"It's always movie related nobody the last one. I am just really amazed that that didn't happen. So a fifty dollars gift certificate will go to the winner of that trivia contests question, if you have the right answer and okay? This movie. We'll make it quite dizzy. And it has one of the sexiest women in the late fifties. And sixties that was on the screen. I'm going to give you her name because you're going to have to research this because this goes back to San Francisco, her name was Kim Novak give me a mechanisms easiest possible for you. Give me the name of the movie, it's gonna make you dizzy that has Kim Novak has the actress, and I also need you to tell me her co-star her male co star. Okay. And the correct attribute Glenn you a fifty dollars gift certificate from Donna mills Mexican restaurant. The best Mexican food in San Francisco. Every woman not Lucy. Leo three women. They the Ramirez sisters are owners, and they are wonderful, ladies, and they cook you up a good meal too. So again, what is the name of the movie that has the sexiest woman that I think on screen at that time Kim Novak. What's the name of her co star? And what's the name of the movie the title that's gonna make you dizzy? So again, a fifty dollars gift certificate. That's all you need to know. And you don't want to have to get some shutouts. Okay. "I let me say a little bit more about the perspective thing. Yeah. Wouldn't you really try to get in the head of Jimmy Stewart? And you're seeing what he's seeing in this woman. It's so different from what we actually learn is going on what he's seeing what he's imagining, and you have to wonder to what extent we all suffer from this exact condition, right? Where we perceive somebody a person in their circumstances and their situation, and we're projecting a story onto them and personality and an identity and in this case it's being deliberately manipulated. But sometimes it might not be deliberately manipulated and were. Were still not able to really discern what's going on. And we are trapped in that. And there's a sense in which I mean, you said it when you said Jimmy Stewart is is us. But there is a sense in which we are. We're all in this condition of being a prisoner of our perspective, and this movie brings out the extent to which that just sort of generalizes to multiple levels. Yeah. And a prisoner of others perspective on us of us. Yes. Exactly, which she becomes when. Right when they meet again, and she's Judy this time. Yeah. And I don't know if I'm reading. Into it. But I think Kim Novak does or Hitchcock or whatever does a great job of actually romanticizing Madeline so much that she seems like this. You know, whatever goddess this ideal goddess. That even when Judy becomes Madeline in appearance, again, she never quite gets back that that shouldn't say CuA theory kind of. Yeah. Only in that scene where she's ghost, Trish. It goes like appreciation. She retained this perfection, right? And then you're right back to maybe it's because we saw her as Judy and we can't get back. We can't undo what we know of her as Judy or maybe there's something actually in her performance where she doesn't have that same affect tation that that she had his Madeline. But again now seeing it from a different perspective. We're not trapped in his perspective any more we're now in her perspective. And so we, you know, maybe she hasn't look any different except we see her differently now. Yeah, that's right. And you get the sense that this is this is Jimmy Stewart's orgasmic moment when he sees her as apprec- in forest. Flit second. He is happy. That's the perfection. That's the that's the necrophilia moment. That's the money shot money shot. Money shot. Shut right. Yeah. And I think it's deliberately meant to be orgasmic as he sits. Right. Yeah. Yeah. No, I, and I think that that's you know, that's what's philosophically fascinating about this movie is the extent to which were all implicated on a number of different levels prisoners of other people's impression of us and prisoners of our own impression of other people is an inescapable part of, you know, our experience, right? And she's so much wants the Judy characters so much wants to be loved for who she really is for Judy into self. Yeah. For for Judy and and he's. You know, not only doesn't love her for being Judy. But, but, you know, just love some some idealized version of and you know, like, she's clot as Kim Novak as Judy right? Like, she's got her. You know, I think she's made to be a more. Buxom kind of beautiful woman at that point. And it's just so not what what he wants that. It's comical, even though it could be what a lot of men might want. But it's so not, you know, I think they did a good job of contrasting the Judy and what she is in the the her accent. And her the way she dresses when she goes and dresses in that purple, which I guess it just seems wrong. It seems certainly seems wrong to to him. But you know, we've been we've been so. Yeah. Like it. Just like, no. She shouldn't be in purple. That's like the it's. Yeah. I mean, that's I guess that's the thing that to me makes this movie great is I I there's so much to think and talk about and so many I I would watch this again next week..

"And this is I think what people are pointing to this sort of auto by graphical way in which Hitchcock seemed obsessed with with women. Yeah. And in fact, he kind of creates the perfect vertigo. I mean, the perfect Hitchcock woman. It's almost seems self expressive or cathartic perhaps or something it seems like Hitchcock is is taking his his very very personal obsessions and laying them bear in this movie. I don't know if that was his intention at all. But I don't care. I think it's true. Whether he intended that it's funny because there's a lot of meta like I herald. So I was about to Kim Novak one it had her own ideas about what her character should wear and Hitchcock that they got into fights onset, Hitchcock was is. I I've been planning for three months the things that you'd wear for this in the color scheme. And that's you know, they had a they had a troubled relationship onset. Although I think it's sometimes overblown just how troubled it was. But it's this idea that Hitchcock is dressing her up to be what she needs to be for him. And just the way that Jimmy Stewart is doing that. And and and Kim Novak in some some interview that I read in an a couple I think she she mentions that throughout she was fighting against Hitchcock's, and she thinks kind of successfully. So that sh- she says that you can tell in her character that she was resisting Hitchcock's manipulation of her in that this came out in judy's resistance of being manipulated by Scotty, which if true is is a pretty awesome. Pretty awesome way of frigging bringing that sentiment from real life into into your character. There are a lot of other meta aspects that I wanna comment on. But but I'll save those sort of towards the end. I a back to Jimmy Stewart. The one thing that I learned from this movie's Jimmy Stewart appears incapable of making out he's a horrible Kizer. My daughter said to yes. Looks like like like an like an awkward. I don't know just like they don't kiss they like press their faces against each. Yeah. It's so weird weird. It just does not. So Barbara Bel Geddes who plays midge. She's a character. That isn't in the book. What do you think her importance is? And I think there's a scene which is maybe the saddest scene in the movie that she's centrally involved in and the one I saw this the first time, my mom took me to it's gotta be like nineteen eighty three or eighty four when it was first released, and I and I remember that seeing vividly from then which. When she makes a painting this self as Carlotta Valdes, and he says, oh, no, this is funny. And then he they were going to go out for dinner and a movie, and he immediately breaks it, and and she starts. You know, she she realizes she made some kind of miscalculation. Although it's not totally clear why he had that reaction or it's very jarring seen actually. When I watched it twice when I was watching the movie last night because of that just to see his his it's not funny. It's not funny. And I could see where he's coming from where you know. This woman has has essentially you had to save this woman's life. She's possib she's possibly still suicidal and she's asleep stable, and it's just not a funny joke. But it's also not a joke. Right. I mean, she's saying I wanna be your object of obsession not a port and shouldn't be portrait it should there's an actual person right here. It's an actual. It's actually very weird looking painting. It is really creepy. I mean part of it is she looks. She looks like a a person like a real person who has real understanding and the the portrait and the way that Kim Novak plays car Lada slash Madeline. Is of just a distant Visu. When they're not real people. I think that that the role that midge plays here is an injection of normalcy almost as a proxy for for an audience member..

"In the most exactingly minute of ways i'm no longer convinced that there's any inherent value in it or if there is if wisdom springs from the experience of terrible loss it's a wisdom one might do without him and that's the movies lie about that all right yeah and here's a movie that doesn't lie about it i think and yet it's just a hitchcock thriller on the last time i saw vertigo and when i say justly hiscock throw i mean all wild commercial of mainland the last time i saw vertigo it had been a few years i four or five years and the my the the overwhelming impression and god was just how crushingly focused it is on one sold poor souls the three cycles of horrible horrible talk about a guy who's stock grief and then and you know i don't want to give of one of hack through the plight of vertigo again for people but james to replace scotty ferguson who in the first minute of the picture loses his partner on the police force in of the sort of dizzying fall from uh from a gutter on a rooftop could have saved him if he hadn't been stricken with you know at least this movie's visual idea of vertigo which is a leads to a you know this long long recovery and then of course this obsession with this woman play by the kim novak we hired trail anyway in a it's a famous film it's an infamous film in that so many people don't believe it belongs on the number one slot of that site in the sound poll um but i i tell you if you disregard get rid of the.

"Interesting to turn to a poster by the end of the film after sketch book and you have a whole kind of bank of ideas images concepts and then you kind of just see what flows to the top talking about subcommittee like an lavin toro we wanna use monica vidy verschoor we know that going in and then you kind of shucks to pose her image with some of the themes you create a design that comes about from the themes and you let the the concept determine the execution on my try to let the concept determine if i want to illustrate or use photography or make something really abstract in crazy looking or something very beautiful in lovely and having a certain mood or tone in so you kind of left the concept of the poster determine how it will look for world to buy lead against him her to go was such an it's probably the most iconic poster of all tied i would say assault bass i really loved the chance to rebrand a movie that has such a famous poster because you get to go in a totally different direction and with this one you know in the saul bass you have the man the protagonists falling through the the spiral but really the film is about it is much about the women as it is the man and i wanted to play with the duality of the two female characters who are both played by kim novak you don't see that all of the posters that have been done for the film back in the day so i thought that would be really uh.
