"knicks stone" Discussed on The Book Junkie

"Brought to you by Brown gets read. This is a podcast where I bring on one of my friends and try to convince them to read a book that I really enjoyed. We talk about plot themes quotes, and how the story relates to us in real life, especially because routine majors I also interview authors who are making a big change in the world of young adult literature by writing about hot topics that are impacting the new generation. It's pretty much just a casual conversation all about books. Let's go into the episode. Today I am joined by Knicks Stone. She's the best selling author of Deer Martin odd out in clean get-away. She's also releasing a new book in September called Your Justice. She is a former cheerleader and graduate from SPELMAN, university. She loves writing and fever food is Bacon. I have the opportunity to talk to her. All about her book. Dear Martin in the background behind the story. I actually did a podcast episode with my friend Christian about Dear Martin in some really important issues that were encountered in the story. Miss Stone thanks for coming on the chat with me. Thank you for having me my dear. Okay so when I was reading about you and the birth of Deer Martin, I noticed that you have the concept for the book. After hearing about the shooting of seventeen year old Jordan Davis and I really love that you took initiative to write this book after seeing a problem in the world, so in what ways did writing this book influence? You personally not just your career. So the reason the Jordan Davis story impacted me so intensely because I have to African Americans sons. My older son was five months old windows. Davis was killed and it hit me in a place I hadn't been hit before because I didn't have children before so having a child who will grow up and we'll who, and who will be similar appearance to Jordan. Davis and to Michael Brown. Tamir Rice into all of these these. These black boys that have lost their lives. That's what made me want to dig into the book, and it has helped me to be more aware of my surroundings. Be More aware of how the world functions and also be more aware of my parts in this shared story that we're all living in how you know. My role is to write the stories that I think needs to be written, and hopefully with some kind of. Hopefully there's something in the stories that make people think a little bit harder. Yet can kind of relate to that because when I hear stories about that, I think my little brother who's also little black boy and when he gets older, he's GonNa look like all those other kids like you said about your son so i? Get concerned scared for him. I'm like I. Don't want you to grow up because I. Don't want something to happen to you or something to impact your future. Even take your life away from a simple mistake or somebody else's misconception. Yeah. I completely agree and I was reading the book and I noticed that Justice had kind of an internal battle with his personal relationship with white friends, in the fact that others who looked like them mistreated him so badly you know when he was arrested and they ripped his best friend away. What message would you give to Young African? American tour experiencing those emotions will the interesting thing about racism is that it's it's a systemic problem. Right like this is the problem that exists on a societal level and individuals obviously are affected by the way that we think about ourselves. The way that we think about other people is obviously shaped by the messages we get from society, but. And this is a big bite. It's important that we recognize each individual as an individual. I did have some problematic white friends when I was younger, and I was justice, like I, had that experience sitting in a classroom and hearing these things said around you that you know there's something wrong with there's. There's something not okay with what these people around you are saying, but you don't know how to speak up the thing that helped me the most. Most was coming to the realization. That like I. Get to be in charge of me. I get to be the person who decides who I'm going to be. What I'm GonNa do I'm going to stand for and what I'm not going to stand for, and I think that when kids in situations where you love your friends, but maybe your friends are saying things that highlight some problematic ways of thinking or or maybe wages. They are thinking at all. For me now what I would say, it's important to like. Talk to them about it. If friendship if your friendships are real, your friends should be receptive to hearing what you have to say into hearing about the ways that they hurt you and if they're not receptive to that, then they're probably not actually your friends. Is that make sense? Yes, because even in the book I was looking at the relationship between jared in manny in I was like manny should probably say something to jared. All other white friends who are saying comments that are aggressive towards his race in his people. You know yeah, yeah, but it's tricky like it is a tricky thing when you've been accepted by a group of. Of People for so long? There's a desire not want to upset that. However, even manny got to a breaking point. Right and I think as long as we recognize our own value. It's easier for us to stand up for ourselves for the people that we care about. Yes, because I understood manny's perspective, too, because he that's all he ever knew. That's what that's what he grew up with. You know the quote. Unquote preppy black boy and I think it was a really different take on young adult literature to see a black kid like many injustice. Go through real life struggles, but just the specifically because he found a way to. To confront it with peace, how did you come up with the idea for justice to write letters to Dr King Interestingly enough. There was a second. This is I won't say a second. This was like in a string. It was a pretty high number in the string of shootings, but there was a shooting that impacted me just as much as Jordan Davis, and that with the shooting of my own Brown in Ferguson Missouri, in response to that shooting, protests and marches broke out across the country, and it was really amazing to see people's kind of standing in solidarity against racism, but there was also a contingent of people who would quote. Quote Dr King in opposition to some of the protesting in the marching, which is a thing that like never made sense to me. I'm like no I'm pretty sure this is exactly the kind of thing Dr King. Not only would have stood for did stand for so after hearing. There's the mayor the mayor of my city. Actually at that point was his name was Christine read, and there was a day where we were supposed to do March and he got on the news, and he said all I ask is that you don't take the freeways. Dr King would never take a freeway and Dr King took a lot of freeways. So that it was like that line of thinking that made me want to examine contemporary events through the Lens of Dr King's teachings because it seems like any time. Something happens to a black person and people in the black community express any kind of anger over it. Other people white people, specifically especially white people in power. We're GONNA throw Dr. King says if like Dr King would have done things differently. He wouldn't be mad type thing and I don't agree with that, so that's why he ended up writing letters to Dr King because I really wanted to address this notion of Dr, King As. A pacifist quote unquote in the sense that like he would have. Just kind of taken would've thrown at him. I don't think that's true. Yeah, and I think it's also hypocritical for people to argue against the protesting with the words of a man who is quite arguably one of the most famous protesters in the world peacefully. Preach Baby. And justices name justice. It's pretty cool to me because the whole book is about justice for Black lives. So when I was reading the book at Keep Reminding Myself Pay, this is his actual name and the spelling was.

"Keys were not going to have confers your stay up here and wanted today's a week that was not going to happen. They know they're getting Stanton back. Probably on Tuesday. Aaron judge could be back this weekend, and Cornell is going to be in your lineup every day. So it's unfortunate for Frazier because he's probably sent his player. I did everything in my power a raked, I help the team win games why in the world of my going back down to AAA. I get that frustration. But you've got to be a professional about things and basically acting like a seventeen year old who saw his girlfriend break up with him. And he's like the lean all the pictures and he's on following anybody tied into the call friend friends all that tied into one. I mean it's just it seems like a very petty. Look, if indeed, it's not like some convenient Instagram, you know maintenance that's going on, on following the Yankees and following teammates. I mean that's that's stuff to take very, very tough to take and that's the world we live in. What all this social media all these people, my age and younger, telling you how they feel by who they on follow and what they believe. I'd ask you right now. Frazier point his last game as gangqi I put my money on. Yes. Let's put it off. We head to Greenwich, Connecticut. Marcus Jones, the fan, foul up Marcus. Hey doing today mortgage. What's up man, which I got two points. If you let me out, I want is. I mean now with Clint Frazier being sent down. I mean I agree with you one hundred percent. There's no way he's going to be wearing a Yankee uniform gap believe he's going to be trade bait. But the question is, who. Differ on who's going to say for you. I hear you. When you write Madison Mangano me out the last three years, he's been on a steady declining. There's you cannot you cannot compare him. The lender is a power guy does about ninety seven miles an hour Madison Bumgarner. He doesn't have the same rate and he gave up more hits per innings ERA. He'll come to the Yankees to think that he's going to have that twenty twelve or whatever you had the giants are winning success. It's not going to happen. It's not going to get the same thing. I don't know if he's going to be just there in Houston. But I could tell you is Bumgarner will be reinvigorated no matter where he ends up if it's with the if it's in Philadelphia, if it's with the Milwaukee Brewers, you will see Bumgarner pitch at a high level and everybody mentioned this number is like they're awful. He's basically average strikeout inning. He's got a one one seven whip he's kinda Levin quality starts, and he's done it. Three eight seventy array Marcus. Is he the same guy that he was in two thousand fourteen? Of course he's not to expect him to be that good. He's just outrageous. That's not fair. Nobody could expect that do I think Bumgarner would come here and give the Yankees, a massive boost considering a ready. He's thrown ninety three innings already. He's given. The giants who are bed baseball team eleven quality starts. He would absolutely positively help the New York Yankees. So I asked you, Marcus you not enough? Bumgarner we differ on Bumgarner who do you want maximum? As our case Marcus in a perfect world. Sure, is there is a more dominant pitcher sherzer is coming off years, where he won the Cy Young. I just can't tell you with certainty right now that max shurer is going to be available, if you tell me right now, Marcus, he's available and the Yankees can be in on them if the price is not the moon the stores and every everything combined into one, then yeah, let's talk three for max Scherzer. I'm not gonna disagree with you there. But it sure is not getting dealt, and let's sit and say, we are going to blame this year's ineptitude on our management. We're gonna blame it on Davy Martinez, and we're going to run it back next year. Then you're going to argue that Bumgarner is not the top pitcher available. No, no, no, no. Who would it be? Right now, if you let me get onto the you're gonna you're gonna have to Hamry for this, but that's fine. Because I got gotta get it out there. What do you think about the Yankees in off season trading Aaron judge person fiscal lender because judge had been known? Mark is third certain guys, you don't mess with you gonna tell me Aaron judge when you're already loaded in the infield listen. I like when doors tremendous player, he got DD their who should be resigned. He's the ranking since he came off the you got waiver Torres is going to be back in the all star game. You got TJ LeMay. You got your shell. I haven't even mentioned McKellen do our who is the rural rookie of the year last year, and you're gonna add infielder. I like window. But please stuff with that. We went through that last year with many McDonnell. And I like indoors appoint a modem Machado for what it's worth. But police can the Yankees worry about trying to Eddie pitcher to beat these than Astros to beat the Tampa Bay rays for this division, talking about Francisco? Indoor give me a break. Let's say to mount Holly, New Jersey. I could pow CJ. He's up next. He's on a foul CJ. Talk about what would. I feel. Is that? Everything else. But you know what the Martha, too? The fate of value. Value CNN agree with that CJ for this. I think his performance in the big leagues has kinda showed everybody in the sport. What he's capable of doing offensively. And if I were a team and it Frazier, let's say hits like Gorbach for the next two weeks. I would take it as a guy who is soaking. I would take it as a guy who just maybe needs that change scenery. I think the bigger concern CJ if I were a team if I were the San Francisco Giants, if I were to Toronto Blue Jays if I were the New York Mets, I'll throw them in there, if indeed they're going to put Zack Wheeler on the open market. The way Frazier has been so combative with members of the media, the juvenile behavior now on social media on following teammates. He strikes me as one of those guys that marches to the beat of his own drum, any show, new instances of his lack of maturity, there's no denying. The fact CJ that this guy. A tremendous hitting talent. I think he will be a very good big-league cater. I just wonder if he's going to mature and he's going to grow up to a point where he could be a leader on a franchise or is he going to be one of these guys that, you know, was doing his own thing? He's doing him at the plate, but ultimately is going to wear out his welcome no matter where he may be. Really? You think? Here. Feature down and you want to utilize that the age call next year. Maybe it's in dual harm maybe for a little bit. Maybe it's judge may be Stanton. It's like the mix and match game. You're going to do with Gary Sanchez every now and again, CJ. You can walk in and Cornell Sione in that spot because you can flip flop him with void. But when you think about this outfield now as a whole wants Stanton and judge come back, they're going to put the outfield that ton. And if you just thinking about the puzzle pieces that Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman, and trying to put together here, it's very hard to make a case that would be bats, and it would be playing time for friends. You can't do it. With straight. I totally. The. James. Expect to have a high. That would. That's why. Now. The future. Listen, I saw this on Twitter when the trade went down and it blew my mind, anybody who roots for the Knicks who covers the New York Knicks who talks about the New York Knicks. That would have the data to say. How dare the New York Knicks for not making his trade. I mean wake up and smell the coffee, would you please? Because look at what the Lakers have number one CJ hit on it. They have somebody by the name of LeBron's. So LeBron there you have this win now window so you can approach things in that matter. True, you had been picking high in the lottery for the last couple of years. At correct me if I'm wrong CJ the Knicks don't have a Brandon Ingram. The Knicks stone have a Lonzo ball. The Knicks could never million years offer the amount of first round picks that the Lakers offered because you're going to tell me what if did a New York, thanks. You're gonna offer all those picks to bring. A guy who said he may go to free agency, regardless at the end of next year and what you're going gonna sign Kevin Durant, which, yes, I would do, but that's a player now, who is not gonna play for all the next year. So Anthony Davis would come here. He'd play on a twenty five win team. He may say I hey life here. You make that trade. She leaves. And then you lose olas draft picks. So listen. I get what the Lakers were doing. They want to maximize the window. I would do the same thing I would be in the mindset being the position of doing everything about power to get that second star the Knicks, the Knicks game be given up their entire draft for the next five years. The way. You're right about that. Sided back. Is a winner. Like the visit. Booking them. I. About Easter very. Have. Eight. The right way. Feet turned around Denver towel. They will attract. See Jason easy call when it comes to free agency, I would still make the call. Kevin durant. Gauge his interest Anthony, Kevin Durant. I mean you're talking about the Kimball. Walkers, did Jimmy Butler the world. Like selling me on taking to guys like that. And giving them max contracts insane. An answer back would become ical and still knock on Kemba Walker knock on Jimmy Butler. But we've been there. We've done that hasn't worked. And I agree with you on Jay back that I was one. Of course, I think it's a no brainer for the next three I do. It's a three player draft. So one and John Moran to you. Take our J Barrett three. I don't wanna hear Culver wanna hit the Andre hunter. You don't get cute on Thursday night or j Barrett. You guys thirty six here on this morning. It's JJ after dark Sanchez Jenky with Iran here on the fan. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six.

"They've got guys like off onto McKinney who when Katie went down, actually played a nice roll, like he played the Patrick McCall role that they had a couple of years ago and was doing just fine. They just for whatever reason Kurt in a lot of minutes because he wanted to get boogie minutes. And he he just was mixing. His rotations upload will be fascinating is if, if Toronto hold serve and Katie comes back for game three. Yeah. And then saves the day rise in the white horse saves the day. Hillary it opens the door for him to leave its changes riding ease. That's right. Brooklyn. There you go. Just keep going. Do you want to share with the audience the proclamation you continue to make you? And I talked this morning about the Nixon, the Lakers, the Knicks are gonna win a playoff series before the Lakers, will, I mean. Wow. Really, why not it's not a crazy statement hot take on a Friday and the Knicks are gonna. That's a hot taken a friend is it why late Lakers have shown nothing to think that they're going to win a playoff series. The only reason I would disagree with you time soon. Okay for you. You could end up being right. But the reason I would disagree with you today. Is that the Lakers have LeBron? And the Knicks stone. And Katie is not a Nick yet. Right. You're, you're, you're making the assumption that Katy is going be. You're not actually are you, you always every time they tell you what's happening. You go Koch shut up. It'd be hilarious if he goes to. That's that's when you it would be very Knicks. If he did go to Brooklyn hiree. It'd be hilarious. Kimmy RJ Barrett, Kevin. Knox Mitchell Robinson and some drafters. The reports today that they move out of the three and trade down. Did that one really hurt? Is that what eight and ten? Where did that talking about them going down street connects day? It's like all over the Twitter. I don't know winter this winter said it George, you know. No. Never. Didn't play and just right. And talk about it all know the checkmark Twitter's different from just the Twitter. Right. But sometimes just the Twitter without the checkmark is way, more fun. Oh, it's way, more fun. Checkmark twitter. More serious might follow a ton of different fans from different teams in cities, just to get a real feel for how the town really feel right. And that's always the best part is called the dark web relates for them. When you say that, though win a series before the Lakers. You are projecting. The katie's going to be there. I don't care can't make you can't make the prediction without okay. Who's there? Yeah. Katie's in your head. I really think Katie is going. At this point. I'm genteel place, going stays what happens if he stays does like a one in one again. Yeah. And I believe her that the outcome of all these series do matter to the future of these guys. Like I don't think why I know but if they have been for rhino wins. It does that increase or decrease the chances of quiet leaving. I think that increases the chance of him leaving my work here is done. Yeah, I but if George, what do you think about that? And I don't want to leave Toronto wins. It does it increase or decrease the chance of quiet stays such a weirdo. Like I mean, and I mean that. Nice may Pozo. Right. I don't think you know, he's a he's a weird cat. It means anything to, look, here's the thing, he he's strange because I was told this story by people in San Antonio. And I think it was in G Q spread that they, they did on Koa while back, which is he's very frugal. I've heard he drives the same car, he I bought when he got in the league he was he lived in a, condo shares with his mom like one lives upstairs. One lives downstairs, the great part of the story that I that I was told was in San Antonio. He was big fan of wingstop. And he each player got huge coupon booklet of free wingstop..

"It's pretty likely I think it's probably pretty likely where do you guys think most of the free agents are going to go to early your stuff? New York's got the most money, this offseason Ambro. Are you including Brooklyn in that to those teams? Yeah. They both have a ton of money this off season. To place. Become a bigger name go to the next. You wanna go to win. Go to you wanna be a legend you go to the Knicks and win a championship, but because they have stunk in our lifetime, but not like Brooklyn been that much better. They're also they also went to at least they went back to bat finals. No, they didn't didn't they. They did one, which as in can they lost the Alex literally, the Knicks are so bad in the last couple years, I know, I know. But that's my point though Brooklyn, actually they have cap space, and they have these, these players like the Knicks stone anything like Arvid would juniors the most promising player in he peaked in the middle of his rookie season. Would you guys? Agreed that. That's accurate. The he still has a lot of time to peak. I think it depends on how big the plus like in the NBA is at the same as MLB. They just took the biggest contracts. I think for a person like Durant. No. He doesn't need to take the biggest contract because he makes so much money. Anyway, the he doesn't care about money. I know it's kind of close to home for a Kemba kind of situation. He's definitely like stud. Yeah, but he's probably he does not have near the off the quarter earnings Iran. Does he may make more money than Durant during this agency like guaranteed? Oh, contracts all guaranteed a high two year contract. And then just extend that start doing LeBron kind of stuff. Have you ever said thanks to MBA agents for that? The superman not the supermax. The fact that MBA contracts are fully guaranteed no matter what it's a players association agents while they, they, they absolutely slapped around the other people I feel like the they were never non-guaranteed. I know. But like. Impacted. The teams have protection. For football contracts to be non bearded can suffer terrible injury and basketball to why, why not like fifty percent guaranteed but NFL is like non-guaranteed. Making so much money anyways. It's just it's just part of the deal scientists contract. It's good as gold backed probably about an in gold. I didn't sign up to play basketball for the guaranteed contracts. But it's a nice. Per take your here. Zayn a four year contract..

"Thing. Can I see Durant and Leonard teaming up no probably now, I can't see qualified in the beginning. Because he has this Jack beans in Canada. Seems like somebody's destined to being California. I think that lifestyle peel them put his college board, San Diego State. Coming. But you could sell me out Kyrie Irving, you could sell me on Kemba Walker and watching Jimmy Butler. And I know he had that falling out with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Guy's dog. And I say that in a positive way not a negative way. He competes he works his ass off on both ends at four. The fans has a mid range game useful player. Very very good player. Jimmy gonna end up back in Philadelphia. I think the Philadelphia seventy Sixers will choose the services of Jimmy Butler over Tobias Harris, and I would too because I just think Jimmy Bo is a better player. But for the Knicks. We can have so much fun. Join up scenarios in free agency. It really starts and ends. We're Kevin Durant. He gets. Kevin durant? Your franchise back on that. If you don't and you settling for those mid tier guys. Aching lead. You to NBA purgatory can lead, you Ambi, Al. And this may sound crazy. But if the Knicks stone end up getting Kevin Durant. They probably should punt two thousand nineteen hill. And just keep building the jazzed, it's painful, it's miserable. Put you yourself in a long term contracts for marginal players still worst thing you can do in the NBA because then you have a limited ceiling. Team that wins forty four games every year. Your Sixers seven seed, and you have no chance of competing for championship. To be very very careful that those mistakes are not made in this very careful in his very important summer. You wanna talk best case scenario. I think it starts to fourteenth and it's front and center. With the rent watch big is far as Durant watches concerned. Even though I will not be rooting for this because I can't stand the warriors. I'm so sick and tired of the warriors. I don't wanna see the warriors win another title. You almost want. Kevin Durant to win his third straight warriors. Where it's like, oh what else is there for him to do that? And the answer is not a whole lot MVP's. Brian James, he now, I think it had this title of being the best player in the world. It is debatable. Listen, we're going to take out of the mix that conversation for best player on the planet. It's durant. Is there wanted is there? Is that a fairly fliegelman if we're going to take Bron James out of this minute. I would say right now put top five players we've from out of it because the motivation age that stuff, I go Durant. I have to put you on. And now I have to put Leonard. Can't forget about James Horton. And in carry those would be the five guys that put on Ellis in some order because. With horn guy won MVP last year. We could debate the order, but I I'm trying to think what other guy you would even put on that list. I'm not putting anybody nobody else. Nobody. Up there yet? But none of the other guys are consistent enough is not consistent. He's on the court enough Daimler terrific talent, he's not level right after that probably like seven it's probably like sixty Davis not on the court enough. No. I mean, you wouldn't take anti-davos over no way. No. You wouldn't take Anthony Davis people because of last season. But I think, you know, especially today reminded you of how great he can be seen them up close. It just comes so easy for Leonard. Effortless. He almost reminds me of the guy that in baseball, people criticize he's too lazy out there because something's are so easy for show on they don't have to exert all that extra energy to get to that level is like that. He doesn't have to look like he's like going all out or trying so hard just because he can be this elite top level player without looking like that it comes so easily to him down here. It was like the quietest twenty plus points in the first half I'd ever seen and a second. Just completely gave don't forget about. How great he is on the defensive end. Well, that's why it has to be in that conversation. And that's what hurts guys like Horton and curry as dominant as they are offensive -ly curry is that passed an average defender and at times, he can be a liability horn ASA we can be alive -bility on defense, usually. Well, you know, what we've seen it with curry in the past two curry at the very least Pasquin gets couple of feels horn just seems like Shimao position. He's doing he's doing that. But Jaanus when heard all world two way players, and Kevin Durant is taking his defense to another level. Kevin Durant has been the warriors best player here in his postseason down. Kevin durant? Looks like a guy who's determined to no matter what happens this summer. He's winning championship this season. He's on the Golden State Warriors. Hey, Ben against that. I know. But even so like he looks determined to say, listen, I'm people forget about me. I know I came to the warriors. That's great. I'm the best player left. He looks determined to prove that to everybody who doesn't believe it, and hopefully that ship on his show there will be gone with the warriors. He carries it with them to what is it? Thirty second in eighth mean right around there. He carries it with him to the garden. Sounds good to me. Eight seven seven three seven sixty six sixty six the Philadelphia in Philadelphia cheese steak. I had a miserable back and this guy's gonna join us JR is up next on a family. So JR. Nothing. John fun. Check it. All right. Let's talk about the Mets for minute. And I'll listen to your response out the air. I this is going to develop into a situation where they're going to be out of the race. Completely looking at the team the Braves quietly as the second best team Philly. Nationals are weird team have a lot of whole. But let's talk about the fact they demoted Dominic Smith propped up into a great player. But if you're going to win games, you have to have a left handed pinch hitter on the bench increase three almost exclusively has left ended pinch hitter. Batting average began below two fifty. They cannot produce runs at all. They're terrible pensively hitting the clutch. They don't move runners over team is in such a. A funk. So what do they do the guy who finally got his act together? Terrific pitcher and actually move. Managers to teach things games. They wouldn't even pitch to them. Which is what happened in the game? The only game the Burs to that home game. They didn't want to pitch the Smith. So the manager brought in a right handed pitcher pitcher Davis got the big two-run double. And that was because. What happens? Today's later guy with three thirty three average gets the motive. Korea who's a light hitter just to save some money. They kept on the roster. Have to pay full salary. He was terrible rights in the get-go. Now, you have the Armageddon situation with the pitching staff were match has the nerve problem. And he might be out for extended periods artists as hamstring. They've no pitching depth. They're not going to compete interest. The had some serious problems. I agree with you on Dominic spent where I disagree. It's not about Danny hitching Berea who to me serves the purpose on this team because we lost puppy shortstop is total mess. Saturday was embarrassing to watch. Boone balls his position not handling Conforto stole from the outfield clearly in Ajay. So having a guy could pick it at short coming off your bench not wrong with that the promo had. And I said this Friday sued is found out. We were doing TV me in the mood silver, and why don't allow show, and it was obvious Kim. Brockton is guys should been sent packing. Mcneil's plenty outfield. Limoux even though he's been awful. He's playing. Is playing mcgarry is here. Keo? Brockton does not serve much purpose on his team. And I agree you gonna keep your best twenty-five roster Brodie van wagon. He's been saying over and over again that includes Dominic Smith. And I know people make the argument. Well. He needs to play every day. He needs the Red Sea's gotta go down to Syracuse in order to get those reps. And a by that he's been in a minor leagues. Long enough. He's had a purpose role on this team. I would have continued that role, and I don't necessarily buy this notion that in order to enhance his trade value. He's got to be done in Syracuse Reagan, I think showing teams at the big league level that he can perform that he can play a part time role import time duty. A team. That's more to me. I've already seen hit mediocre AAA pitching about being able to perform in a big lease Mets got that wrong. But they're big a problem is too many guys in his lineup. Just not pulling their weight offensively from canot to Nimmo to Rama's to Frazier. The pats have not been good. It can't be three guys carrying the lineup. And now with match Vargas, potentially missing some time. Now will you want for pitching staff that lacks that sort of quality death thumping down the minor league system? It is not there. Chris flex in Korea's walled..

"Nick stone here. In like, two minutes. Now, this is going to be from soccer city. The e measure e. So here's a quick little side story this I have a migraine right now. So there's like a twenty percent chance of my throw up in the middle of this interview. Where are you guys are going to put money down on this one chances of Mike Slater throwing up in the middle of this interview? Do you think you're going to go is it really that bad? I'm giving it a twenty percent chance. Okay. A higher than normal. Sure. But I wouldn't be comfortable sitting in there with any sort of chance over Ted not a better great chance though, not an eighty percent. A definite thing. Welcome and good to see you. Nick stone from soccer city, Nick, what's your title over soccer city as you're sitting down festers in on the project manager for soccer city. It's been a long time. I'm gonna ask you. We're going to get right to it. That's all right. I'm gonna ask you the first question that we asked the friends of SDS you person that we talked to like two weeks ago. What exactly exactly is in measure e? So misery is a plan that basically allows us to pay fair market die for the land. And then to start immediately building a stadium and a river park built forty eight hundred housing units. There two point four million square feet of office and a sports entertainment district and some hotel. Yeah. So when people are approving it with their approving approving the sale of the lease land to us at fair market value subject to the terms of lease and one of the conditions of the least will be we have to have soccer for anything to happen here. If we don't then the university can step into her shoes. What does that was part? Again, we have to have soccer. So if if we don't produce a Major League Soccer team, which we will within within a year, then American say, okay, you guys didn't didn't deliver. So now, you're removed, and I'm putting the university in your they could they break the city can break or you're breaking the least I guess you can come in and swoop it from right? Or is that just a potential thing? They could do they they would have to the university of have to pay the same amount. So they get to be us basically and build what they have to go through a whole another process or in measure e that in hardwired into the initiative g essentially is hardwired into e effectively. How which is part of what we've been saying all along is look we are so confident that we're going to be able to get a Major League Soccer team and deliver it sure. But if we don't, you know, the city's got to be protected sitting needs a tax base their needs housing and all those things. So here's another tool to allow you to get it. Really? Yeah. Okay. So on the no on soccer city website. Okay. And one of them is. F S investors. That's you could decide not to build a stadium. But could lease the rest of the land. And then profit off it without ever building a stadium at all. So not true. But okay, like there's an awful lot of that floating around here. Here's how this works. If we don't build a stadium. We have to give back the land to the city. In the measure in the measure. It's called reverted. Right. That the city has the right to decide. I don't want it because you got sued and you're almost there. But, but it's the city's option to take the land back it sent you end up seventy okay. Well, the city said to us was hey, look, we still want the housing, right? We still need the office space where like we need all those things because we gotta figure out a way to tackle our housing crisis. So we don't want all the developers staring at this until the stadium gets completed before they start doing anything there. So you can we want stuff to happen right now? So the way we've handled that as we said, look if the city chooses to take the land back, then the developers that Bill whatever piece of residential condos or apartments, oh, the city full fair market value for their ground lease on the land. Who would pay who then? So whoever built the residential housing owes the city full market value for the ground, liaison, simple version of this. We've had a private group. Help figure out how to lease the city's land and build stuff on it for which the city gets compensated, fair value. So like if and that's only in the incredibly small chance of which we don't build a stadium and believe us having worked this hard. We're building stadium. We're gonna start a soccer team. Like, that's that's the goal of this whole thing that's hard wired. So as you said earlier, you said one year, and then he said seven years, so what are those two? Well, so so two different timeframe pieces. If we don't have a soccer team awarded to us within a year. Then we never start. Okay. Once we get a soccer team awarded to us. We have seven years to build a stadium initiative. Gotta gotta gotta practically Mike. So you know, it'll start in two thousand nine hundred and we'll be done by twenty twenty two. Because if we're not the league can take away our team. Okay. That's your incentive to get that. Okay. Interesting. Let the Knicks stone from measure e the yes on soccer city. Let's talk about the river park. The seems to be another point of contention, sir. What is guaranteed in measure e when it comes to the river park, which by the way, doesn't even exist now. But good. Yeah. Well, let's I mean that is the right starting point. Right. The entire thing today as a parking lot. So so anything is better than that with respect to a park. So what is guaranteed? What what has to happen is that we have to fund the construction of a river park. The city has the right to make us build it or fund. It was the difference. So if we build it. That's the easiest piece. Everybody gets a park the city had for a while an option to say, hey, we we want you to actually give us the money instead, don't build it. Give us the money. Instead this city, we'll build it. And the city we'll build it. Okay. City has said we're never going to take that option. We didn't really want to do that. So you should build the park. Okay. So in all circumstances will end up building the park, and we will spend forty million dollars on the communities river park here. We'll have sixty acres of park across the site. And that there's a all of that is I can we can walk through the precisely how that works. But all of that is embedded in the initiative. So this is no on soccer city does not guarantee a river park. Well, because the city had the right to make us funded. Right. So so. From my perspective. I would much rather build it. I want the park their parks, really valuable. But we said to the city. Hey, you have the option to take the money from us instead of getting the park and the city said, we'll never do that. Hence, the no guarantee. Wow. Yeah. Kind of kind of changes your perspective on the. No, right. So that's the loophole. There Paul is in the measure. It says either soccer city will build it or will pay money to the city to build it and the city had the right to choose which wanted. Okay. So the no one's city. People took that latter option and said no guarantee. Wow. But truly, truthfully. Apart we'll build. Yes. Because either let's say the city comes back in and says, no, no, no, no. We really really want to build it in. It's guarantee that you will pay the city money. Correct taking. That's right. Okay. How what is guaranteed acreage or a cost cost? So forty million dollars on a park could spend you could do one anchor. Then you're saying, right and paving gold, right? That would be an amazing. Right. So it's the money that you're putting well so in in our initiative, there's fifty five acres of total parks across the site. The the way that. Well, this of river park qualifying park fifty acres that fifty five what makes it a river park along the river. Yeah. So we have parks that are dotted throughout the site. Because people want to be able to get the parks. I mean, look there's no real secret in any of these people, white parks, right? They really liked parks when they don't have to pay for them. And so that's what we're proposing. We're saying look, here's here's a great way for you to get a bunch of river park free that is a valuable asset to the city. But also that we're going to maintain for the next ninety nine years. The city wouldn't be maintaining that either. Correct. What if the city decides to build it in that small chance? Yeah, we still have to maintain. This is ridiculous. Okay. And stone he's from measure here. One eight hundred seven sixty K F MB if you have any questions, let's talk about traffic because that's the big one. Right. That's what everyone you any developer built a project proposes the project demoines traffic were for traffic stakes down there by well. At least it stinks on the western side of the valley. Right. Okay. So on the eastern side of the valley over where there's a big parking lot. It's not that bad unless you happen to have eleven thousand cars on the road any single point lake the exit of a former chargers game. Sure that was bad when the charges and in eleven thousand cars got on the road in an hour. So yeah that that hurts. Eleven thousand cars equals, sixty thousand people the stadium was right. Yeah. Okay. And so for perspective in our single worst. Our we have thirty five hundred cars. There's eleven thousand cars at the end of charters, get correct. And how many cars are you talking? Like our worst our thirty six hundred leaving the site. Okay. So you got twenty five percent. Yeah. So that all of the rumors about is like two times Qualcomm every that's ridiculous. I mean. Because you're taking trips over the course of the entire day. And you're saying imagine what we're would have been in an hour off all those trips that happened not an hour, but the entire day deceptive math. Yeah. It's but but that's intentional right. So okay. So traffic look anybody who built anything here is going to have is gonna create traffic. Right. That's sort of one of the components of building something we'll have more people living there. We kind of need that we need a place for people to live. We actually fund fifty million dollars with traffic improvements. There's like a huge traffic schedule in our initiative with travel schedule. It says every time you pull a permit for new building go out and test. How many chips you've created an if you're going to go over the next trip threshold you've got to build the next improvement. So in some cases, that's like and friars in other cases, like add restripe the way that fires works or add lanes across Fryers or add leans over the freeway etcetera, and you're responsible for all that more responsible for paying for that. Okay. You put fifty million dollars into some sort of perspective. Like, I don't know. What what does that mean? What does that how much stuff does that look like how much infrastructure is that?.
