"kobe myers" Discussed on The MMQB NFL Podcast

"Okay. And if memory serves me right, I believe he started six and O his first year in Denver. So that means there's 11 and 28 in his last 39 games. McDaniel's and I wrote about this in the off season. He continued a proud tradition of every actually ex-Patriots coach comes out of New England and just finds every single person they possibly can, who at some point played in New England. Jimmy G's coming over. Brian Hoyer's over. It's Kobe Myers is over. So this is where we'll disagree part two. We were asked by our esteemed editor, Mitch Goldich to put together our season predictions and send them over. And I don't mean to spoil anything, but I will give away one of mine. I think the Raiders are going to be in the conversation for Caleb Williams and Drake May. They can't stop anybody. It's Max Crosby and then it's like you and me at corner. I don't know what, I don't know how they're going to stop teams in a conference where who's the 10th best quarterback in the AFC? Tua? Like it's ridiculous. You're going to, every week you're getting somebody who can play. I don't think they can score a ton of points. I think the one thing with the Niners and Garoppolo, and we know this, they had a great defense for years. Like they never needed Jimmy G to go and just air it out and score 30 points. The other thing is Garoppolo has always had good rapport at this tight end to your point, Michael Mayer, right? Coming out Notre Dame, second round pick. I think he's going to have a good year. I was shocked when they traded Darren Waller because when they got Jimmy Garoppolo, I'm like, okay, well, Darren Waller is going to be a huge part of this offense, right? Garoppolo doesn't throw the ball deep down the field. It's not his game. He doesn't throw the ball deep outside the numbers. It's not what he does. I wonder how this is going to play out with Devante Adams this year, because Adams is a guy who obviously can do everything in the passing game, but he's somebody who you can stretch the field with Devante Adams. I don't know if they can do that with Garoppolo. And so I just wonder if it's going to be one of these things where they're down like 17 to 3 a lot. And now it's like, okay, Jimmy, you got to throw it. That offensive line is question marks. The coach is a question mark. And if you're the Raiders, let's just say I'm right. And this season goes off the rails and you're 2-8 after 10 games. I think you're compelled to try to win as a coaching staff in the front office because you may not be there next year if you don't win games. At the same point, Caleb Williams is a hell of a prize at the end of the rainbow and Drake Mays pretty damn good himself. Now, I do think the Cardinals are in the pole position by a mile here. But remember that year a couple, what was it, three seasons ago when Trevor Lawrence was going to come out of college and the Jets were something like 0-13 and everybody was like, oh, the Jets, it's all lining up. And then they went and they beat the Rams in LA and then they won another game next week. And Jacksonville was like, that's cool. We'll lose out and took Trevor Lawrence. I'm just very curious to see how this all plays out with the Raiders. I don't think they're going to be a two-win bad or anything, but I could see him being four wins bad. And I think that might be right up towards the top of the draft. Matt, why tank for Caleb Williams when you have Aiden O'Connell, the pride from Purdue, the rookies who spread out the show? He has been great. He has been great. The preseason, fourth rounder out of Purdue. You're right, man. You're right. He's been a good surprise. But yeah, you're right. If you're in the mix for Jake May and Caleb Williams, you got to go for that. But for me, it's kind of like what you said about Josh McDowell, right? Like he was terrible as a head coach with the Broncos. He traded Jay Cutler. We all know the saga that went down over there and he's been a very good OC, but then you're also kind of helping out with Tom Brady there. How much are you doing there? So I think part of it was kind of like maybe which could be, could be a problem. The stubborn phase were like, let me just do it my way. Let me go down swinging my way. And sometimes if that vision comes together and you believe in it with guys like Jacoby Myers and Jimmy G are saying, you know what, we've done this in new England. It works. Maybe that kind of rubs off. And when you're like a franchise with the Raiders who were not used to winning, maybe they buy into that. I don't know if it's against cliches in the summer. And I was with you like a month ago. We're like, okay, they're going to be one of these teams are going to be pretty terrible. And they could tank and just watching how, you know, when you're very top heavy, you have some dues and Max Crosby, Devante Adams, Josh Jacobs, like some of the best players at the position. Sometimes that's enough to at least be in the race. I'm not saying they're gonna be a wildcard team. I can't find the place for them. I wanted to believe me when Mitch told us to make the picks for next week. And I'm like, I can't do it. I cannot, but seven or eight. And again, if you play this type of football where you're all about the rushing attack and you want to control the clock, if you fall behind good point by you, it's going to be a problem. And you can't rely on that every single week, but sometimes it does fall your way. So I'm not saying they're going to be really good or really bad. I just feel like they might be a seven win team somewhere around that line. Totally fair. I think one more team I wanted to get to before I wrap and so everybody listening to this next week, we come back, preseason will be over. So we can go like full season preview. We can talk about a lot of our stuff and see like where we fall on who's going to make the playoffs, stuff like that. And then the following week, we'll be previewing week one. I'm going to be in Kansas City for the Chiefs Lions game. Can't wait to see that. Chiefs will be raising their banner second in four years.

"Robert in Texas, let's take his phone call. What's up, Robert? Hello, rich. Long time listener first time caller. Thank you. Just calling from here listening to Florida to talk about the Patriots and Mac Jones going through their issues. Yes. And we have Aaron Rodgers in the jets over there at the fall. And I was just wondering what are the Patriots decide to go for it and just end up trading for Aaron Rodgers just to stick it to the judge? No. Wow, Robert, you just driving around Texas full of spite. Let me call the rich eisen show and speak something into existence that's never going to happen. Is that basically what you said today, Robert? Is what you want to do? Something like that. You like that, Chris? You're making Chris's day. I'll be honest with you. Robert, buddy, who became just a stick to the jets. I think this is a great idea. Okay. So I don't really care. That's my guy. He's touching all the bases here on the program. All right, Robert. We're in Texas, you calling it from full of spite. Okay. Very good. I appreciate the call. You hang on. You be well. There you go. Go back through and football season. I can get. That'll never happen. 'cause Rogers didn't announce his intention to play for the Patriots. So? Sorry, folks. Intentions change. No, they don't. Why would they change? Do you know why his intention wouldn't change? Because he doesn't want to play for the Patriots and you know why he wants to play for the jets over the Patriots? Why is that? Because it's a better chance for him to win his Super Bowl. Really? Deny it. You can sit here and say, I don't know about that. It's a better chance for him to win a Super Bowl, and he wants to eat the offensive coordinator. He likes his there? The weapons, the Jets have are far better than the weapons that the Patriots have. It's your opinion. You would argue with that opinion. For real. Like for real. Like put aside. I've been doing this. No, we're not doing the thing. We're doing we're legitimate. Nobody wants to do the thing. This is legitimately talking. One team one team one team said, you know what? We're going to lose a Kobe Myers. The other team has 20 years of winning. Now you sound like now you sound like Bill. You complained about that the other day with Bill. Tell patriots fans why they should not. We don't have to Rogers. Go down some sort of a wormhole. Why should the Patriots have any sort of optimism? Well, the last 25 years and you come back and you're like, well, that's the past. But now here you're laying the pass at the table when I'm saying presently. A team that swapped out swapped out Jacoby Myers for juju Smith Schuster. That's the same. Right? Well, I'm talking about who the Jets have. They got Alan lazard, who's got not a ring, but to go along with the offensive rookie of the year who won that. Potentially because the running back got hurt, they've got sauce gardener. They've got, I mean, honestly, who's roster would you take? It's not playing offense? Who's roster would you take? To win. If you're somebody who's 39, wants to win. Who is positioned? Would you want to go work for bob? Bill O'Brien, you want to go, you want to go dial up plays with BOB? Sounds better, better ownership, better coach. Got it. What else? Better fan base? Less toxic. I better run better running backs, better tight end. Okay. All right, that's your opinion. I have my opinion. I think everybody watching and listening in, understands what's happening here right now. The pats are getting there, Rogers. Okay. Look at this. From Texas strong driving around McAllen. You know what I'm going to do? And I'm going to lob it all the way into el segundo, California. We start something. The hell going on? You know how this goes? Because it never works out for the jets, and it always works out for us. Does it last three years? Oh, this is going to go. Last three years, you've wound up in the same situation. I forgot all those jets playoff wins the last couple seasons. We haven't had. We haven't had one in 12 years. There you go. 12 years. Three super bowls since then. I understand. All right. You sound like Bill, you had a problem with Bill saying the reason why you should know the Rogers. Now I do. I could have some fun. That would be I would claim so. Josh Allen and Dwyane Wade talking to SVP right now. Oh yeah. They're both at Augusta. Everybody's there. Is Shane Lowry still leading right now, hovland's leading, right? 6 under 6 under. And still has the par 5s coming. Sniffing the wire to water. She shoots a 65 today. Look out. Wow. Still got the ring. Fun. Fun stuff. Jim ersay has said, according to I mean, he said it at the owner's meeting. Zack key for our friend who works for the athletic is saying he wants to draft a quarterback fourth overall. Quote, it seems like there's going to be a great prospect there, he said of the fourth pick and we just have to make sure you know that he fits Shane's model, his new head coach, and really what he's looking for. And so steichen was the quarterback's coach when Justin Herbert was a rookie, and then we all know he was attached to the hippocampal and hertz last couple of years, and we all know what happened. Last couple of years, complete blossoming complete bloom. And we also understand what's happened in the last couple of years for the Indianapolis Colts is they went the cocoon route. What they did was they took these stones of and threw him into the pool. And hoped that the old people would be young again. That didn't happen. Philip Rivers,

"Right now on CBS, there's the Einstein Verizon commercial every time I think I'm out. They're still doing it. And I'm telling you, I bet you NCAA action, you're going to see it a lot. As a matter of fact, as a matter of fact, as he made that drop, it matched directly. The fist pump brilliant moment. That freaked me out. We need a punch up. I can't love that anymore. I know. What's up, what's up? It's something new and fresh for the tornado for the masters. I don't know man. If the number that I heard, they paid Paul Giamatti to dress as Scrooge and Einstein is accurate. They're going to use the hell out of these commercials. It's got to get paid every time. No, no. Those days are over. It's a one shot. It's one shot. One shot. There's no such thing as commercial. My friend bought a Corvette with doing that. One shot. No, it's good to know. I'm a Cheerios commercial. The offensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs have shown up to the parade in t-shirts. Oh yeah, these are great. Put them up zero sacks. Wow. I agreed Humphrey well done, sir. I'm telling you. In green too. I can't tell you. It's green. Are they just going to repurpose these for Oregon after? What did I tell you? The stat that told the story for Super Bowl 57 that few people are talking about. They got it. Zero sacks, mahomes sitting duck there, huh? He did move around pretty well. He's coming around. Come around. Come around. Come on. You gamblers are all out of your house. It's all fixed. It's all like, oh, that's what mahomes is. He's such a wake-up call, pal. Thank you. Isaiah Pacheco got off the bus and it's just dancing down the street. Good for him. As he should. He's got the trophy. Good for him. This is great. Everybody forgets. Same round as Brock purdy. He wasn't the last pick in the draft, but Isaiah Pacheco 7th round pick. Let's use him. Let's get him scoring in the Super Bowl. That's it. That's it. Zero sacks. Of Patrick Mahomes. Against the team that had 78 sacks entering the sea entering the Super Bowl on the entire season, they needed 5 sacks to be the all time single season sack leader in the history of the NFL over to pass the 85 bears in the way to passing the 84 bears. That's how good the eagles were and they didn't sack mahomes once in the two sacks that hurts had was when he ran out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage. Nobody was just generally sitting in a pocket and got put down on his ass because these quarterbacks are so damn good. And the lines were good too, man. Some of the best line play you'll see some of the best quarterback play you will see some of the best receiving play you will see what a high level these two teams play that in the highest level sporting event, America puts on its stage and exports. Unbelievable. Zero sacks well done for them. Zero sacks. You got anything else for me over there? Anything else in the chamber? I do real quick. But you know who we should be giving some props to those other people aren't jerick McKinnon, man. When he went, he could have taken that ball into the end zone and think about it. That's what you your whole life. He's in the backyard. He's in the street. I'm scoring a touchdown in the Super Bowl. And yet he remembered this training and he took the ball and he slid down short of the goal line to ensure glory for everybody else. So that's commendable, man, because you could have extra name in the history, which you still did. But, man, that's true. I don't know. I respect that. Two minute drive. If you'd run that in the end zone, it would have reversed the entire advantage they got from the holding penalty. It would have flushed their advantage right down the toilet. And again, when we get a member of the chief's honor, one of my coaches staff on how did that get communicated? And you had to basically say, we're not scoring, staying balanced, don't score. Get down. Well, what I read is the chiefs they call that church mode. So they're trained on that. They know in that situation when the clocks running down to get down. So he just remembered what they practiced and he did it, but still that had to be so hard, rich. So the you're right there. So the order of events, corn dog, church mode. That's a good corn dog. Let's go corn dog ish on the other side. Church mom. None of it would have happened if it wasn't my idea in the script session to get that defensive flag thrown for all the good point. You're welcome. Sorry, Philly. My idea was also my idea to get Nate Peterman in on week 15, Peter mayor. I don't want to brag about where my fingerprints were, but the whole idea was just like, you know what? You don't want to sound like a bracket. You want to take too much credit. Let's get you Kobe Myers throwing that thing back and get it intercepted by a member of the Chandler. The Raiders. It's got to be Chandler Jones because the other guy's name is Mac Jones. That was my little twist. You know, I only know one speed. So they all know. They send a script to you, the punch it up is what you're saying. Well, it's sometimes it's my ideas. It's a collaborative effort. I don't want to get too deep in the weeds. It makes sense. We're out of time. Lauren sapp in studio, Ken Marino and studio. You watching on the Roku channel and listening. See a Thursday.

"You hear about a pitcher or somebody who, the front shoulder flies open. You know, all of a sudden neither you pull the ball or the ball sails on you. And I thought the ball sailed on him a lot in this game. That's something that can be corrected, but you worry about it, how it shows up under pressure. I thought he, you know, for this game, I thought I thought he was fine largely that they could have won with this version of Mac, but that's only if they get good defense. If they don't get good defense, then you need super Mac. And to me, that's just unrealistic as a rookie. Sure. But what about the guys around him as well? As you said, off off the mark on characteristically so missing a ton of throws. But are you at any point going to start getting a little bit worried that like, okay, we're not getting enough out of these guys. Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of them are working. But when you're just seeing ordinary, what comes how many times every patriots team I feel like it's gotten blown up at some point or another during the year. They don't have enough guys who can make plays when plays need to happen. A lot of times. Yeah. And I think a constant criticism of mine and it continues and it will continue into the off season and you'll hear me talking about it, leading up to the draft and free agency. They need they need a real deal slot receiver. That can get open very quickly against any type of coverage on third down where Mac Jones is like, all right, I got that guy. And if you had that guy opposite hunter Henry, now all of a sudden you're cooking with gas inside. Kobe Myers love them, but he's not a slot receiver. He's just, you know, he's a number three or four guy you throw in and three or four wide receiver sets. That, you know, if attention is being divided sort of to another asset like a good receiver, then he pops over the first place. They're lucky to have had him the last couple of years because he's been relatively reliable, but they still need an upgrade. Both things can be. Yeah. And I think, you know, look, there weren't that talented to begin with, you know, they missed agile or in this game. I think he would have sort of made the bills respect the passing game a little bit more. I think Kendrick Bourne. He was a complete non factor in this game. COVID must have been an issue for him all week. And then you also have to talk about that, you know, the weather conditions that I was worried coming in when I saw 11 mile an hour winds, gusts up to 30..

"Cowboy sat. You're super happy. Come on. I barely get any of these over you the however many years. How many sundays have i had over. You got over you three and fourteen years imia break. This is at. What point did you realize that this game had to come down to the fourth quarter and brady driving for a go ahead. Something and then either us not getting the bar having one last chance and e couldn't have scripted this i. I'm kind of ab- drained i'm groggy. I'm sad i had gone. It's a game of giving motion and the red sox yankees this tuesday. I'm too old for the sale. I know all this could have been so great had the red sox blown into the nationals went l. a. game and podcasts would have been for me but now i am the other way. I'm like how did this come down. The suck up versus bella check over suck up versus folk or whatever it is that nobody wanted bat right. I thought the game socking except for the fact that it was closed in in the fourth quarter like. That's i don't know. It was all ugly including steve bell checks tongue. What the hell is that on these. See that anymore. A lot of people wondering what's going on. I was debating check sweats. Let's start with the big decision. Brady i bel- check fourth and three chances. Nineteen th straight completions in the fourth quarter in the second half at some point two bucks have lost every defensive back they have. It seems like just guys disappearing. They're out there. Getting carried off and richard sherman. Who was named a team in week. One he's out there Now he's like they're number one d back by the because everyone else has gone and they get a pass batted down all sudden. Here comes nick folk to kick a fifty six yard field goal in the rain and it's the classic thing of. Why are we doing the thing that the other teams fans are doing backflips that you're doing this. What are the odds of fifty six yard. Field goal in the rain over. Hardaway rain has been announcer. Said it was the hardest. It's been raining all night. Like a natural guy over mack jones. Who's been moving the ball. Five ten yards per pass for you know a half three quarters. Not only that flag. Happy refs you know. Even if he throws it up and something happens you get lucky on that. Yeah that was not. I'll tell you why did it though because you needed more than the visual. You needed that going. That has to ring in your head for the next whenever you sleep. Six seven eight hours tonight. It's not enough that you saw what you saw. You have to hear to come i. This is fine. You know. Tom brady stuck it up. Your kieser you get to feel like everybody else has in the league. It's just how it is sorry you. Did you think. Tom brady played well in that game. 'cause i didn't i didn't i thought they both stock but i also thought like a we being rocked here. What is this is this brady. No like boxers. They can get the knockout anytime they to know. I guy you know what. He's my hero growing up so you know. Oh you carry them to a decision. I had a little of that feeling early on because it didn't feel like he went to the went for an also like i don't know even i know jones was hurt. The deepak was hurt. But that's not brady's way he'd like He likes to dyson slash you with a first down there. I was surprising when endzone. Twice err toward zandt. Yeah he went really. Low percentage antonio brown passes one of them seemed like it was there and he threw it to the wrong show or branded and turn the right away and then the other one. It would have been an unbelievable catch. But you're right. All you need is a first down. You seem to move the chains. We should never have the ball back the patriots and that situation the way it set up they were moving the ball. He was able to get to where he wanted to go to me like big picture with this patriot season. They've had multiple games now. Three off three losses but they had to get a stop in the fourth quarter. And they couldn't do it any of the games. Miami had to get the stop to get the ball back. Couldn't get it saint same thing. They're down eight but they needed to stop and they just couldn't get it and then today same thing they just couldn't get the stop and the bug spray able to get the field goal so that they're kind of lingering in these games like i don't know if this teams have far away they can't run the ball can't figure out what's going on that they can't run block at all but mac you know. I thought concert those a little to a bouillon about it. As as good as mac was for rookie it wasn't i've not gonna be telling my grandkids that we scored seventeen points in his senate game but he was good like they couldn't run the bought all the bucks knew we had to throw down and they were hitting the shit out of them right. I mean were you impressed. You have no dog in this race. I think he's the one shining star in this game right. I mean he did however many completions he hadn't row that the secondary was beat up. Which again we just talked about more reason to go for down there every single drive. That was another guy in the secondary out. Winfield was out and that last drive. And if i would ask you at any point during the week you're down to with the ball a minute. Fifty seven left in a time out. You would have taken that every every time right like there's nothing better than that. Both teams left it on the table. Like they get that you. Kobe myers pass. And it seems like we're gonna roll and get a touchdown but then we blow the next series and an upset for the field goal. Brady said this after the game the bucks had a ton of stuff and tie inside the thirty that they just. I can't even speak. Have you ever heard me screw or worse. I like a drunk but They missed a bunch of possibilities. It seemed like evans was open. That whole game received like brown was opened. That whole game fornet. That was the best. We've seen him look since the playoffs and they still only scored nineteen points right now with you. There was a total look. The game plan was there. It was pouring rain. Brady looked like crap. You couldn't ask for anything more. Your quarterback couldn't be hotter. I guess you got to jones a lot like you said. That's the only real advantage. I think the bucks ad for the whole game they can get to your guy but Otherwise it was right there for bella check and i was thinking like where does this rank if you asked him and he had to answer honestly no one will ever ask him this but and if they did he wouldn't give you he wouldn't be straight with you but where did this rank in terms of needing this game wanting.

"Caller said not get it to guys that we're open? Just didn't read the field. Yeah, absolutely covered sex in this one. Late in the game there. The game. Oh, sorry. No, it's okay. I thought earlier, I thought I just didn't have time. And sometimes things have to be timed up like, you know, they might have a deep developing route where back to some 7 step drop and hold it a bit longer and I just think they couldn't get to really anything for like, you know, two and a half quarters in this game. It was just the offensive line could not hold up. I was fearful of this. The more I watch the saints this week, I thought coming into this game, I did not think that the Patriots were going to cover the spread, I thought that the saints speed on defense like they might not be big upfront, but they were really fast and they know how to crease gaps against the run and the pass and unfortunately all of that was a concern today. Yeah, Greg, just again, the more I look at this game, do you think it was a look ahead at all? Do you think the Patriots are fully prepared and obviously Sean Payton coming off a loss? It looked like he definitely stuck to the game plan today and closed it out with Taysom Hill running the football. Yeah, I thought how about Sean Payton did what he always does and shout out to Pete Carmichael from medway. There are offensive coordinator and a BC guy. I thought they had a great plan. And look, I think it's easier for guys like Peyton and Carmichael to game plan against the Patriots because they've been around so long and you know, the last time they hear we're here, the show ponies game, they put up a lot of points. It should have won that game. The Patriots stole that game. So I think they have a good beat on what to do against the Patriots. You know, I just think that, you know, you asked about the look ahead factor. Joe, I couldn't help but think of that during the game. I mean, when you're when you're an apt in all three phases like that, something something fundamental was wrong this week. And we all didn't think that it was going to be an issue. And, you know, Matt castle, I saw a road up column for NBC sports Boston talking about how look ahead no way not under Bill Belichick and you know I don't know. They looked they were way too off for this just to be a bad day at the office. It seems like they were distracted. Maybe Belichick doesn't have the touch in terms of that, like he does it. And again, Jim talked about this earlier. You know, and we'll keep bringing it up. The amount of new guys that you bring in, you change the equation on everything, and it takes them time to get acclimated to the team and really become a team and join their mindset. And I just think the new guys on this team from mills and Smith and hunter Henry and God chow and all those guys, I think they are just a ways away from being anything close to true patriots. So I don't know why anybody should expect any different. I'll give you, I'll give you another one that blew my mind. So, you know, everyone's piling on Smith, rightfully so. Hunter Henry, that fourth and one. That false start where he sprinted down the field Greg. It's like, you gotta be kidding me. That's a guy that doesn't get it. And I wasn't even close. I mean, if that was, that would be typical if it was like the jets against the Patriots where you just sit there and you just start laughing, like what a bunch of idiots. And the idiots were the Patriots today. Alan and California on the offensive line and how poorest that's been. Go ahead, Alan. Have you guys noticed how much the red zone offensive line mostly stinks since James Devlin went out? Number one, and that was like three years ago. The other thing is they are 7 and 16 counting next week's loss. They have 7 16 not counting the jets. Since December 1st of 2019 yeah, I went over to some of those numbers earlier here on the postgame show Alan. It's not great. Thankfully, you still have the jets in your division. But yeah, the offensive line. You know, like they've been so reliant on the fullback. They still have one in Jakob Johnson, correct me if I'm wrong here, Greg, right? Yeah, they haven't used it as much. And I think, you know, signing the two tight ends change the equation. You don't sign too tight ends for 12 and a half $1 million each and take them off the field a majority of a game for James Devlin or any other fullback. So the Patriots, you know, we're going to go in this direction. I don't think the full backs were going to be a big factor. Yeah, I mean, you're not going to get me to say that not having James dead love Devlin was the beginning of the end for this offense. I think they just need better players and they need to play better and I think that's most of the issue. A two positives from today obviously Kendrick Bourne got going, and he got the touch down there and Kobe Myers continues to get open. I think he's the only guy that really can get open at this point. We're looking ahead a little bit here. Is Nikhil Harry the next option? And I know Josh Gordon's out there would they ever step that one again? I can't see them going back to the Gordon well. I mean he was he wasn't that good in the NFL when the last time we saw him with the Seahawks, you know, he's not the same guy physically. He's so inconsistent, you know, I can't see the Patriots burning a Ross for spot with him. I think, look, it's three games in. I think they feel fine about the guys that they sign and put money towards Nikhil Harry. This is like the call from Felder masks. You think, you know, Nikhil Harry coming back and bring the default. No. No. No, no. No. Look, I want to see Nikhil out there. I still think he's a good football player. I still think he can help this team and, you know, we'll see, but I can't tell you anything more than that. Well, let's go to Connor in the car. Once thought on the Mac Jones and his performance today, go ahead, Connor. How are you doing, guys? You just want to talk a little bit about my thoughts on that, because of the game as well. Again, I think coming back from a couple weeks ago, we still look handcuffed in terms of what they're allowing him to go into, but as soon as you start to click a little bit, it just sounds like it just felt like every single time he was getting on a roll, the offensive line just screwed. It was a lone block. It was a blown, whatever it may be getting back under pressure. And at that time, he's not the type of quarterback that can roll out and make those plays or extend the play. He's got to have something like set on the line, get the ball through receivers. And they often divide is not giving him the time to do that. So it goes both ways, obviously he made some poor judgment throws out there, but there's got to be a whole 11 person turnaround to kind of get things going. Appreciate it. Thanks, Connor. So yeah, is do you think the Trent Brown will be back this week? I was surprised he didn't end a plane in this one Greg because he had practiced through the week, he even practiced the Friday before the jets game, but an active today. Yeah, I thought it was possible. Just to, you know, make sure look, this is a guy who this calf has been a problem now for at least this is now the second season and it might be three seasons with the two in Vegas because I know certainly last year he dealt with this. And it kept him. He was in and out of the lineup all season. I think that's what you want to avoid a three year the Patriots and I'm sure it didn't hurt that it was the box the next week and like, hey, let's make sure he's ready for that game and let's see if we can run the ball and keep it away from Tom and basically, you know, game plan to not getting blown out on our own turf on Sunday Night football in front of Tom Brady and Tom Brady senior in giselle and all those guys. So I'm not surprised that they waited a week. You ready for more drama this.

"Just just incredible stuff. The one against the Bloods. The throw. You'd be surprised how how we practice that throw in that catch If you look at, uh No. In pregame. He was working on that exact catch the ball coming just like that, Um, it's an amazing chemistry that they have for us to be able to step up on the on the deep ball and throw it. I don't know how far through the ball, but it was as far as he could throw it. And it was this perfect as is it could land. And of course he's there and then and then they can't even knock them down at the end of it, just for talented finish it just fantastic football player That's really fun to see. So there's Pete Carroll after his team goes Indianapolis get the 28 to 16 Victor. I love to start about Let Russ Cook because that was a big debate going back to last year, and Russell Wilson was efficient today. They only had him throw the football 23 times. It's all they needed because they were running the football a lot late. 27 carries for 140 yards on the ground as a team where the Seattle Seahawks and I thought the most impressive part we talk about Russell Wilson, We talk about the offense. Talk about the run game of Chris Carson 16 for 91 holding the Indianapolis Colts to only 16 points and keeping their rushing attack, which is one of the better, you know, trios in football when you look at the three headed attack that they have from time to time to only 113 total yards, and once Did have 23 of those 113 yards and for once in his cults debut 25 38 251 yards that have to passing touchdowns and did not have an interception. And that's something big for Carson wants to limit the turnovers. Now we did have a fumble in the game, which he did loss and that was a big problem, and what led to his downfall in Philadelphia was all the turnovers. Let's get back to the games that are going on on the gridiron right now. Our next stop is in Foxboro, and we go to Alan Siegel, who's all over the Dolphins and the Patriots. The theme that I mentioned earlier where they first series by the Dolphins. They went through the Patriots defense, very easily ending up with a touchdown by to attack a video of two yards out. Since then, the Patriots EV resisted on defense and I've had a couple of opportunities. In fact, they've had 23 and outs against the Dolphins. Just recently was. The Patriots are going to get the ball back in a second. Now. The situation with the Patriots offense is that they are Russian team They've got 13 carries for 78 yards, and David Harris has 67 Mac Jones has looked good and consistent in his debut. The game is not too big for him. 10 of 14 for 84 yards, that could be seconds ago, I could have had a touchdown to the Kobe Myers, but a great play by the Dolphins Secondary reported that attempt the only Patriots score as a Nick Folk 27 yard field goal. So which 66 to go Patriots now starting another March. It is the Dolphins leading in 73, Zach. Alan, Thanks so much, I think, sometimes for a rookie quarterback as Mac Jones makes his debut. The best throws you make are the ones you don't make. I did see a play earlier in this game, where he rolled out to the left, had nothing and just threw the ball out of the end zone, basically just throwing the ball out of bounds intentionally and that eventually did lead to the field goal that the Patriots were able to get. So 73 right now. Dolphins In Foxboro. How about this back and forth game? We know no lead is safe. When you're going up against Patrick Mahomes in the Kansas City Chiefs, there's still trailing. But now the Chiefs get their first touchdown of the season. Let's go to Darren Smith in our head. Pay right now the chief they would've cut down cut the lead down 505 yard touchdown run from quarter Patrick Mahomes that came after 12 places I've got to drive the truck almost seven minutes off. The clock is now in the hand with under four minutes left to go in the half months solid, passing the only going to incompletions out of 13. Uh, 13 passes 432 yards and they feel for the Browns has been eight of 1050 years Cleveland have began scoring will actually begin their driving on the 20 yard line and look the cheese without Frank Clark, a paramedic. You're trying to find a way to slow down or stop the brown dolphins. But Cleveland just spreading them out way too far. Hitting him hit him in the slanted hitting them, you know, hitting the running backs. And they're coming out the back field and just making chief triggering all over the place trying to tackle the right now Cleveland is on the chief side of the field marching down Look at extended Lee from five. As a 15 to 10 with 3.5 left to go in the half. Darren Thanks so much and a balanced attack. So far, Mayfield, now up to 13 passing attempts has 11 completions and the Browns have only run the football 10 times in this game there 15 points, So it's working by a score of 15 to 10 but usually expect Cleveland to run the football a little bit more. And as Darren did mention no Frank Clark today. No Tyrone Matthew today, the honey Badger For Kansas City and the Browns are without Odell Beckham. What an unbelievable touchdown catch. This was in the Saints game in Jacksonville between the Packers and the Saints. Brian Scheibel will tell us about it right now. Yes, You're right. And Joanne Johnson with that patch in the back of the end zone. Jamis Winston, under under pressure is 1/4 and one from the one yard line. Just kind of flung it out there, and Johnson was able to come down with them, You know? Johnson dispute players earlier is the one who was able to move the chains on 1/4 and seven of the Saints won from from the Packers 40 yard line, So You know, just a moment ago, Aaron Rodgers connects with the items to move the ball down there 21 yard line, only two seconds to go as it looks like backwards. Well, we'll try to set up or feel gold and so forth. ST. Three possessions, three touchdowns Jamis Winston, nine, and 12 65 yards with two touchdowns passing album to mark up the early in touchdown for three yards out. So two seconds to go. I'm going to see just what happened here with the Packers, but they Are going to go into halftime at the moment down 17 Nothing. Brian. Thanks so much. And as we were just talking about Cleveland..

Frank Clark David Harris Patrick Mahomes Brian Scheibel Odell Beckham Aaron Rodgers Joanne Johnson Russell Wilson Pete Carroll Chris Carson Darren Smith Jamis Winston Alan Siegel Johnson 15 points 20 yard Carson 140 yards Seattle Seahawks 113 yards

"Limited nature is just part of resting a veteran. Who doesn't need to do this coming off of the the acl But it's also possible that he's just not one hundred percent yet and he was drafted and he's got the name recognition where a lot of people are gonna be playing him And i think that there are probably other options. I'd rather play corey. Davis for instance or or juju What about when you go. Tear down a tear down like marvin jones. Would you play. Marvin jones over odell beckham. I think this is one of the nuances of fantasy. So i have to like. I had mike evans last night. Okay my opponent. Had tom brady. So you need this ring-fence. I'm swinging for the fences with beckham. Because i don't wanna play. Somebody is going to be potentially a middle of the road. I'm gonna play somebody in a matter where they're going to need to score a lot and hope that somehow some way you catch a couple of touchdown passes and beckham breaks along play so it is content. It's contextual. that's what these decisions are and it's it's just one player but he is a superstar. As of an hour ago tyronn matthew was still in the covert protocol so he had to know he may be out this weekend. Yeah they were chiefs. Were number two in the nfl against fantasy wide receivers last year so it was not a great match for them. The only twenty five combined points across all the wide receivers per game that they played so clyde. Chubb you're playing them your draft them to play 'em mike love's kareem hunt this week start of the week probably because they are not favored and they're going to need some help against that pass rush exactly. Why and then taibbi killed. Yeah you're gonna play him. What about travis kelsey kelsey. I'm thinking about. Yeah so it just depends on what your options are. Please play him mccall hartman. He's a desperation play. In this game year they him and robinson will both be other secondary options for patrick mahomes when he can't pass it to his primaries. Yeah i mean obviously last year. We got the sammy watkins. Week one game. That surprised everybody So that could happen. But i feel like there are so many fliers i would rather take a shot on like like i would. I would rather put henry rugs in my lineup than a than a michael harmon. Now jarvis landry is not a name that i think was uttered more than two times during the off season on this podcast for because you say three times i wished i'd party jarvis Blessing he he was not a good fantasy football season for him last year. However in that. Stretch of games where baker mayfield was solid at the end of the season where it looked like the stefanski offense was clicking in for the passing game for him. Nine odell beckham was was long. Gone with the acl injury. But you had three out of four weeks where he was a top fifteen option. Are we overlooking jarvis. Landry as someone who could be a wide receiver three. It's really to me. It is entirely about odell beckham. i mean that was the end of the year. Odell beckham was gone and really you throughout his receiver twenty-five finish but basically at the end of the year when he played he only had one bad game. So i think jarvis's okay like tyler boyd type in a pr. He's just not a field structure. Not a touchdown guy so In this matchup. It's okay. But i i would rather look elsewhere. I like hooper. Okay thank you going to get a ton of targets in this game interesting Much like your reasoning for cream on hooper's going to be very helpful against the pass rush getting the ball out quick chiefs were really bad sightings last year and i think whoever is going to be more integrated into the offense this season she he could be hooper my concern for austin. Hooper is that even though he's i the contract and everything is there. This is another this is adult schultz. Blake darwin this is irv smith and kyle rudolph that harrison bryant who has a tight on the cleveland browns. He's a good player too. And i think that they could just make each other irrelevant. The miami dolphins traveled in new england to take on the patriots. Boy that's over under draftkings hesitant forty forty three and a half patriots minus three at home. I do like the patriots to win this game myself. I didn't realize that they were favored by three thought. It'd be a little bit closer but you know we're gonna see mack jones versus too. I mean it's kind of yeah. That's fascinating couple of young quarterbacks. I am absolutely and then But neither of them are really fantasy options this week. When you think about this matchup let's start a wide receiver for a second with what's happening with nelson lor with the factory. Kobe myers was so targeted in the pre season. Are you willing to play him in this game. The low over under obviously the dolphins have have a good defense but math jones. Kind of going to breathe. Maybe a something into this passing game. New england yeah. I think jacoby myers implies especially if it's a pr league. I hate having to give that dumb caveat all the time. But that's jacoby myers should be a an eight plus target Type of feller every single week and that's gonna turn into what five for five for fifty five or seventy sometimes and that's that's a decent wide receiver three or flex play especially with galore being entering the weekend. Banged up jason. You like johnny smith this week any any hesitation with henry being active and we finally get to see them together. Well it was Obviously it's better for john smith fantasy wise to have hunter henry out of the way but when i was talking to some people out of the boston area That are really plugged in on the team They they believe office is gonna run through jani which was surprising to me. with nelson ag laura out. I do think john who's going to be utilized a lot. I think he is a fine weekly. Play if you are struggling and you you. Don't you know you waited on tight end and you want to play the match ups I think you could do okay with johnny win this game but to be honest i look at this matchup and i am really not wanting to start pass catcher from either side the low over or under the two great. Defenses the to unproven quarterbacks. I think this is going to be a you know. Damian harris sure applaud him in miles. Gaskin sure i'll plug him in I don't know that i want any pass catcher. Ceiling feels yeah. It's it's like what mike said he could get. You know six seventy that takes that the week short. That's not bad. He didn't he helped you a little bit. But i just feel like. I feel like that's too close to the city's not good number close to close to the ceiling is what i'm saying where i don't i don't know that he has six for seven anna touchdown. Well now you're talking. You have my interesting all right. What about gets sticky i. Vince is great. And i'm going to be at home with something to prove. I'm playing back only because i could not pick up.

odell beckham Marvin jones tyronn matthew beckham hooper travis kelsey kelsey mccall hartman patrick mahomes sammy watkins henry rugs michael harmon jarvis landry jarvis Blessing baker mayfield stefanski mike evans Odell beckham jacoby myers jarvis tyler boyd

"Because, you know, if they throw that first zero blitz at him and he reads it, he makes the check and he just boom quick pass. Kobe Myers. It's like, okay, here we go. Buckle up, right? He struggles with it. I'm not gonna be alarmed. I know I'm gonna get, you know, some crap for this saying, oh, no matter what Mac Jones does. You know, we can't lose. You know, if he screws up early, it's a learning experience. I think there's I said this from the beginning. There's going to be growing pains when you start a rookie quarterback. So I want to see how he reacts that first blitz. That's what I really want to see. Because if he starts figuring those out right away, oh boy, here we go. So that's what I'm looking forward to. That was one thing that stood out throughout all the training camp and the preseason was how pro ready he was at setting things up pre snap before the ball snapped at the line of scrimmage, right? And you look at the way that he made checks the way that he made sure the protection and got the mic point set. And all those types of things were next level for a quarterback with his experience. And I think that that is a little bit of a testament to what he was working with at Alabama because that Steve sarkisian scheme, what did Nick Saban has evolved that offense into in recent years has really taken on a much more pro style conceptually the way that they run their passing game is a lot more pro style now. And they are putting a lot on the quarterbacks to make those adjustments pre snap. So don't they high tower was talking about Mac today. And I thought what was interesting is that he pointed out the same thing for him in a lot of ways coming from Alabama just how similar those two programs are from Nick Saban to Bill Belichick to Alabama the Patriots that even though Mac Jones is a rookie, it almost feels like he's not a rookie in some ways just because he's so used to being coached this way. He's so used to being held to this standard to be putting in all this extra work and all this kind of stuff just comes second nature to him because this is what he was doing for four years at Alabama. Yeah, I mean, it's a different kind of program over there and we are demon aristoc about it today. We heard Dante Hightower talk about it today. Different different kind of program. They just do things differently. They operate at a level the most college teams that operate at. And that's something after factor and here's where people.

"N'keal. Harry is like the first three we know. Has physical. God given Talent, right? Like we know that nikhil. Harry is a talented football player. It just hasn't all clicked for him at the NFL level. Christian Wilkerson is the definition of the guy that we talked about this time of year, right? He's more, he's Harris. He's, you know, he's not playing right. I can't think of another example. So we keep on, I can't think what you Kobe, Myers. Maybe he is, more Jacoby ends up. We we can't we'll have to wait, I guess off of that. I guess my point is and this is somewhat of a disingenuous argument, but I'm going to make it anyway. If the Patriots signed some first former first-round pack or traded for some, former First Choice in paint code, fallen off with the semen was brought in. It was doing what nikhil's doing we'd be talking about. All right like yeah, can you do it? Like we'd be questioning it, we'd be questioning at a time. And obviously, that's not what they did and he was already here, but you talk about how can you be so into Christian? Wilkerson, when all he's really shown, you is two good weeks of Camp. I could ask you the same about. N'keal Harry. Would you be so into n'keal Harry? When all he's really shown. You is two good weeks of Camp. I'm not saying cut and kill Harry. I'm not saying he's a bad player Day by no means should let him go for nothing. Sure. It's if it's caught him or keep him, you keep them. And you figure something else out. I I do think he's a good player. I'm just saying what this team does. Historically what it looks like they are trying to do with the roster. You can get, you can keep Wilkerson who this team clearly likes and then you can get something for n'keal Harry and that's the other thing that's lost in this. They don't have a ton of early day. Three picks next year cuz they've moved them in various trades and they liked those pics. N'keal Harry plays. Like this in the preseason, you, you can probably get a top 150 pic form. You might be able to trade into a context for a fourth-round pick. I think you could certainly try to a bad team for a fifth-round pick. So that's the other part of the equation. Is we know next year's draft is absolutely loaded, right? We thought this year teams are hoarding pics in that draft, right? You're not losing to kill area for nothing. You're not totally giving up on the investment. You're not getting the return for the investment that you wanted, but God, You, you know, you're not losing. I mean, you don't think somebody said Wilkerson, can be stuck to the practice squad. I don't know about that either. I mean, it's a person you're losing money, right. It depends on how much they show them off in the preseason or not, because if you put them up against third, and fourth quarters in preseason games, he's he's, he's beating guys like Jalen Mills JC Jackson and practice a little bit as long. Like, I don't know if that's going to happen. Now, lastly, I want to talk about Adrian Phillips cuz this has been the summer of Adrian Phillips, right? Like this is this is as good as I think anybody could ever have expected Adrian Phillips to look today..

"As a technique at the top of the route is really crisp. He's got a good job of kind of using his body using his positioning and being able to break off of Leverage and create separation at the top of the route bulb of this size and with his short area agility, but he also has a really terrible approach and how to get open and a lot of the times against the Chargers. You see guys that bracket coverage him, you know have a guy inside of him and have a guy outside of him and he just sort of understands what he's up against and he understands how to get open within that framework. You understand how to manipulate coverage and how to manipulate Defenders down the page. To get open and I need those are elements that not only bode well for just his production in terms of wherever he were to land in free agency, but in particular in the Patriots offense, that's always something that we talked about. Right? Why didn't you Kobe Myers been successful. It's because he's had he has a high football like you he understands how to get open in this routes and that's something that I think Hunter Henry does. Well also. And then he can clearly block. He's got the size of an inline site in just a great mix and match hear of Jonny Smith diverse dial off the line of scrimmage move tight end moving around the formation give them the brakes on situations to let him use as Yak abilities ball-carrying skills. You have that kind of move tight end type and then you have the traditional big-bodied between the numbers thread. Once you're dead. The Chargers occasionally would also line him up an X receiver and just let him go one-on-one against guys and use his size and his ability to box out and win contested catches just a really fun player, I think dog. Terms of just the traditional stuff that I tend does well Hunter Henry checks all those boxes and then John who can kind of be the athlete right? He can kind of be the space. And the guy in space at this scheme up and got the boss his hands. You can really think of a better complimentary one-two punch at a position and these two guys it might not be the traditional. You know, why it's not Randy Moss and Wes Welker right now. It's not the the one never and tight end but it's really it's a settlement and Gronk it's too tight ends, but I didn't get both of them do things a lot differently. And I don't think there's a ton of overlap in terms of what their thoughts are on the field. I think it's worth noting. So a couple of things we've talked about for a couple of years. Now, I think going back to the 2019 draft. They needed pass-catchers in I remember going into one of those for a Samsung the thing was they need three pass-catchers, whether it's two or three years in a tight end three receivers three tight ends, whatever they needed guys who could catch passes it never had to be at the wide receiver position. They filled that need a job. Got you know you kind of said it before they could have paid Kenny. Golladay what they paid both Hunter Henry and John who Smith now they have more options than they got a guy I think you know at first and Hunter Henry Kang see what happens with Smith who can be like a legitimate leading receiver. He's going to put up numbers, you know complimented maybe not Stephon Diggs, but any other receiver in the AFC East I think hunt country is going to be about on board with those numbers will see who Miami drafts especially around maybe touchdowns, right?.

"Play to find the guy's whole career and then he's kind of bounced around the league since the problem is that the stage couldn't pay him originally cuz they wanted to pay Michael Thomas. They couldn't pay him. Originally. They traded the Patriots dangerous weren't going to pay him cuz they don't pay anybody. So they trade him to the Rams the Rams side him to this gross contract that again. He's a good player, but he was never going to be worth that contract. So he gets trading around the league two teams who just kind of are willing to spend for a year to bolster their receiver Corps and give it a shot. Now that contracts kind of come back down to earth. It's more in line with with his worth and I can get it for next to nothing cuz the Texans are dumb. So, you know go get them. I think he'd be a great fit. If you put put speed on one side in terms of Brandin Cooks. If you put size on the other in terms of Corey Davis you go out you get one of those slots High performers in the draft. You have to Kobe Myers is kind of a wild card who can move between all three roles and then you figure out the tight end that's like a pretty good offense. Yeah, you know, I mean just have to figure out the quarterback but I you know, you have all the pieces that's at pass-catcher where you have a pretty decent offense there. Yeah. No, I really like it. And if they do go that route that maybe that does open them up to somebody more like a Jew Jew who is your life and mostly inside and be that I called in the power slot. That's kind of what that mold is like big slot. Yep Godwin, you know, those types of guys are playing seventy 80% of their snaps inside and kind of playing as almost like a detached. I tend essentially in that role. Let's talk about the tight ends though because none of these tight ends got tagged which I think was a little bit of a surprise to me because the tag number for tight ends is not very high birth. Hunter Henry and Johnny Smith. Neither one of those guys got tagged. They're both hitting the open market..

"Was definitely a down-to-earth moment. Let's get to the real stuff. You know, we're going to talk about some of the leftovers from the weekend the Senior Bowl the Matthew Stafford trade, then we're going to get into a little bit of a Super Bowl preview and I talked about Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by wanted to log Start with the Senior Bowl and just any leftover thoughts. We've talked about this a couple of times already. But any leftover thoughts from Saturday's game out. Yeah, I'll kind of just move past an actual and stuff cuz I feel like they've talked about that play and we all know he had a good week Fitzpatrick. He's the guy for me that I'm really excited about and and I know we've talked about him a little bit but we haven't talked since the game. He's the leading receiver in that game six catches 90 yards could have had a another big one you could have had like a 50-yard touchdown to but Philippe Franks missed them by about fifteen yards. He supposed to be undrafted right now. He is a consensus undrafted player and wage. I'm not saying that the Senior Bowl kind of cured all of his concerns. The biggest issue with him is consistency. He'd be a game-breaker for three games that Louisville and then disappear for three games one strong week doesn't wipe that out. I'm not saying, you know, I take him in the first round, but you know, you look at a guy like Terry McLaurin who went I think on day three right or even acknowledged Kobe Myers and there is a lot of Jacoby Myers game I think in Des Fitzpatrick in the wage. I said proven to be be difference makers and I think Dez Fitzpatrick can be that guy in this draft at some teams going to get a real treat on day three. "While the season is over Greg. Finally, we made it to the Finish Line actually think the end of the Finish Line was kind of fun the last half of football that we saw was at least productive and entertaining to watch but what can be taken away from the finale against the Jets you think? Not a whole lot but look in general. Yeah, I think you're right. I mean I thought I mean the first half off certainly there was some well not at the end of the first half but for the most part in the game, they played decent defense. They open things up a little bit more and offense in the second half the Jets were missing, you know, a lot of key regulars. It seemed like on defense when I was looking at guys who were trying to make plays and whatnot. I was like who the hell is that guy? But I thought I thought even Camp played well in the second half and the second half I had him for seven plus plays two- place first half was three four am so that was some of the best ball that cams played all season and I think you saw that on the field on television. He looked like he was having fun to me it looked like A sort of Bill Belichick's sort of parting gift game, where was you know, he did a little bit of everything in that game and he was certainly having fun, you know, some of my big takeaways from the game. I thought I thought Sony Michel played really well, especially in the second half. I think he definitely solidified himself off as far as you know, look he's he he's going to be a backup Damien Harris is sort of the number one guy in this team. But you know, it's a it's a one a one C type of thing. I would say, I'm going forward if Sony still here. I mean if they if the Patriots can get anything back for him in a trade, maybe they move him and they go with, you know, maybe a draft running back or something like that long. I thought outside one was pretty good in this game, but I thought you know outside of that some of the replacements were bit shaky. I don't know how you felt about it Ninja I thought I thought you Kobe Myers. It was another guy who solidified a spot on next year's team to me. I just think I just think he's a really good football player. I think that he he makes plays he gets open. He's really come a long way in his route-running. There were a couple of very subtle really nice routes where he's selling the route he gets he understands the concept of the offense and what I'm trying to do. I also see a lot of frustration with him on some of his deeper routes where you know, better quarterback probably sees that he's open and and gets him the ball, but I thought he came a long ways off. I'm not going to look too much into the tight ends, even though you know look Devin asiasi showed a heartbeat and that's great. I thought Chase winovich played outstanding in this game. I still think and I think this is this is a point for a larger discussion. I wonder what his role is on this team going forward and you know, I thought JC Jackson played really well wage. Cornerback and Miles Bryant did not at safety but undrafted kid..
