"Was a really, really impressive 40 minutes by Kansas. And I'm pretty sure I heard the announcer say dick with the move or a great move by dick, like 6 times last night. I mean, I get it, but you can lay it on a little thick there, I feel. People intentionally lay it on a little thick. I think laying it on a little thick with dick is like I'm doing it right now. But there are things that even if you're calling a basketball game straight, it's just gonna sound funny because his name's dick for crying out loud. If Kofi coburn can change his name, the pronunciation of it, at least. I don't know why Grady dick couldn't. The first, the first thing in Kansas is like these games happen, then the sports information directors they send out recaps and so if your media member you're on the blast list and even it's even finding its way into the copy, like the first quote says, I love it, dick said afterward, you know? There's a whole lie is gonna be the rest of his life. This poor guy. One of us, one of us. I can look at him until he's one of us. There we go. So I bet he was one of us last night. All right, here we go. Texas tech beats Texas. Just a little inside baseball. Good, God, Gary. That was getting that was going a very bad way. In Texas tech is still having a season on the whole that is not what fans were hoping, but at one point that was a ten and ten team that hadn't won a game in league play. And there was real noise that Mark Adams might not be able to hold on to his job by the end of the season. I think he's done enough there and he'll be safe, but it has been there's been a lot down there in Lubbock and for the program now to have won four of its past 6. Good on them. Tech Texas losing those kind of games, though, at to your point, winning on the league in the big 12, every single game every single venue is hard, absolutely, but that kind of win, if you can pull it off on the road and take care of business at home, that's what it would have gotten Texas to stand alone in big 12 championship. I can still get there, but that loss really does ding them. I do want to, I'm glad you brought up Oklahoma over Kansas state because zero sum, right? You're going to have some teams take some surprising wins. That means some other teams got to take some else. So in the big 12 right now, Iowa state, which plays Wednesday at home against TCU. Iowa state has lost four or 5 TCU meantime, still waiting for Mike miles to return has lost four or 5 overall. And now Kansas state is another one. These were teams, there was a point when all of them were top 20 in the country and they're still very good teams. But Kansas state, it was 17 and two. Almost a month ago, we look up now and it's 19 and

"Coburn will be on a guaranteed contract in the NBA next season. He believes that he will be. Sometimes it's important to get into the mindset of guys like this. Imagine being awesome at something your entire life. And then not believing you're going to continue to be awesome at it. Regardless of the circumstances, like these guys, I've been awesome forever. I don't care what you say. Just let me let me get in, let me go to the combine. Let me get in these workouts. I'll show these guys what I can do. I'll get picked. And then he either will or he won't, and he'll either get a contract or he won't. He'll live with his decision for better or worse. I wish him luck. But that's an important to understand as we sit here and explain why Kofi coburn isn't a perfect NBA prospect. It doesn't mean that Kofi coburn agrees. It doesn't mean the Kofi coburn doesn't think he'll be in the NBA next season. And you know, these are just the best explanation is that probably. He thinks he does have an NBA future. And he's ready to get to that. Oscar shibe was willing to put that off for at least a year to maximize what he can make and maximize his time at the university of Kentucky. Both decisions are fine with me. There was a time in my career where I thought I knew what everybody ought to do. But I abandoned that mindset a long time ago. Now my only hope for all of these people is that they're well informed when it comes time to make these big life altering decisions. And then you know what? Do whatever you want. It doesn't matter much to me. Like I said on the previous podcast, I got three sons. I tend to worry about their decisions, not the decisions of college basketball players. You ready to get out of here? You can roll. My man's ready to get on with his four 20th. It appears. Not a shot. Not a shot? No shot. No. I would like to watch my kids, man. What are you talking about? There is nobody in the world got that many guitars hanging behind them without some edibles in a drawer somewhere. Zero edibles in this house. You got some edible somewhere. I've never ingested an edible in my life. Do you have a drop in it? Do you have a drug dealer? No, I do not. You need one. I don't. Okay. Although the emergency intro, which you haven't heard that I recorded for the podcast view for this, I did lean on the four 24 20 I can't even believe it. Is that what people do when they get high? Talk like that? You would know more than anything, I don't know. I don't think I would talk like that if I were high. You want to try that sometime? That's true. I think I would probably just sit there and watch YouTube for a few hours. Your best, your best, I know there's like 12 year olds. Your best Mary Jane adjacent album that you like to go to. Not that you know, not that the activity go with it, but that's stoner record. It's your best, what's your go to stoner record? Okay. Yeah, it's not really my thing. You're gonna throw on like a little Bob Marley every now and then I guess that would be what applied, right? And you're like, oh, listen to some Marley. Sounds like the most cliche thing you could do. That's like, would you not do it? I have never gotten high and listened to Bob Marley. I didn't say you had to do the first thing. I would just say, would you not listen to Bob Marley? It's probably been 25 years since I put on a Bob Marley album. Wow. Okay. Like everybody owned it in high school. Everybody.

"Line is one 888 9 9 7 8 9 in Tennessee, visit one 800 gambler dot net in West Virginia. So Zack Edie, 7 foot four. I mean, he's how heavy you see. Two 85. Two 85. Big boy. Big boy. A guy this dominant at the college level. You would think you would think that he could get a cup of coffee. A latte and espresso in americano in the NBA. Do you think that he will, why or why not? So with Edie, okay, oh, he's just a big guy, whatever. But then I'm watching Jaden ivy and then every game you watch Jaden ivy, it's like your eyes are just naturally drawn to this absolute giant of a human being scoring at will basically every single game he plays, like I think it's worth putting you send me some numbers, Kyle. It was like, this guy's putting up Shaq Zion numbers in college. He's just literally scores a well every single game he plays, and it's preposterous. There's a great website that people should check out called analytics. They have great visualizations for college data. It's really great if you're like any level of following along, they have something for you, but they have this scatter graph where they were showing like players across the power 5, players across the country, their efficiency, and you can see the dots on there and there's this one dot that's up in the upper right quadrant away from everybody and it's Zach Edie with his secretary at level efficiency. I mean, offensively he doesn't do a lot of stuff. Like he does some pretty basic things. I mean, he kind of I've noticed a lot that he'll sort of like set a screen and then his guy will be behind him and he'll like just wheel right into like a seal like he'll seal his guy and then do a baby hook. I mean, offensively I don't really see him doing a lot at the next level because I don't think that he's taken a jump shot in like two years of Purdue if I'm not mistaken. That's the thing. So I think for me watching porzingis the last couple of years has made me appreciate Zack Edie. But you're going all the way the other way. If I'm 7 four two 85, I can just score it well at the rim, why would I need to do anything else? And he has great footwork. He can use either hand. He has a good feel for the game. Like when he's double the fines the open man, a lot of Jayden ivy's assists, he'll get to the lane and then just kind of the defense collapses and you just throw the ball up and then Zach eat he's going to get the ball and he's just talking about whatever he's like a catch diameter. Get a catch radius. Catch radius is what they call it. This guy literally can catch anything around the basket and he's going to score and then okay, yeah, you think in the end that I wouldn't work, but why not? He'd be the biggest player in the NBA too. And he's so strong. It isn't like he's done even like the strongest player in the NBA. He'll be able to bang with those guys at his size. Yeah, it was cracking me up when the Kofi coburn Zack eating matchup I was joking with you was like, it was like a Pacific Rim sequel basically to watch. You get to watch Kofi coburn like wall him up. But to Edie's credit, he was like walling him up on his left shoulder and Edie was just like, okay, I'll spin right shoulder and baby hook on him. Well, 'cause this is the thing so this guy Kofi coburn. He's 6 11, 300. Like his whole life. He's been the biggest guy on the floor. He just dominates guys. And then he plays Zach idiot. It's like, not anymore, man. You're kind of a small guy now. Yeah. Right? He makes a guy who's 6 11, 300 looks small. He really does. And I guess some of it around. I remember to go back to the Bo Bond thing. I'm thinking, oh, okay, he'll be in the end. He'll be a Bo Bon type. But then I looked at it, Bo Bon didn't become a player until he was like 25. Like Boban didn't even get big minutes in Europe until his mid 20s. Zack Edie is straight up dominating college basketball 20. And then it forces you to ask the question like, I feel almost blasphemous asking this and maybe this is a stupid question. Like, could he be Yao Ming? I don't know. I mean, he's big as Yao Ming. He has, I think he has Yao Ming's touch. Maybe I forgot a good Yao Ming was. I don't know. I think you have forgotten what yelling. Maybe it's I love the question though. I text you back, I was just like, I just love the question. I'm glad that it's just so chalky and to ask. But I think no, I mean, Yao Ming had like a lot of passing touch. He had like face up game. His body broke down, obviously, but I mean, he was like, had very broad skill set and he was bigger. Not by much. He was the same size as the exact ED. We're talking 747 5 300. It's about the same size. I guess it's splitting hairs. But the thing for me, I think that the differentiator, like the filter for players that big, we talked about like taco is taco fall can get a chance in India. I know Zach ED came because Edie is like, way more skilled. And it actually like passing out of the post. I had a number in front of me earlier that like, he hasn't popped at all, like we said, there's no face up game. He's rolled to the basket on. Let's see, 93.3% of the pick and rolls he's been involved in. Use its 34.1 true shooting 69.1. The question is the filter for guys that big is defense. And we're talking about could he play in like a fourth quarter crunch time, playoff scenario. He can't switch the NBA. He's gonna have to be like a drop guy. He doesn't block a ton of shots either. I think at best case scenario, I think he's just gonna be like an obstruction. He's gonna be like a disruptor, a big guy. Defensively, what do you think of him really quick before we move on? Well, I mean, that is the question, right? He'd have to be living in a drop, and then as wood is offense be good enough to justify living in a drop. And you almost have to have like jokic level offense to justify that on a good team. That is ultimately the question. And I don't think he'll have jokic level offense, but oh, you don't. I don't know though. That's two blast movies in one pod from you. I said I don't think so. But just like he'll probably stay in school at data comes pro this year. He's not getting much buzz. All this to say is you're going to want to watch Jayden ivy, but when you watch shade and IV, there's going to be this other guy, you're just going to have to see for yourself. It's just fun to watch a guy that big get buckets in my opinion. It's inevitable. We always go through this every season of the people who are dialed in on NBA and then they drop into the college world and to our world, we live in the dark. They're just tourists. No, when they come and it's inevitable to see the tweets, people are gonna be like, this guy's fucking huge and I'm excited to see it. Zack Edie is like a really interesting novel player. Before being the show, I wanted to talk about somebody, probably has more common. There's like a nice transition, I think, between Jake navy and this guy. I would just soon move. I guess the question I would want to ask you is what is your level of surprise to how well I would assume has played. Because in this past month, he's kind of made the most of some opportunity. The bulls obviously have just been like ravaged by injury. They've had a lot of guys out. I think Lonzo being out was probably the biggest thing for me. Well, Caruso, too. Yeah, yeah. What have you made of sunu? What's pop for you about him? I also want to point out that here we go. To tease the next segment. We're going to talk about a guy who literally none of people in this pot of herd of. And you just totally bury talking about this very high profile rookie for a high profile team. It just says something about my priority. Your segment teasing is just that is truly an elite skill you have. I'm a man of the people. The little guy. The voice of the house. Oh my gosh. Let's reel it in right now immediately. You insulted Yao Ming. Anyway, go ahead, sorry. So IO, he's been really good from the start of the season. And it's been fun to watch him because he started the year. There was so much perimeter town in Chicago. He's playing behind Derozan Levine, Lonzo Caruso..

"Major bandwidth problems in Indiana after Kofi coburn and the align I overwhelm the hoosiers in the final 20 minutes of Saturday's game. It's not completely out 'cause I did hear from some of the Anna fans, but clearly there's some issues that gotta get resolved. I hope that gets taken care of. ASAP. Dad like you talked to Illinois coach Brad Underwood after the game. He was on the bus, headed back to champagne. What do you have to say about his latest nice victory? He had a lot to say. We talked plenty about it. And that column, yes, is on the site and on your CBS sports app. We'll drop it in the podcast description as well. If you're listening to this episode on Sunday Night or Monday or whenever and you'd like to read it and you haven't gotten to it yet, Brad hunter would have a lot to say and it was a good conversation, obviously he was in high spirits after Illinois got a very morale boosting win here. I mean, the line I did not realize this until I got the game notes after. It was the largest margin of victory for Illinois and that building ever, 50 years worth of assembly hall history, Illinois had never won by as many as it did 74 57 margin there. In fact, the last time Illinois beat Indiana on the road by this many points was January 14th, 1956, man. Illinois held Indiana to a season low in points with 57, a season low in shooting percentage, 36% from the field and only 20 made field goals. Illinois really did turn off Indiana's water, and now this align I team at ten and two through 12 games has the best record shouts to you not if we're throwing the column there on the screen if you're watching on YouTube, hello to everyone. Ten and two. Best record for Illinois since the obviously 2005 team was 1203 12 games in Big Ten play that team only wound up went losing two games the entire season. Illinois during its four game winning streak has held its opponents to an average of 58.8 points, 36% from the field and 21.7% from three. So that's all backdrop to what I talked to Brad Underwood about because I came away from this game, which wasn't that close, but I thought Illinois is now a viable story here. I came away think in Illinois as a final four contender potentially even a national championship contender. And I got to thinking about everything that this program has been through over the past ten plus months. And a lot of that is covered in the column, so I won't completely rehash it here. But I did ask Brad Underwood if you could kind of take me back to the last march when they got knocked out of the tournament. And then he soon thereafter lost his best player. Expectantly to the NBA draft lost all three assistants, best I can tell and at least the past 15 years this has never happened. One seed loses an NBA draft pick and all three assistants, but retains its head coach. At least 15 years, Illinois has in a spot that other programs, other teams, other head coaches just don't normally find themselves in. And Kofi cobra and at that point, we didn't know if he was going to try and go pro. He was his name was in the transfer portal. And so some of Underwood's explanation to all that and how he approached it is in the column there. But it's been remarkable to see what Illinois has been has done. When you really look at the fact that only four players have played in every single game, cobra and 5 games, kerbel is more than two months. Trent Frazier's missed a couple of games. They got a back a point guard who's out for the season because a hernia surgery. It would be understandable GP if Illinois was simply a good team in the middle of the pack of the Big Ten with some decent NCAA tournament at large hopes and not the team that it is right now. What it is right now is a team that's better and you can see game stats on YouTube right now. It's 17 and 5 through 22 games. That's one game better than it was through 22 games a season ago when Illinois was receiving a bit more hype granted a bit more heading into the season than this year's team. But this group arguably could be better than the one with the sumo. And I think it's remarkable because from all of the injuries to the COVID to just resetting your entire staff, which I think Illinois fans are keen to that, but I think your average fan might not give that as much credence as it deserves. A head coach to turn over his entire staff is a massive undertaking. Now, having Kofi coburn return is a huge deal. Sure. But as I wrote, you know, the obstacles are the opportunities for this program. And no, I would not have rat underworld for a second or third for national coach of the year, but if you really look at everything that he is overcome in the past ten plus months to get Illinois alone atop the Big Ten standings and in my opinion, yes, a national title contender with this team, they have not even played that they're ceiling yet. Underwood told me, is still two, three weeks away minimally from just being in game shape enough where he can trust him to go for 30 plus minutes and play at a high level. So keep all that in mind, big time win for the align eye. They were one of the biggest stories for me coming out of the weekend. That's why I decided to write a site for Saturday. I thought one of the interesting points Brad made while talking to you is like, you guys, I'm assuming we're sort of discussing the last season's team had all this hype. And this season's team, which is comparable, hasn't had nearly as much. And he said, we beat duke early last season. And once you beat duke early, then everybody thinks you're, oh wow, like they had that big signature win very early in the season that jumped them on everybody's radar and was like, oh, you gotta pay attention to this. They just went to Cameron indoor and won. Of course, Cameron indoor was empty. We didn't know duke sucked at that point. That's the thing. That's the other thing. We didn't know duke socked. And I didn't remember it this way, but I went back and looked. Do you know they've immediately, of course you know, 'cause I'm sure you looked at this yet. They immediately back the duke win with a loss to Missouri that they beat Minnesota lost to Rutgers. They Through 8 games, and then they sort of took off and became what they became, but they weren't shot out of a cannon at the beginning of last season and.

"The start of the games and we'll get into the feast week real quickly. And the Virginia used to game, but Illinois. Tough, tough loss, they did not play well. That's probably an understatement. Great win for marquette. Andres Cabello just seemed to me like at a sort, whether it's, you know, you're losing your security Brian. I don't know if it was Kofi coburn or I would assume, but it seemed like he was trying to do too much. Just quick question for you guys. Concerned about Illinois or, you know what, Mark can't do what they had to do to win. Yeah, I'm concerned to the extent that I think Andre Cabello is feeling a lot of pressure. I mean, I don't just Sue me, not only was their best perimeter defender, but when it was time for them to get a bucket or to make a play, he had the basketball in his hands and stuff, when you're the secondary guy, you can kind of play a ton of free and fast because Batman in that case, I don't see what was there to kind of cover up your mistakes if you will. But now playing without Kofi coburn to your point Seth, he was just trying to do just playing too fast and trying to do way too much. And I think when Kofi coburn gets back out there on the floor, I think that'll settle him down a little bit more because Kofi will be taken up a lot more room, obviously in the painted area, and it allowed him to play within himself. I watched on an Andre cabrillo that was putting the weight of the world on his shoulders and trying to do everything. And he just doesn't play as efficiently that way. That game pissed me off. The reason it pissed me off was because of and you don't want to piss off J billis. You do not. But Kofi coburn's absence was just wrong. And, you know, right now, the NCAA is going through a constitutional rewrite and the constitutional fentanyl so they don't unduly punish athletes anymore. And yet they continue to do it. They just did it with the UMass tennis program. They're doing it where they did it with Oklahoma state basketball and they did it to Kofi coburn. What did he do? He gave money to charity from some of his memorabilia. When he thought, and he thought he was going pro. And he decided to come back, which we should all celebrate and welcome that a young man. Our young person is coming back to further their education. And play in a multi-billion dollar business and make us a bunch of money. And what do they do? They suspend them for multiple games, which benefits no one. And look, we could draw some parallels and say, well, you know, but yet the serious things happen, there are no suspensions, but while the constitutional issues going on, we're continuing to do this. And all I could think of is this is needless and wrong and what lesson is being learned. Like Kofi coburn will never donate to charity again. I never do that again. It just really pisses me off. Yeah. All right, we don't want to piss you off, so now I'm gonna pitch it. What was your take on Michigan? Obviously, I thought that first of all, I really like seat and hall's team. I think they're older, start 5 seniors. They have a physicality about them a sense of purpose. I thought they talked to Kevin war today a little bit defensively. They're really good. I think they're going to catch up offensively. Michael Smith was a pretty good player. And gave him a little bit more direction, concerns about Michigan. Obviously hunter Dickinson, they had like 32 38 points in the paint, but I didn't think the ball moved the way it had a year ago. They've got really good players today is going to be a good player obviously Caleb Houston struggled shooting the ball yesterday. How good is seat hall? How good do you think Michigan is and is this just a game two good teams played in someone's got to lose? I think seat and hall is way better than they're getting credit for. Not that you're doing this, but this has become about Michigan, more so. And I guess that happens when your top 5 top ten team and lose. But that's the value. We say we want these big time games to start the season and then the team loses and everybody snaps their cap over it. And again, not that we're doing that. But I think Michigan just shot it poorly. But you know, at the same time, they had two free throws to tie the game and send it to overtime. So if you take it to, you know, essentially a week ago when UCLA and Villanova played that barn burner if Justin Moore makes that shot over jaylen Clark at the end of the game, we're talking about how tough and great Villanova is and maybe UCLA is not as good as we thought. When the truth is, they're both kick ass good. And they're both they're both final four contenders. You know, so, you know, maybe if those two free throws go down, which is not a stretch, Michigan wins that thing in overtime, and we're talking about a great they are. You know, look, the three of us know and a lot of our listeners know that these games are important barometers for where you're going to be. They're not the be all and end all. And maybe we can see a ceiling that some team has or maybe a flaw or two that they can work on. But you know, I can't remember the last time we got to the lead 8 and said, hey, remember that game in November? That could be a problem. You know, thankfully, this isn't football. Games have no favor that became a problem for me, Mark..

"You know, ultimately, I don't think it's going to now the question is, all those coaches that were starting to feel good about themselves, right, Bill self. Probably starting to feel a little bit better, watching some of the recent decisions and now he's with his Alma mater, by the way. Oklahoma state. And he's got to be thinking himself. Oh shit. Right? How could you not? But it seems like this could be a deal where Oklahoma state pays the price and maybe others don't. I don't know. I don't know how they can be. I consistent. I know. There's no consistency. It's like here's what it's like. Here's what it's like. They do this. They take it, they throw it in the hat and they pull it out. And they pull it out and they're like, postseason band. All right. USC, no, you're good. Yeah, creighton, you're okay too. And Kansas, we're gonna get your lifetime bad. What a jury torching and say about the NCA. Yeah, that they're gonna like some small school screwed up, so they'll screw up. They punish Cleveland state or something. Yeah, yeah. That's what this is. So I think that this could be Oklahoma state just taking the fall. I mean, it looks like with USC and South Carolina, right? Yeah, no. It's absolutely amazing at this point. So this comes on the heels of another one earlier this week. It got some pub, too, because it's one of the best parties in the country. Kofi coburn, Illinois. Some people have them like first team all American. Whatever it is, he's dominant, right? He decides to put his name in for the drive last year after the season. Then he puts his name in the portal, but I guess he sold some gear on players Trump in the interim. And I don't know how much it was. A couple grand, a couple hundred. I don't even know what the exact figure was. But basically the NCAA is suspending him for three games to start the season because he made some money before he was actually able to make. Now, since then, my guess is Kofi coburn has probably an NL made hundreds of thousands of dollars already. That's my guess. At least to me a hundred grand Kofi cobra's got.

"And memorable in violation of old NCA rules. Best I can tell, he did this in June. If he would have done it in July, it's not an issue. But because he did it in June, it was at the time of violation of NCAA rules and the punishment will be a three game suspension. And so, you know, the timing, the young man had poor timing. And I understand why people are fed up with it, like, come on. What are we doing? He's an all American and you're taking them out of it for what? But if you wanted to argue the other side of it, it was June 2021. There were roles in place, even if the rules were about to be changed. And, you know, he broke the rules. And arguing that the rules changed after the fact, I don't, you know, it's just not a very good argument. Well, there's a lot of context around this and to anyone that wants to compare Mark fuse suspension versus Kofi coburn versus Jalen Wilson. They are different situations being dictated by different factors. Jalen Wilson was a coach, athletic director decision. Mark few was a university president war decision. And this is an NCAA decision. They're not remotely the same. And remember, now remember this because it seems to many people bring this up. Not that it excuses. I'm just trying to give you more background as to why all of this happened. Kofi coburn was no surefire thing to return and play for Illinois this season. The fact that he has puts Illinois in the conversation for preseason top ten team and, you know, maybe the best team in the Big Ten and all that. But Kofi coburn was gonna maybe go to the NBA. And then he was in the transfer portal. So for Kofi cobra and GP, he might have been done at this point when he was doing this. I know he was like still considering Illinois, but like, at this point, like what he was doing, he was like, I don't know if I'll ever play there again. Why not? I get it happen why it happened. Here's what here's what brought Underwood said. When the release came out on Monday, we are disappointed with the three game suspension because there were unprecedented factors and altered timelines, love me some altered timelines GP. Multi universe theory. Here we go. Underwood continues related to his decision to ultimately withdraw from the NBA draft and return to school. Once Kofi had a full understanding of where he stood regarding the draft, he made an educated decision to return to school, work toward his degree and continue improving his game. That said, we understand and respect the NCAA's decision in this matter. And we will move forward accordingly. As always, Kofi's attitude and outlook remain upbeat and positive. He is focused on helping his teammates prepare for the season. And we can't wait to have him rejoin us on the court. I think Illinois got off easy. And I don't say that meaning, I believe Illinois that coburn should have had a longer suspension or anything like that. I'm saying, I think the answer to a look at this case, all the details involved with it. And otherwise, might have had grounds to suspend him for 6 or even 9 games or ten games, otherwise. The fact that it is just three games in Atlanta, when it landed, I think, is actually probably I'm going to criticize the incident at the start of the podcast and maybe give it a little bit of a dap here at the end. I could see a situation where if it wasn't right up on July 2021, parish when the rules changed. And if we were still kind of in that in between, what's really going to happen deal? This would have been a longer suspension, depending on the gear and how much he sold it for, et cetera, et cetera. And I also don't think this is going to matter. I think Illinois is going to win all those games. It's got two small schools and marquette. Now marquette will be a little tricky, but they're gonna be down this season and I think Illinois without coburn is good enough to be the golden eagles. We'll wait and see. But I don't actually think the suspension is going to matter to Illinois in the win loss column. But as always, I reserve the right to be quite wrong. I don't think it'll matter either. I think they'll still start three O and it'll fly by. And then you'll look up and he'll be ripping rims off the backboard very quickly. If you listen to this podcast, you know, I hate the rules. I hated I've always hated those rules. I hate all the rules. I hate every rule. But like, you know, you broke the rule and there is typically a price to pay for that. And so it is what it is. It reminds me a little bit not to get too serious again. But. One of these things is a very serious issue. The other not really. I don't mean to come across like I'm comparing the two. It's just something that popped into my head as I was watching people discuss this. The Ahmad Arbery case down in Georgia is getting ready to go to trial. And I was listening to a podcast about it because that's actually the type of podcast that listened to. I don't listen to sports podcasts at all. I was listening to a podcast about that. Because on a surface level, it was like, okay, this should be a rap. Like, you know, three white men chased down an unarmed black man who was jogging. Wanted a rifle Adam and shot him. It's on video. Like, this is easy. And what you find out, according to experts, it's not easy, because of Georgia law at the time of that shooting, killing. There is actually a reasonable chance. These men are not going to be convicted of murder. Based on what the way the law was written at the time. But what's interesting is that this is like the one thing Republicans and Democrats can agree on anywhere, especially in Georgia, is that that video of his killing was so.

"360 five, the early 8 powered by sports line is all about daily best bets and having a whole heck of a lot of fun doing it. Download and follow the early edge on Apple podcasts, Spotify, and of course, YouTube. So we've also tabulated votes for our CBS sports preseason all American teams. Let me run you through them real quick. The first team is calling to lesbian from Villanova. Johnny Zhang from UCLA. Parliament Caro from duke drew Timmy from Gonzaga and Kofi coburn from Illinois. Let's stop there. Does that replicate your ballot? I had four of those guys on my first team. I did not have Colin Gillespie. I don't have any problem with Congress to be in there. Obviously, it totally reasonable. I had Macs instead of Colin Gillespie. Doesn't match. Our CBS sports preseason all America teams was a tabulation of writers at CVS sports dot com, a few from two four 7 sports, which is in partnership with CBS sports. And then every year in the preseason, we do get a handful of input from CBS and CBS Sports Network college basketball analysts. So we really have a big old mix here. And so no, I only have three of the 5 GP. My first team ballot was Timmy ban Caro coburn, and I think those Timmy and coburn were unanimous ban care. I think was, as well. And then I had I had nothing but bigs on mine because I don't abide by I don't care. This team has never playing any other team. I don't need to start with a point guard. And you know what? I take the starting 5 against almost anyone else anyway. Because I think big Carol could run the point. Timmy Ben Caro coburn, trace Jackson Davis of Indiana, and then produced travie on Williams. So yeah, three of my 5 are big men from the Big Ten. That was mine. So you had four to 5. I had three of the 5. Yeah, and juicing is somebody who just had a remarkable run late last season. He averaged 22.8 points in the incident late tournament at 20 8 in the elite 8 against Michigan, 29 in the final four against Gonzaga. And launched himself into a place where I think you could reasonably call him a preseason national player that your candidate and a first team preseason all American, especially considering he's not just somebody who posted big numbers, but he toast to big number for a team that is now ranked second in the preseason Timmy. Like we noted, preseason national player of the year, average 19 and 7 last season for a team that was undefeated on the night of the national championship game. Led Gonzaga last season and points rebounds blocks and field goal percentage. He was terrific, coburn, 17 and 7. I mean, 17.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game last season, big numbers. He's a monster. And then Colin Gillespie is again the other first teamer. You and I neither one voted for him, but he is, you know, a reigning biggie's player of the year who is back for a 5th season. You realize he's already played a 118 college basketball games. And now has an entire season in front of him. And could theoretically if Villanova went all the way. Yeah. He could get to a hundred and 58 career games, which would be a tie for the most played all time by a division one player. Trinity time. David leidy. Bang. You son of a. How did you know that? Come on, don't even question me on this. David lady, one of my I've mentioned this on a distant podcast in the past, one of my 20 favorite random college troopers of the past two decades. David lady. Yeah, that unfortunately, that record is going away this year, because there's going to be a lot of dudes that pass him. Charlie Morris passes David lady this year by the way. Down in Miami, fourth theme? Yeah. So you were so excited. I knew I thought I had you on that. I'm shocked. I looked it up, and I was like, this, they will never get this. Zip in your pitches right now. Tipping your pitches. There is another, there's one other player on our all American teams. Who has already played a 118 college games. That's already played that many? Yes. Buddy behind? No, it's Remy Martin. Remmy Martin, yeah, okay. I forgot he was on. Did not vote for remmy Martin. We'll get to that in a minute there. Second team is max 8 from oral Roberts, buddy beyon from Syracuse, EJ lid from Ohio State. Trace Jackson Davis from Indiana and hunter Dickinson from Michigan. A Smith is the guy I had first team. You know, there were four players who were postseason CBS sports all Americans last season that are back in college. It's true to me, Kofi coburn, hunter Dickinson and max agents. And so I wasn't gonna elevate anybody over where he was at the end of last season. Anybody who was returning to college. So that's why I ended up going a first team as opposed to Colin Gillespie who I had on the second team. A spis thing is just so interesting to me because he led the nation's scoring last season. I don't think we set.

"Catch up that it opens everything up on the wing, or if he rebounds at the outlet, maybe it advances to javari there's something there swing it back and there's Waller castle trailing and he can take those three. So I don't necessarily view it as much of a negative, but yeah, I don't know what to make of the roster. You look at, you see all these different names. It's like, well, that guy does this. It's not as clear cut as these 5 in your stars. This is kind of the offense. Like, tailored to kind of just like the personnel that's on the court at that given time. Yeah, and we'll talk about flanagan as an NBA prospect at some point too. Like when we do wings, like he's actually really interesting, but now he's out for a little while. And they have jabari Smith, who is like very clearly a potential lottery pick. And walker Kessler is like essential pro and they have all these point guards. I have no idea. I just genuinely like have no idea what this is going to look like. In terms of is it actually an effective product on the court that like wins games, you know? It will improve and also coach, which helps. Yeah, Bruce pearl's good coaching basketball. Yeah. That's our takeaway today. Yeah. We'll see what goes. We'll see what happens there. Okay. Two Big Ten big guys. Kofi coburn and hunter Dickinson. I am much higher on Kofi coburn than I am hunter Dickinson. Where are you on those two? Yes. Agree. Those guys both underwhelmed at the combine. And then I didn't really take anything away being like, oh that didn't see that during big time player. Oh, because during the year, yes, I found more of an upside. More of an appeal, I guess to coca coburn's pro prospect. I was surprised he came back to school. I mean, he had pro offers to go out there..

"I think it's great. I mean i i liked it illinois not afraid of the fire and it's also data the day kofi coburn you know you look at the two teams like kofi coburn's the best player you between those two programs right now so at the end of the day advantage between all three programs you'd better hundred tickets dickinson. He's better talk. he's got for gender. So i enjoy what also kentucky michigan or both better teams in illinois ethic. Yes you're always better last year. The michigan was but a an anti. They were better vote I think i think kentucky michigan better team so let let the let the debates commenced you know like. That's what that's what makes fun. Just don't don't get me well. Well speaking of someone getting involved in this whole process right so this is happening. There's a page on instagram. It's called cb content if you don't follow it it's like we're all the fodder is right. It's like the guy that runs. this is is. He's welty no doubt. he's twelve years old. And like i all the page. Because i can't follow twelve-year-old. I'll check in and see what's going on in the comments of this. You know. title washington drama is atta miller. You know obviously five-star crude you know chicago kid that goes to play for illinois for one year then transfers the will wait in the bag. He's in the comments and he's like illinois fans me. I don't even know why like i got the marines like crying. Laughing emoji ring is what he said. I'm not even kidding. It's like a hundred comments of these illinois fans ruthlessly going admitted no kid deserves this but like you know what i mean like you. You talk about involving yourself. It's like something that's happening over here. At miller should be you know out of the way you know b- practicing with will wade and his team. Lsu that he jumps in the comments and then these illinois fans who like you said. They're lit on fire anyway Their hair is on fire. They are burning. They wanna attack anybody. Adam miller jumps in the comments and this is like you know fresh meat for them. They are just like this is this is what we wanted. And they're just going savagely after and You know poor one outta miller but the illinois fans are fired up. We need to have katy back to give us an update on. What's it sounds like. It's an illinois story more so than kentucky you don't availa- you sounds. We'll count the first two parts of the three par chapter. Were all good for now. It's like it's like cova vid like kick it out. Get it out of here. I wanna have people in china and then we get the number under crew. We're going to have the number one recruiting class for the first time since what two thousand eighteen or so like they make it sound like. It's like long laborious process to get number one recruiting class again and then tie. Washington starts this whole. But i think it's good for kentucky because having a arrival in the big ten that you don't have to play one it kind of gets louisville out of the way like we don't like you know we're not talking to you guys anymore. Like stop chris. Mac and right had this national rival with illinois indiana. So you don't have to worry about like the mike woodson play and mike woodson actually has more. Aba experienced coach cows so he actually has more cachet in those spaces like get out of here. Take illinois where you know that. You're you know the better version of brad underwood and coach cows mine. So you focus on your target here and you also have the back pocket of you know. Your girlfriend was with us aka coca cola like that. They have all the all the chips so they get their adam. I need a. I need a ride college basketball rivalry to start On the internet a non conference starts doing this. A lot of sense of as kentucky. And all roy start playing each other now solely because their fans Each other players talking shit on the internet and all that underwood in cal- call each other and like should we play. I think it'd be good just to like. Let's just do it right. let's do it right. I don't think i'll see you at mohegan sun right. I mean that's that's that's the play like somewhere like that. This is where this is where a college basketball needs. Dana white because we're he forces them to play each other because the brand was not calling. John calipari versa. They're not talking. They're not could you not on group jazz. But if it was like mandated that that bilas steps up and he's he's the dana white of college basketball and he dislike assesses. The heavyweight picture of college basketball de contenders are out there. And he's like all right. Here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna make you to plates. Go ahead fight do it. What if that's the meeting this fall. You know the incidental as having their meeting there. Come to jesus meeting. What if that's the decision. That's made like they consult with you. Know vince mcmahon and dana white and all these and mark ever comes back. And he's like. I got to more like vincent man you know. Got to be more like dana white. I gotta like suspend people for games. I got a force big time match ups. I gotta create drama like that. That might be the move there. I would argue that college. Sports and professional wrestling are already very similar to each other. The characters the yeah. It's real and one of them is acting and you. He'll turn which we don't.

It's almost like a less less of a scoring mentality. Dion waiters times ten but All right let me get a couple more guys from you. Finish up you have jaylen johnson going twenty four. Most people do not have that. I didn't love what i saw duke. I'm willing to like defer a bit that a it was just a really shitty season. All this stuff is going on at duke. But he just didn't play well man he just didn't look very good and i'm even though i'm not a huge jane. Johnson guy people still seem to have them in the lottery. Go twenty four to houston. I don't i don't get it i. It's often themed around the league. I don't get why people haven't known them lottery. I don't know what the spot is in the lottery like. I don't know where the landing spot is. So it's tough for me to try and navigate like why people still really liked jaylen johnson. And i mean like. I'm sure you've asked around like questions. About jaylen johnson in terms of let's go with Emotional maturity navy in terms of like willingness to fight through adversity. Maybe as a fair way to characterize it right. Yeah that's fair. Like i don't care about the guys being multiple high schools anymore. I don't i just don't because it's kind deal now and you know and i'm not saying that you do either but It's just. I don't know he's kind of the same ship bike. Hey well it'd be one thing if you played well instead all right now. Just getting ready for the pros. But he didn't play well and then it was like ours. He's he's kinda guy even though there's there's this foundation skills and all that size which is reason should able top ten pick the whole season anyway. So he's like basically like with. Scotty barnes couldn't like didn't care defensively is what i think like. He has similar in terms of passing. Ability has similar stuff in terms of body control transition. play offensively. Can't beat anyone off. The dribble like he struggled to beat kofi coburn off the dribble in that illinois game whenever he was matched up with them. Like on the perimeter. So there's no burst. They're in the half court. I don't really buy the jumper all that much. I just don't lackadaisical defensively. I just don't. I don't get it. Don't get why people are really excited about him. Let's go through then real quick. You got kion. Johnson going twenty. I don't think this is just on you. But i mean nick was everywhere from like six seven. Whatever to now if feels like it's not just you but more people are like wait. Where the hell you guys haven't going. And now he's fallen off. Let's stay with with the sec. "Baseline spins on Kofi Coburn down low, posted outside later couldn't save it in a bad pass, and Indiana's turned it over, and I believe that is the sixth of the ball game. 45, NASA's seventh of the second half, and rather than catching the ball on the block over and pushes Jackson based on all the way up to the three point line that they had to start making his move wail far away from the basket. Not quite Comfortable. Miller throws the machine is really outside to the sumo Sumo Strives for the left and back to the right back to the left of the past a phrase or another long three and he hits again. Unbelievable to three Cinderella. We're tied at 64 as Trent Frazier takes over the game like you similar to the first match up. We're down to four minutes left in this one in Indiana is tied with the alarm A now Christian Landers gives it to Armand. He flips it over to trace. Jackson, Davis Jackson, Dave. This gives to Al Gore. Um Karam drives left pulls up, throws it out. The lander landed turns around boxes, the trace. He backs down. Colburn, then throws it out the land or a three on the way. It's off the mark remark. Coburn for Illinois and now the Alana. I could take the lead inside three minutes and 35 seconds. His Fraser across the timeline. Frazier with a basketball moves it left of the Sumer consumer. Works on our mug works out front. Now during switches to him. The symbol gives the bichon ish Billy on Deschanel's really dribbles it back. Outside was seven on the shot clock. Sumo starts to the lap feeds off the Fraser and now they're three. This is off the mark, and they're gonna call Christian Lander for a three point shot. Free throws scenario, fouling him on the three point attempt Believable. You can't do that. If you're Christian Lander. You gotta respect the ability of Frasier to hit this. Art, but inflows and out like that if you jump in the fantastic they gotta jump straight up. Heads up play from Trent Frasier Draw the foul but a silly foul from Christian Lander And they.

"The price will go to the line, looking to convert the three point play. If he can do so. He's got 18 points and he does not. The rebound is taken by Carmelo 59 56, Indiana by three Here is Carmelo with the basketball takes it to the right wing passes out the friend Frasier, Frasier finds Adam Miller with the past left side for Bellow again. Carmelo on a given go to Kobe Coburn, and he slams it home. That was a really nice play by Illinois 14 points now for Coburn, Man Cabello, as hurt as he goes to the deck over on the far side of the floor. He says he's okay. He was helping being helped to get up. Don't know what he did there. Looks like he was favoring. Unni, I'm lp banged knees with somebody read what is now getting ready, 100, what is basically gone? You want to come out or not? Propeller waves him off. He went down right away. But defensively Geronimo and Lander the two freshmen for Indiana in the in the lane, and they're not help side position and they don't know I isolate some Left wing and gets an easy pick and roll for the dunk. Got to be better than that. If you're lander and Geronimo defensively, be there on the weak side races back in the game for Geronimo, Here is lander with a basketball takes it inside, throws it out the Galloway Gray finds lander again. Top of the key bandit takes it left side. If sit back out to trade, Galloway turns around, he tries to drive it against Miller down low. He turns around clear state Grace Jackson, Davis said. He puts up a 17 footer again, his second in the ball game, actually. Three. But one day in town trace Jackson Davis has said outside jump shots tonight, and that is huge for this Indiana basketball team 19 for him, and it's a three point who's your league? Frazier with the ball finds Adam Miller with the left side pass gives it to Carmelo Carmelo on the wing. Left. Takes it down low that fakes the drives across the lane Turns around fades away, fires it up. This is the shot, rebound batted out of bounds out of long die, you, Colbert, I think touched the last He didn't like the call, But India is going to get the ball, same play, pick and roll on the left wing. But this time race Thompson's in the ball game for Indiana defensively, and he's got his head right underneath the rim, not nearly as open and Carmelo had to do something else. Good defense that time by race, Thompson the weak side Here's algorithm gives to Christian lander on the left side. He feeds it off the race race gives it out. The elder on top of the cave now face the penetration and then stops at the free throw line gives up the trace. Action babies, He turns around couple of dribbles Thursday. Back there are only seven on the shot clock now takes it right down low scoops it up and he gets fouled on the play. And Coburn's gonna get nailed by tonight, Believe maybe not. It's gonna be Curbelo. Curbelo now has picked up the foul. His fourth of the ballgame way. Got a bunch of guys in this contest with four fouls, a couple out Indiana side and two on the Illinois side. It's amazing how this game has been played at physical inside the paint, not Lot of fouls called, but out on the perimeter. Lot of the guards have been called for tick tack. Fouls are reaching in on dribble penetration. I'll just miss that first free throw and you've got to be careful. If you're a guard Rob Tennessee for Bello Al Durham, just reaching in trying to slap down the ball official see slapping down there, they're gonna blow the whistle. And that was Alice. First foul of the night on Prey. Gallaway comes out for arrest. Armand Franklin's back in his AL fires up number two and this one's good first Miss of the night for Al, but he also makes this 13 point of the ball game on free throw number two in Indiana is leading by 4 62 to 58 Trent Frazier with the ball for Illinois gives to do sumo sumo Rebel sit back outside, He's back into Adam Miller for three. He missed it. Rebound taken by Kofi Coburn inside, he forces Up a little shot, Missed it. Rebound knocked away and Alan Bellows gonna get fouled, called for a foul on that will be Miller's fourth. Follow the contest. How they got three players Look for on Coburn comes away with the offensive rebound, but thank goodness for Indiana. I'll tell you what Trace Jackson Davis is really good at contesting shots inside the paint because a great job of jumping Iz can hands up high. Not slapping down at the ball. Coburn has struggled at times Don finishing over Trace Jackson Davis for tonight. So at the line, Armand Franklin six points tonight for Armand off Field goals in this ballgame at the line for the first time, and he hits he's got his seven point of the contest. Indiana has been doing a pretty good job, but the line's survived all those traces. Missed a couple here in the second half, actually, three They're 1929. Now they bet the stripe 10 more times than Illinois on 15 points Now for my apology, Sorry about that. I'm on. Franklin gets his eight point of the ball game, but it's now 64 58. Indiana's lead is that six matey Williams checks to the sideline after being in just briefly as he shot his millions checked in. And so the Align I go with their two bigs down low Here is Trent Frasier fires toe. Miller on the right side.
