"kobe bryant bryant" Discussed on The Bernard Bergan Podcast

"Good morning everyone. Thanks again for for tuning. into the Bernard Berry podcasts. I will be missed if I didn't mention the Great Mr Kobe. Bryant can't and just the legacy that he carved out and he's forty one years on the planet. The husband is father as a man as a leader. He exemplified something that many of us still push to accomplish in our own lives in our own homes in our own communities one of the things that I don't want you to miss When you think of Mr Kobe Bryant is that the focus the determination the drive? It was not something that he was born with. It was something he gave himself too. So no matter where you are at in your wife life no matter what you have been currently growing through are you committed to give yourself to the things that matter most if we step back from the outside looking in we would say colby gave himself to the game of basketball. We knew when he wasn't as dialed into the game of basketball because his the ripple effects his life off the court looked like it but when he dialed in when he focused we have the legendary ideas of eighty one points. We have the legendary ideas of scoring sixty points in very last game playing in the NBA. And I believe there's always this remarkable remarkable arc in our lives and there is space for redemption there is space for rehabilitation. There is space for a remarkable marketable comeback story but more importantly a remarkable legacy and I think as we reflect on the life of Mr. Kobe Bryant Bryant to not talk legacy to not highlight the bumps along the journey and to not highlight the consistency as a man has has been father and leader would help us run away from the greatness that lies within us. When I heard the news personally of Kobe passing on Sunday? It was a little bit after my spiritual routine on Sunday and it was almost like a vortex of thoughts because here I saw this father husband leader business math and when I looked into in my own heart what I was immediately aware of was that my work was done but as of Sunday Mr Kobe. Bryant's work on on. This planet was completed and it's easy for us to put ourselves in the shoes of Creator in say too soon in things like that. But what have a whole is found is when when we say we miss someone. We're saying that we didn't take the time we had to learn all that we could from them while they were here. I think gene. Will we have in terms of Avihou archive of who Kobe's we saw him grow up in front of our lives playing the sport of basketball that took him to the world stage and if you studied his life style the Mamba mentality the training the focus on the fundamentals also. There's things that you could add to your journey to truly shift you're thinking Schiff your strategy to being the best where you're at now. Was it painful it is and it still is but the word remarkable keeps coming up as I think and process through my personal feelings in my personal emotions. I even wrote a prayer that I published on my blog to cleanse haus feeling about the process ask just truly forge ahead knowing that it was a gift to watch his journey and I should be more thankful than sad. Add having witnessed what I was gifted to witness. There is a time of morning. There is a time of healing. I love what Martin Luther King's daughter Bernice King said and she said morning. A celebrity does not equal a lack of consciousness. And sometimes the death of someone on we feel like we knew but we never actually touch triggers pain about the death of people we knew. Well we are on a brief pilgrimage. Image here reconcilation life and death love well as I reflect on what those thoughts mean the death of someone when we feel like we knew but never actually touch triggers pain about the death of people we knew well. It's so easy to focus on that Ba. Let's is focused on life. Who can you still say? I love you too that you have in called and said I love you too since the decade began. That's what I want you to focus on in this moment of mourning grieving said energy. Who can you call and say I love you too so that they hear it in their lifetime? Because if you give to that if you give that space if you give to that energy I believe there will be not just closure but a place to rebuild from something that I heard in some of mine training in self reflection that I wanNA share here and I'll close the podcast with this Kobe. Bryant said I never get board with the basics. I never get bored with the basics. I want to push on you to remember this just because something is basic basic calling someone insane. I love. You doesn't mean that it's easy just because something is basic leading doing your heart work. Being consistent instant in your personal and professional development doesn't mean that it's easy just because something is basic sticking to your morning routine stick to to your workout routine making the adjustments from the feedback. You get doesn't mean that it's easy and something else. We have to acknowledge the basics six were and if you admittedly assess your consistency around the basics. You'll realize that that doing the small things will take you way further than the seemingly bigger more public things. I bet you would rather do again Mr Kobe. Bryant said I never get bored with the basics. Want you to reflect on them this week. Think I want you to assess what the basics are in your life make a shortlist of maybe some fundamental things you need to do. Maybe it's prayer. Maybe it's again your morning in routine. You're you're consistent. Workout your nutrition your meal. Prep you're reading one book a week. Whatever the basics are for you I want you to dial those basic San put it on the calendar and for the next one hundred and twenty weeks just stick with your basics and and watch the momentum you bill and what you get to a track because you're living your life according to the principles and values that support your character? Some things are not surface and some things go deeper than contractual obligations character goes deeper burn. Contracts consistency goes deeper than contracts and true connections Brotherhood goes deeper than mere Mir contracts. I'm talking covered executing on what you told keeping your word when everyone else has violated. There's all all that stuff. You're hiding. All that inner corruption we will all come squeezing out of you see because what is done deep down on the inside and in the dark will always find its way to the surface to the bad character corrupts. Good Company choose Coven covent value character value consistency value true connections..

"In the fall of nineteen ninety eight an elderly woman known as the Cat Lady went missing. She had a very Very Distinctive Silhouette and very recognizable. When so you're walking into town a handkerchief on her hair long overcoat like somebody that lived on the street? All police could find were thirty. Thirty cats shot dead. I always knew something happened to her disadvantage like that uncover the cat lady case from CBC ABC podcasts. This is a CBC podcast Galloway. This is podcast from the January. Twenty seventh edition of the current a Toronto Raptors been attributed up. There's a twenty four second shot clock and of course Kobe Bryant wore number twenty four and I wonder if that is what is happening in in honor of him. Twenty four second shot clock expired remarkable scene yesterday at the beginning of Toronto Raptors game the Raptors in the San Antonio Spurs pay tribute to NBA Great. Kobe Bryant Bryant running down the twenty four second shot clock in honor of the number that he wore twenty four. Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash. In California yesterday eight other people including including his daughter were also killed Gomez. Kelly has written about Kobe Bryant extensively over the years and he's with me in studio now. Good morning morning. How would you describe Kobe? Bryant has a basketball go. I would say a brilliant an incredibly brilliant but complicated figure transformative I think the modern NBA. And I'm not talking about the tactics of the way they play but the way the NBA carries itself. It's dominance throughout the world is perhaps the world's most fascinating league a lot of that is down to him. Why what what did he do? There are other superstar superstar. Certainly what did he do. That was transforming. I would suggest that the thing that Ryan did that. You know it's hard not to call them Koby The thing that Kobe did that other other players couldn't do is that he brought this mercurial persona this need to attract attention on and off the court and a sort of arrogance the translated with fans in a way that mere play couldn't I think the way I put it. Today's he was social media before there was social media. He was a person that used the price us who berated his teammates who castigated his opponents who was against everyone tilted every windmill and people found that fascinating and the important important thing of course is that he could back it up. He was probably the most brilliant player of his generation fascinating. backstory grew up in a basketball family and grew up in Europe before he moved back to North America. who was Kobe? Bryant and in that context in that context Kobe Bryant was a a child that was bred for greatness whose parents had decided in his youth he would be special in some way. That wasn't necessarily basketball. But it turned out that weighs father play professionally overseas. He was home schooled and so when he arrived. Eddie arrived with this incredible cockiness and self assuredness that people really hadn't seen before he was able to display in a bunch of different languages. -solutely was multi-lingual. You know it was pointed out that he could have got a scholarship the US based on his academics not as athletics so he was someone someone who was bred for greatness and carried that through like never seemed to lose that self belief even when we know forget it wobbled at the beginning wasn't quite the player. He was initially advertised as he had to grow into that role and came in straight from high. I school that's exactly right. He was one of the last to do it. His career there are people in Canada who will remember higher low point in which he scored eighty one points against the Toronto Raptors. What did that tell you what he was capable of that he could? It was two things that happen there I to score eighty. One Point is insane in that game he took forty six shots. The Raptors total so about ten players to seventy six so we. He didn't lack for self belief. That was the thing is that most players will never score that automatics. Most players will not take that many shots and they will try passing off at some point but he just felt he was in a rhythm and kept going later. He called that he didn't talk about The physical physical need of doing it. He's talked at his feet of the imagination. That only he could imagine so big to score eighty one point in the imagination of basketball fans. And you saw this yesterday not just social media but if you talk to basketball fans of a generation of his generation he was the greatest player he mean to Tabasco ball players and fans of the current generation. Because there's Michael Jordan and there's Larry Bird and there's there's a long list of of extraordinary players but in that generation. He seemed special. Well the thing is I think McKee Kobe. Bryant had a Shakespearean Art to his careers is three. Kobe's there's the initial Kobe that wins the first championships and becomes you. Know the the the rising star in the NBA NBA. The new Michael Jordan. Probably the second best shooting garden history after Jordan. Then there is the sex assault accusation at which point his reputation is brought low understandably. Then there is kind of a dark koby period after that when he becomes quite embittered and retreats into himself and then there's that necessarily third arc mark when he becomes the elder statesman that went on for quite a while. That's the player I think. Players of this generation remember when he became a kinder gentler. Koby he he was still. You still could kick against the pricks many hot too. But he was the sort of person that took people under his wing and was more open to new players as you mentioned at the height of his success success. He's accused of sexual assault. He's arrested never tried Settled a civil suit related to this out of court. The story was that this would have destroyed his His career now if this had happened now in the era of me to in an era of heightened awareness around sexual assault That he would have never come back he did come back. And how do you rebuild his his career and his image. After the I think the thing that athletes the advantage. If that's the word we WANNA use that. Athletes athletes have in. This is that you know whereas other careers when something like this happen necessarily stop athlete. There's a huge investment in them. Their career continues because they're under contract in most cases. And so you have your way to play your way out of it fairly or unfairly and people have very strong opinions on that but because he continued to be great and because he continued to win and championships later on people simply forgave is the right word they simply move past it. How does that count the legacy that you see him leaving? It certainly complicates his legacy. I think that's where people to say to themselves At this comes down to I would think an art versus the artist question. I think thank you can appreciate the art without necessarily endorsing every single thing about the artist. There is a view that is shared that The statistics don't define his legacy gacy in some ways that he had all the numbers. But that isn't the full picture. No I think that's absolutely true because it is what we think people will remember about Kobe. Bryant a generation ration- from now is not that he was the fourth leading score of all time or the five championships are the remarkable eighteenth street. All Star Games What it is? The Person Colby. Oh be encouraged players in the NBA. I think writ large to be more themselves to be more honest In the media. But what they thought was going on on to be crueler which people are always attracted to. I mean nobody. Nobody was crueler to his teammates. Think coby Bryan people loved it and also also to see themselves as something more than basketball in sports standards. He was a renaissance man. This guy spoke Italian. He played the piano. "I don't remember saying I mean I know that would be a bad thing but like I say I just. I think it's funny comic because it actually you could have said pretty much anybody but it age decent. I mean he's doing all right. He's turned out to be one of the best actors by January and so it worked out yeah so when you were in the locker room you had the Halloween theme song playing on repeat when aside from being held creepy I assume as a way to get into some sort of alter ego or emotional that kind of it goes back to where we were talking about before getting the character known. How do you Kinda get your mind frame wrapped around to a place where nothing else matters you gotta find. Those songs wrongs that can channel that for you. Music for me wasn't just like what's popular now but it's like music that can take you to an emotional space smells like teen spirit was on my free wants to listen to because it would take me back to high school like if I'm playing a game heavy pressure game game seven of playoff series. I listen to smells like team spirit why I because he took me back to high school where math models just in your plane with friends and there was all hype in media wasn't around you dissonant Jim the slight two hundred people in the stands in high school watching you play that song. Take me back to that place and then emotionally. That's when before do you still rock songs when you gotTa do something really really important or is it now so on autopilot is sometimes jail. I'LL LISTEN TO JAY Z lot. Okay new stuff as well as reasonable. Doubt Album quite a bit when I have a chance to right now like so many things that we're big love music and was wondering I was like. Wouldn't it be funny if he's he's got like Taylor swift and his car do really do think it's important to listen to people who do great things so it's not just John Specific but it's like Taylor's been at the top the game for a very long time how and why how does she write how she get into them into space will be able to create things over and over and over. I mean it's a lot of pressure for her to follow all up a number one album with a better out. I don't care if you like if you don't like music look at what she's doing mets frightening. Sutton's unbelievable achievable to be able to pull that off over and over and over and over and so I look at things like that triumphal move as much as I can shark to like you you hear about her standing up to spotify fire. All these metallica did that in early when you and I were probably like I don't Know College High School. That's tough you think she would be like no. I'm not going to do. I'm going to do it my way casino-like from afar like I know she has to be that way. You know she's a sweet tim. She was a sweetheart to my girls before she even blew up became to Switzerland so that's why she needs me. I'm always did but you can't have that level of consistent success and not be acute. It's impossible a twenty two Taylor Taylor Swift totally at one hundred percent the Mike Myers match the Halloween theme song devoid of emotion. Is that a coincidence or is that something you know. It's one hundred percent intentional intentional. That's the trigger. The Gay man is like can you gin detach yourself from it. Can you remove your emotions from the situation emotions getting away a lot especially especially competitive situation you find that in business onto yeah business like get emotional start making decisions gonNA. Kinda sit back and look at it for what it is. Is it the right decision to make yeah everybody who lost money on Bitcoin knows that our motion Yep you're clearly dedicated to mastery and everything that you do and I think I think most people again just like people say they're obsessed with detail. They only pay lip service to that like with mastery but I was looking up Kobe Bryant Bryant work ethics stories as Google search though apparently I'm not the only one who made it and there's some trainers that are anonymous online being like yeah. He texted me at four forty five in the morning morning wanting to go work out. I worked out with them. Went back to motel room went to sleep came back in the morning. He was doing some shooting and I said Oh. What time did you finish and you were like just now and the guy was like. Did you shop seven hours early. Forties scrimmage and the Internet has a million in those. I'm wondering if you instill that same level of work ethic taking your kids or if you're like okay. Maybe that was a little bit much yeah I do but you do it by a repetition by just simply the act of working every day. You can't talking children into work and that's the one thing that drives me. Crazy is like have parents. Come up to me on the street or when I'm at Sports Academies Okay. How can I get my kid to work hard wood. Do I need to tell. Can you talk to my kid. I say listen is not something that you can talk through. Its behavioral thing you have to get up every day in the work consistently do the work my kids volleyball basketball schoolwork they work every day and that's how suet in them where it becomes a behavioral thing and it doesn't matter what they decided to give John Decides to not play basketball when she grows up it's fine but she understands the discipline that it takes to work something every single day so whether she wants to be a writer director a doctor lawyer she'll have those characteristics. Yes yes can talk for kids into working hard feel like every parent would work hard behavior in also subserving seeing you like it's not just me it's my wife to in her commitment to the children and making sure that they're on point schedule schoolwork. Everything is sharp. Everything is there every single day man and seeing me get get up and train and work hard and I used to take some time to take them to the gym when I would train and they would do things on the side or go to detract together. IB run around track. I can see it did they. Come in here and what you guys were all year here. I think the example has to be where it's at a lot of parents are do as I say not as I do. We know oh how that works out there. That works from time to time you're driving in the car and you're like okay. Just do as I say not as I do right with work habits. They got to be able to see that stuff there. Do you take singular focus everything you do. I was talking to some of the players that used to play with and they were like booed. INVITE HIM TO VEGAS DIDN'T WANNA go. We invite him to play golf didn't want to go and they're like. It's not that he was antisocial at all. It just wasn't getting closer to the goal of being the best at basketball ever and so. I'm wondering if it's business the same. Is it like no. I'm not going to do all you have to say. No allot deliberately or is different. Just don't have the time Nelson I we don't have a nanny have a baby. You don't have an anti wow never have also other couples that go out. Invite US new things we love to but we have our kids. We can't leave him. You know then it's the work stuff love. Balancing work and family is hard and I'm really committed to work and I don't compromise time with my family so the time that I'm not working. I'm spending it with them. you know and so you. Kinda lose out on some of the social things from time to time..

"Tony pike back at Lincoln financial field here in Philadelphia. The sun is outside the temple owls off to a great start. They lead at ten nothing. Thanks, very sloppy play by the Bearcats Cincinnati with an unforced fumble. I as quarterback Desmond, redder lost the ball off his leg. Is he tried to scramble and that after temple kicked a field goal on the kickoff return James Wiggins had the ball knocked out of his arms temple recovered and that led to a dubious sixty yard juggling. Touchdown catch in the back of the end zone. Randal Jones to make it ten zip. My guess is that the the balls in the field of play on this kickoff Wiggins will fare catcher. Unless it's up at like ten. Total yards nineteen for temple thirteen for Cincinnati. And the owls have attend nothing lead to go very far. Did they ten points on nineteen yards of offense? There comes the kickoff from Bob Wiggins waiting at the goal line. Bobby gets the okay approaches the ball to thirty-five swings the leg. High end over end kick it will be fair caught and Barakat offense will begin from the twenty five yard line. So after a bye. Is always worry about their teams being sloppy and flat in that. Precisely what the Bearcats have showed so far today. Yeah. I mean, if you look defensively since Cincinnati's played, okay. Dan, they've been putting two tough situations back to back quickly their defense played. Well. I don't think that pass was covered as great as you know, we've seen these corners cover. But yeah, they've gotten off to a slow start. And they don't they need overcome at here quickly first and ten Bearcats from their own twenty-five. Ritter. Fakes a handoff roles laughed in trouble sat at the nineteen yard line for a six yard loss. Brought down by outside linebacker, Isiah Graham, Mobely RPO that time. Can we lowest was the intended receiver? The only guy down there to quarrel was out there trying to block for redder. He was trying to throw the football could not get anybody open, and it was forced to eat it. Double does a great job is threatened that play out second down sixteen for the Bearcats. They light up at a pistol formation now, Warren shifts to the quarterbacks, right Ritter. Back to throw blitz cutting. Desmond steps up scrambles to the right has a man penny floats Guevara, and it is nearly intercepted turn a little bit. Too far by Desmond Ritter who got hit after releasing the football. So he had Warren going down the middle on the actually went out on the wheel route to the right side, Warren cut it back to the middle. I think that's where Ritter wanted to go initially and because he couldn't get warrants attention. He didn't feel like he had a clean throw. You continue to roll out solved Esguerra out there overthrew the Guevara. The guy came off of Michael Warren. And he almost intercepted at all dangerous. Throw. Shawn Bradley, put the hit on the quarter. It was clean hit. Third down in sixteen Cincinnati, and it feels like a quarterback draw or a screen the Bearcats at their own nineteen Ritter drops back to throw moves up in the pocket and gets pulled down behind the line of scrimmage loss of about a half yard that will be another sack for the temple almost got away. Froman, and however would not have been able to pick up the first down on longest scramble, but he certainly would have got the ball back to the first set the first chain, but Bearcats before st- upon temple going to get very good field position. Aaron do get credit for that sack. Make that Sam Franklin. I beg your pardon. Here comes the punt from James Smith bounces around the forty get scooped up off the ground by is Ahah, right. There's a penalty flag down another penalty. Flag down. Right. Still on his feet running into bearcat territory. Gets tripped up inside the Cincinnati thirty five to more penalty flags at the end of the play. There are a total of five penalty flags on the field. I believe it's only two fouls. Two of them to flags on the play for one call. Actually, I think there was two pushing the backs way back there from the fifty back to the forty than these other two are up at the Cincinnati thirty. But I think they're all going to be against the kidney. There are two thousand by the return team. Polling number twenty five. Declined illegal blocking the bat. For ten yards respond. The foul. I out. Take it back to about the twenty eight. I believe. So after back to back drive started in the red zone. Temple is going to have to try to move down the field for a change midway through the first quarter seven twenty nine laughed at his ten nothing. Temple. Bearcats have had the ball twice. I drive they picked up a first down then fumbled people in their own territory. Second drive was three and out with two sacks. Little adversity for the Cincinnati Bearcats on the road today. We'll they were able to overcome that out at UCLA. Let's see if they're able to do the same thing here today. It's a pistol formation on first and ten four temple. Russo takes the snap. It's a run to the right and Cincinnati drills the ball carrier near the line of scrimmage and the ball carrier was linebacker, Shawn. Bradley. We were told before the game the temple might try Shawn Bradley is a runner today with their leading rusher. Well, Armstead out with an ankle injury. Sure enough. They just handed it to their linebacker, Shawn Bradley, and he will they gained one yard down. Here. It is a one yard loss. Beg your pardon. That's second in Lebanon pitcher to Shawn Bradley, and he is tripped up at the line of scrimmage by Perry. Young. Excellent defense. They're back to back runs to Shawn. Bradley. It's daddy. So far doing a great job of at least bottling up the run other than the first the first play of the game, which they traditionally given up somewhere over ten yards and right now so sure passing situation here at third and no gain on that play by Bradley scoreboard is showing third and nine that like me actually, I was reading it off the scoreboard that I play. There was a one yard loss. They credited it as a one yard gain third down in eleven three receivers. Right Russo looking left if he drops back to throw his pass intercept tag forest pulls it in and the Bearcats come away with a takeaway at the temple forty yard line waiting for the officials to give the signal Wiggins on the interception. Oh, it's probably Brian. And there's the signal and they're going to talk about this one right there. Sexual I out so the temple bencher. Course, you're always going to react that way saying that he trapped the ball the Kobe Bryant trapped the ball is. He went to go for the football. It is. There was Kobe guys right there. It went through the hands of Wiggins and somehow up in the hands of Kobe Bryant Bryant on the ground forest went over the top of it and went through forests arms into the arms of Kobe Bryant. And chapel batch right? This is right in front of the temple Benjamin. They they were very adamant that he trapped the football least with the football hit hit the ground. As we are watching replays. Kobe Bryant was in position to intercept it, but Forrest doesn't know that he cuts in front of his t Bates thinking he can get the interception. The ball somehow went through his arms and Bryant behind forest wags up with the football. Bryant had a b line on it. And here it's here comes forest right across his face ball goes right through his arms and we just the replay. We just saw Dan. I it looks to me like Brian had his hands under the football. So huge way for the bear. If the interception stands the Bearcats take over at the forty one yard line of temple. And it would be the first career interception for Kobe. Bryant the sophomore for Cleveland. Almost had one in the end zone on temples opening drive. And at the moment, he's got one of the temple forty one. Yeah, I'm not making any predictions. That was a terrible pass by only. So it's going to make the point. And I certainly Don Russo we talked about him taking over after the the lawsuit. Buffalo not throwing the ball real. Well today even had a touchdown catch which was a decent throw. But. It should have been picked off by Bryant down in the end zone on a horrible throw that one not a great grow. Either. A little bit of pressure on him. And that's exactly what the Bearcats wanna do is get him out on the edge making run and making pro the ball on around. Here comes the call. After review the ruling on the field stands for style. So they did not have sufficient evidence to change the call and the Bearcats take over at the temple forty.

Bearcats Kobe Bryant Bryant Shawn Bradley Desmond Ritter Cincinnati football Temple Don Russo Cincinnati Bearcats James Wiggins Bob Wiggins Michael Warren temple Benjamin temple bencher Lincoln financial field Guevara Dan Tony pike Brian
