"As an adult here and everywhere I lived. It's like, Well, No, you're not Spanish. What do you mean? I think I'm the one who can tell me what I am and where I'm from. Um, and it's a constant internal conflict who you are, where you stand. What does your identity mean to you and how you use that and apply that in a way that's positive, instead of destructive and not really succumb to anger because there is a lot. I think that's a very easy route to just be angry at people telling you Who you are. Absolutely, I mean, for example, is, um, it he actually has a track has spoken word track called Where you really from where you from, and it's I think it says, where you really from in the track quite a few times, and it's very powerful because it's about his frustration with being perceived in a certain way and trying to break out of that perception. Listen. Will you talk to us now about journeys? Because again, it's about immigration. It's a massive theme. How do you focus a festival like this? How is it going to work? Will journeys is really coming from the fact that this is the 150th anniversary of the rollout who and also about looking back on 150 years of immigration and celebrating those years, but also the immigrants or people who have actually performed at the roll up, or, for example, Albert Einstein talks in 1933 about about immigration and refugees. So really, this is standing on the shoulders of those great giants, who actually performed there in the past. And we have amazing artists who appearing during the course of the week. So how do you choose the artist to invite? Is it solely based on the fact that they're from diverse backgrounds or do you want to create a particular sound? I think it's very much about finding people. Who have strong feelings about immigration, probably because I think politically there's been a lot of demonization of immigrants across the world, you know, certainly in America and in the UK, I think there has been a political movement towards towards making immigrants feel. Unwelcome and particularly refugees and asylum seekers and making it appear that those people are in some way parasitic and so really, This is a very important festival for me in that we're looking to celebrate the contribution not just economically but also culturally to the UK and to really focus on that. Nathan, You have been commissioned to write a piece for this celebration and oratorio? Yes. Will you explain that for us, So in oratory really is it has all Castro elements and it has coral elements as well. And I'm currently writing actually. So, So I've got a string quintet, but I'll also be expanding out those sounds in different ways with my band and some guests performance as well. So I'm very excited about doing that You have performed at the Royal Albert Hall, as we say in Hindi Hajar times, which would mean thousands. So that's a gross exaggeration. Why is it such a special venue for you? It's circular for start well, the design of it. The architecture of it is incredible and quite all inspiring. I think the role of already engenders a sense of occasion. Like no other venue. I've played in just the electricity that is generated between the audience and the performers and to stand on that stage and share that stage across time. With so many incredible performances, such a privilege. Thank you so much. Nathan. Sony Senate Concert Journeys, 100 and 50. Years of immigration is at the Royal Albert Hall on October the 29th. If you are in London, you can go And if you want to find out more about the festival, either following Nathan on any form of his social media or head to the Royal Albert Hall website, and it is also touring his immigrants album throughout 2022. Anna, what would be your top picks if you were curating a film festival with the theme of immigration? Well, I am an immigrant. I've been an immigrant, my entire life, and it's something that I was really from the title of my memoir, Nicky. I'm always looking for those themes and films that I watch. And sometimes they are kind of hidden in plain sight, And sometimes it's the very overt theme of the film. There's a wolf of them. They go from the very family friendly Paddington. I think it's a wonderful thing about film about immigration 100% to kind of very dramatic, um, social dramas like Stephen Frears Dirty Pretty Things starring Audrey Tattoo and Chipotle before in from the early two thousands. That film is Um, two things like a Fassbender's fear. It's the soul, which is a film for the 19 seventies. And obviously it's about a black immigrant in Germany in the seventies at the time, so completely different contexts. And I think you can find a negative truth of the immigrant experience and a lot of different films. Even in shows like Michaela calls. You may destroy me. There are things there that are, you know, particular. Breast strokes. They're really color in Canadian heritage comes into completely and obviously that's not my direct experience. But there are things that I think anyone who has been an immigrant or he is an immigrant. Can recognize outcome. Thank you both. Finally, on today's arts, our for me and number. Welcome to Blackboard Jungle, So don't you from below, Just be humble. At the beginning of Blackboard Jungle attract from what some say was the first ever dub album released in Jamaica in 1974 by the upset and produced by two of the names in the late Great Lee Scratch Perry and King Tubby. Dub grew out of reggae in the 19 sixties and seventies, stripping the vocal out of existing songs and remixing them as instrumentals. In fact, King Tubby has been described as the pioneer of the remix. So what has he got to do with.

Got you inspired. Yeah, man, there's a band from England called Steel Pulse there like a pretty well-known reggae band and reggae circles. They were actually Bob Marley's favorite bands. Oh, that's awful lot about them. Right? Yeah. So like Steel Pulse is definitely a big influence and then like like I came up like listening to a lot of hip hop as a kid. So when I found her edgy, like I found dancehall and like our page like Buju Banton and Beenie Man and that kind of thing that like kind of influence the thing too and those guys like aren't afraid to like kind of tie-in like the electronics and the drum machines and all that kind of stuff too. And so like I feel like that's that's kind of part of our journey as well, you know, like cuz I came up on that leg Raga breakbeat kind of thing. You're interested to Augusta small kind of sound. Yeah, this is Bob or like King tubby that all the way to that dub sound 100% man. Yeah, man Professor King tubby Lee Perry that whole thing for sure man, cuz that smoking music off.
