"Here on ESPN 1000. I'm not water, nor my Sylvie. Others. My good friend Brian handling, but it's like night and Hedley. We both have our shirts on to what I have been known to go without a shirt occasionally. Well, I mean, you know, if you if you had if you had every everything he has going on, Brian, I mean, yes, I'd be a lot younger Chills younger, too. Yeah. Nice. It's nice to hear from you, my man created. Yeah. Brian Handley, Connor McKnight. In for water and Sylvia on ESPN 1000 place. You guys. I mean, Jesse five cups of coffee today. I mean, he was He's on fire, huh? Miles an hour. My friend. There is one it beat for that man if Kris Bryant's 50 cents on the dollar Shelby Miller, whatever getting for him. He is Shelby Miller is the He's the You know how When you do your your event, end of your taxes, Brian, you actually have to write off the savings. Your savings account the interest that you get there, and it's like nine cents nine cents four cents somewhere, But I have to report that to the federal government as they come after me. That's that's that's where you're at with Shelby Miller. Yeah, just just looking. I just looked in my my checking account. I got four cents interest and I got a $15 service fee because I didn't have enough money in the account for that. Uh, that is. It's exactly how it comes. That's every single time. Well, Shelby Miller, I mean, you know, here's open its 2013. I'll even take 2015. I'd like to be five years younger. You know, sure will be an all star this year. It I've I love with. Jesse just said either the cup fans left out there. I mean, think about Think about that guy where the home of the White Sox the one team in town that's got all the buzz going and rightfully so. I mean, just think we're how many years removed from the world Syriza and now it's like Okay. Last cup fan out of Wrigley Field. Turn off the light. So I guess when you're allowed back in, I mean and turn down the solid would say turn down the audio system. He's been here in a police force. That's right. I think it's interesting and even, you know, Brian, I don't know how. How how deep get on like the underground international sign me Twitter followings and stuff. But there's more heat around the White Sox right now are not really exactly sure what it is that there's plenty of people that have You know, maybe more on the international signing thing after bringing in Koloss and yell Kiss ass piss And nor, Hey, Vera, and stuff like that there. Why? Nine. Or did you mean when you think about what? How They've been. I'm not go to the well keep going there until it comes up dry right? Even the Blackhawks are better now going over to Europe and finding Professional guys who were still 23 24 bring him over here, and they're technically rookies in the NHL, but they're professionals, right? I mean, So if it works to go toe Latin American countries and getting guys at 16 17 and developing on there, or even 18 19. Why not when you know what it is Brian, at least for me, whether it's the Blackhawks thing, whether it's the White Sox here and now or whether it's the Cubs painting, the other kind of example. Is that once you get to a point in professional sports, where you're pushing for championships, where you got expectations to go win, that doesn't mean that you can let aside. Some of the things that build up the next wave of talent that come home to your major league roster. Whether your baseball or football or what have you. You can't just keep on pressing all in all in all in over and over again. Because then you end up where, like the states are right now or you end up where the cubs kind of feel right now. If everything goes bust on you, you have to continue to build. Those lower levels because that's how you supplement some of the talent injuries happen. And you you cannot take your foot off the gas, especially in major league baseball. Look at the Dodgers. Their calling card is having three guys. After their starting shortstop comes down or goes down to go ahead and hit baseballs for you. That's that's how you win titles and the Padres air trying to become real, even with the Dodgers, and they're holding on to their top prospects as they make these trades and great signings, right so No. If you look what the Cubs got returned for Yu Darvish, and it wasn't either Top 10 top 15 prospects and they're all 16 70 year old kids, and here's hoping one of them actually turns into something But the and this offseason given what you guys were just talking about how no one wants a 19 a half million dollar Kris Bryant, and by the way, Scott boards still think he's going to get a long term 30, plus million dollar deal for a guy who's been hurt and Out of the lineup and and, you know, God bless Kris Bryant. Everyone roots for but The realities of baseball right now, are that Pandemic and no stand. No fans in the stands and all the revenue lost it. Z Awful tougher guys coming out of contract are hoping for their first really big payday, even though 19.5 is nothing to sniff at Um, no. No one's talking about $300 million deals able right now. You know, I feel bad for Chris Brian. I know that I've been dogged on Twitter for it, and I don't mind whatsoever, but I'm still a Kris Bryant guy still think there's a good ballplayer in there? I don't think Kris Bryant's been healthy for quite some time, and I think it matters. And like you, I'm not. You know, the Bryant family will be fine. We'll pull in 19 5 next year, and that's all well and good. But I do feel bad for a player like that. Who had, you know? See service time kind of played with, as was allowed in the rules who, through circumstances outside of his own won't hit the You know the big payday that he probably could have had otherwise, he not been hurt me not, you know. It's kind of It's weird. There's so many things about this Cubs team that should never be for gotten. They should never buy a beer in this town again. They should never pay for a meal in this town again, you know, but There. It's hard to not feel like that team is somewhat star crossed. A guess are the 85. They're still pin for me are still getting free meals and free beer. I don't think so. No, they don't know. I mean, she should write. Don't think. Do they always. I'm in free, right? Well, boy, I mean, I've seen a few home. Oh, yeah, It's been a while now. It's like with the Bulls, even when I was covering the holes 2005 to 2010. Kept thinking, Boyd. You know there's a little dust on those championship trophies there. The bird Oh, center, right, 1998 in the last one. It's and circling back to Even the New Orleans Saints When I know you asked to you what true breezes, you know, football, little bit would be what would be the leading trying to capture his career? Think about For all his successes are all the eye popping numbers and 15 years and all that. Think about how many Super Bowls and what should have been. It could have been, especially last 45 years, Right? Yeah. I mean, those that's a team that's is much marked by last minute losses in the playoffs as it is the title that they want. I had. That's really interesting, Brian. I had put them in like the same context as the Cubs, and certainly it's not quite there. But there were demons exercised by that by that Super Bowl title. I mean, given everything that that You know, and it's become It's become kind.

"Good. I was just Connor listening had the Cubs fan and sports fan in general after seeing, uh what the Brooklyn Nets paid a pulled off. With rockets of the James Harden deal, and like If the clubs could replicate anything that the Rockets did. There are front offices and get all of them. Think I get a list of what you just said about Kris Bryant being like 50 cents on the dollar, but and I love bias. But like you said, I fully agree. If he's the best player, we get the best prospect back from that's what the club's gotta do. We gotta accept the few crafty years. Like the next 3 to 5 season. Next time to be great, you know, it's kind of it's a pattern of sports in general. Well, then you've got to make those traits. Now. You're not getting five prospects on July 24. You know, I would. I want that to happen. To be honest, I'm just ready for the overhaul. Now. Why wait? You know And she and what? When maybe 77 games and You know, screw up screwing up in, uh, trade deadline or whatever. I totally would want to start the season and just be complete, rebuilt. What a mess. The division is Connor as well, thanks for the call Kevin because it's somewhat winnable for any of these teams other than the Pirates. What's gonna happen? July 31st year. All fourteens are kinda refit retooling. They don't know what they want to do. And then you're sort of you're in it. Are you really gonna go for it? Because the Dodgers and the Padres air So in the East, this stack all these Teams. They're so much better than yours. But you can't give up a season like the Central is a mess. And these teams are gonna tough decisions between now in August 1st. But here's the other force that's working against the Cubs. Right now. It's you Go ahead and look through anybody's top 25 top 50 ml be free agents The vast majority of them don't have teams right now. So the question then becomes if the Cubs were trying to shop some of these guys around, you know, like like Joe was talking about her, like Kevin was talking about rather Is Well, why would we give up our prospects when we can just spend money on guys, and it probably won't be the kind of money that they thought they'd have to spend because of this offseason being what it is. Teams hemorrhaging money, a pandemic affecting overall prices. That's that's another really big force that's going against the Cubs trying to make moves here. For example, the Dodgers Justin Turner, right, He's a free agent. He's their own guy. You think they're gonna have to pay him 20 million to retain him for one year? No, and I mean healthy. I'd rather Kris Bryant and Justin Turner. But The doctors don't need Kris Bryant over Justin Turner. Did you know I mean like they, don't they? They're winning. They could win without Justin Turner or Chris Brian. So it's like you're right that there's so much inventory out there. Why would anything pick up 20 Million and give up prospects for it? They're in a bad spot with Kris Bryant. We have to break ominous, You know, sort of wrap up my portion of the day and Brian Hamleys gonna join Economy night coming up in four o'clock. This is ESPN 1000. You're.

"The final four set in the NFL. I'm gonna stick with it all week. See if anybody any of the regulars pick it up the regular NFL quad? No, No. Yeah, That's that bad NFL. Quiet. Yeah, we'll see if any of the regulars when I say regulars, I mean You know David Caplan, Jay Hood, Carmen DeFalco year ago if any of the right Yeah. The ladder Yes, and see if the guys later on today. It's not gonna be waddling. Sylvia's they take they get the holiday off for MLK Day. Um, but it will be Ryan Handley, Jesse Rogers and Conner McKnight. They will be here. A threesome will be here a little bit later on today that we heard from two to what time are they here To 2662 to 6, just like waddling Sylvie show, So they were here down. I'll talk some baseball right now. As Some fans out really interested in talking baseball. White Sox manager Very interesting and I am too. I am too. I watch hot stuff. I wouldn't we be. I know. I know. White Sox fans very, very happy right now. Especially with their off season. I watch MLB network I love watching hot stove. And then during the season, you miss a highlight You get up the next morning. You watch him. And you get to see Robert Flores and you get to see all these fine people, dear. Oh, and Lawrence Jihadi and we get a chance to talk right now. With Robert Flores from the MLB Network. Robert, How are you today? I'm good. And hey, don't dismiss Cub fans wanting to talk about baseball. Because look, they can they will be able to hang a championship banner. Or a banner that says financial flexibility at the end of this season, So that's nothing to just need that, okay, It's funny. That was about the fifth question. I was going to ask you not necessarily about the Cubs. But they've done this before. Where they kind of didn't try to win. And then they got some draft picks, and one of my biggest things is you know they were able to win. Some people said a year or two early in 2016 a year before they thought they were going to. But what was your opinion of teams doing this? Because If you look at the Cubs, they really only got good players with their number one pick and those rounds, which was never the number one overall. And you know it was Al Maura and Kris Bryant and Schwarber and Ian happened. It worked out because they want a super I'm a Super Bowl world, Syriza, but it didn't necessarily work as well as they thought. Well, I don't think that that's on indictment of What the Chicago Cubs did or did not do. I think it speaks to just how difficult it is to a win a championship. And B. Math out or assume that this window is open, and therefore we're gonna win multiple championships. I mean, after 2016. I think nearly it was conventional wisdom. That said, Look at this young core. They're going to win multiple titles, and the same thing was said in 2017 after the Astros. And I think you look at both of the Cubs and the Astros. You see that the wind is this Perceived championship window that is wide open. It closes very rapidly. I mean, look at where the cubs are at right now. I mean, there's a very real chance that Kris Bryant will get traded. Ha ha. Do you? What do they do with Javi? Bias, Right. You've already lost Schwarber is Wilson contrary is going to be gone, so I just think it's it's very difficult. Um, the decision makers and the organization builders that these teams have have a very difficult job because they can map out and plan out as best they can. Even sometimes, you know the saying the best laid plans, right? It doesn't work out, So I just think it's so difficult to assume that Hey, we've got all this young talent. We've got these young core. We're gonna win at least three World series. It just doesn't work out that way. Sometimes. Before we talk a little bit about the White Sox and some of the spending that they've had baseball's getting ready. As you know, we were told basically by the commissioner a week or so ago. Expect to play 162 games. Expect spring training to start on time, which has to be great for you guys at the MLB network. A lot of things to talk about coming up and probably your 30 for 30 and everything else like that. But They're less than a month away from spring training, and they still don't know if both leagues you're gonna play the D h or not. How can that possibly be happening? And why are they waiting for them? Yes. Yeah. I mean, that's a very good question. And, um I'm sure you guys they're familiar with with Andrew Brandt. You know that former front office executive for the Green Bay Packers? Yep. You know, I worked with him at ESPN, and he was always fond of saying Deadlines, spur action and look, all these things have to be negotiated. They all have to be discussed between the league and the players Union and, you know, traditionally These things don't get done until they have to get done because I think you know if if the league says Okay, Well, if the if the league says, Okay, we're gonna have a universal th Okay. Players union. What are you going to give us in return, So there's a lot of that going on back and forth, But make no mistake. Look there. These two sides are led by very smart people, and it will get done. I've been in long favor of the Universal D. H for for a long time. Now. I love the idea of the seven inning doubleheaders. I love the idea of starting the runner at second base in extra innings on Lee for regular season games both season. Let's just play it through. But I think that baseball has a real chance to re imagine how the game is played. Re imagine how the game is viewed and consumed by their fans. Now, do you think the pandemic had a Had a hand in maybe resetting the table to allow us to look at these things seriously. Oh, yeah, Absolutely. I mean, um You know, I think with you said, Look with the pandemic. I don't think that we would have seen the seven inning doubleheaders. I don't think that they would have been so quick to implement the new extra inning rules of the Universal D. H..

Bryce Harper dishes on Phillies potentially trading for Kris Bryant

"But Bryce Harper came in yesterday after you had already left and he I'm I thought he explain things perfectly people Phillies fans are inoperable or that the Phillies won't go into luxury tax territory right now and make a trade for a guy named Kris Bryant from that listen a B. B. grade get Kris Bryant but he's a free right you have to trade something significant to get on that's the point even going to luxury tax territory so endemic fell I actually thought explained it was explained it well on Friday the at the trade deadline if they're playing well and they feel like they're legitimate contenders they're willing to go into the luxury tax but they're not gonna do it right now I'm totally fine with that well I think more than the luxury tax is what do you trade any make feel made a point and then claim tech does is well and he's not a free agent but they've lost draft picks which is no excuse for that for two steps making mony act and some other stuff I forget his name that was drafted in the first round they just flat out step Cornelius Randolph gets hazy looks like a platoon player he was alive now that was known Monique sucks it well you're given to give him some time where are ya hit one ninety nine so but whatever the case may be so they complain that they traded away to get players will they wouldn't have been as good if they didn't sign the free agents so that's why they lost the match their own fault because they didn't develop a farm system so what do you trade for Kris Bryant you're not gonna trade Spencer Howard and you're not going to trade to bow out bonus is your number one piece Spencer Harris number two and then the name that's being talked about a Scott Kingery and there's no chance those are trading stocking re for Kris Bryant not absolutely and they should now and they should Keister best second baseman and he's he's a good player is going to cut down the strikeouts but the reality is what do you treat you don't have enough to trade because then you're there already barren in the farm system then you're really and you know who won the mage the only down the major league level might be sky king re but he's not good enough or they don't need Reese Hoskins because bombs probably going to end up down the line is a first right and and they're probably gonna be a DH at some point soon the cubs in the National League company Hoskins because they have rich now so what did they trade so nine the luxury tack and John Middleton stated it I forget what it was but it was in the engineer and they said they're not gonna do it to compete for a wild card they'll do it to be run Irish contender I understand that so me too if it's only going to get you into the playoffs what's the sense if you know you're not going to go for if it's not enough to get you far in the playoffs but they'll have a better idea at the because Phillies fans that haven't seen playoff baseball in a long time frustrated and and and other Senate lately how are you understand that that that that we'd like to see playoffs here and I still think this team is a second wild card contender just because if you're if you're if you're gonna get eighty some wins your contender for the second wildcard but like it if this point Hey how're here's what I know it okay the division winners let's just say it's the Braves in the nationals the actually the cardinals aren't the number one team in the central it would be us the cubs cubs cardinals over a Cup's corners or Milwaukee improved Milwaukee correct okay on the west it's lost list Los Angeles all right so now those are the three so so for the wild card it's either Washington or Atlanta the Mets are in there any either Saint Louis miss out on yeah the teams in the set of the Arizona was improved last year I mean it did when I say they're contender that doesn't mean that there are yeah that that there are there are there a a favorite to do it right but it's so that so that's a Philly fans are saying they're saying look listen you're not good enough right now so go out and make a trade how here's what I know right you can't build a baseball team that's going to win a World Series with free agents you're just not going to because they have a limit they're not the Dodgers are not gonna spend three to forty million dollars you need younger players from your farm system and I thought the fans fall to the Phillies have done a poor job building the team and they don't have a lot in their minor league system to do it it's up to his fans fault but it doesn't mean that you're going to trade your top prospect who is your everyday third baseman it in a year

"The cubs convention and while they're having this convention which seems like a nice breasts ceremony and it's supposed to be a couple of days to get the fans involved Kris Bryant was there Kris Bryant has been involved in trade rumors all throughout the offseason he's there at the cubs convention shows up waves to people reporters are there would love to talk to Hey Chris you have to see what a World Series your great player you're a young guy you worth a lot of money they're trying to trade you how do you feel about that pretty fair right well Chris Bryant apparently had the flu and so he wasn't able to speak to reporters which is now brought out all sorts of conspiracy theories namely the crisp bright was faking the full so you didn't have to talk to reporters which I love this theory no I don't think it's actually the case it might be that he literally just stood there for five minutes is like I this is all of doing and then he was sick but he took one for the team to show up and then they did him a favor and sent home but for him to be accused of of because if you remember with Taylor Ramsey when he was with Jacksonville it was like oh my back together to is nothing to do with my contract when you get treated just my back is killing me now I have on my back feels better but I'm having a baby no I still might to all the dog got out of the yard see in three weeks like you just it was always something with Kaelin read the dilly got traded and it was hysterical so by the way pitchers and catchers coming up pretty soon I wonder if Chris pride views faking the fluid out I wonder if he takes it going into spring training that would be something to see but here's the other funny thing about this story is it Jessica Bryant the wife of Kris Bryant was furious about the accusation the crisp bright was faking the flu this is a quote this is the tweet that she had because it makes so much sense to fly all the way to Chicago to fake the flu not to mention leaving in on the phones at eight five five two one two four two two seven are you Chris Bryant's Dr eight five five two one two four two six please break the HIPAA laws for the show I need content I need I need tweaks you know so we have been talking a lot about the cheating scandal with the you know the Astros the red Sox the Mets everybody is what it seems like and whether or not you think baseball is going to change as a result of it two important thing they control these punishments down people get fired fine suspended whatever what do you think it's going to change is it enough to actually make people in the league reconsider how they've been doing business is this enough of them if they have programs there's theory that there's a lot of other people doing this it wasn't just everybody connected to the Astros so for the people doing this this offseason are they having meetings okay what that plans out what do we do now are we just going back to regular baseball we coming out with a new plan different technology better technology I mean you can find better technology than a trash can right I think we all can so maybe that's what's going on right now that's what I tend to believe is the people trying to find the more creative less obvious solutions they want to make it because basically baseball so all of this and said in in twenty seventeen what yeah the cheating here we really care for it whatever so when they do that if it's cheating I just say Hey as long as nobody blows the whistle on us what happened with the Astros Mike Fiers comes out goes Hey by the way those guys I played with the twenty seventeen they were treating it if that doesn't happen then maybe nothing happens probably not they don't legislate this again so eight five five two one two four two two seven I don't think they want to change a damn thing that's what it seems like to me now the only thing I got I got to get this off my chest it's killing me so I'm a big NFL guy hall of fame you know it generally is one of those things I I don't want to get too bent out of shape about I don't want to because there's so many good players in say that certain guys get in over other guys and all this stuff it gets a little messy it's a there's a lot of great players you can only get so many guys in and I don't always want to make a big stink about but maybe that's the problem maybe that's the problem is that only so many people in a single year can get into the hall of fame because think about the people this year they're getting it beautiful expanded the hall of fame this year because it's the one hundred year anniversary of the NFL I don't know if you've seen that logo they probably tattooed inside of your rivals right now but yeah it's the one hundred year anniversary so no more people and especially older players are getting in but think about this now because it feels good right guys that have been waiting for so long finally get that moment to go into the hall of fame you think man this is great this guy's been waiting for thirty years or whatever now he's in let me ask you this okay Alex Karras is somebody that just got inducted into the hall of fame you might not have heard of him before because you stop playing football in nineteen seventy okay he hasn't played a snap of football for literally fifty years he just got inducted into the whole thing just now by the way he died eight years ago so this guy waited forty two years the rest of his life where every single year year in and year out Hey how do you think you get in this year what about this year maybe this is the year he's doing the same thing himself I don't think about it too much but you know maybe this is the year and never came for forty two years it never came for Alex Karras and he died at the age of seventy seven still outside all now they put him in eight years after he died fifty years after you stop playing who is that good for who does that benefit does that make the game better it is his case better fifty years later now like will we forgot how great football was in nineteen seventy now it's cool again it's like pet rocks there all the trend let's buy it again no not nothing changed the fans and saw him play are less and less by the day so what's the benefit what are you trying to do here are you really trying to honor the guy and give him the respect for the career that he had what he contributed to the game are you trying to do the tourist attraction and get people who knew these guys because it is a place to go and spend money and hang out for a day and I've done it myself is it is that what it's supposed to be because if it is again he played fifty years ago how many people are going to the hall of fame that remember him that even think to look for right if people are worthy of being in the hall of fame right one a barber you know run a barber if you follow the NFL all he was a massive great player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers help them we don't Super Bowl he's not a hall of fame are we going to get in at some point and that's what people tell you he's going to get in at some point why wait if he's all fame player why should he wait we all know solving player to prevent no there's only seven guys we can lead and we have rules will one of the point of those rules why do it why seven as far as I know there's eleven guys on offense eleven guys on defense the positions based on scheme and all that stuff modern NFL yeah you slide quarters basically starter you slot receivers basically starter kickers you know not a little long snappers get in I don't think but there's a lot of positions in a football game how can only see seven people every single year especially when you have these backlog of guys did stop playing fifty years ago fifty years ago you know long ago fifty years ago is my god who benefits from this that's what kills me about this is this the right process is this the right way to handle these hall of fame guys are they getting the proper respect is Alex Karras smiling down who knows the guy's been dead for eight years right hell Carmichael just got in for the eagles he's the point in nineteen eighty four there's guys at some point like the thirties and forties you know it's just if they are worthy of the hall of fame put them in you're better off with a million people go they say yeah I watch the guy play it was great you know eagles fans going to travel to see Harold Carmichael at the I think Alex Karras gays fifty years ago I think it played with the whites maybe some wine spent the last fifty years could be like at your member Alex Karras yeah all my god that came in this year and that team that's what it's all about remember the history the game it's honoring these guys for what they did the fund that they gave us on every given Sunday I mean that's pretty great so be so uptight if we can only lead in seven for the sake of it even old thirteen guys a worthy this year I just don't think it's a good idea they need to re evaluate the stuff getting these guys in this year it's not necessarily a feel good story it's sort of correcting a mistake and that's what bugs me a bugs me to no end so anyway if you enjoy the show you can hop in at eight five five two one two four two two seven you can also happen on Twitter at it's Vince queen all one word it's Vince could we have been talking about the Astros in the cheating and I think they should lose the World Series that's that's what I think the only really the only thing that matters is they should have lost the World Series and they didn't they kept the trophy so let's go to the phones let's talk to stand who's in Dallas then you're on CBS sports radio the events are I know I didn't wait forty minutes just to agree with everything you said you know what you're right number one sadly there's not could be changing Major League Baseball until the owners get with it and fire rob Manfred who I I can't believe this number one strictly the Astros other title in two thousand seventeen number two I personally think that Jose Altuve a we had some really gaudy numbers in two thousand seventeen I'm like question what kind of "The cubs convention and while they're having this convention which is like a nice breasts ceremony and it's supposed to be a couple of days to get fans involved Kris Bryant was there Kris Bryant has been involved in trade rumors all throughout the offseason he's there at the cubs convention shows up waves the people reporters are there would love to talk to Hey Chris yep this team win World Series your great player you're young guy you worth a lot of money they're trying to trade you how do you feel about that pretty fair right well Chris Bryant apparently had the flu and so he wasn't able to speak to reporters which is now brought out all sorts of conspiracy theories namely the Kris Bryant was faking the full so you didn't have to talk to reporters which I love this theory no I don't think it's actually the case it might be that he literally just stood there for five minutes is like I this is all of doing and then he was sick but he took one for the team to show up and then they did him a favor and send me home but for him to be accused of of because if you remember with Jalin Ramsey when he was with Jacksonville it was like oh my back together to is nothing to do with my contract when you get treated just my back is killing me no I'm I'm at my back feels better but I'm having a baby no I still might to all the dog got out of the yard see in three weeks like you just it was always something with Kaelin read the dilly got traded and it was hysterical so by the way pitchers and catchers coming up pretty soon I wonder if Chris pride views faking the fluid out I wonder if he fakes it going into spring training that would be something to see here's the other funny thing about this story is it Jessica Bryant the wife of Kris Bryant was furious about the accusation the crisp bright was faking the flu this is a quote this is the tweet that she had because it makes so much sense to fly all the way to Chicago to fake the flu not to mention leaving his "Was limited to only one hundred and two games. He went in the disabled list twice with left shoulder issues. One of the reasons the cubs might be willing to deal him is that he reportedly turned down a two hundred million dollar offer to buy arbitration years, and he might cost way more than that to sign long term. So this is an interesting dilemma on one hand, he's twenty-seven. Yup. And a former MVP on the other he was heard all of last year and would cost a fortune to sign would you trade for Kris Bryant, I would not because he is very close to the. Point at which he is going to become a free agent. And if he's intent if he turned down two hundred dollars, Scott Boris guy, he's pointing to take a I can take any type of not there's not going to be any discount. If he's going to take down to the wire and get to the open market. No matter what I don't think he's necessarily the kind of player you wanna deal in. I'm I'm just looking at a seasons. I mean, he's. I don't know. I find the number somewhat replaceable. I had I'm actually with you on this. I think that the the the number of guys I would give north of two hundred million dollars to you can count on probably less than one hand. Right. Mike trout. I would do it for sure I'm you know, who else I wouldn't give it to Manny. I wouldn't give it to Machado. I wouldn't give into Harper. I wouldn't give it Aaron judge. He's only had one great year. Mookie betts. I think about that. Sure. I'd have to think about Mookie Betts. So Mike trout. Mookie Betts, but those other guys have had basically that Carper one or two good years. Yeah. Kris Bryant one or two good inconsistency in the pitching. Is there a young pitcher Greg that I'm I'm not thinking of like a guaranteed young pitcher were two hundred Corey kluber. No, no, no, not yet. Not Corey kluber. Chris sale to be sales broke down at the probably like you said may clubbing back inside of what his best years are Bir may be and although I two hundred million dollars for pitch no way. No, how the highest paid pitcher in baseball Clayton Kershaw. I would take Kris Bryant though for two hundred million out. Pam two hundred million coming up. Yeah injury. But he's young. He has a lot of power. He can play music deficient. I'm twenty eight to thirty two as prime right? He's in that exact spot where you would want him. So I yes, I'm all in on that Chris Brian move, and especially because he can play third base. When Justin Turner is no longer able to play third base. You move Turner over to I and you hear I'd say you're not proposing we make the trade right now. No. But I would vote what you know. What it was? You know, what they would ask for Walker? Bueller? Yeah. I'm not trading. Yeah. Even not even for Chris friend. He's untradable Lockerbie. Stop it. Lock your dealer. I would never ever trade. You wouldn't train for my trout..

"On ESPN dot com early this afternoon. Headline reads cubs opened a trading third baseman Kris Bryant, and then the the media the article comes in paragraph two where it says it's possible to the cubs will train, and perhaps is soon as this winter as part of their early season offseason. So he basically makes the statement that I think echoes your overall sentiment. Yeah. That's that was my theme. When we discussed that writes that you're looking to add to your impact players, not subtract. Right. If anything they lacked impact bats last year. Yes, they lacked the offense when they needed it feel talked about our offense a being broke. Our offense is broke. And you want to really make your offense broken trading. Kris Bryant Kris Bryant twenty seven still three years away from his free agency thing, I don't believe what BUSTER wrote was anything for clicks. I believe that that that's out there. And that they have said look, and perhaps they've called other teams that say, hey, just for general purposes. What would you be willing? Knock our socks off. Yeah. That's what all teams do. Most teams are do you know smart well-managed teams are well run team. But when I read the article, I termed it, a one hundred one proposition a long shot deal. And I you want Chris Bryant coming back from injury ready to prove that he's still an MVP. And I believe he is I don't I think last year is really her and it was really hard for him to play. And or Harper and they'd wanna get rid of Kris Bryant, that's not how you make your offense better. Why think you even entertain the factor here because I think the fact that they are there's even whispers of them not being involved in in the free agency derby, and that there may be some budget issues that to me is like one of the more surprising stories of the office. Yes. Yes. And it's sort of been a theme. But again, the one thing THEO didn't say, maybe this goes under the guideline of what was written by sully and Theo's quo about there are no untouchables. He didn't come out and say, we are not trading. Kris? Bryant is correct. He he didn't say that. He did say, you know, we're lucky to have some impact players, and we're looking to add to them, not subtract. So again, I thought it was a long shot, and I'd be comforted by that. If I was a cubs fan. Yeah. Yeah. And I I don't think a lot of cubs fans. Needed to become for me. I think it's fair to say, there's some instability currently in Theo's regime, your thank you keep replacing pitching coaches, and hitting coaches, I mean that doesn't speak to stability. Does it? No. I mean, when you're constantly talking about changing people, and then you also suggest that this is the last year of Jo Jo Madden's, you know, we're not going to entertain thoughts of extending him. And by the way is coming back and he's more enthusiastic or he's more fired up about this season. I think it speaks to you know, a whole big, hey, what the hell's going on? "How about this from BUSTER only within the last half hour? The Chicago Cubs are open to trading Kris Bryant, I can't believe it. How about that? Harris the thought process behind it. According to BUSTER only of ESPN number one. He this year. Struggled was banged up at shoulder problems. Only played one hundred games to seventy two with thirteen home runs. Number two. They have had trouble reaching long-term agreements with him in the past. He's a Boris guy. Turns twenty-seven in January, and he is about to get much more expensive as a move toward free agency eligibility after the twenty twenty one season crispy, he's arbitration eligible for three more years. Yeah. Kris Bryant who so far in his career. As a total has put up some major numbers. Okay. In four seasons. Call three and a half with one hundred games this year one hundred and seven home runs stranded. Twenty six runs batted in an opium of nine hundred. I mean, look. He peak is an MVP already thirty nine and one zero two in the year that they won the World Series in two thousand sixteen had twenty nine hundred seventy three RBI's last year. Kris Bryant, you make a deal for Chris Bryan. If you're the Yankees above maybe Machado above maybe Bryce, Harper Machado, only cost you money. Harper one. This is my point. I mean does this our producer shumur? I said do you think that the cubs are in on Machado? Do you think this is? Machado is I guess an upgrade possible. See Machado is a massive upgrade over Kris Bryant John is going to be really expensive to well. Maybe they just feel like they can't get a deal. And maybe they I can't imagine them offering more than what Harper got offered right. Thirty year. Did they all from thirty year twenty a year? Arbitration eligible so long term deals long-term probably quite not that much because they were trying to buy out some of those arbitration years or maybe you're a free agency. But that Boris always let's go to free agency. Always. Yeah. I shouldn't say always but ninety nine he's twenty seven zero. And then maybe he'd be thirty by the time. I get two free agency. Saw what happened with the market last year was a little bit frozen. You know, thirty is an looked at like it was maybe a couple of years ago. For the Mets. I just don't know what the Mets possibly. Zack wheeler. Syndergaard. Oh, not Syndergaard talking about Kris Bryant, it's either going to be Syndergaard or degrom in the deal..

"He's not going to play this week. He might not play in the playoffs either. So drop Didi gregorius Carlos Correa and Kris Bryant, you realize career hitting one seventy four since the all-star break and one ninety five in home games. Oh, you know why? The Astros playing this week obviously has a back injuries admitted that manager has Kris Bryant with the shoulder. Clearly not healthy, but they do need him so they can at least win the division. I didn't drop guys like that. If they're not going to help you, you're not gonna. Use them cut the right. That's the key. And as a matter of fact, in all my leagues where I was making these moves for the final week, it really doesn't matter whether you keep a guy who got you to this point if you're not gonna play him in the final week and it's a weekly lock, you don't need them. You can cut him. It's not a problem. Nobody can pick them up and use them against you because the season's over. By the way, Brian, I I'm thinking about I almost cut them based on only the timing of when our fabric which was five, five eastern on Sunday. I kept him just because I can wait until seven o'clock for the games on Monday night, but if I needed him today, if I could make a move. Yeah, he'd be on my cut list. All right. We'll get to the pictures a little bit later on as we normally do. Let's move it along. Now anything from this past week that we weekend, that we should discuss them looking at the player raider for the past week. And you know, it's hard to tell with some of these guys. I mean, obviously we've been talking about Montessori and with Maryville quite a bit. Townie fan has been terrific with the raise. I don't know why wasn't what the cardinals buddy. He is now Luke voi- with all this power, you know he wasn't doing it as a car, no, but Kyle Hendricks kind of turned his season around anything. Any like thing that you noticed over the weekend that you'd like to discuss? Not a lot stood at their other than we were saying a minute ago, just the way that the playoff races are pulling down. So it's really a question of do we want to talk about guys for next? I mean, everybody's going to talk about Blake, snail and the quest for the Cy Young. I mean, that's an exciting story, but it doesn't have a lot of relevance fantasy because he gets potentially one more this year because he gets one more start. They could always shut them down. Keep him on a pitch count, which is going to be calm. In the weekend. I mean, you know, we've mentioned before, is he a top ten starter for next season, but mostly I'm thinking about the minor things. I mean. Pitchers being shut down. I'm looking at the pirates getting eliminated. Joe Musco got shut down for the year. I have Jamison tone ton of shares, is he going to lose that final start over the weekend? I, I think that's kind of like the big big push for me. This finally. I think it's fair in my in my history of playing not a whole lot happens to change the standings in the final week. That's not to say it never was not true. We've talked about the close races, you and I, but that wasn't a result of like a major shift in the final week. I wasn't up five points on you and that you know, when who is it a hit the home run, you know, like Jimmy Rollins at the three run home on the final day, it wasn't..

"Stability and? Stuff, he said none playing, all over the place batting all over the place any. Darn well since that early months I think, he's played great at third up until yesterday let's, give them a little bit of break but just to go to your next other question man. Is David Bodey been impressive both at. The plate and in the field at two position so I might have to vote him he's healthy, and always probably gonna get a lot, of playing. Time with Brian out Let's. Bring in results let's find out has. Been on the board for about two hours what the fans say erica's dry ski Who will have better numbers for the final two months now every hoping it's Kris. Bryant don't get Is, gonna be David bony law he's a AAA I know that's why it's interesting question what defense say who will have the better final, two months number. Lies Bodey or Brian de l. fifty eight percent of the voters. Say Kris Bryant but it's close, it is Very interesting When you when you see Brian and play with that shoulder for the last two, months you you're kinda like you're underwhelmed so I can. Get that I can. Get why it's kind of an even. Split there Without Darvish I believe the cubs will be toast but without Hayward being a. Hayward we saw the. For, the all-star break they're. Going to have a tough way to go also what has happened Jason Heyward not. To say he was willing, as the Jay Don last. Week and a, half his swings are. Terrible, again, he's hitting little poop ball leader field Fred told is patented five grand balls and everybody's strikes out against, so it's no big deal but his swing legs back. I know Fred some. Thoughts on this also Jesse let's go That's a good question I haven't followed as closely as maybe, even you're you're, talking about here because when he goes the. Opposite field I like it now I don't care if it's a line shot or a bloop at least he's he's. Going where it's pitched and doing the right things with his swing but but you know you may. Not be wrong. You may not be wrong it on I. Don't have the numbers since the all-star, break maybe you guys do it does. Feel like he's leveled off a little. Bit I feel like when we talk, about these other, guys with the, bigger injury problems and stuff Hayworth kind. Of the least of their problems but I know. What, you're saying without. Bryant and the fact that jobs gonna put Hayward right there in the middle you kind of. Need him to keep. It, going for the front. Of for the final two months so I don't I don't have an answer to. That question maybe he's reverted, back to some habits but. At least he, is going apple so. I do, like that Five his last twenty eight he's he had. One nice game. The first game after the break you had. Three hits hasn't had more than one, after that but I was five for. Twenty eight th you know No it's not awful but you. Know he's also seems like maybe. They're. Busting them inside more because he was getting his arms extended and that's one of the things that was. Able able to go the other way they were pitching them outside maybe they're pitching them. Inside, jam now he's not able to hit the, ball is definitely the pitch in the. Past that would crush him fastball so if that's if that's, gotten back to being. His weakness and that's, a? Big problem I I gotta. Watch them a little. Bit closer but it's not a. Bad point chintzy great job as always and you're always a PC always say I love Saint, Louis it's a great town right I've never said that Luckily they don't, know? Where I am so This. Is our last trip I think right. Yeah so I'm outta here after tomorrow night They ramp up the season the cubs. Cardinals here I mean there's only so? Many, times you can go. To the arch Murphy what. Else are you supposed to, do right, but. I'm. Not claustrophobic if I hear one person It's, boring and it's stupid but everyone does want once Jesse Rogers so after the game my mother watches Eighty-one bulls games and a hundred and sixty two. Cubs games and I always call it after the game you know what she said after when I called her right after the game studios to, they have to leave that. Pitcher Montgomery in so long Longtime I didn't have anybody But that's what. The average casual? Fan says you know what we know how the ramifications, and the ins and outs but. It just doesn't look good? You know what I mean and you could tell he was just throwing batting practice in that last couple in in those last in that whatever anyone who's, gonna hit fourth-inning I think? But what, can you do how many how many pitchers are you gonna go short on to. Have to use that bullpen it's crazy this year on that starting staff other than Lester and once in a while Hendrix or once in, a while could Tana. It's it's been really rough it is a surprise first-place with the way they've. Pitched out of the rotation, thank God, for that offense you know sort of maturing. In front of our eyes and the interesting thing to me at least, is this week they've they've they've. Scored more than two runs once that was in. The, comeback cover behind game, they you know those four the so far this week they've scored two. Runs or less so Sylvia it, going to, be a little bit of an up and down battle right. Now Just wait till you. Get, back home Padres are in town you get the Mets coming up at the time Yeah August will, be a little bit better but then you don't. Have many off days, down the, stretch there so I. Look I never said it was this division was over other people are saying you know shot or no shot they're. Gonna win by seven and a. Half games that I absolutely did not think. That stock is now in, Milwaukee they cut the lead last night. I think it's gonna be a great race if the cubs lose. Out then then they've blown a great. Opportunity but this thing. Is not over by any means in my mind Your assignment for next Saturday if the wheels fall off Darvish Puts this year is the next. Week you got a whole week to work and don't laugh, would there be a chance? With his pride from his culture That he would retire at the end of. This show back to Japan and and give all gives. One hundred hundred million a hundred and five million dollars back We'll work on that next week okay he's a very very proud he doesn't want to have the fans down on him he's letting everybody down just thrown out there Let? Me? Tell you. Fred would care could care less. Boom. For one hundred, million he'd. Be booed all the way to gloomy all booed every. Saturday what are you talking right that's right Way. That they were looking? For. Sportsman's park All right Jesse Rogers I know we're running, late Murph Fred vote. Right now At ESPN one thousand.

"Things, first the injury report fans wanna know, number one net Kris Bryant. Darvish. Then we'll get into. Hamble so let's? Start with Kris Bryant? Young man it's all over the board he says I don't know when I'll. Be? Back but I'm a thousand percent sure, I will be back what does. It what does that mean Jess Well it's? Not And not serious enough to. Shut them down. That's for sure I think it's. Just about. Resting I can't I can't predict when that when that inflammation is going to go away or when he's going to pick up a baton appeal as bad as he did when he when he went down the, second time here but I would think it's gonna be a while because I don't know why you would do the. Same exact thing that's the, definition? Of insanity right so I would I would think they're going to prescribe a little. Bit more rescue I tried to push on that yesterday and he just simply wouldn't go anywhere except for when he is feeling better and that shoulder and, the doctor. Say it's okay he's going to pick, up that bat but I think it's going to be longer than the first time around it only it only makes sense to me because otherwise you're going to be back here in a month doing the, same thing Jesse we put you. On every Saturday I don't. Think, that's insanity The only thing you do. That is saying you're right The full of. Any there, is no such thing as a sanity clause you know we talked. About this earlier jazz about Kris, Bryant according to Madden this was earlier in the week you said Kris Bryant shoulder discomfort became, even more, apparent Monday what he tried to. Restructure swing Dow Murph and I were a little confused, did he, try to restructure his swing from the home run swing the launch angle or. From the singles. Hitter swing that he had after it? I got, hurt how was he trying to restructure it you know All I know is that on the follow through is when the. When the pain would would would increase or whatever. You wanna call it or feel it the. Funding because yesterday he was, talking about it when, it was swings and misses that would hurt him more than. When he made contact and that and I think we can all, picture what what he's kind of saying it's that full extension back so I think that's where Joe sought he he re sort of aggravated at some time against the cardinals, so over the weekend tried to. Play Monday and then Monday was it just could. Not and, Joe notice the sort of different looking swing I don't know exactly. What it looked like you know, watching that closely but I think we we all know what he means when he swung and, missed he, felt it a lot.
