev out in round one so it was not particularly happy with that result of rude getting to the quarterfinals serena williams getting into the quarter finals i had soccer gang out in round three to i think powder pagosa that's not happening caroliina merkava going out in round three out that she had a bit of a today. Say yeah i'm down kim. I'm i'm not. I'm not feeling confident about owning a passing show. Mark the awarded you already. Yeah yeah i move it to come through against petkevich six four in the third set so i one time i was thinking..

"Dominic thiem crashes out and cam nori is the last singles brit standing a kim. What a few days. We have had in paris round. One is nearly a sunday monday. Tuesday i am absolutely loving it. We've had the holiday in the uk and it's just that may is just enabled me to sit on my safer have a drink and just take it all in and i feel that was the only way to enjoy round wa because there is literally so much to talk about. Yeah it's been around of thrills and spills but if debate and specs spectra as well and news is kind of reverberates. It outside of of the tennis world i think as well And it's also been lovely weather. I'm thinking those like some vibes like the tennis here in the u. k. And the style of the girls around the as well definitely getting those vibes again which is great But yeah there's so much talk about. And i guess there's any one place we can start really joe when that as with the a soccer News which is that. She has withdrawn from ridden garros. On really i guess you know. We talked about the fact that she had decided that she wasn't going to be doing the press conferences in our preview episode. But i don't think any of us envisage that it would lead to a withdraw rule and it's sent of debates are out into the atmosphere about you know the role of the press and mental health. And what we can do. The slams can do it. All the tennis governing bodies can do to help the players more Because we'll see us. August really struggling with mental health at the moment. She's know in a particularly good place is been a a real shock to the system has been a real shock to the tennis system. I think and i think this is going to be looked back. On as a landmark moment you know namely soccer's one of the biggest players in the school. Something like this happens. People are going to take note of it. We've already seen people taking note of in the you know in tennis in the tennis media Tennis players Former players journalists. And as well as everyone outside of tennis you know we. We've we spoke before the puck costs about the fact that your friends have been contacting us for like what's all sort of your viewpoint on it so it really is something that has struck a chord with lots of different people and i think when you look at this kind of story and kind of how. It unfolded really. There's been i think four kind of key moments particularly for me in terms of that statement asaka put out pre french open talking about talking about the fact that she wasn't gonna do media Gt's at the french open. We then had a sort of response from all four grand slams The know the coming days from her original announcement saying that's fine but effectively. They will kind of give her in and set the wisconsin. Rules are rules. And if you're going to be turning out to play my tournament you're going to have to essentially do media now. They did say that they had reached out to her in that statement but it was a collective thing between french open. Us open wimbledon and the australian open and then the bump show really kind of hit yesterday when again. She came out with another statement on on twitter to nounce the that she had withdrawn from roland. Garros which was all the more surprising because she paid a first round match and had one had looked pretty. Good and Yeah it just sort of the situation source of snowboard and a lot of people kind of saying that tennis didn't really handle itself in the best light and we've seen the the grand slams has come out with a completely opposite message offering support to a soccer and and being a much more feel less. I feel potentially kind of combative and arguably aggressive which i think some people have saw the original message as but seeing it now is a bit more supportive. This is about mental. Health is about opening up that compensation and the grand slams want to want to play a role in helping us all kabbah. Yeah i think maybe in that first statement that she put out in a prior to the tournament starting maybe the point she was trying to make didn't particularly come across as well as as we now understand from her scenario and the kind of anxiety and depression that should be she's been suffering and you know higher herrings. Rt dealing with the media. Which i think she's had throughout her whole career pov who she is. She's quite introverted and shy. It's a natural public speaker by any means which. I can compete any kind of undecided because i have a very Like versus myself. And it's i think. I think that maybe the team dropped that statement will management who was ultimately responsible for putting the out there. Maybe they could have made it clear which i know in her second statement. She kind of referred to an alluded to that. She could have made it clear but i think i. Yeah the slams. Obviously they try to reach out to her. I didn't know how how well they manage to do that. what the dialogue walls between us awkward not on the grand slams and the on the f. f. t. but i guess they were kind of going by the rule book you know there are rules and i wonder if they just thought. Oh if we if we make an exception for her other place starter you do the same. We're going to have like a big situation on our hands. Obviously we do have a situation hands. But i think in hindsight is probably is the best decision that she's withdrawn and say that she can take the time for herself. She needs to get help recover and kind of web three this but oh say for the governing bodies to kind of think well okay what can we. What can we put in place for players. Who really are very uncomfortable. Doing the kind of media requirements that the sport have and is there another sort of way through where they could kind of come to a balance where she d like a bit of media but not the same as before because it is quiet intense. Also and i'm sure there must be other players. He sympathised and say what rav a not go through. Eat as i experience off to every single match. They must be other things that they can do to engage with the playas but not.

Naomi Osaka beats Petra Kvitova to clinch Australian Open title
"Showed a lot of hard for a twenty one year old to to finish off the match the way she did. And to to really come back in the third set and claim the championship was remarkable and tougher pitcher Kavita as well. This was a match that I really had. No, he didn't want to see anybody lose coming back from the knife attack. That patriot has suffered in check in the Czech Republic in two thousand sixteen. She didn't think she was ever gonna play tennis again. And it was just an amazing match between champions. We got a know to a particular significance in Japan. Naomi? Osaka has become a national symbol there. She has a mixed racial background. That's japan. Her Haitian father, Leonard who we never see we hear of him. We know he exists. But he he never sits in her box. Because he is so nervous to watch the match to see his daughter play that he sort of Rome's the stadium. He's never on camera. But he's always with her. And it's a fantastic story. God blessed fantastic story considering that. This is one of the things that you look at it with tenants. They did at twenty years old eighteen years old people have been talking about her being a great player. Now, she's really backed it up, and it's also in this this tournament as well that Serena Williams had a five one lead against Klickovic in the quarter-finals to have a rematch with Asaka and Serena ended up losing that matchy injured her ankle in lost the next six games and lost the lost the match. That's the beauty of tennis. It's the reason why I love tennis. So much. It's the reason why I love baseball. You can't run out the clock in this sports. Got you gotta get that. You gotta you gotta win. The final point you have to get the final out. Otherwise things can happen. Let's turn a little bit of that football game. Just a week away. The Rams are back in L A again against the patriots with what seems like their annual innocent of the Super Bowl. A lot of people though, still aren't over that controversial no call a pass interference by officials in the NFC championship game between the Rams and the saints. And then also the officiating between in the patriots game with the the phantom roughing the passer call against Tom Brady in the chiefs patriots game. It's a really interesting thing. Skype because you want to look at football and say that the sport is obviously in trouble for all the problems that had has aesthetically. Of course, it has problems. You can't tell what
