"Of people in their 60s in palo Alta, California were awakened in the middle of the night by a burglar in their house. He was a 17 year old guy, and he cut through a screen to get into their house, and the reason he woke up the couple was he was out of data and he wanted their Wi-Fi password. The couple called the police and they chased them out of the house, police caught him a few minutes later, and they connected him to another burglary, the night before, where he also asked the people in the house if he could hop on their Wi-Fi. What has happened to our criminals that they'll break into our house now and just steal Wi-Fi. This is the area of crime, I fear my children may. May follow. They're about that age. Seriously. Today's more on of the day is the most Florida man story in the history of Florida man story. Guy goes into a convenience store in Jacksonville to buy some beer. And he's carrying an alligator under one arm. No. And we have a 32nd security video of the guy with the live alligator. I was gonna say he's live. Tucked under his arm as he walks into the convenience store. Runs up and down the aisles till the finds the beer is looking for, and at one point he says, y'all are not a beer, are you? And then he says to another fellow customer, team taking that last bit of beer, you ain't taking the last bit of beer, are you? Local wildlife authorities in Florida say they are investigating the incident. Because you're not supposed to, well, if you had any sense, you wouldn't. So he was going to pay for the beer. He wasn't using the alligator as weapon. He was just walking around with an alligator. If you have any sense, you don't take an alligator and shop with it. Yeah. And Florida fishing game would rather you didn't touch or bother the alligators at all. I was mentioning that I'm fascinated by some names. Here's another example to 47 year old guy in storm Lake Iowa is facing harassment charges after he told a bunch of kids he was going to eat them earlier this month. I'm not going to give you his name right away. He walked up to a group of kids and he said he wanted to season them with a bag of salt and then eat them. And then he chased them into an apartment complex. He made similar threats to a woman with her one year old baby. Police arrested him, they think alcohol was a factor, and his name is full legal name is King Kong chul. That's right, his parents named him King Kong King Kong. And he wants to eat your baby. Yep. You can't make this stuff up. Why would you name your why would you? Why would you do that? Can you imagine what King Kong went through when he was going through school? And you have to stand up. All right, Tommy. Elizabeth, King Kong. I'm thinking all that salt on a human. That's a lot of sodium. That's true. Taken Kong, we're talking hypertension, mister. Okay. I just love it. And I don't want to eat about half of the foods that he does. I don't know that show. He's on the travel channel and you would love this show, bob. Interesting goes to places and he eats the local food. Oh, I have seen a little bit of that. And some of it is really delicious looking. Like I watched an episode last night in Puerto Rico and I wanted to eat three of everything. And sometimes it's like, ew. Really weird. I don't want to eat that. I don't care how good you say it is. So I saw this thing in Business Insider, which I look at occasionally and learned nothing from about street food from around the world, tell me if you would eat some of this stuff. Okay, this is a really popular street food in Mexico. It's called Dori locos, and it's a bag of Nacho cheese Doritos topped with pork rinds, hot sauce, gummy bears, cucumber, carrots, peanuts, lime, and chili. Except for the gummy bears, I'd give that a shot. Yeah. You lost me at the gummy bears. I know. I can't understand why they would add it. Would they melt? Do you think with the heat? Well, I don't think they heat it. They don't heat it. No, I think they just put it all in the bag and shake it and eat it. I guess some people like that combination of sweet and hot and salty. Yeah. But the gummy bears. No, it doesn't do it. What's the next one? How about in Beijing? Fried scorpions. And they say that they're crunchy and salty, like you know how some kettle cooked potato chips are extra thick and crunchy and they fight you back a little harder. Right. I could do it. I wouldn't get sick, but it doesn't have any appeal. How about if you don't like the fried scorpions in Beijing China, what about fried spiders in Cambodia? No, it's the same thing. Now this is complete dose and it's from Chile. It's a hot dog, okay? So a hot dog's good. We all like a hot dog every now and again. But in order for it to be a complete toast, it's a hot dog with ketchup, mashed avocado, and a big scoop of mayonnaise. No, no. I'd rather eat the spiders. Yes, totally. The spiders and the scorpions. I think this next one, I think you would eat this. It's called biltong. It's from South Africa. It's like jerky, but it's not beef jerky the way we're used to beef jerky, it's springbok or wildebeest or ostrich. It's very, it has a very distinctive spice flavor from the spices they cure it with, and a very, very dry texture. I can't see myself saying, but that's some good wildebeest. What does it taste like? That? You would try it? Yeah, yeah. I would throw up over it. The hot dog is the only disgusting disgusting thing I've heard so far. With Mayo and Mayo and I told that, that's a mess. I would love to try this next thing and you'll see it like in Istanbul in turkey. And I'm probably going to butcher the pronunciation, so I apologize to the Turkish community. And you'll see people and they're at an ice cream cart. What you would think was like the good humor guy, right? Yeah. And they're stirring and they're pulling this gelatinous stretchy substance that looks a little bit like dough, but it's not dough. It's ice cream. And they put this resin in it called mastic and an ingredient called solid, which is the powdered bulb of wild orchids, and it makes the ice cream gelatinous and rubbery, and they stretch it and knead it and fold it and stretch it like bread dough, and then they slice it. And when you bite into it, it's ice cream. Awful lot of hands working that. Well, they're clean hands though. Well, we don't know that though. I'm just telling you, where is this salt? Turkey. It's all the off the streets of turkey. Like in Istanbul. I take it back. What could be cleaner? And sanitizer everywhere. And if you're a Turkish person, don't please don't write me because, you know, from these people here, when I talk about eating a hot dog off the streets of New York, how can you do that? That's disgusting. Street food, it's a gamble. Let's just face it, right? I have thought so much about this solid Don derma and what the texture must be. I'd like to try it. And what it must look like and it never once occurred to me. Somebody hands touching it. Well, you're talking about the kneading

"She's just kind of like if the her first character is great. But it's not very immediate kind of is kind of a stupid character but then you say oh you get to be these two other characters and you're doing a different thing. She is having a fucking blast on this movie. I don't know how tom hanks feels about this movie. Is i'm watching it. Who anybody else feels. She's having a better time than anybody else. Because she's just like i mean. She just can heightened anything. It's snl level like she's doing characters and they're really washable like really the stand the just they're edging in other words they're edging so they're not beyond the edge where they become just too much for your spent ashley just just just right there and very loud and very fun. I think that's true for almost the whole cast. Not just meg ryan like all of the actors in the cellar making some pretty big character. Choices like Amanda plumber's character dagmar on the boat. Some weird kind of russian thing. I don't know what or the Nathan lane as the the tribal chieftain. Guy that yeah. That's interesting and yeah that's that's the. That's the probably the reason people might rightfully get upset with this. Movie is the ending right. Because here's my second problem. Well here's my second problem with the movie. Except for meg ryan playing three different characters. Reason in my mind in my mind you know. Tell me i'm wrong. i'm wrong so i don't. It's not joe versus the volcano right. Something else this movie. Which can all. I love here. Your takes on how about a man finding who he is and accepting life and instead of leaving the delie like totally get it like. We're all you know our mushrooms. Now we know what we're talking about but it's like nod the movie. Though versus joe versus the volcano. He's barely at the volcano barely. And you can draw me. That's the reason that's a good thing. But i'm like no i think at least admit point. He should have been the volcano. God delivers verse king. Kong king column shows up in the last five minutes. You're you're pissed. That's that's what i felt like. That's what i felt like. I'm like you worry more. The movie you wanted this is not that. Just don't name a jewish no which is a great name but it just doesn't is we'll Joe's voyage voyage french. The french do. But you know what i mean. "98 97 3 All are welcome. One is chosen become letter of the day. Finally, they decided they're going to do this. I think this is probably Long overdue, Tom Really? It's torture. Yes, I've always I don't feel that. I'm kidding. It's a lobster was going to say you come along the way, Lobster? No, you You get the drawn butter. You put that near it. You let it know. And then you just drop it in the bucket, but apparently in the U. K has now boiling lobsters alive. Is going to be banned under the proposed government plans in the U. K. Yes, it's a new. It's so it's just proposed. It hasn't passed yet. But there's this new animal welfare law proposal. They already do that for anything with a vertebrate. So anything with the backbone. Uh, you can't you know, torture them. Those are laws. And now, uh, New science apparently has established that Crustaceans, things like lobsters, crabs, octopus squid that they do feel pain and because of that, boiling them ally, which is how most people uh cook. Uh, these kinds of animals that's now considered inhumane, so to speak, and they are considering that proposal. Now, I I understand that there's a fine tradition and no one's saying we shouldn't eat lobster or crab or anything else, which might be the ultimate uh, you know, Acknowledgement of animal welfare. Hey, don't worry, buddy. We're going to kill you, but we're not going to kill you painfully. So there's a little hypocrisy there. But right now there's a movement afoot. That seems to be positive, and I I feel I feel this way. I would have no problem if the government and in our country decided that's not the way to do it. So you know, I have a We have this kind of a falling apart. Cabin up in would be Alan. And occasionally we have friends who, you know, catch cat crabs, and they give us you know, a couple of crabs. Remember this. Our neighbor came over and gave me a couple of crabs. You know, Sitting in the party's a. You can cook that and that was the only one of the cabin at the time. I said, you know, I'm not sure I really want to go to the trouble. He came over a couple hours later wanted to see how it turned out to go. I hadn't even done he's all you gotta do. And so he sort of forced my hand. So I had to put this big boiling pot and I put the poor crabs. And they started crawling up the side of that shouldn't go. Oh, my God. I love the taste of crab meat. But having to witness how that crab me, you know, became meat for for consumption was so disturbing. I feel like yeah, That's now that I know if there's really sciences that indicates, and they do feel pain that's horrible. There are other ways to kill lobster crab or anything either like and it's um you know, more humane and I'm guess I'm for it. If if the lobster meat is somehow affected by the boiling of it like it releases something, and then it's not as fresh or tender. I know that's the case, sometimes with venison and other things like that, that if if the thing is meant to suffer Then it releases endorphins and or something else into the system and then therefore has affected the taste is affected. I would just I don't. I haven't done any research on it, but I just know I know you drop them in and you can hear them kind of clicking around. He says it It doesn't shock them to the point They're like that's really hot. Doesn't kill him right away. They are suffering. Then you have to, like hit them over the head. Is that what they're saying to you in the UK? You put them on their couples. There were some, You know Proposals. One was sedating the lobster with substance like marijuana That would reduce the pain. But they said, But they did, They said they did test they didn't have any effect. So right now the most effective way, they say. Stunning them with an electric device or freezing them in cold air before boiling. Uh huh. So I guess yes. I mean, if they're somehow not conscious that that might, you know, indeed be the way to go about it Also ex Don't you feel how about you Don't feel the same way you pull a fish out of the water. Having only gone fishing a couple times you pull the fish out the things flapping around on the deck. And then you go over with this glow in the dark plastic thing, And then you whacking it And you, you know, I don't have any fish you've ever caught. You don't hit it the first time and your kung King Kong King it on the head. Keep conch in it on the head like, come on, and then it's I falls out, and there's blood everywhere. Well that fishes and suffering to what? It doesn't feel any pain. Or it's got a big hook in its mouth. And some guys drinking beer like, come on. Really good. I know. Let her run. Let her run. I mean, come on, That's all that's all a bunch of pain. It's all. Yeah, it's all terrible. But there are ways it's just like you. There are ways to, you know, Kill a horse that is less painful than other ways. And so you do. I mean, I think it's noble of as long as humanity can justify the killing of animals to eat rather than for sport, which I you know. I don't have a problem. It's bigger problem with that is killing them for sport, obviously, but it seems like the most humane way to do it is the way you should kill a lobster for sport. Well, I mean, a lot of it. I mean, a lot of a lot of hunters, you know, they I mean the big game hunters. They do it for the display. They don't You don't shoot an elephant. You know who's out? Well, who's the sport of hunting a lobster? You know, my brother one day admitted to me and that's the only time he's ever told me that he was ever jealous of me. June 30 If we would go to a place called Whole Gates in Ocean City, New Jersey, it had a giant lobster tank out front in the highly air conditioned restaurant as they all work as we would get a wicked sunburn all day. And then when the sun goes down, you're sitting there. My mom is spraying solar cane for sunburn, pain all over us, but the air conditioning has an effect upon your burned soon to be cancerous skin..

Alrighty tom to stop it yes today we are having our special guest. Roy should again. Welcome back roy. You are mainly known for for a missile command being a high score player and having had high scores and stuff and also being a part of King of the kong in a way. And now you are back to talk about other stuff connected. I was driving force behind the king kong. Without roy shield there is no king kong king kong started because i bought steve we that computer board. I just wanted to mention a little thing about steve. We being that computer board but thing is The king kong is is a story about a conflict between billy mitchell. And steve webby. That's but that's just a subset of what the real story is. The real story has nothing to do with with that with that conflict. The real story is roy. You've seen you remember. I gave you the. I sent you a copy of the book I didn't read it yet. It's it's yeah okay. Now in in that book you'll see a copy of page three eighty four from the guinness book of world records. One thousand nine hundred five whereas the first computer athlete inducted into the hall of fame. Remember that page. okay see. I was the first computer athlete and doctors all fame for playing just missile command and billy. Mitchell thought that was unfair because he had five world records. He had miss pacman pacman donkey kong donkey kong junior and burger time. You had to five world records bill. Mitchell thought he was more deserving of me. And i said to billy i i'm more even though i have only one world record. It's a it's a major record. It's difficult record. Your five records put together aren't aren't as good as this one. Missile command record. That was my office basic argument to bill mitchell which upset him greatly. Follow what i'm saying. Yes gay twenty years later. All his records are gone and still have the missile command record right. So i'm actually the last record that he lost was the donkey kong. Steve steve we you know he had that he he did her on a double donkey kong board they. It was nine hundred and forty two thousand up on the twin galaxies website and then and then shortly thereafter i gave some info i spoke to wall today and i said well there you go. I told you bill. Mitchell was wrong. He thought he was more deserving to be in the hall of fame than i was. I can now you can see is wrong because my missile command record is still good. He doesn't have any and when bill mitchell found out about that he went crazy. That's when he went nuts. He couldn't take roy. Show has a missile command score and i don't have any records at all. He just went crazy. He couldn't take it. He took down steve. We found an excuse to take down. Steve donkey kong score and he also found an excuse to take down. Tim zim tim's irby's donkey kong score to make him so he would have at least one world record left. You follow what i'm saying. Because he he's not he had to have a record and something so i found out about what he did and i knew it was b. s. so i called steve. We got got a hold of his email finally spoke to him on the phone. I told them what bill mitchell had done. He's taken down your score because he's a jackass and he just can't stand not having a world record. When my missile command score was still standing. And i told them blah blah blah and steve we just. He didn't really even care at all okay. He said he's laughing at me. Thought i was crazy or something. So i told steve you know you can't let billy get away with this. I said steve. I'll tell you what i'll buy you a donkey kong board but you have to promise to reset the world record to put this idiot. His place he didn't care. If i didn't offer to buy it had nothing to do with. He couldn't afford to buy a board had nothing to do with it. He just couldn't care less and i had to. I had to cajole him into into going for that record by buying him aboard. If i didn't offer to buy him aboard there'd be nothing right now there'd be no donkey kong to be nothing. It's all me. I was the driving force behind the whole thing. Because st we basically didn't have the balls to do it on his own i i had to force him to do it or he didn't really care perhaps he didn't care he didn't care me laugh. I mean may. Maybe it wasn't as important to him but it became more important later on as as when i bought him the board. Now i bought from from a guy. I bordered on my credit card to a guy in utah. All right guy never knew got founded online and the board was sent from from utah directly to steve. We be. I wasn't sent to me i i. I'm the guy who purchased the board so the billing address belongs to me but the shipping address was to steve we be. That's the reason why my name was on the box. When it got to steve we bees house follow him saying yeah. Yeah boss delivered directly to him. Yeah right you go and the guys in utah guy.

That's so true. Because i i read a curious maybe like last year and all that called. The chen paradox in explained like the psychological landscape in interesting way It this what like. I've always been reading psychology books in literature. Algae since i was a teenager so like the concepts weren't nude me but it was explained in such a nicely imagined way that it i think it would make sense for a lot of people especially if they never really that their toes in tron understand the fundamentals of psychology. So it's basically your limbic system is a far is a fucking chimpanzee. Even though you you have like your new cortex is like the human side of you so even though you know something it. It's like you know that smoking is bad for but you know you might be able to stop for x. amount of time but then when you when for whatever reason you had a couple of drinks and and you're with france he sees someone light up a cigarette. "Yeah which is why we get so many awesome death scenes like the entire crew like getting blown off a log and falling to their death was ripe. Peter jackson probably loved it. So yeah. I mean it's really kind of mind blowing even risque elements With the clothing and kind of sexualization that was forced cut later. The film had already been re released king kong several times because it was such an iconic movie so instantly that they they re cut cut all the violence and all the sex and all the un does and things like that and they released it so the kong was already so in the public consciousness. By the time. The godzilla came around. It's kind of amazing that godzilla was like lightning strike. Her struck twice. Yeah there was a movie. They went on to be almost equally as iconic and have such a thumbprint on a culture. That were comes from yemen. So that so yeah. It's kind of amazing that it did follow the formula of king kong and yet somehow become this very singular movie in its own right absolutely and it's kind of amazing really when you think about it really is we're we're lucky to have two characters that that big literally but the big as movies and just awesome. Yeah i recently bought the criterion collection. They all the godzillas together And i watched all of them and there's a lot of value and fun in escapism. In some of those really really bad ones introduced all the great characters. They're now in that lower the other monsters which Godzillas done really well is in like in introduced all these other great characters or villains and stuff like that but yeah nothing really even comes close to that original. Yeah even close yeah. It's so true. What do you got for your next piece. So i will go with jurassic park nice as my other kind of obvious one. But the thing is so these guys like this spielberg's burg's george lucas's of the world. And even the peter jackson's of the world they these guys are always like king kong king kong king kong as like some of their favorites. Yes and I think what king kong did. That was so special and one of the reasons why even like it kind of is cross platform. All movie nerds. it's not just like the. The action aficionados the adventure picture people. But it's also like film. Historians film critics is yes the kind of revolutionary aspect of its stop motion special effects work which is significant but it's also about the spectacle.

Yes, you know, like my first experience with him was in, um, platoon, right, and he played the good sergeant or whatever, in the in the platoon, where he was getting stoned all the time. And then he had that scene where they're all getting away in the helicopter, and they're shooting him up, and he's doing his arms wailing on the are in the air. I mean, that's how I know him well. Okay, Here's what they say in a Time magazine article about the same thing. Thanksgiving movies. While this is what it says. While the big chill is not explicitly a Thanksgiving movie, it has many of the holidays themed gathering with loved ones. The explosion of simmering disagreements preparing and sharing a meal together. So The gathering after the funeral. I don't think was Thanksgiving. It doesn't count. No, no, no, because But then it says this and a nostalgic flashback scene. That takes place during a Thanksgiving past s. Oh, there is Thanksgiving, but it was a flashback scene in the big Chill. That's where you're getting the Thanksgiving for. Okay. Kind of tangentially. It Z Thanksgiving, but not really. Oh, it ends up on every list that I could find. Okay, calling you to Thanksgiving movie? Yeah, And you know what I'll say. Say what Rocky is a Thanksgiving move. Well, they do have the Thanksgiving scene. See? It's what Paulie throws the turkey. Yes. No, wait. I thought Adrian Thursday Turkey, doesn't she get upset? It's probably for the turkey. Yeah, and tells her to go get out of the house familiar, at least to romance after Agent Oh, no, You're right. You're right. Paulie tosses the turkey and then that's when he takes her out to the ice Skating rink. Yeah, Yeah, it's a sports movies. It's a boxing movie 1 802 831 on 1.5. Is there such a thing? That Thanksgiving movie? John and point Pleasant. You're in New Jersey one a 1.5. Yeah. How you guys doing? All right, John. John, feel quick. I missed the very top of this, Jeff. What do you think is the one Thanksgiving movie? And that's that. Oh, there's a There's a movie either from the eighties or nineties called planes, trains and automobiles. OK, OK, yeah, because that's all that Steve Moore and trying to get back in time for Thanksgiving. Right, Right. Right. So my movie is I just thought of a second one Well on hold, but B P I X and 60 years old since I can remember as far back baby It seems I've been 10 years old march of the wooden soldiers is on Thanksgiving Day, if you've ever seen that movie most likely would have had have been on Thanksgiving. There's everythings giving, but see. Usually, people say that was a Christmas movie that just happened to start airing on Thanksgiving, right? Yes. And maybe doesn't have the Thanksgiving twit it But it is so tied to Thanksgiving. Yeah, that's the only time you ever going to see it. Okay. Back in the day. Wasn't there one of those local channels? Maybe. Was w O r w p x? No, no, no. No. But I was gonna tell you a different one. I'm sorry, but wasn't there one of those local channels that used to play a King Kong movie? Every Thanksgiving. King Kong. I don't remember dark now. Now I look insane. I'm telling you, right? Yeah. Not realizing what he's really Planning doing Yeah. Um, yeah. You know what? I can't argue with it. They're big, emotional scene to Thanksgiving. Um, I think of something else. There's an ugly scene. "The holiday specials that's still command an annual They were caring like Rudolph the Red nosed reindeer. And Here comes Peter Cottontail. But there's a Halloween special. That's a little bit more of a cult classic called The Mad Monster Party Voice by Boris Karloff, Phyllis Diller and so many others and joining us to talk about this Rankin bass creation is the official historian and biographer of Rankin Bass, author of the book, The Enchanted World of Rank and Bass. The Making of Rudolph, the Red Nosed reindeer and Rankin Bass is Mad Monster party is my Pel, Rick Goldschmidt. You know first, Let's talk about a little bit of the history of the Mad Monster party in first aired in 1967 Correct Right. It was actually a feature film that came out Primarily to Kitty Matt Nace. Jos E. Levin produced three movies with Arthur Rankin and Jewels back And they sang the deal right after Rudolph was such a big success, but the first movie to come out Was the wacky world of Mother Goose, and that didn't do all that well. And the day dreamer was the next film, and that didn't do a CZ well as they were opening. So mad Monster party kinda went into the kiddie matinees and kind of built that coat following for many years after from television. Um, And I think it really was the main influence and Tim Burton's nightmare before Christmas and you know the corpse bride and kind of the stop motion. Uh, gas movement that he went with with his films. I agree with you 1000% there now. What's the premise of the story here? What's the story? Well, it's just Boris Karloff. Is giving up being the chief of the monsters and once the relinquish that over to his nephew, Felix planking, and it kind of becomes a big party and on the Isle of Evil. And then it it sort of ends like the original King Kong. Although they couldn't call King Kong King Kong in this film, they call them it. But the planes come and you know, there's ah formula that blows up and it's like a big Adam bomb explosion at the end of the film. And then Felix and Francesca. Live happily ever after. I mean, there's account, there's the mummy. You know, there's all kinds of characters in this thing. I think it's hysterical that that Phyllis Diller is part of it, but you know the characters themselves. It wasn't really indicative of a lot of the an imagined they did even with the Christmas stuff that these characters look so much like the people that voice them. I mean, that looked like Boris Karloff that looked like Phyllis Diller. Yeah, And they got Jack Davis to design the film, and he's probably my favorite artists. He's out of the pages, a Mad magazine. Um, back in the day. He was pretty much known for Mad magazine. But then he became a big commercial artist, and Arthur was a big fan of his work. And he really developed some unique looking monster characters, including the count. And the Dracula in this film really looks like what became Jim Henson's count with the monocle and you know the whole get up, and he had on Pretty much became account. Yeah, Sesame Street. We'll tell you so that might make my kids love watching this movie. This is ahh. It's a tradition, as is the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown and The Abbott Costello Meet Frankenstein. They love watching this every single year Now, Boris Karloff, you know, known for his horror films, But in the last years, he lent his voice too many Children's projects. I mean, this is being one of them. Yeah, I just watched a documentary about Boris and they didn't even mention Mad Monster party because there's so many other things that he did with this career. I mean, he did thriller and How the Grinch stole Christmas and countless different things, But Arthur Rankin knew that he wanted to get the really deal for this film. Rather than have somebody impersonate the Boris Karloff voice and he actually flew out to England when Boris wasn't really in very good health. And recorded his work in his home on DH. You know the song that he sings in the film, he pretty much talks the lyrics. And they actually wrote the song around his talking that they already had recorded in 65. So it's kind of interesting in back then, when he did his work, it was known as the Monster Convention. And then it became the monster movie. And then when Harvey Kurtzman got involved, it was the publisher of Mad magazine. He changed the title. The Mad Monster Party. Got your attention. Now you've wrote a book about this too. And I find this very fast. It was like almost 300 pages. 300 images. 55 full color pages of photos and artwork and and you've done this for Rudolph, you donut this for the the entire rank and vast collections. Your books are absolutely so much detail and so fabulous. I think my two favorite of and they've done so many films over the years, but I really like Rudolph and Mad Monster Party. I just like the design. Of the characters and the earlier work, and that's why I had to do a book specifically on the film and on Rudolph. Um, but you could write books about so many of their, uh, different specials and films. Um, but these three women on the sand across is another big one. You know, maybe maybe that's on the horizon. But you got sheet music. And here you have shooting scripts. You got the original comic books that were in here, some behind the scenes interviews. That's pretty cool. You can purchase The Rankin and bass books that air that again just fabulous, But you can get this it miser brothers dot com. That's miser bros dot com and folks, you gotta.

"Clothes off every single thing. The member of the peoples Temple did revolved around the wants and needs of and dislikes of gyms. So if the profit didn't like it, they didn't do it basically which is how it would like my life to go if people don't if I like it, don't want them there any way to get know like selling monkeys stop doing it, please it's wrong. Meanwhile Jim became infatuated with power and authority even going as far to believe in the very myth that he created about himself off. His followers were required to address him as either father or dad and later your song referring himself to Christ or God good bit. So I think he's just yeah, he's he's about eighty years too early to be calling him. Daddy know what I mean. Where's daddy's monkey? And I know I'm not easily and he's legally adopting all of the children or they're signing their kids over. Yeah. Listen, most of the family members have definitely have a lot of stake in this they have given up everything. If not their children for sure most they're material possessions. I mean moving that far they didn't have much Choice there pretty isolated. Yeah, exactly. They're away from their friends family and like it's the beginning of the I'm your only the warning light. It's a it's a classic manipulative boyfriend or girlfriend, you know, right on you know that I that I I've been there and for a boy who spent most of his childhood neglected by his parents the attention and influence that gym now possess took a totally intoxicating. Yes daddy issues, which is why you got himself the nickname dad father makes sense King Kong King Kong King Daddy, but Tension was clearly not enough from he began taking large quantities of amphetamines and barbiturates. What's that? Were Barbra chew drugs dance? Yeah, he's going to take a lot of in phetamine initially as a way to stay awake much longer. However, this is soon involved into recreational drug use which led him to experience major mood swings and exacerbated his paranoia this combined with Xfinity reading Health meant that dangerous and unhinged manned lurked beneath the image of the God-fearing and iconic philanthropist that Jim had carefully cultivated throughout the years. So he slowly turning into to the Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde, which was the crazy one Mister hyzer drive you crazy one year. I think the doctors they the good doctors East a good ticket. Yeah. I don't know how much of a good doctor is left in gym married at this point fueled by his drug abuse. Jim's paranoia led him to believe that both the CIA and FBI backed by the entire United States government were after him and the peoples Temple dead. This Thread along with the expose article that was about to be published spurred him into relocating his church. Once again no time to Guyana South America. So we're leaving the couch and then what about the Monkees? Oh, well, they're probably more finally we're getting back to what's important. Yeah, like they're going right to the middle of a dense jungle. So there are definitely I don't know if there's monkeys I'm going to assume there's monkeys that maybe there is I'm going to make a large assumption in Sioux. Maybe he went because of the monkey. Yeah, who knows he said there. I know there wasn't monkeys in California guys. But listen, you've given me everything back up until this point. I'll give you the Monkees we're going to get monkeys and then and that was it how many families of this point does? Is there any I'm curious if it's if the call it's larger at this point there is still wage that people okay going down with him a guy on a like Yeah, and I don't know. I personally don't understand it. But I guess like if you're in that situation when you owe him everything and he dead These are children like your children have grown up thinking the students God, right? Yeah, it's hard to be like we're saying no to God. Yeah, I don't know it's weird but moving on the members of P Temple followed Jim to South America believing in his vision of a utopian communion amid, the country's dense jungle as well in his Charisma and larger-than-life personality in June of though Jim became even more controlling using drugs to ensure that none of his followers escaped his clutches within the compound. We're piles of mind-altering substances, including Quaaludes Demerol Valium morphine off and about eleven thousand doses of Franzen. I don't know what that is, but apparently it was a drug that helped individuals suffering from mental illness like issues. So, I mean, it sounds like a SoundCloud rappers dream. Most people's nightmare. I feel like being controlled by drugs is don't do drugs. I think that's the more of story here. Here's the thing don't do hard drugs because a completely rational Spiritual man until he found our drunkies and monkeys. So rather than the Utopia the people's Temple was promised. They emerged face the harsh realities of living in the jungle members were forced to carry out manual labor in the sweltering tropical heat often working long and grueling hours in a bid to please Jim the agriculture Paradise. Jim promised his congregation never materialized. The jungle soils are notoriously thin and lacked the nutritious nutritious nutrient nutrient I got there. It is sufficient to grow crops despite the efforts of the peoples Temple. They weren't able to plant anything and were forced to go into town and beg for food. Most of the time they came back with discards spoiled and rotten food for the market which they had to share with one another so long. It's not looking great, you know, it went from helping people in communities in America to being just really poor and hungry. I would imagine in and sick I'm assuming Sick, I would assume a lot of them were sick. Yeah, it says in this next like in this next paragraph hear their starvation was made him worse by the mosquitoes that were constantly feeding on their skin as well as the snakes at always kept them on their table. Maybe not a it's just maybe a little malaria action. Wow. Oh wow. He's also I think have that so don't quote me on that. I don't know monkeys and malaria during the dry season wage every single member participated in a bucket poor grades. Just so that their plants went died. The work was backbreaking and harsh often like it was done In the Heat of sun, which is grow up but humidity. It's all right. Well Sam, you know Samsung website here. He wants he says grow up you moved there. It's your fault pretty much how the village going to run without the bucket brigades. It would be a great name for the call and Bucket Brigade. What does it imply though? I don't know like the wings of Deliverance economy is like you're going to heaven I think and the monkey business is just fun job. Hell, I don't know but bucket brigades got good alliteration thing but it was like yeah Stairway to Heaven, you know one bucket at a tile your pilot's gets on each other get to heaven. Yeah, you might have you fall I guess but God damn more importantly Jim Brett a culture of mistrust among the congregants. None of them are allowed to talk with one another which made Place planning to escape Jonestown downright impossible. He also planted several trusted members who were tasked to weed out those who weren't a hundred percent in on the cult. So, you know, he's starting to stir that mister, like people can't confide in one another which makes you know getting out of there a lot harder and you're just isolated. It's safe to assume a lot of these people are just depressed and like want out there but they're too scared to make a break for it themselves. You know what I mean? Yeah, there's they're ostracized for for feeling like rape or something wrong exactly slowly news of their awful circumstances reached family and friends back home. I don't know why it took so long but like pretty far off. If I mean, yeah now they are but if one of my friends are family like a moving to California help this guy out. I'd be like a little strange like maybe don't but they began pressuring the United States government to take action against Jim and save their loved ones from the horrible conditions of life in Guyana, which was then referred to as Jones. Oh, there's the title of episode roll.

"Forward-thinking. It's kind of sad that that had such an effect on people in America wage I mean like people grew up with the fear of nuclear war like all the time. You still probably should. Yeah, definitely more than ever definitely probably should be more worried about it. Now. It's kind of crazy that he just life removing. How many people at this point was he do you think he was moving like it's a 65 families. Holy so that's a lot. I mean a family could be too so it's a cult wage at this point. It's basically it's the root. This is the starting of the cult phase is the starting of where it starts to get. Oh gyms off his rocker now, but he is considering it a religion this point wings of Deliverance. He's always operated in the the church, right? Yeah. So when he got kicked out this was his way of still pushing his religion, but but doing his own thing, which I mean at the beginning was a good and no gym claims that they moved because of the nuclear war many claim that the motivated reason could be because this was also the point when they launched an investigation khong Was healing rituals. So that might be a percentage. I don't know I can't say for sure. I don't know Jim. You know what? I mean? And Jim are boys. He died a long time ago spoilers if she is dead. Yeah, the the monkey Hitler lover is dead Justin. I'm sorry to sorry to break it to you. I hope he died from AIDS. No. No, I am so in Redwood Valley the peoples Temple slowly expanded their operation the 65 families that had followed Jim from Indiana to California worked hard to establish homes for the elderly as well as services for drug addict an orphan children's their work attracted Praises from the community published in newspapers and even loaded lauded by the local politicians voted voted voted allotted allotted the media Thursday activities garnered made Jimmy into an even bigger celebrity and before long he was seen as selfless charitable and compassionate man a shining Beacon of American values and idealism damn use the Superman song. Day, this guy was good shit. I mean up until this point. He's had a few weird moments. Obviously. I mean, you can't blame em too much for I mean, you can't blame kids too much like it's it's weird that he killed. Mm. I mean all agree that still and then the healing thing. Yeah. He's a quack people are calling him a clock for the healing thing at this point, but I think as far as grifters go he's taking the money. He's getting the healing and actually putting it into good thing so far. Yeah, you can't hate that part of it. You can hate that. He's swindling people into healing them cuz he is definitely taking advantage of people but for sure he's not a terrible human being right now, but underneath this veneer of perfection and altruism lay a dark and Sinister secret while other song man filled by his principles in a utopian vision of the world. The real Jim Jones was a mental a hinged and unbalanced individual his actions would eventually spell Doom for those in his congregation. That's a little foreshadowing, you know a little bit of tees for what's coming any any questions or comments suck. On Jim Jones so far it would have been cool if he called us call Monkey Business holyshit. I would have been also a good band name might be one a cult. Well, you literally had a business selling monkeys. It would be should we you can't legally sell monkeys any more. I looked into it just on the pot or before just now. Oh, okay. I thought you just knew this off. Now. I had you can't I thought wow a long-lost trade. I am tired of working question. Yeah, what did he do to convince his sixty five families to follow him across the country. That's a good question. I'm not sure what he said to them. But at this point it's safe to say he has a lot of control over these people being this and and it is set a lot of times in in a different spots that he was a very charismatic person. So for him to convince people to move for the greater good of people I don't think is a stretch like for you and I it might be weird. As we're not we're not in a cult, right? So it's it's hard to imagine being wow, being that enthralled with a leader that that could just be like, hey, we're moving here, you know, maybe maybe that's like monkey team is made up and or bananas and he's in California. You promised them dreams of grandeur and monkeys. However, the the Dynamics of the peoples Temple started changing when they settled in California. Like I said it this is the the beginning of the the Cold War monkeys know the heat the monkeys were not there as he promised low. So from a a church dedicated to God and less fortunate the peoples Temple slowly turned into the cult that it became. It would started becoming geared towards Jones and his ever-changing whims their aims gradually became more political and more communist with members forced to pledge to all their material possessions and money to Jim some even signed over custody of their children to them mistakenly believing that the profit which was a nickname Jim soon wage. Adopted after relocating was the only one capable of rearing kids in the proper way. Oh, that's creepy. So we're getting weird. He's adopting by force now. Also, I think if anyone starts calling themselves Prophet The Oracle anything like that, we you probably have a situation. He starts calling himself some worst thing the overlord the all Mighty Overlord your clothes off every single thing. The member of the peoples Temple did revolved around the wants and needs of and dislikes of gyms. So if the profit didn't like it, they didn't do it basically which is how it would like my life to go if people don't if I don't like it, I don't want them there any way to get to know like selling monkeys stop doing it, please it's wrong. But it's not just about women it's about it's about. I mean, that's why it's hard to answer that question. Because look at the Taliban right. The Taliban are Sunni Muslims. From the dominant Muslim sect in Afghanistan. There from the largest Muslim sect in Afghanistan. What's the difference between then them and non Taliban Sunni Muslims? The difference? Isn't that great what they actually believe and what they observe is not that different. In fact, In many cases, it's coincident. I mean, it's it's the same praying five times a day doing the things Is observing the religion in the same way. The difference is that most people, most Afghans do not want to see violence and extreme cruelty used to propagate order enforce their religion. Fact photos next 1 2016 as well also from Kabul scavenger boy gathering garbage near the old Royal Palace. Yes, this and if I was looking at this picture of the day, I thought how it's good to show it because that palace has now been completely renovated. It's undergoing this massive, massive renovation. It's very beautiful now that was built in the 19 twenties by King on Manolo, and it was, hey was it was Oh, he live there, and it was a beautiful old palace that was destroyed in successive wars. So it's a really it's stood for years as an emblem and an eyesore of all the terrible violence that has destroyed Kabul over the years, and so when I took that picture, which was about three or 3.5 years ago, I really thought it really said so much. You know, there's a little boy who can't go to school. He's got this ragged bag in which he's collecting garbage, and that's what he does all day. This this this wretched looking heap of bones that turned out to be a dog that was almost dead and it was covered with sores and wounds and was starving to death and believe it or not, even though it was a very large dog. I picked him up. I picked him up with my driver and we put him in the car Children with throwing stones at him. He was almost dead, and we just picked him up and put it in the car took him back to a place where we were keeping and trying to help animals. I'm really excited. Are you excited? Yeah excited but they wouldn't even say what they were excited for. They just dropped the word excited like three times in the same. I mean it's like two people air high fiving but they don't say why they're doing it but it was. It was ludicrous. It was just. It was a bad showing man. It was a bad showing. We could've put one together in forty five minutes would have been better than that. I don't know sat d- think this circles back to the idea of catering to the lowest denominator where some people do want the action packed. Cinematic stuff shown versus low key. Gameplay let's say did do you feel that maybe some of it or are we in other words. Are we like the the because I work with people in the Gaming Industry? Who are at school well should be at school. They're not at school and date. None of them could figure out what was going on it. Just like the sonar. Both Sony and Microsoft have had really big MRS now now. Microsoft admittedly showed games where Sony was like. You know our audio system that'll be available in ten years. We'll be really cool like all right great but neither has really let the world on fire. I think I get what you're saying. I just if they were trying that johnny boy they hit a small contingent of people like three. The Pizza three-point gave a thumbs up to their xbox video. So yeah it's sad man. I mean well like even the hall stuff. Did we really see anything new? I mean what right like new is in data like there was nothing it was just a little bit more of the cut scene right so I don't know I. These guys are so lost everybody by the way. I'm not dissing on just xbox. I'm not dissing on Sony. I'm not just on Nintendo. There also lost because they have no clue who's doing what show win game show was announced and then cancelled. Ea has just saved stated. They're doing their own show. Ubisoft is now doing their own show. So I can tell you right now. Ubisoft is not going to say we would love to show all the stuff on xbox first and then have nothing on. There's that's new. So all of these companies are doing their own digital events. And I think that that's also eating up. You know some of some of the time that we can discuss about game. Yeah what else was there. What looked good. Oh the one H C Geiger. Peanuts Strip and looking game looked pretty pretty creepy. That's what it looked like. I don't know any other way to start. It looked like a penis now driven. Something fluidity right. That is what it looked like. I mean that's what multiple boob said. It looked like I don't know Vampire masquerades trailer right. That was pretty cool. What did you think about that looked so rough? Though Johnny. It looked so last chin their face Arab but but even current games but I think like maybe it looked like it could be an awesome game. Despite that. That's just you impression. I got a first person stuff. Yeah Dan that's when I that's where he got me interesting. Yeah L. Interested in the end portion of the trailer. Maybe last twenty seconds or ten seconds. Where you actually see. There's a game there and what it might look like to play the game vs on the cut scenes stuff so people are telling me the game the peanuts. Strip and Games Scorn Yup. That's weird. Yeah we were just like nobody even figure out what was really going on in that trailer. It was but it looked like was saying she was like they went edgy. Which I will say. We'll stick in my mind longer. They did go edgy. Five or six of their games were horror. So that's not what I expected from Microsoft. So that was cool. How was the current talk? Not Interesting? The xbox event would be fine. If they didn't advertise game play. How is it not interesting by not having interesting stuff in other words I it was terrible? It was pretty shocking. That seven was revealed on the xbox stage over Sony. Yes so people brought that up not only was it on the xbox stage over Sony but then x Sony's stamp wasn't on it and so people are like is that exclusive then later they did say scorn exclusive in fact two or three of those games are either exclusive there or exclusive. I on the XBOX Which Microsoft say so didn't I hadn't expected was that Yakuza seven launches On windows ten at the same date Gave US my game. I don't think so by the the same date so that's already good game but you can summon fucking lobsters people come on. Come on join me and my Yuccas I love it looks it looks. It looks good. What other news was there was no Phil Spencer? He didn't say anything. There's look like control. A spaceship medium is a medium medium. Was the one that was sorry. I was just Sorry I was just randomly saying the name of one of the Games which was it looked like control but it was in Russia. Like a chick and crying rich church and it looked like it was said in Russia. Maybe within the snow that look a little bit like control. I'm just reading some of this stuff. Oh and then the fighting one. The was that called the Alpha zero made by one guy the very cool Mir's edge slash crisis looking game looked with the with the MIC with the mech suits. Showed some stuff man. I don't know I guess I guess they could`ve. What if at the end they just said you just heard some music right and it was like? I don't know what the music would sound like do. And then it was like fable for as title and that was it right. Yeah it would have been cool. They didn't there was nothing like they. Just Theater Mullen Yukon. This backup and he's I don't know when we asked you choose your genitals often. Thought it would be which by the way you can in cyberpunk which I actually think it's pretty cool for trans people out there like hey do you wanna be can trust who. Who's GonNa who's not going to be well hung like yeah who's GonNa have a? Who's going to have a grower right? I won't even look at that option. Man I like that kind of stuff. I don't get my real says. Oh my God would face so instead of just like hang on you take a physics for junk with some piss gaming cannot object. You're selects level. It is it is next level what they showed NFL. And here's the problem. Here's the problem Microsoft. Had they showed exactly what we've all believed and no one wants to admit. Is that next? Gen Games are not gonNA blow you away right away and it's always it's always the case but you always have somebody trying to say where going to allow for you too can make a real world and transform sales and you always have some. Jakov believing the hype. That's not the way it works. And so what we see is basically you know you'll get those games that are majority will look slightly better and then you'll get those one or two first party games. Maybe even a third game that steps it up but we saw madden and they said like genuine or you know xbox game play and I was like wrong game to show like Cha. The only time a huge differences between the original xbox and at three sixty when. Hdtv was a thing. Oh Yeah we're not from four. Adp to seven twenty. Yeah it can gong and I was like de King. Kong was the shit APP Z. When King Kong King calling for good today though at King Kong Awesome? Yeah when he's on the boat and stuff King Kong was pretty next level for for I you know I I am. I ever had on that and perfect exoo. Good Times high perfect dark zero. Don't even know if I turned it on. Yeah was it good was perfect dark zero good. I I loved it. Do you could go up. I was a thing. Remember Pins Dude. You remember still love him. There's only like five well just just to make was so different back. Then like on Xbox live I used to co OP games with random? People make friends like a friend Who We just play everything like I just. I just met him through random matchmaking and you never have the these days you don't meet people through matchmaking anymore. You meet them through discordant stuff. You don't true. Does anybody else because I met somebody. I'm friends with somebody. I met on a random. Have you guys ever made a friend with a random on a game? Yes yes yes and still France I get one of them even became my work colleague. So because you got him hired you like my ex girlfriend. I met in a game as well. Okay Gotcha your girlfriend at my ex now. Oh Shit. That's cool I mean. Yeah I I would say yeah two or three in the past not so much anymore but two or three in the past. I definitely know of people I played with enough that I wish I knew them still even more. There's even more of them where I remember their username. Or whatever chewy. If you're out there love you. There's one guy that like me out in a game I remember it probably forever and it was like we never heard his voice because it was prior to to to voice chat. I remember his Gamertag on I remember the picture remember. The obviously edgy. Gamertag the skull. And there's the monkey Amer tags are like you know. These guys are toxic. Mother fuckers. I met four friends in June road and we are friends and we have our five years so good game buddy on left for dead still playing together a decade plus later. That's very cool now. There's just so many things that stop you from talking or whatever that it's like are we ever GonNa you know. Is that going to be a thing anymore? Which it just doesn't feel like it. Will I guess I also became friends with friends of friends so like I would be playing and then somebody else would bring their friend party. And then you sort of y'all get along well and that sort of that that I can still work like if all of us brought a friend in somebody else you know. Those people can start to go like. Oh Yeah. You're pretty cool and have them work but yeah those were the good times man. Were Shit wasn't so antisocial and people just weren't. I have a lot of toxicity when I go into. I don't know why because everybody else talks about like being called the N. Word on that stuff that just does not it has not really popped up on the voice chats. I've been I've really I've had a pretty good time of the voice chats. It just seems like less and less people even turn it on now. You know you go into a game and you can see all their Mike commuted because either their own party right there in their own discord with their cell phones like us on discord Or they just don't want to be involved in a in a discussion. I think I think it's like people appreciate it. More back in the day when it was new off shock and interact with this person online and play games with them. And now it's like. Oh It's nothing shit dad usually nowadays if you hear something it's somebody who has his Mike Open and all the time and you're calling all yes. He's hit mute all year or or while you're playing as they're typing on their future and you're like God. Yeah Yeah I definitely hear that. I also hear when somebody's got their Mike to close it'll be rubbing their beard on it and shit like dude turn it off. I agree with you..

"There's there's a nonverbal component take but maybe not enough I. I knew how it ended. Yeah all right well next extend my list. We'll take a brief pause from our from our Disney history. And we'll go into some deeper well a little bit of earlier film history I'M GONNA pick the the nineteen thirty three classic film King Kong which is the film that arguably made Arco Studios and I'm going to select select the again the title character King Kong himself which maybe as a stretch because is he truly a an animal in the way that we think I would I would say so so. He's a big old eight break. He's an animal. He's just really big one so this is a film that I only recently. Well I watched it recently for a class that I taught on Arcadio Arco Cinema Archea. Films Pictures Sorry. Getting my studio names straight But I hadn't watched it since I was much younger. I had actually never watched it in my home schooling at. Probably I think the last time I've watched it was with my dad as a kid on like a weekend broadcast and really. I didn't remember too much about it. Other than the the climactic scenes in New York so so even to think of it as an animated film even though those are those those scenes are clearly animated. Particularly the you know the the fight with the with the plains on top of top of the Empire State building the what stood out to me going back to it now where the scenes The scenes in the jungle which are just I was just really amazed by the technical proficiency that they were able to accomplish at that moment in history. History it until it. I've heard you know hearing it described as one thing but to actually see how those scenes play out where he fights with the dinosaurs and It's just really remarkable staging and in many ways when you think about stop motion animation. There's a there's a degree of sophistication that feels like it. You know stop motion. Took a step back over the next couple of decades From what from what they had accomplished here. It's really never been a match before but of course you know just as as an iconic figure of cinema Ma and just as a physical presence you kind of you know lives up to the title. I guess and King Kong is also an interesting staying point of connection for me as my own kind of film history because the very first film that I saw in theatres was the dino dealer Rentis version of Kinko which is interesting but but Not as not as strong as the original so I don. You're a big well your your comments. I think Mesh with Ricky's because it's about scale. Yes because he is so big you know they have that big wall right on the island to keep him in but of course he is. He is enemy an animated animals zone. You're you're absolutely legitimate. Bring it up But the puppet was about out Eighteen inches high and I think that still is Available to look look at in the USC film collection of the Right Archive. But yeah there were several of the puppets and there's one the has been preserved while I love the fact that you chose this because it works so well with my interests which are bringing bringing animals to life and making them perform because King Kong hung is a wild animal. He's a beast in the jungle. But the idea is that he can be civilized Not In kind of top down way by the trainers who put them on display in the the palace Vaudeville House an Times Square in New York but by the love of his woman you I know and it was beauty killed the recall. You can't you can't escape it since. Say That at least three times at the end of the film film And we curiously. Even though he's savage in the scenes that have been restored in modern versions. We have the original scenes where he actually eats the people in the islands he's attracting any chomps on a couple live of unfortunate the New Yorkers he's running amok using the subway like a like a sippy Straw man. Yeah and and we Have this human behavior attributed to amend. We've been talking about anthropomorphic a strategies. There's another good word that is used cold a highly zoe. Okay Hi Donna. Wisdom and this is attributing forbidding human thought an intention to inanimate objects or animals so a very good example of this is yesterday president trump Head of presentation of the Animal ACRO- right right. That's right the dog. Yes who tracked down A al-Baghdadi he's being promoted as a war hero and the president was talking about his bravery and his intelligence dance and House smart he was and what a great warrior. He was. Well he's he is. It's true that he is those things but it's because because those are projections of human traits onto the It was really just performing the canine behavior. Right that's been channeled by years years of training There is a thing of the paper that said that it costs two hundred eighty three thousand dollars. The train dog to to to do what he does. which is about as much as sophisticated weapon would cost the military but the thing is is that we really only get a certain amount of pleasure thinking about animals as actors and having agency and being able to track down villains because they know a bad guy they see one And it's very much like that. With King Kong King Kong is a wild animal who is being trained and domesticated to be a performer in Vaudeville theatre circuit and I lose wisdom. It's a very powerful for animal. Oh actors and it's very powerful for animation so all of the characters that we've been describing in part are appealing because they act like human being so we give them human traits. Yeah I mean the the the the threatening aspects of his character I mean. It's it's not he's not just simply this you know this monster that comes through and causes this damage. It's it's the the way that he's designed to be to have these more humane elements in certainly the love story. Being a part of it. I was the thing that struck me to you and using it in a class and I am fairly certain you've taught it before is how well students responded to it because because you would assume that students looking at a film that's essentially a precursor to things like Jurassic Park and more contemporary monster. On stor movies I guess or whatever we call those that they would be more cynical about it and they were totally on board with it and totally into the into the kind of spectacular Experience that that the film creates and we'll also brand was a brilliant animator and he proceeded very intuitively. You know he didn't have any computer AIDS AIDS or anything like that. We use now for object animation in King Kong is sort of the opposite of the uncanny valley than we were talking about. Because you can see O'Brien's fingerprints on his for loonies moving. Yes yes and you AH conceded his movements very jerky and so you never. You never think that he's anything but an animated puppet and yet he is is an actor who is very scary He has that enormous mass. Like monstrous does and it just it just works so well The follow up mighty. Joe Young is another brilliant animation. Effort by Wilson Brian but that that the giant gorilla is not as effective for some reason in terms of how it resonates to leader audiences or just the feeling of being convincing insinger being yeah yeah. He is very convincing so great performance. What's what's next on your list? Well when you said animated animals. I thought we had to talk about the the era animated animal which is Mickey Mouse of course and You know McKee Started out in nineteen twenty eight and a couple of silent films by Walt Disney and the Disney studio. At the time the Disney studio was was mainly his animator named of I works was the real creator of Mickey Mouse and then steamboat. Willie was uh not the first sound cartoon. There were quite a few half dozen or so released in theaters before steamboat Willie. But it was the first that was successful successful and made a big hidden. You might say the first that was designed from the beginning as a sound Phil because the original storyboards the script as it were had sound cues built in and of course we have the the voice of a Walt Disney coming through his squeaks. And he's the voice of the parrot at the end of recall and So does a it is a real sound film and It was a great success but I don't think it was because it was sound. I think that was very important but I think that the reason that it was so successful was because because of Mickey Mouse and the R- A ton of other mouse characters in animated cartoons all through the twenties including in films by Walt Disney. But Mickey comes across in those early films as having a a real character that we can identify with as this is kind of a mid Westerner. He's kind of an every man right. He's a young man and his first films. steamboat Willie He is a sort of a buster. Keaton like character and the the title of the film refers to steamboat. Bill Right of course in film in plain crazy. He is is Gerald physicals Lindbergh. He's physical but he does stretch in squash classic animation techniques in his arms. Fly All over the place with a rubber hose. Animation is very appropriately called but I think Maki succeeded because of this highly wisdom. We really see that. He is a humanoid character acting We we don't see him as a rodent. All we know is not dirty. Disney's rival was the Felix the Cat Studio and Felix's Felix's another great Animal An animation superstar we could have talked about Felix the cat but his animator auto messmer was famous for saying that to me as a repulsive thing and I think it probably a lot of Disney's rivals felt the same way. Yeah and it's also interesting. That Mickey was certainly the the the first sound era superstar of animation. He was not the only one there was of course betty boop and Popeye But he was the one who is most is powerful and persuasive as as an actor and as an embodied being but he lost his popularity in the course course of the nineteen thirties so much so that the studio eventually abandoned the character in the efforts to revive Mickey Mouse. He never never really had the same kind of popular appeal that he did in the thirties early thirties but yet he's such a he's I mean he is the figure that's most associated stayed with Disney right right when variety you know they have this varieties language that they use when they refer to Disney. They call it the miles else variety term for the Disney studio but making us is like you're saying I never associated him with a mouse house when I would see a real life mouse. I wouldn't think of Mickey Mickey I think of a mouse the same way. I think I was twenty when I learned the chipmunks we're supposed to be chipmunks hunks. There's such divorce there. Yeah yeah that. And he's he doesn't look like there is a beautiful Disney silly symphony from the Mid Nineteen Thirties. I'll say nineteen thirty six. Call the flying mouse and that has a mouse mouse like character and he looks like a mouse. He has his a realistic. I mean you know. In quotes realistic Melchior's he has a a long tail. Doesn't have any for on it. So it's Kinda ratty and he has a little little claws and his his fingers And so he does look more like a mouse and he has a mouse physique. And I've always thought it interesting that the flying mouse character and mickey mouse existed kind kind of side by side and yet they don't look anything alike that Pluto and goofy Carmona cluedo so at the least does look kind of like dog but but wind acts like a dog. Hell is goofy goofy sentient. The ordeal of course Mickey Maki evolves right from what. He isn't steamboat. Bill Willie steamboat. Bill steamboat Willie to To what what he is. My most recent engagement was through when my kids were little watching the The odious Mickey Mouse clubhouse animated version automated show on Disney channel. But do you have a particular fondness for a Mickey from certain era is it. Is it the early one that that kind of stands out the most you or I like I like the the the rude and crude Mickey from Nineteen Twenty eight to about nineteen thirty three and then then he becomes more domesticated softer. Yeah Yeah Yeah and you know it's a little it's a little off story. Perhaps but I was at Walt Disneyworld about a the month ago and we had one of these lunches where you can meet the characters and We met Maki. Of course he was. He was a retirement. Didn't didn't so much But many was there. Many is actually now much more popular character than Mickey Nelson in the theme Parks But we had at this very moving thing where you can have your picture taken with Minnie mouse and there was this Young adult woman who was posing with author picture and and she said something to too many to the person some of your podcast listeners may want to cover their ears actually human beings inside those suits shocking. Not Monster owed grow. Throw down the theme park that I know of but anyway the woman was whispering something to too many and then she just broke down. She started crying and sobbing then she had a little daughter who came up and they were all crying than you know we were waiting in line. We were all crying too and I don't know what the secret was being was being Reveal there but clearly for this person Minnie mouse although it's hard not to see her as just University of Central Florida student wearing brand told me feeling hurry. Hot.

"I got so many chinese look people being like wow the people behind you hate them. Apparently somebody who screams stop filming yeah. Hey is a free country. Dammit okay we can fill when we were media. We needed it. I mean honey. Why are we sitting here right now. Because as i filmed it and people saw you know what i mean oh yeah so it worked out. It worked so universal. You're welcome so katie after writing a second time at night in the front front row. How would it compare it to the first time we wrote it more earlier. During the day back a few rows okay. Which would you recommend to everyone one. I recommend sitting in the middle back area because that is where you will get the least wet if you wanna. If you wanna wanna get real wes- go to the front yes but that's how it is on splash mountain to and i didn't even think about neither. We were like oakland front row. We were like this. This is awesome but like we got my ass like i said i did not wanna wet ass. No i got a wet ass yeah. I got a wet ass yeah so i was not looking forward to that but the ride was very fun the second time he really was and i liked that it was a little darker. I think nighttime vibes really serve. This ride was still really fun during the day but if you go to universal and you pull acadian jackie and you go in the afternoon i think saved drastic world the ride ride for the evening. Yeah i think you would love the vibe. I loved it yeah and that bars great there was no surprise there wasn't even a line for the bar and that just came out to and those are strong as hell yeah. I think you could totally make a fun afternoon in this area and have a great time one hundred percent we both agree. The mummy ride is super superfund so great the rest of the rides. Are those like motion rides <hes> they. I'm not a huge fan. I'm talking like the big harry potter castle ride the despicable me ride the simpsons ride the transformers where the king kong king conrad <hes> that's on the uh <music> tour this tour so they're all basically you sit in a little device and it jumps up and down. There's a screen in front of you and it's like you're supposed to like visualize allies. They're not for my stomach yeah. I'm going to be honest. I get really sick on so you know that to me. There's not a ton a ride at universal vercel..
