"Brought to you by the loan experts I trust, Andrew and Todd at Sierra Pacific Mortgage at andrewandtodd.com. Rosalinda from South Carolina. Charlie, I heard you talking about Mao and the Cultural Revolution. Admittedly, I don't know very much about it. Can you please walk us through it the best you can? Thanks so much. Love the show. Yeah, we don't have enough books. It's a great book, which by the way is super hard to find. It's called Mao the Unknown Story. I don't want to get too deep into this, but it's a really, really hard book to get your hands on. It took me months to actually get it. It was published back in the early 2000s, and it was actually recommended to me by Dennis Prager. Mao the Unknown Story, where you actually, it's an incredible picture into Mao Zedong of where he came from, how he was raised, where he came up with this idea of the Long March. And so Mao came to power as a military officer, and there was a ton of poverty and devastation, obviously in mainland China, that the Japanese were largely responsible for. And what people don't understand, though, is that Mao actually welcomed the Japanese occupation of much of China. He schemed, even poisoned and blackmailed to get his way. It was all about power. And then after Mao conquered China in 1949, 1949 was the key year, his secret goal was then to dominate the entire world. And understand that Maoism has not left the Chinese Communist Party. It's still largely there, that the Chinese Communist Party is still Maoist more than they are even Marxist. And, you know, only 70 million people died under Mao's rule. But the most applicable part of the rise of the Chinese Communist Party and Maoism is this term that you hear more and more. And there's a great book by Christopher Rufo, we had him on the program over the summer, about a cultural revolution. You are living through a cultural revolution. And that phrase is used more and more and more, but we have to understand what that actually is. A cultural revolution is remaking the actual DNA and the fiber of the nation that you are in. It's refounding the nation. So we commonly cite the United States Constitution, the greatest political document ever written, and the Declaration of Independence. The promises made in the Constitution and the Declaration are completely and totally at odds with what the Marxist-Maoist left wants to do. So Mao Zedong takes power officially in 1949. He basically purged a lot of the non-believers. They create this thing called the bamboo curtain, which basically walled off China from the rest of the world. And Mao then decided to go inward. This is what's very important. It's very similar to what the left is doing right now, is that the left is taking their cues from what Mao did is you wage the war domestically. Some of the phrases that you hear, struggle sessions, the Red Guard, these are all Maoist terms, far more than even what Stalin did, including the Great Leap Forward. So there were these purges that occurred in 1966 all the way through what would be called, you know, the Cultural Revolution. He established revolutionary committees and the People's Liberation Army, the PLA. And in fact, even in 1966, in May of 1966, with the help of the Cultural Revolution Group, he infiltrated even more parts of the Chinese government and deployed cadres of the Red Guard, mostly students, by the way. Sound familiar? Mostly students to go find elders and adults and report them for struggle sessions. You must understand that one of the things that drove Mao's worldview was that there was no God. You know, we are propagandized all the time when they say that, oh, Mike Johnson's a Christian nationalist and biblical worldview, as if it's, you know, the scary, awful, you know, phantom that we must oppose. What is the worldview of Mao? The worldview of Mao is world domination, that there is no transcendent, there is no eternal promise. This world is all that there is, and we must have complete power over the earth. That is far scarier, like infinitely scarier, than the idea that you're made in the image of a creator, regardless if you're Jewish or Christian or whatever. Mao famously said, power grows out of a barrel of a gun. And what we must understand is that the American professor community, they don't teach Mao as if this guy was a terrible dictator, and look at all these lessons, they almost look at Mao as a blueprint, or dare I say, a red print. Look how successful Mao Tse Tung was. And one of the things you learn about Mao is that instead of taking responsibility for the welfare of your citizens, you must constantly have an enemy. This is what is necessary for progressivism, or Hegelianism, which is you must constantly be focused on the quote-unquote fringe nature, the radicalism, the othering of a different group, otherwise called scapegoating. That there must be a scapegoat, and this is what you position your troops, your infantry to be focused on. And you see this in the media right now. Instead of talking about our wide open southern border, massive inflation, just find a group of people that you can blame for your problems. This is nothing new. Tyrants and totalitarians have done this all throughout history. The Nazis did this with the Jews. Joseph Stalin did this with the Kulaks. Tyrants and authoritarians need a group of people to blame to get more power. The American Maoists blame conservatives, Christians, and people on the conservative right as to why they don't have utopia yet on earth, therefore give us more power. But we must understand that Mao's cultural revolution was more than just political power. He was actually trying to remake the human DNA. And unfortunately, what's here now in 2023, we have to ask ourselves the question, did it work? The people of China are not a freedom-loving people. They've really never been a freedom-loving people. They've been okay with dynastic rule of multi-thousand year reign. But the people now in 2023 in China are fine with a social credit system being locked up in their apartments for months on end. They have no memory of freedom, so what is it they're trying to actually fight for? And Mao, in his quite honestly diabolical plan for the cultural revolution, was able to remake the body politic of a billion people. And to this day, you would think that the West would be unified in saying that's a bad idea. Remember when Mike Bloomberg came out recently in the last couple of years and he said that the Xi Jinping model, he has concern for his citizens? Or most famously, I think it's Tom Friedman, right, Blake? Where he just fawns over in the New York Times, like, look what China can do. They could build an airport in a day. Well, yeah, I mean, there's no private property and you just get to work your laborers for 22 hours a day till they pass out or die from exhaustion and not feed them. But yeah, you could build an airport in a week. Deep down, there is this envy that the American elites have when it comes to China. Gavin Newsom just recently goes to China. He has all this ridiculous double talk. You know, there's all these competitive challenges and our differences are distinct. What is hidden below the surface that bubbles up every so often, that pops up, is that the American elites are jealous of the Chinese Communist Party. They are jealous of the advantages of totalitarianism, that they don't have to really deal with elections, that they can speak things into existence and they will be listened to. They don't have to worry about the pesky complaints of the commoners, the deplorables, the listless vessels. They could flip a switch and get whatever they want. They go to China and they marvel in how much power even a middle-of-the-road bureaucrat has. When they say they are fighting for democracy, what is it they're actually fighting for? Oligarchy. Let's be more specific. The American ruling elite don't want to actually challenge China because they want America to become more like China in a lot of different ways. They love the fact that the Chinese Communist Party elite and the oligarchs are largely untouchable, that they are the philosopher kings of the Chinese Communist Party and they look at the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s playbook of Mao to be implemented here in America. China literally calls itself a people's democracy, which is of course a joke, but you can implement a rather harsh oligarchy while calling it a democracy. Just look at the Chinese Communist Party.

"Bob Menendez is stepping down as his chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee. Because of the indictment, he's going to have to fight that is this guy is such a criminal, he's such a traitor to the United States. It's very similar to Joe Biden. You know, Joe Biden sells out the country. It's just that Bob Menendez was sloppier than Joe Biden. What's really going on here is that 930 is coming into sight and a government shutdown is looming. The administrative state, the insiders, the fourth branch of government. They're getting a little nervous that some of their funding might be put in jeopardy. So you have to ask the question, why do they unseal the indictment against Bob Menendez now? Now, the kind of normie argument is, oh, Charlie, timing means nothing and it's just the way it is. No, no, no, there's there's more to the story here. They're trying to put the senators on notice in the U.S. Senate. If you question us, if you even as much as cut a half of a penny of our money, you might be next. Because you better believe that Bob Menendez is definitely the most. I don't want to say the most corrupt, but he's just a sloppy, bribe accepting traitor. This guy's not very sophisticated. But think about other senators that might be doing deals via their son or deals via their cousin or deals via the uncle, very similar to how Joe Biden configured many of these ideas. The fourth branch of government. Is doing this publicly. Is doing this before the continuing resolution funding fight is resolved because they want to remind you who is in charge, and that includes Democrats. If you do not get right in line and parrot the talking points of the intelligence agencies. Then the sword of Damocles could fall on your head. If you study Joseph Stalin, Stalin was a maniac, but how was Stalin able to hold on to power for so long? First of all, Stalin had fifty thousand bodyguards. He was a paranoid maniac. We don't talk enough about Stalin being actually a seminary student early in his life, understanding the Bible, then becoming a committed atheist. That's really sick when you think about it. A guy that studied the scriptures for years and then becomes. Someone who worships at the altar of the state, if that's not demonic, I don't know what is Stalin responsible for almost more murders than any other human being in the history of the planet, maybe Mao and him are tied. It's unknown how many people. The intentional starvation of people, the intentional massacring, the gulags, all that. Stalin did several purges to eradicate enemies of the working class, going after the kulaks, the property owners, going after the dissidents, going after the comedians. Sound familiar? Stalin needed to keep people on their toes, and Stalin said, hey, if you even as much mention the famine and that's exactly what's happening on the border. It's so Soviet, there's no problem on the border. It's exactly like what Pravda would publish in 1934 Russia. There's no famine. It's a bountiful harvest. There's never been a year as great as 1934. Stalin also did another thing is he would randomly, without any sort of reason, pick someone that has been effective, loyal, and close to him and kill him. He did this arbitrarily as a message to everyone else that you could be next. One of the most famous of these, it's a man by the name of General Tukhachevsky. General Tukhachevsky was a very, very loyal Stalin general. In fact, he had the nickname as being called Red Napoleon. He was prominent for 20 years. He was a military officer. He ran one of Stalin's military academies. He was chief of staff for the Red Army for three years. Major proponent for the Soviet military, one of Stalin's closest confidants. He and Stalin would vacation together and they were loyal. He did nothing wrong by any objective measurement. But between 1936 and 1934, Stalin wanted to send a message. And the message was that no one is off limits, that I get to decide who lives. I get to decide. And General Tukhachevsky was killed in the Soviet show trials between 1936 and 1938. And the administrative state operates exactly the same. And fear is an effective tool to control people, including the other 99 US senators. Listen, as students begin heading back to school, do you think they'll be learning about the founding principles that made America the freest, most prosperous nation in history? Will they learn that our unalienable rights are God given and not granted by government? Will they be given a full and honest account of our nation's history? The answer to all these questions is yes for students at Hillsdale College. And these days, in addition to teaching college students, Hillsdale has extended its teaching to K through 12 students and lifelong learners like you and me. "I want to thank Charlie, he's an incredible guy, his spirit, his love of this country. He's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created, Turning Point USA. We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives, and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country, that's why we are here. Brought to you by the loan experts I trust, Andrew and Todd at Sierra Pacific Mortgage at andrewandtodd.com. Today Donald Trump is going to be arraigned at a DC federal courthouse. Former President of the United States, arraigned by this feral dog by the name of Jack Smith, who is using the full force of the federal government. And Merrick Garland signed off on this. It's supposed to be an independent council, this is not an independent council, this is one of Eric Holder's lackeys, went out to The Hague. This guy has failed time and time again with his prosecutorial record. Failed with McDonald, overturned at the Supreme Court. He is perfect for political prosecutions, or should I say, persecutions. I've read the indictment multiple times, we've been through the details of this. This is a disgrace. It's a total disgrace, and I will say, I'm sensing a little bit of a change of even some of the most ardent Trump critics that I speak with and I text with. I spoke with one the other day, someone who hates Donald Trump, and I called him, I said, so, how do you feel? He said, man, I hate Trump. I said, but I don't hate him this much. He said, what do you mean? He said, man, this is so bad. This is so damaging, so dangerous. He's like, Trump's probably going to win the nomination, I'll support him in the general. He's like, I really think Trump is bad for the country, but this is worse. I was like, OK, that's an honest take. I could take that. That is progress. That is movement. And I'll be honest. Anybody who is now doing cheap shots at Donald Trump while he is under active, multi sham federal indictments, I've lost respect for you. Read the room. Understand what's really at play here. This is not the time to get in cheap shots of, oh, Donald Trump should have fired Fauci faster. Yeah, yeah, yeah, OK. Get out of the way. We don't have time for this. OK? There's something much bigger going on here than policy disagreements. That might be valid. OK, personnel selection. We've talked about it. This is the whole ballgame. Can an unelected administrative state take out the leader of an opposition party? They believe. Yes, absolutely. So The New York Times, I read it, so you don't have to. It's just the lack of self-awareness here is amazing. So they go through the co-conspirators. We had John Eastman on the program and who's likely going to be indicted or unindicted co-conspirator. We don't know. This is this is the headline. First Amendment is likely linchpin of Trump defense. Allies prepare for fight over free speech after indictment calls out lies. And then it goes on to say the indictment cites a campaign of election falsehoods. Time out here. Are you allowed to believe things that the government doesn't believe? Why do we have a First Amendment? We are the speaking beings, as Aristotle would say. We have reason, dialogue, conversation, disagreement, debate. What opinions exactly need to be regulated? A free society means that you're allowed to not just disagree, but challenge. And in a free society, you're allowed to have what is deemed as wacky or goofy opinions. I don't even think what Donald Trump was espousing was wacky or goofy. For the record, I think Donald Trump was onto something huge. His gut instinct is correct. The 2020 election was a sham. From the intel agencies to the fake Hunter Biden laptop letter to the mass mail-in ballots to the Center for Technology and Civic Life to the Yul-Roth meetings with Twitter and the FBI, Donald Trump was onto something. But this indictment, and this is why when people do these cheap shots on Trump like, oh, Nikki Haley, move on, get out of the way. You're a waste of time, all right? This here is the criminalization of wrongthink. This is the criminalization and the potential imprisonment and death penalty. That's right. One of the statutes that Donald Trump is facing could potentially get him the death penalty for asking questions. Now, let's just go through the last couple hundred years. Is there ever a time where somebody challenges an orthodoxy and ends up being proven right? One of the most famous examples is Galileo. Galileo, who was basically put on house arrest for questioning, saying, hey, maybe there's something to this heliocentric theory of, nope, I'll put you in house arrest. Go into prison. Or in the 1900s, lobotomies used to be considered to be the most amazing medical breakthrough. How about as recently as the Hunter Biden laptop is a Russian disinformation? Our leader said that, or that the vaccine is safe and effective, or that lockdowns are going to help kids, or that the virus is going to kill 20 percent of our population. What's really going on here with this indictment? And what infuriates me, and I have not heard this point made, is like, OK, they're going after somebody for wrongthink. Meanwhile, not a single member of the administrative state, not a single maggot, not a single vermin, not a single one of these people have been held accountable for their lies the last couple of years, for their intentional misrepresentations, for power, for profit. And yet they're going after Donald Trump for asking questions that they don't like. And The New York Times says, well, you know, the First Amendment is likely his defense. Well, yeah. What they are trying to do is set a precedent that, I'll be honest, is even bigger than Donald Trump. They're going for a civilizational changing indictment here. Not only do they think they will be able to take out the leader of the opposition party, they want to set a precedent in what will be the highest profile case. More eyeballs on this case than I think any in American history. Maybe, maybe the Scopes Monkey trial would come closer. This is going to be, this will be covered wall to wall, every motion, every filing. And by the way, I know it's not customary. We need to demand that there are cameras in the courtroom. We need to demand it. And every one of these trials, there is not an argument not to have cameras in the courtroom, period. You're going to go lock up the opposition leader. I want it on every television. Own it, Jack Smith. Own it, prosecutors. Come on, show us what you're doing. I don't want to look at some sort of sketch by some sort of guy. No, no, no, no, no. Cameras in the courtroom. I want to know what's going on. This will make the O.J. Simpson trial look like child's play as far as the high profile civilizational impact. And that's not just one. You got documents. You got this conspiracy to defraud the United States, a bunch of silly stuff. You got the Georgia one that is looming. We need cameras in the courtroom. We need eyeballs. I thought, because democracy dies in darkness, right? That's what I'm lectured by the degenerates of the Washington Post every day. What is really going on here in this indictment is, yes, Donald Trump is part of it. But the bigger game is can they eliminate the First Amendment? And that is even bigger than Trump. That is the crux of this indictment. The crux of this indictment is the promise of the United States Constitution that our founding fathers put in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, the Bill of Rights, inspired largely by George Mason, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech or of press and the right to peaceably assemble. Here is the key. Here is the key. And to petition the government for a redress of grievances, this entire thing, even if you think Donald Trump was on Neptune and he believed wacky stuff, which I do not. I think he was onto something. You are constitutionally allowed to challenge your government. You're allowed to believe wacky and weird stuff. In fact, that is what makes America a great country. We should applaud it when somebody asks questions of their government. We shouldn't send them to prison. The government is not the arbiter of truth. And that's what I just keep on going back to it. What was the state-run newspaper of the USSR? Truth. Pravda. We know the truth as the USSR. Not you, Kulak. If you disagree, I will put you in prison and murder you. "And he's not particularly like the most fleet of foot, especially at this point of his career. But because of his footwork because of his reach because of his smarts and experience, he uses, he makes the most of what he's working with, right? And so he can handle speed in terms of rush defense. But he can also box out in front of the net. He can kill cycles. He can do a lot of the stuff that some of the other defensemen have struggled with. I think he's not necessarily the profile of the most prolific puck mover up the ice. That's part of my appeal for trying to speak Carlson oilers into existence was I want to see him head Manning the puck up the ice to McDavid and getting like the cleanest exits possible. That's not really at combs game where he thrives is a much more underrated part of the breakout and it's the first step, right? It's going back, retrieving the puck, absorbing an oncoming for checker, taking a hit most times, and still making effective play. And that's something this blue line really struggle with in the postseason last year has continued to struggle with again this year. It's handling that speed, right? It's like when a four tracker is coming at you, they have a lot of guys who all of a sudden panic make a mistake leads to a turnover and it prevents you from breaking out cleanly. And I quote might not be always making that first pass out of the zone, but he'll get it to McDavid in a way that he can skate it out then, right? He'll get it to Bouchard, who can then make the pass up. That's something he excels at. And so I think that combination of skills is actually the exactly what they needed. Now I know I would have loved to see them go out and add another right shot defenseman because if you look that's kind of the weakness of their depth chart now. But I think there is that trickle down effect here where, okay, you use at home with Bouchard. All of a sudden the CCN and nurse who have been kind of like thrown into the deep end and have been drowning for a lot of the year, all of a sudden have less to do. They're not necessarily eating up all the tough minutes. Kulak, who we know thrives in sort of tertiary shelter admit or kind of like a lesser responsibility, gets the bump down to a third pairing role where he can all of a sudden do what he excels at. And so I think the depth chart, even though echo and does play the left side allows everything to kind of fall into a more natural place. For sure, and I'm also really curious to see the impact this has on Bouchard, all of a sudden in terms of he's an X Factor in such a key piece now, especially because you didn't add. Another right side defender, you look at how impressive he was last season, I think losing Duncan Keith, you could tell that he wasn't quite finding his fit. It's been a tough year for him. And so having an experienced partner like at home, someone who can clean up a lot of defensive mistakes, someone who's reliable in his own end, that frees up Bouchard, I think, and I'm really curious to see if he can sort of regain some of the form that he showed. Last season, which then gives you an internal boost as well.

"How it makes everyone else better around them, even guys who aren't necessarily playing with them. Yeah, it's your point, boats say Brad kulak. I mean, last year in the playoffs, Brett kullak, and Tyson berry were very respectable, third pair. Mostly this year they've been the second pair so that I mean that is a huge change for them. They haven't found over the last 6, 8 weeks, Phil broberg's really come in and been a helpful player, and been paired with Evan Boucher, but last year Bouchard and Doug Keith were the second pair at least in the back half of the year. So there's been this and we talked to them mentioned earlier and you know as well, but Cody sisi, you know, there's a lot of kind of moving parts that are moving in the wrong direction, right? So to your point, you know, and I kind of illustrated this earlier. If you can get Carlson in there, playing with nurse and fly to everyone down, that changes the whole dynamic of that defense corps. You know, I think it'd be interesting to see kind of how it would shake out, you know, after that, I would think if you formed kind of a veteran pair of kulak and sisi, again, we're assuming the Tyson varies going in the street. And then the third pair would be your two kind of younger eisen Bouchard and broberg who play together for a little while and obviously can be sheltered and allowed to grow kind of in a third pairing role. You know, and there's the mentorship factor I know the guy Philip broberg looked up to as a kid in Sweden, miss Eric Carlson. So to have him in the same dressing room and then learning from him as a rookie defenseman, I think, would be a boon there as well. So yeah, again, I hope I didn't come into this conversation with you. I was supposed to this. I really come around and I just, I would say, from my understanding, the others are certainly in. I think everyone knows that. But I think it's about henness percent chance of them being able to pull it off in the next two weeks. So you're saying there's a chance. Exactly, exactly. So, and that probably makes them the frontrunners because this is a very tricky deal to make at this time of year. It might be easier at the draft and when life's cleared off a team's books and they're about to be cleared off teams books, but they're certainly our benefits. Don't get me wrong to Eric Carlson being an oiler. Just kind of hard to see. Okay, well, here's a question here's a logistical question for you that in terms of what it would look like on the ice. So I think a big part of Eric Carlson's magic or charm out there is his ability to carry the puck off the ice, especially this year with how healthy is looked with it with his foot or any issues that he had previously a lower body and how he's able to maneuver through traffic just so brilliantly and make plays and make people miss and get the puck up the ice in that way. And I think it's a fair question to wonder.

"You know, it was nice to hear his voice and it was nice to again get the chance to look back and feel that little bit of nostalgia from like, Oh, yeah, this happened. Oh, yeah, that happened. Wow, that happened during this time. Wow, that's pretty cool. Indeed, so It's not over and there's another game. If Tampa does lose this series, I'll tell you a power play in overtime. Not only is it rare to get a power play in overtime or a power play in late in regulation one of these games I mean, you watch That game last night. They were not calling penalties. As is usually the case like you just you just don't call penalties. My wife, you know, we're watching the game. She walks in for a minute, um, was doing stuff elsewhere. Walks in, Sees a guy gets tripped and go, says Outlaw. Is that tripping? Yeah. Yeah, it is, but like, well, even but even before the Patrick Maroon goal, he interfered with Brett Kulak. Clearly in the neutral zone knocks him down. Just kind of like a fly by knocks him down, which is interference he didn't have the pocket wasn't anywhere near the puck. And he goes back the other way and scores and like people on Twitter are just like, Oh, nice, nice job missing that interference And you know my phrase. What is interference? It's just like that's exactly what I'm talking about. Yep. Well, One more game to miss calls. One more game on NBC, Um At the very least, will get one more game. Yeah, seriously. It was pretty close to over in Tampa. Their power play did not score. But it looks lethal. And they had chances in close and they moved the park really well, and it looked very, very dangerous. One stat I did not realize is throughout the entire postseason. Tampa's second power play has yet to score a goal. Yeah, their second power play unit has no goals. Now. That sounds like the Sabres for the longest time. You know, I'll have to check to see how many power play goals. Their first unit has part of immediately. I wondered. Is that because the first unit scores the goal and the power place over, you know if the first unit is scoring a power play goal again, the second unit might not ever see the ice if they score fast enough as Tampa Bay scored a power play goal at all in this series. I'm not sure about this series. No, because I mean Montreal was heading into the player heading into the final is the best penalty killing team scoring 30 some odd Blust straight penalties and I don't remember if Tampa Bay has scored. At all in this series on the power play, which would be very impressive to shut them out. Yeah, I'll come back right now. You're gonna get about as you say, I'll find out okay? I already found it. They scored once in Game three. And it was their only power play chance. That was a victim. Hedman goal. That's the thing Like being great at the penalty killer being great on the power plays only so helpful. You need penalties for to happen. 80305 51 8885 52 5 50 hope you had a good Fourth of July weekend, a good fifth of July weekend with yesterday being the observed Independence Day. Now he gets it across the line on left wing for Suzuki lost an edge as he fell in the corner, keeps the puck alive as he rims it around off a broken stick. Below the goal line. It's nudged back around. Suzuki has it again, and his pass to the point gets away from Kulak, and now he's under duress as he beats Cirelli to it. Thanks it back ahead to Suzuki drop past the Caulfield right back to Suzuki off the left port in behind that centers score Josh Anderson for the first time in the series, the Montreal Canadian I have a lead. From anywhere near the slot and directly in front of Vasilevskiy to this point the game Canadians about shot the lightning in each of the last two games in this series, and that has not served them well, either. Gallagher intercepts at the blue Line, heads up ice, but turned away at the lightning strike as he tried to get it to Foley now followed up by you know who got it about 20 ft inside the line before firing it into the middle and point intercepts that Takes it to center red and pitchforks it in on the backhand. This extra day of rest has seemed to have really helped Tampa Bay more sold in Montreal. No, but Canadians get lucky There is Edmondson just fluttered one to the line and just crossed the line. Now, Suzuki takes a shot from the right wing, well off the mark and turning back lit his stamp coast. Speed up the middle from Sara Lee got a shot away kick save by price rebound just wide off the stick of Porton. That was a golden opportunity there on the rebound. It's almost like a set play, isn't it, Joe? You give up possession of the puck full. Well, knowing you're going to get it back. That line looks like everything they do is set. A soft wind in the offensive zone. McDonald's for the Lightning throws it purposely off the end boards, and it's collected by Yanni Gord Changing direction. He's able to get it back to turn back from the right point. Got a quick shot away that missed the net. McDonough keeps it on the left boards. Or keeps it moving along to the corner. Gaudreau again right point turn AC and he was handcuffed by that, but he did recover to keep it in the zone as he retreats back defensively, 15 15 to go in a scoreless first period. Johnny Gord tees one up. As he comes across the line on left wing that missed everything comes around and out to Senate. Suzuki couldn't reach it. And neither could Anderson. So Gord has it again for Tampa Bay Lightning of scored first in all but four of their playoff games the entire postseason. Cold Caufield handles from Montreal back in his own zone, and Romanoff getting in for the first time since the Vegas series moves it ahead. Suzuki whips it around and in changes for the Canadians, as John Rueda lifts it back for Tampa Bay. Only thing they haven't done yet is score. Harry can't get a pass up the right side from Weber, who is now forced to throw it through the middle and back into the lightning zone. Carey Price has to make us safe, and then he has to make a couple more on the scramble after that's just chaos. After that faceoff win for Cirelli is again the Lightning have the haves hemmed in their own zone. Cirelli behind the net, bumped there by Chara and shot dropped his stick. So Cirelli whips it around. Waiting at the right point is Eric Turner. He throws it to the network went off the skate of the defender Sherrod in front and made that more difficult for price, and maybe it needed to be Canadians live to talk about it, and Sherrod brings at the center and wires it in Vasilevskiy stays put and out of the right corner. Lightning unable to clear the zone, however, and Dino keeps it into the left circle for to Foley in the corner. He's taken out by turn AC, and that allows McDonough to move it ahead. Done. A plus six in this series goes for a change. Cirelli sends it in from the blue line, and the Lightning will finish that change as it's gloved down by price for Sharratt, then Sherrod has a couple of points in three games in this series. After not having a point the entire playoffs head Mans the puck into the Tampa Bay zone off the stick of Evans, and it's collected behind the net by Braydon points point for the Lightning pulls up those across off the skate of surrogate, Kev and then his pass deflected out of Played by the stick of our Turi Lechner. Montreal trying something a little bit different to start this game. They're trying to stretch out the Tampa Bay Lightning. Florida did that in in round number one and did a good job. Because Tampa Bay's a team that likes to defended layers. They don't like you to get to the for your own blue line, Then they don't like you to get to the red line. Then they don't like you to get to your blue light, so they continue continually. Force the issue until Montreal here in the early going is trying to stretch him out trying to get the defense in the backup. They're sending forwards down to the far blue line to try and accomplish that both fourth lines on the ice as the lightning able to get it in, and it eludes price behind the Nets. Johnson trying to get it back to maroon, but it's poke loose, and Perry protects the puck whips it into the middle of the ice on the backhand. Cool AC up on the rush had his past knocked back behind him, So he retreats defensively. Now it's into the corner install, tried to get it across the Perry, A good stick from David Savard denied that Kept in at the right point, however, by Kulak again to the front of the net and trying to get there was Army A, but he was upended Johnson wheels to the corner with it got to the line. Edmondson kept it in with escape. Then it's nudged passed him by Patrick Maroon popped into the middle of the ice and Johnson caught in the back checked by stall who takes one hand off the stick to make sure he doesn't take a penalty. "I'm sure there is is a lot of that that goes on You know personally. I don't. I'm not typically running to the sports look at that point in the game because you know actually a lot of a lot of sports folks. Don't offer a kinda market in the overtime periods out which you know is is probably missed opportunity I think we could probably agree with that. I mean they could really Get get some Or create some some interesting america over time But now i. It's it's you know i i think i think for the most part people are writing their their pre-game wagers and and most that do most of their game bedding the game when overtime is is is Almost for entertainment purposes only. It's true and a as a ranger fan watching all of those play overtime games in the fourteen and fifteen runs i am. I'm surprised my hair is still my natural. I you know. I guess i will say that. I think that the rangers deserved a better fate this year else week. That in because You know they were. They were really really Really really tough team to play against this year and You know in in a normal year they probably would have found themselves in a blouse five. Yeah i mean you consider that there would be another. Almost thirty games left. They were only what six points out. That certainly reasonable the thing that they could make six point thirty games for sure and they were a great team to bet on me personally. This year i did very well on them especially when Especially when she store can get back in the fold and healthy. I have there been any other who the new windows head. Coach is going to be I haven't seen anything I in in the us. Marcus i have seen some stuff. Globally and it's. It's all the names that you'd expect which i wouldn't put much stock into those things are are more for their own marketing purposes. A lot of ways. I i will say that But though it's it's the names that you've seen probably one name that you don't wanna see john tortorella how you know. I'm i'm terrell. He would not be. You would not be a good fit for this. And i like twitter. L. i do. He's a good coach. And i i. If i if i was starting t i will probably love to have him as a coach. But we're the rangers right now. No chance yeah. So i i really from banning perspective. I can't really speak to that to be honest if you're talking if you're asking me as the hockey fan i i would think that this is going to be pretty hard to screw up for them. There's a couple of great candidates out there in claude julien or drug lab. I mean there's there's a couple others. I'm sure But i think this is one just one is is is a tough one up and if the rangers do mess it up it'll be a real big month myth opportunity for the organization. Now we're talking the handy mcneil. So let's go back to the teams that are hitting the puck around other than the little white ball on the golf course. Let's start look locally. We we kinda touched on it a little bit the new york islanders pittsburgh penguins islanders already up one. Nothing in this series and pay would have seemed to have gotten hot at the right time at the end of the season like they seem to do every time they make that lengthy run and the islanders seemed to get the vessel tonight. What you look. What are you looking for in this series. Going forward Well i'll be looking for varlamov to get get back in the crease. I think he's the the stronger of the two goaltenders. I don't think that's a much of a debate Although you know sarokin is has been fine this season for sure. I in his first campaign. you know. I'll obviously be curious about afghani belkin because he's a huge difference maker and could be the difference maker in game two so That those things that i'm monitoring going forward but you know a assuming malcolm is back. I i think the islanders are going to win the series Sixty seven percent of the time. Which is a little bit implies a little bit better of a chance than what we're seeing. We live line For the series after game one at minus one eighteen to over actor askings So you would have to lay a dollar eighty two win dollar on the islanders. fear but. I think this is going to be a really close series. I mean going in. I expected pittsburgh's still to win more often than not here Although i do think you know the islanders have and defensively and in goal But they don't have the skill to match penguins off front boss. Now you know a guy like Kyle mary is finding his way with the islanders. After a really disappointing stretch since Being del From new jersey That could make a big difference here too with two goals today including the overtime winner. That's exactly what you want to see if you're an islanders fan if you're an island is better But this is still the the closest match outfits you know. It's the matchup that i think he's he's going to likely stretch to seven games 'specially pittsburgh gets their their second best player. Ask any mouth and back in the lineup and i would say strictly as an just an as an observed. The islanders window is right now. They went. They went to the conference finals last season. In the bubble playoffs they bring in camarines ajax trade deadline this year. Like they're going for right now like if it's not this year. When's it gonna be for sure. And you know they've they've they had some some some really good pieces in a great piece and in matt brazil and on a big fan of kulak ryan polack But you know you're kidding yourself. If you think that the window is in you know propped open for very long hair. They've got to do some tinkering and probably rebuild on fly over the next few years But obviously you know with with young players like alan beauvillier. There's there's still some time to see what they've lost them into Given what we know right now like you said i think the window is is is open right now but closing and i ll with the other eastern division series and this woman actually has the most intrigued to me. Is the washington capitals. The boston bruins we saw yesterday. Washington gets that one. Nothing lead with the overtime goal by nick. Dowd ovechkin looking for a second cup and the bruins have a very strong team while even though they did finish in fourth place in division. Where where do you see. This series gone while i was very high on the brooms and maybe not so much on the capital's Heading into the series had boston With a sixty four percent chance of winning which i wouldn't equate to odds of minus one eighty or their votes Their series price was around nine at one fifty five minus one sixty so i was a little bit higher than that but I was able to bet them and mine is one thirty You know a great a great best. I think still in hindsight. But i didn't get great star. Hopefully they can even the series here They are currently plus one four to win this series. That draftkings i. I don't think that's a great beckham. People make i think it should be closer to plus one fifteen brooms here. Losing the first game But you know bach and has played really well. And they've down so much chemistry with the addition of taylor hall. I am some of the other minor. Pieces like mike. Riley incurred criticism that that were added that the team. Obviously anthony mantha really good in washington But the you know the capitals issues on on defending goal We're definitely a concern to me But they came out yesterday and they. They really stepped tone. Obviously ovechkin. i try.

This week came about because I found myself standing at the corner, freezing at the corner of north and Wells in the middle of what used to be known as The old town strip, where second cities still is and where a place called the Earl of Old Town once stood and opening stores I used to as a kid. Have to sneak in there on Sundays when they would open it up for like kids we'd sneak in and Listen to people that we would come to love you believe John Prying and Bunny Kulak and the brothers Holstein and I remembered in this weird Hi. That is my mind that Micro Rico's Memorial Service, which was held at Wrigley Field of all places. Uh, hey, had he and Judy, his wife and some others. His kids had Fred Holstein come out and play and Fred was Fred was a character and a half. And remembering that and standing at the corner of Wells and north. It reminded me of Steve Goodman. Steve Goodman, who has been gone since 1984 and I often think Steve died of leukemia, which he contracted when he was very young man and never thought he'd live to be 30. But he did live to be 36. He made A ton of good music. And so I looked on my shelves. And I said, I've got a million Steve Goodman CDs. This was all the unusual woman it is called Live. 69 minute was recorded at the girl, Bolton. I have to believe we're also would be recorded. 1969. So here are two songs from it.
