"Personality in cage would have shifted way too much focus away from coal young story arc and also filling in some of that braggadocio that johnny cage would have had is cain so you would have had to white characters with plenty of that larger than life egotism and comic relief in this film in one film so they didn't want it to completely get away from the story arc that they were trying to present for the first film aggressor happened at conceive of the reboot for as the first of a trilogy so he wanted to set this film. Prior to the tournament the second film would be the tournament and then the third film would be the aftermath. So there's no tournament here. So mortal kombat delivers plenty of action in the second half despite it though you have a lot of prolonged mealey's punctuated by those gruesome fatalities producer. Todd garner considers the demand for johnny cage. As a big reason that the studio and fans might come back for more so this was kind of a gamble they would keep johnny cage out hoping that this film would be popular enough that people would clamor for more and we clamor for johnny cage. That would push it over the finish line to get into production. They hope that the fans would like the first film for the suits at warner brothers to allow an expansion to the universe. Similar to marvel wanted this a spin off not just into a sequel but to other properties as well delve deeper into the mortal combat mythology. With maybe a miniseries for hbo max. Or maybe solo stories solo movies of some of the more popular characters like cabal or lou king and the monks. Or maybe a war film. That featured sonya blade. "There is a red one that came later on. So i thought it was interesting choice to that because i did like the way. The original mortal kombat had sub zero and scorpion together. So as interesting seeing them fighting fighting. Because you always assumed that they were like something together because they have the same exact outfits at one was yellow. Ms blue and i i know that was just the animated and drawn to of these yellow and blue there. You go and i really liked the the beginning of it. That whole where he was awesome. Yes you can play as any of the characters except for goro. And chinks yeah ok. They were like the end of the tournament. Goro i and goro has actually pretty easy. If you could get close to an uppercut he could be big to get you. Goro is four handy. Yeah the forums and handy he. Is you do the math. You didn't man if you could be any one of them. Even though i didn't like the coal character and i was bummed that i felt the movie just got going and then ended. Yeah i did think there should have been a tournament for the first one. Maybe go off tournament the second one when you get to the end. You're like okay. So i just watched this movie to set up a sequel. Then yeah hopefully we get now. Scorpions back in the world right. It doesn't smell. He goes back to hell. He is now resurrected from hell. That's what i would think. Yeah and besides johnny cage are there any characters that you would want to see in the sequel so again man the first and second ones where my primary plane so i don't know really any other characters outside of that. Okay i probably with you can think of any. I remember that baraka guy like a green face and had like bones come out of his arms and he had a really easy. "You know what. I can never do that stupid. Part of the game because my fingers couldn't touch a b or c fast enough to get sub zero to do piece of would never good at this game but i remember playing this game on an old. I just loved it so much. The first one is much. It was a big change from streetfighter. Because i played a lot of street fighter survivor. And i think we got two of those and then nothing. So you don't ever know if any of this is going to pay off. And i'm guessing probably not because there's rarely ever a good veil but you can sit through it but then the more you think about it and you think about what she love about mortal kombat which is like well choreographed violence a respectable level of of camp that is engaging and then these colorful characters that enrich that that campy atmosphere and somehow in in a game that has had no less than probably hundred characters. Many of which are can't be and weird and goofiest shit and fun or even interesting. God there was a guy in mortal kombat who was just a fat man that barked and farted. That could have been your main character here. We're going to bring him up. Just because his name is like rochambeau or something and he barks and farts blow right. Gets this close okay. So but the point. I'm getting at is the main character of mortal kombat. Twenty twenty. one is nothing. He's a cipher. Blank fucking canvas. And he has a family doesn't do anything is a family family family. It's disgusting out of africa. Maybe many years ago and the trophy for that was meryl streep couldn't have children. And that was her entire defining characteristic. This man has successfully had a child and he has a wife and he loves them very much and and that's it that's all he does all he does is he loves his family. Just him what that is the. That's the setup that pitch these things on and by these things. I don't mean mortal combat. I mean every goddamn re boot of an astrologer property that exists though as kind of like what if it was taking place in grounded reality. It's what makes this a grounded fucking reality because there's an ama asshole with the fucking wife and kid who gives a shit. There's there's different ways of doing that where you can have things take place in a grounded reality and my biggest issue. Never do get rid of the living. God damn greek. Put them to saying like if you wanted to try with this movie. They did the entirely wrong way because it it feels neither real nor whimsical like cautious of being too much of anything. It's just this this neutered film than i don't know like does it. Start in the mortal kombat characters. No do they do any of their fatalities them does but not really do they have cool powers. "I i'm just there's a language barrier between the two So which is which also probably translate literally and figuratively to their fighting styles. And kind of going back. And i just i thought it was anytime. They were on screen and like the beginning scene. How that happens. It was just really cool to see the the translations happening and going. I've never seen that in a movie So very cool to see that happen Yeah i think it's really cool to because it doesn't it's not it's not what makes the scene all about it but it does kind of invoke that sense of like. There is a history between chinese and japanese people and it doesn't have all it's not all roses and sunshine there. They they have their own their history but also like that sense of like we are divided by language are divided by you. Know our loyalties to our families and our clans and stuff like that so like i it just an extra bit of depth of lying. These are different people. These aren't just like okay. Everyone speaks english. Go and you're fighting because your blue yellow go and it's like okay cool it feels lived in and and there's something that i really liked about that opening scene to where like you saw like these little good cut away like the leaves would blood on it and i remember the director saying how like there is something that we can do with just the setting and we can create beauty in the violence. And i'll just like. I really like that idea like after the entire clan has been killed that there's this season just quiet moments in the forest and i was like i felt like that's how it would be like and that that he worked really well that like showing like yet entire family. Just got killed and you wouldn't even know about it like the force just continues right after that and this is probably like a normal tuesday afternoon for sub zero. Yeah it's like really like awful sad and it shows the brutality of what we're gonna get into so well i think the the strongest points of this movie are following that that storyline of of hans. Oh and beyond either through that opening scene or the fight in the gym where you see hongo see kohl's wife and daughter frozen and he has that flashback to his own The cuts between the his wife and son. And kohl's i thought was really powerful and i just. I could've done a whole movie of just that plot. As their first instalment in the franchise would have been like the rise of scorpion or something is to probably when you think of mortal combat like two of the most like the like world combat. Oh scorpion is like the number one and then zero. You're like those guys are bad acts like that's just like even from the inception of the game. They were meant to be rivals. Fire and ice. You know yellow and blue. It was it was. It's been ingrained since mortal kombat one but to see it fleshed out here in the games you get to hear a lot of the story told in like very lord of the rings type like longtime ago chirazi radio stuff like that or little bits of it. Yeah to see it kind of you know. Grounded was really cool ceylan. But i could have done a whole movie of that that the hole punch tricking them..

And ever since i've i've really enjoyed what they've done. The story Mcginn watch twitch. Yeah if you watch. Her twitch stream is streamed the entire story for the last Mortal combat And with that. I think this this movie succeeds in a lot of ways. I didn't think it was going to. It's it's a tough subject because it's rich with character but it is that kind of like be it's always been be movie plot kind of the top and you need that campinas to to sell it And i think it really succeeded in in some of that fell short and a few other things That i was. I was kinda hoping for the would kind of follow through on but all in all. I really enjoyed my time watching this movie. Even dana to watch it with me and she was like. I didn't think i was going to enjoy that. And i did so definitely surprise delight. This is someone that falls asleep during other movies. I tried to show her like a couple of minutes of the raid afterwards to to show her. The guy who played subzero behind was and she was like this. Isn't i respect this but this is my kind of fall. Asleep and dana says a lot that she watched this whole thing caitlyn. So i don't know why but what came to mind after watching. This movie is like this is the the bear with me as i say this. This is the best banana bread. I've had when you have banana bread. That bread is dense. It is banana bananas in the name. You get the banana flavor. And then you know. Sometimes they throw a little chocolate chips in your so. This movie was exactly what i expected. Is moral combat more combat movie. That's it it is very dense. "Mortal kombat. Y'all y'all were smart not pick me because it is a very close near thing. Not even that. I was like all i love to sears. But like it's been part of my life for such a long time. I remember like They're doing a remake. I don't know and it's like It's going to be a low budget. I don't know and then you started seeing a little bit of the costumes like okay. They're going for like this vibe and then watching the film I was probably like at the most like hyped. I can possibly be for something like this where it's like. "No. I get that well. Was there anything else to say about this movie. Ching song is not as good as the shing-chung from the original one I thought reading was fine. Sonya's about the same. I so my biggest problem with the original. Mk was the fact that none of the character or the actors were built like any of the characters. Because you know that wasn't a thing back in the nineties where an actor would go so far to do a role that they would like put on a lot of muscle and look part whereas i think these characters look the part except for sonia. She still could have been bigger in my opinion. Well i thought king in the original he had a nice frame. Yeah no he did but he was also a martial artists to begin with right that really helps and like linden. Ashby doesn't care because he did everything else. Right like the charisma. Like he's johnny cage to be. That's what i want out of johnny cage. I want the linden. ashby one. Yeah and guy anyway so it works you know you just. He wasn't fat. He was built. He just wasn't well. I mean yeah. But he's like a heavier set big guy not like this was a little more skinny for my taste. The new one. Yeah and then and the shing song in more combat ninety five is head and shoulders above this one. Dishing song is so forgettable. And i think that's the thing that gets me the most about this movie. I didn't care about lou king. I don't a person. I'd like k- know and there's a twist that they do with him where he's on the good guy side and even halfway through the movie he does a turn and i thought that was great because yes. That's what qena would do you know he gets offered money to switch sides. Yep that's what k- know would do. He would switch sides because that's where the money is and i loved that just like so. I don't know who wrote the keno stuff and then who wrote the rest of this movie. Well that's it for us. I mean you're going to go see well you liked it so and that's fine. Diana trying to help the earth realm people because she is the heir to the outward realm. She may be more benevolent to the earth. Realm they go to leave and make a ton of noise in the process. Chang six henchman on them but then the police got a maze and the way they came isn't the way that came anymore and they get lost. I will say john cage. Has one good line this movie when they see the outline of goro in goes sonya. You go ahead and check out with that was. We'll stay behind. I thought that was like okay. That's something that a normal person would probably say there. Go ahead especially johnny case. Yes so i give him kudos for that one point and then catanha shows up so lucane falls puppy dog and reptile spit something into his eyes and temporarily blinds them eventually. Johnny takes the lead and leads the right back to the dining all they have to fight some faceless guards and our here's beat the shit out of them after they celebrate rate and does a sarcastic. Clap thing and a whole bunch of other guard show up burrito threatens the guards leading powers escorts the heroes out of the room. The team classic errands Walk and talk. And he talks about gordon chang sung and the next morning tournament begins and chang sung has the first bat with an unnamed and lou king has the first bat with an unnamed guy. Dreadlocks can make super quirky guy. Despite the fact that the guy roars like a lion. An chang sung steals a soul and says fatality which doesn't mean anything to anyone in the scene but it means something to us which i guess counts literally doesn't mean anything cause lucheng didn't do the fatality. He just stole his his soul. Which i guess they just had to work in a way to make him say fate fatality. I don't know. And what a weird like character trait to give the opponent but he roars like a lion but he has no special powers. He's not fascists. Why wouldn't you just like try to fit in another character. You got like characters. you can't just throw another one in their right mortal kombat to was the was the most recent one out and they didn't have many in there..

I don't know what they did with seven and eight or those were even if they counted other games and and eight verses mortal kombat and mortal kombat armageddon. I did not mortal combat because my parents paid attention that stuff and they didn't let me by by adult video games. I remember my dad. Bought me mortal kombat. And he's watched me play it. And i performed the uppercut and you know everyone who's played mortal combat knows the hilariously cartoonish uppercut where they go flying ten feet in the air. And so i'm planning it. My i do that. My dad goes. You can't do that in real life right. yeah. I think so. Okay just making sure that was. My parents definitely. Didn't care of me playing that. I feel like i feel like i remember specific moment of like going to rent it and the guy behind the counter was like you know this is pretty mature rated right. Whatever you'll be fine shut up narc. "Moving to Las Vegas last year evil was the event. I was the most excited for as the premier fighting game tournament evil holds a special place in the hearts of the f g c and e Sports at large depending they push last year's eve. Oh unlocked at least that was supposed to be the plan until Evoque co-founder. Joey cooler was accused of sexual misconduct wage to the cancellation of the event since then the future of the tournament has been in doubt Today evil acknowledge the accusations toward Clark as they announced a new strategic partner in Sony the exact details bit murky, but basically Sony and RTS a new venture out of Endeavors e Sports business have acquired the tournament through a joint venture partnership the terms of the deal were not disclosed their first announced wage. New partners was that evil online will be held this coming August from the 6th to the 8th, and then from the 13th to the 15th the tournaments that have been announced so far include Tekken Mortal Kombat Guilty Gear and Street Fighter off in the past. There have been quite a few more titles. Well big events a TiVo, but with the move to online some of the games don't quite have the netcode up to par to host Malik competition. Yeah. We're looking at U Nintendo last year. That was the reason Smash Bros was dropped from the lineup. It remains to be seen if it will make a return this year. Although it doesn't look like it's going to come out even when competitions can happen in person. So any involvement may push the tournament to focus on different titles not the one from Nintendo Evo is still open to all platforms. According to Mark Julio on Twitter who does Biz Dev for Evo Nintendo put out a statement basically saying, hey, we're still open to Evo for this year. The netcode will prevent smash from being played, but after a two-year Hiatus and was Sony and control it may never come back to the Evo stage personally. That makes me happy. He said but it's not exactly Sony or Evo's fault. I'm going to blame Nintendo in this one.

This revolutionary device was called the dreamcast in that apocalypse ad. What's inside the case? This is stealing. Is that very consul? Well then the dreamcast Box it sort of spins off of the back of the thief and lands in the street and the the the lid of this magic case kept the box plug. In the whole time POPs open camera's zooms into the dreamcast and into the window and goes down to the bottom where it appears that all the characters from all the Games are all gathered and there we have sonic down there and he he triumphantly says we got in the whole place rupp's and everybody's screaming. It was a pretty fantastic way to close out the competition in terms of news developer. Nether realm shared a gameplay trailer for spawn. Well the system has officially sold and it went for about three hundred thousand dollars on the site I say about because the anonymous buyer apparently paid about three hundred eighty thousand dollars after some various premium editions.
