"We'll see a repeat performance of that, given who tonight will be debating BBC's Karen Travers, Our White House correspondent. Want to bring in our political director reclined these air, usually much more state affairs, but the pressure has to be on the vice president to try and shake up the dynamics of the race. We'll get to recline in a second. Steve Roberts, the ABC News political analyst, same question. Can Mike Pence shake up a race that has remained stubbornly stable? Well, it's remained stubbornly stable, except for the fact that they're in the last week or so. The poles of definitely a hit An inflection point. As of right now, the average Ah lied that the Biden ticket has his 9.7. Points. That's up two or three points from where it's been, even in battleground states. Their margin is approaching five and, yes, pencils gonna have a very difficult time because he's not someone who really appeals beyond the president's base. I expect him to focus one of the things you're going very much focus on As religious conservatives. That's who Mike Pence is. That's been one of his core constituents. You have the Supreme Court nomination of Jamie Carr. Cockney Barrett coming up on DH. I think Pence is gonna have trouble appealing beyond the president's base, but I think he's going to make a very strong pitch, particularly to religious conservatives. To get behind the president and the Supreme Court is going to be exhibit one in his argument, Aaron for sure the Supreme Court may be where the vice president wants to focus. Quail had a bad night didn't make a particle of difference in the end. What comma Harrison seems to me tonight. More than anything else is not to make some big mistake. She and her partner on the ticket or ahead. No, no, no. No big mistakes would would probably be the best outcome for her. Dana quickly You know both sides want to project I would imagine some gravitas and a little bit of professionalism that maybe we didn't see from both of these individuals on the first time around. I think you'll get it. And also there's a saying if you want to be here, you have to see her. And I think for tonight, young girls all across the country concede that you two you could be on that stage one day. This could make a difference as we've seen the polls since the first debate. Joe Biden Kamala Harris have expanded their lead in national polls and in some of the battleground states, But we're still 27 days from this election, University of Utah in Salt Lake City. "Picks in California Senator Kamala Harris will debate for the one and only time in this 2020 campaign. Good evening again from Washington. The University of Utah in Salt Lake City plays host to this vice presidential debate moderated by Susan Page of USA Today. This debate will look and it may even sound a little bit different than previous debates. Both Pence and Harris will sit in individual deaths. They're separated by more than 12 ft that is further away than the seven or so feet that You saw last week between President Trump and former vice President Joe Biden. Pence and Harris will also have a plexiglass divider is an additional Corona virus precaution that was incorporated onto the debate stage. In the aftermath of President Trump testing positive for covert 19. Now we're told both Penson hairs have tested negative for the virus today, master also being worn by everybody in the debate hall safe for the moderator, and the candidates to Cleveland Clinic is enforcing that mask mandate. For everyone inside the debate hall, including guest of the debaters watching along with us this evening is Josh Cross our our Fox News radio political analyst in the political editor at National Journal. So, Josh Listen, This is the only chance that AA lot of folks are going to get to see the running mates and as guest that we've had on our pre show have pointed out the stakes are a little bit higher than in previous vice presidential debates. That's right. This debate is taking place at a politically fraught time the White House under fire for its handling of the pandemic. Vice President Mike Pence, will be tasked with defending that administration response made this this renewed criticism the White House is facing. Meanwhile, comma Harris, really taking her her turn in the spotlight lot eyes going to be watching her as she tries to use her prosecutorial skills to make the argument against the Trump administration. Obviously, there was a lot said about the tone and tenor What happened last week between AH, President Trump and Joe Biden is that relies interruptions and the insults and all of that. That certainly is not expected tonight, given the personalities of both of the candidates on stage, and I wonder if there's an opportunity there, Josh for maybe a little bit more of that substance that they got largely overshadowed last week. This may be the most substantive debate over policy that we'll see in October. You don't come on Harris, A prosecutor and attorney, She knows how to debate. She had that big moment in the Democratic primary debate actually, against Joe Biden, hitting him over his opposition to busing Mike Pence, also an attorney, a radio talk show host. He has fared very well in these high profile debates for most, most recently in 2016 against him, cane for the vice presidential debate that year, so These are 22 fighters to to folks who have experience at the highest levels of the debate stage, and it's gonna be an argument over substance to different visions for the country more than personalities. A moderator is at her desk. It is time to take you to Kingsbury Hall at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. And tonight's moderator, Washington bureau chief for USA Today, Susan Page. "About to take plexiglass protected seats. 12 FT. Apart on a stage at the University of Utah, cases of Corona virus are rising in much of the country and at the White House. The next two presidential debates hang in limbo after President Trump's covert 19 diagnosis and so the focus turns tonight to each tickets, number two and the possibility their services might be needed. ABC NEWS White House correspondent Karen Travers is with us, Karen Good evening, Good evening Air and we talk about this race as a referendum on Donald Trump and his four years in the White House. Now tonight, vice President Pence is going to be on the hot seat defending that record as he fiercely does out on the campaign trail and That all of his White House events, But tonight he's going to be doing it with Kamala Harris going after not just the president, but also vice president Pence for his role as the head of the Corona virus Task Force. And other things that he has been involved with over the past four years. Way obviously are gonna see these two Go at it tonight, but I think the tone will be very different than what we saw it. Bring it down from where we are. Why did you say that Santa. So I live in Wyoming right now, but I used to live in San Pete county. It's in the center of the state. Okay. And I went back a year ago to visit my family, my sisters in law and a friend of mine who had moved across the street from my sisters. So we had planned to dinner on Thursday night. We got home, heard lights were all off. So we're like, we'll headed up on Friday that night. We were out chain smoking, what chain smoking brand. It's kind of embarrassing, but it's camel crush. Chris, and then it becomes fun. Any mental. It's amazing though cigarettes will kill you immediately. And that's what I'm going. Ready. I'm just getting delicious. Their fresh. Okay. So my friends, Cami, she was engaged. And that night we were outside and its wildlife outside cows and chickens, and cats and all sorts of animals. We hear. We heard a lot of noises and we thought it was just the wildlife and it was it was it was our friend Cami, and she, she got murdered by her fiance, and. It was about one hundred feet from where we were and we were right there, and I just started listening to your podcast and I was probably listening to it. "Thing. I think I think I might be on. I think I might be on probation. I'm serious DJ trouble right now. Tricia drops her fork loudly runs out of the brunch spills her coffee, but takes her toast right. Important things. Meanwhile, we're cutting back to the conference room now this gets super dark. The bomber passes around a legal pad and has everybody write their name down and the name of their next of kin. Ooh, so he's doing a lot of shit like that where he's basically like, here's my, I'm going to kill you. This is the, these are the different, like none of us are getting out of here. Love a lot of shit like that. Also, there's a woman in in the conference room with everybody who's a diabetic. She's starting to feel the effects. She has to take insulin five times a day, and she tells him, look, I'm a fucking diabetic Jin say, and. I have to take my medicine and he was like, well, if you didn't bring your medicine, then that's on you. And someone else in the room is like she could die. And he's like, well, then that's just how it is. And then he goes or maybe I'll trade her out for a cop. I've always wanted to kill. And Lloyd Prescott like. Still an accountant. Yep. Loving them, numbers accountant, April fifteenth. Hate you're so much tax day. Anyway. What are you guys talking about the police. Okay. Meanwhile over at the swat central. Yes. Deep breaths lease, get serious depress real thou-. Right, shallow fast breath if he's just sand up real quick. Yeah, and screaming. Okay. Meanwhile. This made me laugh so loudly when I watched it today. So at one point Draper looks at everybody and goes, I want all of you to strip down strip down naked party. So on girl who has been super like in the reenactment the whole time, she's been like, she's always the girl they cut to and they wanna show people being upset or worried like. Long hair, very like, you know, like down the girl next door face. And when he says that she turns around and goes, I am not doing that. Where she puts her foot down. Didn't make them do it. And you're living. I cannot tell you how much I would have been that girl and I would've been like, definitely shoot me. I am not taking my pants off in any way Ibrar E with all these nice people around there. Well, I am not doing that. You your guns in your bums. So awesome. So then he just makes them take their jackets. Oh, because she is not doing, but he has a gun under his jacket. That's exactly right. Georgia. I've been listening so you like Glenn have been listening K so he makes Quinn, of course go around and take everyone's jacket from them, and then put them in the corn. Gwen is to be the Cote girl. When is co check girl cleanse like his gopher a little looking to her, and I'm sure she's sitting there. 'cause she's probably the whole time looking at him, like, is this really what you're doing. You go get the coats. So as she's walking around the outside of the table when she gets to Lloyd Lloyd gives the old like just a real quick thing with the is not my coat and she doesn't miss a beat. I encourage everyone in your life. "To. So relaxing. Okay. Why? It's there forever now. Okay. This is how stressful it is. Okay. All right. Okay. And of that page. The pacing of this is amazing. So he tells Lloyd tells the bomber, he's an accountant, and he's just kind of like playing small spill. Coffee. Yeah, I'm just I'm a numbers guy anyway. I don't know how to mail things. Meanwhile, of course, he's wearing like a jacket like a windbreaker and he's got his gun hidden underneath it. So then Draper tells everybody that he's going to barricade the room. He has a lady shut the curtains. He does this weird thing. We keep having people do things for him. He's not doing it probably because he's holding fucking curling iron. So he he asks what time they entered the room immediately Guan's like ten to ten, and then he sets a timer for seventy two hours. So he has like this amount of time that he that they're going to do this, which is a long fucking time. And in the reenactment. That's when he says, my name's Clifford Draper. Let's get some attention. I doubt that happened. In reality, Clifford Draper was a veteran and he was a paranoid schizophrenic who had gone off his meds. Long ago. He was originally from Arkansas, but now he lived in a boarding house that was like down the street from this library. So he gets Glenn to call the police and explain to the police what's going on. So she says, I'm being held hostage in this city library with nine other people, and the police say, we want to connect you. We want him to talk to the hostage negotiator and Draper goes fucking batch it. No, no, hang up the phone, screaming screaming, then he makes Glen give the phone to Michael Greer. And he says, now you're my phone man now. So he makes Michael Greer call the local classic rock radio station Z ninety three. Yes, for real because he's going to take it to the people. He's not fucking around with the police. Any more Utah? Yeah, Z ninety three. It's the station. Everyone at work can agree on. Because everyone loves journey. So. Michael Greer has to call the radio station. It's the weekend DJ. So it's somebody who's a part timer. She's just in the reenactment. She's got headphones on, like kicking back. The most relaxed DJ you've ever seen, and she picks up the call and live on the air. Michael Moore has to say, I'm being held hostage at the Salt Lake City library and our hostage taker wants his demand read on the air and the weekend DJ goes. I don't have time for this and hangs up the phone. I mean, who wouldn't like fuck you. God damn teenagers making my DJ life, a living hell. No, we won't play Devaux. This is Z. Ninety three classic rock Led Zeppelin and Led Zeppelin. It's right. It's classic rock lock putting them while Brock block block. It's a two for Tuesday, right? But it's a weekend. This Saturday. The Saturday, one. Several songs. Hey, DJ you can take that. You can have that. Yes, for nominal fee. Meanwhile, across town, Tricia Griffith, who is the program director at Z ninety three Tricia Tricia a young lady in the nineties, directing some radio programs girl do it. She's at breakfast, so their friend, we saw brunch which she having toast Grosseto situation. She herself was Al ready taken into masterclass. So she was like four different kinds. She was like, I'm gonna have one slice Sourdot and once lies ri-. I am so high off this then air. I can't believe it. Bucked the greatest. I totally want to move here, right. So anyhow. We'll talk about it after. Okay, so she is. She gets a call that we can DJ calls her boss after she hangs up and goes, hey, so this just happened now have a weird feeling about it. I don't think I did the right thing.

"Hour. We're gonna reveal all the library secret so matters. Oh, so many. So. So she passes this way. This is the way they set it up on twenty twenty. I bet you. They didn't pass like it was a very well choreographed play, but. But she passes him. And then the scraggly guy turned to the man standing next to him and pushes a Manila envelope, like onto his chest and goes, need you to mail this mail this for me. Give this to the papers have nice life. Mine's going to be short. And then he turns around and pulls out a gun and then he pulls out a curling iron. And then he jumps on a table and he yells. Everybody. Listen up. This is a bomb. He holds the curling iron up. This is a bomb, nobody move. If I let go of this switch, this whole place blows of. So it was what they call a dead man switch. He's literally holding open a curling iron. So if you let's it go, that's when the bomb goes off so that if anything happens to him, everybody dies. That's like his insurance. You think everyone like laughed at first because he's he's Joe guys. Joking, I can see the cord of that curling iron, sir. That's curling irons. Aren't bombs. Okay. Okay. I would down. Yeah. Okay. So then he's and he's kind of like, obviously people he, you know, the guns like this, the curling irons up like this. Everybody probably ten feet and back are just like goodbye and they piece out of there as quickly and as organized fashion as possible down four escalators, oh man, five libraries of worse escape route and escalator. Yeah, because it's just so slow. You have to stand there. Escaping escaping scaping almost there. Oh, we have almost escaped music, really nice music playing behind. You. Watch your shoelace and then someone's like my shoe. The only way anybody gets caught is there shoelace get stuck in that. Oh, I just do want to say that. So the bag I, this is the reenactor. From twenty twenty. There is Stephen could find no pictures of the actual bomber Clifford Draper. But this guy this Rian onto actually does a very good job. He has very large eyes. So he's scary. They have a lot of like Brown eyeliner around his is, and he's doing a very realistic crazy person who's who, who somebody that's like on the edge that's in public, but like people aren't noticing him, but you're like, but there is something up and then he's up on the table. And then there has to be like whispering yourself and all that kind of stuff. And I was like, oh, this is going to be cheesy as well. It wasn't. This guy did a fucking great job. His name I am to be. Yes, I did. Is name is Michael B woods? And you've seen him? Yes, my teeth. He's kid seen him on a empire. You've seen to to episode character arc on Chicago PD. He's one of your favorite authors. He's not. He's not just a crazy guy in the library ref. Desk with a curling iron, and it really fucking held this twenty twenty together. It wasn't Valens EMMY so much pressure. Can they do an EMMY from before? What do they call it? When they're like retroactive metro pocket metro rack, EMMY a metro practice metro. Yeah, they do those cool especially for re-enactors. Okay. So anyway, keep your eye peeled from Michael, be woods in the future. I'm just saying, I'm calling it now. He's just got range. People range. Eyeliner looks great on him. I like when you can do the whole I, you can surround the whole line. It still doesn't look small. Oh. That means you have great big. Is. Keeping my face with the microphone here Durant. Okay. So. I told you about the dead man switch and I'm not gonna say it again. Meanwhile, over in the sheriff's administration building sheriff's office administration building, which was nearby. There is a man name a lieutenant Lloyd Prescott who's gone in in the twenty twenty goes. I went into use the computer on the weekend.

The UV rays up here are insane that you Air's thin. The stewed suffers nine puncture wounds to the face mouth arm and chest that are life threatening, but he makes a full recovery. So he's having a good time in prison. It seems like he's really criminally at up. Yeah. Okay. It's been a quarter of a century that he's been on death row, which is a long fucking time. It's five years. Finally. North. Nor you. Finally, he's fucking at on June, eighteen twenty time. He's eliminated. Okay. Wait. Let me tell you something. No, no, no, no, no, no. In two thousand and four, Utah had eliminated the firing squad. There is someone in this audience who is not a fan of the show, doesn't know what's happening. This is fucking wrong. Yeah. Wrong. I'm dizzy. Wright, blame everything on that. This podcast, great. They so Utah was like, maybe we shouldn't. Let's eliminate the firing squad by two thousand and four as a method execution, but convicts who were sentenced before that date are still allowed to have that option if they wanna pick it. Yeah. Okay. So you can like it doesn't. It doesn't retroactively. They're not like they're grandfathered into being shown this. Yeah. I got xactly. You're in charge. You could change that, right? This isn't some weird movie where you have to get shot this way. So just after midnight, five anonymous executioners they're behind a curtain and ported brick wall don't know what that is. Ported work did did one rifle had a blank round, so no one would be like, it was me. You know what I mean? They didn't know he pronounced dead at twelve seventeen AM and after he was executed, the daughter of one of the victims said, I hope my sister who just passed away and my father and all of the other victims are waiting for his sorry ass. I hope they get to go down after him. You'll have to do that. Can you go back and forth? I feel like I feel like we're about to write the new marvel movie. I'll pull you out of hell. Something like that. We're going to go down after they're going to be. And they're gonna beat him up in. There'd be like, we're hanging out in heaven. It's great up here. Let's to fucking quick to this is my lamp get to go back up on those. Bucket out. Just gonna kick. Some assholes asks really quick. Yeah, and then we get end up staying. I'm not staying here. I was. Chairs tavern my okay, Sam Malone's in the balcony so cited and that his moustache. So they go to rob the place right. Sam alone. He had a Mazda. Are you thinking of using Clave and the mailman. Yeah, he had went to girl. Don't do this where where we? All right. Well, let's stop laughing because he's fucked up on coke. He goes to rob cheers tavern, and he ends up shooting the bartender Melvin John autre Strom in the face, killing him in Ronnie makes off with less than one hundred fucking dollars to. Then Ronnie goes to fuck in Melvin, John otter shrooms funeral and pretends to be a childhood friend. What's what a deck like that to me is is like crosses the line between like, you're fucked up and shot someone and you suck. But like it's just so creepy. It's no, that's super creepy. Says he also how is that the same guy that puts the wallet back in the fuck and mailbox and it's like, sorry for your trouble. No, I don't know. That's wow. Here's a photo of of where to go. Oh, that's not the right page. Like basically he went to. This goes funeral end like mingled enough so that he was telling people when he was. Yes. This is Melvyn John otter stream. Boop. Canyons and then okay. So. Okay, three weeks later running gets captured at the home of his cousin. And once he's captured Ronnie says that the shooting occurred because auto shrimp had a fight, but investigators didn't find any evidence to support that, which I'm like, it's still your fucking like, yeah, and if you put up a fight for his fucking life on coke, you don't know what's fucking going trip like every you're no. Ronnie's held in custody his getaway driver testifies against him. So during the trial for this murder on April second nineteen eighty five at the metropolis metropolis politics. That's right. Fuck you. Got it though. Of their term there. Oh, because it looks like metropolis and then a change. You know what I mean? Like. Not. It's metropolitan. Do you know the metropolis. You know that word I've known thirty seven years. I've been on this planet that I just didn't see metropolitan of Justice and Salt Lake City. So Ronnie gets a smug, someone smuggled him fucking revolver, real Volver. Yes, revolver at his trial and Ronnie attempts to escape he can has this guy who did it will we'll get okay. Okay. He he's, he has his gun. He's immediately shot in the chest by guard the guard. Luther Hensley. He continues on his buck and escape with knocking gunshot Linda. The chest was he's still on coke. Probably. He wounded an unarmed bailiff named George Nick Kirk by shooting him in the abdomen, and then ran into the courtroom archives where attorneys rob macrey, and Michael Dell are so third, just like in the fucking archives being like, boop boop going. Like we li- law lets some old one, the sewer we can find about this. This these stories are incredibly memorize every fucking word. Yeah. Like we don't even. We're not even on trial today. We're just loving law. So garner Ronnie comes in points. The gun at them in the aims at Bir dole who'd been he was there looking shit for his pro Bono work for his church. So like you couldn't be there for like a more honest reasons and Ronnie, shoots him in the eye and then runs outside of the building where he surrounded by dozens of police officer officers. Police saw a nurse. A good one. We softeners. It's like, like, we'll I for cops. He drops the gun in yells, don't shoot. I don't have a gun, but I'm like the fucking people. You just shot? Yeah, that's right. You know what I mean? Sorry, this might be a dumb question. The guy that he shot in the eye, you just keep jumping ahead. Okay. No, no more. No more from me. He dies. Sorry. But the bailiffs Nick Kirk survives. Okay. However, he dies eleven years later, and it's says, it's from complications from the gunshot went, which I'm like, yeah, you get shot in the gut your Russ, you're fucking life. So I think Kim, Ron Ronnie? Yes, for sure. During a search of the courthouse, then they find a bag of men's clothing and the basement under a women's restroom sink. So someone had come in stashed clothing for his getaway, a woman of woman. And then it's believed that the gun had been taped to a water fountain on the first floor and then pass to Ronnie as he was escorted into the courthouse in underground parking garage. So they find they find the, they find his girlfriend. Darcy. Unarmed and arrested about a mile away and her sister karma karma. That's what it says. She. She sentenced to eight years in prison for delivering the clothes and message in preparation for the escape, but they don't know who actually gave him the gun. So she's got like prison. Okay, karma she gets this. This girlfriend sister goes to prison. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, that's bullshit. Right. So. Let's see here.
