"To pay for it. This was your trip like you. You took her on this trip. It was was implied that you were paying for the hotel. And everything like the you. You're paying for the trip. Yeah i pay for everything. And and honestly i think they're a little bit. Gambling gave her a little bit of money to gamble with okay so you i'm taking to vegas. I'm paying for this thing. But now all of a sudden she's got this new found six grant and like doesn't even like i feel like i'm a little petty right now but like doesn't even buy me a drink like how can can we go out like and like i feel like i feel bad asking for like. Hey can you maybe treat me to an ident- right. You know what i mean. So at the end of the trip or throughout the trip she has offered to pay for anything at the end of the trip. She doesn't pay for anything now. Your home and as the topic of the six thousand dollars come up at all. Not at all gets messed up is with the at the very least if i win six thousand dollars on a weekend trip with my significant other at and i wasn't going to pay at the very least i'll be i'll pay for the trip or a large portion of it. Maybe the rest of it goes to me after that. But i would at least make that my winnings worth your while to like your vacation changes after that you win. Six grand unity. Some upgrades and stuff like that. At least i'm going to say. I won six grand so i can pay for the weekend in vegas cost couple grand whenever i'm gonna i'm at least gonna pay for that and then you get something out of it and then i still four grand to walk away with. I'm making these numbers up. But instead she was like cool. I won six grand and then and then you paid for everything exactly and like honestly he picked up this situation where reverse and i won. The money wouldn't even be a question. Of course i because you're paying for everything already doubt that you were going to pay for everything already so it's not like this is a massive inconvenience on your part because you are scheduled that out for every consideration said the same thing but it's a consideration thing and i totally agree you. She could have done a lot of things with that money and still walked away with the profit for herself. Rubio i mean you guys all know. I'm pretty stingy when it comes to money and if i work if that was my situation i wouldn't six grand i would be i d ball i i would. I'd probably wouldn't leave with any money. Just go spend it on right now. You can have this crazy vegas. Yeah on your wife pray yeah of course okay cool camera. I think is super rude. The it's like this money does it. First of all she use part of the least she could have done is paid you back for the money that you gave it a gamble that helped to win the scr. The very least she could have done that not to mention pay for this trip and still walked away with money that she didn't have before. What in credit card debt or something. I mean if i were her i would have split in fifty fifty. But i'm not her. What if she is like six grand screw. You don't care he. He didn't pay the bill at this guy's phone in debt. Now i mean she could have communicated that eight five five five nine one one three. I don't think we need any else thing else from cameras. I got the story. So basically he's i don't know where he went but he's he's bent because and i would be to me. I'm not sure. If i would say anything about it but i would definitely judge a person if they want a bunch of money did nothing not didn't step forward on anything for any of the at least buy me a couple of dinners. Maybe go buy me a gift. Look if you went and bought me a really nice gift. I might forget about the fact that you had won six grand. Just been happy that. I got something i didn't have before i had forgotten about the rest of it. Kristie what if he makes a ton of money though. What if he is super wealthy and she's like oh well he doesn't need this you know. Feel free money though it's unanticipated money that she could it. I don't know little gesture would have gone a long way for me. At least by me even if i if i i've taken people vacation before if i take you on a vacation i paid for the whole thing and it's and it's it's already Assumed or i invite you so it means everyone knows. I'm paying for it if you bought me. If the trip cost a thousand dollars on making this up if you want me one hundred dollars dinner. I would feel shock. I would think that would be so generous. Like i'd be like that was so thoughtful of you to do that. Because you know that the whole thing was paid for so even though it's completely disproportionate. The amount of money is spent a houston. I still would have been like. That was really cool that you did. That doesn't like them that much. I mean he paid for the whole trapping. She even offer to pay for dinner. I don't think she likes his guy. Hey katrina the table. When he was sleeping or something tried to double it up and it's gone be like dead or something like that. Yeah just tell me. I look at somebody with major credit card debt. And she's like well. I just wanna expand can pay pay down the credit card debt. I would be like if i like this. I mean like that's great. Good go do that but instead it's like the money never came. So what's she doing with it. I would tell my fiancee like my mom is the type of person where like about that type of counseling. Deal to like you know the money. I won't discuss it. It's whatever maybe like bad things. But i really wanted to suck me but i think he should bring it up there her be like. I don't know an awkward. I veered thank you. Thank you have a great day. You realize you call the. I love you. Thanks for listening. Hi allie. hey guys. I had the same experience for my twenty first birthday actually My dad paid for the entire trip ended up flying. His girlfriend out gave her money to gamble. Anti one thousand dollars. Not as much as the other girls. That's money in vegas and he didn't even pay for like a cab ride. I was thinking it's a berry. Feast pit for dinner. Ready offer a nice lunch. Or whatever cost a couple boxes like the the you still walked away with eight hundred dollars that you didn't have before and everyone everyone feels like these sheridan and even know its disproportionate. Everyone feels like shared it up. But because you don't do it you looking super selfish and went back. I like my dad had given her money to gamble so it wasn't even harmonica booth back at least be like. Here's your you know. Use your initial back. Or whatever right. So i do feel for this guy. Thank you allie. Thank hi.

"It's like a traditional your traditional. Right and i know i just i. I've worked too early. I knew it. I knew it tried to have your back now. I gotta be out. He has no excuse he could take me. You know what i knew it. I knew it. Which is why. I this is my position i knew it. I thought she was just like the man should take care. Mellow sheet okay. She's flexing to see how much power she has relationship and he's doing everything he's doing everything she says. And that's what you ultimately want is for him to do what you say. I don't drive to work. I just walk. What would have to go to work at my car. Autism having to do anything. Drive me to know my your. You're you're saying that your process does it lend itself to getting him home. That's my argument to is at my process at four o'clock in the morning doesn't lend itself to me having the time and i explain that ahead of time but what you're saying is that his process now must include because it didn't previously the same way yours does it but his process now must include accommodating you at any time of the day. That's what you're saying now. Yes he doesn't work. So i can take me. You get all the benefits. And he doesn't you can't based on his work. That's unfair. I mean listen if you can work at four in the morning no most people don't so so no okay if it was saturday. Didn't work that day and she worked at five. Am or six am. You would take kurt. I will tell you something else again. You know what you can say about me. That i'm not. I have sisters in a mom. I think i'm very thoughtful with them. I'm capable of being very thoughtful. But i do look for women who are independent. I look for women who tend to come up with solutions for herself themselves. I do like that. That i'm unwilling to care for someone i am. I think that's something for me. That comes a little friendly relationship. I think i have to sort of warm up to you. And i think it's something that i don't expect from you. You shouldn't expect it from me. And then as we if i if i'm dating you i really care about you then i'll get there. You need to gain a trust. That's the thing with you. That take advantage of you so i think like once the trust is there and you know their intentions and what kind of person you don't wanna be tested told but you're happy exactly. Yeah i i wanna be the one who brings. That's the table. i. I sometimes tend to date people. Who they they. Tell me what i have to do. And then when. I don't do it i'm falling and it's like wait a minute. These are things that i should want to do. And you should let me want to do them And so. I like that. And i don't but i also like somebody who gets up in the morning and says i'm going to figure this out. You know what i mean. Like i i don't need. I don't need you to do everything for me. i. I have a plan here. I'm somewhere in between you two. I'm not very i find that by myself. I find that. Really directive. I find for me and then i think you know in time. Yes i think i would learn to care for someone to do those things and and make and start and start to change my routines but i am not doing it on day. Two or three not. You made his man wake up early to make you coffee and then take you to work. Make him make me coffee. He chooses to do that and then he also choose today. Offered to take the train and he said no. I'm going to take you to do do that. I do wonder though. And i'm not i'm not. I am giving you a hard time. I'm not judging you. But how did he know to get up and make you coffee at four forty five unless you drop that hint. How did he know to do that. I wouldn't i wouldn't necessarily think unless somebody told me. They wanted coffee at four forty five in the morning. I don't know that. I would necessarily know to wake up and go. Let me go through you some coffee. You know what i mean. I don't yeah. that's you know. My husband does that. He wakes up half an hour and she goes to dunkin to get her drives back very long but he did that. Ever since i stay the night that's the kinda gave coffee in the morning. I do. I think you did. I probably did. She does not listen to this radio program city lessons or he listens. There's no way he's not changing all his precepts in suv like nope. Nope not not this station. I have different love. languages probably indifferent. I get that service. So that makes sense and mine's words of affirmation. I get that. I know i've done the most talking here even though i think everybody agrees with me but anyway i don't know i just i just think you know i don't know for me very attractive for someone to let me decide on my own to do nice things and and to take care of herself. that capability then as opposed to this is what's going to happen. You know you're going to get was going to happen. I offered to take the train. I offered to drink coffee offer. It was it. they were ball fake offers. I gotta take the train also looking to put on the channel right here in the morning. Walk and then go on. I'm not gonna put you on a train in the morning. But i'm also probably going to tell you. Hey look i live i live. Yeah i've got to tell you if you want to spend the night that's wonderful. I'm i'm really happy about that. But i'm getting up at this time and this is what i have to do in the morning. Just heads up the heads up on this one now. If it's a saturday and we wake up at like whatever time we're going to have breakfast. I'm not going to get a breakfast. I'm gonna drive you. Home could have time to do all the time in the world. I don't in the morning. I don't am i gonna do it. I don't expect anything wink. I do Waiting by the phone. We'll do it three five by putting the winter studios in america's greatest city chicago. That's forty five so he works up at four forty five. He wakes up at four hundred. Four you not because he would normally does that for you to make your coffee. Then he drives me to work then he gets no and then he goes home and goes back to bed. Yeah think he stays awake and he starts working whatever he does whatever because they just now we just mad so i don't really know what he does but i think that's like the normal thing in a relationship when you're dating someone they also wake up in the morning with you know i don't i don't demand that if anybody if i'm dating somebody i do everything in my power to make sure that they don't i i. I'm the guy that doesn't even. I don't snooze. I like tiptoe. I'd i don't use the hairdryer. And i do everything in my power to see to it that they're not affected by my screwed screwed up schedule okay. But if not making her to work early would you take her to work. If she stayed at your place he would take her to work. That's what i would do that every day no. I don't think i would has to wake up as well. Yes before his scheduled. Wake up time to take someone else to work. You've gotta be kidding me. No way if i if. I had to wake up at the same time in drive and i had the time i would do it. I get out of bed and i tell i tell everybody. If you're gonna spend the night. I get out of bed moments before i have. I squeeze every second out of sleeping. And so i'm not going to have time to tell people you'd welcome to spend the night i i'm not gonna have time to drive you home in the morning just so you know i'll get you a number and make sure you get home the whole thing but like no. I'm not getting out of bed thirty minutes earlier because that's my deal. During the week. We get up at ungodly hour on the weekend. Maybe but not during the week. Now you sleep with someone the next day they have to drive you home. They have to take home. That's the rules have to at the beginning. Though it would be nice. I could see a guy wanting to drive you to work for sure. But when i was in a relationship getting up early i did the same thing. I was like a little mouse. I would lay my clothes out just because you don't want to disturb their sleep. But at the beginning i do understand why he would wanna drop you off in. Put his best foot forward. I think that's cute. I a romantic. Believe it or not. I'm just a little more conventional. It's like any other thing if date for a little while then you could say in my house like if if i get up if you're staying in my house and then i get up legal. Then stay in. Leave the door locks behind you. I'm fine with that too. But we gotta we gotta be dating for a little while. I'm saying you don't have to have a key the meaning you can leave whenever you want and you don't have to worry about locking up or anything. I'm just your advice on this fred. You wouldn't even give me a sweatshirt if i slept with you. Would you have to give back to me though. Luckily won't have to worry about that. So i'm a question. What kind of car does he drive. What asks you really i. Just i had normal car loving. I see and maybe just maybe maybe my problem is. I wouldn't ask anyone to do that for me especially early on. If i stayed at a girl's house i would get my ass out of bed and figure out a way to get to work. And she took him up. But now it's every single day your expectation now and this after four days you got her. You got this guy doing the most after four days i just. I'm a little afraid. The intensity here just because somebody will do. It doesn't mean that you make them do it. If you sleep we someone yes. They drive you home the next day. That's the rules. If i sleep with you you're driving me. What wow like if i if there's interaction. I fully expect you to take me home. If i don't have my car on me. You should always offer. I do agree with you. Sometimes i wouldn't take it. But i think if he's offering it's on him and you're taking him on it and i think it's okay for i don't think it's sustainable for him forever But you know at the beginning. I think it's okay. I think it's sweet. I don't know fred. I think is a lot going on real real real fast fan. I think you know. I think it's nice that he's offering to understand is nice and he's offering i think you should. I think you should if you want to spend the night at his house that i think at some point you. You're out your own way to work. How rain early october one. If he stays at your place you live a block away from the radio station in the morning and come back or you make him find his way home that one..

"Phases of the moon. So the suns more of an external representation of the life outside of you and the Moon's more of a reflection of what's going on inside of you. So. When we talk about soul flames, we initially immed- immediately jump to the conclusion that are sold. Flame is external that were missing something already were not good enough, and that's the biggest misconception. When you when you believe in yourself when you learn to spend time with yourself and here's what here's the key. Here's the trick is that when you find the soulmate within? You will find it externally. So the soulmate means externally someone that's on the same page with you. You guys are two peas in a pod. And you're you're you want to go in life in the same direction and you don't have the hassles? So they they are respectful to you. They love you. They validate you. That's what you should be striving. That's what you should be waiting for. But then only comes to you when you do that with your stuff and it's about listening from the heart and and learning to love yourself and when you love yourself when you validate yourself when you take real good care of yourself, you're like a magnet. Comes right to you. You don't have to look for love love comes to you, and that's the great part about that and it's not you're missing anything in life you have everything already. When you feel you're missing something when you don't want to spend time with yourself, then you're out chasing love and some I was when I was when I was younger, I thought maybe love was in at the grocery store maybe church or maybe at the bar or maybe around the corner. Maybe driving next to me stuck in traffic you know and. It wasn't that I was missing connection externally. It was that I was missing the connection from within and now that I. Have recognized that I already have everything it's like a cup. Cup is full. That's the love that you get others when Your Cup is full. That's the the money the help the assistance you give to others, but you must first have your your cup full. Am We have been taught to approach relationships with these empty cups or maybe a half cup is is is filled halfway and we think we're going to fill each other's tops and it doesn't work that way. If you don't have any money, how can you give money to others if you don't have love I already within how can you then give loved others and so it takes time. To go back within the find yourself. So very good. Very good. Question Kristie I I. I hope that answers that a little better but You know we..

First climate change, now COVID-19: Tips for managing the stress
"Of Choosing HOPE IN TIMES OF CRISIS. I'm NPR. Chief meteorologist Paul Hutler. Here with climate cast in the past few years many psychologists reports seeing patients with physical and emotional impacts from climate change. Now I had cove nineteen and it's easy for some of us to feel overwhelmed even hopeless at times but mental health professionals say hope can be an effective antidote to climate and Cova Nineteenth Stress Kristie white as a clinical psychologist practicing in the twin cities. Hi Christie welcome to climate cast. Hypothe- thank you for having me. You recently wrote about this for the nonprofit climate news website. Nci what kind of emotions are patients feeling with climate change? Many young people are expressing concern about whether to have children what their careers might even look like. I'll also talk with people who are experiencing a sense of loss so noticing. Some of the environmental changes in the places where they use to Spend time enjoy nature. Climate change is really a magnifying of health equity and health disparities. So those are some of the things that people of color are coming in expressing concerns about. Cristiano WANTS REMEMBER READING SOMEWHERE. That action cures fear can acting to face. Your climate fears have positive benefits. Yes absolutely I love that quote. A very common reaction to fear is avoidance. This is kind of a typical survival response but one of the problems with fat is does exacerbate our fear and our anxiety by teaching us at the only way we can cope with it is is running away from it one of the things that. I am frequently helping people with is developing some courage and the emotional stamina to face their fear so that they can turn something previously was may be experienced as a threat that needed to be avoided or escaped from into a challenge that is capable of being faced. I love that you talk about choosing hope. How can we do that and make it feel productive in real? So it's more than just a temporary attitude. One of the key pieces to being able to choose hope as I acknowledging and making space for those difficult emotional experiences viewing them as inherently valuable and useful data points that. Tell us that. There's something happening that matters to us. Kristie my job. I feel like at least I'm doing the work on climate. I think it helps me deal with my apprehensions. What other tools our advice? Can you give our listeners? For dealing with climate change or other emotions they might be feeling right now. Identify what is within your control acknowledged. What's within your control? And maybe even start thinking creatively about how you define. What's in your control? So for example if if you need to develop skills to manage something effectively think about how something might be able to come within your realm of control or influence by cultivating those skills or developing that resource capacity. Self-care is key which means getting good sleep getting physical activity eating healthy setting limits on the amount of information. That's coming in and being very self aware and adjusting your approach based on that awareness
Travel to Costa Rica
"To the amateur traveler. I'm your host Chris Christensen before we get into this week's episode. I do want to say something about the corona virus epidemic. Which is what's going on as I record this. I also put this in the amateur traveler facebook group but I know that. Not all of your in there. I want you to know what my plan is. So many of you I am sheltering in place and I am not traveling because it's the right thing to do these days but I won't be blogging and podcasting about coveted Nineteen Ama- traveler. I'm not a medical expert. You don't need my opinion. We did do one episode of this week and travel. Because it's news but that's really all I'm going to do about this and I'm really of the opinion that this will get better. I don't know how long but sometime we will get back to work. And things will return to normal and travel will return to normal whatever normal looks like and so. I'm going to be looking ahead. I'm going to be helping you dream of better days. I know for some of you. That's not what you're looking for now. If you unsubscribe because this isn't the right time for you to be thinking about travel no problem. I understand but that's what we're going to be doing here and I just didn't want to catch you by surprise it's not that I'm totally clueless about what's going on that being said. Let's talk about Costa Rica. I'd like to welcome the show. Sam and Jason. From my ten feet dot com who've come talk to us about Costa Rica Salmon and Jason. Welcome to the show. Hello Chris Thank you for having us and Salmon Jason our friends. I think we met in Philippines on a press trip. I WANNA say ten years ago so I don't remember exactly when we met the first time but someone actually pitched me doing Costa Rica but two of the bloggers that I know. Who are the experts on? Costa Rica Are Salmon? Jason and they make a living basically from this and from helping people figure out what to do in Costa Rica's so let's start with the obvious. Why should someone go to Costa Rica? Costa Rica offers a lot of things to do for people who want to experience nature because Costa Rica's known as a very ECO friendly sustainable destination. It's very green country in every sense of that word yes exactly. They protect over twenty five percent of their land actually in so for anyone who wants to experience nature whether they love I watching or hiking or even a beach vacation to see a volcano experienced rainforest particularly has got it all in that sense and when it comes to countries in Central America Latin America is very safe. It's very popular for travelers in the US in now more in Europe and they're very friendly people in they're very welcoming so Costa Rica's even a destination for people who have never been outside traveled internationally because of the excellent. And what kind of are you going to recommend for someone who let's say it's their first time in Costa Rica? I most people they land in San Jose. International Airport in this is because this is the biggest international airport so they have more flights schedules. And then for the first time itinerary something I would really recommend is and then you go to Fortuna I in La. Fortuna is a city what they call northern lowlands and it is home to the. Arina volcano very close to lake are now which is the biggest man-made Lake in Costa Rica and also a lot of rainforest around and so a lot for tonight is known as the adventure capital of Costa. And you can do pretty much all the adventures you could once. They're so whitewater rafting canyoning zip-lining very popular hiking because of the rainforest is nature. There's a lot of wildlife can see a lot of birds monkeys and floss and it's a very good destination for families or for Solo travelers. Because you find everything from ten dollars. Abed a night till eight hundred dollars a night so you have super budget to the super luxury. We'll I in. This is what we did when we were in Costa Rica. The first time you didn't stop us in San Jose to do anything and that is pretty typical for Costa Rican itineraries. Well craze the reason why well Waco streak is. We don't do that well. Actually the government is trying to make the capital Prettier Bad the truth is that the traffic is terrible. Whenever you work the tourism industry you don't one on a generic going through San Jose because traffic jams are getting very bad. I believe that every single city on the world is having this problem so ideas or packages that you find like San Jose jewel probably stay one or two nights and then you might see one or two activities on the whole day and I will say the main reason is the traffic well and I was not surprised that you did not suggest that but I did want to point it out because somebody may be looking at an itinerary that somebody else creates for them and I wanted them to know the difference. Well now that you mentioned that this is actually something that I have noticed. Recently especially with people from Mexico. We got a lot of direct flights from Mexico in a notice that a lot of Mexicans in some sense they liked to stay in San Jose and they do a lot of one day. Trips is a lot of time on the buzz things that I don't actually recommend by opinion is a waste of time. I mean if you WANNA go to a game is not fun to spend four hours in the boss three hours and then go back for our sped. Believe it or not. This is a new thing we saw last year so meant that I was with a lot of people asking in. Actually we work with companies that do one day tours and many people they liked to be in bosses nowadays. I don't know whoever's listening to this podcast if you love to stay in a positive things house in one day trips but we don't recommend you to do that. The only things that I can think of that are close enough that I would do that. As there's a couple of the coffee plantations that I think are close and the river rafting in that area is fairly close to center. Say but I can't think of anything else that I really would want to see in Costa Rica. That San Jose would be where I would base myself. I think it's a lot of people they come to Experienced two major because it doesn't really sell itself it city city life economic in the city. They do have some nice cultural sites. They have a national theatre. They have a few really nice museums. But it's so small. It's not a big city so honestly see the city in a day and you can go to the neighborhood. That has a lot of good restaurants. You can get really good feel for in just one day and you don't need more than that really as if you were in New York City Madrid or not as much to do which I think is part of the reason why a lot of Timorese. Un in San Jose many sleeve. Right away yeah. I don't think I've been in San Jose. Costa Rica twice. So yeah so unless if you are dying like really really keen on experiencing city life you really don't have much time and something to mention Kristie. You mentioned the Quad River. Which is the most popular Whitewater rafting? The we have here in Costa Rica. A lot of people what they do is they take that tour as a way of transportation so for example. If you're planning to go to La Fortuna or you're planning to three Korean site so he's very very very common people book the Touri- Apple say but they ask to be drop off either for tuna or decree inside or they can bring you back to say but that will save you now your dad with many other attractions if you go to well. In this case the EPA quad as is closer Korean site. So from that location you can go through two different locations so the Costa Rican tourism industry. They know that so. What they do is is that it's transferred tour with four or five hours activities. Very bubbler any works very well here. Sure can do. The two are from laugher tuna or the Caribbean works. Both ways so very much like you can take a whole day for instead of traveling traveling in rafting
A Message of Hope Series: Dave Ramsey, Rachel Cruze, Ken Coleman
"It's just a hard time in our culture right now certainly in the United States and for that matter around the world so the first thing we wanna tell you this I'm old you can tell I've been there and we're GonNa get through this. You're okay going to work out. I was there when Y. Two K. Was going to end the world and it didn't and businesses went crazy and jobs were amiss and the economy was crazy and I was there after nine one one. Some of you weren't born yet understand but there was a time there that we really worried in America and we grabbed hands and we were unified but the stock market took us on a ride and the economy took us on a ride. I've been through a couple of flu. Breakouts of different names and people were scared. Nothing like this particular virus or scared. Everyone but I've watched a lot of people be sick. And it's it's a sad time in America in that regard went through two thousand seven two thousand and eight and I did one hundred seventy eight media hits and about seven days in those days because it was crazy and I was trying to tell people to calm down to not cash on everything and not abandoned. Hope because if you haven't noticed there is one thing more contagious than this virus. And it's fear it's airborne and people me you don't social distancing won't even help it's coming through your television screen. It's coming through. Your news feeds on your computer. It's coming from friends and relatives who normally were pretty level. Headed people better panicked right now or at least scared or at a minimum concerned. So just hear me loud and clear your okay. We're GONNA get through this twelve months from today. You can write it down right now and you can send me hate mail if you want if. I'm wrong but twelve months from today we're GONNA look back on this and go. Wow that was rough. We got through it the same thing. We said about those other calamities in crisis that I just outlined COUPLA principles that we're going to get into tonight number one is my friend. Art Laffer says no one makes good decisions when they're panicked or when they're drunk out some of your both some of your chosen one over the other. Some of you are just panicked or at just in a moment in time just in a five minute period of time you can become panicked and do something that takes years to get. Your family passed the mistake that you make while you're out of control. Your critical thinking skills. Just dissipate when you're panicked. You've got to calm down. Calm down our friend and other personality Dr John Bologna. He's a crisis counselor and he says when you're in a crisis facts are your friends facts or your friends and you have to control your input. What is coming into? Your brain is a continual news feed of fear. You watching the news channels. Twenty four seven. I gotTa tell you there's very few people have strong enough spiritual constitution to do that and not cave to the fear. I don't do that. I'm a part of that media. I'm on all the shows on all those stations. Those people are my friends that I I am not going to sit and feed my brain that all day long. My friends exemplary used to say when he was alive he said every morning i read the Bible and read the newspaper that way. I can tell what bowe shots are doing. So this is real. You got you have to control your inputs. And you have to have self control over your emotions when you're panicked. Some of you are You're just melting down. You've lose your ability to make good decisions other times. You're getting Maine and you're being nasty each other or your shaming people on your facebook page. Because they didn't do exactly what you thought they ought to do one way or the other but people that are normally nice people when they get in this funk emotionally or being very unkind some of. You've been unkind to your own family and you ought to be ashamed of yourself. So you've been unkind to someone in the drugstore because they walked across the Dadgum Blue Line and you lost. Your mind calmed down. We need a lot of generosity right now. The Bible says I'm a person of faith if you don't know in the Bible says Jeremiah. God says I've got a plan for you and it's not to bring you Har- it's to bring you hope. Hope IS GREATER THAN FEAR. But it's a choice and no one can take your hope and no one can steal your hope. You have to surrender it. That's what has to happen. Otherwise you're not there and Rachel we were talking about this idea of just having a little bit of grace in our lives and we were talking about what we're going to say tonight. Yeah Maher theme through tonight really about controlling the controllables and how key that is In this process and that includes your emotions and your grace for people Kristie Right. Here's another one of our Ramsey personalities. Were friends we're talking on the phone just last week when all this stuff was happening and she made a great point and she just had we just extend massive amounts of grace to people. Because you never know what someone else is dealing with right. Because I'm like there's the two extremes of how people are dealing with it it's either like this is all crazy. I'm going to do whatever I want. Or it's the ones that are all you know. They're they're freaked out to do anything and each side looks at each other and they just they they they spew shame and Hay and everything. And I'm like man you know no matter what side you're on look at the other side because both both need grace and I think that's really important to remember that with your friends. Your family It is a time just to say you know what they're handling things differently than I would But I'm going to just take a deep breath myself and extend that when we're talking about United Teaching Leadership. Sometimes we're in these different settings you know when people are under pressure. Sometimes it's just financial pressure. We're talking about sometimes. It's other things but when they're under pressure it's the the bad parts of their character revealed sometimes and sometimes the best parts of their character reveal and and you need to be real careful to control that. That's something you can control. Yeah I think you're speaking to influence here not just for leaders but for all of us that I love the point Rachel that you made about grace you know this is a time where in isolation when you are around just your friends and family That they're looking to you to see what your cues are. How are you handling all this uncertainty? How are you handling the bad news? You know matthew five fourteen Dave Rachel says you're the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Think that's a strong challenge to all of us to realize that in that verse. We realized that we have the opportunity in uncertainty. You could say dark times. We have the opportunity to be light as individuals as leaders. And we are all exposed in this. This is not a state crisis. This isn't a United States crisis. This is a global crisis and it is affecting everyone and each of us has a responsibility. David Rachel to realize that we are a city set on a hill in that we are doing life with some people closer than maybe we've been doing life with them in a long time due to this isolation and so it's really important as we get to this team tonight. What can you control? And we're GONNA talk through that tonight but really controlling Dave our response and there's going to be times where we all get squeezed and it reveals the ugly side of us and we all have the ugly side but we can choose this moment to say. Ooh I don't like that and I've got to change that because I am a light and I wanNA shine in uncertainty so I I think that's a wonderful challenge for all of us right

How can I source items for a toiletry kit and should I crowdfund?
"Hi Kristie Calling from Pittsburg California. I've been listening to your podcast. Since the very beginning I do have a side hustle that will love to start It would be basically a little toiletry bag that you would take with you especially going into puddles restrooms. I run into this problem many times where there was either no toilet paper. There was no soap. No paper towels. Not Toilet seat covers so I wanted to up a FIFA so basically with that in mind but the two main issues that I'm running into our Not Knowing where to product to get this started in the number two funding right now. I don't have the money to actually start this up so I didn't know a fight with that. Be An option for me to actually get. This started. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks so much. Thank you so much. Thanks for listening in California Pittsburgh California. I believe you said and thanks as well for sharing your idea. So here's what I think I think first of all you have a clear target market your market essentially as Dermot folks are. I don't mean that in any kind of negative way like I'm kind of Mild Germaphobe myself. I'm always carrying hand sanitizer with me. These days in the age of the corona virus or whatever comes next there are a lot of people concerned about being in public places and having to use the facilities show totally valid concern the challenges though I think the challenge with this idea a couple of things first of all. This seems like the kind of thing that would work if you could sell a lot of them like a lot of these kids tens of thousands. Because it's going to be kind of a low price thing or if you had some kind of unique advancement you're offering some kind of technological advancement or some kind of way to patch together that nobody's done before it needs to be something creative and difference in this case and if you heard me before say you know not. Everything has to be creative. Not Everything has to be innovative. That's totally true. But for something that's really basic value add. You have to remember that all important question that I often encourage people think about. How will I make money from this idea? Not Not a good idea or not. But how will I money from it and the items that you mentioned here Latisha so paper towels etc? Those are commodities. Right they're very cheap. So that's why feel like. Even though there is a market there needs to be a little bit more development with the product itself. If there was then I think that's where crowdfunding can be particularly attractive if you are able to come up with something some kind of answer to that. Here's white is technological advancement or some great improvement in the packaging of this or some unique application method of it. Whatever it that's where those kind of crowd funding campaigns takeoff so it's not just a matter of the psalm being greater than the parts. You know with those items. It's you know. What is the big picture? Promise pitch you know and prices like we've been talking about this week in the classroom series so in Short. I think you have the market right. I think maybe even something the market once you just need to think about you know. Why should they buy it from you? And how can you charge a premium price for those? Are The questions that you keep you up at night when thinking about this particular idea? I don't quite know what the answers are. So as I said that's my concern with just talking about sourcing whether you should crowd under night. I think it's a little bit more of a bigger picture issue. But of course let us know what you end up doing. I'm always happy to be wrong. So if that's the case That could end up being lesson of its own.
Sleep & Parenting with Therapist Christine Lawler
"Right. Everyone have Christie lawler here. And she is the peaceful sleeper. She's a marriage and family therapist and asleep specialist. She's passionate about helping MOMS feel more empowered in parenting and a huge part of that is getting some rest and I would argue just a huge part of feeling empowered in your life in general is getting some good rest so thank you so much for being here Kristie. I'm so excited for what you have to say in offer everyone listening listening so thank you. Thank you so much for having me. I'm excited yes so I'd love for you. I guess to kind of tell us in your own words. What exactly you do and how you got into to it? Yeah so I'm marriage and family therapists have been doing this for ten years. And even before I had babies I was realizing all the time that my clients that were the most stuck the ones that were the most depressed the most anxious the most annoyed with their spouses where it felt like nothing was really shifting. Those were the clients that had the biggest sleep problems and as an insomnia sufferer myself and a perfectionist. I hated that my answer would like. Oh yes sleep is hard Let's talk about the the real stuff and so I went ahead and I got trained to treat chronic insomnia and that's where I learned not surprisingly but kind of surprisingly that eighty eighty percent of people with mental health problems have underlying sleep issues. Wow which is so huge and I realize like oh my gosh. The key to mental health and wellbeing is getting good sleep and then fast forward. I had babies of my own and struggled with postpartum depression. But I knew ooh that it was because I was sleep deprived and then anyway fast forward. I delve into everything that could about sleep training. I kind of hated it as a therapist and like I said as perfectionist. I hated it that so many of the books in resources were very mom shaming. I felt like everything was very like fear. Fear driven. Like if you don't do it this way then you're crafty parent and then somebody else's like no no you don't do it this way. Then you're a crappy parent and I was like I wanna be a really good parent and I don't know how to do it but I know that I need sleep and I know that my baby needs sleep and so I kind of figured out my own method blending in all of them together and then I had another baby and it worked again and I was helping my friend sleep train. Their babies and I kind of realized like wait. Maybe I'm onto something that I can be voice in the space. That says sleep is really really really important. I research detachment for years. That's another thing that kind of drove me. Nuts is so many people were like fostering unhealthy sleep habits and the name of good attachment which just wasn't correct. I feel like a lot of moms now with all the resources versus. We have an all this stuff on the Internet. We can get really overwhelmed and kind of go into a rabbit hole of mom shame and fear and so anyway I just. I don't know I kind of realized that I wanted my voice in the space to help. MOMS feel empowered and really restore the the magic of motherhood. That comes when everybody is resting. Well 'cause like like that. I battled with postpartum depression and being tired tired and exhausted and looking at my sweet perfect little baby but not feeling that magic feeling guilty about it and I realized like the magic totally totally came back when I had good sleep
Fruit Tree Traps
"Tell me something with regards to fruit tree traps. To what extent can they help minimize Pest populations into what extent do we just use them for monitoring so it really depends on the size of the orchard that we're talking about For THOSE BACKYARD. Growers or small orchards than using these drops as mass trapping is the way to go Once you get up into the commercial orchards than it does require. We're talking thousands of traps. Which from a feasibility standpoint is. Just it's it's not economical But yeah but for the small grower than mass trapping is. It's quite quite productive of so it's great so this is a really productive way to do things so. I've gotTa tell you Kristie Not Too long ago. A few years ago I went to Pittsburgh and that was my first encounter of a trap in an or well in a little home orchard. This orchard was very messy. There was like there was lots of trees in a small place and there were. There was lots of disease. I think she had past problems too now. My I'm going to get you to put up a picture of a trap that I found in that Orchard. Now it put me off traps almost forever. It was seething with bugs dying. Oh my gosh. It was so sad to what it was like four. So you had this sort of bucket. And it was filled with dying insects and their larvae. So hopefully make is going to put that up for us. Can you tell me what kind of trap is that? And is this a good thing so so it looks like it's some kind of bucket trap And I don't know what exactly they're dropping four but it is a wonderful example of the importance of maintenance so you've got a trap your mass trapping you have to clean it. It's not something that you can just leave so what it looks like. Is it got full of flies. I'm assuming it was a fly trap of some kinds of probably had some kind of bait maybe east or something that was bringing the flies in and it just hadn't been emptied in awhile so what starts to happen is then suddenly. Goes from a place where you're trapping and killing the insects to a place where you're not creating this wonderful breeding grounds and so you can see the maggots rate. So the flies are starting their surviving there feeding on the king other flies and it becomes a nice little grounds for reproducing. Oh my gosh. That is incredibly counterproductive. Yes so can they. Crawl out of these unsuccessful Homemade or or these these fly traps. Can they crawl out and vetoing once you get past typically in those traps? They usually have some kind of liquid. And so it's usually a drowning situation that happens. They fall in the ground But once you start to get those higher levels you're not cleaning it out. You're getting those higher levels. They can actually just crawl up each other crawl out and escape so it's kind of a pointless trump at that point okay. So that's not to do it right so now. Let's talk about how to do it. And so we let's in this first part of the show talk about some traps that we can use in small orchards to help control populations. What do we have here that we can start off so I just mentioned a bucket trap right so this is kind of a commercially available example of one. So let's describe it looks like what does it look like it. Looks like a plastic container with a little green hat on and there's room at the top for insects to fly in. I guess yeah and so the idea of this so you can use this for flies for things like moths So you would typically have some kind of lure inside whether it's a formal Moore. It may be a juice trap. Something like that something to kind of attract the insect to this area so they fly into these openings at the top and what happens is they got disoriented and so they're automatic ref- is to fly upwards health so they fly into the top knock down into the bottom and that's where you've got that liquid and so they drowned or you can just leave empty and they get caught so sometimes there's funnels inside so then they can't get back up from the way out so you so you either have a liquid in the bottom or dry and that's how you start to collect them as they fall down inside when you have a liquid in the bottom of a bucket truck like this link. Fill up the whole thing with liquid. No it would just you know. Just be a couple of inches at the bottom that you'd have And that can just be as simple as water but what I usually suggest as having something in it to break the surface tension on the water. Because what can happen. The insects are late so some of them can fall and and basically walk across water and escape so if you put in a couple of drops a soap it helps to break that surface tension so when they drop in they break right through the water and that's when the drowning out them and tell me something so they drop in or they go in there like oh my gosh. I don't WanNa be here. This is your playwright. They fly straight up the a concussion or something. They're all dizzy. They're little stars around their little heads and then they fall into. Yeah so it. Disorients probably began a little conclusion. Maybe maybe knock out and it's just a nice peaceful death. Nice nice to think about okay. What insects will a buck? Atrop- like this catch for us so you can do anything from things like flies. Moths If you're going after wasp that's kind of. There's there are some some commercially available. Wasp Traps that are similar to this So those Kinda tend to be the typical ones going into these trap now win. Let's talk about specific names? What kind of flies would we WANNA get rid of in our orchard so you could potentially do something like Apple Maggot I wouldn't do apple maggot necessarily in this box. I would probably tend towards the sphere which we'll talk about in a little bit But otherwise things like calling moth Oriental Fruit Moth Oblique Mandidli roller any of your leaf. Roller Species So all of those kind of flying pasts are the ones that you want to target for this the larger bodied flying past this great man. It's it's not an expensive thing. How much would something like? This costs. you can buy it in bulk number so these would run probably a couple of bucks per trap and then depending on if you want to do some pheromones with that than those. Erkki typically kind of five to fifteen dollars depending on the past. So it's it's relatively inexpensive especially if you've got a smaller block the you don't need
Intuitive Eating and Cultural Identity with Christyna Johnson, Health At Every Size Dietitian
"The question. It's from a listener named Jen and who writes Hi Christie. I'm up and down with eating struggles and I'm not sure how much of it is a lack of intuitive eating versus eating disorder related. I have a history of Anerexia UNBELIE MIA that I mostly recovered from. But I still have a bit of food obsession and body image issues that I'm holding onto it seems to go in phases a few you good weeks of feeling good and then back to it. I often find myself eating related to emotions frustration boredom etc and having a hard hard time listening to my body's cues hunger. I have a hard time saying no to myself. Even if I'm not hungry it feels more like my mind wants it than my body. I don't binged like I used to but I feel I am over eating and eating unnecessarily and trying to get satisfaction from it but often don't I often feel unsatisfied died despite allowing myself sweets regularly. I know in your podcast. You often emphasized to eat what you want but with my history. I don't know that I can trust my body's cues to do so as it often doesn't seem like a physical need for food. I'm wondering if you have any advice for me to deal with these urges. Do I need to pursue eating disorder help or intuitive. Who would've eating help? Thank you so much in advance Christie. I really appreciate any help. So thanks Jen for that. Great question and before. I answer just my standard disclaimer disclaimer. That these answers and this podcast in general are for informational and educational purposes only and our substitute for individual medical or mental health health advice so first of all I wanNA send you so much compassion because it sounds like you've been through a lot in your relationship with food. Sounds like you're still going through a lot lot in your relationship with food and you know Kudos to making it this far and recovery has it's no easy feat to get out of the depths of Anorexia and bulimia even even if you're still in this gray area early recovery. I think it's amazing that you are not as engaged in the eating disorder behaviors as it. Sounds like you used to be but that said it definitely sounds like you still have a ways to go and your recovery and specifically it sounds like you still have a lot of diet mentality or eating disorder mentality going on and really. They're kind of in the same. I would say the eating disorder mentality is sort of maybe sometimes a more amplified version of the Diet mentality but it all comes from the same place place which is internalized beliefs from diet culture about foods being good or bad or issues about weight feelings and thoughts about weight right beliefs that higher weights are bad and things like that. All of that is internalized. Dia Culture beliefs that you have made your own right. So that's that's what the Diet mentality. That's what the eating disorder mentality is. And that is really evident in some of the phrase. You used here and your question Mike when you say I have a hard time saying no to myself Alf. Even if I'm not hungry and I feel I am overeating and eating unnecessarily so it sounds like you're thinking that you should be eating less and you're policing facing the amounts you eat and you're perceived reasons for eating and that's very much a restrictive mindset. That's very much a diet mentality eating disorder mentality. I'll be mindset. The reality is there's no such thing as quote unquote eating unnecessarily right. If you're eating it's necessary. It's necessary because has especially in the case of recovery from disordered eating. Your body needs to learn to trust that you're not going to start it again and Jenn. It's likely that your body body really needs a lot of work on rebuilding that trust since you had anorexia and bulimia which are really severe violations of trust for your body. Those are in trauma to the body trauma to the brain. A real disconnection of that body. Trust that we're all born with and you know it takes you away from your intuitive relationship with food when you have a disorder anorexia Bulimia which is very harsh very driven by diet culture rules and beliefs and not at all intuitive intuitive not at all honoring the hunger and fullness and satisfaction cues that you were born with and that we all deserve to be able to honor so I would really encourage you to work on this mindset and stop seeing these urges to eat and this perceived eating in response to emotions as wrong or bad the way. I think you're seeing them now. I would encourage you to get help from a dietician who's versed in both eating disorders and intuitive eating and health at every size because I think you need all of that in order to recover I think you need probably definitely still some recovery from your eating disorder. It sounds like you still have some really restrictive thinking going on that you need to to be able to recover from. Maybe some restrictive behaviors as well. When you're talking about trying to get yourself to stop eating right but you also you know? It sounds like you need some help in tuning earning back into your cues and starting to trust those cues Allah intuitive eating so finding a provider who gets that and also gets the health at every size paradigm and is not going to shame you for if you're in a larger body size of your body or say anything that inadvertently makes you feel like you have to lose weight or anything like that. It's really important to find a Dietitian who gets gets all of those things. So you can check out Kristie Harrison dot com slash providers for my recommendations of providers who get it. These are people who've been on the PODCAST. Who who really understand the anti diet philosophy and who? I think. Have the best chance of being able to help you recover. Unfortunately there are still too many eating disorder providers Out there and even intuitive eating focus providers out there who are caught up in diet culture to varying degrees. So if you WANNA try to avoid that I think my shortlist list of providers who've been on the podcast is a great place to start because I try to vet everyone really thoroughly before I even invite them onto the show so you know at least I have a sense that they are pretty well versed in all of these ideas and these philosophies and they're not gonNA turn intuitive eating into a diet for you and they're probably gonNA call you Out For trying to join intuitive eating into a diet so Christie Harrison dot com slash providers is where to get that also as I shared a few episodes ago on the podcast in the listener. QNA for episode two. Oh nine with amy severson. Hunger doesn't always manifest as sensations in the stomach in fact far from it. So when you're judging yourself as quote unquote eating because you're not hungry. I don't think that really tells the whole story either. You likely are having non stomach. Sensations nations of hunger that you just aren't identifying such as thoughts of food difficulty concentrating anxiety. You know lots of other things. So check out that episode for a deeper dive into that where I talk about the non stomach signs of hunger and the sort of things that people overlook when they're trying to learn to honor their hunger you're that's at Christie Harrison Dot com slash two oh nine Christie Harrison dot com slash two. Oh nine or wherever. You're listening to this. You can just look for episode two. Oh nine so I hope that helps ups and just want to send you a lot of compassion and a lot of support in breaking free from these last vestiges of the Diet mentality these restrictive thoughts and beliefs. About how you're eating and just give you full unconditional permission to eat whenever you feel like eating for whatever reason because you deserve it. You don't have to second gase reasons for eating. You don't have to second guess whether it's really physical or emotional or mental. It doesn't matter those distinctions. Don't matter what matters is allowing yourself full unconditional permission to eat for any reason so that you can rebuild that trust with your body after having it so damaged and so broken by the anorexia Bulimia which are really really harmful to your relationship with food right. and your ability to eat intuitively so again. Thanks for that question Jen. And for those of you listening if you want to make your own question for a chance to have it answered on an upcoming episode go to Kristie Harrison dot com slash questions that's Christie Harrison dot COM com slash questions. Leaders Are Those Who Take Responsibility for Their Worlds
"Are all leaders and leaders those take responsibility for their worlds in. That's the that's the construct I choose to operate in. That's like the construct. I'm doing my work from because I want all of us to be aware that we have a responsibility to be really consciously choosing what we're doing in our showing up and the impact it doesn't matter if it's just at home or just with friends ends or at work you know or inner communities larger stage. We all have an opportunity to influence and create him back every moment and it's it's a choice. We get to consciously make an it's such a beautiful choice that we have that opportunity. How do you see when do you think leadership Japan changed over the years and especially right now. Do you think what do we need to know about leadership today that maybe we didn't know about leadership ten years ago. I I really think it's been transforming. You know in the best way I can. I can look at that is one of the I guess. The data points I have is even just coaching it professionals coaching when I did my training fifteen years ago. Organizations were using coaching as punitive tool as is a willing to coach somebody out of something that they're not really well right thirty right whereas now organizations are investing in in developing their leaders to have a coaching skill set because they know it elicits high performance and they're providing executive coaches for their their their executives and senior leaders because they get a it's. It's it's needed so. This is an example of how leadership has shifted in that. There is a lot more of an understanding that as a leader I don't have all the answers it's important that I'm asking for help in receiving help and have support network to do so whether it's a professional or peers mentor and also that this piece around emotional I call it. Emotional leadership has really come into play at being the millennials have released shifted the workplace in the way that they've taken a stance for ivory my whole south to work so interact with my whole self not just the person that's doing this role but I'm a whole a whole person and what a beautiful gift that that is actually I mean I think the millennials for doing that because I think back to my corporate days and there were those days where I would go to work and I was my corporate me and than ever go home and I was my at home me and never did those to cross right. I mean it was really it was such a beautiful gift when I left the corporate world than I really started to build my business about ten years ago where I started to show up as me and my business and it was it was so it's exhausting to try to be two people and so thank us for the millennials really holding that up there yes and thank goodness goodness for people like you who are modeling that that it's okay to bring your full self and this was when I think back to the twenty six twenty seven year old all that McDonald's restaurant like I didn't know that and I was you know I was pretending to have it all together when I did and and I I think I would have been so much more enrolling had I been vulnerable with the team and and just said you know I need your help. You know this is a big mission. We're going to do it together. Other here are some of my ideas. What are your ideas we collaborate in co create and that takes vulnerability and I think that that's a they way how leadership has shifted and will continue to shift that leaders nowadays needs to be more vulnerable open hearted and really good collaborating and listening. Yes yes and you're teaching leaders to be more resilient with their emotions at the building really resilient relationship nations ship. What does that mean yeah so what it means from the emotional leadership body of work is that it is a leader. I'm aware when I'm experiencing emotion so meeting and maybe something is said or or something happens and I'm I'm triggered by meaning like I feel some anger so knowing one knowing that like having you blow flow into it right you just you just go into the motion and you don't even feel it rightly so there's other completely bypassing it suppressing it pretending like it didn't happen or there's getting so reactive that we were not resourceful. Were not creating the impact. We want you know in so we ended up becoming becoming difficult to work with or you know or we just took the meeting off rails because we weren't able to really say okay. Hey I'm noticing. I'm really uncomfortable with what just happened here. Can we just take a moment. let me try to understand this and get curious with you or the team to should try to really figure out what's going on so I think emotional leadership position having the awareness than a emotional beings and then be knowing knowing how did really harrogate them in a responsible way because we are all our emotions our our energy in motion and if we're a for if we're able to navigate them than we can use it to move our missions forward and to enroll people into our into our visions uh-huh that's good that's good and one of the things that really impressed me as I was looking through your information. That is really around how you are. You're you're a coup Delaney Yoga Meditation Teacher Yan. You Bring Movement into your leadership work in. I love that one of the things I do is I hi do equine guided retreats leadership retreats with my with my horses in our work with teams in their motion. There's movement in there. There's there's ways ways for people to start to to connect into their bodies and and I know that this has got to be really powerful when you're bringing Pendolino Cellini Yoga and meditation into your leadership work. Yeah and I'm so I'm so happy CNET. You're doing this work with horses. It's so powerful there it is. It's incredible. It's anything there's there's you know Kinda. Kundan leany Yoga and equine guided added work has got to have some really comparable threads yes yeah into what I noticed in my own practice of the couldn't Yoga and meditation that because every day I'm moving the energy in my in my field old might energetic body in my physical body. It allows me to have a greater experience of what I'm wanting to create and any thing that gets us in our body. Inner breath is going to allow us to create more what we want though as leaders eaters as humans. I think it's important in this day and age because of how busy it is because of how much information coming at us because of how how many like just how how much we don't have an opportunity just to be and take a moment to pause that we have some I'm kind of embodiment movements breath work practice to allow us to really connect to ourselves to be clear on what I'm here for and to be able to be discerning as to where I put my energy because all of us could be doing a million things things end can be getting pulled in so many directions and if that's happening for you or for any you know any any of the listeners might write. My recommendation is to really look at how can I harness the energy that I have so. I'm directing it to the things that matter most right right and when when you're making that space to be much much more aware. You're starting to feel that so are you. Are you teaching. Are you bringing that energy into the leadership teachings that you're doing so in my online program. It's part of the foundation of it. I'm I'm create. I'm bringing core creates or core impostures. If you will meditations to support the participants to have a healthier more responsible relationship with their emotions MHM I've actually tracked certain meditations at work more effectively with anger or sadness or enjoy so that we can regulate and work with those emotions more effectively and so I- introduce some foundational kindle yoga meditation and then then pull it through the threat of online training now that's awesome. That's really powerful and I will say to Cami for some of your listeners who are leaders was inside organizations or parents. Would I do with my team at work if we get on a call all virtual and if they're struggling ogling you know because there's just so much going on. I'll take three minutes and we'll do a quick meditation and you know and then ask them. You know what shift did now our three minutes ago when most of them will say we'll. I'm actually president now. I feel like this big fire. That's burning over here is actually manageable and and so you could do that at home too. You know whenever wins freaking out or when you sit down for dinner just let's take the take a couple minutes in breeds and you know it's a game changer changer it is you know I had interviewed Tammy Simon of sounds true and she was fabulous and one of the things she talked about was they start start every meeting with with some form of a away to just pause right even if it's like sixty seconds of quiet for people to come into the room mm-hmm and be in the room and I learned that because so often you know even think about coming home you get home. You Walk in the door at dinnertime. The the kids are ready. It's like there's so much noise but if you have that moment of pause between Your Day in one part of your day into the next I think we can move into it much more gracefully completely completely. That's good so how do you bring more peace and balance into your your life. What's what is. What kind of practices do you do personally yeah so I do morning. Delina yoga meditation sets and end sometimes all actually I was living very close to a studio in Venice Beach California where my teachers were but not there anymore so they have an online online where I can just do a class from the day before so sometimes that's sixty to ninety minutes set. If not I have like a short thirty minute set that I'm committed to doing every day and then I'm also committed to doing some being more physical. Whether it's running biking walking on going to some kind of fitness class last year the combination of for me too breath were the energetic body work and the physical body work is crucial I and then I have a gratitude practice that I begin end my days with really looking at what I want to create for the day. It's awesome journal that it is it is all laid out for me so makes it really easy to fill in the blank spots but it's like what what would make today gray and then at nighttime the time so what are three things that I'm grateful but what happened throughout the day and they know I think there's a lot of scientific data out there and a lot of mindfulness information that would talk about whatever we focus on we get more of than so. I think gratitude is having a the daily practice of that really really helps us again to create more of what we're wanting jaggery and one of the things I love that you just talked about there is and because I live live in a remote part of Colorado. I live in the foothills of Colorado writes. I'm not in the heart of city anywhere and to get to a yoga class. It's it's a good twenty minute drive for me. He and I love the fact that you've found on online source that you're you're tuning into that on a regular basis. I might have to get that online source from you happy to share that with you. Yeah that'd be awesome and we'll share it in the show. Notes has after you send that to me said just because it's good for all of us define nine ways that we can connect for ourselves make space for ourselves and I love my own morning time. I really do you know. I I do different things. I really tune into the morning and tune in to say okay. What does my body feel like. It needs right now. Some days. It's meditation in Journalism Days. It's journaling and reading other days. It's just sitting outside and the especially this time of year is such a beautiful time of year to build the still enjoy before it starts to get cold old so that you know just to be in nature as hard so important and I love that you are listening to what you need and that day day so it's I think it's important if we can to schedule a bit of time for ourselves each day it just I know for me. It allows me to come bring more gracefulness throughout the day in be more present and kind of navigate what shows up more elegantly. I guess you know not always but I think that's a really good point Kristie. I think it's we're not even we when we do these things we're gonNA. We still catch ourselves going down as we go back. I could've handled that much more eloquently. Oh my God so much so Oh yes and so but I think the more even going back and acknowledging. Gosh that didn't go the way I wanted it to. It just gives us another groundwork to a foundation to work from right and that we can carry forward most definitely meant to be gentle on ourselves when we don't. Ooh When we're not as perfect as we'd like to be as it's like okay well. I'm learning in them growing up to fail forward the exact and that's part of the growth of it all because none of us are ever perfect so it's really being gentle on ourselves with that most definitely yeah so what is the lie. Are you see you wish to leave in the world who Hammy if I could help this. You know was. GonNa say a handful but that's not true. I WANNA help a lot of people connect to their emotions and the legacy I wanNA leave is more permission for each of us to connect and with all of our emotions and and you know and then within a subset under that would be like some tools for people to so that they feel safe to do that so that they don't continue to suppress or avoid or have the bursts but they I feel like they have some tools to connect those emotions. That's the legacy I wanNA lead in that. You know what it's okay to have messy xenakis that emotions are just part of how we give us feedback to know what's happening for us to have the courage to share that more openly brilliant butter bullied people in a responsible way.

It's just not cooked. And I was like, oh so grossed out, oh, they were hung over there. Drinking again in the morning. I was like. Yeah. Definitely. The a- had high-profile jobs. Definitely. I mean, this was their their normal house was just enormous, and then they had this beautiful lake home. Wow. Yeah. I guess so drinking again, it's eight AM going on what's bloody Marys. Okay. "You know, if you are that connects and Asian right now in the United States of America. You are part of the two fastest growing demographic groups in our country. So is some ways people might say, you guys are like the superheroes of the film. Have you flipped it? So that you guys are like, you know, forget all y'all who are excluding us. We understand deeply that. We have this superpower that just reminds me of an experience where I think growing up a lot of soccer and a lot of times you've come across people that were like, yes. All right. So that's kind of like my Trump card like I could be here and play in both places and in both cultures at once. I think that's also played out in like my career as well. I navigate a lot of different communities and spaces. Speaking Spanish has definitely helped me communicate with a lot of different communities that can't speak up for themselves and kind of navigating different relationships and trying to highlight different stories and people's voices. So I think language has definitely helped me be in two different places at once so being able to speak Chinese Cantonese and Mandarin. And then also Spanish this helped me and have the world better Kristie. I kinda see my superpower as like super validating where I'm like, you know, people might not think I'm Filipino for Salvadorian enough for whatever. But I'm like, hey, my experiences, a real and your experiences are real. And I'm here to witness that for you. 'cause I'm I didn't necessarily have that for myself growing up you were mentioning like Asian and Latin next communities are the next largest population in the United States. And for me, it's always been split. Like, you're either or your Latin, and I wanna make sure that Asian Latin x communities Earl so being represented in that demographic as well because we're all meeting with each other. Don't forget about all of us here. The been like we're like the off shoots of all these great population growth. So yeah, I mean, I think it's allowed me to have great empathy for folks that have been ostracized. From their communities. I have a special kinship for let the knows that maybe have been here in the US for about five generations, or whatever and don't know Spanish and get bothered when someone speaks to them in Spanish, and they feel like oh, man. I should know. But I don't know, and they feel like less than I get it because I don't speak fluent or though, it's more like don't I don't speak it. It's just I think that's what it's allowed me to be just have a lot of empathy for folks on and again folks that have been ostracized from different communities..

"You're listening to the daily sales tips podcast. And I'm your host Scott Ingram this week. We're celebrating International Women's Day and women in sales with all women all week. Today's tip comes from my friends, Kristy Walters. Here's what she has to share with us today. This is Kristie Walters. Co hosted the Y in the by podcast, and my daily sales to pre you is don't be a know it all I will admit I am a reformed. No at all. And yes, all of my childhood, friends and family can stop laughing right now. I always felt like I needed just a little bit more information. One more certification one more example of how to handle a specific objection. I just started a new job. And I think some of my colleagues are wondering. Wow. When will she stop asking questions? I'm always throwing out the what if scenario, and it's interesting for me, especially. Really now starting a new role. How deeply rooted that need to be a know it all or that need to show my worse by showcasing my knowledge really is. And I suspect a lot of you out there experiencing the same thing. How often have you hesitated to make a phone call or over prepped for a meeting just in order to make sure that you had one more piece of information? And I want to be careful here. I am not suggesting that you don't prepare in advance for your meetings. You absolutely prepare in advance for your meetings. You need to do the work to ensure you have the right foundation to support your customer effectively. What you don't need to do. However is walk in with all the answers if you are in any level of. Complex sale. The last thing your customer wants to feel is that you were the one stop shop like that. You are the individual who has all the answers. And there's no one else behind you. Sometimes not having the answer, and showcasing that you can pull a team together to provide the right level of support for your customer goes way farther than anything you could have done on your own. It shows the depth of your organization, it shows that if something were to happen to you or you were indisposed that your client would not just be sitting out waiting for you to come back with the right answer. Too often as sales people, we get closer to our clients and shut everyone else out that doesn't serve you. And it certainly doesn't serve your customer. So how do you not be a know it all how do you become comfortable with walking into an environment? And not having all the answers. And I think for me it has always been. About asking those clarifying questions. Sometimes even when you do have all the answers asking those clarifying questions allowing time for those questions and answers to marinate, meaning not being pressed always provide every answer with it within the meeting timeframe. And then just being fierce with your follow up. Not allowing time to drag on while you go and find those answers. But the secret sauce is is connecting those clarifying questions with what your client what your customer objectives are. So that's my daily sales tip. Don't be a know it all and go out and sell something. And remember, we know you're y your housing your what's get much better. That's it for my daily sales tip. Don't be a know it all asked the clarifying questions. And remember you have a team of people behind you to support your efforts with your customer. Thanks so much. There's a lot of great stuff in this single idea from Christie have you suffered from no it always him before. I'm definitely pleading guilty to elements of this one lots to think about and talk about here. So join our conversation at daily sales dot tips forward slash forty six there.
