"All with her complete dominance right now and like this is a team that's found a way to to give themselves a chance. You know now how this is going to withstand in a series. You know we can talk about out as as we head into this week but a really impressive just phoenix across the board like it had nothing been given to them. They've gone out and just completely earned it and it has not been pretty. It's been really gritty. And i think they've really taken care. rebounding numbers which has always been my big question mark with his team. So yeah i mean they the the the key faces of this mercury Mercury team did what they needed to do. And i think you know then you have tarazi in overtime. Elimination game in like she does what drowsy does. And she's just continues to show us that our rachel the hot seat before we move onto the sky. Lynx game you don't have to break it down with games and whatever but we ought to say mercury ace's in how many ooh haven't even had a chance to think about this like just why this great off the television gut reaction a five now. I'm gonna go aces in aces. Five nieces and five. I like like you make me make this call right now. I haven't even had to channel. We'll update it episodes as before the series when we actually episode just breaking down the series but but this this is just a gut reaction thing. Honest i'm gonna go hot. Take because we're talking about the as i said before but i'll stick with my original guests rachel a manigault mercury and four. Wow okay okay. I think there. Is there something in the water. Brittany griner is playing. That dominance you know if a lot of it comes down to the health of making it to the finals. Okay and the and the that is the crazy part and i think you'll be a really good final series. I just i feel like this might be the year that they finally have everything clicking at the right time. Maybe i'm falling for it again and again and again as we always do with the burglary but hey whatever you know what the high of that win all right moving onto the next game chicago sky. Go into minnesota First-quarter looked like the game was going the links way. Second quarter adjustments from. James weighed in the chicago sky. They take a four point lead going into the half and they do not look back pulling off the victory before Let's end this episode talking about the sky and what they did to win it. Yeah i'm from minnesota my biases are out there in in clear like i am probably harder on the links most people. I'm i don't want to take away from the. We're talking about this for them. So i want to take away from the skies win but so many preventable turnovers from the links so much so many things that this was not the links team that we had seen since the beginning of the year. I know a lot of that goes to the skies defense. Let's just talk about what fell apart for the minnesota lynx. And you'll probably have the ability to talk about your favorite position. I mean it's just clarendon was missed greatly in this game for minnesota. I just wanna go ahead and put that out there. I think if you are asking aerial powers to make decisions with the ball in her hands. She's not that player. she's not that player. she wants to go get her. She wants to go get a bucket. Polish powers finished the game. You know i think it was a leading score. Twenty four points ten for twenty one from the field. Six turnovers from efficiency standpoint minus ten So you're asking powers to come in here and make decisions in. The ball is in her hands late in the game and i think we saw especially in that second half. The ball was not moving. There wasn't a whole lot of flow to offensively. I mean you talked about minnesota starting out this game. They simply had seven shot attempts that first quarter crack me ensure echo minnesota wins out of the game finishes twenty. They're leading after the first quarter. Twenty three to twenty two so fouls ends up getting a lot of touches. The game plan is pounded inside. Pounded inside. I think minnesota had a really good advantage chicago in interior. I don't know who can really match up with thousands. I mean you have to look at dawson was honored times. Obviously kim's parker but you don't fouls getting only nine touches is really disappointing whether you want to credit chicago or you wanna talk about how there was no true facilitator out there on the court. I think really hurt minnesota. It was really. It was really hard to watch that second half. I'm not gonna lie. Kim mcbride finished with nineteen points and efficient for seven from the fields. I think nothing mcbride did what she needs to do. Knock down some shots. I just felt like you needed a little bit. More from nafisa collier You know obviously we're talking about you. Struggled model running finishes three for eleven with eight points. I mean to do big. Those threes were big and they came at times where i think if you're links fan. 'cause i was on the phone. I stepped at the time. You were pissed off during those those shots because of how she's been shooting the three all season but too big. I mean we gotta talk about how late in this game. The team found a way. I completely agree with you on. Malaysia cleared in was extremely missed. I mean this was the type of game that you look at rachel man on the crystal dangerfield and you expect them you coming off the rookie season dangerfield. Had you expect more coming off the season she had this year. You expect what happened but to not get any semblance of a a viable point guard from banham or dangerfield this whole game and not like that was what you're talking about right there. Honestly i would like see bridge. Carlton get a little bit more play Just in general. I felt like it was tomb. It without having a facilitator everyone reverted into hero ball where they all wanted to be the hero. And because sylvia fowles is so fricking nice and maybe to her own disadvantage. Wasn't you know. I'm not going to like criticize her leadership. So i don't want anyone take this the wrong way but in the sense of sylvia fowles isn't has an. I've never seen her be that type of leader. Who's gonna pull you know a power as a mcbride in and say. Hey guys you need to feed me the effing ball because if not we're gonna lose when you feed me the ball i'm gonna get mine and you're gonna get your. I mean case in point there was there was one play in the fourth quarter powers and sell coming off the pick and roll. Game sim so roles. Ball goes into still double team is drawn. 'cause she's gonna demand so much attention defensively is able to kick it out to mcbride for a wide open horse. Three you know and that was one of the very few possessions for the ball was really shared in that fourth quarter you know and so it just unfortunately minnesota just didn't have the whatever whatever you wanna.

"Dr theresa perry. Who said you were Teaching and experiencing really great things systems. You're creating with black kids and you ask great questions so essentially go to school. Get your doctorate until of think about that. So i did and then came back teaching and so and capacities for the last almost twenty years. Now which seems like astounding. I've been in schools now. I work with pre service teachers at an independent school and still work with young people in the summers now sort of one step removed but has stayed pretty true to Making sure that lack kids and other kids of color have access to literacy and can practice literacy and really powerful ways that's awesome. It's funny how you know. And this has been a common trend of guests on the show where you all didn't start off in the teaching rome wanting to be a teacher for whatever reason but it it's kind of like it pulls you in and i you know as much as you want to fight it it pulls you in and it's so fulfilling i think about myself i was the opposite. I remember being that cousin in my basement because my basement was set up like a classroom. Who does that right and so it was set up like a classroom and so when my cousins would come over. I was the teacher grade. Their papers with like red pen and we had the carbon copy papers Sheets and i would grade their papers and so of course. They didn't really want to hang out with me. I had to be about seven or eight years old. And i said i'm going to be a teacher so it's always interesting to hear the stories of how You all started in another path and then went to be these amazing educators that are impacting so many lives of students and teachers as well. So thank you so much for sharing that. And i know dr kim parker you said that You're not necessarily in the classroom but even in the summertime and just you know what you're doing with students for the both of you. Are you describe your classroom. Yeah and i mean. I think it's so interesting to sort of think about where i started teaching of where wear evolved. Because i would think when. I first started. I was coming out of of started teaching in charter school so it was very much about like discipline and control and it was only really once a started to do my dissertation work to think about Literacy right it's Social the with the ways we perform literacy to be in service and in responding to the world around us to understand agency into really think about if. We really want to be collaborating with young people than i had to change my practice and so I'm never so much wedded to what i'm teaching much more whether to. Who i'm teaching and so that looks different. Whatever whatever capacity were gathering I think that. I work really hard to listen to them to think about where they have passed sort of negative experiences and trauma. And how can we work through that and really what does it take to create positive literacy environments with kids who For many cases in many cases have had awful experiences teachers. Not the haven't really been able to read books that they choose And so you know. I think when you get to a point where you can like you know like you know. You're stop then. You can sort of think. Really deeply about what What's the lasting impact of the relationship with kids your building and then to go from there so i do much more listening now than i ever did. It's taken me a while to get there but also to think about like how do you co construct the space with kids and that's different every single time but it's also the most.

Classifying these workers as essential in the or trying to make sure that people get the returns. But you know, there's a new twist story. Yes. We're talking about how many what kind of a percentage of workers are showing up. Do you think? Well, it's not today question. So the Trump administration or sixty percent of the workers back starting next week, but people who have not gotten pay now for over thirty days, and my colleague Daniel, the cat, and I talked to IRS union leaders across the country who said that you know, somewhere. It varies by city between twenty five to fifty percent in some places. Seventy five percent, and others are not workers are not returning created a question of the Trump administration thinks that it can minimize the damage the shutdown by ordering these aid workers to process returns. But if they don't show up how effective GP it. Sure. And these workers have a legitimate legal explanation for doing. So there's a hardship exemption, which they can miss work. They've been cleaning. And they really are under a quite a bit of a lot of these people can't make childcare payments on can't Josh. I talked to one worker who. Can't make a parking ticket payments. They need to get to work. So that's a huge question the country right now, and I would imagine obviously there's going to be a practical effect if we are filing early and not getting any results because there's not enough manpower woman power to get these tax returns processed soon. There will be a little ground swell of anger for those who can't get their returns. When they want him. I think that's right and understand your husband Salako fifteen returns out, and I've talked to some people who said, well, maybe they can extend it. But then apparently federal law that they can't you need a change from congress. So I mean, that's obviously a. Who knows at this point? Yes. I think when people's returns get stalled, maybe a lot of anger. I'm not a questions about viability, which I tand moving forward a lot of anger on both sides of workers who aren't getting paid and those who are wanting to get their returns. It's a great story covered. It very well. Jeff, thanks so much for being with us today. You can read the entire piece at the Washington Post.
