"A gravitas that did when with Kobe's Angie and you`re Like that on top of what I was seeing, you go through already know. So what I mean is and I'm bringing it up because. The crazy thing is you know planning for that particular thing and this was my second time back in as extra in my head like. killed it the first time I'm really have to figure out like what a minute and that was my crazy for saying yes who would say yes and compete against themselves. Do what idiot move was that. So by the time, it was a close to actually doing way before this news I was already like just trying to crack the code because everything that I had planned for. For my performance and for hosting nothing. Came through. Every artists that I reached out to every particular big idea that I had even those that said yes. Slowly dropped out and I could not figure what was happening. I was like lease universe. What do you want from me? What is happening? You asking me to step into this you asking me to be great. But I can't lock anything in why what is the matter and so I finally had moment where myself and I was like okay. Lucia. Look. Issue you you depend on anybody else you you don't need this and that net present present to be great you are you are you and you can do it. By yourself. So long your enough by yourself you're enough. So go out there and just be great and stop, and so I was like okay. All right I tried to get the the things and the things. Okay boom. So at working there, everything got all the pieces put together. A thing had an entrance how the whole thing and I was already dressed because we plan to be dressed for run through because I had maybe an hour an hour before the show starts. So that could be dressed big touch. Meditate cool. Get myself together be ready to kill. It had to be there had to be thirty minutes before the end of the show which gave me one hour and a half Max. Showtime truly I mean it was like that close and can I remember I saw them shuffling in a Cornyn did then I was like what's going on and he was like where they have to talk to us it going on you didn't even know and it was back staged. Halfway between one..

"The great fees can Griffey senior Ken Griffey junior and the Bryant's Kobe Angie on a really cold in all of his daughters but Kobe energetically had a really incredible bond and unfortunately we lost them far too early back in January but I'm looking for you guys to share some of your favorite stories with me today which I'm excited to hear from you so get out your toll free line and on Twitter D. A. on CBS he knows on Major League Baseball and the union vote fear they were originally going to have the vote on whether they were gonna accept the sixty game schedule for the players had that in front of them to vote today which was going to be put in front of them by the owners now remember that the players wanted more games and they wanted a seventy game season or more and the owners are basically sticking with the sixteen game season so there was gonna be the vote on that today but instead because of a couple of outbreaks a training facilities the players union is going to wait on a vote the fact is the fact that both of these sides have dragged their feet so dramatically and because this is been so ugly publicly and because the players said tell us where tell us when I think the players have to vote yes here that they could vote no end of the day you vote no then they would have to accept whatever it is that rob Manfred put forth but they would be open to a grievance if they vote yes they accept the schedule no grievance so I think where we're at is that the players have one of two choices we accept the sixty games but we can't file a grievance or we'll let rob Manfred decide which is probably going to be closer to fifty games but we'll have a grievance to we want to fight over those ten games I think if you're the players and you have challenged the owners tell us where telus when tell us where tell us when okay that was your marching orders that's fine now I don't think you can vote no to this and keep any credibility I'm sorry and I'm not saying that the owners are without full two year because last Sunday if you're listening I took the owner to task me listening to Tom Ricketts from the cubs build the way junior for the cardinals act as though that they are a nonprofit organization to Major League Baseball they don't make any money was so laughable so prophetic so humiliating the owners actually deserve plenty of fire as well but if you're the players in you said tell us where tell us when you just let us know will show up you take that I wrote it well now with the vote forty you can't say no now I realize that finding out safety protocols are important here how the outbreaks going on it's a serious thing we understand that but in terms of getting the deal you wanted you can't with a straight face say tell us where telus when they'd be given a vote and vote no here's the plan we're telling you where tell you when you got your full pro rated salaries okay if you vote no the players lose all credibility here I think they have to vote yes for that vote happens tomorrow Tuesday sounds like it's going to happen early this week but I got a vote yes or else all that was just nonsense eight five five two one two for CBS Twitter D. A. on CBS looking for you guys to share your favorite father son a father daughter stories in sports or just your favorite combos Tim starts off in Charlotte.

"With Theresa. Mcgrady Brian Shaw Ramona. Shelburne is joining us. I love having all of you. Guys with me t MAC. You're most closely tied. The player who was with Kobe at his rise going and dueling against him for those scoring titles. Brian Union Kobe for three decades. You met him as a ten year old when you start playing against his father back in Italy Ramona. You covered Kobe for so long. What stuck out to you in that moral. You know what I thought I knew him pretty well. I heard so many new things today. So many new things like I. I can't tell you how hard I pushed Kobe. Tell me about his relationship with Michael Jordan. I mean I would always ask him like what Michael say. What am I. And he held that back like that was between them he would say know. We're close we went to lunch. We went to but he didn't say well Michael Said And it Kinda Kinda got because it was like wow. This man had so much more to him that we didn't all get even though we all saw so much of him and inspired Michael to speak the way today and to openly cry the way did was so striking tracy when you sit there and talk about the great of rates of the game and how we go from Michael Jordan to Kobe. And of course we saw so many of today's players in the audience as well today. How do you think that those guys are going to carry for with Kobe? Legacy because remember if you're twenty five years older younger in this country you never saw Michael Jordan. Playing a bulls uniform right. It's all youtube clips A think they understand the importance of Carrying this game for moving it for and that's what. Kobe wanted To treat the game well to go out and compete at the highest level Thing we got a taste of that son at Sunday's All Star game in that fourth quarter where? I've never really seen a competitive all-star game like that and I'm sure Koby had a lot to do with that his impact on his game high hosted game. That's why co you've heard it before I mean these younger guys that are plan now call. Was There Michael Jordan? And just his approaches mentality. Everybody can relate to that. It's hard to get to that level with this man reach in how disciplined he was and I think that's why a lot of us really resonate with Kobe Bryant young players. Ask You about Kobe. Bryant. His will his work ethic You know for the most part I got to connect with Paul George. my two years in Indian- Indiana and was just in his second season and he was You know cutting corners and I used to. I knew he grew up in the La area and so and that he was You know he idolized Kobe. And so I would always just kind of interject. You know number twenty four wouldn't be cutting corners. He'd be doing this. He'd be doing that and it got his attention and then he wanted to just started asking tons of questions about his work. Ethic is footwork. And what have you and so I was able to use that as motivation. And he uses it himself. Motivation motivation to To become more serious and become a consummate pro when it came to the game and so. I think that that's the biggest thing that you know you take from that and then you look at somebody today. Made a comment about when he would go to his daughters games and practices. And what have you? He he was like a shy kid when they were actually when she was playing he sat back. It wasn't about him. It was about her. He let her have her moment. Let the team have their moment and You know and I think that's that's that's priceless as well. You know you you you take from this. His relentlessness and his disciplined to his craft. He'd carry that over into after basketball and the things that he did and then we get to see it as an example. And let's face it. He he he got to be around. Chick hearn arguably one of the best Jerry West Phil Jackson and then the multitude of players that he played with and competed against like Michael Jordan. That yourself that he got exposure to all these things from a very young man and then having a father who played in the NBA as well and Expose him to culture and life outside of the of the US in Italy and so he had all of these things that he was you know kind of bubbling inside of him. That we're now seeing how you know how it the product in the result of it and that's the Nice thing like you said you talked about things that you learned today that you didn't know before so these you know and that was because he was exposed to all these different thinks you know. He grew up in Italy and he used to tell me about that. It's just different when you grew up going to the Sistine Chapel. Right like when you're to the Vatican. Okay I think that He. He had all of this worldliness to him but it also when we came back to the states like there was a period of time where he had a really hard time fitting in and basketball became his refuge. Basketball became the area that he could dominate. And I remember something radio. S Q said which some I've been thinking about a lot lately with with with him and the legacy and the way he lived his life Should you know you? You appreciate the grind right like every day when you get up like there's the parts that you love or the hard parts the parts that you love are the ones where you don't want to be working out of doing that. It takes so much focus and intention and disciplined to do something like that and I mean. How many times have you been that passionate about something in your life even for a month? This man did that every day and not just with basketball but then he had a whole nother set of passions after basketball and he was gonNA continue living that way and I'll never forget the day after scored sixty his last game. Okay so I've been working on this story. It was ready to go all I needed to write the ending and then he just completely blessed. I'm like I'm going to have to rewrite you. I can't believe you did that. And he was like laughing at me. We call the next day and I go so take me through. Okay what did you do after the game? He goes what we flew home. We landed we wa- we eat some pizza. We WATCH THE MOVIES. Everybody went to sleep. I think I made me went to sleep around three thirty in the morning and I go. And then what and he goes. I got up early. I went to church. I gotta work at it. Went to the office and I was like wait. No damehood have slept in you. You've just got done with twenty years like if there's one day you could have slept in but I think what it is that he was so intentional about the next phase of his life and really in anything. He did the plan for that. That's where gee-gee comes into play because hadn't Gee-gee loved the game of basketball hat that passion. Kobe would have been in office being creative writing books. We never would have seen this side of Kobe. And Its just G G brought that out. She brought him back to basketball with him in the last couple years because for a while seem sparks game. We wouldn't really see him. Laker Games Win Sima Basketball Games and then all of a sudden he started popping up at these. Nba Games. And I'm like call became back to us and he said Oh. Jeez you wanted to go. So that was an amazing gift that she gave. Yes pretty incredible. Brian thank you so much for joining us. Please stay with US olive. You will hear more from Vanessa. Bryant and others remember Kobe Angie. This is the jump I've been trying to come up with.

"That take helicopter accident charred we've been yeah right it's it's gone by well the Lakers have now announced a celebration of life is what they're calling it for Kobe and his daughter it's going to be at staples center and we in just a few minutes we'll pass along the details of what you need to know if you want to be involved there will be a lot of people who want to be involved so I'm sure that there there will be and then later in the hour here and can X. in depth it's another one of our ask the mayor episodes LA mayor Eric Garcetti will be stopping by and is a lot to talk to him not only about stuff that's going on in the city but you know he's co national chair for the Joe Biden presidential campaign and you know Biden's not been doing all that well yeah this is going to some events form to yeah so the reason things to talk to the mayor Gus Eddie about how do you feel about tipping how often do you do it's where do you do it is tipping reaching a tipping up points you go a lot of places these days reserve the jar outs or they have the little tablets now just swing right around and says ten fifteen twenty percent so it's easier to tip than ever but do you think maybe we should get rid of it we'll talk about that well you know in some places now are also adding a percentage on the receipt well but only for tipping but also to give employees to cover their health care right so you have that then the tip okay I'm so once we get past that of the world might come to an end tomorrow really so don't have anyone no actually we're gonna be okay it's a near miss by a few million miles the giant rock in space but why and we see it coming sooner I'm I'll talk about that I'm glad because I was planning on washing cars this I don't know if I had does not do that now the rain check but it's an asteroid we begin with the upcoming Kobe Bryant memorial Erin lower school is a producer and co host and producer of the official Lakers podcast the NBA sponsored podcast covering the team there and what can you tell us so we can tell everybody else well I prefer having me yeah the team the Lakers release all the information about how to how fans and be a part of can go to the celebration of life you guys just mentioned it on the twenty fourth of course two twenty four is is very meaningful add I agree with you guys are going to be quite a few people I I you know kind all of LA it seems like it's going to want to be involved so there is a process for for getting registered to get they get then we get we can go over that yeah I well how how is it going to work do you do when you register because I mean there's going to be interest that outpaces how many seats there actually are that's that's almost certain absolutely and the team is is really concerned about that and and aware of that and and wants to make sure that it is definitely fans that are getting access to the to get those opposed to mail box and all of that so today through Friday Friday evening okay go to verified fan dot to get master dot com slash Kobe and Jana no purchase necessary but you register there verified fantastic came after dot com slash Kobe Angie on it going register there and then Tuesday evening the eighteen and we're gonna get notified via email if they've been verified and then also if they've been invited to participate in the public relief the ticket relief and obviously the team assume that demand going throughout it apply and if that is the case then there's going to be out of a random draw to see which people are are able to buy tickets and then once advocate once that is the case people get an email with their code and then on at ten AM on the ninety one to nineteen tickets will be available for sale yeah use the access code that you have and they're going to be very here the pricing there two hundred twenty four dollars you can get two for two hundred twenty four dollars and then also individual ticket for twenty four dollars and two cents obviously all of those numbers meeting for and to avoid people trying to retell the ticket all tickets are non transferable and if you buy a group of take it or you know yourself and get out the person that bought the tickets the purchaser of the tickets will be required to be there when all of the guests arrive what yeah yeah and you mentioned it the the ticket price the the funds are from the ticket sales go to a foundation yes correct they all go to the well it had been newly named it was the mama for Sunday for the now it has been renamed the mamba and mamba seater for Fundacion which obviously if Kobe in a family foundation that is trying to provide access to you for provide funding for that especially for kids in in under served communities it sounds at least from you going through it that they've done a pretty good job of making sure this doesn't end up happening you know in the way that we see big concerts go because you mentioned box earlier and there's all the the websites they can eat everything up right away but in this case it'll actually go to people want to worry about that right that is all about that is what the the verification process before and then also to try to prevent look you can't prevent everything and and life find the way humans have a way of of you know making things happen but that that is the that's the other reason for trying to have you know having to take it be nontransferable and then have the entire party have to go in with the purchaser of the take itself the team is really doing all that they can do to try to prevent that and really give access to as many people as possible make bands as possible to go to the event and and frankly I worked there but the team has really in the NBA at large has been as been really great about all of that with I travel with the team so in Sacramento and then in Golden State all the other can been really great about the tribute that they've done the Kobe so it's been it's been really great to see but yeah the the team really at the Lakers really have done a great job ever Larson producer co host and producer the official Lakers podcast as the NBA sponsored podcast that covers the team Erin thanks we're kind of service workers in a way aren't we you and I just chug away at the rate we perform a service I mean we got the podcasts are you looking for tips well let's let's look at this man you know bad the podcast which you can buy the way download for free on the radio dot com app onto your phone but there's this whole movement where you know service workers every time you encounter them every day they seem to be asking for a tip no Mike and I we don't get tips I work for I don't do my work for a concert for cookies all right so when Cain X. indepth continues the great "He's not GonNa let this thing pass by look and I think we could all agree that he's beloved in wrecks from the coaching standpoint. Though do you trust him from a clock management standpoint in the second half. I hate that that's attached to him but it is look at it but well when I look at it. Yeah is there one and one weakness that you know that. He's carried throughout his career. It would be clocked management. But you know what he's got Pat Mahomes now and if he has the ball late in the game with Pat Mahomes. There's no betting against him. And you know with With Andy Reid. You don't want we're going to see what it means to him when he does. There's finally win that thing and all that emotions going to pour out them. Because I know every competitor knows that unless you get the ultimate prize you come offshore it kills you at each you inside the listen we talking about the Super Bowl. Obviously his legacy. What Andy Reid is? Show me throughout this playoff visit is enough like this team has been now about twenty twice and his team did not flinch. And it's because a lot of what you're saying Lewis with fifteen it obviously but a lot of that has to re and the thought process that these players have when they are in those adverse situations what we talk about the week before the titans. Well look down here running for two hundred dollars. We expect him to do the same things against the cheap they stoned him for seventy yards. Got A lot to do with Andy. Reid obviously spags as well on the other side we look at Houston a jump out to a league and everybody is like what in the world is happening and read got his play sheet him him and his guy and he liked. Let's the Dow up. Let's get some points put on a boy different animal man but he a lot throughout this playoff. All right we will get back to the super bowl more on this show but we are going to get back to the story that has I've been dominating the headlines just the unfortunate terrible passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter G G as well as seven other victims of a helicopter crash a few days ago and we go to staples staple center where on Wednesday fans continued to mourn. This loss of Kobe Angie as well as the seven other victims meanwhile the Lakers held their first practice since the accident accident. "Torah go on the fan of cross country CBS. Sports Network joining US right now. A guy we've gotten to know over the last couple of months. I'm family yet. Family now it is family now it is Stephen Jackson. Nba Star former NBA star was fourteen years in the League man in years and now he's got the all the smoke. podcasts cast part of the Showtime Youtube Channel. And it's one of my favorite things to watch. I talk about it all the time. Him and Matt Barnes and they do an amazing job they get all the greats rates in the game and they have these real conversations. I only think that those guys can have because of the respect that they have earned throughout the years in the league. And and right after Kobe's passing I might reference your podcasts. A good one hundred times because I went back and watched the whole thing again First off how you hold it up. I'm good I'm good as can be. Amen I Hard time I was having the last couple of days. I can imagine the hard times families having you know is it just sucks to lose a guy who do you know. We all looked up to a guy who I grew up with idolizing and I just told you I never thought I have a idolized. Somebody the same age as me but just to see hero GonNa sewn in the way would you know losing his daughter and other family is it was unexpected and sad. I had to see because he was doing so it was doing better things. After basketball you know and It just it just sucks to see anybody goes through. The he he after basketball was already moved away from it that he legitimately moved away from the NBA and it was his daughter. Who brought him back into the game? Is that true. Yeah Yeah I think Gee Gee helped him get his love for the game back You know Kobe is nothing he could have done in basketball. You know and just ingest for him to that love he had and to see his daughter WanNa be him she wanted to be Mama. Say Mama Sita you know she wanted to be the female version COGAN. She had it in them and I think he saw that and they gave him the love for the game to go out and just help her but all women basketball you know. He became a big Fan of college. Basketball and I I just think he wanted to do something for the game for the women's game of basketball. That wasn't done and who else could do a better than Kobe. Bryant what Steve I just want to ask you one of the thing The day of the crash he and Gd went to church. ooh and they had communion early. She had an early game. Obviously they were moving pretty quickly because I had to get to where they were going. I mean the relationship between him and G G obviously as we see on social media now and everything else was so strong with so powerful and you could see. It's one of the reasons I think while we're also said about this whole thing and then comes a potential story where it seemed like. She was in his arms when they went down in this helicopter. Yeah I I heard stories to manage manages. It just sucks because I have five daughters and You know selfishly me if I had to go I would love to go hold on my a daughter to write. You know what I mean so if that was the situation I'm not surprised. I mean their relationship was one of a kind and You just edges. which is that it had to go that way? Yeah that's the thing is I would say in the last couple of days that that struck me both were in. I have have daughters as well and all I think about is is her finding something. She loves me being there to support it. That's what I think about. And she's very very young and you know there's a slam online slam magazine and did a feature on the two of them and where she was pushing them off hit jumpers and his face was like it was just I mean. That's the that's the thing I keep thinking about. And that's the saddest part about it and when I went back and watched the conversation you and Matt had with them and you mentioned how you never every coach idolize someone the same age that comes across man like that comes across in the way that you're asking them questions the way that you're listening to his answers and for someone someone to be respected by their peers in the way that he was that to me is the ultimate sign of a man's career. Yeah and and you're right because like like I said we were teenagers. We never thought anyone of US would be go down as one of the best players ever. But we knew he was like his attitude the way he approached the game just his aura. I mean at the McDonald's game you know we knew he was coming out of high school to the NBA. But you see by my parents other players parents like everybody wanted to take pictures pitches. Woodham it really in in high school. My mom posted a picture on her page us there for him at the McDonald's game my awkward did I did Mike Bibby did. Everybody did and Like we knew he was going to be that star in high school and It was it was it was beautiful to see what he was doing at the basketball man and I knew his next forty years is is going to be unbelievable. Did you realize that he was going to end up with the Lakers was there. I can understanding that. He was going to end up there after being traded there by the Charlotte Hornets on draft. I know you know what I think too. Kobe didn't matter where he was. You know what I mean. He want to play basketball. If if you would ended up in Charlotte he would have been the best in Charlotte. He would have been one of the best place still but I think it was destined for him to be on the team. Like the Lakers. I think we're all a lot of credit to Jerry. West Jail West saw. Aw that Kobe Bryant that we never knew that he was going to be so You gotTA give a lot of credit because Jerry with talking to Stephen Jackson of course a long great NBA career. How Matt Barnes on the all the smoke podcasts? And the story that that Matt told about it was that Orlando game when he was with Orlando. And then the whole no flinching with the inbound bounce pass and I love the line where. Kobe said that that brought us closer together. Because I said anybody who is dumb enough to Uh f with me can play with me I mean and that showed me an insight like you hear all the stories. I mean you're obviously appear of his but to get an inside look of of that and he reaches out to Matt because the guy was messing with him on the court. I think that I mean that that Kobe mentality right. They're really showing that story and and is easy to see because Like I played with Matt. And you want those type of guys on your team guys. They care about the game what people don't know is there's so many guys in the NBA. And I don't care how they feel about me saying it because I've seen it and I have no I don't I don't watch the game. I can't see five players that played hard and I played a lot of guys in the league. You know they're good enough to play but a lot of guys leave. Don't understand the game. They'll understand how to win a lot. I don't even WanNa win. They they find these contracts they found with being in banding foul comes with the game when you get when Kobe sees guys that one again they wanna win even if they don't work harder than them if they have passion for the game and and and and the game you know it's about winning you have guys that go out there and fight a land on the line that's the kind of guys you WanNa your team. You don't need got score fifty points when you've got Kobe Bryant. You need guys come out there and be dogs and Kobe dogs on his. He's at is like what happened with them in shock. I know there's been a lot written about it and all that other stuff. I'm sure you have some more intimate knowledge and we would probably know as general fans but to me a semi match that should have been made in heaven and then should've went on and continue to win championships but it never happened You know you got you can be too good at terms you know. Having to great players like Kobe then I think a lot of that was people on the outside. I don't think that was Kobe Shack. You know Obviously Shat got traded traded. And how could you trade a guy like you know what I'm saying. But they did the right thing by keeping Kobe but at the same time I think it was more people on the inside pulling them apart. You know Kobe Co probably would Kobe's team San where you need to beat you need. This need to be your team or shack. This is your team and kind of got in between them but at the end of the day I think they respect the same and you know oh I it touched me more to talk about it because you know. It's a lot of things that he wants to say to Kobe. That he couldn't say regrets a lot of it. Now that's what happens when somebody lead is in your life. Yeah and I I think he does. I don't think they had bad blood because they had even had a sit down you know on TV before before. Kobe pads but I just think it's a lot of stuff that was unfair. That wanted to say and it was all appreciation in. I don't think it was something you need to talk about that happened. I think it was all giving him flowers. You know before he passed. I just got to be tough for you because because you WANNA get the podcast out they want to be able to promote it but at the same time you know. Today's going to be another day. Where you have to talk about this and have to relive some madam just going through a day like today personally where you're on shows like ours in the at least you have a pre existing relationship with us? Banana talked to a bunch of strangers about this. I mean emotionally. That's gotTa via little exhausting. Yeah I mean it's crazy but it's a part of life you know what I mean. I mean actually to be honest with you. You can actually Chris. I was looking forward to come and talk to you guys this morning but I mean it's just a part of it. I mean like I said Matt is holding US Down Shutout Matt my my my partner in crime matters on the west coast holding us down in the hopefully he can get to the services services and all that and I'm down they're holding all smoke showdown. We're not GONNA put a episode out this Thursday. Yeah WE'RE GONNA continue to more impervious breaks to him and I think That was a great move. Basho Tom or making that happen. Do you have any idea when the memorial for Kobe Angie. Nah I don't I don't hope hopefully it will be so in the Lakers. Take the the court win. I think Friday Friday and they're at home. Yeah that's going to be and I'm glad that they. They postponed the game between the clippers. The Lakers who are they did the NBA did the right thing. Yeah and I think pretty much all the players across the NBA did the right thing. I don't think nobody really even want to play this week. I know Kyrie serving didn't play. He played last ninety played. Great Great I think what he did is he came out and he said you. Don't play for Kobe tonight. He spoke to after the and the thing I I would always say that if Kobi. What would Kobe want me to do one when Kobe expect us to do right what do you think we would want everybody? Pushing don't stop is one thing et like when he died. He said it's a minute the day we did this show..

"There heavily today to help us sift through all your thoughts in Kobe Bryant and really again just it's a real news from the last couple days that tragic helicopter crashed killing hope killing Kobe his thirteen year old daughter geon and seven other people on board who we will honor later on the program tonight as well you see the other victims their families speaking out issuing statements doing some interviews and that is just really really tough to take because as as awful and tragic as Kobe Angie on is that are obviously at the least Vanessa and the rest of Kobe's family there was the Bryant family they are set financially but then you know you just look at some of these other victims not to continue on their lives without that backing you know I assign interview on the today show this morning with Matt Moster whose wife Christina was a top assistant coach of the mom the girls basketball team when a G. honest coaches she was on the plane she perished and you know her husband says it's horrible I've got three small kids and I'm trying to figure out how to navigate life with three kids and no mom like it's it's just it's it's it's hard it's hard to speak through it but we're trying we're trying to do that tonight and what makes a little easier is listen to clips like we just did some career highlights of Kobe sixty points in his last ever game and you talk about Kobe's await career transformation and a bit of a friendlier Kobe Bryant a more jovial affable Kobe Bryant at the end of that night he jokes how everyone is entire career always wanted to shoot last and now they suddenly wanted to shoot more so that was a kind of stuff you got from Kobe at the end of his career that you did not get in the beginning of his career the self awareness and self deprecation not always so intense all the time and sixty points it is difficult to go out better than that not going up in Boston of course I remembered Colby as a great adversary of the Celtics just go back to Kobe's last appearance here in Boston December twenty fifteen he received a standing ovation from the garden faithful the game ended very appropriately Kobe had a deep three late to extend the Lakers lead to five I sing the contest and in my view some of Kobe's most impressive seasons where the nine twenty ten championship campaigns when you carry the Lakers to two straight finals victories including a game seven triumph over the Celtics in twenty ten and incredible second half comeback Celtics are leading by double digits entering the third quarter in Kobe with the Lakers all the way back to win their second straight finals scoring twenty seven points it was a rough night shooting form but in the end he found a way to do it as is so often sitting Kobe rightfully to calm the finals MVP that year being a Boston Jackie MacMullan of course one of the most respected MBA writers in the country is based here in Boston she wrote an excellent remembrance piece about Kobe for ESPN yesterday she said he once told there you can never understand why winning was not the most important thing for every player and that's what you want in every athlete that's what you want every athlete to think and believe and let's be honest you know as I said earlier Kobe was really hard on his teammates he was a drink at times I mean it got ugly between him in shock the Alberta VHS running guys out of the gym but again later in his career sock Kobe ease up a little bit making up which Jack and FAQ Kobe message Jaxon just hours before he died checking in on that says you are close Kobe and Shaq got later in life here you know maybe Kobe was never quite as good as Jordan or lebron the two stars have book ended his career but he's the.
