"Sneed her. Yeah. From Ukraine. From Ukraine, a former junior Wimbledon champion. Anna fun time, David. Oh yeah, I mean, to watch her is to struggle to believe your eyes. The shots she's hitting. My card was marked by a tip off we received that her service motion involved her feet not leaving the ground. And sure enough, when I watched the footage, that's exactly what happened, but really the thing that occurred to me was that she has the most extraordinary forehand, which looks like she's swinging a sort of lasso and then it's all floppy and then she'll hit the ball with the ball contact is without any top spin whatsoever. It's just flat as a pancake and it flies through the air and you're thinking, she can not control that. It's impossible. And yet she controlled enough of them to beat the man out. Makes Medvedev's forehand look quite normal. Yeah. Yeah, and I don't know, I was saying to Kathryn. I tend to like players with really clean, nice technique, you know, I mentioned Serena's, it's just I just love it. But I also like players with really funky, weird technique. Who's still make it work? Yeah, and sneaker fits into that category. And her backhand is great though. I mean, the forehand is a weird thing, but she makes it work. The backhand is really good. David even said it could be from the list. Exactly. Thank you for hand. Dreamy backhand. Yeah, and she was brilliant. She was driving Halep mad, you know, hitting the ball to a really good length, coming up with angles as well. And then this incredibly emotional moment at the end when she did win. She sort of put her fingers over her Ukraine ribbon on her chest to make a heart and her dad was in the stands and just he had his hands on his head throughout the entire interview. It was her first ever tour level win I think first match against the top ten player and yeah, you know, the U.S. open is a big deal but the invasion of your country is just clearly on her mind all the time. Of course it is and in her heart all the time and that just outpouring of emotion at the end I just found it extremely touching and affecting actually had to move desk in the media room because at the crucial moment all the computer screens froze in our portion of the media room so I ran into the other room and had to find an empty desk. I went to the one which was for a Serbian journalist I was thinking possible that he's not here and turned out to be a good call because it was empty. So that was my following of this match, but yeah, it was incredible and for Halep. I mean, we have seen her lose her first match on the Lewis Armstrong stadium before to connect in 2018. We know she doesn't like New York really. But she did come in in really good form and I think that has to be there has to be a disappointing loss for her as well. She looks stressed from very early on in that match. Yeah, her eyes were wild. And look, I think she wasn't enjoying those weather conditions. And I can understand why. For all the reasons we've talked about, but she looked hot and bothered, harassed and as if she was just trying desperately to hold it together because she was she knew that if she could just dig in her normal foundation of her game would probably win against most players and of course there were those huge peaks and troughs in the game of her opponent and then included a very lopsided second set in how it's favor, but it just you don't necessarily win major titles like that. She won her major titles by hitting out when she was under pressure when she was under the gun against some Sloan Steve and she went for it when she played Serena Williams. She absolutely knocked her off the court. It was extraordinary. And here she was playing an inspired opponent with an unorthodox game. And she didn't quite have enough, but it's a big disappointment I reckon for her. I mean, we did say when she won in Toronto that she kind of won it in spite of herself. Because of herself because of her fighting qualities and the way she dug deep, but she wasn't always playing that well and it never felt secure and I didn't think she'd go out in the first round here, but I suppose in that context, it's maybe not that surprising that she was vulnerable. Yeah. So lots of people going out and we mentioned Daria kasatkina is one a little bit earlier as well Matt and she went out to Harriet dart and that is really the best result of Harriet dart, British players, career. And she was brilliant. I mean, that was a really long first set, wasn't it, that was about 11.9 in the tie break. But again, Casa kina, that's a disappointment on paper. I mean, was she? She was sick on the court. All right, okay, then she was. I think it was the conditions. She'd obviously paid a lot of tennis last week as well. Maybe that wasn't the best decision. You know, I really saw kazakhi going deep here given that she has won two titles, but maybe she didn't need that, we just before she was playing on Saturday and playing again Monday in the U.S. open, different country. Okay, it's not that far, but still, I suppose maybe she was a bit freaked by losing back to back matches after she won in San Jose. She took some losses to andreescu and nismo, but they were really tough draws. Just felt like Casa kina was set up to do really well at this year's U.S. open and we've seen her do well in the slam already this year Roland Garros. It's not like it's a slam thing. Yeah, that was probably the most, in a way, maybe the most surprising one for me today. Maybe Fritz as well. But yeah, I really didn't see that coming from Cass Aquino and I think a combination of dark plane really well, classic kina not playing well and the conditions just all caught up with her because I thought after that first set that she lost, that she was going to do that thing that she did in San Jose with. Do you remember she kept losing the first set and then turning the match around and taking charge? I thought that was going to happen again, but it just didn't. Not predictions are in ruins folks. Complete ruins. I want to change a bit of a life, huh? Okay, Catherine, I think it's better for you. Yeah, I have just given myself an ice cream headache from the McDonald's milkshake. Okay. Is that good or bad? It's not great. It's definitely bad. Okay.

"Has come anywhere close to having 60 votes. So I think this is likely to all be litigated out, dealt with in the various states around the country through the democratic process. And with that, there's deep concern about the future of contraception and same sex relationships earlier today on Bloomberg, Tara Lee grove, a vision and ethics foundation says there could be many far reaching consequences. "When she auditioned to join the cast of Saturday Night Live, she got hired, but as a writer, not a performer. So you were surprised that instead of a performer, they asked you to be a writer. You hadn't seen yourself as a writer, you'd only written for yourself. So that was a big transition. You did a few of the black jeopardy. Sketches. So I thought we'd play an excerpt of one of them. And this is one of the most famous black jeopardy sketches. It's the one with Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa. His role from Black Panther as the leader of the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda. So can you set up for any of our listeners who don't watch Saturday Night Live? Can you set up what black jeopardy is? Oh, black jeopardy is a form of jeopardy where the questions are centered around black culture and basically only people invited to the cookout would know the answers. And there's often a white person on the panel. There's just black people and one white person who's kind of clueless about all the questions of black culture. But in this case, it's chatted with Boseman as T'Challa, the leader of the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda from Black Panther. And so let's hear the very beginning of the sketch. And kina Thompson plays the host. Also in the sketch is Leslie Jones and Chris redd. Let's take a look at that categories. All right, we got grown ass. Oh hell no. Vietnamese. Girl, bye. I ain't got it. And as always, black people. All right, so these.

"It was just working very well for her and although I think Georgie, she did have a little fight back in that second set where she was hitting winners, she was hitting a few double handed backhands down the line, which looking great for the audiences and watching on TV. But she just wasn't able to kind of keep that up through the whole match, and Casa kina able to come through. Yeah, and only ten fourths, sorry, only ten unforced errors from Kazakh in those two sets. I mean, if you look at the set score lines for her, you know, her four rounds here. She hasn't dropped more than three games in a set. She's been blitzing her opponents. But yes, she hasn't had to play anyone that highly ranked. I mean, she's had what Shelby Rogers Contreras gamers sram cover and Georgie, but I think it's really impressive for anyone to kind of come through so comfortably. So she goes in against coup d'etat who came through against Madison keys, I think kazaki they've only played once before I think kazaki won that one. Could a better vote to be fair? She's into her first grandson called final. I was quite surprised when this went to a third set. I was convinced Madison keys was going to come through, given her experience, she's been obviously to a final of a Grand Slam. She's made all the quarters of a slam. I was just sort of thinking. That's important as well. Yeah, surely keys is going to do this, but yeah, it was not to be, could you imagine a really surprised me. So coming back from that first set would she lost 6 one to then come through 6 three 6 one in the last two sets. Really impressive. You know, she's been there or there abouts. She actually made my collector setosa prediction come true by beating her. Nobody's a retired, but yeah, I guess she's taking this experience on, and she's into new territory. Yeah, and I feel like could a metaverse arguably a better match up for caci keener because I think with Madison keys, she does, she does blow hot and cold, I think, through matches. I think that's the one big frustration with her. Is that kind of consistency? And I think that's what makes it so annoying being watching her on a tennis court when she can put a superb set of tennis together like that first set against cuda, really, you know, breadstick to 6 one and you think she's on her way to another quarterfinal at Grand Slam, but cue the really did kind of turn the tide there and it was a good momentum shift for her. I did think keys was going to wrestle it back as well in that third set but it was great I think for cuda message just kind of to carry it through and as I said, I think for Casa keena, I feel like that is a better matchup because I do think Madison keys has bigger weapons and on her day they could blast someone off the court like a like a Cassini or someone else. But I do think cassi keener and coup de are quite evenly balanced in terms of their arsenal and I still would say arguably both of them don't necessarily have that big weapon that they can draw upon for points. And I think that is going to be a match that potentially comes down to who keeps their unforced errors down the most, but I certainly see that as a match of like a game of chess Kim, like they're going to be moving each other across the court, putting balls in awkward spaces, using tight angles, using different spins, could be quite a tactical battle, I think. Yeah, I think it's going to be quite intriguing. They're both, they're both Russian, obviously, they're both they're both the same age. So it's kind of the same generation. And it's who can go to this stage of a Grand Slam first semifinal up for grabs. I can see it. Yeah, being a three set of being quite tight. It's also a matter of nerves who's going to deal with the nerves and the mental side of the game. And Katherine has been here before. And you would think she was the more experienced. But at the same time, could a metaverse, I think this was her first fourth round a Grand Slam as well. So she obviously was able to kind of handle those nerves, maybe not necessarily initially, but certainly grew into the match. There is no doubt that she's going to want to start a lot better than she did against Madison keys. Because I think you know, I think we've cast a keynote. You sort of see her on a tennis court. You know what you're going to get there. And I think she's not going to, she's not going to give up many errors too easily. So I think it's going to be quite a tight, lots of a lot of extended values there, potentially. Could go either way. Absolutely. And let's move on to the men's action from today, Joel. We've had a slightly disappointing result for Yannick sinner fans. He's retired. I think due to his knee injury that he's been struggling with, so that was a set all against Andre Rublev sinner actually steamrolled his way through that first set. I thought he was going to be home and dry. But yeah, Rublev was able to clinch his second and then two love down in the third and called it a day. So Andre Rublev lives to fight another day and sinner is out and hopefully he'll be getting that knee sorted soon. So he doesn't shackle the rest of his season. But earlier in the day, we had a whole guru, I guess what many people are calling it a shock win over stephanos sits a pass in four sets. He won 7 5 three 6 6 three 6 four. This is his first ever main draw in Paris, which I didn't realize I just assumed he had maybe played it last year. And I think that's even the more impressive, you know, he's making the quarterfinals on his debut. He's now along with Carlos alcaraz who will get on to later..

"I thought Dominic team looked all right. In his first match, back since injury, given how much time he's been off court, he's got Benjamin bonzi in the first round and then could potentially face semi quarters, so yeah, I'm sort of curious to see how he gets on as well. And yeah, in Munich, yeah, I think Casper Ruud, I quite like Casper Ruud. It might be looking at this as an opportunity for him to win his first tour title this season. Dan Evans is there. I mean, Dan Evans had a not great start to clay season's got Maxine Crecy in the first round. So yeah, I'm sort of thinking rude, yeah, rude baby in Munich and yeah, I think maybe David David for kina, I think he'll just ride that energy that momentum from Monte Carlo and see where it takes him potentially to another title. Yeah, for sure. I think he's the one I'm intrigued by the most from Estoril and I mean, as for me, you know, yeah, see what Dan Evans can get up there. He's there. Is he still going? Is he still is there in a wall around? He's got Daniel out myer in the first round. And I see there's another German wild card. See, well, they're obviously giving their wild cards to a cause. "Red Dead online. Yeah, I don't know what it was, I was thinking, WD, WD. Best debut Indy goes to kina? Well, there's a lot of there was a lot of good interest here. The artful escape forgotten city kina sable and valheim that's the list denominated. You know, I think whatever will probably win that just because sable has so many glitches still, sable is still stuttering. It never fixed it. And I think with that mysterious city, everybody, I know who's played that has thought it was phenomenal. Like it could, I think that one could win. Could win. My two favorite Indies from the year are genesis noir, which was basically a game of the field like it was made for me. And lacuna, which is probably like one of the best written games I've played in a long time. Nice. All right, folks, what is your nomination? Let's do RPG. What your RPG game of the year folks, we're just gonna say ten months in 11 months in, sorry, we're gonna pretend December doesn't exist, even though it fucking does. What is your right now? What is your game? What is your RPG game of the year, chat? And what is ours? It ain't fucking cyberpunk. And if you write cyberpunk, I'm just kicking you out of chat. I won't. Tales of arise. That was a tales of horizons pretty sweet, man. I would actually have been able to play a lot of RPGs this year. So I think it probably would be pathfinder. I find it better to find the for sure. Yeah, pathfinder for sure. I love tales of Verizon and it worked better than pathfinder. And it didn't have an 8 fucking hour. It's not a high bar. And pathfinder was like, here's an 8 hour battle. Welcome and you're just like, what? But I find a voice for sure, very buggy. I had multiple moments where I thought that I had a game ending back, but from a pure enjoyment level, there is no competition. We're not saying new fed off. We're saying you're stuck with it regardless, which again, you stuck with it and beat it, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So RPG, I think pathfinder and but Johnny, did you do pathfinder? Only for a couple hours. Yeah, that one was the one that didn't yeah. You didn't stick with it. And the same with disco elysium, right? Well, no disco I did more. I did a solid 15 hours. I mean, you didn't like it. Is what I'm saying? No, no, I didn't like it the way you guys did. Yeah. Monster hunter rise, which I didn't get a chance to play Scarlett nexus was fun. I can definitely see people thinking in fact, if we're saying only RPGs launching this year..

"So i see part getting sprinkled in a lot more As do we go on to try to alleviate some some of that work that gecas accrued over the years is better right. Now than zeke. Better as the wrong term would use. I think politics is more explosive. Just due to the less wear and tear and the less blocking he's been asked to do compared to sneak in his career a better running back but pollard. Looks way more explosive. I like what you said about ezekiel elliott having pollard. Problem do the cowboys. Having zeke elliott. Problem like they just signed him to a six year. Ninety million dollar deal That was before the mccaffrey. Signing made him the highest paid running back at the time you think if they can go back in time they would redo that decision absolutely. I also wouldn't be surprised if they're able to somehow get out of that contract because it looks like the salary cap is a is a myth at this point and my takeaway per week to is that. If mike williams can stay healthy this dude you're going to be a top fifteen wide receiver this season Through two weeks years. Twenty two targets fifteen catches one hundred and seventy three yards two touchdowns i just in herbert's had some pretty bad luck in the end zone is left a couple times on the field so this offense has room to grow yet. I i think kina now and mike williams ecuador they're all gonna be studs for paying a mike williamson's big surprise overall. Yeah i like that. I've been really surprised by mike williams. It was nice to get nine targets after getting a goose. Second week one. But i think this whole offense is going to jail really well together awesome my third takeaway is that you need to go by. Kyle pitch a if you haven't done so already if you are hurting tight end whatsoever cowpats. Season is about to begin This week three. I think it starts to face the giants. They're a bottom five defense and fantasy points a lot of the tight end position so far in twenty twenty one. The second on the season. Second second on the team in yards targets catches Touchdowns under the because they only two passing touchdowns so far pencils and have one. But the falcons are also on pays for six hundred eighty s attempts this season and pit so far has a seventeen point. Five target percentage so by kyle pets. If you can which you won't be able to. Yeah i mean. We know that people invested early kyle. Pitch is two weeks enough of a sample size for people to hit the panic button. Do you think you gotta know your league. There's going to be people that are like about box score. And they say oh you know he's got you know four catches sixty yards that kind of stuff. They're not going to be overly excited. If you can give them an an upgraded different position. They might bite it on it just because pits hasn't had that outbreak out game yet question for your jacob..

They see this as a rip off. They don't see they can't justify the price so the price as a salesperson. You cannot handle and you have no control over. The price is fixed and it stays pretty constant but what you as a salesperson has control over is building the value as long as you can build a value even a little bit past the price you will make a sale so think of it this way you probably refer company right now where the price of your offering is either mid level or one of the highest prices and the reason why i say the so confident confidently is because your company wouldn't need a sales person that they were offering a product or service at the lowest price in the marketplace. They need you. It's your job because you need to build value. You basically need to justify and explain why your product or service is at a higher price than the incumbent. A premium price needs a premium sales story. So your job is to deliver that premium sales story in order to justify a higher price. So your job is to build the value to exceed the price and there are so many different things that builds value a lot of people. Think it speech dumping it's going through capabilities and it's going through all the different you know pros and cons of your service or product and that's how you build value. There's a lot more to building value bill value. The words that you use the words you use can either break the value or build the value so looking at the way you speak. Is there a word here and there that you can change out that would enhance or bill value for example. I'll just give you you know if you if you point at something as oh. This is the white option. Can you change that that color to the pearl or a word that exudes luxury. You know the way you do your proposals the way you staple your proposals or do you put him in an beautiful portfolio your powerplants or your decks are they just put together with bullet points or they nicely branded even your brand which i know you don't have much control over but the brand can signify value. Also how you show up..

"I would add a you know. Dennis smith has just not been able to stay healthy and get a chance. I think if you're a team that has a good medical staff that can just hopefully like fix him physically than maybe the that would be a thought. I'm not talking about for any kind of a significant contract for him. One more sterling which meant the mavericks third draft. I for john you do you guys think that that i mean i guess i have. This notion perhaps sane in my mind that frank ntilikina can be a marcus smart as player if you get him in a with a system that can just teach him how to shoot a reasonably. Well he has that. Kind of marcus. Smart s a skill set but it might just a base there I think he's not as strong. And as as tough as marcus. Smart like he's not gonna be able to guard threes and fours and switch the way that smart. And it's also honestly as a much better offensive player and finisher and even shooter you would say And then noah kina At the same point in his career and better dribbler better passer. So i i could see him as a defensive specialist at the guy we always compared to in the draft was george hill but he hasn't really proved to be that level. Sure but i think he can be that level defender so That's there's a thought there. I think but i. He just has to get better as a shooter. He hasn't really been scoring all in the olympics. I don't think either in and if you're a team that feels like you can develop a little bit. Maybe but it's tough to develop him when he's just so bad offensively that you can't play very much right now called. Thanks guys. I appreciate it. Thanks for the question jerry. Let's move on to a chester chester. You're on the air jesse there. Yeah let's go okay. Sorry about So i think the thing about this rosen. "Secret sauce to what makes next-gen special from a user experience gameplay perspective so while this is unfortunate i honestly i. I'm just going to be patient and just waited out and deal with the bullshit. We have to deal with right now because hopefully in the next year or two. We won't have to have a ps four fivers game to do all that stuff and these things will be cheaper and there will be more options to be able to only download parts of games and you know kind of like make better choices to come up with better solutions for these problems. That are real problems that we that are just out there. And especially as more and more people get their hands on places and fives and series xs over time. I do think that they're gonna have to come up with more solutions because more people are going to be complaining but right. let's see. I got a just a comment here. Hopefully the games good when it comes out. Hopefully they actually are doing what they say when terms of prioritizing like the teams health and their workload and all that because like we also what we know that delays can help with crunch. We also know that it's not an automatic. Oh wow they're really looking out for you know their employees like again not to say that they're not but i feel like at this point. A neutral announcement. "kina" Discussed on Daily Sales Tips

"You're listening to the daily sales tips podcast. And i'm your host scott and grub. Today's tip comes from kina feldstein. Kina has recruited and trained over fourteen hundred sales reps and her career across various industries. Her teams were top five in the country out of hundreds. She was number one. In productivity per rep in the nation generated millions in revenue and presidents club every year. She now oversees a team of sales empowerment managers for house of revenue who executes sales strategies and build sales infrastructure for all their clients here. She is semi tip. That i have for. You is being off of self and on purpose. Let's talk about the opposite before. I dive into what it looks like to be off self on purpose. What does it look like feel like to be on itself off of purpose. And when you're on yourself and your off of your purpose off of your objective. This is where that commission breath can be smelled among all of the prospects in the universe. 'cause we're on our self worth thinking about. Am i saying it right. I need to sail. I have to close this. My boss is gonna kill me. If i don't close this deal and all we're thinking about ourselves and we're not putting ourselves in our prospects shoes to emphasize to handle objection and to best work with our prospects in any concerns. They may have. So i'm a big proponent on internalising memorizing all scripts and objections and any type of you know collateral that your your team gives you because when you internalize them memorize then you have the freedom to personalise a lotta sales. Teams and sales people are like well. It's not like how i speak. I don't really talk like that and you probably don't but once you internalize and memorize it word for word then you can personalize it so then it becomes more of your own. You want to internalize the program so that way you can be focused on getting off of yourself a sales call and being more on purpose because if you're the opposite where you're on self off purpose you're going to be constantly thinking about. Am i saying this right. And it's all about if you're doing it the right way versus how you're delivering it when you can be you know off of yourself on your purpose then you can focus on how you're saying and how you're delivering so when you think about being off self and on purpose this is how i envision it you walk into a prospect of meeting and you see your prospects and there. I just like to look at them as a cartoon character with a bunch of bubbles over their head and all these bubbles are possible fears objections and concerns. When truly off of yourself and your on purpose you can actually see. This is your superpower. You can see all of the concerns questions fears that your prospect has and it's almost it's almost a magic trick you walk in and if you're truly off of self and your on purpose and you're in flow you'll watch their arm starts. The meeting armed may be crossed. Because they're unsure about you or they're picking lint off. They're closing because they're just not really that sure about buying and then if you're popping every fear bubble you'll watch their arms uncrossed so you wanna be able to quiet. Every fear handle every objection and handle every concern. 'cause what's the best house the best way to handle an objection before it happened. You're going to close before the close if you're office self in your on purpose if you're no longer thinking about whether you're saying things right if you're following the script if you need to close this deal how your boss is gonna feel whatever wants thinking about you and your truly off of yourself and on your purpose you can emphasize you can put yourself in your prospects shoes. You can almost feel the movement of the room before it happens. You can read the minds of your prospects and see the concerns and objections before they even realize they have them..

What Are the Pros and Cons of Carb Cycling?

"You to really think about your diet is that you want to be metabolic flexible. What does that mean well. In the sugar impact died. I talk about being a sugar burner versus a fat burner. You don't wanna be a sugar burner the you know. You're sugar burners you lose weight. You don't lose your waist that's making you worse. Not better by the way you don't want that and if you can't go more than two to three hours without getting that term that they made that henry term so you've never ever just forgotten eat in fact that's the sign that you're a fat burner is you can easily go hours without eating you actually. Sometimes we'll go. god. I eat lunch. That's one in you lose weight off your waist until obviously you don't want to be the sugar burn in fact which you really wanna be is Is able to burn sugar. Able to burn fat and able to burn tones meal the cycle back and forth so that depending on where you are in your cycle. If you're a cycling female for what you're doing with your exercise you can bring the carbohydrates up or you can move into more of a cheetah genyk low carb diet and your body can easily shift back and forth. So i want us to really rethink this and that we want to cross train our diet now. This is important because like where kina genyk die to near mint. Fasting can be therapeutic. And especially when you look at like More extended fasting can be therapeutic for anti-aging for stimulating stem cells for immune health forgetting blood sugar balance. If you do it longer term same with too much keita. Do kito longer term specially for women in some women. This could create some stress responses and can actually start to mess up your periods It can start to mess up your dreams and your cortisol. So that's what you wanna think of. And that's why. I really like the idea of your diet because if you think about it like that's what we would naturally do. If this was a thousand years ago we would have had more fruit during the summer. Not really in the winter so we would have eaten more of that gained some weight by the way the days would have been longer. We would've been staying up later. We would have been more insulin resistant. We would have stored more fat so that during the winter when we didn't have access to that and we're eating more things like ham akin and fats and going into kit. Hoses we can use that stored body fat for fuel so we naturally are supposed to cycle. Were supposed to be able to miss meals and not have it be a total crisis

Wet Notes - 4-9-21

"This is wet notes here scuba shock radio for april ninth two thousand and twenty one first up today. I'd like to give you an update on new netflix. Documentary see spiracy. You might recall that. I introduced you to this film in a previous segment of wet notes. Well it did premiere on netflix's advertised. And i had a chance to watch. She spiracy a couple of weeks ago. The film is eighty nine minutes long and it can be captivating and controversial. Like i said this is certainly raising a great deal controversy especially as it relates to sustainable seafood and fishing. There's a couple of organizations that they called out into spiracy earth island institute and the marine stewardship council actually marine stewardship council issued a response on their website within days of the premier and every day. I see something more coming out related to the controversy. But i encourage you to watch the film and then decide for yourself about what it is saying like. I said lots of controversy. That's spiracy on net flicks now. Here's something that. I found really interesting. I came across an article that talked about how scientists are using thin wales to map out what lies beneath the sea floor. Now according to to seismologists vaclav kina from the czech academy in prague and john nab elec of oregon state university in corvallis oregon the song of the fin. Whales are loud enough to penetrate the earth's crust and revealed deep structures. I guess they have a network of fifty four bottomed size meter seismometers that the tech sound waves traveling through the ground and they picked up the of whales as they were passing by. Now they have a one hundred and eighty nine decibels song and that song can last from two and a half to five hours as they did more analysis they were able to map the underlying rock structures. According to these guys this is just as effective as those air cannons that are polluting the ocean with all that noise how practical this is yet to be seen. But you've gotta admit it is interesting. Now here's an update on the lectured aluminum tanks situation. You might recall back at the end of february. I told you about luxembourg Decision to exit the aluminum tank business and that they were looking to sell their plants in the us and the uk more. Here's some good news. Metal impact out of elk grove village in illinois is acquiring the graham north carolina luxembourg cylinder plant metal impact is no stranger to scuba tank business. They've been around since nineteen fifty nine and in two thousand fourteen. They purchase worthington. Aluminum cylinders has been providing aluminum scuba tanks to excess scuba and see pearls for a number of years. We've got quite a few from excess scuba over the past couple of years and so we're pretty familiar with metal impacts. This is some good news for the. Us aluminum Scuba tank supply chain. There's absolutely no doubt that. The pandemic has had a dramatic impact on the scuba industry. But i guess it's not all bad news if you happen to be in the right place and it seems that hawaii is those right places especially for new diver certifications. There's a recent article in scuba diving magazine. Titled more hawaiians getting certified than before the pandemic turns out that even though the travel has been restricted to and from the islands more locals are turning to scuba aloha scuba on awad who had reported a one hundred and twenty percent increase in new diver certifications. In two thousand and twenty. They went from twenty seven in two thousand and nineteen to eighty three in two thousand and twenty spurred by whole families going for they're open water certification with some great diving. It certainly makes sense to mask up and dive in our aloha state. Last week i was trying to see if the ocean based climate solutions act of two thousand and twenty was being introduced in this session of congress. Well no update on that yet but i did come across something very interesting. There is a house select committee on the climate crisis now. This committee was created during the one hundred sixteenth congress. That was the last one so it hasn't been around long. But they did produce a climate action plan of two thousand twenty. And that's called the congressional action plan for a clean energy economy and a healthy resilient and just america committee is chaired by representative. Kathy castor from florida and the ranking chair is representative garrett graves from louisiana now. I watched their organizing meeting from march nineteenth. Let's say there's just a little bit of difference on the ideas of how to approach In the approaches in making the us carbon zero by two thousand fifty but as representative castor stated. It's time to turn recommendations into policy. Now i'll be tracking our actions and keep you updated here and finally you might recall. Last year the uss bonham rashard an eight hundred forty four foot long and fibia assault ship burned out of control for five days. Now that was in san diego california. But now senator. Marco rubio from florida is proposing that the ship be used to create an artificial reef down in florida little bit of background. The navy did some cost analysis On what it would take to restore the ship to operational status an estimated that that would be somewhere between two point. Five and three point five billion dollars but the cost to decommission and scrap the bonham rashard would be about thirty million dollars. Senator rubio didn't provide any details on where the ship might be sunk and be become an artificial reef but he did say that it could be done for less than thirty million dollars to scrap the ship. This word Happened it would be. We'll keep an eye on it and see where it goes. Fingers crossed that will have another artificial reef down in florida. Something that big to dive on. Well that's it for this installment of wet notes for april ninth. Two thousand and twenty

Welcome to the show. Thank you very much is our honor. So did you grow up playing music together. We are all surrounded by hawaiian culture wind music or we were even brought into the world. You consider ios bound to happy oil inevitable for us to either become hula dancers so to say now musicians and how were you around music before you were even brought into the world. Our grandmother and our mother were are the are practitioners are grandparents is wealth. They've been in the lion. Culture and hawaiian seen four before we even brought into this world. And what about you edward. What are your first or earliest memories of music. So yeah before we were bored of. My mother was a hula student for my to my grandmother for her hull flooding hula. Holly and my grandfather. He was actually a line coach specialists at also called who the hawaiian priest and he used to do. Many things he also. I guess what you could call if you were poorly Activists are so. He did many things for the hawaiian community. And so yeah. We definitely grew up around the hawaiian music and where it stems from the culture in our family being very active before we were and did the two of you play music together when you were little. Yes we actually laid with the help. All our grandfather. Charles coody saw as soon as we were able to take a gorilla being around blind culture and my grandmother have hula. Were will class or group. We would always go off on stage at like we were performing with them and end gregory. You're one half of the band nova and your other two bandmates. They're also brothers. And you're all from maui. So did you. Did you grow up knowing each other and seen each other the first occurrence or where we first met each other was passing. My grandfather at his funeral and their family came over to our art grandfather's house and we met them there. We didn't know much of all we knew. Disorder played music. They doubt salon suffolk dot but that was our first meet up them and most crazy to find out when we made three or so years ago was a their mom had done to love with alongside with my mom under i went to to are my grandmother docking day before we were even board. That almost feels like a very serendipitous family connection. How did you find that out our mother. She collected thoughts when she found out that we were deciding to make this battle or or join become about and so she gave us the history of how their families actually closer than we thought it was really meant to be for us to cross paths and form this type of bond with two sets of brothers in our make the group not bite ya and we always talk about how it was kind of almost destined to be back in the day before we have a board. And it's crazy how we can say. We were given that gift to be able to sing an all the whole year speaking hawaiian language to. That's pretty amazing. So you're both in your twenties and and so are other bandmates. You're all in your twenties but your latest album is inspired by hawaiian music from the nineteen sixties. How did you get interested in playing this kind of music. Being surrounded by point culture add aligned language. We kind of have some old souls to us. What we we all up to another idol or i would say a mentor in hawaii uncle. Samuel colonia cole. And he was asked to be part of the paradise serenaders and that was the whole reason why we did this project. A quick little travel back to the beginning of started was approached by a guy named zachary love. He is from all. He's an awesome musician. He approached with this idea to begin this project because of saab is going through dementia and we wanted to capture their style of music theirselves before it was too late. And so we're we're fortunate. We're blessed enough to learn from him before he forgot and we wanted to take their style. Also make it our own but also not let that stuff die

"These southeast asian nation of the philippines has being pummeled by the third major storm in three weeks adding to the pain and suffering thousands of families typhoon vanco locally known as ulysses made landfall on wednesday night and although it's much weaker than super typhoon goni. It bought catastrophic flooding across the capital manila sprawling densely populated city. Un uses video spoke to the un migration agencies. Kristen dedi chief of mission of iowan philippines who just driven to marikina central manila began by describing the scene just hours. After the latest storm's arrival parts of manila. That are twenty meters you. The water rose to twenty one. Point five meters so really significant. I'm actually standing on the river. Bed near marikina where the floodwaters absolutely raging l. And car are being taken away. And what things did. The storm hit manila. So the rain started yesterday evening. about six o'clock in the evening it started raining quite hard and then Definitely i was awoken in two wins howling at. You know it wasn't supposed to be as it certainly wasn't the strength of typhoon rolly last week but the damage in manila is much much more severe than it was last week so i was awakened at about midnight. One o'clock in the morning took a winds howling. Rains pounding poured throughout the night so at about three thirty in the morning they raised They have a signal system here in the philippines and they raise the signal for an area called fateh kina to level three and they were doing evacuations throughout the night so yeah quite quite intense so as things stand a lot of the population was already impacted by goni and were in evacuation centers. But how has the situation changed with this new star yet. While it's absolutely astro faded. The scituate ation so the for the new storm made landfall rowley or ideas. It's known go. Knee and international did not severely affect manila but it affected the provinces of alibi and cut to anise and camera. D'or sewer And those areas were again hit extremely hard with with ulysses just coming through so it's absolutely exacerbated. The situation you had people that were evacuated. Three and three weeks is the third type. Third major tie phone In three weeks. So it's exacerbated the situation for sure now this recent one which came through last night that had the additional impact on manila and manila was not as impacted from the first two typhoons Last week and the week before. But it's been hit hard with the with this one absolutely hit hard with a lot of flooding. People are still being evacuated enough rescue boats pulling in more rescue boats to bring people loud. Government is just doing an amazing job of the red cross of additional rescues. They've really. I mean right now you could see. They're bringing a lot more rescue boats for the people in terms of any initial estimates any any indications of damage or displacement especially in manila. It's not clear yet in the middle. It's not clear i'm not. I'm not sure what the numbers are at this point. I mean it's a very it's a moving situation But it has to be in the tens of thousands in terms of damage. it's massive. But i'm not sure. I mean it's too early to calculate exactly and i'm not. I'm not aware of any fatalities at this point. I have been on news today to see what the if there have been reported casualties. I haven't seen any but The damage from the flood waters is going to be is going to be massive definitely. I mean they're having flooding levels higher than joy under a hit in two thousand nine which really devastated parts of parts of manila. Absolutely government in a stretch the quite quite skill. that's. Cincinnati stripped earthquakes from the year then from co bid and now now. Three typhoon lebron It's just up. The we feel very bad for them outside manila. How's the situation in luzon and the areas that the typhoon went through. Yeah quite quite strong. There was a lot of flooding. This typhoon brought much more flooding than the whereas typhoon rolly lot of in damage but this typhoon. People's how are they coping. One one storm iphone and another over the last few weeks detrimental evacuated three times in three weeks. They lost their homes completely I mean they're tastes. Now t percent of what you know in some of these areas where they've been evacuated multiple times The definitely suffering Kidger also particularly stressed. I mean filipinos are the most resilient people in the world. But i don't know how much more i can take to be on his.

"The Fujifilm X100V Hands On"

"The Fujifilm x one hundred V pay. Psc Compact camera has been steadily evolving. Since I first saw at photo Kina in two thousand ten immediately after release it developed a dedicated following but there were many including myself who remained on the sidelines monitoring its evolution through five generations. Today's camera the one hundred. V is the result of ten years of development. And it's the lead topic in today's TVs photography podcast. I hope you enjoy the show. There are so many ways for me to talk about of this camera and I've really been thinking about okay. How do I approach it on? Today's show I've been working with it for a number of weeks now and I have a lot to say and probably a lot more than I can say in. Just one show a similar situation that I had with the EM one mark. Three right. But I had to pick an angle so the angle that I have decided to choose are what are the factors that have moved me from the sidelines of watching. This camera evolved since I was first introduced to it at photokina. Two thousand ten and and got to talk. Fuji Film about it. Let's move me from just watching it to actually wanting it in my possession right so I'm going to talk about some new features. Some improved features or features that have been around but now combined with the new stuff makes this a compelling camera to have already so that is going to be the angle of today's show. Now I'm also going to cover a few Complaints I have about the camera or things that I would like to be improved or added on in future additions and we know that Fuji Film. Really likes this project. We know this because of the way they have lovingly moved it from generation to generation carefully choosing the improvements that they make with each iteration. So we know that the V. is not the end of the line for this camera by any imagination. But I do think it is a camera now for many of us to at least consider for well what type of photography first of all travel great travel camera street. Photography would be the second area creative photography and I definitely think that this is one of the more creative cameras that I have shot with and recent history and then family photography a camera to have around for your family events your family life all that kind of stuff and because now thanks to its Bluetooth. Four point two. It really does. Interact very seamlessly with your smartphone. I'm using an iphone ten in my case and is beautiful. Talk more about that As I get in to the features themselves so here we are. We're talking about the X ONE HUNDRED V. That was just announced a while back and we'll start shipping. I think in about a week or so. I think it's going to be you know hitting the shelves as they say here very very thin all right. So let's see if this camera is more interesting to you if you don't already have one or if you're really excited about upgrading if you do have one okay. Let's dig into all of that. The first thing I have to start with of course is the hybrid viewfinder. Because there's really unlike anything else that I've shot with. And what does that mean? Well it means you get the best of both worlds. You've probably heard me talk about in other shows how I still like to shoot with. Dss Lars because I really like a good optical viewfinder. There's nothing like just looking through glass. Really Nice glass at the world. The X one hundred V as does previous versions of this camera gives you both and you have a little lever on the front of the camera and so you can look through the optical viewfinder which isn't just any optical viewfinder has he's really nice magical overlays that show you frame lines Show you aperture and shutter speed you know show you all sorts of information and you get the optical viewfinder experience you move the lever and then you get an electronic viewfinder now one of the upgrades. Us happened with the V. I'm just going to call it the V. Now most of the time is that now. We have a three point. Six nine million Dot Ole L. E. D. electronic viewfinder versus the two point. Three six dot million that we had in the previous ones so they've really upped their game. Now they have a refresh rate of for this electronic viewfinder of one hundred frames per second already. So you get both of these things and for people like me. Who like both? This is a real treat not having to choose okay today. I'm going to grab this camera with the optical viewfinder today. I'm going to grab this camera with electronic viewfinder. I get to have both and over the time that I've been shooting with this camera. I have used both and what I like to do. Generally speaking is I start out with the optical viewfinder just you know for framing and composing all that it's it's really so nice and then I'll switch to the electronic viewfinder Before I make my final exposure if I have time to do this and just sort of check exposure compensation color in that kind of stuff. I love having both in just one of the features of this camera that has always impressed me in has gotten even better with the V. The second thing. Oh my gosh they finally did a tilting touchscreen so right now we have a three inch one point six two million dot LCD touchscreen. That is the up and down kind. Okay so you know is really nice of for flipping upwards so that you can put the camera down to your feet or at a very low angle and look right into the viewfinder but it also tells the other way so that you can hold it over your head and shoot that way and still see the electronic viewfinder in what a lovely viewfinder it is by the way that one point six two million dots. It creates a gorgeous picture. It's a very easy to compose on it when you do want to compose out so you have not only the hybrid viewfinder that we were just talking about but you can also compose on the viewfinder itself and that's where the tilting. Lcd just comes in very handy innocent touchscreen to boot so that is a major upgrade. That is something that I know. I have been waiting for through all the ITERATIONS and when I'm out in the world which is what this cameras designed for. I need that. Lcd to tilt. They've added it. They've redesigned the twenty three millimeter. F to land as now you see a little series two. That's engraved on the edge of it and this is kind of important thing. They had not a redesigned. The lands drain all the previous iterations. It's always been a very good lands in in Fuji. Makes fantastic. Lenses has always been a very good land although it's been a little Soft on the coroner's wide open I think if you had a beef with it that would be at. This land is really terrific. As eight elements in six groups in the revised design includes two spherical elements and it really does improve the sharpness and clarity especially when shooting wide open. Which let's face it. A lot of us are shooting wide open whenever we can get away with it right additionally they added a super EBC coding to suppress Lens Flare and ghosting for greater control and Color Fidelity and the color is absolutely great with this camera. So it's a sharp lens it performs well throughout the whole range from close to infinity now and a really nice thing about it. Is that all of the current accessories from the previous models for the lands. You know the the filter adaptor ring the Lens Hood. You know all that kind of stuff. Oh Oh the the the converters to right. You have a wide angle converter. Telly convert they all work on the new lands so I really appreciate them doing that. This next one. I have not seen a whole lot a written about it but boy when you're using it At least for me. It's a big deal and they updated the Bluetooth Version of four point two now and it has real time. The camera has realtime. Gps tagging that actually works actually works so this is something that I've been teased with on other cameras. Ended has worked. Kinda spotty to say the best and what I really have wanted is a camera that when I turn on the Bluetooth and I have the settings set up the way that I want which is for it to communicate with my iphone. That's constantly monitoring where I am For better for worse right but as monitoring where I am. I want that information to go on the pictures that I'm taking with the camera and what I've had before is that sometimes it worked. Sometimes it didn't or took a long time to come on or all these sort of things.

Explainer 148: Can Emmanuel Macron reason with the yellow-vest protesters?

"Any analysis of the yellow vests phenomenon or of official responses to it does need to adjust for the France factor. In most countries, logged scale public protests is d- lost resort of frustrated citizens in France. It's pretty much the first response the grievances which historically have been expressed elsewhere with peevish letters to newspaper editors have traditionally been expressed in France by hurling sections of footpath, the John, Don. Attempts to replicate the yellow vests phenomenon. Elsewhere have been notably less dramatic in the UK, it has amounted to a few dozen middle aged men who can't understand why they're not allowed to see their kids blocking traffic and yelling about the forums. But even by Francis standards. The yellow vests have been a big deal. The movement began mobilizing last November taking its name and its uniform from the high visibility jackets, which all French motorists must carry the vests have been staging vast protests, many of them violent and various other direct actions, including incapacitating by one estimate. Sixty percent of Francis. Speed cameras in keeping with the traditions of French protests. The yellow vests are kina and clear on what they don't want. Then what they do originally inspired by objections to diesel taxes. They Anga has expanded into a broad nonspecific rage with the modern world in general comparisons have been made with the storied revolts of Maine nineteen sixty eight which at one point briefly looked like they might have forced the full and flight of president Charles de goal Francis. President president Emmanuel Macron. Has correctly identified that the yellow vests may pose an existential threat to his decreasingly popular presidency. So beginning this week with an almost audible sigh of I've got to get back in touch with the rebel Macron intends to spend from now until March touring France talking to actual people. This is not the first concession Macron has made to the vests. He has previously announced some tax cuts and floated the idea of immigration quotas. But it is the most dramatic concession and the one likely to be most closely monitored by other European leaders beleaguered by angry mobs. Under Macron's grand new outreach program. Any citizen of France may apply to organize and chair debate policy proposals. Which emerged from them will be scrutinized by officials and considered by the government Macron introduced the scheme with a two thousand three hundred and thirty word open letter to the people it is much as Macron depicts himself a model of inclusive. Reasonableness we wanted to green on everything he wrote, but that's normal. That's democracy. But at least we'll show that we are a people who are not afraid to speak to exchange views and debate. And perhaps we'll discover that we might even agree despite all different persuasions more often than we think Macron's idea is also as he put it to transform anger into solutions. It is difficult to imagine a more desirable advance in political alchemy or unfortunately, a less likely one the idea that angry populists might be converted into constructive. Participants in the. Democratic discourse. If only someone would listen to them relies on the belief that the yellow vests or Brexit twos.
