"In the history books for Las Vegas Sports Raiders come away with the victory gave a lot of people close to some heart palpitations and heart attacks in the fashion that they won, But in the end, they were victorious. Not all that's all that matters. Lamar Jackson couple costly turnovers to break this down for us to break down the game. What are the Raiders do? Well, what do they need to improve on while the guy joining us on the line Right now he knows this Raiders team inside and out. He's the founder. Of Silver and black Today, the editor of Vegas Sports Day. Also a good dude. Scott Gold Bernsen joining us right now on the line. Scott, I appreciate you coming on. How are you? Hey, what's up, Scott? I'm doing well. Hopefully, everybody got some sleep and the football hangover real, but it's a good morning Vegas. As the home team wins their first real big game at home, Really with fans in the stands, So it's a good morning. No question. So Scott in brief terms, I'll say the first half Raiders defense keeps him in the game thought Derek Carr was a little off in the first half. And then midway through the third quarter towards the fourth quarter. Derek Carr, it seemed like that first fumble by Lamar Jackson woke up the Raiders offense a little bit, they traded blows back and forth. And I mean to me, That's what sums up the game. The defense in my opinion, even though Derek Carr is phenomenal in the fourth quarter, and there were guys on this team, there's no question that made plays. Darren Waller was incredible. Uh, you know, listen, we can name several guys. Derek Carr was very good, But let's be honest to me. It was the defense that won this game for the Raiders. Do you agree with that? You know, I do agree with that. I think you look at this game in the context. Guys of the last two seasons. If the Raiders are in a similar position and had not made all the moves on defense, improve the defensive front and improve the linebacking corps would they have been able to create a turnover like they did? They gave their cars the chances to go down and score. And the answer is no. They were terrible at takeaways the last two years next to last in the league. It's not last in the league, and so you're absolutely right. The defense kept them in the game, and that's what they blasted. Think as a black The ability to give that that offense, another opportunity to get them to get the ball back into the score. And so that's what you need. Sometimes you know that you can't put it all on one side of the ball. You have to play complementary football. And the Raiders were able to do that last night. Let's talk a little bit about coaching. I don't think the coaching one this football game I like Jon Gruden. I think he's a great guy. I'll say he's a good coach. Not sure he's worth $100 million contract. That's another story. Maybe I'll ask you that a little bit. But you know they this is what confuses me, Scott. Maybe you could help me out. With this 2nd and 92 more downs. They have plenty of time to kick a field goal. And they bring the field goal unit on it doesn't seem like they know what they're doing. There is confusion, and then they get a penalty. They lose five yards. They say, Oh my gosh, We might be kind of out of field goal range, and then you know, Derek Carr gets back on the field. That's not on the players. That's on the coaching step. I just feel like there were a couple bone head coaching decisions There were. Maybe it wasn't even a decision of just they weren't making the decision fast enough. Could have cost him the football game. What are your thoughts on that? Yeah, That's an interesting one. I couldn't believe that and and after the game, I know you were at the press conference. Um and Rudin said, Look, we were trying to find the kicker. The kicker was over at the net. We couldn't get him on the field at the right time. And you're right. That goes to coaching staff that goes to your special teams. Which sake? Who's a A long time. He's the associate head coach. Not having your guys ready was a weird situation and and certainly could have cost him because on that next play, Derek Carr gets back then what? Right then you're looking at a whole different situations. So I think there was a lot of rust on this team I expected on offense frankly, because that offensive line is rebuilt. But a lot of inexperienced guys a lot of second string trying to make the jump off, including Andre James Center, who struggled. Let's face it for most of the game, but came up big in the end. And so, yeah, I think there was there's There's some concern there. Look, it's one game. Everybody should bask in the glory that was This overtime win, But a lot of the concerns that we brought up during the preseason, I think still remain, and there was lots to see how they address it. But the coaching listen to coaching was uneven. At times. I do think I have to give Jon Gruden credit on the play calling on offense, especially in that fourth quarter, But let's face it, Derek Carr. If you if you watched the game, he audibled out of many calls, which is a credit to him, and he made the right call. Because obviously, the Raiders were able to drive down and score at the end of the game, of course. And over time, you know, a couple a couple things that I was concerned with in the offseason was was one. You know you lost Rodney Hudson. The offensive line has a players have been taken off the offensive line. You have you have Kolton Miller? First round pick you've got you Can you know that stage? You've got a couple of players that are that are coming back. You traded? You know, Trent Brown is back with the Patriots now. The last night, the Raiders gave up three sacks. Seven QB hits How Do you think the offensive line play? Did they play up the expectation, considering what they lost? You know, I thought they did pretty good guys. I wouldn't have said that in the first half. I thought in the first half, of course, Denzel Good goes down early with an injury, which which did not help Alex Leatherwood, the rookie out. Alabama played pretty well until that costly penalty obviously down at the one yard line at the end of regulation or overtime. Excuse me when they were trying to win the game. But other than that, I thought they came on in the second half. There's still a lot of question marks there..

"Okay, we are back here with Brandon thorn of establish the Run be sure to give him a follow on Twitter at Fred & Thorn NFL. Do you love Twitter threads breakdowns that type of stuff Brandon has them all from you on the line of scrimmage. I want to talk about Patriots left tackle, Isaiah. When do I know you were pretty high on in the draft coming in and we both kind of you know, damn back and forth about is the windbreaker come in and just a year. Is this the game? He's looked pretty solid. I would say to start the season. He's got a really juicy match up against Bradley Chubb this week. I think this is going to be a really fun one to test win a sort of anger and ability to hold up against power against the guy like Chuck who can really bring it off the edge. Yeah. I mean jobs children in pretty good. I don't know. I I mean I think wins been very good so far. I don't know what you know, I know other people may have different opinions, but my from what I've seen I mean I've liked when every time I've seen him play in the NFL, I mean I think a game Your struggles his head was last year against Robert Quinn, but aside from that. I mean, I don't know man. I mean, I think he's been very good, you know just obviously health is the only thing holding him back in my eyes. So to see him healthy this year is great. And even though he's dealing with the calf. I I mean what he did last week against Frank Clark, you know, I don't know if Frank Clarke's dealing with anything cuz he's got pretty much shut off by him and Kolton Miller and back-to-back weeks, but I thought Isaiah Wynn was pretty much locking him down all day. You know, he he lost a a rep late in the game in the fourth quarter where Clark just had an incredible get off and got to hit the quarterback as you through it. But aside from that one rep there may have been one more. I'm I'm forgetting about but for the most part he was on point that game and pass protection. I think when is a very good run-blocker as well. It's probably the most underrated part of his game. I mean, I think the thing about him is going back to Georgia. He's just a technician. He's so efficient. He's so khong With his hands and he's not obviously not the biggest guy so we can get overpowered of times. That's just going to happen..

"And said this kid's a project but they saw something so he's a left tackle so when they go in grab Trent brown who actually protected Brady's blindside played left tackle but only for that one year so he was a right tackle but they feel comfortable enough with Cole Miller and his progress in his rookie year that they said you know what Trent Kopech to right tackle we're okay here I gotta give Kolton Miller credit he really stepped up his play very solid football at the blind side yeah he really has and you know I wasn't sure when they took him out of UCLA how well he would develop but give them credit he's done a really nice job I'll tell you what look in the NFL and to me you go back to whether it's you know in college football with Alabama or with some of these other teams the NFL with great offense of lines like the Dallas Cowboys with Jimmy Johnson he looked Dallas's offense of line now if you had that office of line and the defensive line that's really where you went I'm not trying to take anything away from the quarterback of the skill position guys but the offense of lines are so critical to how successful team could be looked even an average receivers get open against the best DB's if you've given enough time all right so we'll hope Daniel Carlson Texas kicking up we started with the raiders the kid couldn't miss after they grabbed him after Minnesota kind of what they did do last year was fined a punter big time pick up there with AJ call the third who stepped up nicely and look Alec Ingold very solid full back out of Wisconsin we talk badgers to already before and we gotta talk quarterback real quick because Derek Carr last year down the stretch played differently.

"Bunny attitude and and he keeps coming but when you bring over Marinelli from the cowboys eighty brings with Emily Collins and then he also brings over JC Whitney wouldn't want it to come anyway we saw the potential of this team being some so for him to leave Dallas after coming out of the booth playing saying all right I got one more year maybe two you're thinking there's no freaking way that he's leaving big D. but he sees something here and he understands that he could be that mentor for Darren Waller would ninety receptions but only three inside the red zone for touchdowns we'll do something we can do is teach these young kids how to box out how to get position and how to make the most of what you have because he does not near the athletic talent the deer Waller as I tell you what Jason Witten is a guy who you know I know obviously distant to the S. pen did maybe go as well as he would have liked I think Jason Witten is a guy we could see wind up in a front office Katie I think even if he does that production on the field what he brings to the locker room as a pro is off the charts you know this is a guy that is used he is a pro on and off the field hi and I feel like I'm gonna leave somebody out here but he is probably the second best athlete I've ever covered for a long period of time you know Dirk Nowitzki's always the number one for me just the way I always handle himself the way he interacted just everything but Jason Witten is a close second I probably have a bias towards dark but witnesses class and I think it's going to help this team in different ways you know so many times I was talking to a former general manager in the major leagues and he said to me goes markers not giving credence or enough credit to culture and chemistry within a locker room because I I'm always more about talent but you know over the years a kind of learn to realize that Hey you know what there is tremendous value in the locker room how you guys get along all those things are very critical right so when I look at some of the other guys that they got free agency wise Carl Nassib comes over this guy he missed a few games Leicester this guy knows how to get to the quarterback you did at Auburn and you did it Tampa Bay he will pressure Cleveland Ferrell of Ferrell struggles at all NASA is a guy that could take his job I think feral really improved last six games of the year he started getting it he stopped the boneheaded neutral zone infractions these are key and when I look across this team I mean Max Crosby was a guy that overachieved but there were some other guys that under cheaper when I moved to the office of life this is a line that was banged up gave Jackson was her pretty much Trent brown was banged up Rodney Hudson even banged up a little bit Richie incognito suspended the first two games what a job he did again this guy's thirty seven years old is going to be for you know when the season starts and he's somebody in his last five seasons now in the NFL he's been just about flawless between what he did last year with the raiders in those four before with buffalo you know it's unfortunate incognito they had some off field issues and other things but I I really believe this talent was almost is hall of fame worthy I agree you know it's career may not be but his talent has always been that guy's a wall you can't you can't get through and can't get past about three basically unfair want to touch with the real quickly I thought there was a bit of a reaching number four for the raiders with him and I feel like he would never come out to admit this but I think there was a part of him that was a bit surprised by it and I think you put a little bit of extra pressure on himself to live up to that you know when your top four pick it's expected your franchise changer negative guys the first unexpectedly French has changed dramatically when you're in the top four top five picks so I think he'll get better I just you know and then Abram to in the hard knocks Abram Khan a with his moxie and then is it just is testosterone attitude he's just like he's there and in the end he somebody that you know he's gonna he's gonna take center stage and then Josh Jacobs quiet footsteps of does the work so yeah more pressure on feral as the season went on and you're right I think he did press a little bit but I love the addition of coral NASA that's one and a lot of people are talking about look Arden key we knew he had to put on some upper strength I think he's been doing that and that could be key for him to make not only stay on the squad but be somebody that's somebody that's going to make a difference in them may be interchangeable there on that defensive line you know Arden key had some issues at LSU that kind of took away from the field to me I thought he was a great steel I thought he was a guy that could potentially really develop into something there some guy sometimes if you don't follow college football is close these maybe you and I do you may be familiar with the name you may not but those are kind of picks that third round the fourth round guy really sometimes they have first round or second round talent but they just because of some issues off the field don't get drafted as high but he really could develop into something potentially exit and let's not forget about Kolton Miller because Gruden and company they were kinda I don't see crucified but they're really scrutinize big time when they took a shot at called Miller you know back as one of those three number one picks and and it was somebody you know are actually that was using number one year before right the first how to use the number nine pick I think overall and so people looked.

"That offense fit perfectly for him but I will say this the way that he had to run so much under duress because there were not a lot of offense of weapons for mark stoops team he really it improved as peripheral vision big time you could see him as the season went on to where he knew there were guys coming out of from every direction I thought he did pretty well and you know he won six of eight games that he started his quarterback there's no question I mean everyone knew what was coming from the Kentucky offense and he still was able to be super productive well and it was basically a one trick pony after that Kentucky offense down the stretch and still nobody could stop that Russia attacked so and that's a lot of credit to the marketing company a lot of credit to and they're devoting who was that you know they're not expected to be the quarterback obviously for Kentucky last year I use it definitely an intriguing lapping you know you can you terminate a bunch of different spots by play little sliding Priceline it might be even in the back field a little bit and use the money you know similar to what the same Tuesday from hell I did if you're gonna take that guy and you know after taking drugs okay I can understand that and then but you turn right around and the very next thank you in the draft the yup take eighty and eighty one and you get another wide receiver Katie I like Brian out or it's more of a bigger guy yeah I get it you need wide receiver help a man Katie went when you got four picks in the first three rounds and used three of my wide receiver I just thought they needed a little bit more how boss on the line scrimmage don't be surprised if the raiders don't make a move now look at what they have on the roster they still of the Jones we got in late last year from buffalo you have guys like you know that our practice squad guys now like Marcell Ateman who has had a Cup of coffee there with the raiders Keelan Doss well made the squad last year Rico Gafford show that he had some speed but is undersized but you grab no Sinagra are from Philadelphia and this guy he could still have game so you know Renfro's good you know Tyrell Williams as long as it fits okay he's going to be good you know rugs is in there but I like Brian Edwards Brian Edwards of big guy six three to fifteen and I think he's gonna be a star and I I just think that when it when the raiders looked and they said you know Brian Edwards is still on the board I think this guy is it a big time receiver I mean I know we got banged up Leicester foot injury I missed a few games for South Carolina but Brad I think I think Edwards might turn out to be one of the better receivers at the raiders have on that roster yeah I'm not I know this is nothing against Brian Edwards I think I mean I had a greater right work I mean I think I rate him number eighty one of my big board so the fact he went for a ride and I had a meeting anyone eighty one so I had him drafted right in there so they can reach yeah obviously the raiders needed help there I did think it was a really extremely deep draft then I think you get you gotta gotten some really good he said wide receiver options in the fourth and fifth rounds and you know they're they're my name me guide later after the that are all right I get that taken three on your Ford first four picks when I also thought you needed help on the defensive line offense line I don't want down to negative and criticized a little bit but I am a little bit because when when you when you load up on one position and you already got some nice weapons they're already on the team I didn't perfectly understand the they they game planned Katie well here's the thing prior to the draft right before the draft the raiders made a point Mike may I came out and said we're all in wood gave Jackson a right guard so we're okay there Rodney Hudson we know that that contract extension last year Richie incognito I know he's going to be thirty six years older is thirty six going into the season but missed the first two games on suspension last year but another banner year for incognito Kolton Miller really improving playing real nice his first two years of left tackle I think that being a surprise entrant brown played hurt part of the year last year right tackle I think they're okay there now it's can you get some backups they grabbed a son John Simpson Eric Kush Erik Magnuson they're expecting more from Brandon Parker for him to step up they've got my Jordan Debbie they've got some players back there as far as you know filling the roster that they're gonna have to find out what these guys have in case anybody does get hurt but I'm okay with the offense when I look at the defense now I want them in a yeah I agree with you all right I what about the defense up front well you're here I like it okay so hear me out you go rob Carr on acid who had a missed a few games for Tampa last year but still got to the quarterback more than Cleveland Ferrell Ferrell took is once the first you know ten games and I saw improvement the last six games I saw him stopping to do stupid neutral zone infractions I thought Maurice Hurst stepped up and played well they have Johnathan Hankins there as well the fleece Dallas to get Billy Collins which I thought was a nice tackle by to grab defensive tackle they'll expect more from PGA hall are heard he'll be gone Max Crosby stepped up had a huge season last year right after issue right okay so Arden key this is a do or die ideal Norton he's got to step up or are you going to are you going to play but I I thought Sean was saying that Arden key could be gone from this raiders wide and I wasn't sure if if he ended up signing somewhere else last I saw he was still on the team but I know they had a lost world the world we signed with the cowboys yesterday when I look at Roberts in the youngster out of la tech I wanted to get your take there because you have Trayvon Mullen who really stepped up late last year at a climbs in Johnathan Abram missed a season you signed Maurice Randall we know two years ago for Green Bay had a pretty good year but not a good year last year for Cleveland they also signed Jeff heath you know got him away from Dallas as well and so you have some players there I wanted to get your take on both Robertson and what about Tanner muse out of cleansing kit does this guy have potential to move up and and be somebody on the roster well I really like the Robertson picked prime my favorite pick that the raiders made the beginning I'm first evaluate that then you know they got him all wrong later than when the one I had in mind our opportunity top one hundred thank you guys so you know not ideal size of five eight but but a playmaker and you know but he was playing a good system there Louisiana tech in my opinion defensively you don't believe me ask the Miami hurricanes in the bowl game under that law tech defense was news I was just playing surrounded by a bunch of talent and content one a little bit before when I thought I thought he'd be more like a fifth round type of guy so I thought they reach a little bit for him but just going back to it Katie I thought the raiders should've went you know least got another defensive tackle I mean Colin city wasn't super productive first obviously I guess I could step in but I mean who else they got rocked this question PJ hall I E. you can you know gotten gotten another big guy defensive tackle there and in the end one of those two third round picks then that that's my biggest question mark for for the raiders Katie yeah no doubt but I I think Collins is there and I think Carl Nassib gonna push Cleveland feral on the imposition do that but I'm more looking more alkaline in your hurt in a tackle yeah well I can state a decent job I mean her stepped up I mean you gotta remember Hearst was a guy that they sent home from the combine raiders got him in the fifth round and I understand I look great they don't have they don't have a new dom can sue they don't have Aaron Donald they don't have one of those guys but I think they're okay with Max Crosby stepping up and being way better than anybody thought this guy was going to be we knew we had a motor we knew we had that ever ready bunny motor he and Abram and I think Abrams going to be big time as well I think he'll probably make mistakes early on and and that's the trouble if you're looking at starting you know Jonathan Abram in the secondary it's a free safety and then Damon Arnette if this guy wins out ends up being the left corner you have right corner would be probably Trayvon Mullen but you don't know you're going to look and see all the markets joiners also played god some corner but he's getting up there a little bit so he Nick nickel back I talked to a Lincoln Kennedy looking at nickel back there and then Robertson your guy but we'll choppy if Roberts is good enough to step in and maybe do some starting their way in C. but you know I I again I'm not going to question may I can group based on last year's draft and what they did free agency wise I thought they had out of all the NFL teams I thought they were the ones that improvements or improve themselves the most as far as you know free agency and I talked about those three cowboys especially when you get a guy like wind it's going to come over to a guy that had a stellar year ninety receptions for Darren Waller but only three touchdowns and you want to get a veteran like ito like a that you know just a a veteran like wouldn't that that knows the game knows how to box out not fast to Waller has all the athleticism now can you learn the game as far as from the veteran Jason Witten who knows how to play that wide receiver knows on the third Nate he's get nine and a half yard that's the way that guy plays and when they grab Cory Littleton and quite dusty right away that took pressure off them having to grab a linebacker in the first round because we know that queen and Murray were both on their boards initially as far as in that first round with the number nineteen tech yeah they they certainly dropped and that meant three big names that at least coming into operating in the draft and then you know linebacker cornerback and wide receiver so the fact that they drafted linebacker in free agency and I want to work at wide receiver and quarterback with their first couple pics I don't question that all they address he needs is about as good as anybody in the end this offseason so I agree with you there I just thought they needed a little bit more ended a little bit more juice on that front seven did the expressly a tackle that that would be my only question mark but I mean I'm just looking at the depth chart that this is probably as deep and talented as we we've had the raiders probably as far as depth chart goes probably since the no did the groom's first date a guy go around there and bill Callahan's first year to their bad back in Oakland so when David there are bodies in good shape and they've been a last fifteen twenty years okay so now are you on Katie's bandwagon or Matt Youmans and Mike Scalia both those guys pretty solid NFL they both know their stuff no doubt last year I bet you meant that the raiders would go eight eight or better he bet me that they'd go five eleven and he said six in ten would be the best he thought I'm going to end up seventy nine so we ended up pushing on this five hundred dollar bed and dinner at Michael's over there at south point so we up the ante I said you know raiders nine eight seven he said there's no way they finished better than eight eight this year I said well I think they go ten and six actually right now I'm coming out I'm saying I.

"NA member FDIC slowly going on ESPN radio and ESPN news also on SiriusXM channel lady and I'm Jason fits in between we go sit with my goal of Michael junior there's certain things that I can bank on every year and you guys know my love for for the draft every year but I am a little like Charlie Brown I'll admit it there are certain things I can bank on every year I'm gonna run up to the football and I'm gonna say this is the year and every year my collaborators are going to do at least one thing in the draft that has the entire draft community scratching their head last night they pulled off the nearly impossible and they did it twice now I will say Mike may I like I said it yesterday had a great first draft as a GM a spectacular first draft in Cleveland for a might be questionable pick we don't know but the rest of that track looks like it has a lot of spectacular last night was curious they end up with the twelfth pick at that time on unexpectedly every wide receivers available tomorrow the board right have been taken and they took Henry Ruggs the third now if you if you follow most of the riders to follow the team that's been Gordon's favorite that there's been no bones made about that Gruden wanted his tie retail has been a comment that's been written several times so I can look at Henry Ruggs of third and say okay I get it like a personal preference maybe I prefer Judy maybe a lot of people preferred yeah or land that was one where you had three receivers and depending on what you like that I I thought they keep you know bringing in al Davis for that because al Davis always took the speedster I thought well you know and obviously is not with us anymore yeah here they go take in the speech herself becomes about without it you know but then right no problem with that one we we get to nineteen yeah I'm feeling good about it we know the wide receiver issue we know the corner issue that's the two biggest glaring issues they're set on board a lot of options that's when I find out they've taken Damon Arnette cornerback Ohio state not your real good at quarterback Ohio state obviously he was gone earlier our net goes it and and it was shocking Daniel Jeremiah said this on our coverage last night about on it yeah I am from email is my eighth corner so I think people had that third quarter in all different orders you know one thing I'll say about our net while surprised that he went this high he's very competitive and that fits with what they've tried to do in building this team over the last couple years a very physical very competitive kid who can really find and play the football which you've got to have at that position so now yeah I'm gonna do what I do every year I'm gonna give you my digital life are you ready for this all boy are you ready for this the raiders last year allowed thirty seven receptions of twenty more twenty or more yards to perimeter receiver so we knew they were looking for an outside corner right we know how bad it's been for them in fact they allowed an NFL high twenty three touchdown passes on throws outside the numbers last year they get our net internet they get somebody that'll only allowed three point eight yards per attempt in man to man defense that led FBS and at this point thirty seven point I. completion percentages primary defender defender Lois to the big ten got skills all right whatever so you have no clue what she J. Henderson they were they were above everybody right that it was where were you going after that and by order AJ Terrel was the next quarterback and cornerback you enter the falcons then our net and then Mike says name went to the office I don't know it but not me thank you and have thirty one the Vikings was Jeff Gladney so there were six taken Damon Arnette was just the fourth three year starter thought about coming out last year went back and played the list and we can all break it down how I want you know it can be physical could be overaggressive at times you know that there are there obviously the pros and cons but what what we always say about this it comes down to because you saw the pictures of Mike may ox and of of of Jon Gruden they got their guy they had the choice there were three cornerbacks gone they wanted a little corner and all the other ones are out there you can kind of juggling on what you thought of them this was their next highest rated guy and they took them so it's one of those where we can all sit there and say you know during the German I since he was eight I'm looking at others where he was the twelfth corner but you know what none of that matters now how does he perform that's what Mike Maccagnan group will be great if not on what he performs because that's who they had there I think the biggest lesson here too we've all said this I gotta say it again for everybody looking at your track board it takes two to trade the raiders don't have another pick until the eightieth pick in the draft and while everybody knew that they were trying to move down to the second round and reports out of the people that that I trust to follow the teams that they were aggressively trying to move down from nineteen at some point you can try all day long if nobody's willing order it you you can't do anything about it you take the guy you haven't nineteen would have been a better value in the second round yeah well when you don't have a second round pick what else do you do I mean that that's sort of the situation you're in if you love your guy but he's a better value in second round and you don't have another picked up eighty eight nothing you can do about and this was a draft we remembered the word on the street I don't think Jon Gruden might may I needed any help with this they're guys that are pretty set and what they believe but this is one where the group think was going to be a lot less consensus because you didn't have pro days because you didn't have all this melding of scouts and people involved in that so maybe they're what maybe there is going to be more of this than we give credit for but this was the definite big head scratcher that we saw first off the board about the regular going to remind you tune into the last dance behind the scenes look at the nineties bulls dynasty the six series continues Sunday nine PM eastern on ESPN that was in the RAF a podcast hosted by Jill energy Kobe immediately following the broadcast presented by State Farm in eighteen T. available wherever you enjoy your podcasts that's what I'll be doing on Sunday to forget about all of this I'll just be watching the last I was gonna say I tried to be nice to you they're in like kind of like soften the blow a little bit by saying you know maybe they do know more than everyone else knows at this point which shows the maturity in our relationship because I was sitting next to you when they drafted Kolton Miller and you just looked at me your laughter you said he states more fifteen years ago to the day the Packers did again we'll talk about it next bill is going up ESPN radio ESPN one thousand and ninety eight ESPN thirty for thirty documentary the last day the glory of Michael Jordan and the bulls there six years that was a Michael Jordan god skies as Michael Jordan Jordan and the bulls granted a film crew full access to document their bid for a second three peat continues this Sunday night AT T. "The twenty twenty NFL draft the Las Vegas raiders select Henry Ruggs wide receiver Alabama Henry Ruggs the third wide receiver Alabama ones can score anytime he touches the football even on special teams only Amari Cooper and Jerry Judy has more touchdown catches in family history rugs can fly it is nearly impossible to tackle in the open field he does lack ideal size and needs some Polish as a route runner so there you go the first wide receiver is off the board and it's Henry Ruggs to Los Vegas raiders at number twelve I thought CD lamb was going to be the pick rods has a ton of upside with the speed that he has you know he ran the fastest forty yard dash out of all the wide receivers this past combine with a four point two seven J. R. little surprise here is that could be another wide receiver or did you like this pic of rugs no I I thought it was going to be another wide receiver but obviously they're thinking about somebody who's going to be a small shifty and an end goal down the middle but it was a definite that they were going to have to select the wide receiver after Antonio brown basically takes the last shot yeah Mister big Jessa thank them and now he's he's basically out of the NFL and bringing in Nelson now the lorries he's not excite anybody ask the folks in Philly how they feel about his hand so the raiders needed a wide receiver you know I I think this may be a play or set up you know if if if Marcus Mariota actually gets out there which I believe at some point we might see him this some great versatility on that offense between athleticism a Marriott and the speed of rock so I that's something that's in the back of my head I just hope that the helmet fits for Henry Ruggs when he shows up for his first practice J. R. yeah I I think for rookie I don't think will necessarily have those those problems I would hope so so last year the raiders surprised a lot of people with Cleveland Farrell I'm going number for it now it's Henry Ruggs and Mike mac for years we would hear about it surprise picks the look at when he was on the NFL network now you don't hear about those surprises because he has to surprise the rest of the league being the general manager of the Las Vegas raiders and I think you're exactly right Hey it would not surprise me whatsoever if Marcus Mariota pulls a Ryan Tannehill with what happened to him last year if Derek Carr does not play well in the first half of the season we could see markets Mariota and now whatever's at quarterback for the raiders they're going to get a new wide receiver he's a speedster I was talking to Todd DiBenedetto who's producing this extravaganza for us and he does a bunch of scouting for his website TV scouting dot com and in our show on the vacuum so six to ten weekdays on CBS sports radio listen to J. R. all right after us from ten to two week days as well I've comparison that defense throughout there was actually Tyreek hill with the speed that Henry Ruggs does have so there's a lot of speed there and you know speed just translated the National Football League for for wide receivers I just hope for the raiders isn't Darrius Heyward bey and any turns out to be better just going off the speed not you you just said it you know what they say about speed right Zach what they say they say speed kills okay that's that's a definite he's the fastest guy he's he's not the biggest he's not the strongest but but speed kills and if you don't have confidence in and Derek Carr if Derek Carr doesn't show to have confidence in himself this is a good pick for either quarterback because it's gonna give Derek Carr a bailout someone that he doesn't have the air the ball out to way down field but he can give the ball up in rather a short term and then let the speed take care of itself there from broke so I can understand the pick it's it's not having to necessarily air the ball out or rely on on on accuracy you can dump him the ball and say Hey do it's gonna be a with it and you have to tackle searing Kolton Miller and Trent brown and we'll have to wait and see what does transpire with this raiders offense as you also do have Jacobs is a very talented young running backs so there's pieces the quarterback now I just have to work and I will be looked at and when we look at this we actually have a trade it right now we were supposed to have on the clock here at number thirteen was the San Francisco forty Niners they got this pic from the deforest Buckner traders Reggie the Indianapolis Colts selection now Tampa Bay is moving up so I have two thoughts here either Tampa Bay is moving up to take the last group of that offense alignment are the top four and that would be Tristian worst to try to protect Tom Brady or their galling with another wide receiver and maybe it could be a CD lamb or Jerry Judy so it could be worse here to protect Tom Brady but you do have the box move it up to the box have been a big winner in free agency as you know it all men and how how many more weapons does Tom Brady need to throw the football too I mean I might as well just call up Randy moss and see if he still has a little bit left them they want to it a ball up it's it does a lot of guys you bring in Gronkowski you have god when you have Evans you have break there's a lot to do oops to get the ball to if you're Tom Brady do they go get ahead and get a a slot guy I mean Jerry Judy is a big cat what do you do you get another one I don't like that I I would assume it's common sense would say maybe get alignment but what Wilder things have happened yeah I think they're going to go offense of line here but if they do go Jerry Judy who actually you know Judy our land here I think would be a very good pick and and Judy I think would fit perfectly into the way that Brady wants to run that offense I just have the feeling that they're going to go offense the offense of line here with work still available but if they go with with with the wide receiver Jason white is going to turn into Oprah Winfrey just go when you get a wide receiver you got a wide receiver you get a wide receiver and giving out presents the newly acquired Tom Brady so I think it's going to be worse just because they traded up to get him that is my first gut instinct on this you know you know when I look at this but if they go wide receiver I can't complain either because the time to win is now for Tampa Bay with Tom Brady there for two years and who knows how much longer he'll play after that yeah you got two years you gotta go for it I think they're pretty sight there's only there's only two areas in my opinion that they're extremely weak I think when you look at their defensive backs and you look at the offensive line they have monsters up front bring in ensuing pass rushers and and and you also still have Barrett they almost had twenty sacks lastly yeah yes C. L. was up twenty sacks so I mean you you have these players there on defense you have the offense of skill players this get you fixed the line you get a corner and a lot of times it's not worth it to go ahead and get a young corner especially when you're trying to win a media at Lee so I let's see what happens I would I would think they go what lawn but Bruce Aryan sitting in his little his chair there you look he looks quite comfortable so what whatever they grab he's going to be happy I am we have the details of the trade press Adam Schefter Tampa coming up to San Francisco spot and it's going to be San Francisco getting picks up fourteen one seventeen and giving thirteen and its last seventh rounder port per a source I'm going to say that this is that this is offense of line if they're moving out because there's one of those top four still available here our service members for your courage and sacrifice on behalf of our country the San Francisco forty Niners have traded the thirteenth pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the thirteenth pick in the twenty twenty NFL draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Tristen Worf's tackle Iowa we're still works tackle Iowa a three year starter works finished his Hawkeye career as a first team all America he surprisingly athletic for someone six five three twenty making him a good fit for zone blocking schemes and dangerous on the second level he lacks ideal length and struggled at times against aids speed so some teams see him as a guard in the NFL by the way he's young but has plenty of room for improvements and now Tristan worse becomes the eleventh Iowa offense of linemen taken in the first round of all time nine Iowa offensive tackles have been drafted under Kirk Ferentz their head football coach who only does is produce offense alignment or a really solid tight ends into the National Football League if you're Tom Brady and that new state that you have that you're renting from Derek Jeter is just as long as Tom Brady's not going into other people's houses I read a report today that he thought he was going into Byron Leftwich house and it was some random guy in Tampa Bay I was just sitting on the phone and Brady walks center Brady had to get sent home from the park those have been the the biggest issue so far for Tom Brady in Tampa Bay but he has to be healthy and going on out there and that their team acquiring Tristen worse it was also a rustler and Brady was in New England they had a wrestler to in Steven Nelson and then there was one more the year a you know another wrestling that did turn into an offense sulaimon in New England as well so they're not you know this is something that brings used to a former wrestler turning into a football player having success interest and worse is the pick as the as the Buccaneers move up from fourteen to thirteen and swap with the forty Niners the forty Niners are on the clock at fourteen we'll find out of the NFC champions do select when they come back I would think it would be a wide receiver I thought I would think it would be only one wide receiver off the board and that of course was Jerry.

"The second Texas these three many times and that was the date that was San Diego Mike flew up we close the stadium club at two in the morning I wanted it in a completely altered state ordering twenty four those stadium shirts and not even knowing into the package arrived like a month later yeah I opened it up it was like two hundred fifty dollar receipt it was like twenty four there's black tee shirts at the stadium club Sir doled out a total still where his frequently yeah from in my eyes it's a really thick T. shirts like a Haynes double thickness yeah you'll probably work up a sweat when you wear it well you weren't on a chilly day yeah maybe I should know but anyway our cops take us away but your top three nine or draft you know it's funny I had thought about Pete Wilson of R. Bowman I did leave them both off because I went with a different defensive driving to get to him in a minute I feel drafted it could be similar to that of the two thousand nine draft and it happened a bunch of times it seems like in the last decade or so with the Niners and raiders of pitch close to each other yeah you won't remember the the coin flip wasn't last two years ago the Kolton Miller and cold Miller and then a glitchy it's taken by the Niners they that going toss in two thousand nine it happened similarly where the Niners the raiders were both looking for a receiver for some reason the raiders decided to take Darius Heyward bey all right everyone yeah and papers try to figure out who this guy was yeah and the Niners and got to take this guy out of Texas tech with the number ten overall pick Michael Crabtree is my number three right.

"His play just about how you physically in the classroom Montel the only thing missing right now is Kiara mia everything I touch turns to gold well so anyway I mean you want to share thanks to Donald yeah in this case the it's just that you know anyway I was just listening to Matt Miller there bleacher report and I was getting out what what again thank you for god sakes I understand that it's like I understand the deal on almost everything I I'm of the opinion right now where I am I'm not sure I'm not the zealot about any of the positions like I can almost see them like if they drafted a corner in some people I don't know maybe it's a reach if that whoever they drafted but I was like I get it they need a corner and if they drafted a detachable you know I'd be like okay that's how they got to the Superbowl man fortify that D. line you can never have enough good god and if they drafted a receiver I'd be super excited because he doesn't like a sexy receiver ma'am you know yeah I mean it rebodied but they've also had a that terrible time picking receivers other than maybe depot they you know they they history going all the way back to Terry Donahue and all that they just had a tough time and so I'm I'm sort of of the mind that that they're going to get a really really really good player that's going to really really really help them in the top fifteen and I trust in Kyle and John I mean now you know we talked about Colin John's track record and you know you mentioned Solomon Thomas or somebody makes a solid Thomas there was no Bueno yeah in Reuben foster we love the time without is a genius pick yeah you know we have to be such a do you never know what guys are gonna be like once they get their money to get out of college the kind of friends they make whatever injury history you know they have it but I don't apologize you did talking that Matt Miller bleacher forget you going a little bit I mean I I do I like I said man if you know the last segment I do like the sound of a of a brew of super young wide receiver corps both guys being super talented if it works out that way see that's the problem yeah anybody can say that all you bring in see the lamb is running a slant to schedule we don't know that right like we don't know you never know who's going to be a good pro who's not gonna be good pro but I do like the idea dude yes if you could guarantee me a super stud playmaker rookie wide receiver to complement Debo and you got the kill factor going on and you mix and some kids are born yeah I'm on board but there's no guarantees right Foro eight Texans if you don't use a top fifteen pick on a wide receiver especially this year with no pro days they're divas definitely built on the lines are games are one C. well that's true but but most people think if you look at most of these mock drafts that you got to go in the top fifteen that that jury duty for sure is going to go and and maybe every rugs to our city live I don't know so a lot of people think that Judy is the guy you should get the top fifty effect Marcus's raiders have been rumored to be interested in they could stagger before the night is good too seven of seven says as as regards the phrase slat rape slant routes to the house yes please yeah more of this deal does not be stayed on a few of those types of plays last year yep yep very good bang bang nine again I know very well is make someone India thank you copes C. O. and also then there's the whole intriguing possibility of trading back the Niners could trade back yeah and then ruled like have like you talk to me about trading back well they don't have a second third or fourth round pick you know yeah so I mean and you know and it is good to have they've done very well replenishing this roster through the draft and so one theory is if you can turn thirty one the thirty first pick into like a couple of third rounders yeah that's that's the smart move in the St John and calling to go that way I mean is that something that you know you can see them doing sure yeah absolutely yeah I'm excited man escaped see these guys and I I think if I had if you put a gun to my head which I hope you don't that would be I'd rather you don't yet if you don't we have pleasant but it did I think I was told that that wasn't to say the least yeah I think I would take the sixty wide receiver I think I would I was gonna be who's playing defense back there on the corner yeah well I'm just asking you might have to fight with those guys at thirty one or in the second or third round he got a this is where we got it just where you get a trust your scouts senior valuer gas co city wanted to thirteen by city Lambert Marcus and I were just talking that yeah it's it's funny it feels like for the last like seven or eight years like the Niners and raiders of packed next to each other or within like two picture each other a bunch of different times right wing when I was struggling she had when that coin toss in the the raiders to Kolton Miller I think is the office of one and they took you back to to win the Niners got Michael Crabtree remember the raiders to Darius Heyward bey right and I respect Crabtree so we always got to keep an eye on what they're doing for you go I DO they're saying to deeper Seaver drafted and that's what Miller was just saying I like the I like the idea see where I'm at he said he's a better fit maybe that Henry Ruggs is right whatever wherever you go whatever you do what kind of go through it together nice to verify heard Masha and Carol sing that at the county fair okay Mike Charlie Chaplin hats on didn't they weren't they just of like Charlie Chaplin they were yet which one of the ways strangely appealing as a child I didn't know why but I'm like oh I think I like this Hey Mara beetle were on a bicycle built for two you know so yeah they were they were in those hats yeah I believe that I believe singing from the musical I don't know vehicle was but anyway point being is yeah it's weird to have the raiders right near you and Kolton Miller nice reference prune juice okay so he's a speaking of which we got to get into our list our top three teams that way happened at eight thirty today should be go on yeah it is gonna be excited we're gonna get our three favorite teams of all time and that means just a certain year to certain team it's gonna last time if if last time was any kind of evidence you know we really didn't have any overlap like none of us really pick this stuff up prices yeah I was can't imagine there wouldn't be a little overlap yeah I think well you little overlap you'll see I don't know we'll see no easy here's a S. and surprise up his sleeve okay got that I got a surprise of my sleeve to you do I do I think so yeah right the show might not be surprised but if you're a casual listening after like we're not really totally call from one of the sun I want again to keep that nearby by Joe yours predictable you guys find apart pretty predictable yeah okay ten twelve and fourteen all right the two H. two seventy three really well you take your pick of the of the three consecutive yeah yeah you like to say see cops the seventy four guy more seventy two seventy one seventy four they beat the Dodgers that yeah that's what I was in seventy two well that's kind of his favorite team of all time next okay we are one of four five and six ATV sports later you're listening to Murph and mac Venable now on your apple homepod smart speaker he's he's KNBR.

"The ball down the field they talk about Derek Carr ten passes of forty yards or more but how many were really forty yards or more I'd say eight of them were probably twenty yards or less and then they turned into forty yards or more because the runner or whoever it was the receiver took it that extra twenty to make it forty yards or more so I saw a Tandy although throws the ball forty yards or more several times including twice against the raiders in that win at the Coliseum I want to see car do that understood that if you don't have the speed guys like a Thai retailer Sammy Watkins Mecole Hardman or even a Travis Kelsey like Kansas city has been your hands could be tied a little bit but if you get that receiving corps and you have the speed let's stretch the secondary especially Kansas city let's stretch those guys so there we can take advantage of that Waller guy underneath or like you said if we slot wall around that we can take advantage of the other slower veteran tight end Jason Witten or even you know another player that's coming out of the backfield like a Josh Jacobs has a pretty good receiver out of the backfield I think there's a lot to like about this raiders team and I feel comfortable that of course struggling that Mariota is good enough and understands now that you can lose that job so I'm betting he's pretty hungry to get a shot to start again in the NFL and I don't think there's any question in anybody's mind that Gruden won't pull the trigger if he has to the card is not produce on a week in week out basis he will pull the trigger for Mariota and go whether its in game or or starting the the next week and I think a key to all of this we haven't touched on yet if you doctor declined staying healthy if they can stay healthy that's one of the best offensive lines in football there were some huge injury problems last year as we all know up front they didn't even play a full game together with that starting five offensive line until week ten of the NFL last year so that was part of the reason may be that you know you could throw the long ball as much as well according to the back here he threw for over four thousand yards in and out I believe a twenty one touchdowns eight interceptions so not overly bad considering that he was in front of a makeshift offense of line for pretty much the entire season with that group stayed healthy and gives car time to get the receivers down the field and it also maybe roll out and do some stuff we're not running for like half the time I think that that that's going to be a key thing and should Merrill to get some playing time as well and there's also options to use both of them inside of games at the raiders choose to do so to keep somebody you know like the things kind of do a little bit the case of hill about say the market's version same skills in place to help you there I think you got a little different skill sets but I think I would be surprised to see them usable Carr and Mariota in the same game together inside of the series once in awhile as well just to kind of keep teams off balance are you going to deliver short now doesn't have to worry about two hundred Washington odds of signing with Kansas city there's a similar style players all over charge me a little better a receiving the football making things happen one on one love him out of the backfield and I'd like to see some two back sets sometimes too were you fake it to Jacobs and then flared out to Jaylen were short and I think that Gruden still got a little bit of that old school mentality that you can see him in may I put some of those plays together as well the offense of one you talked about it we know when Rodney Hudson health is one of the centers in the game there's no question was a little bit banged up last year but got the contract extension that he deserves reaching cognitive suspended the first two games but he was based I don't wanna say choirboys ritual never be acquired but here's a guy that really lived up to what he needed to be off the field and that was huge because he's on the field play even his last three years in buffalo was absolutely fantastic Kolton Miller stepped in as a left tackle when we all lot of us looked at him coming out of UCLA is just like this big goofy guy that is going to take them for five years to really pan out and the guy really improved big time to where they knew even though Trent brown played left tackle that one year and protected Brady that they put him back to his normal right tackle side he was banged up most of the year last year and gave Jackson was all beat up I want your take because the left side of the line can cognate on Miller very steady and very healthy last year Hudson again we know if he's healthy he's the real deal what about the right guard position gave Jackson is getting up there he was beat up they grabbed Eric Kush to back him up what are we looking at as far as king gave Jackson give us a Pro Bowl tight even operable but just give us a consistent job that this year where he holds his own at the right guard position hopefully Trent brown stays healthy all year and that's a little fives that offense of line and what about the depth there because we know Brandon Parker is there are there some other players as well that haven't really been proven what are the raiders looking at depth wise because you said it's important for them to stay healthy that first from five I did add a little more depth which they knew that they needed to after last year because I think out of the line stayed healthy last year you couldn't see the street make the playoffs for the wild card teams and I think that that is not right side is still a key bit of Hudson you know all those guys that if they use can stay healthy across the board the team's gonna make the playoffs and we are done I really think that they're the key that opens up everything not just the pass protection but Jacobs in in just thirteen games put up the numbers that he did and again in behind it a big shift office of line half the time if you get that consistency there then you're you're you'll get the protection to that he's not going to have to chip somebody he can release out of the backfield and catch the ball ball get the ball out space it opens up so much in the offense and I I just really think that the the raiders address would be that they had to do with what was available in free agency and they just got a kind of hope and pray that everybody stays as healthy as they can throughout season another guy though that word that we may have not talked about just because it's a forgotten position a lot of time talking about allocating gold so guys I heck of a full back and you know a guy that I when I watched him walk for Taylor over there Wisconsin he was also a guy they called on several times when you were looking and he's a guy that can make plays offense of Lee your take on Alec Ingold he was able to board and have a good call back in this offense and he may have had a great run a cap to earn the trust of Jon Gruden to be back there and I think throughout the season the truck still more core to what they could do so as we move forward they can design a little bit more knowing his skill set the ability that he proved that he could do at the NFL level and it it just it's it's crucial to have a guy a young guy especially the king kind of anchor down that position hopefully for a while for the raiders and it's just you know guys that that extra level of comfort I guess knowing that you have a full back to open up some holes or to it to give Carson more protection back there is Kevin Bolinger Kevin two other guys on the defense by the first of the first second round pick right there the I guess the raiders had four in the top forty or whatever first and top forty two whatever Trayvon Mullen out of Clemson who had that big time game in the championship game against Alabama I like the way that his maturation went down last year later in the season I really saw this guy started to make plays in and then pay dividends and then you know you talk about a guy like that that that has a a great chance to to give that secondary a little bit of help I thought he was a guy that you know he needs to me he he needs to be there is is he's somebody that's good enough to start on this team because when we see the depth chart we start seeing guys like you know Trayvon Mullen move up on the depth chart we know Jonathan Abram we saw what we think he can do in hard knocks in a in a in the preseason and and just the attitude and what he did at Mississippi state he was outstanding he was a shut down guy you know as far as a safety which is any hit harder than heck you can see the attitude but I I don't want to lose a guy that has football skills that knows the game like an Eric Harris I thought Eric Harris was a guy that stepped up last year and really helped change the raiders season to where it looked like they could easily go into a funk after getting beat by Casey getting thumped by Minnesota and he came up big time in the game against the cold to where he helped them win that game with that pick six and he made a few big plays during the season I thought this guy I know he's not gonna win the combine drill award but this guy is a football player and I don't want to see this guy slid down the depth chart to where he doesn't get any playing time because he showed me a lot last year no I I thought he was one of the unsung heroes on the raiders defense last year is that he was one of the guys that you knew game in and game out was going to be there make some plays for you the question is is you get locked in the number shuffle this season and they eat out you have to prove yourself Donnelly every every season but every week in this morning and I think he's gonna have to fight to get as many snaps as we can on the field because the talent level around him has been raised and he is certainly got a bunch of talent and it's got a great story and he has come to pick I know they love them but he's gonna have to fight and claw to get as many stops as you can good stuff okay so let's go to draft now and let's say the.

"Aren't really realistic when you think about it, you know, and you know, I I'd really doubt that Tampa Bay put something together enough to sway Brady even a team like the Los Angeles Chargers. There's there's some reasons why it would be them and but then others are just like come on, you know, what is your best chance to win? You know birth and I just kind of don't feel like I just something about the charges does I don't take them too. Seriously. It's not like they have everything else. You know, they have some good wage. Is a in certain spots, but they also have some places that are deficient. You know it. You know Vegas is interesting, but it's it's more of like a branding move. Yeah, he ends up going to Vegas. It's because he can be the poster child for this new franchise in Vegas home. He can sell tb12 there. It's close to Los Angeles, which is going to have a lot of ties to hear in his post-playing career. So Vegas is like LeBron going to the Lakers really, you know, it's a concave three branding move a relocation of the TV 12 brand to the West Coast. Yeah, exactly and But but I mean What weapons does Vegas have that's the thing that I don't understand is that people talk about guys like Tyrell Williams or hunter renfroe or Darren Waller and Jake Jacob's like that's like some amazing. No. No, like this is some high-powered offense, but it's not and they can't get in Tonio Brown back there because they've already gone down that road. So Brady can't get get his guy and Antonio Brown to a place like Vegas. So it's just a to me on paper. I'm kind of scratching my head saying we're okay like their offensive line is decent it's aging but it's it's got some decent parts to it certainly their tackles and Britain Trent Brown and Kolton Miller solid players. Darren Waller is a fine tight end, but he's not even a frog runcrowd Broad Brook drunk. I can't say his name right now. It's not even half drunk, right? So I just that's a part of it that I don't really understand is where is this notion coming from that the radar wage? A significantly better pass-catching Arsenal than the Patriots do yeah, they don't. Yeah, it's just it's just hard to find that perfect team and even even if you might have it, it's like is it still better than the Patriots if they had another weapon, you know through this next few. So, I just it's it's fun to go back and forth with the teams and do you know does Brady fit here, you know, but I just there's there's no like Like dominant like like this team is definitely the team team. I think that's why the Titans make have made the most Headway in this couple of weeks here since the wage speculation has really started to ramp up is because they are a great fit for him, you know, a lot of different ways, you know, he's obviously really close to the variable and basically my understanding is that it would be like rainbows got the defense Brady's got the offense, right and it's more like a partnership with Rabil than it is going to be like with Belichick where it's clearly a a hierarchy of head coach and quarterback, you know coach a white with red bull. It's going to be a lot more even but I think might interest Brady a little bit and on top of that they have the offensive line if they can bring Derrick Henry back..
