Let's put them in the show. Let him play. let them get out there ultimately. Yeah they may not be ready. Oh they're not on the forty man roster we don't wanna start their big league time. I understand that from the business side of things from the fan side of things. I absolutely aid it. But ultimately i get it but get some of these kids here let them play and if even they're not the kids from that trade let the aaa guys come up. See who the kids are in front of them and if they can play if not get him out get those kids that aaa so. Let's see ultimately who's going to be around for next

"kimbrel" Discussed on WGN Radio
"A little bit of the sound of Chicago to get you going on this Thursday. We like to call it Friday Eve to make you feel better. August 20 on its 10 minutes after seven o'clock, Let's see we have AH, cups Oxiris Thiss weekend Only Jordan. It's At Wrigley. Not that it matters. Yes, not that any of us are going So Friday, Ah and Saturday night, and it's still weird to have all those Friday night and Saturday night games and then Sunday afternoon game. I think the headline today though, is Craig Kimbrel actually save the game. And what did I read? First time since, like August of 2019? Yeah. I mean, if it feels like it was, ah, decade ago, Obviously, the season started disastrously for Kimbrel. And when he was going to come into the game, you know is interesting yesterday because in that second game David Ross, the new manager of the Cubs, decided to go with Jeremy Jeffress in the big moment in the eighth inning when they needed to get some big outs. They put Kimbrel and against the bottom of the lineup, so sort of Ah, Easier way to get him in for save, But I have to say you look good. I mean, he struck out three yesterday, and he looked like the Craig Kimbrel that the Cubs thought they were paying for. Yeah, But Ross still isn't saying he's our man. He's our closed. Yeah. I mean, listen, if I take a few more good outings after yesterday's three strikeout performance after that, his E R A is now 11.12. Yeah, it's still not looking like a great deal, but I don't know. Maybe it'll work out. This was funny. The The Cardinals. Apparently, we're told to stop sitting in the stands. Several players had spread out in the box seats near the end ex circle Monday night and at least according to Dexter Fowler. And I'll be called the cards in order than Tio not do that, and I was reading Paul Solder the trip. It was funny because, Paul said it reminded me of the many times. Andy free and ushers shoot us from the Golden boxes and old Comiskey Park. But as long as they're spread out, you know why that is nobody around them. I won. I think they should do that, frankly and two If there's any team that should be spreading out right now, it's the ST Louis Cardinals with everything that's going on with them. So that's for sure. We'll talk more about this Thom Brennaman story that everybody's buzzing about here. Time came back from a commercial during the TV broadcast of the Cincinnati Reds game last night, and the microphone was on before Tom thought it would be on And he said something He shouldn't have said It was a a gay slur, and people are reacting to this. And most of the reaction has been along the lines of this email we got after we were talking about a little while ago. Hi, Bob. I'm sorry. It's unacceptable these days to use such words. No apology will let me immediately forgive anyone who says such things as a gay Jewish man. I am highly offended. What if he used a slur that included someone from your background? Let's go away for a while and think about what he did, says Berry and looking at the e mails and texts. Mostly along these lines. If you're just waking up to this, Tom said, you say here I gotta know did what he did was he mentioned A capital of the world, a gay capital of the world, he said, But he didn't use the word gay used. Ah, slur instead. And then he immediately Or pretty quickly anyway, was called and apologized. We played his apology here in sincerity will do it again in a little while and I thought the apology was sincere. And and I agree that you can't say those things and you gotta do some sensitivity training or something for a while and ah, and learn a lesson. And you know that sports world Khun B can still be home a phobic, although we've come a long way, and that's the point that those terms and the one time used the slur. You know we're way beyond that now, and you can't be saying that. And so I hope that Tom learns a lesson. I hope he sees the light and I hope he doesn't lose his job. He's suspended for a week. Right, Jordan. I It's a week. That's when the Reds just said that he was suspended. So you know, we'll see what the official Ah time frame on that suspension is I feel like the whole thing. Obviously, what he said was terrible. I thought his judgment beyond what he said was also terrible. The idea that a guy who's been on the air as long as he's been on the error would say something as stupid as that. Near a microphone is also just terrible judgment and I, frankly a bad mistake that you can make and the and the apology to me was Partially bungled. I think you know, he called a homerun made apology, which was unnecessary was on television. He looked Obviously flustered but started talking about his own career and didn't know whether His employers of the Reds or Fox would have him back on the headsets like this is not the time for you to be saying that Well, he was he was still in shock. I mean, how long between what he said four innings, So four innings later, was the apology. Yeah, so it's not like he had a day to think about it and talk to people about this and then write an apology. I thought he spoke from the heart. And maybe this is colored because I know Tom a little bit from his time in Chicago here, but, um, I I know we differ on On the apology. And I agree with you that you don't stop the apology to call a home run. Just like Well, I'm really sorry. There's a drive by cost Janos Tito, like, what are you doing, man? But you could tell that you could tell how he felt, I think And I didn't. First I thought it was just a radio game. And then when I learned it was a TV game, I thought it was even more bizarre that he he stopped his apology to announce a homerun that you could see. And then Ah, this morning when I saw the video, I saw the way he looked giving that apology. I mean, maybe it's maybe again. It's because I'm a broadcaster. I felt for him. You know, he's certainly He certainly was. No, It certainly was a terrible things to say. It's terrible that it's in his psyche. That word. No doubt he's gotta learn from this, but I just hate to see anybody lose a job. Over something like this. Yeah. I mean, listen at those thoughts that you just expressed all went through my head watching this unfold last night and obviously in the social media age. You know, there was this groundswell of anger that was building during this game as he continued to call the game after the comment was made public on Twitter and other social media. So I don't know how much he knew in terms of what was happening as this was going on, so I, there is a part of me as a broadcaster that thanks, Listen, people say Stupid things. They make mistakes. I get all that. But the idea that that word was in his head the idea that he would still use it in 2020 the idea that he would use it near a microphone when he's been broadcasting for four decades, his father's been broadcasting for what six and like. These are people that are like their DNA is broadcasting, so no doubt it is her. It's terrific. It's all along. It's a terrible mistake. Yeah. And judging by the emails and texts, more people are agreeing with your slant on this than mine. Will will go over more of those comments little later this morning and play the whole apology again. Four units entirety because most of the newscasts around town just give me a few seconds of it, Phil, We'll play the whole thing again. And then you could tell us what you think. But it is what everybody's buzzing about this morning, 7 19 and let's get you caught up on a few things here, like the weather forecast. We're heading for nineties this weekend, aren't we? Yeah, maybe close to 90 for Saturday and Sunday with the temperatures and humidity.
Cubs extend their winning streak to 4 behind Alec Mills' 7 innings of 3-hit ball in a 2-0 victory over the Royals
"Baseball games last night. Cubs rolling along behind Alec Mills cheese Guy's been fabulous, gave up two runs to Nick Castano's In Cincinnati, and that was it seven shutout yesterday. Cubs went to nothing. And I loved again, David Ross. Not being wedded to. He's my closer. I got to give the ball the correct Kimbrough because I don't give it to Craig Kimbrel. What am I saying? David Ross absolutely says that a Joe Madden impression is that what you were doing yesterday, you say wasn't professional. And now that's the voice. I did not say He wasn't professional. Yes, you did. But that's the Joe Maddon voice you're using. Well, who is that? That was just mean. Maybe. Maybe in funny. I I'm just telling you Most managers would have gotten on paying him $68 million. That's my closer. I got to give him a baseball. What do you want me to do? I can only put out there who they give me. You know that voice that you do? It sounds like you're pinching your nose as you do the voice, But you're not. It's quite the skill. Isn't that how he sounds standing? Yeah. How do you do that? You're like, you know, like it Sounds like you're pinching your nose easily. I'm not pinching my nose. All I know is that gave me a 16 million Now they're closer. And I got important man. That's what you want me to do. What I like to do
"kimbrel" Discussed on Baseball Tonight with Buster Olney
"Sarah Langues is a reporter and producer for LB calm and Sarah, a lot of people in baseball. Sure, going to be very curious to see what Craig kimbrel brings the table for the Chicago Cubs during his preparation to get to the big leagues throwing in the minor leagues. His fastball velocity was about ninety five miles per hour. But he's, you know, a lot of times, especially with closers, when they're in environments with is not high adrenaline. You're not necessarily going to see the best fastball. And this is someone who when he's at his best he can throw ninety seven ninety eight miles per hour. So I'm going to be curious about where its velocity is. But I think more importantly, I'm going to be really curious about where he's command is because that's what really scape him down the stretch last year in the postseason for the Red Sox. What do you expect? Yeah. I mean, I think that it's important to temper expectations kind of as you're saying, you know, we saw with, like Chris sale this year, for instance. Right. Obviously is the starter. It's a little different, but he didn't pitch a lot in spring training, which is a sort of similar situation to kimbrel. What can Brill is although. Umbrellas had sort of less practice and maybe keeping up with things and it took him like a monk to get into the groove. And now he's pretty much Chris sale minus maybe yesterday. And I think that it's going to be really interesting to see how that plays out for reliever because we haven't really seen that with someone quite this high powered with these kinds of expectations. I would definitely be a little concerned that his first few outings, may not be exactly what works -pecting, but I think overall this is just going to be a huge steel for the cubs overall. We'll see. All right. Let's play the numbers gave number three. Number three is five so the Orioles allowed five home runs the pilot on Wednesday. It's the tenth time this season that the Orioles have allowed five or more home runs in a game that set the record for the most such games in a season in MLB history. They set that record on June twenty sixth breaking Tiet nine with the twenty sixteen rents again for the entire year. So the oils have allowed a hundred sixty five home runs this season in twenty fifteen which was recently home runs have certainly exploded. But twenty fifteen was very recently there were thirteen major league teams that allowed fewer than one hundred sixty five home runs for the entire year. This is the Orioles one hundred nineteenth season of existence, and they've already allowed the twenty second most home runs in any season of their history. And obviously, there's a lot of years where. Weren't quite as many home runs this year, but they're going to shatter the record and is not a record that you want. Number two, number two is four hundred and fifty two. So that's how many feet friend mill race is first home run yesterday against the Orioles went. It was the Padres eighth four hundred fifty foot home run this season. Which is the most into majors, they had just five four hundred fifty foot home runs all of last year. So last year, the Rockies lead the majors with sixteen four hundred fifty foot home runs, which probably makes sense. With course field and everything. And no other team had more than six four hundred fifty foot home runs this year. We already have two teams with more than six the Padres, and then the Rangers who have seven and three other teams are already at six the Rockies cubs and pirates. So it's interesting, it's really kind of just these extremes like the long home runs or maybe going longer, because the average home run distance this year has been four hundred feet on the news, which is just over three. Ninety seven from last year. But there was four hundred feet was the average home run distance in twenty seventeen. So it's not like we're averaging four hundred twenty feet on every home run. But there have been some very long home runs this year. Number one, number one is a hundred sixty to begin keys have now, gone a hundred sixty two straight games without being shut out a full seasons worth of games..
"kimbrel" Discussed on 90 Miles Podcast
"While we'll maybe or or something like that. I don't know. You know. Oh, no. You know, the cubs are gonna add Will Smith to. Yeah. Why don't you guys just have everybody? I mean. Yeah. That would day what today's bullpen or do you went today's baloney. I'll take hater everytime over kimbrel. I two pounds just ridiculous. I would take him over Hillary isn't all day. No, you wouldn't say would if you switched this, if you switch this in the bruise at signed Kimbrell, and you guys had Josh hater in your bullpen you'd be arguing exactly my course. And that's my argument is correct. Why mine is, of course you would though because I wouldn't choose kimbrel overhand which team they play for kimbro pays for the cubs. So kimbro win. That's it. There's. There's. Gonna agree on. No, I is a fun view. If the cubs had hater and the brewers head kimbrel. I'd be happy. The Bruce had kimbrel, but I don't think I could honestly tell myself that I'd rather. Oh, that is the biggest. Yeah, I call baloney on that one. Well, we might argue boated that way for the sake of the podcast. But I don't think in my hearts or year. Heart-to-heart s-. My heart's. I'd take Imber over hater. But you know below Fulton. Hogwash, heart-to-heart your very data that kimbrel landed on the cubs because I think I think if the brewers are going to get them I think you even might have said this. You hope he didn't you were wishing he wouldn't end up and then I'll central but, but he did. And of all teams on the cubs. So we both said that we did both actually I think you said that. I did. Yeah. Well, it's true. I said, if yeah. Kimbrel isn't gonna land on the cubs. He'd better not land on the brewers or any other team. And then L central and, and luckily, worked out, you congratulations. You've got the fourth best closer in the developed. Let's move on. We're closer in the defense. How that is. Yeah. Hall of fame should be third. Third. All right. You know what I think let's go to predictions. We got some work to do here because I don't even know what. What we got. All right. So episode twenty six you made a prediction, but Jimmy Nelson. Yeah he lost that day. So yeah, you can chalk that up as a as a big l for me that in his first while it was a pretty bold prediction. And then he made it even more more difficult. But yeah. Predicted that Jimmy would it wasn't even client innings. Well he went for innings and gave up four runs or something like that. I don't remember you know, his first start back in almost two full years as six hundred and some days back in the major leagues. It's a success. Just the fact that he made it all the way back. However, he did not get the win. He did not get the necessary number of strikeouts. Or lease keep them under three earned runs. That's an L I now. But it's a win for the brewers. Yeah. Episode twenty two I said about Kris Bryant winning and player of the week this week is over, although he'd have to be a monster every day for the rest of this week, which is. Yeah, that's light. I mean it's not done, but it's not not looking might as well be. You had brewers go nine three the next twelve games. I they are currently seven and four because the last night's loss. So that's, that's no, no there. That's a loss for you. It was a close one if the brewers win tonight. Well, if they split with Houston, and then it just comes down to one of those unforeseeable Miami games. I don't even know how that. Yeah. That was schedule right? Easy scheduled. I don't know what happened there. I honestly don't know rent into a strangely hot Miami, Marlin team. And I. Strangely brewers team. Maybe not that strange. Well, it was right after the hero demotion, but hero, went to made a difference in those kinds of Ganz, the first two were massive. It was, it was very strange anyway. And I think one of those games was the Jimmy Nelson start wasn't. I'm not sure. Yeah. Okay. And yeah, so let's see other than that. I, I still got Anthony Rizzo hit ten home runs or more beginning June fifth. My think he's got. Oh, I had looked. I'm trying to remember now I think he had. Let me see real quick June. So june. He's got one so he just needs. It nine more before the end of the month. So. He's. Pretty good. So we'll see. I mean you know, you go on a run, but you know that was bold. It was bold. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Other than that, you got Jimmy Nelson record two wins by the all-star break. That's still that's still possible cast in here at ten plus home run side, also break probably not. Well, no, actually, I think that one's more likely than the Jimmy Nelson, one. And here's why. Travis Shaw is still improving, but Hase's Aguilar is not sooner or later, they're going to do something, and I suspect that it will be. Soon, I think within the next week, maybe to hero. We'll be up that will give him a couple of weeks, which is, you know, it's possible that he can hit five more in that span of time. He's gone down and played well at AAA again, Jimmy Nelson did not pitch. Well, I think he actually got bumped from his scheduled start. So I'm not one hundred percent. Sure, I got, you know, let me take a look. We'll you kind of talk about what you want your predictions. Yeah. Well, I just wrap up a couple others. We got going, we got cows shore bird nine hundred opium, greater by the star break that he's trending in the right direction. Now he's been looking a little, he's not gonna make it. We'll we'll see. It's not going to get to nine hundred c. Oh. He's certainly still could definitely could move. Stock is absolutely raking and he's only at nine thirty one. You'd he needed a better start if he was gonna hit that nine hundred but anyway. Sorry. Kris Bryant twenty five or more home runs by the all-star break. And he sits at thirteen right now. So he would have to go on quite a run as well. But that was a bold that was a bold one. Yeah. I did double check on Jimmy Nelson. He is scheduled to start here in about three days. So he hasn't been totally bumped out of the rotation. They're going to give them every chance to get worked up to a longer lather. Because what the Burs need right now is pitching. And Jimmy Nelson is a quality pitcher if he's healthy and going. Well, you have to let them play it out. That's another reason that you go back and you look at our Masako granddaughters. Kimbrel talk, the fact that they add Jimmy Nelson coming back eventually made it easier to gamble on the batting instead of having to force something in pitching right anyway. He's still got a chance to win. I thought he had been bumped back. But anyhow, all right. Well, anyway. I I'm ready to make action. I got a little quick back story. I don't know. I might not this might not have come up, but I, I might as well mention it for those who don't know. I actually live. Well actually just north of Los Angeles in the mountains. But I've been in LA for since two thousand eleven or nothern California area at least and. Yeah. So that, you know, let you know, I mean, I grew up in Minnesota dad grew up in Chicago. I got family in Chicago, and so forth. Anyways, yeah, I have a blog post on the ninety miles podcast dot com website talking about how I became a die-hard cubs fan anyways, I usually make it some cubs Dodger's games every year. And the cubs and dodgers play this weekend. They play four game set here in LA, I already set big weekends. Yes. And that's going to be. Yeah. I mean that's some big games against a very, very good team. The dodgers easily the they're the class of the National League. And I don't think there's any shame and saying, no. I mean, hey Ed, you know, I'd rather don't want to say, but you kind of have to say, I don't have I don't have hard feelings against dodgers. It's got, you know, I got a lot of friends here dodgers fans and baseball fans and, and we talk about it. And of course you know they've played the dodgers. Well on the brewers to, you know, post-season postseason dodgers. That's that's something else. Yes, I, I went to I'm not a dodger fan at all. Yeah. I don't have to be nice to my LA friends. So I can say this. I hate the. Let's heated up the whole thing, that's, that's for sure. You know, playing a the same team in the playoffs a lot. And of course, I've gone to some of those games. And, and I gotta say at least the dodgers fans are generally fairly classy, I've gone full blown cubs playoff games, and I've not felt threatened. So that's, that's a plus at least, you know, it's been it's been fun. You know. Yeah. Well, if you put on San Francisco. Another. Another staff, of course. Yeah. I won't wearing brewers gear and Wrigley field is dangerous time. So, yeah, well, I mean, not literally, but, you know, those are more San Francisco and LA have some history there with their face. But anyway. Yeah. Well, so yeah, so cubs dodgers plan. I'm going to be at the Sunday game as it stands right now, whether I go to another one of the games or not, I'm not sure yet, but definitely am I already got take it going Sunday with a group a cubs fan. So that's gonna be awesome. You know, be there Repin the cubs and. Yeah. So anyways, prediction, I'm gonna say, and, and this is both a prediction, but it's also it's more of a desire. And it's also something I think that could could be a huge spark I'm gonna, I'm gonna go ahead and predict the cubs, they're gonna take three of four or better against the dodgers in this four-game series in LA against probably are. Arguably the best team in the National League and. Yeah, is that bold enough for you? I don't know four you made me go aid ODA twelve this is three no nine hundred. Angeles against the dodgers. The cubs. But you give me you give me a hard time because the brewers only one two to three in LA. You gave me crappy out or game series. Another story, though. There's some above four game series that. Oh, no, no, no. You made it all about playing the angels and saying, well, it was a two and four road trip. So. You've already lost to the Rockies. I guess probably a little bummed out about it, you know, kimbrough's not going to be there. So you got bullpen and stuff, you know it's, it's. You know, I think three or four is bold. But what he say? I don't know how to make it more bold. That's what I'm trying to figure out as their away, you can make it more bold than that. I don't know. How can you make it more bold? They win three out of four and well you like run differential. Okay. Okay. So they, let's see here. Three out of four and the run differential for the series needs to be. Well, see indeed, be at least plus three in order to plus two. How about a how about a minimum plus five run differential on their two plus five cumulative over the four-game series? Sure, score five or more runs than the dodgers a whole series and they win three or four. Is that to bolt said too much for you? No..

"Woah to. Welcome to the new best rivalry in baseball. And we're here with another episode ninety miles podcast ninety miles distance from Wrigley field. The Miller park. And yeah, that, that makes it quite a battle. I mean, you know, I could I could, you know, you could throw throw a pile of poo poo, you know that distance and and. I don't know where I'm going on this, but I have no idea where you're going with this either. Yeah, but you know there's a lot of a lot of BS between us. So I suppose there's a lot of pooh-pooh. Yeah. Yeah. Alden, the podcast is that really where we're going. Yeah. Yeah. This is terrible to throwing is beginning already. This is this is serious. I mean, come on, whatever. Oh, it's serious. It's it's, it's seriously. Not our best opening. Well, that's it is what it is. So whatever, but and any case. Better than the brewers. So there's that you know certainly half game difference is. I you know, the standings would say that the brewers are still better than the cubs. Same last year standings did. But, you know, whatever. Yeah. Yeah. It it keeps you can try talking about run differential and say better yard that well great. That doesn't get into the get into the seventh game in the National League championships. Okay. Well, and that, and that's all all you got so but anyway, more than you had last year. Calmer than you are anyway. Yeah. Pretty much. Just call down, Walter. Yeah. You know the I guess being a half game up. I mean, it's, it's nice to give you some hope for a little bit more of the season. But I think think some things are going to shift here, especially when certain closer gets into season form here and joins the cubs, which will be certainly the cubs needed. A lot of help back into the bullpen was absolutely. I'm not gonna far. I'm not gonna deny that. But there's still right in there right up at the top of the central so. Yeah. Well, so what news is the cardinals are away a ways back. That's really the important thing to take away on that. It's only June. There's a lot of baseball left to be played. We're going to talk today about obviously the Craig kimbrel signing, we're going to kind of pit that against what the brewers did this spring kind of debate. What's better, what the best value was, perhaps? We're all. We're going to do a little bit of a head to head kimbrel versus hater type talk, that'll be later on. We've got a tweet of the week, which really emphasizes what we were just talking about how close things are in the central how already fans on Twitter. I mean all season these fans watch each other. That's why such a great rivalry. Yes. Rivalry. But we're gonna get into that get some predictions in. I think we actually have some predictions to wrap up if I'm not mistaken two. We I think he might. Yeah. We do. And I don't think we prepared for it at all. So you guys get to sit with us sift through that. We'll get awesome figure it out. But we always do we always do. Let me get the NFL central breakdown. So we're kind of getting into I kind of liked to call it free agency. Two point. Oh, kaikal and kimbrel coming off the heap. Yes. After wading through the spring long time coming. But, but yeah, I you know I wanna mention before we dive in we do have a giveaway going on where. Where yes, we do though, to ninety miles podcast dot com and subscribe, there's you'll see the midsummer giveaway. Go there sign up on the mailing list. Trust me. It's worth it. You don't have to buy anything is go there. Sign up you'll hear about when we have new episodes, dropping and any other fun stuff and we'll have a drawing while during the actually by the all star game at the end of the night. What is it that night of all star games, July, July tenth, I believe twelve a one central, that's when the closing if you weren't signed up if you weren't a subscriber to the podcast by, then you will not qualify. Yes. There's some awesome prizes were starting out at the thirty thirty five dollar level. You know, talking really nice shirts hats, and it goes all the way up to a very, very high level based on how many subscribers get so tell all your friends. Get your cub fans brewer fans the sign up and don't forget, let's just enjoy the podcast. Let's have some fun. Talk some crab this cubs, smacktalk time. Yes. So the cubs stinks so bad, they gotta go out and blow the entire budget. They claim they didn't have one on one Craig kimbrel. Okay. So it's Theo's league baby. Theo's league. Right. Come on. We've talked about it already. We talked about the fact that and I've admitted as much of that, that was one week area. The cubs was their bullpen yet again. They didn't really have a walk down closer of any kind, you know, in two thousand sixteen when they went out and got Chapman. I mean, that was a huge difference maker, and they needed that. And you know, it's sort of sort of the same thing this year. I think that was key. And to get one of the best of all time arguably while. While potentially, you know, hall of fame trajectory, you know. Okay. That's you can't deny that now I'm not arguing with you. Okay. All right. You bring you bring him in with this mix. You know this is now a couple of things had to happen for this kind of unfold. Now, of course, cubs front office isn't saying that, that it's because. Oh, brisk for sure is not coming back or anything like that. I mean Zober does not come back, that does loosen up almost all of this year's salary for kimbro. So, so I mean that plays a role it did loosen up payroll. But also, they did they did say, you know, sometimes you gotta wait till you get into season and do some further counting. And, and it looked like they, they did have some more money loosen up. So I don't think they're in a position to to get. Him earlier, but things changed. And since he was still there. It's like, well, you have to sure you have to do it. Right. So the, the cubs, basically now have a one hundred twenty one and a half million dollar lockup on their pitching staff. The brewers have about one hundred twenty five point two million for the entire forty man roster. So, yeah, it's nice when you've got the kind of money in the Bank, roll to have borderline dead contracts, your Theo's league. You got the Darvish thing at least Jason Hayward's played fairly well this year. Well, you that the Burs can't afford to make these kinds of mistakes, as my point, I. That's a mistake yet. And hayward. Yes, that probably is a little overpaid. That's deeper deeper new that contract at this point. Although he's been better early this year. He's been not quite as good lately, although you know, it's been thrown some sparks again, I think overall, he's gonna end up with a better offense of your this year. But, but yeah, I mean, helps it helps to have a likeable team in a winning team two thousand sixteen. Yeah. That does that does add to the payroll, unlike, you know, the brewers who you know while like yeah. Whatever the whole point of this segment is for me to argue with you and point out what the Bruce front office did the spring versus signing kimbrel. Yeah. Yeah. What I wanted what I wanted to get at is Craig kimbrel in the next to see this year is gonna make ten million alone. Just for the second half of the season. The next two seasons he's gonna make sixteen mill each year. The birds highest paid pitcher is you'll e Zine and he's. Right around six and a half mil per season. Yeah, but looking no, no, slow let me get to my point here. The brewers looking at things in the spring when this was all going on. There was a time in February where the brewers and crimp kimbrel relieve linked closely together. Now, that's post the yes, Monte GRANDE all signing, but it is still pre GIO kansallis because that happened during the season and it is still before the stock has thing if I'm not mistaken as well. Stock in grand all filled. Two holes on this team that were pretty massive in the lineup last year for the brewers. If you look at twenty eighteen at the catcher position they finished nineteenth in major league baseball and war the currently sitting at eleventh. It's a nice jump. Yeah. Yes. Money grand dollars having a fantastic year. If you look at second base, this was a huge hole. They were eighteenth overall in war wins above replacement is with. That means is a great way to evaluate players gives you some good ideas. They're currently fourth in major league baseball at the second base position. So too big leaps in their life. Lineup. Right. What that did is it opened up and lengthened that lineup big time. No, we've had some huge regression from hazo, saggy Lara on the brewers, and some huge regression from Travis saw outside of that. This team is putting up runs at a very good clip. It is a very deep offense of staff. Now, the one thing that couldn't have been predicted Corey Canabal going down. And that's where brew fans get really upset. Why didn't you go sign kimbrel? Why didn't you do this? Don't you do they brought him who stock us and grand all on one year deals each? That's how this team has to plug holes David Stearns knows what he's doing if you lock in criminal, Craig kimbrel. Sorry at sixteen mil per year for three straight years. That is a huge chunk of your salary. I understand why it looks necessary. Turn on the brewers brooding me. That's making you on what I'm talking about. I understand why they did what they did versus getting kimbrel. Do you want to swallow doll for kimbrel? No. I don't wanna full grand all full season of moose. You're making it sound like it's a waste of money. You know, I mean it's a it's a bigger. It's bigger gamble knows bigger that is hold on a second. The gamble who stock is and granddaughter for one season each to fill some holes, and really put together a deep lineup and that's exactly what they're doing. There's no gamble in it. Because if they fail this season, right train them off or whatever, you know, you don't have them on the boil next year. You know you play poker go bigger go home. I mean you know you just want to play it safe. Yeah. I mean I also play poker win playing it safe. Well, here's the thing you can't win a tournament. If you don't have a bankroll because he can't play. The brewers are bankrolling properly, according to what they need to do is my point. Greg kimbrel would have been an awesome signing would love to see him on the Brian. Well, no, I don't wanna gamble on them for three years. The bruise couldn't afford to tie up three. I don't think so, really, you think you wouldn't gamble on kimbro for three years. Not at sixteen million year..

"Speaking of everything for less, that's sort of the situation, Craig kimbrel in Dallas Keiko who finally signed as free agents after the draft. So as we've seen these, these are really good pitchers. They have really good resumes to put together, and it took forever for them to get signed as we go forward and nobody likes to talk about this, and nobody likes when there's labor issues disrupting the things they want to watch, which is a distraction from the real lives, which is sports how big of a deal will this be in your mind? When the next collective bargain green is discussed between the players and the it's definitely going to be huge because you see now more. So where with free agency guys are signing later, and later and later as you see two guys with the resumes of dollars a Craig kimbrel are signing almost halfway through the season. Right. And coming. Later and later. So it's definitely going to be something that's going to be addressed. I think at the next bargain in what we keep talking about the baseball union being the best union in my sport of football got so criticized at times for the union head for being too friendly with the league now the union had maybe being to butting heads too much. And it's always been a tough relationship. Why has the baseball union, which you were part of for so many years been successful in a lot of things they were trying to do? I think it's been successful because it's it's been the players. It's been what the players have wanted to try to get relate across their ground. I mean obviously you go back to ninety four when baseball before base before ninety four when baseball was considered the most popular sport in America. Then you have the strike and just kind of took baseball off that top tier for top second, but that was the players sticking to their guns. And that's one, one of the things that with this union, it's such a strong union in terms of the players standing up for themselves and getting a getting across whatever it is. They want to get across to the ownership talking to Ryan. How're with us in studio here on goal can window. So now as far as these two players, obviously, we talked about it. Heikal going to Atlanta they're trailing the Phillies right now in that division. And on the other one Craig kimbrel going to the cobs they're tied with Milwaukee, I think in there. So as far as the rest of the season goes, obviously a little bit difference in roles. But do you think this makes one more of a contender them? The other going down the stretch, I think it can potentially help. Both teams obviously you're getting the guy like a Craig Kimball where the cubs are coming in where their bullpen is kind of struggle bit. You know, they got a four one four Yara they got a four to seven yard in the ninth with twelve blown saves so kimbro coming and being a seven-time all-star with a career one nine one ERA is God, it's definitely gonna come in and help bolster. Now, my concern with Kimberley's. You're coming in, in June. So it's a lot different, you know, when you're training, you're working out and doing all that to where you come in, you know, obviously, he's going to go down to minor leagues. Get some innings and get some work, but it's different when you have to face major league hitters same thing without sky..

"What's the bigger concern about Kimbrell is it the rust from not pitching, all these months? Or is it the way he closed the season probably a little bit of both done going into the post season last year? We thought to things the Red Sox could not win it all. If a Chris sale wasn't horse in criminal couldn't find themselves. Neither of those things happen Red Sox still what at all Tom. You guys touched on it in the open. You look at the strikeouts innings pitched the walks. Over three hundred saves the back of this baseball. Does you this card tells you he's been the one of the best in the last ten to fifteen years, not with that are there consume conservative course are one thing that we have seen more so than ever? There aren't very many early on Rivera's. There are many Trevor Hoffman's do it every year. You're seeing the same guy over and over. Because a little bit this year, a roller Shelvin wasn't looks a little bit last year. It's the fickle world of that night thing with that, son. I the reason I think it works for the company. Craig kimbrel. It's never struck me as a guy that likes to pitch multiple innings, and I think the way that Joe maddening he meant just kind of old school conventional way you back, everybody up now, scope will be comfortable in the eighth inning. If multiple options. I don't think the cubs are going to ask him very rarely will they ask him to get more than three hours. And I think that became an issue with the Red Sox last year because they were they were really trying to put some things together. And I don't think Craig Kim is very comfortable pitching more than three out safe. But I don't think the cubs are going to ask him to do that very often anyway, then police act from the MLB network. Joining us Lynn Sylviane ESPN, one thousand the big buzzword in the NBA or buzz term. Danny is load management guys are pitching or playing less. In order to be better when it's go time. So do you believe that maybe the rest whether or not he's rusty at the beginning? Could alternately help kimbrel in the cubs down the stretch one thousand percent. I really do because every reliever you're gonna go through two or three scratches a year. It it happens with every guy on every team where. In the month of may. You're in like eight of twelve games in their highlights games, then you'll go for a couple of weeks, where Doppler -tunities aren't there? You're picking games innings worth it. Normally those don't go very well very rarely. Do you see closer? They need to get a day's work. Like it ain't a couple of runs or it's an inning twenty seven twenty eight pitches. And it's kind of that, that the sword you walk on his manager. Like, do I want to get him in to get him sharp? I think with question down the creek Kimball that the cubs are going to get think right now. It should be able to and from everybody that I've talked to he keeps himself a good steak he thought a lot in the winter in a lot so far early spring and early summer. I don't think the arm build up the issue is going to be getting game ready getting that elbowing shoulder firing staff. Switch like it needs to do to throw ninety eight one hundred miles an hour. That's gonna come with time. But I. Think they're getting guy now that they can just load that starting gate and send the right on down the road when he's ready to go. I think he's gonna be ready to go the rest of the way I will say this would Craig kimbrel is on. You're gonna love his fastball ninety six hundred miles an hour. He's consistently ninety seven ninety eight bucks when he's on early. He has a buckling Kirpal trying to curb all that. They can tell you what's coming. And he looked precise each three times in a row. The TD Kimbrell is commanding the fastball in the strikes at times. He last year. He reminded me a little bit of Carlos mama. Remember all marble was four consistent. I thought going to breaking ball precise, that's only fastball for strikes and at times when Kimble's going bad. He gets that way too. But if he's doing strikes, he's going to be as good at really picture. Is you guys have seen the last twenty years to your when he's on. He's the best in baseball. How about that? So they look the cubs have gotten their guy, and it helps everybody in the bullpen Dan police from the MLB network. Did you hear how the team found out the news of the Kimbrell signing? I did not. So we'd happen when they were playing. Right. So story goes, I'm reading it from the tech maybe Jesse can expand on it. The story goes it shorter. Goes back to the video room to rewatch his single. He goes, but, you know they go back and they watch a lot of the there at bats right after it happens. He singles, he goes back to the video room and he. Years, lend Casper's voice over the television announced that Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the cubs are agreed with Craig kimbrel. So according to Jon Greenberg, soc Warburg budding physical. Comedian went back into the dugout and broke the news to his teammates by doing an impression of their newest teammate. Craig kimbrel. Quote went out there and gave it a little arm. Hang he said, so he said, then everyone of fans were even shouting into the dugout Kimbrell you got Kimbrell. So one of those trades that really gets you excited when you find trade assigning these huge boost for this team and I don't think anyone in the bullpen is offended by it, obviously, it allows everyone now to fill a role that they're more well suited to fill. So after hearing what you're hearing. How Jack are you three one two three three two three seven seven six? We'll take your comes calls. What else do you want to do with this team? And how good can this Cup? Team. Be Jesse Rogers is gonna join us in Manno, man. Oh man. The last half hour of the show to there was a ton of NBA finals news. Lots of drama to relay to you. We'll do that all in the final half hour of the show drama at our favorite McDonald's tomorrow. Right across from Wrigley field. We.

"Caused talk with all the parties that they've just talked about right there. I've got Selvi. He the little fusion, hands hair, and the big of Tommy, Waddell, and now only Craig kimbrel on board. I know how happy you are. First of all, I think JD if you're happy sitting in Jeff Dickerson. Thank you very for sitting in for our guy. Carmody. Getting all slopped up on bourbon down there, like the Jeff passan for joining us today. Jesse Rogers, the little guy jumped in with us to talk about Greg kimbrough and the and the Chicago Cubs are, are man. Randy merkin, the executive producer doing a wonderful job here. I said on the air behind the scenes at some total totally different. And of course, my guy this blitz you said Chris, like you said the word starts with a P. I said this this, I punched a K there. This point something Chris Blick. Yes. Our guy, Chris black. Thank you very kindly, wonderful job, that I welcome you to a board welcoming. Aboard. Boring. You're never smelled better sharing a studio within did today. Did looks great smells great. We had a great show better not. You guys are in. Right. And before we get to the Craig kimbrel stuff. I'm leaving. You'll play golf at Glen Woody today. Glenn woody. I'm using four clubs today. It's one of those things we're doing a four club nine hole. League experience today, I get to more strokes on my handicap, I'm going out there with the driver. Yeah, five nine. Yep. Eight iron. Yeah. Pitching wedge. Yep. And I'm using the pitching wedge to putting really. Like I do. But if you lose if you use than six clubs, you two strokes added your anger. Okay. I'm the ever club. Use less than six gets added your handicapped. So I go from eight to a ten nine holes chance for maybe year. Come in verse championship river nine holes. I got a partner to. Yeah. Why don't you put with your driver? It's got more of a flatter, sir. I like to put with the edge of the wedge later. Fly. Okay. I would I would I would do is, I'd take the driver and coke down on it. And I would put the the, the base front, I would show Jono, and I could make that work in fact by putting sucks right now. So I'm going to try something different next week when I'm in Tennessee. My dad's members. Gone over going to try. How about the sea of, you know? Lori on the call left hand low is what I'm going to try. So you used to be a conventional putter. I got the when I turned forty. Yeah. And all of a sudden seen in person. Cuckoo grass. It's the Kakuchaya he'll drive you crazy. We're, we're boring JD my first round of golf coming up this summer at Lake Tahoe and a couple of weeks. And I haven't played all summer tournaments playing in a private club, and I'm just hoping there's enough Tito's on the course to get me area, teen sauce, twelve all season boys. It's going to be ugly. He's awesome. You'll be fine JD. So what do you guys think kimbrough's on board is this, what you thought was this happening at the latter part of your show where they're rumors? Yes. Was there shaking while remember Ken Rosenthal, have the news? He was the only guy who was alone. And an island is out on a little ice per Michigan, Jesse too. I mean, look, I alternate -ly you connect the dots. And you wonder stand why they did this. They did this because problem, my guess I'll go with Jesse says they're probably getting the, the zobrist money back. They're going to get the Moro money back didn't cost them any trade equity. This was not draft pick compensation. It's not like they went out there and listen, I'm not taking anything away from him. But it's not like the owner had an epiphany and said, hey, you know what? I'm going to spend some money. Now he spent some money because they were getting some back. Right. They didn't not exceed this budget, right, at least for this year because remember next year like fifty seven millions coming out now they're going to get the money back from zobrist for our for long these out, maybe the whole year, and then whatever insurance, they get back on moral if he never pitches. So again, I'm not being critical. I'm just saying this. I don't think that change. Yes, yes, I agree that it's good move, you're going to get it's a plus b a new Dickerson kimbrel jersey in the in the household. I don't think so. No, I don't think so. I think again, I don't think he is that impressed with their one game lead over the brewers as I told you guys. My son is a huge front runner. So it's awesome. I love that about him front runner. So I mean one game does not impress Parker likes, I would think Parker likes colorful guy lake Craig kimbrel lot, like a dollar dollar loves the cubs. He loves Alabama. He loves Golden State. The station. I love it. He is. Well, he's got his bias jersey Glenn level. Fullest gets for him. He loves the blues all. Nice guys on top of his front running game. Some hockey game. Five tonight. Yeah. It's, it's on. Yeah. What happens? Yeah. Good luck on for some indepth reporting. Johnny came. I really love the way heads-up for that. Oh, really? Way to caress is playing in the net the net minders one of the keys to what they've got going on our plan. Char got a broken jaw be shocked. If he was not out there, he'd how he's going to be wearing a bubble. Matter of fact, he came out with a bubble already game didn't go in. He just sat on the bench with the bubble on the bubble sitting on a park bench bomb. Bob, I, I, I don't know what's going to happen tonight. I hope it's competitive game. And I hope the blues come out on top these golf Chinese cards Johnny's late night bar. Breaking news NBA finals shake at the stick owner. Yes. So this is about the push Kyle Lowry found out this morning that it was a minority owner in the warriors making himself share the team. Well, not quite there yet. But I'm going to go to any other game. The NBA just released the statement saying the following statement has been issued by Mike pass and be executive vice president communications regarding the conduct of. Golden State Warriors investor Mark Stevens it gained through the NBA finals last night. Quote, a team Representative must be held to the highest possible standard and the conduct of Golden State Warriors investor Mark Stevens last night was beyond unacceptable, and has no place in our league as the review of this manor continues, Mr Stevens will not be permitted to attend. NBA games. Didn't a female that was next to him. Actually, she was standing up and actually try to slap the ball when it came close didn't she will allow plowed into the woman in the second row. Right. And she just shook it off like a champ understanding. That's this. His work, you guys are going to die for basketball's. I don't there's actually people criticizing Kyle Lowry now for what he did. And those people are just morons looking for attention. Obviously runs in the world you can't. Ball. It's the finals. You can't just shove a guy do I can't. I can't I can't even imagine what was going through. That guy's head. He's the you know what? They're not used to watching their team. Get running out of their own buildings, not even a full team. I mean they're playing with washroom Klay. No durant. They'll they'll game for the former dollar in Canada was called the looney. Really? Yeah. Look at you. When was that was that in the eighteen hundred when they had their prime minister up there was named mall, Rooney and after him, they named the loony? And so. Looney going to Ken Rooney turns into looney. I'm just telling you what happened. Yeah. That's, that's my little tidbit. I was going to share that earlier during my time. It's too bad. I shared it during your time and you guys are gonna get all the credit win win. The bears used to play the bills I would drop a few Rooney's Canadian. That's what you get Schwerin. So be punch Tommy leg. Share? The looney is a gold. Colored coin that was introduced in nineteen eighty seven and is produced by the Royal Canadian mint. It's facility in Winnipeg never second. Guess you're still in use. The looney is still in use in Canada. What can I get for seven loonies, who was named after that's the key? Well, you can get about seventy three percent of the American. But you can get. Yeah. I created the looney JD. Well, let's see. I mean, there's eight after screen Elizabeth the second is on the back of the looney, y'all. You bet. She is the bird, the bird is on the front of the coin. Where's Mr. mold Rooney, and they were trying to emulate? The Susan b Anthony dollar the United States with the shape of it. You bet. They were. So that's, that's about the extent of my looney knowledge. Thank you. Educated now. Thank you. You're going. I'm here for you. Is there any other currency that you'd like to give us some odd facts about Johnny, no, none whatsoever? JD before you leave we wanted to bring up the you guys were talking about the kicker situation. We were debating about whether or not like the bears are I think Golic and wingo talked about if the bears are grasping at straws here. If they like I think they compared it to the bears have the yips now when it comes to the kicker in are they like searching too hard instead of just letting three guys compete, what do you think because Waddell and I differ on this, but they are letting three guys compete. They can't do anything else. But that right now but you can't tell me that if a better option becomes available in August, or September that they shouldn't jump on it. It's not like you have to teach a place kicker a brand new playbook. Just kick the ball, the ball I gotta do. I thought the argument that or the conversation we were having about all the cute antiques the day to day stuff that they're doing instead of just letting them kick in perform, whether it's the silence, whether it's the, I would they do the forty custom hearing. Going, but the forty three yard I mean like you know what? They're tricking up a lot of stuff. And that's where Waddell and I differ on. I don't make think it makes a crap load of difference in June up at Halas hall. I just don't. I mean listen. Whatever they do to me, is entertaining, but I don't think it has a whole lot of impact on who's going to win this job because everything's quiet and JD. I say these are three guys who have never really kicked in a true NFL game. You've nothing else to go by other than to try and trick it up. I'm not telling you the I'm not saying opposite of wattle the yes, they're gonna find an answer because of the silence and because of the tricks, but what they're trying to do is build up the pressure to see how these guys who have never kicked in and Neville game. React now if it was different if it was Robbie golden, they're doing this, or Matt Bryant was brought in but they're taking three guys who you've never heard of Elliott fry blue. And Pineyro and they've not kicked. I don't believe in a regular season NFL game. So they're trying to create as much pressure as possible. And think about the backlash. They'll face if they go out there against Green Bay in week one blue it's the job gets the job any blue blue Abiola or Pineyro MRs field goals in week two. I his telling you that the pressure is not good at it. You lose your job..

"We'll talk to Sarah Lang's I what about the cub signing Craig kimbrel. Let's get to it. Nightingale covers baseball for USA today. We're speaking to them for Phoenix on Thursday morning. And Bob finally Craig kimbrel signs. I think a big relief. Everybody in baseball. At least one of the two big free agents comes off the board. Yeah. It's amazing is taking this mom. I think just a case of price themselves to begin market, and nobody wanted to touch it. I don't think the labor and the draft conversation with that big thing. I really don't. I think it was just people don't think he was worth the money. He was asking. Yeah. Let's face it, if the bedroom versus in how the leave Apso it's the cubs aren't in the thing, either in Graham. Yeah, let's dig into that part of it. It was interesting because I was texting back and forth with some executives with various teams once said to me boy, that is a big risk. Another text me said, you know, nice deal for the cubs, and you would assume that they're logic is like this, a, obviously, they got a big hole at the back of their bullpen. Brandon Moro is playing catch. But nobody knows if he's going to pitch again they've struggled with their bullpen. They have cash available. You made reference the fact that Benz over a leave of absence. I don't think there's any. Any expectation necessarily is gonna come back and play, we'll have to wait and see. But because he's away from the team they don't have to pay him. And so they've got this cash available. They have a number of expiring contracts at the end of the year. And they're feeling might be. Hey, you know what you've got this guy has been an all star. He's been on a hall of fame subject. Three hundred thirty three career saves. We can bring them.

"This scoop out yesterday. The cubs reached an agreement with mobile Christopher mobiles mobile, Alabama mobile Alabama Christian catcher. Ethan Hearn he was their sixth round pick, but he is receiving second round money and he will forego his scholarship to Mississippi State. He's considered the best high school catcher in the entire draft was considered a very difficult sign. But by the cubs, taking someone at twenty seven who was rated a little lower. They can give him a lower amount of money. So the sixth round catcher gets second round money, and he is committed to the cubs. That is a great addition. There you go. So we'll see how it works out. What number do you think kimbro wears? It was forty six wasn't. He thought. Yes. He's forty six. Numbers are my thing is Forty-six. I believe it was fifty six Danny, what number was kimbrel in Boston. I think he was forty six forty six I do take I'm going to say forty six. I'll have to look that up much. No numbers says he's a numbers because I am a numbers. He's been Forty-six every place being goal was four fifty six or fifty eight. I believe tropes, forty six isn't he? Yes. So two stroke give up his number or does kimbrel takers. You're asking a lot of stroke. To relinquish, what was semi his role as the closer here in the in between time. And now the jersey. And I think there's zero percent chance that happens. Does he does? He say stroke, a man how much you want. I'm sure but that happens everywhere. Yeah. I think it ends up. Stroke keeps us number and kimbrel takes new mine. I mean how long how long stroke been around in the majors? Guess how many years I don't know how long he was in Baltimore. He's been cub since twenty thirteen. Okay. And how long's kimbrel been leak while? Yes cameras, a hall of Famer Yama say stroke keeps his number. I think if he asks Strope. Strope has worn other numbers he will sixty sixty four and forty seven so maybe the number doesn't mean that much to him. Yeah. I'm going to say stroke, keeps forty six okay? Those are always the greatest stories like the numbers guys, refusal to give them up and stuff like that creates tips at film ask you something if you're coming in as a new reliever, you're Craig kimbrel. They're like came in Pedro once keep forty six he's like, yeah. I don't even want it. It's his number. I'm not taking it away. A lot of guys are like that. What number would you pick what number would I pick up 'cause I know what I picked ninety nine man. Yeah. I pick sixty nine. Gronk. I think it'd be. Even know what that means. I mean what a juvenile response out of you. I'm gonna take it away. When I like the setup too long setup. If a dollar was the new religion choke you just award away into a dollar. You can I wear four twenty. I'm look for the cricket sound effect. Trying to try to save you here, aren't you? Glad the cubs don't have a stupid beard rule in place. I don't think that was going to stop it. I don't think that's kimbro would have shaved. Okay. Well, but his fans we didn't have to worry about it. Because we should that rule. Now Danny's barging into for candidate two minutes of bad jokes. Okay. Sixty nine as injured asked me what you, I would wear espionage. A drink every day that inside. Why man? SP. Four. What would we wear come on? And give us our numbers. Take time out, Jesse Rogers will join us. It was pretty clear yesterday. I don't think it's happening. It did Craig kimbrel cub..

"But I'm telling you, I really believe this Lonzo is going to be a star helpful with yet. He is my untouchable. Yes. What he does on the offensive part, how he gets the ball, moving ZOA getting everyone into all comes down to lonzo's got to be in the Anthony Davis trade. Anthony Davis is a totally different player than Bradley Beal, if it has to be two or three which I would hate then you, you have to make that deal because of who Anthony Davis is, but for Bradley Beal, no, I don't because I think it's too much, and I think Lonzo is going to be something that's important to this team moving forward and everything that he brings on his defense is elite. He is one of the best point guards defensively in this league. Boy, I would make the deal. No. You need another all star to play with Brian to somehow. So if you can't get them in free agency. You've got brand new Kyle. Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and LeBron. There is one theory, you know, who owns the wizards? No. So who what was the company, you've got mail? Is that America Online? Yeah. Well, yeah, that's Tim Leone SIS right Time Warner. Yeah. I think Ted Leonsis at one point known them he owns the wizards. And one of the theories being put out there is he wants messiah jury the GM raptor? So he's waiting for the finals to end. And then he's gonna throw a big money offer. It you juror well in that case. That would have to happen really fast. Right. Well as soon as Drinan shrines out he could do it, but are there are allowed to talk to him before handwriting. I don't think the, the raptors would give them permission until after. But maybe, maybe they would yeah they'd have to move really fast if they're going to cause the finals that we over win July the fifteenth before the draft. No, no June. They'll be June. The fifteenth rent right in there. And then the draft is June the twentieth. Yeah. And you went anticipate that Bradley Beal trade, if you were involved in it, and you were gonna use the number four pick it would be somewhere in the five days. Don't find John over that what can happen, and what has happened a lot is you cut a deal. In order to make the numbers were asked the player one. You just tell them what you want. And you go from that. Okay. That's a Lakers. Get kobe. The Lakers had a deal with Charlotte that if Kobe was still in the board. Yup. When he got to thirteen Charlotte would take him and train him to the Lakers for Voday diva. Okay. Does that happen? All right. Quick update. Dodgers batting top of the seventh or up to one Julio reas has relieved. Has relieved Kanta my ADA and there's jock Peterson. Who continues his his role? He's been so good. All right. Coming up for you next. What Stephen a Smith said about Kyrie Irving and K, D, Mason, and Ireland. ESPN. LA. ESPN LA, Mason, Ireland. Let's see. Just one nugget earlier. We talked to BUSTER, only about Craig kimbrel. Former closer for the Red Sox, he said he thought the twins might get them Ken Rosenthal of the athletic reporting that the cubs are pushing hard. With they've been without closer, Brandon Morrow all season and tried to get by with Pedro Strope. So they're also in the mix for kimbrel. The dodgers are not in the mix for kimbrel at all despite their bullpen problems. All right. Last night, they did a late night..

"Netting down the foul lines, I won't have access to autograph baseball chances to talk to players foul balls. All those things. And I just think that there is, you know, a core people in baseball who believe. Well, that's the way it's always been. But look, here's the reality of it, too. I mean, besides trying to do the right thing as each team begins to extend netting down to the foul lines. And I think it's inevitable. It's going to happen. It means that the teams that don't become. They are suddenly in a much more vulnerable legal situation. That's what I'm saying. I mean, isn't there clear? Right. Because very clear with public documents look all these teams may change because they're aware that people could be hurt. And you guys didn't do it. And that's why it will eventually happen. Yeah. Yeah. Even now I think the, the liability is up on teams for not for not doing it. All right. Let's talk the major league baseball draft is over. That means it's time for Craig kimbrel in Dallas kaikal to be able to sign their contracts. I have I've described the Kimbrell gambit which I don't expect to happen. But the dodgers would add kimbrel to their bullpen probably unrealistic. But where's it gonna land? Yet, it's amazing because I mean, we all thought that there was a chance that once we got into past the draft and they're no longer tied to draft pick compensation that they would sign. But here's the thing you still keep hearing from teams that they feel like that, you know, the, the, the respective negotiating camps. These players are just simply unrealistic given the the concerns about the individual players. My guess is we sit here today that Craig kimbrel winds up with the Minnesota Twins who have a chance to win. They'd be one of the teams that would probably would make sense for them to consider Craig kimbrel on a multi year deal and a Dallas kaikal, you know, an educated, guess, is that eventually, it will work out, something with the Yankees, I think the Yankees comfort level is a pro rated deal equivalent to what he would have got into qualifying offer a one year contract, and I just don't think there are a lot of teams that view these guys being rock-solid absolute one hundred percent certain solutions. And that's.

"When you try to execute a series of those deals. Yeah. That's fair. At a I think that's that's completely fair. And these offices are are, you know, not only smart, but there's there's a discipline that they bring, you know, I do think that it's one of the things that shifted, and I don't know that it's it's a good thing every single time. But there's a I mean, it's really clinical and disciplined, and it is it is so process-based. I mean, so process we were gonna stay in this process. Meaning is a free agent on the market. What do we all you that free agent that we've Al Youm at us years for X amount of money? And if the AJ comes in says will we do it we've out you him at plus one year and plus the team million dollars. Thanks, great to talk to you. Never. Again. I mean, like, I I'm saying that extreme matter. But there really is that aspect of it. There's just no emotional because I do think I think every once in a while where it's law is you're better off with the player most of the time, or at least a lot of the time. You know, what I mean that that like it's where it gets interesting like in credit Kimble's case is. These teams make the decision they build a team they say it'll take ninety one wins for us to win a playoff spot. And we built a team that has good enough to win ninety two and a half game. And Craig kimbrel would add a win or win and a half for the rest of the year. I've just I'm making this all up, but they they are not if they built it if they say the playoffs will take ninety one win did they built and team that will get them ninety two and a half when they are not interested in giving them in paying to give themselves a buffer that may increase their to like once they're past the threshold the Natal's see value in adding that guy more often than now. And I think that at times that can be logged. But I'm, but it's interesting is heck, and I and I respect it. I really do. I totally agree with you. We got about four minutes. Left along those lines of what you said we actually got this bleach or tweet for you. This is from Schultz at bench dolts twelve. He writes, boop said last week that teams use analytics to know, exactly. How many wins they need to win their division? Does that mean team such as Colorado are Oakland resigned to competing for the wildcard or they just hoping to catch lightning in a bottle bougie want to answer that? Yeah. I mean, look, I think that there is a matter of what there is. There is certainly a matter of what. What they'll say externally? But there absolutely is known as having projection on how many games that they will win. They were aware that they may not win that many games. I mean, for example, the two thousand thirteen Boston Red Sox. I believe their internal projection system had them winning like eighty six games ended up winning. I think ninety four and women division. So again, it you know stuff. But yes, they absolutely sit there and Billy beam David forced have built a team that I would assume is saying they're in house projection is we're gonna win X amount of games. And they have a projection that says the Astros are going to win more games. So like for sure they're sitting there saying our way in that we built a wildcard level team. And my guess would be the Jeff right? It's it's the same thing this year. But they I don't believe that. They that they built a team where their projection system says that they're going to win as many games at the dodgers. I think that their expectation. They're not it's not like a hundred percent of the rest of their patient is yes, they'll be competing for the wild card. Not the division. And as we speak negatively, it's time to talk about the Marlins, okay in April, or I don't even know who you are anymore. I I know can have can be done in the face by beat..

"This is how it works in today's game. You don't you don't play from one run like it did in nineteen eight TIMMY last time. It happened was nineteen sixty three curt Simmons last pitcher to steal home. Wow. Very good guys that I mean, the internet is a powerful. Funnier you pretended to no. No, it really cause your lies aren't what fuel us around here. Tim kirksey. Did that's the place that you decided you wanted to tell the truth, it's all the places history of our relationship together. That's where you thought, you know, what it's important that I go with the truth that I'm stealing material here. Tim Craig kimbrel. We were talking about this yesterday. Is there a kimbrel in every bowl is was the question because I was saying is he still the hardest thrower. And they were telling like how is the hardest thrower not pitching in there. Like there's one in every bullpen now. No there is not a Craig kimbrel in every poll pants, and he's he might not be the hardest thrower in the game when he plays. And there are lot of guys like him. But to say, everyone is hard as him would be inaccurate. I remember Matt dyas once told me that he faced Craig kimbrel and he said his ball literally rises in the strike zone. And you know, physically that's not supposed to be allowed to happen. His physics teacher sister rose told that impossible for a fall to rise like that and Matt diet elevated with all due respect to sister rose. She never face Craig kimbrel. His stuff is ridiculous. And he should be pitching in the big leagues and their tons of hard throwers. But he throws so hard that Johnny bench one of his teammates told it is fly catch before every game. I I can't play catch with you at or. Throw too hard. It's no fun. I get hurt doing it. So I'm not playing catch with you anymore before the games. Dallas gyco. What the hell him and him and kimbrel explained that Tim easily as you can how are two guys that are clearly valuable pitchers not playing major league baseball right now. Well, they're bunch of reasons in kaikal case people look at him and say he doesn't miss enough fat. And he's thirty one years old. That's not what we're looking for and with kimbrel. They're just not gonna pay a reliever three or four years of big money. This is the those guys are not playing mostly because they're not willing to come down to a number that a team is willing to pay today because both of them are really good. And could really help a team does. Matt Patricia looked like the data at the restaurant who lies that it's his seven year old's birthday. So he can get a free bowl of ice cream. Does boomer Assias looked like the concept art for the Simpsons? A one seed, man. That is a one great does Brett Brown looked like your mom's new, quote, unquote friend who's taking her on a cruise. Brett brown. Always looked like he's just been laid off. Bryce harper. Looked like he spits his gum in a year or known. His Mel kiper looked like the old wise bald eagle in an animated movie that makes sure. Tim. Phil. Dawn, you gotta let me finish. Does Mel kiper. Look like the old wise bald eagle in an animated movie who make sure the young eagles are all being properly. Majestic and proud eagle. Louis you're on with Tim cartoon, go ahead. Jim I was wondering if there's ever been a better defensive middle infield. Then Roberto Alamar, Omar Vizquel. It's the greatest one I've ever seen. Verno Elamine is the greatest teeth pensive second baseman. I've ever seen the typically he doesn't match up with Bill Masire Ascii who one year took part in a hundred and sixty two double plays. And no other second base in the league took part in a hundred think about that per second after as Smith, Omar Vizquel, Eze greatest defensive shortstop I've ever seen. So the second grade assure stuff I've ever seen and the best second baseman. I've ever seen play together for several years. It was breathtaking, and I always always made time to watch those guys during VP or take infield..

"So he's just waiting for an injury on a good team. But what are his are his demands unreasonable? Like what what is that guy worth? What the asking for? What is I don't know the nature of the disagreement? I mean, clearly he's asking for too much. You guys have been talking all like you've been doing it all year. Why is Dallas Heikal not pitching? And no one's giving me a good theory. I'm sure some other people have done the reporting on this. There's a good answer. Is there? Not a good answer in this room. Well, he wanted a multi year deal for a lot of money and teams want to give him a lot of money for multiple years. So now he's back down to heat except one year like seventeen million or something. And no one's biting yet. Knowns by this guy was twenty eight with a two four eight year or a three seasons ago, we won the Cy Young, and you know, two years ago, we had a two point nine zero ERA. He's a good pitcher can't get a job. Did you know that Pattni shack is still doing his thing? Greg Kimble kimbrel. Same thing. Kimbrough's not pitching for anybody. Either. Right. It's the two of them and Kimbrell is is outside of Chapman is kimbrel. The hardest thrower in baseball is. He still that ninety more. Every teams six guys. A hundred to seven times the game. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. You guys are telling me forgive me. Because I did know that Kimbrell was out of the league. I didn't know that Kimble's velocity had gone from fastest. "You are wasting roster. Spot on a guy that you've already wasted money on what's worse than wasting thirty nine million dollars on you know, what each wasting a roster spot on that same guy that you've already wasted money on? I wouldn't I understand why he made the big league roster and why you gave him the ball this weekend. I do. I mean, you you've got to try to find a way to rectify his situation. Do it a AAA each with Brian dancing? He was good for you two years ago. Ultimately, that's probably where he'll go. But I think because of the investment they have in him. They're trying to see if he can recapture things, but I don't think that they'll have a very long leash with him. He's never been a bull pin arm Waddell. So if you want him to recapture he needs to start every fifth day, he needs to look you've already wasted the thirty nine million. It's already prevented you from improving your team because the money you spent now would you do now you wasted a game yesterday because he had to come in. And he gives up a home run. Then he walks a couple of people in Montgomery's gotta inherited a bad situation. You're already down arms in the bullpen. Now. I've got to worry about Tyler chat would pitching in the seventh inning. Like you said you're down arms and your bullpen. So you were hoping that he would fill that void. And I get it. He has never he what do you think he worked on in spring training? He wasn't working on being a starter. He didn't have a spot in the rotation. So I get why they had him on the roster. And I get why they gave him the baseball. Sadly, a lot of what you saw last year was on display in his first outing, and my guess is they won't hang with him for very long. But I'm not surprised that that they kept him on the big league roster to start the season or that they gave him the baseball. But you're right. I mean, he continued to show you that he's not reliable. Craig kimbrel. The answer. That's a question and wanna ask cubs fans coming up. Where's your level of frustration? Look, it's three games. We're talking in the context of knowing that nobody's preseason. Prediction is going to change three games in. I ninety three wins Waddell in ninety three wives. We're staying ninety three. I'm not. But when vote Wayne Lakota over to alter the change. Ninety two ninety three the way that team was hitting this weekend. But when you when when you look at one of your top concerns, and they live up to those low expectations, then you say, uh-huh. Uh-huh. And does moral ever come. I mean, can you count on moral coming back and what about kimbrel cap says? No, I want to see what you think Waddell, three one two three three two three seven seven six to toxin base. But they're using that as a cover to say, we're not signing these guys, and there's a lot of great players out there that aren't being signed and a lot of teams that aren't trying to win. And so that's collude. Well, okay, colluding would be if they all got together and decide hey, let's not sign these guys because they're asking for too much money. What if it's just a market correction? What did you the market correction where they go? Like, you know, why do we have to pay ju just because the guys somebody Craig kimbrel? Bina? Somebody would assign Dallas Kyko by now. I don't believe that. I don't I don't I don't believe it was collusion before that included before they've done it before. I don't know. I don't know why wouldn't be the case again. And again, I understand some of these long term deals don't work out. We got our pupils in this town to understand their stand that more as well as anybody, but you have to try to win in sports part of the trust with the fans is to do whatever you take with their their hard-earned money you're taking their money in and tournament into a win to a to a winning team. And when he sees and these teams aren't even trying and again, eight of them or more than a hundred million under the luxury tax. So they could spend a hundred million dollars the the game made eight ten billion last year. Ten billion to reverence last year. Now, it's not the national sport that football is but regionally and again, the dodgers eight billion dollars alone on the TV deal. Don't know. I look I understand..
"kimbrel" Discussed on Xtra Sports Radio 1300 AM
"Yeah. You know, unless something heats up off a quick I'm going to say it's going to drag out another week or two, and I'll tell you what like a lot of people getting worn out waiting for this like a lot of people. I just shake my head thinking these are two reagents that are only twenty six years old how can four teams not be knocking on their door. And I tell you, you know, I was thinking about this Jodi. And I mean, it's the old hot stove Lee is is usually what helps feed fan interest. And it's just been so tepid, I think was your word. Last couple of years. And you know, what it reminds me of it's beginning to remind me of the season. We've reached a point last couple of years. How much are we talking led by Commissioner? Rob Manfred about all the dead time in the game. And is that a problem or is that not a problem? You know, we reached were strikeouts and walks can consist of about thirty percent of e of at ads across the league. And we reach a point where baseball's really examining itself because there's too much dead time during games. Well, you know, what's happened? That's just moved into the winner. Now same thing as we talk about during the year. It's just too much dead time. Baseball's going to have to to itself up a little bit. And it because right now between the dead time during the season and at that time of the hot stove league. It is not generating the excitement that it should be generating. All right. I'll go worst case scenario Harper and Machado both go all the way into spring training. And they take the best deals that they can kinda like what I JD Martinez did last year, and he didn't get a bad deal. And he got early opt-outs if he goes nuts and can go back onto the free agent market. But certainly less than most baseball guys like yourself and me and everybody else who make predictions on these things thought his overall contract was going to be saved happens for both of those guys this Boris is it a world and not just going to let this slide. They're gonna claim collusion. They're gonna say baseball screwing the players they make more money than ever before. Does it have any carryover effect? Or does this is all just spouting from the mount until we get to our next collective bargaining agreement. And then are we looking at a potential work stoppage? Yeah. I mean, that's what worries me is. I think we're starting down that path. I mean, I I don't think you know. I mean look at Evan longoria yesterday. I think it was yesterday. Right. Might have been two days. I think it was yesterday when he posted on Instagram, and it got some playing social media, you know, kind of a plead the team say it's talking about how you know. Look, I can't believe that this many good talented players are just sitting in that there's no action on them. And as you pointed out, and I think, you know, I don't want to say that Instagram post and social media posts was on behalf of the players sociation. But you know, the players sociation thinking the same thing like Goria pointed out that this is dangerous time because as as analytics have. Has moved into all front office offices. What you do when you're value at all the players by computers is laborious point. Was you know, every front office is devaluing players, and they're letting them through computer programs, and they're all looking at this. These are the reasons we should not pay a this a few million bucks to this player or two that player or obviously in Harper Machado case, these are reasons we shouldn't pay three hundred million to them. And I find that an interesting post from my Gloria, I know a lot of players echo that I think the players union does I think they're looking hard at this. We heard so much that last winter was slow, but part of it might be because teams were saving money to spend this winter because we all do their three agents available this winter. And so far that's not happened. That's not to say we couldn't have a last month sprint to the finish line. Where all of a sudden money goes crazy, but it's not looking good agreed. Tomorrow hot stove. And then I want to ask about the hall of fame ballot. Craig kimbrel. Still not signed Machado and Harper the two biggest free agents. I'd say Kimble is probably the third. Biggest left out there. I defended kimbro all off season. Because I think people went nuts, so overstated his shortcomings in the postseason. He did not blow a save in the postseason. He was six foot six in save opportunities. Put run a John Jay Leno run score when they were up by or three game mighty given some red sock fans. But he got the job done. Every single time is his market is slow as it is. Because he was looking for too much to begin with that he really is paying a price for that off season postseason work, or is it just again something in baseball. The Dave now clamped down and said every innings all the same. So we're not paying more for the night. I a little bit of all of the above. I think you know, we heard again, we won't know until Craig kimbrel. Maybe decides one day, and maybe it's spring training or April may confirm or deny remember there was a report in early in the off season kimbro was looking for a ten year deal that even for closers greatest kimbrel. Ten years seems pretty out there because we all know the the most volatile market is relief pitching market. And they're very darn few. Mariano Rivera is where guys is holds. Greatness for ten or more years. So I don't know if that report is accurate, and again, it'll be interesting eventually when we can talk to Craig kimbrel and find out what it is or not, you know, that would suggest maybe he he's he's he started a little bit too high in his expectations. But that said I think there are some team scared off by the post season. I would argue kimbrel had a little bit of a shaky September. And there was some talk that he was tipping pitches. And I think you know, I covered the Red Sox Houston Surrey's. And that's when that came up and the Red Sox were like, we're not worried at all about kimbro we determined. We think he's he's tips and pitches, we've got it fixed. He's going to be fine. And as you know, there's blow save in the postseason. So I think there's a little bit of wariness because of some of the shakiness, but I think that had more to do with tipping pitches than it had to do. Do with you old Craig kimbrough's yesterday's news. So that all that said, I think those are some reasons that I also think yeah, I mean with with front offices again everybody now is is leads on analytics, and there's some that is hey, the ninth innings the same as the seventh inning. No. We don't need to pay a guy that much money just close by Bennie. So I think kimbrough's getting hit from multiple directions on all of this. Got into a little debate on this earlier today your perfect guy to ask because you know, what you're talking about. And be you don't have a dog in the fight. Who's got the better starting rotation going into two thousand nineteen solely for the two thousand nine hundred nine season. If you could go to war with one of these two rotations, which one would you choose to Graham, Syndergaard Wheeler, Matt's Vargas or Severino Tanaka. Paxton hap-, Sobat, dear. That's that's a really good question. I think that that could be a good barroom debate for many many years. I think if we're saying everybody's healthy. Let's assume good health. I make Mets. It's so hard to go wrong. I mean, the degrom and Syndergaard if they're who we think they are the Yankees don't have that as a one to atop their rotation. So I would lean. That's I like the James Paxton accusation acquisition for the Yankees. But again health, you know, he's a guy that has been able to make it all the way through the year. The last couple of years without going on the DL if you can that's going to increase the stock of the Antes rotation if he's healthy all year. But you know, if if we're talking good health all the way around it's hard for me, not veer toward a rotation starts with with Senator Nancy. I went Yankees because I don't know it will matter yet. Neither one is at a full year. Year in the big leagues. And I need to see that. Yes. Grounds. One debatable. Syndergaard and Severino to even if you go Syndergaard second, I take Paxton over Wheeler hap- over mad since about the over Vargas. That's why I went Yankees. But it's really is a one debates. I did you make public your fame. Ballot yet. I haven't yet. I did vote. I haven't yet because wait until closer tell I we're almost to the day Tuesday. But yeah, it'd be interesting. I think obviously everybody wants to know his Mariano Rivera gonna be unanimous. I'm the troublemakers a group. I mean, I will say yes, I did vote for him no-brainer. I'm hoping he's not unanimous simply because I love sitting back and watching debate, you know, what if Arianna Rivera just in at ninety nine percent of the vote. He's a hall of fame or you don't have to have one hundred percent. I think it's quirky that nobody ever had one hundred percent. But I don't know who the guys were looked at papers. I don't think he's a hall of Famer tab vote for him Ted Williams, and I'm not going to check this box. It's nuts that none of these guys have been one hundred percent. I think it's an oddity that I hope continues. All right last thing on a hall of fame ballot. As a guy who has hosted shows in New York here for decades, always said about Mike Messina and Andy Pettitte, both very close. But both just short for me. It at least on the ballot to that been counted that his point by Ryan at not Mr. Tibbs is sitting in the eighty percent. Dial looks like he's going to get in and e pennants in about six percent. I always thought them as of as very similar all candidates. One guy's got ADD. Others got six is it because petted admitted to taking steroids? I think that's what might separate them. I don't know if that separates of eighty percent to six percent that. Yeah. I don't think there's that many voters that hold the steroids against I will say full disclosure, and it's not a secret. Even though I haven't read the Bill by ballots this year, anybody that knows me or his read my columns in the past or see my ballots. I am a hardline around the hall on steroids. And and and you know, I I I don't vote for guys. I don't vote for bonds and Clemens because of that and had it to me, even though he said all I only did it once he falls in the same category. I I don't think I believe in that. He only did it once whatever he admitted it. So the steroid guys who are known users or or highly I said, I don't vote for so pet. It's not on my ballot. Again, not a huge secret. 'cause I go back to my ballot last year. I did vote for Messina. So. So you can probably even though I have publicly admitted yet where my ballots this year. I guess if I both for last year, you're right. Both of those guys have I guess if you argue they're both short, take the steroids away for a minute Pettit. Obviously great October's that you know, his his October performances. Good certainly bolster his case Besina pitched his entire career in the Nash in American League east against those monstrous lineups. I guess, you know, if if you're a small hall guy who you think the the standards should be really really extremely high. Then you're probably going to say, yeah. You know, Messina Pettit are short. But if if you know, if your standards are I'm not gonna say low if they're still really high just a small hall guy, if you're a little bit bigger than you probably think they both get in. Scotty, great stop. She you coming on board. I hope you get some juicy stuff too, right? Right about this week. At least have the hall of fame the comment. Don, looking forward to reading your bud.
