"We have two of our all stars right here in front of us right now. Tell Jarrett and Steve Letarte here hanging out today. Busy show. Fellows, we got James Hinchcliffe, our buddy coming up here in about ten minutes. We'll talk about a little race in central Indiana. On 6 running at the Indianapolis 500 qualifying is this weekend. Here are some burden will join us in a bit and talk about his rookie season in the Cup Series so far. And I'm fired up for this conversation Chris Anderson will join us the driver of Greg digger. I have lots of questions. For president, I have lots of questions about how you can do the flip. I want to figure out how we can make that happen. And then finally, we'll chat with Noah Gregson. Cup Series all star race this weekend. No points on the line. There are real points on the line for the NASCAR Xfinity series. So we'll chat with Gregson and the tear that JR M is on right now. That's on Saturday. Of course we want to hear from you guys as well 8 four four NASCAR NBC, DJ, I want to pick up where we left off Monday and you guys were chatting about Kurt Busch. We just saw all the winners this year. He makes number 11 on the season and you say you think there's a legitimate path to not only 16 wins this year, maybe more than 16 winners. Tell us how and who could be, but first of all, tell you, thank you from Steve and I that you read that exactly the way that we typed it up. The way you typed it up right there. Yeah, yeah. But I do, I honestly believe, as I've looked and watched this year, and I know that it seems that things are changing a little bit. But drivers that we have seen run in my opinion, put themselves in a position and have run good enough at times, and I realized that the number of times keeps shrinking, but I have 7 drivers that I think more potential. 7. To get in there and get us to 16. I mean, I think all 7 of them would be a huge stretch. But I really believe at least three or four of these goods. And it doesn't even include Kevin Harvick. So that's the one that surprises me. You don't have Harvick on your list. I think that Kevin Harvick will be good, the longer we go, is he going to get good enough to win? I mean, he's good enough to win any race. But are they going to be able to put a full race together, giving the speed that he needs to do that? So I have 7, 7 drivers that I think potentially can win a race here. I think Steve and I both disagree. I have, I have 5 maybe. I have four on my list, but we got to get to the point when I hear DJ 7, but I want to get your thoughts on whether they'll be enough to make 16. Absolutely not. There will be two, maybe three make it in on points. And here's why. I think DJ's list of drivers that can win is accurate. Will they win? They won't. When you look at the playoff leaderboard, only two drivers have repeated. And that's Chastain and William Byron, no offense to either of those two, I don't think anybody would have had those two repeating early. I mean, look at the guys that have only won one. So Danny Hamlin, maybe won't, you know, it was an impressive win at Richmond, but he's having a hard time getting racist put together. But Kyle Larson, he could easily have two or three. I think Alex Bowman somehow shows up in every race that we never give him credit for. Joey Logano, Kyle Busch on dirt. So I believe that there are drivers that can win, but I think there's guys that are going to win again and there's one name nobody talks about and he's going to upset everything we're talking about right now, okay? AJ almond. Oh. He doesn't count. If he wins, he doesn't count. He's not on the playoffs. And with four road courses coming, it wouldn't shock me if he wins one or two. And to DJ's point, those will be one or two that get taken away from somebody on your list who needs that win. So I think when you add all that up, I think two or three seats on points. All right, who are the 7 DJ? We need to hear that. Well, I think when we looked at that right there, the first three that are outside of that 11 that are 12, 13th and 14th are Blaney, Truex Junior, and Christopher Bell. And they have all put themselves in and run well enough to get themselves in position to legitimately be winners. Now the rest are somewhat maybe, but Reddick. We saw that. Him get spun there at Bristol, but he's run well enough at other racetracks to get himself there. That still doesn't matter. You know, we talked about Daniel Hamrick in the Xfinity series forever and ever, but he was going to win at some point. And he eventually did. It was for a championship. But so I got Reddick. Ricky Stenhouse junior has been impressive here. And you've got enough racetracks. I mean, you talk about the road courses. We can't forget the last race is Daytona. But Stenhouse junior has run well enough at these others. You start putting yourself in the mix enough, you find yourself getting that right opportunity at the end of a race to make that happen. And that probably the two longer shots are a little bit or Bubba Wallace and Daniel Suarez. I think. So that's the 7 that I say have run well enough at times, can they do that in these last number of races to find a way to get a win? Yeah, and I'll add a name to the list and you're not even going to see them on the left to the inside of your screen because he's 31st down there employed. That's Brad Keselowski. Do I think he has a car to win most weeks? I don't, I think they're improving RFK has gone from 20 mid 20s to high teens to now we see him running inside the top 15, but you mentioned Daytona. That's really the big one at the end of this. I think I would not want to be anyone dependent on that last spot or dependent on points with Daytona. We've now seen it for a few years and I pick on the guys that go there and a man hope we have a good day. Well, you've had 25 weeks to not hope this had to turn out right. Because truthfully, it can go bad and the difference is it can go bad by somebody else is doing. So it's a jumbled up schedule. There's no doubt. I mean, between road courses and Atlanta, let's throw that in the mix as well. That might as well be considered super speedway at this point. Correct. You probably would guess this correctly,.

"About me, man. I'm already a day or two ahead of you. All right, I'm gonna teach everybody at 23 11. How important this is to the petty family. We're having a toast on Wednesday. MJ sent it down tequila for everybody. We're gonna shut the shop down. A half hour early. And I'm gonna teach everybody a house specialist 45 number is to the petty family, and you're gonna get that many more spirits pushing to make this car faster. Thank you, man. Thank you very much. Love you, dude. Great stuff, Kyle, thanks for joining us and Kurt. We really appreciate you calling it. It's always special to win a race, but to take the time and the money to join us to talk to Kyle to talk to the fans. It was great. It was a popular win. We all see why, man, we couldn't be happier for you. Now you have a few more weeks to get practiced up. Back to the playoffs, man. Back to the playoffs. You get another shot. We know you were there last year. You got another shot with a new team this year. Thank you guys. And yeah, I was telling Billy Scott, let's just keep everything the same. And he's like, no, we got to go get stage wins and tally up those points for the playoffs, but hey, it's great to have good problems. And again, with everybody at 23 11, thank you. Toyota, Monster Energy and Jordan brand. What a win. We're going to celebrate this one for a while, but let's get after it. Let's keep going in the playoffs. We're going to be ours. All right, man, congratulations. Appreciate it. We were talking about the background. How about our main Kurt Busch? He's at his crew chiefs garage. I like that. You get working on that quarter midget. So putting you to work already, pretty good stuff. It is, it was great to hear Kyle there. I read that article. I didn't know how the 45 transferred and who was called. It was an impressive article written by Dustin long about Danny calling Kyle and asking for the right to run that number. We know how special it was for Kyle. And I have no doubt he's celebrating and no doubt it was special for Kurt Busch to take that 45 victory lane. You know, I got to tell you, I got when Kyle came over and I got a little emotional, you know? When you compete against a guy, you don't know him that well, but since we got a chance to work with Kyle, I mean, I love that guy, and he is family has meant so much to the sport and for Kurt and that team to win on that week. I mean, that's incredible. And it's just a these are the moments that you realize you're all connected, right? This sport. You fight like hell. Fight each other and you will go at each other, but this sport is so connected and everybody really cares about you. Even if you don't think they do, and those two talking together, I'll be honest. It was pretty emotional, listen to him. It sure was. That's just amazing. And the petty family, they've been so great for the sport, but they've also had things taken away from them as a family. And what Kyle was talking about May the 12th and that was the day that it happened 22 years ago while Austin had a daughter born of just this past Thursday, only 12. And then Kirk turns around and wins this race. That gives me just thinking about this and I'll tell you what. You think about Richard Petty and the grand and the smile that he always has and how much cow is always smiling just like that right there. Adam might have been the one that had the most infectious smile of them all and what a great talent he was going to be just taken from us too soon, but just an amazing week. And I love to see things like this happen for me. Yeah, just a couple of weeks ago, the Kyle Petty charity ride raised money in Adam's name for the victory junk and gang camp. So a lot of great things going on in that area. But listen, we got a little bit of show left fans call in, talk to us. We'd love to hear your thoughts about Kansas Kurt Busch or another.

"And at age 23, Austin cindric has scored. Holy crap. Checkered flag in the air, Larson, the winner in his home state, the Golden State golden boy is headed back to rule off mortgage. Victory lane. Bowman at the bottom, he slides up in front of Larson. Larson with the crossover. He's out of time. Boom and the showman has one in Las Vegas and overtime. A day he will never forget all four final time checkered flag is out. For real win number one. William Byron will hang on and win and Atlanta Motor Speedway and dramatic fashion. Open digger gets into Alex Bowman. Ross Chastain is going to get his first NASCAR Cup Series win. We did it. It is all Denny Hamlin at the Richmond Raceway. The streak has been broken. Denny Hamlin sees the checkered flag. Joey looking in the inside, not close enough in four. What a drive for William Byron. He picks up the win tonight in the celebration design. Briscoe dives to the bottom of the racetrack side by side. They get loose. They spin. Now Tyler Reddick doesn't 360 sodas Briscoe. It's gonna go to the third place car. Kyle Busch will win this race. Steaming to the line, Ross Chastain will win the Geico 500. I told you it's like you just held straight on sale at three. It's the 14th career win for second generation star. The 9th different driver to win in 11 races this year. Logano all over the back end of Willie B drives in DB mace contact bar ends in the outside wall. "And I wouldn't be able to do any of this without him. And I'm glad that we worked together in the past this HR to know how strong this combination can be. So I'm just hopeful that we're just starting to scratch the surface. And we'll keep moving on up. So Kurt as DJ mentioned, right? You've won for four manufacturers 5 different race teams. You find your way to victory lane all the time, but it is the month of May. We are NBC and we're heading up there. I'm actually going up for Indy 500 qualifying this week. You were the last NASCAR star to go up there and give it a shot and I won't lie. I was cheering you on that day. It was an oppressive run inside the top ten. Give us a little insight and what our old buddy Jimmie Johnson's got a face as the 7 time chance starts as any 500. What kind of chance do you give him and what are gonna be his challenges up there at the brickyard open wheel style? Yeah, I'm so happy he's gonna run the 500. The pageantry, the show, the different feel of that racetrack in the month of May is completely different than the brickyard weekend in July or August when NASCAR goes there. So he'll know how to block all that out. He's a 7 time NASCAR champion. He has tons of IndyCar experience now. He's been on an oval and had his best finish in Texas recently. He's ready. He's ready to do it. He's confident and the team is going to guide him through what he needs to do at Indy. But he has years and years of experience at Andy, and that's what I use my foundation. All right, I'm going to go running IndyCar, but I know this track and I feel confident in what I'm doing. Johnson's going to be a step ahead of where I was. All right, I love it. This is a call in show, so I appreciate you joining us, but we got a fan on the phone, Chandler, you're on with Kurt Busch. Thanks, Steve. And Kurt, I hate to tell you this, but I'm a big fan of your brother, Kyle, but I'm also a fan of you, man. Congratulations at Kansas. So Kurt, you know, this year you have now, you know, this year has started off not the way you, Denny and public expected. You guys wrecked a lot in the past couple of weeks, but now you guys are finally winners this year. What are you guys hoping for the for the season later this year? Yeah, I feel top 5s early. I had four top tens. Things were going, but we were piecing those finishes together with straws. Now the Ross speed is starting to show up..

"Come back, we've got the winner. We got Kurt Busch can't wait to talk to him and see what he has to say, you know, we are just excited to have you all appreciate him coming on. And also after Kurt, we want you guys to call in. Be sure to join the show. Just hearing around the shot, the collaboration is just getting better and they're really honing in and getting their setups good. And it's exciting to see the hard work and how it pays off. One of the funnest things is having a front row seat to those final 25 laps. I mean, it was right there in front of me and I'm pushing because honestly, I really wanted a one to finish really bad. That was the funnest part of seeing that. And seeing it live and yes, I'm watching it and I'm just watching it. Go. And so it's just such a weird feeling. I can't help, but be emotional about it. And certainly there's been no win been no one that I've had that has equaled the emotions of this one. For sure. For sure. Well, that was owner Denny Hamlin after the big win for 23 11 and he was talking about this man. Kurt Busch driver of the 45 Kurt, first of all, thank you for joining us and congratulations. It was an impressive day of dominant day. Led over a hundred laps lost Leo pit road and then a veteran style methodically worked your way back a pair of tiles as you put it that you had to beat, but it was an impressive run congrats. Thank you. And Denny's right. It's special building this team up and having everybody jump on board from different organizations to come together here at 23 11 and it's like we're a group of rebels that were on this team or that were on that team. But it's so gratifying to be able to bring them to victory lane and for me to do my part for pit crew to do that. I mean, everybody adds to this and then how special is it to win with the Jordan brand car and that paint scheme. It's a huge foundation for our company. Well, card it was extremely impressive and DJ and I were as drivers. We were.

"A different line and get out of that dirty air, but they continually put Bubba Wallace in a bad spot. And then at the key moment, they put card in a position where he had to go get up on the wheel and make something happen. They're going to have to fix that. And I'm going to tell you, Steve, it's easy to say, fix it. It's a whole nother thing. Those people over that wall to the ones they believe are the best they have. They don't have a bitch of people that they think are better than that. That group right there. They got to look within themselves. They wouldn't be over pit wall if they're not talented. They just got to find a way to put the pieces together. All right, good news, bad news. We always talk about, oh, you got to get Joe Gibbs Racing support. You got Toyota in your back pocket. This is going to be great. You're going to be good. Now congratulations, you got what you're asked for. So now Joe Gibbs Racing and the pit department at Joe Gibbs Racing needs to put successful pit crews on 6 race cars. That's 30 starting players. 30, men and women that they've decided to go over the wall that are the best 30. That's very, very hard to do. Most teams have a secondary team to develop talent, right? So you look at organizations, RFK has a team down at JTG. You know, everyone has people in other teams to develop, especially with a single log. You can't develop it on Saturday. Xfinity is no good. 5 lug nuts, it's not going to help you. Now Joe gives racing is going to have to make those improvements. And I don't think it's just 23 11. Denny Hamlin's been vocal about his pit crew. Kyle Busch at times have been vocal about his pit crew. So your point, you are absolutely right. It has to improve if they want to continue this trend. But it has to approve across 6 cars. That is very you hope that maybe you can move internally, maybe it's not a teamwork thing, but I'm going to tell you, you know, as a guy who used to try to manage that, you know, I wouldn't want to manage 30 athletes. I mean, that is a lot of people, you're going to have to try to figure out. So, you know, what's interesting is that that's a great point. We have shorter practices than we've ever had. We have guys own cup teams are not getting reps on Saturday. And it's a completely different pit stop than before. Yes. And so how do you, I don't, you can not replicate cars coming down pit road. You can not replicate that pressure. And not being able to do it on a Saturday, that is a great point. And that is something they're going to have to find a way to overhand overcome. And I'm just going to say one other thing that factors in as we see some teams knock off these really incredibly fast stops, then they start noticing those numbers. Oh, when are we going to do that? So we are trying harder to be faster and we know a lot of times as a driver too. You go faster by not trying quite as hard and so I think that that factors in and when you start doing that, then you start making more mistakes. And listen, let me say this. The reason I bring up Joe Gibbs Racing is because they're also not developing talent mid pack. But it's easy to have good at mad pit stop front of 15 because nobody sees 50. But I'm telling you, when you come down one, two, and you're on that split screen. Everybody's gonna know when you lost falls. Well, when we come back, we've got the winner. We got Kurt Busch can't wait to talk to him and see what he has to say, you know, we are just excited to have you all appreciate him coming on. And also after Kurt, we want you guys to call in. Be sure to join the show. Just hearing around the shot, the collaboration is just getting better and they're really honing.

"Going to be mister almond dinger because that's good. Austin cindric has moved on. There's other ones, Justin Haley, has moved, I think, when I look at this, ty Gibbs is going to be fast and you definitely don't want to count him out. But AJ Armenian the first name, not highlighted in yellow experience. Tell somebody consistently beta. He's my pick. Bill Grayson. Oh, don't take you down. No. Good road racer, tons of confidence. I'm thankful we're going to coda and the forecast is better. I think we were down there. We get a shot this year. Yeah, you know, it was kind of like, I think the fans kind of got messed up. It was just, it was no one's fault, but it's like, you know, races in The Rain is good for me when it's a race I've been to ten times, but I want to see you. Freshly paved in some sections of Kodak. Beautiful. Beautiful facility. I'm going to go with our guy just because I've watched him run road America and some of those places and he passes people where there's no pavement. So I'm going to go with our guy. But you know, that's the beauty of that race on Saturday is all three of those could win. Josh, exactly. He's a road course racer. That series. I thought I was worried when Custer and Briscoe. And all these people left. Yeah, man. Yeah, it's great. It is great. Yeah. He just won. We can't give him too much. Maybe Anthony, Anthony, did you pick tigers? What's your question, Anthony? No, I didn't take to gives. But yeah, it's great to be back first time in two years. And yeah, I'm happy. So yeah, my biggest surprise so far after 5 races, which is really my question, I think the biggest surprise is more or less the biggest shock and that's Denny Hamlin did as well. I mean, come on, ty is 26th in points. Last year at the time, he had four top 5s and one 11th place finish and he let the points by 39 markers and now all of a sudden a year later he's way deeper than the points 26 average in the 25th place finish. 92 points back. He struggling just as bad this year as he was in the first year of the gen 6 car. And it's the first year of the next gen. So at some point, this is 11 team is really going to have to turn around. It may be the first 5 races. Before I can tell you, it can make a big difference come on this regardless. And also huge shout out to the 24 car, 96 wins, only four more to a hundred. Yeah. Yeah no. So let me build off what are you saying there? This is two years that we're talking about Denny Hamlin. I mean, if we go back to the same last year, let me say last year in the playoffs, but this is two years. I mean, it's a dry spell in the regular season without a doubt. And I think that's, I don't want to say there's a concern because Denny's admitted. I don't think we're going to talk about anything. Danny hasn't already said. But I think what shocks me more about the 11s performance is the majority of the issues have been driver induced, whether it's speeding, a miss shift, this push on Larsen. I don't think any of them are egregious. The shift was a bit agree just, but they're all mistakes. And humans make mistakes at times, I think we forget these level of athletes are human. But two years ago, I said, man, he's the strength of this team. Like he's doing some very methodical, very mental, strong type racing. You know, he kind of out race people mentally. And this year, he's too talented to kind of make these mistakes and say it's okay because he's at this level of being a race car driver. And the worst thing for him could be start thinking about, I've got to quit making mistakes. And when I say that.

"About the point battle to get into the playoffs the last several years. It's been tight. Can Denny Hamlin can cerebral guys that have had trouble early in New York, Christopher Bell. Can they earn enough points? Yeah. To get themselves in. Look, look, look where they are. Look at, look at Christopher Bell. Let's look at Denny Hamlin. Can they earn enough points? To race themselves in a point position. They have dug themselves in a potential must win situation. I know that sounds crazy. This early in the year, but no. But look how well track house is running? Any of those two guys got into practice? Chastain. I can make a list of this. Well, think of RCR a year ago. They felt good in Eric all my older one in the summer, next thing you know, they have a car out and it's a scramble and because we all thought me included when I say we I'm gonna put myself in the bucket. I didn't see any more new winners. Eric O'Malley reminded us that people can't win on any weekend. He wanted a dominant fashion. So I think what we love about the sport is there's only 16 seats. No matter how good your resume, no matter what you've done in the past, there's seats in the playoffs. So everyone that gets filled up, you know, with someone who we don't expect, we'll see. But hey, listen, it wouldn't be NASCAR motor mouse if we didn't have our first caller of the year. And of course, NASCAR, you're in your pole position. Hey guys, it's good to be great back on the show, but I want to get to the biggest news that we haven't talked about. Newman's not running cop, but that doesn't mean that's called ain't gonna have a dog in the fight. So if my new driver unveil, he's got some ties with Ryan Newman there is the number 12 I'm sticking with Ryan Ryan Blaney is my new driver, y'all. So we'll get that. That's a good pick. That's good. That's good. You only had to change part of your tattoo. Exactly. I think it did. I think the season has been everything that we talked about last year. They're right in the notebook on these cars. We're going to see some different things. But the one thing I.

"Did not have a lot of results. He put an impressive show on this year winning it Phoenix, and then William Byron at Atlanta. So a wave of 5 drivers have won all different. I think surprising to me is my crystal ball had Cedric and Briscoe racing to make the playoffs on points, maybe around the middle of the summer. Now they've gobbled up to spots, I mean, what do you make of the playoff field as it currently sits? I mean, should veterans start to be concerned? Well, I tell you what I like. I like the mix of organizations that we've seen run up front. I will say that. I do like that mix of organizations. And you look at these, you look at these four or 5 winners. I'm not sure concern is an issue because I expect and we were talking about before. Denny Hamlin, you look at Denny Hamlin, you look at Kurt Busch, you look at Kevin Harvick. You I think these guys can win races. Okay, I really do. I just think they're going to win races. So points are not an issue for them moving forward. But I do believe, and we were talking about before. If you're getting Hamlin and you're 28th or 29th in points and if it continues like this year is gone, then there's got to be a little concern. Even 5 races into the season. Maybe not panic, but the little concern to say, when's this ship going to get righted and when we're going to head in the right direction. But listen, it's cup racing. The guys that win, the cream, and the words of Jimmy Spencer, the cream rises to the cream. That's it. It's going to get back to the top at some point down. Yes, it will, but remember, we sat here last year for 20 some weeks saying, well, then he's going to win. Kevin's going to win. That's true. That's true. And it took him forever. Kevin never did, Denny ended up getting some wins, but I'm nervous. If I'm an experienced guy, I'm sitting here looking and there's two guys all ready to one races that did not make the playoffs last year. All right? You think about the point battle to get into the playoffs the last several years. It's been tight. Can Denny Hamlin can cerebral guys that.

"Green flag pit stops. Thank goodness, because I don't know how that was going to work. So right from the start, you knew this was going to be a different weekend. You knew it was going to be competitive. You knew it was going to be action packed, and it certainly didn't disappoint in any of those. Yeah. Hey, listen, I grew up on the old racetrack. The first one. And then raced on the second configuration. Thank God I aged out and didn't have to run this one. Listen, William Barron got out in the sweat. 24 years old and said the most intense racial ever run. He just couldn't focus anymore. The concentration it took to lead this pack in the running this pack. I talked to a couple spotters and they said the most mentally taxing thing they've ever had to do. And I was trying to understand and they said, just what you said. Daytona and Talladega, the size, while the car speed is perhaps higher. The size makes everything a little slower. It's down there, it was just, it was nonstop. There was nowhere to go. And the width of the track. While it is wide enough for three cars because we at time saw three cars, it wasn't comfortably wide after three cars. I think some of that has to do with the transitions, right? You kind of get in the straightaway and you lose track of what a lane is because it's so wide, you see right here, that's the back stretch, three cars comfortable when you go down to the corner. Not to mention, I think they needed a little more than a car with to keep them. But I want to ask, I want to ask Jeff this too, because I thought about this while I was watching this. This is technically it's wider than Daytona, okay? Technically, it's a wider corner. But you've driven it Andy. You've driven an Indy. That first corner looks like it's about as wide as this desk. When you get to the end. And I think that's, I think that's a lot of what these guys saw. You talk about the speed. I think visually, optically, it just seemed a lot narrower, especially getting off into turn one and getting off in the turn. Because you didn't have that expansive straight away like you do at Daytona. Yeah, and it's the same width. It is the same width as Charlotte. Yeah. From the wall to the yellow line on the bottom of the racetrack of the white and red line. It's the same width as Charlotte. You wouldn't look bank it by looking at it. We've never seen this kind of racing before. That's the deal. Yeah. With all star race of Texas last year with an engine package the last couple of years on my own halves, we saw a version of this, but we've never seen this on a new pay racetrack trying to pull some speeds. I can only imagine how fast he would run unrestricted. I mean, it would have been nuts with the added banking. I'm able to then crazy. So to remember, that's why the speed got pulled out of it, right? This B got pulled out of it because it would have been ridiculous. So that was the beginning of it all. And then instead of saying, hey, it lists don't really understand. We're going to have let's just make it so we know they're going to be around wide open and have this kind of race. And they had it. I mean, you never know, Steve. I mean, you know, the smartest people in the world can get together and say, here's what we're going to do. We're going to put this package together and it's going to have this result. That doesn't mean it's going to work. True. But without a doubt, if that was the goal for this weekend, they a 100% met that goal. Yeah, the intensity was high. We're going to get to talk to a driver that was in the field Kurt Busch is supposed to be joining us here around ten or 15 more minutes. So get your phone call in for Kurt Busch in the second segment, phone number is on the screen. The let's talk about the winner. William Byron, let's start the year, right? We have Austin Cedric, a rookie wins the Daytona 500, then Larson, probably the most surprising Larson win only because he didn't dominate. No one surprised he won. Bowman come from nowhere Bowman, the guy continues to play Kyle Busch with surprise at that one. He was gone. And then we see Briscoe. We all do Briscoe was a good race car driver for what we saw on Saturdays, but his trip to Sundays have been difficult. He has self admittedly last year, he did not have a lot of results. He put an impressive show on this year winning it Phoenix, and then William Byron at Atlanta. So a wave of 5 drivers have.

"Digest from just the NASCAR weekend in Atlanta. Reconfigure Atlanta, but how about the weekend overall? We just show the highlights. I mean, from bikes on pavement to bikes on dirt, open wheel, sports cars, IndyCar. We had it all. I'm speechless. It was way too much. For March, it was a great weekend and the weather cooperated everywhere they were at. So listen, I like the bikes on asphalt. I'm a bike on asphalt. Bike on asphalt in The Rain. You're tougher than I am. Yes. A tone of competitor to this too, not just cool events. They were all really competitive, close fall. Last lap passes, a little bit of everything throughout the whole weekend. So we're kicking off our year here on NASCAR America motor miles. As were you want to remember, this is a fan show. We need your calls. We need your questions. We want your opinions to see the number right there. 8 four four NASCAR NBC call in and give us your thoughts. So we have a whole start of a season of digest, but let's start at Atlanta reconfigured Atlanta Jeff. You were in person. So I'm going to come with you first. It looked crazy on TV. How about in person? Well, after the first practice on Saturday, I thought they should have called it and said, hey, it's a 500 K. The media talk was how in the world are you going to do this for 500 miles? It's a super speed where Daytona and Talladega, but shoved into a mile and a half race track. And so when they come by you, they look like they're running 400 mph. And there was nowhere to go. One of the things we didn't see happen was green flag pit stops. And then raced on the second.
William Byron wins wild NASCAR race at remodeled Atlanta
"The newly redesigned high banks of Atlanta motor speedway through NASCAR drivers a curve ball is the race turned into a fight for survival to trying to capture the checkered flag the winner William Baron who is out front as multiple car spun across the start finish line behind him it's just a crazy exhilarating feeling when you win a you know kind of a superspeedway style race because you're constantly working and you know it's never really guarantee there were twenty six race cars involved in at least one crash over the five hundred mile race but there was also a record number of leaders at twenty and more green flag passes in the field in the previous six Atlanta races combined following burned to the line was rostra stain who picked up his second straight runner up finish Kurt Busch was third jury Jordan Hampton Georgia

"One. Maybe upset is ryan blaney. You can't overlook confidence and a little bit of momentum. And i think that ryan blame is going to be. He's gotta the chase elliott from last year blinded. That person that i put in there. That could possibly upset everything dj. I really need some help. Because when i made my championship for predictions you'll never believe it unknowingly. I picked the same for drivers. Is kyle petty. And i think that it's a sign of something in your life. I'm not quite sure. But that's the same exact for dry. This kyle helped me. Dj knows they'll knows if you work with me long enough. I'll bring you down to my level. Okay i will bring you down to my level. i had the same rationale. You know though. I like what i like. How the tracks layout for true x. Like certainly kyle larson i like denny hamlin and certainly like joey logano as well and i just think that could be championship for. It is great minds. Think alike more that i am going to say. And they'll nailed it early when he started talking about and we talk about this group. It is so hard to pick. It is so hard because there are things as we look at alex. Moment as we look at william byron consistency that he's had you look at at brad keselowski. He's just as lava flip a switch and turn his whole year around and kurt busch. He's just wanna finish on a high note there so there's so many of these guys. It's it's wild card. This is a while playoff time championship championship championship. Is martin tricks. Wow that's it dj. Who got. I'm going to go with the favorite collars and what a season and i just think. It's his time to get that first championship. I wonder if collar arson like phoenix could be a little kryptonite carson. I don't know. Maybe not. But i'm gonna go with joy llegado because i thought they were so good. What have you seen this. An only white cloth as kryptonite for cow. Larson okay. that's that's the and there is no kryptonite collars. I was gonna ask. Is there any weakness in their game. I don't think they are. Why caused kryptonite for parker cling. Okay got you got. You got them confused there. You gotta confused lugano anyway. We'll see gas from darlington this weekend. Look forward to senior this weekend for the southern five hundred on sunday..

"I though i wanted to get to nascar who has called ends on the pole position. There's always because kyle has a gift look at this now. This is what carl gave me. That's nast pearls shirt. Everyone yes do the country there. It is a country. That's carl how you doing. And we all love you in michigan. By the way there's a picture of that girl looks like everyone at all nascar gave me. I gave myself gave nate ryan. Got a t shirt like this. So we're we're exclusive. I just got a picture. We're an exclusive group. We're an exclusive group. Banking carl man. Thank you man. I'm doing your mom thank you how are you doing. What's going on with telling you today. Good man i just want to say. I appreciate you guys. I know how busy on what you guys and nbc do for me means the world to me. And i really appreciate you guys. You guys mean a lot. We talk about this every year. The divers it ain't in the play offs sponsorship some fighting for jobs. Some doing this supposedly. There's an etiquette. How do these guys drive when they have so much on the line as well to these to these twelve drivers. Because i think that's something that's very key and all this two guys that are going for jobs and stuff like that do with is how they should drive against the playoff drivers grapevine nascar and different from other sports tile. Everybody's stolen the playing. Everybody's still out there. But here's the thing. I think the the we're gonna darlington we're going to unveil set it. There's no place to hide. You can't get out of the way man. It's it's tough going to bristol. You can't get out of the way it's tough. I think these these. I the first two or three races the next two or three races after that. I think everybody just races like they always race. I don't care whether you're in the playoffs. And i'm not if i'm and i'll go to carl's to carl's man if i'm ryan newman. I'm still trying to win races. Dude i don't care if you're in the playoffs i don't didn't make a difference to me. I'm still trying to win races as we get to. Those final eight as we get to that final race. And there's just four guys the etiquette and sportsmanship changes a little bit. I think i give you a break. I'll let you in line. I let you do certain things that i wouldn't let you do. Normally but as we go through these first few races. I think it's still every man for himself because as carl said these people have sponsor commitments teen commitments. There's still trying to win a race this year. Yeah and i think most of the playoff drivers if not each and every one of them understand that these there are other drivers out there. That's way this sport is and there's a lot for them to to gain in these last ten races against some or are auditioning spill to try to get a ride for next year and they have sponsorships that they're trying to sell so that you understand that you hope that at a playoff driver that they're respectful of what you're doing and i think that the rest of the field is that but they also understand they have to rice hard and it is racing is a competition and each race every weekend. Is something a little bit different. So you do what you have to do and I think that if the playoff drivers were to ask them something it was be like. Don't put us in a terrible spot to where is house both of us something. Yeah good point no doubt about where the drivers in the clouds this year. Kurt busch and he joins us here on motormouth. Now kurt good to see congratulations on the new deal. Congratulations on the playoffs. As well as we look at the playoff leaderboard right now. But i know the new deal is has fired up as well and i remember talking to you when the cd oh i came about curt and you said that really gave you. Some fresh energy is a kind of the same thing once again. Fresh new energy with twenty three eleven racing and the new next year one hundred percent. You know and it's nice with the timing to get it all wrapped up and try to go into these playoffs with one hundred percent. Focus these next ten weeks with chip ganassi racing and finishing strong as we can as a group. Lotta of guys still trying to find a job. Find a spot for next year for me. All that settled and trying to be the leader of this group and come out strong and have the best first round that we can at At what i would say. I agree with you guys this. Those first is no joke with darlington richmond and bristow no place to hide. You gotta be fast and listen. I i wanna get to this year. But we'll get to that in a minute. I'm gonna go back to two next year just for a minute because it is. It is big news. This is kurt busch and a new situation. You're building another team. You've gone the different teams in the past and and help them organize and help this then. Bill this team has one year under them their belt. You're also going in there as a driver. Coach mentor leader for bubba wallace and for for their team and for their organization does that put added pressure on you. Because now i'm asking you not only kurt busch to drive a race car and win racist for me. I'm asking you to help me build an organization. Yeah i'm the gratitude and the appreciation that i have for this opportunity. It all really started.
Blaney Takes Lead on Final Restart, Holds on to Win Michigan
"Ryan Blaney dove low on the final lap as William Byrne tried to block high and it paid off with Blaney making the trip to victory lane at Michigan international speedway I can't wait for the day I go out and win by ten seconds that be great it would be a stressful as all the wind as the winds of we've gotten you know so far in my career it was a bold strategy move because there wasn't as much momentum or grip on the bottom of the track and barn plans to make a sling shot move to retake the lead going to the checkered flag and all smiles when he said he was happy to get his first multi win season as Bayern recounted the epic battle thanks to finish second but feel like we you know had a really good car to to go to battle with colors and finished third with Kurt Busch and Denny Hamlin rounding out the top five respectively I'm Jerry Jordan

"In the sport by the fans as is back yes and last year was no rates for you know such bomber. It kind of was yeah. It's still bummer. Now to think about it. Yeah now all depressed. I'm really bummed but wait a minute. We shouldn't be because it's back this weekend. Yes so now. I'm rian bummed is that a new word is now. We are on bummed here at the final weekly. I've just been de bummed. That doesn't sound good now in this particular segment. Naturally we usually recap race but there weren't any nascar cup series races or xfinity series races or truck series races but we do have some other stuff them adds good least. Let's have other stuff like this. For instance kyle. Larson is somehow fifty thousand dollars richer. That does happen when you Partake in other racing activities over the break and dwell and said other raising activities. So that's cool. Kyle larson obviously Won the war out. Late model series prairie dirt. Did i misspell that. No that was me. Okay good the prairie dirk classic a fairbury speedway he started the one hundred lap feature in seventh antics lead by lap. Thirty never gave anyone else a chance after that as he just breezed away although He did have to hold off. Bobby pearson the closing laps Who kind of got close to throughout the lap traffic they were fighting but again Larsen one by one point two five one seconds and took the prestigious dirt win and this comes a couple of weeks after he scored the winner in the easy enough for me to say scored the winner in the thirty seventh world of outlaws kings. Roy l. door which happened after the thirty eighth king's royal eldora. So figure that one out. Yeah but yeah. So that's cool so That's a lot of awesome dirt. Success also been having a career year in the nascar cup series this season. We've always been documenting all season long. Twenty twenty one has first season at hendrick. Motorsports four wins there. And he's just he's winning everything he gets on now if you're one of these other guys in the field and you know your bread and butter. This is how you make a living and you're not a big time. Fancy pants cup series driver who was a millionaire d. Look kyle larson ago. You know you take food on the table buddy. Well i think he thinks that certain extent but at the same time i think some of these purses obviously worry about laws and their marquee events are gonna bring the big paycheck regardless but a lot of these other series. He's been competing and I think he brings a larger purse with him. Just by being there because it brings the fans out to the track. So i think a lot. Those series are happy. He shows up. I'm sure these world of outlaw guys like come on dude and if you're going to be in our series of let's get back to the wing stuff's leave us late model guys alone so yeah so he becomes the first guy to ever win. World outlaw winged sprint car race and a world of outlaw late model race by doing this so he's the first guy to win a race and bo series tie. Gibbs does nothing but win in the arc of menard series. This time has seventh of the season. This one coming at winchester speedway. It was the calypso lemonade. Two hundred featured tons of heart racing and tie had the battle back after contact with a ten car early on in this race causing noticeable damage to his eighteen machine. And your top five. Looks like this tie. Gibbs was the winner. Greg van alst too many consonants in a row body Corey haim thad. Moffitt and taylor gray rounds out the top five and so. This is a pretty controversial race for the win tie. Gibbs spun is championship contender He's battling with for the championship. In corey haim for the lead late in the race. And then taylor gray who you mentioned finish fifth. He's totally just wiped out Daniel die During this race as well caused died actually have a minor concussion and whiplash injuries from the crash So that was pretty wild to now. Is this the same corey haim. That was an actor in the eighties. I don't think it would be okay. Just checking you never know. I didn't know if you're being serious. I thought you're joking. When am i ever serious. That's a good point so you you weren't being serious. No of course. Not you still sound like you're being serious toward the end of that. Well see. that's how the comedy is is. funnier true. So corey haim his actually born in two thousand and two so definitely not the eighties actor from marysville georgia though. So is that where the other corey himes from by any chance. No idea this could be a sentence. Could be corey haim junior while then why the i mean juniors usually do pretty good he. They should add to his name. William byron's of william byron junior. Did you but does dad race. No okay not that aware of at least well. I mean if if william did it through video games. The chances are good that his dad. You know wasn't anyway. You got some josh barry stuff. Yeah josh barry was also active. This week he beats mason d s. Who's actually run some extending series stuff. The last couple of years for the throwback to seventy six model event at the track hickory speedway that is josh was driving the number eight junior motorsports injury and took a backward victory lap after the win. A little throw back from You know the past cup champion. Alain quickey berries twenty first career victory in the cars late model tour as one. Both this starts this season so far in that series. I think they're probably open. He sticks around in the nascar ranks and leaves them alone. Wow yeah because he's pretty pretty electric when he gets in that series very cool. Let's jump down to a longtime friend of the show and.

"Win about a jeff you talk about running the off of it before. I think the things that i saw from larson yesterday were that he could carry that speed. That you're talking an it you need not to get past or to overtake someone and not hurt. The car and hurt the tires is mud so a lot. Different road racer. I saw in colorado arson yesterday. That was one of the best performances because the big white honest. I think myself. Clint boyer and jeff gordon. On the telecast yesterday and maybe some others wondered what their strategy was whenever they were pitting staying out at different times than everybody else. And i guess they just they had the. Ma'am the car to get it done. Did make any difference. You're just gonna keep the best that they could and that is a lot of fun as a driver and you know when you have back to that horsepower. Thing someone speaking from experience of having more horsepower than others and being able to take advantage you can drive race cars a lot differently whenever you have that. I had that robert gates racing for a long time and a wonderful feeling to know that you have that in the bank and it allows you not to abuse your race car lot. And i think that we're seeing larson saying how hard is it the sweet stages and go get the win at a road course like what are. What are the challenges. The winning those stage points. Along the way i just mentioned in the fact that you can have all these different strategies playing out on a road course and still win all the stages and the race. That's a rare thing because normally thanks get so mixed up there not only that but when you go back and you look at hendrick motorsports i know. William byron had gotten a wreck not.
Martinsville Cup Recap

Kansas Speedway Starting Lineup: October 2020 (NASCAR Cup Series)
"Series rat of eight kicks off this weekend at Kansas despite other media members thinking it's more and other weird stuff. These are the drivers that are going to battle it out for four spots over the next three races Kurt Busch Alex, Bowman Martin tricks junior joey logano chase Elliott Brad Keselowski Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick bloom that is a star studded pack of drivers there for sure. So eight races will be pared down to four for Phoenix. which is going to be the round of four, which is only one race I guess but I mean look at look at that lineup, you've got one, two, three, four, five champions. You've got the guy who's the perennial second place Cinderella story that never gets it done at any Hamlin the most popular driver and Chase Elliott, and then Alex Bowman as well. The future forty-eight drivers. That's pretty cool and we've got a great mix of manufacturers. Yeah. Yeah. No joke I mean we've got a pretty good representation of everything here. We got to Chevy's two toyotas. Fords right that were at. I see in three three chevys. Sorry. Three Chevy Chevy three forwards and two Toyotas. That's pretty good. especially when you consider how few Toyotas are in the field. That's that's par for the course you're only gonNA get two of them in there but that's that's a pretty impressive field of drivers for this. Finally, all right Kansas speedway opened in two thousand and one it's bad fast on the list of top ten fastest tracks, which is a weird list. Drivers, of course, have to dodge rows and rows of corn and wheat growing right there on the racetrack in between the workers and the cracks. would. That might not be true.

NASCAR reveals changes for short tracks
"There's a new short-track package in use this weekend. And for more on that here's them. Rn's Kyle rigging while a lot of attention this week at Phoenix. We'll be focused on the championship race. Being moved there and what teams can learn from this race. That will apply later this year. There's another change at Phoenix. A new short-track package debut in for the first time in twenty twenty Stewart Haas racing. Eric Merola is up for trying. Anything that will help. Make the short track racing better. I think it could make a lot of difference. I think it certainly could make the racing. Better I I. I feel like Nascar really achieved a pretty good package for the intermediates to where it's a lot more racy the car. The car's are closer together the competitions tighter and so now on the short-track count lost that. We had that with the two thousand eighteen package where the races were awesome. And we were you know. We're racing side by side and passing the lead and all that and then as we got more downforce The cars were more gripped up to the race track and and then it was a little bit more challenging to pass this year so I feel like the marriage of the two. Now we're having the high downforce high drag on the intermediates but then the low downforce on the short tracks is really going to be good For our season and for those short track races teammate. Kevin Harvick echoes those feelings and says this could help S. HR dramatically whether the tires changed a little bit since two thousand eighteen Very similar to what we had in two thousand eighteen. That was a great year for us at Stewart racing. And and you know for US. We have a different car even been. Finley had in two thousand eighteen with with the Mustang now. So you know there are everybody's got differences chevrolets got a new car Toyota's probably the only one that got that. Got The same car but you know there are enough changes. That's going to be different but I think with the lower downforce obviously with higher downforce. I don't I think it's pretty common knowledge at this point that everybody knew we needed a change on the short tracks for us. That's a good thing because I felt like short track program in our road for stuff was probably the report of what we had last year. So you know I think as as we go forward You know I think there's a lot of things that point to a lot of bright spots for us is that could be positive but like you say you never know until you get into it. But I think it's GonNa it's definitely going to create better racing. What we had last year. T. May in rookie. Contender sole customer is hoping the package makes the cars closer to what the extremity cars were like. Yeah me I'm looking forward to the short tracks. The changes that they made probably for the aero side of it is GonNa help the racing a lot from what it seems like from last year but at the same time. I mean it's still going to be a little bit new to me but It'll be closer to what the extremely cars were last year. So I think I'm really looking forward to that and seem you know what the short-track package is going to be like. I think it's it is something that could probably depth a little bit better to sentence probably gone meal. The more simple Kurt Busch breaks down. Why getting the racing right at short tracks is such a big deal. The easiest way for fans to digest it as at at the short tracks where we have less speed have hardly any downforce so the slower the track the more we're going to be sliding around the faster the track the more the cars are going to stick other than Daytona Talladega. That's different RESTRICTOR PLATE. Rules there so just think of it size of track the smaller the more they're going to be slip sliding around. Just it's GONNA keep us jumping around a lot and I love to see the same rule package work at all tracks but it just won't put on good show that we need to have the side by side is if the short-track package produces the desired effect. Phoenix race. Fan should be in for a treat. Come Sunday
