Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott will play on franchise tag of $31.4M
"This was the biggest surprise I think I've said on this show. Eighty million times I thought this was going to get done We were recording this thirty seconds before the franchise tag deadline at like three, fifty, nine, twenty, five, as I'm saying this so you know. Knock on wood that it holds true, but Dak Prescott will officially going kirk cousins route as his long term extension with Dallas cowboys was left. negotiated a long term deal reports indicate that the sides broke off talks as early as march in never really hop back on the wagon the cowboys would like you to know and I wrote back in September that they were offering him more than one hundred million dollars in guarantees. Guarantees which depending on if it's a practical guarantees, are actual monetary guarantees would be an NFL record Dak Prescott would like you to know that they also insisted on an extra year of service for that privilege. It looked like he was. He was searching for more something along the lines of the Russell, Wilson, deal where it was more of a four year more compact thing, and then you can dip again, for your thirty Still Shocked I think he's a top five quarterback I thought Seth Wall Dirty Espn made a good point that if you had to round up, Fi, you know. Two or three quarterbacks that you were sure in five years, we're still going to be top five quarterbacks Dak. Prescott would certainly be one of them so I don't understand why this didn't get done I think it's a gigantic financial mistake. for the cowboys of cost themselves now the franchise tag now becomes the floor. The next franchise tag now becomes the floor for the next negotiating period, and so on and so on. We've seen how this works out. But what's the deal I wonder you know he's? He's one of the most efficient players in the league. He fits well in the offense. You kept the coordinator. Is this Mike McCarthy saying? I WANNA. Get a look at the Sky I. Yeah this one is surprising as well to me. Connor I mean it seemed like they were the last couple of weeks headed toward their kirk cousins situation, but it's still kind of stunning that they took care of their running back before their quarterback like this all dates back to that decision to sign Ezekiel Elliott I instead of taking care of the quarterback, and that and they end up here and now they're in this as you referenced this. Three, year kind of tag situation where the numbers go up, which obviously is the base negotiating point for a long term deal, so you know next year would be. This year's tag is about thirty one million next year tag is like thirty seven and a half million or so, and then they have a choice between the transition and a super high franchise tag the year after that as opposed to the long-term deal. Deal
Will Dak Prescott Sign A Long Term Deal With The Dallas Cowboys?
"Prescott. There is two hours and fifty one minutes left until Dak, Prescott, and Dallas Cowboys can work in extension if not he will be under the franchise tag for the next season earning himself thirty one point four million dollars guaranteed. With the potential chance I, guess up after this season or get franchise tag again. He is now the third quarterback in the history of franchise tags and the NFL to play on the franchise tag. If that happens obviously before after four o'clock drew brees that it what the San Diego chargers. He leaves Don Kirk cousins, does it? What The Washington redskins twice? He leaves town, so history says Dak Prescott will play. This franchise tag may be getting again even but not in Dallas Cowboy long-term. If Your Dad, how do you feel? Do you pumped about thirty one point? Four million dollars guaranteed because if I'm looking at that piece of paper I'm like fucking here we go. Yeah. He's got to be torn. I would imagine I'm sure you're excited. Okay? I'm going to be the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys for another year. MC, thirty one million guaranteed, but he doesn't feel like he has that long term security that he wants from the team. McKay. You think I'm your guy. You're willing to pay thirty one MIL for one year. Why doesn't that don't you think you should give me five six year extension and give me big time money for down the road? That's where he's gotTA. Be Thinking, but so if he doesn't do it today though. He will become a free agent. When the League year starts next March right now after the season they can negotiate. There's another window after the season before free agency to work a long term deal. I actually had that happened after I got franchise tag the day before free agency, we worked a five year deal or four year deal, so I never hit the market, but I was franchise tag the year before, so they could still potentially do that, but I guess I five year deal was offered to Prescott. Numerous Times but DAK wants a four year deal. Cowboys won a five year deal and we've been told by everybody around the cowboys and that knows the organization that that is literally. The only holdup is a one year difference so that's very interesting to me because it feels like there's it's much bigger than just a one year difference there. Thirty three to thirty five million dollars offered with over one hundred million dollars guaranteed, so if you look at that, they know that the cowboys won a five year deal that means three years of that deal was guaranteed. The other two were not locked in for five years as opposed to attack once for four, so everybody's assuming he's going to sign that deal. They're not going to get a deal done, but it's interesting because. He could potentially get thirty seven point four or something next year if he gets franchise tag thirty seven point nine if he gets franchise tag again I, don't see them running into the situation next free agency. I don't. There's no way that the franchise tagging him again they would. You would think they get the deal done I think that they're trying to see if he and Mike McCarthy going to work, I honestly believe that I think there's now granted. They made him one hundred million dollar guarantee already, so maybe I'm wrong in thinking
Patrick Mahomes agrees 10-year deal with Chiefs worth $503m
"One of the huge headlines this week was the decade long contract that Patrick Mahomes lands in Kansas City. Will we see a ripple effect from that? Will that affect a deal for Dak Prescott? ESPN is Jeff Darlington. Will you know what? In some circumstances, I could have seen Mahomes getting a contract and maybe influencing the Doc Prescott deal, But the way it worked out, it actually won't know. I had spoken to some people before the homes got his deal done, And they implied that it Patrick Mahomes is in a little bit of a different air, No matter what. Um, Any quarterback that was coming up on his contract was not going to be able to demand that kind of money. The other situation here is that The home's ended up doing a 10 year deal. The contention between Dak Prescott the Cowboys the deck once less years, then the Cowboys willing TTO. Do they want to get five years? Dad wants to get four years. As a result, I think that the better calm pier is not Patrick Mahomes, but it's still Kirk cousins from a few years ago. Prescott now basically threatening to plan to the franchise tag and saying, If you don't pay me now, my price is only going to go higher. So this week will be very interesting. I still contend they going to get something done by July 15th. We'll have to wait and see those relationships take time, though. Nobody is patients in the NFL's. So what are you hearing about the relationship between deck and his new head coach Mike McCarthy. Look, everybody sees this as being really an ideal relationship. Personality wise, they really do meld quite nicely together, Doc, one of the most likeable one of the most enjoyable people to be around Like McCarthy, also the type of guy you can come in there and really work with Jack to a degree. Actually, I know the Cowboys fans don't want to hear this. But the relationship that Jason Garrett had with Jack I don't think it'll be that much different between these guys. And that actually is a good thing despite the outcome of Jason Garrett success, so Ah, lot of people expect this to be a really good relationship. I could, by the way, seeing This relationship prosper this year to the point where Doc next year winds up if he doesn't sign the deal now signs it later so that he can keep that marriage with McCarthy going
Cowboys' Prescott signs $31M tag, still time for longer deal
"Dak Prescott will make more than thirty one million dollars. Maxine does player that tag making me cowboys, the only with the NFL pay three players at least twenty million dollars per year. If Daphne, the CAP was can't reach a deal by July, teeth, the first quarterback to play a season under the tax, kirk cousins two thousand seventeen, so the man who broke the news himself shefty. We're going to turn to you to start things off. Why now for Dak? Prescott signing his tag tender? I think this is something that he's been thinking about all along field and again. You're in a situation where we're GONNA pandemic. We don't know whether they'll be fans this year. We don't know whether the revenues will be dropping. There are a lot of unanswered questions, and in a time of uncertainty, I think. Dak Prescott is opting for the certainty of thirty one point four million dollars. Dollars that become guaranteed once. He does sign that franchise. Tag John told he will do today and again to have that guaranteed. There's not preclude the two sides from having those contract talks though they're no further along at this point in time, dad continues to want a four year deal. The cowboys wanted to sign a five or longer year deal, and the two sides unable to. To bridge their differences, so if Dak Prescott in the cowboys cannot work out their differences by July, Fifteen Dak would play this year for thirty one point four million dollars, the two sides would be barred from having any talks about any extension until after the season, and maybe they find themselves right back in the same spot next year, and if the salary cap stays flat or Or goes down the cost of Franchising Dak next year would be about thirty seven point seven million dollars, which could be prohibitive if the CAP stays flat or goes down Dax going, take a thirty one point four this year, and then take his chances next year, if and when these two sides cannot get a deal done a long term deal done in the next few

"Fifteen better than the Mark Jackson actor homes a week. Breath is better than The Shawn Watson and Patrick Mahomes in week one the Shawn Watson and Lamar Jackson a week three that. Buffalo Bills acquire Diggs from Vikings for 4 picks
"Radio back to the NFL some big moves Monday as the talking began Tom Brady hasn't made a decision although some of the decisions may be impacting him meanwhile we know Amari Cooper will be staying with Dallas end the bills reportedly acquiring Stefon Diggs of the Vikings for four draft picks earlier on ESPN radio on Freddie inferred Simmons giving up a first fifth sixth for a guy who has been a massive headache in your locker room for the last two years and and during a you know a playoff game wild card game against the saints when I got but ends up winning the game right exactly Kirk cousins goes to Kyle Rudolph instead of digs no no I'm not some of the game winning touchdown time out at third or those of third down conversion and and they converted and digs goes off the field and throws his helmet into the bench do it you got a first down you about winning the game were just by yourself oh wait yeah we we we we know what you're about so I don't get giving up that much to get him outside from the public but from a kid a skill standpoint I do get it I knew they would take that better back to back thousand yard seasons I mean he is a remarkable talent my problem with Gallic Biggs is in the room because when he's not being targeted he's a pain in the rear end I wonder how much of this is the findings wanted out of Minnesota so badly that he was going to act like that now I'm not trying to explain it not condoning it all in but I wonder how much a whatever led to him wanting a break wanting a divorce in the Minnesota Vikings whatever that was it could be Adam Phelan and his emergence or you want to play a Kirk cousins wait a problem Mike Zimmer whatever it was the findings have enough for Minnesota and he did everything possible verbally invent action wise to make sure that they were not going to keep him even early today when Kirk cousins got his extension the findings was not have a leader was not even Catholic high thought he said I guess it's time to get out here tell me about the Minnesota he was determined to get out of whatever led to the break I don't know what it was but he got his wish now the findings you got what you want to handle it because if you don't people gonna say you had a good thing going to Minnesota where they were building my United Phelan and that wasn't good enough for you buffalo reportedly sending four picks to Minnesota a first a fifth or sixth in twenty twenty and a fourth rounder in twenty twenty one while also getting a seventh rounder back this spring from the Vikings Diggs is in the second year of a five year seventy two million

Bills to land WR Diggs in trade with Vikings
"The bills first I see first reported I think from Jay Glazer from NFL I'd fax the bills the Buffalo Bills required wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a trade with the Vikings and you said Adam Schefter has more information as a shifter put out what the other parts the deal A. R. the bills are sending a first round pick a fifth round pick a sixth round pick and twenty twenty one fourth round pick for digs and a twenty twenty seventh round pick she thinks the Texans feel right now yeah that's a ton that's W. said I mean that's the whole that's the whole you're given up for de Andre Hopkins or at least what should have been writing up for de Andre Hopkins yeah he is no where Stefon Diggs being is nowhere near the caliber of receiver that the Andre Hopkins is now no he's not and that's amazing what a great move for the bills huh great move for the bills the Vikings get more and so so now the Vikings become well you you would think better he didn't want to play for the river last year with the injuries they had a tight end out wide receiver that also him not getting the ball and prodding and being upset that he didn't get the ball and now do you see the contract getting paid to Kirk cousins it

NFL explains why there was no pass interference called on play that eliminated Saints
"We're going to. We're going to make football show because that's what people like over the weekend. Everybody who listens to this show presumably watched all of the football games or most of all of the football guess. He missed the playoffs playoff in Hawaii. The yes I missed that one Justin Thomas I saw this morning. I thought it was really nice but I missed it last last night because it came on pretty late We're going to do you because the ratings of the NFL up all across the board because the interest in the NFL is up all across the board and because each of those those games was quite interesting in its own way including terrible terrible. Coaching decisions by both coaches in the Houston Buffalo Game. We're going to talk about out this for an extended period of time in the first segment. Michael Wilbon will join us in second segment. We're GONNA limit news and go right to old guy where we're going to talk about the Golden Globes and the matchups for next week. That's what we're going to the show probably the same length. But I WANNA do it if you don't mind I WANNA do it that way also. WanNa thank Clarendon Tola for Baking Cooke's for Claire Gary Braun Chris Cillizza Michael Kornheiser Nigel. Who has nothing to do except for on the boards because we're not sleep keeps pressing one button? So He's been news cancelled forever now just today. If you don't mind especially the best thing is not gonNa work out just I you know I'm old and I thought why not like Michael said to me last night we were talking about the possibility of of Michael. Are you shaking your head. You don't want me to. Would you go ahead down the fourth wall. People talking about Mike Lees. I won't share this on air dead. Yeah go ahead Michael Says Cillizza how how do we get rid of him. Nicely to the change in the show today. I let's start. Let's start with yesterday's which is going to go backwards. I'm just can start with the Minnesota game because of all the games the end result of that game is the most surprises so like I said on the PTI show on Friday. I'll take Tennessee. Plus Five Live and a half all day and all night doesn't mean I think they're gonNA win. I'm GONNA take those points New Orleans. Losing at home in overtime to Minnesota is stunning drew. BREES did not have a great game he had a very bad fumble in drive. That could have changed in the fourth quarter changed. Everything around. He got picked never gets picked. I mean he did not have a great game. There are three quarterbacks forty years old and up over the weekend and they all lost. We'll get to that but even with brees not having a great game. They tied the game. They got into overtime there at home and they yielded the first drive. That's it see around. see you around Kirk cousins who. I am extraordinarily critical of on a regular basis was very good and kirk cousins to Adam Adam field and had to make up for fumble early. You know but I don't feel did that pass. That wins the game. Now there's a third downplay because what you don't want to do is have to kick a field goal because because you don't want to give New Orleans the ball on the one. Yeah you don't WanNa do that. On the third downplay they go in the left. Hand top corner of the end zone to Kyle Rudolph is about twelve aid aide just like that and by the way quickly give cousins credit. That was a terrible snap. The snap his way to his right he basically knocks it with his right hand. Quickly gathers it because you it's all timing and throws a faith throws the fate and Rudolf reaches up. He's much taller than defender and he gets it in the process of doing that he pushes off. There's no question he pushes off. Does it rise to the level of offensive pass interference for me in a playoff game and I have to give context here. New Orleans has tragically lost in Hoon's replay off games in a row cheated in one cheated by by their own stupidity in another with defensive back and I mean I honestly either call offense a pass. Interference would have so I did not I mean I I watched the play. Did Not in real time necessarily see the wrangle back is in front of your Reina Vision Right. So they call it a touchdown a apparently appropriately to me and then you see the replay and and I did think to myself. Like oh my goodness could they. Could they possibly possibly overturn this. I mean it. And we've all seen their explanation and said there was handed both sides. It didn't rise to level pass interference. I mean I'm sorry by no objective measure to me was that not pass interference and in fact is in fact a couple hours later they called the same thing on hollister tight end from. I'm from Seattle and on much less meaningful circumstance but I mean I just felt like the league. We're getting out of the way this one. I mean there's no way every time it's the UNCANNY situational right. We know this. It's like it's like a Games are raft. Basketball game is reverend different right. The game is rough differently in the last thirty seconds than it it is and that's situationally you cannot. I don't think when I watched it and I watched the replay. He pushed off a little bit. Did it it was. It did not to me anyway. I think I disagree with you. Guys did not to me look agree. Gis I think Rudolph was bigger. The defensive back had his back this business. Being that push back. Chris Locate fully extends. I think it was his left arm. Yeah if he is allowed to do that he catches that ball. A hundred injured time. He cannot be defended. Unless you play. Just there's so many calls they show throughout the game when they every time on a pass Where not every time? Seventy percent of the time on a pattern when they show the slow motion the other guy. The the DB is has his arm wrapped around around the guy's waist or is holding. His arm gets there. I just think it's very subjective. That's fine but I agree with that but I would also agree that the saints should not be shafted million better cost the saints again. Plenty of opportunities it. Certainly when you were watching the game I ah in the flow of it and when tased him hill like in three straight plays a three-stroke they score a touchdown. Now it's twenty seventeen right gary to have that right was twenty. I needed to twenty twenty twenty seven hundred twenty and then they get back they get it back and take some hill like three times. Basically the the one where he runs to the left where it looks like. He's tackled and he spins runs for thirty arts. Well they're definitely going to win then. And then brees fumbled. I mean it was very i. I lost fumbling. The ball get hit. No sort of this is arm gets hit a little bit. I'm sorry I'm busy trying to reconstruct your show on the fly without telling you so allowed back in so so tension is good for the show is for Knuckleballer To to to tie it up. What was the forty nine yard or from lots? They're kicking it through. Yeah man that went about now three feet off the ground and easier kick at the end of the first half a ball Games kick forty something already three but that's an easier kick so that game. Let me say one other thing about that game as someone who was a kirk cousins fan when he was here. I'm not going to criticize Kirk. Cousins played fine. He was he was great in that last. Drive the drive. If they lose the haters are going to look at that stat line that would have been seventeen of twenty nine hundred and ninety yards picked and he didn't do anything bad. Oh he had a good game and the pass was just
Cousins leads Vikings to overtime win over Saints

MNF Recap Packers Vikings; Beastmode returns
"The packers certainly did not blow the doors off the Vikings Aaron Rodgers and company. They you know. They struggled for large portions of this game on offense against a good vikings demon in a very difficult place to play. But I think the story of this game really will be what a massive egg. The Vikings Kings laid an Wessel. Start with you I know you and I have had our disagreements with Kirk cousins and the Vikings were blamed should be assessed when the vikings go wrong and this does not make me the winner that argument you're right and everything he said it was all right. Dan is declared the winner. Now that is that is not true because a lot of people people didn't show up in this game it's certainly not kirk cousins either seven first downs for Minnesota and four quarters the fewest home game by this organization since Nineteen seventy-one Avenue. One Keith. Hands US was a junior at Clarkston high school at that time senior clocks down high. The man's grandfather. Wes speak to it. Come on Kirk cousins. Put the team on your back when they need you. Well like I said on Thursday you and I see more IDA. I'd on this than than it seems like. I don't care what his record is on Monday night football that is immaterial it like somehow nine Monday night games are better than than Sunday games. I might have been true in one thousand nine hundred three three. I don't think that's been true lately. Thirdly we've seen this before he didn't come up. When the redskins needed a late season victory he didn't come up big when the Vikings of two thousand eighteen needed a late season victory and he didn't come up big tonight and like you said the blame can be assessed to a running game? That didn't exist. An offensive line that got worked over by the packers Akers front seven a defense that got some turnovers but also allowed one hundred and fifty yards to Aaron Jones. A coach who punted down thirteen with three and a half minute or four minutes left in the game. There's a lot of blame to go around but I you cannot escape. The Kurt cousins led an offense that had seven first downs. And like you said since one thousand nine hundred seventy. One was the last time that happened in Vikings home game. This is one of the most disappointing performances. Any team is head all
"kirk cousins" Discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
"You're not hearing Dan today. But we're here COURTNEY CRONIN ESPN NFL nation reporter for the Minnesota the Vikings he's Mike Tannenbaum former NFL GM in front office insider now throughout the last few weeks. We've been waiting for the playoff scenarios area to come out figuring out how the field going to be set in the popular topic of conversation is who do you believe in the most. So of course we're GONNA talk about who we believe even the least coming out of week. Sixteen Mike I've got two teams once in the AFC one from the NFC. I would like to call playoff frauds. I don't know if that's too harsh of language anguish figuring this is the NFL. It's hard to win games but teams that I think are one and done and the first one Houston Texans. I watched a very uninspiring during offensive performance. And I really not that confident into Shawn Watson ability to get this done in the first round. They did clinch the AFC AFC south but they have no chance to get a BI so they will be playing wild card weekend. And then I take a look at the Seattle seahawks figuring all the injuries and everything that happened in just a really bizarre loss they had to the Arizona cardinals on Sunday night. So those are my two love to get into that but I I want to hear who do you think would fall in this category starting in the AFC Pittsburgh if they were fortunate enough to get in Courtney. They're really on their fourth quarterback. A lot of people don't realize this. They had a young talented quarterback that they liked a lot in Josh Dobbs who they traded a preseason he was somebody that played really well couple pre-seasons ago in green bay a very talented from the University of Tennessee. So between obviously Rothlisberger being Rudolph Duck Hodges actually got through four them which is really remarkable so it just don't see a lot of upside if they make it and then I agree with you when you look at the NFC Seattle. They're absolutely decimated with injuries. And most nobly elite dwayne Brown. They're very talented left tackle. We saw last night. What it meant when you have to face Chandler Jones and Arizona's defense without a great left tackle let alone multiple running back so I think Seattle is really up against it due to those injuries? So they're bound right now by the five seat which could very easily change. I think it's pretty unique. The situation that we have where in the NFC it feels like all the teams are pretty much set outside of the NFC's because that's the last to be decided but positioning tioning here like there's a lot that could change coming down to week seventeen. So they're heading into a finale against the San Francisco Forty niners where they can win the NFC west and they've got a history of playing really well in these situations especially at home when you take a look at the game that the forty niners are coming off of going down to a field goal against against the rams and just kind of what that sets Seattle up to do in the final week. How do you see that one faring out well you know what's interesting? is you see some reports. Say of of marshawn lynch possibly home back to Seattle. which would be incredible? You know on a lot of levels but I just don't see how he could be game rated help necessarily this week I've had the privilege of working with Brian. Schottenheimer who's the offense coordinator. She I I gotta think Courtney that they'll try to run the ball short in the game not put Russell Wilson in harm's way against a very dominant front seven San Francisco. I would expect a low scoring game. I would think see I will try and make it more of a time of possession game and the funny thing is here like all of these scenarios is the number one seed is still in play like for first Seattle. I mean they could. They need one of two additional things. Take Place I would be a saints loss in week. Seventeen and a one and one finish by the packers. They've got the vikings tonight and then they've got Detroit at home in week seventeen so it doesn't feel all that realistic. The second scenario here the saints lose an Owen to finish by the packers in a to finish by the Vikings. Like when you look at all of this and all that's in play can you. This is not normal. All right where you've got this much parody. When when things are shifting and changing going down into week seventeen I felt like for a while? These games really wouldn't matter for the top seeds in the NFC but it feels like there's still a lot left on the table you know what's really cool. Actually is we do the football frenzy show on Sunday nights and last night during on our show the League announced all the shifting of the Games. And what's great about it literally every game next week except for the Rams Arizona game which by the way I why is a football fanatic find very interesting because cow Murray arguably may be out playing Jar Gov. That's a story for another show but Every game besides that one we'll have playoff implications and I think to your point specifically Courtney as it relates to the NFC. I think certainly New Orleans San Francisco Seattle Battle Green Bay and and we'll see about Minnesota and I draw a line shake him up really any of those teams. You know you would think within reason whatever chance to get to the super bowl as it relates to the NFC east Assuming now that'll be Philadelphia. Look Carson Wentz. His game is as good as anybody else's now again because they're missing so many pieces you would think that's going to catch up to them and like Seattle Missing Dwayne Brown Phil Philadelphia Missing Lane. Johnson again topped here offensive. Tackle Guy. I think that's good mm-hmm at some point and I think if it plays out where let's say. MINNESOTA GOES TO PHILADELPHIA in round one. We could be looking at a road playoff favorite in the first tails. And that's what the one thing I wanNA bring up with you. It's Dan lebatardshow on. ESPN radio the ESPN APP and Sirius. Xm Channel Eighty brought to you by the Home Depot with everything you need eight to do. Projects Smarter Faster and easier. Welcome to today's Home Depot. How do I get more done? The wild thing to me Mike when you look at the NFC is that there could very easily be six seed that is an eleven win or a twelve win team and that would be rather historic because the most wins by sixty eight in the twelve team playoff format format since one thousand nine hundred eleven and that's been done six times previously. The last time was in two thousand fourteen when the eleven and five lions went on the road to face a twelve and four cowboys team in Dallas. Ended it up winning that game. Twenty four twenty teams with eleven wins as a sixty four into all time in the wildcard round. We know how hard it is to get out of wild card weekend in make your way to the Super Bowl but does it feel like with this. NFC just the way that the teams are lined up right now that any of these teams given the the strength from top to bottom one six any of these to any of these sixteenth could win the Super Bowl. I I do because I think it's so interesting. Courtney is look at the a quarterback play of the teams. Were talking about here You could make an argument that any of those six could win the super bowl and I would say of the six Jimmy. Garoppolo is probably the weakest at least on paper but he may have the strongest supporting cast so. I think any of those six teams that you've talked about with the exception of douse me. Replacing Philadelphia could plausibly. Get there and be the representative in Miami so it comes down to for the NFC next week Philadelphia Alpha or the Dallas cowboys. We WanNA know has Jason Garrett lost the locker room..

"Code H, E R D played a decade and a half Super Bowl. Pro bowler Trent Dilfer via the cower global satellite networks joining us. All right, Washington. Kept franchise tagging Kirk cousins Vikings needed a quarterback said we're gonna move off case keenum. We're going to bring in Kirk cousins. I'm watching last night Trent sometimes I think they miss case keenum, what went wrong in this deal. Wrong. I think let the starting point is that obviously close people believe this this time the Vikings overpaid for her cousin. But it's what the market was dictated at the time. Kirk. I'd good timing in the whole process. Therefore, he gets overpaid say twenty thirty percent. But I think there's a bigger issue going on it how when the Vikings were looking at new quarterback upgraded. Poor back in Minnesota miss evaluating her Kirk cousins was we we know Mike Zimmer is an old school defensive center. Coach he's gonna want to run the ball at high volume. He's gonna want us quarterback move the chains on fretful bounce and obviously finished drives in the red zone. That's not who Kirk cousins was in Washington. Kirk cousins is a volume passer. He's a guy that thrived on early downs. Not laid down. He thrived in the middle of games. Dan, two halves at the end of game. He's a guy that is a stat junkie not his fault. But he was. A product of a lot of early down passes schemes that fit his out level allowed him to be really successful. The Vikings miss evaluated that type of player he is. So now, you get stuck in the situation where Zimmer is force is forcing us for Nader all more runs. They're freaking out. Must more must have situations. Where a Tom Brady Rives Aaron Rodgers thrives Philip rivers fried bribes for not work for cousins rights, so it was really the Missa valuation of the Vikings and they overpaid for him. And it's making Kirk look like a shell. What he really is. Whereas if you had a coach understood who he was then you'd be more of a volume pass team, which by the way, they were early. You would highlight your best players on the team feeling dates Rudol, and you would be more sixty five thirty five past run team. But that's not who's ever wants to be. And that's how what cousins does. Well, okay. Let's shift adak the conversation now Jerry wants him. What are we going? Pay him. Where would you go with Dak on that money situation where we got another year to figure it out? I personally internally wanna see him do something special in a playoff run doesn't mean win the Super Bowl but carry a little bit more water for his team. Like you did in the fourth quarter the other day against the eagles where he kinda puts the team on his shoulders and big situations and big moments, especially in January. I think that's one way he can earn a big contract. I still think you need to be having conversations with Zajac right now saying if you think you're going to break the Bank, you're not going to we'll start looking into the drought. We'll start looking at different option because we're not going to do it say the Vikings did. But I think calling I think this is something you can build off of your the rest of the season. It's being the next season builds on a bigger issue. And that's where the salary cap is really flawed when it comes to quarterback in this next collective bargaining agreement. The players have to fight take quarterback salary out of the standard. Salary cap and create its own quarterback salary cap. This players are getting hurt from it. Because there's a lot of players on the Cowboys that if they pay back they're not gonna be able to pay down, and it seems to to easy excuse me. Just a separate the quarterback out of the salary cap, but a separate salary cap on that position. So that the rest of the fifty three min fifty two men on the roster can be rewarded as they should. Because right now when you overpay for quarterback, you're backing four to six other guys should be getting rewarded for their efforts? And they're really not. I swear to God I had this conversation with the buddy two nights ago, the same conversation is that if you separated the quarterback, I don't like franchise tags either for quarterback that traps them. Okay. Aaron Rodgers you run the organization tomorrow what kind of coach do you give him?.

"He can't also be asked to go play defense and rush the passer or stop them to you that as long as outgoing scoring pointing, Chris, if you replace Nick foles with Kirk cousins and the Super Bowl last year, do the eagles win up. Yeah, probably. So you think Kirk cousins is going out on scoring on every single drive, like Nick foles. Can you think in in a normal game, Nick foles is going out and scoring on every single Dr. That's civic sill. Says you're saying, so you're saying, what can your your your criteria here is Ken, Kirk Kirby, absolutely. Perfect. Place, Kirk cousins in that situation. Do you think the Vikings beat the eagles last year in the playoffs of her cousins is the quarterback and knock case keenum. I don't know about that, but that game was just such a such a rolling over by the eagles. I think that the Vikings were kind of spent from that game prior that big saints game, and it was tough to get back up. But look, I don't understand the criteria. You're saying, if you place foles with cousins, does do the eagles win the game, but by what you're saying, if if the eagles were placed if place. So if the eagles replaced foles with Aaron Rodgers to they win the Super Bowl. If Aaron Rodgers has to be one hundred percent perfect new, probably not. Here's my point. You keep bringing up the fact that your defense, you can't rely on your defense. You can't do quarterbacks, not responsible for that, that that means you have to go out and do your job and continue to score. That's my point with the full Super Bowl thing. Kirk, you can blame Kirk cousins, defense in Washington, and all you want, feel free for not winning games, but the proof is in the pudding like it's not just on the defense for you to win. You have to continue to put up, especially in today's NFL where scores continue to escalate higher and higher. You have to go out and score every single time you have the ball if you have that opportunity. I don't think her cousins is a guy. Listen. If you said you have one game, one game, you can pick any quarterback that you want the NFL I, there's at least five quarterbacks I'd choose before. I chose Kirk cousins. So a lot of that would have to be style. Of play of the defense and all and surrounding talent. But like I said, the only three, I'm sure I'm taking our Carson Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady after that, you know, there's a lot of guys in the conversation, but I think cousins lease it. I got it. I think it's so unfair that your criteria is go score every single time because nobody can go score every single time and you talk about the proof being in the pudding. By the way, we're getting to a five minute. Mark. Here we'll talk. We've got Got to to cut cut it. it proof being in the pudding. Guess the proof is in the pudding. Washington steam was bad because their front office was incompetent and that same front office, let Kirk cousins go in favor of out Smith the end. We'll take a pool. Take a quick break guys. Are you looking to last a little.
"kirk cousins" Discussed on You're Wrong... And Here's Why
"I didn't hear the horn. Use it. Okay. Do you want to know why Kirk cousins isn't talked about Kris, two hundred? Why? Nobody hypes him up. It is nothing to do with college. He played in the big ten. He certainly got talked about. He may be wasn't considered a high prospect, but the reason why nobody talks about Kirk cousins, it's because the guy's not a winner. He's played in one playoff game as a starter, and it was a thirty five to eighteen shellacking at the hand of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Kirk cousins, chrome rear record his career record as a starter twenty eight, thirty two and two. That's why no one talks about him. Kirk cousins can put up all the numbers that he wants. The reason why he's not considered a top five quarterback is because of that and that alone, you see it all the times with guys. You see it all the time guys put up numbers left and right every single Sunday and no one cares about them. They don't consider them good quarterbacks Cam Newton, despite maybe his passing yards or anywhere near. The numbers of some of these other guys, but the way that guy plays the quarterback position in the dynamics that he has behind it, and the fact that he's had success in going to a Super Bowl also helps. But that guy doesn't get any recognition as being a top five quarterback. And he's in my opinion, a much more much more vital piece. His team than Kirk cousins is Kirk cousins is filling in for case keenum who excelled with the Minnesota Vikings last year. Let's check in on case keenum from lash from this year with the Denver Broncos they lost by seven hundred to the New York Jets yesterday, Kirk cousins is in the perfect situation right now with a ton of weapons around him when he was in Washington and he didn't have anywhere near those weapons. He showed what kind of quarterback he was, and it was the fact that he couldn't win. There proves that in the overall grand scheme of things, it's got, isn't a top five quarterback and I know you you're going to ask, who is it? Then Greg, who is it? Number one in my is still, and it's not going to be until he retires as Tom. Brady, then I hate Tom Brady, plain and simple. Okay. I'm gonna give you some names because I think your argument is ridiculous. Okay. Jill for Trent Dilfer Doug Williams, Brad Johnson, Jim Plunkett, Jeff, Hostetler, Jim McMahon. You know what these guys have in common Gregory, they've all won Super Bowls football more than any other sport is a game where every player matters. Not just the quarterback. The quarterbacks job is to put up numbers and be productive. I don't think we can argue the cousins has done that. And I'm confident in my argument that he's a top five quarterback in the NFL. I think the case can be made simply by going through the list. Look, I agree with you, Tom Brady's better than than Kirk cousins. I think there's two other quarterbacks in this league who are clearly better than those are Rogers and Carson Wentz. After that, there's a group of quarterbacks that includes Jared Goff and drew Brees and Rothlisberger. Rivers luck Wilson, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, your guy Cam Newton, but it's my contention that if you swap cousins on any of those teams, he would be at least if not more productive than the incumbent Goth. He's been sensational this year, but given a style of play, you've really not think that the incredibly accurate cousins would be any less productive running that Rams offense. I know I don't ask for drew Brees. By the way, congratulations to Mr. breeze who just set all time NFL record for the most passing yards in NFL history today. Cousins is basically freeze like three or four years ago. Rothlisberger has been wildly inconsistent, and he's been difficult off the field. Rivers is taken a step back. This year luck is a walking injury risk Wilson. He's interesting, but I do believe the cousins would be even better running that Seattle offense as for your guy, Cam Newton. Yes, there are. There are peaks of incredibly productive, both individually and as a team, but his style of quarterbacking makes it so incredibly difficult to build a team around and the guy she's such a diva..

"We're back now. We're going to talk NFL football. We're gonna talk about Kirk cousins. I'm gonna tell you why. I believe Kirk cousins is top five quarterback in the NFL today. We're going to put two minutes on the clock. Simply put Kirk cousins was has been seemingly will always be criminally underrated by the national media. I have some thoughts why this is, but it's perplexing this season. The guy is second in the NFL in passing yards while being just three touchdowns behind Patrick Mahomes for the league lead. I think Mahomes has fourteen touchdowns. Cousins is also only thrown to intercept means. The guy is scary, accurate, scary productive. But for some reason, no one talks about him last year. He was seventh in the NFL and passing yards, and he threw twenty seven touchdowns the year before that third in the NFL passing yards through twenty five touchdowns. Does he get talked about? No. The reason he's not being considered top quarterback in the NFL is in my mind quite simple. He wasn't hyped coming out of college and it just matters more than it should and he hasn't played on high profile teams before this season. You know for the people who get it, it's obvious how good he is. That's a reason that he got the first fully guaranteed contract in NFL history. Washington knew how good he was when they use their third pick. And that's one thousand twelve draft on Kirk cousins is quarterback from Michigan state the same year that they used the number two overall pick to select Robert Griffin. The third, he so good that they had guys pounding the table to select the second quarterback after they use the number two pick traded up to get Griffin. Cousins isn't flashy guys, just productive. His games are new, all his, his games, nuanced, but the skills exceptional..

"About because this is a football decision this is a we have this sort of title window how can we maximize it the minnesota vikings are going to be the best version of themselves in twenty eighteen because kirk cousins is a quarterback there is no other outcome from this off season that could make them a better football team for their sixteen games next next fold than this choice but it does have ramifications beyond that by pain kirk cousins twenty eight million dollars next year you put yourself in a precarious position i think they're going to have about thirty five or so million in cap space without any other moves now that cousins is contracts on the books we've talked about this before bar digs kendricks hunter all free agents you're not able to bring all those guys back most like considering the couchbase you are immediately and without question going to hurt other areas of your ostra by giving up his contract but is that worth the one single year when you can be the best possible football team that you can be and that is i think the gamble at the vikings are making okay i don't know what the right answer is there i don't know if kirk cousins is ten million dollars a year better than case keenum i don't i i my gut is that maybe he's not yeah just an vacuum but i think when you're trying to just milk everything you can out of your chance to win a championship may be that small gap is that important.
