"He's got three second place finishes in a row. We'll hear from Alex today's show as well with this weekend being Memorial Day weekend. Nascar, we'll be showing respect by honoring fallen soldiers on each of the race cars in the six hundred while highlight a few of those on today's show as well. We've got all that, and a whole lot more. But to get started. Here's Kim Kun with this week's social media news. Gimme the talk of the town on social media has been Clint Boyer and Ryan Newman's desktop following the monster energy NASCAR all-star race. Here's how it sounded on the motorist network that we have got a fight that has broken out on pit road. Clint boy or went to Ryan Newman's car and was wailing on Ryan Newman. I let's get Clint side of the story. What happened in west Mark those frustrations? Honestly, I have no idea Xing. I know. Beat nam after the race turns me into wall where I come from that deserves punishment enough. And now let's hear Newman's version. I'm not really sure what happened in fourteen their other knee losses. Cool and you still trying to figure out how to drive his I don't know. I don't know why he cut across my nose there after we'd hit. I exchanged a little bumper tap with them after the race because he coming off earlier in the race just about turn me and him around on trial, but just just offered any body slam me obviously, he's got some aggression issues, but they need to cut across my nose and turn three in crash himself. So I mean you can look at the data and a stirring, trace and everything else, I don't know. I'm sure he doesn't know but I'm sure he's got assigned to well, both divers. They're not very happy with each other. And I guess that's what racing for one million dollars. We'll do to you the coq six hundred will take place on Sunday. Be sure to check it out as our friends from the performance racing network will have the coverage. I'm Kim Kun? "We're looking back on some of the best of NASCAR live. When April rolled around. Kyle Busch in number eighteen team turned up the heat by winning three races in a row. Oh at Texas at Bristol. And Richmond Kim Kun caught up with Kyle in early may to talk about his early season successes. He wanted Texas. He wanted Bristol tonight. He will win the Toyota owners four hundred and Richmond raceway in Virginia. It seems like the tides are turning a little bit. I was at Talladega last week. And I noticed during driver intros. It seemed like there were more cheers than booze and for somebody who seems to embrace the haters and actually feed off of it and use that as motivation to perform how was that for you seeing that kind of tied turn it's interesting for sure it's it's pretty fun. You know, just the way that came into the sport wasn't so fun. You know, but the kind of see the changing of the guard, and what kind of happening behind the scenes and with the fans and stuff like that is is pretty fun. And so I think they're kind of taking maybe a different stance here as of late, but also kinda maybe just gotten used to me being around for this long and. And maybe that could be some of it too. I got to talk about the deal during your broadcast. You know, I it was such a eye-opening thing to listen to. And I wanna know though, what's the response been from fans from people in the industry, or maybe you're drivers that listen to it after aired? Just a little bit that I've gotten his obviously all been positive. I mean, there's still some that. Maybe ten percent of the people that still are like, I'm not changing my mind. He still is who he is still, blah, blah, blah, whatever. But you know, ninety percent of the guard actually thinks that well, you know, maybe I'll I'll give them a different high or I'll give them a shot or whatever. And so it's kind of interesting. But Dale, and I we we've been talking about doing that for a long time. It just kind of finally came to fruition. And the idea really stemmed off of the ten year anniversary of Richmond. But you know, he, and I had a lot of ideas of trying to do some some different things through the off season that we just never never could really put it all together and finally Davis, Mike Davis got involved in and made it happen as nice as it is to mend fences. Don't you think sports are kind of designed to pit athletes against each other? And so there needs to be a sense of mutual respect. Yes. But rivalries, are what fuel sport. Yeah. Absolutely. No. I think you definitely have to have the the white hat and the blackout. I think that always happens. You know, you you look at guys Yankees and Red Sox, right? You know? And I look at like Broncos and in the raiders or something like that. So, you know, you always kind of have those in the NFC east of the most notable probably is they all hate each other. Right. So, you know, it's pretty fun to just kind of see how those relationships have all been how those things kind of changed throughout sports throughout years of sports, and even throughout the players, the players aren't the same as what they were back in whatever day in and so it's kind of interesting how that goes. And you know, it just kind of seems as though in racing you have the same thing, you know, you had petty versus Earnhardt Earnhardt versus Gordon, Gordon versus everybody Johnson versus Gordon. It seemed like you know in there. House. But I it's kind of fun to to see those those those things happen and progress and they have to happen naturally. You can't force it you force it and becomes fake. You celebrate a birthday recently. What would twenty eighteen Kyle Busch tell maybe two thousand nine or two thousand ten Kyle Bushra a lot of things one of my most favorite lines even back..

"Be in trouble. Maybe as we had to round number a race number three in this series and Kim Kun last week at Las Vegas. Four drivers in the playoff crashed out three others finished. At least a lap down. And Brad Kazlauskas red hot those guys don't want to have to get the next week at that Roble, depending on that for their playoff lives number playoff drivers in Vegas almost like you mentioned. And I don't think anyone inspected that when it comes to Vegas, nobody considers it an unknown or something we're half, the playoff would have issues. But that's what happened and something they are expecting a very challenging race next weekend at the Royal at Charlotte. So a number of divers have said it's going to be a race of survival next week. You do not want to be near the the bubble or in desperation mode. When you hit the. Next week in Charlotte. So not means you want to win tonight at Richmond. I mean, this is going to be one of the most action packed Richmond races. We've ever seen the bottom. Four drivers right now. Jimmy johnson. Chase Elliott Eric Jones. And Denny Hamlin said those guys especially wanted to have a good solid night. If not a win. And you know, we spent a lot of the season talking about playoff points in stage wins and things like that. This is where the guys who have built a lot of those up during the regular season may have to depend on them to advanced around number two. Absolutely. I mean you look at Kevin Harvick last week. He finished thirty ninth. And he was one of the guys that had the most playoff points built up in his piggy Bank, and those certainly working in his favor for this round. But again that doesn't mean that you can flack off too bad weekends in a row three weekends in a row, regardless of the playoff points. You have built up could certainly mean your names out of the hat for the championship. All right. Let's catch you up. Now what's been happening in NASCAR nation with the latest? News motor.

"Flag pit road is open we'll see if we. Have any takers next time by Dan the field right now behind the pace struck coming into turn number eight and the interest of pit road is between. Turns nine and ten but this be thirty. Two laps remaining this afternoon and that, means this could make things pretty interesting on strategy depending on who you talk to the fuel window is anywhere between. Thirty and thirty three laps we've got a, sixty four, lap race here could they make it well on paper Yes they. May need some help precautions and stage breaks or whatnot but let's see who's a taker and who is not no aggression stays out so. Tunas Justin Haley as they pass pit road exit. Cody Coughlin comes in so two Timothy Peters Johnny solder comes down let's companies pissed off now I had a new house a lot of people on the. Radio or waiting until the last minute they. Said we're gonna base these pissed off But I? Talked, to the guys over and they said we're bringing this time. We cannot find the balance on the racetrack he's loose, on the last tied. On the right so a chassis adjustment coming down compared. To his other GM estimate what that team, calls for Kim Kun. How about in front. Of. You Timothy Peters and they're. Going to take four tires to Nokia and try and get full to the end, of the race of the original In fact this caution felt perfectly Timothy meters they were trying to make it a one-stop they're gonna try and stretch. It and, go the entire way also in grant in finger. They're gonna take, four tires Sonoko fuel likely this'll be their last stop as, well so a couple of playoff drivers Johnny solder and grant, n. finger take the opportunity to. Stop you heard Kim mentioned Timothy Peters who doesn't have to worry about the playoffs or. Things of that nature and and also a stop coming here for Cody Coughlan.

"The corner and Kim Kun that. Could. Be a critical factor today because we've, had the, tire dragon during the week all kinds of practices truck race then overnight a massive storm comes through and watches all the. Rubber aware yes we had severe weather here last night the track and. I was actually, talking and Clint boy enjoy Lugano earlier this morning and they could not believe how bad. It storm they said their motor coaches were rocking the tornado sirens were going off and of course like you mentioned, that, also means that all the rubber was washed off the race track so. We're gonna have a green racing, surface when we start here in. A little bit sunny and warm right now however and that's going to be a little bit different than. What. We saw at least when we got here. Final, practice yesterday was similar. Conditions so the teams hopefully you'll be a little bit dialed in with the exception of, the rubber being gone absolutely we had overcast skies here on Friday yesterday yes the sun was out remember, we had that I practice The fog practice kind of a throwaway anyway there's not a lot they, can learn, it was very rudimentary so they really essentially if you think about it only had one practice to get their cars race ready and that's what they'll be facing when we get green today, now as we move, into the, race there, are four events left before we set the sixteen driver playoff. Field. And there are some guys who have, some work, to do normally we're talking about bubble scenarios or scenarios if you prefer but right now there are some guys who are. Not quite bubble worthy shall we say there's not really a bubble so. Essentially the drivers, outside of the playoff picture need to throw hail Mary they're kind of grabbing at straws. Looking for a win and we're talking guys like Ricky Stenhouse junior Paul Menard denotes whereas who has had such good, runs, this season and for the guys that are already in the playoff picture. Outside of the big three they're, looking for extra playoff point so. They're hoping for a win to because a win means five extra playoff points when we go green on. The. Playoffs yeah and the good news for the. Rest, of the guys outside. The big three both Kyle Busch Martin through ex junior came in here saying yeah we're not that good, at this track Likely see. Them. Running up front so I'm only going to take that with a grain of salt okay let's get you caught up on some of.

Lineup for the go bowling Thirty seven drivers set the fire the engines and get started here. At, Watkins Glen international another sell. Out, the fourth straight at this. Track and let's head upstairs down to the gentleman who will guide you through this. Afternoon's broadcast Joe Moore and Jeff St. thanks Woody Kane and Kim Kun yes, it is a sell out. We're watching the folks file into the grandstand here in and. Look for their seats it's not something we've seen, a, whole. Lot this year at. Various race tracks but it's quite the. Process there is all these folks are coming out of their seats you look out over the campground here at Watkins Glen Jeff, it is completely pack you, couldn't squeeze another camper or tent. Maybe not, even many more people into the infield here had a chance to talk to the track president here at Watkins, Glen Michael. Print up this. Morning and, he could not be happier of course he and his. Staff, very, proud, of what they have built, here over, the years Jill and you're right campgrounds sold, out, grandstands. Sold out he said we had a couple Tickets if somebody wanted to come. And sit on the grass they've done that for good reason Joe this place is electric, in the racing is spectacular over the last, few years it's, been spectacular at Takata stuff we talked about, during our practice coverage yesterday it's the kind of ration- you talk about for days and weeks to come it's that. Good, here at Watkins Glen the. Weather, is helped out a whole. Lot to you know what's a perfect weekend temperatures on the warm side eighty seven. Now going to about ninety degrees today but the fans are eating it up, the drivers and the teams. Are excited and of course we're coming down to the end. Of the regular season so that adds another hole, twist, of. The thing well Woody. Came I thought said it perfectly thirty-seven. Drivers getting ready to go okay only sixteen of those drivers are going to ultimately race for a championship that means about half, the fields got to try, to figure out a way to. Win the, race easier said than done Joe you look at guys like Paul Menard you look at guys like AJ all, Medina those. Guys on the. Outside looking, in looking at this This is. An, opportunity maybe their last opportunity to steal a win. And race for a championship. Not every racetrack is really offered. Like that for the drivers to look at. It it's like maybe I can do something different and win yet a superspeedway. Fall in that category Daytona Talladega. Everybody, knows that they all have a fair chance because, something can work in their favor on a road course as well pitting strategy you'll hear us talk a lot, about that here today in every crew chief down their nose if they make. The right calls if the cautions fall correctly they could actually steal a. Win in this race absolutely they could and when. We, wrap up, here at, Watkins Glen we'll be down to four more races. Until. We begin the playoffs on very different race tracks so we've got the. Road course here at Watkins Glen, the two mile high speed oval at Michigan by the way that is coming up next. Week. Then we go on the shortest racetrack, at Bristol Darlington then to Indianapolis so very different racetracks obviously Joe somebody's, gotta figure out at least Number of them have to figure out a way to, go to victory lane soon there's a lot of good road racers in the NASCAR. Garage these days there was a time when it came to a road course and the ringers came in. You know now you don't need ringers anymore you don't see Boris saids Ron fellows and guys like that these guys have. Honed their. Skills over the years with two road courses now three this year with the robo coming up. At Charlotte later the season there's. A lot of folks who, know what they're doing on a road course and. Of. Course learned. The tricks of building these race cars to, where, they handle their balanced out there to go right and left the best of them all happen. To be the big three.

"You can and kim kun yeah that that the keys to winning here i think obviously there's a lot of things you can talk about but the main key and it's always been that way at daytona is the draft working the draft but in order to get the draft to work correctly rusty wallace you have to have somebody to draft with and therefore we were talking earlier about the the prerace politics that goes on down to the garage yeah i used to do a lot of politics and before the race start i did a lot of it right there drivers introduction some of the drivers meeting where i would actually goes some of the drivers that i trusted i'd pick about four six say hey look man we get lateness race can i trust you to help me out then they look cannot trust you to help me and i said yes it okay i'll remember that you a little politicking with other drivers to kind of gain their trust that you could use them in the race at different points in time that you can trust so that's one of the key things guys drafty come up with a good partner i know you already got your teammates and stuff like that and a lot of our chevrolet alliances afford alliances are tell you what have you but still you want to sit down and talk some of these guys and feel comfortable with them number to work on the car so you can hold this baby wide open as much as you possibly can up this track is going to get slick you're going to be slipping and sliding all around and sometimes if your car is not handling you can't maneuver you can't hold a wide open and you're not gonna win the race if you do something like that and my final one my third one is look you better be a magician in my opinion tonight with like fifteen laps to go know lolly gagging around in the back of the pack this data rex est up fifteen go you better get hauling and get up to the front get yourself in a position to win this race because if it's much later than that i don't think you can get to the front of maybe you're hanging around mid pack or something like that we all know the draft is gonna do a lot of things but we see too many racist now daytona here and telladega guys have hung in the back and they run out of time getting to the front and the other thing about this race rusty you've always called it an opportunity race why i call an opportunity race because of the draft the draft is the great equalizer i call it you can have a car that maybe your team or whatever is not so hot short tracks road courses intermediates but when you get the daytona everybody seems to have pretty good motors everybody has pretty good aerodynamics and the draft is the great equalizer so if you didn't qualify that good man you get that draft you can pick up four or five miles per hour and all of a sudden you're in the hunt you're in a position where you can win your first race i call up the opportune race and i know you guys do too i also called the great equalizer and a lot of those drivers down there that have been on kinda struggling not having good luck require that now this year joe as you well know his belong to the big three harvick bush and true actually when we talk about an opportunity race there's a number of drivers joe big named drivers that have to win here if they've got a chance at the championship and i'm talking about jimmy johnson brad kozlowski denny hamlin the list goes on and on and on it's a level playing field it superspeedway racing here at daytona and guys everybody knows it's equal opportunity for everybody well joe thanks for that those are some of the keys to winning today brought to you by progressive but what something stood out to me recipes point of making friends and politicking for the draft easier said than done especially when you're talking about the closing labs in a win is up for grabs and you have no friends that moment i love know lolly gagging get up on the.

"What he can't alongside kim kun let's head back to the grid now we've heard from a lot of drivers but people don't even standing by with joey llegado crew chief todd gordon now we know what joe he's gotta deal with inside the car with the heat what can you do to get this race card run better in this heat needs conditions todd yeah it definitely the tires get the race track it's so hot and especially in the sunshine if it clouds up little bit it'll change racetrack some but in the sunshine racetracks slick tire where you'll you'll see a lot of laptop fall off to start with something you'll just tire tyre pressures lower you know for the longer runs but you run into situations where if you start these things as low as you really want to do that you you jeopardize tire actually carrying the tire from the inside on the first few laps and then you'll have tire failure so we have to balance those pieces out but definitely even the crew guys pit crew guys stress to them staying us on getting high hydrated ahead of time you know my team meeting this morning was about you know get hydrated and get cool early don't wait till you get hot because you can never recover from it well you're going to trade in your crew chief responsibilities next friday night and work with us in the end booth with xfinity series race there at daytona kind of prep what you're doing for that i'm going to have to study the study the the whole gamut of what's going on in in how that racing all works i've i've watched it from afar but i need to do a little bit of prep work good airplane ride a study and and obviously i've got i've got some drivers around here they can tell me how the expanded your as down there runs really well hydrated for that too yeah thanks all right that's dot gordon zeevi.

"This is nascar live now back to mike bagley welcome back to nascar live last week we heard an exclusive interview between kim kun and ryan blaney here's the second half of that conversation with this week's nascar live face to face interview when you look at the field of cup drivers you seem to be one of the drivers that's got a lot of personality at least one of the drivers that shares that personality with the fans be it your love of music your love of movies your huge star wars fan how do you think that's helped you connect with maybe people that weren't fans in nascar before yeah i think you know that that helps when he can relate to the fan i think that's what any fan wants is just to see who you are genuinely and you know if they like your ni that's something i've always tried to try to do just not be someone you're not i think that's that's not even relating to fans or anything it's just got a anybody and yeah i i think know some drivers are more want to be a little bit more private than others and that's something i've never really i don't look down on it by any means but i think the more you can relate to your to your fan of this show that you're a person and not a robot driving racecar it's it's it's good so i just say just be yourself and how much of that you wanna share not i get if you don't wanna share it but i'm becoming more open as a person as you get older you know when you're younger we're in i was younger i i didn't talk to anybody or or i was very kind of by myself and i get new you know you get more comfortable people honestly i'm kinda more comfortable talking to strangers fans than sometimes talking to now when we have luncheons at penske didn't up on stage and talking you just get nervous so i don't know why that is but now i think it's great and you know the fans have been great back to me and being very supportive which is which always makes you feel good you do a lot of things outside of driving race car a lot of stuff on the entertainment side what's the coolest thing so far in your.
