Leury Garcia HR in 9th Lifts White Sox Over Red Sox 2-1
"The white Sox pulled out a two one win over the red Sox and Mary Garcia's home run in the bottom of the ninth your great management great especially you know home this is one of the best moment for me that I'm coming so far Garrett Whitlock struck at Eloy Jimenez and Yasmani Grandal to begin the inning Garcia fell behind to before slamming a pitch over the wall in center Chicago took a one nothing lead and a three hit shutout into the night before Alex Verdugo hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded off Craig Kimbrel the outcome gives the white Sox a magic number of no more than nine to win the AL central and keeps the red Sox nine games behind the AL east leading race I'm Dave very

"36 and the Great city of Chicago with Jonathan Hood and celebrated a big birthday yesterday and went out to dinner with his wife had nice chat with you. I even sang to you for your birthday. Did you like that? Yeah, I liked it. Like a brick in the face. I liked it. You're better than how many you're just. I mean, you're no You know Lawrence Welk. Jesse Rafters joins us Now here on Cap and Jay Hood, Jess. A good morning. How are you? I'm good. Good morning and happy birthday, Jonathan. I did not know that. I hope you had a good day. I don't know. You know, I don't know that. I mean, it was on every billboard in the city. Okay, 64. He does not look at it. You do not like a day over 52. How about that? Jesse? A little socks, action, beating the A's all West Coast. My partner could not stay up and I watched every bitch your thoughts, sir. The socks get the job done in in Oakland, a house of horrors for them over the years. Yeah, I stay up, so you guys don't have to. I certainly got on those zooms afterwards. I actually thought it was one of the better games of the year. To be honest, when you consider It's Jimmy Lambert starting right. It's on the road where they are basically a 500 team to playing without Tim Anderson, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. I thought they played well. The eighth inning had a little hiccup. Kimbrough got out of it. And they shut the door. I actually thought it was one of their better wins, especially when Lambert settled down. He looked a little shaky early, but this is what the socks have done. And it reminds me a little bit of Of things I've heard in the last five years. Going back to the Cubs, You know, glory days with the young players is that young players now have to come up and make a difference. Like never before. You are not hazed anymore. You're not treated like a rookie. You are. You are brought in the family and think about the socks, young players, some sheets and Vaughn to Lambert that have contributed and it just wasn't like that in the old days, and I saw that with the 15 16 cubs as well. So I just thought it was a really good win when you consider their one game behind the Astros for home field in that first round, Houston with two runs in the ninth, win it in the 10th so they won last night. You had to keep pace with them. Both these teams are so much better. I'm talking about the Astros and white socks at home than on the road. So I feel like home field is important. Getting healthy is number one. But getting that home field should be right there. One a Jesse. What is the biggest concern you have is this club makes its way to the postseason. I think the White Sox are what a half game or a game behind Houston have home field advantage in that series. I mean, if you really narrow this thing down Mean the matchups White Sox in Houston, or you've got Boston and the Yankees? I mean, it's gonna be a tough gauntlet to run through. What Still you better believe it. Biggest concern you have. Yes, American League playoffs are going to be great. I mean, they are going to be great. Look, maybe three weeks ago, I would have said, making sure Kimbrough and Hendrix have that role. Lockdown. Like you know, it was a little shaky there for a moment, mostly on Kimbrel's part pitching in the eighth, and by the way, he came into a dirty inning last night, which I think is an important sort of experience for him. He hasn't done that a ton in his career. He gave up a hit, but then he shut the door. I like that idea getting him in there and some dirty innings. But that's not my concern. I think it's obvious that there are injuries on the mound. Now, something they've avoided. All season are happening at the worst time of year. It's a knee for Lance Lynn. Okay, probably not a big deal. Giolito leg injury, Probably not a big deal, but certainly rodent now being pushed back after that injured list stint is a concern. I don't think there's any doubt The bigger picture. If you think about it, the three of them, you know, might get a couple starts here as the season Weinstein. But are they going to be on the role? You want to see them on a roll? Now? Maybe. You know, I asked you a little about this. Maybe it only takes one start. If you're out for a couple weeks, and you have that good ones start at the end of September. That's all you need. But as a fan, if you've watched them all season, I think you feel a little nervous. Jay, could you tell me When they're not in the lineup in September, right? Yeah, you want to see them rolling and right now they're not rolling because they're not pitching. My hope is is that at the end of you know, at the end of September, we will be able to see a lot of these guys healthy lens Judge Alito's I don't want them to take a step back when they do return. I want them to be right on target as they were when they were in the rotation. And my question is about Tim Anderson. So it is interesting to watch Tim because Tim was just taking time off before he was in the on the injured list. But there's no timetable. What have you heard about Tim? As far as his return is an imminent I think they're just being cautious. I really do extra cautious. Remember, he played through some of this. I think if this was the playoffs, he'd be playing where If this was the playoffs, you'd still be a little nervous about Rodin or the other injuries. To that staff. So I I, You know, he's on the eye else. We're gonna take the full 10 days. You don't have to ask to be in the lineup every day. So let's see how this plays out. I mean, it's not like he was Ever a guy that had to leave a game, right? It was just like their maintenance with these legs. And Gheit. Yeah, that he uses like so much for his game both offensively and defensively. I'm not overly concerned. I'm just not with Tim Anderson. Now again, almost like the pictures, though You want to see him in the lineup for about 23 weeks just to get on that role. Maybe it just means, you know, maybe it just means 10 games, whatever it is, whatever the amount is, and I tried to ask Giolito that So what do you need to feel like you're rolling, and he really didn't have a great answer. And maybe these players just don't know because they have never, you know, other than last year, they have been through this sort of prepping for the playoffs and certainly not over 1 62 J. Hood. So I think I'm okay with Anderson. But you're right if he's hurting, that's a big question Mark because they're basically a 500 team without him in the lineup, But you have to hope that all the time off Now we'll get the legs ready for the For the stretch. Run, Jesse before we wrap things up talking white socks with you, the TV ratings I was able to glean from some sources in the industry. The White Sox for the first time since 2000 and six when they were coming off the World Series, and they still won 90 games. The White Sox are going to win the TV ratings battle. NBC Sports Chicago won all five head to head games when it was Cubs Sox because one was a national game on ESPN. Does that surprise you that the White Sox will not only win, but they'll win convincingly. Only a tiny, not really. Here's my feeling, if if they were both winners and winning teams, and the Sox won the ratings battle That would surprise me if they were both losing teams, and the Sox won the ratings, But the socks have a World Series contender. And the Cubs have a team basically void of stars or names that a lot of people know so it doesn't surprise me..

He's been a better hitter than anthony. Rizzo was during his diamond chicago and that's going to ruffle some feathers now. Of course the sample size in the timeframe are not the same but frank swindell show and then he shows up and he belongs in the big lakes right. I they gotta get a few more of these guys. You traded for a ton of kids at the deadline. You traded kris bryant. Your traded anthony. Rizzo get traded kimbrel. It traded heavier bias. Who'd you get back for. Let's take a look at them. Let's put them in the show. Let him play. let them get out there ultimately. Yeah they may not be ready. Oh they're not on the forty man roster we don't wanna start their big league time. I understand that from the business side of things from the fan side of things. I absolutely aid it. But ultimately i get it but get some of these kids here let them play and if even they're not the kids from that trade let the aaa guys come up. "To do with Guerrero in that situation, and he is red hot. Here's a guy that had for years Yadi Molina and look at him. Tell Savalas Look over here. You got a base open. You got the best hitter on their team and you give him a 31 fastball. Look at me. I'll tell you what I want done. Still got the fired and they packed I mean, that fire would probably be best viewed from the top step. If, in fact you really did not want why couldn't he just Tony just come up and screamed or put four fingers in the air? Said. Hey, take a base. And if whatever reason that got lost in translation in any way, shape or form, or they just didn't connect Lance Lynn who I thought did the veteran thing and did the leader, you know, showed leadership when saying guys, that's all me Regardless of what's being done. It's a three accounts. I can't throw Vlad Guerrero Jr. Anything to hit in that particular moment, one Nothing. It's one nothing. That was a bad mistake made by a veteran pitcher who may win the Cy Young this year. And I don't know where the communication breakdown occurred. Now, now is it up to do they tell Zavala that part of his job description? Like that. And and has he been doing it? Even when a veteran picks pitches to look over to look over whether it's pitch call, whether it's putting a guy on like did he make the mistake of not looking over and Tony was at the dog or Ethan Cats was in the dugout, motioning for Yeah, then I don't know that I don't know. But if I where I'm open to saying like, if that's in something that they tell Zach Collins, and that's something that Grandal does as well, you would think also knowing that you have a rookie catcher behind the plates. That That you may need to be more Aware of the situation. I'm more aware of the situation but more proactive with making sure that they got the message from the dugout. Just don't rely on like, you know, Yasmani Grandal all if he was in there as a veteran catcher to know what to do there, so look. I mean, The communication issue. If there's a communication breakdown, that's something that needs to be fixed. But at the end of the day, even if there's a communication breakdown, I liked what I heard from Lance Lynn Land said that this is on me, and I know better right is going to know better than I do that. I can't throw him a strike can throw him a competitive pitch here. I got to make them fish outside the zone or put them on. And I don't know what it is about three no accounts, but it's a controversial account for the White Sox. It is you're right about that. And there is time like there's time for most pitchers to it. Once you get three, and you're out of three into account, you've probably got 20 seconds. To make sure that they're got. They've got your attention from the dugout right right. Well and then you know, it's funny because the 30 pitch now has become in baseball. Remember used to be stupid. Where baseball used to give the automatic takes on, right? Yeah, three. You know, it's a red light. Now. It's the new 31. Where a lot of these good hitters on three Oh, that's the best picture. Yeah. Then you get a cookie and that that loss stung. I mean, it's one of 1 62. I get it, but it was like one of those unnecessary and the Blue Jays may have come back and beat you anyway. But they were their own worst enemy. It wasn't just that scenario, but against Kimbrel they got they got an infield single. Then there was a passed ball. Then there was another ground ball that got the runner to third and then Kimbrel through the wild pitch. Did you see what Kimbrel's numbers are with 10 appearances with white sacks? I did not. I've seen these numbers where when he was pitching in the eighth inning versus the ninth inning 10 appearances with the White Sox, Kimbrel has allowed six earned runs over nine and a third innings. I read that today in midway minute for a 579 earned run average. Only one of the appearances came in the ninth inning. And how much of that do you believe is just a picture going through some valley moments in a season or getting used to mean okay or getting used to a different role that they're asking him to play? No, I believe he's regret. I believe that's why it was so important for the Cubs to deal him and deal him at peak value. Again like we've seen him struggle We saw Hendrix have had vaccinated right? And Hendricks has had moments this year. So I mean, real man, Kyle right that, Liam, But I mean, the point is, is it be very unusual for Kimbrel to go through the entire season without a couple of hiccups. Okay, I'm just going to tell you this Sox fans that while Craig Kimbrel as a 579 earned run average in 10 appearances for your team, Cody Hoyer has a 1.5 e R. A In 12 innings with the Cubs. All right, That's enough nonsense there when we come back, How do you want to get that Want to get your thoughts on a bull's ranking? Real quick? So the luis severino conundrum. Obviously the way you look at it is it. it's exceedingly i. It's exceedingly frustrating. Because you see. Chris sale coming back against the for the red sox and he's got this wild whip pitching motion. Everything about it looks unnatural. He was predicted. Tommy john candidate forever because you know. Obviously all pitchers break to a certain extent but everything about chris. Sale looked unnatural bizarre like a vulture strange. Not the way you teach it and he finally it seems like he's injured at the end of two thousand nine hundred nine. He sort of getting shut down. Getting the prp injections and stuff twenty twenty. They finally decided to go for and give them the tommy. John any misses the requisite amount of time. He misses the time that you need. We have from the surgery. He comes back and he's you know no setbacks through all twenty twenty one looking good looking strong building himself up You know at the minor league level is throwing a lot of pitches. Maybe he's not missing bathroom his fastball. But you know by and large. He looks like chris sale when he comes back facing the orioles helps that but e basically looks like chris sale that that's what's happening luis severino of course shoulder issue in twenty nineteen so forgets forgets when game. Three of the ale starts in two thousand eighteen one of the most depressing moments of my phantom. That's insane whatever. The real story was didn't seem prepared for that game got blasted by the red sox and what was a pivot game on route to the red sox world title so the red sox win the championship that year after one hundred wins in the regular season. Maybe they don't if luis severino is an ace and deals in that game. Three and then suddenly. You're up to one the next night gary sanchez. Almost it's a grand slam against craig. Kimbrel that's closer than you remember. Especially because once again the lost that game like nineteen one or whatever they lost it but if severino is severino instead of some poor facsimile. Maybe it's different. Shows that for twenty nine thousand nine hundred hurt. He's just sort of on the shelf. You rarely see him. it's a shoulder. it's constant setback. Finally comes back to the very end of the year throws three starts. All of the starts or more like relief appearances. They're quite short gets to the postseason doesn't have his best stuff beats. "There are other guys that you want to be part of your core moving forward or if you do have been a huge part of the past bryant rizzo havi willing to trade has signed through twenty twenty two as well so They're certainly like a lot of questions with that. And dealing away guys like again. Rizzo havi your bryant who are like faces of the franchise who helped break that. That world series drought. There's a lot of implications that come with that beyond just a prospect capital beyond what how it affects the roster and everything else it. It affects the fan base and You know just moving forward affects the future in the potential pass that jed heuer's front office has for this team. So so yeah this kind of garage sale is maybe the most likely option here too because it. It's it's gonna take a lot for the cubs to get back into the race. It's certainly possible. But also at the same time i don't know i don't know what you're necessarily getting for all of these guys to. I don't know that answer right now on july as i don't think knows that answer right. Now he's had cursory initial discussions with other teams sure but teams competing against each other in desperation at the deadline is what brings about like you said what the yankees got in return for a roll. This chapman for drew miller like you know the cubs giving up gleyber torres and then the following year giving up eli jimenez dylan sees for jose. Cantata there's a bit of desperation that leads there's competition there's the fact that you get up to the deadline and jed said this a bunch. He said over the winter like a deadline is wet creates action. What's what makes things happen. So i think either way. We don't know the answers to all of these things are what the cubs could get in return until about that because their cubs are jumping the mark. Either way right now. that's what. I can't see them trading away any of those big pieces right now but i also certainly don't see them adding anything or buying anything and i think they would wait until july twenty ninth thirtieth until they make a lot of those decisions in see what they're able to get back and you know all of this that we're talking about two other team plays in the field everything else that all might change if there are some teams out there if the padres really wanna world series if the mets do if if the white sox really doer they come calling crosstown rivals. If they're willing to give up this huge hall for a bryant for kimbrel. Four angel cheif who should actually fetch a decent on his reliable left handed. Reliever like if there's a huge amount there. Then it'd be difficult for jed to say no especially if his team is kind of toeing the line in contention or not. So yeah i. It's it's tough. It's fun to talk about right now and I think the cubs can make things interesting. And that's really what. I'm going to be looking for over the next few weeks. I think this is going to be an awesome few weeks because it has so many implications for the future of the franchise. Not just the future of this year. So i i'm pretty pumped to see how the next couple of weeks play out but there are some questions that come into that as well and i think the health of some of these guys play a factor plays a role here to chris..

Need to do to get back into the race here I know the odds are stacked against them here but to be honest like call me crazy you tell me. I'm drinking the kool-aid wherever you want. I actually believe it could be. It could happen for all those reasons that we said. I think it is possible. I don't know exactly how likely it is. But i think the next few days for sure and obviously the next couple of weeks will will tell what the cubs do at the deadline if they go the other way if they aren't able to stack wins and things don't go their way as we mentioned before to. What do you see happening here in terms of the sell off. Do you think it's this big kind of fire sale. Where a lot of these guys have almost half the roster are said to be a free agent at the end of the season so they could sell off a ton of different pieces and get a lot in return potentially in terms of prospect capital or they could have kind of a mini sell. Offer a half selloff where they they told that middle ground where craig kimbrel who figures to be the most coveted piece at the deadline. As of right now he could sell him off. Or maybe at one or two other guys here and get a pretty decent prospect hall in return but hang on some of the other guys get the comp picks for big free agents like you know Bryant rizzo havi if they happen to leave or obviously still spend time talking with them and try to work out a contract extension for either the rest of this year or early in october november. There how you see playing out india. What direction do you think the cubs would go. Let's say if they are not able to stack wins. Yeah i think it'll be. I'm just not sure How important is it to have amazing closer if you're not good enough to get the game to him where he can close it out, is that Is that is that the problem? Is that a problem at all? It's a contradiction. You're right. Because the country do you need to be winning to use your closer to the fullest extent. So if you're not winning, why have Craig crimp? Craig? Kimbrel? The first preseason game August 14th versus the Dolphins about that. That's crazy. I'll be here before you know it. And when I heard you Through the headline. Uh, the celebration is on in Tampa, referring to the Stanley Cup. I thought You were going to say the celebration is on at Wrigley Field because the Cubs finally one Yeah, that could have been it. I and I knew they were going to win last night because they were facing a good pitcher. And the Cubs only lose when they face a A rookie pitcher who's got a 7.90 A. You know, they do well against the good ones, and, um Also, um I just had the feeling that they break it last night. I really did. And I was right that I think it may be more a case that they never do. Can't lose them all. You can't lose them all. They were definitely do. Holy cow. The White Sox are off today, right? White Sox are off. They started series tomorrow in Baltimore, and then they all star break. Uh, next week. This is the last weekend of games, right? Yeah, right. I mean, before the break before the break. Yes. And then we get the home run Derby Monday, and then they all start game Tuesday. Coors Field. And let's see what else can we look forward to? Well, what's going to happen by the trade deadline? That's that's the big question, and it looks like the Cubs are going to be selling. It's certainly think so at this point. I don't. I don't see any great change, in course based on last night's win, so hey, what if they put together a streak? Well, you know, that could always happen. Bob. Give Jed Hoyer or something to think about. Yeah. Uh, I'm reading about, uh, Craig Kimbrel being the most likely guy to be sold really? Well, he's going to be the most in demand. I think as far as other Teams and as far as contending teams and look, he's been a great story this year. Unfortunately for team that It has struggled mightily lately, but, uh, you know, he was a guy. I think a lot of people that kind of given up on reality first came to the Cubs. He couldn't get anybody else. He turned it around, Didn't he around? Unfortunately, lately, so guard has been pitching more than Kimbrel. "The taylor was ravaged by a bear today. I think he's looking for advice. And i'm wondering if you have some to offer. I was taught in mind you. This was at summer camp. I was taught that if a bear is chasing you then you run downhill but what. I've learned from a cursory google search to make sure that. I don't sound like an idiot talking about wildlife. Is that bears. In fact do run downhill and run downhill just as fast as they do uphill so i have no advice for taylor other than stay in your house. You soft suburban man and stay away from the bear because it will mall you. Yeah i gotta say. Just as i heard that about the bears running downhill. I'm like now that doesn't sound like any bear that i've ever known like you know i thought you were going to go with the line to people are seeing. What's what's the line about two people together and said you know you don't try to run a bear. No i'm just gonna run you. Yes that is that is totally fair. And here's the thing could could tailor outrun each of us. I don't know the answer to that. Got here taylor's younger than both of us I feel like. I'm i feel like i'm going to be taylor foot race that i think you might think you might be put raised especially in my slippers that i went out there and i m snow shelbyville jeff. So i was armed. At least i don't know if you notices but as we're having this conversation taylor all of a sudden like we're on zoom call. Y'all of sudden he. He didn't put his image up anymore. He down like he does not like this conversation now. Now i think I think in fact he regrets bringing up the bear incident to begin in. Should've gone on with this. Merry day knowing that bouin him had a little Meeting in the woods speaking of bears didn't make that's a good of professional transition. Buster only like a farm so what kogyo cubs coming into the year. I think you would agree with me. The expectation was that they were definitely going to be sell sell sell before the trade deadline and they went crazy offensively for about six weeks. They moved into first place nationally central. Now the brewers have caught and pass them What's your sense about what the cubs are going to do. Because i think it's a really complicated situation where you might have two different types of answers. Play out it's interesting. I went on the radio in chicago last week and when they asked me about this i said the the ship has sailed on them selling and he you know i. It's it's not just the fact that they've lost game since then. That had me reconsider But jesse rogers pointed out something very interesting to me. Let me tell you what. The milwaukee brewers schedule looks like for the rest of june at cincinnati vs pirates vs cincinnati at colorado at arizona vs colorado and then a three game set against the cubs to round up the month. I don't know that. The brewers buster have the offense to run away with the division. But when i said that the the cubs are going to be likely to be in bhai mode than in sell mode. It was based as much on this idea that milwaukee is a flawed club as it is that the cubs are going to continue on some kind of run here. And that's what i wonder. I think you're alluding to the notion that if the cubs sayer three or four games out and still above five hundred is we get into july can team. That's in that position in that city with those expectations reasonably sell or are we looking at white flag to point out. We've been through this in the city of chicago before we know what it's like quarter century later. Were still talking about it. So you know you're right for jed hoyer it's an incredibly difficult position to be in and yet wouldn't you rather be in a position where you're good and have to make that choice rather than being a position where you're bad you fans who are angry. Wrigley field is the miserable place to be I i'd always rather win than the alternatives. Yep you're exactly right. I am going to be curious to see if they take an approach that we've seen from small market teams. Oakland has done this repeatedly in the past where they buy and sell where you have players that you decide you know what we can't win without that guy but we could flip that guy and they have so many potential free agents impending free agents that they have a lot of choices for example. And i think. I mentioned this last friday or maybe it was to tim yesterday. You're not trading kris bryant if they're contending you know he's an mvp candidate bought given the depths in their bullpens. Maybe yeah you might trade. Craig kimbrel Here here's the thing. If you're contending reasonably going back for craig kimbrel i mean we you know. We look at the trade deadline two months out and always seemed to forget that the return on almost every player out. There is not all that great. And that's even in a market where you know. There's limited supply. I just don't know that. What the cubs are going to get back for craig. Kimbrel is worth giving him up with his good as he is. Been at this point. And you're right. The buying and selling tampa bay does it every single year. You saw it a couple of years ago when they when they went out and got nick anderson During his rookie season from miami when he was absolutely lights out for them down the stretch but they they always make the trades. Where if they feel like there's value their that their record is immaterial really. I don't know that the same standard is in place in chicago. It just feels like if the cubs are going to go for it than they should actually go forward but the problem buster. You know we lose this story that's on. Espn dot com now. Where are they realistically in the national league. They're not as good as la. They're not as good as san diego and you can make arguments and pretty compelling ones that they're not as good as san francisco new york atlanta and milwaukee. So are we talking about them as the seventh best team in the national league and if they do make the playoffs are they really the type of team that can put together a run to make holding onto these guys worthwhile. It's a great question And maybe the question you're asking especially since the cubs since they won the world series in two thousand sixteen winning the world series becomes the standard. And maybe the question needs to be. Do we feel like we legitimately have a chance to win the world series. Do you believe this team does that with that. Group of starting pitchers don't throw particularly hard and keep in mind too and you know this. One of the standards used around baseball for a mistakes made the trade deadline in recent years with the giants before madison. Bumgarner was a free edge where they were kind of hanging in there but nobody really thought that they were even close to what the dodgers were but they decided to hang on keep the band together and they immediately collapsed after the trade deadline after keeping bumgarner and they probably didn't get the type of value that They would otherwise and if the cubs internally fascinating to hear their conversation. Because i gotta believe you gave him truth serum they would say you know what. We're not really serious. Candidates read win win the world series. And they would if they don't trade the guys they have. Now they would squander so much collective value. I hear you about kimbro specifically but they have a lot of trade value on this roster at the moment Let me let me make the counterpoint. There though and i think in this era where tanking has become another thing there is value and and it's difficult to quantify this value right. It's difficult to say what it is exactly. But i think that not trading madison bumgarner that year. Not selling that year.

"It's going to be an issue, you know they've played Anywhere from 5 to 8 games, fewer than other teams and their divisions, and it's some point that's going to take a toll. I think you know, the one saving grace for the moment to have this postponement today is that they're dealing with so many injuries right now, and they're bound to have a better group of players to choose from when they when they make up these doubleheaders. I want to ask you about those injuries, but I feel like every time I go to Twitter, it's updating on some sort of new news. Whether it's Pete Alonso, Taiwan Walker, Noah Syndergaard JD Davis, What's the latest with this rash of injuries The Mets are dealing with There's actually some good news today when we talked to Louise RoHaas before we got news. The postponement tonight, he told us Pete Alonso was going to be activated and being the Mets lineup tonight. And so that means, of course, is that when they play the Diamondbacks on Monday, he's going to play against them. And incredibly incredibly, it is less than two weeks ago that Kevin Pilar Was hit in the face by a fastball, multiple nasal fractures. You guys saw it. How? How, you know the black eyes and how beaten up he was. He's going to play in the next two days. He has been working out. You know, Initially they had thought that, you know, maybe this is going to be a monthlong type injury. But Pilar showing up every day saying I feel fine. I'm ready to go. Can I be in the lineup? I feel fine now. Doctors have recommended that he play with some sort of a face mask and what Louise told us Woz that he's not comfortable hitting with the face mask, but he probably will wear that on defense. But it really is amazing that he's going to be back on the field as quickly as he has given the devastating injury we saw. Buster. I'm not sure about the use of foreign substances in the broadcast booth. But boy, there's been a lot of conversation about it on the field. Over the course of the last week, Mike Schiltz said. It's baseball's dirty little secret. Where do you expect the commissioner's office to take this? I think that they're basically going to do what they have been in that is to bury their head in the sand for the rest of this year. Not really deal with it. You know, I thought his classic that this past week Joe West, the cowboy, you know that's his nickname. He stepped out. He decided he was going to be one man, sheriff. He went out and, you know, confiscate that happens. You guy a goes to the Cardinals. Hey, talk to Craig Kimbrel about cleaning up his cap, but it doesn't look like there's anything else is necessarily going to be organized in the immediate future, which is kind of crazy to me because this conversation is exploding. Among staffers and among players. I heard a story, for example, recently that we're one team is facing another team. The hitters in the dugout, knew that the pitcher on the mound Had something in his glove was going to it constantly. The super sticky substance that you know some pictures they're using now, and they were screaming at him and letting him know. Stop cheating. And in the second inning after they did that he apparently stopped and they got a game winning head. I had someone tell me that the substance now that picture use is so effective. It's some pictures are actually afraid of putting it on their forearms on their skin because they feel like it'll damage it. I don't understand why baseball just doesn't do what hockey does it just check? You know? Check the equipment is the pictures go to the Mt. Want relief pitchers called in the game, do it then. But from what I understand, they're just going to continue is a Z What we've seen the last 15 years. And that is that gentleman's agreement between managers not to check pictures. Busters. We keep reading these details from a very disturbing case involving Braves outfielder Marcel Ozuna. There's something different about this case with domestic violence. Compared to other ones that Major league Baseball has dealt with What's different now and what's going to happen going forward for Arizona. Yeah..

Why GL Guy Diego's was singled out here when Craig Kimbrel is a huge blotch on his hat when Garrett Cole had one over the weekend against the White Sox. I don't know why guy egos. I don't know why yesterday and neither does the league would just couldn't be. Could it be that the league find I don't have Look, mother's talk about this there. There are stories out there. I know you're aware of this. They're collecting these balls and they'll be wants to get out in front of this. They don't want an astro situation again, where they feel like they lagged behind or steroid era. They want all the data that could possibly get. Could it be All the things you just mentioned. Somebody finally said, Hey, wake up. We've been telling you. We have to collect this stuff. When you see it grab it Could I mean could it be a simple is that like Monday morning and edict went out to the Umpires Association and said, Collect anything. You see what they foreign substance on it. No, I don't. I haven't heard that. Okay. Not heard that So Then why was he singled out? That is an interesting question. Then nobody knows the answer. And I've asked people within the league member wasn't just Joe West to second base umpire Damba Lino mentioned it to Joe West and You know, Once you start down that road, I guess you can't ignore it, I suppose, because that's what's been going on for years. Now they've just ignored it. They've ignored Craig, Craig, Kimbrel Cap and Garrett Cole's captive just looked the other way. But they did not ignore it yesterday. We just don't know why. And Shilts ran. I mean, I thought that was a great ran for a lot of reasons. He understood that he could be throwing his own pictures under the bus. But in this moment he had to say what he had to say, and you heard what he said. This is something they've been trying to deal with behind the scenes and doing all that collecting of evidence behind the scenes. And then I think there were gonna be some major changes going into next year and the new C B A. Ah lot of things that are happening in baseball are all going to culminate in a new C B A All these experiences. Experiments in the miners are going to incorporate like it's all going to come to a head this November, December January whenever they come up with a new C B, A and pine tar and sunscreen and all that stuff on the hat are gonna be One of those things, so I think it was going to be addressed after the season. But obviously it got addressed yesterday. And now the next question is, is cook Red Kimbrel's hat going to be investigated next time he takes the field and everybody else because many many pictures have substances on the brim of their hats. So it's very strange. The timing of this is very strange. Maybe the league just hates the Cardinals Could be all right, Jesse. So what did Rick Hahn.

"Is broken. 18. This is 21. You've done very little to fix it. So see Theo's model as he watched him with the Red Sox. Living with the Cubs here is that he knows when to pull the trigger sooner than later. Right. Usually, his whole thing was, if you're over, 30, you know, maybe we get a younger asset for that. He tried to Garciaparra, who was a legend. Is he dead? In New England, But he knew window pull the trigger. He knew when to do that. And with the Cubs, it just seemed like he settled in there with that World Series championship, And that wasn't that wasn't great. One of my biggest criticisms is not growing the farm system and not knowing when to pull the trigger and say We won the World Series. We fall short, we fall short. Okay, Now we need to change here and 18 maybe a 1920 19 when you still had, you know, multiple years of control left? Yeah. Now, maybe had the pandemic not hit that they were going to do something. He has maintained they were having high level discussions. Nolan are Renato and trading Chris Brian, Move it breaking it up, and then the pandemic it Yeah. Pre pandemic something should have happened with the cup. Agreed. 100%. So, here we are, my friend. We're through 40 games 20 and 20. What do you know about your ball club? Exactly what I thought they are, And then if they continue to play like this They will trade Craig Kimbrel, I think will be the first to go because he's a real quality arm. You'll get something back. And you'll start your rebuild. Now Who's your closer? Alec Mills, Rex brothers. Rex Brothers. Yes, that's why Rex brothers is a good name. Sure. I don't know who they're going to run out there. Do they bring someone up from the farm system? They bring Breslin Marquez up. So we're gonna let you close because I think they wanted to be a starter. Probably not. I'm going to keep my eyes on the marquee network because they're showing Iowa games now, so I'll let you know in a few weeks, right? Is there, filly? They're filling time on that network. They want Justin Steel to become a starting pitcher. But he throws 98. Maybe you let him close this. I don't know what they do, but I think This is truly what this team is. And usually 40 games tells you what you are. Yeah. You have average ball here on average team. So move who you gotta move Sino. You've gotta sign know what your needs are going into the offseason and then look at the White Sox and go out. They may have a ton injuries. They're finding ways whether we bludgeon you whether we score on a wild pitch. Somehow, some way they're finding away every night to find a way to win by the way and use record bass. And you know what you said. You said that if you're the Cubs don't wait until July. Like if you know what you are, By the time we get to Memorial that you said, let's start making trades. Now, if if judge phone rings today, right now he's listening to the show, which he does. And he's like I got to take this. Hello? Yeah, this is Brian Cashman. Hey, man. Chapman's Got this or this guy's Got that make me a deal. I've got players in the system. Make me a deal. I need Kimbrel. I need Bryant. I need Whoever it is Done. Let's go because this is not the foundation of a champion. It's not Have do it now, before you get a full ballpark booing you. Do it now, before you have other teams make that decision that Yeah, we're not good enough either. So wait a minute. Don't make the trade with the Cubs. I'll give you This guy? Yeah, I'm just like you want to do it the way it's happening now, because you know, Cup fans will will not tolerate this. They're not going to tolerate you taking apart the ball club in a major market, but I would say that if you're gonna make a move Do it now, But I think they will tolerate it least I'll speak from my seat is a Cubs fan, Theo that if jet announced today hey, man, We just don't think it's a good enough team. We got a great offer from whatever team it was. We made this move. We got young players and it might hurt for a little bit, But this is the right path. Value. They already did it once you're not doing the job, right, If you're not a seller at this point in time, you kind of know what this is. It's been what it's been for The last few years is too bad that comes or not contenders. But it's just That is just too infrequent for this ball club to be able to hit. Give you that spark that you need. You got a little bit of it in the month of May cap. It is just It's just not enough. You're too close the pirate to say you're going to contend. I know it's early, but still we've seen this movie before. Coming up with this is do you look at that team and go? That might be a world seriously. No shot, no shot, and that's what you're in it for. That's what you're in it for. The Sox pounded pounded the Twins last night and the twin broadcasters None too pleased. That's next. "This out is what it was in his Russian right and not allowing them to race. In fact that this was this Russian. The bill could go before the full House of Representatives as early as next week. WGN sports Now here's Joe brand a scary afternoon for the White Sox, But they did end the evening. Okay in Game one of a double header against Kansas City Socks. First baseman Jose A. Bre, You collided with Hunter does you're on an infield pop up. Bre. You ends up just being day today with some bruises and cuts. He wanted to play in Game two, huh? Tony LaRussa and the White Sox wouldn't let him. He's such a stallion that everybody knows. He's one of our leaders. So everybody's concerned about personally professionally and like I said, Right now, there's a sense of relief on the Sox didn't need him or Tim Anderson. For that matter. In the second game, they won the night cap of the doubleheader split. Andrew von going deep. And now the 23 14 socks have baseball's best record. They continue hosting Kansas City Tonight comes there hoping to get back on track after a four to win in Detroit last night. Kris Bryant's 10th home run of the year. "Most of them won't be available till July. I would assume maybe one of the Mets backups would be available now, though, I do think Jed would pick up the phone to anybody right now. You don't normally get those calls in May. But obviously recounts going to be making some phone calls. There's no doubt my mind about that. And and by the way, let's stop this Sox Cubs trade talk That is the equivalent of you being too lazy to get off your block and find other women to date. You're just going across the street. You're going across the street just date the woman because all I saw her in her flower bed. I don't want to date her. You get to live and see something second, they gotta hope they got a M. V P candidate type player who's wanted before. Who, by their own admission, They're probably not going to re sign and you lost 80 home runs. It's a perfect fit for you guys. We already fleeced you once. You wouldn't happen again. No, probably you probably won't want to deal with the socks again, Do you? It was not a good trades cubs you want to do with that again? That was not so bad. Thanks then. No, thank you. Now to the Cubs were talking about the Cubs. I'll tell you what, Jesse. Look, It might be a long year for the Cubs, but they can put this in the yearbook as something positive. I had no idea that comes would have this gun offense. First of all in Game one against Kershaw and the way they came back from behind and Game two. This is focused on Kershaw for a second. As I watched the game, I'm thinking he's gonna come back for the second inning, right, Shutting him down after 44 runs surrendered. How much that surprising from Robert's a little bit definitely a little bit there. Little short, I'm pitching, so maybe they wanted to sort of bring it back on short rest, and what inning is no big deal. Right? So I think he's thinking about his next start, or next few starts. Maybe it was the cool cooler weather. It's not like the Dodgers have played in a lot of that. But look, they took it to him. No doubt he's spiking balls, and they took advantage of when he was in the strike zone. And they got to power a little bit. I mean, Hayward homered off him, and eventually they win. That was a great night. Great day and night. No doubt about it, And we don't know where this cub season's gonna go. Probably to the seller's market is we've been talking, but you got to enjoy these kind of moments just tweeted out. It's the eighth time. Team is swept a Napo Nin, who has started to Cy Young winners in the double header, just the eighth time in history, so that's pretty cool. So look, I think there's some really good things happening with the cuts. Keegan Thompson started that game. Justin still finished it right late those air to cut draft picks. We we have lamented the fact they have not had Pitchers drafted and make it to the majors. Well, there's two of them that have done it right. We know Nico Horner's A good story so far. Advert House lays an emerging picture Craig Kimbrel granted blue to say, but You know that's gonna happen and give a long fly ball that just ended up in the basket. There's some good story lines if you're not worried about the standings, But if you are worried about the standings than a doubleheader doubleheader sweep of the Dodgers is pretty good. The interesting thing is, I watched this Cubs like yesterday was awesome. A few head Decided in the morning. I'm gonna bet the cubs to sweep the double header. People would've thought you're out of your freaking mind. And you got a Complete game performance out of Kyle Hendricks. And you mentioned Keegan Thompson and then Kimbrel comes in and gives up the home run and Javi answers. The Ballon ties the game back up, and then David Brody, Danny's guy comes through to win the ball game like That was the most unlikely way That game went down both both games that I could have possibly imagined. Yeah, I agree. And but think about this offense now on Jay Hood, I think you know cap was on vacation. I mentioned to you this last week about 10 week. 10 days two weeks ago, Basically when Jack Peterson went down It forced David Ross to diversify that line of you're not just seeing one through eight half of the top body it number eight and all these swings and misses in between. It is diversified. It's crazy. That sounds they've been better when so guard's been in there. When Marie's Nick, your guy has been in there, obviously, one Horner's been in there. I don't like that Opening day lineup where you have happened, voting and all that swing and miss These backups have helped diversify. Now you're not gonna win a bunch of games without backups, but is given the opponent a different look at the plate. I can't stress that enough. It is a different looking offense because he has different players in there almost on a nightly basis, and it's it's causing some havoc for the opponent opposing pitcher. Even if they're not scoring a lot of runs. They're getting a look at the contact they they're making. That's creating some of these moments for them. It's it's different than it was early in the season. I think that's important to know. Captain. Do you think that the garret suspension of seven games with the Cubs? It's It is too strong. No, just write down. It was just right. I was actually surprised. I didn't think I'm sure he'll appeal and I'll get knocked down to five. But it's a reliever that has more teeth and one start. What do you think? Jesse? I think it's the right move in and a lot of people read fans obviously think they overreacted, but you have to understand what they're trying to do. They want the celebrations. They want the emotion. They want the enthusiasm. But once you cross that line to taunting, and that's exactly what that was, they're going to shut it down. So in other words, if you want the backflips, did you better not cross that line when you're staring into the other dugout? Purposely to send a message. Celebrate what you want, do whatever you want towards your own dugout. But once you start staring down the other team, the other apartment, the guy that you just struck out, For God's sakes, Merisel feels bad enough. He struck out You don't need to start pounding your chest and walking towards them right? You could pound your chest that your dog out that's fine. Once you're staring out the opponent, it's the right move. So I like the fact that they were that that harsh seven games for reliever like you said, is a lot cap. Yeah, and as we let you go, I like if a pitcher like one bearing gear for the twins back in the day would ring guys up? That's fine. Bat. Flip me if I get you. I'm gonna ask Rizzo about it. Hey, man, you know bad flip me if you hit me hit the ball out. But just understand. I'm going to ring you up. I'm all let you know about it. You're real quick. You see Trevor Bauer Last night He showed emotion, but it was walking towards this dug up every time he had a big strikeout. He did it towards his dugout. Totally fine. You just can't do it towards the opponent. Jesse. Have a great day, man. You two guys take care of appreciate you, Jesse Rogers, fueled by the pride stores, not.
