Congress Tackles Military Sexual Assault
"And institutional changes in the military that would target the growing problem of sexual violence within the armed forces. Critics and victims say the current practice of reporting sexual assault up the chain of command leads to the little to no justice for the victims and often exacerbates the problem. Defense secretary Austin said that he supports the proposed solution of replacing military chains of command with independent military lawyers. It's a recommendation from the Independent Review Commission on sexual assault and sexual harassment in the military, But I fully support removing the prosecution of sexual assaults and related crimes. From the military chain of command. We are prepared to work with Congress to amend the Uniform Code of Military justice. IRC also recommended the inclusion of others special victims crimes inside this independent prosecution system. To include domestic violence, and I support this as well. Given the strong correlation between these sorts of crimes and the prevalence of sexual assault. The two leading lawmakers on the issue of sexual assault in the military say the proposed changes don't go far enough. New YORK Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in California Congresswoman Jackie Speier have been working with Vanessa Genz family to create I am Vaness AGAIN Act. It was strengthened legal protections and the right to anonymity for whistleblowers, including those who filed harassment complaints would also require an independent prosecution body. And it would make sexual harassment a crime in the uniform Code of Military justice. The legislation stalled in the Congress last year, but Congresswoman Spear

To be sexually assaulted by a fellow service member can be shot by the enemy at war. The Senate group wants independent authorities instead of commanding officers to deal with sexual assault cases. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand Call for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to Resign
"In regards to sexual harassment story we're dealing with essentially unethical but not illegal behavior. But that's burying of the lead because in this case is vastly more important to be or to talk about the doctoring of official figures that he had nursing home deaths from the justice, part men, officials, New York legislators and, more importantly, the general public. You're listening to Saturday night on the circle. I'm your humble host Ethan Hampshire producer Donnie on the board. Of course, I'm referring to the ongoing scandal of Governor Cuomo. And it appears things are just getting worse. Republicans finally waking up to the fact that they understood up and do something, even though they're not in a position of power in the state of New York in the New York State Assembly On Monday, they announced an impeachment resolution against Governor Cuomo, saying they believe Democratic governor has lost credibility and trust and has an inability. The lead of the state. Of New York. This is amid his sexual harassment allegations which have been levied against him. Investigators are investigations already underway into the handling of his Corona virus pandemic. State Assembly Minority Leader Will bar play announced Republicans won't be able to force the vote or wouldn't be able to force the vote but would keep pounding the issue. They received a quick payoff because Thursday the situation there already changed now. Currently the investigation not far yet far along and focused on that the top members of Cuomo's coronavirus task force, the Albany Times Union, reported, which cited to source with direct knowledge of the matter. Neither Cuomo or administration officials have yet at this point I've been accused of wrongdoing when it comes to either of the matters now. Thursday, Majority of state legislators called for his right Resignation, including Democrats. The Democrats launched an impeachment impeachment investigation, and police in the state capital say they stood ready for an investigate to investigate a groping allegation. At least 100 21, members of the State Assembly and Senate's have said publicly they believe Cuomo should quit office. Now, according to Italia, taken by The Associated Press count includes 65 Democrats and 56 Republicans. Which is an astounded figure, Democrat Assemblywoman Alan Gunther said. All of us are extremely disappointed. I think there's no room in the world right now, for that kind of behavior. He should have known better now, one of the aspects of this story that I think few people have mentioned is that that this is Ah. This is a culture of the Andrew Cuomo administration. This is a news. This isn't a surprise. People who have been associate ID with Andrew Cuomo have been well familiar with this behavior. Now AIDS air, starting to speak about the culture in the office, which required Cuomo to groom and hire attractive young women to be in his employ, which is a clear abuse of the power dynamic when you're specifically seeking that type of situation Mission and setting that type of situation up. It gets better because now Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and majority of House Democrats from New York, including representatives Jerry Nadler and exact Alexandria Cossio Cortez joined the chorus on Friday, calling for the governor to resign. Nadler, the powerful chair of the House Judiciary Committee, said that Latino James investigation into the harassment allegations against the governor should Continue, but there's a difference between formal investigations that may end up in charge is any question of confidence in our political leadership of Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of the people of New York and Governor Cuomo must resign and that was coming from Jerry Nadler. So, yes, even Democrats now joining the chorus of calls For Governor Cuomo to resign, and it's amazing how the course of one individual can be completely changed in just a year, because you know, a year ago, this guy was being featured prominently on National News by July, Anthony Fauci said that New York was the model of pandemic response. Hey, want a primetime Emmy and then now the world Is collapsing around Andrew Cuomo. And it's just unfortunate that the central focus is being centered around the sexual harassment allegations and not the nursing home death cover up because as far as anyone is concerned, like I said, the outside of the segment is far as we know. Right now. The sexual harassment allegations are not criminal in nature, they are merely unquestionably unethical. But that is wholly different and magnitude from the nursing home death from the causing of individuals to lose members of their family. Certainly that represents a Maura significant and agree Jin's egregious breach of trust from the New York governor. Pretty interesting stuff. Also representatives an idea of the last quest. Who served in Congress since 1993 said there's only one way that the governor can truly restore accountability in confidence to his office. He must resign. Interesting stuff. You're listening to

"You want and keep working your way up. So you can be governor or senator or president someday don't wait till. You're older do now all the all the dudes do they run when they're like twelve as they can. Be running right now. That is very interesting. I I'm curious for you about when you decided that you were ready to run because you were working as a lawyer. I'm curious about. What that experience was like and what kinds of cases you were working on and when you realize that it would be more about being an elected official than an attorney that would help you make these greater changes. So it took me a long time to get confidence. Just like you said, you know you you're not quite ready. I didn't feel like I was ready when I went to an event when I joined a women's group I political group as an adult and. I went to an event Hillary. Clinton was the speaker and she looked out into the group and she said decisions are being made every day in Washington, and if you're not part of those decisions and you don't like what they decide, you have no one to blame but yourself, and for whatever reason, I'm standing the back and I am so nervous I start to sweat. I'm thinking she's talking directly to me and that she's telling me, I have to run for office and I. Didn't feel ready just like you just don't feel ready I didn't feel ready and so what I did to be feel ready as I got involved in campaigns, and so what I did is I started helping other candidates learn how to raise money from women from lawyers I learned how to write policy papers for candidates I, created lawyers committees for a presidential and gubernatorial candidates so layers could write white papers on issues they might WanNa run on I learned how to do Really Good and organized grassroots campaigns helping other people to go door to door. So our candidates could be successful locally and I did that for about ten years and I also went to campaign training schools I went to the women's campaign school at Yale I went to three acts they went to the Eleanor Roosevelt legacy campaign school, and I went to the women's campaign forum campaign.

And I remember helping a lot presidential and gubernatorial candidates and I help other candidates for about a decade before I got enough courage to actually run for office myself. But a so cool. Now, I I know a fun story actually about you from our mutual. Miss Connie, Britton. Yes. Because, you guys were studying abroad in Beijing together and she has this amazing story about how you you got some students through a a pretty scary. Rain rainstorm puts it lightly. I. Mean. We're verging on a monsoon sort of. I. Probably just a rainstorm, but it did feel very scary. Can you. Can you tell me what happened so Connie tells the story better than me, but apparently because I do remember it But apparently, we were out shopping having fun in Beijing on and off afternoon and this huge rainstorm comes in and just stress pelting down and get back to campus the only way to get there was to our bikes back and I think it was about a twenty minute ride the rain was coming down so severely that you couldn't see right in. Front of you, and so I was getting very frightened and I knew my girlfriend's were very frightened. So I I lead the charge and we started to sing like as many like childhood songs. We could remember to just not lose each other in the rate storm, and so we were just like belting out childhood twos for the entire twenty minute journey in the rain and so Connie concludes from that example that I am indeed fearless and will. Lead the way through any rainstorm that's needed. So she's very kind to tell us strike but I can tell you straight about coty. So okay with China, we were invited to the embassy to go to their fourth of July party, the US embassy, and so we went to the fourth of July party and they had a lip synching contest. So Connie, who is most talented of all of us. Not only choreographed routine We did a routine to one of the Madonna songs at the time I'm not sure which, but it was but we won first place and so Connie knew i. knew that she'd be a great actor and she had limitless talent so. Bad. So cool her acting talent shown. Your skills for leadership Even in a rough time were apparent. It's interesting that you kind of always are who you are. Yeah. There there's also. A story that you tell about your time on the squash team and your coach at Dartmouth, and I just think it's so inspiring and I think that especially. Know Young Women who are at home listening to this and finding their way whether it's in service or sports for those big life lessons might really benefit from from hearing that was. "Turn of the century straight into the nineteen sixties and did it very effectively during World War One and World War Two and during the Great Depression. So it's a solution that works and for banks to pose it just shows how foolish out of touch they are because these are customers they are not interested in you've mentioned Mitch McConnell couple of times blocking legislation would like to see come to the floor and. So. It's looking pretty good for Joe Biden and there's a reasonable chance. Democrats could win the White House ANTIBAC- a Senate next year if that were to happen, what would what do you think the first order of business would be for? Democrats. What is the most important thing to deal with first Democrats took the house in two thousand, eighteen they passed hr wine, which had a lot of. Cleanup Clean Government procedures, anti corruption, a provision, and things like that. What would the Senate be interested in a Democratic Senate? Well, certainly, I support every provision in hr one. So getting money out of politics having ethics reform good government reforms that's hundred percent necessary but I think going to be still in the middle of Kobe. So I think we need to pass whatever Mitch. McConnell is not willing to let us do. We can pass a hopeless one of the first bills would ever not passed in this code for package. We could then move along with whatever's needed at that moment in time but sitting state money getting rid of the salt changes for state and local deductions in Newark has been crippling for middle class families making sure we fund. The local governments and states that desperately need our resources That's going to be a priority. No matter what they don't see McConnell allowing those provisions are always all of them to go through. Joe Biden is willing to raise taxes. Our audience finance cares a lot about this because he one of his policies is to raise the business tax from twenty one percent up to twenty eight percent. Let's still lower than it was a few years ago could Congress conceivably do that in twenty twenty one in the middle or immediate aftermath of this recession wherein? Will absolutely Congress would certainly debate issues taxes to see what makes sense but I think where we really want to focus our attention is on access to healthcare improving education system a job training that's where the common ground lies in this country healthcare education jobs, and so I think the agenda will be focused more is that as well as getting my etta politics because we've seen the corruption in corrosion of democracy because special interests and so one of my priorities will be getting money out of politics is there shingle provision you would champion right now? For the future yet gnashing money our politics Oh yes. My provision which I wrote during the presidential campaign It's called democracy dollars in it basically says, if you're willing to be a publicly funded candidate than you agree, you won't accept contributions over two hundred dollars and then you you accept contributions in the form of a democracy dollar from the voters that. Would vote for you and then that can be reimbursed for resources for your campaign on that alone would change everything because they did that in Seattle and it changed to ran it change to one and participation amongst women lower income individuals, minorities increased exponentially, and so it made a difference it creates good government and then the things that seems so impossible like. gun reform or immigration reform. Or election reform all those things stop having massive impediments in their way because that's what's funded by the special interests. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand Democrat of New York. "Welcome to Yahoo Finance percents I'm Rick Newman join us today Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York senator. Gillibrand. Good to see you again. Thank you. We're GONNA talk about the stimulus bill. A lot of people are very eager to know where this is likely to end up. So the Democrats have already passed a bill of House Democrats. I should say, that's about three trillion dollars in stimulus the Republicans in the Senate bill for one trillion. So is it fair to say that this is likely to come out somewhere in the range of, let's say one and a half one, point seven trillion or so at the end of the process. We. Don't really know There's not a lot of meeting of the minds I'm most aspects of this legislation yet. Democrats are desperate to fund our cities, our states, and our local governments I just talked to to the county executives from Ireland, and they're facing budget shortfalls. The next eighteen months of about a billion dollars each. So it's hugely important that we fund our local state governments in fact, local and state governments and budgets are a third of our. GDP. So we really do need to care about how our local governments are working. So, there's no agreement there and there's no agreement on some of the overarching themes of what we want to support. This is still a triage. Ville we want money for food stamps. We want money for sick days money for paid leave money for first responders and healthcare professionals more P p. e.. And that doesn't seem to be part of the Republicans. worldview. So we've long way to go but. The negotiations can begin in earnest now that Senator McConnell has released his version of what he liked to see, and hopefully we can get to a robust bill that actually funds things that needs to be funded like our first responders. So for those of US looking in from the outside. I mean, if one trillion dollars is the key, if you call that the Republicans opening bid I mean, isn't it? Likely you'RE GONNA get some of those things you're asking for perhaps even a lot of weight or asking for well Mitch, McConnell's bid the things he's prioritized or not things Democrats are prioritizing. For example, he said no uncertain terms. It.

No, there's, there's certainly a moment where she's talking toward the beginning of her move toward political career where it's like, okay, how do I get into politics, right? I give a bunch of money to politicians and I was like, well, I can't do that. Right. Writing big checks to Senator Clinton. Yes. Made it up. Maybe that's what she's talking about when she says make your own luck. Yeah. Write your own. Check anyone who listened to our Kirsten gillibrand episode knows some of the story of Jilib, rans, grandmother Polly, and I have also heard her talk about paulie a couple times when I've seen her in person at events, but I really love. I mean, I think you could just write like a whole biography of her grandmother Pauline Noonan, and it would be super fascinating. Because her grandma was quite the interesting person. Did you guys like that? She started sort of that far back in and talked some about her upbringing, and where she got the inspiration for wanting to, to be a strong woman. I love that part of the story. I did some research, am I totally off base here is there musical about her grandmother, or like an off Broadway thing. Oh, maybe. Oh, I don't know. I think so. I looked it up online, and I was like, no. But I mean, there's some sort of off Broadway show that they did based on her life, a have to find it. We'll, she's she. Clearly quite a woman. I always like the biographies like learning about each candidate's upbringing, and their families. I enjoy that part, sometimes more than the meteor policy nitty gritty, you know, bootstraps part. I thought it was really interesting. Her her grandmother, obviously dot the by rule. And she sorta give a nod to the fact, and I think that this frame, a lot of her policy decisions as well that she really enjoys the rules and she struggled with that. So as much as she's inspired by the life of her grandmother, another strong women figures that were around her. I think she really struggled to line, that with this need to like, lease people and, and work within the system, and I see that play out in her politics, a lot, especially recently, where she's got more criticism for being part of the system, rather than a disruptor, and I it's interesting to see how that shakes her growing up. We'll, she says she's her. She was a big rule follower, an ass. Kisser. In the book, I thought was interesting and that, you know, her mother was definitely spunk here in a little bit looser. Yeah, I related to a lot. A pretty big rule follower. I I'm I always make jokes about how like a hate this anti-establishment stuff because he knew who likes establishment me. I like to follow roles and that's always been sort of attention at the heart of my politics is that I'm a liberal and progressive activist, and yet, I don't like to break rules myself, so I could really like especially I think it's common with women. I think a lot of women have sort of been socialized to be afraid to break rules and, and sort of to subconsciously kind of try really hard to stay within the lines. And so that was something I really by. But so one thing we didn't get a ton of from this book is policy, and it makes sense. You know, she wrote this in twenty fourteen she was not yet running for president may or may not have been on her radar is the future, but it was pretty far in the future at that point sewage..

So it's a few years older than a couple of the other books that we have read thus far so let's just jump in. What did you guys think of the book this is Elizabeth? I had a hard time getting that. I didn't have an audio. I had a book an it was way to leave in Lima any for me. It was like an I feel like this formula and this narrative is a little stale. It's like almost condescending way to women. But again, I know it's a little bit older but I just I had a hard time getting through it. And there was also like an off, shucks element to it. You know. I was totally shocked when my name was floated become a replacement Senator for Hillary when she was going to be the secretary of state. You know, I, I find that really hard to believe. Knowing how these things work, but it was a hard slog for me personally to get through it. See, I really enjoyed it now I had the audio book, and maybe that makes the difference. This was the first of the books that we've done that. I listened to the audio book, and I happen to love Kirsten gillibrand voice. I don't know what it is there. Something New York about it that I really love and I had just met her. When we started reading it. So that may also have contributed. I did listen to it at one and a half speed because that's what I do all listening to things that, and so maybe that also helped make it feel less like a slog, but there were certain things that really resonated for me. I was on the elliptical. When I was listening to her chapter about trying to lose weight, and the struggle of doing nut in the public eye, and I was like I totally relate to this. I think it's fine. You talked about liking her voice, 'cause I also really liked her voice, I didn't get the audio book, but I listen to I wasn't Interco listeners for our interview with kissing gillibrand, but I listened to our interview with your Jilib round about five times street, because I like her voice so much. So I think I would have rather had the audio book because I would have liked to hear her read it. I really don't know what it is about her voice. But I just love it. You're all making me wish I had the audio book. I know I, I really like that. I like her outta tude like I do. And it comes through a lot in her tone. And I'm very I'm on her side in terms of work, she's coming from in sort of can-do, attitude and women are strong and can own the world. And I. Yeah, I love that attitude. I love that motivation. But I found myself, not totally buying. She's very earnest and maybe a little naive. I think if the issue because she comes from a very privileged background. I think there are some things that just don't register on her radar. And she has his perspective that she can just bulldoze her way through stuff and that, you know what she's done. She's done by being super ambitious and hard working. And yes, that is true. But it is also true. True. And she gives some nod to the in the book, but it is also true that you had a hell of a leg up. As a white woman with a hell of a lot of connection. And I and I see uses us connections and she plots her points in the book and name drops quite a lot and I'm like, well, you can't help it both ways. Joe either huge this pull yourself up by your bootstraps..

"They're doing so in some of the most dishonest ways I've ever seen. We'll get to the twenty twenty candidates in just a second. I, I have to show you how Alexandra Kozel Cortez responded to all of this. So the inimitable AOC brilliant, brilliant woman. She tweeted out, Alabama lawmakers are making all abortions, a felony punishable with jail time, including women victimized by rape. And incest. Of course. No added punishments for rapists is going to governor Kay Ivey desk. She will decide the future of women's rights in Alabama. Okay. So she's just lying here. The Alabama law does not criminalize the women. Okay. Women who are victimized by rape, and incest, do not go to jail. And when somebody pointed this out, then started to lie, Liz, Wheeler, pointed this out and started to lie like a rug. She said, actually would be a felony for women if those women are medical providers. See according to your own semantics standard. You lied. We can fact, check obvious antics, all day and make absurd bad faith claims. If that's how you want, if you how you. B but I have better uses for my time. No, you don't then then saying silly things. No, no, no. You do that, like fulltime. So she just lies right? Her original tweet is women or victimized by ribbon. Incest, could go to jail. And then when called on that she goes, what I meant was female abortion doctors foam might drop. What a liar, she is. Okay. But she's not the only one who is lying. Kirsten gillibrand who is, of course, one of the foremost, democratic contenders for zero percent of the vote, you know, let's play some Kirsten gillibrand theme music. What do you? Taking every physician on every possible topic. That is true for gun rights, and now on abortion. She is taking the position that Alabama passes a law, and somehow that is a national attack on reproductive freedom. Please explain Kirsten gillibrand. How states that are not New York are passing laws that don't affect New York. And that's a national attack on reproductive freedom. We have to shine a light on this issue. We have to raise up voices of the women who will be affected by this Jakonen an inch humane policy and make no mistake. This is a nationwide attack on women's reproductive freedom on their basic civil rights and basic human rights over twenty nine states in this year alone are attacking women's constitutional rights, and we have to fight we have to fight now harder than we've ever fought before inspiring stuff from a woman whose immediate family might vote for her in a primary. So Kirsten gillibrand. Pushing this Cory Booker goes even further Cory Booker Spartacus as it were. There's Cory Booker such a brave individual. He comes forward. He says, all even pass a Bill legalizing abortion nationwide. So who's nationalizing the issue? Now, Cory Booker Alabama passes a law New York passes a law, you say you want New York's a of govern everyone Cory Booker, but don't worry. It's only Republicans who want to nationalize the abortion issue, even though Rovers his weighed nationalized. What had been at that point state issue? Those of us who are running for president have a chance to affect the national conversation. We are not helpless in this fight in the face of extreme injustice. We must organize and we must do the kind of things that New York did, which was enshrined. Ing Roe v. Wade codifying that in law, and we can actually do that, in congress by passing a Bill that protects women's reproductive rights and make that federal law. The land is it's pretty amazing. Again, Democrats people like Chuck Todd saying that this, these culture wars, they only animate Republicans democratic candidates saying they want national laws that allow. How abortion, basically up till points of birth like New York federal laws that do that. But don't worry Democrats are certainly not nationalizing the abortion issue. Then you have Elizabeth Warren who is fearmongering in the extreme. She says they're over they're going to overturn Roe versus Wade Pocahontas. Yeah. She, she's, she's very moving in to say, anyway, Elizabeth Warren are native American Senator from mobile home. Oh, no. She's from Massachusetts in any case was with Warren..

"Most of the time presidents who fend off a primary challenge. Do wind up. Like, your annual is a perfect example. I it's hard to know that exactly the reason. But if you're a member he was more moderate compared to some of the party he was challenged by someone to the right of him. And so it makes it so I think people that show up at the primaries there less motivated because they see that there's someone that's more right than him that didn't get through. And they don't get out to vote as much. Here's what I will say because I've been at many of these GOP conventions. I never seen a loyalty. Like, I have with Trump, and they are willing to put things aside because he speaks this anger that they have felt for years and years against the media against Democrats is not where I am. But I'm telling you the mood that I feel when I'm on the ground. I was not surprised that he ended up winning because he finally represented them someone who could speak to that two years ago. But that was two hundred. Aren't fully behind the president. Right. That's going to be very different. I hope it's going to be very different. After seeing the Miller report after seeing the despicable behavior that we now know is coming out of the White House. I think that Americans want a chain on something. That is one part of the conversation. But these aren't the delegates that show up to the convention. They have has now given into the fact that Russia can can interfere in our elections. You know what I don't wanna see one of them wearing a flag on selves. And they will you know that little flick pin. I don't wanna see that you do not with at anymore long as you think Russia is more important than the United States who do not wear that flag. That's the one above forty. I wanted to be in the car or on your chest. Well. This is a conversation. That's going to be ongoing because lots of things are coming down the pike, and we'll have to pay attention. I know that we have to go. So I can't say Jack. So I'm just going to say we'll be right back. Later, the beautiful people who people magazine picked for the cover of their beautiful people of the year issue. Do ahead Senator Kirsten gillibrand on how she plans to stand out from the growing pack of democratic candidates and Julian Lennon shares how is late debt John Lennon sensitive sign he still with them. Do you know who is told his staff to skip the White House correspondents dinner this weekend, which will not feature comedian MC? She doesn't need a calm. Does anybody need to everybody? Just stay home and have good night. Do they need to do the correspondents? Didn't they should of course, give the scholarships out? And would shouldn't it be about that? Or should it be about the car spun, and this I mean, how can you do correspondence? If you don't have a person in charge who has a sense of humor. That's the problem. But I mean, it's supposed to be it's supposed to celebrate a free press. And you know, I yeah, I really enjoyed going. And, but it's unfortunate because not only do we have a president that doesn't seem to have a sense of humor. He doesn't seem to enjoy the fact that the constitution provides for a free press. And I think that's why he's telling the folks within the White House that they can't go I've always loved this dinner on and we've all been, but it's like the one time of year, you can be under the same roof with people from the White House, and the press corps when the rest of the time of the year, you know, their it's checks and balances they're constantly going at it. But it's the one time you can let your hair down. You can have some drinks. You can make fun of each other. Reagan was one of my favorites..

"Preach. Okay, continuing. Well, actually, I'm gonna skip because it gives some facts that I don't want to rehash year here. But, but they, but this this author discussed, by the way, this is written by Eddie scurry. I don't know that is, but they discuss some of the reaction but back to small and because he is both black and gay. He could count on the fact that the hoax would check to of the social Justice hierarchies most price status boxes when Senator Kirsten gillibrand who is running for president tweeden, December that our future is female intersectional. Empowered by our belief in one another we're just getting started. This is more or less what she was referring to this is more or less. So in cursing, Joe brand's tweeted, quote, our future is female intersectional. Powered by our belief in one another and we're just getting started end quote. That's this. This is what she was more or less. Referring to was faking hate crimes. Yeah. That's definitely that's way to steal man way to steal man. They're conservative author. I've never heard of continuing the more so silent oppression. Someone can claim we call. It intersection. -ality? Okay. The more morally, correct? He is assumed to be not. So that's actually not true. So I wanna talk about this because it is embarrassing. How many people believe this? He's putting into print here of you that a shocking number of people hold probably more people than don't because it's like all of conservatives. Plus, even like a lot of liberals who were kind of centrist, not into social Justice p stuff. It's shocking. I think he puts he puts this thesis down in a way that a lot of people believe which is and I'll read it again. The more societal pressure in one can claim we call it. It intersection -ality, which is like hind of almost. Okay. Like, if it was just that it would be sort of right? The more back to the text the more morally, correct? He is assumed to be now that is just not so continue. The more valid his viewpoint. This was evidenced by the outpouring of his solidarity encouragement and support for small at by Hollywood, Democrats and the news media after he first made his dubious claim about the alleged attack Representative as AFC tweeted, this attack was not possibly homophobic. It was a racist, homophobic attack. If you don't like what is happening to our country than work to change it. But it's no one's job to water down or sugar coat. The rise of hate crimes. Well, you know that tweet me stepping out. Sorry, stop reading. That's still accurate. You know like it. She was I think she was reacting to not someone saying that the attack allegedly happened..

"Washington's mall, W M A L. Washington comes to talk. Welcome back. This is the Ben Shapiro show. With Bernie Sanders in the race. The Democrats have their first through pure democratic. Socialist the guy who is going to say all the unstable things get rid of private healthcare insurance. Nationalized swabs of industry regulate and tax up the wazoo. And that's a problem for a lot of the Democrats in the primaries for going to have to decide whether to attack more to the center and draw contrast with Sanders or whether they had to follow him down the primrose path because stuff that maybe popular in the primaries is not going to be popular in the general election. Now, there's certain candidates who are who may be able to read this needle. There are a lot of candidates will not be able to one of the early candidates is going to be out. I think pretty soon is Kirsten gillibrand the Senator from New York delusional, Senator from New York Kirsten gillibrand, stay music. Do you? Nobody knows why Senator gillibrand is running. Nobody knows what's your thinks about any issue. In fact, voters are not all that interested in Kirsten gillibrand at all in a hilarious turn of events. She was speaking in Iowa and a woman decided to simply walk right by her. And then just she's like I want my ranch dressing, man. Chris. And Jill people can't see that is why should subscribe at daily wires. You could actually see this stuff but Kirsten gillibrand is standing at a bar trying to speak to a throng of supporters. And this woman is just trying to get through and Kirsten gillibrand said what are you doing? He said, well, I just wanna ranch dressing. I'm not interested in anything. You have to say all I want is ranch. I feel like this is the American public with the election at this point. What we want ranch dressing. That's all just leave us alone. He's got a ranch dressing, please. Maybe the reason that this lady wanted ranch dressing is because she didn't want to listen to Kirsten gillibrand pander with regard to immigration Kirsten gillibrand as her theme song would suggest used to be an immigration border hawk. Now, she says that maybe we should dismantle existing border fences. And she says that indigenous people should be allowed to return to their native land, which I assume means getting rid of the border altogether. Here she is trying to pander to her heart's content in Iowa. Going on at the border. Are indigenous to this and that? And that border. That's why the wall is absurd because indigenous people are native to the United States who should have a wall. So people should be able to cross the border illegally because eight generations ago, their parents, great, great great. Great. Great. Great great, grandparents lived in Arizona. Yeah. They're not open borders. These Democrats they're not radical in any way. There's just they're not radical. "Reporting on the domestic story in the United States looking at the mid term particularly a Senate race and a governor's race. We started New York Kirsten gillibrand is running for the presidency in two thousand twenty. She's bold about it. She doesn't hide the fact that she's preparing herself and raising money for the primaries for the Democratic Party. But in the meantime, she's facing reelection in New York in a decidedly democratic machine New York. Hence, everything is about what the blue Democrats want. There's no Republican here at the moment. I welcome Aaron because he has published a column at Breitbart that takes us into gillibrand transformation from a moderate democrat talked about weapons having owning weapons to a left is not adequate. A progressive democrat who is taking striking positions against Israel with BBS and against the success of Israel, these last years in defending itself against Iran, Aaron very good evening to you. The transformation is surprising. So we need to comment on why what is an explanation for Jill. Lebron appointed by governor of New York. To fill to serve out a an unfinished term that would be MRs Clinton's what is in it for her to move against Israel and against those who support Israel in a state that is dominated by the pro Israel Jewish vote. Good evening to good evening. And I think actually visit this gillibrand at our move clearly into the anti Israel camp, clearly and transparently taking positions neater positions that can only be interpreted for what they are. And that is anti Israel. This is deliberate. It has to be a deliberate. And I think that it says a lot about the future of the democrat party in twenty and twenty because LeBron as you mentioned used to be a moderate democrat. She was in fact, pro and RA, and you look at the way that she seems to be going with the political wins. And it seems that she believes. In order to position herself in twenty twenty those political winds dangerously within the democrat party, look like they're trending toward anti Israel ideology. And I think that goes along with the last elements of the progressive of anti Israel side by side with I would say anti patriotic ideology, certainly anti-capitalist, certainly sort sort of borderline socialist ideology. So to me, it's one thing, and we expect it when we see radical. Let's say like Bernie Sanders who has scandalously promoted HAMAs propaganda. In fact, he's going further than HAMAs claiming, for example, that Israel killed ten thousand people in the Gaza war when even a mosque didn't claim that claiming Israel bombed hospitals on student exactly claim that it's one thing to see a within the. Progressive establishment? Let's say with a Cossio court has also a New Yorkers open the radical. But the fact that you have a political Adamo lake Jila brand somebody who has to be doing this as a political calculation to me. I think this sets off alarm bells. I'm looking at what's happening in Europe right now, especially the transformation that we're seeing also within huge chunks of the UK labor party. And we do need to ask some questions about whether the democrat party is also trending in that direction in that direction. Again is clearly the anti Israel camp. So I wrote this piece it's five reasons Senator Kirsten gillibrand is dangerous for Israel. And I go through we had many reasons, but we boil down to five those reasons and and to me they're stunning. Let's begin the first one because this is about the Democratic Party. Senator Ben Cardin is. One of the sponsors of the Israel anti-boycott act in the governor, and the congress, and this is to oppose the BBS movement the boycott divestment and sanctions movement. Not a controversial boycott opposition. Not at all. And Jill LeBron was for it before she was against it is that the fact not only wish you for it. Actually, she was a sponsor. He was one of these sponsors originally. Israel anti-boycott act, which couldn't be more straightforward. And then all of the sudden, she meets with the ACLU, and then she had a bunch of town halls where you had radical anti Israel groups showing up like Jewish voice for peace leg US campaign for Palestinian rights, and they're questioning her about her support for the Bill, and then she withdrew. So it's not just that she in general withdrew support she actually withdrew her legislative support from clear Bill this Bill that couldn't be any more clear in that it opposes the extremist illegitimate. BDI's campaign that tries to up boycott and the single out Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, the only democracy, by the way Kirsten gillibrand me leader where women in the Middle East have equal rights, whereas the BBS movement doesn't go after or even actually ignores the Muslim women throughout. Out the Middle East who are being persecuted. So she pulls away from that. And then she tried to kind of have it both ways she said that she would support a future Bill. She says that she has some problems with whether this impedes on free speech. How will actually the democrat members of Senate at her colleagues have explained to her? This has nothing whatsoever to do with free speech. And also, I know that there's a particular radical anti-israel radicals name as Raphael Shimono of who was associated with brands campaign. He's one of the owners of if not now, which is a radical anti Israel group and also founders of Jews for Linda as in Linda Sarsour, who was closely associated with children, he takes responsibility for Gelo Brad, backing off the BBS bills. I don't think it's about free speech. Clearly, she goes to a bunch of town halls where anti Israel protesters. Confront her about this. He says this anti Israel activist says he's behind flipping gillibrand on the BDO. So we have that. Then of course, you have gillibrand provided really critical support at a time for the Obamas. Disastrous nuclear deal at a time where you had some key Democrats going both ways wavering, and then Hulett brand supports it. And then you have other Democrats jump on the Obama again scandalous very dangerous Iran nuclear deal bandwagon. So she also very much helped there with the deal that BB Netanyahu. Of course, had was so nervous about that. He addresses a joint meeting of congress to Warren. And there's a very rare friend has really prime minister deal to do about this deal. Also, I'm looking at Jila brands praise open praise in time magazine. Zien for anti Israel, radical Linda are sore, of course, famously said nothing is creepy or Zionism. And then she claimed that you can't be a feminist Zionists. Which again, I point to the fact that is the only country any entire Middle East, Linda wrestler where women are treated equally. So actually, a feminist by definition should in fact, must support the state of Israel. She comes out, and she has praised source, or including in a time magazine piece where she wrote about Sarah sore. He's spoken at numerous events with source or with other be the leaders. And so yes, I'm very concerned about that. Here's the puzzle sh- doesn't Chile brand. Oh, her success to Chuck Schumer. He sponsored her originally when she was appointed to the Senate seat, and he endorsed her all to my memory all through these last years. What does he say about this controversial conduct by hers this transformation? Well, you know, not much publicly. And and I would like Chuck Schumer who has on many occasions, Al evidence himself say what you will about domestic politics as a pretty stable supporter of the Jewish state where the Iran deal, for example, quite quite quite a quite at the at odds with President Obama at the time. So where is he when his colleague in New York is clearly taking a calculated against Israel. I actually would love to see major members of the democrat party who support Israel and then by the way by the very definition support western civilization and. Democracy. Do something about what seems to be. A troubling is problem within the democrat party? And this is part of the struggle. And the fact that you have gillibrand who you know, I don't know what she believes. But she has until recently been a pretty staunch supporter of Israel. The fact that she was is toward twentieth. Twenty would take this seat change is really telling she's gone to town hall events where she cited, and I have all of her quotes in the article with an anti Israel activists who claimed that Israel doesn't respect Palestinian rights. And then also she she accused BB Netanyahu who has been begging mock Mata Alba's to come to the bargaining table. At who by the way, has offered in the past Arafat, and then all boss, a state numerous times and Israel has she accused him of not having a plan for peace, which is. Is absurd while ignoring of course, the fact that the Palestinians have walked away from every plan ever given to them. And in fact, instead have started into Fatah's rejected that she didn't criticize that, and I also know that gillibrand, and I think that New Yorker is should pay careful attention. She voted against confirming David Freedman as President Trump's or Israel. And of course Friedman is a star. In fact, I don't think Israel has ever had American ambassador more pro Israel than David Freedman as part of the backbone of support for the Jewish state, and she voted against him, very interesting. And she is now reelection campaign for twenty eighteen but her eyes on twenty twenty. So we have much to watch and Senator gillibrand presuming she's successful. This is Aaron Klein of Breitbart Jerusalem, we're going to Florida next and the Florida's. Gubernatorial race. I'm John Batchelor. This.

They've defended the FBI, and why shouldn't they that's all their sources. But this one's different. When you see, ladies and gentlemen. "Decides what to produce kind of shows what kind of priorities it could be a powerful ally and i was willing to take that risk because if he said yes it would make a difference and i knew it would make a difference on take you back to december two when that morning that president trump tweeted about you and a story that at the time i thought was too good to be true but i know is true which is that you were actually in bible study that happened and the tweet that people don't remember was lightweight senator kirsten gillibrand total funky for chuck schumer and someone who had come to my office begging for campaign contributions and that's begging and quotes not so long ago and would do anything for them is now in the ring fighting against trump very disloyal to bill and crooked used in all capital letters so you're in bible say how often do you go to bible study and it just happened that you were in bible study that morning so over the last couple of years i've really made this a priority for myself because it really i really enjoy it it's a way for me to get to know republican senators who we don't agree with a lot on and it's also way for me to continue in my faith and feel centered and just have that touch point so i'm catholic i'm catholic and a couple of the senators are catholic mike rounds goes he's gothic the others are various versions of protestant so there's a tuesday morning bible study which is a new arrival study by the freshmen senators that some of them came over from the house james langford started that one and then yep and then lunch on wednesdays i go to the prayer breakfast which is an institution different senators go to that couple do both so light for goes in rounds goes to that too and that's really nondenominational people come in and talk about why faith is important to them but we had maisy hirono committed talk about her faith chuck schumer talked but his faith some it doesn't necessarily have to be christian and then on thursdays the chaplain has a bio state lunch dr black and so i go to that one and.
