"Yummy yummy was behind there, but no matter what they did, they weren't going to be able to get to it. And the cuttlefish figured this out really quickly. And so they found that if they would wait, even though the circle door which opens immediately, if it had like the crap treat, they wouldn't go for it if they knew that the later door would open later. So they learned it pretty quickly, which is so clever. You think there's no way to test that, right? Well, you would test the leg gratification with a squid. And they freaking figure it out. So not only do they recognize shapes, right? They can recognize the objects and what they represent. And then their behavior. They learn the behavior of the doors, but they know that the triangle door is that door. So they also, they know they only get one treat. So if they take the crappy treat out of the circle box. That's it. They will not get the good news. But they don't take it. Then the next weight, they'll get the good treatment. But in the control group, no matter what they do, they never get it. And so that's like they need that. To show. I'm waiting, I'm waiting. I'm still not going to get the really good thing that's behind there. Yeah. But here's something else that's really interesting. They decided later to do kind of a version of the Wisconsin card sort. And so I don't know, this is like a classic test that's given in neuropsychology and neurology. For executive functions, like a frontal lobe, like if you're looking at frontal lobe dysfunction. And it's an interesting paradigm, but basically it's about pattern recognition. And then we switch it up on the patient. And a patient who has a certain type of dysfunction is going to perseverate and keep going back to the old pattern. It's going to be hard for them to switch into a new pattern. They did something similar with these cuttlefish where they use different shapes again, and they would learn that this shape means you get this treat. And then they would switch it up on them, and the cuttlefish that were the best. This was, by the way, this was a small sample size. It was only 6 cuttlefish that they worked with. But whatever. You only need one to show that they have capacity. And so they showed that of the 6 cuttlefish, the ones that performed the best on the card sort version were also the ones that picked up the marshmallow test the fastest. So clearly you also saw a range of cognitive capability of intellectual functioning within the cuttlefish. But the question has been why? So with primates with corvids, researchers think that the reason that they need delayed gratification has to do with tool making. If I want to get to, if I want to be able to eat something or to be able to have some sort of reward, but I need to create a tool in order to get it or use a found tool in order to get it. I need to be able to see multiple steps ahead. And I have to delay my gratification. But cuttlefish have never been observed to use tools. There was another one, another reason. Oh, they also don't like cash food, right? Like they don't hide food around and then find it later. So they were like, that's another reason the delayed corporation would make sense. You need to be able to see that. But they think it has to do something to do with how they look for food. So cuttlefish use camouflage. But they can only on camouflage or they have to un camouflage when they're moving. And so they have to be really smart about when they go out to actually search for food. They have to be patient. Patient. They're protected when they're camouflaged, but when they're going out to get their food, it has to almost be premeditated. They have to really planned it. So they wait for a good food opportunity. Exactly. It's worth it to go. Yes, instead of going out for poorer nutritional quality or food opportunities that they're not likely to catch, they wait until they have a better opportunity. And they think that that's why they won't develop. That's cool. Yeah. My understanding is that chimps don't do well on the marshmallow test. And the interpretation of that is because chimps exhibit a behavior that researchers called greedy. Right. They can not forgo what's in front of them. Even though even though they learn that if they wait, they'll get more. Even knowing it, I don't care, I have to take this thing right in front of me I want it right now. It's really interesting. Yeah, because chimps also, I bet you and I bet you bonobos do well on the marshmallow test, probably for similar reasons. I don't think I do well on that test. I'm not good with delayed gratification. I wonder how you would have done as a kid. Probably terrible. You think? Yeah. I mean, and like marshmallow or whatever, we don't have to use marshmallows because it's like a weird paradigm. Jay is the meatball test. The meatballs. Awesome, it's a laid gratification. Like I'm too good at it though. Myself sometimes. So how do you do with the mirror test? The merit test? It took me a few years to figure out it was me. You will sing My Octopus Teacher, right? Maybe talked about that. Have you seen? Have you seen the parody of My Octopus Teacher? Okay. Oh wait. So you've seen the trailer for My Octopus Teacher where he's like, oh, I fell in love with it. And then I saw it. And so somebody did scene for scene line by line of parody with like a pool cleaner. This is so cool. It's so good. I have problems with My Octopus Teacher. Yeah. Ethically. Yeah, he personified the shit out of that octopus. And he like invaded its territory. And was like, he loves me, and it's like, no, you're just like all of us. Like you couldn't get away with she couldn't get away from him. All right, George. Yes, sir. Yes, you're going to jibber jabber about. What? I'm always fascinated with weird linguistic little rules and things that we just sort of inherently know and that aren't necessarily taught, but that make complete sense. And there's these, there's these rules in English, and I think every language has it, but English is pretty good at having these implied rules that you never quite sit down and learn, but they become obvious. If I say Pong ping or splash splish, it feels weird, right? Yeah. Or if you say zag zig. That's just wrong. It's just wrong. Is that also just because we're so trained on this? Well, it's the question. That's the question. Talk tick. Talk tick. Just weird. Well, there's this thing called the blout, reduplication. Reduplication rule, the unwritten blout reduplication rule, reduplication is a thing that happens linguistically, and there's 5 other examples of reduplication, which we'll get to in a minute. But this rule, they don't know why. There's theories. There's some ideas about why when we do tend to pair words that sound similar in that way. The short vowel is first followed by the long vowel. So it's teeter totter. So it's always the eye, then an a or an O oh, wow. And it's like, you don't even know you're doing it. Totally doing it. Flim flam. Kitty cat. Knick knack. You don't say neck neck. It just feels weird, right? It feels so weird. Sing saw.

"I'm sorry, because that's just that message that he sent to. I don't even know when that was, but it's been like sticking in my brain. Was he defending? I don't remember that. Yeah, he was. We got the receipts. I got the receipts. We'll have to go back and what about jaylen Brown at some point? East coast THT. Moving on to the clam chowder Taylor Horton Tucker, jaylen Brown. Who was he 13 to 36 the other night? Zero 6. Maybe your worst, your worst statement as a human being. Chowder Taylor Horton Tucker was objectively hilarious. It's up there. Okay, so let's talk about most overrated guys who play in the big markets beyond THD. We think we've covered him to death. Is there anyone else out there who plays for, I guess, just any large market team who you feel just receives more attention than they otherwise deserve? That's interesting. I guess I tried to 6 between large market and contender, and sometimes there's just like a confluence of the two. I mean, we really want to do this like Julius Randle. You're gonna go there? Julius Randle maybe. I'm not gonna lie. He's an honorable mention for me on this side. I was listening, here's the thing. I'm like no, no desire to rob knick fans of any joy. Last season was an incredibly fun season if you're a Knicks fan. If you're next to me and you should not care that I'm skeptical of Julius Randle, but they do performance. You should just enjoy the fact that that was an incredibly fun season, but I mean the Nick sometimes it was like Kevin Knox was it for a little bit and was it for a little bit and it was like they or it feels like they're so quick to a point kind of savior sometimes and sometimes the people fall out of but they also have really fun guys. Like a manual quickly is awesome, and maybe should be even more popular nationally. But okay, so let me jump in. A manual quickly. He's on my overrated list. What makes you think that he's so excellent? I think it's more so than I think he's so fun. I'm not saying that he can't improve as a player. I also think that it's like it's funny that he is like stuck soap behind so many backcourt players that I don't know, maybe if he was in a place that was trying to develop him a little bit more. He would be a little bit different story. I just really like watching him play. I think he's a fun player. It's like, in answering this question, it's really hard not to call out. Exactly. Media members and stuff. I'm not gonna do that at all. I just sometimes see stuff about him where I'm like, I imagine a manual quickly playing and I know how this industry works, so I'm not like I'm not naive to it or anything, but if a manual quickly was on the New Orleans pelicans or on the spurs or the magic or whoever, it's like, no one would be writing or talking about manual quickly. That's just like rob Williams..

"Wow time. This was a very pleasant conversation. Welcome to the podcast. Goodbye wow nick you got three. I call it a success. John hunter and the chant. Chinese still gar reverend remember. You didn't go your friend. john who's in you know. i i wanted to call darren. She was very unprepared. And i like that their fair enough fair enough for those that you know. She's in the other room with marcus. Snap their job. Knick game was short and painful like paul his hand in the mysterious box. Can you explain that seem to me. Is that was one thing where i feel like. Maybe i missed something. I think i got it. I just think. I might think it's kinda dumb but please explain it to me is kind of dumb. But it's sort of a tradition of the space. Which thing right like so. If you're going to be bench has raid. You have to go through very intense training. That's why lady jessica knows somebody languages. She's able to fight. They have a history and cutting power right. It's like bill have holding their power precious kind of simple four continue explaining. I want to know what from the movie. What kind what do you know about the benckiser. Because that's something that i was like. Ere huge deal and very important to the film. But i'm curious to see what people are leaving this film knowing about them. Oh sure why also that. They just announced that they're thinking about having an hbo mac show about them. So oh that'd be cool. Yeah they just got it out there to go. So i think that the betty are kinda like the peop- the so they seem like it's a catholocism e kind of reverend mother he kinda l. but i'm pretty sure they are the jaffar's of this world they are the advisers but very specifically they are women so they send them to mary or be with different like heads of state. So i i. I think it's like like so. I assume every lord aaron emperor has one of these people by their side and they are like helping. But they're helping so much they're like kind of pulling the strings of like everything that happens. They also assume they have some kind inch training to like. You said like it's very obvious. They like no lots of things in language. They have this this power so it also seems like. It's a bloodline thing. So maybe they're all related or at the very least it's very like insular of where they're given come from and where they are because they're all like themselves yet. They do say that nuclear by the reverend mother is like you were supposed to have girl because you were supposed to make another benny jess rate. Yeah and that's i think that's the context that you get like it'd be by telling us what jessica didn't do right. You understand what they're supposed to be. Exactly yeah i think that's everything i know. That's good that's much. That's honestly all the racer. No right now about the bandages. Right they are the puppeteers of the universe. They are everywhere and it's constantly surprising how deep their touch goes right like when they first arrive on. Iraq is there. The people are chanting something in. And she's like the ask lady jessica. What are they chanting. And she's like. It seems like the benny have..

"I mean that's basically what it comes down to so then having kicked field goals i mean really. You can't have the two point conversion cotton contest another topic. I need you to help me with. Because you're a die. Hard knicks fan. I know you've been watching every game this season. Because you're a radio host of new yorker all pumped up because the knicks are good for a change. I casually pay attention. What is what is bing bong. What is this big bunk thing. I have no idea what's going on and now it's on the back page of the daily news. I don't know what it means. Oh did you. did you see this particular now. We're going to be selling like old men as usual. There's this ridiculous video that was circulating. it went viral. You just see what the knick fans after game like. Screaming and cursing. Yeah that exactly why. I don't go to sporting events anymore. It honestly makes me not want to go either. Knick fans are. They're not now. I love the knicks. I'm happy that they're doing well but that was so. I never even got through the full video. But either i swatch five seconds. And i'm like this is why i don't go to games. I shut it off agreed. I don't need to hear people yelling and screaming and cursing just not tomato. Find it funny. I didn't whatever but it went viral. It right so. I believe it comes from that. There was a funny clip in air of some fan talking trash. And i think he said bing bong and the reason why no about that is because after. The magic beat the knicks on sunday at the garden. The magic twitter account tweeted out a gif of that guy with the words being bought and the guy the that guy. So i believe that it comes from that. Now it's taken off a world of its own okay. So now i guess from that video. I had was on the back page of the daily news today. Yeah i gotta find out what this means. And i didn't bother googling it. Because i think i was like doing something else and i'm like how crazy video that got a toilet. You're okay another topic world series. Are you into this world series. I i got asked by one of the media. Oh my god. I can't believe. I forgot it so being but i was asked to do like a ratings prediction. I don't think the ratings are going to be good at all just because nationally. I don't think this matchup is going to entice people. Are you into this match up. Not really. I mean. I was in last night. I texted you before the game. You're going to bet. This baseball nets. Because i wanted to be into. It's the world series. This is it the final series final two games of the baseball year. I want to be into it. I'm going to root for the braves. Just because i don't want to see the astros win but that game last night if you put it this way if if you were going based off a game on going into the series that game did nothing for me even somebody who had the brains at had. The over three and a half. Thanks to you. i still was like. I'm just not interested. So i don't like the bowl pending. I think that loses its luster. There's no real yet dusty. Baker story line okay. The brave and the first time since ninety nine back in the world. There's no real juice..

Farmer i mean he was born in one thousand nine so he's not that young but he's still. I mean if actually that. Read steve really. Isn't that young but do have some really good prospects like hundred rain coming up. The jonathan india is is the guy that they brought up this year they and they also have shogo akiyama who a good outfielder forum is just right now with tyler. Knick win and then center tyler. Aikman's a great defensive center fielder allocates. It's as simple as that for the American league cy young award or not cy young award the american league rookie of the year. The award was predicted to go to randy arose. Raina i mean. He was the number one prospect in all of baseball. He got off to really slow start and who didn't get off to a slow start. Els all these garcia at the at a texas. I think he has a pretty much locked up. And i think i mean like he could hit thirty home runs this year. He's i mean but he is a twenty eight year old rookie. So he's like right in his prime. You could make an argument. For like casey mayes or luis garcia at a houston. Honestly like i would probably go with luis garcia but i do think that all these garcia kinda has locked up as of right now randi arena a little bit of dark horse out in the al accu battle a great a great option as well but in the grand scheme of things. I don't really think that it's much of a real real race in the american league wild-card much like i don't think it's any kind of erase. Really four. Eighty buddy to win in the al other shohei otani in that at the i mean itani has elite league in home runs and he's also their number one starter. It feels like he's playing. Mlb the show like legitimately. You can do that on. Mlb the show. And i try it like dynamic difficulty. My is on everything. Like i'm playing it like everybody else. And oh my gosh. It is so hard to be shohei ohtani. I don't know how he doesn't out in the nfl. Though it's it's different because death really. Also kind of have trade turner. Turner is in the batting title conversation right now. Some dark horses. I mean buster. Posey's having a great year. Kris bryant was having a great year bryce harper. I've been kind of making a push for bryce harper. You can also make the case for joey votto also nicholas cassiano says well but neither of those guys were really getting much love in that aspect. But i think that i mean. Turner freeman muncie. Those are all very good options. Battiste definitely does not have this locked up like shohei does. It's going to take a lot. I think for show to lose it and fruit to go to to guerrero as good as guerrero has been this year. Now we're going to take a short break at least for you guys for me. They had back in the day or just out of nothing But the first moment that comes closest to what i do today is When i was fifteen sixteen. I had been playing with. She'll cities websites for awhile. I don't know whether you remember dole's but it was kind of Very entry level so the websites you say you could say that the weeks of back then but but way more Basic stuff where you had some some decks and then you could make a little menu and then you have like some animation Very basic stuff an account at the baltimore dont'a so it's you're the so and so visitor to this site or something. Yeah okay yeah and that sort of got me excited for websites for secretaries city stuff and at some point i discovered like how you could make them in. html encinas us very basic back. Then if you wanted to create anything wool you had to use flash flash. I started building websites mainly in flashed widsom. Acm alan has surrounded. But that didn't really come into play and build one for so myself and build one for my mom like Showcasing some of a projects. And i started building a bit more widely and at that point i saw myself becoming a web designer and having a designed company and that's sort of where it started for me thinking okay i can i can date my My interest in building stuff might technical backgrounds and do something for people.

What's going on my prime appreciate it. It's fifty medicine. The nassau county border and may have the scott ceos no vaccine called restrictions. What do you think the unvaccinated population in new york city which it's pretty It's pretty vast. What do you think they're gonna to do. They're going to wait in line. we now have the high abound. S you're going to not be able to sell pizza to to anybody that comes in your store and doesn't show the vaccine card for right now the way that he worded it. It's for indoor dining so you can't go out to eat anymore if you're not vaccinate in new york city come august thirteen. I can't tell you what to do. And i'm not going to urge anybody to break the law but i will tell you i find it so offensive you know. Where are your papers before you can get a piece of pizza shop. I mean you gotta you gotta be kidding me now. I'm sure you've already suffered a lot. Because of the jakonen shutdown measures already and now we got a high advances for the doors spaghetti security to check these cards. They wanted to stay in. Business is not a lot of profit margin in a pizza no exposed. How much of cost you to make a pizza your costs. What does it cost after labor. Insurance and i walk away very much walking on very much you make it on average. You know large pie regular pie. Seventeen eighteen dollars profit margins about twenty five percent on that on a pink. But that's not a lot. It may sound like a lot but it's not by the way some of you that don't live in new york and you eat this crappy pizza all the time trust me. You know pizzas until you've lived in new york. It's much better That's that was my biggest complaint. When i didn't live in new york sixteen years that i couldn't find a bagel anywhere but putting that aside you know i feel terrible for for guys like yourself. Nick you built a business you put your heart and soul into. Let me ask you how many hours you work a week. It's a family owned restaurant family restaurant. It's my whole family and their Many hours do you put it in a week where we live at least at least five nights a week working at least twelve hour days going job. Enjoy work fulltime. Go work there at night. I mean it's just so hard and will like killing guys like you go. Your is just killing businesses like yours and drive through new york city. Now you see in streets always outdoor dining structures and guess who had to invest in that money just to just to keep the doors open. Keep their employees working. The restaurants were ex foot. The bill for all the lumber all the manpower would i talk to to get the the south really creating hair. Such a crock. Because what they're creating is an indoor area just covered with plastic and saying it's outdoors. That's all they're doing is not any different you. Uc beyond stupid to me. I'm like i. I go to my buddy's restaurant Kristen tony's and i love these guys and you know so go home. I'm hanging out and he goes do you wanna you know. Do you wanna stay outside. I'm like really you mean in the indoor plastic room or what. I rather eat in. The restaurant is that my option started laughing startling. Everyone knows it's a crock. Everybody i'm gonna tell you every cop. I know they're not going after you guys they don't wanna hear it. No now i if anything they committed in and they they. They're buying their own pizza. You know just coming in the back door but now when people are going to do is they're going to wait in line if they're not undock nato. They can't bring their children went out the next up on borderline screens neighborhoods like howard beach. Bayside little neck. Say it all or they're gonna drive fifteen minutes across the border and then that so county and not have any restrictions. That's what's gonna that's what's really going to. There's somebody like you close to the border. You're gonna pay you know. Look if i ever get in the area. I'm gonna come by and see. I happen to be a big pizza lover and anyway. I'm sorry. I really truly sorry you and your family deserve better than this and i wish i could say pack up your business moved to florida but that's not exactly easy either in our. I don't know if you own the building rent the building you have it the cost of moving and building a business soldier so difficult. How many been visiting the kick. And it's it's going to be inevitable pretty soon to pack up and leave. It's gonna be inevitable swift people. i'm gonna how many years you've family been in business by we've been. We opened up three years ago so we had one year almost a year and a half of chaos and now it's like home. I like italian in this audience. They get it and nobody listening to this. That is insane this socks. No i don't want. I don't want anybody to fail. Especially this is your dream. Your family's dream you put your heart and soul into it. I'm sure you're you're you're menus. Phenomenal you kill yourself everyday. It's not easy work. it's a heavy lift. The margins are small and they're making it impossible and then whatever money do make they take half of it anyway Hanging in there my friend. I one day i hope to stop in and see you. "He's revitalized that entire organization one of the reasons they really build that amazing Arena that they have but there's gonna come a point where you look at some of these contracts even lonzo ball getting Four years eighty five million. He's a very good player. All he's done has been losing teams. And i get it. You're paying for potential with steph. You're paying for services already rendered but the money is crazy. I think in the nba world calling it. Dan patrick money. Oh is that. What steph curry got. Yes very much. i think. It's bill simmons money but but it but sixty million where we freak out when patrick mahomes signs his deal we go. Oh my god. They're paying him that much. And you're going. I ki- would be just another marquee player in the nba. With his salary. Here i remember when eli manning. First scientists contract with the giants he said it was one hundred million but the guaranteed money was what trevor rees it was making automated level exception. So eli manning was basically getting trevor reason money but then you know this when you go back to michael jordan's last two years with the chicago bulls michael jordan. Got thirty million in both those he was like you know in the thirty to thirty five million dollar range even back then he like you know what he's definitely worth it. But now you think all these years later steph. Curry essentially is going to be making double that maze. But it didn't count against the cap with jordan. Now no he was. He remember when the knick fans as you know. We're still playing this game. Or the knick fan was thinking maybe michael jordan would take the mid level exception or minimum to complain new york and then jerry reinsdorf stepped to the plate. And i'll give you thirty million. And then i think it was thirty. Two thirty three million and michael jordan wisely stayed in chicago one two more championships than got his money. Do you think the knicks feel zion. "The morning show with boomer esiason and greg hardy boomer and geo. I know that people are going to point to the injuries. As james harden wasn't one hundred percent kyrie irving didn't play and that's why they are out in the second round where you still had. Kevin durant still had him playing at a very very high level. And by the way when you decide to invest in kyrie irving with his history of injuries and then he's out in the playoffs and the most critical games and then your out in the second round port of the story. That's not really an excuse for you. You decided to say we're going to build around kyrie irving he's going to be one of our pillars when we chase a and there he is again not able to play so this to me and of course. I'm coming from a perspective. Where i didn't want them to win. And i did make the bed to to soften the blow if the nets won the championship. Little i would've won a little bit of money to help me get through this. But i didn't want him to win but this was a failure. It was a huge failure because they went out and change the entire team by bringing in james harden and then when it mattered the most he wasn't entre percent kyrie irving wasn't there and they lost milwaukee bucks who are available that i don't even think deserves to be in the conference finals. This was a bad year for them. It was now it doesn't mean that they can't win a championship next year. And that's what they're going to be favored to win it next year and they very well might but as far as this year is concerned. This was a failure a big failure that you know my suggestion. James harvard harden and kevin ran is. Just you get through next year and then signed with the knicks after that opt out in silent the knicks. That's what they should do and then really be in front of a fan base that is enormous like the nets had their fans. Don't get me wrong The islanders have their fans. Fans are passionate the net bands however many there are passionate. But you know what they're not the knick fan and when the knick fan comes out there is i swear to god. There's nothing like it in basketball. She because the knicks have been down for a long time. We all know this because we talk about it incessantly over the years. But when the knicks are on the knick fan bases in it is like you own the city. If you are a knick player if you are walt frazier you own the city for life your own the city. I've bill bradley dave bush. All those great guys on all monroe to some extent still owns a city..

"Our guest mentor is Jim Lehrer, the world renowned performance psychology psychologist and the co founder of the Orlando based Human Performance Institute, which is now part of Johnson and Johnson. The institute's focus has been to elevate personal well being by inspiring, purposeful living and fostering sustained improvements and one's energy levels to unleash human potential. And pay performance. Jim is the author of 17 books, including the best selling the Power of Engagement. The power of story and now is recently released, leading with character, which is destined to be a sure hit. Jim. Welcome to the mentors and a big thanks for joining us today, and before we jump into today's topic, tell me first and tell the audience what is I performance psychologist. Well, there is a whole personal Tom. Thank you very much. I'm excited to be With you on D. I hope your letters actually get some real value out of this. There are lots of different varieties of Of psychologists. There are clinical. There are counseling. There are Little psychologists. Whole variety, and over the years there have been sports psychologists in the last three decades or so. And, uh, But that has expanded to actually include not just Ford, but anyone who's had a performance arena the research around What enables people to perform in high stress environment. On Dad actually executed the highest levels possible. Our mission at the institute. Which we started in 1992. Very research based approach and Mission was to help individuals and teams perform to the highest level possible. In high stress. Extreme environments brought to do so without ravishing or undermining their health and their happiness and That was our mission, and the whole idea is focusing on this. Very, very critical element of human performance. So you've worked with. I know a lot of work class performers give our audience just an idea of what kind of domains have you worked in on Also, maybe some sampling of some of the clients and I know some of you can't mention but maybe some of the Athletes that you do mention in your books. Give us give our given one of flavor of who you've worked with. We've worked with. It's really been a Living laboratory of high performance We worked with The most extreme environments in the military Special forces. In the FBI had a terrorist team area. We've worked with surgeon surgical teams, all kinds of critical care workers. We've worked with 17 number ones in the world, um, helping to become number one, um And some of them we had our own facility there in Orlando that actually had its own tennis complex and We had, you know, some of the most renowned head upstairs in the world train there. I also was at the Knick Voluntary Tennis academy and set up a research. Institute there for six years. But you know, in tennis people like Jim Courier and Monica Salad Um And, uh, whole variety of Offers, Um You know, from Marco Marriage to the present day I still worked with a number of Level professional tennis players and golfers on both the men's and women's tour. We worked in professional hockey people like Eric Lindros and Mike Richter. We've worked with Lead performers in boxing like Ray boom, boom Mancini and these are names I mentioned because they've all been very public. Um, in the news, and they don't have any issues with it. Most of them I don't talk about on a public venue. Um Dan Jansen of was an Olympic gold medalist, trained with this for two years and became an Olympic champion. We've had just a magnificent I've been very, you know, really, really lucky to have this laboratory. Helping us understand how do people do extraordinary things? How did they become extraordinary from just being pretty ordinary people? And it's been, you know, really, really exciting for me and all of us that Human Performance Institute. When we see people break through And do things that in many cases they never thought they could be. Oh, And releasing that That ability to extend way beyond the limits of what They believed in. Perhaps a lot of even their coaches felt were possible for them. And if you were to put your finger on one thing that all of your students have gained from coming to the human performance Institute. What would that one thing be? Well, I go back to really what are probably you know, your listeners are probably going to think this is rather simplistic, but I'm a day to die. We I'd like to follow science and I like to follow the big gate of trends and look at what's happening and what we learned. Maltese high stress venues. Is that all we were doing? Help him perform better under pressure. Woz to help them become healthier. Become healthier is human beings in all dimensions, Physical health. Emotional health, mental health. And even spiritually health, and that's what we did to help them do these extraordinary things. Just help is what ignites performance that was a major breakthrough for us. Wasn't anything special other than try to progress. What should people be eating? How should they really dealing with their own storytelling with their cognitive processes? What's real help Their what? Help that a very important level. Spiritually these air all the things that We focused on and we looked at the whole person more than looking at the athlete or the special forces person. Has is a separate entity. We looked at the whole person and the entire Uh, kind of fabric. The most. That's what that person represented in the real world and tried to deal with him as a person's first and as an athlete second. So Um, That was a long, long time before we have that understanding, But we really, really felt that was a major breakthrough in our thinking. And we got a few seconds before we go to break but very quickly. How many? I read somewhere that over 400,000 people have somehow have been touched by the human performance in suit Is that correct? Yes, we are..

"So it's the injury everybody's talking about but with clay sadly you gotta specify which injury you're talking about. Are you talking about the one in game. Six of the twenty nine thousand finals. The last time we saw him play a game or the one suffered earlier in the week. Which is an achilles tendon. Tear he is now out. It could be if the calendars right two and a half years between games. We're looking forward to having him back at the start of the twenty twenty one. Twenty two season knick. Fidel has been all over the warriors for years and he joins us on the shell. Pennzoil performance line nick. Good morning first thing. Just the response in and around the organization on the news zubin. Everybody's just depressed excited leading into the draft. And in the fact that wiseman was there at number two he was number one on their board and and they were just really looking forward to having steph klay draymond and then plugging in wiseman and seeing what we can give them and then they range of emotions in those couple of hours before the draft and then after the draft they really couldn't even celebrate. Everybody was so sad about clay. I mean he is the guy behind the scenes with all the star power in that locker room that sets the tone for everybody else. And that's why kerr and all those players they love it and so to know that he's going to be out again for another year which just crushing for. Everybody involved nikki. Give us an insight. Into how bob myers and company dealt with the news of klay thompson literally hours before the nba draft that make their decision challenging more challenging looking at other guys like lamelo ball considering he was going to be available. Jay bob address that right afterwards instead. Look wiseman was our guy if he was there we were taken him and obviously if the emotions involved right before the big or unprecedented we. We really never seen anything like it. Before where a star player who has won titles in an organization gets another serious injury right before you gotta make a huge selection for your future but all along when you talk to people in the organization they love what wise men could give them and they're confident that once he gets into their system playing and learning alongside draymond that he can be maybe that bridge or potentially down the line Tracey's nobody knows for sure but wiseman all along was their guy in. I don't think anything that happened with. Clay change to focus when he was number two

"There's never a good time to fall if your couch onto Martini Glass Knick a major blood vessel and begin losing a dangerous amount of blood but having this happened in the middle of a promising date is an especially bad time. I demonstrated this last spring while on my fourth date with Brazilian woman so beautiful. I was almost afraid of her her after dinner in a home Italian restaurant we walked back to the apartment had just moved into in Brooklyn living in the city for the first time without roommates I was eager to take advantage of my newfound. You found privacy and things were going. Well there's something romantic about drinking from fancy glasses in an unfurnished room full of unpacked boxes. Miles Davis's in a silent silent way spun on the record player. I was amazed to have gotten this far as my friends are sick of hearing it made no sense to me that a gorgeous woman in her early twenty s who spoke four languages at live on three continents with spending Saturdays with me a thirty one year. Old bookish type from Pittsburgh each outing felt as if if I were sneaking into an exclusive club at the end of the night I always feared I'd be discovered and asked to leave. I realized that meeting someone. Wonderful is the whole point of dating but actually being with someone wonderful can be too stressful for me to enjoy. This stress is typical for me. I've been on anti anxiety medication for about ten years and on daytime consistently ask myself. Was that the wrong thing to say. Do I seem nervous. Will obsessing about being nervous make me appear more nervous not unusual question to ask yourself when meeting new the people but for me they can be paralyzing. Even the evening goes well. I often appreciated only later in from distance as if it had happened to someone else like dating into third person so far my success with this particular woman had been an exercise ignoring the reality of it which apparently also led me ignore the reality of my surroundings in general ask unraveled herself from our embrace on the couch to use the bathroom. I fell into the after dinner drinks at left on the floor. The glass slicing into the soft underside of my upper arm. Uh when I looked down I glimpsed my exposed triceps and more blood than I'd ever seen in my life. The cut had gone nearly to the bone. This is not the first time a date it ended with me in the emergency room. I seem to have a knack for it. My College Gopher served under-cooked chicken that gave me hallucinations in a fever of one hundred and four years later my attempt to Cook Breakfast for another woman ended in second degree Burns after I managed to set fire to a paper towel but the severity of his injury. "But I begin with what has been such another wild newsday his day with so much going on consider the noticeably subdued at times even beleaguered president trump holding this first press conference sense. Nancy Pelosi came out for impeachment minutes in the House has gotten so much closer to backing an impeachment probe. Two hundred and Sixteen Democrats are count right now and Donald Trump's almost surreal meeting yes of of all days today in the United States with the president of Ukraine. You're looking at the man that we now know. Donald trump secretly pressured on a phone call to do something thing that attorneys general have resigned over that is the kind of thing that's not allowed in the United States to investigate a political rival Joe Biden and that is what the notes Nicole reveal deal throughout tonight's broadcast. I'm going to stay on the facts and the law but when I say certain things that sound like they're a criticism of the President I will remind you we are reporting. The News of the facts have emerged about the president so when I say he's doing something that would be illegal for. Most people do inside. The United States sounds bad. It's actually just what is in these notes highly highly incriminating they reveal the president asking for what he calls a quote favor an investigation into Joe Biden. Who at the time of this July was someone that looked like they might be the opponent to Donald Trump in the general election? At least he may have thought so and that the president was willing to strike a deal to get it and shows immediately after the Ukrainian president discussed this defense offense money that was so vital donald trump says he would like you to do us a favor and then ask about what appears to be a reference to Clinton's emails that that alone would just sound strange but then Ukrainian president goes on this is from the brand new notes. We have to say something very specific. He spoke with Rudy Giuliani recently and plans to meet with him again. Donald Trump then brings up by saying it would be great if the Ukrainians would work with Attorney General Bill to investigate Biden Haydn. The president responds that he has a new prosecutor in Ukraine and that will be a one hundred percent his person who will look into the situation. You're seeing the deal oh being formed and then Donald Trump says he'll have regional Yanni and attorney general bill bar follow up on all of this. It's all here in black and white this. This is what has come out just today. The president demanding foreign prosecutor investigate his domestic political rival. This is one of the greatest examples of an abuse of government power for and it doesn't matter if that prosecutor that is being pressured to do a political pro to take out on arrival or Joe Biden. It doesn't matter whether they're here in the US or overseas overseas what those notes reflect is a classic mafia-like shakedown of a foreign leader. This is how Mafia bostock's BOSTOCK's. What have you done for us. We've done so much for you but there's not much the prosperity I have a favor. I WanNa ask you what does that favor. Of course the favor is to investigate his political rival to investigate the Biden's chairman shift not mincing words there in his response he also said these notes were even worse and more shocking talking then he might have expected. This conduct is bad. What's detailed here to put it plainly and this is of course and this is important before I bring in our experts that you know this night everything yeah. I've just told you is just. What is public tonight? It's what the White House has been forced and compelled including with bipartisan pressure in the Senate to reveal what is not in public tonight but we are already getting vibes and energy and mood about is the entire whistle blower complaint that blew the lid on all of this and I can tell you in just the last few hours that was privately that is to say under the classified rules turned over to the intelligence committees in Congress and they are dealing with the complaint in private so I don't have those details for you but the Democrats who have reviewed it are already saying it's troubling had the opportunity as have members of the committee to read the whistleblower complaint. I found the allegations deeply disturbing. I also found on them very credible. I can understand why the inspector general found them credible. Even without the benefit yet of the inspector general's full analysis analysis. That's a reference to the trump appointed official in the intelligence community this inspector general who under the law deemed this urge incredible people that got us to this point. Adam Schiff basically saying that while he's not yet able to reveal the details of what's in this complaint we have some of the mood music from the White House notes and and he's waiting to get more from the people blowing the whistle inside the trump administration now those members of Congress got. This whistle blower complaint the right around the same time. Donald Trump stepped out there and tried to keep all eyes on him at this press conference and we cover a lot of these. I'm only going to show you parts of it that we deem newsworthy or that are relevant to fact checking checking but it was not a typical trump press conference. He seemed at times meandering as I mentioned earlier beleaguered but he did in his own way. Defend everything about what even some Republicans are saying incriminating in the notes of this call which was very innocent call very very very innocent very nice. Call fact Lindsey Graham said to me when he read very interesting. Good man is a smart man. He said I can't can't believe it. I never knew you could be this really nice to a person. I didn't think you had that in you to be so nice. I was Nice Nice to a lot of people people don't understand that joining night for our special coverage by former civil prosecutor from the southern district of New York and a former counsel to the mayor of New York knick Ackerman who was a Watergate special prosecutor and Eleanor clift reporting for us from Washington where she's a correspondent for the daily Beast good evening to everyone Maya what is the significance of the White House notes that have now come to the public eye these call notes. I think you've already stated are a make it very clear that Donald Donald Trump spent most of a call almost all of the notes focused specifically on asking the Ukrainian president to reopen an investigation on Joe Biden and Hunter Biden and to eccentrically do it as he is dangling Ling. We've been good to you as presidents. Alinsky says Oh. Yes and I need to come to buy more defense weapons since and that's when he says we've been good to you. You haven't been so good to us so when you put all that together and when almost everything thing that Donald trump wants to focus on is the what they can do. Ukraine can do for him and then says he's going to send his personal attorney attorney Rudy Giuliani and his attorney general. It's pretty staggering. It's kind of like the mob boss who says I've been good to you right. I've been real good to you got to me. They used to prosecute my bosses this if you gave this to me. I'd say it's a typical typical transcript of what I get that I would put into evidence in the course of a mob boss trial. It is right out of Don Corleone. He goes through this in talks about how the Europeans have not been good to him and then he goes on to say look look at but the United States is very very good to Ukraine. I wouldn't you say that it's reciprocal. There's a -serily because things are happening are not good but the United States has been very very could right and he wants. He wants what he calls favor and the favor is doing something just so. We stay on this for everyone watching because there's been so many things it's happening. The favor is something that if you were ordered to do it it would be an unlawful order in the United States. Is that correct. That's correct if you had if you if you had a boss when you were. DOJ and they I said I want an investigation of political rival. Go do it. That's an unlawful order totally. I'm off so what happens. Donald Trump makes that order and tries to execute it through Asia Bar. He claims in here mentioned five times abroad well. It's just a stewart crime. I mean the crime is committed here in the United States. It doesn't make it any less. It's a crime and in fact this impeachment. Inquiry shouldn't be just looking at president trump. It should also be looking at a bar. Do you think people who and we're. We're not there yet because we're investigating if US officials tried to carry this out do they have criminal liability. Absolutely I think they they would have to be worried and now we have to do remember when William Bar testify when in his confirmation hearing and Senator Kamla Harris said were were you ever directed to open an investigation by the president right in your conversations about getting this job and he becomes bizarrely you unable to understand the word suggest right he in this he paused and says I'm. I'm having trouble answering the question because I don't know what you mean by suggest and we all sat go. I think it's a pretty simple word and she couldn't get him to answer the question. This seems to suggest that we know why that's a great point and something that was pressed based on him under oath by Kamla prosecutor like yourself. I want to put this in the context of what Donald Trump said he would do. In other words a lot of the bit best evidence are things that he said in public and some people didn't take him seriously and now things that have come out that he said in private people say oh. Some of his allies tonight or are making the argument well. It's out there. So how bad can it be well. No you fought tooth and nail to keep it from coming out. You kept this part of secret because it executed on the things they used to claim were jokes or hyperbole earlier. Political rhetoric in that context is let's look at Donald Trump back when the American public was assessing him. This is October twenty sixteen and he said had this is his playbook. If I win I'll get a political investigation of my political opponents knicks. He believes a bass bass could be illegal to carry out. Take a look my attorney general I will ask to appoint a special prosecutor.

Knicks Snap 18-Game Home Losing Streak with Win over Spurs to Avoid NBA History

"Guys. We have a guest here obviously on the shell Pennzoil performance line. And it is oh guy. Our guy Bagley get your bag. Ian, how're you doing? In. My three favorites out there tonight. I'm very excited. Yes. ESPN New York. Knicks reporter also does the nets and basically holds the upper east coast down in did you know that the Knicks made the Oscars they pretty much won an Oscar did you notice this? Yeah. We got wind of it on social media after the game. And we asked a couple of players about if they hadn't seen a year for too excited to just see the clip Samuel Jackson, and Spike Lee. Not every not every year that the Knicks could have mentioned on the Oscars deserves rightfully so. Because the Knicks would at home first time that happened since December one twenty eight and I'm talking about last year folks, twenty we're everywhere. Number one two thousand eighteen they won. They beat the Spurs one thirty one eighteen and I even saw the icing on the cake who threw off the backboard pass for the dunk like it was just wild. How important Dennis Smith? Well, of course, it makes sense. Usually he's on the other end of the dunk rape. How does this when in Madison Square Garden me? What was the field? Was it like a sign of relief for coach physio it felt like a weight off everybody's shoulders, you know, coach FitzGerald would tell us that they don't think about it. They don't talk about it. But then the players afterward joking around the locker room, it just felt like a much later lock home. Now, they knew about they were one loss away from Batasuna longest losing streak ninety history set in ninety three ninety four by the Dallas Mavericks. They know that they have the longest losing streak in franchise history. This so they're aware of those numbers. They don't want to be a part of that history. Tonight, especially the team like the city until you're Spurs. It's not easy, especially for this. And we've got a twenty two games left would throw out the record. We know where we know where we are twelve hundred forty eight what should be the goals over the next six weeks here with this team wanna see consistency. I think so Kevin Knox. You'd wanna see what Frank ntilikina as you're still trying to answer that question. You know, one one and a half almost two seasons. Enter France career, he should get healthy at some points to from this point. I think it was the next to kiss him significant minutes trying to answer that question to try to see if he can be elite guard. What did he do off the ball and where he used offensively so between seven and Saint not some consistency. From those guys. I think the next like what they've seen recently from young player in literal Robinson who who's really played well, especially since the Andre Jordan has come over from Dallas Jordan has done a good job mentoring. Mitch robinson. So I think it's it's the young players on your team and being able to project them forward who is a keeper who can you pencil in for next year? And who do you think won't be around piggybacking off your point there? What's the the Knicks recruiting pitch this summer? You know, who they Bill that around is it around, you know, playing with somebody like Dennis Smith. Knox. Or like what how does that play out? Jordan because you have the two max slots. Pitches almost hey, come come here and tell us who you wanna play with right twenty nine hundred she class, we get that you wanna play with and Kevin Durant. Also simple. You want to change the narrative around. Golden State to win those titles. You come here. And you have success in New York you wanna title in New York. I mean, that's a forever thing doesn't staffers outside of Madison Square Garden and no one. We'll talk about how joined that Golden State to win your earlier title simple message. Anybody else? It's tell us who you wanna play with. We'll try to bring that guy in. That's the voice of in Begley are ESPN next report. And that's reporter upper east coast. Reporter you're listening to insiders. I'm Bobby marks Jordan Schultz ESPN radio ESPN app and Sirius XM channel eighty now. Talking about obviously, the potential free agency this summer. Those are all big question marks largely because of the trade deadline, sending Kristaps Porzingis opening up two slots, but tell me how worried were Knicks fans watching Duke UNC this past week in. Knick fans are still watching the Knicks games. I give them a lot of credit assume most expensive watching every night. So. A big sigh of relief. I think I'm this fanbase when you found out that that sign injury wasn't that serious that he's going to be okay. Because this record twelve weeks at this point. And they're just looking ahead towards the trash and like every other bottom. Feeding MBA franchise. They're looking at nine what you've seen how he can impact their roster. How much he can change the fourteen organization. So, you know, certainly everybody around here was relieved when they found that he was okay. The interesting thing so Zion and wherever the Knicks end up in the draft in the top three. They hope is could that pick then help them creed. With the woman's Francis us, I think that's something. That's that's certainly on the fan bases minded. I'm sure the front office is thinking about different permutations packages. They could put together including that twenty nine team first round pick to try to entice New Orleans Detroit. And before we let you go. What do you think Zion playing in Madison Square Garden would look like do you think it would be just the new coming up LeBron or even even bigger based on his highlights in his dunking ability. I remember the Jeremy Lin Ron and how much energy was in the building night in and night out. How much of the event every home game was your masters. I think it would be just like that. But even more so sign Williamson was here. Because you know, he getting the franchise all three player people talk about him as a prospect the same way, they talks about Davis to bring that kind of talent into this building would give this reasons for optimism something they haven't had in a long time around here in. I look forward to our shared slice of pizza. I know we've been pushing off that day for a long time. He's been the best pizza apparently in New York. But before we let you go last, but not least we have awards given out for the MBA insiders and honors of aren't Oscars. Have you been watching the Oscars tonight? Because I've been at the. Is your feed though, you saw here. A little bit here and there, okay? This has been a Mahershala Ali love fest on the show, but we actually have awards given out today on MBA insiders throughout the course of the night. I want to get your vote for the last category that we're trying to push best leading man. Are you ready for this vote pleased? The nominees are Janta Takubo of the box. PG thirteen Paul George of the thunder James harden of the rockets and Kawhi Leonard of the raptors who is your best leading man right now. I would go right now with John giving Milwaukee's records they're standing in the conference in the role that he plays on that team. I think he's most deserving of that honor at the moment all of Georgia's a close second. Given what he's done for the thunder

Anthony Davis' dad sounds off on Celtics: 'I would never want my son to play for Boston'

"So Anthony Davis requested a trade from the New Orleans. Pelicans still does have a year left on his contract. His father did make some news the other day when? Anthony Davis senior said I would never want my son to play for Boston After what they done to Isaiah Thomas. No, loyalty guy, gives his heart and soul. And they traded him. This is just my opinion. He said I've just seen things over the years Boston. And there's the loyalty will really there's no loyalty in sports. There's very few times in sports where you see this great amount of loyalty, I can't kill the Celtics for the Zeya Thomas situation. Sure when a guy has been through all that when he's someone that is easy to root for is it tough to trade him, absolutely. But will you gotta give them a max contract just because you were loyal to him. And and give them a max contract and your quired a better player, and obviously with Kyrie Irving. But if you would have given him a max contract and the way that his career has panned out man, and you have been looking foolish, and and I get it. A lot happened with them off the court. He was an inspirational story with the injury blade through. And and all the family situations. With what happened to his sister? I totally get that. It's tough to make a move like that. But sports are roofless. And we know that. So I can't kill the Celtics. And I can't say I agree with Anthony Davis senior that. Anthony Davis to play for the southeast because there's no loyalty he can't get too caught up in the past. Here's what we know about the Celtics. They have a very good group eventually is going to be some players area have to be broken up. And Kyrie Irving may not be coming back that could be a possibility because before the season started Kyrie said, hey, I'm coming back as long as you guys want me back, and now it's a totally different. Tune in you, see the scene at the garden the other night where knick fans are regular play for Kyrie Irving. But we'll see what
