That's it. They will not get the good news. But they don't take it. Then the next weight, they'll get the good treatment. But in the control group, no matter what they do, they never get it. And so that's like they need that. To show. I'm waiting, I'm waiting. I'm still not going to get the really good thing that's behind there. Yeah. But here's something else that's really interesting. They decided later to do kind of a version of the Wisconsin card sort. And so I don't know, this is like a classic test that's given in neuropsychology and neurology. For executive functions, like a frontal lobe, like if you're looking at frontal lobe dysfunction. And it's an interesting paradigm, but basically it's about pattern recognition. And then we switch it up on the patient. And a patient who has a certain type of dysfunction is going to perseverate and keep going back to the old pattern. It's going to be hard for them to switch into a new pattern. They did something similar with these cuttlefish where they use different shapes again, and they would learn that this shape means you get this treat. And then they would switch it up on them, and the cuttlefish that were the best. This was, by the way, this was a small sample size. It was only 6 cuttlefish that they worked with. But whatever. You only need one to show that they have capacity. And so they showed that of the 6 cuttlefish, the ones that performed the best on the card sort version were also the ones that picked up the marshmallow test the fastest. So clearly you also saw a range of cognitive capability of intellectual functioning within the cuttlefish. But the question has been why? So with primates with corvids, researchers think that the reason that they need delayed gratification has to do with tool making. If I want to get to, if I want to be able to eat something or to be able to have some sort of reward, but I need to create a tool in order to get it or use a found tool in order to get it. I need to be able to see multiple steps ahead. And I have to delay my gratification. But cuttlefish have never been observed to use tools. There was another one, another reason. Oh, they also don't like cash food, right? Like they don't hide food around and then find it later. So they were like, that's another reason the delayed corporation would make sense. You need to be able to see that. But they think it has to do something to do with how they look for food. So cuttlefish use camouflage. But they can only on camouflage or they have to un camouflage when they're moving. And so they have to be really smart about when they go out to actually search for food. They have to be patient. Patient. They're protected when they're camouflaged, but when they're going out to get their food, it has to almost be premeditated. They have to really planned it. So they wait for a good food opportunity. Exactly. It's worth it to go. Yes, instead of going out for poorer nutritional quality or food opportunities that they're not likely to catch, they wait until they have a better opportunity. And they think that that's why they won't develop. That's cool. Yeah. My understanding is that chimps don't do well on the marshmallow test. And the interpretation of that is because chimps exhibit a behavior that researchers called greedy. Right. They can not forgo what's in front of them. Even though even though they learn that if they wait, they'll get more. Even knowing it, I don't care, I have to take this thing right in front of me I want it right now. It's really interesting. Yeah, because chimps also, I bet you and I bet you bonobos do well on the marshmallow test, probably for similar reasons. I don't think I do well on that test. I'm not good with delayed gratification. I wonder how you would have done as a kid. Probably terrible. You think? Yeah. I'm always fascinated with weird linguistic little rules and things that we just sort of inherently know and that aren't necessarily taught, but that make complete sense. And there's these, there's these rules in English, and I think every language has it, but English is pretty good at having these implied rules that you never quite sit down and learn, but they become obvious. If I say Pong ping or splash splish, it feels weird, right? Yeah. Or if you say zag zig. That's just wrong. It's just wrong. Is that also just because we're so trained on this? Reduplication rule, the unwritten blout reduplication rule, reduplication is a thing that happens linguistically, and there's 5 other examples of reduplication, which we'll get to in a minute. But this rule, they don't know why. There's theories. There's some ideas about why when we do tend to pair words that sound similar in that way. The short vowel is first followed by the long vowel. You should just enjoy the fact that that was an incredibly fun season, but I mean the Nick sometimes it was like Kevin Knox was it for a little bit and was it for a little bit and it was like they or it feels like they're so quick to a point kind of savior sometimes and sometimes the people fall out of but they also have really fun guys. Like a manual quickly is awesome, and maybe should be even more popular nationally. But okay, so let me jump in. A manual quickly. He's on my overrated list. What makes you think that he's so excellent? I think it's more so than I think he's so fun. I'm not saying that he can't improve as a player. I also think that it's like it's funny that he is like stuck soap behind so many backcourt players that I don't know, maybe if he was in a place that was trying to develop him a little bit more. Now it's taken off a world of its own okay. So now i guess from that video. I had was on the back page of the daily news today. Yeah i gotta find out what this means. And i didn't bother googling it. "My mom on the other hands is a bit of somehow opposite personality or on or not completely She's an architect she's mainly When i was doing a lot of windmills and churches Funny business but she was working in a company that mainly this kind of stuff. She has been doing lots of house since then as well so when she she started working for herself and An apartment buildings and lately scan of hitting she's making a practice now for an organization that scare of autistic kids Just sort of at the end though for Work let's say but I think i'm personally very much a blend of my parents. I really like building stuff. I understand that technical aspect of stuff. What is that's probably the the two together but where Where i'm maybe ill up some frustrations with my data's and stuff. I always like more To make concrete to build it for people not necessarily excited about the technical aspect by itself but more like what it can be for people and When i was a kid. I always liked to build whatever whatever it was a doubt the boulter camp in the woods or whatever the latest or or creating something in the drawing some saying or or creating a thing in whatever legal dick nick corrin knick's over coupla are gonna stuff. They had back in the day or just out of nothing But the first moment that comes closest to what i do today is When i was fifteen sixteen. I had been playing with. She'll cities websites for awhile. I don't know whether you remember dole's but it was kind of Very entry level so the websites you say you could say that the weeks of back then but but way more Basic stuff where you had some some decks and then you could make a little menu and then you have like some animation Very basic stuff an account at the baltimore dont'a so it's you're the so and so visitor to this site or something. Yeah okay yeah and that sort of got me excited for websites for secretaries city stuff and at some point i discovered like how you could make them in. html encinas us very basic back. Then if you wanted to create anything wool you had to use flash flash. I started building websites mainly in flashed widsom. Acm alan has surrounded. But that didn't really come into play and build one for so myself and build one for my mom like Showcasing some of a projects. And i started building a bit more widely and at that point i saw myself becoming a web designer and having a designed company and that's sort of where it started for me thinking okay i can i can date my My interest in building stuff might technical backgrounds and do something for people.

There are lots of different varieties of Of psychologists. There are clinical. There are counseling. There are Little psychologists. Whole variety, and over the years there have been sports psychologists in the last three decades or so. And, uh, But that has expanded to actually include not just Ford, but anyone who's had a performance arena the research around What enables people to perform in high stress environment. On Dad actually executed the highest levels possible. Our mission at the institute. Which we started in 1992. Very research based approach and Mission was to help individuals and teams perform to the highest level possible. In high stress. Extreme environments brought to do so without ravishing or undermining their health and their happiness and That was our mission, and the whole idea is focusing on this. Very, very critical element of human performance. So you've worked with. I know a lot of work class performers give our audience just an idea of what kind of domains have you worked in on Also, maybe some sampling of some of the clients and I know some of you can't mention but maybe some of the Athletes that you do mention in your books. Give us give our given one of flavor of who you've worked with. We've worked with. It's really been a Living laboratory of high performance We worked with The most extreme environments in the military Special forces. In the FBI had a terrorist team area. We've worked with surgeon surgical teams, all kinds of critical care workers. We've worked with 17 number ones in the world, um, helping to become number one, um And some of them we had our own facility there in Orlando that actually had its own tennis complex and We had, you know, some of the most renowned head upstairs in the world train there. I also was at the Knick Voluntary Tennis academy and set up a research. Institute there for six years. But you know, in tennis people like Jim Courier and Monica Salad Um And, uh, whole variety of Offers, Um You know, from Marco Marriage to the present day I still worked with a number of Level professional tennis players and golfers on both the men's and women's tour. We worked in professional hockey people like Eric Lindros and Mike Richter. We've worked with Lead performers in boxing like Ray boom, boom Mancini and these are names I mentioned because they've all been very public. Um, in the news, and they don't have any issues with it. Most of them I don't talk about on a public venue. Um Dan Jansen of was an Olympic gold medalist, trained with this for two years and became an Olympic champion. We've had just a magnificent I've been very, you know, really, really lucky to have this laboratory. Helping us understand how do people do extraordinary things? How did they become extraordinary from just being pretty ordinary people? And it's been, you know, really, really exciting for me and all of us that Human Performance Institute. When we see people break through And do things that in many cases they never thought they could be. Oh, And releasing that That ability to extend way beyond the limits of what They believed in. Perhaps a lot of even their coaches felt were possible for them. And if you were to put your finger on one thing that all of your students have gained from coming to the human performance Institute. What would that one thing be? Well, I go back to really what are probably you know, your listeners are probably going to think this is rather simplistic, but I'm a day to die. We I'd like to follow science and I like to follow the big gate of trends and look at what's happening and what we learned. Maltese high stress venues. Is that all we were doing? Help him perform better under pressure. Woz to help them become healthier. Become healthier is human beings in all dimensions, Physical health. Emotional health, mental health. And even spiritually health, and that's what we did to help them do these extraordinary things. Just help is what ignites performance that was a major breakthrough for us. Wasn't anything special other than try to progress. What should people be eating? How should they really dealing with their own storytelling with their cognitive processes? Spiritually these air all the things that We focused on and we looked at the whole person more than looking at the athlete or the special forces person. Has is a separate entity. We looked at the whole person and the entire Uh, kind of fabric. The most. That's what that person represented in the real world and tried to deal with him as a person's first and as an athlete second. So Um, That was a long, long time before we have that understanding, But we really, really felt that was a major breakthrough in our thinking. It's what the White House has been forced and compelled including with bipartisan pressure in the Senate to reveal what is not in public tonight but we are already getting vibes and energy and mood about is the entire whistle blower complaint that blew the lid on all of this and I can tell you in just the last few hours that was privately that is to say under the classified rules turned over to the intelligence committees in Congress and they are dealing with the complaint in private so I don't have those details for you but the Democrats who have reviewed it are already saying it's troubling had the opportunity as have members of the committee to read the whistleblower complaint. I found the allegations deeply disturbing. I also found on them very credible. I can understand why the inspector general found them credible. Even without the benefit yet of the inspector general's full analysis analysis. That's a reference to the trump appointed official in the intelligence community this inspector general who under the law deemed this urge incredible people that got us to this point. Adam Schiff basically saying that while he's not yet able to reveal the details of what's in this complaint we have some of the mood music from the White House notes and and he's waiting to get more from the people blowing the whistle inside the trump administration now those members of Congress got. This whistle blower complaint the right around the same time. Donald Trump stepped out there and tried to keep all eyes on him at this press conference and we cover a lot of these. I'm only going to show you parts of it that we deem newsworthy or that are relevant to fact checking checking but it was not a typical trump press conference. He seemed at times meandering as I mentioned earlier beleaguered but he did in his own way. Defend everything about what even some Republicans are saying incriminating in the notes of this call which was very innocent call very very very innocent very nice. Call fact Lindsey Graham said to me when he read very interesting. Good man is a smart man. He said I can't can't believe it. I never knew you could be this really nice to a person. I didn't think you had that in you to be so nice. It's kind of like the mob boss who says I've been good to you right. I've been real good to you got to me. They used to prosecute my bosses this if you gave this to me. I'd say it's a typical typical transcript of what I get that I would put into evidence in the course of a mob boss trial. It is right out of Don Corleone. He goes through this in talks about how the Europeans have not been good to him and then he goes on to say look look at but the United States is very very good to Ukraine. I wouldn't you say that it's reciprocal. There's a -serily because things are happening are not good but the United States has been very very could right and he wants. He wants what he calls favor and the favor is doing something just so. We stay on this for everyone watching because there's been so many things it's happening. The favor is something that if you were ordered to do it it would be an unlawful order in the United States. Is that correct. That's correct if you had if you if you had a boss when you were. DOJ and they I said I want an investigation of political rival. Go do it. That's an unlawful order totally. I'm off so what happens. Donald Trump makes that order and tries to execute it through Asia Bar. He claims in here mentioned five times abroad well. It's just a stewart crime. I mean the crime is committed here in the United States. It doesn't make it any less. It's a crime and in fact this impeachment. Inquiry shouldn't be just looking at president trump. It should also be looking at a bar. Do you think people who and we're. We're not there yet because we're investigating if US officials tried to carry this out do they have criminal liability. Absolutely I think they they would have to be worried and now we have to do remember when William Bar testify when in his confirmation hearing and Senator Kamla Harris said were were you ever directed to open an investigation by the president right in your conversations about getting this job and he becomes bizarrely you unable to understand the word suggest right he in this he paused and says I'm. Political rhetoric in that context is let's look at Donald Trump back when the American public was assessing him. This is October twenty sixteen and he said had this is his playbook. If I win I'll get a political investigation of my political opponents knicks. He believes a bass bass could be illegal to carry out. Anthony Davis senior said I would never want my son to play for Boston After what they done to Isaiah Thomas. No, loyalty guy, gives his heart and soul. And they traded him. This is just my opinion. He said I've just seen things over the years Boston. And there's the loyalty will really there's no loyalty in sports. There's very few times in sports where you see this great amount of loyalty, I can't kill the Celtics for the Zeya Thomas situation.
