It was news. WE'RE GONNA share it with you now and it's important. It's dog related you guys so you might remember a few episodes ago we had their. DNA testing done we sent out Willie's DNA and we got the results back and then we thought well this is really cool. Let's let's get banjos done as well so we did and we got the results assaults back so we're scrolling through banjos results and one of the things one of the features of the embark test is it shows you the other people people who are the other dogs whose DNA is listed in their system that have DNA match to your dog so like we saw Willie had a forty eight percent match to iota and a forty eight percent match to Mr Meatloaf in that's equivalent to a human relationship like a parent or a sibling so then we got banjos. DNA results back and we're scrolling through again and of course my favorite part is seeing the animals that are related to the pops because I get to compare how much they look like them be like Oh. This one looks just like Willie right among his brother and then I freak out and crime so when we're scrolling through banjos relatives we noticed Mr Meatloaf but it looked familiar rush it did and so I went back to Willie's results and Willie had relative named Mr Meatloaf. It's the same Nestor Meatloaf that they're both related to well not just Mr Meatloaf. There were like four or five zero four or five dollars so what we determined was the Willie Willie who came from Arizona and Banjo who came from Maine share family from the Wisconsin Illinois Area Wisconsin Slash Illinois their cousin bears the they're related and not just distant relatives. They're very closely related again like parent sibling type of relationship relationship. It's crazy well if their parents sibling with Mr Meatloaf then Mr Meatloaf was parents sibling too so it would be more really cousins. Some parents siblings okay. There's a there's an extra degree there. There's an extra will smith which by the way is another unit of measurement here on the box of oddities grilled grilled cheese sandwiches and will Smith's so that's the big reveal is that through Dan through DNA testing. We have determined that William Banjo are related even though they came from the complete opposite sides of the country anyway so just take a moment and sit down. Catch your breath after that news and cats going to tell you you a story. Oh okay so I wanNA talk today about Catherine Smith also known as Kitty Smith. She was born into you a Chicago. Family October twenty nine eighteen eighty to her mother and father were English people but her father I became a naturalized citizen of the US in eighteen eighty two. She had two older brothers and a younger sister emily so at the age of nine. Kitty's mother suddenly passed away and she was left in the care of her father and her father was not doing great he was having having a real hard time keeping one his temper in line and to his drinking to a minimum so drinking and temper right so often when they go hand in hand for for real now there are conflicting reports about what happened on. Thanksgiving Day eighteen ninety one neighbors reported that that Kitty had refused to do the housework that was left after her mother had died or she wasn't doing it to her father's specifications specifications Jimmy right right so her father beat her and then held her hands to lift stove until her hands and arms were burned so badly that they had to be amputated. Oh my God how old was she. Nine nine years old now Luder reports show that Kitty stated that what had happened was she was sent to the store to get booze for her father and she had tried a little herself and then when she was filling the stove the heat plus the booze to a nine year old body led her to pass out into to the fire so she was covering for her father. It could have been either way. I don't know physicians and surgeons said that the bones of her hands and arms were so badly burned. They amputated three inches from the shoulders. I mean you would have to leave your arms in an open fire for an extended period of time even crematory ovens. They have to bust the bones up with a hammer holy crap. I mean that's not saying that. Her bones burned down to dust. Just you know frame of Reference Okay. Yeah so the Humane Society of Illinois took took the matter up and arrested Kitty's father after a trial he was held the grand jury and the final trial in the spring of eighteen ninety you too. He was acquitted for lack of evidence so main society the people you adopt puppies and kittens from now. I don't know I think at that they they may have been connected at one point. I'm not sure sounds like maybe her father should have been neutered. I mean I think that that's the case for a lot of people but every time I suggest that people get all weird airborne birth control Emma right anyway so but she also had burns on her neck and her chest but they weren't that serious she was discharged from the hospital in February of eighteen ninety two. Oh so I mean that's four months in a hospital. Can you became a ward of the Children's Home Society of Illinois for several years specifically specifically living in the home for destitute and crippled children and it was there that one of the doctors Mr Greg took an interest in the story surrounding rounding her and as this time rolled around Kitty's father had waived any rights to her so the doctor created a an Education Fund for her it was called the Kitty Smith Fund and it proved to be six. S and donations allowed the doctor to bring in specialized staff to teach now armless Katie how to use her feet to accomplish specific tasks. They didn't call her armless. Katie they did knox walks cruel however even by nineteenth century standards when I was searching the web for her Kitty Smith Armless. I'm Lou wonder was how I found her so I mean it's not that far off so kitty became very skilled in writing with her feet she also I loved to draw and paint she could also play piano she could type she had embroidery skills and the Fund Soup Sup- I know like I can't embroider with my hands so she left in eighteen ninety six and that fund helped support court her it paid for her board when she moved to Wisconsin to attend public school it said that during her time in the home and in in school she saw people who she felt were far worse off than she was and she was grateful for what she had and the people who had supported reported her through her life so she had kind of this boundless gratitude and sweetness to her even though she had a lot of right eight to be angry so by nineteen o five kitties fund was exhausted and she was not eligible to draw from the state any longer her her family had all kinds of disbanded. Obviously her father was not in the picture and I think at this point he had died anyway. her brothers were low paid laborers brewers her sister had been adopted. She wasn't going to be of help to her. So Kitty resolved to support herself so she began to kind of humbly. Capitalize capitalize on her tragedy. She started selling drawings and pamphlets about her story. The pamphlets distributed were accompanied by I a return card. There was a little slot in the return card where you could put a quarter. If you wanted to help support her okay which is so clever and since she made these pamphlets on her own if Bri foot it was very inspiring what made and the optimism that she you showed and the determination it really did it got people engaged and they were happy to help and by one thousand nine hundred six she had amassed passed over thirty five thousand dollars in quarters. Yeah this chick was the real deal she wrote. I have never had a lesson in drawing or sketching acquiring the little knowledge I have on the subject by practice using a study which I place on the floor at the side of my drawing paper. I sharpened. Oh my pencils opening and closing the knife that I used to sharpen myself again. I have injured myself opening a knife with my hands and you've almost been arrested did it. Tsa A number of times right kitty was able to dress herself brush. Her teeth comb her hair. Do all those common tasks. She could also accomplish rush. Common household tasks sweeping mopping cleaning stoves etc amazingly. She could also play the piano as I said she could do semi-skilled skilled woodwork. She made bookcases desks and other furniture completely by herself. Wow beyond randolph. This kitties story moved people because of her attitude who she was so positive she was an optimist and she considered herself really really lucky in life so kid he founded the Kitty Smith company where she employed a bookkeeper. A stenographer and a dozen envelope stuffers are so and she she wanted to help kids with disabilities overcome the things that they were dealing with and she was using her story as a as a way to do that that she was kind of like a motivational speaker but she did not live in a van. Dome right largely by the tenacious and very persistent efforts efforts of Gracie Wilbur trout and her cohorts in one thousand nine hundred twelve through one thousand nine hundred thirteen on June twenty-sixth nineteen thirteen win then began being allowed to vote on presidential elections that scandaleuse as well as many other elections so in nineteen thirteen an estimated the two hundred fifty thousand women voted in Chicago with Kitty leading the way so kitty was the first woman to vote in Chicago Kogo and she did it with her feet. No that's amazing yeah so in a book she published She sold old reproductions of her drawings and embroidery all done with her feet is there is a photo of a quilt that she made all the pieces this is for which she cut and sewed herself and she wrote in that book toward those who've helped me in the past. My heart is filled filled with boundless gratitude and to you who helped me by buying this book I shall answer and say barely I say unto you inasmuch such as Ye have done it unto one of at least of these my brethren. Ye have done it unto me. She was just really great grateful. She he was grabbed. She was right full of Gratton. Yeah that's incredible anyway. That's the story of Kitty the Armless Dynamo who was the first woman to vote in Chicago so what else happened in her life. I mean you said she started her own company. Did that continued you to help people and yeah that's and that's how she made her living was by writing books and `and making art and showing people that you don't have to be bound by the parameters that typically we think you are. That's a remarkable story thought so and now it's not a very long one but I just thought she was so inspiring. I woke up this morning cranky because I slept on my hair wrong. I know and it was all on one side doing that. WHOO thing yeah and so how do I feel like a Douche as well. You should know that thing in the middle this thing in the middle weird wrong numbers that people have gotten number five. I got a wrong number. Hi Katrin Jeff Throw it just listened to today's episode and I wanted to write you with some follow up two cats story sorry Theodore Donohue now. He was the guy that we talked about who was recently arrested. Do deal that's right now now. He hasn't been found guilty that he has been arrested for the suspicion of murder and apparently you will grew up just down the road from dill he writes his house was one. I always walked a little faster past and which gave off the Erie reaced feeling due to his reclusive nature. Donahue's nickname in my house was the turtle man as you can imagine this story has been the main topic of conversation in the neighborhood and hearing it on the box of oddities was delightfully surreal. Love the podcast thanks for reading. Thanks for sharing will no kidding. I WanNa know about got any encounters. You had with this dude over the years and screaming. I love that you live near to him. You could be our box bodies investigative reporter feel like if he had hung hung out with Dell probably he would have mentioned it but maybe he knows somebody who has hung out with Dylan had. Maybe maybe maybe it's the two degrees of separation to will Smith's them mm-hmm all right. Here's my topic today. It was actually inspired by one of your old jobs. Okay mowing graveyards. Yes yeah I knew it yes. I knew it wasn't gonNA be working at aim's which is a defunct department store. Yes you actually worked in a graveyard. Well several yeah for the town and you just mowed the lawn. That's right. What a great job. That must have been it was Gloria just had the place to yourself where you WanNa riding lawnmower now you did it by hand. Yes that sucks well. I mean there's a lot of INS and outs. It would be impossible to to manage a full cemetery on a ride on on lawnmower. You'd have to go in and do so much trim work that it would be silly anyway. So why not just do it right the first time that's why a lot of more modern cemeteries aries only have like the memorial stones that are implanted in the ground they call those places memorial parks as opposed to cemeteries series and it's much cheaper to get a plot in a memorial park because it's easier to maintain yeah. I would imagine for sure now while you were working there her. I imagine you know you never really mode at night. No no it was daytime work. Would you have mode at night if they asked you to. I guess I mean anything creepy ever happen. No never not once they were few places where because this was an old town like a small town and there were some really old cemeteries that that I worked at so there were some that were kind of tucked back into the woods and of those some went far back and then they'll really old. stones were way back and they were kind of away so there were some spots that were maybe a little darker. Parker during the day. Maybe a little cooler than you'd expect. They kind of have that quiet eerie feeling but no nothing ever weird happened. We'll these are experiences very ince's that people who work in cemeteries and graveyards had that were if not just creepy out and out unexplained explained and this is according to rancor one guy says that a number of odd experiences with our crematorium one such instance was in Twenty Twelve Elf following the service of a very large man roughly three hundred seventy five pounds. I got the retort which is the Cremation Chamber preheated needed while my wife set up movie for us to watch while the man was being cremated I use the elevating platform and then slid him in closing the door to the retort afterward in going to sit down now about five minutes after I'd shut the door to the retort. We heard a thump. Neither of US paid much attention but a few moments later there was another and then another I stood up worried that the men may have had a pacemaker still inside of him however it was unlikely because he had had all of his organs removed during an autopsy the thumping and the thudding got more hurried so we ran over and we looked through the front window of the retort and could not believe what we were seeing. The man inside was flailing about both of his arms and legs were bouncing around like he was in extreme pain now. It isn't odd to see parts arts move well. Somebody is being cremated. They're breaking down. They will often contract as muscles and tendons will snap yeah well. It's like you know a bonfire would burns it shifts. It moves there. I mean it's like anything else that Burns it as it breaks down. It's going to move he said but this was most decidedly not that the man's fingers were balled up in fists and he was banging against the windows and his legs seemed it'd be kicking downward as if trying to get out the man's mouth was open and first groans began emanating from within and then they ultimately became screams screams. There was no way absolutely no way whatsoever that he could still have been alive but for about twenty seconds after we'd gone back up to the retort the man inside the cremation chambers screamed and flailed his arms and legs about I mean did you would you have like opened it and and just to act or were you kinda like committed yeah. That's a good question. what would you do comes. John Key ONA's Probably I'd have to open. I think that my curiosity would I don't think it would allow me to just let it continue without investigating gating further yeah. I don't know I don't know what I would do. I think probably the right thing to do would be to investigate it further but I'd probably just go back and washed the rest of caddyshack which is nice I think now the guy writes that his family had owned a cemetery for nearly five generations and he said I've been working there since I was twelve the House that my family built on the properties about thirty yards back from the main office one night when we were kids my grandpa and my uncle were up late. Mongol happened to look out the window and swore to my grandpa that he'd seen somebody walking behind one of the trees. The lamppost illuminated the very first handful of plots and headstones on the other side of the road but at that point they everything was fine. It was nothing suspicious this going on. I could see my GRANDPA. My uncle stood at the window for a little while. My GRANDPA ultimately teased my uncle for being scared however when they woke up the next morning the police were there in the hours between when they looked out the window and saw the burial plots undisturbed which was about four. Am and the time they noticed the commotion. I'm from the police at about seven. AM seven plots had been dug up. The headstones were stacked very deliberately like a house of cards and and behind them. The caskets were top one another. I one lying flat the next one straight up then flat then straight up then flat Ah. I don't believe this even a little bit. How would you even manage that like most casket have rounded sides and they wouldn't stack that way. It's just physics he he says with basic casket dimensions taking into account that was about thirty feet high now he says even with Machinery Henry in the present day it would take at least a bit more time to accomplish just digging up seven graves but back in the fifties how this was done in one hundred at eighty minutes with no one that lived in the house right across the street hearing it is just it's it's impossible to explain or impossible or impossible to explain that's right. You've already said that he was there. You weren't there. You don't know the read it man no picture this another cemetery employee said that she was originally hired hired because the cemetery had a period of time where they experienced some people sneaking in to perform certain rituals she said. I was twenty one years old doing this as a side job with nothing to protect myself. I was given a barcode scanner and was told to drive through the entire cemetery every hour on patrol into scan. Each of the pre posted bar codes to prove I was actually doing it going through the the cemetery and checking it now. This cemetery was massive pretty pretty much broken down in three parts the newer part the historic part and the famous part where celebrities are buried did the routine once and never did it again. Going is is going so far as to break the Barcode scanner so I did have to do it. While I was driving. It was pitch black coming around a long curved road. My headlights picked up the sworn where a pair of legs walking across the path but only up to the knees shoes pants knees and then absolutely nothing I stopped in the road and just watch this pair of legs cross about ten feet in front of me what kind of pants though probably core Roy thanks so I think ghosts love Corduroy. I like the swoosh sound that it makes sure it's spooky. One day I was chatting with an old man in the Muslim and he was rambling on about his wife in in how her crypt looked so nice with the marble and such and he had his hand resting on the niche next to hers and he kept saying this is where I'm I'm going to go. After we parted ways I looked at his spot and he was gone in on the marble was his date of death which we only sandblast death dates after they've been entombed creepy that is creepy. Maybe it was like one of those wrong number situations where the guy was just confused and he was like this is where I'm going to go and it's like okay grandpa that could be maybe it wasn't even his wife he was visit. That's right exactly could have been a total title stranger in fact he might have been in the wrong cemetery. We don't know don't know don't know Claire. A different cemetery employee said one afternoon my coworker and and I were walking the paved roads inside the cemetery with a trash bag looking for litter. We came upon a particular area of the cemetery. Oh my God it was covered in vassal lean gene. How did you know did you look at my notes. You're all neatly stacked on gravestones ghosts. Thanks very horny. Ghosts we came upon one particular area of the cemetery. They had a lot of mausoleums and took the next lane around a corner that goes along side of of one of the Muslims as we rounded it. There was an older gentleman may be late sixties early seventy standing with his back against the side of the mausoleum just looking at the plot of graves nearby two things were kind of weird about him. He was dressed off. His clothing seemed to be out of date. He was wearing a papa accord roy jacket in eighty degree weather and one of those newsboy type caps long pants button up shirt but when you think about it a lot of elderly people kind of dress in out of update clothing anyway so I struggled off the second thing he had a coffee mug. He was drinking oughta thermos. Not a styrofoam cop with a lid an actual ceramic coffee fi mug that he was sipping out of right in the middle of the cemetery now. That's probably odd for some people but not for now not for you and me no not at all. I mean our both of our trucks. Trucks are full of ceramic coffee mugs. That's what I carry with me constantly. Do I have my keys. Check purse. Check Coffee Mug. Check back that was part of the design for that. that container you were going to build for the back of your vehicle was the store. All of the empty ceramic coffee mugs no plan for being a disgusting hoarder. It just happens pens that way so it's nature not nurture well that doesn't apply in any way here so anyway this guy standing there and his corduroy jacket drinking coffee out of a ceramic mug. ooh. Ooh Does it say something like. Don't worry be happy or world's best GRANDPA hang in there. I waved to him. He smiled and waved back. I kept walking. We only a few feet away when the other girl said that was a little weird and we both look over our shoulder back at him and he was gone. We stopped and kind of took a few steps back to see if he'd walked around the mausoleum but we couldn't see him anywhere. COUPLA days later we showed up for work and found one of the regular workers there. Let them know that we were there. Are we talked to him for a few minutes and I brought up seeing the old man by the mausoleum in the section the groundskeeper just kind of smiled and ask me. Did he have a coffee mug. We said yeah he said Yeah. That's our ghost. He's not really there so we pressed him for more information. He said that he's always seen that guy. In in that spot for years looking at a family plot always has a coffee mug always wearing the same clothes he said there is a grave for a wife and two daughters and the husband spend that he stares at do you think he was the husband or was he a love and he was staring at his loved ones grave and his illegitimate children listen while the body of the man who she was supposed to be committed to laze rotting and not knowing that his wife was A. Ne'er do well. Oh God I didn't think of that. That's maybe a time traveler. You ever think that that's true. We could be a time traveler at the time traveler or a Ninja. The husband's grave said that he he passed away in the early seventies and his wife and two daughters graves passed away a couple of decades before and the three of them had the exact exact same date of death the mother in the two daughters so they think that this this guy is their dad the spirit of their data bad or at least a residual haunting maybe for years he came and stood there and had his coffee and spent some time with his loved ones and it's still happening to this day or that. Woman was a dirty slot. Listen just because you're a slut doesn't mean you're dirty. She could have been a clean slot. No slut let shaming here anyway. It makes me want to get a job at a graveyard. That sounds really cool. It was one of my most favorite jobs. I loved it. Just the the piece of not having to talk to people. Would you like put your ear buds in and just mow the lawn. I WANNA job like that. It was Gloria except on a riding mower. I don't WANNA have to walk. You've you've got to focus on the quality of the job that you're going to do and that you can only get accomplished with a with a push mower. You did that today here. I'm exhausted said watching him o our lawn lawn today it was about I'd say four weeks overdue. I would say at least that I have mode once this year well well that was going to bring that up without sounding like. I'm condemning you in any way because I haven't motive all right you in years and years and the reason being I have allergies agrees and you sweet woman took it upon yourself to to do the the mowing and trimming oddly. You're not allergic to snow yet. You don't shovel that. I'm allergic. Coal them see the rash I get It's blistering out there. I'm just glad I'm not allergic to art furniture. I don't get Atta spent a Lotta time here. Okay 'cause I'm sitting in it a lot. Okay me bum would have Arash anyway. That's all I got for you today. You know when I was like. Wanting to twenty-five. I wouldn't have any concerns because I didn't have any responsibility. I had no family I had no kids. A MOM and dad lived in New York I played in Sacramento Houston, I know they want and always possibility, but you know thirty year old. Kenny had a family. You know kids to mom and dad was frequently visited. My responsibilities change so I would have more thought classes. Like should I be down here like today. This Kenny's like Oh. I. Don't know about need to be in a bubble. You know what I'm saying, too many responsibilities so that that's where. I think it changes. Upon your responsibility when it's when it's only about you, you, you feel like you superman like nothing ever happened to me so I'm. Like but As as as you get older, you go man. I could affect so many other people. Kitty Smith joining us here on the morning show. Obviously, this is unprecedented that we had about three quarters of the season played. We're GONNA play a little bit. And then we jumped right into the playoffs with the teams that were the favorite prior to the quarantine. Still the favorites coming out of the coating. Is it still the Lakers box in the clippers are those still the teams to be as we restart. I would say that keeps the beat I. I would say that you know I. Remember after the start of the everyone's like man. This is about seventy eight hundred decade winning all. That's what it feels like to me. It's like. That season's over. Then you, you get three and a half months off of anything. That's a new season. So guys have come in to. Firstly, a players are really coming in now a second year players. Guys will come in the second year third and things of that Mr, so the experience they gotta have a different feel for the league when they come back in this in this after this quarantine, and it's really like a a once a month and a half point of it. This is that's what to me. It just feels like that's season's overt, and we got a month and a half tournament right now and we're gonNA. Do the best out of this corner. With with that being said though Kenny. These teams that. Those seven teams that we talked talked about the beginning of the year. They some of those seven teams at least four seven teams steel without the Kawais lebrons. The ADC honest, is that don't change, and as long as you got those dudes. It seems like you would have the edge. You, think about this. Big about not forget what what we what we remember. This say okay. We saw look at excite. How good when he'd be the next year. That's how he's been drop into this bubble. He's not dropping in that bubble. That Luca weeks remember. Say Okay. He was there. And now he got the spirits the next year. This is how he's going to look. That's three and a half months. Off Season for the NBA. He's coming back in his third year. He's not coming back. As a second year got John Eavesdropping in that bubble now? As second year player, he's not coming in as the rookie rookie of the year. He's coming as a guy who knows the league. And, coming in a second year, my my cookie here for my second year average I think both twelve points that's jumped to eighteen like Virginia's. This no stockton like to go here. Guys Peyton like do this. When you come, take a robot. You just know the League, so you can get your scoring. Your ability to score is just a little bit better, so those guys are coming back way different. I was told you is Cherry picking. That to. Sit A lot of people don't know or don't remember. Major hops if you participate in the dunk contest. Wendy's your hops disappear, and COO would. This is Germane to what we're talking about. And who do you think is going to revert? You talked about who can increase during this break, but who's going to revert because it has break. I. You know I. It was one day I. Don't if it's not like. Discount, it just happens like all of a sudden when I used to get a steel. Steel or let's say. Like like. Did you, catch it on on the sideline. You take that back to see WHO's chasing it. Yeah, and then when you look back, you see everybody's Kinda like You can't. We can't touch. You can't catch. All of a sudden you take that picture and you look back and you look. Everybody thinks they could catch you. Wait a minute. Am I slowly dowse? That's what it is. It's like it's like a subtle a subtlety of like guys. Case you. That never would chase you before and so for me, that was probably about. Here dying. Here nine La- guys like. Chasing me. So like I, I think younger teams will have an advantage to bubble a little bit only because they worked out to be ready today. You know most. As a vet you out for the. Season with the grind. Is You know how much you got energy? You have to reserve, so you have to change them and Talia workout. You gotta be dropping. The BRAS teams. Typically always didn't. Start great they you know they descend so he? They don't have that much read. Kenny Smith joining us here on the morning show Kenny we saw Patrick. Mahomes sign that giant deal with the chiefs. Who if you had to make the decision that you're GonNa? Give a guy all the money ten years. You're going to build not just your franchise, maybe the whole league around the player. WHO's that guy in the NBA? Johnson and right now he's the guy like. He! He does so many different things that control the game I. Think you know there's a lot of great you know scores our league, but very few guys who still to control the game on both ends of the floor where defensively you really have to pay attention to everything that doing in passing lanes. He's there. For blocked shots, and they're very similar to what came along was for us. You know in Houston like you always have to pay attention to them on both ends of the floor. You know obviously Michael was the ultimate of that. You know where those guys are. Both wants to play a year. That MVP's so like for me. That to me is the. Ultimate. Give all the money. What about Anthony Davis? I would say. Close I am. To be a better for me. just in terms of. He's proven that each do it by himself. Like. Go where he's taking it team to the Eastern Conference finals. And he has been the only he. He didn't have that secondary. Giant superstar. You know flat out superstar. You know. Chris Metal titles really player, but don't would say. He's a flat out. so I would say the ED's goes to Janas just because of that. A. Jet Obviously here in La were is a really on the. Lakers interns hoping that they can get this thing done. My question is besides the front runners. Who Do we need to be concerned about? Young teams. DALLAS. You don't be worried about them. Posing and Luca, GonNa look different. Boston. GonNa look different with Kemba Walker. Walkie. And Denver those four young teams. I have an incredible chance to shock people. And walk out with the Larry O'Brien and go. How did they do it? Dallas. Like Boston makes sense to me. MILWAUKEE OBVIOUSLY DENVER. Because you really think that Luke is gonNA come back. That much better than he can actually win this thing. Let let again. Let's take a take away our mental. Of the continuation of last year. We say okay finished that season last year the way he was. We, take, be an MVP candidate. I, mean I mean yeah for sure. It won't be ready candidates that means he's going to be playing at the highest level and I think well one month. You telling a guy playing a college season. Say Look. We're not playing a full season now. He's GonNa Play College team. And you play hard. You can in college season. I, put my I put some money on Luke. Kenny Smith joining us here on the morning show jet. I know you've got a basketball camp in online basketball camp coming up. The Rock and you know obviously basketball is the easiest sports has A. 'cause you can play you. Do it one person or you could do with ten, but you know with most sports you need other people. Fastball is one of the only sports that typically you don't need other people to be better at it, and you know it depends on your position and other sports, but for me I just thought it was important to continue to develop vent, so we got the old man game we. Version for you to. My. You know. Ninety. Except We had almost last sister Williams. No? Not. Dot Com. Kitty? Smith Kenny appreciates coming on. Thanks so much. Sir Got Guys. I. It is official. The snake draft results are in plus Julian. Element has a solution for the Sean Jacksonville. Tell you what it is next the morning show on seven ten ESPN so we've gone from. The Sean Jackson posting what he posted antisemitic comments to Stephen Jackson. Supporting Him and saying that he was speaking the truth and trying to educate people, and now we're onto. Big Time bomb in our on to the next one, which is Julian Ehrman, who went and put a video of talking about? His experiences as a Jewish player in the NFL, and what the remarks to him and what he would like to do with the Sean Jackson in light of these comments, here's Julian settlement. I've been getting hit up by everyone asking me about this Sean Jackson Post and I wanted to take some time before responded because it's a complicated issue and I wanted to be awful. I wrote down some of my thinking. I've seen to Sean in his career. Make outstanding football plays communicated over social media. I've got nothing but respect for his game. I know he said some ugly things. But I do see an opportunity to have a conversation. I'm proud of my Jewish heritage and for me. It's not just about religion. It's about community and culture as well. I'm unusual. Because I. didn't identify Jewish until later my life. Whenever. I encountered hatred. It never really felt like it was aimed at me. It was only after I was part of this community that I learned. How destructive is! anti-semitism is one of the oldest forms of hatred. It's rooted in ignorance and fear. I remember experience a little bit of this hate in two thousand eleven. When I was called a cake on the football field. There's no room. For anti-semitism in in this world. Even though we're talking about Anti Semitism, I don't want to distract from how important the black lives matter. Movement is and how we need to stay behind. I think the black and Jewish communities have a lot of similarities one unfortunate similarity. Is that they are both attacked by ignorant and the hateful. It's really hard to see. The challenges of community can face when you're not part of it. So what we need to do is. Listen. We need to learn. We need to act. We'd have those uncomfortable conversations. If we're going to have real, change. So to that end. The Sean. Let's do a deal. About, we go to DC I. Take you the Holocaust Museum. And then you take me to Museum of African American history and culture. Afterwards! Grab some burgers and we have those uncomfortable conversations. So. That's Julian Eshelman. Kind of saying hey, why don't we go to this together? And I like a lot of what he said right there, but I felt was important. I think one of the things that Steven Jackson had gotten wrong in his comments. Is he saying that we can talk about this year? And then we can talk about that here. Just talking about this doesn't lessen that before talking about Anti Semitism. It's not taking attention away from the social justice is going on right now. The Black Lives Matter Movement I think that's where Stephen Jackson got in some of the the deeper into the pool. This idea that you can't talk about this without talking about that. You can't separate the two. and. A big. That's why he has issued. A different apology now because he's probably step back from it realize oh I stepped into something that I probably should have been in. I was trying to really get this message out after discharge Jackson so now let me correct the situation. Julian element did the right thing. Jillian invited an invitation for Sean Jackson get educated on exactly what he thought he was talking about which he really had no idea what he was talking about I, mean he took so quotes from somebody else in credited him to Hitler when that wasn't even the case on top of that, you now have put yourself in a corner to make all of us question. Were who are you? What are you about? What do you stand for for real? And so when you look at those situations here, we are today still talking about a foolish stupid. Dumb. I don't want to call it an idea, but a dumb tweet or post or whatever? It was that he put out on the social media. For us to now have to react to that. You're right. I mean it's. It's all just a big distraction from where the energy and the focus needs to be at and. I understand wanting to be a part of this movement especially if you are. After barricading. You have some resources. You have a platform. You may feel compelled to want to get involved. But I hope decides. Jackson's situation is a precautionary tale for everybody else going forward. That the whole Hitler thing. Like, listen, there's no good that comes out of a statement quoting Hitler. Just no good unless you're talking about hateful evil double of people. There's no good that can come from it. So. If it's been done in the past, it's been done right now to Sean Jackson going forward. I hope everyone now knows this. There's just no good at comes from this and all. It does undermine any good that you're trying to do. Because while John Jackson may have incident to this conversation with all could intentions, nothing good has come from him entering this conversation because of how he chose to come to this conversation, and is unfortunately even Jackson Giddens, then separate the comments from the attacks. And now that's completed, and so now he looks bad, but at the end of the day we just need to get back to talking about black lives matter. We need to go back talking about the changes that a lot of people are trying to do to make this world a better place. We need to be spending more time talking about the clippers owner. Steve Bomber and the hundreds of millions millions of dollars that he has invested in trying to uplift. Lives that have been disadvantaged. Fantastic Pete in Los Angeles Times about all the things done spending hundreds of millions of dollars of his own money, trying to make the world a better place. We need any spending more time talking about the people like that and less time talking about people who are trying to fend Hitler comments. Well that was the part that look key and I know that you've said this a few times and I hear where you're coming from the to Sean Jackson is. Coming from a place where he just doesn't get it in his uninformed in, he's out of touch or however we WANNA characterizes. To history and Hitler? Okay. Stephen Jackson's a thoughtful guy. We've seen Stephen Jackson talk about this stuff a lot. We've seen Stephen Jackson. Be All over TV in light George. Floyd and everything that's happened subsequently, and he's been very thoughtful very eloquent in this, so when he comes out and says it does Sean Jackson was speaking the truth and just trying to educate people. It's really hard for me to separate this guy from those comments because this is a thoughtful guy. This is a guy that thinks before he talks. This is a guy that is willing to. Opine on issues, and the that's the. Lane, he picked to go in. Really stopped me dead in my tracks. Because this is, this is if the Sean Jackson was just not smart enough to know what he was saying. Okay fine I i. Guess You can convince me that I don't think he can convince me that Steven Jackson Jackson stupid. But I'm not trying to convince you a Stephen Jackson what I would say by Stephen Jackson is when you jump into somebody else's mess. In doing it maybe out of frustration. In, being fed up and you just say something then all of a sudden. You realize Oh. Let me. Go back in and last night. He had to go. We went on CNN, and he explained as I said earlier on the show. I I I didn't even know seeing him, but then I wanted to know. Deeply I said he wished he had explained hisself what he was trying to get at. And then once we played the clip. I understood okay. He thought that Jackson was trying to talk about the Eagle situation, but he jumped into it without really paying attention it it. Kinda bit him then he had to explain it was about the Philadelphia. Eagles Iran Cooper, and what the Eagles chose to ignore. We Riley. Was it ever until he brought it up? Excuse me. I don't think it was right and that this was never about Riley. Cooper in the eagles until Jackson late at the two but I think, but I think why. He inflated the tooth because he didn't do his homework at the time that he issued his posted Boughton I'm with Sean. He's speaking the truth based on that. I believe that he was thinking that the Shah was talking about the eagles the eagles handle. handle the Riley Cooper situation. That's why said he's only speaking the truth. And he was speaking the truth about the way the eagles handle a riley cooper versus other black players including shot Jackson. That's what I took from his apology in in going back and cleaning things up. That's the way I took what he thought. But when you dive in to somebody, else's Miss, and you not sure what's in that water. You go keep it. and. That's what happened to Steven Jackson Govan inserted hisself. It is something that he probably shouldn't inserted itself into without thoroughly investigating it, and then it wind up biting. Key made some great catches in your career, but don't ever made one like this until you what it is next morning show on seven hundred ten ESPN. So is it a fissile Raj? Can I take my? Man Let me tell you about this. There will be no three P. Right. Yes Go. Within. One shot of the catching zeo right? No, you're. Behind Yeah on net refund you getting their ads right? Coaches, football coach, they lead a playbook state. I'll tell though body. They did in the middle of the night. That's what I was just GonNa Start taking stuff. Vietnam, Assu. For trying to use a intellectual property. Prompting more lady antebellum. Who Won't get to Old Lady coming up. The try to tell my stories on air. Key Kasumi Travis he's going to sue me. Trying to say that you know mysterious. was his idea all along. Cereal that's fine. That's all yours keep. What's the best catch you ever made in your NFL career? Do you remember one like just that? You kind kinda surprise, yourself or something. I know. Has So many of them Travis. Does just you know you got to nine hundred kids in career in the eleven year careers so many, but there's one in nineteen, ninety seven in this is amazing that I never see to highlight on any of the NFL shows or anything like that, but that's okay because I'm GonNa. Make I'm GonNa make them bring out that highlight this year it's against the Miami Dolphins in Nineteen, ninety seven. Going I'm going in the end zone going from from left to right an shallow cross. In they're trying to throw the ball, neal was trying to throw the ball to bet in the back of the end zone and I was coming underneath. It I didn't. I know the play. I knew the play and everything, but it didn't look like the trajectory of the football was actually going to somebody. It was like he was throwing it which I. Honestly Picky was just throwing it out the back of the end zone. And I just stuck my hand up. In jump. In mid-flight in it stuck right to my glove. Bam one hand I didn't I didn't bring the other hand in nothing to clutch. It stuck abroad broadest straight down like upon the basketball flat-footed Ryland right in the end zone touchdown. It was one of the craziest catches that I haven't made my career. That's a great catch, and that's scored a touchdown, and that is something that I'm sure you'll bring to your your new show that you can show over and over again, but you did not save a three year old. Phil. Really wanted to be in that one that would fit. That's an amazing catch. Philip Banks Twenty eight year old guy. He Played College football down here me at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. There was a fire in the building. and a mother was getting ready to drop her child out of a third storey building. To get out of the fire until you know, that was the better option. And Philip banks ran to the site to see if he could help and caught this kid who was thrown out of the window and saved his life a three year, old kid, being thrown from three stories up. That's the greatest catch that I've heard in a long long time. and honestly it. By doing this and I don't WanNa. Be around five by dropping out the buildings and stuff like, but I think if if I was put in that position. All, make their grab I'm. If I'm put in that position. I'm GonNa make their kitsch because that's a life or death situation. It right I mean you don't sure hands. Stole hands is Raj may be I believe. He makes Kitsch. Well there was another guy that was getting ready to make the catch. There was another guy there, and this is. This is what Philip Blink said instinct. There wasn't much thinking i. just reacted i. just did it the guy who was there with me. It looked like he wasn't going to catch him. So that's why stepped in I, just wanted to make a better catch, so he realized there was a guy with bad hands, and he stepped in to make the. World Travel. There is one catch not to poo poo. There is one kiss that we saw last year. That was better. And that was made by a seventeen year old boy, who was walking down the street and just happened to notice. A baby was dangling out of a window I had to look it up because I knew I saw something that was very charming. I remember he's this guy that threw shade. Nelson Galore. No No, no, no, no, no, this is! This is the guy who was over in. Turkey and he was just walking down the street and happened to notice that baby was dangling out of a window to baby fail and this guy seventeen year old boy as common. It's coolish all. Just caught the baby and like just kept it moving like he was like nothing. I'll show you the video absolutely amazing. The baby was on the Ledge. Right yeah yeah. And just. I mean. I don't know like I could see myself as having pretty good hand eye coordination. Sorry I'm watching the Keyshawn I. Don't need. I. Don't know how block that out. Don't know how you block out the life or death aspect of West about to go down in order to make that kind of kids. Maybe just click in right. You just have that moment where you're most lizard. Part of your brain just gotta get their decision to make that decision, but if I ever and put it in a position like that I'm you know? I'll be, confident. For Show For sure coffee by is. Key to make sure your exaggerate. Or, have you found and you said? I'll send it for social and enough Senate to you guys as well. But I got a whole bunch of now. Are Gossip stood? Brand. Hockey I go. Out again if you won't. have been ask if you just want to put a three hour together it watch it on ESPN I can do. We know. Number Seventeen, right you. That's how you got the number seventeen all right We've talked about this before the name change in Washington. It's GonNa Happen, and it's going to happen fast because somebody flex their muscles. That's next on the morning show on seven ten ESPN now. That key, not bad travel ban. I now know I. Now understand why they call him me shod. I'm. And is clearly not meant for him is. Not. Swear to you. I swear to you. My mother's grave on my life, it was not meant from impede. Hill that was being for Qui. We practice. Practice everything right so I know all the plays. I'm the outlet on the other side, but if he thought his down watch what I do. I. Unlike hair array God's green earth. Lord. To. Really. Look at it. I don't know who to play. It looks like a tiny industry. Now. Is One. Way He had his hands up. He thought for sure announced coming to him I'd like Ahdab key you just that's. Getting Ready to be on TV and. nope watch this. You. WanNa know why he's the double picking the trap. Not. Too, bad all right. We've talked about this and we knew that it was coming. We knew that once all the big money guys were telling Washington's football team. Hey, you got to change this name. This is GonNa work and they said well. We're going to discuss it. We have in depth conversations well. This is going to accelerate the process Nike says. We're not going to sell your stuff. Walmart says we're not going to sell your stuff. Target and Dick's both said. We're not gonNA steal your stuff and then yesterday Amazon basically. Basically said. We're not going to sell. Your stuff can't move any merch with that name on it without logo on it. It's a rap. They're going to change it and they're not to do it sooner than later. Because the whole point of this is, they want to sell the t shirts, caps and the jerseys and all this stuff, if no one will move them, if Amazon and Walmart and target and Dick's and Nike I'll say well. We're not going to sell it. That's it. It's over. Yeah, but here's what I would say. To that Travis, they're getting it off the shelves because they're getting ready to re stock with new stuff anyway, so they already know. Let's just get it out of here. Because new stuff is coming, we may not know those conversations right, but I'm sure that Dan Snyder in in in Washington I. Don't even know what to call him. I was about to say the Redskins. I'm trying not to say it. In football team. Has had conversations with some of these advertisers and some of these. Big companies that push their merchandise in there, saying okay, this is what we're GONNA do until you're ready to give us the new logos in new merchandise, but we're GONNA. Take this old stuff off our damn shelves. They have. Let. It be known that the plans are now reportedly. It's removed odd native, American imagery from the logo, but they do plan on maintaining the color scheme. So now the latest is that team plans on scrapping. Travers basically using. Native Americans as a logo and they do still plan on using the color scheme and I. I know the Color Sky Bet. Costumes cool. I'm I'm happy to see that we've got here. Is Sad to me that it took so much financial pressure for Mr Snider to do the right thing. I'm sorry I'm not going to. Always tolls were doing the right thing. To pretend as if he's some sort of hero or leader new conversation, but I'm going to acknowledge that at the very least. He looks as if he's. Finally stopped using the slur and try to give us the Okeydoke like it's some sort of like in a good thing. You guys seem honor. That he has something ready to go, because it can't be a surprise, have the eventually somebody who's going to force his hand, and it was the economic rating there was A. Sheet of paper and sample. What are we? Already, but here's here's what happened in what I would believe. What happened is that they've worked on some stuff over the years. That people have come to him with in these conversations is not yesterday in fact L. Z granderson broke something many years ago about this. SHAMELESS PLUG FOR L Z, but he got some stuff that they've already seen. They have an idea of the direction in which they WANNA go. In there revisiting again, right going to revisit it again because again to just jump in and try to rename NFL because. If you come up with something and I. Don't mean to put these guys on blast, but whatever if you come up with a name like the titans? Tennessee. Team to change the name they went from the oilers to the titans. They've rebranded that team will titans is about generic in May is. You can come up with it's just it's like wildcats or something. There's just it doesn't have something to it, so you'd like to have something ready to go. Because eventually the name that they do have was going to have to go, and it's not just something generic like that. Well we'll. We'll come up with some names for them there let us come out some names that I would like to see the Washington lobbyist, but that's just because liberties. But let's let's come up with some names, and then we'll send. You know Mr Snider these of the social media. Some gestures, so they don't get you know a boring name to your point, Travis now. If I want the lobbyists traffic, I'm going to assume he wants to watch it and. Now. I want something that is embarrassing for Dan. Snyder I want something that reflects his. He's been the owner of that for the better part of twenty years and I think. Playoff Games. So how about the Washington twos I`Ma. Like. You you can go to Washington shorties. You can just put like the Roman numeral. ooh, the side of the helmet, the Washington power trips. ooh, the movies to PT's. So? Do you think the watching certified? Hundreds would be good for Wayne has been so no. Well you'RE GONNA. Have to come up with see. It's not just the name you gotTa have a logo that goes along with it. That's why I think the twos is a good idea. You can have the little Roman. Columns right little to this is how many playoff games I win every two decades it works on. What what would be what's in the? What's what's in that area? That would be. Historical kind of like what would what would be an area that would be historical. You look at what they've had with the figure of their hockey team. It's the capitals think the baseball team hits the nationals. You think of the other baseball team. They had before they left. They were the senators so all the stuff that the names they have the wizards aside it has to do with government right. It has to do with the fact that it's yes. That's what what? Why sitting the lobbyists, The Washington lobbyists you that, too. That's that seemed like this doesn't roll off the time, yeah! It sounds to political. The thinners, don't he's? Right they're done. People like wait. What does that you get used to something and obviously the name they have now needs to go the logo they have now needs to go, but just throwing something against the wall in lesage, generating is GonNa Really Rub people the wrong way. BOX164: Can I Have Your Liver Then?

"Stories of mysteries of curiosities Jew in what follows may not be suitable for all audiences listener discretion is advised stories eh on September second nineteen forty four a squadron of US Navy Avenger aircraft appeared over Japan's Bonin Island Spiel Lake they'll think that I've stolen something or they're insulted that I haven't purchased something so so you're mhm harder I need all this stuff anyway did you find your replacement punchy because you're in the courthouse I think it's the same way that I feel like leaving a store without having purchased anything I I always appear inside the box oddities I think it's early money obvious who's Amazon shopping chuckle thing I haven't yet I can't decide on one so many different styles to choose from I get to go first today a yard sale and it's like let's say acute elderly couple I feel obligated to buy something even if I just buy it they come on leaving a yard sale without buying something is the worst feeling it absolutely is because really what you're saying is I don't want any of your shady stuff now they're either going to be offended that you you couldn't find wears worthy of your purchasing or that you're a thief yes exactly jethro on the other hand the Art Deco Speaker covers lately mine has been all like a violent keychain type things items are who's like when you look at our cart is a real it's a it's a interesting mishmash if you will you can definitely tell who's it away I I wanna I wanna be nice yeah you don't throw things away wait now you're making me out to be like a hoarder and I am not a hoarder I'm a collector thing that you have interests thank your beneath my personal tastes what am I even doing in your yard sometimes if I go to oh I definitely say Bonin I know that's why I love you so the squadron was tasked with destroying a radio station affect his yeah I'd never thought about that but yeah an impartial person looking at our Amazon orders list would go yep cat that one she ordered the dog toys you already feel so weird when you go to the courthouse and I don't know maybe it's just me like I can't go have to go to court ever even if I'm totally not on a very very small island called Chichi Jima to give you an idea of how small this island was it was about twice the size of central Park Japanese soldiers on the island began an intense antiaircraft attack the counter attack was successful is the the last time that we were at the airport my key chain was taken away in the time before that I lost my key chain at the courthouse and it fault you feel guilty the plaintiff right I understand for jury duty and I felt guilty doesn't make any sense it is weird worst yard sale oh my God you're so right about that what is it you're gesturing wildly there and he's all your shadow on the wall two thousand and three the pilot that did escape told CNN the plane the plane was burning the cockpit was beginning to fill up with smoke the plane was I thought they they shot down nine. US pilots in airman eight of them were captured only one escaped years later in and Bonin islands well could be bought in but I thought Bonin would be funnier to be o n I n how would you say that thought it was going to explode I dove out onto the wing of the plane Oh but not as far as I should have then I pulled the ripcord to me in New York City and there were there to destroy a radio station they run bob and Sheri before they could complete their mission order now according to the Telegraph the pilot survived because he ditched his plane further from the island than the other crew members did and he managed parachute too early and what happened was I hit my head on the tail of the horizontal stabiliser of the plane and it didn't take long before I was in the wall to scramble onto a life raft and paddle away from the island whereas his fellow crew members and and and peers it'll toward the island at that time American planes launched a hail of fire at the Japanese boats and the Japanese troops on the island ailing you're there because you've not done anything wrong did it makes their duty doing your civic duty and yet you still feel guilty somehow in cross now the other eight servicemen not so lucky and this was not known until recently while researching his book fly boys and vomiting and bleeding from his head wound I can imagine that was a pretty nasty Gash I'm sorry he was vomiting in the water swimming in yeah the results of author James Bradley's historical detective work he was able to piece together the horrific truth from which had set out to capture him they were able to drive the Japanese back and he was eventually rescued by a submarine so when you're ready various secret transcripts of the war crimes trial so I'm sorry just clarify there were nine soldiers all on this plane and hop on that how that works I mean it's kind of like in my head it feels very cartoonish but is that how will the pilot said when the blackhall a plane got it there were nine total one guy got away the other eight were captured by the Japanese thank you for clarifying not a problem now the one that was puke swimming was the only one that didn't make it to the island Well I think we're three planes okay I'm sorry three people on each hugh by a submarine is that like do they just toodle up to to the top of the water and open up the hatch and Japanese officer Major Sumio Matoba hosted a sake fueled feast for officers including the commander in chief of the island Japanese medical orderly helped the surgeon prepare the ingredients for the The feast Dr Taraki I took out the guys adding to the secret transcripts of the war crimes trial that were given to the author James Bradley by a former officer and lawyer who was an official witness at the time the USS fin-back surfaced in front of me. I thought I was hallucinating. He told a researcher in television film that he had deliver and then he removed a piece of flesh from the flyers fi wing about six pounds measuring four inches wide about a foot long included a very rare delicacy human flesh according to the court records of liver according to the witness Matoba told him I had it pierced with bamboo sticks and cooked with soy sauce and vegetables and they aided in very we're freshly dug grave blindfolded made to kneel for beheading by a sword this according to the testimony by a Japanese soldier veal their actions at the war crimes trial in Guam NBA executed for them the families of the victims would never know precisely how they're stories of of this type of activity anyway another crew member Floyd Hall he met a similar Fate Admiral Knievel Maury the senior from realizing the Oracle way that they had they had perished it wasn't until Bradley published fly boys in two thousand three out of the nine shot down to escape or members being pulled aboard the submarine he asked himself I wonder if I could have done something different after he was captured and this went on for several weeks but after a three or four week period captain she's Oooh Yoshi who was later tried and executed one of the eight captured on the island by the Japanese was the radio operator his name was marv immersion now he was marched that's not a typical thing though with Japanese though is it no I would venture to guess this was an isolated incident I can't recall ever hearing others he received from bashing his head on the on the rear of the plane as he was ejecting gavel puke anyway he goes he would go on to be awarded the distinguished flying here's this paddling through his own vomit that is kind of nasty to think about but but that's what bothers you more than that gaping head wound that he why me why am I so blessed why am I still alive that's gotta be hard the name of that pilot was George Herbert Walker all p pieces believing it was quote good medicine for the stomach a third victim of cannibalism his name was Jimmy Dye he'd been put to work as a translator did it destruction in nineteen it's an obscure eighties pop song for you Paul hardcastle and nineteen at sounds terrible naval officer on Jima he told the court that major Matoba brought another delicacy to a party at his quarters especially prepared dish I did one by being just clubbed to death well Japanese officers responsible for these atrocities would eventually ones died they probably yeah the US decided to label the files recounting the soldiers last days top secret preventing the families now dead themselves Mr Bradley contacted other family surviving family members he said their first reaction was stunned silence hush but I think that at last knowing how these men died however horrible their deaths has allowed closure and in a word that I heard from them healing he said now the only pilot off CNN and the book fly boys by James Bradley and we will put that on our good reads page wow there you go right like this this idea but I didn't know all the details somebody almost eight him wow was twenty years old aw at the time I think about the the ages that that people are going to war at and they're just babies and I was such an response and I'm paraphrasing here but he said basically when he told former President Bush the news he just see that the that the general public would learn what became of the pilots it wasn't until two thousand three the parents of all the airmen that perished were in two thousand and three delivered that news to George H W Bush and he said that the Bush who went on to become the forty first forty first president of the United States I knew that I recognized at least workers weren't allowed to talk to each other outside of work oh that's a way to encourage workplace bonding number three pen sat there quietly and very stoically and said something to the effect that those were great men and they serve their country well cry listen to one thousand nine hundred sixteen by motorhead in deed got my information from all things interesting dot com the telegraph uncalled for the airman's liver to be served at a party for fellow officers and parts of a fourth airmen Warren Earl Vaughn were also eaten and the remaining four were execute during World War Two but I did not know that he was the only survivor of those you were Coa and this again at the war crimes trial when the Flyer was struck he did not cry out but just made a slight grown the next day strange thing about that song was about nineteen year olds dying in Vietnam but it had a hell of a dance beat is really weird yeah my thanks Malakhov obviously I had heard that George Bush was the survivor of a plane crash yeah well anyway there you go now now that thing in the middle here's some ridiculous workplace rules particular company weren't allowed to turn left yes apparently some mini boss that worked their head decided he had heard that ups that real people shared number five at my old job you had to stand in a very specific area while eating so they could see you on camera not wear double stitched clothing at work they survive and then to find out that this happened I mean I didn't know any of that that's not had you heard that his fellow airmen some of them had been cannibalized had you heard that now I guess the author is trucks didn't turn left because I guess they're more accidents are caused when trucks are turning left so he's he decided that they were going to do that will attire was mandatory even when working from home what business dress codes even applied when you're working from home from the supply closet where only available with the out of state bosses permission that sounds about right number two ambulance drivers with the ambulances now the guy goes on to say I don't know if ups trucks turn laughed or not or if it's beneficial for them to not turn left France they had finest a This crime occurred four houses were occupied while so it was a really noisy skate park sounds like it was the had been stabbed to death the killer then spent some length of time inside the home leaving Enough Evidence to Baffle Authority Commotion Dad came and found the killer having just smothered his son and the two fought the the killer then attacked Yasuko and eight year old Nina at some point during the murder of mom the bathroom window footprints from the criminal were found blow the window as well as broken tree branches just below it apparently the killers stabbed dad multiple times at damaging his knife in the process dad's body was found lying at the bottom of the stairs to the second floor kind of like a Sassy jazzy version of it I feel like that's the tune that would play on a keyboard that came came with the keyboard he came across he had with him a shoshee knife as well but for some reason just smothered the boy what what is she so when he got inside he smothered the six year old boy in his sleep as bunk bed which is the first one that he hung around and he helped himself to items in the fridge there was some beer in the fridge killer didn't take that so that leads police to believe that and daughter he had to go and get another knife because he had damaged his knife killing dad so he went to the kitchen edge and plentiful than the stab wounds to dad and that led them to believe that the suspect had a hatred of women yeah just drove them out two hundred houses wow so investigators were able to determine that the killer had entered through leaders and a bunch of skater allowed skaters Yep so in the family moved there in one thousand nine hundred the development held two hundred families but by the time killer had climbed the chain link the chain link fence beneath the window and gained entry there knocking some branches off in the process no no I don't know the theatre company's website was bookmarked By Mikio so the killer would have logged on Dan he sorted through credit cards bankbooks driver's licenses and other personal information he spread it out as though he'd been examining it sure and bearing mother kind of situation that you hear a lot about in movies in movies right based on their stomach words by the way I'm just picturing this guy blood splattered walking around with broken knife eating popsicles throw in through them he pooped did not flush Oh my God and then apparently was going through more paperwork while in the bathroom contents the time of the families death was placed at around eleven thirty pm so the killers in the house the family is dead but he jeter figured out it's like all right fair enough fair enough what do you go formby Oh yeah how yeah this sounds like somebody who maybe new them if he felt that comfortable in the house or just a psychopath where he discarded to other rappers after going through some personal documents the killer sat down in his victims charon needed no it's a very thin oh okay like like you fillet with yeah okay so probably having heard along with me think so so he wandered around the house as he ate the popsicles discarding wrappers in the kitchen trash can and also in the study fanny pack black handkerchief a hat scarf a down jacket and gloves. We WanNA. Make sure we're bringing you our listeners as much information as possible as quickly as we can. That's why we're sharing with you now. CNBC special report markets in turmoil listening. Good evening I'm Scott, wapner on day one, hundred, eighty, five of the coronavirus crisis. The US just had its worst day since the pandemic began. Shocker from the State of Florida seven thousand children are confirmed to have the virus. It's new evidence. Children are not immune. We're very concerned about clusters of people congregating areas that they're going to obviously be fertile ground that has spread of the virus Georgia Tennessee report record new caseloads. I am optimistic and believed that onto something that it's a very promising new vaccine visor shows progress on vaccine. But when will it be ready and will there be enough for everyone, please? please. Where a face covering when you go out in public, and what kind of mask is best, this CNBC special report begins right now. Here's Scott Wapner. Welcome good to have you with us on this Wednesday night. We start with two shocking numbers tonight. Forty eight thousand number of cases confirmed in the United States a new record and seven thousand, the amount of children who have now tested positive in the state of Florida alone since March Dr Scott. GOTTLIEB is the former FDA commissioner now a CNBC contributor he joins us once again Dr Gottlieb's good to see you. Let's begin with these cases of children in the state of Florida. How alarming is this? What does it tell us about? The age groups now that are susceptible to getting this virus. Well we always knew children were susceptible. The belief is that they're less susceptible than adults, so they're less likely to contract the virus than adults and that when they do get the virus, they're less likely to have a bad outcome. Data seems to support that, but they're not impervious to the virus. They do get sick. They get infected and we have seen some bad outcomes in. In children, we also don't know what it looks like. When this virus becomes epidemic in children, we don't know how many kids have actually had corona virus. There aren't any good seroprevalence studies to look for antibodies and kids to see what the exposure has been in children, and it might be the case that a smaller percentage of kids in the United States have had this infection. Infection at this point in adults on a relative basis, because the very first thing we did when we had these epidemics was closed the schools, and so that that closed off an avenue of spread, and I would venture to guess that parents with school age children were probably more here into the at home, mortars, wearing masks good hygiene because they were doing those things to protect. Protect kids, so might be the case that a smaller percentage of kids have actually been exposed, and so we don't know what it looks like. When this becomes epidemic and children in the same way for example, flu becomes epidemic and children every year, if the virus outbreak stays at the current pace. Are we going to be able to send our kids to school in the fall? I don't think so in the south. I mean if they don't if they don't correct the situation and they don't have a lot of time to do it in states like Texas. Georgia Alabama California Florida Arizona. It's going to be very hard for local school. Districts parents on boards of local school boards to make decisions to open those schools I think in the northeast we will be able to open schools in the north I. Think Parts of Northern California San Francisco be able to open a schools. We should really try do that. There should be an emphasis on doing that because we might be in a situation where we have to close the schools again later on. On in the school year, getting kids back to school socializing them, get him started on classroom learning. If we have to go to distance learning on a selective basis as outbreaks occur, it's going to be really important to get them back into the classroom. At least for a period of time, I think a lot of states in the south really have lost the opportunity do that because they have to make those decisions and July those schools open in August in many in many cases, and so they're probably going to start the year with schools closed in a lot of parts to those states. Do we know anymore Dr Leave about that syndrome that had been affecting. Growing numbers of children and we haven't talked about frankly in six weeks to two months. So there was a really good analysis studying published in the New England Journal of Medicine about two days ago that I would encourage people to take a look at that gives sort of a qualitative assessment of ninety nine cases in New York City, it appears to be opposed by real syndrome that occurs about a month after the virus. What we still don't know is what is the total number of kids who had the virus? We know how many kids had. This syndrome appears to be sort of a post. Viral Inflammatory Syndrome could be quite severe sort of like a Kawasaki Type Syndrome. When you get inflammation of arterial vessels it could. It could have disturbances heart. It's treatable, but we don't know how. Many kids are in effect with corona virus, so we're seeing one hundred cases, and there's been one hundred thousand kids infected, or we seeing one hundred cases there. There's only been five thousand ten thousand kids. In fact, it's probably the case that a lot of kids have had this new. New York City and it's a low incidence event and you do see these similar post viral types of syndromes with other viruses including corona virus, where you also see it on rare occasions, a Kawasaki Type Syndrome, with other forms of Corona virus, and so when you see these epidemics, viruses enter a virus echo virus sort of move through population. You will see a month later three weeks later. A preponderance of these post viral kinds of syndromes, so this isn't that unusual in many respects. We just don't know what the incidences of it. Let's drill down if we could on some of the hottest of hot spots in the US today, sixty five hundred new cases down in the state of Florida which we just discussed the governor dissatisfying. He's not going backwards. He's not going to shut things down. I'd like to remember what he said about his State Dr Gottlieb back in. May will react to it on the other side. You got a lot of people in your profession who waxed poetically for weeks and weeks about Florida was going to be just like New York. Wait two weeks. Florida's going to be next. Just like Italy. Wait two weeks. Well, hell! We're eight weeks away from that and it hasn't happened. We have flattened the curve. Focused on a truly remarkable job here because the people of Florida stepped up. Your governor your administration stepped up. You implemented the guidance, not just for nursing homes. But for every American. Dr Gottlieb turn back to you. Why has the situation in Florida grown so precarious? And what do you make of the fact that testing in that state is going down dramatically while cases are going in the opposite direction. Well Look I. Think we need to show a lot of humility interfacing virus. We don't fully understand. That's very contagious and wants to course its way through the population and become epidemic, and we shouldn't take anything for granted. This is a deadly virus. It's highly contagious. It's GonNa. Continue to threaten US until we get to a vaccine or we get to higher levels of spread where it just starts to reduce the transmission starts to be reduced because a lot of people have had it always start to take universal measures like universal masking where we're taking precautions on an individual basis on a wide basis that's going to reduce the spread now testing. is up substantially in this country testing well more than a half million people a day. That's going to continue to grow, but it's not a national testing market. It's very regional, so a lot of states have a lot of capacity, but they don't have the ability to move that capacity round, so when this becomes epidemic in states, like Texas or Florida, suddenly pressed in terms of their ability to expand capacity, and that's what he's seeing right now. You're seeing effectively under testing. You're seeing shortages of supplies and equipment to do the testing, and you're seeing delayed turnaround times, because Florida can't suddenly increase its testing capacity dramatically. You can't move the testing capacity. Capacity and Massachusetts Down to Florida really. The only swing capacity we have in this country is quest lab core bio reference labs, the large commercial national laboratory change, and they can only do so much to move testing into a market where there's a great need because they have a lot of obligations and other markets as well. We mentioned some of these stunning numbers at the top of our program. I'd like to read you a couple of others tonight and discuss the positivity rate now in Arizona Twenty eight percent. That is truly stunning California today with nearly ten thousand new cases Governor Cuomo here in new. York, calling the National Kovic situation today quote. Troll, you agree with him. We don't have control of this. Whether or not, this gets to the scale of what New York. Experience, which was truly tragic is hard to hard to say, but it's going to be hard to get control this. It's going to take some time. You, you say though that we're actually having perhaps ten times as many infections as we're recording every day if we're recording forty thousand plus new cases a day. Is that number four hundred thousand Dr Gottlieb. Four hundred thousand infections. CDC has said that as well. They said diagnosing him one in ten states with this epidemic would probably doing little worse. We're probably more like one in fifteen right now states like Texas and Florida Arizona, we see the positivity rate going up because they're under testing, so there's probably four hundred to five hundred thousand infections a day, and maybe two hundred to three hundred thousand actual cases symptomatic people. People many of mildly symptomatic, so they're not presenting protesting. We're GONNA. Ask you to stay with me. I'll be back to you in just a second. Dr Gottlieb right now. Pfizer and bio N TEK releasing positive results today from the closely watched corona virus vaccine early stage human trials this morning Dr Carlos. Del Rio is with the Emory Vaccine Center joins us this evening. Doctor good to see you. Thanks for being here. To be with you small study. We're talking twenty four people, but the results were good. How would you characterize them? Yes? This is a very exciting results it's it's a phase one study to another our vaccine. Just like the MODERNA vaccine. They did three doses at ten microgram thirty aggrement hundred microgram in lower doses that that were tolerated one hundred migrants to. was not well tolerated so somewhere between ten and thirty will be those going forward. They gave two injections to injections that were well tolerated and most importantly in both lower doses. They solemn neutralizing antibodies against the the binding protein despite protein that were many times higher than those seen in people that have recovered from coronavirus, so that is really very very encouraging, and gives the the go ahead to now start the face to study which have starting next week and pretty soon to start the face free study the efficacy studies so again it's another. Exciting vaccine together with the and the AstraZeneca moving forward a rapid speed to to face three. Can you say tonight definitively? WHO's in the lead in the race for a vaccine? You know it's A. I mean we're. This is a baseball game in. We're in the in the bottom of the second. It's hard to know who send the lead. People are beginning to have some hits, and or beginning to score some runs, but we have a long way to go I. Thank you know the proof is in the pudding will be in the face. Three and the face is really where you know the efficacy of the vaccine. That's really you know the vaccine. Yes. Producers neutralizing antibodies, but those neutralizing antibodies protected delay protect from infection. They protect from disease I. Think it's too early to say I think at this point in time all vaccines are about the same level, but the issue is going to be what's going to happen when we when we have the results of the face for him. We get to use your analogy to baseball. Can we get to the ninth inning by the end of this year? I think so. I think there's a lot of a push to get done and I, think also we're. We're seeing something. Totally unprecedented, which is the government has partnered bar with the companies to start producing does vaccine so millions of doses of the vaccines are going to start tweet produce before. We know they're effective, so by the time we have the results. Is Not going to be? Oh now we have to produce millions of doses. They can just pull him out and use them so my guess is that. Maybe it's not gonNA be one back seen we may have to. We may have three. We may have four that actually are effective in data in a way is good, you know doctor has said that we need a lot of shots on goal, or we also need a lot of those shots to be goals, so the more vaccines we. We, have that are effective. The better we're going to be because vaccinating you know three hundred million people in the US. Vaccinating six seven billion people around the world is not going to be an easy task. What's what what's a realistic timeframe to be able to do that? I know you said and we know we're. We're producing. These doses were testing them, so we can ramp up production, but what's realistic thing when we're actually going to be able to be vaccinating large large numbers of people. I think there's a hopeful and realistic hopeful is we know the results in sometime in November December? Some people say we may know them in October. You know people say be the Tober surprised right before the election saying we have a vaccine, but we'll know the results sometime around there, and then you know they're gonNA. Start Rolling it out to I. You know frontline. Frontline Workers California's do frontline personnel military, and and probably somewhere in healthcare workers, and probably somewhere in this spring to the fall to the summer of next year we will start vaccinating at a at a population that will I think that's the optimistic look. The realistic look is I think we're still about a year. We can actually say we're beginning to really do. Rod good to hear your perspective Dr. del Rio I appreciate your time. Thank you. That's Dr Carlos del Rio. Joining US Dr. Gottlieb, turn back to you I. Know You cannot comment specifically on Pfizer giving. You're on the board of directors, however more broadly. Assess where you are this evening in terms of the race for a vaccine. Are you as optimistic as Dr we spoke with? Look comment briefly on on the Pfizer results I'm very encouraged by the results that companies made a big commitment to developing this product I. Think the Doctor Mehta Fair. Comment that we need more than one company. Be Successful here I. Think Ideal World. We would have multiple products coming to the market. Because, it's going to take multiple manufacturers, and I think we all need to be very encouraged by the fact that very very large vaccine manufacturers are in this hunt, Merck Johnson and Johnson Pfizer Sanofi, so they're all working on products. How do we deal though with what the doctor just told us? As well being overly optimistic, versus being realistic is to win. We can get a vaccinations going to a very large numbers of people. I think the realistic scenario, but stolen optimistic one is that mass vaccination is going to be an early twenty twenty one event. I think it's going to be challenging to get a vaccine approved. Get the big face. Clinical trials done this year. We may be able to do it right before the end of the year, but I think we really need to figure that. We're probably going to have this available early twenty, twenty one and if it. It comes earlier. That's great, but we're GONNA need to get through the fall in the early winter without a vaccine. That's for sure, so we need to plan for that. I'll be back with you in just a second Dr Gottlieb Florida. Atlantic University today out with a study, judging the safety of different kinds of masks. MONARCH IS THE CO author of the research. He's with us. Live tonight sir. It's good to have you here. Thank you. Tell us exactly what you found in an issue now that has become absolutely front and center in this country. So we'll be found, was the ESA too far to you oversees the mosque. And we find that any kind of base covering helps to a somewhat. Different level of degree so for. Example? In with an uncovered call can. Travel up to eight to ten twelve feet of the small droplets within that can can go that far. Also signed droplet. A say abundant type. Accompanying that cannot. Stop stopping or slowing down and you can only go back for. But then you could take different types of minds. You find that they do much better. And the one that we found the best was a speech. it all depends on the fabric and the construction of the mosque. And the one that refined works best words A. Goto quoting? cotton fabric, and that tends to us. Create a good way of stopping a dope is. Getting through the BOSC. So one of the things that. We've refined the. Rag Muscular does help. But some of the droplets do escape from around the face of how well it fits on. Your phase is also important and so, what happened with that? Is that the If, it doesn't fit so well. The. Droplet escape from inside of the mosque. And they can then be carried away by Breezy suggests from an air conditioning system. But all what we find! Is that the? Using his. Method! Reading Muskie's. Useful and it does help it. Reduces the risk of. Spreading the the wire. In one way. Mr, doc I appreciate your time. Thank you so much for being with us. Thank you. I turned back to Dr Gottlieb. Now so Pennsylvania Dr Gottlieb is now requiring masks. Are we turning a corner? Do you. Think on the issue itself. Are we going to start seeing? More people than we have certainly in the past wearing these masks. I think so, and I think we're GONNA see more states. Mandate Masks I think most states are gonNA come around to that because the reality is. We really don't have an alternative. We're not going to be able to shut down the economy again. We're not going to issue broad. Stay at home orders as great reluctance to do that because we have a weaker economic picture right now that we're doing that on top of and so the only thing we can do. That's a simple intervention that can reduce the rate of transmission. shoves shouting. Things down is universal masking and so I think you're gonNA. See more states reach for that. What about the supply of masks and ninety five and and similar are getting better? We're getting better. But what's happening is a lot of states in hospitals. Now are stockpiling the and ninety five masks. There's not as much consumer channel. It is available to consumers right now you can go to websites like Accu maddened by those ninety five masks, so consumers can get them. They're expensive. They're between five and eight dollars each, but you can get an ninety five mask or hand. Hand Ninety five that has been cleared by European authorities, and so we should look for his masks on on the FDA's website that have gone through the testing with an agency called Naish where they've actually certified that they filter out the appropriate amount of particular matter, but those those higher quality masks are available and quality does matter here so the high quality masks do offer more protection. Ninety five masks are about ninety six percent effective in some studies with corona virus. Surgical masks are only about sixty seven percent effective, so there's the other masks are less effective if you gonNA wear a surgical mask, look for a level three surgical masks. That's the highest quality surgical mask that you can wear understand. I'm going to get to some of our twitter questions in in just a second I. Do have a final question, though and that is we? We didn't get to it last night. This new virus that is being talked about in China. What do you know about it? What can you tell us about it? As it's the last thing that anybody needs to hear nor wants to hear right now. There's something else to be concerned about potentially in China. Well, look, it's an H. One N. One virus was founded and pig. It does have the ability to jump jump species and become a human virus. It doesn't seem to be that virulent. Deadly in humans, and so that's one of the reassuring aspects of this, but we're going to see these emerging pathogens all the time, and eventually there's going to be another one that is able to jump species as contagious in humans and also more virulent. This doesn't appear to be that virus, but but it has concerning characteristics than it's just a harbinger of future dangers, and hopefully we won't have to worry about it anytime soon. Let me get some twitter questions if I could first one. Is there any anecdotal feedback on the efficacy of monoclonal antibody therapies and trials? Feedback in other settings we don't have any data yet. On the monoclonal antibodies that are being developed against virus, but I'm pretty optimistic, still that one more of these drugs will work the theoretical basis for why these drugs should be effective in setting as well established next question, there's clearly a spike in cases, and it's cause for concern, but if deaths are thankfully continuing to go down, are we overreacting to the spike in cases? Well look I mean. There's a lot of reasons because corona virus besides just the crude fatality rate. This causes a lot of morbidity. There was a study out yesterday. Saying a third of patients who are symptomatic had the virus was symptomatic and treat is now. Patient hadn't recovered hadn't fully recovered their function fourteen and twenty one days after. I getting tested for the virus testing positive in a flu study at analogous flu study, everyone had recovered after fourteen days. This does cause a lot of morbidity I. Think Tragically, we're GONNA see the number of deaths. Go back up because there's just a lot of infection, it is the case that the death rate are bill to preserve. Life is getting better and I would. Would expect the case fatality rate to perhaps be cut in half with all the innovations and treatment I mean we're going to see substantial improvements in our ability, preserve life, but what's still going to lose a lot of life because there's just a lot of infection next. How do you determine this is a good question? How do you determine if someone is truly a symptomatic? pre-symptomatic due to the viruses long incubation period. You have to wait I mean. There there is people who are awesome to matic and stay symptomatic and then people who are pre-symptomatic contagious when a pre-symptoms. Contagious point seven days before you develop symptoms so right before you develop symptoms on average it the case for most people. The incubation periods five to seven days, so we talk about fourteen days. That's the outlier. Most people are going to develop symptoms within five to seven days, so you're not going to be eight a pre-symptomatic for very long period of time, maybe a day or two last question for my son Dylan Dr Gottlieb. He wants to know when it's going to be okay to go to a friend's house again and play some basketball. What what advice would you have for him? Because he's not listening to the advice, I'm giving him. Look I'm letting. My kids socialize with some friends. I'm just careful about the social circles. I think making sure you pay attention to what the network as and keep it small is the most important thing you're not going to be able. Keep kids in the house in perpetuity, so we need to take some risks without children all right I hope he was listening to that Dr Gottlieb. Appreciated enjoy the holiday weekend. Scott Gottlieb joining US tonight now to Florida's devastated restaurant business, many having to shut down for a second time, Guy Clark is the president of Sizzler Restaurant Week, which was canceled with us. Live tonight, Guy. I appreciate you reaching out to us and. Welcome. That you've been having. You have a big food festival every year that brings a lot of revenue. That's down to zero now. It is sadly it is just had to canceled as you said. We're hoping that. Look better down the road. We can bring it back again. We're talking one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Perhaps that you would have lost this year. You probably have a really good read on the state of the restaurant business down there given the number of places that were probably affiliated with the festival. What can you tell us? That is true. We have over sixty to seventy restaurants that are participating with its event. Would restaurant week that we throw twice a year and the majority of them right now are scared. not just for the lack of being in the make money, but. Basically for you know what's happening in the health seat? Yeah, how's the industry to look on the other side of this? Do you think? That's going to be. I don't know Right now everybody's just trying to follow the guidelines. Get through and see what this disease is bringing to us with the viruses bringing. It's GonNa. Really depend on. Our trend is going. You see what's happening in Florida. Follow your tweets. I mean we're talking about a serious situation down in Florida which we've been talking about for days it. It only seems to be getting worse. How does that factor into the way? You're thinking about the industry down there? Just when you think you catch a break here? We are worried about outbreaks again. We were looking a couple of weeks ago. We were really starting to feel like okay. This is turning the corner. We're GONNA start going. Maybe we can get this thing you know. Heading can push off the festival to August or something, and then you know all the tests are coming back. Higher test results are coming back worse. Hospitalizations are slightly up and down. things definitely took a different turn so on the. The restaurant scene for the restaurants themselves and now the governor to shut down all of the bars themselves, so we can't do any bars the restaurants. They're really scared because there's still a fifty percent, people aren't really going out to eat, and then as far as for restaurant week itself. It's practically dead in the water right now. There probably won't be a restaurant for a while now. We wish you and everybody well. Thank you reaching out to us. I'm glad we had this conversation. That you very much for having all right. Yeah we'RE GONNA get made Christmas gift from Greg Oden Cameo US Cameo Book. Greg Ode for Thirty Dollars Thirty Dollars folks. This is a one time fee. That's always the same Gregor's on the podcast a couple of weeks ago when we were in North Carolina Ohio State beat North Carolina by twenty five down and and He was pitching his came. We were we were. We were laughing about. How much how into his cameo he was? We thought it was funny. Like you know maybe he does one or two cameos. Does your there This man I was I was by Greg side for most of that trip. You did everything we at every meal together we. We did everything together because whatever ever you know this man would pull out his phone into cameos. Yes anywhere in the world you'd be taking a piss and he'd someone you get greg. We go live in his life. Yeah so that's like running. I gotta we gotTa Have Greg back on like in a few months and ask you like what the most outrageous paces it we'll be doing live does during our podcast. You would do that. Yeah he would be in the middle of a podcast and just hold on. Hey how's it going sharing. It's me today I used to play for the blazers. You might remember me from Ohio. State the Greg's bought ad time for our podcast. And what is he doing this weekend. We're going to Vegas we're going to vegas the CBS sports classic which features the. I didn't know that Oh house. They tried to trademark which is almost more egregious than Taco Tuesday. Ohio thing you guys trademark anything but what is it called the birthplace of aviation. That's a good sign. That was like a good like skirts. All Right Anyways University Kentucky with coach Cow North Carolina Carolina. No one just Roy Williams and nothing And then of course I didn't even want to say their name. Yeah Mick Mick. Cronin is the head coach. Yes he's still their head coach and he has the chance Martinez at noon noon. Game we're North Carolina's always struggled in the history of time to to get a signature win Cronin against K. J. Smith and the bullies the freshman team of North Carolina. Yeah we're going to. We're going to vegas this weekend. We're going to try to be fun stuff breath for the podcast top golf's if Christner here. Um He's now we We were excited about this much more excited about this trip. A few months ago but That's a canvas to anytime so Yeah check out. You seem very resigned to not proclaiming that Ohio state still top five team in the country. You seem like you're back to being being like they're UCLA. North Carolina or zero say Kentucky. Here's what we're GonNa talk about on the show and we're GONNA talk about. How Ohio State is the number one team in the net rankings yet again? Yes to start the season. We're GONNA talk about Ohio. State is number one in Ken palm yet again And all we need to look out the media he said. Stop saying you're surprised that we have fifteen fifteen is number one there. You're ranking. Their fault is wrong. Yeah right right so it's like I've never been wrong. Look at Virginia. We're going to talk about a fun a fun weekend in College Basketball Game we have beacons Aga- Arizona have a full pack twelve update for the people the PAC twelve a lotta people that were upset and they were like. Oh you really going to have this. Carolina by twenty five points in the answer was yes and now the answers. No at least for this show tae is having fielded the fire. He's going to give us the full extent to tackle. They want to do a little player of the year. Talk to so We'll we'll try to take that on at the end here so we have a full show. We have a ton of stuff to get to but I I would. He do technical foul all right. It's Tuesday at about noon here and Los Angeles take in I just want to start the show by acknowledging Who have we been doing this podcast? What about a month now? Yes roughly almost the new iteration horatio. Titus eight has been about twenty days. The feedback has been coming in a lot of five star reviews. We're very thankful for those We we we love our listeners But I read them. I read. I read the reviews. I read what people have to say. I think that's one thing that I strive to have with this. PODCAST is like a a relationship Asian ship with the fans. It's not just US talking and it's not a one way street we don't put stuff out and not have here what they say back. That's why we did fan service Friday a disaster which was an absolutely. He's astor. We'll probably the jury trusted YouTube And with that I want to say like we. We get a lot of feedback. Defense seemed to really like what we do here but the one complaint they always have is that we talk about our Alma maters. There's too much We talked about how North Carolina way too much Get to some other teams. There's other stuff going on in the country and I think I was thinking about it. Sunday night It just kind of popped in my head as planning for the show today and I was like I think we should give the fans what they want and not talk about Ohio State or North Carolina. Let's do it. I think I think that's right. They want yeah time we pass and I think This just it all makes sense. It's all kinda coming together that this would be a great week to not talk about them at all. I don't I don't know why the timing just seems so fitting does it didn't rolls off the tongue when you say we shouldn't talk about those guys because why they're not drumming up headlines sound like one of those teams teams lost their best player of the year. Yeah exactly dwayne Washington. Junior was out people wanted to you know get on me like what the hell happened to Ohio state. It's like we didn't have our best guard. What did you expect guy to say okay? We're going to talk about it. Do you WANNA go. I know you go first. Okay what the fuck is with guys named car with guys. NAME NAME CER car up thirty five on Ohio state the last guy who scored thirty points on Ohio State Attorney. Tony Karp Penn State. I'm out on cars state. I'm so ellen cars. I walked here. I walked to the studio. I'm like I'm never getting back and getting in a car. Yes I'm I'm I'm absolutely done with Cars Ohio. I called on on this podcast. I said it was a trap game against Minnesota. 'cause they were looking they have southeast Missouri Tonight And they were looking ahead to that game against Southeast Missouri and Minnesota Trap Game and it proved to be true it it was truly a trap. Yeah I think they did look at the roster and realize that a guy was named Marcus car on their team and then I realized so when I saw Marcus Card said myself Oh man and that must be Tony cars right right. He loves Ohio State. The car families accelerate. There's GonNa be a big night for Ohio states coming into cars like yeah. Yeah yeah it was going crazy and then I looked it up and I'm like no wait a second. His blows dewayne notice. And if you remember delay notice he is of course a part of the South Carolina final four eighteen with soil. Pj Does your all those guys. Did he play because her house they haven't he's like so. There is no redemption here but I will say is like the way notice. I love that twenty seventeen South Carolina. Fourteen don't feel like they get enough credit for what they did also. PJ Dosier was the first guy to wear thirty five after durant Leff o'casey but nobody seems to give me credit for that serious thornwell. He played on the clippers before they became really good. They really let him work thirty five when they're slight to him that was like that's and all the pictures it was like. But I just WanNa wear did what I did I when I would tell state Our thirty four year after tearing styles was big ten player of the year and the more thirty four. There's a lot of thirty four dollars in the crowd. Came into the freshman boom. Look at all the people where my Damn People Love My Jersey Oklahoma thirty thirty five. How about that? Yeah I you know I'm not I'm not worried about this. I'm not worried we're worried we're degree it's it's not not a big deal. It's college basketball. Was the last time we spoke on the air. You were saying Ohio State was going into the trap game but you still feel like they would be the number one team or walking talking to the best of the weekend when we both know that they are by far team in the CBS sports. Okay so I'll say this dwayne Washington Junior. I'm not. I'm not trying to take away from Minnesota's win but Dwayne washing junior play. He's our best guard. He's our best score on the perimeter. The Guy that killed if you've listened to any commentary. I've had on college basketball the entire time. I've been doing this professionally. You know how much guards who can create their own offense matter to me. I'm not alone in this. This is a you know anybody who watches college. Basketball's like that's how you win games guard you can grade their own offense So yeah it would ask ball fans we call that Kimball Walker exactly it would have been helpful to have a guy who can create his own offense out there for state. I'm that's all I'm saying. The Guy who torched North Carolina that would have been helpful to have him. We didn't have him. Kayla Western was in foul trouble. All game okay. Because I have no idea how to officiate him The rest were bad. Both ways if you say both ways that doesn't sound like you're complaining fat. You sound like better better but yeah fit like Caleb is now. It's not absorbing as much as getting the 'cause they were bad both ways and I say that solely so no one accusing me of being a homer but No that I really. This has become a problem with Kale. They have no idea how to officiate him. He fouls a lot and they don't call it and then like he gets called for ticky tack stuff because he just kind of like big lean certain in ways on guys and I have no idea what to do and they're like three of his fouls I think we're offensive fouls and all bad calls but then you also I will concede that he's also so hacking the shit out of guys on the defensive end so I don't know it's just it's just a bizarre thing and then he's out for the most of the game. It's all right we're fine we're fine we got Kentucky refine the interesting thing about the big ten. Is that the only eighteen. That's WANNA know in. The whole conference is Michigan State Everyone else wanted one everyone else's five hundred and then the only team that has only got a record of own one is northwestern Western and guess college played each other. The chance of Chris Collins ago so deep in the hole is open to everyone else above him as one and one that more than Michigan against sits atop so let's get from Michigan State argument with him being still the class of the big ten. Maybe that's why you're worried. This'll be big Chris Collins to pull this off though he may be done coming offer the NCAA tournament appearance last year. It was last year. I know he feels like it was last three years three years later. Chris you you may be. Oh and Tom. Congratulations Minnesota on winning the National Championship By beating how stay pretty good won the netball. We're still number one in the net. That's all that matters Can we talk about about your team and get that out of the way so that we can move onto. The game actually met her I it's over right It's over North Carolina Lost Wofford and Carmichael arena. I what is the first regular season as a home game since nineteen sixty eight and nineteen eighty-six. Same Dan the last time selects if there was a man by the name Kitty Smith who was the starting point guard in that game and he went on to become a two time. NBA Winning Point Guard with the Houston Rockets. However many years later K J Smith transferred from Pacific? Great Kid love him. He was the starting point guard in this game. Everyone seemed to be very excited about that. My first thought was way what it and Wofford has Carolina's number. I don't know what kind of curse Jerry Richardson pulled. When he left the panthers with Wofford north? I don't know what happened but all I know Wofford has it Fletcher Electra. Magoo was there last year. Remember him now they got this new guy storm like who the hell is store Murphy. Storms coming in. He's just hitting shots all over the place. They're chatting nate. The Great in Carmichael terrarium. Embarrassing Wofford is now two and one in the racist sixty nine one sixty two sixty four as Carolina can't even score sixty nine points. That's embarrassing there. I just wanted to bring up Carolina not relevant. I think we're going to cross Carolina. Fried like there were done with Carolina for the season but but but but I wanNA talk about the Carolina. I'm not done until mid Kronen says. This is a signature win for this program when he beads K.. J. Smith in north with Carolina on Saturday. We'll stop talking about him. We got away from it. Kuneva's signature win the last time. North Carolina lost four games in a row. They've lost three in a row right now unless four or five canal tomorrow beat Oregon. How the hell do they order the best team in the PAC twelve but again we're going to get to the twelve update later? I'll save that for How well how? The hell debuted Orient but They have zag tomorrow. Paul resume builder. It's Atkins Diet tomorrow. Yes of course. So they lose that four zero the first the last time we lost four rows February of two thousand ten sounds about right yeah This is when when's the last time. They scored like eight points points. Even seventy five points got into work. Is this the worst. It is this the worst Carolina team ever seen. No this is twenty ten no worse than the this is not whereas in two thousand two at all. This is not even close but not yet that was like looking like how did we take Adam. Boone Jason Williams Bill gutters chopping ice. And he's like I don't know I like the kid but that was a tough time but I would say in this iteration Roy Williams. He said that he doesn't know what to do. He's like at the end of the road. I'm tired I'm more worried that this year is going to kill Roy. Williams not like literally killing made. Kim WanNa Stop Coaching. Because Dean Smith always said Roy Gregoire instead of this at the live show like he thought he left too soon. We probably should have safer ninety seven ninety eight so roy. Roy doesn't WANNA leave too soon. But this team may make him in the area to Roy's credit. He has not had the vertigo yet. He's not he's not a Roy goes down. I won't say a word Coach Williams. You're doing your best. I mean he should've called a time out when storm and the boys are making a run. I understand that but like in his money's like we got the under twelve off timeout coming up. That would be crazy to call time out. We're going to need some of these time outs later in the game so we saves it they still go on this run and the game. We still have no time. Nobody has any idea. You're talking about because no one. Actually Gotcha okay. Well I think America's to Murphy's Parents Watch that game. I wonder if they're listening right now. Like you had talked about that sixteen hour. I WANNA speak for America. I'd say that we are at the point with Carolina where we don't actually watch the Games we just we see that you're playing we don't watch a second of it. We check back in two hours later and cross our fingers that you lost then we can all laugh as having the champs. Anthony is out WHA- four to six weeks or six weeks with with an injured draft stock is surgery. GotTa get knee surgery. A lot of people are saying why would he agree to get surgery. You know at this point when that just mean he'd be out for two weeks by coney any dislike weight into those people I say we just lost a waffle. Okay Co Anthony every right to get a knee surgery. Whatever he needs to get healthy six weeks is not that bad? If you look at the time line though I have a feeling they beat. Ucla has a signature win. Gets things back going. They own the PAC twelve. I have a feeling in four to six weeks. We're going to hear about coal Anthony's Rehab. It's taken a little longer than we thought. He's had a few complications Here's the here's the things that mattered in North Carolina Season Clemson in Chapel Hill Guy and that's during the coaling. Oh you worried about this at all very where they've never ever one right. Yes it's never never in the history. So they will probably win this year. If you had to guess but Cohen Navy came out for that game that degrade he got at Pittsburgh at cables you know little plays with you. Got Jason Cable Morales Secrets on the bench. Tell them everything about Carolina blown out in that game but other than that they can win some Georgia detective. Have you moved on to just hating duquette. When is that is like honestly? They're not to hate like I mean to be honest. There's no good team in ACC. I said that last week there's no top five. ACC team. I guess what America the net yet like. My question is like Wendy. Wendy transition from stop hoping anything good habit with Carolina the team. You never had hoped that was the season's over analysis do hope is a dangerous thing and we never had it the You know who do does have hope after you're pulling off of a massive win Ann Arbor Oregon the dog ducks a team that North Carolina. Be A yes. Yeah this this was the game of the day in college basketball and Saturday. This is the game him the weekend. I know you wanted to save up. But I don't want to let you off that easy because I won't your pact will update to like actually. I'M GONNA run to every team in the pack twelve. You want to do the update now. Now let's do a little run. Let's talk about the Oregon Michigan. Okay Organ Win. Seventy one seventy in overtime anthony. Matheson's a jump jump shot at the end of regulation Hits the deep three. It's a half second too late So Not Peyton Pritchard missed the free throw you know everyone's freaking out about this paid yet. You missed the free throw. Everyone's like he's still you know. Can you trust them in March. That's what I've seen. I don't understand this. Yeah I I also don't he Paid pritzker thirteen points in a row. I think it was a twenty three for the game very Jordan. Number Yeah I think this is officially usually the death of Xavier Simpson Defensive Stopper. I think this has to be right. I think we have to. We have officially laid to bed. The Xavier Simpson reputation. As like he he. He's a defensive stopper who plays the game. The this is a very very bad xavier. Simpson game I don't want to pile on the guy because I do like Iverson so we were like making fun of his Hook shots and all all this stuff on my show He's a good player. He's he's a very good college player. He's a guy that like. If I was in Michigan Fan I would absolutely love him. I think I tweeted after the game. I was like he should play every minute of every game because I wouldn't trust anyone else to run the point for them and like in a big game he should be playing the whole time But it is very very strange range how we got to a point where like Xavier Simpson is regarded as one of the best point guards in college basketball and we go into the match last year. Every time they played Michigan State owes like cash vs Xavier Xavier and then caches just owned him owned him and they beat them three times. And and then you know you you figure that would be the end of this year coming into this match up. It's like Zebra Simpson for his peyton. Pritchard Richard to to tighten point guards. It's like no legs. That is very very good but like why why do we have to put him on a pedestal. As though he's better than what he is because he's known yes. Oh College basketball works. If you're a known entity people know London Renta's than even of London apprentices and having a great year. They're gonNA talk about London. Doesn't they talk about Virginia and same with Joel Berry. And after they won the title North Carolina didn't have a great year but every time they say trae Jones coming into the season. He's not having a horrible year but he's like yeah. We kind of talked about that or trade Joneses. Yeah you're the guy that people know supposed to be the best player and everyone's kind of like okay. I guess it's kind of like Prince Ali with UCLA. You know what I mean. It's like there's no way. He's the best parliament team but he's as the most well known entity. So He's the guy. Can I just say to about Oregon. I A anthony. Mattis's jump. Shot is beautiful. This this is a I. I don't know if he's if he I don't have to think through this. He might be my favorite shooter in the country. But who cares. That's not what I'm talking about. I could watch this guy shoot. I don't need to see if it goes in. I just could I just WanNa see like an ice ocampo him to shooting. He's got like perfect forum Every time he shoots. I think it's going in He reminds me in that regard. WHO's the guy was Lamar Patterson on pit you love the Mark Patterson Eunice Great? ACC Best Player. That was the guy I was. I knew as a pig I it was Lamar Patterson now I remember who was the same way? Like I remember when the more pattern what what year is on twenty ninety four hundred fourteen. Yeah they were really good. Yeah there every time he shouted I was like my God. I mean you're the Camp Johnson was like I'm going to translate in this team and then go to North Carolina because he played lights a well known Dina I would rather watch anthony. Mathis miss jump. Shots did watch Xavier. Simpson make jump shots. I think that's where I've arrived with. Anthony Mathis jump shot. He's shooting fifty two. But here's my I promise them. He shooting fifty two point six percent from three this year. Anthony Mathis You know how I feel about this. You gotta you gotTA shoot more not fifty three percent. Yeah he had six threes. It's Michigan again. Xavier Simpson's Hook shot percentage on the season. Sixteen percent. You did me. He made me one. He made one guy he's called. I forget who was calling the game. raftery raftery. I don't think so I don't think They went nuts. They make remakes. One Hook shot they go nuts there it is. There's the hook shot. He did it guys and you ignore that he was like three for eleven and the entire game yes. I'm like that but I also did on Michigan if the season instant you know like if this is there's no much hope they they finish fifth or sixth and the big ten they. You know barely make the tournament. They're nine seats still a success. Right if you're doin' yeah that's what I think. Well that's what happened when when they came back from Hamas Amazon's got I think all Michigan financial like wait. What I don't really want this? This is way too high but okay but they're not I. I mean we talked about it on the last show like they. I don't think they have the only guy that can like really consistently get in. The paint and create shit is Zebra Simpson. Listen and he can't finish so like that's th. They're always going to be a need more. Franz they're always going to be kind of stagnant. Yeah twenty two game isn't but shoot. Well he's had the reputation Asian. He's had the Jack White situation going on where it's like. He's a great great. To hear about is not actually making anything good. He finally finally hitting against Oregon good to see that I always enjoyed those. Those guys come into school. That are like this guy is a shooter and then they put him on like the three you know like I'm Anthony Davis a little bit too. They're like remake. Play small forward as well. You're Kinda like I mean maybe Abo but like I guess zoo Carl Townsley I also I want to acknowledge. That Oregon is undefeated in the United States. As Well Carolina Carolina beat the Losses Carolina which gets more confusing by the day But that happened in Bahamas so organised technically defeated the United States. If Oreo wins the national championship and this North North Carolina team has the Clintons organ. The national champions. I'll be okay with that. especially if Cohen Almost Winter Oregon's it would all work out. Yeah that's my hope. That's all I got right now. You asked what I have left. That's what I have left. I'm still lost in that Man Yeah Michigan's really struggling. I don't know if I really trust it's Oregon team either but I think they're the best team in the pack twelve. WHO GETS YOU BET? Yeah even music for this. I really want to wag a fully go. I was scared I was scared. Your PAC twelve update. It was just going to be level warrior team. And we're going to. We're going to run through the last all right good. Let's do it we. We can't we can't resist. You can't resist anymore your your update. I wish I do know the lady that her husband is using her instagram to threaten me and also threatened you to talk about the PAC twelve of legitimate. Wait what Yeah No. Yes and. They said that they've reached out to you as well. But they're like if you don't talk about the peg I was like what are you need. Never ever forget the West Coast in the PAC twelve. Or that's the only specific that's the only conference or the only region of the country that we did a specific podcast for us. Remember when we did that. Yeah we did a full west coast episode needed a full West Coast Extravaganza. We'd never have done in east coast extravagant mid West or South. That's every other show and we're like yeah we're now. The voting pact will update. We've never done a big ten update. I don't remember I don't recall. Now we're doing a pack twelve update on every fucking show. It's still not enough for the people I don't know it's once a we. We're not doing it on Friday but you know what we're talking about all right. Let's get to go. There are two different Phases to where we're going to discuss here we're talking about the PAC twelve. There's one conversation which is the legitimate PAC twelve and there's another conversation which is my twelve are PAC twelve okay like everyone west of the Mississippi pretty much yes yes XS in the PAC twelve as far as smart as concerned there in Kansas. Just going to win the PAC twelve. You know. I don't see what happens. Let's see what happens this. Your Kansas owns the PAC twelve All right I talked about the worst team in the pack. Twelve Washington state okay. They're they're kyle. Smith is their coach. Easy I thought Kim Boneless still coach I guess not. They're struggling for all right. Now we're getting to the Nitty Gritty California. All right. We got Mark Fox. California California is not good at all this year. No why King Jones is not the coach anymore. Jason Kid is not the coach. Jason Kidd is also refreshed. My memory was he liked the reason. He's not the coach is because he hadn't doesn't have a degree. Yes you you had to graduate. would be him if he would have actually had his degree but he doesn't. I'm Jason Kidd. Can you just like making a pass like. Isn't that the whole point of this and everyone's like yes. Isn't that what the hell was. California started the year four. No they lost five of their last seven and pretty much every team that they play in California despite being California they lose to so California. You're in California and you play California. You'RE GONNA win that game that's tough. That's the PAC twelve update. They beat everyone outside of California. There'd be everyone everyone outside. That's not a good team. But they're listening to cal state northridge. Yes yes exactly. Yeah number. Ten analysts might be shocker. People were shocked by this. Ucla Make Oh you're going through the top twelve top give you one note on all these teams. I learned one. No idea who zero clue do actually like what I saw from Washington state kind of believe in you know but but aside from that. Ucla no belief no believe in this team May Cronin has broken these men down and they will not come back. Yep You know what I mean a lot of times you break people down. You think that's like a a rise you know. Maybe a dark knight rises situation. It's not these guys aren't coming back. May Cronin Kronen. They're dead to him and at the end of the day when you look at this team. That's my new thing. I love pickles. That's not people were saying this because we've been since for a long time at the end of the day macron will be fired tired you will be fired at the end of the at the end of the end of this day. No I'm kidding. Everybody of a vital. I was watching the Memphis Tennessee. Gave it at a vital says. I'll tell you one thing. He says that at least forty times a game. I'll tell you one thing James Wiseman comes back. This is going to be completely different team. And I tell you one thing and just goes on. And on my dicky view that's more than one those are ladder thing thing sir. Those are things multiple thinks there may cronin is seven and four. A lot of people are are saying that this team is just not his guys. Yep My PAC twelve update is. Are we sure that any of these guys that make Cronin ones will go to UCLA. You'd have to give him four full years to get his guys to get the guys out. Yes you have to four. Four years is a full cycle. Get the old guys out. Get his new guys in establish a culture tate. Give him four years. That's what I say. Let me just tell you. And he's got forty. He's got four years to do it. I think that's the contract right. So he's going to get fired at the end of that counter not resigned or whatever you're going to say but at the end of the day May Cronin is not gonNa make it Ucla. That's what I was saying. That's I don't think he I don't think he wants to me. I think you silly they thing was just to get him out here I think the UCLA thing was he wanted to get the hell out of Cincinnati. I think he I think he lived his entire life in Cincinnati. He He. If you're godfried you just waiting Ayton. Yeah just waiting. I think it was a lifestyle thing like Cronin. Just wanted to get out of the Mid West. Ucla is something that makes a ton of sense. Because you can like sell it to people in Cincinnati. You don't look like ah you. Don't you betrayed. Cincinnati it's like I had to it was Ucla Blueblood like you can't leave UCLA UC Irvine which is where he's going to end up. I was GonNa ever done the area. Romar Shaka's boots. Yeah you can't leave Cincinnati and go to pepperdine if you're cronin but if you'd stop at Ucla along the way yes then. It's more palatable for the people people of of Cincinnati so I think that's what he was doing seven and four if they beat North Carolina on Saturday like we said does he get a contract extension. Because that's what I I think. I think that's my biggest. That's my news where we watch out for. That's what I'm worried about. All right number nine Arizona State The sun devils. I know a lot of people. Think baby. Yeah they they think Arizona State might be ranked if they beat Saint. Mary's I'm saying all this in quotations because I'm not sure these Games are happening but anyways Mary's this Wednesday. Oh they're going to win. It's Mr December bobby. beggs bobby bags is ready. Mr December guys Georgia by twenty which is like their claim to fame right now. Everyone's saying Arizona State Blew Out Georgia. You and I both watch Georgia in person. Is that impressive impressive. No not at all Shaman. And unless they can show they tried to act like they didn't just beat them a last second shot like in the same way that Kevin Keegan's the way I'm an active Stankiewicz not hitting a half court shot you to win. That's how they're accurate Shabina really. Yeah we just one that go. Don't tell the resume people we were in total control the entire every time we knew we were GonNa hit the last second shot the whole time. We were scared. Romy Martyn somehow good really good okay. I'm listening saying like right now. I don't know I talked about it. I know who really Martin. What do you mean like somehow get like? He's he's much better. He according to the PAC twelve offs is is a contender for popular player of the year. Now I don't know how distinguish that award is but it is an award. I gotTa talk to our guys actual words who I used to work with us at the rear he's an Arizona State. I go golfing with him all the time he he. He's he's feed me. There's a state propaganda at all times. So get to see what he has to say about it. So I'M GONNA segue into phase two out of Verizon States segue to a guy that he worked for Herbs Index. Santa Clara moving up the ranks like if Santa Clara California tonight Santa Claus Win that game probably by twenty points. Santa Clara is number nine on your PAC. Twelve rank is Everson Santa Clara in my PAC twelve. which is what will be the second phase of this? Because I'm going to ask you just I wanna Rinku who the best team in the pack. Twelve which I think is a lot larger than we're talking about but I'm giving them what they want Utah Next Utah beat. Byu which. I don't understand or stand at what is happening is be the best team that doesn't win and Byu and pope and like these guys that we really. I believe in the Jack White of teams. I wonder if they don't make shots but they don't win games but I swear they're a good team. I swear I saw this team in Maui. They they are very good team team but they don't win so I'm kind of running out of excuses I dunno here. Is there Hot that's all. I don't let them get hot. Here's their chance for redemption with Utah themselves not Byu Byu has no chance for redemption. Right now maybe once again play Utah. Plays one of the teams that I'M GONNA ask. You is the best team. In the pack. Twelve slash the west coast which ages San Diego State huge schilling in the net rankings. They were the highest ring team. In era he's number three number three. Yes undefeated waiting for the crickets. The number three the aspects they play Utah in Los Angeles. And we're going to go to that game we don't do you know probably but what is it. It's coming up. I think it's coming up enough. I just wrote down. They plan so you're doing a great job you update than I. Oh I'm ready to go next up. We get Oregon state the beavers okay so a guy that you hung out nickel in Chapel Hill. Chat flack man lost to the beavers twice the National Championship in baseball. So me personally. I don't like Oregon State never have like Oregon State. Don't like beavers either that tight. It seems pretty self explanatory but back to the beavers this team eight in one maybe better than Oregon. Okay that's the talking people in Oregon saying maybe Oregon State maybe people are saying. It's the most trump thing I've ever seen in my life. This update is it's called BS and that's that man. Does I mean does that. A lot of a lot of chatter out of this on the Internet. They have a week non conference slate so everything. I've said throw it away. Yeah throw it away. That's organized it's the best team I actually care about. Jared Hassin Stanford Cardinal Okay. I still don't like is the cardinal. Yeah I think it should be an S. or just I don't like it. anyways Stanford Cardinal Casey left Kislyak. Paula went to the NBA. There's supposed to be really bad care. Nine in one jared has would. They're saying the people in the PAC twelve circles coach of the year PAC twelve coach to the year early season. You're ready you're already. They're already said already. Having been played in the PAC twelve. Yeh already top of the top of the shit. Jared has all these message boards. You're on take twelve circles. rerunning it basically just taking what I see and then I'm just turning into it. Maybe I should work for the network. I'll stir up some drama buffalo's Volos next step we we we get the. That's how we we drive up ratings packed with you and I are are skipping Shannon of the pact just get on there and dislike argue about packed with basketball are are you kidding me that it was the best show thank you. That's what I'm saying. Watch it let's go do it. Yeah Colorado number. Five on the list they played Dayton in Chicago on Saturday. The game yes they are eaten too. Okay that's good. That's that's good. That's a good nugget nugget NATO get the Trojans they are on probation so my question to you is can't talk about batum Harvard. which is the ultimate of cheating and sports play Harvard and beat the shit out of them we are USC? I like that. I like fight on fight on mentality. Notice allegations drop. Was it Friday night. Yeah it like Fridays. Just please put it out. I got you Andy Andy. Yeah no doubt. We'll get into football coach and here urban coming soon TCU They beat Tcu Again on probation note. Don't know how much we can talk about them next up Arizona number three on the list of people would say number two. Listen live you'll be wrong. Arizona lost to Gonzaga Gonzaga's officially the PAC twelve champion base is on the analytics. We have here At Titus Tait and so they won the PAC twelve. Congratulations ZAGS GONNA be. What are the what are they one? Eight zero against the PAC twelve. Now do you know the last years of nugget for. Here's a pack twelve for the Laszlo. Celtics team to beat Dare Williams Arizona. Was it out of knowing you know. I know it was Ucla Twenty fifteen. In Spokane Isaac Hamilton at twenty three. Ucla Wow Isaac Hamilton. You told me that name out and said he played in two thousand twelve. Yeah he probably did twenty twenty seven. Maybe it'd be there for yeah. It was the you've got the most minutes in that game for UCLA. bryce Alford I was GonNa say I was GONNA say Jordan Far Mark but then I'm like really often my years Yeah Twenty fifteen last time. Gonzaga lost packed. Wilton Twenty fifteen was the same year that Bryce Alford shot at the Rim tournament. And then they called Golden Shore. Yeah get says if you got a rebound and they're like golden it'd be like if they called goaltending like Lorenzo Charles. When he caught the air doctor they by the play? Yeah can you imagine by the way you don't have much. That happened. Probably like back in the day like I don't know I'm I'm going to go off on a tangent here but I swear that lake before. TV just imagine how much cheating went on. And and with refs an you know like Adolph rupp in Kentucky. Oh my God I can only imagine and how much the same Carolina to see the same with all these places with Ucla back to Kentucky like you know how easy would be to cheat to not like. I don't know to just have the ref just make blatantly horrible calls and the Games aren't on TV and then you team gets screwed like you're you're visiting team playing Kentucky in like the sixties and you just get completely host and you're just like whoa what just happened and no one no one gives a damn. There's no video of it. There's snow there like get the hell out of here. Yeah we want we want my twenty points like Nassau with the scoreboard. The more I think about all that the more I think like no. NCAA titles title should count before like two thousand two or something. Let's say ninety five here here. We gotta get Gottfried Freedom Romar of won two titles so silly to have one before that like. Oh my God. The cheated went on like the. The college started in Nineteen ninety-five with Jim Harrick cheating so much they won the title. And then that's like the foundation of like this is what new team looks like cars and houses. Yeah if you WANNA be sick if you WANNA be a cynic and I don't. I'm just saying if someone else does these. People run in circles might. Oh Yeah you could say. The Lake John Wooden is in is dropping back to the same Gilbert to get all these companies to UCLA. The love of the game they came and then they play all their games at home no the entire. Ncaa Tournament played within a twenty mile radius of UCLA campus. Until the time you ever heard of the Pyramid of success that's what they would say about this. All right we give it is. We didn't talk anything about Arizona by the way we didn't talk about Shawn Miller alerts still sweating Shawn Miller Yeah his cough. Is We gotta get this cough figured out. I figured the cough is always a nice. I've learned learned in speech. People like to have little takes to break up the conversation especially when they say so a cough sometimes as cover what you say. He's not created the because as a way to Sean. Did you pay these kid He these kids last night. He I understand that Arizona has a good offense year. That's what I've been told I've been told I would say James. I've watched this I. I've had enough of I've had enough Shawn Miller basketball to last a lifetime of watching robotic big men and I like nausea. They're freshmen they have. He plays really hard and every time he dunks it. He he celebrates liberates like He. I don't know what's up is not the first time you've ever done. I love enthusiasm. It's great but Arizona's big is once again kind of robotic once again they can't shoot threes. At least they couldn't against Gonzaga. They were horrible from the three point. Line what's going on here you go. He's not even the best restaurants he was. He was three for twenty though. Oh and and I know that sounds bad. Two three four twenty. Here's here's the silver lining three for twenty. This man was three for nineteen at one point and thought to himself. This next shot gone and Dan any shot and I love that confidence out of my freshman point four for twenty. Just mathematically better like even you know you just think about like quiz status eh quiz bag. You just do the math down just like four twenties. Isn't that terrible. You know three foof you gotta get lock it up man Let's let's talk about number two teams in whatever we already talked about them. They're number two and then the number one team the team that we really care about and the team that is number two in all of the West Coast The Washington. HUSKIES Your boys the starbucks Magoo's okay as the dish out starbucks the media to get their favor. They've won he's one Washington number one in the PAC twelve. He's never once the Oregon coast lost to North Carolina. It is bad they are for that doctor. Doc for that and I still don't think an overtime win is like the most impressive thing in the world and I don't think Michigan's that good so I think Washington to me is the best team in the pack twelve despite right now right now yeah we get more updates to come but a lot of basketball at Washington number one overall the West Coast Gonzaga number one so as one a one. B One c San Sandiego state. I think I'M GONNA make this catchphrase mine too is. There's a lot of basketball if it'd be played there's a lot I want to say that after everything. Yeah I like that. I like that phrase you say sounders. Basketball Kabbadi played jared houses the coach of the year in the PAC twelve. But there's a lot of basketball and remi. Martin is the PAC twelve player of the year but January is That's great that's that's a great update. I feel like that anything else. We gotta everyone will be very happy about that Bill Walton gave John Number on. That was awesome. You we overlook that that's that actually if if I could give a real pack of update that would have been the PAC twelve update are you. Are you believing dagga. 'cause I what do you mean. Do they exist yes. I don't think spokane exists but I do think that Gonzaga team exists Petra. Chev till the in kiss. Bert are really good. But like I look at those three guys and I think to myself those are your three headed monster. That's not enough for me still. I don't know when I mention either. Killing Taylor could be considered their best player. You were like Scotland because you're so resigned to thinking that he has to be their eighth guy which I agree with. That's the problem but I I. Yeah I I don't I don't feel like Zag is as good as don't take this wrong. The very I don't basically it's like the landscape of college basketball is such that Zag. It probably is the second best team in the country right now but I don't look at that like last year's team was so much better. It's better than this year's could ever ever what happened last year. They went to North Carolina and Seventh Woods at sixteen points on them. Abbott Hereford's yeah. It was great man to repeat of that okay art good Zag Gonzaga's one of the best teams in the country. But like I think it just speaks to the the landscape as a whole I don't know because I because I look at them even like yeah. Last year's team would beat the St by twenty five. At least I wanNA point out that same person that I called Africa telling me that Florida was going to make the final four based on their pre scout announces. They texted me and said that. All College Basketball's dog should this year after being bill as it was built that we were saying. Apparently that's what scouts are saying to people in Nashville or people in Gainesville or people all over the place that are driving around Florida and South Carolina and Texas and all of these places They're all saying wow these. These guys are really bad at basketball. And I say to this blame the coaches. We blame the millionaires of tacos. They seem a little too fat happy. I say this if you're watching college basketball the ball to see super talented players play basketball. You've already made a massive mistake. No does that is not why we watch yes. This is competition at its. Yes yes why we watch for the love over the game yes we watch for the sheer fact that potentially it could be out there or your kid it should be you. Let's break reader comeback. I want to touch on this Memphis Tennessee game a little bit. I don't watch a ton of and does a very ugly game but I just WanNa talk about the more the stuff surrounding it because has penny hardaway. Rick Barnes rivalry is something And then I want to eat just need more penny. I N give me that and then I wanNA talk about player of the year a little bit. So we're going to do that. Rigoberta Asia Briggs get a word from our sponsor dollar Shave Club. We talked about dollar Shave We can't stress enough. And we got to figure out what the hell the next thing is. They're saying on the record we will not do. Ti T S to getting that. You can't do five hundred. He can only be four. Less rule is this. I don't know this is what is one thousand nine hundred eight like the Internet like no the office space. You gotta add to go in. Yeah given the reports all right. We're back after a very very extensive PAC twelve update I thought you did a great job. That was a great introduction to the I learned a lot. Actually I I feel like there's the the whole reason we're doing. This is because it really does feel like the PAC. Twelve exists in a bubble and as you're ripping off stuff about Stanford and you could have asked me before you said Stanford what nine one you'd have asked me before you said what Stanford's record I would have had no idea us. It'd be honest. The most shocking thing for me was seeing the records of these teams suing the the background check of honestly laid. That could be packed. Update as you just read the PAC twelve standards and I think a lot of people listening to learn a lot. They'll be like. Oh my God really yeah. Oregon State is Washington. State has some upside. I wash cougars pumped. I love it. I love basketball. I I the best case scenario. Is that like Oregon and Washington and Arizona are all real like buy into February. They're all like in the top Ted Eh. They're all just know best case in that wins title love. That is not the best game. That is the false fast baths that is that is not then. We're going to start doing the big ten of date act like they're the PAC twelve because that's those are the rules doc. Whichever whichever power conference team gets the fewest teams into the tournament this year becomes the new PAC twelve and we measure in the ACC update? It's going to be great all right moving on a Memphis Tennessee. I didn't watch a ton of this game. I tried it was very very ugly at one point. The first half Memphis eight minutes without scoring a point a lot of times you get these droughts that are field goal droughts and but they're still free throws me met in Memphis had zero point at a scoring straight up scoring drought of fan this season. I've watched eight-minute drought. So I can tell you it's laborious well would Carolina's eight-minute in a droughts they lose by twenty five. You'll have a state Dean Dome when Memphis has eight minute drought. They still win on the road in Tennessee. That's the game was that they still won despite a an eight-minute scoring offense maybe worse than Memphis offense based on what I saw and based on the fact that everyone I talked to you but I have two friends I would tend. You're doing a lot of talking to people. My God look. I don't like to watch anymore. Tell me what you like. You know. I'll talk about. No I'm kidding but I didn't watch game I just watched the highlights but penny afterwards. That's all all I really care about with Penny I don't the team is ugly basketball. Like they don't know how to do anything on a basketball court. I don't know how much they're learning about basketball. But it doesn't seem like much but I love penny so I'll watch penny rick. Barnes is team same way honestly. He seems like he's a little resigned. This year as opposed like the success of the Jordan bone. You know last year's team Jordan bones to all the guys I of the list Graham Admiral Skies Jordan would on was severely underrated team the same with that Taurean Green backing down the Florida teams were severely under. So it's putting that out there okay. But anyways Tennessee they keep saying. They're a strong defensive team and sure. I think there are a good defense team. But they're so bad offensively they have to be just good on defense so I think that's a so that defines there so Just thrown as his out. James Wiseman is In an NCAA jail until still just just so with you. They have their best garching. Yona or the best scoring guard can Unisys out their best bigeye their best player Weisman's out and they they snap snapped Tennessee's thirty one game home winning streak. Does that do anything for you. Does that does that. Move the needle phobia. It moves the needle in the sense that pins back and beyond sentece. Yeah and I think rag. Barnes made a mistake by going back Tennessee. Because he doesn't want the smoke from Jerry Stackhouse got the leave. You see what he does. Lay Yeah Zane. He came back and Blue Elliott ultimately. He should've gone. He should have just left but then he used to get more money in Tennessee. Yeah 'cause he was like I'm not scared of Penny Hardaway. But you should be but he he would have got fired at Ucla. Ucla exists just an everyone's going to ucla to get and every higher will watch. I think everybody's just going to be fired or Watson. When he gets there is probably GonNa Change the whole program run run over by me? And why don't we hire a Watson earlier and he's like yeah. That's what I was yelling. Watson turns around they have like four good years and then Joey this reliefs they've Watson is the coach and Baron. Davis is his top assistant. You wouldn't want to go play for those two guys I would maybe over Penny Hardaway at this point You could be in L. A.. Did you see that penny. So a penny after the game said he wants to keep this rivalry going. It's important him. Yeah excuse accuse me it's important to him that he his quote was like I know people that went to Tennessee there from Memphis so for that reason I want to keep this thing going Last year you might remember Two two things happened last year. Number one penny hardaway gotTA fight ish for lack of a better term of light. Yeah just certified and he was talking all that shit about Barnes and and It got a little heated at the Fedex Forum last year now that happened also completely unrelated to that but just one reminder a fan ship behind the concession stand totally said you remember that John Penny Hardaway almost fired. Barnsley pressure yourself. Yeah that's what you want to So this was the second time they said on the broadcast is the second time that Memphis Tennessee played each other's ranked teams time was an. Oh eight I believe when it was the one versus two game with cow there yes so the rivalries back or is it because pennies like I want to keep this thing going Barnes I I signed this contract with Tubby Smith because I like toby. Were some good old boys from the south that just you know what yes. Yeah if if you don't think highpoints be a powerhouse in basketball in about five years you're sorely because they got some my so this was Rick Barnes. Point of view is like I signed this deal because I like toby in. I thought it'd been fun to play. W I don't WanNa play against you Benny. You're you're everything wrong with the game of basketball. I'm speaking Rick Barnes. It was believed it. I was like yeah I was like well. So Rick Barnes will not will not agree to. He didn't say no but he's he he he will not commit to keeping this rivalry going. Didn't say no is a great Rick Barnes where to put things and I also will say penny will use that as him being scared to play Memphis and he will actually win in the end of Barnes dozen play him so Rick Barnes a smart he would just play them and beat them they they have to each other. They have to play till you we have to happen. Should we get like in Nashville correspondent to say if they care about Memphis because I think that would be hilarious. Yeah just to hear what the other side of that now. I don't really go down to Memphis. The old man we need a new in Nashville is what I what I'm saying. Yeah Yeah Yeah Lebron Jerry Stackhouse Jerry. Stackhouse is like the arbiter of the whole the the battle for Tennessee late late ends vanderbilt arena and Jerry Stackhouse calls the game and officiates it but he's like the head of the system styling. I don't play the second thing we're just we you I know there are too many rivalries non conference rivalries that are are going extinct. Iu Kentucky is no more Kansas Missouri. NO MORE IT'S A. It's sad we we have to preserve rivalries and I hope they hope they continue a new one. That's about to start this weekend. Ucla Carolina Cronin signature. Victory on the way. I want to have this discussion discussion about a player of the year because I was I was thinking about this. I texted you this morning. About this The the narrative around this college basketball season so far is that all the top teams are losing The chaos we are. We are due for an insane. NCAA tournament there. There's a lot of a lot of commentators. Are Jumping the gun already. Ready that there's more talk of this tournament fuel to that's happening more than it than it has. It's happening an unprecedented. It's all all the conversation is on the teams themselves. The teams are losing two teams. that it hit me. I haven't really heard anyone. Thoughts on the National Player of the year race is is no one knows. No one's talking to players. Yes yeah and I thought we we are pioneers. We we start discussions. That's what we do for a living. Everyone just listen to us. I brought her up The one time about the human centipede and You know you take your opinion your shit in the next guy's mouth and you keep passing along. WHO's at the head of the centipede? Why not US wanting joining us? Why don't we start it and we just shit our opinions down the line and let other people get going so I wanted? I wanted to discuss the national player erased and see how you were. You see it where I see it and Marcus car is the name that comes to mind. That's not enough. I think the the race is a simple reason. No one's talking about the race is because the guy that I think is the national weather year got owned by a guy who was supposed to be a candidate to be national player of the year. And I'll explain devan Dodson ooh l.. The Kansas Jayhawks to me is the best player in the country. Who watched them live in person to Maui? I think he is basically Devante Graham point over on the point for Kansas. I think the team is not near the team. If they don't have him doing everything I think he's a scoring guard. I think he is a facilitator. I think he gets as a bouquet involved. I think he act Baljit's a great guy on the wing next to him to kind of cover him as far as like a defensive guys like Klay Thompson type situation you guard their best guard. I can kinda chill but he also has great help defender abdomen like two point two steals a game but what he lost at Msg to Trade Jones on national TV. Which is why we gotta get Roy Champions Classic? I think if that happens the first game of the year. He's got plenty of time. Zagla Egli plays at. Kansas is like if he played a smaller school when that happens. That's all anyone remember. They beat Duke in overtime. The same way. That worrying is be Michigan. Like Devan doesn't doesn't have a great game. Whatever he's he's probably everyone's like he's definitely the natural of the year but I think we all watch that game or like? Oh He's Kinda struggling almost takes that now it was like they probably should've kept grimes. Just as a backup echoed in Greater Houston and then now we watch me looks completely in control one big role player of the week again. And it's I think he's a national player of the year. Yeah I I liked that. Pick so I I was thinking I I do not disagree that at all I was thinking about the the The way you win national player how how do you. How do you actually win it? It's not enough to be the best player that's because we know college basketball media people have vote on the stuff. They're idiots they don't just vote for the best player. Vote for like a story or or there's got to be something around it right. We call Thomas Robinson Right. Yes So one of the one of the more popular. Things is the best player on the best team. And and I don Dodson certainly checks that box. So He's good in that regard. I think that is a key beyond being one of the best players. He's got that going for him. He's Kansas is the number one team in the country. He's their best player. That's awesome You Look Zag. I don't think any of those guys have a chance. I'm rip through the People here. zagged none of those guys have a chance. A Louisville Jordan Laura does yes he very much doubt I guess what has happened to him on national. TV in Madison Square Garden. You get on very true. That's common theme. I guess that's the thing is like talking about it because everyone's like it's hard to sell that to the masses when they're like well. I watched that one game in doors now. That good Duke is number four. I I don't think carrier Tree Jones can win. That can happen. I don't think that can happen. Quite Ohio state. Caleb lessons not wouldn't it. He's that's not happening and I think Washington could have a better chance to honestly. I think the way Washington actually like a no-one no-one on how states even Sniffen all American honors. I don't think even if Ohio state is number number one of the Co like if if they win the bait. I don't think it's happening. If I could see Caleb Caleb would get if I will stay wins. The big ten gets a one-seat Kayla will be an all American but he's not gonna come close to a national player. I don't think it sucks. Caleb is this like we said. He's like the proxy phase of the Teams Right Kentucky. If it'd be Ash Hagans he's not WANNA know Maryland would be Cowan. He's not winning in Oregon would be paid in. He has a chance he actually does have a gist was looking at paid. Richard Stats today. beyond Oregon Oregon their won loss as we said at Carolina didn't happen in America so it doesn't count the they're undefeated in the United States Pritchard stats are pretty similar to dozens. Pretty much if if you're a stats guy. Pretty much the same thing. I same step class of you average at least twenty points per game and everyone near like nineteen point eight but it's like you know semantics twenty points whatever Pritchard has the moment is the overtime whole thing. We all watched it. That's what really mad. CBS Nobody remembers the Carolina Game. So yeah the one you know blipped is the blitz and not a mom. Yeah no one watched. The Carolina game was in the loser's bracket no wasn't that was well. They lost To was it Michigan. Yeah it wasn't loser. Because they lost Michigan Yeah so they didn't know one watch that yeah. Yeah Yeah they lost team. Yeah the try So to recap those those are your top eight teams and so no on those other than dots Dotson nor and Pritchard. Yeah Yeah so those are the. That's how you went for the best player in the best. Those are three candidates dot Sonora and pitcher right The other way you can win is if like your team's not great but or the trade. You ought to be bad but yeah trae young situation where you have a team and you're so when he Anthony Edwards could possibly of Georgia if he just yet averaging thirty five points but he's not so he's not any loss by twenty point Bobby Hurley. UH-HUH I through through these three names down for for that category. Ob Top who we love. Dade fringe me. Madam saying Dayton Dayton is a great team but I'm saying in as a whole the media obviously they do not respect eight and as much as I should be do Dina's ranked thirteenth which is like the highest. They've they've been like sixty eight. I think sixty seven in some of the year they lost the UCLA in the title game. Yeah this is the highest. They've ever been ranked So but but you know like it's not GonNa be on national TV. They're not the we we. We talked about this. The the one shot was like in Maui where the whole world was watching it now like they're not gonNa have the nations of their last. Big Game is Colorado in Chicago. This Saturday the last eighteen. We're not putting on eighteen. It's just the reality of the situation is like the people that vote on this stuff or not gonna be watching Dayton it all the time but OBI top up and putting up insane numbers in Dayton has like a a a Saint Joe's type season in the word. They don't necessarily have to go undefeated from air but like they're just dominated everybody and OBI toppings average I mean what does he have the right now. Twenty one and eight yes. Any is a digital put up some crab games in the end. He as we as we keep talking about these big moments on these big stages against Kansas he played out of his mind. He has the step back right by the Kansas Bench and he turns them looks at them. he's got a chance I think he does have a chance and The other guy that fits is billing of Lake. NONA necessarily a national title team. But that's just not the best player on the best teams type situations. Marcus Howard The first team all American preseason. He's averaging twenty five point one but my problem with him is he's very likable to the. Yes yeah we can't. We can't give national national player of the year to a guy who made the second third best players on the team transfer because he was coming back. The Hauser said. We're out if this guy's coming back I want no part heartless and I can't I can't give their word to that guy. It's a lot of shots. Yes a lot of show ended. Basically all he does is shoot. He doesn't score. which like if you're going to do one thing on a basketball court scoring a a good thing to do but I don't know it's it's kind of artificial but I think he's been around too? It's not like a new shiny toy top in as a as a as a name that you saw when Mao people are like oh who's ob topping good. Yeah so it could. It could work in his favorite like the the career Achievement Award Lord. You know like everyone. Everyone's Marcus Howard has been scoring twenty five game. It feels like for seven years in a row. Let's say a career achievement give it to pay him Pitcher mm-hmm because he took Oregon to a fine. We take organ no final four but he was a point guard on that team. Yeah so that's how I see it right now. My my five candidates who are are probably my five all Americans right now Dotson Nora. Yup Pain Pritchard OBI top Marcus Howard. That's because the guys what what makes this race interesting too as you have like a guy like cash winston come into the season's preseason player. He's he's obviously got going on with what he has gone on their coal anthony. He's out he's out. He's definitely out James. WISEMAN OUT NICO now. You can't go through. Those are probably the three most hiree blacks year and Kyrie black shoes. It was like the hot transfer. And he's out he's been yep he's terrible. Yeah we're right now is yeah. He's a certainly not gonNa Nash Player. So you have all these guys coming into the year thinking thinking like they have a chance there kind of already out like none of those guys can win it even. Yeah I really feel like they're all you can cross them all off right now and every single one even Cole Anthony came back and ACC play after this four to six week break and dislike dominates and does what is still a national player of the James Wiseman one hundred percent now when no matter James Watson could average fifty and thirty an AH MEMPHIS wins the title. And he's not exactly no one's GonNa vote the media's not gonNa vote for the people are GonNa vote for him for all that data is the one that checks the most boxes I think nationally for people to like him. He's familiar. People have seen him. You don't mean and he is their best player. I really want to win it. I won't top two topics my favorite player country. I I think he's the most likeable player in like. I said he's a new shiny toy Derrick Williams. But we're going to watch more on the problem is keep saying he's not on TV. Though only I went back and looked like in the one and done era. Jimmer the only guy to national player of the year without like a major T- contract. Yes it did not play in a conference where you're on national national. TV All the time. And that was come on Marco. You Know Jim Tolson should be on that list. Man Jake Tilson certainly. Yeah put on the list. That's my like as my dark horse Yeah that'll be interesting to me. I mean along with like all these teams are losing all kinds of stuff that the the national play that your race is kind of wide open. 'cause it's it's a yeah. There's there's nobody that like Zion. At this point of the season last year is already one. Yeah it was over. It didn't even matter. Don One in the champions classic which is why it's okay. Yes so there you have it. That's I think we're both in agreement. I think if I had to give the award out out today I would give it to Datsun But I want top to win it. That's that's where I stand right now. Okay his name is obeyed I so I would say he deserved it just for that anything else before we go. North Carolina State and Kevin Keats a lot of people. A lot of eyeballs are that are saying is state is good as advertised. Obviously they just did it. Hit a half courtship Marco Johnson and a half court shot against UNC G. which is you know maybe alarming? Who knows what they play at? Auburn Auburn is another team. One of the fourteenth left is undefeated but they also lost Chuma. They lost dare harbor. They lost everyone. That matters Pretty much you would think with their team. But they're still twelve and seven the net over so rain pretty last hour. Five team does undefeated. Yes exactly so in that sense if NC state were to go into Auburn get. This win. Didn't help last year but if they were to go and get this huge win against Auburn. I think this will officially seal. The Kevin Keats has the best team than triangle. Or the Rombas. Rombas the ROM. The research. Rama's yeah speaking of speaking of undefeated teams. I Keep Mitch Zia winner. I keep mentioning teams. That are undefeated on the mainland. I have my list here. Oregon Gonzaga Zanga Dayton lost in Maui. Only loss on overtime to the number one team the country So there are undefeated on the mainland And Baylor is only loss was to Washington and Alaska so we have to acknowledge that we have to acknowledge Baylor who Is My blind spot right now. So my coach of the year now is Scott drew and I watch him play at all. I've been watching. Anybody ever watched anybody on Larryelder but I want them to be. I won't Scott You to win coach. Who will do you have another blind spot right now? Any Florida was my blinds by until I watched them and now I know I know why wasn't watching exact. Exactly the Butler game was very. Oh wait they're not popping up. Yeah Baylor's the one team that I keep meaning to get around to Florida state before to do and maybe it was good now. I've learned. I mean they're not bad but they're not as good as I thought they haven't watched the tone of Maryland but at the same time I that's by design. We've that's a it's let's Berlin's in the mix. I'm not watching Maryland until marked. Herden and Maryland do it in March. It's fair that that will guarantee Maryland goes to the final four to watch Maryland though before they play Ohio state the first few January because They play in college park going to win and all the Maryland fans are going to be like watching us now. Are you watching us now. We're up to be. The answer is simple. I had I had a couple of days before you go number. You want a Jon. Rothstein is getting dragged our friend. Our beloved giants. See this with someone I don't even want to dignify the source of this this there. There's a there's a website out there that is Showing the receipts on the Jon Rothstein. Good luck texts. That he sends to coaches and they reached out all these coaches and ask them to screen shot their conversation with rusty. And all these coaches the dialogue with Rothstein is basically just like good luck today. Good luck today. GOODLUCK Because none of the coaches respond. So it's just a series of good luck today texts from from Austin and The Internet is not being kind to baby boy. Who has that just shows persistence? Persistence shows a dedication to the craft. And anyone that's hating on that like you should probably take somebody. But they're roasting a man because he takes good luck to every coach coach every sad and every human being on earth yet. which were probably the craziest thing I've ever heard? There's the hustle. There's nothing to rose there and that it's unbelievable he takes he takes my buddy Was Joking today thank. He's he's like. Hey Good luck before. podcast you do and I was like a joke but the man did text before the season. Good luck this season. The man announced his engagement on her show. I mean this guy. Is We love we love. We love the I had. I had this to this little nugget. Doug it I saw on. ESPN Do you remember the guy from monmouth. The is named George. George Pappas towards pop. He is the guy who they played a key. Love Brian. I love jared with me play. Kansas year steals the ball. When they're down fifty? Oh my favorite player on the see. Yes yes yes yes yes. ESPN interviews him. Why it shows why they didn't do it earlier? I don't know but the story just came out they interview this guy do acuity with them and is basically explaining like that was one of the greatest moments of White Basketball Escobar hit. He got attack he dunked on and he said I don't give a great so. ESPN like George. Why why? How in a word? How did this is George So I was careened through the interview and I came across this and it's hilarious. ESPN S. What did your teammates say to you? And what did your coaches say to you. And Papa says answers this. My teammates mate's besides the fifty point loss. They were pretty excited. Pretty good quote. I mean besides fifty. We had a pretty good time decides the fifty point loss. They were excited. They were pretty excited. It was like we played to the whistle. Were walking out of here with a smile so shout out to George pop former walk on. He walked on at Monmouth got a scholarship after his first year and then dumped on Kansas and gave his teammates a smile after getting their asked. Fifty points points in in a day that we're doing the rankings of places Mama's number one in New Jersey for me you know rutgers gave all the business by the way I like rutgers but mom mama have lost by fifty but did you see that dunk the whole team in King or like this. Just great I love that school king rise needs a bigger your job he needs the UCLA job. That I mean every single job every single person I liked it Martin. Mark poses deserves the UCLA. Exactly everyone I liked. This is like college football like any team win the game. You say we want Bama coach like when's three it's like a ucla show you still job. Dude I mean I still Eric Balsam and did not get the job like that is the most egregious act. It's not too late Arkansas's it sounds like ninety one. I think exactly you still a job if he was at UCLA. UCLA would be tend to know. That's the most bus baby as what we do Less than before we go pins day I got two more Penn state ranked for the first time since nineteen ninety six. Shout out to the NINIAN's Tony Car. Yeah I did. I felt like Penn State had a tough off loss earlier. This year that you do you remember like the they've got blown out somewhere for it where I can't believe them by like forty points. That was like that probably will go down when the big that's actually more impressive. The Carolina winner this. Let's focus on that. Let's focus on hosted. The pins date one Jalen you also Indianapolis and Athletic Director Fred. Glasses retiring at the end of the year so there will be a vacancy at. Iu also told have helped. That's my big. My Dad just like sits in the Y'all Mike like my dad was athletic director his whole career. He's got experience he just sits in the office and bitches about. It doesn't do anything except complain. Archie has to go watch tape with your dad after they. That's it's like goes undefeated. Because he doesn't want to watch the day with no not after they lose. Its after they win. All the problems archie one by twenty. But here's is my proud. Look at this you know who has ties Indiana who now lives in Bloomington. This is a true thing. Bob Knight Bring Bobby Listen Bloomington. Where's Dickie the right now because this is the greatest this is he would be all in for this? I cannot believe the Bob Knight lives in Bloomington. That is a real thing that This man like our joy. Talk about burning bridges. Bob Knight like dropped a nuke on the entire state of Indian on his way out the door and just at first it was like screw the administration Shen and the the Indiana fans were like. Yes Bobby we agree with you. They should not have fired. You and then he's like screw. The university and the fans are like a little still and he's also screw the fans originally. What the hell? And he just screw the state of Indiana. It's three strikes. Yeah he went for like fifteen after the three and the thing. That's funny about it. Is that like if he were to be announced as the Athletic Director of Indiana people would love it if you like Mag Brown Combat Carolina Bob and then he pulled the Popovich names himself coach. Yes and then. He's back What's his name from Wisconsin Berry Alvarez Right? He always does that. He's always liked the and then they need someone for a bowl game. He's like I got all seriousness My sources that the same sources that you get from your PAC twelve circles my sources which is basically dislike. My friends friends is still living. Indiana are telling me that They truly believe that Bob night's GonNa come back to a game at some point and of course this year next year. They're going to get because like what is again adoration again. The man has like there will never be a more burning of a bridge on the way out the door the Bob night when he left I you and now this man really might be at a game. Some here's a dove is thing he'd do go the middle of the Court and then Bernard Jersey Lebron style that would be. That would be salt in the wounds that would be. That'd be our coach. Come on the pod bobby. All right right that's it. That's a show We will be in Vegas on. You're going early though. I'm going Thursday night. You'RE GONNA be there Friday. We get practice access. There's still a lot of basketball left to be played basketball. Play out before predicting I'm tired of predict I think that's a good thing because I think I think this is is going to officially be the death of Carolina and I'm going to say that every show I think I think I'm always going to be like well Carolina's officially dead now and I'm GonNa be like what. LA is still def. Yeah okay. So here's the plan we're we're GONNA do instead of a show Friday. I'm Sean Braswell host of the thread and I'm back with a brand new podcast presented by ozzy called flashback. A series of stories of unintended consequences. Listen to flashback on the iheartradio. APP, apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. Hey welcome in to this edition of All volubly Doug Gottlieb list to the dugout. Eastern called the three Pacific every single day on Fox sports radio. You're on the APP thing the iheartradio APP. If you want to stream us, you're sitting in working at home now. That's Fox sports radio. Dot Com every day we talk. Whatever is the latest topic in sports? I know there's not live sports we. We've talked a lot about the last dance and we're GONNA. Have Mark Price join me. Me The? Great Sharpshooter Enid Oklahoma Mark Price Arena where I played with with USB L. Storm, obviously and I and who knows dad is brother Brent in his late father, Danny was just a a great great man. Actually our assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Storm, so marco join us in a moment I wanna give you a couple of thoughts here on the first incarnation of the last dance which. is in fact which which was good I've been told. The second episode is the slowest of the ten, although not all tenor finished I've had people watch them all whatever they have, and said that one was the a episode of all of them, which did feel that way. I thought there was a lack context day with the Scottie Pippin story only in that now to Jordan have a problem with them. Taking the summer off of getting surgery, but we forget in ninety four. When Jordan retired to play baseball that was Scottie Pippen. Wanted out of the game, because because Phil didn't run the platform, a man for Ku coach Cuco shot, and then it becomes a big to do, and of course they ultimately lose in the series to the New York Knicks. That's that's an issue. These are all in. You have long relationships with people when you kind of quitting your team because you're not getting the ball down the stretch in a big situation. that. There's going to be some shrapnel there. There's GonNa. Be some some hard feelings there and then for sky. I didn't get the surgery because I want to have a long beautiful summer. You know at them like that's. That's a fuck you to the organization like. I don't know like we can sit here and go Jerry Krause was this and that it's got sign a long term deal that at the start of the deal was a was one of the top ten. Players in the NBA and by the end of the deal it was not by the end it was a bad deal. He would have gotten paid and taken care of. which he did, he just didn't get it with the Bulls. That's you know that's the way you make it work. So I mean. This is actually very similar to a lot of places at work. Where you know you, you sign a long term deal, you think you want security and then in the middle of getting security. You feel like you're getting screwed. Because other guys get more money. In the end the day made over. A hundred million dollars is a player like I just. I don't know I I agree with your ordinary got lost in the moment lost in his own issue, and we're supposed to forget that. He quit on the team in ninety four. That was a bad bad bad look. I also think that this is interesting and I said it on radio and I'll say it to you. You ever notice how we take documentaries as the end all be all. The end all be all. Like there was a doc on. I forget the company's name. That the report that the trump election committee hired. and. You know they were the Cambridge analytics. We're like Cambridge if you watched it. You're like Oh Cambridge online Scott. All bad people they were simply working for the Republicans and this and then you if you do a little bit of research. If you do a little of research that Cambridge analytics like some of the people who Cambridge the the documentary was counting on to be whistle blowers. They weren't being totally forthright. They weren't being honest. But between that documentary, the Tiger King and now the last dance. Like, can we can we collectively do ourselves solid and stop take a breath. Think about just think really long and hard about whether or not we. That that. There are two sides to every story and maybe if. It's like the tiger king. Joe Exotics bad guy. There were people who had a petition together to get him pardoned. And I don't know of Carol asking killed her husband and fed him. She had under the Tigers, but I would think that would be a little bit further along in an investigation. We wouldn't need a documentary done cover that thing. She was made out to be a horrible human being, and she may be definitely creepy thought. There was no good people know that as my takeaway. But. We Watch this documentary. There's GonNa be a lack of balance because somebody has to tell the story and Jordan tell most of the story. I with that, let's let's get mark price. He's one of the great point guards. Who I think would carry over to this era quite well because he was an unbelievable shooter passer play. A pick and roll player. And by the way, a really good guy whose family has given back to the game and teaching the world shooting. For the last. Fifty years or so. Let's catch up with great mark price. Be, sure to catch the live edition of the Doug Gottlieb show weekdays at three PM Eastern noon. Pacific on Fox sports radio in the iheartradio APP. Welcome, Minis boomer NBA All star course. Head coach Charlotte and longtime assistant coach shooting coach in the NBA. He's done just about everything in basketball. He's mark price I actually a usually. We like to start early and then work to where you are now. Kind Kinda, jumble the order just because. The only thing anyone's talking about in sports outside the NFL draft is the last dance which the Jordan era coincided for the most part with with your spectacular career in the NBA and your last year. Play in the NBA was Jordan's last year playing with the Bulls. Just your your thoughts on the first two episodes and what you saw. Obviously for everybody, particularly in in my era. And for me, personally haven't. Haven't Kinda been there and experienced it, and actually played those guys and it It's interesting to kind of get the back stories. You kinda think you know stuff that it's always fun to kind of get. Get more details and. And kinda see what's from their perspective. You know what was going on during during that time, 'cause you own the kind of saw. He'd come to town the HOOPLA. The Bulls team at that time. you know when you played and. Either liked the bulls he didn't like. The Bulls you know one of those kind of things and and so I think it's for for those of us that lived. It was I thought interesting Start to it. Okay But he lived at as you guys. There were several years there were. You had incredible teams right like you know fifty five plus we had a couple of fifty plus win teams and you couldn't get like he was the nemesis. Predating you, but but but but he was the nemesis. What let let's start with Jordan himself I. You've worked for as well What was your first Michael? Jordan experience was was when. My actual I Jordan experience with in college. Are you know I? I play the Georgia? Tech those that don't know and. North Carolina! You know had just won the national championship Michael Just like the shot. He was a sophomore when I was a freshman. Georgia, tech and And so you know playing against him at that time, and then also after my freshman year. I've I was picked to play on the eighty-three Panamerican Team with Michael. And so. You know I would play within I played against him. you know at college to to what he turned out to be in the NBA so i? I kinda know the whole spectrum of kind of his growth development. As a player because I think you know as good as Michael wasn't college I don't know that anybody would have predicted. He would have become. You know, in J. You know, and and what he became a at the level. Okay so so when when you first played against him in college your freshman year. He's a sophomore. What was he like? Well. He was. He was obviously a very talented player, but you also have to realize. He was playing at North, Carolina under dean. Smith and his system. You Know I. Think the joke goes around a lot. The only person I could ever stop mice. Absorbing was dean, Smith. Because he added style that they played, and it matter who you were. You fit into that style and. And so you saw glimpses of of his greatness, and his ability, but I don't. Think. It was a situation at the college level where he. You know could totally take over game. You know I'm like you can have the NBA level and so you know he's game. Just I think there was a lot to his game that people didn't see in college just because of the system that he quite in. So you, go to the Panamerican Games team I have. I had the roster by the way in front of me. it's an unbelievable roster you Chris. Mullin Mike Michael, Jordan Michael Cage Ed Pinkney Charlie Sitton. Was Incredible Played Oregon. State Wayman Tisdale. one of the all-time Great not only Oklahoma Products University of Oklahoma Tulsa. who was a first team all American? His first three years in College Leon would of course played in the Olympic team in eighty four. Who's now an official NBA official? This is Sam Perkins. Re remarkable roster. What was that experience like? it was it was an unbelievable experience. You know I I was Kinda shaking myself because I was just a freshman. You Know Georgia Tech and. You know I went to those trials and the thing that was funny about those trials was the coach was the legendary Jack Hartman sure from from Kansas State and I had turned him down to go to Georgia Tech. they recruited me extremely hard Lon Kruger. Was this cop assistant who recruited me to Kansas State that had I not GonNa Georgia tech is a good chance that would've ended up at Kansas State and so you know I got invited to the trials I was like well. I'M GONNA. Go enjoy this experience. There's no way Hartman. Sticking me. That probably on that team and and yet he did out which spoke a lot to him his character that he was wanted to get the. Best guys and make the best fit of team to go play internationally so. It was an unbelievable experience. You, you mentioned roster. And all those guys are just fantastic. We had a blast. In. Getting a chance to go play together. And it career at GD means owning the opportunity to play a crucial role in transforming how agencies operate, join it for challenging and impactful work that advances your career apply now at GD dot com slash careers. Gi is an opportunity employers bill. Clinton. Was Jordan. The best player was Tis Dale the best player. Jordan was the best player a kind of you know had. You know got the. Hank taken off a little bit. You know I think he. He let loose not not being in that North Carolina system, so he kind of let loose and showed what? He could do and. And, he was definitely the best player, but we have so many guys that were capable on that team and. On one night given to the other, but I think Jordan lettuce and scorn for the Pan Am Games but Like. You said we had so many great players on that team. Kind of amazing. WHO's your roommate? I can't remember to be honest. It's that's that's Kinda Weird I. Know that It was one of those they had this. Initially like A. Olympic Village ideal that wasn't very well down. This was in Caracas Venezuela and there's of crazy stuff going on during that time, political stuff and member. He needs kids with guns or escort, and to these games and stuff. It was kind of scaring some ways. That they eventually moved to a hotel got us out of there. And the living situation and When I think about I think it was called me. Tell me to one of the guys that the that was worth. Again I I I apologize for skipping around because it is actually hard, I know to remember that way, but the next year was eighty four. You went to the four trials, and there's like all these famous unbelievable players you among them. That didn't make the team Jordan did Barkley, didn't you didn't Stockton didn't What what was what was the what were the eighty four? Bob Knight, was the coach. The Olympics were in Los Angeles now. Of course you established star in the ACC coming off your sophomore year coming off with playing for the Pan Am Games teams. What was the eighty four tryouts like and I guess. Why didn't you make it? Well I think you know Bobby Knight. Kinda had his own ideas of what he wanted when he was going in I think there's. A pretty good idea that. My perspective because he had that team kind of already taken mind. was disappointing because we were kind of under the impression that You know I mean like you said. We were so good that that Pantene that. Haven't kind of dominated the way we did that, we would. Behind them consider to be on the Olympic team, but. You know Bobby. Knight came in and he kinda. Thing and. You know you had had a kid that took. Happen to be going to Indiana the next year or something like that offers. he put on the team, but yeah, there's so many guys. That was my first experience. It was funny because going to the Olympic trials and. I experienced a neat Charles. Barkley actually sat my on the plane. I'd never met him I really never heard of it at that point. And he just. Dominated those trials. It was so that I mean that guy was amazing, so look a lot of guys that were certainly deserving of being on that that didn't get picked. It was so different than you know like the point. Is You know Charles Barkley. You was playing in college and you had never heard of him. You know never seen him. Play means really, whereas now everybody seems to know everybody even more so than when I played, you know. You Basketball Twenty five years ago you'd still you get to an all star game and you? You know I remember first time. I saw Kevin Garnett Oh. My Gosh, she's better than everybody else. And that was. My senior year was an unbelievable class. But yet to see guys for the first time especially when you play the like when you're in the ACC. Your I mean you had. Ins at Duke you had. Your Len bias at Maryland. Your guys at Georgia Tech North Carolina Virginia, Ralph Sampson was a three time player of the year I. Know Not all these years kind of coincide and others it kind of jumble of years. But but you, you feel like that's where all the great players were, but then there's these players that you've never seen before. Never heard of before and now you're playing against him. Yeah. It was definitely different world. We looked I. mean you didn't have. Cell phones. I mean we didn't have Internet. So you didn't have the access. You know funny funny stories. That you know this is this. Show the difference you know in high school, and and and the ability the no, no people but. You know when I was being recruited by Georgia Tech. I knew they were recruiting John Salley. You know kid from New York, but I. You know I didn't know anything about him. You couldn't pull up anything to find out about him. I knew he was. You know six nine. You know coming out of come out of New York. And we show up. Campus first night about. Two in the morning and I. Here's on my door. And Open the door I'm half asleep obviously. And John, Salley got this big necklaces spider on it around his neck, and you know John the character everybody knows. and. person. Says worst price. And I said I'm price. And he goes you're, white. and. You know it was like here. We weren't being recruited. We knew of each other novelists wife, I it's. So, it just doesn't show the different world that we grew. Grew up in. In the way things were done, but But yet to your point, playing in the ACC back then was. JUST ABOUT EVERY POINT GUARD AGAINST You know played in the NBA. Kitty Smith and North Carolina your doctors. My bugs that wake forest made no no one. You know at at NC state along with Spud Webb I'm. Not In that out it was. You know so You know we were kind of in. That fumble likes to your point. We felt like all, but that's quite as we're in the ACC. But then you know you go to a pain at. Olympic tryouts and get to see each other players from around the country and it was. A lot of fun to. See how many good players that were you run into guys? Barkley Stockton guys you've never heard of. My My My story kind of like that was when I when I signed. It, Notre, Dame, There was a kid named Gary Bell Out of Juliet Illinois and he was listed six eight. And we played in the. COCA COLA! All American game that Bob Knight's son ran in Indianapolis. And I never forget I show up for practice, and already gone going up and down because I was like the only west coast kid there. And I was like which ones. Gary Bell pointed that when was like shoot? He was supposed to be six eight, and so he comes over and I go dude. I thought your six eighty 'cause man, if I was six eight I be outlawed in three states. Like six five. Six Five. Okay, so let's let's go back. You grew up now. Obviously. You're late bothered. Denny was a legend in the basketball. Community I got a chance to state your parents house after my freshman year Notre Dame because he had worked worked for and work with John. Macleod, but now your entire childhood was in Enid Oklahoma. no actually you know. My Dad would be in a coach. We moved around a lot. Of It was in Oklahoma started out. He started out as a high school coach in In Bartlesville Oklahoma where I was born. you know. Actually. You Know He. He played back in the old industrial age groups. You worked for those petroleum and played for the Phillips Sixty sixers. Back in the westerly, and then he decided to get into coachee and Ended up being an assistant for John Macleod. At University of Oklahoma. And then when John went to the Phoenix Suns We moved out there for two years, so you know. Really when I fell in love with the game, you know my dad was an assistant from seen accent since. Ten years old and getting to go to all the NBA Games. Didn't watch. Guys like Dick Van Dale and Charlie Scott and. All the other guys that's just that's that's when I was like man. That's. That's when I really fell in love with game of basketball, but then. You know eventually. He got a head coaching job at San Houston state, so we lived in Texas for about four years, and then going into my high school years as when we moved back, the Oklahoma to. But they've been there ever since so. My High School years we're in my brothers. Live there longer, but But. That's kind of where it all started. Why Georgia Tech because I think I think what happens now as we look through the glass of today and and figure out. What like your freshman year? Georgia, tech, you guys weren't good record wise. You know you and John Salley. Starting his freshman guys became very good, but you weren't good. WH, why would you go play for for a New Yorker in the ACC Georgia Tech instead of Jack Hartman K., state instead of playing at Ou at Oklahoma state or Like why Georgia Tech? Rose interesting kind how it unfolded yet to your points Georgia, tech had just gotten into the ACC. One or two years before I showed up in. One of the worst programs in the country. Bobby cronies took over and And he got you know, go to sincere. Bobby said I gotta find a point guard and I gotta find a big man. To start my programs. And they were so bad. They obviously couldn't go. You know I kid bobby all the time because after after I left, he was able to get Kenny Anderson's staff on Marbury. He could go for accurate i. get him the staffing. I said you know if I were out there today, you wouldn't even come. Recruit me because I was so far under the radar, but That's all he could recruit at that time. And his assistant George Felsen Thami play. And then you turn them in out in Florida. We had unbelievable wanting to on that team with me, we have. Really good guy. Anthony. You know bunch of guys. There's enough making the crows and soon Oklahoma's not necessarily to be basketball. It's more football. But we had an unbelievable payments. George Felton some plays in called Bobby. He says I I've found found points ARCS. Need Up, the know bobby. You didn't think anybody at that time outside of new. York City can play basketball sure when flora each. Customer George saying I'm not going to Ford it or crew. Kidding. Georgia's no bobbies better, not kids from Oklahoma. In so Of course the real. The rules are different back then. They came to watch any place seventeen times my senior year. So as I started. Thinking schools to go visit. I was like well. At least I gotta go lease. Visit these school they earn that they've they've worked there their, but offer cruising meat, but at the time I was planning on staying close to Home I love. All this I was being recruited by all the schools Oklahoma from State Tulsa Nolan Richardson of it at the time, and they'd just come off a great run with Paul pressing and those guys. and can't stay. And so I was really looking at. Fairly close, but You know I had my left things that I have priorities that I was looking for in a school, and and you know from academics to. You know back then. There was no comparison. The ACC was was the best conference in the country. And I was always a huge North Carolina Fan. and. They kind of pass on this because they said not small. The. Georgia tech came along I, went and visited and kind of fell in love with the situation. And I wanted to go somewhere where I could play right away and tech was so bad at the time. I mean that that was going to happen. there. you know people forget to back. You know in Meyer your a Lotta guys. If you went to good program, we were looking at probably not getting much until your sophomore year right because you know you had guys. Plaintiffs were seniors so It was a different different environment. I wanted to go somewhere. I could quite right away I wanted to play against the best. tech with the great academic score just put. All the boxes. It just happened to be a long way away from home. But that ended up being the best decision obviously. You are the ones that's GonNa make a difference. Most point you had high school is how many? With no three point line though, right? No three point line and that was bad. In three quarters I remember we were beating a team and. You know pretty bad and I'm. Sitting over the bench, and and my coach dusty become tomorrow back in and score. Two more baskets didn't even not really know what he's talking about eating. Say Anything. So, I go back in score. Two more baskets and They announced that I have fifty points hundred even though have that many foot So, yeah, it was A. Quarter walk. When I work with Your Dad obviously I'm not sure your your late father would like to claim me as as one of his students on shooting. With? Here's here's what's fascinating. Okay, so my freshman year at Notre Dame. John Macleod I shoot an air ball at the free. Throw line against rutgers. I Ever Big East game, and we had a fourteen point lead. We ended up losing at the rack it rutgers and I shot a shot in air ball, and then I made the next one. and honestly it wasn't really on my mind, but I had I developed a little bit of tension at the free throw line. Hunter was like late in high school I was never like you guys but I was a good money like foul me at the end of a game I'll make him free. Throw shooter, and it just started to kind of get a little tight little bit of the hips. But it wasn't that bad and the next day the way it worked at Notre Dame was you'd get like a blinking red light on your phone in your dorm room, and it would be a message from coach McLeod Secretary and she would say you know. Can you come down and meet with coach at such and such time and and John Macleod he was. was unbelievably classy human being he would never rip you in front of the team. He never everything was very general Notre Dame we got this Notre Dame. Where Mature Notre Dame were this, but it would never be personal at all now. When you went into his office, you closed door now. He would now it'd be much more personal whether it's positive or negative anyway. So we sit I. sit down his office Sunday morning. and. We flip on the game and I think we're going to watch the game and what went wrong? He wants to know what went wrong with the free throw line and I was like I dunno coach and you know. I really started lifting weights. I'd gotten big little musclebound. So apparently had called your dad so coach McLeod goes out, and we start changing my free. Throw form a shooting form. Now Keep Mine John. Macleod never played basketball, so it's basically like your dad describing him what I should do and one of the things. One of the adjustments that was made was actually my left hand kind of almost in front of the ball. And then, when in the summer I came and I stay with your parents and your dad did the same thing. Then Brent walks into the one day when he comes back from plan. And he walks in the gym and were shooting together. He goes wise your left hand in front of the ball. I said well. That's what your dad did, and he goes on to that. Don't don't don't don't don't do that and but you. Do you guys? Do I mean look? You're one of the greatest shooters in the history of the sport. Okay, so in terms of shooting. How did you develop? How'd you develop perform? How'd you develop your shot like when you're? I know this is far afield from what everybody's talking about today, but there's a couple of things that you did. and I want to get to the pick and roll in a second, but in terms of shooting the basketball. You know what what's the thought process in building the perfect jump shot like the one you head. Well I think there's some basic things one is. You know. Preparation you know I think one of the things particularly when I talked to teach shooting and work with people most people when they think shootings. is starts from the waist up. You know. Where's your elbow? Where's you know? Where's your follow-through wears? You know. What are you focusing on? Those type things and those are important, but You. Know Your your footwork in your balance to me. Is is where a lot of where it all starts. The United I. Think most of the Mrs just you can break guys shots, but even guys that are are pretty fundamentally sound. Most of their shots and to be. They're not ready to their off balance footwork's not not needs to be. They're not ready to shoot it when they catch the ball. And, so that was just something that was. You know just a real peppy. You know just was constantly working my feet All my hands I was. Ready to get rid of it because one I had to. Get my shot off. Quick 'cause I wasn't very big. You know comparatively that most of the guys. I was playing against and so. That was just something I worked on, but Getting that ball, you hear you know getting the ball machine, the shooting pocket and and Have nothing ready. You know I think guys get relating with that stuff and I was just something that I always tried to consistently shoot the ball the same way every time and I think that's consistent came from. Did you have a routine like daily? Did you have like what is the what's the? What's the process you went through of a? Your shot like. Is it every day? I, got up and I shot in the morning, and I shot at night was her certain number like when when you think back to your early days as a player. What was the was the pattern by which you built your around? Yeah. I mean it was You know I just spent a ton of time in the gym, but I I was always very purposeful and what I did you know I I see kids with you and my biggest thing when I talked about shoes, and you've got practice with purpose, you know around which is Jan I got up one hundred shots. That doesn't. Mean anything to me like what you know. What Kinda shop you know what were you? What was your appropriation? Those hundred shops? What is that you're working on and? I think that was. The one thing that kind of separated me. 'cause you hear this other. He's a hard worker. Type thing all the time, but. You know. You can work hard and. Be Spinning the wheels and a lot of ways in my mind, because you're not pregnant units and that out there with a purpose. You know one thing I would do. My wife even says all the time when she talked to my boys or whatever that? Might. See something that somebody did over the course of. You know whether I move I wanted to makers. Another move that I wanted to add to my arsenal. and. I would add that work on that all summer. You know to try to add so I would go back. because. You know how it is i. mean especially now, so sophisticated I mean everybody knows every single thing do. You know how they're gonNA shut you. Down You gotta constantly be growing gotTA constantly. Add things to your game. And I just felt like that was kind of helped me. Stay ahead of the curve. Always you know the competition level you know, ACC level and colleges stop the charts. And so to the best and the convenience the best you gotta constantly be including finding ways to add it'd be better. You know you are Steve Kerr credited with being counted the first to really know how to split a pick and roll your unbelievable in pick and roll, and it's interesting because you look at the some of the things that that Steph curry does are things honestly that you did you know the ability? Some guys can shoot off the catch. Some guys can shoot off the dribble. You could shoot off both now. What Steph does the the rain that he doesn't from going to his right going to his left his almost other worldly, but there is a there there is if you study if you study what you did, there's a lot of you're kind of the first like you said you were ahead of the curve but that was you know you're in an era of more passing game, right or more motion offense. Where did that come from? How did you develop a such supreme game using the pick and roll? Since because. I don't know if I ran taken role for four years in college. Like you said we You know based around the passing game. I bring the ball to floor. I pass it I'd go down come off to. Catching shoes you know. That's kind of where the game was played during during that time and so. You know actually is the NBA offer. It opened up my game. To a whole new level you know I know. There was a lot of people didn't think I'd be play the NBA, but you know I had. My skill set that I didn't even really get to use in college. My ability to do stuff off. The dribble is what people. Think for sleeping limping on. Because, I never got to see me. Do it a lot at the college level. Churkin so. You know when I came manny obviously Brad daugherty. Here's Berry. I mean. One of the most underrated pigment doesn't get. The credit had not had injuries. I mean five time all stars who was? Unbelievably skilled talented player. we get kind of clicked together with the pick and roll. everybody when I think. Are they always talking about Stockton Malone, but I wouldn't put Brad. Myself. Right there with any day from you know. We were so good. It was impossible stop. You know with my ability to shoot the ball coming off picks to how Brad. How we read each other and his ability, it was just uncanny, but You know it's funny because my freshman year how the split kind of came about? It just kinda happened. Wasn't something that I. Worked on at the time. I remember vividly because We're finding Philadelphia Seventy sixers and the great. You know cheeks who was a great defender at the Point Guard position? But I just come off. We've played in Cleveland Against Philli. Stepped my career high at that time I think I'd like third, twenty, nine or thirty as rookie that game. And I was just. Killing it. From three point line. and. So. Like we did back in those days, you had a lot of back to backs with the same team, so we go to Philadelphia the next night and I mean in their life. When I get! The game was coming off the bench that first year I came again came off and they were like. They were like attacking these. Trapping me and It was crazy. About third or fourth time I come off and they're big guys jumping. I mean jumping hard at me. and. He jumps and I just Kinda instinctively this thing opens up kind of like the Red Sea and I, just instinctively kind of. Kind of you know. Throw the ball between US trapped. Take a couple of steps catch it and score. And Raising. It was so memorable Tim because. As a running down the floor. Let's man. That was the sweeten. And so I was like moat cheeks, sweet, moving that from that point on I kind of purpose purposely when I worked started looking for that and That's just kinda how it developed, and then I just it just kept growing mayor, but. The white teams back then and your way. They tried to double team traffic. And Patrick you coast together in Orlando he's the why he said I used to get so mad at. Yale and it needs to jump out there and he goes. I knew you were just GonNa split me every time. And You know it was something to Kinda came about now. You see so many guys doing it know I don't know if I was the first guy to do it, you know. I reluctantly credit for that, but a lot of people give me credit for being one of the first guy to do it. That your rookie class, so your draft by Dowse was the it was a trade for to the cavs so hot Rod Williams you Johnny Newman. Ron Harper and Brad daugherty like that's. That's an unbelievable group of rookies. to go to the cavs me, look at all the success that you guys had. Ron Obviously was was a big time score. Before. He laughed and then he got hurt with the clippers and. And now he's remembered as as more of a winner in an all player But that was. Did you know you had something like what was again? It's Kinda similar honestly to George. Attack In that people forget the cats were terrible. And then you guys have this remarkable draft class and like two years later. You guys win fifty seven games. What what what? What was that like to be with such a talented but very young calves roster? Well it was It was. It was just a lot of fun. You know it was Kinda rebuilding deal. We have the five rookies like you said the other thing that hot Rod Williams you know had been drafted year before because of all the stuff he was going through it. They didn't allow him to play. Its first year and so. You know yet Brad Rod Ron. Mean Johnny. We all came in together. And it's. You know I'd say this all the time I don't know why why that that draft has to be. One of the best all time. You know for one team and. You. Don't hear much about that, but Yeah, it was. It was fun you know. Ron was was trip like you said. Most people think Iran is kind of Clare and when championships and that. With, it, big time said. Coming out I, mean really by his second year and Cleveland. Mean, join these drexler, but. I don't know if anybody else you. Watch put ahead of him. You know he was. He was really good and things he's. He was at Flasher that we had included him after he left really hurt us. from some kind of competing, but that I really believe the frenetic day we would have a chance at winning a couple of championships with that good. You guys the next year you made the playoffs for the first time right and that was that was the first time that was the first time that you guys lost to the Bulls. I think when I went and looked this. Jordan's first two games he had fifty and fifty five. Remember correctly in. That Lenny's hold Lenny Wilkins. Was your coach right and his whole deal. His whole deal was. We're not we're going to. We're GONNA. Have if he beats us by himself beaten by himself, but we're not going to double team Jordan and like every year he would, he would beat you right? Wasn't that is that? Is that an accurate depiction of the scanner report? Yeah, that's pretty accurate you know Michael Probably scored fifty or more against us than anybody else, but During the season. Most of the time we would win those games. I remember if thing that most people don't remember whenever they talk about the shots here that he needs. That first of all, that was like a first round series and it. Wasn't for the championship. But It was a five game series back then. And we were banged up. I didn't even play I in that serious about a pulled hamstring, but we had beaten the goal six times at here. It's you know against that? And Goes I'll get it back to game five and he has shot. I mean that's how that's how good we work. And he was just. An uncanny ability. You know in the playoffs. were. It wasn't like we weren't playing. Well are at a high level. We were playing really well and. He would just say what a take a different level of course. It was Scottie. Pippen's development is I think a lot of people are going to see in this last dance things. Was Scotty Pippin. This was the difference maker in so many ways. In how so? Well. He was just I mean he wasn't just the number two guy he was, he was legit. You might have been in some people's minds. Like the second best player by? In Know League and the here is that good talent is Ability to take crash off Michael defensively and handle the ball. All kinds of different things that he did, but. WAS UNBELIEVABLE AND You know when when when he broke out. It was like. For for just about everybody else. Though we're apart these days sharing more so at Geiko, we'd like to say thanks. Thanks for sharing your savage dance moves. Thanks for sharing your diy haircut fails. You guys are up one hundred ninety nine. You're at home. What do you remember about the huddle before the shot? Well even take you back three seconds before that we were down one. Six seconds ago. And EGO throws the ball down. Jordan's covering him. Michael Turns is head Craig. Dives to the basket. Berry hits in. Layup. We're up one. You scored two quick. Still, they're still three seconds left, but A lot of people don't even realize that part of the story I mean. It was just the way the motions Nagy was unreal. I'm here. We were down. One with six seconds left one with three seconds. And basically. Lenny's plan was the double team. Owner Jordan at the double team and You know Larry Jumps out to try to Kinda. Help Consi- which looking in hindsight I think. The better play would have been the maybe. Making, catch the ball more at half court areas. He kinda went out Larry months back kind of back cut. They got involved and he got the ball to his sweet spot. The free throw line. And credit unbelievable job at Jason He's right there and Michael just hangs. Let's pass and then hits the shot it was. Incredible incredibly disappointing for us. Obviously and everybody in the building, but You know what great players do the believable shot. Fifty seven wins. That year did you get was the next year the you got hurt? got out ninety ninety one. And that one of the for you on the first guys to Nellie tears, acl but come back, didn't you? You hit you ran into. The boards is one of those the first incarnation of the rotating signs, wasn't it? was actually in Atlanta of all places we were playing I went and chased a loose ball jump, and then I kinda landed on that kind of rotating fine thing and. You know my acl and like you said at that time. That was a career career ending. Injury. I was actually the quickest back from that at that point in time. Which shows you that? You know the difference in technology today, but. I was back in eleven months. And now guys get back four or five months whatever they're playing, but. I came back and. We've able to make the all star team and. Spent quite seem to miss a beat. You know fortunate. But they did a great job was obviously my surgery Rehab and everything else. They would get back. It is fascinating on how you mentioned on. How people don't point out Craig's layup. People don't point out how great your draft class was, and it is because we are so one it's it's Jordan thing, but it's you know it's. We're like A. we're like a bottom line business as as as sports, commentators or sports fans right like we, we talk about the Pistons only because they want to championships you know obviously celtics as well whereas you guys were consistently competitive when healthy, even though you lost Ron and then the year. You got hurt you, weren't you? Guys weren't very good, but you guys. Were you know a fifty plus win team just? Get past the Bulls. What is that? What is that like to have? So many guys have unbelievable careers, but not have. History smile down upon you as well because it's covered up under the shadow of the Jordan era if you will. Yeah mean it's You know I think it's it was. It's difficult times because I mean everybody wants to be appreciated for what they. Of course you know people in Cleveland. They absolutely loved our team. I mean they. Played Matanza. Graham I still go back up there and it's. It's unbelievable. I, mean how much they love loved. RT's, but you know from an eighth national level and You know we obviously weren't weren't appreciate it I think you talked to. Any of the players that play Nyeri even the volks. I mean even though they were beaten us, it wasn't like. I mean every one of those games were down to the wire. It seemed like. And we were you know it was going the distance most of the time, but you know they were. Just a little bit better than they had. The superstar player and I think that was Russ. We have so many great great basketball players in all star. Guys, but you know. Not that one guy that could just. You know take over games, you know. We did it as a team. As a collective group I love I mean at unbelievable teammates. And it was a blast plan. we? We got everything. Possibly, we could out of our abilities and I think that's. That's what satisfying knowing that. You know not everybody's GonNa win a championship you're. So many great players, it's not. Like, you said. Fortunes got a smile down on you a little bit and do things category away from you gotta be healthy. You get it, you know. Get a break here and there. Just didn't quite happen for us, but to me doesn't diminish. My career doesn't diminish what what we we accomplished because. Like you said it was when we came in there, they were the cadavers. And When we left, it was You know. Perennial playoff franchises and so We're proud of what we accomplished. you've been able to play in and now coaching. You know all kind of maybe three of these these generations Larry Bird and the Celtics what what was what an experience like the play against Larry Bird. in the in the peak of his career. Larry was. I mean. You know that air was was unbelievable. You know along with magic in what he did with with La. But you know there's just something about those guys Larry I mean he's obviously surrounded by unbelievable players as well but. Just feel for the game knowing how to play the game I think that's the difference in. The way. The Games being played right now you know I mean you can. People can argue this and that. But. I. Just you know from my own standpoint, you know I'm just the poetry of of playing the game all over the floor. And that's what a guy like you know. Bert convy. I, mean you know he was planning this area today. And shooting twelve thirteen three threes a game. He could do that. But that. In play the whole game, he played all over the floor and going back to your point I. Think one of the things that allowed me to. You know be good. At the NBA level, and the pick and roll, and all the things that was because growing up. You know we were just practiced. On every shot all over the before. If you're open a fifteen feet if you're shooting a runner eight-seater. You know if you're shooting twenty five, so you didn't have a line you know I didn't have three point line to I got to the. And I think from my perspective really hurts the development of Clare's because you can't even go in a gym I, mean I. I'd be basketball camps and. Then you go in for the camp starts. I mean. When you think it was a? You know you're going to get shocked because she crossed that. Line I mean every kid out there of course in Greece. You know they don't know how to shoot yet. You know and they're. They're out there. Hoisting three point line and you know, and it's just the nature of the game now. Breeze layups increase. That's all anybody wants to do, and so you know from my perspective. You will draw a little bit of the poetry of the game. I mean the Skyhook from cream up Jabbar on the, it wouldn't fit today because of the analytics I mean. So many great players ability to score from all over the floor and I. Think what guys like Larry Magic in that group. They were just so fun to watch because you know. At the three, they can post up they. Were just so skilled. In all aspects of the game. How. Would you fix it? How would I think yeah? Yeah do you the three point line? You moved to three point line out even further to make it, so it's such a difficult set. Like how would you fix it? I don't know I don't know that. You can pick because just because it's there now you know like I, said I I would get if I was in charge of basketball universe. Three point on until. College! To teach kids how to play the game before I think it was such an advantage for me because that was one of the reasons. You know I was successful. Because if you ran the often three point line I could do other things. I could score I can cheat floaters. I could from pull up from fifteen feet and. That's all because I had to learn to do. All those things because I was getting double team triple team in high school, and having to shoot all over the floor and be creative. Learn how to get my shot. Learn how to create space. You know I think it really stunts the growth. Because you know kids know how to do now. She was spotted three. You know that's why it's fun to watch Steph curry like you say guys that can catch and shoot, but also they can move and shoot it off the dribble and. And that takes. You know playing that way and beaten situations you know. I think a lot. Honestly Mark Mark. Honestly a lot of it is guys. Don't play as much anymore. They they all they. Everybody's an individual workout one on cone, and yes, there's an emphasis in three point shot and lay ups and an runners as well, but there's just you don't have the creativity of having you know when I was a kid, my dad. Would take me to. There's a park called Miles Square Park. It's in Fountain Valley. And there's nine courts and he would take me seven o'clock game. He take me there and old men would start playing whatever and he'd called game for me. Make sure I got my first game. He'd sit there and watch a game or two, and then he'd leave me five bucks in. Is He gonNA come back and get you in the afternoon. Just play all day. And I I do think there's a certain the two things one you need. The have that I'm always in the gym working on you know like you said purposeful practice and working on your shooting in your game in, but also you feel I, think comes from playing. And and. They did they do play games, but they only played like organized a you games instead of just just playing, pick up basketball, just learning with new teammates, and and where you know seeing things develop I know I just you know like I have an eleven year old son I'm trying to trying to teach him how to see what I see and it's really hard because. You know the only time we get the chance to be creative. I'll just haven't opened. Hey, we're just gonNA. Play today and just let guys let guys play, and they literally don't know what to do. They don't know how to call a game. They don't. They have the almost like locked up because they can't understand. There's no scoreboard. There's no pool play, and there's no press into no full court. Press right, just go. Let's just go play and play man. Play basketball! How about? Your window last time you saw. Isaiah Thomas is going to be made out to be. The villain and I think you know some of it is earned. Some of it is is just that that's you know how that. How the Pistons Bulls rivalry kind of ended. You know we talk about the Celtics. Allot talk, but the Lakers I don't. The Pistons are a team that they're interesting. Because they were the bad boy pistons right again also during your era. That's part of why people don't talk enough about what you guys did in Cleveland. You would you'd guard Isaiah. You'd guard Joe Dumars. What were they like? they were great. I and I have we kind of had? You know a little bit of Baraga. We're in the same vision so applying each other. Six six times a year. And You know he was. In this tough news England a great great player like you said I think he's doing is a little bit just because that whole bad boy. Thing that Holte may want. Much as good as they were winning championships, people just didn't like him. 'cause they're way they the way they played the way they got it done. But The! Yeah, we had, we had a great. You know between this great respect for. Bras as a player and. And you know we went at it. You know when when we played and I feel like they're stuck with each that way, but. You know it was great. You know he's another one. These you know undersized. You know. Guys that he was. To win, you gotta get it done you. He was he was unbelievable. How did you? How did you survive in an Eric? As as much as now you can't make it as a five eleven six foot guard unless you can switch on guys, but but there's not you're not. You don't have the seven footers that can score the way that you guys did. Did ride my go through the Pistons not as much, but obviously you know the Celtics said perish, and then Mikhail and ewing in New York and I kind of go through the list of guys. How did you survive like how? How does a six foot guard survive back then defensively and making the league? What what is the what? What's the secret sauce? I think it's just You know top I was fortunate, and obviously they like you said mean. The Times I had three seven footers on the floor with me. So you, just you just learn to be smart and I remember. Larry, Nance, who's one of my. All time favorite teammates great shot blocker from the fourth position. I mean he gets pissed at me. If I fouled guy after I got beat, you know because he's like man. I'm going to block it you don't. Let me go fowler that every, Hicks? That's what it gets. You know the most upset with me or something, but so i. just learned that play with my teammates. You know it's. I never looked at these things. I mean certainly not lockdown defender, but I think I was. Very Fun. I kept guys these. Guys make tough shots. I forced forced guy suits to my help. I knew where it was. I think you just have to? You know be a great team defender. You GotTa know. Your stranger weaknesses and And but more than anything it's just you know a very physical games back when I play, and so you know you just had to. Get hit. You had to fight through stuff. guys like you know Rick Mahorn Charles Oakley looking to take your head off every time he came in way so. You know I think it was just A. It wasn't for the meek of heart. Let's put it that way. You had to come in there. You gotta be willing to those. Battling fight every night. Late in your career, you Steve Kerr was your backup, and he ends up finding a home in Chicago and you know hitting hitting key shots on kind of that second incarnation of the Bulls did was it? Was it ever an opportunity for you to? I don't know if you want to stay chase one or be kind of that. I it always you know. They had all these shooters right? You had Paxton and BJ and. It was Steve. Kerr how come you couldn't get in on that? Opportunity never really presented itself you know. Well where I was out of contracts and things like that but. Now. We've got a lot of respect for those guys. Because that's that's a hard, you know I remember talking to Steve You know mankind's 'cause we. Would friends and winter in Cleveland. and. I, I don't know how you do it. Man I mean it's. Hard to be out there for the whole game and only get three or four shots, and then the one she quits. You GotTa make you gotTa Make Yeah Yeah. That's that's that's your job and I tell I. Tell them this. This I'm sorry to interrupt I. Tell us. But I think it was. Let's see here is what he was with the Spurs in two thousand and two. I went to an NBA finals game game six game six, and if you remember, he hit three threes, I think in the fourth quarter. To seal the deal and win okay, so he didn't play the first half. And I distinctly remember 'cause I was there and I. I got up my first chance to do national radio for the draft SPN right afterwards, and it was be. That's why I went to the game to meet. A guy was executive producer. But I remember like halftime. He comes sprinting out with he and Steve Smith. who were both? Old Heads on that team and he got a bunch of shots up. And he comes in the game for Tony. Parker was a rookie that year, and he hits the three big three's and I tell people to this day like we talk about all these other accomplishments guys had done the finals, and there's incredible things, but to sit there for two hours and not play. And, then come in, and then guard Jason Kidd at one end, and then make make a couple of shots to win. A game is among the hardest things you're ever going to do in like that is, and for a guy like you like at least Steve had been a bench player most of his NBA career, but for you that had to be hard that I, would I'd I understand that's a? A tough adjustment because you've always been after your first year, your rookie year for the most part your starter, and so there's a rhythm to it. There's a volume of shots and touches you get, so it's not as foreign, but to sit there for two hours and then hey, dude. You GotTa make an NBA three. Go Guard by some guy who's five inches taller than you. That's an unbelievable accomplishment. I agree with you. That's one of the hardest things to do in sports I I. Tell You Know I. was you know? All the teams worked on. You know I told guys. You know. Everybody wants to be a starter. Everybody wants to do this, but. I mean you have certain guys that have made a career out of being able to do those things I think that's one of the hardest things to find you know what I mean S.. Lou Williams what he does! You know I mean coming off the bench and. You know guys over the years that have been able to play that role and you know. Like, those guys I mean the way. The bull scene was set up. I mean Michael was going to get thirty five shots got. He's going to get twenty. Down the road telling you know Paxton and. J. And even those guys. They were GONNA get. Maybe four or five? You know at best, and you never knew when they were coming, and then my acting one year, his kids, the game winner in the playoffs. Steve One and you know to be able to make those shops with. Without being what I call in rhythm. I mean you hadn't touched the ball for two quarters and all the sudden. You know five seconds in the game, Jordi but up to you finally. You gotTa make. The best player who gets the least like you know you, are you in all star? First Team, all NBA three three thirteen be several times over I. Think you know you're you're argued the greatest free throw shooter in NBA history. I think people when you say mark price like oh he. Could he player? You say Isaiah Thomas. He was a great player like go through list. Who's the best player that you played against that? No one discusses today. Always thought. A guy that was really really good. And probably gave me as much probably anybody just because of his size and strength in the way the game was played back. There, and. You Know I. Just was always a winner You know teams always were. We're in the playoffs. Just? Would make big shots who need them, but I always felt like. There's one and actually got the be. Within my last season in Orlando, that I played we were. With the magic together but. was just one of those guys that had a career that most people if you said very carpet I go. And talk enough he was, he was one of those guys. That's really good. News toughest Salisu those those teams and play for John Macleod with the with the Dallas Mavericks back in the day at back in the day. As well you get done, you get done playing. And what was your? What was your plan? What was your you know? Your Dad was a coach and I know you started. You coached high school basketball. You coach in Australia. Was it like I want to coach? What was what was your plan when you finish playing? I didn't really have a big clan. My biggest plan when I got through playing was I three small children. And I wanted to be around. my last four years that I played. I played in four different places and. You know. Livan's tough at that point with three small kids and. I was just wanting to. We settled in Atlanta and Kinda were there for seventeen years well on my kids. Kinda grew up. And I kind of started getting pulled in. You know basketball. Get pulled me back in and I started. You know shooting lab in Swanee Georgia. Started work with NBA guys seem start sending people to work with their shooting and things like that and one thing led to another and I kinda. Got Bad. Bobby cremins brought me in and glasses in tech kind of. Went in the system for him to support him. Advice Year Barrett tack and. Started coaching high school, and just wanting to another I never really was thinking. And then you just kind of. With a natural progression, I guess and a good. What was it among the places you work? Do you work for the Bob Cats you work? You work for Jordan for for life to come full circle and to be working in his organization. What was that experience like? it was you know obviously like I said I. Don't think a lot of people knew how far back. Michael and I went. You know people newly played against each other. The NBA level, but I told you we got. We went all the way back to college teammates on the Panamerican Team and so we knew each other for a long time, and to see as an owner was was was kinda different. Than our experiences had been together, but You know. You know it was I. Think he gets? Undoing criticized sometimes for kind of how things gone was Charlotte, but you know he was. He was great when you know I was there. Working for and Let us do our job. In the playoffs and and you know I just leading small market and the way he does about things. You have the way to do things and. You know hopefully they can get it going to that they be. So competitive as a player. You'd like to see these teams. The World Charlotte. Why did you? Why did you take the the UNC? Charlotte I know they don't like being called. UNC Charlotte. Charlotte but why why take me through the process of why you took the job? Well. I think You know the opportunity to be a head coach. I was excited about that You know it was right here in Charlotte was. Is Kinda right. You know already in Charlotte. It just seemed like a seem like the right move to make time and I was excited about it and. I was. Grateful for that opportunity. Then Go. like I would have liked it to you know. About like you know, it wasn't really given opportunities to. What I wanted to do not enough time to do that, but It is what it is and. It didn't work out moved up. And I mean but. I just helped me and and understanding because I'm from a because. It's from far right like Europe person of supreme faith. You know married three kids like there's no. NCAA issues. And considering you know when when your place down major, he had obviously the health issues that caused them to have to leave, so it's not like you took over a program that was. That was killing it. and. I I guess. Are you left? Are you left with the feeling that it was fair? Right that you got a fair shot. No! You know like I said I. Just think like situation. I came into. I could've used more time. But. You know things. People have make decisions for different reasons You're not really can't go into to all the details, but. If you know. It was disappointing because I felt like it was situation. They'd given the time. I was excited about what I could build it, but. I wanted to give him that opportunity. So you know you move on before it did it. Did it Sour You on coaching? No No You know. Like I said I learned a lot I think in any situations you go through good good situations. Are Bad situations. You know you learn from it. I've always been, but I've never been one to. Down like you said I have great faith. And another guy has a plan for for millions in. In forty trust it. You know what you've learned. You'll be able to use in your next opportunity. Why'd you twenty five? Twenty five just. Kind of happened in high school, honestly growing up, I wore fifteen a lot. When I was younger. But when I got to high school, somebody had that so I took over twenty five. In this kind of made it my own you know unique, obviously that I was actually the twenty fifth taken a lot of people thought I picked twenty five, and I played in the because I was strapping twenty fifth. But started you know in high school. made it and I just Kinda kept it I made it known in college, and just kept it all the way through. Your your daughter. Caroline is a great tennis player. What what's that like to experience because? It's it's one thing to have you know. Josh is a player, but it's a totally different thing to have one tennis is such a hard sport. 'cause there's nobody else you can't blame a team teammate really coach. Whatever's just kind of on you right but to be a tennis dad to experience that. What what what what what was that? What's that like to to raise a young woman who became so accomplish but like you're sitting there and just agonizing watching the stands. Up that. This is a different animal. You're used to with team sport and. And I mean. In my wife was unbelievable during that process. Because you know anybody, we think about high level tennis I mean. You really can't go to a regular high school. You know when your top ten in the country antennas because you're having to play these tournaments all over the nation. and you're traveling and they're all during the week. She have to home school and you know. My wife was unbelievable that setting all that up and getting through, but. Yeah, it was. It was hard because. You know watching them play because a lot. You know what you realize it early ages these. There's no, there's no referees. There's no umpires. I mean these kids are out there having to make their own call calls. in having a figure it all out, so it was a it was quite a different experience going in watching the you know. I've just always loved watcher play because she was a competitor, you know and she was. Matter what the situation and she? She had such a great attitude when she played and it was fun to watch her. Okay What coaching your son give if somebody has. if you were going to advise somebody on coaching, your son, what would you tell them? Especially as somebody who's like for you? You're a great player. Right and I can an NBA star first team all NBA. and I'm sure your boys. You know people tell them how good you are, and they've seen how good you get good, you are. What what? How do you? How do you handle that? Both my boys have been great I. Mean They say no? No about me, they know everybody tells them and I'm sure there's some built impression I never. I never put pressure on. You try to be like me. I just wanted to be the best that. Then they could be as far as coaching them. I would probably. If, they could be happy. Plan for somebody else and going somewhere else. I would probably encourage that or just no matter what. What happens what what what you do. I think people treat. Them? Unfairly no matter. Alex handled. You know people. WanNa. Say You're favoring your child and I think that's that's always difficult. Difficult thing even if you're not doing it. But The good side of it. I wouldn't take for. Anything is I how many? And dads get the kind of hang out with their son. That's while they're in college and and be around on. Spend time with them. You know I wouldn't trade that for anything. It's not the easiest situation I for the for the kids. That's for sure. Yeah, it's tough, because no matter what. People are gonNA. Become the scapegoat of ways for things that they shouldn't be. And just because people want to look for somebody to the blind. If they're not playing, there's always a reason you know the deal, but You know. I think some people can do it and had great experiences. Other people. have tough experiences I. Don't think it's. Ever the same for everybody, but it's not always easy. To Be Well when when you coached Hudson at at Charlotte digit. How do you lead Aleve at the gym? Did he stay at home? Did he stay? Did he have his own place? Like how did you? How did you handle it? Don't place You know. He would stay home some as well We have a great relationship. We didn't talk a lot adopt. Hudson was you know I? Mean unbelievable teammates. Basically was about winning. I remember when he when we got here. For! Those reasons I mean his junior year. He was good enough to start for us, but I told him I said. Hey Look I need you to come off the bench. This is why I don't want anybody to. Think anything I'm giving you any kind of advantage. and. You have to deal with, and he was totally cool with all that and I wanNA. Do is try to help us win games and he did that a lot. And so You know he was just one of the he never. Talked about his teammates, or what somebody else was doing or you know it was just we were family. When we were home together, it was just it was family wasn't about player coach or anything like that, but. You know we have to practices and games treated like everybody else. Five years from now. What are you going to be doing? I don't know. You know I've never been a guy that. Looks too far ahead. I kinda take. Days. And What opportunities are there today? Knows wonder actually I'll be taking in five years. All right last thing. You are. By most people's estimation, the greatest free throw shooter in NBA history. I. What was your routine? Where my routine was not thinking. Always insane same. You know as you developed. In College I've probably was I'd have to go back and really look, but I was probably around the during my college career. Probably you know. Eighty five the high eighties. star get to the NBA and obviously I get to spend a lot more time working on my craft, and I'm just. Of My mind like why? Why can't I be a ninety percent pre future? And so I just began focusing and. You know my routine. Wasn't anything accurate I would never go to the line before I got the ball in my hands. That's guys do that all the time I would never. I step back from the free. Throw Line until the of the ball. I would start my routine. And obviously I would put my right foot on the DOT. You know which most most courts have played basketball. Little nail hole right there in the middle. It's in the middle of the room. That's where I took my right and my left side would be about. Shoulder width it'd be back a little bit. Dribble the ball three times get set and shoot it. that was kind of routine but I've done it so much and spent so much time at us. It became just. Second Nature! And then I would start playing games with myself because it gets to be overwhelming in day. It's hard to keep up with Yang. Four hundred for you know four hundred something that so I didn't basically ten ten shot increments. Shoot ten time. And so if I was having to make my. First ten. I was ten for ten. I would start over, so I knew I had a little leeway. Was Eight. To Ten for ten to get up to ninety. So that's Kinda. The Games I played with myself to keep me focused because I think. Biggest challenges we shoot so many so many games as You know, Dermot, Co first quarter, or whatever? It's easy to be not quite as focused as you need to be. I really tried to hone in on that. Did you above the front of the rim back at the rim. Like what do you? Did you just look at the hoop? Did you have a spot that you picked out to aim? Yeah. I was running around. I tried to just drop it in over the phone the rap. I'm not a big stickler on that when I. Is a back room, guys. But. You know. Be Consistent with what you do. Okay I I live when I said lasting one. Here's one thing that you kinda forgot I brought up to a couple of my friends the other day. And that. That never gets discussed. Your freshman year at Georgia Tech. There was a three point line. It was seventeen feet nine inches. And you shot forty four percent from three, so for people don't remember I was early eighties two years. See play I believe was. There are three point line seventy-nine. That's inside the what's now the highschool line and I. Mean You have? That's why you have ever twenty a game. Your freshman year like that's an easy shot for you. Are you the reason that the like now we're not doing. I believe that's true. Bob Knowledge kind of half jokingly said that was mark price. Rule I I. Totally Agree I. That's how I remember it was. They were like this. Is this is not we week? This is too easy for him. Yeah I mean. We were the first conference to experiment with the three point line and it was. It was ridiculously short. And Yod led the League in scoring I beat Jordan now. And It was taken out obviously. The year I left Georgia, tech and Puts the three point line in for everybody and the guy who had a great career because of it Steve Alford was the guy who selected on the Olympic team. Instead of you I. Don't need to bring up. Be Offered I. Just wanted to just WANNA bring that. Bring that up the second you leave. They put it back in and offer ends up benefiting from it. That's. Right. If I took you out. You take you out of the conversation. The best shooter you've ever seen who? Man. There's a lot of lot of good ones I think there's different ways of looking at it. I think just from a pure like in game like getting up a bunch of you know a guy that is out there a lot. I think you had a lot of good specialty shooters. Guys like Kerr and you know guys like that Legler, etc.. All those kind of all those Kinda guys but I think. I would probably put Larry Bird. Up there, Just from game standpoint I mean that got hit and they kimmy shots. From anywhere. Just incredible. And that's not even talking about his passing his rebounding, his feel was was was and his toughness or other worldly. Mark Mark. You've been more than generous with your time. I cannot tell you how much it means to me. How much your dad meant to me. I you know. Sadly. When he passed, it was right after coaching me in the US. L. With the storm and getting to spend two months on the road to dodge city to Salina Kansas to Florida. Talking basketball and telling old stories with him was was an incredible experience in obviously just it was. We were all Crestfallen when. when when he passed, but he he, he raised a couple incredible boys and rent was always kind to me, and you've been so nice with your time. Please stay as much involved in basketball as possible. Because you guys have so much knowledge to give the world, just don't let the. Don't let the the some of some of the negative ever chased away from this game. Because you got, you got so much to give and I. Really appreciate you joining me. opposite.
