Fresh update on "knights" discussed on The Vegas Take

"Yeah, that's that's incredible, And the health factor is a big thing and patch already was. The victim of a really bad hit. We remember it was 10 years ago. You know, Ciara hits patch ready when he was playing for Canadians, and it's what was the glass where the bench meets the side wall and the round that glass in the NHL now is a result of that if they called the patch already glasses around, spring loaded, so if somebody has hit there That the contact is much less severe and penetrating this time. I mean, I have severe concussion wondered of his career could continue It has and it's been a wonderful career now over 300 goals, but just one mark of how fortunate you have to be and how committed you have to be to stay healthy in tow work through the Knicks and pains in the struggles that come with Playing the most physical sport night in and night out. I mean, it's normally 82 games a year. I think about other sports that are physical like football, for example, depending on your position. I mean, they played 16 games now, 17. Plus the playoffs mean yeah, hockey players. It's 82 games, and then it could be another 2025 in the playoffs. If you go all the way from no question, you know, I think of all the hits that Paul Korea took over the years as the great Anaheim Mighty Duck. I remember You remember this, of course. Dan Donald Shear the hit heat, the that this high stick or whatever. You wanna call it that that he took from Marty McSorley, and that pretty much changed him for the rest of his life. And you mentioned patch already. I mean, that could have been a life changing hit, and we're so glad that patch already recovered from that. But hockey is such a physical sport. It's a very dangerous sport. We've had referees that have had Extremely difficult situations getting hit by a hockey puck. I mean, it's incredible what this man has done, and I can't wait through the way that the Vegas Golden Knights salute him tonight. All right, So let's talk about the actual game itself. Of course, the San Jose Sharks. I'm sure you would agree, Dan. They're not really the dominant team of old. You look at their record their 18 and 22. They're not the team that they have been in the past. Still a decent taki steam still a dangerous hockey team. But right, this is not the same San Jose Sharks team that we've seen in years past. No, it's not close and Gary Wallace and Like this out on a recent broadcast. That s almost is, though, when Pete the Boar was fired by the Sharks last fall, and, of course, had no job for a few months until the Golden Knights hired him. Really they sharks did the bore a favor, because if it was going down the tubes in San Jose with her without Pete, the boar and then Pete ends up in Vegas, where he's coaching the team with the most wins in hockey, so There is that the Vegas is dominated the regular season. Syriza's through four years against the Sharks, and I don't know why. That is. With all the coaching changes and all the talent the both sides have had. The shark spokes will tell you the you know, Game seven and the second year of Golden Knights existence that will go down in history. It's one of their biggest moments in sharks history, and it's one of the harder moments to wrap your mind around from the Vegas standpoint. They've played each other in the playoffs Twice. Vegas wanted the first year the Sharks one of the second year, and guess what? The Shark did not make the playoffs last year, and the Sharks are not going to make the playoffs this year. So if you if you had to choose between which organization you want to be a end of right now, clearly, Vegas would be the one and not the San Jose Sharks Church and I don't know what the Immediate future. Looks like for San Jose. They've got some. You know, some players, they catch a ride, But is there enough up and coming to make it a competitive team? Doesn't look like right now. No, I agree with you. I think I think the franchises in a little bit of trouble. The future does not look very bright for the San Jose Sharks. I agree with you. So, So, Dan, let's talk about this game tonight in general terms, though. Obviously you have the Vegas Golden Knights in a back to backer. I know. I understand. The game wasn't last night. They had a little time to recover, but the San Jose Sharks have been here there well rested. Talk about who's gonna be in net tonight. And does it concern you at all that the Vegas Golden Knights don't have a day's rest? And the San Jose Sharks do on Lee and, you know, on the list of priorities? I put it down pretty far. I mean, the sharks. You know, sharks are bad right now. They have lost five in a row. Um, you know, they even lost against the Ducks. You know, Think about this Vegas just beat up on the Ducks. It was a pretty swift beating by Vegas against Anaheim. The Ducks just beat the Sharks for nothing and 4 to 1. Right. So there's the transitive property there. If you remember, like, fourth grade math, like if the Knights could beat up on the ducks that way, and the Ducks meet up on the sharks that way, then I should be able to handle San Jose. Now. That doesn't mean they're definitely gonna win. You talk about goaltending match up. In terms of rest there because of this incredible tandem of the Knights have Florian letter have the best goals against average in the league as a team. They're front runners for the Jennings Trophy here for the fewest goals allowed as a team and Fleury got the win yesterday afternoon. So you expect Robin Letter to get the start Today letter has one regulation loss all year. And we'll see if he can continue his stellar play. And then you've got Martin Jones, who's expected to be back in goal for San Jose, and I don't have to tell you that his numbers against the Golden Knights have been poor. This year. They have been poor really throughout the vjk San Jose history. And there's really not much depth that they traded away. Devon Dupnik who had been good against the night, there's a Minnesota wild goalie. But now Duke Nick is with the Colorado Avalanche. So the Sharks sold away their number two goalie so that'll make it even harder for the sharks to do anything here against the goal tonight. Is there anything intermediate to slam dunk? But it sure it's not a good match up. Everything you just said makes a ton of sense. And I agree with you, But is there anything to the point, Dan? That may be. The Sharks might have a little pep in their step, so to speak to win this one for Patrick Marleau. I mean, do you think there's anything to that? As members of the media? Do we kind of put a little bit too much into it? I think that there's something to that. And I also think that there that's what I had in mind the other day when the night's visited Anaheim because it was the first time that the Ducks were welcoming fans into their building this year. And they've only won five games at home this year had Anaheim and they still have only 15. Vegas beat him twice. So sometimes those things that we read into maybe there is a temporary boost You get from having fans in the building. The first period of that series was scoreless. Ducks were okay. But then the Knights scored three in the second period. That was all she wrote. So maybe there is a first period jolt you get from Marlow playing and his record breaking game. He's gonna be in the starting lineup. Maybe San Jose capitalizes on that early. Get a good bounce. Vegas makes a mistake or two. That was repeat. The board told me in a pre game interview that will have on the broadcast later today that you gotta work through those opening minutes. You kind of find your legs talk about having played on consecutive days now. You find your legs, You get through it, And then at some point you find your game as the Knights of so commonly found it. It's just are they in a in a good position when they do find their game? You know, in order for the sharks to have a chance. This one. They're gonna have to capitalize early on. What this Patrick Marleau boost that they ought to provide club agree..

"All right. Welcome back. It is the Vegas take sharpened Spear on the Monday Glad you could join us. Talk a little V G K hockey a little bit later on in the program with the voice of the Golden Knights, Dan Duval will be joining us little bit later. Every single time I talk about one of these mass shootings, you know, Of course, I think about October one I think about Columbine. Remember I was in college. Was in the billiard hall at my university, and I'm watching the carnage taking place. The Columbine shooting, and that was really the first mass shooting that I can recall that I can remember. That was the start of all this nonsense and carnage and innocent people getting killed and We know about these mass shootings that have been taking place throughout this country, especially recently. I mean, this is a staggering number in the last month, there's been 50 reported at least 50 mass shootings. Let me repeat that. Let that soak in for you for a moment. In the United States in this country alone, not worldwide in the last month or so. There have been 50 mass shootings. That is an embarrassment. It is disgusting. It needs to be addressed and reasonable people need to come to the table and figure out how to end this carnage. So in Texas well, apparently, according to Chris Cuomo, As soon as white kids start getting shot, then reform will actually take place, despite the fact that Tim Scott four months ago introduced a bill that didn't even make the floor. Um I don't. I don't know. Um The Chris Cuomo comment that that you're referring to, um But It's a matter of fact, per capita that blacks are shot 2 to 1 over whites, according to the study. It was put forth by the Washington Post. It was a study over a number of years, but I do understand what where Chris Cuomo was coming from, Which is this? Um, I do believe if these people that we're getting shot and killed by police officers were rich, wealthy people in Beverly Hills. I do think something would happen. But authorities are saying that they arrested a former sheriff's office detective he's suspected of killing three people in a shooting, which took place in Austin, Texas, yesterday. Not gonna give out his name, but he's a 41 year old. He was arrested just after seven A.m., according to Maynor, Texas police chief Ryan Phipps, Ryan Phipps. Made that statement. And now we have Joseph should konw. He's the interim chief for the Austin Police Department. And he said that this man who killed three people who is a former sheriff's office detective knew the victims. Have a listen to this. Our preliminary.

"Sean shontae. Thank you so much for being with me today. I think a mean inviting. Meteors face absolutely will fill in the blanks. What did i miss about who you are and what you do. I guess an important context part hoyas. I played basketball from sixth grade through college. Oh wow it don't really play much anymore. I played division. One basketball decided not to go any further. But i think that that is an important part of the essence who. Am part of why. I can stay so motivated and persevered through things. I don't like to do you learn delay. Gratification ended i and pain tolerance and all the thing. I was a gymnast not in college. But all through high school in blow. And i hear ya yes yes and then were infertility warriors. We've got four children but we struggle with infertility and so after. The first baby adopted a son because he really wanted a large family. I really wanted a large family and battle with infertility for four years before we were blessed with two more miracle babies and so i'm a mom of four also. That is awesome. And how old are your kids now. My kids are eleven eight soon to be six and soon to be four. Oh my gosh. Wow yes oh. My kids are teenagers. I have two teenage girls. So i'm in a different wild and crazy stayed past the them needing me every moment rate rate which the how often not moment. It's going to be here shortly. Maybe a little more than that and i understand that you recently quit your day job to focus solely on your modeling career. Can you tell about that. I did really. I didn't. I didn't quit it to become a model. I quit my job. Because i wanted to be a stay at home. Mom awesome but coming from corporate america and having a steady paycheck. That really freaked me out. And so i worked a lot to get some supplemental income somewhere and so modeling was something i did before children and so i just three signed with my previous agency before children so that at least i could say i had a job.

Is Zach Snyder's 'Justice League' a Good Movie?

"The very controversial for so many reasons for content reasons for formatting reasons i saw so many memes about the fact that it was reformatted. Four three zack zack. Snyder's justice league has officially dropped. We say dropped on the internet right. It's not like premiering a movie theater. It's just dropping on on. Streamers is fishy dropped on hbo. Max there's a complicated back story where zacks under had to leave mid production because of a family tragedy which is very sad judd app not try that patel just we took over just we apparently was a total asshole and there were all sorts of lawsuits. About what a dickey was and then you know. The film by many fans was not felt to reflects what zach snyder intended and there was long discussion of a zacks undercut image. Peo- max put in seventy million dollars to shoot a whole bunch more footage to make the zack snyder. Cut of justice league. Come out for years later. This is an interesting story because it is different. From a lot of directors cut stories. A lot of directors cut stories are ten years later. I'm grateful the studio give me access to the archive to rescan the negative and re-cut it is very rare in fact i can't think of an example where someone's like four years later. I got an extra seventy five million dollars to shoot additional footage to make an alternate movie like it is. Is there another example. That are missing where somebody got that. I don't know but what i do know. Is that in the history of film. There have been many many many directors cuts and extended editions and versions. That were revisited. We've talked about some of them here before. And most of our audience familiar with many of them It is not unheard of obviously for there to be something that prevents the original vision to be completed by the person who had it. And obviously there are many instances where somebody could go back and try and piece things together. Only orson welles. A number of times We even talked to. I talked to walter merch about going back in and recruiting and working on touch of evil. There are the magnificent emerson's with him as well. I think he's one of the early versions. Were early famous versions but bladerunner famously for anybody mir charles age And so much inbetween. It's such a common story but this one does stand apart because yeah he was given basically a massive feature film budget to make more of it his version of it and it is an interesting thing like will this happen more often. Will we get criminal. And saying actually i want to shoot a whole different ending too dark dark knight rises fifteen years later. Because i've rethought it. And i wanna go into a very complicated sort of relationship between the artists and the work when you remove the theatrical premiere and when you open up the idea of shooting original additional footage it is a it's vastly different so Full disclosure wasn't able to finish it have a two year olds. Get very sleepy very easily. Don't have four hours with two year. Old where i can watch the whole thing but universally in my social media of the people in my life everyone i know seems to have really enjoyed the new cup more than the last cut. I do not understand why people hate on sex neither so much. I genuinely enjoyed his dawn of the dead. I thought it was solid. I also am a like. I wanted to get into movies. Originally to make watchmen. When i was nice school. I don't hate his watchman. Cut like everyone else does. I don't understand whether so mad about it. I think people to hate sex. Neither for some reason that does not make sense to me. I'll also disclosed and then michelle. I know michelle is actually watched both right but so i have watched the new one. I watched the snyder cut. I did it. I made it through. Well di i not a big comic book movie fan. In general i have seen many of them though. And i did not see the original justice league so i had to do some research on what changed which was really interesting to me. I also actually really think highly of him from a visual standpoint. I find that even when he's not like a lot of the movies directed this one included. The material is just not great in my opinion but he's visually so committed to the bit that he does that his sequences really worked for me. And i think he's a great comic book movie director choice. Because i think he's really. His camera is like ballot. Check i think his action sequences are visually compelling. And i think his approach like to me the thing that felt the weakest about this. I mean obviously the some some major casting problems major script problems but all that aside i think it it mimicked. Some of what marvel does too much sometimes which i don't really like. They're some straight up. Like this is just an avenger. Seen but not as good. And i don't really love what it was in the first place personally but all my my personal take aside. I think filmmakers He is just he really doesn't. He's earnest he's not tongue in cheek and sometimes it gets a little silly and you might laugh. But i think his earnest approach to how dramatic he is with his camera like from dawn of the dead to the three hundred to a and tackling real quick charles before michelle I think that warner brothers is known to have some really tight released times. They don't have the same war chest that disney does for like they. They set these release dates. They they have to make them. I'm not going to get into the wise. And if sets really true but and that puts a lot of pressure on finishing something and delivering something. And i think that some of the the flaws in some of these dc comic book movies have to do with some of that some of us so anyway onto you. Michelle i f Well done on watching. The center is a endeavor. I i think i knew what the runtime was. But it doesn't click in my head until i was watching and the timeline at the bottom. It has like how long you've watched. And i miss read it. I thought it was much like when it said two and a half hours at the bottom. I thought that was a total Not they meant time that i had laughed and that was quite a surprise. So it's long. Don't don't kid yourself jack. Knifed mini series has parts could have been released in parts. My first input. If you will is i feel like i. Keep reading the quote snyder cut. That snyder wouldn't release in two thousand seventeen and i would argue that. I don't know this is i. Don't think this is at all what would have been released for so many reasons. It's a it's a post weeden post tragedy post. Hbo max snyder display. I don't think we would be able to release a for. I could be wrong. A four hour epic in a theater in twenty seventeen. I don't obviously say that. There are many teaser. There are changes are subtle there. Some people have pointed them out and in terms of very subtle and different. Like stolen changes. That i think are in there now. For example there's a billboard others billboard in the city at some point in the messages you're not alone and a lot of people have guessed that something that snyder put in in reference to his daughter. Like these little things that have been put in log away 'cause post years of reflection on it and i just don't think not content aside just the run time. I'm not sure how many people really yes for hours within a theatre. Let's do it. I don't know if we the same. i do. Think a really interesting experiment if anyone ever wants to ever play with this idea of same footage different story concept of how to edit something together. Because i started watching the josh sweden version the same evening. Don't do this same evening through off after watching case for a minute i thought you were. You said you meant side by side like you had to i. Four by three setup does allow you. I will say to have it on the side of my screen. As i was like doing some work so i will say the former three at least helpful in the arrangements of your browser window because like i'm not cutting anything off because it's not a letterbox or other format so the four by three is is is makes it easier to have the size. No i tried watching the conversion right. After some of the scenes giving away some of the scenes that feel pivotal in the story. Line are like thrown in the credits. The opening like oh i get with. This is going to do you. I don't know if i can sit through

We did a company rewrite of our project and we started from the ground up dan with cartoon or katelyn underdog extra bonus cortines and so forth. So so is this your first multiplatform project or not so does sage. i wasn't using work. Under gorbachev sort of had supposed to give you know a little bit more brought on their. You know like this. Be working on mobile for eleven years now and i guess over time like many of us you know we would have source accession cross platform. I guess there's always sort of cross pot from monty python but cross platforms kind of sounders. Right once so reproaches. The dab senator in reactnative approaches. And you know over the course of various projects in the previous companies in new product. Monday or somebody coming in that. Have read some headline. This allows you to do everything in one place all your code face. We don't need to have all these separate irish and each time you took sort of had to move. That weren't approved was an us. Disapprove that dickey. We're gonna do competitions. And we had to prove that this wasn't suitable for the type about. We were developing this platform. it's christians. We needed an end user experience. We need But i'm saying that is supposed as a segue to you know I guess what come interesting monte platform. Because when i when cosimo mantra was aware of it i think we're not to those nineteen towards the end of that. It's sort of immediately struck me as okay. This is a pragmatic saint approach finally to the sharing of code across multiple platforms mobile. I've been involved by the way sort of number of initiatives over the years for free. Willion superstars shared code into office. Which is at least somewhat more sane approach but. I don't know if you guys have worked with john. I had to work jay. You know unfortunately goldstone feel like. That's one of those topics that if you can you usually avoid it. I guess yeah if you can avoid using it as well as we various we had to use it in their practical use. And it's one thing using stateless knight ridder touch it can function as in which you maybe media engine i. I just wanted to say on the topic of jane. I think this is. This is going to become a bit more interesting again now. Also with With all the topics around compulsive for desktop because of a bunch of lake system integrations. I dunno things like global hot keys or stuff the. jvm just doesn't really expose. so i think some some of the people at the forefront. They're wanting to write libraries. Yeah they might might have to go that route anyway. Yeah you know if if you're using it. I robot michael state library that district district functions wanting using your compete shared logic with the framework with the training involved with life cycle aspects. Dot is a different story completely debugging crush reports of So haven't gone through. That in us was having seen the sort of attempts sort of pulling in pushing us towards cross. Platform frameworks cottam. Okafor's was immediately. You know the caught cartoon. The cartoon obviously was an advantage a positive from my perspective but more generally i think it was a sane approach it was targeting shared logic target. Had kind of a mechanism in place where you could sort of. This is critical. You could incrementally adopted you know you start putting in for some small area. And i think that generally by today's still is that you start doing that in you take some particular business. Logic may be may be remote. Api endpoint access or so forth and then graduated up from there. And you know there's another kind of a discussion point around how you socialize that how you get in particular iowa's developers interested in an accepting of the but it's the topic himself but certainly certainly from that perspective. At least i think it's very important. Start small and and as the key thing about the type forums. It appealed point was that it had that capability that it it was lended itself to that sort of adoption. Yes so so just to kind of to recap your point. You feel that the that the main difference between cartland multi platform and these other cross platform. Toolkits is is what exactly that you can adopt them. Incrementally that you that you stay away from From what part would you say is kind of the most interesting here. This quite a few different aspects. I think cutting across different areas You know on one hand. I think If you've been involved in from at all you're very kevin gallagher and sort of pre advocates in and you know of this for some time and i think he did. He described it as a sort of perspective risk management as well. You know you're trying to you're trying to avoid locking out upsetting kita one key differentiator. A there's a. There's a number of them. I think but won't different areas. If you decide to use react native reuse flutter or use a variety of other coaches that have been there over. The years is a song that amount of of and and you know it's an all or nothing sort of approaching the with with commodity farm and it allows you to manage. You know you. Can you can sort of put in graduate. Start using it. Then the flip side of that is this touches on a couple of areas obviously but folks on sheriff business logic as ios an underdeveloped. I wanna use the best of breed technologies ideas get companies. That can when i on on iowa. Sony's combine that we have to frame of their likewise android. Cauchon coatings influence worth and that. That's the key difference here. You know that focus that you know it. I think touches on another area. I think we've got sort of a certain level of maturity culture monte platform where i think a good sign some regards that we've gone beyond okay. This is proof of concept What's it about renown sort of digging deeper into so architectures and different approaches. You can use. And i think this is is little bit as sort of a simplistic way sometimes mentioned quotas just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something so i think we've be careful. You know it is. Its main sort of setting point is is as focused on shared logic. I see a lot of discussions pushing further up the stack. You know the view model and potentially you you hear in the context composed nowadays. of course. why can't we to compose. and. I think there's a danger to honest. Econ generally too much of a dangerous on too far up and then it just becomes another spot framework. I think our approach in general

Is The Sperm Race A Fairy Tale?

"Tell me a little bit about what you learned way back when about how conception works well. They showed us this video that described conception as a kind of obstacle course where the sperm little tadpole looking things and when they enter the vagina during this hostile environment. And they've done fight their way through all these obstacles and make it to the egg and the sperm. That reaches the egg wins. Kind of how it was told. Yeah that's pretty standard. It's similar to what i was taught to. And i spoke to lisa campbell angle stein. She's a reproductive bioethicist and she pointed out that we use really gendered language to describe this biology. She calls it a fertilization tale. So the sperm is this shining knight. Who's there to save the aig damsel in distress. And the sperm has all the agency the sperm is on a mission the sperm is fighting off other sperm to be the one to conquer the egg. Where's the egg is just sort of passively floating around waiting for the night and doesn't do anything itself. How does exactly what they told us. Yeah and lisa examined tons of textbooks at all levels from middle school to medical school for this kind of bias and she found some pretty wild stuff. For example sperm had this little hat like structure called the acronym textbooks described it as a motorcycle. Mean they could have called. It did horseback riding home at a ski how they could call the any type of helmets motorcycle helmet rights and that conjures up images of masculinity islanders. Tough guy weathers well clearly once again. The patriarchy finds a way but in this case. Isn't the story. exactly what happens. Biologically how it all goes down. Actually not at all. Oh no right. I am ready to go back to school. I want this post talk. Talk ariella let's do it. Only while buckle up today on the show go back to school to revisit the sperm race narrative and look at the ways that the edge and the reproductive tract plan active role in this process. I'm ariella zabidi. And i'm emily kwong. You are listening to shortwave the daily science podcast from npr. Alright classes in session. We're going back to school shortwave. School the best kind of school yes to learn about conception yeah and just to be clear. Today we're talking about this process as it plays out internally but a lot of folks conceived through the reproductive technologies like ibf. Yeah which are very cool. Okay just to recap. When i was taught conception in school it was basically described as a survivor style. Sperm race but ariella. You're telling me that this is a lie. yes yes. There are a few really big problems with this narrative when sperm i arrive in the vagina. They can't really race. I talked to jimmy heison. She's a biology professor at smith college. They don't have enough energy to make it to the side of conception. They don't have enough directional but isn't that what the cute little tales or for like don't the sperm use them to swim yet. Details do give sperm some swimming ability. But that's not a complete picture. The sperm are getting there faster than they could all on their own. And we've seen in rats and other mammals that even dead sperm can reach the lopion tubes so it seems like sperm. Don't rely that much on their own mobility. So are they getting their. The reproductive tract is bringing them along. Oh that is amazing. Okay how is the reproductive tract. Doing that so i talked to kristen hook. She's an evolutionary biologist. And she told me it's doing this tons of ways by changing the thickness of the reproductive tract fluid. Just like if we were swimming in a swimming pool with water versus a swimming pool of honey. You're gonna move differently in these different fluids or with contractions summer to contractions in your stomach after you've had a big meal or whatnot to move your food through your intestines so it's like the sperm are on one of those moving sidewalks y-yeah they're being transported along eventually reaching the philippian tubes. Okay and what happens after that. So the sperm. Start to move their tails more intensely. Which makes those pretty useless movements. We talked about earlier. More powerful research just that fluids in the reproductive tract kind of give the spur more energy. Think of it like taking a bath in coffee one. That's dreamy to the idea that the reproductive tract literally gives the sperm. Their strike is giving me strength right now. That is fantastic. I know emily. The official name for this process is hyper activation. Though that's riveting and there's even more the reproductive tract also has to prepare the sperm for one. It eventually meets the egg right now. The sperm is a little overdressed for the occasion. It's got a layer of stuff on that prevents it from binding the egg and molecules in the reproductive tract helps strip off layer so that the sperm is ready to bind. Ooh la la naked sperm. Okay and emily remember the sperm. Don't have is they have no idea where the heck they're going so the egg provides them with a gps it releases these super attractive chemicals that show the sperm where to go. Oh so it's like leaving breadcrumbs for them to follow. Yeah and you have to realize that philippian tubes aren't this straightforward path. It's really complex and winding there. There are tons of little crevices so without those crumbs. The sperm probably wouldn't know where to go. We were taught to think of it as a racetrack. Right but kristen. We know better now if you wanna go with a racetrack idea at least recognized that it's a dynamic race track so it's not like the german audubon. It's more like You know like more like a rainbow road where you have twists and turns and places to fall off and there are checkpoints that you get ask for your license registration and proof of insurance. I'm sorry proof of insurance. What does that mean honestly. That's not too far off from reality. And this brings me to may be the coolest part of all of this. Remember that hostile environment you described earlier. Yeah but you know. I was brainwashed back then in health class and i and i regret saying that because it sounds like the reproductive tract is actually far more helpful than hostile here. You totally but it is true that there are tons of obstacles along the way that seemed to be counterproductive. Like at one point these big immune cells surround the sperm and literally. Eat them. No that's terrifying. Yeah you don't want to be the sperm in that face off so it makes sense that you and me and teachers everywhere described this as a hostile environment but now starting to realize that these obstacles the actually have a purpose. It works to separate sperm. That are dysfunctional. From those that are functional works to separate debris that enters into the reproductive track with quotas and it separates the wheat from the chaff. Shall we say and then it takes what it needs or wants to the site of

Best Moments of the Golden Globes 2021

"Think of the globes as an entertainment event that are really big. Audience still watches in part because a lot of people see it as the kickoff for oscar season. Let me just say if you're queasy about these awards being granted any weight at all you will get. I think no argument from us. That is certainly not our position so to the degree that they mean much. There certainly were some good property. Some good movies and television that were honored Start with nomad land. Which one sort of the top top movie prize. Best motion picture drama and also best director for chloe jau. We just covered this Recently on pop culture happy hour so we don't necessarily need to rehash that whole thing but we were big fans. I loved seeing khloe jowl win. Yeah yeah The top prize for a motion picture. Musical or comedy went to borat subsequent film a movie that i like to say not for linda's but i know people who who love it really love it also winning for that was sasha baron cohen who won best actor for a musical or comedy. The best actor in a drama this one delivered one of the best moments of the night for sure that award went to chadwick boseman for my rainey's black bottom boy that was that was quite a moment accepting the award on his behalf was his wife. Taylor simone lead word and look the globes are trashy and meaningless and then something real happens out of nowhere and that was a really effective speech and a really effective moment in an evening. That felt shambolic in chaotic. Otherwise something beautiful something inspiring something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells you can tell you to keep going calls you back to what you were meant to be doing. At this moment in history he would think it kind of felt similar to the moment of that whole series of heath. Ledger getting his posthumous awards for his role in dark knight and it felt really earned and it didn't phillips just because he had passed away like this was the role of a lifetime for him and i'm really glad to see him being honored in that way. Yeah it was a very very moving speech. If you didn't see it. I encourage you to seek it out. It's all over the place that award. I think was wonderful to see not too surprising. One that i think was surprising was Andrew day for the united states versus billie holiday aisha. You saw this to the surprising not too much. I think that there was a lot of buzz for her. And i think that it was more likely she was going to win award for this. Then she might be to win for an oscar if she were to get an oscar nomination but she does a really great job of sounding like billie holiday without sounding too much like her like. It's feeling like mimicry. And she is by far the best thing about the movie and we'll actually be covering it in our tomorrow so everyone can check it out fantastic. I'm extremely excited. I haven't seen it yet. In addition to that the first award of the night actually in of of presentation was daniel. Columbia for judas. The black messiah. They had a little glitch with his audio. You know they were figuring it out. We've all had that glenn said the motto of the pandemic was going to remind your muted. It was a little bit of a mom. You're muted kinda moment. But i was not surprised that he that he won that he's wonderful in that movie. I think you didn't pay on. Is this on. Is this on a cool cool. He really is. And it's a solid win. I mean like he started speaking and you heard millions of voices crying out. You're on mute. Dan mute and i think that moment should make the montage in years to come if there is still a golden globe sincere to come because who knows but like that will be the most emblematic acceptance speech of two thousand twenty one easily that will crystallize this moment in time.

"Any rose to be behind the bench again tomorrow against the blues. He mentioned that he thinks that brown is going to run practice for the civil rights again tomorrow. He said he's expecting to run or help around the knights kind of premium video session tomorrow morning before they played the blues. The knights assistant coaches are still going to kinda cut up video clips. Like they normally would. But they're going to send them to the civil night staff to kind of go over and then present to the golden knights players so we haven't gotten official word as of now as to whether that will actually be the case whether mckerman and the silver knights coaching staff will be basically the night acting. "Review journal once again talks about live hockey because golden knights training camp is underway and. We are so so excited to start discussing it with all of you. Am ben goto. One of your golden knights review journal beat writers. Joining me on the other line is my colleague. Dave shane dave. How excited are you to walk back into a hockey rink. I'm pretty Pretty excited i gotta say. I don't i don't wanna take this and do a you know in a dark place or whatever but i'll last few months of been easy especially for me. I will admit that Definitely hit a couple rough patches along the way so it's nice to have a hockey back like getting back to regular schedule. You know just kinda functioning normally. It's it's starting to feel a little bit normal again. I guess so. That's a good thing. Yeah we are so excited to have hockey back to be able to break down the early training storylines with all of you. Which is what we're going to do on this episode. I i need to ask. Dave another very specific question dave. You had a phenomenal twitter post the other day and you've got your haircut. How are you feeling now that your hair is gone and hockey is back. We'll to quote somebody on that threat. I think i went from mark stone to jonathan marchessault. The ass pretty out of control. I I had it cut in july right before training camp two point. Oh and you know just kind of let it go for a little bit and then said okay. I'm i'm going to let it really role in late. You know until hockey comes back. It's gonna be it's gonna be. We are have it all up there. you know. there's a little patch. That's missing up there. But what i do left grows pretty fast so it was like six months of outrageousness in it was time for a change but i thought everybody have fun. Fun with the picture. I i said this before. The two on on one of the radio shows that. I did though i was surprised. People were giving me a hard time about like only wearing the same outfit. I'm a cartoon or something and only have one certain panzer. He was clearly shot in the car before and then a win in to get the haircut and then shot at after so it's not like i only one pair of You know closer were what was like a zip in an apollo. "knights" Discussed on Golden Edge - Vegas Golden Knights Hockey

"Podcast las vegas review journal talks about hockey and we got some hockey stuff swirling about their some golden knights players and of course their coach are out and about doing charity work. The league in the players are hashing out. Return to play details a lot of hockey stuff kind of just in the air. Not all that concrete yet. But that's out there. I of course goats. One of your golden knights review journal beat reporters. Joining me on the other line is my colleague. Dave dave can you also since the high heck. Yeah i got. I got the hot chocolate. I been sipping gained into the holiday spirit. I you know. I like our friend. Smokey robinson says happy shinyuka to our to our listeners who were members of the tribe and might go check out some christmas lights later. So yeah definitely feel like all hockey. It's all starting to feel like like we're getting closer. Yeah happy holidays to you. Everyone who listens. We appreciate you guys so so much. We probably won't get to talk to you guys before the holidays happen for some of you know of course As dave mentioned there's already holidays going on as well but just happy holidays. Whatever you believe in celebrate. I hope you have a wonderful time of year. At least make the best of it that you can because we're all just trying to do that right now in terms of the hockey stuff that's also in the air. We're going to dive in on some specific stuff when it comes to the nhl kind of return to play details later on in the show but for now the kind of a topic items are really just that nothing has officially been settled. The two sides are still hashing out a lot of things. They're not fighting over money necessarily anymore. They are haggling over the rosser rules quite a bit. That seems to be one of the big hangups. Obviously the thing is kind of like they had in baseball this past year. You need a taxi squad in addition to your main roster that you kind of bring from place to place just in case positive tests pop up and all of a sudden you know. Three players can't play in a given game while you'd have to taxi squad that you can pull from to fill out your lineup. Well how many players are going to be on that taxi squad. Do they need to clear. Waivers to taxi squad helmets. Do they get paid of the salary cap ramifications. All that sort of stuff is still being discussed. I think there's been at least some discussion about we expand the roster little bit go from like twenty three to twenty five will obviously their salary cap implications and stuff with that because teams length nights that are kind of pressed up against the cap. Probably don't want to expand their rosters because they can't necessarily do unless there's some cap wiggle room there so a lot to still figure out there so that's kind of the non update update in terms of the league of the whole in terms of a the nights. There's a lot to at least discuss because the knights appear doing some charity work yesterday at help of southern nevada. There are several players in coach. Pete deboer involved there. I also got a chance to talk to four over the weekend. Dave got to talk to some players indoor yesterday so we want to go through some of the highlights of all of these conversations. But i off dave on borrow a question from one of our great co workers who sent this e mail when you file your story yesterday. And i think he speaks for a lot of people showed up to you. Tony did you see deboer sword in hand what. He was working Delivering bikes to needy families with marc andre. Fleury yesterday ahead. No not even a she or anything like they were chummy was great they were joking around pailin. Right like like jumps. Apparently they had. Let's pardon the pun barry the hatchet or whatever. Yeah it was kinda. It was kinda funny i you know. Maybe it's christmas spirit or had a good chat but no sign of a sword anywhere. Now there you go. That's a good Sign for the night. Certainly and it's the whole soared. Thing of course was just part of a crazy year for four. I talked with him a little bit over the weekend. But i mean if you just really go back and retrace. His last eleven months Of course got hired january fifteenth by his former teams rival then he got hit by a global pandemic then. He had to go play bubble hockey with the team. I mean it's just been insane time for him and his family and he actually said he bought a house in las vegas four. Everything shut down in march but he didn't actually to move in until november first so he's only been in town really the last month and a half and He told me he's still getting out and exploring the area which is just kind of crazy to think about the adjustments. That kind of he's telling making to even living here one piece of big news he shared is that we talked about this a three weeks ago. That four nights players tested positive for covid nineteen will now all four have recovered. According to the board he did say however one of them was hit pretty hard by it. There was not a hospitalization involved or anything like that but deboer said the player in question was knocked out for three or four days. I think that's definitely an early sign that This virus potentially have a big impact not just potentially on the nights but on the league as a whole it certainly still affecting you know college football. The nfl obviously college basketball because unlv basketball is now on pause because coach j. also burger tested positive. So this is certainly something that's Knocking necessarily go away then. In terms of hockey topics damore obviously thrilled about the fact that the team signed alex portray angelo who she worked with at a world championships before he was also happy. That robin lehner re-sign which wants get it. Sounds like he's happy to have both goaltenders because he marc andre. Fleury seemed chummy. A divorce did say that. He anticipated playing. Both those goalies allot during the season. It's we've been talking about this for months but it's likely that this upcoming regular season is going to be condensed. Maybe four games a week of just to get as many in as possible before the league has to get out of the calendar to make way for the summer olympics called having that tandem of our country flurry and robin lehner at his disposal. A huge advantage for the team. I'm gonna. it was funny. Because when i asked him about that i preface the question with you know. Let me be the first of like hundreds of people to ask you about this. But i do feel like know this is just going to be a season-long storyline if he marc andre. Fleury appear chummy right. Yeah for sure. He's asked about it yesterday. Charity stuff. Marc andre fleury was asked about it just in terms of how he sees the workload what he expects how. How essentially like if we're gonna have a condensed schedule like you mentioned in a lot of back to backs everything. Compressed into you know a handful of months here. The both goals are going to be needed. So i think as long as you know as long as both goals are on the roster and the golden knights are allocating twelve million dollars of salary cap hit during a flat cap era to the goal tending position. There's always gonna be questions. Lingering and things like that about what's going on the story might not gonna go away until i guess. Maybe that issue is resolved in. It will probably go. You know as long as marc andre fleury is on this roster all through the postseason in. Who's starting all that sort of stuff. So i mean if the put it this way if the if the golden knights are prepared for those questions a better hedy haredi.

"What is a hockey fans. This is the golden edge. Podcast the podcast. Where the las vegas review journal talks about hockey and a lot of other stuff surrounding the game. I am ben. Goat's your las vegas review journal. Golden knights beat writers. Joining me on the other. Line is my colleague. Dave shane dave. How's it going. How's your pre thanksgiving week going so far awesome. I had the best birthday present ever. My dyno's took down the korean baseball title swell daddy in me. Been out partying. I i started with them at the start of the season i rode with them all summer. All the way to the end here so go dyno's respect to you for the consistency. Because i one thousand percent fell off the k b o of course initially being very locked in to my lg twins. Because of course. I from minnesota. So there's just synergy there so i respect the fact that you're dedicated enough to carry it on all the way to november partying to celebrate the see that trophy. It's like a giant sword like x. Or something it's great man. That is incredible. I think it should give the nhl some pause when they described the stanley cup as the greatest trophy in sports. Because you cannot impale someone last. I checked with the stanley cup. But of course we're not going about and there's no written on it either true. We're not going to discuss our favorite weapons slash trophies on today's podcast. We are going to discuss some of the Interesting interviews dave. And i have done over the past few weeks that you can check out on. Were you drill dot com. I think they're pretty good story that we've managed to put together and of course we will be discussing the news that came out late last night. That four golden knights players have tested positive for covid nineteen four. He gets all that. I wanna remind everyone that the golden age podcast is presented by indeed pepsi in favor. Shot drink a favor dot com. Please check out all written work at the rj. And of course if you could rate review subscribe whatever you podcast. Due to this one it would be a very much appreciated. So like i said just then. We got the news late last night. I think around like eight thirty right after monday night. Football head wrapped up for me that the golden knights had had four players that were not identified test positive for covid nineteen. The nights at all of those players are self isolating and so far recovering. Well as a result the team has closed off see national arena to players basically through the weekend Which makes sense. They obviously have to probably run additional tests. Make sure that Four players is where of the spread stopped. The nights you know have been allowed along with other. Nhl teams can get together informally for workouts as. They're kind of awaiting word as to win the twenty. Twenty twenty one. Nhl season will officially start. Or it'll just be the twenty twenty one. Nhl season but obviously this was not good news for an organization that managed to kind of avoid the viruses. Best one could leading up to training camp in july when they're getting ready for the return to play and then of course in the bubble no-one tested positive so the knights had a very good track record. And obviously it's kind of tough that as they're potentially gearing up for next season that they hit the speed bump. Yeah i mean you hope everybody's okay to begin with. I mean that's the first thing is you know. Just how it's affecting everybody and you hope it's you know folks are asymptomatic or minor. Whatever i mean obviously like it's out it was public mean. Even you know of affected me in sort of a weird sort of way. I mean like bill fully tested positive for for covid nineteen. So it's been around. I guess you could say the team and sort of indirect way I mean you look around other sports. I mean heck. Ben are wisconsin minnesota rivalry this week is potentially in peril of for football because of because of covid You look at other sports. Obviously you've seen around the state. The numbers the spike I i don't wanna say it's inevitable. I mean it's just kind of the the numbers it's the odds. i mean. knock on wood. As i have left a house today and a handful of days for anything and and my hair continues to decline. Like you know. I don't know bad haircut. But anyway like i don't want to say like i said inevitable but it was. It was sort bound to happen. I mean it's it's been other sports at places you know you just hope i guess. At this point everybody can get healthy. We don't know when training camp and things like that are going to start like we've talked about in the past but you figure you know at least if if everybody is okay going forward that that they can move on from this. Yeah i mean. I think you hit the nail on the head there in terms of like you know this is not a totally unexpected situation at this point just because as you pointed out the testing numbers in nevada. I mean they literally hit an all time high today. Tuesday as we're recording this now. It should be said that because these players that has a positive were not identified. We're not one hundred percent sure or not whether these players are in nevada. The fact that they're closing obviously city national arena. Sure makes it seem like it but not one hundred percent there but even outside of that. I mean we also heard this morning. Tsn reported that the blue jackets appear to have an outbreak in columbus Also this morning team. Canada had two players in their world. Junior camp tests positive. So they cancelled a scrimmage that they are planning on holding and you know in that team. Canada camp are golden. Knights prospects payton crabs cayden quarterback and lucas who they just drafted in the third round. So this is affecting obviously the entire league. This is affecting. Of course just the sports landscape as a whole as we see you know you know. The football recently had a game cancelled seeing college. Basketball cancellations all across the country. And i think it makes it. Crea- clear dave that one way or the other business going to be an issue that the nhl might have to deal with potentially all year. Absolutely i mean if they're talking about january first and starting up in those sorts of things having training camps in two weeks and potentially having training camps even earlier for the seven teams. that didn't make the postseason. A you know. All this is going to be affected by by the virus and testing going forward. I mean we've seen it in with the nfl games you know. Potentially being postponed cancelled pushback. you figure you know at some point all this you know unless i mean i guess you look fingers crossed like whatever vaccine that it seems to be developed in all positive signs seem to be pointing to its effectiveness. Oh you would hope that. All those sorts of things can happen quickly. I don't know we know. What sort of timeline. Those medical things happen on. I'm not gonna pretend that epidemiologists or anything like that. But.

"The jersey isn't my favorite. But i do love that. They re purposed the old minnesota north stars colors into that jersey. And obviously that means of course that the north stars who then moved and became the dallas. The dallas stars didn't like do a minnesota north stars throwback and that to me makes a lot more sense in terms of even though the stars would technically probably own you know kind of the retroactive rights. They're the team. Really the heart of the team was left behind in minnesota. So it's cool that minnesota fans get to see those colors again even though i don't think it quite works with their current logo which we could spend a lot of time breaking down the wild current logo. Because i think everyone has a lot of questions about what's going on there but the colors are. Yeah they get the forest you got you got a river a lake however. There's a lot happening in the logo that we don't have time to get into but i do like the colors. Also actually that gray for the sharks works really. Well i think those jerseys are really slick and you know my my hot. Take off limb here. And i'm actually gonna say as cheesy as they are in the same argument that used for when you know the seattle team named their team. The cracking i think the anaheim ducks. Ter- is just fun. I'm here for fun and obviously in this case. I'm not sure exactly how much these jerseys are going to be used in an actual game. And if i thought these jerseys we're gonna be like a serious part of the rotation like the golden knights goal jury potentially will be. I might be later on them. But just as something that's cool and like fun to look at and potentially fund like throw out there. I'm down with the ducks jersey. And the duck. Come out of the ice hockey stick. I think it's fun. Actually think the callers are kind of cool. So i dig it and then the ones that i don't dig. Would you touched on some of them but not really digging the boston yellow too much. I get that there's like with the red wings. There's not a lot you can do there. But there's not a lot happening for me to get excited about the blues. Have a red jersey as well. Really dig that one. I don't think that's one that any blues fan is gonna be that excited to get their hands on but overall. I think these came up pretty nice. League did a nice job doing something fun with them. I should point out. I'm actually down with the arizona coyotes purple jerseys as well. Because it's also fun but i should mention with this jersey now in the knights closet..

"A dugas new after just to being a pro and obviously that means you know increase physicality compared to playing against college players as well as obviously just the grind of the schedule For those of you. That aren't super familiar in college. Hockey teams usually play kind of twice over weekend than they have a break until the next weekend. Because you know obviously theoretically supposed to be attending classes. Monday through friday during the day. Obviously when you're professional hockey player you have to play a lot more often. There's a lot more games on your schedule. And that takes its toll on guys a lot. Is they're adjusting. So be curious to see how he kind of you know works through that fights through that this year once again just like he's a guy that's got a lot of potential to be a useful depth piece for the knights moving forward here. I don't think he's gonna necessarily put himself in that same category as kind of an offensive call up like elvis might but because he has a little extra grit to his game he could be potentially cleaner fit in the bottom six if there were to be openings that end up happening there so i think he is a little bit more lineup. Versatility than elvis. Just because elvis is going to be a little bit probably more relying on his offense in the nhl dugan has a little bit of extra elements in terms of you know his greediness his size that he can bring to the table that he could potentially be a useful bottom six guy if he adjusts well enough in the nhl and if he can focus on that defense as well because obviously if coaches can't trust either those guys to help keep the puck out of their own net. They're not going to trust him to try to put it in the others teams net. Another guy i want. Wanna talk about an. I'm gonna switch defense. Now is dylan. Cognition and so cognition. Unlike those other two guys does have a little bit of a heads up in terms of he was on the postseason roster for the nights he got to go to the bubble with them so he spent a little bit more time around not just kind of the h. l. coaching staff. Which now obviously. There's going to be a fresh coaching staff in here He spent time with the nhl coaching staff. He's been around the knights actual coaches. The nave gotten to know him very very well by now. The biggest very telling that He along with nick hag we're kind of the to age-old cops for playoffs. And then the other depth defensemen the knights had on hand were derek england and john merrill and obviously those two players are now gone. John merrill has signed with detroit red wings in the nights via gm kennedy mccrum have basically come out and said you were not bringing their england back so now..

"Going back to just bubbles fulltime would be because you talk to a lot of the golden knights players once they left a edmonton. They're pretty happy to leave. And you can understand. Why a lot of these guys have obviously partners wives girlfriends. A lot of them have kids. And i feel like being away from them for months on end again was probably going to be a non starter for the players and then ultimately the players association so it sounds like the nhl might be trending toward a hybrid format. Kind of you know. Not quite as strict of a bubble but still a little bit of a bubble going to next season. Bettman did however not rule out. Potentially you know having teams play in their home. Arenas and keep in mind back in january january back before the stanley cup final started january is when the next season is supposed to start as you can tell you know. The dates are all getting mixed up in my head. He said before the stanley cup. Final that how we start. The season is not necessarily indicative of how we might finish the season. So it's possible. The league starts in these kind of modified bubbles just to kind of get the season up on its feet and then if you know the vaccine comes you know the middle of the year towards the end of the year maybe have been able to go back to home arenas so you know this might just be an idea to start the season but they might not be beholden to it for the entire regular season the realignment part of this which is the second aspect that touched on This makes sense in terms of the all canadian division aspect because the us canyon border is still closed to non essential travel. So if you're talking about teams you know now going just wants to the bubble and then once out of the bubble but potentially back and forth a couple of times then that really makes it a non starter for canadian teams ten of go back and forth across the border that easily. And so if you're going to break it down by division it would make it really hard for division like the nice the pacific division of function. Because you've got multiple canadian teams that knocks the flames. The oilers that would potentially have to go back and forth in the hat just seems like too much logistical hassle. At this point so it makes more sense to have one canadian bubble where all the canadian teams can go and play each other not have to worry about border issues and then split the remaining twenty four. us teams in the three other. Different bubbles We confirm that they're gonna look to four hubs but that seems like the most likely outcome here and in that case you know the nights are probably gonna partner up with the remaining pacific division teams. That are us. Based let's the coyotes the canes the sharks would figure they're gonna get some extra central teams as well joining them in so colorado seems like a slam dunk to potentially be with the nights in this scenario..

"Now Alex Betray Angelo certainly. Isn't going to be a guy that really disrupts the locker room is going to be. Dragging guys down there. He was a captain in Saint Louis won a Stanley Cup as a captain. So certainly his leadership pedigrees. Pretty unquestionable at this point. But it is gonNA. Be Different in there and I guess how do you feel about the mix that they have in the locker room right now dave and weather. That's going to ultimately affect things because we even even talked about the fact that. There's another guy from the inaugural season and Marc Andre Fleury who is still with the team. But certainly I would expect has a little bit of a different role in their moving forward. Yeah. So like I'm going through and I'm counting. The original Golden Knights Cetera meaning I got. Carry a flurry, William Carlson marches. So brayden mcnabb. Tamasha sick. Riley Smith SHAEF Theodore Alex Talk. So, that's nine. And it's weird because it it it seems like all. That's still a lot and yet. You know you see the turnover and I guess. We'll we'll get to this question next. This whole issue of chemistry is the biggest question mark for me because everything looks good on paper they've got goaltending they've upgraded on the Blue Line and They can score you know. They can score enough upfront maybe make up for a little bit more on the Blue Line through their system in the way that the. Defenseman jump into the play, and now that you've got potential back there, who's you know amid teens goal score a potential forty to fifty point producer. You can get enough offense all of that sort of stuff it all looks good on paper. Right, the way that this is all going to be mixed together. Feels very combustible to me. You've got one you've got to go to ration- where. Both guys have said they want to be a starter and Marc Andre. Fleury gives an interview to the French paper in Montreal and basically says, he understands that he's going to be the backup and all that source that. But what if he's playing really well What if lender may be struggles a little bit what if Leonard Mamie needs like a week where he gets hurt or something like that, and flurry comes in and plays really well. Then what happens because Leonard is clearly the starter kind of tweets. Are we GONNA SEE ADOPT POINT You know and then there's also an element to of. Just, you know. I, you know I don't want to put too much into this in I'm going to spoil a little bit of the. We're GONNA, talk about the captain here by you know, you've got some different alpha's in the locker room. Now that first year was kind of like you know Marc Andre Fleury was sort of the the fun of guy in James Neal was a little bit of the Alpha Kinda you know keep everybody in line the accountability and all that sort of stuff, and now you've got mark stone who seemed to kind of be emerging as that you've got Alex. You've got different elements that are that are involved in the locker room now and you don't have..

"I mean okay. The it's not easy obviously to trademark Andre. Because of the salary because of all these other things we've heard. In the last couple of days. Team different things of you know they're trying to give you a second or whatever. For this than than we've heard it's gotta be two seconds and then we heard they're looking for you know teams are looking for a I and it's got to be like thirty three percent retention like there's been so many just. You know I don't want to call them land, but just rumors or whatever out there swirling about what teams are asking for what it's GonNa take. I guess for more country flurry. Traded but You know we talked about salary cap era two, point eight million. If if you're I mean clearly have Robin Lehner and they're going to. Probably try to find the serviceable backup if you're able to trademark Andre Flurry. Then you're fine. You make your way on the salary cap and you don't have to worry about anything and you know maybe you can add a little bit on the fringes but we keep hearing about these big swings and we keep hearing about them trying to clear money do all these other things and not. Tendering the cousins and all you know all of that, and so it just makes me think behind the scenes but they're still trying to be aggressive. They're trying to do all of the things to clear rooms go after with if he's available or and this is the other thing too that was floated by I don't remember which insider but. You know. The Tampa Bay lightning apparently had said that four players were untouchable Victor Hedman Andrei Vasilevskiy, Brian Point, and Kita off the obvious emission from that is Steven Stamkos. And Again, the Golden Knights of popped up potentially in connection with him obviously, that would be a trade. That would be a major blockbuster move you know. I think basically what I'm kind of wearing kind of going with all this is if the nights are going to do those types of things. That behind the scenes right now. They're working the phone lines in. They're trying to clear out flurry and they're probably trying to clear out another contract as well whether that's stazzone. Whether that's you know a defenseman. Another defensemen and and you know Martinez in his salary goes meet Schmitz name has been floated out there and the you know in the trade rumor world. So any number of things could happen, but clearly I think. The fundamental thing that the Golden Knights or training to do is clear room on their roster and on their salary cap to go after somebody, who's a big ticket item because otherwise you know they're they're close to that to that ceiling and I don't think it would be that hard for them to not. You know two point eight million out here there. But that just doesn't seem like what they're trying to do. They're trying to knock out whole salary so that they can make some major trains, major signings, whatever it might be to to upgrade team Natalie really interesting to see what they're ultimately do because. You know there's no..

We will go over some more details then others but to give you guys a quick recap on day one, the next took center slash left-wing. Brennan Brisson with twenty ninth overall pick. Sound is a freshman at Michigan actually has draft party at the big house. Their football. Stadium. And you might have heard his name before and that's because his dad papper on is basically one of the true power brokers in the NHL. So that was the guy they took on day one day two, which is today the knights their offense advancement cormier out of the Quebec junior hockey league at sixty eight. The nights then had ninety one, which was also a third round pick they actually kind in their pre draft strategy meetings discussed trading back from that pick in order to a kind of mid round pick but they actually valued speedy left-wing Jackson Holland from Saint Thomas Academy which is a Middle Minnesota, high school so highly that they just stayed put. "Talks about off season hockey because that is where the Golden Knights Arnelle after losing the Western Conference Lionel four one to the Dallas Stars I go to one of Your Review Journal. Golden. Dates beat writers on the other line with me is my colleague Dave Shane Dave. Of the first few days of the off season treating you. Not Too bad but I do feel like we. Need to buckle up the seat belt here for the next few weeks because it could be a little bit of a bumpy ride for everybody will see yeah, it's GonNa be a bumpy ride and it's GonNa be a fast ride because some of these dates are coming up real quick before we can get into previewing be Golden Knights offseason, which of course is what this entire episode is going to be about limit quick. Tell everyone that big old niche podcast is presented by Pepsi indeed, and a favor shot drink a favor dot com also please check out all are written work at review journal Dot Com just because season stops doesn't mean our content does which, of course, why were recording? An offseason podcast here today on Thursday September seventeenth also. You can read reviews of scribe it everyday to podcast due to this podcast. It would be very much appreciated. We sincerely thank all of you that have been listening to us. So the past two seasons now since we started this show and we're excited about. What. All this off season is going to bring in terms of talking points. But if you guys could like, I said, reveries described that would very much help us continue to grow as we head into year three. So I mentioned that a lot of these offseason dates are coming up. The NHL DRAFT IS GONNA be October sixth and seventh. So a little bit more than two weeks away as we're recording this, the nights are going to pick either twenty eighth or twenty ninth in the first round depending on how the Eastern Conference final shakes out. As of this recording, they are still playing it is three to Tampa Bay lightning heading into game six, and then a two days left. The draft is over free agency will begin on October ninth and then. After that, we don't really know what's going to happen the original key dates that the NHL sent out were a November seventeenth start to training camps in a December I start to next season but it really. Doesn't seem like those dates are going to end up. Happening as they were anticipated to I, mean even center Paul stazzone said yesterday in his kind of end of season media availability with us zoom that you know if he was vetting man, he would bet on the NHL not starting on December I just so much logistically in it's GonNa have to get worked out once the remaining a three teams at this point, leave the bubble. More health and safety protocols are GONNA have to get hashed out. Teams are going to figure out how many fans are comfortable with. In their buildings, there's just a lot going on. So we'll see ultimately when the Golden Knights will play again. But before we get to that point, there is a lot on the plate of general manager Kelly mccrimon in President Hockey Operations George mcphee they've got so much to go through the number. One decision that they have to make is, of course what they're going to do. With their goaltending situation, this is, of course, a topic is going to dominate a lot of this show and a lot of future shows because it's the number. One thing that the Golden Knights have to be concerned about this off season mckerman on his zoom call yesterday. His hand too much. As to what the team was. GonNa do a goaltender but he did say that it was gonna be the team's first priority to figure out which makes a lot of sense. The Nice actually might not be able to do very much until they kind of figure out their goalie situation as we talked about previously, there was a report now almost a week. Ago. From fourth period that Robin Leonard and the nights basically have already agreed to a five year twenty, five, million dollar extension Leonard denied that report or criminal yesterday said Hey. We don't discuss contracts until they're down. So we have no confirmation as to whether that contract is actually going to come to fruition, but if that is going to be what the nights. Are ultimately going to agree to because he is a pending unrestricted free agents. So if they get to October ninth without a deal winner is going to hit the open market that basically five million dollar our annual value would eat up all of the nights remaining cap spaces off-season reminder that the salary cap is going to be flat this year because. Of the riders pandemic, and the fact that teams have lost a lot of revenue by not having fans in the building for the end of the regular season, and of course, the playoffs. So the nights staring up five point, two, million dollars space right now obviously, the five five dollar contract being added to the books would wipe out basically all of it. And it would mean the team would not be able to resign restricted free agents chandler. Stevenson and cousins even if they wanted to without doing some sort of extra maneuvering. Kind of their options to tackle the goalie situation. If indeed, they ended up resigning Leonard who was of course, their primary starter, this entire postseason including four of five games in the western conference. Final before we do that, I want to look back at how we got to this point one more time because David that was really interesting that both the coach feet criminal on their zoom calls talked at length about the decision to have Leonard be that primary guy in the postseason in how that came to be. I'm curious what your thoughts were on what they said, and just the fact that they really felt the need to. Come out and address it defend that decision I just thought that was an interesting. Topic to spend a lot of time on kind of rehashing. Hey, this is what we are thinking when we did this and we WanNa make sure everyone understands that heading into the offseason get pizza bar almost caught got off the hook without Hamas like the last question that he got before they ended the. Does zoom call with him was about the goaltenders and he kind of made a comment about like. All right. Well, you know since you brought it up, let's talk about it and and like you said, he went into into depth about his decision in kind of the thought process behind it a little more than just you know the guy who gave us the best chance to win that being said, a lot of what he explained in I. Guess Maybe what I thought you know maybe not so much interesting but. He just painted a picture of it clearly being performance-based. That he went into. Training Camp Point or two point Oh and and kind of. The. Expecting that all things being equal. Marc. Andre Fleury Woods you get the first crack at it. Based on what he's done for the franchise he pete, the board flat out said that what it came down to was he said Robin. Leonard was at an elite level in Marc Andre. Fleury. was at a very good level and he said that about their play in the handful of games, each of them got after the trade before the pause. During, training camp and then you know during the Round Robin and impeachable mine he just felt robin liner was either one the better goaltender or to was just playing better based on you know maybe Mark Andre Fleury's injury that.

"So, there's the knights coach with some of his thoughts on the game. Now, let's hear from nights. Right wing Riley Smith. Timely. Goals on. Tight series I think. Probably played them for ninety percent of it but. This court time goals in. Cost US we weren't scoring they were. After goals in front of our net, we weren't doing that. Riley Smith Kinda summing the salaries up there a day of ultimately I guess, just what do we make of this western conference final this year a lot of close games and ultimately the aggregate score when you kind of take a step back. was only nine, two, eight stars. The Stars outscore the nights by just one goal in this series. But yet it was over in five games the night scored. Three goals in game two, the one game they one of this series and in five goals in the other four. So I guess what is your overall assessment or the best one? You can kind of come up with still. On the night of this game. Yeah I mean I think he laid out pretty well, just how close? The series was and all those numbers show that I think you know would would stands out from unity. They go a little bit hand in hand is at the key moments. In these series, the stars executed they may plays whether it was killing a penalty whether it was scoring goal when they needed to to get you back in the game. Answering nights goal or getting a one nothing lead early in the in game one being able to write just every kind of key moment and there weren't a lot of them in this series because like we've talked about, it was kind of a you know to use the phrase alot events series of wasn't a lot of back and forth high-octane chances either way in in every single time. That's the. Execution kind of came into is there was a key moment. The stars seem to to come through in the to their missed the net or or took a penalty the wrong time or just you know didn't get a safe like every little tiny thing seem to to bite them in the in the body I a little bit and then to. Is just the stars top players especially once they were reunited once bonus put that first line to get other Reggie Love Sagan Ben. The Starr's top players came through when they needed into and the Golden. Knights top players didn't and you know it's harsh. It's being critical and you know I'm sure there's fans that in. are going to say, well, the blame should be here. The blame should be there and it's you know. There's plenty to go around and it's it's not like I'm assigning blame say but. Numbers are numbers and like the. talked about like Riley Smith, we just heard from him and and the offense just wasn't enough. Credit doubtless. But that's ultimately you know what? It came down to the stars stars. Scored win win. They needed to in the night stars did. Yeah I mean I think Jamie. Ben. The stars captain is if there is theoretically a western conference final MVP I think he would have won IT A. As he probably would have wanted among skaters I think Anton Khudobin. The stars goaltender would have actually went with a bullet now that I'm kind of thinking out loud here. But Jamie Ben in terms of skaters was by far the best skater in this series and I thought that line was excellent wants rick bowness reunited them. They were just it seemed like on the ice all the time as the stars were pushing for the tying goal late in the third period and for the most part of their really successful at generating chances against the Knights on one thing that stuck out to me in the post game. Press conference that we both attended theism I. Think this was somewhat just being courteous but bore mentioned that in terms of the offense he was sure there were some things he could have done differently but I mean I'm curious as you know the two of us who are impartial looking at this from afar literally because we watch this marked homes in the Las Vegas Valley as opposed to in Edmonton I mean is there something that you think that bore is going to look back in this series and be kicking himself for I mean I think? The big one that you kind of had briefly mentioned earlier of this series was a lot of low event hockey. I mean, ultimately when the knights coach go back in poor over the tape, are they gonNa may be regret not trying to open this up more or is this just a case of as he also kind of talked about where you know maybe the ideas were fine but just the execution was not there compared to what the stars were able to do. So I think it's easy for us to say I think it's you know for us to say they should have opened up and and all those sorts of things it is easier said than done and I tried to explain. Maybe it was my dad or somebody I. Don't remember, but I made a comparison of like. The AIDS Hermit and somebody's GonNa play Wisconsin and I don't care if they average eighty nine points or something like that. They're gonNA play Wisconsin you know what? The game's going to be in the fifties or sixties because the slow team just always kind of dictates that and it's a little bit sort of the same in hockey like you can't just. You can't open a team up and make them come out of their defensive shell really without kind of bathing them out of it you almost have to give up chances on purpose. E after like. You know try to get them to to take the rush and rely on your goal tender and rely on Robin. Leonard to a couple of SEI's and and use your skill and go the other way and. I feel like that game would have sued them a little bit better in terms of like, Max? Patch. Already maybe would have been a little more comfortable and maybe would have scored. A goal in his last game Don's instead of goosing. Maybe it suits. William. Carlson a little better. Maybe they just get a couple goals and they stopped thinking about it at that point I i. You know it's hard to say what could a coach do because he did juggle lines and you know it's not like they've got you know somebody in the black aces that that's that tore up the AHL ing it's like well. Why didn't you put this guy in I mean would have been like we talked about Peyton crabs if you're looking for an offensive spark or something, and that's a big ask for nineteen year olds to make his NHL debut in a situation like that. So you know I I I don't blame I guess pizza bore in that regard I. Like you said I think he's Falling on the sword a little bit Pun intended But..

"The Las Vegas Review, Journal Talks About playoff hockey one last time because we are discussing the end of the Western Conference final and thus the end of the Golden Knights season I have been on View Review Journal Golden Knights beat writers on the other line is my colleague Dave Shane Dave I feel like I'm almost in a state of shell shock a little bit right now I wasn't sure a lot of tonight if the topics that we're going to end up addressing are the topics that we would be addressing in this posting podcasts I mean, how are you feel? Coming into this. Will be divorced. He didn't even have A. Post game speech prepared in case they lost. So I think nobody was really ready for cutting came as a shock and mean, you know you think back and more than a year ago. They were reporting for training camp and you know you go through everything that we've gone through in two, thousand, nine, hundred, twenty in the pause and. The way of the summer in and get to this point haven't bandits. It's just yeah it does feel like. A little bit of having really processed at all I guess it's GonNa take a little bit I. Think can only imagine for the players in for for the staff and for the team. Right absolutely for all those guys the basically sacrificed a lot to go up into that bubble in Edmonton and try to win the Stanley Cup. Of course, they will now not do that because the Golden Knights season is over after a three two overtime loss in game five against the Western Conference. Final Against The Dallas. Stars. The Stars win the series four to one before we dive deep into the game a quick reminder that eagled news. PODCAST is sponsored by the Decastro Verde Law. Group. Getting into the game, the knights took to nothing lead fifteen seconds into third period. But Stars Captain Jamie Ben brought his team back within one and then a rookie kind of playoff scoring sensation joke round the scored a powerplay goal to tie things up with three forty seven left in the third period. Then things wouldn't overtime in two fifteen into the extra session Zach White Cloud got. Called for kind of for him in unfortunate delay of game penalty, the PUCK deflected office stick in out of play. Now, by the letter of the rule book, that is a delay of game penalty. If the PUCK goes off a defensive player Stich in the defensive. Zone that is delay of game. Of course, that penalty is in the rule book to prevent a defensive player from. Kind of flipping the puck out of the defensive zone kind of trying to get a cheap whistle there. In case, things aren't going their way when they're on defense that was obviously not the case with white cloud. But by the letter of the rule book, you had to go to the penalty box and the stars and specifically Dennis, Korean enough took full advantage. He scored the star second power play goal of the game to send them off to the Stanley Cup final the knights who started this season eleven into in a their first. Thirteen games finished two in six in their last eight playoff games before we give you our thoughts on the game. Let's hear from some people directly involved I up. "Game one tonight online checkout, and of course, we will have multiple stories up every single day basically until the nights postseason run ends also reminder to rave reviews subscribe. Whatever you podcast, we do to this one We hope you guys like what we do and we have some hopefully exciting news for you guys about what we're GonNa try to do the rest of the post season as well. What we're actually trying to do is we're GONNA try to do these podcast after every game from now on we'll probably keep a little bit shorter. We're going GONNA try to recap a these games really quickly guys because obviously these are the most important games of the Golden Knights season and whether they play three more games or thirteen, we WANNA make sure that we give you guys some pretty quick analysis on all of them. So you know make sure. You're checking your podcast feed every night after the Golden Knights wrap up because hopefully by the time we're done of the editing and turning our stories you guys will have fresh audio content to listen to So we're going to spend a lot of the time on this episode recapping Game One of that star series and kind of breaking down the stars to since we haven't had time to do kind of a preview podcast for you guys. But I WANNA wrap up the Vancouver series a day. The last time we chatted on this podcast basically neither said, we were that worried after the Golden Knights last game five and it's hers out there actually was a reason to be worried and. was. Fatter Denko the connects rookie goaltender was just incredible down the stretch. He made ninety eight consecutive saved. One point he shut out the night's game six he shut them out Romo's fifty, four minutes in a really tight really tense game seven. The Dominated on the shot clock in shot attempts scoring chances in basically anything. That can be tracked in a hockey game. The Knights had a commanding lead in except the scoreboard. For most of those last two games We're GONNA talk about a lot of storylines that emerge from game six in game seven because they can relate to what we saw in game. One of the Western, conference. final. Against The Dallas Stars. But first day of I. WanNa Start With this House surprised impressed whatever you WANNA put on. It were you that the unites had a match penalty in game seven against economics and actually killed it off we'll all say this they go on to win the Stanley Cup. That will be the most twenty twenty. You know laughing your face hockey gods moment of So fitting, you know of all things if EP used the term, each team hazards adversity if that's the university in the Hump that they had to get over once it was presented. To them and they go on to win this thing. I. Wouldn't it? So fitting wouldn't it be? It would be absolutely in incredibly a fitting I mean overall Wool was like from your vantage point watching. Game Six especially, that game seven.

"Yeah well let's talk about a piece of business. That mckerman did yesterday. There was an announcement from the Golden Knights that one of their top prospects that they probably kind of consensus top three prospect organization. Jack Dugan is going to turn pro. He was a sophomore at Providence. This last season and he led the NC Double A. and scoring with fifty two points. He was one of ten hobey Baker finalists. The ultimately did make the cut for the top three He's a twenty one year old right wing got a good frame. Good skills excellent passer. Not Quite the best. Finisher is not quite like a pure goal scorer and he's still needs cleanup kind of defensive game as well but I think you could say about a twenty one year old forwards and he should ended up being a really good middle six wing or at least that's kind of the hopeful projection of him. What is interesting of course is that the announcement wasn't Jack. Do Gain has signed a contract with the Golden Knights. It's just he has agreed to join the Knights Organization Dave wrote about this yesterday. What can you kind of? Tell us about the the terms with which he's agreed to the nights on how he's turning pro basically it depends on if the season resumes. Or if he's got to wait until twenty twenty one Different scenarios kind of involved in that That you know depending on him maybe being able to burn the first year the thing is right now the NHL after it paused for the corona virus on March twelfth prohibited teams from signing players to contracts. That are for the nineteen twenty season. So what you're seeing in. What you've seen in Jack Dugan is kind of in the same situation as other college players and other guys who have necessarily signed a contract. They've agreed to the terms. We've seen some guys that have signed and usually the difference is those guys that are probably clearly projected to go straight to the aid. Shell you know. Maybe they're coming out of juniors and things like that they're younger or Jack. Dougans twenty two. He's closer to the NHL. The law is guys in in. If he's able to burn that first year on his entry level contract and then play next season after that he would be a restricted free agent. Data is kind of the ideal scenario for the player. We've seen that with different guys It's not the exact same situation because Jimi show was a free agent. Anzac white cloud one game to burn that first year entry level contract. Same thing that potentially Jack Dude and could you the. Nhl allows him right now. He's not allowed to do that. So that's kind of the hold up and that's why he didn't like you said Ben Quote Unquote sign his contract and he's agreed to terms and then once everything gets settled in that regard and he stays how everything shakes out if he's able to play if the NHL permits it or not then he'll actually put his signature on the peace paper. Yeah will you mentioned kind of their that. He might not be. You know that far off Adam. You got a chance to watch Jack Dugan in development camp last year what kind of impact or role do we see him? Having I guess in the Near and long term is this guy that's first shirt ticketed for the PTO quote Unquote Silver Knights. Which we're going to talk about that whole situation in a second but or is there a chance that he's going to compete for an NHL roster spot a good question? I think it's the what the the nights will be thinking about with him. I think it's such a weird time to you. Know exactly. When do they start? How do they play things out? Do we jump right into the next season. Where a lot of guys are. Because I think it's GonNa be really interesting off season to see when guys come back and how ready they are to jump right into to hockey. I mean the way the season ended like do we jump into apply off and then dies have a somewhat normal off season very short off season. Like where where guys kind of standing in in terms of being ready to play. I think that's going to determine a lot of where guys end up. I liked what he looked like as a player I think he he's a guy that has certainly nhl ability right now But I do think. There's somebody unanswered questions into this. I mostly want to get your take on where he is in his development. Just like kind of person you guys were able to talk to them for a while on our podcast not too long ago. Where did you feel? He was just like an emotional ready or the the readiness as a as a person to jump into the Joe yet. People can check out that episode. It was about a ten minute chat with Dugan in January when he was here for the Fortress Invitation College Tournament. He scored the winning goal in the shootout there. By the way it was kind of a perfect scenario for him to Kinda shine in his future home rank or at least what he hopes is his future home rank. You know from what we were able to gather and a pretty limited interaction with him and I can toss Dave after I mean. He seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders for a young kid. I mean he was only a fifth round pick which we haven't mentioned yet but he was a fifth round pick in the nights I ever draft class. So He's not a guy that had a lot given to him. He wasn't necessarily ticketed to be college. Hockey's leading score to be kind of a guy that the knights were coveting pretty hard in terms of wanting to bring into the nation the season so I think that Kinda shows through how he plays and his attitude of he knows he has to keep getting better. He knows he has a lot of areas that needs to work on in his game and he's willing to put in the time to make those improvements in so I think you know that attitude should serve him pretty well when he gets the pros. What do you think Dave I mean? I think it's easy to say this. In retrospect and look back on it but it felt like when we were having our conversation with him and kind of that whole weekend that him turning pro was pretty inevitable all things you know being equal and obviously you know. The situation changed in at some point. I'm GonNa talk to him this week. I can plug that a little bit and folks can read about that and maybe have a little bit more insight into his decision by. I think he's he knew he was close to being pro ready after this season regardless. I think he wanted to try to make another run for the frozen for. I think he you know wanted to see if he could win Hobey Baker. Some of the voting with the hobey Baker is a little funky socks. That aren't similiarity really with college. Hockey and things like that. You know the guy who is the leading score isn't automatically necessarily the guy who gets all the votes some of its team stuff in in career wise in in all sorts of things like that. There's a lot that goes into it in Jack Dugan. Clearly you know performed at that level the other side of that is he was an older college player. He's somebody that played juniors for year after he was drafted he'd actually been passed over in the draft for year he so he was drafted in the second year of eligibility then played juniors and then played college hockey so he's further along in terms of maturity. Adam and kind of development. He's he's kind of been through it. He's he's ready to go out regardless you know. He's an articulate kid bang liking talked about. He's got a chip on his shoulder. And I'm interested to see kind of how the Hobey Baker Snub I guess you could say him being finalised but not one of the the hobey hat trick. Which is the top three for that award whether he carries that into two pro hockey That's something that maybe he can use his a motivation. Nothing wrong with that. If it is Dugan will have at least a couple of places he can go when he starts per hockey but one of them will not be Chicago because the Chicago. Wolves era at least in relationship to the Golden Knights is officially over. The Asia canceled at season Monday. Which ultimately was expected because that league is just even more gate driven than the NHL. So coming back without fans didn't really make much sense but the wolves or in their last year with the gold nights because of course the nights are trying to move. Nhl team here locally in the Las Vegas Valley ultimately to Henderson but they WANNA play in Orleans arena for a little bit of the walls. Wish mentioned Warren. Line to make the playoffs this year. So it's a bummer. For All the players on that team who won't get a chance to win the western conference again. Factually a really bad start but then coach Rocky Thompson adjusted and got them to turn it around a little bit but ultimately I think this kind of a bummer of a way for that relationship to end right dave. Yeah a little bit. I mean think everybody saw coming just in terms of you know once they bought the San Antonio is it was obvious that the partnership was going to dissolve. You know you'd like to see like everybody else. Maybe how you know. Let them have one more run. You know see if they. Can you know go somewhere in the playoffs? You never know when you're in anybody can win it but I you know. I think I'M NOT GONNA get too stunned to myrtle about it because I think everybody kind of saw it coming The wolves as an organization will probably Cup with Carolina Hurricanes. There'll be fine though. Continue to go on and the players that played in Chicago will play here and everything will continue on so in that regard. You know it's not like the franchise folded its unlike Chicago lost. Its hockey team. I mean I guess if anybody's GonNa feel sorry for anybody in that regard that still sorry for San Antonio because they actually did lose their hockey team in here but yeah I mean. It's not the way anybody wants their season to end. It's not the way anybody wants a partnership the end with you know something kind of standing in the way I guess of of completing the season the way that you normally would but you know everybody's kind of in the same boat right now with will you know with the pandemic and I think everybody's kind of understanding in that regard the you know you move on. It was a two plus years. They made a a call cup final. They won two division titles so certainly. It was a successful relationship for the time that it lasted. We should also mention that just because the season is over it doesn't mean all the players seasons are over either. The Toronto Maple leafs have already mentioned that they're gonNA have select players from their age club. The Toronto marlies around whatever the restart happens just in case of injury you know potentially a player getting code. Nineteen what have you. I mean. That's always common around playoff time. You have quote Unquote Black Aces. Stick around just in case of an emergency. So I assume you'd see a lot of the nights kind of young prospects that are with the wolves would also come back and be with the NHL team if a restart words. You happen of one. Last topic I want to hit up with you guys before we get out of here are one of our designers at the Review Journal. John Horn Berg. Had a really really cool idea. He loves hockey about the nights and he executed this really cool project from a couple of days ago. It's called never were nights and basically goes through the eleven players the team selected in the expansion draft. That never actually got to play for the team. There was a lot of kind of side the nights made to take is. They really didn't have any intention of putting on their roster and then they just kind of ended up flipping them right after so if people want to check this out and remember the names of all these characters it's at review journal Dot Com. I really encourage taking a look at it but I want to go through and talk about our favorite never were nights and all star because for me..

"Or two Golden Knights be reporters. I am live in Nashville where the Golden Knights are about to play the Nashville predators. The day before Thanksgiving we have so much get into today. I want to remind you that big old bench podcasts is presented by SDN towards mobile from station casinos. But I also WANNA welcome in my partner in crime. My Buddy on the beat Shane. Who was back in Las Vegas? They've how's it going awesome. I mean my Apga's like I promised I would be. We are bright and early on Tuesday. I'm wearing my Wisconsin hat just to rub it in a little bit so oh all set all set. Well there you go. I WANNA be more mad at Dave about that Wisconsin. Thanks I of course with the Minnesota and we have a big rivalry game this week for the big ten. Then what title. But he is pajamas. Because I made him get up early to do the podcast. 'CAUSE I am on central time right now as are the Golden Knights and we have so much to get into with. What's going on with team right now? I just reminded follow all our coverage at review journal Dot Com and check out this podcast every Wednesday. We try to give it to you The Dave I watched the team in Dallas last night I lost four to two. We're recording on Tuesday morning. The ninth do not appear to be good at the hockey right now. Despite it being there's charged do so and despite there being expectation that they would be good at it it just seems like lift team is bill in a funk absolutely three in a row that they've lost With that game last night since that's and basically we last talked great. I mean it last week we were like well. Maybe it's turning the corner and then all of a sudden which is the way the seasons seems to have gone. It's like one step forward two steps back. I don't know I'm kind of curious what you thought about last night. I had some some. Maybe not some usual takeaways. I guess from it But maybe just what were your thoughts off the off the bat. Yeah so the next lost their third straight last night there oh two and won their last three and oh two. One loss talked Lots or or two under the sharks and overtime then four to the New Orleans in four to to the Dallas Stars last night which is really weird game against the stars. You knew it'd be tough for the Golden Age the shark or the stars of the sixties me or company. When he just red hot there were thirteen? One one in their last fifteen or on. Eleven game point streak and it was a weird game or the night didn't come out well in the first first period. I thought that they really thought came out. Well in the second period got a bunch of power play. Do anything with them. And of course it didn't really cut right into their lead The main takeaways I had as one. The stars had a third goal in the second period. That just seem to be a backbreaker for the ninth The nights were down to nothing. They fought back to get it to chew on by being really bad on the power play all of a sudden. Despite the fact that is dominated the second period period stars got a late goal to keep the margin at two heading the third and that last penalty kill really seemed to just deflate the nights. It's got a late power play. In the third period. They score to go up for two nights went from kind of being in the game at theme for most third period expulsed out and he scored early two to three to just out. They were on and then made smit. I thought was really interesting. He said if we about penalty kill. I think we end up winning the game. Those I was surprised to hear the night despite kind of being on the road I get. It's a really good team. Had still a taunt on a confident on their bench but just that penalty will just suck out of all the air out of the balloon so those those are all points in an and I think it's it's easy to look at the power play and yeah like that for me. Played a huge role in that in that game and the penalty kill specialty. Just just kind of everything this was. This was my issue with that game. The second goal so the second goal was Lyndal basically walking right down the slot but if you back up and just look at the whole thing like reefs crashing somebody at the Blue Line and Dallas goes the other way but it's a two one three like they're back and carry is the forward and he's like he's there he's back. It's not like they had the gave an odd man rush or anything carries kind of going through the neutral zone and he looks over his right shoulder. Basically lead to assess. Is there anybody that I need to pick up. Is there somebody on the back check that I need to get. And he saw that there was nobody there so he goes into the play and from there. What what I have an issue with is one? How does that pass? Get off. Get through you've got to on three. You outnumber number them and then secondly is the breakdown with Lindell. And I'm not sure where I guess. If you WANNA say the blame goes but if you you watched Hamas Tomas on backcheck at no point does he put his head down and just skate. Go Bust your butt to get back. He never does. He's just always kind of hosting and he never really gets there. And then Nate Schmidt kind of comes over late when lamp talks about effort in these guys in the I'll talk about effort and that's what you can control. That goal to me is just a major major major Asia. Red Flag. Yeah it certainly wasn't a good look after one. They got called out for their effort after the loss. The oilers back at home and we we can get more into that a little bit later and two. I mean George. Kinda spoke glowingly about the effort that he was seeing from the stars before the game. I mean he got asked you know. Do you need to see your team play with a little bit more fire against the stars and she called the stars of the most competitive team. She's seen senior season kind of implying. Like hey they don't have a ton of starring talent and certainly the talent they do have had necessarily played up to the season. He's like they work hard. They make the sacrifices you need to do to win Really solid defensively. And that's why they're good hockey team and we need to come out. But that same level of intensity or else we're going to get embarrassed and for the most part in the first period that she didn't seem that came out with the right level of intensity. I mean John. Merrill Cook a penalty twenty five seconds into the game I mean Mark Stone. Like raise the bluntly we didn't start the game on time. We didn't start the game when it was supposed to start and that's been an issue for the night all feeding it seemed like There's all these little things that get away from them whether it be slow start not picking up guys on the back. She gives you mentioned and you can't do that against other talented teams which be stars. Certainly are the oilers who are leading the Pacific Division. They are in Also this week the sharks probably are the sharks have now moved ahead of the gold in standings as of this recording because the sharks won in overtime last night shoot overtake the Golden Knights. Well we talk about all these things thing. We're now almost a third of the way through the season for the nights. So are we reaching a point where Kinda no longer small sample size had. This team just might not end up. Being what kind of people thought it would be. preseason and I shouldn't just say people I mean certainly us I mean. I think we both had high expectations for this team. But they do not look like that group right now. Yeah I mean I think it's still a tad early and it's going to be so cliche where you're going to hear this forever that the Saint Louis Blues were in last place in January and then went on to win the Stanley Cup. But it's true so in terms of the panic it's it's not even I haven't even eaten my Turkey for Thanksgiving so you know I don't know that we can completely just say you know all three your hands up at all seasons done. Let's start scout in the draft. And maybe they'll get it. You know Alexis offering air or something I I don't I don't think we go that direction but you know what's so right. Now they're eleven eleven and four ninth place in Western Conference. One one point out of that playoff earth like you said the the sharks. It's just just leapfrog them. I think one of my things as I as I watch this kind of continue on and we hear kind of the same things in and yet nobody's able to solve it when one of my things with this is this feels like a time when the twenty three captains sort of backfires fires on them it feels like they need somebody to step up and be and be the voice right now on this team and I don't I I don't know where that's GonNa come from. I don't know you know somebody like Derek. England seem to be the locker voice probably in the last couple of years right now. He's in in a rotation with John Maryland Nicole on the third pairing. I'd you know I don't know that he can really call somebody out for for not playing. Well a hold somebody accountable when when he's not necessarily playing his best hockey. It's it's a hard situation. I think they find themselves in in terms of that leadership in terms of somebody kind of grabbing hold of the rudder and steering the ship so to speak no I definitely agree with that and certainly Cheer Blue Point. I mean nothing can be necessarily ruled out at this point in the season and certainly the playoffs are still very much a possibility for these nights. And almost you know if you look look at some of the probably advanced metrics probability for the night just more of genders team as constructed. Do that much while they're there at this point and I guess we'll see but I mean the twenty three caps and things that you're mentioning the game that would very much concern me to that and is just the oilers. There's game where you have. You know the leaders of your division come into your building coming off a really bad law They got punked. By The Los Angeles kings things the oilers did before coming to t mobile arena and it just looked like the night did not get up for that game in the oilers were first on. Every loose puck returned every fifty fifty battle into eighty twenty battle their way like I mean they held the nights in the defensive zone or just minutes and minute minute that the time they were literally skating circles around the night and you could tell just how frustrated Glenn was after that game that his team didn't show up as yeah that definitely an instance where someone either the second or first or second intermission state over that locker would stay like. Hey we can do do this if we wanna you know. Carry ourselves with any cried as a team like we can't have another team come into our building and make us look like that. I think think to your point exactly where that kind of stuff comes into play. Yeah what was clear from the oilers game to me especially as just every time they have I I guess kind of one of those. Let's see how good we are. Let's let's see where we stock up a measuring stick game. They've fallen woefully short. I mean it's like one seven and two I don't know the exact playoff ordering and things now in the In the east. But I think they're one seven and two after the Dallas loss against his teams that currently hold playoff spots like they just haven't been good enough against the good teams. There's like this soccer saying like in England flat. I tracked bully. It just seems like that's what they've been. They they beat up on. You know kind of the little guys. And they've racked up points and then then they have a game like Detroit were were. That's like sitting on the table for them and they give two points away..
