"Is men that just won't you. They don't put themselves in that casual slot. Kumble way you can say what you're looking for Because they don't want to sleep with someone his potentially sleeping with of the people side what they do is they say they want a relationship and then they find somebody. That's been out relationship for a long time. Will somebody With children or something like thatt's because they see as that person isn't going to be sleeping around with anybody else And yeah yes. So they were than they do everything like that so they can have the casual and then see you later. Kind of thing Seems to be very much like that. That's that's that seems to be one of the things that are happening at the moment where people all saying. They won't show when when they don't and again it's people people have a massive effect on over people and when this happens to somebody can go two ways when they get used for casual they can either be very resentful of it and basically turn into somebody that's Now i'm gonna put my walls up. "It's like when he and madonna do has sex. It's like they're throwing each other against walls ripping each other's clothes off behaving the way under sex person. Thinks crazy sex. Is you know if feels very kind of made. Up is giving gone with the winds. It's interesting the men in these movies. Remind me of another movie. I watched recently carnal knowledge from the seventies. The jack nicholson character. Eventually he just becomes this. Just super chauvinistic creep dismissive of all women he puts together a slide show of. He doesn't call them cock. Tease ball. busters is what and eventually in the final scene he has like a prostitute played by rita. Moreno service him while calling him. Basically the greatest and he'd becomes this just grotesque character obsessed with ego validation but really the male characters and all these movies are basically that some version of that and but they're also the hero of the movie. Is it good colonel. At the time. Roger ebert called mike nichols's best film crazy thing to say but it is a great because like there's there's lots of great conversations in the movie and i think mike nichols. He's sort of the master of that right people just sitting in a room and hashing it out and there's strong emotions. But they feel relatable ultimately and margaret fabulous for the couple of dramatic scene. She has but anyway he had never seen cruel intentions before. How did this go okay. Here's my problem with this. Even though i loved it i loved it. I felt silver and rejuvenated. I haven't seen that film like this. I think that again with us. Trying to redefine what men look like in media so ryan philip as a young man by the name of sebastian who does not say a single thing without an ulterior motive he is constantly trying to manipulate reese witherspoon character in net into loving him. He's manipulating his step sister. Who is also manipulating him with the strange sexual stepsister. Stepbrothers sexual. It's odd. it's very odd and the majority of the sexually ten scenes in that movie are between sarah michelle gellar and ryan philipe. And that threw me for her. I wanna fuck. Oh i i will say the same thing that i said last time again when we did this i understand why gays love quotable. I get it now. I get these movies. I'm gonna try to integrate them into my real life. I will also say this movie feels like a prototype to gossip girl. I don't know if you guys understand. I mean it is a rich new york kids and there's sexcapades that they shouldn't be having because they're far too young should be focusing on college. The sarah michelle gellar and ryan. Philip brothers sisters sort of weird report was giving me chuck and blair and it was difficult to separate that as i was watching it. Also what i really loved about. This film was reese and ryan had this strange chemistry to me one. That felt too good to accurate. Then they get married after this film. Yes but so. I thought that i was like oh. They met onset. They probably fell in love. It just logically makes sense method sexy and it's inevitable but then come to find out that ryan had been cast this role of sebastian and he brought reese his girlfriend at the time to a dinner with the director roger kumble and he was insistent that she had to play a net and this was prior to it was just. She had to convince her to do it. And i thought that was a really cool. Little fun fact about cruel intentions are white. Women get roles just existing popping up when you talk about how everything he says is an alterior motive. I think that's also kind of signature component of these movies whereas there's no normal socializing going on. I mean nothing resembles to functional people in real life. Everything is wrapped up in a certain twisted nece in a certain nihilism in wanting just the basis things from each other. Whether it's validation or you know It based compulsions things like that so there's necessarily a bit of murkiness end real. I mean grossness that you can jump into. But also what's grouse sexist not romantic. You know it's sort of like. There's these manipulations frank discussion of like we do this. We're gonna have sex so like this etc but there's nothing sexy about it. It's just sort of like a transaction. Your or it's a weird teaching moment. I think i didn't realize this. But i'd watch another teen movie when i was much younger and there was a very disturbing scene of an older woman kissing a girl character and there was a string of spit that went on and you know the time i thought it was just a front facing normal movie and realizing now that it was a satirical movie using a scene from cruel intentions were player and sarah michelle gellar because each other. And there's this like infamous string. Yeah yeah and that story line is just a perverted in. Its way too. And i think what i really liked about. This film was that it answered to the really like gross monkey thoughts that i had to like. Oh i don't like that. That girl is dating my ex-boyfriend. I'm going to hurt her stuff. Then you the things that you would never act on but sarah michelle geller. Character does a whole plot a whole revenge plot against this this young girl while she's potest to she wins salma blitzer come up in the end and also shout out some blair for being twenty seven at the time and playing like a seventeen year old. That is the definitive mtv movie award for. Best kiss basket and yeah which by the way i mean. I haven't fully investigated that award. But there are some problematic moments in the awards history. Jeremy irons dominique. Swain renominated for lolita guys gross. Yeah that thing. But then also sarah michelle to like..

Two that i highly recommend if it gets into more details yeah i was working on that The second season for the last couple of months it is fantastic You should go check it out as soon as you can all right. Let's get to the news. The president gave a press conference on sunday where he talked about the thirty seven thousand americans and afghans. The us military has now evacuated since the taliban took control of afghanistan. Last week he also said the military is quote executing a plan to bring thousands of other stranded americans to the airport and he promised that all the evacuated afghan refugees will be given a home in the united states. Here's a clip. let me be clear. The evacuation of thousands of people from kumble is going to be hard painful. No matter when it started when we began would have been true if we had started a month ago or a month from now there is no way to evacuate this many people without pain and loss. Oh heartbreaking images you see television it's just a fact. My heart aches for those things. Those people you see we are approving we can move the thousands of people day out of couple. We're bringing our citizens. Nato allies afghanis who and help affect us helped us in the war effort. We have a long way to go and a lot could still go wrong. Tommy how's the evacuation effort going at this point. And what are some of the major challenges. The administration is facing trying to evacuate both americans and afghans. So i would say it's. It's pretty chaotic. Still but getting better so As a monday morning the white house said that the evacuated facilitated the evacuation of thirty seven thousand people from afghanistan since august fourteenth the best part of that stat is the tempo. Evacuations is increasing. They said the military they got sixteen thousand people out in the last twenty four hours so very tense situation. You're still seeing these huge crowds in front of The gates of the airport. The white house is worried about potential isis attacks. Jake sold in. The national. Security is talked on sunday shows There's a sniper attack last night on some afghan commandos who were doing security still In support of the us military mission. So you know you're going to still see um scary images some reports. The people getting trampled but it does sound like the pace of the evacuations has increased in. Hopefully that can get them to their goal. Although biden said that If they're not completed by august thirty first he'd be open to pushing the deadline again. So that's out there. Sam unleaded. the criticism biden's received over the last week particularly around not being empathetic enough towards the afghan people Would you think of his statement on sunday that there was no way to evacuate this many people without the pain and loss and heartbreaking images that the president himself said broke his heart. There were perhaps in different ways and i think there was a better way for the administration to let americans know what we might be in for. It was so unexpected to see those images of afghans falling off of our planes after joe biden and his team for months had been saying that it was going to be at least a lot smoother right and so i get it when they say the us leaving hat to be chaotic but i think there should have been some better messaging to help us know what to expect. I also think that team biden really overestimated the strength of the afghan military. It's important to note that the afghan military for years was only really functional when the us was there right beside them. These weren't it. We had this idea years ago that we could build a western government in afghanistan. We couldn't do that. And i think even after that american leaders said that they could build western-style military probably not and no one told us that. And you know to see team. Biden say oh. The soldiers are retreating. No they just can't do it without us. Yeah i think the point biden's probably trying to make is that you could have processed evacuated. All the sl visa holders future sl visa holders as interpreters all the you know the p two visas the people who worked with usa. Id or media organizations. They could have gotten out a week ago and you still probably would have seen huge crowds of people who are scared who have not worked for the us in some capacity who still want out of their ride. Those would be the heartbreaking images. I think that's true. But a bit of a non-sequitur ryan to your point because you we should have gotten people out faster. That's a long story that we should talk about. What i think is getting a little bit lost in both the coverage and the biden messaging is the broader cost of the war over twenty years so brown university as saying they do. The cost of war project is a great website that aggregates the cost but financially and in human terms of the wars. After nine eleven. They estimate that over one hundred. Seventy thousand afghan citizens have been killed in direct fighting since two thousand and one that includes seventy thousand afghan soldiers and police nearly fifty thousand civilians around fifty thousand taliban and not a lot of coverage of well right like those numbers also include death disease hunger right but i think it's totally understandable. That what we're seeing now is focused on stories of people who can't get out Scary images From these crowds etc but it's really hard to adequately convey how much suffering this war has created for the afghan people. But i do think that is why it's actually important for us to end our were effort there. How far do you think the current case scenario is from what the best case scenario of this departure could have been. I mean i think that well. That's a great question. I think the best case scenario would have been That over the past ten years or more. The visa process was went much faster. We got these special immigrant visas out. the trump administration when they cut a deal to withdraw should it expedited. The visa process immediately And we should have figured that piece of this outrage because i think when there's criticism what biden did it's about these potential future visa holders I think ending the war as he said would always require a peace deal at the taliban some sort of negotiated settlement some sort of You know potential civil war effort between the afghan forces and the taliban and so you know it could have been messier. It could have been a lot smoother. We just don't really know i mean a number of outlets now been digging into how the us withdrawal devolved into chaos. I thought the new york times piece was quite good It basically said that as we've been saying you know our intelligence officials believed the taliban takeover wouldn't happen for at least eighteen months so the biden folks thought they had more time to evacuate people that seems to be the main issue here Even though it also points out that refugee groups are urging the white house in may to begin massive accusations But it said that that might have required more. Us troops as biden had just announced withdrawal and the afghan government. Apparently worried that a mass evacuation would quote amount to a vote of no confidence in the government and its forces. And that's something. The president ghani communicated directly to president biden. Tommy does that all sound about right to you and did you find anything else..

Kumble's Taylor van sites with an explanation. 43 million Americans hold some amount of student loan debt last year, payments were deferred and interest rates lowered is a way to ease the economic impact of the pandemic. But Now there's a push to just cancel some of those federal loans. Reporting on this in The Washington Post is Daniel Douglas Gabriel, who joins us on the coma News lights as you report federal student loans make up $1.6 trillion worth of debt held by Americans. Is President Biden in favor of canceling any or all of that debt. So President Biden campaigned on canceling about $10,000 per federal student borrower. Azad part of economic relief and and had some separate ideas about improving some of the existing forgiveness programs from public servants as well as looking at some form of cancelation for those who attend public institutions for Before either associates are bachelors degrees. What we're really focused on here is the call for $10,000 worth of release through as as a means of improving the economy as a result of the pandemic. How would this happen, though it does the president have the authority tol this debt canceled through executive action, Or does he have to go through Congress? That is debatable. Right now, there are many legal scholars as well as lawmakers who say that he does have the authority under the Higher Education Act to use administrative cancelation. At through executive action. Some folks do not believe that is the extent because it's never been done for something quite on the scale, but proponents of this idea said The same authority that Trump administration used to waive interest on federal student loans for the almost last year. Um, is the exact same authority that President Biden could use in order to cancel some portion of debt as disaster relief. Is there any Republican support for canceling the debtor? Is it all going to be uphill for President Biden? Yeah, there isn't any support us for for canceling debt through this particular means. I say that because you know, there are existing loan forgiveness programs for public servants, teachers, nurses and the like, And that does have bipartisan support. Those programs need to be reformed some to make that a little bit easier and simpler for Participants. But this particular form of debt cancelation so far is very much within the Democratic Party's platform and only the Democratic Party's platform and more so towards the more progressive liberal and of the spectrum. Because not everyone that within the party full fully comfortable with this idea of cancelation because there are other competing policies, including doubling the Pell grant for low incomes, college students and looking at some form of tuition free public college. So some folks are a little concerned that if we focus so much attention on canceling the dead, there may not be enough political will momentum and money to address some of these other policy prescriptions. Finally, in any price tag, assigned to this idea of at least partial cancelation of that there hasn't been a definitive price tag on a 10,000 that President Biden campaigned on because we're so rating to see what the design of that policy would look like. Me now natasha. I what what did you. What was your takeaway from the briefing today. Well it was clear that the fbi first of all was trying to do some cleanup on its own behalf. So the fbi official their emphasized that the warnings that they received were in fact shared with their state and local partners so they did share them with local law enforcement officials according to official. So i think this was part of what we've seen in the last week as a continuation of the fbi's attempt to say we did our job. Now the rest is up to you and then with regard to the attorney's office which michael sherwin was talking about. They want to say look. We are taking this seriously with regards to pursuing further charges. But take aways obviously is. We're not seeing the fbi director on stage not seeing briefings directly from the head of the fbi and from senior officials who might indicate to the rest of the country and to potential violent rioters. Who might come back to the capital that this is something that has gone to the highest highest levels of government that will not be tolerated. And i think that that is something that is also concerning some folks tonight. I mean it's a week after it happened six days and no i mean i don't know who runs the h s. Now chad wolf gone. Lord knows who's running that place. Fbi director chris. Wray the acting attorney. General jeffrey rosen image. Just it is shocking to me shocking. Inexcusable that we have not had a briefing. It's remarkable and national security officials who have spoken to have also said. Look you know one of the reasons why we might not be. Seeing them is because they might be afraid that they could get fired. You know in the week. That's left of this administration that speaking truth about this and the reasons why it was incited the realities of why these protesters came in and the capital would force them to lose their jobs and that you know take it at face value.
