"Did you no not at all. I mean of her. Snl but now you guys seem like of kindred spirits. I don't know why. I just feel like you would know each other just smart. Well i'm really glad to know are now and i'm so thankful for her friendship and the the comedy gold. She bestowed on me and all of us. You know it's a moment that when there's not a day and i believe everybody in our casts would say that there was not a day that we took that for granted that entire experience every moment of the seven years that we were getting to make this show that we could come to the today show and uses the today show. As like part of our fictional world was crazy. awesome and Yeah there wasn't a day that went by that. Any of us took it for granted. We were so thankful that we were still on the air. I mean every year. We remember the day that we're either gonna get picked up or not picked up and all like you could feel the energy in the room on that day of filming when we knew it might be pronounced and every year. We were not sure whether we would get another season or not and we all really wanted more seasons and we luckily got seven of them and it was a golden time a great great time. You can tell in jena that you had studied a lot of people that you work with. Perhaps in your business and brought it all to that reform. What did you say about starlets. And the business with dan. I was not making any commentary. Like i told you. I have radical compassion for but there couldn't have been you know a grader. Character to thrive and get the chance to flourish in that particular style of comedy which i greatly enjoy doing. I mean you know. I could poke fun of myself a lot of the time and and others that i had experienced show..

"I think we have that we were talking the same problem in our parent teacher conferences. It's funny but let's read the room. Yeah yeah yeah. But i mean i think ally mcbeal is fair to say. I don't know if it surprised people but it's baby your first experience with something that huge where oh this is a cultural thing that people are talking about the next thing and yeah we're in the middle of some event that was happening right right. Yeah it was my first tv series. And i was very good friends with to flockhart from just a new york theater scene and we had both flown out for our final scream tests together. We actually shared an agent at the same time too so he booked all our flights together. And we this is sort of i. Sum this up is sort of kind of the whole experience kind of felt like we flew out coach. We've got the jobs while we were there. Both of us and we flew back. I warm warm fresh cookies and all which was the first for me and It sort of explains the whole experience like we went in. None of us had ever been on tv. We were all like a lot of us. Were from new york. According to french smith was the girl who had all the tv experience when we went to her for all the questions and like. How does this work do we buy. Crew gifts is. This is this right. Is this within sag regulations and all the things we just didn't know she was sort of our leader. And i remember the day. I realized that ally mcbeal was hit was i was driving home in la traffic and from a from a work day and people were analyzing it the next after the day after the episode on the on the radio and i don't even know if i knew what a water cooler show was that i don't i'm sure that was a phrase prior to that but i'm not sure but i was like oh we're on that show..

"I was so happy to be asked to still do what i love to do. And so i think each one each project. We're talking about right now. A special meaning to me because of that especially and i haven't i. I'm so thankful that. I recently my first audition. I was eight years old. I waited outside of a broadway theater at an open call that i circled like in backstage magazine. I got my chance to sing. Sixteen bars for an amazing woman. Graciela danielle. she plucked me out of like five hundred kids. I don't know how many roger for this it was. Adults and kids alike being picked and out of the five hundred something kids. She chose me and she gave me my first yes. She gave me my first open door. And i got to see her just recently like two weeks ago and she's being honored this tony awards for her. She's getting a special tony for her. Immense terrific creative body of work in the in musical theater and in the broadway theatre alike. She's up plays musicals. To and i'm i'm so happy that she's getting on her because she gave so many people there i yes. She gave so many people there opportunity for me to still do what i love until i got to just a few weeks ago and i i started crying like i've never the thank you and the last time i was nominated for a tony my whole speech was gonna be about her but i lost like you don't know this but my whole speech was going to be about thanking you for letting me be in this business and giving me my first. Yes so i'm just going to tell it to you now so you gave me. It wasn't really a speech. I paraphrased at this time but backed up to tony gave her. You'll get your chance back up there. I mean what this is part of the reason people love you so much is because you're so real and there's gratitude i.

"Fear is always good. I think because it can push you to try something new and that when you're not sure you can pull it off. I think it it triggers me to wanna try. You know it's interesting. It is just this thing. That and i'm sure other actors to this to that you've interviewed but i'll read description is really wanted to do it but i don't get that feeling and i'm like oh and i like i guess i'm not going to do this or i don't feel it's not doing that to me. And so it's just an inner instinct of either the challenge or the excitement or what you you. Just get that that vibe inside. There's been some scripts that i think i wanted to really do. And i like. I'm not going to get this one. I don't have that. That buzzer that thing inside of me like a challenge. Clearly something that i don't know. Can i pull this off when you read the script. Oh yeah yeah. I like that and then if it's not there i'll try to make it harder harder for myself so we've talked about this before but name that tune has been so much fun to watch. Yeah yeah and that's just you being you which is actually a character. You don't play very much. Which is to say like which might be for the best. Here's my small doses. But it's you get to be funny and you get to do little singing and dancing. You get to be you. You person that i know well. That's very sweet. So how much fun is that show to do. Much five and i grew up watching name that tune and i grew up in a very musical family. Parents do community theater and my dad was in a fifties do up groups so we would yell at the television every time we could see how many notes we could get in and try to get the songs of you know compete against each other a friendly family way and so yet when it came to me it was such a gift..

"Of loving broadway loving what i do that i had as a young young child like wanting to just dreaming of just being able to do this. I sat there going and the back. You the said there's really no said it's the the the back wall of the actual theater which that stuff that i get all those chills that was just like oh my god yes yes like. I need to be there. I wanna see every show so it's still lives in me. And it's part of the original dream. Part of the original goal of living within proximity of broadway and being inspired by so many broadway shows kid that made me want to be in this business and then i still feel that same excitement and butterflies and thrill seeing someone else. Do it as well as me getting a chance to do it in central park for everybody who was my richest fans who were able to come in support. You gotta have rich fans. That's yeah so did that. Give you the bug. Then the broadway bug again. I mean you've won. Tony awards you've been nominated for tony's great career on the stage. When i get back together you gotta be honest bug as always within me I find that like my home base. I find like when i get to do a show on broadway ignites all my tools and everything sort of the original concept away the original the oh g. of who i am and then i feel it in florence my other performances. I feel then. I'm ready to be better in a tv show or try harder at a movie or so or bring more characterization to an animated job or whatever the whatever the request is i find that those still my soul to then inform everything else that i do what i feel. Lucky about is that i have been able to use. Use those original skills in so many places where you wouldn't expect. It was the demand like on the today show at nine in the morning..

"Bradley trainer on Let's revisit the Jane Creek House Key situation. It's Jane Creek. Oh, Kousky, if you wanna know the truth. Jane Creek House Key, of course, rumored to be dating Minnesotan CEO. My clindell the my pillow guy White. Remember that story? Yeah, I spent a whole week talking about this rumor came out of the clear blue. And we were all like Would you? What? What? How what? Um And then the the rumor was like, Oh, yeah, they were dating and like he would buy her expensive gifts and alcohol and then they would fight and then they break up and it was extremely detailed. And then at the end of the story, as told by the Daily Mail. The two of them both denied ever knowing each. Yeah, they both denied it. But then, Page six showed up and said, Well, actually, we've heard rumors of this before. Um, and we're not sure where this came from. Well, there's an exclusive from Emily Smith over it. Page six, and she Is just the bee's knees when it comes to gossip, and she says That, according to a source, Jane Krakowski is actually dating a guy by the name of David Rockwell. Apparently she's been dating him for years. He's an architect. Ah, couple of years Now, at least, however, she has been dating him quote very quietly. I don't know what that means. They just whisper when they're together. They tiptoe around the house. Very quiet. I love you. The source said that the Jane's been dating him for a couple of years. As I said, however, very quietly on then. Goes on to illicit something that perhaps Is it an excuse for how we ended up with the Jane Krakowski, Mike Lyndall love. Experience, tha source said, Quote the source speaking to Emily Smith over at Page six, quote. Jane? No, I just said those words friends are speculating If the strange story about Jane and silly my pillow guy was just a game of telephone, maybe somehow Rockwell, which is the last name of the guy she is dating. Turned into Lindo in rumor Ville. What? Uh, like, so presumably, she means you know, like Barb called Betty and Betty told Francine and Francine. Told Ginger. You hear Gene's going out with some guy? I'm checking. You remember his name Is something something else that Lind l Lindell? Yeah, that sounds right, Lindelof. His first name is I don't know. It's probably Mike or something. The my pill guy. Yeah, that guy. That's a long stretch because I will just remind you his name is actually David Rockwell. Somebody Mike Lyndall Rockwell. I mean, the only thing they share is two syllables and Anele. That's it actually to wells and any I mean, sometimes people don't think but Not the people think a little bit like I think it's Z. Holly. That was the smartest thing you've said No. Why? I just want to give people credit where Credit's due that people don't think, but sometimes they think a little bit. Yeah, This is not even a little bit. This is like the negative little bit. Okay, so I wanna like I want to acknowledge that somebody spent some time creating that weird story, and her name is Emily Smith, writing for the Daily Mirror for the page sex. But did you see we got an interesting tweet that I would like to give some attention, too. Ah, Yesterday we got this. Interesting tweet from a listener by the name of Kristen, who said the following and I'd like to sit with this and marinate in it. Is the my pillow guy in Jane Krakowski needs do the my pillow guy in Jane Krakowski need publicity because she is hosting a new game show right now. And I think there's something there right Because were we talking about Jane Krakowski a week ago, but I mean, yes, and I want to give a gold star toe listener. President. Because that's the kind of thinking that will get you on team Cobra, right like that's that's right up our alley like you are using your, um noodle effectively. The only problem I have with that is like Michael in Del I agree with you, but also okay. I know what could get us some attention for my new show. Let's pretend I'm dating this crazy guy That's getting a lot of attention for trying to do some horrible thing. It is. So ASA nine that it worked right? Like, I don't know. I'm not saying that he was the right person, but clearly it worked. Yes, I do. I think that this was a attempt by Jane Creek House Keys, people No, I do think perhaps the opposite could be true. That You know, Michael and l. I think Mike Lindell has more to try to get attention from her away from then Jane Creek House Key. I think Jane Krakowski is not the kind of celebrity who's like I need to create a fake story to get attention. I do think maybe if you paid attention to mark lintel little that maybe he's a fan of that behavior. She wouldn't shut off. You are laying go there. It is. Also, if you look at the story who Who Mm. You don't know care for their who gets more out of it. Well, as I've said before, better and better. Yeah, because that is out, kicking his coverage. Jane Cook House. Key is In many ways, the more Like if I were Jane Creek. How saving person? Yes, In trying to get attention, saying is the word you're looking for. And like, I don't know. Pretty and successful and mainstream me and like he outkicked his coverage is all.

It's the funniest thing is when they pushed it the one time that they push and they pushed it to the day after the inauguration and that was so funny and then it got pushed again it was it was gonna air. It was airing last night. It's going happen. I go to my app. i'm like let's let me see what's going on with this versus. I open it and we have what i view in this show. Bobby you have ashanti on top in a silver throne. She's flanked by sarah candles and three d. Dorito nacho cheese and looks amazing. I would eat those doritos now. I need those datas. He was below her. We have a top and a bottom a kisha coal davey blue thrown with flanked by ceramic and cool ranch doritos. The throne is empty is sitting there. And guess what who didn't get the queen treatment for the throne. She didn't get three d. Britos she only got regular doritos. Make three d. Cool ranch doritos yet. I don't know if we are to say that they could have made a special bag for we are. I know ashanti asked for three d. Cool ranch doritos. Ashanti would have gotten three torito's and shanti. Can you hear me. I can hear you mommy. That's it that's that's it. Finally here. I don't know who's all attending because at this point we just we running way to behind. You look beautiful. Beautiful absolutely amazing. You look absolutely america. Ashanti up just a little bit please. So what's going on. How about get this thing started is the seat is empty. And i'm like where's kisha and a just like vamping. She's just like talking chad. And i'm like where the fuck is kiesha. Call i leave. I kind of forget to go back. She's thereby biden. Really think about it anyways it comes out later that show that kisha cole was an hour late to the verses over an hour over an hour where late because she wasn't happy with like the quality of herself it was very vintage versus which i knew it was very very messy. It was very much like the equipment wasn't working and she said. I want to apologize for not sitting in that seat. Okay because i was there. And i should have set down. I should have just sat in the seat. No matter if i felt like you know the visual wasn't clear or you know i'd say my music was going to be right or whatever it was. You know what i'm saying. I think that more sunday anything. You wanted me to sit be president. He threatened or knowing that she was just in the wings she was there. She just wasn't in the chair. She said you know they got to fix the internet connection. Because you know you're going to be another situation like teddy riley. Oh my god teddy. Riley one hearst versus. I think the picture looks fine. I'm actually quite confused. I also am confuses to when we went from going from having them in the same room like brandy and monica tobacco. These like separate rooms like what is verses like go independent again. Like i'm just confused. It's really it's really weird. What's happening with versus. But this is true versus lake vs supposed to be sort of chaos in every episode bills to be a little different chaos. Yes it's supposed to be pure chaos. The empty throne is absolutely iconic. It's it's great ashanti just on top being like i'm gonna win this. You know i'm going to win this. I can play every single. J. lo hit out there. That's all me. That's all my voice. Nick somebody get asked if i have plans. I'm going to be like. Oh sorry. I have plants. Oh yeah what are your plans. I'm sitting at beating three doritos and lady gaga oreos on the couch. Those are my plans. Those plans love. Where do i get these. Three to read. As i want them so badly because while i love lady gaga orioles. This is what i'm more interested in actually concert. Exactly three torito's are also easier going to be easier to find than a specialty cookie. I love those. I love the shape. I love when they came in a little like round canister thing and you just like they were tiny a texture. I gotta find look today. What's next.

"Day. It's on lifetime. I didn't want i only watched a little bit of it. It was it was okay. I wouldn't say it was like incredible. I don't think any of these movies are incredible. But not now the wendy williams one might be might be like art but you know and also you never forget that south sound pepe art in them. They're they're involved in the making of the movie so it's always they're always the in so as wendy so you have a little bit of that there where you have to remember that it's like they're involved they're doing attended press does move. You got a ton of press. It got they were on today show they. Were on the breakfast. Slow on talk shows just like salt and pepper everywhere. You know who's not everywhere talking to the talk shows spinderella. Who is again. Her name is deidra roper. So after the movie premieres and there's no way spinderella didn't know this was happening. She saved movie. It's not like she's not in the movie these headlines make it seem like spinderella is an in. The movie and character is actually part of the story bought. She was not part of the creative team ak she was given a cut of the proceeds. She wasn't given any sort of control active producer credit or anything like that. So it's like the tmz headlines all of them are like the tmz headlines which spinderella trashes salt-and-pepper bio-pic. You wrongfully excluded me. I was like are they just cutting her out of the. It's like i thought i was like that's i was like. How can you do that because know that they're are out right right but no she's just not in it so she waited until the movie came out to release like a twitter thread where she says it begins with sorry but i speak on the lifetime special which is too crazy. I have to say because she's giving the movie press if she's trying to disparage the movie you're doing the opposite like any press is good press. I didn't know the movie was coming out. Now until i saw those the headlines that were like spinderella claps back at the salt and pepper. Lifetime movie i was like oh the movies coming out but also she wouldn't have gotten this much attention. Had it not been tied to the movie. You know like i think she it was the right time to do it. But it's also going to give the movie higher ratings like us in in result of it but she says sorry but i got to speak on this lifetime special too often black woman who have made meaningful contributions in their industry left out of historical narratives back when salt and pepper was building. Our legacy the our. They're our legacy which is rooted in empowering women. I could not have dreamed that this same group would one day. Disempower me where. It's not fully express my disappointment when i learned the decision was made if your main message is empowering women in your music speaks to that it is kind of contradictory and actually works more harder against you to treat a woman in your band like this whether or not. She's a founding member whether or not she you know whatever the reason is it. kind of. That's hypocritical that's what that's what the most glaring at of all this is to me. And that sorta argument is and she makes it clear. She's like this is a problem. I i feel like. I'm a woman being silenced by another woman. That's what i mad at. And she's like. I'm not mad at monique. Paul who's the actor. Plays donovan a who has only been in like two things but play spinderella in the movie. But she's great knit. I just wish. I could have shared perspective with her. Like i wish. I would have had a little bit of creative input in a story but i was not given the opportunity to have input and this in case you forgot which i forgot. Spinderella was a member of salt and pepper until two years ago. Like from one thousand nine hundred seven to two thousand nineteen. He had their fallout. That followed that. We do not really know many details over. She was fired like every report is that she was terminated from the band. She was asked to leave but after that happened. We never got a reason. Why and then at one point she sued salt and pepper for wrongful termination or some sort of thing and they settled out of court so like all of this stuff is gray area. We don't really know what happened between these three people but we do know that salt and pepper are like still joined in the hip. Just like your salt'n'pepa canisters in your kitchen like they're not separating anytime soon mine are joined at the head the are next to each other but they're not like connected well. They're not like those hugging one. The hugging ones but they're you know they go hand in hand. Go hand in hand. I have assault. I got a someone gave me a free pair of. But it's a it's a pepper grinder and assault grinder. And i'm like what am i going to do with. I hate assault grinder. It's so i just want to shape the salt. I spring with salt my fingers. And it's this. You have to put a special salt in the grinder to make it work. And i'm just like this sucks anyway. I'm but then but they look good as a pair you know you don't want separate salt and pepper just like this song grinder all goo-good pepper grinders game changer. So oh my god but so salt pepper. Go on tour. They're getting a lot of press. They're they're doing great Are not like who's they're not like a. They're vintage their job but they're not like well i haven't heard from there around and so they go on breakfast club and they say this cost fifty thousand dollars every time. Say that name so really really alloy lawsuit is has been been settled it. Actually that sent. It got sent to mediation and we in been done. The spinderella thing. I'm going to try to keep a real short. What people. I don't know if they realized i think when you see the movie is first of all song. Pepe were friends. We had a male. Dj right i we had the first spinderella and then we did the whole Happening vicious in herbie run in this. Been morella at that point. We were already established as salt'n'pepa we will already established as company together. We are partners always have been partners. Spinderella wasn't addition to what we had already created listening to that even the way that she starts it with like..

"Out with kristin cavallari did. Did you watch any of their adventures on instagram. I was having my own adventure. But i know. I did not and adventure of the jay cutler kind i am not kissing entailing so what. She came to town with her friend. Justin anderson and the four of us with craig. Conner had dinner kroll thirty-three told us while chatting about his popular instagram picks. We all been in contact ever since we're in this big group chat and the group is active. We had a blast with them. And i'm gonna take a trip to see them in nashville sometime soon. If you look at the texts that jay allegedly sent her. I think i was like what was he directly mad at or responding to because at what point in the text he says i respect you. She says i have nothing. But respect you and your privacy. I respect i respect your family and i would never say anything to jeopardize you and your family. And he goes didn't seem like that was the case. maybe it was accidental. I don't know no one wants this mess. I appreciate you saying this. So it's sort of like. I feel like what was j. mad at her about and i'm like was it. This was the hand for saying that. I think her text might be missing because someone pointed this out to me too he says. Do you want to hang out next weekend. No message back okay. Don't stress about it. I bought the flight yesterday because it was the last one. It doesn't work. We can change it. No response back. Oh she deleted her response. So i think she would deleted some of her responses on that end because he's talking it looks like he's talking to no one then the next tax come a lot later in their conversation. It's almost like she's proving that they that he wanted to hang out with her. But then saw you're also seeing kind of the downfall of that relationship or towards the end of or maybe more present time where he's like. Why are you leaking stuff about us hanging out. Why are you talking about hanging out. The thing that she says on watch what happens live essentially confirms that she's seeing him right. She says i don't kiss. She does a selfie with him and says too bad. It didn't work out like she knows what she's doing. Originally when i saw the kristen and j. stuff. I didn't know any of this context. I was like what is this. These two are freaks. I'm scared of them. No thank you but it turns out that it's a direct response to all of this. It's like oh these southern charm c. List reality stars think that they can come after us right absolutely. Not honestly. they're right they run. They can they can't. They can't absolutely cannot. I never heard of this madison legras person outside of straight headlines and i was just looking up like what sort of coverage does this woman get. The southern charm cast dishes on madison lacroix spreading an s. t. d. rumor so she spread a rumor that someone gave someone else. Claudia and then. I feel like this quote perfectly encapsulates. Madison lacroix based on what i know about her. It was an attack instead of discussing what was going on lacroix attacked with something that was just so not related. The committee stuff. She was throwing her boyfriend of the bus. She was doing everyone under the bus. So it was like this this woman she loves about us. She's constantly thrown under the bus. Just watch out your next to madison. Lacroix anna bus because in a few under the bus the bus. She knows the bus schedule and she will throw. You knows when the royals the schedule. That's what they say about her. She knows schedule madison lacroix. She knows the bus the bus schedule it was spoke. About it oregon. I deal in facts. Okay.

"Talented lily. Reinhart the talented really reinhard. This is very strange who is impersonating lily. Reinhart and how did you do it. And i really do think that in order for this impersonation to have gone off without a hitch. They needed to impersonate to people. They needed to impersonate bassist and lily reinhart. Because why would the reiner be like high seventeen. It's me lilly interested in interview like that's immediately fake right middleman w or like somebody from the show. It's very weird and it had to have been all over email. I guess maybe not like it. Had you've been in taxed god maybe the impersonator diddly reinhard voice. I don't know what a lily reinhart sounds like. But there's a chance but it's like so much more saas that what happened. The reveal was just. Kim roman a language the jasmine solve interview kentucky mckim. Rav i the thing is is like that's even even that's even harder to do the voice or whatever. God i'm so confused as to what in what here and there really is. No one really knows what happened. The information is really not out there. So i hope that they follow up. Maybe they can write about it or something. That's interesting finally something. I'd read on seventeen magazine. I mean i feel like it's something that will be on the cut like what happened with the seventeen man. An a deep dive and investigation into what went wrong in seventeen magazine. Okay as it went up apparently and no one got screenshots of it. You can't even find the original. But i mean it just kind of crazy like what was the realization process of it all. It's like do you think that they put it up and then somehow reached out to the real lily or or like. How did that even or riverdale sought really quickly the p the pr people from dylan's at this isn't true or it's all very confusing but if you have any details let us know because it's like there's so many possibilities all we can do is speculate at this point but like you're right. The weirdest thing is that there are no screenshots of this anywhere. It's not cash it's not saved the fan. The riverdale fans would screenshot stuff immediately. And it's nowhere. It's like without seventeens official statement. I would be willing to believe that. This is the entire thing as fake. Like the entire. Like none of this ever happen. But it's just. There's not a lot of like clarification. Around what even happened. So it's like all we have are these tweets from fans who are even trying to explain to each other because even they don't even get what happened here. Which who do you think. You could successfully impersonate. Oh my which the question is. Which ship would i impersonate to defend to the death. You know young. which who could i. I don't know i could do. I could do a lot of them over email. Yeah for sure. No problem babe no problem lucy hale the real lucy hale jamal dot com on like. Yeah pretending i could do maggie jilin hall. Why would you could do her. What would you give an interview about just like any upcoming projects. My new house. I talked to architectural digest about my new house over email over. Email my new minute. My new apartment in wherever maggie legitimate hottest releases an instagram. That's like i don't know who that was but it wasn't me. I don't know why anyone would do that. And i know the challenge for the skill for the game for the record. I don't have a claw foot tub and my brand new brooklyn heights apartment. I don't know who says i did. But i do not have a new club but on you so hard for getting her aesthetic wrong. Because you'd would get at least a few details off to beyond to be fair about seventy five percent of what this impersonator said was spot on the rest of it. However under all fabricate desks and then we sort of landed on sharing desk we do have our own separate sections like. That's your section. And this is my section. These are all magnetic and i just hang up pictures and ideas and things that are inspiring me speaking of the biz. We'll do this pretty quickly because there isn't much to say but it is interesting in a way that hollywood light love a woman in business. Hollywood life who was started by bonnie fuller who is best known for her us. Weekly work by me. At least she kind of revitalize us weekly in two thousand and two she will. She launched it for winter and she was before that she was at marie. Claire and she was at cosmo in her osma. Us weekly is the sec. Today and she started hollywood life and then gave Sold it piece of it or whatever to penske media pm c. And now she says she's buying it back. Which is exciting all her. It's all citing bipolar hollywoodlife. Life has i feel like hollywood. Life is not my go-to go but it's pretty solid your like it. I like it. And i think it could be more dependable and i think she will make it. Maybe if she has full power make it more fun. I think that they're a. I think that they're just a dependable. A dependable site like it. It it. I think it does exactly what she wanted to which is to put the print tabloid aesthetic online. And i think a lot of places have tried to mimic that like E news has and Even the the tabloid official tablet websites star in touch. uk are like kind of clunky online hollywoodlife. Feels like i don't know it feels it's fun to read and it has that it has that prentiss that right and it's cheesy but i think with like her just as the helm and not like a media group behind it. She could really like run with a lot of weird stuff fun stuff and i'm like excited. I'm like oh. I'm going to start like really reading it now. I mean i it but like it's more like in an rss reader that i get sources and they get sources. It's just like one of the few and it's because of the bali. Bonnie fuller angle is just one of the few online only tabloid sites like that doesn't have a print we'll also so modeling tabloids are owned by legates switzer's kind of same place so it's nice to have an independent spot. You know like there are a lot of independents. I just mean like the biggies are all owned by the same company so they get the same information almost but if you if you clock out the places that are actually separate then it can be really nice to go there. Because you're getting some difference though. I think that humans have an innate desire to know the latest to have information. And i think it probably goes back to Means of survival like those who had the most information. Those were the people that survived. Okay moving on what's next. Oh god this is kind of actually. I love that i love this end. The more the more. I read about it the more interesting because aside it is no. I don't watch southern charm because it feels like such a mess and like i'm sure it was good at one point but if you're if i'm southern charm in two thousand and twenty one no that can't be me. I'm not doing that. I'm not watching it this year. And this person's fairly new to the cast to flick madison. Roy isn't even an og. Southern charm cheer bide mass and lacroix and Austin kroll were involved on the show and they have their own plotline with in that universe of southern charm again..

"Ways of hearing with musician writer podcast host Damon Krakowski Damon is the author of the book the new analog listening and reconnecting in a digital world he's also the host of a six part podcast ways of hearing and ways of hearing is also a book which like the podcast is packed with ideas about sound Damon writes and talks about analog sounds digital sounds about what is lost when sounds especially the sounds that might be considered nonessential or noise are not part of a telephone conversation or recording who decides what is important to hear when do sounds become noise and what about when you disappear into the world of sounds you hear only in your head thanks to portable headphones can you still be engaged with the world around you if you are concentrating on sounds only you can hear how has our sense of space of distance of time of completion finality the true meaning of a deadline how have those senses been distorted by digital media in the world of digital phone calls and digital recordings where we are and where we are sort of lost in space and time as Damon asks in the new analog how did means of communication and go from bridging the distance between us to isolating us in our own head space so on today's show we're going to be talking about sound and ways of hearing Damon could cut ski welcome to a public affair thank you very much well me on thank you for joining me today so Damon why did you write your book the new analog listening and re connecting in a digital world I well I'm I'm a musician more than a professional writer and I happen to us started my career in the late eighties because of my age at a time when there were no digital tools at least not in the studios for musicians at my level which is indie rock what we called college rock back then because this community stations like yours right like the V. O. R. T. and it didn't mean that we all went to college it was over we I did but it would have meant that we were our music was played on college stations college and community stations in any case there were no digital tools and then it was wasn't a lot of time house before our digital started flooding my life as a musician and so as I happen to live through this transition and it's been confusing I think it's confusing for all of us in a lot of ways his live through it but I have this particular sort of accidental perspective on it that I thought you know no one's going to get that again because our technological change happens in one direction really and you can't go backwards I mean there was a generation that saw the automobile come in and then that was it I mean from there on and we all accepted that internal combustion engines are part of our lives until we run out of fuel sin and the sounds of the internal combustion engine are part of our lives exactly you just can't get rid of it even if you're if you're focusing on getting rid of that you're still focused on that negation of that existing idea around you and digital music of digital tools are kind of the same way now for for all of us involved in music so I I certainly to write a kind of a testimonial really because I wasn't sure I had any great insights but I I was sure that I had this experience that wasn't going to be repeated and it might be worth documenting as honestly as I could what it really was like and also I think when you happen to live through a transition like that we all live through whatever transition happened during our lifetimes but you you have a different view of the new tools because they weren't there before for H. and again that's a view that disappears and I thought it could be valuable to people to to to have that so that's really how I went about writing a book originally it was just a document that experience and then how did that evolve into the podcast ways of hearing which then in turn became a perk well that the potters conventus anyway which is that my book to new analog is is a non fiction book kind of an extended essay about the switch from analog to digital sound and and I'm not a professional scholar but I try to be you know scholars like as as the subject required you have charts and graphs I have a few of some issues with us for not many but but in any case what happened was the the audio book was the rights to it was were purchased by audible dot com from my publisher and this is how the pockets came about because the public you know I got a call from agent my literary agent saying you know good news audibles gonna do an audio book and I said well okay you know I'd like to read it and they said well that may not be possible because when it turns out is audible dot com is owned by Amazon and it's a very very bottom line business like all these internet businesses that were all interacting with all the time now their margins are very small and they they depend on a kind of a very predictable set of costs and and and profits an audible dot com has everything time to home to a tee they didn't want they don't want to authors to be their own books in case offers take too much time well personal or professional actors going to going to do it quicker that was the presumption and you know I said back are you not familiar with according studios have made records my whole adult life I I really think I can handle this and then maybe sent in an audition tape so I did and I passed the audition so I got hired to read my gosh okay we're going the recording studio that's booked audible here in Boston Massachusetts where I listen and this connects to the whole topic that we're gonna be speaking about that the studio was actually built by the band the cars and is a music studio here in town and back part dos call back pay but now all it does is turn out audiobooks from audible dot com only worked a half because of course recording studios with the digital revolution have have have all been put out of business almost like your local Schurz some are in all the media yes I like movie theaters disappearing because of Netflix it's alright so here I was in kind of the remnants of of the old analog system doing work for digital company but of course the way the digital companies do business is very different so I came in and now I have been hired to do the my own reading and the engineers are all these you know bright young things out of Berklee college of music with their engineering degrees really nice kids and they were interested in the book because the book was actually that sounds like code is the first time the book we care being read here nothing and social let's seize the opportunity let's add sound into the book right is a great sound think of all the things we could do and they're like well we we've been Ross the boss and the boss calls audible dot com the answer comes back right away absolutely not because of course that's going to add time yes which will add expense so I was restricted to just reading the text word by word by word in fact the way they do these things as they put the book up of the PDF of the book up on a screen for the engineers to follow along and if you very even by a tiny bit they stop you and do it again because audibles instructed them to the audio book must be precisely the same as a text so I mean I couldn't even improvise in studio I even knows my own language so so I did this thing and it it felt very empty as an exercise or was or will this is not really an audio book in a way I which conceive of such a product this is just reading aloud and so I finish that novel what you know what I've what would I do if I've been given free range in the studio and I came up with that is a podcast and I and I approached some wonderful podcast professionals who live here in Cambridge Massachusetts where I live who run radio topia fantastic network nonprofit of some podcasts and I got a meeting with the Jewish appear there executive producer and she knew my music and she knew was interested in the book and we laid out this plan to our use sound to illustrate this ideas now then what I discovered is a podcast is not the same as a book and it's not the same as a record it is it's own medium its and medium that's in flux and is being invented right now but has its own demands and actually my language from my book didn't work at all in a podcast and even my approach as a writer and as a musician was not a really tailored to the format I really have to draw more on history of radio and our work with professionals and use sound the way that your son is been used in in in the history of radio documentaries and using Foley and all these kinds of production details that audio engineers who work in that form are familiar with it's different to making a record and I that's what happened so we made the six episode series call ways of hearing based that title and the idea of being a short series episodes is based on a book and a television series some of your listeners may know call ways as seen by the art historian John Bircher seventies in England still used in many art history classes and picked up in stores by all kinds of interested people in visual culture my idea was let's do a sort of a parallel examination of audio culture at this moment and technological time and and perjure was documenting visual culture at the moment television was newly dominant and he was looking at issues of visual holiday and how they were changed by the new media that were available to time from electronic reproduction of some cheap printing all these kind of things that came in and met the mass market the sixties on I thought when I want to do the same thing for audio but in this digital moment which is really change our interactions with audio I think everyone's aware of that so demon in the new analog you're right what I know will from working with sound and music is that noise is as communicative as signal so as a listener why should I care about noise thank you for pulling that out that is really the crux of my of my work and in this field and if I had to reduce all the running and and podcasting about a one sentence that was it noises as communicative as signal what I mean if you're listening to this on the radio in Madison Wisconsin it means that they're all kinds of other sounds that are happening in addition to the sound of my voice in your voice on the radio and a lot of those might be classified by an audio engineer is noise meaning they're not the intended signal of sound that you're trying to hear if you're listening to this station but there may be a whole lot of other sounds of static there's a cross talk of other stations there's the sounds if you're driving in your car the sound of your car this is sounds out your window is a sounds of other people that you're traveling with this you're not alone these are all sounds that are happening along side of.
