"kubelik" Discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show

"Sitting in for Paul. Hanging out with you guys, asking you your favorite and least favorite SEC traditions. 855-242-7285 plus everybody's fired up about NIL. And it's really, I don't blame anybody. This is a new world. And the faster we accept that whatever we used to know isn't real anymore, the easier it becomes for all of us to try and figure out how to navigate the new world that we're in. Now, I never bring you guys experts that I don't think at a tremendous amount of value. And you know Cole kubelik well, I will just say, I will never forget in my life. I had the opportunity years ago and I was such a new person to ESPN college football coverage at the time. And I got to do the mock playoff committee and when you sit in the mock playoff committee, you sit with 12 other people, so there's 13 of you. And you go through the entire process just the way the committee does, and it's there to help all of us learn how that process works. So we better understand it when we analyze it. I will never forget sitting in the room with Cole and just walking out of the room saying that guy knows more than I do about everything and it charges you to want to be better at your job. That's why I think it's important to talk to somebody like Cole in a situation like this. So Cole, I appreciate you hanging out with me. I appreciate you bringing your expertise to this because this is a new world. We're all living in for any of us that covered or love it or watch it. So as we look at name image likeness, I guess the first thing that I continue to try and wrap my head around is what next, since the NCAA didn't get a system in place before it started, can a system ever be put in place in your mind? I don't believe so. Not under the current setup, Jason. I think you're talking about going backwards or adding guardrails or putting the car back in the garage or putting the pieces of the puzzle back together. I just don't see it. I don't think it happens. You're going to get sued and there have been articles that have been written with attorneys that have already said. We're just waiting for somebody to try to put something in place that's going to limit the potential earning power of my client and I'm going to antitrust suit on the NCAA, get ready. And the UTLA is going to sprint from that. They want no part of it. Whatever they spent 58, 78 million in legal fees last year, taking a bunch of L's, by the way. So I don't see any way that you can put in as toothpaste back in the tube. It's done. This is what it is. I guess from a booster relation standpoint, you could try to put something together that would try to keep things from being, I guess, as much of a pay for play situation that we're starting to sort of see. But again, every time somebody comes up with a solution or a fix or a way to sort of negate some of the things that are happening that don't seem to be what's best for college football, the first thing that comes to my mind is lawsuit, lawsuit. That's what you're going to get. And the NCAA just can not handle any more litigation right now. So I think they'll talk a big talk. I think they'll suggest things that they want to put in place. I think they'll try to make it sound like they're going to enforce certain rules, but I really don't think they can do it because at the end of the day, they can afford to get sued anymore. Now, down the road when I think what we all believe to be inevitable and that is this giant breakaway split like this tectonic shift with a continent split again and 45 or 55 or 70 teams pull away and form their own new division. Could there be a way once you go do that that you could pull that off? Still might take the government to get involved to be able to do it from an antitrust perspective, but I just don't see it, Jason. And I don't see any ways this thing's going backwards. So then if you're a school and you're trying to navigate these waters, now you have a bunch of boosters that are just outwardly paying a ton of money to pay players at some point for whatever the services they're getting back. How do you keep those boosters at bay when they demand playing time? I think you just have to have an understanding that our coach coaches, you boost. And we're going to choose who gives us the best opportunity to win football games. That's why he makes 5, 5 and a half, $10 million a year. Because this is still his football team. We're very appreciative of what you've done. If we're being very technical here, Jason, that part shouldn't really matter because the coach didn't have to go back to the collective because he's not really allowed to have a lot to do with it. As we've heard Jimbo say recently, he didn't really know about it. He didn't do it. He didn't talk to him, apparently. So it's legally in a lot of states, that's the way that it's supposed to be managed as opposed to work..

"Welcome back to the Blackhawks postgame show got about 12 minutes or so left. We have yet to get to because the heavy postgame reaction From Nashville. The highlights of this one. So let's take it through one more time in the Black Hawk struck early and just the way they wanted to try and get Nashville thinking a little bit too much because that Predators penalty kill, which was hammered for eight Goals in 12 opportunities over two games in Dallas. They're to go to the kill again two minutes and 12 seconds into this one. When Mark bore Viets Key was called for slashing and a little bit more than 45. Seconds later, Blackhawks able to cash in got the puck too strong over the predator line, left wing down to cane left corner. Bends it behind the net around the shop that in high slot the Keith the Cane and the Left Wing Circle cane banks it back to Keith. Left point. Put it over top of the right circle, Dominant Kubelik with a drive safe. We don't score. It's Dylan Strome as that rebound caromed off of Rene straight up the slot. Strong was in perfect position to slap home the goal. It's a power play goal on the one Nothing harshly at the 2 59 mark of this one Sean Kubelik with the helpers and that's the way it remains through one period, although Nashville certainly gained a whole lot of Mo mentum through the latter stages of that period, outshooting the Hawks 17 80 carried over to start the second Hawks able to kill off a David camp holding call, But shortly after that expired, Nashville kept the pressure on and got the equalizer into the hot zone trending down the left wing. He shoots Ours. Yaakov Trenin. Got hold of a pass as he entered the hot zone down the left wing. He fired from near the bottom of the left wing circle past Suban and we're tied at one.

He had trouble with the park and we're gonna get an offside rule here against the Panthers as horn question Kubelik were battling for the puck at the hot blue line. Kubelik has really got some energy and in this game here tonight, every time he's on the ice, he's a threat. Another could play. By him stopped up and tried to pass one all the way across too strong. Like what I'm seeing from Kubelik and this one really determined in what he has been. Doing out on the ice. Guy streaky. When he gets hot, he could put him in with regularity so far, has got too way. Didn't see one big wind up one big shot for him in the first three games. We've seen it several times in this one where he's really teed it up and let her fly a couple of good backhanders to Now I got six shots on goal so far, so that's what you want to see from dominant Kubelik. He's a shooter. You want to see shots on goal in the type of shots that he's getting. Here's Cain leading the charge into the Panther Zone down the right wing back and he's got cars. What a shot by Patrick Kane. Absolute backhand snipe over the shoulder of Bobrovsky with 49 seconds left in the second period, The Hawks have tied it. Three. The precision shooting of Patrick Kane is just something absolutely marvelous. Brodsky's got no chance and sorry, Riley Stillman. Why not ripped from the right circle boy, If you give him enough chances, he's gonna like the lamp and he did what a blast with a minute and 20 seconds to go in the period. The Hawks get back to within one. And Carter. Bomb of Blackhawks dot com. Tweeted out this note with that goal by Kubelik, A Blackhawks have a power play Sally in four straight games to open the year that something has been accomplished since another shortened season, the most recent shortened season. Beside from last year, the 2013 campaign, which the Blackhawks were able to school on the man advantage, the first four games of the year Wall, Mark and Keith with the helpers there, Keith had a Couple of assists the other night, he adds Another here tonight, Blackhawks were out shot 10 to 8 in that opening period and shots from the slot seven shots on this lot from the Florida Panthers, Compared to just two for the Blackhawks. You out attempted the cat's 18 to 17 face offs. Once again, it's a continuing trend. It's 50 50 pew suitor by the way. "In on goal, lengthen and down to stop it with the stick as the horn sounds ending played period one so the Panthers will take a 2 to 1 lead into the dressing room. After one period of play and pretty spirited action between the two teams. I mean, the each team scored on a power play and Kuba leaks drive. By the way we get another look at that that hit Stillman in the visor. So fortunately for that visor who do you think about the alternative? Yeah. He was standing right in front of the net. And Mike was kind of flattering a little bit on Kubelik and he just let her go teed it up right after he got an initial shot there, and the second one went in a little bit of a lucky bounce, but the Blackhawks could use that to their advantage. Moving into the second period. Good response down to nothing Only down by one, so they're right back in this one. You got to tighten up a little bit defensively in their own end of the ice. We've been saying that they need to test Bobrovsky a little bit on a more regular basis shots on goal. In that first period. We're 10 to 8 in favor of Florida based sauce like we talked about 50% on the No. On the On the button. 10 wins 10 losses, so not a bad period, but it's still waiting for an opportunity this season to be in control and in the lead. So the Blackhawks got their work cut out for him. But right back into it. Now, with that Kubelik power play goal, by the way, Lucas Walmart should pick up the primary assist on that goal by Kuba Leak. That came late in the period. And for Lucas Wall Mark if he doesn't pick up the assist, that'll be his first Blackhawks point, So we'll see anyway to one in favor of the Florida Panthers. The path increased. 12 24 left in the second to nothing for it. That's a good play by Kubelik to stop up there. Good shot by Duncan Keith, but with no traffic in front of the Madison Easy, safe. For Chris drinker. If you're the Blackhawks, you look at the Florida Panthers coming in here. They didn't play the first two games. They're scheduled to be against Dallas. So this is their first game. You've got a goaltender that hasn't played a whole lot. Their number one guy Bobrovsky not available to the team as it stands right now, and they haven't tested him. I was winded walking from the 18th floor elevator into the studio here, so it doesn't take much doesn't take much for me these days. But We're finally back playing some hockey and even if it's against the defending Stanley Cup champions, even if this black Hawks team comes out at the outset, facing some challenges here, I'm really super pumped an excited just Just to have hockey back just to have Black Hawk hockey back and seeing how where this team is at the start and seeing how it is able to evolve over the course of the upcoming season with AH, hole A whole lot of new faces in the lineup. Who are some of the guys that you have been most impressed with? Because you've been out there and practice every day alongside myself and grant. It's only been a week. Observing this stuff, but who are some of the guys? And and some of the young guys in particular. You may have been impressed with through observation here. Well, I think that you look at what Hughes suitor up front. I think that he's done really good, and he's not a young guy. You know, he's 24. I think he is there somewhere in that area kind of Samos, dominant Kubelik when he came in last year, they both played in the same league and both were MVPs two years ago. Scuba league this year was suitor. Just like your game, and he's He's a goalscorer, but he's a completely different type of gold's courts than Kubelik. Kubelik is a shooter and boy, we saw the shot last year. I mean, how wicked it wasn't once he figured out how we could use it where he could find those open areas. He became that much more of a threat. Suitor is more of a guy I see. That is a grittier type of player as far as the way that he scores goals, getting in front of the net and creating screens looking for those rebounds, So I think he's been very noticeable. Early on here in the training camp and courage. Seven is another guy. I thought he played really well last night in the scrimmage between the The red and the white and Jeremy Collins and actually singled him out along with Ian Mitchell on the blue light, so current chef and suitor up front. I think that they really done a nice job and making the coaches and the general manager noticed them, and that's what you have to do on the back side. I think that you've got a couple of guys that have looked pretty good. And and Mitchell has. He's kind of commitment and been who he was touted to be Just a smooth skating guy that when he gets the punky is really good that where you move forward with this is once you get to be a real good test, playing in your own end against good players, and when it gets physical in front of the net, the corners those battles it makes a big difference between scrimmaging between your own team. And a team that is the same motives you and has to win games and wants to win. Get points in the standings. So I think he had Mitchell is that an excellent job on by a lot of people are talking about Nicholas Bohdan, and he's a guy that really didn't factor into the equation. Do you see that last name again? Bow down, bow, But okay, I'm gonna say it a bunch of different ways. Just know Dana's not voted not voted not vote. It is not a relative of yours. Um, French Canadians. Um Remote East s. Oh, it's bow down, but, you know, And actually I was reading an article and not too long ago that where he was talking about that he put on, you know, 10 or £11 during this offseason, just training hard working hard. He's not a big guy, so he needs to get stronger, eh? So he doesn't get pushed off the park. So he's taking a nice step there and If I say those two guys on defense in the two up forward, maybe have made the biggest impression of some of the new guys. I'm really I'm really interested in seeing with the combinations that Jeremy has has put together to start things. Nikita's the door. I've got back to practice today, which was it was great to see it and just putting some of these younger guys with a more veteran guys in granite, the door office still a very young player. Was still some some potential to reach. But you know Keith and Murphy as your number one pairing, But then you know, putting Mitchell with a Calvin don. And then seeing how you know is the door ALF can work with and protect Adam Bull question. Try to bring the most out of his game. To me, That's going to be fascinating. As this Black Hawk treat team just tries to solidify itself in its own and something that has been elusive the last couple of years and let's face it, they're going to have to rely more on The team and the defense first mindset to start this season two. You know, John and I. It's a great point, Chris John they were talking about on the broad chest. What do you look at the Blackhawks winning in 10 13 15 the star power that they had the talent that.

"Been a steel. I mean, he is a big kid. He can move his feet. He's a great skater. He's got skill, scored the overtime game winning goal against The Colorado Avalanche to get this first seed if he didn't score that goal, maybe the Blackhawks would be playing the ads in the first round. But he is a force out there, and he's on the third line so very dangerous depth from The Vegas team, and they reviewed that game winning goal to see if Alec Martinez may have been offside on that Russian The officials determined that it was inconclusive goal was awarded. Vegas won the Siri's one. I should say won that game and was the only undefeated team Of the round robin teams in the West. You're the Golden Knights attacking stone to center ice except the Ottawa Senators, firing it down the glasses behind the hawk net, but circles and to the right wing corner to Carlson to patch you ready right wing boards. McNab picks it up and moves it out to center ice patch ready. The Hawk line. Had the puck batted away, but Schmidt takes it back, enters the Hawk zone to the left circle. Overstates the puck for a moment, tried to center and branded sadly to stick in the passing lane. Take the puck away Dominic Kubelik over the Centre Circle, and he'll lift a slow one into the right wing corner in the Vegas only get off on a chain. Golden Knights, get the puck back..

"Here's Chris Bolton. I'm not going anywhere for 28 minutes or so a little bit of an abbreviated postgame show. Here is we lead you up to White Sox baseball, and hopefully some of the Blackhawks Mojo can rub off on the pale hose is they take on the Kansas City Royals tonight after the Hawks Open the qualifying round with a game won 6 to 4 victory over the Oilers in Edmonton hoped to bring you some live postgame reaction via zoom from Edmonton. As well over the course of the next half hour. But for the here and now let's jump on a couple more minutes down the hallway with Troy Murray in the Wind Trust Blackhawks broadcast booth We talked about in the second period Joy, you can say what you will about Ah power play that seemed rejuvenated against a penalty kill that was ranked third in the league. So stick taps to the power play for coming through three times. But by and large over the course of this 60 minutes, the Blackhawks really earned this one by, you know. Ah, picking up their lunch pails getting some elbow grease on and keeping the puck off the stick of Edmondson superstars. When they weren't on the power. They did an excellent job in all of the areas. I thought it may be a little bit. Ah, slow start for the Oilers top players, and maybe they focus a little bit too much waiting for that opportunity to get something done on the power play. I mean, Conner mc David, in my opinion was kind of quiet. In this game, but he had four points. He was minus two, but he had four points in this game. So you know, I mean, I think you need him to be more dominant when the game is on the line and the Blackhawks. Whoever was out there against him. It didn't look like there was any kind of a specific match up that Jeremy Collinson was looking for against Connor McDavid's responsibilities. We're gonna have to fall on everybody out there. You know, maybe when you have that opportunity when they become the home team's in Games three and four, Um you Khun gets a match ups right off the face off, but that was up to David Temple today. Coach of the orders. Tio kind of dictate the matchups off the face off. So the black Ox did an excellent job and taking away the skill of the top players five on five, keeping them quiet. The goaltending was excellent. They forced the issue offensively at the far side of the ice away from Corey Crawford. A lot of pressure on Mike Smith. They did an excellent job on the power play that look good against the ST Louis Blues looked extremely Confident in this game against the events in Oilers. I mean the order scored three power play goals, but sort of the Blackhawks. Dominic Kubelik, who right now is addressing me along with Brandon Side, we'll hear from them. In a couple of moments. But what is dominant Kubelik say no in his playoff debut when he gets five goals, goals and three assists, the only player in the history of the NHL To score five points in his playoff debut. If you look at the other guys that have done that in a black cock uniform mush March Max Bentley, Stan Makita, Steve Larmer back in 90 And Jonathan. Dave's been, um all those simple and dominant Kubelik. Women on DA. Oh, by the way, his contract is up to, But we won't work about that right stand moment wasn't watching this game, and neither was right. Exactly. So, ah, And actually, from my point of view, I thought Dominic kind of had a quiet training camp. Hey, came back and you know he was worried about not being able to pick off pick up where he left off. Scoring 30 goals in in whatever was 70 games or 68 games, because he was a healthy scratch a couple of times, but all points no pun intended to him for coming back in. You know, we saw a glimpse of it the other night against the ST Louis Blues and the exhibition. But, man Oh, man, not not a bad return for 1/5 round Rafic. No, you gotta like the returns you get in here and again. I've said this before, If anybody if Jeremy call it in. If Stan Bowman, if anybody Penciled in dominant Kubelik for 30 goals in his rookie season. They're lying and for for somebody say, Oh, yeah, he's going to just heat it up assumes he gets into the playoff action here with five points that that's not happening. So for Dominic Cooper leak to do what he did. He just did here this afternoon against the avatars is pretty incredible. Any which way you look at it mean five points to power play goals. He had three assists. He just was dominant every time that he was out there on the ice, and and I think that even going in that game against the ST Louis Blues Jeremy Collinson had Dominic Kubelik for most of training can't playing with Kirby, Doc and Drake Casula, but for whatever reason? He had a hunch that he was going to switch him back up. Put him with Dave's and Brandon Saad played really well in that game against the ST Louis Blues turns around here and gets five points in this one, and every line for the Blackhawks were effective in this one. I thought Kirby Doc was Really dominant when he was out there now when he had the party was great Drake Jola is doing what he does Best and Alex to brink. It had some good looks in this game, too. So the combinations that Collinson has put together right now look pretty solid. And if they keep playing like that they're going to get some results. Just know that the event in Oilers are now going to be a little bit ticked off and they have a better understanding of how hard they're going to have to come and work so You win the first game. You put that in the bank. That's all you want to do in the playoffs. Each game takes a life of its own. You've got to come right back here against the Mets owners next game and set the table and establish your game again. That's ah, one of the wonders of technology in this modern day of age, even though we're not able to cover the Games live. We are. Well, they're jumping on the zoom press conferences and Dominic Cuba leak and right now, Brandon Saad addressing the media right now, overall today. Next question goes to John Deeds. Go ahead, John. My brain and I'm talking about takes a little bit earlier in the season about guys can have a hot week off, even hot year. Um and he said no guys like that can be their flashes in the pan sometimes on the go on, But that doesn't seem to be the case with Dominic. They're what impresses you the most with him other than just his gold story ability. Well, I think overall is a player where it protects the puck. So while it creates chances, obviously you can see how you.
