The dodgers are definitely deep enough and talented enough to succeed without those guys but perhaps not if they want to catch the giants now for some reason. The giants are just the best best team like ever. It feels like it doesn't make sense when you look at their roster and you look at the dodgers roster or you look at the mets roster something like that. Obviously the mets have been hurt. And the dodgers haven't really been that all that much either but oh my goodness like. The dodgers team is so talented. I just don't see how anybody is going to be able to beat them at number two. We have the san francisco. Giants seventy three and forty one as their record. Kris bryant batted three fourteen with a three eighty five and three eighty five on base percentage. Any five fourteen. Slugging percentage in his first nine games with the giants. Excuse me and he spent the majority of that time playing third base. That's not going to be so necessary. Moving forward with evan longoria activated off the i l. After missing more than two months with a shoulder injury the giants position player group is now full strength which is a very huge rarity at this point in the season and now when bryant's versatility is really going to start paying dividends for a team that has proven to be as good at optimizing matchups. "You know like that. That's what boris is going to be looking for and he wasn't gonna let him sign for anything less than that. The cubs were not going to offer it so we all knew kris bryant was gone. I do feel like they'll anthony rizzo because in that same article Hoyer Cited kyle hendricks desire to stay. He said that he took a little bit less money so that he could so that he could stay. And i don't know if that's necessarily true. He did take less money. But i was surprised that rizzo wasn't like okay. You know. I'll take a little bit less this time so we can build this thing up again. If that's the goal you know because you keep reservoir around you trade by trade bryant and possibly even contraire as which. I guess now that i think about it kind of makes sense that they're not trading him because they're so shallow at the catching position right now. They kinda need him but yeah but those other guys with the same prospects and you can build that team around rizzo and his tremendous leadership. Yeah i don't know. I feel like that. The they could have made it happen. But i don't know i it. It felt a little bit to me like hoyer was like throwing those guys under the bus and like look. They did this themselves. Look at them not me. When you're upset yeah. I could see that i see what you're saying. I still don't think i agree with that. But it makes logical sense. Here's the thing about rizzo is i. Don't it's not impossible for me to see him going back to chicago. Could seem like he goes back next season. They do exactly what you've just proposed. They build the team around him. You know they've they've shaken up the culture enough and he gets a hero's welcome And they've got all these prospects now that they can throw behind him and everything. I think that's that's not outside the realm of possibility. My only concern is what happens with the collective bargaining agreement at the end of the season. And if the institute any kind of salary cap or anything like that and rizzo is might be the one that loses out financially in this deal. Because he's only got. This is the end of his contract and if if suddenly contract negotiations are completely redesigned at the beginning of next season. You know that he's he's going to be an interesting spot. Essentially those all all those guys could be because they holding out and saying you know like i'm going to be on the open market. I'm gonna be worth this much. And i'm gonna get it but then i mean if there's a salary cap those guys are not going to get nearly in anywhere near what they would have gotten either a in an extension with the cubs or be especially if they keep the current model with the competitive balance tax. Which is a joke but to joke but yeah but yeah i. I know they're going to miss everybody. A lot of guys are gonna miss out on a lot of money. And it's that's one reason. I'm worried about Baseball next year is because there are a lot of free agents who would Would hurt from it. So yeah. that's right. That's the trouble that's right so anyway. That's that's what i think. Yeah something to keep an eye on for sure. Those cubs going forward in fun though the fun trade deadline that was excited was it was really exciting and and it went down to the last little bit. I mean kris bryant. The nationals appear to be suffering through their own personal version of the thanos snap and the chicago cubs. Espn's baseball the night bus are only took this opportunity to consider how this trade deadline shapes the legacy of that curse breaking cubs. Team is clear. There's gonna be tons of two thousand sixteen cubs reunions in years to come. You're going to have chris. Bryant probably thrown at first bitches. Anthony rizzo like the last out of the sixteen world series. You do wonder how they're gonna feel about their legacy. I think perfect historical cop. The nineteen eighty-six mets a team. And football players look like Cletus, the robot and the records. I think two and baseball, I think they're more cherished. So the fans and more protective over the records and Don't want to see the records. Having this merged exactly. It's funny because that's one of things that will get into later on in the show. "I was so high on him as everybody was, but I felt like that's the career Cub Hall of Famer and now both of those things, there's a little bit in that. I mean, he still has the whole thing. Path just has to pick up where he left off. Let's say 1918 17. But he's not gonna be a cub, and there are some doubts about his injuries and stuff. I'm with you. This mean, I don't even think you mentioned you're mad, And I mean, this is all things in the World Series winning manager pushed out the door. So it is not ended in any sort of good manners. All things do come to an end. But what you could have done it one win another one or sort of slipped this in the right direction meeting. Okay, You gotta get younger. I gotta find some pitching and use some assets to do that. You know, Trade for Branden. Speak. You know it None. Nothing good has happened. It's all those sort of negative starting with, you know, the failures of 18 and 19 on the field mad and leaving and all these little things adding up And if they don't sign by his life term and or result, just add that to the list of Face what exactly has gone right for this franchise? It just I'm perusing the the ESPN Major 2021 Major League Baseball Farm System rankings for all 30 teams. And this is after the Darvish train. Yeah, and I see the cubs coming in at 22nd right now, like I guess you could improve where you are on this list. If, in fact you got a nice haul and return for Kris Bryant or Javi is somebody else but Like I'm not even optimistic about them finding quality young players to fill all of these gaps going forward because it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of anything special in their system. There's another name. We used to hear a lot about Jason MMA club part of that tree. All right, Theo, Jed and Jason and McCloud was gonna be a GM candidate. All this stuff. Now he's been for gotten because of all those poor drafts where they weren't able to sort of find those nuggets in the 4th 5th 6th 7th round that many other championship caliber teams have done. So, Yeah, it is not worked well in the draft, and that is forced him to spend a lot of money, especially on the mound. And now, all that sort of coming back to haunt them right now, And I asked you if you know what's gonna happen in July. I mean, he is really going to be up against them if they're three games out or four games out. But only a few games over 500 because we know the division's not great. What does he do in July? I will bet you guys I will bet you in most years in that situation, he'd be buying. He'll still be selling. I can't imagine there in any other mode in July rather than self, because if they don't sell, they're gonna be left with nothing. Come 2022. Yeah, it's unbelievable. Jesse Any other nuggets? So if you're saying it's an equal mix, equal trade Well, maybe he does something the team needs some high fastball strike out but less Maybe he won't do something that former brought to tail. I'm not sure what but neither one is hit lefties in their career, so I don't know if it's a wash. But here's my point is the offense any better than it was six months ago. If you're on Lee, relying on walk your type stuff, you know, meeting big years from bias Big years from Rizzo. "Good. I was just Connor listening had the Cubs fan and sports fan in general after seeing, uh what the Brooklyn Nets paid a pulled off. With rockets of the James Harden deal, and like If the clubs could replicate anything that the Rockets did. There are front offices and get all of them. Think I get a list of what you just said about Kris Bryant being like 50 cents on the dollar, but and I love bias. But like you said, I fully agree. If he's the best player, we get the best prospect back from that's what the club's gotta do. We gotta accept the few crafty years. Like the next 3 to 5 season. Next time to be great, you know, it's kind of it's a pattern of sports in general. Well, then you've got to make those traits. Now. You're not getting five prospects on July 24. You know, I would. I want that to happen. To be honest, I'm just ready for the overhaul. Now. Why wait? You know And she and what? When maybe 77 games and You know, screw up screwing up in, uh, trade deadline or whatever. I totally would want to start the season and just be complete, rebuilt. What a mess. So the question then becomes if the Cubs were trying to shop some of these guys around, you know, like like Joe was talking about her, like Kevin was talking about rather Is Well, why would we give up our prospects when we can just spend money on guys, and it probably won't be the kind of money that they thought they'd have to spend because of this offseason being what it is. Teams hemorrhaging money, a pandemic affecting overall prices. That's that's another really big force that's going against the Cubs trying to make moves here. For example, the Dodgers Justin Turner, right, He's a free agent. He's their own guy. You think they're gonna have to pay him 20 million to retain him for one year? No, and I mean healthy. I'd rather Kris Bryant and Justin Turner. But The doctors don't need Kris Bryant over Justin Turner. Did you know I mean like they, don't they? They're winning. They could win without Justin Turner or Chris Brian. So it's like you're right that there's so much inventory out there. Why would anything pick up 20 Million and give up prospects for it?
