"So that's what happened. Kay said, plucking another piece of bread from the shelf. I still get to heat my lens and castle and title. I'm still at night. I still have all my dad's wealth, and I can hang out around here if I don't go upstairs, but this just feels like the worst thing that has ever been done to someone ever. You know what I'm saying? Kay said, between bites, the cook, the kitchen bustling around them, on our 16 of their 18 hour workday, said that that was terrible. Just terrible. Yeah, Casey said. Then looked at the cook's face. Hey. How long have you had an eye patch? The woman said a three months, 89 days actually? Okay, said that. That's specific. The woman nod. Yeah, you tend to remember when you lose an eye. Case it up, bummer. Was it like steam and stuff? I don't know how cooking works. The woman's other eye looked up, and then back decay. Cake asked. What? Did she do this to you? The woman said her nights and some of the barons, but this is the 6th century. It is very legal to beat servants, especially if they're 5 minutes late with your dinner, but they weren't really because once again, this is the 6th century in clocks don't exist. Kay looked from side to side, and then told her to count to 20, and then follow him into the storeroom. He had an idea. Oh, my good hermit priest. I need to tell wait are you a priest or a monk? Monk, the monk, Arthur met in the Woods on his hunting trip said. King Arthur nodded, and continued. My good hermit monk. I need God's help. My wife needs God's help. Arthur said, breaking out in the tears. Would the monk hear his confession? And offer him the sacraments? The monk nodded. Absolutely on the confession. Hard pass on the sacraments, though. Others said, what? The monk asked if Arthur had remembered getting any messages from the Pope? Maybe about, I don't know. Casting his wife out on paper, thin accusations? Are they said that for some reason the last year ish had gotten a little hazy for him? But maybe? They had a trial and all that. People kill each other, it was all above board. The monk said, be that as it may. He knew that Arthur's queen and a number of her knights and barents had fallen ill. They were unable to rise from bed. He also knew that the stink of their infections kept everyone out of the castle at this time. I heard it was a punishment from God, K interjected. The little rumor he planted at the start of the queen's illness was now in full bloom, with him being back in the king's good graces. Also, Arthur was so drugged up on whenever his grima worm tongue of a fake wife had been giving him that he didn't even remember firing K when when? Except for Arthur who was now being excommunicated. What? Why? Arthur blurted. The monk said it was he just told him. It was deserting his lawful wife. Without approval. Arthur asked how this nobody monk knew who his lawful wife was. And then took a smug sip out of his wine skin. Definitely not setting himself up for an embarrassing reveal. The monk said that he would know guinevere anywhere. He had been a priest in Leo dagon's kingdom, and he had seen guinevere at mass since she was a girl. He could tell the difference between the two guinevere's. Arthur needed to return to the church. And if his divorce was ruled to be legal, then everything would resolve itself. Arthur bowed low and said that he agreed to this. He wanted to return to the church. After he got back in his horse, and made preparations to return to Camelot immediately, Kate got a top his own horse. And turned to the monk. Really cool you to pop by two years ago during the very public trial and lend your expert opinion. Really? The monk asked? You want to pull the finally getting around to doing the right thing thread? Decay really want to see how that unraveled?.

"How would you say your performance has been over the last 16 years? The night sat across the table from K, Arthur's brother, and seneschal. His second in command, and the one who oversaw his household. Case said that on the whole, very good. Had Arthur been wounded, yes, but not mortally, had the queen committed long-term treason and still escaped with her life? It happens. Had the most important person in their world, King Arthur, being kidnapped multiple times on his watch. Sure, but the last time was them, right? You're with her, right? The queen? You're one of her nights? Case stated? The night took a deep breath. There's no easy way to say this except by someone who doesn't like you, which is most people, including me, we're letting you go, okay. The night said. Kay rose from the table on whose order, the queen doesn't have this type of authority. The night show K the paper signed in Arthur's hand. Case said that this was absurd. He was going to see his brother. As he thudded on the stones, Arthur's room, Kaye realized that had been some time since he had seen Arthur, weeks, months, his brother had always been available to him, but that changed when she came along. It was a slow change at first. She started replacing more of Arthur's guards with her own than advisers, Arthur didn't seem to care. In fact, he was happy to give her a larger role in the government than her predecessor. He was just pappy in general. At first, now, as K, the former seneschal looked on his brother, sitting up in bed, he noticed that Arthur looked listless. Glassy eyed. His mouth hung open, and his eyes looked at K, but Arthur didn't see him. He begged Arthur not to let him go, they were brothers. The queen stirred up next to Arthur and whispered in his ear. The king pointed at K and mumbled a remove him from the castle and the guards obeyed. K shook his head and stepped back. He swatted away the guards and.

"The creature this week is the from Haitian and Dominican folklore, the segue in Haiti. Our type of tiny people like action figure doll sized. And they're looking for love. Sorry, I should be clear. They're looking for people who are in love to murder. The creatures can be male or female. And if a female sagua, chances on a couple saying, quote, loving words to one another, males die. And if a males a guava finds the couple, females die. It's just instant death upon seeing the creature, though, so as far as angering a jealous creature of the week goes, it's not a terrible way to go. That's the one from Haiti. The Dominican ones are all female with a, quote, mane of hair down to her ankles, though her victims are traditionally men, should learn anyone into the forest. Seduce them, and then, yes, kill them. Not sure if she is also very tiny, which brings up more questions, but moving on. You can avoid being eaten by an attractive monster in the forest by not following the attractive monster into the forest. If you're wondering which attractive monsters are okay to follow, well, first, your kind of already asking the wrong question, but this agua's feet are facing the wrong way, which apparently makes her impossible to track. Unless you follow the trail backwards, which is not so much impossible as one extra step you have to do. If for some reason, you want to meet the Dominican sequa, stand by the ocean and call out her name. And you'll be pretty much instantly pulled out to sea and drowned. Because that's what she does. If you'd like to try to catch her, you'd have to track her at night during a full moon with a black and white polydactyly dog, so a dog with an extra toe on its Paul. Just be careful not to look at her in the eye or you'll be bewitched permanently, or here's a fun idea. Don't track a murderous woman in the dark forest at night and put both your life and the life of an innocent 5 toed puppy at risk. That's it for this week. "They rescued Leo dagon, of course, and the old king was happy he had declared for Arthur, a few months later, guinevere officially met the man who would become her husband, when her father had her serve the king herself. It wasn't hurt by the fact that Arthur was winning the war by sheer luck, or wizards. The saxons had landed in the kingdoms of the rebels. They were now fighting a war on two fronts, and the choice between a boy king who promised clemency and invaders from the continent who wanted to strip their kingdom for parts. According to the story, wasn't much of a choice. Most of the barons declared for Arthur, and the kid was now the only moderately disputed king of the Britons. Leo dagon, of course, used all of this to maneuver himself into the best of all possible positions. He barely needed to do anything. One of you remembered the man who routed the enemies in their time of need, and Arthur was captivated by her at that dinner. The two started writing letters to one another and Arthur started reportedly losing some battles because he was daydreaming of guinevere, and everyone was happy. Well, everyone picked guinevere. Not are one of your, of course. For now, are going to be here the princess was over the moon. It was her wedding day after all. Arthur was victorious in all of his wars, the barons had been pacified the saxons routed. For the first time since old king Constantine, Arthur's grandfather, the island was at peace. And by the way, at this point, we're still like 15 years out from our current narrative. Anyway, on the day of her wedding, one of your was confused by a message. She was to meet someone in the garden. They had a secret about her future husband that she should know. One of you walked by the great room. In the months leading up to the wedding, Arthur had to decide on a formal seat of power. He settled on a fortress surrounded by a walled town that overlooked the sea. It was called Camelot. One of your father had gifted it to the new king. Along with the curious new table, Arthur said with a cough, as they dusted off the table, yeah, it's around table. Leo dagon said with a grin. Now yeah, I get what you're saying. It's round and it's a table. It's the symbolism le a dragon set. Everyone who sits at this table is an equal. It's to represent your new order of knights. But like, I'm the king. I actually outrank everyone. I don't get the appeal. Arthur said, believe it I can say it's about the optics. This will be like his war room, and it's showing that he values expertise and the advice of his own knights. Even over his own authority, it's good PR. Trust me, they're gonna love this. Then Leo dagon felt the Tapping on his shoulder. He bowed to his king and turned. What? Leo dog embarked at guinevere, who smiled to Arthur. Couldn't bear said that she received a strange message this morning and okay, you're gonna be queen, deal with it on your own. I'm trying to explain a round table. Leo dugan said to guinevere Arthur snapped his fingers and a page rushed up to him. The young man told the younger man to find Merlin. If his betrothed thought that something was strange, well, Merlin was their resident expert in strange. By the time the page realized that neither he nor anyone he spoke to could find Merlin, Arthur was in the middle of nighting this year's group of knights. Namely, Gawain. One of you put the message out of her mind..

Who Was Warlord Vortigern?
"Island of great britain was originally an island that was inhabited by celtic peoples. It was later occupied by roman became a roman province yet. The people who live on the island didn't end up speaking a celtic or romance language. They ended up speaking a language that belong to the germanic family of languages. The following story. A might have had something to do with how that happened. More on that in a bit the events in question date back to the late fifth century. This is a period of british history. That has some major holes. The roman empire had collapsed and nothing had really risen to take its place. There are many warlords and kings who vied for power. This was the period of time. When according to legend king arthur would have ruled so pretty much everything from this period is kind of questionable one of the rulers at that time was a warlord named voter turn. He was the leader of the britons in the wake of the roman collapse from what accounts we are told. He got to his position via a lot of duplicity and skulduggery supposedly. He had worked his way into a position of influence with the romans took advantage of that to usurp the throne the to rightful heirs. Were a pair of young brothers named or really ascend brosius and author and they were sent overseas for their education ford gern. Having assumed the throne had a hard time holding onto power he was constantly dealing with incursions from the picks and the scots and the north he was also dealing with the potential of an armada joining the two brothers to take back the throne. his solution to deal with. These problems was to hire mercenaries. Hiring mercenaries wasn't necessarily a bad idea it had been done throughout history with various levels of success. Forty gern contract out the work to to saxon brothers by the name of hen. Gist and horsa. They would bring in dramatic mercenaries to fight off the picks and the scots on behalf of the britain king in exchange for their services voltigeur offered this accents. Dev Patel Conquers 'The Green Knight'
"And the Green Knight is a poem from the Middle Ages, And it's one of the best known stories that are part of the Legend of King Arthur. The poem tells the tale of Sir Gawain, a knight of the round table and one Christmas, the mysterious green Night approaches and issues this challenge. Let whichever of your nights his boldest of blood and wildest of parts. Step forth, Take up arms and try with honor to London blow against me. Gawain accepts I will do it. I won't meet him. And uses his one blow to slice off the green Nights head upon this Christmas dates. What happens after that is the basis for the new movie. The Green Knight Dev Patel plays going, but he's a stripped down version of the legend. For one thing in the movie Grain is not yet a night so so not a night kind of this. Young, headstrong nephew of King Arthur. Um, so we find him. You know, in a brothel at the start of the film, and he's got quite the attitude. And you watch him make a lot of mistakes. And you, you hope By the end of this story, he will do the honourable thing, whereas in the old kind of story, he's very chaste and honorable right from the get go, his less flawed in a way in this version, he is very much flawed and has a lot to prove. And what do you hope to gain? Facing all of this. Yes. Hugh. Honor When Dev Patel and I spoke the other day, he told me to script cast a spell over him for days, and that he very much personally related to young Wayne's journey. As a young actor. You're Constantly questioning what you're doing and what it all means. And at what cost is it, you know, and the journey you know the beauty of this journey, so for me I could really Relate to this young man who was really ambitious and and thirsty to belong amongst these greats at the round table, I kind of felt

"The creature. This time is the from india. The wii c. h. Is a little gentleman cat who wears a white hat just adorable like many creatures of the week and normal cats the yak likes to get into stuff. He shouldn't cause mischief. People generally ignore the creature. I guess thinking that it's pranks to innocuous trouble themselves over. But if you wanna mandatory friend for life well the yet can be that for you. I mean it is a friend that's always plotting against you for their freedom as all good friends do so if you are somehow able to sneak up on the steal their white hat. The cow become your servant for as long as able to maintain possession of the hat which. I don't know. I don't need that kind of stress in my life. Making the creature serve. You is really kind of a mixed bag though because while it can go. Rob people piled golden. Your house is it apparently did for one family. You pretty much have to keep track of that for the rest of your life because once again like he did for one family. The cat stole back the gold he stole for the family and then some the instant he was freed. You can keep the hat safe though because while this cat can shape shift and according to one source actually move. Mountains can't lift even the fragments of millstone. And i know those are so common now. The you won't have any problem finding one and if you put the hat underneath it that is the only way you can keep the hat safe. I think the whole thing will just turn you and your family members or roommates in paranoid rex though because like what someone gonna do if the cat shows up in your form asking them to go to your room and get that tiny hat out from under the chunk of rock. You'll always need to be on your guard from someone who can take the form of anyone you know. I'm not sure why people think it's harmless either. Because one of its pranks is taking. The form of some one person knows and waking that person up and asking for their kangari or their fire pot full of hot coals. The cat will return the kindness by emptying out the hot coals on the giver. The only way to thwart this prank at the at the coals on him. I and i just hope it's not a family member or roommate. If you do that he'll scream all manner of curses and chase after you like some vampires. The cat can't cross a flowing stream. So that's how you can get away. Just never return home though because you have an angry shape shifting cat after you. That can move mountains. Though most of my experiences with non-magical cats have helped me to see that they don't need any extra incentive to be surly and hold a grudge. That's this week. Myths and legends is by jason. They they were holding up a sheet over the head of the king all. He dipped his calves in the river. Things had slowed down. Since conqueror arthur became king. Arthur joined the round table. They said go on adventures. They said they're only adventure. As arthur's personal guard was to watch the king dip his sweaty feet and varicose veins. Cavs and the water so we could cool off on his trip to the castle of the dolorous guard sir night. What be or name. A voice yelled out from the other side of the river. All three men looked up to see a white haired night on his horse lance out. I i'm not a night. Arthur said i'm king arthur. C the crown. Hey where's my crown. The night beside him lowered the sheet and whispered into his ear or not crowns backed away. But i'm king arthur. Who are you the night near behind his face mask. I'm the night that's going to kill you. The night lowered is lance and charge the hapless king. Arthur splashed up from the river and then paused. Oh the attacking night. Misjudge the depth of the river. His horse was swimming with him on top of it. It was like he was riding. Through molasses arthur settled back down on the riverbank. Dina's feedback in. He looked up to his knight's still holding the sheet on sticks above his head. Well get that guy. The nights nodded. Yes they dropped the sheet and wait it out into the water. The horse was close closing in on the shallows. Arthur watched his two nights waiting through the water and the first one they are grabbed the typical lands wrenching it from the hand of the attacker. The there was honest tippy toes in grabbing distance of the horse's bridle the tacking nate shrieked and turned his horse. Kicking out at the night one night held out the attackers lance arthur gave him a thumbs up. Hey good job. The other was considering following the night. Don't do that you're in full armor. You'll drown comeback here. Arthur commanded in the night obeyed as the nights drip dried. They held up their armored gauntlets. Making a fist. No one attacks their king with impunity. They will take a whole team of nights and go after the attacker. No you'll pick up that sheet and hold it. It's hot out here. It's one guy and frankly he didn't seem all that dangerous. Arthur said that this was the clumsy est attempt on his life and he had been through a lot of them. You're staying here. Are commanded the to nightside picked up the sticks with a sheet on them and.

"Are you sure you're coming back. The boys squire and page said to him. They found a small shack. Mushed spend the night about thirty leagues so about one hundred miles outside of no hot. The boy aren't night crouch down. Oh yeah champ. i'll be back. It's gotta run out for a pack of smokes. The squires looked at each other the but the night said he had to run out for some charcoal so they could smoke the meat. They hunted earlier that day. Don't worry though. I'll be back in a jiffy but the squire smiled. They had the best night and he had the best helpers by guys he was about thirty miles away before they had an inkling that he might not be coming back. The boy was a strange one. He wanted to earn his honors especially after being knighted into the most prestigious order of all time but he didn't want his reputation preceded him. He wanted to learn job to job and truly be the best of all time. He could live without squires because he couldn't have them whispering to different servants nobles at each stop spreading the word about him. He was on his own. He was ready and okay. Sorry who are you. The boy stop his horse in the night in front of him stopped his the night in front of him. Said it didn't matter turn back. The boy wrinkled his brow. What now you turn back the night set up in his saddle steering up to nowhere in particular. He said he couldn't do that. He had been tasked with guarding the river. No-one may cross. It was his sacred duty. The boy tried to go around him but the night again turned his horse to block. The boy finally sat back okay so then. It was just guarding this particular crossing river. The boy side river. What are you worried. Achilles gonna pop by no nothing. It was a joke. He fought a river. never mind. i'll just go upstream and crossed there. The boy turned to ride. But the night only mirrored him splashing in the ford. Do it see what happens. You know what. I'll tell you what happens i'll fight you upstream a fight you downstream. I'll fight well actually. Those are the only two ways. So yeah a fight you. But why are you guarding alone. River in the middle of nowhere. The boy asked night laughed. The boy had a lot to learn about being a night at looked like the older night was going to have to teach him a lesson so he got down from his horse. Fired up the projector and started up his powerpoint presentation in the fourteenth century nights with guard key. Travel spots like gates crossroads and river crossings. They would sit there waiting for another night to arrive against whom they could test their strength. It was an issue of honor. And if a night didn't have a horse or armor one might be provided to him but if he chose not to fight he would have to leave his spurs as a token of humiliation. This practice only lasted a couple hundred years until peasants realized they could just start sniping at exposed nights with long bows but it's kind of all over the place in the story of king arthur and his knights but isn't this like the seventh century. The boy asked. Why are we doing something. That wouldn't become a thing for seven hundred years. This is more removed than saying. Like abraham lincoln tweeted out the gettysburg address. The night clicked over to a slide. That said anachronism just get over it because it's everywhere in the medieval sources closed his laptop and mounted his horse. So for the honor of queen gwen aveer. He would hold this for against all other nights. The boy rolled his eyes and put on his helmet. Then paused wait. Did the night. Just say.

"The lady of no hot grimaced. Wow what was that. Did anyone else smell that. Her night shook their heads then another walked into the expansive hall to announce the visitor. They all immediately knew the source of the horrid smell. The boy stood in the room with a cock eyebrow. He said that he was here from king arthur's court to rescue her. She held up a handkerchief to her nose. Had he taken a bath he wreaked. The boy said that he had been traveling so it was just washing his face and hands each morning followed by his two twig. Pretty standard stuff. Why did he smell. The woman waved to her servants. Who approached the night and helped him unless his armor when it was off they saw the source of the smell the wound he had gotten fighting for the woman on the island was infected in raking. Why didn't you wash. That lady of noha yelled throwing up in her mouth. It hurt. the boy yelled back. The woman said. Yeah it's a stab wound. It's going to hurt kenny. Even move that arm. The point nodded and wiggled a shoulders dangling. It doesn't count the lady said then. No the boy replied. The woman nodded. All right get to bed. But i this i come for him. She held out a sword. The boys sword it arrived before you did from the queen herself the lady. No hot informed him when it came to wrapping up. his quests. the ones that he started last week after the boys unintentional kidnapping of the first lady you followed up with a giant seven foot tall night that was guarding the sleeping lady. Last episode they got in a fight because of course they did and despite his injuries the boy one and kind of problematically took possession of yet another lady to ladies that he had now breathe the sigh of relief when they learned that they were going to be the ladies in waiting for queen gwen of herself and in sending them along. The boy asked for one more thing. He wanted to be girded with the sword from the queen not the king he was her night and it was only fitting that she should night him. He told her that if she chose to do this to please in the sword to know hot now. He was awestruck that she did it. He was her night. He picked up the sword that a few days ago have been held by the queen for a brief moment. It felt like they were together. The boy was reluctant to take some are but the lady of no hot was the boss. He was lucky for two reasons. First he didn't lose the arm and second. The conqueror was a relaxed enough guy to give the lady a further two weeks for her champion to recover. Maybe he was really confident that he was gonna win. Maybe he was really bad at his job. Who knows the boys. Convalescence did earn him. The attention of king arthur. Who over a month. After he sent the boy out to rescue the lady of no hot learn that she was still in fact under siege. He sent the man who was essential and his adopted brother k. Out to see what the holdup was since he is an obsessed with a one hundred percent completion score on every quest. He made it in two days without a mangled arm there. He found the boy getting dressed for battle and demanded know what was going on. Why did he take so long and explained his trip there and is mandatory bedrest mom over there said he couldn't go fight with his arm which was just a little stinky and dead k. Grimaced you shouldn't fight like that case that the boy was obviously inexperienced and he was taking control of this he k will be fighting as the ladies champion. The boy gripped is lance over. His dead body k. Was guys seriously you wanna fight each other to see who can fight the attackers night. The lady of no hot asked her head lolling back and frustration. Managing these nights was like looking after a kindergarten class with swords. Fight them together and of discussion. The lady of no hot demanded please. It's been a month. He might be bad at conquering but he was really good at siege craft also part of his deal it can be one v one to two and so on get out there seriously. The boy in cake groaned fine. They could share. The battle went quickly. The boy was such a hotshot that when his guy started to fall. He offered to help out k. K. and his opponent both of their horses having died because two guys in armor were racing at each other with spears. Finished up the fight quickly. After that to find the boy standing over his surrendering opponent. It was done. No hot have been rescued from. Its admittedly very chill conqueror. Since he was an honorable warlord. The king of northumbria agreed that since two guys lost in a battle to two other guys he would leave and never hasselblad of no hot ever again. The lady of no hot though did one a hassle somebody k. Was out of there the next morning. Being second banana to a newbie wasn't his idea of an honor and if they could just take his name out of the credits that would be fantastic. The boy however stuck around to bask in the afterglow for the feast in the parade in the tournament and as he noticed the lady of no hot staring at him intensely through all of that he decided that it was time for him to go before she can announce yet. Another feast for their champion. He announced that he was a night and a knight's got an errand. It was on the road about a mile out that she finally just came out and said it offering the young man quote her land and herself as he might wish but he politely declined and urge to source onto a trot. A gallup and no eye contact eventually.

Arthur did say you were super good looking like could be a statue good looking and then the queen really wanted to see the new guy. Arthur was already three goblets deep. What was that smell. And moaning eve anger mus. Don't worry about that. It was just this this whole ridiculous quest. The queen was up one more floor. It was one of the highest rooms in the tower. The hallway was filled with the sweet smell of perfumes and beautiful tapestries. Everyone's getting ready for mass. So you'll have to be quick. Vein said in opened the door. The room was magnificent with the sounds of the ocean accompanied by warm sunlight hitting all manner of paintings and decorations. But the boy didn't notice the room. The woman's ladies in waiting were beautiful every night and the kingdom stopped and bowed low for them when they passed he didn't notice the ladies he only noticed her. There in the center of the room stood the queen. Gwen aveer and the boy knew that whether he liked it or not. His life was changed forever. On this day. There would always be a before and after this moment there would always be her. The woman's voice seem to sing out with a question for the boy and it took a third repetition for him to actually realize that she was talking to him. And even then it wasn't her voice that ralston from thought. My wife asked you what your name was. The boy heard the gruff male voice. Ask him he was suddenly aware that king arthur was there sitting next to his wife. How long's he been there. The boy was fourteen but found. That vein wasn't standing next to him. Obviously you've said he spoke. The language by the way goal was a roman name for modern day. France luxembourg belgium switzerland and other places but was right. The boy was from brittany just across the channel to the south of france. The queen took the boy's hand and the tech says it was like he was awakened. It was like everything in his life. Have been leading up to this moment. She asked again what his name was and again. He said he didn't know even stepped in. It probably wasn't anything personal. Maybe he was just like forbidden from telling anyone his name. You know late stuff in truth. This wasn't out of the ordinary in this time in these legends. Names hell type of power. If someone new your christian name they might have a level of control over you. Still when the king and queen ask your name you should tell them your name. They could tell though that this boy was high born and arthur at already promised tonight him. The boy was so caught. Up in gwen of your smile that he was standing in the hallway before he even realized he wasn't in her presence anymore. Wow was all the boy could say. You've aim patted him on the back. Well yeah that went terribly but hey no place to go but up right now. Hopefully as they were walking back down the stairs they once again cover their noses when they passed one floor. The boy took one look at the heavy oak door and pushed his way through. He found his way into the infirmary. Cleared out for all but one night. The boy almost throughout from the smell. You've ain't did throw up. And the boy ventured into the room to see the man and all of his editions. The man lan abed blood and pus. Leaking from his wounds. Protruding from his wounds. were eros daggers. And there was half of a sword sticking out of his head the other half going through his head. The night sat up causing the leaking blood and pusta scored a little bit. He waved to the boy. How's it going. The boy shook his head. How how's it going what what is going on. How is this knight's still alive. Who did this to him. The man laughed kitchen. See the other guy. The boy asked if it was worse. How could it possibly be worse though while he's dead for one the night replied wincing as he laid back down the dagger at aside slicing him a little bit more. So why don't you just take the weapons out of your body ingrained because he hadn't found a night brave enough for the task. The boy nodded yet. Looked pretty gross. The man said that that wasn't it. There were terms attached to it. The boy shook his head terms. The terms were vengeance. Whoever pulled out these weapons would have to do his utmost to avenge the night on all those that said they had greater love for the man who did this to him than they had for him. The boy thought about it. That actually didn't seem so bad. Sure he would. He would not be doing anything. You vein interrupted finally able to compose himself and entered the room. He grabbed the boy by the arm. He wasn't even a night yet. Even the squire evening yelled backed. The man in the bed. The man grown. Oh well take him away. He couldn't survive the terms anyway. The boy's shoulders slumped. He made his way to the stairwell. We'll see this boy come to terms with life in camelot. But that we'll be right after this. Imagine this a tool that helps you sleep. Roller Skates And Atomic Power
"Charles baggage would dream up the analytical engine which most people agree was the first automatic digital computer famously. His friend at a lovelace was considering badges computer when she published what was basically the first computer program now. The actual computer wouldn't be created during their lifetimes but they're well planned ideas. We're enough to change the world. Don't get me wrong. You wouldn't have been able to play minecraft or among us or even solitaire on a computer like this or anything but it was a pretty radical idea and like many young people who go on to do great things. Babich was inspired by some pretty creative people. One man in particular comes crashing into mind when he was a young boy badges mother wishing to nurture his curiosity and fascination with mechanical things took him to visit a short older and quite unusual man. John joseph merlin. Now if you live in england and your name is merlin people might expect you to be some sort of wizard and while this merlin contrast spells or shape shift and he had certainly never counseled any mythical kings like king arthur. He was a wizard in his own ways. By this time he was approaching the end of his life but he had remained pretty famous around england for decades. You have a hard time finding a man who had created quite so many unusual inventions. And you'd also have a hard time finding a man who knew how to make an entrance and get noticed in quite the way that merlin could first off. He was an inventor of automata but he was also one of the most prolific inventors in all of europe. If you've listened to our episode mechanical monsters you probably recall the basics of what goes into an automaton. If you haven't listened to that episode well. It is our most popular so consider this an invitation in short an automaton is a mechanical device often resembling a living creature which through years and finely tuned pieces can create movements that mimic something like life. Think of it like an early robot. They were wildly popular at the time and they didn't even really do anything they were just like cool to look at in some ways. People never change and they love good amusement and automata were the pinnacle of impressive amusement in the seventeen. Hundreds one of merlin's earliest creations was a collaboration with a mentor of his. It was called the silver swan and unlike many of the automata from the seventeen hundreds. This one still works the shiny. Silver swan bobs. Its head on. Its long neck cranes over its shoulders and ultimately catches a fish which it appears to swallow before nestling back into its wing to watch it now and consider all of the mechanical movements and all the time spent making each articulated piece still amazing in the seventeen hundreds it would have been mind blowing and these sorts of things. Slow badges young mind during this. Visit the world changer. To be sought some of these enlightenment era robots but also saw invention after invention mechanical curiosities. And some of merlin's favorite creations. Instrument's it was obvious to merlin that. This boy showed an aptitude. He dripped with potential and he burned with desire to understand more so the man suggested to his mother that they all visit his private up which was not something. The general public got to cast their eyes upon. This must have made quite an impression. Because years later after merlin at passed away his collection was sold and the now adult badge bought a few of the eccentric. Man's unfinished atop and finish them himself in sort of a tribute to the genius. Who showed him kindness and knowledge at a young age. Of course this meeting was towards the end of merlin's life when he was a younger man he wasn't so famous and he didn't have a museum filled with his creations

"Happy Birthday Week. While we're all at home in the new normal feeling anything but normal the one thing worth celebrating life itself the pandemic has shown us just how fragile and beautiful life is the veneer of invincibility that we built up over. The last decades has been stripped away in an instant. We're now learning what we always have known but not acted upon which is the each day's precious and magical and that we can't take anything most especially health and the health of our planet for granted in that spirit of adventure. There's one place in San Francisco I've been trying to explore for nearly twenty years. The remote Farallon islands thirty miles off the Golden Gate Bridge on a clear day. You can see this. Cluster of three main islands from the shore. But here's the catch. They closed to the public. Because the farallones one of the largest seabird colonies in the nation the islands also hosts two seals great white sharks and many different species of whale. The farallon islands national wildlife refuge is one of sixty three such refugees around the country and the waters surrounding. The islands are protected as part of the great farallones National Marine Sanctuary for decades point Blue Conservation Science Petaluma based research organization whose mission is to conserve birds wildlife and ecosystems through innovative science partnerships and outreach his continuously had teams of scientists located on the Farallon's point blue has a formal research agreement with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Every few weeks point blue works with local boat owners who volunteer to resupply the Farallon scientists with food. I was lucky enough to tag along for the ride. I get on the boat. The outer limits in Sao Salida and we begin our journey. I'm joined by Pete Wolsey Buck who's point blue's senior marine ecologist and spent more time on the islands than anyone else on the planet while still on the boat. I stopped by asking Pete. Exactly how long point blue has been conducting research on the Pharisees? Yeah point blue has been working out on the fare lawns for more than fifty years We've had people on the island every single day since April Third Ikin. Sixty eight which is crazy. And it's just hard to believe that this fat much data scientific data going all the way back to the sixties. It is pretty incredible. There are not very many Continuous long term data sets especially for seabird monitoring throughout the world and the have one in an area special is a fair launch is in an incredible opportunity. And if you know this pizza I've been trying to get to the farallones like twenty two. It's a big deal super foggy today at does it. I don't know hopefully the Fogle if you've been out here a long time once you once you bet I think most times the fog lists sometimes mid to late morning But we have a lot of very very few days out of the airlines. The combination of the cold ocean water and warmer temperatures on the mainland tends to lead to fog out at the highlands. And you could have days when you get out there to the islands can't even see it until he could get on land. I mean yeah we like now maybe half a mile and I'd just just saw and it's pretty mad. I mean it's magical. They just kind of jot. How of the Pacific do you remember? First time seeing the farallones I do. I was going out. This was in the spring of two thousand. I was going out as a volunteer research. Assistant and We were on a long slow boat ride on a very rough day and We started sailing at about midnight. We got to the island about seven. Am and shortly. After the Sun was rising I started to see the islands poking up over the horizon and it was just an incredibly magical site by still remember a Dan. I still have the image in my head. Yeah it's it does feel like the mist of Avalon where the knights of King Arthur would like see. The Misr is and it kind of reminds me of some magical place. How the hell do we get from this big bill up on the cliffs above us it? It looks like a treacherous. I mean what? What's the procedure? It is rather complicated So the islands themselves are very rocky. There's no safe place to land a boat Island just kind of jumped right out of the ocean as you were saying so what we do. Is we have a crane. That's on the east side of the island and we use that to lower small landing craft into the ocean and that will drive out our boat and then from there it will shuttle the people and gear back and forth between the island and the the vote. That's burning us out here. The boat look Mike Below as like his has made out of metal. I've never seen like such a small wise. The vote metal Yeah Orlando Craft is what's called a safe vote and it's a solid aluminum hull with the flotation of styrofoams flotation secured. Around the outside of it. So it's a very sturdy boat and you can imagine when you're lifting it up out of the water with your in it or people in it And and you're moving it back and forth in his rough environment. You want very sturdy boat. So we're we're very happy to have it for them but then it looks like we have to be light. Lifted like fifty feet in the air. Which I've I've presumed that we're going to be in the boat. When that happens. It looks terrifying. Oh It's definitely unique and You know if you're afraid of heights it could be terrifying but now you tell me I I will assure you. It's all very safe You know we've been doing it this way for a very long time going into a little cove. You're going to hook the vote onto this crane and then you're gonNA lifted about thirty feet up in the air and swinging it over landing so it is a very unique and interesting way to use a boat.

There are one thousand one hundred active bakers in that group and more joining all the time from countries as far away as Israel Colombia Thailand Malaysia in South Africa. The way it works is like this every other day. Goldstein challenges them to bake something new share photos and advice the stream which has had more than forty eight thousand posts. So far is full of everything from bagels to puff pastry to yesterday. Stunner a cake decorated to look just like a puppy. Complete with tongue hanging out but with a number of bakers on the rise so to speak so too is the turmoil within companies that supply flour yeast and other necessities. Surely you've noticed the sorry state of the baking of your local grocery store. Well if you shop first thing in the morning you might have a prayer of buying flour and yeast but then again maybe not those empty shelves translate to furious activity at the headquarters of one of the country's most well-known flowers suppliers King Arthur flower in tiny Norwich Vermont. "Real dudes cer- BETTA VIR. He was one of the earliest Nights to appear in Arthurian legends and one of his right hand dudes He has appeared in other writings Historical writings that have nothing to do with your theory and legend exactly and he was known as a Bedwar bedridden aunt Member of the Royal House. Offend you Which rose to power in Wales in the sixth century and then ser que was also possibly a real dude. Yeah both of them. Appear in of Wealth Collection of warrior poems called the Mavin. No Jin mackinaw John. Take your pick. Yeah I'm not Welsh. You're not Welsh so either one. We crapper not pronouncing things right but this this stuff. Oh yeah he's got like thirteen letters. Vowels like what do you do with that and I mean I'm looking at the alphabet that I recognize my brain just put it together agreed and finally Arthur himself. My vote is on a compilation of real people. Like I said earlier some folks say he might have been a Roman leader named Lucius are Torius Kostas or maybe a Roman name a really Ambrosius see. I saw that. Really some bushiest was his uncle was really third pendragon brother and author and Raliess head to seize power to start to restore Their lineage and Arthur followed after that. Okay see I guess it depends on who you're reading you know. Yeah some folks say he was a British historian named Allan Wins. Wilson says he was a Welsh King Arthritis in the seventh century. I think everyone wants to claim piece of it. I think that's what's going on here. You know I think there's no he was this Welsh king or no. He was his Roman King when I think he might have been all of them. Well the idea that he was sent by the pope to basically restore order or take the British isles back from the Saxons definitely is linked credence by the idea that he kind of comes out of nowhere and pulls the sword from the stone is like I'm arrived. I'm the king of kings now. So the idea that he came from somewhere else. I mean that that would suggest that he could have possibly been some Roman commander and there were Roman commanders who did come to Britain and fight the sex and successfully was named Arthur. One was named arteries. Well there you have it And then some people say that Arthur wasn't a name but a title arth and Which in Latin means bear? And if that's the case could just be like you know could be. Anybody could be short for Arthur could be bear. So why does this story persist because it's Got Romance? It's got chivalry Scott. All the classic elements of drama in literature and fiction. So there you have it plus Monty. Python's take on. It doesn't hurt in perpetuating everything. What kind of a man can summon fire without flint or tinder man? You know that movie inside now tension. I watched it a lot at one point in my life. I think that's my favorite part of the movie the None shall pass when they have to pass the the guy that spits tells them about the rabbit. I remember the nuncio. Pather don't remember the spinning. Yeah when when he when he's talking he's got a list young Oliver anything else. I got nothing else. All right. Thank you for that then In memory of your Father Howard. I think he would like to show too. It's pretty cool. I'm sorry he's not around here. It no but I mean we're carrying on his legacy exactly so I guess we need to do a show on the eighteen forty five over the state of Wyoming. Never Not Wyoming. "Bobby bones host the bobby bones show and. I'm pretty much always sleepy because I wake up at three o'clock in the morning a couple of hours later. I get all my friends together. We try to find as much good in the world if he possibly can and we look through the news of the day that you'll care about also your favorite country. Artists always stopping by to hang out and share their lives and music to wake up with a bunch of my friends on ninety eight point seven. W M Z Q in Washington. Dc. Or wherever the row takes you on the iheartradio APP. Hey now we're back. So that's the that's the basic legend just basically condensed thousands of pages of different books in thousands not thousands hundreds of years of folklore into a few minutes. But you get the gist of it. Sure you know the story. And if this if this ignited your fancy and you're like I want to know more man you've got eight. You could dedicate the rest of your life to researching and reading Arthurian. Legend somehow is. There's tons of it and and it's all like we said It's a literary tradition but it's rooted in an oral tradition among the celts. The Pagan Celts But this literary tradition itself is really really old that they I mention of Arthur is From I think the fifth century right the fifth century Welsh Poem Sixth Century Welsh Poem. But when you're off by one hundred years back then yet Especially with the man who may or may not have existed yet true but Arthur POPs up in one line in this Walsh. Paul poem called the go doted Godolphin. Good Odin Yeah. It's a great word and this poem. Eulogize is the Welsh warriors. Maybe Britain's oldest poem Yep because the celts would have started to become christianized around this time yeah hence things would have started to have been written down so this poem would have popped up really right around that cusp between the end of purely Celtic culture because the British isles were the last stronghold of the celts which swept all the way to Asia like they covered Europe parts of North Africa. The cats were everywhere but it was the The British isles. That were the last hold outs until about like the fifth. Sixth Seventh Eighth Centuries When they became Christianized right. So they're Christianized at this point. Yeah by the time. This poem came out the very fact that there's a written poem. Yeah shows you that the the the writings that made their way in this area in the Celtics are all just tell stories looking. They're ones and tell stories. Still not writing stuff down there like you have you. Are you familiar with mistletoe? To do you know about knocking on. Wood? Could you utilizing your information So some other references in literature the Historian Ritonavir History of Britain. Eighty eight hundred in the analysis. Cambria the Annals of Wales a few hundred years after that they were there are basically history books. The main history books of Britain and Wales right and but they themselves were compilations of of other books in. Can't be like factually verified. Yeah but nevertheless they were used. Arthur was mentioned in both The Arthur we know and love today. You can trace back to Geoffrey of MONMOUTH. And he was a priest he wrote hysteria. Reagan Britanny the history British kings and the eleven hundreds but he based his stuff on the historian Raton them but it just became really popular right so like he kind of base it on the other thing some people even say plagiarized but it became so popular he was kind of a golden right and I think also he I mean most histories are based on previous history. Sure so that's that in and of itself isn't a bad thing but yeah I. I don't know what this articles implying. That like. He was that he stole work or he fabricated it. Well he was accused of fabricating. Some of it so so well either way. He gave the world the Arthurian legend. That's right like Arthur existed before this like as we've seen but he was the one that said like this. There's a great story here and I'm going to bulk this up. Yeah and so. He started neighbor places. Yeah he started contemporaries ing things like he he. He took this legend and put it into a context that the people who lived in his time would understand and be fascinated by yeah and he introduced Christianity for the first time to the story The French got a hold of it. And then they're all about a good romance novel so they sort of introduced. The love elements are not introduced but emphasized the love elements a little bit more about fifty years after. Geoffrey of Monmouth made his history. Chretien detroi- came up with some stories that added that romantic part and a lot. Like the I think the grail stuff too. Oh Yeah Yeah. He was the one who who came up with the romance between Lancelot and Gwen. Aveer and the grail of search for the grail which wasn't a part of the story up until the twelfth century and most of this stuff had been like history books and poems. Starting with the vulgarity cycle or prose Lancelot is when he started getting these great stories and Christianity is woven in even more And this is between twelve ten and twelve thirty right just to give you an idea of where we are and they don't know if these stories were like maybe part of a popular literary trend at the time right where a bunch of people writing. Chivalry was a big thing to write about right. Yeah or if it was one author writing a series of stuff and they were not. They're not attributed to any single author but they're they're collected together as a body of work the vogue a cycle. Yeah and those ones focused a little more on like Lancelot in this chivalrous knights and all that we have in the grail to Yeah with Galahad Yeah. They said that Joseph of Arimathea. Who was in the Bible? He was the one who gave Jesus his tomb after Jesus was crucified and brought back and he said I didn't say that. But they they said. Joseph of Arimathea brought the grail to Britain but then Galahad Tarantula illegitimate son was said in the gate cycle that he discovered the grail because he was pure of course yes until he went to the castle anthrax. Remember that scene and the pure and chase goes to the castle and they're solving watch. There's all the ladies that are tempting him Michael Palin just like wide great moving and then the big one that most of our modern stories are based on is Thomas. Malary's Limb Morte d'arthur the death of Arthur. And I read this in college. Oh Yeah Oh yeah and it was tough. It was sort of like a a bit of a modernized mid- middle English. Yeah it wasn't quite chaucer. Was that tough but it was still a tough read and I remember thinking at the time can I just watch gallery and turns out good because that was that movie was specifically based on the death of Arthur right. Yeah and so as you're you're kind of seeing each each new century each new authors adding their own thing to yeah. He didn't actually write. It should say that he compiled the stories together. Okay surely he cleaned him up and well. Yeah but he didn't he didn't create a new work is known as it's known as a compilation. Well HE DID. Add some new stories about some other nights. Third Gareth in Sir Tristan and he he. He also kind of took the the focus off of the Celtic Pagan mythology in really focused it onto the Christian mythology and and at this point the the idea that this whole thing is based on Celtic ideals in myths is loss largely to history. Yeah I mean at the very least. It doesn't become nearly as a parent was the one that ended the lady in the lake. Oh those vol gates cycle. Yeah yes because I would think that would be ancient Celtic mythology but that wasn't added until the thirteenth century. Yeah The lady in the lake and the idea of more driven is Arthur Sun. Sister you think this to be real old. Yeah no no no. It was part of the preoccupation of the weirdoes in the thirteenth century. Well I think Mallory did add the after Gwen aveer. Land slaughter busted. They go their separate ways to become a nun and a monk. Oh Yeah respectively right. So after Mallory you have Alfred Lord Tennyson. Who wrote the idols of the King? Yeah that creepy looking dude and create poet them a yeah scary looking and I love his name too yeah And then t h white wrote the once and future king and that was the basis of the sword in the stomach. Yeah Yeah we'll Disney action. That was a good movie if I remember correctly. And what's good? Merlin was kind of like a cookie. I mean he's weird right in that story in the sword in the stone. I don't remember that one. That much was that the animated okay. Yeah where he's like a young King Arthur pulls the sword from the stone. And I don't see I must have seen it but I was all about. The jungle book came out about the time. I know but I was so obsessed animators and everything. Yeah you're like I can't pay attention to this all right all right so we we should talk a little bit about the real ties to real history whether these people were really these places real. Let's get to that after this message rate..
SXSW Will Go On Despite Coronavirus Concerns
"Welcome to the frame. I'm John Horn every year. A few hundred thousand people gathered in Austin Texas for south by southwest. It's an international festival of music film and Technology but with the threat of the corona virus at hand. Some people are saying that bringing massive crowds into one place could be a very bad idea. Facebook twitter Amazon and a few other tech and media companies. Already have dropped out of the festival which starts on March thirteenth. South by southwest organizers. Say they're nevertheless moving ahead. Dan Sullivan is a writer for Texas monthly and he joins us from Austin Dan. Welcome to the show for having me so before we get into the impact of the corona virus. Let's talk a little bit about just. How big south by South West is in terms of its physical presence in Austin? How much are people's lives affected when the festival comes to town? Well it's huge. It takes over a giant chunk of the city several miles especially the downtown area but also beyond that it does have a huge impact. Let's talk about some health. Concerns from people who live in Austin and online petition calling for a total cancellation of south by southwest. West has more than forty thousand signatures. I've been to south by southwest. It's been a number of years but like any popular gathering. There are a lot of people in a lot of lines it can be getting into a movie can be getting into a club getting into a restaurant. You are very much cheek to jowl with a lot of your fellow festival guests and I guess that's something that a lot of people might be concerned about. It's not just that you're inside venue with a lot of people. But they're massive crowds basically wherever you go on all the streets and a lot of public spaces. Yeah that is a very real part of the concern is that it's just going to put a lot of people in close quarters. The festival did talk today about potentially encouraging people to be further physically apart from each other whether that means capping the capacity at venues or starting a standing in line protocol. I don't know specifically but it's something that seemed to be aware of the head of twitter. Jack Dorsey was scheduled to speak but he's since cancelled. Because of the company's concerns about the corona virus in fact twitter said in a statement that it was cancelling all quote non critical business travel and events unquote. Who else has bowed out so far. We've seen twitter facebook Amazon Amazon Entertainment Amazon studios when out today. Tick Tock went out today. A measurable which usually has a pretty sizeable south by South West presence. Cancel yesterday. There's probably more to. We're talking with Texas monthly writer. Dan Solomon about south by southwest and concerns over the corona virus. I WanNa talk a little bit about the economic impact of south by southwest. Obviously there are a lot of hotels and restaurants that benefit but it seems from your own reporting. There are a lot of smaller businesses. That really rely on south by Southwest Festival didn't happen they'd be in a big amount of trouble. Yeah that's absolutely true. One thing that it's kind of hard to break apart is south by southwest rise with the rise of Austin Austin city of that is rapidly growing population and that growth has coincided with the rise of south by southwest. And so you've seen a lot of people and a lot of businesses that factor south by South West heavily into their business models. So you've got caterers. Who opened up operations because they knew that every march they could pay a third of their monthly bills. Off of one week I talked to all sorts of people who have jobs that you wouldn't think of as a south by southwest thing carpenters and pedicab drivers and people who rent Porta potties. And all of those people really do count on South by southwest as a huge part of their annual income. I think it's also important to note that south by southwest can be an important launching point for musical acts and for movies right now. I think there's about one hundred world premiere films including new movies from Judd Appetito. There's a documentary. About the Beastie Boys New King Arthur movie with Patel. I'm wondering in terms of its impact in the conversation about art and artists. How important would you say south by southwest has become? It's huge. I mean especially. The film festival has been growing every year and people like John. Appetite Tau like if he can't premier his movie at South by southwest any other film festival in the world would be happy to have him but there are a lot of people who get a benefit from small filmmakers independent filmmakers short filmmakers who get a benefit from premiering their phone at the same festival judd appetite out of festival with the prestige of south by southwest. And that would be. It'd be really difficult for people who are counting on that premiere to make connections to launch their careers to lose it as far as musicians. Go The festival itself doesn't pay very well but there are all of these events. Historically that happened around the festival often paid for by companies like Amazon and facebook and twitter. Who Get pretty good paychecks? And you'll see bands who wrote their entire tours around going south by South West so they can play. Fourteen shows in Austin that week including official showcase and without that economy happening it really does have a huge disruptive effect on a lot of Art Creativity. That's at the core of the festival the organizers of MIB TV which was set for later this month in France just cancelled that annual television convention. I'm wondering if you have any idea of what the organizers of south by southwest are trying to wrestle with now what is the balance they're trying to strike? I mean. I think that they do have a real concern. Certainly the city of Austin has a real concern if it makes more sense to have everything under the control of south by southwest which can at least institute hand washing protocols and recommended safe distances and have some authority over the people who who come to town for the festival versus just having sort of a chaos festival because all of those bands who booked their tors to Austin. Most of them are hand to Mouth. Starts Musicians. Who CAN'T AFFORD TO CANCEL? Literally they already took time off of work. They're going to be coming anyway. You know people who aren't traveling on badges people who are just coming to south by South West to have a good time a lot of them are still gonna come so I think that a big part of the concern right now is. Is it more useful for south by South West to continue to have control over what happens in Austin or is it more useful to just say everybody stay home? This isn't a safe place to be. And I think that they're legitimately struggling with that. And I'm sure there are also struggling with some very real financial considerations it will be hard to me bound from cancelling something that they've worked on all year. I think that there's a real resistance to that. Just because this is all they do south by southwest project of another organization. They put on this festival for ten days in March and having to cancel it just days before it's supposed to begin. It's supposed to start a week from Friday. I think that's something that they're just resistant to do. Because they've been working on it for a year then Solomon is a writer for Texas monthly. He joined us from Austin Dan. Thanks so much for coming on the

Pinterest sets IPO price range at $15-$17
"Is next in line for the anticipated IPO's. We don't have a date yet. They filed their S one a couple of weeks ago. Now, they've come out with their price range and they've set the range at fifteen to seventeen dollars a share on the face of it that seems reasonable super-conservative which. So let's talk about that. Because it's conservative to the point where the last time we saw numbers regarding what is Pinterest worth on the private markets. If they hit this range, they're going to be valued in the public markets at around, you know, up to nine billion dollars for the company that's lower than what we saw in the most recent valuation on the private market. It's a little bit lower than I believe is actually eleven billion and that this would value at the last round was at twelve billion. So you don't usually see companies coming out and telling their last round of investors who you're gonna take a little bit of a haircut here. This is not great. And honestly, it seems odd to me because this is a really great company. I had not thought a lot about Pinterest. I I am not you're not the target person for Pinterest. It's it's two thirds female, but eight and ten mothers in the US are on Pinterest. But they don't have a lot of debt. The only thing you could argue about Pinterest is they've been so. Conservative with spending capital that that does constrain the massive growth, but their advertising numbers have gone up sixty percent in the past year. And really like even just in the last quarter. They added forty one million monthly active users from a base of two fifty two to ninety one. That's stunning. Do you think on any level what we saw play out with the lift IPO factored into how Pinterest set their price range? I think when you're a company that's very careful with cash perception matters. So are they gonna cost themselves a little bit of money by pricing low? They are. But they also will put it out there at a place where they're more likely to get that I wave of stories about the IPO being a mild success. Instead of what you're having with lift when you would think lift went to. Instead of lift being down. You know, whatever it is ten percent. Couple of dollars in real world the stories on it. Make it feel like it's been a disastrous IPO and Uber should just not IPO. Well, when you think about as you said, how conservative Pinterest has been managing their money. Maybe this price range makes more sense. Particularly if the attitude they're taking is look, we know what our numbers are. We know what our strengths are. By the way, we know what our growth has been. And we see the projections in the digital advertising market. And look, they're not Gogel. They're not Facebook. And they're not Amazon as we talked recently on motley fool money about Amazon building up their digital ad business. But Pinterest has their niche. They're doing it. Well, and if they look at that growing digital ad market and say to themselves, we don't need to get the biggest lie supply. We just need to get our slice of the pie. They're going to. Fine and the ad market. As you said, it's growing, so they have a strategy to get more advertisers. They're under indexed on small businesses. And that's an area where Facebook does really well, so they can sort of organically take the audience they already have they actually have to be most protective of their community. They have a niche it's closer to linked in than it is to Facebook. So when you look and say, they're speaking women, they're speaking to people they have to make sure that their advertising doesn't overwhelm their content because it's great if you're on Pinterest, and you search for a recipe, and you get the recipe, you don't care if it's from your next door neighbor, or for someone who has a vested interest in selling you a particular brand of flour as long as it's a good recipe. So it's really about protecting the content experience, and they have a sort of unassailable audience. Facebook can't easily take this Twitter Amazon as long as they put the customer first, which we've seen is something Facebook did not do and. Right. And when we're let's be clear when we're talking about fl. Lower. There's only one choice king. Arthur that's just an I couldn't have named brand of flour. If we talked for an hour. Oh, yeah. No. It's it's just king. Arthur. In terms of is this something that you look at. And you think I wanna get in if not the opening day as close to the opening day or something that you say, I don't care how excited I am. By the story. I'm waiting three months to see how they do. So I hadn't given a lot of thought to Pinterest as a company before you brought up talking about on the show, and I'm actually super impressed. Like normally, I agree. I are about hype they're much more about you know, what happens to a stock. The day after earnings are reported and someone reads the first line of the earnings report in the stock goes down ten percent. But I look at the fundamentals of this company, and I can't disagree in. When you read the risk section, which you've read those they're always preposterous. It's like what if all of our executives are eaten by bears the internet could go away like, but the actual risks to their business are fairly minimal. And when you're this conservative
