Charlie Takes Us Back to February 2020...
"Back in February of 2020, just about three years ago. Three years ago, boy, I remember where I was and Andrew and I were reminiscing. On a moment in time, I could write a essay, if not a short book on what could be called the last supper of Mar-a-Lago. You could actually dig up the exact date. I do remember it was late February and early March. We are on tour for my book, the maga doctrine, New York Times Best Seller, almost New York Times number one. We got so close. Amazon number one bestseller. We were traveling the country, having a great time. We were doing events all across Florida. We were doing events at Liberty University. And the news of COVID started to bubble up more and more and more. We didn't really know what to make of it. The hypochondriacs in our life were really freaking out and people were saying, oh, it's nothing is just a coal is just a flu we've been through this before. And we were concluding our book tour at Mar-a-Lago. What better place to conclude a book tour on the maga doctrine than at Mar-a-Lago? And when we get there, it was as if it was a Great Gatsby party. The energy was off the charts and there was 5 or 6 different high stakes things happening simultaneously. When we came into Mar-a-Lago, president Trump was literally meeting with jair Bolsonaro talking about big trade deals and negotiating partnerships, Mike Pence was there meeting with some people. Jared Kushner and Ivanka are meeting with some people. Tucker Carlson was there just to go meet with Donald Trump to warn him about COVID. Kimberly Guilfoyle's birthday party was happening. And then we were there. It was, it was a circus, but in a good way. And the energy was off the charts the attitude. That night in late February, 2020 was that Trump could not lose. There was nothing that could happen. The economy was roaring, morale was up. We were going to run up against this Biden guy. It was a joke. There was an aura of invincibility. The election was 8 or 9 months out. There was almost an attitude of what are they going to throw at the bulletproof Teflon Trump now? And yet there was that little whisper of what's this virus? What's this, what's this thing? And it was very interesting when Pence left the evening early and he didn't seem too happy. Pence left and remember Pence was tasked with looking into the virus and was actually in charge of the virus response and he kind of left and you could read something into it, but did he know something about it? Maybe maybe not. All while this was happening. Donald Trump and his administration did not know. That Anthony Fauci was working in the shadows to cover up the origins of this virus.

"News. What is your response to when you read that were you like, are you kidding me? I got this story sent to me about like 57 times last night, and all the reporters reaching out to me for comment, but I'm giving it to you, Charlie, okay? This is absurd. You know me a long time. Have you ever seen me to be someone that has led by others like in some cult mentality that I would like, oh, I fell prey to the culture at box? No, I have been a proud, okay? Republican and conservative registering as a Republican, 18 years of age, attending UC Davis, which has gone a little crazy and a member of the young Republicans party there, okay? And they matched me up with a woman that rivals me for being about as conservative and to the right as I am. You have a nose this. I didn't change. He did. He used to be so proud to fight for small businesses for entrepreneurs for those hardworking men and women. And he's fallen prey to the left, the radical left that is pushing him so far to the left that it's unrecognizable. This is somebody who was a small business owner who worked very hard to try to bring those jobs and energy to San Francisco and not penalize people with small businesses. Now, as governor of California, he is destroying them. There has to be some accountability there. I know what his capacity is. I know what his capability is. So he has to take ownership for his policies that are literally people are fleeing that state every single day I meet people that are moving to Florida and Texas and other states that share our values where they can be entrepreneurs where single mothers to middle class hardworking Americans are respected. You have seen the policy of the on highlight, okay? In California, it does not work. Look what's happened. You can't even recognize San Francisco. I was so proud to be a prosecutor there and head of the trial division for career criminal homicide. All the above. You undefeated. Undefeated. In San Francisco, that's saying something. But now look at it. It's become a city that's unrecognizable. My father used to say to me, Kimberly, you were so lucky you were born in San Francisco. I was born in Kaiser hospital there, God blessed. My mother must say this, who came from aguadilla, my father from Ennis and county Clare Ireland. And I was given the opportunities of a lifetime, and I loved my city and I fought for it as a prosecutor and I fought for as a First Lady of San Francisco, not a first partner, a First Lady, okay? Versus his wife who calls herself the first partner. So really quick, I got to ask you, you know, Kimberly, just looking at Gavin Newsom, he seems to be more ambitious than Lucifer. Do you think he's going to run for president? It feels like you really think. Do I think I know he's going to run for president. He's always wanted to be president of the United States. You know, he worked obviously his way up from city council, board of supervisors, multiple races, and then to governor of California. You know, this is something that he wants very badly, and I'll tell you something. I think you are going to see Gavin Newsom versus Donald J Trump running against each other for president, father in law and excess I'm going to put you in charge of our oppo research team. For Trump 2024, if it's Trump, the news. You're as smart as I know you are. Yeah. You know, he works, though. I mean, all kidding aside, he'll raise a ton of money. He will work, he'll get on the campaign trail. I think that he is, he's very likely to be the nominee in more ways than one. KJ. Absolutely right. Rich Baris Talks Effective Presidential Primary Messaging
"Rich, I don't think messaging is nearly as important as it used to be. But it certainly is still an element of elections. Let's talk macro. Let's not get too into the approval rating and all that. All that stuff comes and goes. But what do you see as leading indicators or trends, things that are candidates should become fluent in things that you see that can build consensus with swing voters? What are one or two issues that even might be a little heterodox that you think, hey, we got a zero in on this and this could help us win on the margins in 2024. Yeah, I think the economic message is kind of one Charlie, and it just doesn't matter. It's a matter of whether you get those voters. It's a matter of whether you get those voters to the polls or not. I think we're in an area where there are new culture war issues that unfortunately Republicans did not grab onto and run with. Look at how popular governor Glen youngkin is. When we pull around the country nationally and we ask about some of these issues that youngkin really championed, then ran with, you know, there are no brainers to people. And we sat there kind of silent on the abortion issue and we let them or we either Republican Party candidates and let them play offense on that issue when they left the transgender and the kids issues off the table. But it's more than that. It's just general feeling that their culture and way of life is being attacked and there's nobody there to defend them. And there's no line being drawn saying this is where public parties stand on these issues. Everywhere that we do see those lines drawn Democrats lose.

"So, so rich, I just want to comment a couple of things generally packed audience good optics seems enthusiastic, Ralph Norman, who is from the house freedom caucus, great man. I saw this last weekend surprisingly endorsed to read out of the gate. They must have a really long-lasting friendship. That's something I certainly respect and appreciate. I've said this and I got some of the harshest text messages. That's not true. But I got some, I got some real zingers from people. When I said, don't underestimate Nikki Haley, she's going to raise a bunch of money. She has a good story. She was an above average conservative governor. She presents well on television. I think she's going to be a strong candidate. I say this as someone who's an enthusiastic supporter of Donald Trump. Do you agree with that rich? Do you think that she might have some appeal or do you think she's politically dead on arrival? You know, we'll have to see how the rest of the field shapes out because there will be Charlie an anti Trump vote that they're going to be trying to coalesce behind somebody and I can see them doing that. By Nikki Haley, she will raise money. Ladies and gentlemen, this woman knows a lot of people. These are people that call me and say, should I even get money to this person? Can they win? She will raise money. You know what I'm thinking though, Charlie, I'm thinking of the State of the Union speech, Joe Biden just gave. Where somebody like Nikki Haley, if she was to be a real contender or even blur the image of a modern Republican in the minds of persuadable voters, it could be dangerous to Republicans. And I say that because Joe Biden made the remark, which was booed, you know, that basically said there are Republicans out there who want to cut social security and want to cut Medicare. If Nikki Haley's wing of the party had won in 2016, what Joe Biden said would have been true. And then you can kiss Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and maybe even Ohio, goodbye. This is why Donald Trump can turn those states in Ohio plus 8s and Iowa plus 8s and razor thin margins in Michigan. And he's still the barely lost it in 2020, even when he lost it. With all the nonsense and all the shenanigans and the Dropbox and the social media interference and all that. So rich, you know, let me ask you a question here. So today there's some breaking news if we can get this tape here. I think it'd be really helpful. Front page of citizen free press. Wall Street Journal. Donald Trump changes tune on mail in voting ballot collection. He released a video where he says now we need to embrace ballot harvesting and that we need to build the machine. We have a one liner here on this program. 2024 will be one or will be lost based on whether we build a machine or do not build a machine for us to communicate in 2024. The horse race is fun, it's dramatic. By the way, open invite for anybody running for the presidency, you are welcome on the show anytime. I will treat you with respect and dignity, obviously I'm going to be wearing my Trump Jersey, but you're going to have to learn to talk to people that are Trump voters if you want to win the nomination in this primary. As critical as building the machine, your thoughts rich. Yeah, I was happy to hear the president on that. I was. And I've heard I've been obviously, I watch your show too. I see where you guys went with this. This is it. This is it. They were able to close. They meaning the Democrats, they were able to close so called advantage in what we refer to as the efficiency of your vote, right? And Republicans especially in midterms are supposed to have this wide advantage on voting efficiency by congressional district. They were able to do that because of vote harvesting. And if you want to win, you have to play the game. They spent money. We now that we've had all this time to pour in and where Democrats spent their money and they didn't spend it in a game of persuasion, Charlie. This was a race. This was a harvest race. In a and to be honest, what we see from Republicans, they didn't even know they were in such a race. We didn't play the game at all. In fact, many of the people said, oh, just I'll go vote on election day. We saw in Arizona. It's not the way you win. Look, in Arizona, you can't bow harvest Democrats in any way, because they're a bunch of criminals. I'm not embracing, I'm not saying we should embrace that, but you can ballot chase. So that's how it chasing is perfectly legal. What is ballot chasing? Ballot chasing is here's 1200 voters in these three precincts in mesa? And there are low propensity Republican voters and we've talked to them and they're likely to vote for should be governor Kerry Lake or Donald Trump. And we're going to harass them and we're going to harass them being a fun, colorful term. We're going to call them, we're going to communicate with them until we have evidence that they have submitted their ballot. Do they need a ride to an in person early voting center? That is legal. You're allowed to provide transportation. You know, do you keep on knocking on their door and they have questions about who to vote for. You're a lot of provide information. That's all legal in Arizona, right? And Republicans did none of this. None of it. You had one side chasing ballots, and the other side saying, well, I hope everyone shows up on election day. Let's see how it works. We will never get back into political power again in our country. If we do not embrace building a robust, sophisticated, precise machine ready for victory, period, end of story..

Rich Baris and Charlie Assess the 2024 Primary Landscape
"Might run for president. If Joe Biden does it, let's play cut 35. Couldn't be a more exciting time for transportation. It's had a challenges. Right. I mean, if you look at what the American transportation systems have faced in the last two or three years, partly because of the pandemic, we've faced issues from container shipping to airline cancellations. Now we got balloons. That's right. But also the best time ever to be working transportation because of these resources. So how should we think about the 2024 race? There's a lot of interest in the horse race desantis, Pompeo, what is the strength of Donald Trump right now in the Republican primary? You know, I mean, this is a long way in politics. It's a long way away, Charlie, but, you know, some of the private stuff we've done and some of the other polling that we've seen people we know and trust do. He the former president did lose some support over a couple of 6 weeks, 8 weeks ago, and it does seem to have rebounded somewhat, but as we put more names onto this, we'll have to see how it takes shape. But the bottom line is, Charlie, a Republican primary, will be dominated by non working class voters and until other candidates break through. That demographic, he's going to be tough to beat. He said that it will be dominated by non working class voters. Oh, excuse me, non college working class. Okay, thank you. Thank you. Yeah, the muscular class. So you're saying that muscular class white upper middle class Christians. And I don't say any of this negatively. It's just a fact. They disproportionately vote in Republican primaries. Is that correct? That's correct. And

The 2024 Horse Race
"Landscape is developing. And it's going to be a very long, tiring primary. A year from now, we're going to be right in the middle of it. And so we have Nikki Haley, who is officially announced him Scott, who looks like he's going to run Mike Pence, who's probably going to write, run Mike Pompeo, who's probably going to run. Whispers are that friend of the show, Vivek Rama Swami. Might run for president. And then, of course, Donald Trump is running. I think all of this helps Trump. All of this strengthens Trump's case. For 2024, Donald Trump running for the presidency, standing against neoliberalism, open borders, silly trade deals, and interventionist foreign wars is how he will differentiate himself amongst many other things, obviously. The fact that he was actually president, he got a lot done. These people say they're running for president. Nikki Haley says she's running for president Tim Scott says he is running for president, but in reality they are running against Donald Trump. That is the reality, but they're not going to say it. They're not going to try to insult Trump voters, but they are going to be running against Donald Trump. And I actually think that helps Trump. I think Trump will be able to navigate that successfully. The more kind of targets the better and they're going to start attacking each other because they're going to try to fill up the different lanes. Now whether or not Ted Cruz is going to run for president, that will be interesting if Marco Rubio run for president that will be interesting. We'll Glenn youngkin run for president. Will Greg Abbott run for president? These are all very interesting questions. Will Larry Hogan run for president? I think all of it helps Donald Trump

Steve Gill: Trump 2.0 Was Undercut by His Latest 'Announcement'
"That he would be wanting to do whatever was necessary to repair his image with the independence and some of those conservative Democrats of any are left, and I'm not sure this kind of stuff actually does it. It's another one step forward two steps back is announcement that he was running was spot on in terms of tone and temperament and content. And it was like, okay, Trump two. Has shown he's learned. He's going to become a new Trump that's not going to be his blustery is not going to be focused only on the path. He's going to be looking forward. He's going to show a different tone and do what it takes to win those independent young voters. Suburban women that are not in his camp. And you can not win general elections with just the Trump base. Now, like you thought, I'm a huge Trump fan. I love his policy. I'm not as offended by his bluff and bluster and behavior, but others are. And the others that are really offended by it are the ones critical to winning general elections. And I think the problem is that Trump two we saw in the announcement has now been completely undercut by this new major announcement that just again takes all the wind out of whatever push he had after the announcement. And I think just again, one step forward two steps back. I have friends who are getting 5 or 6 emails every other day from Don Junior begging for money. It's like, what are they wanting money for? And why is Don Junior putting money into his pocket or his pack or Kimberly Guilfoyle again, it looks like the worst excesses, at least they're doing it publicly, but it looks like the worst excesses of the Biden prime family when they're just kind of just money grubbing. We're looking for cash that isn't really doing anything to elect Republican candidates, promote the policies and values that he stands for. And I think, again, it's not just this episode, but it's all the people around you and they look like their money grub and using his name. And

"I want to ask this question, which is, who do we think we're dealing with? Let's go back in the time machine. You kind of think back to a time when we thought we were going to win massively. I remember being at Mar-a-Lago, producer Andrew was there with me for one of the book launch parties for the maga doctrine. If my memory serves me correctly, this was in late February of 2020 and oh times were good. It's kind of the beginning of the tale of two cities. It was the best of times and yet it was the worst of times. It was the best of times because it felt like it was the best of times. It was the worst of times because we didn't quite realize what was happening under the surface. There was a subterranean risk that was emerging. You see, we were at Mar-a-Lago and hier Bolsonaro was there. It was Kimberly Guilfoyle's birthday. The good times were flowing. Tucker Carlson was there. It was a who's who of a typical winter, Saturday evening, at Mar-a-Lago. But I would say some people were there were a couple people Tucker in particular. Tucker was there actually to warn Trump. About COVID. Ahead of the curve is always saying you better take this seriously because this could end up being a massive risk to your presidency. The economy was great. We were exporting oil, the border was largely secure. We weren't involving ourselves in foreign entanglements. Our enemies feared us, our Friends respected us. Times were great. And I remember that evening at Mar-a-Lago, higher Bolsonaro was there, the birthday parties, the times were flowing. It felt like The Great Gatsby all over again. It was the roaring 20s you could say. In February of 2020, they were talking about inauguration plans for the coming January. There was a cockiness that almost permeated the air. There was an attitude that we got this. There is nothing they can throw at us. We're the incumbent president, the economy's fabulous, they're going to nominate either a socialist or a dementia filled candidate, the mainstream media was even writing stories saying Trump will be very difficult to beat. committee what do you make of this voluntary cooperation by Don Junior now and others You know I think he's trying to get in front of it I think all the rats are looking to jump ship and hopefully land in a lifeboat when I'm hoping they land in an indictment where they belong But here's the thing I also believe that the J 6 committee is giving the Don juniors and the Ivanka's and the Jared Kushner's the opportunity to perjure themselves They're setting perjury traps perjury trap is not a dirty term All the perjury trap is stuff is you get the testimony of everybody around the people that you think did wrong Then you let the people who you think did wrong testify And you give them the opportunity to either tell the truth about everything or lie And if they lie you got them You've got perjury or more accurately a false statement to a congressional committee which is a 5 year offense They're giving them the opportunity to tell the truth and you're going to be perhaps okay or lie and perhaps you're going to have a whole world of hurt coming to you Speaking of which as we speak I believe Marjorie Taylor Greene is either I don't know They're having some hearings taking the 5th not sure what Ron fine of free speech for people is now speaking to the judge Yeah What do you make of this Obviously she seems terrified Of the fact she has to testify on earth today about the insurrection in order to stay on the ballot What's your take on today First of all a real hat tip to free speech for people John boniface and his whole crew because they are free agent democracy revived by the appellate court So he may end up being kicked off the ballot as well You know these are important citizen initiatives that I'm thrilled that groups like free speech for people are undertaking Yeah So let's talk in the same regard of Mike Lee So senator Mike Lee says the text messages he sent to Mark Meadows after the election Don't signal advocacy for overturning their results That's weird because that's how they read to me He said his only goal was to figure out Congress's role in the presidential election and sort through the theories that Trump campaign pursued to challenge the outcome He said he's known medals for a long time Characterized the Texas having a level of informality that would be reserved for a friend You know just a friend that you happen to be wanting to commit sedition with Yeah say he's just a friend Yeah Yeah He knows that when I say things like tell me what we ought to be saying what I was trying to figure out was what's your message He knows me well enough to know that it doesn't mean I'll do your bidding whatever it is Oh my God I mean first of all it's taken him forever to even he's been avoiding even saying anything right And that sounds like pathetic to me What's a little light treason among Friends Cool among us hasn't So here's the thing with Lee When you listen to that explanation he doesn't do himself any favors because he can't weasel his way out of this with his party talk the way he ordinarily thinks he can You know when you read what he was saying like you know maybe if we just get a few of the battleground states to come up with alternate electors maybe we'll have a path Well that's a recipe for overthrowing the will of the American voters So he can't get out of the express words in his texts and he's more than John eastman by calling his own memo about how to overthrow democracy calling it crazy is helping him any I mean we know what these men are We know.

"Schedule your free estimate today It is 6 11 the lawyers who came up with the failed strategy to overturn the 2020 presidential election results That man John eastman is now trying to shield thousands of documents from the House committee investigating the January 6th riot It's up to a federal judge to decide how successful eastman will be the same judge who last month referred to eastman strategy as a coup in search of a legal theory Well CBS senior investigative correspondent Catherine Herod joined us a little earlier on Skype to talk about it Well you know hard to say we know that eastman has 37,000 pages Of documents including emails many of them would be deliberative So there's an ongoing discussion between the parties and he's arguing before this judge That it should be exempt under attorney client privilege which is one of the most sacred privileges in the judicial system He could seek to extend it further if the judge decides against him on the basis that he believes the conversations may also be subject to executive privilege So I think the short answer is that it could be a somewhat extended legal process which I think is part of the goal here because they sort of run out of runway the committee once we get to the August recess Catherine what are we learning about the testimony from Kimberly Guilfoyle Well her testimony matters We know that she was with the committee for ten hours It was her second go round with the committee There was a voluntary appearance that was cut short because she apparently was not happy with how it was structured In any event what investigators want to know from her is kind of the lead up to the rally on the ellipse and then what happened afterwards in The White House We're sort of in this sort of wrapping up the fact finding part of the investigation and someone like Guilfoyle is important especially because she was fundraising for that rally based on her appearance there Another Trump insider that the committee heard from its former Trump adviser Stephen Miller investigators talked to him recently How does he fit into all of this Well Steve and Miller is someone who works very closely with the president He also drafted many of his speeches and based on our reporting that the crux of the conflict point in his testimony had to do with the language that was used in president Trump's speech on the ellipse and some language which investigators felt was designed to incite the crowd so the idea is was the speech designed to elicit the violence that followed Miller pushed back and said that the language was really not untypical of what he would often use in the present speeches but that's up to the committee to discern and the public once we see this final report CBS senior investigative correspondent Catherine herridge on Skype Hey the Nats are celebrating a matinee win and are about to take the field again next hour for game two of a double header with Arizona Dave Preston's there he's next 6 14 Hi my name is Winston archer I've worked in a large range industry for 6 years I became a member of the IBW in 2017 My life has changed because I was able to get a career going and I became homeowner I was able to start a new career.
