"Hagen with your KPIX five KCBS forecast thank you Paul KCBS news time for twenty one officials at San Francisco International are gearing up as some airlines are now looking to resume international flights next month for more we're joined on KCBS ring central news line by San Francisco airport spokesman Doug giggle adult fiction making some time for us we'd love to hear from you some of the what's wins in where's about all this absolutely yeah thanks for having me so beginning on June first we are going to see the resumption of service to Europe and just for reference the last flight from SFO to Europe departed on April first so it'll be about two months without any service to Europe in the first will be Swiss which will begin one flight a week to Zurich on June first and later in the month we'll see taunts of bring back three flights a week to Munich so this is it's a good start but it's a very limited services are airlines that originally planning daily flights to some of these destinations but this is really just the first step in resuming some service to Europe when you look at SFO whose international markets how big of a slice is that that those flights to Europe so this is a fairly small portion of of our overall picture and it's important remember that our schedules have been reduced dramatically our passenger counts are about ninety six percent below where we would normally be at this time of year so but every little bit helps and this is certainly a positive step forward what are you hearing about the logistics of all this how the airline's gonna handle it so there is really kind of a a new normal that need to get established for air travel and I think that on board aircraft airlines are still sorting out exactly what that looks like I think at a base level basking is going to be the standard for now it's an expectation for all travelers and employees at SFO to wear a mask all US airlines are expecting an onboard the aircraft I think the real question is in terms of physical distancing onboard aircraft and right now these airplanes are so wide open it's easy for airlines to achieve this but I think the real question is once flights start becoming a little fuller how will airlines still allow for that physical distancing and we've certainly seen a handful of flights that were full and that is a concern that airlines are gonna need to resolve for their travelers and it's going to be done on an airline by airline basis is that not it will not be uniforms well I think the real goal here is to establish a uniform set of standards and I know as an industry that's one of the things that we've been pushing for is a consistent set of standards and and I'm talking more on the airport side in this this touches on items like temperature screening and other measures but really our goal is that the process is the same whether it's in San Francisco in Denver and Chicago New York travelers can expect the same set of standards that at an airport it's reasonable to assume that that would extend on board the aircraft as well so there's a consistent set of standards that travelers can anticipate and and feel good about when returning to air travel all rights to Doug thanks as always for making some time first Doug giggle who speaks for San Francisco International Airport we go to the money watching Jason Brooks area biotech is hoping to start testing a covert nineteen vaccine candidate Dynavax disclosed in an.

"We C. more two days of sheltering in place looks like in the bay area the question is are people taking it seriously enough to make a difference KPIX five Katie Nielsen got some feedback from Dr art Reingold the head of epidemiology at UC Berkeley on our social distance distancing efforts so far we made a lot of progress in the last few days but I think there's still plenty to do Dr Rheingold worries whether the shelter in place order is accomplishing the goal of slowing down the spread of the corona virus we still have lots of people who were out and about and of course people have to get their groceries there are things that people absolutely have to do but it's not clear to me that people are taking this quite as seriously as they need to he says the way some people are reacting to the shelter in place order is a start but feels more needs to be done to truly slow the spread of covert nineteen in the communities are there better ways to organize lines are grocery stores so people are not shoulder to shoulder can we decide that certain construction is not essential to go on for the next few weeks I I think there's room for improvement edit and add San rebels peacock gap golf course which is still open because it qualifies as exercise outside of the coronavirus still talk about it's just been a little over the top for me so just still wanna do my daily activities and get out there and enjoy life stuff we as a community need to do a better job of Francis also replaced to to reduce illness and death in other sugar free all members of our society Dr wrangled says people should be prepared to deal with this for the long haul he says if the trends with the spread of the corona virus do not change this could impact the bay area for months not just a matter of weeks
