"Miami, who was just a bit player there. They've got a recruit, like a top 80 guy coming in and gave cups and along with a Kai Newton who's a four star player there. So they have pieces, the question is Gary Parrish. Do you have Indiana ranked or does embos edition not even get you there? Because I think getting embo is the piece that gives Indiana fans hope that this can continue, as I said, to start this in the right direction. Year one was solid year two was a little bit better. They almost broke through everything into the second weekend. They ran into final 14 Miami there. Hiding in the next season, I don't think you can ask this team to be too much better than it was last season. But at least in Baku, who I think has a chance to be one of the 5 most productive freshmen in the country, I think this was borderline necessary for what's in to make sure that the momentum is still going in the right direction. I do not have Indiana ranked. Do you agree with me if he would have committed to Kansas? It would be almost unanimous number one Kansas. Because I think, especially if in Baku's deployed the right way and used the right way, that's why I want to see what happens here at IU. Yeah, I think K you probably needs to be, although I'm never a fan of unanimous number ones because we see how that can backfire. But from a practical standpoint, it would have been hard to argue against the jayhawks but that's not where we're at. I do not have Indiana in the top 25 and one. But I do think if things break the right way, they've got a legitimate chance to be the second best team in their state. Again. I think Indiana, if everything goes the right way. Can be the second best men's basketball team in the state again. Okay, gosh. I think that's on the table. Like, I don't think that's set in the bar too high. Like can you Indiana, IU, be the second best basketball team in the state of Indiana? I think so. Do you think so? I do, I do. I take it and do that. And I don't think that. Is that setting the bar too high for them? Would Indiana fans be like, come on, GP, don't get unreal. I think you can be the second best team in the state of Indiana. Wow. I'm trying to, you know, this commitment happened what four days ago. I'm trying to give IU fans a little bit of love on the show. Talk about their big, their big git that's going to have them, you know, believe in they can be a factor in the Big Ten race. And here you are. Let's try Indiana fence. Listen, continue to listen to the show. I'm working as best I can for you. But you see what I'm up against here. I think no. Listen, there was a time where I think Indiana would set out to try to be the best men's basketball team in the state of Indiana every year, right? We lived through that. We remember that world enough to remember that. And so, you know, over time, things change. I still think they can compete to finish in the top two. Depending on what obviously depending on what's going on with the sycamores. I think they could be. One of the greatest players in the history of the game literally did leave in the end of the play for Indiana state, so there's also that. Okay. Is it true that Indiana has under achieved each of the past two seasons? Underachieved? No. Well, in 2022, they started 30th that Kim pom and they finished 48. And in 2023, they started 12th at Ken bomb and finished 31. So is it true? That Indiana has underachieved each of the past two seasons. I guess according to Kim pom, it's true. I don't feel like Indiana underachieved last season. What? I'm clearly just goofing around this whole bed. This is a whole lot just goofing around. Here's the big picture. What are you talking about? They finished tied for second in the Big Ten. They had the second best player in the country. They got a four seed and went up against a final four team and played them well and won 23 games in their second season under Mike Woodson, I don't feel like it was an underachieving season for Indiana. I feel like they might have hit the mark of what was reasonably expected. You thought that they underachieved? I'm not even joking. This isn't a bit. I feel like they kind of leveled out where they should have last season. Okay. And they didn't have to give your Johnson. Jalen Japan, female is going to be a first round pick. I know. I have too many issues. I mean I'll just keep it simple. They were projected to win the Big Ten. They didn't. They started 12 at Kim pom and finished 30th. What are you talking about? That's underachieving. Okay. I mean, in what world is that not underachieving? I didn't pick Indiana to win the Big Ten. So I guess in my I have at this for my own expectations, I didn't have Indiana lofted that high. I saw the bigger picture. I knew it was actually possible. And achievable, and I didn't, I didn't hold on to that kind of thing. I believed in him. I picked Indiana to win the Big Ten. I believed in him. But like, you know what? That's on me. That's on me. Fool me once. Shame on you.

"The story is the game and Jim wanted it to be the game, but I want to acknowledge the guy. He was in our cold open on the first episode of March and he was, he was just unbelievable to sit down, take a walk down memory lane, try and keep it about the teams with understanding that, you know, I had, I had to write the story on him. He was gracious enough to give me his time. And I was able to share a quick word with him before the game tonight as he settled in. So that was wonderful. I actually recorded the game because when I go back, I always watch rewatch the title game, but this one in particular, I want to hear the call. I want to hear grant, I want to hear rap Tracy and then hear how Jim calls it. So thank you, Jim, for everything and allowing allowing me in and a hell of a basketball career. By the way, we'll see you in two days at the masters. You wouldn't have heard this because you were in the building, but the final 90 seconds of this game took a while and it was a blowout. So as an announcer, you've got a lot you got time to feel. And people are just talking. And at some point, Jim, you know, it is brought up that it is his last game and grant and raff start really trying to turn the conversation. It's all rooted in the best place, right? They just wanted to honor their friend and colleague and grant and raff started trying to take it to they were just talking about Jim nantz and how much he Jim you've met this and you've done this and you've done this and he very quickly just took it and turned it the other direction. But this is about the Yukon. This is about Danny Hurley. He didn't want to feel that final minute with a bunch of Jim Nance talk. And instead turn the focus back on to Yukon. And that's just a perfect reflection of who that guy is. Jim has always been, couldn't be nicer to me. And complimentary and just, you know, when you meet an alleged, he's we mean a lot of people in this business. He's a legend. He's an actual legend. And you don't ever know how those people are going to be, or if they know who you are, or if they care who you are. And boy, you know, I'm just me, but man, he always made me feel like I mattered. And I get the sense that he does that with everybody. He makes everybody feel like they matter. He's all time great broadcaster. But certainly in my experience, just a really great man as well. So I thought he handled the moment beautifully and I'm glad that so many people are able to say so many good things about him and you were able to spend time with him and write that column because he deserves everything he gets. Back to Yukon and then we'll move on. The huskies finished 31 and 8. And just their season as we've sort of touched on is just a weird season. They start 14 and O with 13 double digit wins. Their last 13 games of the season, they go 12 and one. When their last 6 by at least 13, and in the middle of that, there's a 5 and 7 record over a 12 game stretch. They finished number one at Kimball. I wish Jared berson was here. He could help me with this. They finished number one at kenpom. And won the national title, but did not win their league or their league tournament. Do you think that's ever happened? Well, first of all, it's easily researchable. So you keep talking and I'll see if I can give it to you right now. Hold on, you want one at Ken pom and didn't do this. You got to finish one at Kim pom. You got to win the national title, but you could not have won your league title or your league tournament title. I know, by the way, three minutes. By the way, UConn is now 5 and zero in national championship games, which is, I believe, I know, is the best record on far. By far, they already held the record when they were four now. Yeah, they already held the record when they were four zero. In this tournament, they beat iona by 24 saint Mary's by 15 Arkansas by 23 Gonzaga by 28. Miami by 13 San Diego state by 17. It's a nice round number. You've already said it one 20 divided by 6. You know what that gets you? Absolutely dominant performance. Just went through this bracket with really no issues. And whether I know you were ranking modern history teams is it better than this one better than this one. I think we can agree on this. Yukon is the no four seed, no four seed has ever run through the tournament like this four seed ran through the tournament. And one last point I want to make is that they do this as a biggie's program. But just three years ago, they were not a biggie's program. They were an American athletic conference program. And I think the people at that school recognized if we want to be UConn basketball again, what we know, what we know it to be, what we know it can be. We've got to go back to the big east. And if that means sacrificing our conference affiliation with our football program, then that's what we're going to have to do. And though it certainly looks like a brilliant decision now, in that moment, it wasn't crystal clear that that's the smart, long-term, big picture thing to do, to basically tell your football program. We don't care where you're playing because we need our basketball program. Both men's and women's in the big east. And I know Danny wanted to make that move. I know Gino wanted to make that move. And I think you can reasonably say, I'd like to get your opinion on this. If you kind of administration doesn't make the decision to leave the American for the big east and not completely sacrifice football, but certainly diminish football. Just say we're prioritizing basketball in the biggies over anything else. In a time where most universities even pass so called basketball schools, prioritize football because that's the big money maker, that's the thing that gets you where you want to go in terms of conference realignment. You kind of administration decided we're putting our basketball programs back to the big east for better or worse when it comes to football and I think you can reasonably argue that without that decision being made, this night might not have ever happened. I completely agree with you on that. The thought actually flashed across my mind as I was writing the column, but I didn't want to just take a duck down an alleyway into that. I think that's a major part of this without a doubt, worth further examination. We can even get some more Yukon on the other side. The answer to your question never happened. Yukon is the only team to win a title. Be one at Ken palm and fail to both win its league and win its league tournament, had never been done before in this era, Yukon, another barrier broken. All right, so that's 35 minutes of looking back. Next we'll look ahead. Well, you can't be the favorite to also win the 2024 NCAA tournament. We're going to discuss that next. But first, a word from our partners. So here's the question. Is you kind of also going to

"Different teams got first place votes. Fart Atlantic did not. But the house one conference USA, outright, by multiple games, then they won the CSA tournament, and now they're in the final four with a 35 and three record. Do you like excellence? That's excellence. Do you like overachieving? That's overachieving. Two weeks ago, dusty may not have made my top three coach of the year candidates, but based on all of the data we now have about him and what he's done to this point in the season, dusty may is going to be my national coach of the year. You know, though, if we're going to go based off head to head, like I was saying, we also have to consider Kermit Davis, now fired at old myths. We have to consider Andy Kennedy for UAB and Nick mcdevitt, right? An empty SU? The only three coaches to beat dusty may this season. In that while, how did old miss beat Florida Atlantic like, I mean, I know it was November, but that's a head scratcher there. Right. But that loss is among the reasons it took Florida Atlantic longer than it otherwise would have to crack The Associated Press top 25 poll or even the CBS sports top 25 and one, but they eventually cracked both. And now, I believe the Kim pom numbers have updated Florida Atlantic is up to 17th at Ken pom. So this is a legitimate basketball team. It's an incredible story and an unlikely story, but this is a legitimate basketball team with, I think, realistic national championship hopes. Again, with most of those so called mid majors that have advanced to the final four, I gave them almost no shot to win another game, much less two more. I mean, it's one of the simplest things anybody's ever said about the final four as it pertains to traditional Cinderella's, but the thing that makes winning the national championship very, very difficult, even if you get to the final four, is because you still gotta be too good teams. And they're probably usually two teams better than you. And that's hard to do. But whatever teams are going to be in the final four with Florida Atlantic, I think outside of maybe Yukon, which can obviously be physically from a talent perspective. Overwhelming for opponents. I wouldn't put anybody else as a big favorite over Florida Atlantic. I think they can beat anybody left in this tournament, including Yukon. And so on Saturday, we're going to have a final four game. Check this out. On Saturday we're going to have a final four game between a conference USA school and either a mountain west school or a school that was in the Missouri valley ten years ago. That's where we're headed. So that's going to be a lot of fun. College basketball, man. It is something else. Well, back to the thing. You don't get this in college football. And you can't get these types of stories in most mainstream American sports. Florida Atlantic is the most talked about basketball team in the country right now. And it's a team that, unless you're a real die hard, you weren't talking about it or thinking about at all just a few weeks ago.

"The country that's top 13 in both. And they were terrific in every way against Arkansas. Like I mentioned up 17 at the half, they shot 60.7% from the field, 44.4% from three and a 100% from the free throw line in the first 20 minutes. They had a 60 4100 in the first half against the top 15 defense. For the game, they finished 57% from the field, 45% from three, 81% from the line. I mean, just, you know, those are absolutely insane numbers. Against anybody. But especially against a team that is as talented and as athletic as Arkansas. So. You're reminded of, I guess, the quote was from a little more than two years ago. Maybe three years ago, Dan Hurley famously said in a press conference, people better get us now. That's all. You better get us now because it's coming. As I pointed out in the column I wrote, it's here. It has arrived. I don't know if Yukon is going to win another game to get to the final four for the first time since 2014 or win three more games to take a national championship for the first time since 2014. But what I do know is they're good enough to do it. And that's another point I made in the column, though they were never at any point in the season, ranked number one in the a people or the coaches Paul. Mostly because Purdue beat them there. It was like a race from the race by the unranked undefeated teams to get to the top and Purdue beat them there. And you kind of never got higher than second. But in December, UConn did move to number one at Ken pom. And never left the top 6. Even when they went two and 6 and 8 game stretch never again left the top 6 at Kim pom. My point being, I don't know if they will do it, but what the computers have told us and what our eyeballs told us on Thursday night is that they're definitely good enough to do it. We've known that since December. Yeah, not surprising at all. This Yukon team in a lot of ways, I think, is so fun because they kind of embody how Dan Hurley is, his personality, which is fiery in a word. And this team just plays with some confidence, some swagger, and we've seen it at various points this season. They had some highs. They had some lows, but when they're really rolling, like when they're rolling today, I think, I don't think there's any team that's more fun to watch. When they really have their stuff going when Sunoco is really rolling down low and clinging his rolling down low. And they have the shooting to go with it. Like this is both offensive and defensively. This team, I think, is so much fun to watch and not surprising at all that Hurley called a shot. I bet a few looked, you could probably find a similar quote from Bobby Hurley on Arizona state. Yeah, I mean, they have really blossomed in a way that the pieces just fit. Like muscle on set, the shooting works, the guards work. Everything seems to be working at just the right time. And the confidence level is at a level we haven't seen. And when you blow out an Arkansas team, that was this talented. And I get not the highest seated team. This Arkansas team was only an 8 C, but talent wise. I mean, this was like a three or four seated team in the incident white tournament. And they just blew the doors off of them. So I think this could really change kind of their trajectory moving forward. Felt really good about Yukon, obviously going forward, but now whenever by 23 over this Arkansas team, man, stunning. So now it's going to be Yukon Gonzaga. We now have tip Tom's 8 49 p.m. eastern on Saturday night against 8 49 p.m. eastern on Saturday night. It'll be on TBS. And Yukon has opened as a two point favorite. So even though Yukon is the four C Gonzaga is the three based on those strong computer numbers and the idea that you could reasonably argue nobody is playing better basketball right now than Yukon Yukon has opened as a two point favorite over Gonzaga the total opened at one 53.5. You mentioned that you don't know if there's a more enjoyable entertaining, more fun team to watch. When it's operating at a high level than UConn. I respect the opinion. But perhaps this will lead us straight into the east regional. Maybe it's Kansas state? Maybe Kansas state's more fun? Because monkeys no el put on a show inside Madison Square Garden on Thursday night. The New York native finished with 20 points and an NCAA tournament record 19 assists in KSU's 98 93 overtime victory at the garden. He threw a legendary alley oop to chianti Johnson in the final minute of OT that broke a 92 92 tie, got to lay up at the buzzer that gave the wildcats a 5 point win. What did you make of marquise Noel's record setting performance in his hometown and Jerome Tang's program now being just one went away from its first final four appearance since 1964 that's coming after everybody knows. KSU was picked dead last by everybody in the preseason big 12 pole. All my short kings out there stand up, let's go. Marquise Noel was so fantastic in this game. I immediately regret saying Yukon was the most fun team to watch because oh my gosh, this Kansas state team, so much fun. Marquis Noel put on a show inside the garden, coming back to New York City. Noelle had 20 points, 19 assists. Including ten assist in the first half GP, trivia time. Okay. Okay. There's only been one player. In the NBA this season to have at least ten assists. And a half inside Madison Square Garden. Who was it? Tinnitus did a half inside Madison Square Garden. I'm going to be loyal, say John morant. Oh, I knew you were going to do that. Incorrect. James Harden. February 5th had ten assists in the first half versus the Knicks finished with 12 marquees Noelle finished with 19 assists set an in CAA tournament record. He was fantastic. From start to finish, he had an injury scare in the second half. He came back. Immediately had a crazy acrobatic shot falling down fade away from three point line to make it. It was just his night and it was so cool to see after the games he's talking about just being humble like crediting his teammates. I mean, just very cliche, but you could tell like this meant a lot to him coming back to New York City to play in Madison Square Garden, which is like the venue of all venues. And to not only do that to lead a team to an overtime win, but to play the way that he did, I thought was so awesome. This Kansas state team I think it will give you a pretty good run as the most fun team to watch in the instant boy tournament. Don't make mess around and vote Marquis Noel national player of the year. 'cause I'm not above that either. Shoot. I'll get caught up in the moment. Really, he's been awesome all season. And I know Jalen Wilson won big 12 player of the year and I'm not going to argue with that. He was the best player on the outright conference champion and also had tremendous numbers. But marquise Noel has been awesome all season. And that one two punch with him and chianti Johnson, it's crazy to think about how

"Similarly, if Michigan state would have had a healthy Jalen Clark, Tom izzo could be coaching in the elite 8 again and if and if Rick Barnes had a healthy Jalen Clark, Tennessee, I mean, they'd have probably still lost and probably still scored in the 50s, but still they could have maybe held FAU to a little lower number, you know? Yeah. Healthy Jalen Clark. I hate that it took this type of thing to happen to make everybody understand exactly what a healthy Jalen Clark can do for you. But here is UCLA gone in the sweet 16. After being a two seat in the instantly tournament, at least in part possibly because they did not have a healthy Jalen Clark. Tried to tell you. I knew I'd be right eventually. You're right, GP. You're right. Clip that you're right. Making me very uncomfortable to say that myself into hear other people say it. But I do. But I do appreciate it. You mentioned it, west regional final. It's going to be Gonzaga and Yukon, and that's because the huskies beat Arkansas brains in on Thursday night. 88, 65. We'll get to that one next, but first a word from our partners. If somebody in the comments wondered if I thought healthy Jalen Clark could have helped arc. I don't even think a healthy Jonathan Clark was going to help Arkansas. Not today. Not in this one, because the final score was 88, 65. Jalen Clark worth a lot healthy. Not 23 points. This game was a blowout really for the final 30 minutes. UConn led by double digits barely ten minutes in by as many as 20 9 in the second half, one by 20 three points. I won't ask if you're surprised UConn one, because Yukon was supposed to win. But are you surprised that Arkansas wasn't even competitive in this game? Because I thought you kind of went, I thought you kind of would cover. My public picks are out there to prove it. But I didn't think Arkansas would get run off the court the way it got run off the court. I mean, the game, again, for the final 30 minutes, was not even competitive. Yeah, I think I'm surprised that Arkansas did not keep this close. On one hand. On the other hand, I'm not surprised that Yukon blew the doors off of this Yukon team. This Yukon team that we've seen at various points throughout the season has played like the best team in college basketball. And people look at Yukon, they see the four next to them on the bracket and think, oh, there are four seats. They had a pretty good year. They had some ups and downs, but when they were hot, when this team was really rolling, I think they were the best team in college basketball. Now you could put Houston up there. You could put Alabama up there. We could have an argument about it. But Yukon for stretches during the season was unquestionably a top three team in college basketball. And they were annihilating people in the same way that Alabama kind of annihilated people in the SEC. And so I thought Arkansas would be a little bit more competitive. They have a ton of talent on this team. It's shocking that they would get blown out in the way in which they got blown out. I mean, several 5 stars on this roster, Anthony black, Nick Smith, you know, guys who I think will be top ten picks. Black was really good. Had 20 points, Nick Smith did make a start tonight. He had 11 points. Devo Davis, only three points he got in foul trouble early. Ricky council had 17, but was somewhat inefficient. So yeah, I mean, this Yukon team, I think they are finally meeting the expectations that we had throughout the season for them. They are being more consistent on a regular basis. And when they are playing at their peak powers, I think they're maybe one of the best teams in college basketball and they're obviously advancing in doing so pretty convincingly. Yeah, I think everybody knows at this point, Yukon started 14 and O with 13 double digit wins, including a 15 point victory over Alabama. I've said that so many times I haven't memorized, like better than my kids birthdays. I have to think about when my kid birthdays are more than I have to think about this. You can start at 14 and O with 13 double digit victories, including a 15.1 over Alabama. I could say it in my sleep. I might be saying it in my sleep right now. You don't know. You don't know if I'm awake or not. Then you can lost 6 of 8. They went two and 6 in a stretch in their biggie schedule. And then they won 11 of 13. So they entered this game 27 and 8. Now they're 28 and 8. And just because they are a four seed, doesn't mean that that's an accurate reflection of the caliber of this basketball team right now. They're a four seed in the bracket that is now ranked third at Ken pom. Their kin palm ranking is better is better than their actual seed. Like, go find another team that that applies to. I mean, Houston is a one and a one. Alabama is a one C but two at Ken pom, Connecticut's a four seat three at Kim pom. Connecticut has a better Kim pom rating than it has a seed. And I'm not even debating whether they are under seated. You see the resume. And the resume did include a game stretch where they lost 6 of those. But I remember talking to norlander about it, even during that stretch or right after that stretch and pointing out that if you sort, I don't know if you know you can do this. But if you sort the data over at Bart torbert dot com, even in that stretch where you went to and 6, they were still performing like a top 30 team in America. So they weren't playing badly. They were just losing games. And I know that might sound weird, but the data was the data. Well, now they're playing really well again. And no escalators, the wonderful Yukon account tweeted this to me. Reminded me that you can sort data over at Bart Thorpe dot com, which I appreciate, 'cause sometimes I do forget. That's awesome. But if you sort it from February 1st to this day, do you know who the two best teams? It's a trivia time. Teams in the country are since February 1st. According to Mark poor Vic dot com. Okay, okay. It's got to be obvious. Otherwise, I'm setting this up for no reason whatsoever. One of them's got to be Yukon. The other one. One of them is.

"Probably tell from my suit and my shirt and green tie, Saint Patrick's Day. Makeup, still in full makeup, didn't have time to take it off, rushed here, got here as quickly as I could. We had, do I look smooth? Am I not shining under the lights? That's the main goal with this bald head. You got to get enough powder on it to make sure you don't shine under the lights. We had Tobin Anderson on CBS Sports Network tonight and I used that opportunity to ask him about your conversation with him back in January, not as got the clip. Let's roll that now. Toby and Gary Parrish here, I gather, you had a conversation back in January with my colleague David Cobb about the possibility of maybe when Purdue was ranked number one in the country, playing Purdue in a one versus 16 matchup. And you guys actually, you know, talk through it. How surreal is it to be sitting here in March after actually living through that game and then finishing on this side of it? Yeah, David and I were laughing about an officer. What would happen if you played against Zach and yes, I will have to triple team him quadruple the team have said the whole team and him, whatever we were laughing and joking all of a sudden it came through. I'm like, oh my God, we got to go do this now, so amazing. Just to walk out there and see them and see how good they are and I got tremendous respect for Purdue and how they do things. So, you know, we understood the challenge at hand. It was an unbelievable challenge, but it was in hot guys just played terrific. I mean, I just I couldn't believe how well we played and, you know, it's what makes March Madness so special and the NCA tournament so special is a chance for a team like us. If we played up a hundred times, they'd probably be this 98 99 times per one time or one chance to punch her chance. We got it done tonight and that makes it, later in that interview, you know, we talked about a number of things. But one of the points I subsequently made is that this is to me the neatest thing about the NCAA tournament and really college basketball in general. If we were in the first round of the NFL playoffs right now and we were NFL podcasters or whatever. We would be talking about things that in some form we've been talking about all year long. It'd be Joe burrow would be Lamar Jackson. It'd be Patrick Mahomes, whatever. If we were in the Major League Baseball playoffs right now and we were podcasting about baseball. We would be talking about some things that we've talked about already. I write about this sport, talk about this sport, podcast, radio interviews, television. I don't know that I've said 20 words about fairly Dickinson all season long, and yet now fairly Dickinson is the biggest story in this sports postseason, at least right now. And I genuinely don't think that's anything you could get in any other mainstream sport in America. Back to the idea that this was the greatest upset in incidentally tournament history. From a point spread perspective, Purdue was a 23 point favorite over fairly Dickinson in this game. Virginia was only a 20 and a half point favorite over UMBC. So technically speaking, this is a bigger upset than that one versus 16. The only other one versus 16 that we've seen the 16 win in the history of the sport. Some other notable things about fairly Dickinson, they come from a one bit league where the conference tournament champion is going to get the automatic bin. 'cause I'm not here because Mary Mack is an eligible for the NCAA tournament. Fairly Dickinson didn't win. I mean, I guess technically they won their way to the championship game, and that was good enough, given the opponent. But they did not win their conference tournament to get here the way every other school in a one bid league has to do it. Fairly Dickinson Jay billis pointed this out on Twitter, ranks 300 and heading into the game, ranked 353rd in the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency. And three 152nd in two point field goal percentage defense, heading into a game against Zack Edie. And produce scored 58 points. What? UMBC, by the way, in 2018, entered the game against Virginia, a 188th at Ken palm, fairly Dickinson entered this game 299th at Kim pom. And I want to give credit where credit's due. At Joe stannard on Twitter, tweeted this out earlier and it got retweeted into my timeline. I thought it was interesting. He tweeted that if you put 2023 fairly Dickinson on a neutral court against 2018 UMBC, according to Ken pom, UMBC would be a 7 point favorite over fairly Dickinson. And so analytics man analytics, you can not measure you can not measure the heart, Gary. You can not measure the heart of the united. You know what is a shame though, Gary? Saint Peter's was the peacocks. And the peacocks had a great noise associated with them. How do you, how do you be a knight? I mean, I don't know how to be a knight. I need armor. I guess I would need it starts with armor. I think becoming a armor. So you just can't, I mean, I bet you can at 1 a.m. in New York City find armor somewhere. I don't know where to get armor this time of night. And even if it's fairly Dickinson, Gary, if fairly Dickinson, wins against Florida Atlantic and advances to the sweet 16, will you do a podcast yet with at least one piece of flight armor? If I can find full night armor, I will wear full night armor

"I hope they're okay. I hope they're doing all right. Yeah. It's my relationship with pit fans right now. Boy, they couldn't stop tweeting there for a minute. Couldn't stop. I know. I ain't heard anything past couple of days. What are you taking? Hope the Miami. What are we talking about? Kavanaugh twins arena with an ACC title on the line? What are we even talking about? I'm laying the points. Miami and Virginia will be co ACC champions. And one. It's time for the N one. I was surprised you didn't put this one in. I have to objectively put in the best or at least, I don't know. It's the one that seems to have the most on the line this weekend among elite teams. Saturday. Ten eastern on ESPN on Toby Bailey court it's number 8 Arizona at number four UCLA. Ken pom has the line. You ready for this? UCLA minus 9. 9. What do you got? There was an argument between UCLA and Arizona fans as recently as two weeks ago. About who's the better team? Who's got the better resume? Who should it be higher seat in the tournament? Now that's over. UCLA has a three game lead in the conference standings. And assuming they win at home, which is what they're projected to do. They will win the pack 12 outright by four games. Would you have UCLA number one seed right now? I would. I think I would narrowly have, how about this? UCL, UCLA would be if we had a bracket right now, blind bracket, I'm either picking Houston or UCLA to win the whole damn thing. But I have Purdue by the narrowest of margins ahead of UCLA on the one line and I mean narrow and that flips if UCLA beats Arizona this weekend. Who are you taking? My number one seeds right now would be Houston, Alabama, Kansas, and UCLA. I would have produced a two. But I understand it's very, very debatable. Take an Arizona plus the place. It's just a lot of points. I think you see a wins the game. But 9 points, that's what you give me? I'll take azules to Bellas plus 9 points. I have to take zone a two, which I believe now means, nada, you're tracking this right away. You've got it all wrong. Kim pom has at UCLA -7. I have 9 in the document. What do you want from me? You're the one that put that there. I know. Hey, listen. Wait a minute, it's not even 9 in the document. It's 7 in the document. What are we doing? I don't know. I hope you clean this up before TV. And my other document with my rest of my schedule here. I hope you clean up all this nonsense. Oh, this is what they wanted on television. What do you want for me? I'm still, I'm sticking with Arizona. I assume, even though 7 versus 9, you're sticking zona plus 7? Yes, but the big bosses are gonna be watching on two. Don't ruin this for us, dead leg, you gotta get your numbers right. Me. Me? You gotta get your number one that needs to be worried about going on television with FCC regulations, okay? I'm not the one that's gonna be monitored in this situation. Twins arena, okay? They're always up to sad. You know? They're always up to something. I don't think I can surpass them this weekend, right? 'cause we don't have more than three games different. You can not surpass them, but you can tie if he misses on these things. Okay. That's fine, and we got plenty of time in March. It's only a matter of time here. All right, I see the chat. I didn't forget. Trust me. I know the most important game of the weekend and I'm getting to it. Here's what you need to know. Bubble games galore, Friday night, New Mexico 21 to 9 at Colorado state has to have it or has no at large case period needs it and then needs to win in the mountain west tournament. Lobos Friday is your only game of urgency. It is an auto bid weekend. We will have four bids handed out. One on Saturday and then a troika on Sunday. Here's what you need to know. Saturday. Ohio valley championship, as always, the OVC gets the first bit into the big dance. That's 8 eastern on ESPN2. We don't know the match up yet. More head state is the one seed. Sunday, one eastern ESPN2, big south title game, UNC Asheville, coached by Mike morrell, has drew pember, a Tennessee transfer. He's the big south player of the year. Asheville is the one seed. Two eastern on CBS, as always, the Missouri valley could be a huge Bradley Drake title game. Hope we get that. Those are a couple of great teams, both top 80 level and Ken pom. Two eastern on CBS on Sunday. And then three eastern, why did we not lead the podcast with this? We already know the matchup three eastern ESPN2. It is the us versus them title game. It is liberty at kennesaw state, a university in greater Atlanta taking on liberty. There has never been a more us versus them situation in its entirety. This is a bonus. This is a bonus. Let me bring this up right now. There is a line because there's already, there's a Ken palm, because we already know the match up here. Liberty, this is Ken palm has it. Liberty on the road the one seat never been to the tournament before ever. Liberty minus four on the road, nada, this is going to the tally, us versus them, who you got because them is favored GP. I would never go with them. You're telling me you got a bunch of guys who do it. Against a bunch of guys who don't. And the guys who do it are getting four points? Who's gonna be tight before this game? I mean, come on now. You tell them we got one team with fluid buildup and another team that doesn't have fluid buildup. From the greater Atlanta area, you're not gonna stay the phrase. Next week, right? In the greater Atlanta area, you ever done in the greater Atlanta area dead like be honest. I have not. I have. I have not. Again, this is not for television. Get it all out of your system literally over the weekend, okay? I'm serious. We're on the same page. Kennesaw state, come on. More of us hashtag more of us. All of us, kennesaw, state. If you're official Twitter account after you win this game, doesn't tweet, there's more or less. Oh my gosh. Make it happen. Come on kids. Yes. You're from you're from the greater Atlanta area. Make it happen kind of saw state. You're Saturday bubble watches here. Tennessee at auburn, two eastern auburn loses that. We have a real, this is already real situation. Tigers. By the way, how about Bruce pearl's reaction on the radio after the Alabama game you heard it? I had not heard that. I wish I had it queued. I figured you'd heard it. He started screaming, I'm tired of our guys getting smashed down there. Oh no. No, somebody sent that to me. I didn't even know that was Bruce pearl. If he goes, it's a joke. He did him. He did a me. He did, it's a joke, and he threw off his headset. Right into the mic. Oh wow. Yeah, how about that? Tennessee at auburn, two eastern, on Saturday. BP's one of us. Obviously. K state at West Virginia two eastern ESPN+, these are all bubble games. UNL Viet Nevada, how about this one? 5 eastern on? What's your mountain west network situation at home base, Gary parish? Do I have it? That's the question. I mean, I should. All right. It's like a great TV. I have every channel direct TV

"Can you update us on the records, please? Some are saying my lead is insurmountable. I can't call a two game lead insurmountable. I thought I closed by one last week. No, you both went four in one. Hey. Hard to improve on your deficit when I'm out there going four and one. Okay. I thought you would have closed too, but all I know is that GP is 20 games over 500. 20 games over 500. I ain't no Detroit mercy. Oh gosh. We got a big, big weekend ahead. Some people are calling it insurmountable. I asked people sometimes as I'm like, what do you think about my lead and they say, it appears insurmountable. That's what people are telling me. I know what I need right now. What do you think? There we go. Not this again. You don't try to bring this to television, next week. What if you could start playing music in the B block? I will not. But this is how I get it back. This is how it happens. Game one. Let's go. Game one, Saturday, new Easter. Number two, Alabama at number 24 Texas a and M inside AC law arena. You can watch it on CBS. It's America's most watched network. It's a network of stars. Kim pom has an Alabama minus three. It'll be the final presumably final road game of Brandon Miller is now controversial college career. And this isn't a roadie at South Carolina. I will take a and M in this spot. I think it's got really good potential to be a very competitive game and a very close game. I will go with buzz Williams team, has lost once since February 1 that did happen last weekend at Mississippi state. But I'll go with the aggies, no chance at claiming any SEC crown, but I think they've got enough shooting and enough offense. In the interior specifically to get it done at home, aggies when Aggie's cover. Ever since it's been known that Brandon Miller was connected to a murder. Alabama hasn't been that sharp. Needed overtime to win at South Carolina. Beat Arkansas at home only by three. And then struggled at home the other night with auburn. They were down big. Came back and won the game in overtime, so credit where credit's due. There's your outright SEC champs, but they have not been playing their best basketball recently. That's a big ask for them to go on the road and win at a and M I'm with you. I think Ana wins the game. So I'll take the points. I gotta get him straight up. Game crew. Saturday 2 p.m. eastern. Number 23, Kentucky. At Arkansas inside Todd day arena. You can watch it on CBS. You sound surprised. You picked the game. I know, but I'm just wondering if I got all these networks right. Okay. This is a CBS game. It is America's most watched network. It's a network of stars. Kim pom has an Arkansas -5 as of this moment. We do not know the status of case and Wallace who left Kentucky's midwick game. Vanderbilt with a leg injury of some sort. That's a good point. And not knowing his status actually might change my pick. I'm gonna do it. It's Kentucky to cover if Wallace is available. Arkansas cover if he's gonna know. You have to place your bet right now. Why? Why? Because you can't have qualifiers on everything. You either take Kentucky if you thought it was allowable. I feel like if you thought of this first, you would have said, no, we can do this. But since I came up with the first, you don't want it to happen. I was going through a team and not for thee. That's what I'm hearing right now. I was going through TSA yesterday and they said, can I see your boarding pass? I said, of course. And then they said, what's your lead looking like now? I said, it's two games. And they said, they said, this seems insurmountable. That's what it was said to me. That was the word that was used insurmountable. You got to pick the game. It's either laying points with Arkansas or taking points with Kentucky. I'll take Kentucky to cover. Even I'll let you try and get this lead to be even more insurmountable because I know I know you're taking the hogs and that's now. I know you're doing that. I will take Kentucky inside the number when you see our picks on CBS sports dot com. I will have Arkansas straight up, but Kentucky plus 5. Eric musselman on a senior day? Inside Tate arena? I don't know what that means, but yeah.

"27th in 2021. Ready for this? Bill self has finished top 25 at Ken pom in 23 of the past 24 seasons at Illinois and Kansas, but his freak was broken in 2021 when the jayhawks finished 27. You'll remember you'll see how this happened. They were 18th heading into the incident like tournament. To USC and it took them all the way from 18th down to 27 that broke the street. It should be obvious. Who are the Gonzaga's good every year? So I'm gonna say you Gonzaga. Mark view has 11 straight top 25 Ken palm finishes. It's obviously about to be 12 straight at Gonzaga. Kelvin Sampson has 5 straight. I'm sorry. Few is the answer. Mark view is the answer. Mark, few has 11 about to be 12 straight. Then it is Matt painter 7 about to be 8 straight and then it is Kelvin Sampson 5 about to be 6 straight. Those are coaches currently in the top 25 at Kim pom with streaks of consecutive top 25 Kim pom finishes. All right, good deal. Big Ten is tournament's going to be it's going to be outlandish. And the fact they're still right now, Maryland, Indiana, Iowa are all 11 and 8. Illinois is 11 8 Michigan's 11 8 northwestern 11 8 Michigan state is ten and 8 Rutgers is ten and 9, Penn State is 9 and ten. Wisconsin's 8 and 11. This is just a joke. Whatever. It's going to get like 9 teams in the NCAA tournament and they're going to have one sweet 16 team. It's going to be something like that. The Big Ten is going to be the first conference ever to get 9 teams in and they send all of them to Dayton. It's never done in time before. This is incredible how this is this is wind up breaking. But hey, it'll be interesting and guaranteed there will be urgency from a bubble perspective for four teams, three four teams when they get to postseason play next week. It's a wonderful thing right now. The Big Ten and here we are final week of the regular season. There's just a bubble games galore. And we'll get to that once we preview the weekend in just a minute. That's what we should do. We should have the last four Big Ten at large is all go to Dayton, have a little big tin tournament in Dayton. I agree. I agree. Antoine Davis did not make history on Thursday night. He's now three points behind Pete maravich on the all time division one men's basketball scoring lift. He needed 25 points Thursday night to tie the record 26 to break it. He got 22 on 7 of 26 shooting from the field in a 71 66 loss to Youngstown state in the quarterfinals of the horizon league tournament. So on a surface level, this is a team below 500. It's not a good team. The season should be over, but there's some thought that one of these little goofy postseason tournaments is gonna invite Detroit and give Antoine Davis. Another game to get. Four more points to become the all time scoring level leader at the division one men's basketball level. We really need this. So before I break into the details of how this could well happen, where do you stand on this? In terms of if it does happen, if Detroit mercy plays in a pay for play, postseason tournament almost nakedly for the purpose of this, where do you come down on that? I come down on, I don't really care. Okay. But I also think, and full transparency, I was asked to write about this in anticipation of him possibly breaking the record last night. That column never got published. I just just sitting there. It's just sitting there. Maybe it'll run someday. Right now, right now I got 800 Antoine Davis words that have that might never be read by anybody other than me and Marcus Nelson. But sort of what I realized while I was writing about it was there is no way to intelligently write about this or talk about this without just crapping over it. Completely. So if they really do manufacture another game to allow him to get this record under these circumstances, it's just another way to crap on the achievement because. He's now played a 144 college games. He needs three points behind Pete maravich, who set the record in 83 games. This is one 44, maybe about to be one 45. At the very least, if he breaks the record, it will take him a 145 games to do it. So Antoine Davis has a chance to be the all time scoring leader at the division one men's basketball level, but he's nowhere close to the type of score Pete maravich was. Pete marriage marovitch was a 5 time future NBA all star. Whoever 44.2 points per game in three seasons at LSU from 1967 to 19 70. So he did it in three seasons, 83 games. It's what Davis is in his 5th season of college basketball. And that's another thing where the context matters. He's only even in a position to maybe do this because the NCAA gave everybody who played in that 2020 21 season, an extra year of eligibility. So he is in a 5th year. And then the other thing that we're context matters, he did all of the scoring at a mid major program that is 59 and 88 since he enrolled. He also considered a transfer after last season. He visited BYU Georgetown Kansas state, Maryland. If he would have transferred to one of those schools, he wouldn't be anywhere close to this because he wouldn't be asked or even allowed to take 22 shots a game. So the only reason he's in this position is because he's played.

"Defensively, the defensive efficiency number according to kimbap is outside of the top 25. So this team is not good offensively and not elite defensively. If you're a low possession team that's not good offensively and not elite defensively, that's how you get susceptible to losing at a place like Boston college by double digits. And it is wild game three. This is game three. Oh yeah, I just have to take them. I just have to take them. Okay, Cavaliers, despite everything I said. I've got the Cavaliers 'cause I gotta go opposite norlander and game three. Not only that, how about we rewind this tape a little bit more. February 11th, Virginia loses if the refs do their job. As a line, he probably makes one. Never gets to overtime. That's an L after that, they barely win by three at Louisville after that. They win by two at home against Notre-Dame. 57 55, and then they get run at Boston college. Heels, let's go. Now there's not an ACC team in the top 25 at Ken pump. Not one. And you got people arguing about whether it's whether the league is down or not. What we thought I went on his show yesterday and he was, you know, making a broader case. Not standing for the league by any means, but there are teams that in this conference that are capable of reaching the second weekend and ultimately, is that what matters most or is what matters most, what the data is showing and how the conference has performed. You can make cases for either more people are going to care about what this league does in March. That's undeniable. I went on a show in Pittsburgh earlier in the week and the host was fired up in defense of Pitt in the ACC and everything. And he was like, you could say whatever you want about the computers, but let me ask you this question. You put North Carolina in San Diego state on a neutral court whose favor to win that game. I was like, San Diego state, easily. He was like, you really believe that? I'm like, it's a fact. Yeah, if any of the state would be a favorite over North Carolina on a neutral court. Yes. Not only do I really believe it, it's 100% true. I can get you a number on it if you need me to. People are wild. You got Virginia. taking the cabinet. You're probably going to be right, I'm done. Gave four. If you lose at home, if you're North Carolina and you lose at home in a zero quarter one win center, to a Virginia team that just scored 48 points at Boston college. Then you deserve you deserve everything you get in. Game four, Saturday, 10 p.m. eastern. Number 15 saint Mary, that number 12 Gonzaga inside the Adam Morrison athletic center. You can watch it on ESPN Kim pom has it. In the kennel? Gonzaga minus two. Brendan and the chat goes, I lost track of the pod when I noticed GP's reflection in the window. Now it's all I can think about. There is a little ghost situation going on right now. This is the sun came out. You again, you underestimated the rotation of the planet. I'm not, I'm not properly, I'm not properly accounting for the rotation of the planet. When I set up this shot for the podcast, it really is susceptible to buildings and clouds and rotation. I can start a podcast. I can start a podcast with no glare. By the end of it, you just staring at my back. Multiverse theory and play right now. Someone earlier said, they thought they were being accepted because they could only look at the at your back and not your face right now. Too good. Absolutely. Look how bad my posture is. Oh, it's horrendous, dude. Are you kidding me? I need to sit up straight. You're lurching. This is but you know what, when we became the first college sports podcast to ever go to video, never forget that. We were the first. We knew these things could happen. And we prepared for them all the same. Give me zags in this one. Did happen to catch up with Mark few earlier this week, talk a little bit about this, a little bit about some other stuff that I'll have later early March, call it. But he said saint Mary is this team. Judging off of what he'd watched on video and obviously having played him the last time, he feels as though the level of toughness this group is and he said this in a complimentary way he's like, they are so stubborn. They are going to run their stuff, go at you, pound it time and time and time and time and time again on the offensive end. They're just going to run their stuff. And we have to do our best to stop it. Hope we get a little bit lucky in terms of just how frequently they are going to pound it inside and use their bigs. And then, you know, mahini went hot at the end of this last game. He was bad at the first 30 minutes. We'll see what Aiden Manny can do in enemy territory here. But Mitchell Saxon is like, you know, he's a really, really good big. Alex ducas can shoot it from outside from inside. They've got the ability to kind of lure you in, get you into the paint and then kick out and shoot well. Saint Mary's is defensive first team and they are going to Bruce. They'll bruise you up. No doubt about it, but they have enough on the offensive end with their three point shooting to keep it interesting. I'm going to go with Gonzaga. This is drew Timmy's senior night. I would expect he hasn't said this and I haven't heard this as like intelligence or anything. I would expect this is his final go round in that building. I'm not seeing Gonzaga drop. It's final game in the kennel with actually you know what? I'm wrong about that. That was me. That was me. Although I wonder if they're wrapping up my mistake, I inaccurately thought that this game was the last game on the regular season schedule for Gonzaga because it is the final WCC game, but because they only play 16 league games? They scheduled one more prior, I guess the WCC tournament Chicago state coming in next Wednesday. So maybe that is the senior night. I don't know. But regardless, they're not losing their final league game at home with Timmy on the roster. I will have the exact bulldogs winning and covering. The thing that I agree, I guess I am assuming, I guess, at this point, drew Timmy is in his final season of college basketball, but I know you know this. But name image and likeness is something that could get them back in theory could get him back to school. Like he's not a first round draft pick, he might be a second round draft pick. Maybe he gets a two year guaranteed deal, maybe he gets a two way deal. There is a world that exists now where he can, again, theoretically make more money playing basketball Gonzaga. Next season, then he can make playing basketball anywhere else next season, and that's I'm not saying that guarantees he's going to be back, but it's at least something that if he's not thinking about or considering he's being a little short sighted. It's a conversation that has to be had. I think you're going to see a lot of guys who you assume. Well, they got to be done with college. And it's like, no, they can make more money, playing college basketball than they can playing professional basketball. So they're going to continue to play college basketball. Yeah, I mean, listen, I think with the number comes out, it's going to be more than two. It'll be like Gonzaga minus three and a half or something like that. Just 'cause basically against any, I think against anybody. If you don't make Gonzaga is in the kennel against anybody and you only have to wait to, I would just take that. Literally

"Right, so we're gonna pick this game. Nick Smith. What are we gonna, you know, next myth is this is a big moment for him, frankly, you know, having come back just a short while ago, and another potential top 5 pick, Arkansas, has not been a reliable team on the road. You said it was 8, I will pick Arkansas. We have picked all these, by the way, check out that CBS sports app. We do have our picks also on the site. We try and make the picks on the pod match the ones on the site. That doesn't always happen. So adventure for you. Full adventure. You know, I think last week I had on the podcast I had Kentucky plus four and on the site I had Tennessee minus two. Let's play in the middle. It was funny was I think it was last week. We're gonna give the semi occasional shout out to Seth Davis, dedicated podcast listener. And he sometimes, you know, texts us over the course of listening to an entire episode. Yes, Seth, we're putting it out there. Because you know what? We need people to know you're all in on the show. And I think it was last weekend where he was like, GPA GP, I agree. You took this and you were like, no, I didn't take that. Now, he's like, I listen to the show. You just picked me. So even then, after the fact she's like, no, I don't think you got it right, Seth and says, I just listened to you. You did just pick this thing. Whatever you want. I don't know what I'm doing. So that in mind, I will take Arkansas inside of that number. I expect this to be a pretty competitive game. Again, Alabama would have lost a South Carolina. They go back home, Tuscaloosa will certainly be an interesting scene, but give me must raise her backs to be inside of 8 points. This could be a game that features the two the first two college players selected in the 2023 NBA draft. Brandon Miller at Alabama Nick Smith junior at Arkansas, both are coming off monster games, Brandon Miller got 41 points, as you know, at South Carolina. Nick Smith coming off a 26 point effort against George. I think Alabama wins the game. I will take Arkansas to cover. Numbers a little too big. Arkansas plus the 8. Game two, Saturday, 2 p.m. eastern number 8, Texas. At number 9 Baylor inside the hook center. You can watch it on ESPN Kim pom has it. Baylor minus two. I will go. I think this is the toughest of the 5 on the board. I will say Baylor responds, gets it done. The defense man, I don't know if

"This advantage in the standings, it's now set up for marquette because the next three games at home against depaul on Saturday at butler next Tuesday at home against St. John's on March 4th. That's three sub 95 net teams. Put simply, marquette has a loss to a sub 95 net team all season. They haven't lost to a team like they're going to play in these final three regular season games. All season. Kim pom has on favor by at least 8 points in all three games as long as they don't screw this up and take a loss unlike any other loss they've taken this season. Marquette's going to be your outright biggie's champions after being picked 9th in the preseason biggie's poll after starting 76th at Ken palm. They're now up to number 11 and it's why not only is Shaka smart going to be the obvious big east coach of the year, yeah, you're starting to have a national coach of the year race that seems a little wide open. Bill self is a part of it. Shaka smart is a part of it. Matt painter is a part of it. I think Chris Collins is probably going to be a part of it somewhere. There's a lot of good candidates now, but Shaka smart loses three of his top four scores is pick 9th in the big east and might win an outright biggie's title. That's a good, that's a good place to start your argument. John Fanta interviewed Shaka for the biggie digital network after this game. And Shaka gave a good little anecdote. So a year ago, in this game, Mark had a creighton marquette was up late and it fumbled away the game and Shaka benched colic, Tyler down the stretch. And then Shaka revealed on Tuesday that they had like a real heart to heart like kind of vented all out moment with each other in a healthy way. And Shaka said, after that, he determined internally, there were going to be no more games in which Tyler colic was going to be on the bench in a close game late. That would not happen. It hasn't happened. And then what did we see on Tuesday night? Cola hits the winning basket. His bucket with 28 seconds to go was proved to be the difference there. And he was a major factor. Marquette also at one point was able to keep creighton scoreless for like 6 minutes. It went on a 13 O run, it just swung the hammer right back in the second half and marquette's been known for its defense. It's been number one and number two and points per possession for most of the past two plus months. And it was really the defense that came out. What kind of connecting marquette in Kansas and a couple of ways. I'll also say that both teams are proving to win in a litany of styles and fights, which is a very good sign if you're a fan of either of those teams because you don't know what kind of components you're going to get in the first round second round. If you get to the second week in the tournament, you want to have more than one or two default settings, if you will. And I think marquette showed a little bit more with all that. Great and fans. I know you're a little bit up in arms over the ending of the game. I'm just not here for it. I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong. It was a well played game. It's in your bar and marquette played well in the second half. You know it did. I know you wanted a little, you might have wanted to whistle there and not want to whistle there. I get all of that. But just tip your cap and move on. You still can win the biggie's tournament. That's the wonderful thing about the big east of season. I can not wait to go to this tournament, man, because 5 teams could viably win it, and then even nova winning that Xavier, we until this week, none of the top four teams in the conference had lost a home game in league play and then lo and behold, we wind up seeing it happen with marquette knocking off crate and then nova, which never play spoiler in the new big east. It goes in and handles a shorthanded not handles, but it winds up escaping and winning over a Xavier team that isn't at full strength there. So some big east is worth the watch every single time. And we'll get to this in just a second. When we proved the night, but there's yet another one there's yet another one that's awaiting us here on Wednesday. I think that pretty much covers most of what most of what we needed to get to on Tuesday. There were some other stuff, but one last note, I'll deliver it to you in the form of a trivia time. Sometimes I just sit around and I sort date it, Bart told her dot com. If you do it for the past month, so let's say January 22nd to February 22nd. Who's the best team in the country? A and M it's not true. A and M is 6th. And it's Houston. Not true. Houston is. 15th. You keep, you keep moving the goalposts on me. 15th. Okay. That surprised me tonight. That surprised me too.

"Is it a bigger deal? What's the bigger story coming out of that? Is it connected to Kentucky or connected to Tennessee? Yeah, I'll run with the theme of the episode and I just, I feel it is Kentucky because Kentucky is now removed drama from its circumstances for the time being. Go win at Florida on Wednesday night and even further put yourself in the field and then this won't be an every game kind of live or die situation there to get the season sweet but Tennessee is significant, not just because Kentucky now can be projected comfortably in this field and improve its situation while cats feel like a strong 11 to me at the moment, I guess. But even more than that, if it gets back into the group of the four to 6 teams that feel like they've got the most viscosity to their at large viability, then Tennessee's sweep will amount to I'm thinking it's got to amount to something that no other team in that hypothetical hypothetical would have GP. Two wins over a team that will be probably on the three line or the four line at that point. So I think it's a bigger deal for Kentucky for Tennessee. It's coming off an interesting week. It wins at home, clearly against Alabama does so shorthanded. And then again, goes to Kentucky shorthanded, no Josiah Jordan James is available. Tennessee fans know, although he is not the outright stud that was at some time thought he could be. He's a very good role player and then Julian Phillips, who's a starter, also not available. You know, you trade it off. You didn't need him to beat Bama. You needed them to be Kentucky and you didn't get it done. Tennessee is now lost three of its past four. Four of its past 6, if you enjoyed our Saturday quickie response pod to the bracket, we both thought the Tennessee was too high on the overall seed line. I think it's particularly too high now. I know Tennessee fans have a little bit of an issue with that. It's not that against your team. I'm just looking at the overall resume here. And the fact that the offense simply, it's interesting what Baylor is seemingly showing us on the defensive end. And it's major holes. Tennessee is the opposite of that on offense and it's shown itself plenty of times there. And now it's got to turn around and go play against the team that's looking right up at him and one game behind him in the right below them. No, right up at it. I'm sorry. A and M is second in the SEC. Tennessee because of the loss is now three games behind. Like, it's almost unthinkable here that the vols are in a spot where they would be three games behind the team in second place, but that's where we are. Good job by Kentucky to get itself just in a little bit better of a spot, but both of these teams are going to follow up that game with roadies in the next two to three days. Yeah, I want to be clear. I'm not speaking for all Tennessee fans. But some Tennessee fans with Twitter accounts. They point to their big wins because they have big wins. I mean, they got one over Alabama went over Kansas in a win over Texas. They've got three wins over projected top two seeds according to the selection committee. As of yesterday. And then they look at third in the net and fit that Ken palm. So they say we're fit to Kim pom third in the net and we've got three massive wins, maybe nobody's got three wins as good as those. So what are you telling us? We're not a top ten team or even at least according to the top 25 and one as of right now, top 15 Tim. The problem is the other stuff. Like your Kim pom number and net number, that's part of the evaluation process. I guess your big wins definitely part of the evaluation process. But just part, there are other parts. And the lost column is a big part. How about this? Tennessee is now three and four in quadrant two games. Under 500 in quarter two, just scrolling through it. They are the only top 40 net team in the country. Below 500 in quadrant two. And if you just look at some of the other teams that Tennessee fans have been comparing themselves to, like, the best teams in the country. Let's just go through the bracket reveal seating. Alabama. Zero quadrant two wins. I mean, I'm sorry, zero quadrant two losses. Houston, zero quadrant, two losses, although Houston does have a quadrant three. Kansas, zero quadrant two losses, perdue, zero quadrant two losses. Baylor, zero quadrant two losses, Texas, zero quadrant two losses. Virginia, zero quadrant two losses. Arizona, one quadrant two. You get the point. All these other teams have zero or one, Tennessee has four. Quadrant two losses. This changed overnight when the net rankings update him, but at the time that Tennessee Kentucky game went final, Tennessee had 6 losses to sub 35 net teams. And that's at least two more than literally everybody else in the 8 people. Now, because Kentucky moved into the top 35, it's now four, but that's still just as many as anybody else in the a people and more than almost everybody in the 8 people. So that lost column is becoming problematic. And like I wrote in the top 25 and one on Sunday morning, if you're trying to figure out because Kentucky's Tennessee probably has the most all over the place resume in the country right now in terms of great wins, but head scratching losses. What it tells me and a lot of this stuff is they're great defensively and not so great offensively. And do you see they like four or 14 from the free throw line? Yeah. Shot it terribly from the field, terribly from three and it was imaginable. But they do this all the time. They do this all the time. And what it tells me is that Tennessee is good enough when it plays well to beat anybody. It's not hard to imagine Tennessee being in the final four.

"In Austin, I think I asked you this about Alabama a and M because it's interesting. Top two in the SEC top two in the big 12 close the regular season against each other. And I think I asked you, do you think Alabama takes in final game of the regular season for those two schools will be for the SEC title? And you said no. And I agree with you. I don't think so, except oh, by the way, Texas a and M winning in Missouri and one. That's the game we a game, we both missed in the final four and one. So I agree with you. I think Alabama will have that one that League One by the time we get there. But you know, we'll see. Yeah, Alabama just put George on probation over the weekend, by the way. Peter by 49. What did I tell you after Alabama lost Tennessee? I said, Georgia will pay for this. In Georgia, Georgia pay for it. The Alabama's now got two SEC wins like by these types of margins. They beat vandy by 50,000. I think it's 57, I think, was the number which again is unbelievable. I always round up to 50,000. And then beat Georgia by 49, which of course rounds up to 50,000. Alabama just smoking people. I think they'll have the SEC locked up by the final weekend of the regular season. Same question differently. Is Kansas at Texas regular season finale going to be for the big 12 title? It is going to be for a share of the big 12 title. Here is your schedule. Kansas at TCU. We will get to TCU in just a little bit here. They need to be noted with what they did over the weekend and we will get to horned frog fans. Then Kansas is home against West Virginia, home against Texas tech at Kansas. That's two in one at absolute worst. Texas meantime. Got into a real fight in the mud with Oklahoma and one 85 83. That was in Austin. And now, Tuesday night, home against Iowa state. Obviously winnable, but Iowa state can win that game. And then it's at Baylor at TCU if Texas can go two and one in that spot. It needs to go two and one and then Kansas has to lose at least one. I think it will be a free share. So Kansas can win the stand-alone big 12 regular season title. And I think when we get to Saturday March 4th, Texas will be on its home for playing and I don't know how the tiebreaker would sort out that way because Kansas because Kansas already has a win over Texas and then they'd split. I don't have the league tiebreaker scenarios in front of me right now. So that's my prediction is they will be playing for the chance. I don't think they will have the same lead record on March 4th. I have it. I actually played it out and have it exactly like that. I think Texas, I think Kansas won't go into that game with a one game lead in the standings. And it'll be Kansas wins outright big 12 champs. Texas wins, co champs. And as it pertains, and I know you know this, but just for clarity sake for people listening, as it pertains to tiebreakers in the league, that will just be to determine who's the one seed and the two seed in the big 12 tournament. They will, no matter what the tie breaker says, if they finish with the same league record, Kansas, Texas, or anybody else, you know, there's other schools that aren't out of this yet. You know, they will officially be listed as co big 12 champions. If you finish with the best record in the league, whether you lose a tiebreaker or not, you win at least a share of that big 12 title. And big Monday on Monday night is Jeff mason. Good Kansas at TCU. I think Kansas Kim pom protects gains as like a one point favorite in that game. But I'll be interested to see what the books do with that because obviously Mike miles junior is back and he's a real difference maker for that team. We'll get the TCU later on. That's the situation in the big 12. Awesome win for Kansas. Baylor, I think I flip flopped Baylor in Texas in the top 25 and one. Put Texas ahead of Baylor, drop Baylor one. I've never going to punish a team harshly for losing it Allen fieldhouse given that that's just about the only thing you can do at Allen fieldhouse. And now the weather expect partly cloudy skies with an excellent chance of maximum refunds. Wait, that can't be right. Oh, but it is. Who are you? I'm April. And we

"Similar to Willard, what we talked about earlier, what they've been able to do when year one and flip expectations. It's been good to see. All right, rest of the weekend, God. I'll rip through this quick, then a quick news bite to wrap up. The bracket show, 1230 eastern Saturday on CBS, the once a year, top 16 reveal, I will be interviewing the selection chair at 1 o'clock on CBS sports headquarters if you'd like to watch that as well, Chris Reynolds is the AD at Bradley. He's a selection chair this year. I talked with him real quick on Thursday. There were 20 told me there were 20 teams that were in discussion for the top 16 seeds, and as usual, committee met on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and then dispersed Thursday late afternoon as it does every year. But there were 6 games that were contingency plans based on losses. So frankly, Purdue was in a different spot in the bracket when the committee left, and they had a contingency for, okay, if Marilyn wins, I don't know this to be the case, but let's say Purdue was the number one overall seed. It will now not be on Saturday when that happens because now it just doesn't have the resume to justify that. So again, 1230 eastern on CBS shows to Dave warlock, who does a great job with the NAA. He sent out this tweet on Thursday. He said, since the first one began in 2017, we've done this every year since 2017. 65 of the 80 teams in the top four seek to see lines of peace, 65 of the 80 remained either one, two, three, or four seeds when the real bracket came out. This used to happen a month before selection Sunday, but with the Super Bowl getting pushed back a week. Now, this gets pushed back a week we are going to be 22 days out. When this comes in as I detailed in my power rankings this week, every single time we have done this and even applied to the year when we didn't have the tournament, if you looked at the projections, three of the four teams on the top line remain on the top line selection Sunday, but always they're every single year, one team has been swapped out and the team that gets swapped out falls to the Sue line, not worse than that. As we head into Saturday, did you look at palms projections if you kind of look broadly Purdue, Bama, Houston, Kansas, are kind of irrefutably the top four seeds. Like those are going to be the one seats I would have to believe. Purdue could have fallen, I guess, theoretically, that might be some of the drama there now. It would take in the loss against Maryland. But if it is those four Purdue bam a Houston, Kansas, one of them will drop out and be a two seed history suggests over the past 6 years. Any quick thoughts on that before I just give a quick tour of the weekend. Well, real quick. This is something just popped into my head over the past couple of days. Because I did look at your power rankings. You have Houston number one? Yeah, I figured they gotta be okay. I'm trying to reward the teams that are just playing well and haven't lost. Actually, it was, I hated having to put someone. No, you don't have to justify it. I have Houston number one in the top 25 and one. Houston is number one at Kim pom. Here's my question. And I'm asking this from an honest place. I don't know the answer. I'm not smart enough to understand it. I'm asking this from an honest place. Is there a flaw in the system somewhere? Because here we are, February 17th, Houston's number one at Ken palm. Last year it was Gonzaga, a year before it was Gonzaga. Past three years, the number one team ends up being a really good team. From a crap conference. Is there a connection between those things? I don't. It's a good question to ask, and I think a lot of people are quick to pounce on that from a cynical point of mind. I don't think so only now, it's a valid question to ask, because Houston is comfortably in first place. And adjusted efficiency margin in compound. And it's not ten times. You look at any predictive metric, Houston rates is the best team in the country there. But, you know, it is based off of the collective college basketball universe and thousands of non conference games and how these teams have performed against each other. And, you know, I know organ's not great, but it is rates as a top 50 team in Houston went in one of that game by double digits. And saint Mary's, even if you don't think it's a top ten team, even if you think it's like, okay, maybe I'll even say it's a top 25 team, which it still was able to beat saint Mary's, and that's another highly ranked team. It was able to go in against Virginia. And when that game by 8 points. So there's been enough in the non conference and it played Bama close. And it's, you know, it's played 26 games in one 24 of them, and it has been able to, yes, just destroy a lot of inferior teams in its own conference, but to your question, we have had a recent spate here of dominant teams in leagues that just don't rate in the top four or 5 or 6 in the country. Is there inherent flaw in that? Maybe there might be some tweaking that needs to be adjusted, but I do think that Houston is viable one of the three or four best teams in the country. And so I don't have an issue worth where it falls in. Yeah, let me be clear. Real quick GP went to a final four and then last year knocked off in Arizona team that was as hot as just about anyone. No, let me be clear. If I had to pick a national champion today, I would pick Houston. I think Houston's great. Again, I don't know the answer. But it's hard not to notice that for three straight years now, the quote number one team in the computers is from a correct conference. Yeah.

".85 points per possession. What do we think it's going to do? Hostile territory, what do we think it's going to do to Kentucky and rap arena? Tough one. All right. Kentucky got the win against Mississippi state on the road. Little ugly, who cares? You got the win. You needed it. Now, can you respond wildcats? And get a second straight win here. And in doing so, just vault your resume because a loss and you're still you're dancing on the bubble. You're sitting right there on the fence. This way or the other way. I am gonna, you said balls minus four, that's obviously the Ken palm line. Well, that actually be the line for Caesar's when it comes out. I will go, I will go Kentucky to cover this line. Just shame me if we hop on the Sunday pod and we're talking about Tennessee win this game by 12 points. Because I should know better, but I'm going to trust that Kentucky is going to show up ready to play Jacob toppin. We'll have another really good game. She Wei will be up and running and a plus on the floor. And they will get good guard play. Case and Wallace, ready to go. You know? I'll take Kentucky to cover plus four in its home building in a very urgent spot. Kentucky fans are living and dying with every single game here. This is a tasty one. Give me the wildcats. There's obviously been some big results over the past couple of nights. I don't know that anyone is bigger for a coach than John calipari winning at Mississippi state. Like they really, really, really needed that. That was a nice win. Here, yeah, I'll take Kentucky plus the points. I think in our official picks on CBS sports dot com. I can't remember. But I think I took Kentucky to cover Tennessee to win. Yeah, I did. Yeah, that's what I did. Tennessee to win Kentucky to cover, but I'll take just like getting four points inside rup arena with a team that was pre season number one at Ken palm. It's just hard to turn that down. So I'm not gonna turn it down. Game three. 4 p.m. eastern. Number 9 Baylor at number 5 Kansas inside Bill self field House. You can watch that one on ESPN. Kim pom has a Kansas minus four. Baylor, ten and one, and it's that last 11, you can make the case. Kansas has been tremendous, but you can make the case over the past 5 weeks. Baylor has been the best team in the country. Developing as was a common suspicion amongst national media heading into the season that daily might have the best three guard attack in the country and between flagler crier and George, that is becoming the case, if not the case. And this is the kind of game where if Baylor is able, it's able to go in to build self fieldhouse and get a road win I think we've talked about in the pod and about Baylor national title contender. This is the team. It's been a couple of weeks now that we've been talking about this team kind of returning to form and Jonathan chambal chacha, getting not just playing time, but the Latin even shoot from deep and he's four of 9 for three point range so far since coming back from a brutal knee injury. By the way, CJ Moore wrote a really good story. Czar actually wrote two really good stories for the athletic. If you have not read them, do check them out. One is on Jonathan chambal and then a really, really good story. He wrote a couple of weeks back on KJ Adams, who is among the more entertaining players in the country, just a super versatile power wing and so go check those out if you haven't read those already. I really hope we get just an awesome classic jayhawks bears game here GP. This is game three as a reminder, but as another reminder, you don't have to follow your own rules. I'm going to take Baylor to cover. So I've got Kentucky at home being plus foreign covering. I'm gonna take Baylor on the road being plus four and covering this spot, but on the site, I'm gonna have Baylor covering, I will take Kansas to win, let's hope this one has decided, you know, in the final couple of possessions there and what should be a beautiful, beautiful game. This is obviously the best match of the weekend. Okay, this works well for me. Because I'll just lay Kansas for under inside Allen fieldhouse basically every game. But. It's got dru with the drew family is listening. I didn't want

"But broadly speaking, I still believe in this team. Second in the top 25 and one behind the only Houston, it is a team I can very easily see myself picking to go to the final four. But it is on a short list of concerns. One of the concerns is if you can get blown out by Oklahoma, you can lose your second round game, even if you're a one seed in the NCAA tournament. And that seems to be on the table for Alabama. Last thing for me on this, Arizona feels like a cousin to Bama in this regard, beat by 15 at a Utah team that's not going to the tournament, got beat by 13 in Tucson by Washington state, got rolled at Oregon back a month plus ago, and then had the weird super weird loss at Stanford last weekend. So Arizona is another one where zona and Bama they're very fun teams to watch. They're among the three to 5 teams that I'm most eager to watch play almost regardless of the opponent. But there is this thing about them where they feel as likely to be playing on the first Monday of April as they do to be getting bumped by an unsuspecting victim in the sweet 16. That's all. I'll tell you who is also a cousin to this Tennessee. Tennessee is similar in the sense that now the Tennessee thinks a little easier to understand. They're great off the great defensively shaky offensively and when you are when there's such a disparity between those two sides of the ball, you're going to run into problems every once in a while. Because though you can hold Alabama at a 59 on a night where Alabama is not playing well, you're not going to pull everybody in the 50s. And so Tennessee right now just to hammer home this point, wins over Kansas, Texas, Alabama. But also losses to Colorado, Florida, Vanderbilt. UT has three wins over teams ranked in the top ten at Ken pom. And 5 losses to teams ranked 40 or 30 lower. At Kim pom. And four losses outside of quadrant one. I tweeted this. Did you say, I don't know if you saw it. If not, we'll trivia time. All right, let's do it. There are only three schools in my top 25 and one right now. With more than three losses outside of quadrant one. I just told you tennis. Just quad one. Outside of everybody else in the top 25 and one has three or fewer losses outside of quadrant one. There are three schools that have more than three losses outside of quadrant one in the top 25 and one. Tennessee is one of them. The other two, let me cheat and just look at your rankings. Is it detailed in your lead? No. Okay. All right, let me look here. Okay, scrolling down. More than three outside of quad one. All right, not Houston. Not Bama. We just talked about them, certainly not Kansas. It is not Purdue. It's not UCLA. You can start outside the top ten because I don't have any any of these teams in the top ten. It ain't Mark Kat. Ohio State men's basketball team defeats Penn State 106-74

"Start about discussing Ohio state because the Buckeyes beat the absolute crap out of another quality opponent this weekend. Final Score Ohio state one. Oh six pin state seventy four. So that's a thirty. Two point win over a Penn State team that entered the game ranked twenty third at Kim. Palm the lines are now twenty six which means as of this moment Ohio state has three wins by at least twenty points over top fifty Kim pom teams and according to Hoop Visions Jordan sperber the rest of the country like the other three hundred and fifty two division one teams combined only have three wins by at least twenty points over top fifty Kim pom teams which means Ohio state has already done something three times that the entire rest of the country has only also done three times just incredible so Ohio state is now number five offensive offensive efficiency number two defensive efficiency number one it can palm number two it's Sagara number two in the CBS sports top twenty five and one norlander. Yeah I think you and I both knew it would be good because they returned some key pieces in Chris. Holtman is excellent. Did you think they'd be this good. They are killing people and now again again number. One Akin no not even close to not even close. Maybe that's a little too thick but Yeah Jordan Stat. I re tweeted. We did that on Saturday. That's that's a really really good one And in light of what the Buckeyes were able to do. Just wipe the floor with Penn State thoroughly and I you know that was a secondary TV game. But I did have it on. And then it was extremely impressive and Caleb Western has been the star of the team to this point in the season but you know as we mentioned on the On the Friday podcast they do have more than just him and digit carton is really coming. He's coming into his own I I like so much of what he's been able to do. So yeah I mean this is the best when I said that it was the best team in the big ten. And you said are you gonNA pretend like mark turgeon doesn't exist. You remember when that happened. I vaguely remember that. Yes and then remember how Maryland should've lost at home to Illinois and really had. We're not going to dedicate anytime on this podcast. That game because it was hideous Maryland had no business beating Illinois. Did you happen to catch any of that game. By the way they were down. Big Big big and I was stressed out because have a real impact on the twenty one but then a Anthony Cowan got going down. The stretch in Maryland escapes win is a win is a win win is a win and I am. I am driving the Cowan bus as you. Well know and on that note I was happy to see it but but Maryland Illinois will get their due in time to come but yeah that just reinforced my belief that right now Ohio state is clearly The best as team in the big ten and according to some metrics operating as the best team in college basketball right
