"Nat King Cole because he put his patent on net was almost an artist who put his is a patent on you know what I mean? By hey, put his patent on almost everything he touched musically. Even his piano playing. Many have called it the greatest American Christmas, Carol. Oh, that. Christmas song. Yeah. Mel Torme in his composition, but net once again, he put his patent on that. He recorded about three different times. Each time he elevated the personnel who accompanied him on that song, and the song demonstrates how beautifully his vocal line could rise above the orchestration. I heard all the recordings, but I'm so involved in listening to what Net was saying. I tend to forget that he's being accompanied by these strings on these horns, and they but I know they're there, but they don't interfere on so I'm a free sample frame to kids from 1 to 92. Although it's been said many times many ways. Merry Christmas Mama, too. He was always singing in the moment. That's what his voice and his interpretation was about. Good jazz phrasing.

"Welcome to the arab. They're a podcast about the wide world of aviation and aerospace. I'm dominique abreu ellen. Kennedy there's an old nat king cole. Song did i love. The chorus goes straighten up and fly right and this most certainly applies today to how we all should act but flying is an airline passenger allen. We all know that life is an airline passenger in. The twenty first century can be stressful. Health concerns new regulations. Unruly fellow passengers and flight delays can be nerve racking for any traveler. But remember that the pilots and flight attendants are there to get you to your destination safely and everything they do is for your benefit in fact. Did you know that there are federal regulations. Bat actually prohibit passengers from interfering with crew members. Yeah that's right. Violating these regulations can result in hefty fines and we mean hefty all excellent points dominate after years of decline incidents of unruly passengers unfortunately spiked twenty eighteen. And from twenty twenty. Two twenty one. They've had record numbers largely because passengers failed to listen to flight attendants directions about the new mask policy in january. Twenty twenty one. faa administrator. steve. Dixon signed an order directing zero tolerance policy against unruly airline passengers in the wake of recent troubling incidents. Recently we've seen a disturbing increase in incidents where airline passengers have disrupted flights with threatening or violent behavior. These incidents have stemmed both from passengers refusals to wear masks and from recent violence at the us capitol. This dangerous behavior can distract disrupt and threatened crew members safety functions and as a former airline captain. It's extremely concerning to me. And i know it's equally concerning to the airline cockpit and cabin crews whose primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of all passengers.

"Sync up without a delay and perform as an ensemble from their homes. But let's give the listeners a little sample of your work. For folks who aren't already fans, and they'll get here an idea of your wide vocal range for our actives, really, and maybe even more expansive range in terms of musical genres. So this is three songs by other artists that You have performed life. Like a five burning beyond control. Wildest, slow, Johnny. Who is John Lewis, please tell me your mind. I will never do nothing for nobody. No time. Okay, I'm gonna go home now and just play your music for the rest of the show. Um, no, I wish I could. So that was While this love by Nat King Cole, the folk ballad Only West and Jim Crow era vaudevillian Bert Williams Signature song, Nobody Little exception. Those three is there a common thread there for you. Um, well, I'm singing them. But other than that, I think I think all three songs surprised me, and that's what attracted me to them. Uh, You know, a song like, Oh, Me. Woz is it's a murder ballad Wildest love is this uh, this song about all the different places that love can take us The wild places, and nobody is this. Really incredible, comic tragic comic masterpiece by the great Bert Williams. It's a song about caricature and stereotype and Identity and lack. The feeling of lack. So, um, so I don't know. I think there's a yearning in all three songs. I really am drawn toe. That feeling of yearning Listeners would play a little more Cecile McLorin Salvant music before we go out in this segment, But I guess to what? You were just saying you don't turn away from the racism and misogyny in our past. You see what you're doing is transformative or more simply trying to make sure we don't forget. I think maybe there's a little bit of both. I have something in me that I really love to share for gotten gems with people whether it's in music film our visual arts. But I do like how it makes us question. I do like how looking at different eras, different cultures sort of make a question our own and how it rubs up again. Our own values and are in our own way of life. I see that you also do visual art. What do you do? I make really big drawings on silk on breuder drawings of all kinds of things, um, on silk organza, so there's kind of large scale textile works. And I do a little bit of animation. I'm actually working on a feature length animated film, which, if we make it will be the first animated feature film directed by a black woman. Wow. On guy. See that on Instagram? That's Shameful that that would be a first at this point, right, isn't it? But I see on instagram that you've offered a line drawing for other people to color in You know what can people go do and participate in Yeah, I really like doing things collaboratively and seeing where people take my drawings and even my songs. I really want to start writing. Songs for other people, too, because so far it's mostly been knee singing my own songs, but there's something really exhilarating about hearing your music or seeing your work in the hands of someone else. Awesome And you do write your own songs as well will point out the medley. We played Woz of of older works Do they range as widely as the genres that you choose from from outside to sing? I think so. I mean, not sure, but I do. I was brought up in a really eclectic household.

"At your nose is that King Cole has the best one in terms of phrasing pitch, etcetera. How he might be my favorite single malt. Some bargain pretty good, and folks dressed up like Eskimos. Solo racism there in you. It's place that holds turned this racist garbage off canceled. Huh? Boy, I want to get back to the student loan forgiveness thing. Now it was a liberal and pulling institution that that did the pole, but the numbers will shock. You. Okay? I've also got 2020 box office numbers. What does that mean? That fits into the story? Yeah, And I still haven't gotten to 82 new Christmas movies that have come out this year and some of the formulas for Christmas movies movies, which is kinda interesting. So I made a promise I will keep it. The Marist poll is reporting. For the 12th consecutive year. Americans have chosen the most annoying word. Teeth it one for the 12th consecutive year. But we'll count up Jack from the top. Several 9% selected actually. Okay, It's fairly. It's often used by annoying people. Is that a hint as to what is the number one most annoying word? No, I have a guess. 9% is you're on mute. That's a phrase. It's not a word to your friends. That phrase. It's a word. It's word. Okay, Okay, so I'm accepting this, Shawn. The reason we're doing this is I've got a real pleasure before business attitude Right now. There's there needs to be some software that lets you know when you're on mute because you don't know unless somebody tells you He have a little symbol of the mine years. But it's easy to miss not feel and you also, I've had this happen. There are there are sometimes you're on where the host mutant on mute people, Sometimes you mute numb yourself. And then you think the host is on meeting people. So you don't touch it, or you think they forgot. And you do. And then you're going back and forth. You are muted. They muted you and that I've had that I've had that multiple times. Yeah, you know, I'm reminded my daughter a little day. Who? Some of you remember the day she was born. I called him from the hospital She hit send, I guess, yesterday morning Click. Was the end of her college years. Wow. Yeah, Wow! And now she's got an online graduation. Ceremony. So we're going to sit there and look at a laptop and wait for her slide to come up. It's not goal. It's terrible. It's ridiculous. It's Z like paying for a house and getting a picture of one. Well, you get the house, though, and you get the degree, right? She does get the degree whether they have online. Yeah, yeah. I'm gonna sleep. I don't have to put on her shoes and go listen to speeches sitting in an uncomfortable chair like half hours last. It's so disappointing. Second screen experience. You had a game on in the background of some. No, no, no, no, She's gonna be right there with us. So we gotta wait first slide what She wants to watch in the background. So I I guess I gotta sit there with my camera and wait for her slide to come on the screen and then click, click, click, click, Click, didn't have a video in the other hand and videotaping it. There you go. I'll have to ask her what she wants to do. But anyway, moving on just the virtual meeting made me think of that. But can you imagine instead of taking a deep breath and handing in your your final exam? The professor is saying. Thanks. Yeah, have a good summer or whatever. And then you walk back to your dorm or your sorority fraternity. Whatever your your apartment and You breathe deep and maybe cry a little bit and you talk to your friends know it's hit Send what a stranger anyway actually annoying words. 13% cited in my opinion. And again a phrase like 19% cited like like if you want to, like, go out to like Taco Bell and get like a burrito. I'd be like into that. If you've raised teenagers in this era, you have become annoyed by that. But Jack That word is outpaced. Almost 321. By the winning word for the 12th consecutive year. The trouble the trouble. No, Jack, do you think you know what it is? I was gonna go literally. Good guess whatever. Oh, What of her honey? Yeah, I may have use that yesterday. I was very sleep deprived in annoyed and it's it is a useful term meaning? There is no point in further engaging in this argument. Neither one of us will give way and will only raise the level of animosity absolute whatever, whatever, whatever. Whatever, what ends. Interestingly, last year literally was in the top four. That's funny. We just just happened here on one of her radio stations of pro mole running, promoting another show, in which they said they are literally putting the Constitution in a paper shredder. When people say that I really want to assault them, literally. I literally want to assault them. Yes, I have not literally assaulted them, but I'd like to Let's see dude placed high last year as well. No offense, But what's up by my son too big on that trying to convince him that Every time you say that it's followed by something offensive. Yes. Oh, yeah. No, no, I said no offense. You don't understand No pain, but Jack with a sharp object. No, you can't know that doesn't work. See? You not hear what I first said. It's not a vaccine, Shawn. No offense. But you're an idiot. Interestingly, Jack National consensus exists on the dislike of the word, whatever this will bring us together as a people. Republicans, Democrats, independents, communists, Social justice warriors, Millennials boomers, etcetera, Regardless region whatever. It's not to be the most annoying word or phrase 54% in the Northeast side. It 51 in the West 45 in the South 40 in the Midwest. Women are more likely than men by 52 to 42% to a whore. Whatever. Whatever, no offense, but I'm sleeping with your wife, she says Bederman. We all fall short, sometimes 00. That's an unfortunate recall two when he was allegedly betting his best friend's wife, the 2020 box office that would be people that went to the movies and spent money Had revenue fault or 40 Year low. The movie industry is famous for not adjusting for inflation. Yes, that way they can announce exciting new blockbuster records. Every biggest movie of all time. Relax if you adjust for inflation. What will happen to oil & gas?

"There was a strategic move specifically by the Russians to try to undermine the oil and gas industries in the United States and they. Started flooding the market with product and then the Saudis for their own reasons started flooding product in the market. And the whole idea was to try to harm the The. Energy Industry in the United States well, then corona virus came along and devastated the energy industry around the world. and. In the United States. The number of active wells has declined significantly because of that, but this is. That's all temporary and when we get our arms around corona, virus. The oil and gas industries will recover in the United States. But the long term trend is pretty clear. The sources of energy in the United States. As. Well as other places in the world or going through a massive transformation. And so. OIL AND GAS WILL TREND LINE DOWN GRADUALLY Over multiple decades, there's no politician there's no political move that any president or party could do. Oil and gas suddenly be a much bigger player or make evaporate because it is part of how we supply energy in the states and that will content and worldwide and will continue to be regardless of the advances in technology and in particular with transportation. The long term trend though is completely clear and that is the role of oil and natural gas. Or going to decline as the way we fuel vehicles going to electric possibly some with hydrogen is. It's GonNa Happen. There's nothing that's going to stop it because everything follows the money. And that is something beyond what any politician can influence take so. So we're now. In much of the world including much of the United States is the cheapest form of power that exists. And so whether a politician wants so were or not. It doesn't matter because the marketplace ultimately rules when is growing steadily, coal is shrinking and natural gas as a very important role to play. In the energy supply of the United States for industry factories and homes office buildings as well, and that will continue for years to come, but the way we get energy. Is For all types Gradually going to steadily change, and it's one of those things that can slips up on us. I think about what's going on in Australia. which had been really the home of King, Cole? And now. In the state of South Australia, if you know you're Australian geography, South Australia. Recently has been getting one hundred percent. Of. Its energy. For homes and businesses from solar. and. It's because it's the cheapest way to generate energy and in that part of Australia more than one in three homes have solar on their homes because it saves them so much money. So anytime, you talk about a big shift and how society works. It's always about following the money in our case, following the dollars and cents, and the way we produce energy and what form of energy we. Is going through a very clear transition. And it means that we have to make sure that the workers and the industries that will gradually shrink. Are. Not left stranded that they have really solid job training available for them for the jobs of the future. As the jobs of the present and the past steadily shrink.

Reassessing Your Onboarding Process

"Podcast. Hope guys doing really well. We are really cold in mountain. It's being freaking king cole the since yesterday melbourne with part is going to get better but to nala peak. It's getting worse <hes> until i think for the next few as as a weeks <hes> not feeling material but it's been pretty cool day. I want to share something with you guys today right so <hes> something which we we learned or i learned to longtime ago spotted the part of this process working for corporations and <hes> which we apply in our business as well see <hes> a lot of people. Have you acquire climbing to end. There is no process in place way you get the client to get started so so my <hes> the way we do it is the way i learned is you must have some sorta on boarding process with the client throughout so one of the things you must have any business as as when you klein too when you're donald when you prospect to become a client what are you must do right so there are certain things so what we do which really helps says says what we teach as well one of the things you must have. Is you always you always always always always tell your client or your prospect when you acquire them <hes>. What is the next step. What is the next step right so the next step might be. We'll give you call next week or expect an email from me. What is the next step for bad when you onboard somebody or when you actually accept money from somebody they are feeling kind of in that space that they don't actually know what can happen a light show you quite somebody and you don't actually know what's going to happen. They don't actually know what can happen. You might have something in your mind how you do it so they have no clue at their mclean a working as an external. They lost the don know what's going to happen what they're looking for. A heavily spent money at the right place. I am i working with the right team. Am i working with the right company. <hes> anything you don't do it but be bling that lim bush space way of the don what's going to happen which is really kind of a bad thing for you. That's where people have this. Ah buyer's remorse usc season with the scottish think hang on a second. I need to go back and rethink the decision. I made rights to really really really important you. You must must must must tell them the next step rights for example if you sold them you'll program. You must tell them what's going to happen next ride. They must expect something from you. Either you say hang on <unk>. A call from my team member would accept the call from me. Let's book called together and we'll go through it. Something something you must have it any must get it done within a couple of days if you don't do it within a couple of days than same thing biser most kicks in the other thing you must be mindful of that and we really really what is the motivation level at what is a skill set level for people right so when you onboard somebody some people you'll find a ueli really really enjoyed right so their motivation is high. That confidence is i. Their skill set is pretty cool. They're ready for it. They just want to jump on and do the work right so they're there and some people you'll find you know the confidence pretty good after you workshop after you couldn't <unk> confidence is pretty good but the skill set and and is pretty low right skill set and the motivation is kind of okay okay rise up. You must have something in place for that kinda clients as well because you don't want to overwhelm them everything and also you don't wanna seldom something a little as well right so means that you don't only give them tiny bitch up. It's derail important. You understand the level of motivation for those people if you don't understand it some time it's really hard to get the balance right right so you don't don't wanna lose decline after the year. That's the worst thing you can do right so because you have gone through pool says she of donald hard work nal. You have acquired the clients. Just this tiny little bit species at the end. You must execute a this is what you must do right so number. One thing is you must have an on boarding checklist accurist. How'd you onboard people into your business who one of the things they must have to do. All day should do to be bought of this right. They should get access to of this. They should get access to you know whatever so you must have. This and everybody in the company should follow this. If you're the only one today you should follow this ride daunte. Keep anything in your mind. I promise you you'll forget a promise. You'll forget because you're gonna get busier. You're going to get really really really really busy with the staff ride. Some of the things what can happen is you can forget and these kind of stuffy you do not want to forget you must follow everything as it says in the checklist and you opted the checklist and when you have a star when you have people working for you. You'd we just hand them to them. In our company we could stop front. We got a couple of people are in overseas bay romp through this. They do step-by-step grinding people access to certain stuff right so they do the work and it makes it really really easy joe initially. It's going to be hard right. You don't know what to do but you must put something. In place so on voting is one of the on thing you'll do today. We just on border declined and i had to have a meeting with them just to walk them through the pros. Roles says what's expected wide. What's going to happen next what they must expect next. What am i expecting from them right so you must also tell them your expectation because if you don't they wouldn't have no clue so this is what happens right. Shaw people come from donald. They don't know how you book doc. They have no clue what you're works. Ethics all other things look like within your business. Your staff might be aware of that. You might be aware of that that but external have no clue so your job is to educate them. How things can happen how things going to work. How things work in your business business and when you tell them believe me they appreciated they'll feel happy about it and once they feel happy about it. You're gonna have a happy client right so on boating process. Es must have if you don't have it put it together on speed small.

"Most pianists were not vocalist like you're talking like NAT king Cole. You're talking about Rachel's not Oscar Peterson just being not not too many would have done both right and gotten that level of recognition. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. These days day in a crawls probably about the closest to you would get to that. Exactly. That makes sense. Yeah. Also had the same kind of career at this diversion. She was she got her. She was a piano student at Berkeley college of music in Boston. And I'm going to go out to be absolutely sure. But I was pretty sure 'cause it was right down the road where I was. And someone said to her, you know, if you're gonna wanna make it anywhere, you're gonna have to learn to sing. And now and now her singing is what everyone knows her for because he's got a very distinctive style. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Diana Krall, classify three from Berkeley college music there. Yeah. Yeah. So it's it's it's funny that these people trained is instrumentals I adapted to be singers. And that's what people more people know them for. Yeah. Remember, how I talked about how she was being regarded well by the upper crust and the white audiences and everything well that started to change a little bit in the nineteen sixties because as it turns out, it was an active time for the civil rights movement. And while she'd always had strong feelings about this. She kind of suppress them in her art reluctant to get have it get in the way sharing that chain that changed dramatically in the nineteen sixties. So got four four songs listed that. We're known for her to be famous in that period. Nineteen sixty three after Medgar Evers was assassinated and the church bombing killed four girls in Birmingham, Alabama. She wrote a song became this other wanna call it or anthem, but probably most recognized protest song Mississippi goddamn. Yes. Yes. That's that song as a real punch to the gut. It is. Absolutely. Yeah. And and and and she'll interject a little bit of humor along the way that you thought I was kidding. So that was I call that one of the beginning because it was banned on the radio and a lot of places. So was four women which was a song about African American archetypes brought on by society, the society, which they were living on a lot of people thought it was a racist song because she was speaking to some of the stereotypes that had been present in song literature, you know, about descendants of slaves and people biracial people not being able to fit in a beautiful song. But but misunderstood. Yeah. She was friends with the playwright Lorraine. Hanes bury her most. Yes, we do in the sun raising the sun. So in hens berry of raisin in the sun died in nineteen sixty five she was only thirty four they were friends throughout this period. And she wrote a song called to be young gifted and black which is which is often a description used for Nina Simone herself. And and after Martin Luther King junior's assassination her based player. Greg Taylor wrote a tune called y parentheses the king of love is dead. She then performed believe at festivals in the time that followed. So this marked the period where society basically start to turn on her for being a person with a character and beliefs and. Yeah. No. You can't have opinion. Initially, Actually, if if you're you're woman. if you're black bomb. Yeah. Exactly. And so her fame and presence in the United States decrease. It also turned out that she wasn't paying her taxes. I did hear about she. She claimed this was a protest against the Vietnam war..
