The Patriots Quarterback Carousel
"To talk with the quarterback Carousel though. The latest Derek card may be on the trading block maybe on the market. Maybe not on the market. But what are your feelings? I think we're both in agreement that the starting price of two first-round picks is absolutely insane, but just in terms of him as a player. Where are you on Derek Carr? Yeah. I I think that all just start first with the overarching, you know, I think you're going to see a lot of teams put borderline quarterbacks on the market right now. I think you'll see what Jimmy Garoppolo I think you might see with Kirk Cousins those sorts of situations. It's just because teams saw the return for Matthew Stafford and they're thinking when I want some of that right? It's like what's going on in stock market gets hot. So everybody wants in on it. I don't know how like not every quarterback that gets put on the trade block in the next month is going to be traded and I think cars the first of a handful so I'm not going to like over-hyped that as four cars a player. I mean a nice piece, you know, I I'm not overly excited. You're right. The two first-round picks is too much where I look at this in relation to the Patriots we talked about this on Tuesday is 4 a.m. To get a guy like Jimmy Garoppolo there has to be a trickle-down effect, right? So maybe San Francisco likes car and then they get car and then should be dropping becomes available something like that, but I'm not you know going to do jumping jacks and say the offseason is saved because the Raiders are thinking about trading car, right and I think the biggest thing with these asking price is is that it's nice to ask for two first-round picks your job. Actually get two first-round picks for Derek Carr and even old PlayStation. I can ask you for $500 for it doesn't mean it's going to happen. Right and the other days you want to I mean the offer stands but no no, I'm good. But then the other thing is is that you have a trickle-down effect that you mentioned of the Raiders are not out there actively seeking a trade for Derrick Car unless they can upgrade at the quarterback position themselves. So maybe they feel and I think the report that was out there was that they were going to try to take whatever they get from Derek Carr and package their own pics together to make a move for Deshaun Watson, but if they don't feel like that other shoe was going to drop that you don't just trade Derrick Cartwright. Nothing left, you know with leave yourself empty-handed and now they do but actually it's interesting. You said that cuz you're a big Marcus Mariota guy. I never thought he obviously had his moments. You don't think they trade Derrick car for you know, if you can get to First for Derek Carr if you think Mariota is only a marginal decrease in those two first-round picks will help you out. More than that gap between card Mariota like you don't think they might look to just do that. I wouldn't but you being as high as Mariota on as high on Marietta as you are I'm a little interested that you're not going to flirt with that possibility as well. I would if you have a team comes in and offers the Raiders a Godfather offer for Derek Carr and they do offer multiple first or multiple Hai pics then maybe you could talk yourself in terms of replacing car and like you said, it's not that big of a drop off from one to the other and and you can have that conversation. But I think with Mariota in card me to me, it looks a lot like what Mario dealt with with Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee a few years ago where Mariota because of his pedigree because of his history with the club was the starter to start the season. It didn't go. Well they make the switch to Red Hill and the following offseason is when they decide to move on from Marcus Mariota, so I actually feel like the Raiders and and the Patriots, you know as a domino effect, or maybe one year too early on this dead. Our conversation may be we're having this conversation next to offseason when Marcus Mariota unseats Derek Carr has the starter and if if not, when if okay fair enough. Marcus Mariota unseat Sarah car,
Thirty-two NFL Awards
"Every week on this podcast given out. Nfl awards app. The week is over. This could be a bit ambitious but thirty two teams thirty two awards. Let's go we're gonna call this one the best six and ten team of all time award but the washington football team stepped up so now he renamed it already way to change the word on the fly in the moment with breaking news the best seven and nine team of all time award the washington football team now can we say that definitively it may be too early to say last year tampa atlanta both went seventy nine. Those teams didn't even make the playoffs so the early lean is that washington could be the great one of all time. But we don't know yet. Speaking of that game. The clockwork orange award goes to the new york giants because they had to watch i at one point. This season banned myself from nfc east games. I said i wouldn't watch any until the teams are over five hundred. I watch step drop sixty two instead of being super locked into washington philadelphia. And i don't feel like i miss much. I know there's a lot of controversy would get that. Maybe a little bit later but imagine having your eyeballs taped open like clockwork orange and being a member of the giants having to watch that game. Nate sub-field now. Look we can sit here and be upset about it but you could have gone seven nine and got into the playoffs. So how sorry. Can you really feel for the giants the skeletons on the zahara award. Yes some of these awards. We referenced. his some won't get boy when you do get a weird one. You're gonna go man. I get that all right. That award goes to the. Las vegas raiders. Because at the beginning it looked promising. Nice little boat trip trade. Some spices await were crashing into rocks. Not a big deal here. Some locals gathering on the beach here to help nope now. We're marching to our own death in africa so it was very pro gruden. Hey maybe this gruden guy knows what he's doing and then you're like wait. Does this actually suck again. The drought continues. The raiders have not won a playoff game. Since two thousand to the notre dame award that goes to the green bay packers great record high green. Bay's really good. They're thirteen three though the one seat but nobody outside of their own fan base is rooting for this team. Not only because of the history of hatred. Although i imagine there's way more anti notre dame stuff out there than it is anti green bay but no one trusts you. Yes you're thirteen and three but that's three. Nfc conference championship game losses in the six seasons. A couple down years. They've turned this thing around. They are the one seed. But everybody's kind of overt already before. It's even started the parent's weekend award that goes to the new orleans saints. You guys know the deal parents weekend. There's a dad he wants to stay out with you guys. And he's older he's a little beat up and you're like i don't know like we're going to go out. We can't say no. We respect him too much. It doesn't look great. Doesn't make a ton of sense on paper there's some bad stats in there. But you have to let them do it. You have to let them try and the thing is is you and your buddies like there's no way does this is going to end well. The iceman award that goes to the dallas cowboys man and dangerous. What is with this jolt. A don't let us get hot. This is insanity when this was part of the story lines throughout the cowboys broadcast. Yes you on three in a row. Cincinnati san francisco and philadelphia yay. Then you lost the giants at home. You came in eleventh in the nfc but if you were to get in look out. This is now. It's our time you were eleventh in your own conference dangerous. You had sixteen games to prove that you're only dangerous to your fan. Base is or perhaps the understanding of what the word danger beans the g. league award san francisco forty niners. They had twenty eight players. At one point on i r or another injury cova list which was most in the league. They use the most. I are slots. They lost the most games to injury in the nfl. And even with losing record my coach. kyle shanahan. i can't believe how competitive they were. All season law the dabble award. That goes to kirk cousins in the vikings bike. He's gonna win. Nah no one really cares are one in five star people already over this team so their disappointing season was so disappointing so early that it was just all of a sudden just completely off the radar even though they turn some things around there a bit in the middle of the season with dalvin cook but watching cousins dance reminded me of daboh announcing his tiktok account hickory vickery dot mouse ran up the clock coast. Sweeney's got that drill and now he's on tiktok.
Can We Finally Trust Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns?
"Kansas city with six consecutive playoff berth. Clinching the spot with what was narrow win over denver mahomes yet another three hundred yard passing game with no turnovers elsewhere. Kirk cousins kept the vikings in the playoff hunt. Three touchdowns helped erase a double digit deficit before dan. Bailey kicked a game. Winning field goal in overtime. Vikings back to five hundred and then is mitchell trubisky and the bears ten point lead late in the fourth quarter fumble leading to a pair of lines touchdowns and the bears lose again their sixth straight defeat after starting the season five and one and that was the conversation. That was focused on quarterbacks rex. Where your mind goes because the bears and that defense had a ten point lead in the fourth quarter. What yeah no. If you're the real deal then that game's over regardless of stupid play by the quarterback trubisky and and the play call the questionable. Play call at that situation. If you're that team the grind clark and i have been on those teams games overdue. It's flat out over if we're gonna show you how good we are. How great we are i instead that team right. There gave up four hundred fifty yards to the detroit lions. Yeah you really that good forget about you wanted your own i did. You never liked the eighty five bears. Well guess what you can't hold their jockstrap. And i'm sick and tired saying that you're good defense. Most talented deep dang danger. Don't play that. Yeah i see look. This is a team that a few weeks ago. I remember we were talking about the defense looking side. I'd the court the offense because they're struggling so much and again. They're in position to win the game. I'm getting so sick and tired of you. Guys talking out of both sides of your mouth. What do we always say. We wanna team to be together. We want total chemistry. We want complimentary cal not a bears fan not embarrassed land complimentary football. It sucked to what we want. Is it this. Why matt nagy was was brought to chicago so to offense defense would be on the same level you have it and get it and you wanna be right. This is not what it used to be. It's not what it even. Starting the season as being is not what we saw on thursday night against the tampa bay buccaneers and the question was asked early on in the season. It does this eventually wear on. The chicago bears defense. That's an excuse because of the field. It's those eleven players that are coach to play defense at at our coach to stop people. And if you to you had a perfect chance to get your team
Philip Rivers and Kirk Cousins' Season Outlook
"This has become a big part of the season. The the quarterback lawyers out there so it became a topic that i talked about on monday because of the romo defending brady and basically criticizing arians but it seems like a lot of the athletes. Hate the Law offices of romo and collins worth all of these guys that seem to protect the quarterback but then it was another level for the monday night. Game with wentz where people were so mad. Anytime brian greasy would be like well actually was a screen and they missed the block here and it was on again and it looks a lot of guys i used to work with. Espn like name is. They know they are. They got so mad about the. The defense of any of these. Quarterbacks is fair when it comes to the stuff you're at home your home just like the rest of us are watching these games. They give me a break of the tampa thing and then wentz. Yeah i mean. I don't think either quarterbacks in a good situation right now when you look at those two guys. But i also think there's some i mean to to absolve either. One of them of blame is crazy to me. Neither one of our plan well So that to me. It's kind of more a little bit more nuance there. I don't think either one of them are in the right system. That fits what they do right now and the other side of it as well. But that's where you find yourself. Your job is to execute with the situation. You find yourself in. i think carson's little carson's is is is a longer story About everything that's going on there with him to me. He looks like somebody who's kind of just completely lost his confidence you know. See what a guy it out in hoops curious around like in football. We talk about guys to start guiding the ball right. They don't they don't have any confidence or trust and you're really trying to guide the ball and then you end up with some really bad messes. I don't know if a shooter go through a slump. What what that looks like. But that's what it looks like with carson. There's nothing like a quarterback who's lost confidence it really. I think eventually like if you're a decent shooter not just going to not be able to shoot for year. Because you're bummed out. I mean paul george in the bubble so whatever But i don't know what the excuse was another playoff games. I think the biggest thing that you'll notice basketball is a guy who was a guy coming back from some kind of injury and he's good to go it's not like he doesn't trust his knee. And you played a lot of basketball. He's just stuff around the rim. he's inbetween decisions. Sometimes you just forget to drive usually remember used to drive past guys but eventually all that stuff goes away. I don't think there's anything as long lasting in basketball is there is is. The quarterback is completely lost. And then you'll see guys who lose so much confidence they start changing the way they've played like that's one of the crazy things about the cousin story. Is that cousins. Was somebody who took no chances to kind of make his way into the game. And then he had some decent statistical seasons and then he actually started. I think chuck in the ball a lot last year. Know what he actually came around. And then you know. He has dug game after they beat the saints. Which wasn't surprising to me. And then the beginning of this year. He was chuckling at all over the place and they were terrible for complete like changed who they became as a team with cook and yet cousins was great. Cousins will have these moments where he's like two completely different guys which is my biggest with ever putting him up in higher group with with some other people have them up there but cousins to me like in some areas. There's some similarities to rivers. And that i always felt like with rivers man if if if he hits that that hot stretch for him when he get. The postseason like flat goes agree. Example flack over sixteen seventeen games in any season his career. Like you're not. You're not going to buy that as a change of quarterback but he always had that ceiling for manufacturing it for three or four weeks. He's capable of doing that in off they go. I've always kinda put rivers in that category. That if he could get in the tournament and just had to have one of those hot streaks he could carry them and cousins is kind of like the the next version of that were I don't trust kirk over sixteen games but in a three or four game stretch. If you've got the good version kirk cousins like that's that's dangerous. He could actually do something. I always like rivers way more cousins. I wouldn't say this version of rivers but you know he's more accomplished definitely more -ccomplish but i'm just still saying that that rivers his hot stretches lasted longer than any of kirks hot stretches. But i've seen rivers put together three unbelievable games and then just added nowhere. You're like dude what what happened. Like just a clunker can happen so that that to me is where i find a little bit of the similarity there.

The debate is corn olympic sport because the par core society is actually protesting it and asking the ioc not to allow parker into the olympics. Why you might ask. Because there has been a hostile takeover of the sport from the international gymnastics federation so gymnastics is trying to make park or a gymnastics sport in the olympics gymnastics event whereas traditional trad. There's an old trojan at. There's like an old ad campaign. Where's that concept. Sex olympics are really yak. When you're like in middle school in early googling stuff on youtube try and see boobs. That's what comes up on youtube. That's okay you're actually think hanging positive. I think we figured out the podium. I think it's brazil and gold and then probably italy silver and then france bronze here in france hank guys on chicks sub guys especially dog dad of the century. Pf and need help on this one. "Rob parker in college just decided just create a rumor that you beat up the michigan state hockey team and then came out. And you're like no. I was at church with my dad. Why didn't you just say yeah. I did fought them up. Like i beat up the entire michigan state hockey team so why is probably the biggest shirts that wasn't able to make it to the hockey house for the party. I i think i think what happened. Was it one of the people involved in the fight. Was a part-time quarterback on team wasn't a starter in so i'm sure through rumors. They just assumed it must have been the backup. That's kerr it was but it was funny because my teammates thought it was so funny. I mean you guys are already getting to know me. Probably not probably not gonna be kirk as out the best. Guess if you're guessing players in the team and so my teammates who go to class in a sophomore in college girl. We'll look at them. And say i keep leave. Kirkby that guy off yeah laughing you gotta be kidding me at one point They were going to sell t-shirts on campus. It said kirk cousins. Or i party with kirk cousins on the back. I was gonna say late nights hockey fights. Oh rob parker just totally made it up. So it's does. I would let that just. I'd be like yeah. That sounds vaguely familiar. Rob will eat up the entire michigan state hawk. If you remember that was that was the same roster. Had brian hoyer nick foles on her so i guess it was probably brian hoyer if we're looking at between those three guys. Can you confirm that those names either. But yes crazy. I loaded. Our quarterback room was back then. Drew standard just graduated when thirteen year. Pro career than. Brian is in your twelve now. has been a super bowl. Mvp and and so it was a loaded room and You guys must have won several national championships and big ten championships. Roster i got one last thing then we can let you go. This is probably my favorite kirk cousins. Tweet of all time you said. In my opinion the best movies do three things. Tickle your funny bone tug on your heartstrings. blow your mind agreed. Do you stand by that. I think that they do great movies. Also make you think and what movie was out about so my favorite movies of all time. Are the ocean series okay. I kind of like how. They're some intrigue or mystery but it's really And they don't talk on the heartstrings. As much as they could to fit that criteria but those those are my favorite movies. And then i just think anytime a movie kind of leaves you you know laughing and crying and kinda makes you think too. I mean i don't how you beat that. So that's my criteria i'm sticking with. It probably could awarded a little better than i did in that tweet answer. Usually you're going to be you. This is actually. I'm going to give you a ton of credit here. This is probably the most like loaded rapid fire questions we've ever had for someone we've interviewed because we have so much kirk cousins history and you you and given you know much so much over so many years i mean i'll say the quote again if i can't macher cousins i also wanna die. So yeah you have you have you've given us a great service and we thank you for that really do anytime anytime i can be your doormat. I'm happy. I'm an easy target. And by that i hate you making me not hate. You don't do. This is the worst way that this interview could have gone. I would rather. I would have rather you come on here and you just call me an asshole you cut off early and you're like i'll go so my cereal somewhere else. I don't need you clowns. But instead now i kind of like you. Which sucks yeah. We'll sending invoices though when we start bashing you again and then you can tell us to cut it out for that happens. "In cities with the largest megachurches your ten and fifteen as a starter as opposed to thirty one and twenty five in cities without the megachurches. So do you think that's a problem. Do you go do sip too much. Communion do you like. Do you get exhausted. Spiritually for spending too much time on the road in these churches. Before you play games you know. I like that stat. That talk about having a discerning. That's his stat. You could really draw something from Yeah you know the mega church abusive which cities are considered a happen which cities art maybe with that information. I'll be able to try right. That this data. Yeah it was like it was charlotte chicago dallas and then put a lot of those games. Where the prime time games that people have given you grief over the years so there's like a little bit of there's some overlap between primetime games. Do you hear that by the way. Do you hear the prime time stats like. Does that ever. Is there anything different or is it. Just you know it. It hasn't worked out sometimes and it happens during prime time. Yeah i mean you get asked the question. So that's when you hear it is when they ask you. But i think it's more of just a you know didn't get the win and you know it's it's a status which was different but it is what it is and hopefully going forward. You know we can start to win those games consistently and start to kind of change that narrative. I think you actually are trending in the right direction. Because you're obviously you beat the bears of prime time this year. The seahawks game last year. I wanna say were earn this year. Where you guys. That wasn't like on kirk cousins. That was just russell wilson at the end So i think it's trending trending in the right direction about this. Vikings team though you guys had a tough start Do does it feel like we can make a push for the playoffs. And that was actually great. We're taping this on monday. A great game. Winning drive against the panthers on sunday. But how's it feel knowing like you guys can't really lose any more games and you got to keep the momentum going forward. Yeah we don't have a lot of room for air. I mean we started one in five so even if you know you have a great month november. You're only back to around even five hundred yet so we have five games left. You know we're going to have to play our best football in these last five but it's nice to be in the hunt because when we were one in five going into our by week and we weren't in the hunt and so it's exciting to know that we're gonna be playing meaningful football in december but we are gonna have to play our best football to when when you played the cowboys not not to like knock you but i lost a chevy silverado on that game You you guys lost game. The cowboys did you know. Could you feel playing that game. That mike mccarthy had smashed watermelon the night before in a pre-game meeting with his team. You know what. I didn't know that until you just told me but i did think. They played with a lot of energy. I thought it was just because they were coming off a bye we fragile but maybe it was. The water was smash watermelons it absolutely was. You should see you. Someone should have figured that out and told you guys before hand be like hey listen. They smashed watermelon last night. We're going to get their best effort. That's the kind of scouting report. That would have made a huge difference. I i'm disappointed that are scouts. Didn't get that information back to us. Before kick-off your coach. Mike zimmer is an all time football guy we loves them we got to meet him just real briefly more than anything. We just saw his truck in the parking lot which filled to the brim with with redman pouches in the center console. He's a big football guy. What does he do. That's kind of along those lines of a pre game meeting that has any needs to get you guys fired up. Has he ever like pulled out a proper doing anything crazy. Gets you guys amped up his style. I don't think he's about that. The ad drinks. I think he's about ball and so he's a man of few words. It's about just a few words. You know let you play. Do the talking. But he wants you to be physically wants to run the ball and impose your will on people and You feel that from you know. I think you guys know him. You know he's a no nonsense guy you know if you read man in your center console you probably are no nonsense guy. So that's who he is. I've always said the theory. That with mike zimmer. He doesn't really like any quarterback and so as quarterbacks always wanna play hard to kind of gain his approval because if it were up to him he just play defense the entire game and that's what he loves. Do you feel that same way. That it's like i really need to show out to make zimmer appreciate when i'm able to do because i know he just hates my position you know. I've never heard it put that way. But there's no doubt that you know you. Wanna keep code zimmer happy and he's a defensive coach so it's gonna be hard to keep him happy but It also doesn't help you because one of the best ways to keep a defensive minded coach. Happy he's just protecting the football you know. Just don't screw it up and so earlier. In the year. I was leading the league interceptions. That's not where you want to be so thankfully you know the last few weeks we've been a little bit better starting to get on the right track but You know hopefully. I can get back in good graces. This is a weird one but we have a theory that you look shorter in purple. Have you noticed that when you're in your all purple. You look shorter. Well i'll tell you what guys. Cousins, Vikings overcome Patterson return, beat Chicago Bears 19-13
"Of the NFL, wrapping up Monday a pair of teams Headed in opposite directions. Bears came out of the blocks quickly this season but have fallen since the Vikings rebounding since their one in five start, Vikings and Bears. Minnesota started with the ball ultimately would fumble away on the game's opening drive. Chicago, though, gives it back two plays later, second in 10, full shotgun steps up in the pocket pumps. Fires intercepted it picked up by the hit man. It was bobbled, but Harrison Smith has turned over the Chicago Bears. It's his third interception this season. 26 of his career. And Harry says, Take that review and I'm gonna bring it right back. Vikings get the ball right back, and they wind up converting it into points. It's 33 cousin. It was a one handed left handed grab and the Vikings have taken us six sirrah lead. Okay. Field goal of the night off that turnover, So it was a 76 game at the half Bears come out of halftime. And they received the second half kick. Dan Bailey puts it in the air. Cordell Patterson waiting for a big return five yards deep out of the end zone, trying to run it out down the sideline. Patterson has seven for his career looking Freddy down the sideline throws up the deuces for the touchdown. Simply what the Bears needed. 105 yard kick return for Cordero Patterson and with it, he ties for the most in NFL history. Vikings would get a couple of field goals in the third. Cook's 4 TDs help Vikings knock off Packers 28-22
"The Vikings surprise the Packers in Green Bay twenty eight twenty two as Dalvin cook became the first Minnesota players since Ahmad Rashad nineteen seventy nine to score four touchdowns in a single game cook racked up two hundred twenty six yards from scrimmage and reach the end zone on each of the Vikings first four possessions he was so productive Vikings quarterback Kirk cousins attempted just fourteen passes for one hundred sixty yards one of those throws was a fifty yard scoring toss from cousins to cook putting the Vikings they had twenty eight fourteen late in the third quarter the Packers drop to five in two despite dividing Adams three touchdowns I did very
Cousins: No virus worry, wants to 'respect' others' concerns
"NFL starting quarterback. That's that's talking about the corona virus. He gave an interview and was asked about the coronavirus and he said. If I get it. So be it if I die I die. Viking quarterback Kirk cousins. He's kind of taking a survival of the fittest approach to the thing personally speaking right and he says, if I di Di I kind of have peace about that. He said he doesn't believe facemasks work in helping to prevent the spread of covid but he repeatedly said he does he does in fact, wear them because he wants to respect others concerns about the virus so they asked him. Gave from a scale of one to ten. What's your level of concern over contracting the virus? One being the person who says masks are stupid you're all a bunch of lemmings while ten is I'm not leaving my master bedroom or the bathroom for the next ten years cousin said, well, we'll call anybody stupid because you gotta get in trouble for that but I'd be a point zero, zero, zero, zero, zero one.
Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott will play on franchise tag of $31.4M
"This was the biggest surprise I think I've said on this show. Eighty million times I thought this was going to get done We were recording this thirty seconds before the franchise tag deadline at like three, fifty, nine, twenty, five, as I'm saying this so you know. Knock on wood that it holds true, but Dak Prescott will officially going kirk cousins route as his long term extension with Dallas cowboys was left. negotiated a long term deal reports indicate that the sides broke off talks as early as march in never really hop back on the wagon the cowboys would like you to know and I wrote back in September that they were offering him more than one hundred million dollars in guarantees. Guarantees which depending on if it's a practical guarantees, are actual monetary guarantees would be an NFL record Dak Prescott would like you to know that they also insisted on an extra year of service for that privilege. It looked like he was. He was searching for more something along the lines of the Russell, Wilson, deal where it was more of a four year more compact thing, and then you can dip again, for your thirty Still Shocked I think he's a top five quarterback I thought Seth Wall Dirty Espn made a good point that if you had to round up, Fi, you know. Two or three quarterbacks that you were sure in five years, we're still going to be top five quarterbacks Dak. Prescott would certainly be one of them so I don't understand why this didn't get done I think it's a gigantic financial mistake. for the cowboys of cost themselves now the franchise tag now becomes the floor. The next franchise tag now becomes the floor for the next negotiating period, and so on and so on. We've seen how this works out. But what's the deal I wonder you know he's? He's one of the most efficient players in the league. He fits well in the offense. You kept the coordinator. Is this Mike McCarthy saying? I WANNA. Get a look at the Sky I. Yeah this one is surprising as well to me. Connor I mean it seemed like they were the last couple of weeks headed toward their kirk cousins situation, but it's still kind of stunning that they took care of their running back before their quarterback like this all dates back to that decision to sign Ezekiel Elliott I instead of taking care of the quarterback, and that and they end up here and now they're in this as you referenced this. Three, year kind of tag situation where the numbers go up, which obviously is the base negotiating point for a long term deal, so you know next year would be. This year's tag is about thirty one million next year tag is like thirty seven and a half million or so, and then they have a choice between the transition and a super high franchise tag the year after that as opposed to the long-term deal. Deal
Will Dak Prescott Sign A Long Term Deal With The Dallas Cowboys?
"Prescott. There is two hours and fifty one minutes left until Dak, Prescott, and Dallas Cowboys can work in extension if not he will be under the franchise tag for the next season earning himself thirty one point four million dollars guaranteed. With the potential chance I, guess up after this season or get franchise tag again. He is now the third quarterback in the history of franchise tags and the NFL to play on the franchise tag. If that happens obviously before after four o'clock drew brees that it what the San Diego chargers. He leaves Don Kirk cousins, does it? What The Washington redskins twice? He leaves town, so history says Dak Prescott will play. This franchise tag may be getting again even but not in Dallas Cowboy long-term. If Your Dad, how do you feel? Do you pumped about thirty one point? Four million dollars guaranteed because if I'm looking at that piece of paper I'm like fucking here we go. Yeah. He's got to be torn. I would imagine I'm sure you're excited. Okay? I'm going to be the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys for another year. MC, thirty one million guaranteed, but he doesn't feel like he has that long term security that he wants from the team. McKay. You think I'm your guy. You're willing to pay thirty one MIL for one year. Why doesn't that don't you think you should give me five six year extension and give me big time money for down the road? That's where he's gotTA. Be Thinking, but so if he doesn't do it today though. He will become a free agent. When the League year starts next March right now after the season they can negotiate. There's another window after the season before free agency to work a long term deal. I actually had that happened after I got franchise tag the day before free agency, we worked a five year deal or four year deal, so I never hit the market, but I was franchise tag the year before, so they could still potentially do that, but I guess I five year deal was offered to Prescott. Numerous Times but DAK wants a four year deal. Cowboys won a five year deal and we've been told by everybody around the cowboys and that knows the organization that that is literally. The only holdup is a one year difference so that's very interesting to me because it feels like there's it's much bigger than just a one year difference there. Thirty three to thirty five million dollars offered with over one hundred million dollars guaranteed, so if you look at that, they know that the cowboys won a five year deal that means three years of that deal was guaranteed. The other two were not locked in for five years as opposed to attack once for four, so everybody's assuming he's going to sign that deal. They're not going to get a deal done, but it's interesting because. He could potentially get thirty seven point four or something next year if he gets franchise tag thirty seven point nine if he gets franchise tag again I, don't see them running into the situation next free agency. I don't. There's no way that the franchise tagging him again they would. You would think they get the deal done I think that they're trying to see if he and Mike McCarthy going to work, I honestly believe that I think there's now granted. They made him one hundred million dollar guarantee already, so maybe I'm wrong in thinking
Cowboys' Prescott signs $31M tag, still time for longer deal
"Dak Prescott will make more than thirty one million dollars. Maxine does player that tag making me cowboys, the only with the NFL pay three players at least twenty million dollars per year. If Daphne, the CAP was can't reach a deal by July, teeth, the first quarterback to play a season under the tax, kirk cousins two thousand seventeen, so the man who broke the news himself shefty. We're going to turn to you to start things off. Why now for Dak? Prescott signing his tag tender? I think this is something that he's been thinking about all along field and again. You're in a situation where we're GONNA pandemic. We don't know whether they'll be fans this year. We don't know whether the revenues will be dropping. There are a lot of unanswered questions, and in a time of uncertainty, I think. Dak Prescott is opting for the certainty of thirty one point four million dollars. Dollars that become guaranteed once. He does sign that franchise. Tag John told he will do today and again to have that guaranteed. There's not preclude the two sides from having those contract talks though they're no further along at this point in time, dad continues to want a four year deal. The cowboys wanted to sign a five or longer year deal, and the two sides unable to. To bridge their differences, so if Dak Prescott in the cowboys cannot work out their differences by July, Fifteen Dak would play this year for thirty one point four million dollars, the two sides would be barred from having any talks about any extension until after the season, and maybe they find themselves right back in the same spot next year, and if the salary cap stays flat or Or goes down the cost of Franchising Dak next year would be about thirty seven point seven million dollars, which could be prohibitive if the CAP stays flat or goes down Dax going, take a thirty one point four this year, and then take his chances next year, if and when these two sides cannot get a deal done a long term deal done in the next few

I think this literal job but now it also as US talking about it probably makes sense for the for publication. They're nick you know when you go to a very nice restaurant. Cousins: Empty stadium play could be 'refreshing'
"Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk cousins didn't cry uncle when asked about the possibility of playing games in empty stadiums without fans cousin said quote honestly we practice every day in an empty grass area and pumping fake crowd noise for away games you're used to it OTA practices don't have a lot of pomp and circumstance to them so honestly to go out and just play the game what kind of be refreshing a breath of fresh air cousins says to just let us know that we don't have to have all the smoke in the fire we can just play football cousins expressed optimism regardless he said quote hopefully if it's still not returned to normal we can find a way to make
Buffalo Bills acquire Diggs from Vikings for 4 picks
"Radio back to the NFL some big moves Monday as the talking began Tom Brady hasn't made a decision although some of the decisions may be impacting him meanwhile we know Amari Cooper will be staying with Dallas end the bills reportedly acquiring Stefon Diggs of the Vikings for four draft picks earlier on ESPN radio on Freddie inferred Simmons giving up a first fifth sixth for a guy who has been a massive headache in your locker room for the last two years and and during a you know a playoff game wild card game against the saints when I got but ends up winning the game right exactly Kirk cousins goes to Kyle Rudolph instead of digs no no I'm not some of the game winning touchdown time out at third or those of third down conversion and and they converted and digs goes off the field and throws his helmet into the bench do it you got a first down you about winning the game were just by yourself oh wait yeah we we we we know what you're about so I don't get giving up that much to get him outside from the public but from a kid a skill standpoint I do get it I knew they would take that better back to back thousand yard seasons I mean he is a remarkable talent my problem with Gallic Biggs is in the room because when he's not being targeted he's a pain in the rear end I wonder how much of this is the findings wanted out of Minnesota so badly that he was going to act like that now I'm not trying to explain it not condoning it all in but I wonder how much a whatever led to him wanting a break wanting a divorce in the Minnesota Vikings whatever that was it could be Adam Phelan and his emergence or you want to play a Kirk cousins wait a problem Mike Zimmer whatever it was the findings have enough for Minnesota and he did everything possible verbally invent action wise to make sure that they were not going to keep him even early today when Kirk cousins got his extension the findings was not have a leader was not even Catholic high thought he said I guess it's time to get out here tell me about the Minnesota he was determined to get out of whatever led to the break I don't know what it was but he got his wish now the findings you got what you want to handle it because if you don't people gonna say you had a good thing going to Minnesota where they were building my United Phelan and that wasn't good enough for you buffalo reportedly sending four picks to Minnesota a first a fifth or sixth in twenty twenty and a fourth rounder in twenty twenty one while also getting a seventh rounder back this spring from the Vikings Diggs is in the second year of a five year seventy two million
Bills to land WR Diggs in trade with Vikings
"The bills first I see first reported I think from Jay Glazer from NFL I'd fax the bills the Buffalo Bills required wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a trade with the Vikings and you said Adam Schefter has more information as a shifter put out what the other parts the deal A. R. the bills are sending a first round pick a fifth round pick a sixth round pick and twenty twenty one fourth round pick for digs and a twenty twenty seventh round pick she thinks the Texans feel right now yeah that's a ton that's W. said I mean that's the whole that's the whole you're given up for de Andre Hopkins or at least what should have been writing up for de Andre Hopkins yeah he is no where Stefon Diggs being is nowhere near the caliber of receiver that the Andre Hopkins is now no he's not and that's amazing what a great move for the bills huh great move for the bills the Vikings get more and so so now the Vikings become well you you would think better he didn't want to play for the river last year with the injuries they had a tight end out wide receiver that also him not getting the ball and prodding and being upset that he didn't get the ball and now do you see the contract getting paid to Kirk cousins it
Cousins, Vikings agree to 2-year contract extension
"Gentlemen I know we are having the talk about the corona virus however there is NFL news for you the Viking have reached an agreement with quarterback Kirk cousins on a two year extension so they're more police with him than we were led to believe I think they're just spreading out that money yeah no quite there doing what the bears want to do with Leonard Floyd I don't think they're any happier with Kirk cousins today is that they were at the end of the season do you think calf I think they're like yeah there's not much else a healthy world Hey we got to the playoffs we wander around

"Today I'm Courtney Cronin. NFL Nation reporter for the Minnesota Vikings. And he's might Tanenbaum. ESPN spion front office insider and former NFL general manager. Now as we teach before the break we sixteen isn't over yet and arguably the biggest game of the weekend happens up here in Minnesota in the frozen Tundra tonight. It's vikings packers and the Minnesota. Vikings have already clinched their spot in the postseason by virtue of Rams was lost in subsequent elimination from the playoffs. They still have a chance Mike to win the NFC north if they can win their final two games in the packers then lose their final two games. which would be tonight and then in in week seventeen at home against a very bad lions team so it doesn't really feel like that's all that likely of happening but Minnesota's going to the playoffs as a wildcard team in the NFC North North as we knew would be a very tough place to play this year? They're going to get two teams in the postseason and I think it's when you look It's a really a fascinating game to be coordinated also a fascinating division. Minnesota's really hard team for me to figure out because I think their ceiling is incredibly credibly high. I think there's going to be other teams that go to the playoffs with maybe a higher floor but a lower ceiling. This is a team that when their game has gone courting. And you know this team better than anybody the they are really. They dismantled the Philadelphia Eagles. Thirty to twenty in week six They had some real like against the chargers for for example on the road being by twenty nine points but then there were some other their lows. Were really low so I think there are a little bit of a hard team to figure out Dalvin Cook to me. Is the comeback player or the year. His health going into the postseason obviously is going to be the biggest question mark because to me watching kirk cousins now for a number of years. I think he's best off of play action and nothing so it's a play action better than Cook. Yeah and Alvin is ruled out for tonight. Alexander Madison the backup rookie listed as questionable. He has a high ankle sprain and since they've they've already clinched their spot in the postseason feels doubtful that he will play so the Vikings dealing with some injuries down the stretch but the packers appear to be peaking at the right time. Here your show tested tour. WHO's on call Monday night? Football and Golic and Wingo this morning. This is the time of the year where we have to remind ourselves that teams. Don't stay the same. It's about up putting yourself in position to play the most meaningful games on this weekend's hopefully you don't have to play a meaningful game next weekend and then the coming weeks and then you look at Seattle and you see how banged up. They are now going into the playoffs. And they're gonNA be playing a division championship type game next Sunday night and you have to always ask yourself. Who would would you rather be? You want health. You want momentum you want things clicking this time of the year Saab present that same question to you might. Who would you want ought to be in a circumstance heading into week? Sixteen down the stretch. Can I take the Packer offense and the Viking defense. That's fine but love to hear why I I just trust our Rogers A lot more than I do her cousins. I believe Kirk cousins is eight on Monday night football and defensively You Know Green Bay has been a little inconsistent of late. You know they start off really strong. They're still there in the league interception rate but when you look at a lot of them meaningful statistics physics on defense most nobly nineteenth on third down. I used to work with Mike Patton. A number of years ago The Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator. He believes in pressure pressure packages. But I just think they've been a little bit inconsistent especially on the back end where they've drafted so many first and second round picks over the last couple of years. I think Gerry Alexander. ZANDER will have a chance to be an elite corner. But beyond that they've been a little too inconsistent for me. I love the pressure. Package of Mike Zimmer and what they can do defensively it's of Lee so should be a really good match-up I think Joe Torre said makes a lot of sense Teams are dramatically different today than they were you know let alone four weeks ago. Go three months ago so I think Green Bay's defense isn't what it was. I think Minnesota's offense has to find its way without Alvin Cook and the best teams play their best football football in December and last time these teams met was in week two and like you mentioned the vikings offense vastly different from that first meeting on the packers defense. Two uh-huh quite different. I don't know if you WANNA call it regression things like that maybe leveling off But it's interesting here when you take a look at the way the strength of these teams teams. You mentioned the Green Bay offense. I think a lot of people give Aaron Rodgers some flak at this time of year. I know that I've seen articles of these X.. Number of quarterbacks are playing better better than Aaron Rodgers at this very moment and yeah. They spent all their money on defense in free agency to rebuild a unit that had that had to happen. And when you look at Aaron Rodgers. Here's in what he doesn't have. He's got a really good running game that runs through Aaron Jones But offensively on the outside. He just doesn't have the weapons needed in order to Hugh Sustain a long playoff run. But you know it comes down to the question. Would you rather have kirk cousins. Who has not won a playoff game yet in his career? Would you rather have Aaron Rodgers. Who won several and won on a super bowl coming up next season is on the line? Wouldn't it make sense to make your best person. Put Your best personnel on the field. I've your Jason Garrett that's next on. ESPN radio the ESPN APP up and Sirius Xm channel eighty two little tar show on.

"You're not hearing Dan today. But we're here COURTNEY CRONIN ESPN NFL nation reporter for the Minnesota the Vikings he's Mike Tannenbaum former NFL GM in front office insider now throughout the last few weeks. We've been waiting for the playoff scenarios area to come out figuring out how the field going to be set in the popular topic of conversation is who do you believe in the most. So of course we're GONNA talk about who we believe even the least coming out of week. Sixteen Mike I've got two teams once in the AFC one from the NFC. I would like to call playoff frauds. I don't know if that's too harsh of language anguish figuring this is the NFL. It's hard to win games but teams that I think are one and done and the first one Houston Texans. I watched a very uninspiring during offensive performance. And I really not that confident into Shawn Watson ability to get this done in the first round. They did clinch the AFC AFC south but they have no chance to get a BI so they will be playing wild card weekend. And then I take a look at the Seattle seahawks figuring all the injuries and everything that happened in just a really bizarre loss they had to the Arizona cardinals on Sunday night. So those are my two love to get into that but I I want to hear who do you think would fall in this category starting in the AFC Pittsburgh if they were fortunate enough to get in Courtney. They're really on their fourth quarterback. A lot of people don't realize this. They had a young talented quarterback that they liked a lot in Josh Dobbs who they traded a preseason he was somebody that played really well couple pre-seasons ago in green bay a very talented from the University of Tennessee. So between obviously Rothlisberger being Rudolph Duck Hodges actually got through four them which is really remarkable so it just don't see a lot of upside if they make it and then I agree with you when you look at the NFC Seattle. They're absolutely decimated with injuries. And most nobly elite dwayne Brown. They're very talented left tackle. We saw last night. What it meant when you have to face Chandler Jones and Arizona's defense without a great left tackle let alone multiple running back so I think Seattle is really up against it due to those injuries? So they're bound right now by the five seat which could very easily change. I think it's pretty unique. The situation that we have where in the NFC it feels like all the teams are pretty much set outside of the NFC's because that's the last to be decided but positioning tioning here like there's a lot that could change coming down to week seventeen. So they're heading into a finale against the San Francisco Forty niners where they can win the NFC west and they've got a history of playing really well in these situations especially at home when you take a look at the game that the forty niners are coming off of going down to a field goal against against the rams and just kind of what that sets Seattle up to do in the final week. How do you see that one faring out well you know what's interesting? is you see some reports. Say of of marshawn lynch possibly home back to Seattle. which would be incredible? You know on a lot of levels but I just don't see how he could be game rated help necessarily this week I've had the privilege of working with Brian. Schottenheimer who's the offense coordinator. She I I gotta think Courtney that they'll try to run the ball short in the game not put Russell Wilson in harm's way against a very dominant front seven San Francisco. I would expect a low scoring game. I would think see I will try and make it more of a time of possession game and the funny thing is here like all of these scenarios is the number one seed is still in play like for first Seattle. I mean they could. They need one of two additional things. Take Place I would be a saints loss in week. Seventeen and a one and one finish by the packers. They've got the vikings tonight and then they've got Detroit at home in week seventeen so it doesn't feel all that realistic. The second scenario here the saints lose an Owen to finish by the packers in a to finish by the Vikings. Like when you look at all of this and all that's in play can you. This is not normal. All right where you've got this much parody. When when things are shifting and changing going down into week seventeen I felt like for a while? These games really wouldn't matter for the top seeds in the NFC but it feels like there's still a lot left on the table you know what's really cool. Actually is we do the football frenzy show on Sunday nights and last night during on our show the League announced all the shifting of the Games. And what's great about it literally every game next week except for the Rams Arizona game which by the way I why is a football fanatic find very interesting because cow Murray arguably may be out playing Jar Gov. That's a story for another show but Every game besides that one we'll have playoff implications and I think to your point specifically Courtney as it relates to the NFC. I think certainly New Orleans San Francisco Seattle Battle Green Bay and and we'll see about Minnesota and I draw a line shake him up really any of those teams. You know you would think within reason whatever chance to get to the super bowl as it relates to the NFC east Assuming now that'll be Philadelphia. Look Carson Wentz. His game is as good as anybody else's now again because they're missing so many pieces you would think that's going to catch up to them and like Seattle Missing Dwayne Brown Phil Philadelphia Missing Lane. Johnson again topped here offensive. Tackle Guy. I think that's good mm-hmm at some point and I think if it plays out where let's say. MINNESOTA GOES TO PHILADELPHIA in round one. We could be looking at a road playoff favorite in the first tails. And that's what the one thing I wanNA bring up with you. It's Dan lebatardshow on. ESPN radio the ESPN APP and Sirius. Xm Channel Eighty brought to you by the Home Depot with everything you need eight to do. Projects Smarter Faster and easier. Welcome to today's Home Depot. How do I get more done? The wild thing to me Mike when you look at the NFC is that there could very easily be six seed that is an eleven win or a twelve win team and that would be rather historic because the most wins by sixty eight in the twelve team playoff format format since one thousand nine hundred eleven and that's been done six times previously. The last time was in two thousand fourteen when the eleven and five lions went on the road to face a twelve and four cowboys team in Dallas. Ended it up winning that game. Twenty four twenty teams with eleven wins as a sixty four into all time in the wildcard round. We know how hard it is to get out of wild card weekend in make your way to the Super Bowl but does it feel like with this. NFC just the way that the teams are lined up right now that any of these teams given the the strength from top to bottom one six any of these to any of these sixteenth could win the Super Bowl. I I do because I think it's so interesting. Courtney is look at the a quarterback play of the teams. Were talking about here You could make an argument that any of those six could win the super bowl and I would say of the six Jimmy. Garoppolo is probably the weakest at least on paper but he may have the strongest supporting cast so. I think any of those six teams that you've talked about with the exception of douse me. Replacing Philadelphia could plausibly. Get there and be the representative in Miami so it comes down to for the NFC next week Philadelphia Alpha or the Dallas cowboys. We WanNA know has Jason Garrett lost the locker room..

"I'm curious though because Amari Cooper three weeks ago at the beginning getting of December there was a story that said he was planning to sign a cowboys contract extension whenever it came quote. If it ain't broke don't fix it. That's an article from bleacher report it can potentially do you think he's changing his mind right now given what happened last night But even beyond that and just the way that he's been used in not used in this offense like you think back back to the Times that the cowboys had beaten the Eagles and they've had their number for a number of years now. Doug Peterson said as much last week when he was asked about it. The first three Games of Dak Prescott in Amari Cooper versus the Eagles Prescott targeted him seventy-five targeted at twenty five percent. Completion percentage fourteen eighteen point two yards per attempt three passing touchdowns on Sunday thirty three percent. Completion percentage two point zero yards per attempt in zero passing touchdowns. Amari took credit for me. took the blame that he said I didn't have a great game and really that was probably one of his worst games of his career. But when you look at the byproduct of what what this offense has done and the fact that Amari Cooper was not part of it. Is this a place where you could see him saying. Hey maybe I don't WanNa be here next year. This is a little bit of an educated guess on my behalf I know we him when he came out and just listening to people in and around him I think McKee's not a grass is greener guy and look I'm sure as a competitor. He's obviously very disappointing to get the ball last night. And you make really good points Courtney about productivity targets however. I just think that if they came to him with a reasonable deal that put him plus or minus where his mark is pretty well defined yet. Julio Jones Michael Thomas you know he he's in that sort of upper-echelon. I'm sure they could come to something reasonable. So could you move on absolutely i. My sense is it's gone. Well there there's been a couple of the road like there was last night but if I'm him I could be a star there be there for the next ten years. My Gut would tell me that they could. I figure something out and work it out in a reasonable way. A few teams are going to make the playoffs that have no chance at winning the Super Bowl. That's coming up next but first when do you want wants to spot that burglar when he's casing your home or after he's already in asked John who splints camera alerted him burglars trying.

"All Boys and the Eagles Dallas had a chance Mike to go into Philadelphia to lock up the NFC East which still remains open at this point despite seventeen nine nine win by the Eagles so setting this all up for week. Seventeen if the eagles lose and the Cowboys Win Dallas backed their way into the playoffs by winning the NFC east and they go to the playoffs. They go to the post. Season have foreseen the cowboys lose and the Eagles win. Philadelphia wins the East and has the home playoff game On Wild Card weekend so this past off season the priorities for the Dallas cowboys in paying players looked like this. They got some offensive lineman locked up. They brought Ezekiel Elliott back from Kabo during his holdout. Gave Him the keys to the offense or so we thought by paying him and making him a record setting rich man in August before that they gave a first round. Pick to bring Amari Cooper into this offense to make him a centerpiece piece of the passing attack with Dak Prescott. Last night in the loss to the eagles he has four catches for twenty four yards. It feels like the cowboys are wasting his prime. I'm in very much the same thing with Dak Prescott. They still have yet to pay him and he is due for an extension this off season. I'M GONNA start out with this when you're looking at the negotiation factor here once the seasons and they start thinking about the twenty twenty season does last night for Amari Cooper. Does that play to his advantage. Just the way he was used and and you know particularly you think about the way that they could have won this game he's not even on the field. YEA cordy lot to unpack there specifically to answer your question yes again again. The cowboys have led the NFL on third down conversion since the trae going back a year and a half ago when the first round. Pick to the raiders I've talked about this. Listen Still I. I just strategically believe Dallas Cowboys have made a mistake now with that. Said they have earned the right to put themselves in the position because they have acquired talent. Well they signed on Jalen Smith. I have no problem with that. In terms of he was a player that exceeded expectations came back from an injury. They signed demarcus Lawrence. He's a pass Russia. He's young. I understand that however what I don't understand is signing lyle collins and a sequel Elliott especially Zeke Elliot. WHO has one more year left on his contract? And they could've franchise sanchis him when you have a high character productive durable quarterback in Dak Prescott. And you just gave up a first round. Pick for Amari Cooper so if we're sitting in Jerry Jones shoes today and we're looking at. How do we strategize going to the twenty twenty off season? You cannot franchise your quarterback and here's why if you do that presumably you've gone to Austin's now and you weren't able to sign him. He's probably gonNA come in the Tuesday before the regular season opener. Not Miss A paycheck because it's approximately one seventeenth of twenty five million dollars. But if you think about going back to May June Ota's minicamps camps training camp. All those wraps all those meetings all those practices all those exhibition games will be meaningless. Because you'RE GONNA be out there. Where Cooper Rush? Everyone's GonNa. I know that they're meaningless. Because starting quarterbacks out there so it literally wipes away months of preparation. So it's virtually impossible to franchise your a quarterback so you've put your you really put yourself behind the eight ball and that as relates to Amari Cooper his agents sitting there knowing that you gave a first round pick nick you've basically given him a blank check and by the way I think that's happened with Houston and Laremy Tunsil. I think that's having with the Rams Jalen Ramsey when you give a first round pick or more and you don't get an extension the most leverage you have courtney is before you sign the trade papers and under the NFL rules. You have the right to bring in a player like tonsil like Ramsey like cooper to take a physical and negotiate a contract in contemplation of trade and All Dallas. I do is say. The raiders like we have agreement in principle. We were twenty four hours to try and get an extension done and that's when you have the most leverage because the players looking for payday and to get to a new you team but once you make the trade and you give up that draft capital without the extension you literally are giving the player a blank cheque. So you're saying that Dallas really isn't in position right now to use the franchise tag on deck and that's been something that we've talked about For the last couple of months thinking okay. They haven't paid them yet. They could have extended extended him in season. This is what this line for. Now I'm curious like the wide receiver tag projected for two thousand twenty for the Franchise Tag. It's eighteen point. Four nine million dollars. Is there era possibility that they could use a transition tag and for those who don't know what that is Mike. If you could give a little bit inside I mean. Is there possibility that any of those two tenders could be placed on Amari Cooper again start with the franchise tag. I just don't see it because impracticality. You're basically eviscerating your season program. Because you're starting quarterbacks out there and just look you can get some work done on the defensive side of the ball but I I've been there. I know when he players Miss Practice. Everyone's rolling their there is like you know the Z.. Kelly to the world and the offensive linemen are like. Why are we doing this week? We're we're we're installing things. We're going through different checks and all all the things all the intricacies of building offense at our main guys in here like we're wasting everyone's time and it just it kills morale and I know it's easy to say like Oh we'll just tag him. But he if they franchise him he won't be there now. You bring up a very interesting question as it relates to the transition tag. Here's what's interesting that means and so he's GonNa pay the average of the ten highest paid quarterbacks he could go out and he could get another offer and then Dallas can match and then he's a cowboy or not. Ah Here's the challenge with that you're basically you are at the whims of the open market and the team that you know very very well. The Minnesota Vikings Kirk cousins exceeds expectations. He gets eighty four million dollars on the open market fully guaranteed contract. If there's a team that wants to sign dot Prescott. They you may put in a clause or structure a contract. Where let's let's say there's fifty sixty million dollars in year one just to make it almost untenable for Dallas to match it so when you you transition somebody you now have the right to match a right of first refusal? It's a very scary proposition. I've been there I've used it. Who just don't know how other teams are going to react to it? It's.

"Code H, E R D played a decade and a half Super Bowl. Pro bowler Trent Dilfer via the cower global satellite networks joining us. All right, Washington. Kept franchise tagging Kirk cousins Vikings needed a quarterback said we're gonna move off case keenum. We're going to bring in Kirk cousins. I'm watching last night Trent sometimes I think they miss case keenum, what went wrong in this deal. Wrong. I think let the starting point is that obviously close people believe this this time the Vikings overpaid for her cousin. But it's what the market was dictated at the time. Kirk. I'd good timing in the whole process. Therefore, he gets overpaid say twenty thirty percent. But I think there's a bigger issue going on it how when the Vikings were looking at new quarterback upgraded. Poor back in Minnesota miss evaluating her Kirk cousins was we we know Mike Zimmer is an old school defensive center. Coach he's gonna want to run the ball at high volume. He's gonna want us quarterback move the chains on fretful bounce and obviously finished drives in the red zone. That's not who Kirk cousins was in Washington. Kirk cousins is a volume passer. He's a guy that thrived on early downs. Not laid down. He thrived in the middle of games. Dan, two halves at the end of game. He's a guy that is a stat junkie not his fault. But he was. A product of a lot of early down passes schemes that fit his out level allowed him to be really successful. The Vikings miss evaluated that type of player he is. So now, you get stuck in the situation where Zimmer is force is forcing us for Nader all more runs. They're freaking out. Must more must have situations. Where a Tom Brady Rives Aaron Rodgers thrives Philip rivers fried bribes for not work for cousins rights, so it was really the Missa valuation of the Vikings and they overpaid for him. And it's making Kirk look like a shell. What he really is. Whereas if you had a coach understood who he was then you'd be more of a volume pass team, which by the way, they were early. You would highlight your best players on the team feeling dates Rudol, and you would be more sixty five thirty five past run team. But that's not who's ever wants to be. And that's how what cousins does. Well, okay. Let's shift adak the conversation now Jerry wants him. What are we going? Pay him. Where would you go with Dak on that money situation where we got another year to figure it out? I personally internally wanna see him do something special in a playoff run doesn't mean win the Super Bowl but carry a little bit more water for his team. Like you did in the fourth quarter the other day against the eagles where he kinda puts the team on his shoulders and big situations and big moments, especially in January. I think that's one way he can earn a big contract. I still think you need to be having conversations with Zajac right now saying if you think you're going to break the Bank, you're not going to we'll start looking into the drought. We'll start looking at different option because we're not going to do it say the Vikings did. But I think calling I think this is something you can build off of your the rest of the season. It's being the next season builds on a bigger issue. And that's where the salary cap is really flawed when it comes to quarterback in this next collective bargaining agreement. The players have to fight take quarterback salary out of the standard. Salary cap and create its own quarterback salary cap. This players are getting hurt from it. Because there's a lot of players on the Cowboys that if they pay back they're not gonna be able to pay down, and it seems to to easy excuse me. Just a separate the quarterback out of the salary cap, but a separate salary cap on that position. So that the rest of the fifty three min fifty two men on the roster can be rewarded as they should. Because right now when you overpay for quarterback, you're backing four to six other guys should be getting rewarded for their efforts? And they're really not. I swear to God I had this conversation with the buddy two nights ago, the same conversation is that if you separated the quarterback, I don't like franchise tags either for quarterback that traps them. Okay. Aaron Rodgers you run the organization tomorrow what kind of coach do you give him?.

"But it's still a team sport. Yeah. So you need someone to to balance out the this the mega superstar, and that's why they didn't win their first year Miami. Because it was the team. He did have the championship. It was delayed city. And there was an it was an balance there have been reached. So they did they didn't eat each other for sure D Wade's a gold standard gold standard guy in this league. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news and thanks for stopping by heard lie. Let's bring him in. He is now a member of the American media tough questions. Big opinions. Former Packers Super Bowl Pro Bowl, Greg Jennings. You know, I'm watching Kirk cousins last night. Who I was thinking of Washington. Yep. They everybody freaked out. But Greg, I I was this was this is where Greg was wrong. You know, you're always pro player. And it's like you don't anytime a player gets franchise the franchise tag once. And then you do it again. It's like come on, man. You can't tag them like that Washington. New Washington had this, right and applause to the tops in organization over there. Because when you look at making an investment like this twenty eight million a year twenty eight million dollars a year, you got to win games. Like they were in last night four and thirteen in prime time. You cannot this is why Washington refuse to commit long-term with Kirk cousins. Because they knew this was this was a kind of a kink in his armor. Can't he he hasn't been able to prove that he can win in the primetime gay and make the play and make the plaza was awful last night. But he made yet. You know, I it's interesting about that. Because somebody told me this years ago in baseball, they they say in cars, the only person that really knows the odometer of the cars the initial owner. That's why you don't bite used car. You know, if anybody's toyed or the, you You know. know, it's the same thing when you when you have a house, and you're the first person to move into a house, you know, the house, you know, the issues the bathtub doesn't work, right? You gotta leak over here. And I would say this is that Washington scouted Kirk cousins they had him as a backup. They saw him in the locker room. They they in the end when a team let's go their starting quarterback as a pretty good indication of what he is. Now Dak this leads us today. Dallas knows all the good and the bad debt. Here's the funny thing and I've been super critical of deck, but Greg stability, mobility, leadership and he wins a lot of close games. He does Greg. He is in these big all cowboy games are standalone, big TV games. They win a lot of these. And he looks bad in a lot of these. But I gotta tell you. What would you pay him? I wouldn't pay him Kirk cousins money. No, absolutely not. When you listen to Jerry Jones. He says Amari Cooper, he's coming for his money. He knows he's Zeke. You elliott. I'm gonna have to back the bring struck up to him. When you look at the Dallas Cowboys those guys make Dak Prescott better that Prescott doesn't make them better. Don't get me wrong. He's an important piece to why they're winning and he does some things writings well. But at the quarterback position, this is why can respect Jerry Jones in this sense because he's not just playing paying. The position. Like most teams do it's quarterback. We we're kind of in a bind we're in a corner. Let's just pay her cousins. Nope. We we see that our quarterback. Kenny be good. Absolutely. Is he better if we add pieces around him? Yes. And so until you get to the point where you make everybody around you better. Then you deserve that money. Then we paid the player which is the quarterback position. You know? It's funny. I didn't like a college. Then I really liked him..
"kirk cousins" Discussed on You're Wrong... And Here's Why
"He can't also be asked to go play defense and rush the passer or stop them to you that as long as outgoing scoring pointing, Chris, if you replace Nick foles with Kirk cousins and the Super Bowl last year, do the eagles win up. Yeah, probably. So you think Kirk cousins is going out on scoring on every single drive, like Nick foles. Can you think in in a normal game, Nick foles is going out and scoring on every single Dr. That's civic sill. Says you're saying, so you're saying, what can your your your criteria here is Ken, Kirk Kirby, absolutely. Perfect. Place, Kirk cousins in that situation. Do you think the Vikings beat the eagles last year in the playoffs of her cousins is the quarterback and knock case keenum. I don't know about that, but that game was just such a such a rolling over by the eagles. I think that the Vikings were kind of spent from that game prior that big saints game, and it was tough to get back up. But look, I don't understand the criteria. You're saying, if you place foles with cousins, does do the eagles win the game, but by what you're saying, if if the eagles were placed if place. So if the eagles replaced foles with Aaron Rodgers to they win the Super Bowl. If Aaron Rodgers has to be one hundred percent perfect new, probably not. Here's my point. You keep bringing up the fact that your defense, you can't rely on your defense. You can't do quarterbacks, not responsible for that, that that means you have to go out and do your job and continue to score. That's my point with the full Super Bowl thing. Kirk, you can blame Kirk cousins, defense in Washington, and all you want, feel free for not winning games, but the proof is in the pudding like it's not just on the defense for you to win. You have to continue to put up, especially in today's NFL where scores continue to escalate higher and higher. You have to go out and score every single time you have the ball if you have that opportunity. I don't think her cousins is a guy. Listen. If you said you have one game, one game, you can pick any quarterback that you want the NFL I, there's at least five quarterbacks I'd choose before. I chose Kirk cousins. So a lot of that would have to be style. Of play of the defense and all and surrounding talent. But like I said, the only three, I'm sure I'm taking our Carson Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady after that, you know, there's a lot of guys in the conversation, but I think cousins lease it. I got it. I think it's so unfair that your criteria is go score every single time because nobody can go score every single time and you talk about the proof being in the pudding. By the way, we're getting to a five minute. Mark. Here we'll talk. We've got Got to to cut cut it. it proof being in the pudding. Guess the proof is in the pudding. Washington steam was bad because their front office was incompetent and that same front office, let Kirk cousins go in favor of out Smith the end. We'll take a pool. Take a quick break guys. Are you looking to last a little.
"kirk cousins" Discussed on You're Wrong... And Here's Why
"I didn't hear the horn. Use it. Okay. Do you want to know why Kirk cousins isn't talked about Kris, two hundred? Why? Nobody hypes him up. It is nothing to do with college. He played in the big ten. He certainly got talked about. He may be wasn't considered a high prospect, but the reason why nobody talks about Kirk cousins, it's because the guy's not a winner. He's played in one playoff game as a starter, and it was a thirty five to eighteen shellacking at the hand of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Kirk cousins, chrome rear record his career record as a starter twenty eight, thirty two and two. That's why no one talks about him. Kirk cousins can put up all the numbers that he wants. The reason why he's not considered a top five quarterback is because of that and that alone, you see it all the times with guys. You see it all the time guys put up numbers left and right every single Sunday and no one cares about them. They don't consider them good quarterbacks Cam Newton, despite maybe his passing yards or anywhere near. The numbers of some of these other guys, but the way that guy plays the quarterback position in the dynamics that he has behind it, and the fact that he's had success in going to a Super Bowl also helps. But that guy doesn't get any recognition as being a top five quarterback. And he's in my opinion, a much more much more vital piece. His team than Kirk cousins is Kirk cousins is filling in for case keenum who excelled with the Minnesota Vikings last year. Let's check in on case keenum from lash from this year with the Denver Broncos they lost by seven hundred to the New York Jets yesterday, Kirk cousins is in the perfect situation right now with a ton of weapons around him when he was in Washington and he didn't have anywhere near those weapons. He showed what kind of quarterback he was, and it was the fact that he couldn't win. There proves that in the overall grand scheme of things, it's got, isn't a top five quarterback and I know you you're going to ask, who is it? Then Greg, who is it? Number one in my is still, and it's not going to be until he retires as Tom. Brady, then I hate Tom Brady, plain and simple. Okay. I'm gonna give you some names because I think your argument is ridiculous. Okay. Jill for Trent Dilfer Doug Williams, Brad Johnson, Jim Plunkett, Jeff, Hostetler, Jim McMahon. You know what these guys have in common Gregory, they've all won Super Bowls football more than any other sport is a game where every player matters. Not just the quarterback. The quarterbacks job is to put up numbers and be productive. I don't think we can argue the cousins has done that. And I'm confident in my argument that he's a top five quarterback in the NFL. I think the case can be made simply by going through the list. Look, I agree with you, Tom Brady's better than than Kirk cousins. I think there's two other quarterbacks in this league who are clearly better than those are Rogers and Carson Wentz. After that, there's a group of quarterbacks that includes Jared Goff and drew Brees and Rothlisberger. Rivers luck Wilson, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, your guy Cam Newton, but it's my contention that if you swap cousins on any of those teams, he would be at least if not more productive than the incumbent Goth. He's been sensational this year, but given a style of play, you've really not think that the incredibly accurate cousins would be any less productive running that Rams offense. I know I don't ask for drew Brees. By the way, congratulations to Mr. breeze who just set all time NFL record for the most passing yards in NFL history today. Cousins is basically freeze like three or four years ago. Rothlisberger has been wildly inconsistent, and he's been difficult off the field. Rivers is taken a step back. This year luck is a walking injury risk Wilson. He's interesting, but I do believe the cousins would be even better running that Seattle offense as for your guy, Cam Newton. Yes, there are. There are peaks of incredibly productive, both individually and as a team, but his style of quarterbacking makes it so incredibly difficult to build a team around and the guy she's such a diva..
