John Solomon and Sebastian Discuss Elon Musk's Twitter Deal
"Day's a great day with John Solomon, but to analyze the breaking news, not just from Durham, new indictments that you are the expert on, but this news of what was it, 37 minutes ago. So to be honest with you, and I don't get everything right, only 99.9% of the time. Is that what rush used to say? God bless you, rush. I didn't think this was going to happen. At least not happen this quickly, accepting the $43 billion deal. Isn't this, you are a media Maven. This is social media, but isn't this really dropping a massive kitty cat amongst the pigeons of social media? Yeah, listen, it's an unusual deal. I mean, listen, at the end of the day, Elon Musk has the money to do whatever he wants with Twitter. He can make it better. He can make it a vanity play. He can make it what it used to be. And we don't know what his intentions are other than. He says he wants to get rid of the censorship mentality there. So I take him at his word because he usually delivers on what he says. So the idea that Twitter had to be bought in order to get it out of censorship is in and of itself stunning it. It shows you how far we've evolved from two years ago when we used to think that free speech was okay. Now we got Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton. Everybody out there saying, we got to send some more. We're going to censor more and Twitter was the main, one of the main efforts, the great censorship. Now it's going to be taken off the table. That's going to have a tremendous blow to liberals who want to keep exercising their censorship. They're going to lose one of the main high profile tools that that was done. Now, we don't know how the market's going to react, right? One of the things I do know is I've been talking to his team today, president Trump has no intention to go back to Twitter. So Trump nation is not going back to Twitter. But we'll see, do liberals leave it because they want more censorship. I don't know yet. Elon Musk is a brilliant businessman. We'll just have to wait and see what he does with the property.

The Bidens Welcome Cat Named Willow to White House
"It. Another story that we're watching today that we really shouldn't be watching, but you know, cats are cute, whatever. And hey, The White House is always looking for a distraction from things like Ukraine. Jill Biden, Jill Biden got a new kitty cat. She's been eyeing this cat apparently since 2020 when it get off on stage with her during a speech. And now it's finally moving into The White House. You know, they've had the problems with dogs, the one that kept fighting people, and then the other one who passed away, of course. There's still, I guess, another dog there, so the cat will have to learn to get along with that dog. But that's maybe a little bit easier than a

"Fantasy and so I think it just was in my unconscious that it just sort of came out and I love writing horses and the idea of writing a dragonfly and shrinking and there's fairies involved and jousting with a B and all kinds of things. These are all the sorts of things I love to read about as a child. So I think somehow fantasy milled it together with nature and my experiences as a child. And of course I go to visit Yosemite all the time. And I really believe the book came out of that love and a fun, because I think one thing that's important for children is when they read is to have fun and have a sense of adventure and magic because I know that's what I love when I read. And so I wanted them to have fun in a sense of magic and an appreciation for the natural world I think. Unconsciously because afterwards I thought about it. And I thought, that's really what I was trying to accomplish. I'm now anticipating reading the book because I want to see jousting with the B are you planning to read this with your class, does your faculty know? Does the faculty know when the book's coming out? I'm just curious what's planned? Yes, I have told my friends and I have an amazing group of colleagues by the way. I want to shout out to them. And I'm all over social media. So I'm not a shy person. And so definitely people know about it. The good your glimpse. Kitty, I ask every teacher to think about what is their walk up song. And the reason I ask this is because I believe just like athletes and movie stars and major public speakers when you walk on stage when you walk into the court, there's walk up music to amp you up. And I believe every T-shirt should have walk up songs playing, even if it's in our head as we walk down the hall and we turn into our classroom to start the day. My father had an Irish pub for a long time and it used to make me sing ballads in it much to my horror. I guess I would have to say I'm having trouble thinking of any particular one song, but I love traditional Irish folk music. Whether it be a really sad song or a very lively one. So I would say some.

"On this episode, we meet kitty donahoe, elementary teacher at Roosevelt elementary school, part of the Santa Monica Malibu, unified school district in Santa Monica, California. Raised in Yosemite valley, kitty moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA where she received her BA and masters in education. She has looped with her classes for about 20 of the 34 years that she has taught. This means that she is able to teach the same group of students for more than one year. While kitty believes that developing student relationships is the key to successful teaching, she also finds support by surrounding herself with educator friends and experts both online and at her school. Every year, Kenny attends summer institute at Columbia University's teacher college reading and writing project. She is also an alumni fellow of the kotzen foundation for the art of teaching. A passionate writer, kitty's debut children's novel, is how to write a dragonfly. Now, here are kitty and Noel. Good morning, kitty, how are you? I'm so excited that we're getting this chance to meet. Good morning, Noel and I'm very excited to be here to my first podcast that I've ever done. I'm can not say enough how excited I am. First of all, you teach in Santa Monica, which is one of my favorite places in the country. I love LA and when I'm out in LA, I love Santa Monica. Did you start your student teaching and you're still in the same district? That is correct in my school is only a few blocks away from the beach. It is so beautiful there and you're right. It's an incredibly amazing place to teach and a beautiful area to live. In the 30 plus years that you've taught, has anything changed within the district have you gotten to just see the community change? I mean, you have that natural beauty of the beach. Definitely. But I can imagine over the decades, just the iconic nature of where you live, but tell us a little bit about teaching in that environment, the community and what you've seen change over the 30 years. Well, one thing I've noticed about my school district is that it's always embraced creativity and innovation and I'm really grateful for that. And what I really like about our district is a lot of us do the teachers college reading and writing project, which is led by Lucy Hawkins. We use that curriculum. And so the really ready to try and embrace very progressive curriculum like that, which I love, something else I love about my school and it's become even more so, although it always was, is that it's very international and I have students who either their parents or even themselves were born in another country. I do have a lot of children who were born in California, but I would say at least half of my class or more than half have parents that were born in another country. And this is not unusual. What I have this school year and it adds a really amazing and deep cultural appreciation in our classroom. And we have been doing a lot of work to bring books to the classroom that reflect all students, so they see themselves in their books we read and they can see other cultures and appreciate that. So I really feel like our district is I know for sure my school really train hard to raise awareness of not just anyone group so that they see themselves in the books and see other people. And I'm really thrilled to see that going on in our. Is there an author? Is there a book that you've discovered that your students are just raving about? I have to say, last year, I did zoom teaching for a year. Unlike maybe some teachers I did not feel alone. I was really lucky. And I had always loved grace Lin, and so I read to my students on Zoom where the mountain meets the moon and I was so transported and so were my students by this beautiful book. And we felt that we were no longer in a zoom classroom, but we were on a journey with a little girl in China and her dragon friend. And the children left her so much, usually I tried to read different authors, which I did in the picture books, but they were begging me to read more graceland. So during the pandemic, I ended up reading all three of her books that are companion pieces to each other. And one of the lines I'm going to prayer phrase it in the book when the sea turned to silver. The grandmother is in the grandmother in the book is a storyteller and she's thrown in prison and her granddaughter goes on a quest to rescue her. And there's somebody else in prison with the grandmother and he finds out that she's a storyteller. And he says, when you are in prison with the storyteller, you are not in prison at all. And it really made me think about the metaphor of how even though so many teachers and children all over the world might have felt really stymied by the fact that we were on Zoom school and we couldn't go and do things that we normally did. The fact that we had stories to transport us made us feel that just like in that beautiful metaphor in her book, we weren't in prison. Our stories let us travel everywhere. So I feel like graceland got myself and my class through Zoom teaching last year. And I'm forever grateful for that. Aw, I'm gonna take that memory to heart and I'm definitely going to unpack that quote for myself and the work that I do. So thank you so much for sharing that. Kitty, do you come from a family of teachers? That is a really good question. I have a very interesting family background. My great grandparents immigrated from Ireland in the late 1800s and they homesteaded in Yosemite National Park before it was a national park. And there were 7 children, and even though they were in the wilderness, they made sure that every single one of them both the men and the women in the family got a college education. There was a real love of education in my family and both of my sisters have done teaching and I'm just not surprised I became a teacher because education and language was always really valued in my family, Noel. I'm now trying to picture family photographs of homesteading in Yosemite park. Do you on the side of education too? Do you have a love of nature and exploring and outdoors just because of where.

You also knew about this very specific news story. Where i guess. He was kicked off a plane involved his citizenship. I guess i mean that is. That's that's quite you play that day of rabi day after and that's about it that's about it. Let's simplify it here. I have a little search engine couple of them. And i typed in cat and this came up and i listened to it and like this is so out there and we reared that i when i'm going to have a reason to even play this in ncaa and it was an nc knee. And that's all i get the joke. He didn't wanna have them back right. But yeah it's very stupid. Play at next. I play 'em random reasonably go here. We go i will. I won't slash attire. But i will at least expel mayor from his front left on so at least season. Now i'm super okay. Cats in the cradle was by harry chapin we figured that out otherwise hit cat. Stevens biggest. I have no idea. I don't know i was just thinking about this. I've never seen someone. Google something like at a party or luncheon a conversation. I've never had something finding out. Something is right and then having the conversation. Go in a good direction. Do you know what i'm saying. I don't think that we need to know that. Have google in our pockets real constantly. Like i can figure this out and then we can be right but i should. I look cat stevens big as it. I look. I'm just curious. You don't have to you know i will also like just i have. Yeah i get what you're saying so to the point that i don't whenever we're in a situation where somebody was like. Hey look that up. I'm never the person that looks at. Oh my gosh. My dad. And i can look it up the fastest. It'd be right. I in and done just watching like i have three pieces in the system here another saturday night. Peace train and wild world. I mean i don't know another saturday night all right. Well i'm gonna. This is weird. There's apparently a cat. Stevens son called the father and son. They rode horses. They like it. Seemed like it fit the mold right and so next thing. I know they're in the backyard and they're they've got their chicks and they're playing with them. They turned a trash can. Lid upside down filled it with water. They were bathing them. Maybe not realizing that that chicks don't breathe under the water. also now. We have some chicks that may be like aren't functioning fully full like we have slight brain damage happening. Then we're like. Hey get the chicks out of the water will. The chicks are like not doing well and and so then. They're like their chickens. They can fly. They start we left. We left to four year olds unattended with baby. Go between their knees. Kolding the chicks and laying them in the air do yeah. Needless to say i look. I'm sorry this is just a story. Yes you'd know better when you do better. I watched the highlights mellon did a really good job highlighting why the play worked and how the blocks were executed and then just he's like an there's one do dick can get to him and he at an angle. But nope not fast and not going to happen..

"And i think it's safe to say he is no longer number four on her depth chart Yeah man i just wish he would have been able to see b-e-n-s-o-n. He had no touchdowns to show for his performance. But once again i think a lot of that had to do with by the time we got down into the red zone. With his efforts he had to have been gassed out and And sober amir. Johnson kind of took over as as a They were rotating in and out with each other and he had a great game. R- amir johnson had a great game with twelve carries for seventy four yards in two touchdowns. i remember dude. I remember during the preseason. I was trying to figure out. If johnson was going to find himself getting more carries since he has been here for three years and hasn't really seen much playing time and i think all of husker nation was wondering If he just find himself in the transfer portal but it seems he seems. But he seems to have fixated himself as one of our top three running backs at this point if not number one And i'm proud of him for that I just wanted to see him. Break huge run for a touchdown. Because i don't think we have seen as to true potential break breakaway speed He was close. He was a couple of times but he's so quick. He just trips himself he gets so he's so fast he runs. He runs faster than his body can even keep up any trips himself up before defenders can so. That's interesting but Yeah dude martinez played a solid game. Has accuracy still has some saas moments but for the most part he makes plays when they like when they count like. What am i trying to say. For the most part he makes plays when they count. I don't know what i was thinking when i wrote that down. But when it matters he gets yes yes It also helps that. He actually had a pocket.

Yeah yeah we we need to move onto. What's been really fun. Which was being completely wrong about saturday. Night's game and i think you've got a few comments a especially since you were there. You should really take the floor and start this off that everybody know what you saw through your point of view. Up there in the stands. I don't know what section you were sitting in Sobe curious to find that out to husker nation. We did it. We pulled off the win as my dad. Points his finger at me as like a you. Go get it Yes i was at the game. I sat in section thirty. Nine ro eighty two seats. Eleven and twelve with my wife got a pretty decent view of the field looking south. Although like i said man those seats up six hundred sections there they're undefeated. They're the best by. I don't care what anybody says about him. I love. I love those seats. Up there I actually like a little bit higher up of view because you really get the angles and the dynamics and the depth perception of what the hell is going on And i just love him but my seats were good. They were good. It was a part of the three game package that the university provided So yeah I just kind of got what i got. And i couldn't throw fit but all right. Well here we go we. Finally we finally completed a game and the scott frost era that i saw play an entire game being efficient in all three phases. Our offense looked unstoppable. Our defense played well within their means and our special teams looked like they were aware of their shortcomings and played safe but disciplined. our offensive. Line is where. I noticed the most improvement in this game which we talked about last week that we weren't even gonna we weren't even gonna say keys devictor..

"Let's move on number one. Alabama routes number twelve ole. Miss forty two to twenty one alabama scoring thirty five points in the first half but being outscored twenty one to seven in. the second half is definitely caused. Kurt dot infra cause for concern for nick sabin company. This alabama team is definitely still top four team in my opinion but they have struggled in the second half against Two big games. Now which would be florida. And ole miss Even though they won by a comfortable margin against ole miss. I don't think this is one of the better bama teams that we've seen in recent history and i know that nick sabin speaks about that Passive aggressively in his press conferences. Where he's constantly going out his team for not playing complete games and making mental mistakes allowing teams to play a little bit harder against them than alabama would like so I guess that's pretty much. It was kind of bummed out. I was kind of hoping it was a a closer game than what it was. But the fact that ole miss was able to score twenty one points in the second half and they were by no means garbage points. Either the two touchdowns that they they got were in the third quarter. And let me actually fact check this really quick oops clicked on the wrong game Boop boop nope just kidding They scored one touchdown in the third quarter and then they scored their final two touchdowns With less than nine minutes left to go in the fourth quarter so they were garbage. They were garbage touchdowns. I stand corrected disregard. Every every opinion i just gave about the game alabama rocks so moving on it. Was those a death building game. By the time the fourth quarter came along. I bet the number twos and threes were in there for bama i. I would not be surprised with that so All right so moving on unranked to and to stanford upsets number three oregon and in overtime battle winning thirty one to twenty four. Like i said in overtime honestly i really just think that oregon is overrated and they definitely underestimated stanford in this one even though they did the ohio state. It's still remains to be shown that ohio state is even a good team this year. oregon is still a top twenty five team in my book. But i don't think top five. And i don't think that they find a way into the top four again in las Teams above them. Continue to fall which This is nowhere near the two thousand seven season where we saw like every number two team in the nation lose like every single week. Dow is just an insult. Your it was. It was the most wild year especially in the bcs era but in recent history. Were just if you had the rank of number two give. Yeah that's also the year that lsu went on to win the national championship with bopha lenient defensive coordinator losses with two losses..

"God okay there. We go That was pretty much. The exact same sound that wisconsin seems to emanate whenever they play football at this point Just a big old gase bag of us so Yeah wisconsin's offense looks bad not only bad but bad against michigan. We'll say formidable defense. They were only able to generate two hundred ten total yards of offense and yeah they just their defense is good but they just weren't able to. They weren't able to make anything happen to guess against michigan and for good reason. I mean we've experienced it as husker nation. When you're defenses carrying your entire team. They can only do that for so long before they get before they get discouraged and they can't sit there and win. Every game so michigan fall are michigan falls. Wisconsin falls to michigan Putting michigan in the top ten. Now i think is what. It is ranked tenth. Something like that. I think is what i saw when i was researching nine. Okay so moving on number seven. This is a great game number. Seven cincinnati defeats number. Nine notre dame twenty four to thirteen this was cincinnati's first game against a top ten regular season opponent in their programs history and they came out on top The real question with this is is cincinnati. The real deal at this point putting themselves in the top five after this week's ranking Release or is notre dame just overrated as they usually are I guess the is a is a rhetorical question. But what do you think that. Do you think notre dame as overrated as they've always been or cincinnati and. Luke fickle really showing their worth to the college football playoff committee at this point. Well i'm not sure. I would call notre dame overrated and there's there's a reason for that number one notre dame being an independent. They tend to schedule a much tougher. ponant in their off out of conference because now they're in the acc right so Cincinnati's no slouch. So they schedule them. God bless him for scheduling them What what that came at home. Didn't cincinnati go in there and beat him or was it in cincinnati. They went in there and beat them after they smoke showed wisconsin the week before. So i'd say that's probably speaks more highly of cincinnati than it speaks badly of notre dame in my opinion luke vehicles a hell of a defensive coach and obviously they played really good defense at day. So i don't think notre dame's overrated. I just think cincinnati's that good. I agree with you i think. Cincinnati looks like a very like a very good potential for being a college football playoff contender. don't know how that will play out if they do. Get into the college football playoff but this would be the first group of five Football team to make it to the college football playoff since its implementation and that alone is a really exciting Possibility for me So.

Inside a New Skunk Works Factory
"Kitty sort of like kind of explain to everybody. This is a bit different. Why hockey's approach is different and tell us a little bit more about the the digital transformation that they're on yeah so it's it's kind of a two-part transformation that they showed us in in actually quite some detail quite elaborate detail during this tour on august tenth at site tin plant. Forty two also known as skunkworks in palmdale man the two parts to it one is is just on the digital side in his new approach digital engineering and digital manufacturing and the second is the sort of physical in standardization of that with infrastructure in the form of a new factory Huge new factory that they've built in erected on the skunkworks. Campus there in palmdale and So we get to see kind of both sides of that you know. Basically the sort of sub projects that this step by step series of sub projects where they proved out this or if digital manufacturing approach which they are now going to apply to projects. That are actually going to start building in this new factory in what they call building six six four eight on on on the campus so that was That was the point of the of the visit and the tour ride can just to set the scene a little. Now we know that the skunkworks really as it's it's modern era occupies. Most people now in palmdale in that corner of plant. Forty two those two large mainly to large hangar buildings that were built the stall factory in the desert that was built for the tunnel. I haven't program back in the late sixties so where in relation to those huge hang this the new facility right so there's building six. Oh one which is the building that we served commonly associated with the skunkworks quirks. Since it moved to palmdale from burbank in the late nineteen eighties to occupy that. Elton levin building.

R. Kelly's NYC Trial Gets Underway
"Of his trial on sexual abuse and racketeering charges. He's pleaded not guilty, but if convicted, he could face decades in prison. Kelly was acquitted on child pornography charges in 2000 and eight but multiple women have accused him of sexual abuse and in 20 and in a 2019 documentary on Lifetime gave new life to those allegations in this clip. Accuser Kitty Jones talks about dating R. Kelly in 2011 and how, as she tells it, he indoctrinated women. He calls it training you. You definitely had to ask to go to the restroom. Stand up. When he walks in the room. You had to ask for your food. NPR's Andrew Lim Bang joins us now for more on that which, by the way, will not be televised. Hi, Andrew. He's got. So it's been 13 years since R. Kelly was last on trial and he was acquitted of child pornography charges. What is the main difference in this case? So, yeah, if you think back to that 2008 trial That was a very narrow scope right. That focused on one tape and one alleged victim, who you know, didn't testify, and the alleged victim's family didn't testify either. Right? So there wasn't a lot to work off of them. From the prosecutor standpoint, here, it's much different. The breath of the case is much larger. The case includes a number of alleged victims, some of whom are expected to actually speak in front of court throughout this trial and it and it goes beyond just like just one thing, right. It covers that trafficking, kidnapping forced labor. Bribery right and and the wreck and the overarching racketeering charge. You know, there's a lot more evidence to use and there's a lot more options for the prosecution to go with and let me ask you about the racketeering. Charge, which seems to be one of

Saskatoon Preschool Plans Cause Controversy
"According to the saskatoon starphoenix a community association. Saskatoon has decided. It's not really cool with a proposed preschool To be owned and operated By the saskatoon travel council in their neighborhood. It's it's part of the tribal council aboriginal headstart program for indigenous children. The idea is to have a first nations based curriculum and that the preschool is expected to accommodate forty kits bracha. What's your understanding of what their beef is with. Having these these kitties plan their hood. Yeah i mean The reasons they're giving public and most of the people who apparently have raised concerns are not willing to come out publicly with their with their reasons for opposing development. One woman was willing to go on camera and she claimed she loves kids. Works with kids. But she thinks it's too dangerous to have them on that property and she gave the example of a kid running out onto the road. Which of course could happen anywhere so it. It seems that some of the concern here is as not being openly stated and certainly there. There's accusations that have gone out that if this were just a any kind of preschool. There wouldn't be the same resistance but because it's a first nations led initiative and an average head start program would be located there that that's actually with generating the the response the negative response to development and having lived in saskatchewan. That totally makes sense to me. I it doesn't surprise me at all that i've wait neighborhood would be resistant to having first nations. People have a business even preschool.
Part 2 Being a Witness, Storytelling, Play, and Art With Ella Reilly
"Then I have another lovely example of, you know, a child very much taking what they need and knowing what they need. And, and I had this little guy in Iraq and this was ages ago, but he, you know, he had come in and was it was pretty obvious that it was kind of an insecure attachment. So a lot of distress with new people and unable to leave home side. You know, very much stuck to her. Glue, you know, wouldn't move with it were moving and so we, we did a lot of work around that move. Eventually got into sections that are owned and in one of our sessions, he walked over to to my books cuz they helped him quite load off the kitty ones. And he picked up the one. What is it called? A little babies? You come across that one. I haven't. I'm writing it down though. I will babies and I will, I hope you ma'am. Let me grab the the order so it's a really beautiful and yeah, it's called our babies and it's by Martin waddle. And it's illustrated by Patrick Ben Branson. Now it's a relatively old book. I got a second-hand version on Amazon but he picked this up off and the story is is basically about one night. These three baby owls. Wake up and Mom has gone. Okay. And they're, they're in the dark and they're they're in a forest and it's nighttime and and the three babies react very differently. But the youngest is is distraught and very worried and very much just cries out for Mom throughout the book. And and then, of course, mom eventually comes back after they try to comfort each other and, and do all sorts of things. Mom comes back. And I just love her reaction cuz she comes back. And she says, what's all the fuss? You know, she could come back and I remember, he picked up this book, and I read it to him. And he kind of looked at me, when I finished, she looked up at me and looked at the back of the little baby. And put his hand over the smallest owl and then just closed the book and put it back on the Shelf. But that will him, you know, he's, he's not baby owl, you know, as soon as this goes upstairs in high circles, the bathroom work goes to work. He's worried the whole time, you know, where's mom wears?
Was There Really a Spy Cat?
"Now. If you're going to use an animal for an important job you need to pick the right animal. I of you'll want an animal. That's trainable and obedient like a dog or a horse. Maybe even a dolphin or a primate basically anything but a domestic cat would work. Just fine in the nineteen sixties this. Cia chose a cat. Unlike projects like m. k. Ultra this one was never subject to congressional hearing but the project called acoustic. Kitty was provable. Real given their stealthy nature. You could do worse than a cat as a spy. The cia seemed willing to overlook most of our feline friends personality traits as they focused on just one curiosity. The idea was that the cat could walk soundlessly through an area where sensitive data was discussed without drawing any undue attention. But how would. The cat convey the information. The cat would be as my mom. Used to describe me wired for sound. The cia was going to burn millions of dollars and years of man labour trying to develop a cyborg kittens spy to bug the soviets and retrieve covert information. That's right we out it the russians though i will say we don't know what the kgb was up to that particular week the story of the spy cat can be pieced together thanks to declassify documents and other sources from the cold war intelligence community. The plan was to surgically implant on microphone in the cat's ear canal and a small radio transmitter at the base of its skull. I would have put it in the tail but mostly for that cool retro-futurism aesthetic working with outside audio equipment contractors. The cia built a three quarter inch long transmitter to embed at the base of the cat skull. Finding a place for the microphone was difficult at first but the ear canal turned out to be prime territory. If not a bit obvious. The antenna was made from fine wire. That ran all along the cats back to its tail hidden in. Its for the batteries. Also gave the techies a little trouble since the cat size limited them to using only the smallest batteries available which restricted the amount of time. The cat would be able to record
