I'm like, and I know they just had prosecuted afia siddiqui for disarming and shooting a military member in I believe Africa. So they say, wow, this would be great. Can we determine if any wires did money come through New York? Did he purchase any of the parts from within the southern district? We'll take it. They literally were willing to charge the guy in New York, right? But in Arizona they would charge him. So anyway, long story short. Time meeting. We're meeting. We're meeting U.S. attorney's office in New York determinants. There's no venue there. We can't get an indictment. Baptiste king red disappears. So we later learned that he just because now he knew we were on to him, which was something I'm afraid of. He just changed his ways. He was still doing what he was doing. So we continued to get enough information. Thank God that we were finally able to let the Mexicans hit them. And when new Mexicans hit his house in mazatlan, which was another whole story because the mazatlan police tried to run the ATF personnel who were down there Murphy now it goes. When you're down here, you're not, you have no power. So our people are down there saying, hey, that's the house. That's all they can really do. The PGR is getting ready to hit the house. The mazatlan police kangaroos father in law comes with his team to try to usher these people off to scare him off. They dig in. My friend Carlos cannito, who's with me, calls the Mexican attorney general. They then send like more reinforcements over. They hit the place. And John baptiste kangaroo had on hand. So we're told, well, at case, by Emory Hurley, that case has no jury appeal. But let's continue to work it. So we work it. So anyway, this guy sounds like a freaking expert on everything. When the hell did jury appeal come into making the decision whether you charge a violator of the law or not? Right. But so this to this. So how much more I can listen to before I just get a bad out and I just start beating a shit out of a desk or something go, what the hell? Yeah. Well, anyway, and that's believe me. I live this man. "There are all these bones and kingery is in moniac hanging around here who like, if one of them could click, that would really help quite a lot. And I know people are maybe excited about Mickey moniak, spring. He has a 1285 OPS in spring training, which is fun, although I will note that he also had 1000 plus OPS in spring trading in each of the past two years in fewer at bats, but that's something that has happened. So rookies, I mean, we mentioned start rate and is not veering rookie eligible. I don't remember how Ricky eligibility works. But he's around as well. Hey Matt feeling is ruche eligible. You like either of them or anyone else? Yeah, I mean, I think it having just mentioned bomb like it was interesting that that was a bit of a positional battle, but I think as Meg said, I think it's pretty likely we see get some time at short and yeah, it's exciting that he will be on the roster for opening day and I think that one should be went to watch out for. All right, well that's the Phillies. There's definitely a lot of reasons to watch this team. It should be frustrating at times and fun at other times. So I'm definitely looking forward to this Philly season. It will be unlike any other season that we will see this year, I think. So that brings us to the Marlins. They were also active. There are a lot of active teams in this division this winter. Do you have a favorite or best Marlins move? So looking like big picture long-term, I think it's hard not to pick extending a sandy Alcantara because that's I think a really good step toward blocking down this young rotation core, which is very exciting and fun to watch. But I also really liked picking up Jacob stallings at catcher to talking about how good this rotation can be in, especially a young rotation, having him there to manage his staff, I think, is really exciting. And so that one, I think, might be my favorite. Yeah, that's a good pick. By the way, I should mention that the Phillies have kind of overhauled their player development department. So maybe things will get better there as Nebraska said, we need to be better at getting players over the hump and producing good players from within the system. I agree, Dave, the Philly's definitely need to be better at that. All right, back to the so the strength, I guess the strength is probably what we've always talked about with the steam right the young pitcher. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's hard not to, yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of it. It's fun. I mean, there are pictures on the staff who have already been great. Like, I'll counter and Rogers. I mean, people have projected our counter to make even greater strides I've seen according to stat cast. I noticed this because my colleague Zach kram pointed it out the other day. But Alcantara had the worst framing support of any pitcher. He had the most runs last two framing according to baseball savant last season. So with Stalin's hopefully that will not be the case, even though maybe stylings is a more elite blocker than a framer, hopefully that'll get a little bit better for him. But Trevor Rogers has already really good bubble Lopez. Eleazar Hernandez, they're so many guys here. Jesus, I guess the question. I don't know whether we're stepping on any breakout picks or anything here, but that's definitely one of the storylines of the season. How much will you get out of him? Yeah. And obviously 6 do Sanchez who does not seem to be close to returning from his shoulder surgery. So I just, I have no idea what to expect out of him if anything or when, but there are so many good pictures here that they've already traded a little bit from that depth, but they could continue to if they want to supplement the lineup still. Yeah. Yeah, I can't wait to see what this player does group can do with lizard, which isn't to say that like, you know, Oakland's not like bad at that, but I think that there's just the opportunity here for him to take a step forward with the combination of what they're up to and good health and yeah, and if 6 or 6 inches can ever figure out a better fastball shape like look at. Weakness? I appreciate that they try to fix the lineup some Jorge soler. They tried. You can't say they didn't do anything. They did that do enough for dirt cheaters taste seemingly. Yeah, weird. Because what we're saying, this rotation could be so, so, so good. And it's like if you could just do a little more here to give me confidence that you could at least consistently be a average ish offense. I would feel so excited to watch this you and instead you haven't quite done that. I think it admirable job of trying with what seemed like it was not very much to work with. Financially, but yeah. Yeah. Garcia, obviously Garcia is a good player in Jorge soler. I have no idea whether he's like the very not good player or the very good player who he was like within last season. I don't know exactly what to make of him and Stalin's obviously helps you a lot. Defensively at the very least. So it is an improvement, but yeah, they were linked to Castellanos and Marte, who, of course, was a Marlin in the not too distant past. And someone like that, I mean, yeah, it seems like they could use a real Big Bopper, but I believe in aspects of the lineup, I guess. Is there a breakout pick either on the offensive side or just yet another pitcher who could take a step forward for you? I think luzardo is such a good pick because I really do think that, you know, working with this staff, I would be really excited to see what we get from him if he can kind of fit in with the rest of this rotation. But other than that, you know, this steps on a rookie, but I'm talking about this lineup and what we might see. Can you curious to see what Jesus Sanchez does in the outfield? He does have some power that is other always missing from this lineup and I would like to see maybe we can get something from him there. But yeah, breakout wise, you know, I feel like it's hard because pitching staff is already so good other than luzardo that you can't really point to much there. And then the lineup is what we've discussed it is. So is it too late to predict well, I don't know if I'm predicting, but to hope for a jazz Chisholm break out sort of for him to elevate past what he did last year, which wasn't bad, but was not like, you know, he was a below league average header and the defense was only so, so. So maybe we could give some hope to just hold my suppose? Yeah, I think so. He's one of those players who in my head because he is so much fun to watch even if he hasn't like fully put it together that he has already transcended it in my head. Even though you're right, he was not a leak average hitter, even though he felt like one to me. Right. But very much felt like one. And so that's a great point. This close. Yeah, it was close. But not quite there. Yeah, no. His highlights are as exciting as anyone. And I guess it sounds like a cliche, but consistency that's kind of important for him, but also plate discipline and strikeout to walk ratio. He struck out close to 30% of the time last year and walked less than 7% of the time. So that's an issue, but he does have speed and power and it definitely wouldn't surprise me to see him make a step forward. He's only 24, so yeah, I could see it. And I'm with you on Sanchez as well. I could see him having a 30 Homer season. He hit 14 and 251 plate appearances last year. So clearly has a lot of power. So yeah, there's that..

"Of my family And yesterday for like a split second when they released the trailer for the movie and my daughter was like wow mom my son was like wow bro. I was like okay. I'm gonna let me saw feel proud for like two seconds and not worried that if i feel proud you know god's gonna punish me i hear you. I remember the first time i felt proud. I was in camp. It was between second and third grade. It was the year before or half year before the black years really. And i remember walking to the lake and thinking i'm going into third grade. I am so proud of myself and i remember that feeling like it was palpable. Like i could feel the feeling in my hands right now of what that carried in me. Third grade is Things got murky for me around third grade. Yeah you wrote that. It was around this time that you began suffering from depression and stated that it was as if god came down around. You like sluggish sadness. Jefferson's of wyatt began at that particular time. yes in. In retrospect i do. How did you cope. How did you cope with your depression at that time. Did your parents realize something was wrong and try to get your lights. I didn't realize that that was it was. It was only when i finally began taking antidepressant medication when my son was around a year and a half. An everything did go. It was all those cliches from like black and white to technicolor. And then i started realizing oh things used to look like this like i remember in second grade things looking like this just now even in my like left i could see the color green on trees like looking out of miss pages window like and then something just changed and i didn't know that it changed until i could see again. You know If you need the medication it just basically gives you a trampoline so like when you're in freefall you know that you're not going to crash and what that does is it gives you the ability to feel it gives you the ability to hear a song and cry and it gives you the ability to see something beautiful and not be completely crushed by by it. people be like well. You know you won't get anything creative done if you take an antidepressant end you know. You're not gonna. You'll lose your libido and and i was just like i don't know anybody like when i was my most depressed like i wasn't getting anything done in the last thing like i was really into is like hey let's you know kingery odyssey. You know the way. I was able to understand what happened was only when i got color back again and then when i went off of medication when i was pregnant with my daughter and everything went that dark that quickly knowing the difference that next to each other. That was very hard because i. I knew that this wasn't right like it wasn't supposed to feel like this because i didn't have to go from third grade to then i had to go from three weeks before till you know and in The book and in the movie. The moment where i really break without character is that When i gave birth to my daughter after nine months of lake praying to the zoloft container. Like when i was going to like. I took it to the fucking hospital with my shit Then i held her in my arms and she was such a good little breastfeed her and i just thought no like. I've done this for so long like i did this for these nine months and i did these for these you know. However countless years like why should she have to pay a price for my weakness. Because you know it's still a weakness strengthening and so for like five days or seven days. I didn't take the medication i mean. I didn't. i didn't exactly lie about it because no one would have thought that i didn't take the medication. 'cause like all i want to do is take the medication and i would just like secretly breastfeed her because i thought like okay. Well if i give her six weeks. I think that's what it was six weeks. Just peeking through six. Maybe she'll have all the nutrients you know that she needs. But then like around five days and i realized oh i'm about to hit a wall That's when i then called brian and He said when you come home. I have to take this. Hasn't and you have to check under my tongue. 'cause i was like the is this moment where i was not sure if i could trust myself to actually really swallowed it because so strong with this idea of being week versus being strong and being a good mom versus being a bad mom and i was sure that if i didn't breastfeed her i was at bad mom and took me a really long time not to feel guilty about that. It's so interesting hearing these real life experiences that you've had having read too much of your work and now sort of realizing that i smile back and mouth full of air or almost is if you had made different decisions and what the consequences of those decisions would be. I realized when i finished hesitation wounds. Which is my most hopeful book. My son was graduating high school. It was like right around like that week. Like you know your subconscious is so fucking strong and The protagonists in that book cheats Treatment resistant depression and her brother had killed himself and she realizes like in the course of the book that she had never really allowed herself to fully engage because of this cheap. She was protecting herself at the end. The whole entire book balances on this moment of her daughter which she adopted saying to her to stick out her tongue to taste the snow. Her daughter's like a little girl from cambodia and never seen snow before and the moment of the mother saying. Should i stick out my that. The hesitation in that you know in do you stick out your tongue and engage in life and feel the sumo against your tongue and the joy of that and It took me like seven years or eight years. Till i realized you can't balance it entire book on a split second like that but it also took me that time to realize. Oh you're writing a book about finally allowing yourself permission to be okay and to be happy. And so that's when i realized looking back like oh a mouthful of their. You're writing the fear of what if you didn't get the help you need it. But i had no idea. Like i thought i was just reading about this character and In ice mall back. I was reading through the fear of like what if i worked so hard to build this little family that i love but inside of me. I'm a very bad person. And i'm like you know my father and i destroy the people that i love and that has nothing to do with even anything sexual just like some people. Just destroy the people that they love almost preemptive strike. Like if i can hurt you before you hurt me you know and then i wrote hesitation once and Now my son is twenty five. Almost twenty six and my daughter is twenty one and i was with them yesterday and i thought like look at that like you didn't ruin them. I'm always surprised still that somehow. They're so beautiful. Well i think that has led to do with you. Actually the opposite that the product of good parenting i and it was very important to me to have a steady home for them. Like i always want to have a kitchen table where they can do their homework. Like it sounds so silly but like they come home and have a snack and do their homework and i was always so grateful that they could have that that they weren't distracted by chaos and craziness. I wanna go back in time. A little bit right before you you begin to writing professionally and i've been researching various childhood responses to trauma in an effort to understand how there seems to be really almost polar opposite directions. People tend to go when they're depressed. Traumatized abused some people worked over achieve in an effort to prove to themselves that they're not as worthless as they feel and other people. Just give up because they know they have no hope they feel. No hope you're really the former rather than the ladder despite your your struggles at the time you accepted to an ivy league college you got your undergraduate degree from the university of pennsylvania very very competitive school. What did you major in at the time. What did you think you want to do professionally. At that point. I wanted to be a sociology. Major.

"Min, the author of Game 1 63, the story of the Rockies playing game and rocked over the 2007 season. One of the things that I loved about the book, Danny was Getting, and it's so often happens in games like this. Yes, The big names were certainly a part of this, but it's the Jamey Carroll's and some of the others who Played such big roles in the game that you don't think about as much and One of my favorite Rockies, you know? And what a remarkable year for Colorado four Josh Fogg in 2007. You know, the Dragon Slayer and all those things you know he'll live in Rocky's Lord because of it. Um, how did it come about for a number of these guys who are out of the game that you were able to connect and get them to talk about it? Well, you mentioned Jerry Jamey Carroll. That was one of my first interviews and it was one of my best. I could not believe what he was telling me about that lasted bat. And I think it's one of the highlights of the book, Josh Fogg. I wanted to find fog and my my approach to all of these guys was I don't know how to reach them. I'm going to start by googling them or whatever. And I found that fog had I couldn't. He couldn't get an email or anything for him, but he had a linked in Account. Well, I don't have one. But our daughter does. And I telling her and she says, Well, you know, Dad, you can send a message through link done. You want me to do that? I said, Yeah, I'll write one for you. So she sends Josh Fogg a message through Lincoln Now Fog is retired. You know, he went why he is linked in account. I have no idea. So she sends him my message through linked in Within an hour. I have an email from Josh Fogg. It love to talk to you. So that's how I got Josh Fogg. Um, and it was just one of those. I got Carol through. Um, the sports media guy with the pirates. Well, one of the central figures in this game and for me so interesting because Jeff Kingery and I were alternating The play by play in the extra innings in the other guy was down behind the screen at home plate with where the wireless microphone for what would happen as the game ends. And so in that final play is Matt Holliday face plants in the home plate and Michael Barrett, the Padres catcher. And, of course umpire Tim McClelland and Denny I will tell you because I saw the ball go out of bear. It's glove. I was actually going through the gate. As Tim was doing his almost in slow motion safe call. How did Tim McClelland fit into your research and writing of the book? Well, yeah, I wanted I wanted to talk to him, obviously about the play at the plate, but When? When Tim retired, he told the Des Moines Register. I'm leaving baseball behind. I don't want to talk about anything. And so I couldn't. I tried everything to track him down. Finally got a phone number for his daughter, and it's a long story. How I got it, but I got it and s O I left a message for her, and she didn't answer me and I thought One night, I thought, Well, I'm going to try a text message. Sure enough. She answers me in the text message. So we start corresponding and I tell her what I want. I want Dr Dead and she writes back very politely. That Dad's really not doing any interviews anymore, And I said, Well, if I send you the questions Would you give them to him? And maybe he'll answer me, she said. Sure. So I do she writes back. Dad says he doesn't want to talk. Finally. Okay, well, I'm a friend of mine who is really into cars. His wife died a while ago. And so As a widow, or he decided he'd get a Tesla. We're driving down 25. All of a sudden I feel my phone vibrates in my pocket. I answer it. Jenny Tim McClellan, How do you get my daughter's phone number? And I said, Why understand that Tim and I I respect that, I said, But do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions, and I just said, I support that. That's a lot of that's a long time to be behind the plate beyond your feet, and he said something I said, except to say that the most pitches you ever called and he says, Oh, no, he says. I am my first year and in the big leagues. I am part in 18 inning game between the Yankees, the Tigers well, that was great that that's better than that's better than asking him. If he thought holiday was safe, he obviously thought all they would say. So I got a little bit out of him anyway. But it was just it was fun toe, you know, catch a guy like that? And then I'll have a game Sunday prior to our Sunday night game with the Phillies vets. But it's it's cool in the scene here. You'll be here soon BUSTER, but it's it's, it's pretty special.
