Live Streaming Ecommerce: the new way to sell online
"How about live streaming shopping then the verge is Carmen has an article about how livestream shopping has become huge in China and US companies are trying to catch it on here as well. Amazon. Launched live for influencers in July instagram facebook launched live shopping features in August Google their own. That's kind of on demand. It's not live the idea with these is to make a more modern shopping channel experience with influencers as the hosts, hundreds of millions of people tuned into shopping livestream. June in China it's just keeps going up and up. Kim Kardashian partnered with Chinese influence on one of these streams in China and sold fifteen thousand bottles of perfume like that. During an appearance the numbers are rising in the US now to forty thousand people watched Youtuber Nikita dragoons live shopping event on instagram five thousand items were added to shopping carts during the segment, all her branded products. So she was selling her own stuff direct to you. The people hosting live shopping streams already have dedicated fan bases that see them as friends. So the difference with QVC is with QBC. You got to know the hosts on QVC if you watched it a lot, you might kind of know the celebrity that shows up but these are folks were you feel like if you're in the influencers audience if you watch their youtube channel, you subscribe to them on Instagram you follow their tick talks you feel like you know them. So when they show up, it's not a stranger or a celebrity. It's a friend telling you like, Hey, this beauty product works great. Check it out. Also interactivities can you can you can take calls on QVC and they do that but this is live chat people who are savvy about talking to a chat room while they're doing the livestream, for instance, facebook and their Best Practices encourages folks to reply to everyone who DMZ comments according to Ashley's article on the verge. So this is one of those trends that keep an eye on. You're probably going to see this happening more and more, and it is a different spin on the old shopping channel idea. And also. It's a it's a it's a next step from what a lot of influencers are doing on their popular channels already. I actually sometimes there are people that I follow that I like and I trust I don't know that I would consider them friends but I like their content I would like to see something like this. In fact, I would like to experience this in a shopping stream type of way rather than be like Elizabeth Instagram Ad Oh? Yeah. They tagged at the end. Yeah. Okay. It's an ad. So I think that this is it. It makes a lot of sense sure there's going to be. People who are schilling things that they don't necessarily care about and that's just advertising general. But but yeah, that kind of fun. Let's hang out. Let's be interactive to me. This is not that different than watching somebody play a video game you're you're there and you're hanging out. Patrick on a scale of one to horrified how do you feel about this? Okay. So disclose your I actually was part of a set of a whole bunch of people who who did technology on Youtube or invited out to do a series of QVC type Um trials when Amazon was considering doing some while basically some programming like that it was really fascinating because one of the people there had been a term host with a certain high profile comedian on QVC and one talking to her about some of this is one of most fascinating conversations that I've ever had because they have a huge amount of control and it's all about kind of generating a certain amount of money permitted. Or second or however the metrics running. So on one hand, this makes perfect sense to me and it's it's if you're an influence, you're looking for revenue streams. This makes perfect sense. I'm kind of curious at what point they figure out how to generate more money permitted on this because at this point, it seems like it's super experimental and then Amazon will do Amazon does and they will figure out a way to turn it into this giant money generating beast of joy. But you know I think if you're an influence and you can get involved with this and you can pick up commissions why wouldn't you? Also I'm I'm curious why we're seeing Google's experimental arm put a on demand version out and according to this verge article at least one person didn't find that it that it worked very well why aren't they doing live shopping on Youtube? Why isn't that like a product that they've launched a little surprised? Maybe it's in the works in it'll come out to.

Hungarian Journalists Launch Independent News Site Amid Tightening Government Control

Here are the key moments from the final Trump-Biden presidential debate
"Presidential race is now really in a final sprint to the finish president trump and his Democratic rival. Joe Biden came face to face for the last time before Election Day and made their final pitches to voters. Last night's debate was a little calmer than the one three weeks ago. It seems the new muted microphone policy and or agreements worked because there were definitely fewer interruptions this time around and you got hear more from each candidate still there were a lot of tense moments as the candidates clashed on several key issues first of all corona virus. President Trump said we're rounding a corner with the help of treatments of vaccine is coming soon and that Americans have learned to live with cove in nineteen he emphasized the importance of not shutting down the country and cited mental health issues in job losses caused by lockdowns former. Vice. President Biden argued that people have not learned to live with it. They've learned to die with it since the pandemic has claimed more than two hundred and twenty three thousand American lives so far Biden focused on wanting to give more resources to state schools and businesses to be. Able to open but with better safety protocols and he endorsed wearing a mask to help save lives next the candidates talked about foreign affairs trump accused Biden of corruption saying he and his family made money from his time as vice president especially pointing to Biden's son hunter and his business dealings in Ukraine. But Biden promise quote I have not taken a penny from any foreign source ever in my life Biden also accuse trump of getting too cozy with. American. Adversaries like North Korean dictator Kim Jong Hoon to that trump said the fact that the US is. Not In a war with North Korea right now proves his international strategy has worked. They went on to discuss issues including race immigration health and the climate. Of course, the campaigns are only picking up speed from this point out today. Joe Biden plans to speak near his home in Delaware and till visit Pennsylvania, tomorrow President, trump headed to Florida today and tomorrow he'll hold rallies in North Carolina Ohio and
Data Alone Is Not Enough: The Evolution of Data Architectures
"Hi and welcome to the a sixteen e podcast. I'm DOS, data, data data. It's long been a buzzword in the industry whether big data, streaming data, data, analytics, data science even ai and machine learning but data alone is not enough. It takes an entire system of tools and technology to extract value from data. A multibillion dollar industry has emerged around these data tools and technologies and was so much excitement and innovation in the space. It raises the question how exactly do all these tools together This podcast featuring Ali Goatee, the CEO and founder of data bricks explores the evolution of data architectures including some quick history where they're going and surprising use case for streaming data as well as always take on how he'd architect the picks and shovels that handle data and ten today. Joining Ali this hallway style jam is a sixteen see General Partner Martinez. Casado who with other a sixteen the enterprise partners just published a series of blueprints for the modern data stack. You can find that as well as other pieces on building a businesses the empty promise of data moats and more at a sixteen dot com backslash mfl economics. In this conversation, we start with holly answering the question. How did we arrive at the set of data tools we have today Starting eighties, business leaders were kind of flying blind, not knowing how the business were doing waiting for finance to close the books and data warehousing paradigm came about they said, look we have all this data in these operational data systems. Why don't we just all that data would take it out of all of these systems transform into some place. Let's call data house and. Then, we can get business intelligence on that data and it was just a major transformation because now you have dashboard, you could know how your product is selling by region by skew by geography and that itself has created at least twenty billion dollar market that has been around for quite a few decades. Now, what about ten years ago? This technology started seeing some challenges? One more and more data types like video and audio started coming out, and there's no way you can store any of that in did our houses second they were on prem big boxes that you have to buy and the couple of storage and compute. Kim really expensive to scale them up and down, and the third thing was people wanted to do more and more machine learning ai on his data sets. They saw that we can ask future looking questions, which are my customers charn which my. Products are going to sell which campaigns should it be offering to who? So then the data leak came about ten years ago and idea was here's really cheap storage, dump all your data here and you can get all those insights and it turns out just dumping all your data in a central location. It's hard to make sense out of that data that sitting there and as a result, what people are doing now is they're taking subsets of that data moving into classic data warehouses in the cloud. So we ended up with an architectural maths stats inferior to what we had ladies go. We have data in two places and they don't make ended that or house or the stale mass, and the recent sees not great in the last two three years. There's some really interesting technological breakthroughs. That actually now are enabling a new kind of design pattern. We referred to it as the Lake House and idea is what if you could actually be able to do bi that rightly on your knowledge and what if you could do your reporting directly on your radio and your data science and your machine learning straight up on the data link I would love to tease apart a few things that have led us here. You know this is very clearly a large existing data warehouse market behind. And you know it's typified by people using sequel on structured data. Like the Emily, a use case is a little bit different than the analytics use case right the case it's normally human beings that are looking pash boards in making decisions where the. Use Case, you're creating these models and those models are actually put into production and they're part of the product they're doing pricing. They're doing fraud detection to underwriting, etc.. The analytics market is an existing buying behavior and existing customer MLA is an emerging market and so. The core question is, are we actually seeing the emergence of multiple markets order this one market? Well, there are big similarities and there are big differences. and. Let's start with similarities roughly the same data. is needed for both there's no doubt when it comes to a and machine learning a lot of the secret sauce, you'll get those. Results predictions comes with augmenting your data with additional Meta data that you have. In some sense we have the same data and you're asking questions don't differences. One is backwards looking future looking but other than that a lot of it is the same and you want to do the same kind of things with the data you want to sort of repair it WanNa have it so that you can make sense of it. If you have structural problems with your data that actually causes also problems for machine learning, actually the difference today is that. It's line of business as typically doing a and they'll science or hardcore rnd whereas housing and be I oftentimes sits in it users of the data warehouse into Beatles, our data analysts, business analysts, and machine learning. We have the all scientists machine learning engineers. We have machine learning scientists. So the personas different and it sits in a different place in the organization and those people have different backgrounds and they have different requirements on the product using today.

In Order To Change Minds, You Have To Overcome Heard Immunity
"Peeps. So today I want to talk about how to change minds. And in order to change Minds you have to overcome herd immunity. Now, I'm not talking about heard heard immunity as in what happens if everybody gets, That kind of hurt immunity. Anyways, I was working and I got this call and somebody says hey, it's Kim there. It's my wife wage. And I said no. Oh, well, you know, I just wanted to talk to you about the fact that with all the police and defunding, you know, we're collecting money blah blah blah, and I said Hey, listen, we don't and as I was talking about he kept talking in other words. It wasn't a real person. It was a robocall and so I hung up. Right when I hung up on another phone call comes in and it's another salesman set this time. It's a real guy. Now this podcast is more of a rant than lesson but hopefully you can find some golden nuggets in it. So the salesman comes right out of the gate and says, hey do you ever take birth records? And I'm going no, I don't. Oh well, have you taken him in the past? Would you consider taking them now? It's like no, I generally get most of my payments from EFT electronic funds transferred checks. Now, I didn't want to get into it that you know, I do take credit cards, but and the, you know, if you thought about it, you know you with the changing environment the way that the world is going right now, you know people are going to want to stretch their dollars and pay you via credit card just like no I don't want to do it and he says, do you know anybody that could use what I sell you off? And I said dude, it's not my Niche. I work with big B2B businesses. I don't work with business-to-consumer. That's where most of the credit card processing happens. He says off. Hey, have you ever thought about expanding your Niche and business-to-consumer? And I said no, I just shrunk it and so he just kept going on and on and on so three things came to my mind is this guy was talking. The first thing is he was not listening to me. He didn't even try to build any kind of relationship. He was completely heard immune. He did not hear a single thing that I said and it takes time to get people to listen to you too. Slowly to change their point of view a good sales person listens twice as much as they talk but this guy went the opposite direction by 10 a.m. I said to him I said, you know, I belong to some networking groups and one of them meets locally. Maybe you might want to come to one of those meetings and I told them about it and he says, oh that took her jaw. I know everybody that your gender the past or I grew up in the town and yada yada yada and it's like dude. No, you don't get it. It's not affiliated with the church. It's a networking group that meets them and he kept going on about how he knows everybody. So what I tried to do in my mind is slowed down to say okay, how do I get this guy to listen to me and to understand that trust takes time. So I asked him I said, have you ever been burned by a referral cuz oh, yeah, this one guy recommended them and you know completely took advantage of all these people and yada yada yada and it was really bad and he just kept going on and on and on and on and finally said so, you know the short answer to your question is yes, and I said, okay, but you know, the bottom line is if I'm going to refer you, I need to know who you are and what you offer and that you're going to fulfill what it is and that's why we need to build a relationship first need as well. No. No, you can trust me. I mean, I've got all these people to trust me. I've made all these great deals and I said look, you know, I know what you do. I've been part of an organization that job Actually use your type of service and he goes, oh, I hope they didn't did my competitor because you know, they're robbing them. They're taking advantage of them. Will you weren't part of that word you you know, it's like, oh man off can this get any worse?

Fairfield once again as you make your way westbound eighty they're still. Very heavy traffic in the wake of the accident that was on. West eighty near the truck scales. Coming down into cordelia had been blocking three lanes at one time traffic's getting through but with substantial backups now. At least, all the lanes are open we've had problems on the peninsula coming up, in the south San Francisco near hoist your point because of an overnight accident and the traffic's gotten very heavy let's go back to Dave FOX the Chilton auto body collision Cam lanes on. Northbound one zero one are free are clear that. Is but the off ramp and, onramps from oyster. Boy now shut down because of this crash CHP telling us, it's going to be about, a half an hour finally get things reopened damage done though northbound one zero one backed, up before SFO three trying to get onto one on. One, is backed up onto two eighty is a little bit slow getting onto the Golden. Gate. Bridge there was word of some concrete debris in the far left lane that would have been locally at the time Oh plaza. But, the backup that I'm seeing is coming out of sausalito from the tunnel. To about the north tower and then traffic seems to pick. Up the rest of the. It's on all news six nine. AM seven forty KCBS it's eight twenty I don't know about you but I get pretty excited when I file A piece for a free ice cream cone of French. Fries playing monopoly McDonalds a lot of us wonder what it would be. Like to win the big prize a handful of criminals that. Did exactly that by finding a way to rig the, system and collecting millions of. Dollars worth, of prizes dating back. To the nineteen nineties to hear more about this we're joined live on the KCBS, ring central. Newsline by Jeff a journalist and author who writes about unusual crimes. And criminals Jeff how did this whole ball get rolling on finding out that this was actually a rigged thing well this was going, on over twelve, years most of the million dollar prizes and high price, value, tickets rashly being stolen one by criminals it. Was kind of a crime, that got away with it for so long You had this one guy at the center of this thing who was. Literally on the inside because he was, there where the tickets, were being printed well run Jacobson was an ex cop and, he, was in charge of printing and getting them to the McDonalds factories with I would be put? Onto, French fry boxes and things like that. But he was guy that was stealing the tickets and giving them to his criminal associates didn't. He it raise any red flags I mean did McDonalds have like no security Well I had one. Going charge, and he was the corrupt ones That's how that went down but this was a sophisticates go peration. We, had winners that were changing their addresses and moving out state Changing their ID's just so, they could win a prize and not love McDonald's the, old if the winners were actually from one very small area in South Carolina as you detail in, your in your very lengthy piece the McDonald's, people? Became aware of at the FBI was aware of it and then came. The trap but they couldn't. Set the true to quickly right they. Wanted to play the long game and make sure they got everybody Yes the FBI, teamed up with McDonald's to. Extinct and they try to catch some of the perpetrators in? The, u. s. agents posing as McDonald stuff, they set up a camera a photo shoot with. The winners and they trap the, talking on camera about their wins there were fifty. Convictions so they were fifty people who were convicted of this crime in two thousand one just another that's interesting right is that most of us pick. This up. And said I don't really remember this how did this kind of vanish, in the annals of history well there was a big, trial in Jacksonville and the trial started one day before nine eleven so it was quickly forgotten about, that's why you probably never heard of this, story? Do the investigators feel like they got everybody who was involved in this The people but as? My, story says there's probably more to it, than we know about it we're probably more more. Criminals involved and did this lead, to changes in the way McDonalds or Safeway or. Anybody else who's doing one of these kinds of games runs the operation Oh yes yeah, well McDonald's fired the promotional company involved in this scam. And obviously there are a lot. More checks and balances and security experts I spoke to for the, story told me that you should never leave one person in charge of everything Cycle that responsibility out between several people to prevent the temptation of In the end did they ever come up. "And that should actually work well should it not an increasing the pressure on kim well certainly i think that there are probably three reasons why kim agreed to talk to or wanted to talk to president trump and certainly the fear of an american strike on north korean facilities was on the list the other two by the way kim needed sanctions released because us and un sanctions are severely restricting the flow of cash to the regime and also kim wants to drive a wedge between south korea and the united states to get off the peninsula that isn't working because president trump immediately agreed to this summit which is what the south korean president moon jae in wanted so trump just instinctually brilliantly decided look i'm not going to allow the north koreans to drive that wedge between us in our alliance partners and in terms of president moon is it possible that because he has gotten elected president of south korea because with the promise of more engagement with the north that might actually work to the advantage of a potential deal well it might president moon is from what's called the three eighty six generation in south korea which is brilliantly antiamerican at for some really bad reasons 'cause they misunderstood the process whereby south korea democratize they thought we were the enemy of democratisation we're in fact we weren't so move if it were up to him he would throw us off peninsula as well as kim jong un the good thing is that the south korean populace knows a lot better and you know it's not only the older voters who remember the sacrifices american made during the korean war but also younger south korean voters because they don't buy into moon's notion of one korean state they believe in south korea as a society society separate and apart from north korea so younger south koreans realized that the us is there to protect south korea that's something that moon doesn't quite appreciate as much as he should so you know what we've got right now is a situation where president trump is appealing to the hearts and minds of south korean voters to make sure that their president doesn't throw the us out of asia let us hope that he does so and continues to do so successfully that's gordon chang he is a columnist at the daily beast you can read all about his work including his book nuclear showdown up at our website at michael medved dot com we'll be right back with more on guarantees for success in korea and in life coming up.
