A highlight from 672:North Koreas Russian Crypto Strategy & Indias Dollar Rejection

"Why do tacos get their own day of the week? Is it because Mondays are so rough, we need a Tuesday filled with beefy tortillas shared with good friends? If so, why don't we have Wellington Wednesdays stroganoff Saturdays, and heck, beefball Mondays? Then Mondays would just be another reason to enjoy our favorite beef with our favorite people. Together, we bring more. Beef. It's what's for dinner. Funded by beef farmers and ranchers. Good evening, and welcome to the Crypto Overnighter. I'm Nick Ademus, and I will be your host as we take a look at the latest cryptocurrency news and analysis. So sit back, relax, and let's get started. And remember, none of this is financial advice. And it's 10pm Pacific on Sunday, September 17th, 2023. Welcome back to the Crypto Overnighter, where we have no sponsors, no hidden agendas, and no BS. But we do have the news, so let's talk about that. Tonight we're diving into North Korea's cozy relationship with Russian crypto exchanges. Are they laundering money, or is it something far more sinister? We'll also look at India's ambitious plans to cut the dollar out of its trade equation. What does this mean for the future of fiat, and how might it impact the crypto landscape? Then we'll discuss the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's stern warning to crypto firms misusing the term bank. And don't think we're ignoring the bankruptcy saga of FTX and their reopened claims portal. Last but not least, some big names weigh in on the future of fiat and crypto. Fasten your seatbelts, it's gonna be a ride. Hacking groups linked to North Korea are increasingly using Russian exchanges to launder stolen cryptocurrency. Chainalysis noted this shift in strategy. The blockchain analysis firm also highlighted a recent transfer of $21 .9 million stolen from the Harmony Protocol to a Russian exchange known for illicit transactions. This move coincides with the summit between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin. UN sanctions monitors are also noting North Korea's evolving cyber tactics aimed at funding its nuclear programs. Elliptic, another analytics firm, reported that North Korea's Lazarus Group is responsible for the theft of almost $240 million in crypto in just 104 days. The group has been linked to five major crypto hacks in the last three months, including a $54 million hack of the global cryptocurrency exchange CoinX. Chainalysis data shows that the value of stolen cryptocurrency associated with North Korean hacking groups exceeds $340 .4 million so far in 2023, compared to $1 .65 billion last year. Despite the decrease, North Korea remains a significant threat in the cybercrime landscape, accounting for 29 .7 % of the cryptocurrency stolen through hacks in 2023. The DPRK -Russia cryptolink is more than just a financial loophole. It's a geopolitical chess move. While the world focuses on sanctions and arms talks, North Korea and Russia are quietly building a financial alliance in the crypto underworld. This isn't just about money. It's about power, influence, and a shared disdain for Western sanctions. Chainalysis and Elliptic aren't just telling us about hacks. They're exposing a growing alliance that could reshape the crypto landscape. Russia's noncompliance with international efforts gives North Korea the perfect cover to continue its operations. It's a symbiotic relationship where both nations benefit at the expense of global financial security. The drop in the value of stolen assets this year could be a smokescreen. North Korea's share of crypto hacks may have decreased, but let's not forget they still account for nearly a third of all stolen crypto this year. In a world increasingly dependent on digital assets, the DPRK -Russia cryptolink is not just a financial concern, it's a security crisis. It's a glaring example of how decentralized finance can be weaponized. As long as Russia turns a blind eye, the crypto world will remain a battlefield where the DPRK can operate with impunity. We've just unraveled the shadowy links between North Korea and Russian crypto exchanges. From one geopolitical chessboard to another, let's pivot to India's audacious move to cut the U .S. dollar from its trade equations. How's that for a change in global power dynamics? But first, if you're enjoying this deep dive, hit the subscribe button.

The Axis of Evil Is Getting a Facelift and It Should Worry Us All

"A dangerous world, America. We've got to be standing back to back and not in each other's face. If you have not followed Kim Jong Un's visit to Russia, you ought to have. And they, the axis of evil is getting a facelift. Putin needs ammunition from whatever Korea makes, North Korea makes. And those two guys are about the evilest people in the world. I mean, there are other evil people in the world, but they're, they're the tie. They win the tie. And we've just got to realize, and if something drives it home, it's yesterday's attack by Ukraine on Sevastopol Navy base for the Russian Navy. Now, Sevastopol belongs to Ukraine. It was seized by Russia in 2014, when President Obama did nothing. And it's long been Russia's Black Sea port. And yesterday, Ukraine used some long -range missiles and some drones to blow up a submarine or another ship in dry dock. And it's one of Russia's diesel subs. It's a big deal. And what it ought to drive home is that we are seeing a glimpse of what the next war is going to look like. It's not going to be the invasion of Afghanistan. It's not going to be the invasion of Iraq. It's what's going on in Ukraine, which is from out of nowhere comes a missile. That's the future. And it's a very dangerous world. And the bad guys are getting worse. And the good guys cannot get it together. And Americans are divided. They'd much rather be in each other's faces than have each other's back. Very unfortunate.

"You don't do that. As a matter of fact, Jim, do you the have Greg the Palcott thing? Play this. This was the Fox story on this a little earlier. This is Greg Palcott from Fox reporting on this American soldier. It's Pan Moon -John. That's the village over there talking about what happened. And he has the same I think kind of questions. Check this out. It is definitely developing into a major incident. is It absolutely a bizarre one. Having been to that area a few times, usually the traffic is from the north to the south. This time it apparently is from the south to the north. A US citizen confirmed to Fox News to the be U a .S. soldier on an orientation tour along the DMZ separating North and South Korea crossed over into North Korean territory without authorization and is now believed to be in their custody. Those details from the UN security force and in charge at that spot. That spot is where it is believed to have happened around where in June 2019 you might recall then President Trump shook hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong -un and did his own step over. Security on that day and most times that we have been there Sandra is quite heavy but the reports we're getting from one of our contacts on the ground there is that ever since the leader Kim Jong -un shut down his country further due to COVID -19 the military presence on the north side what's called the peace village in the border town of Panmunjom has been sparse. North Korea spy satellite launch fails as rocket falls into the sea

"North Korea fails to launch its first spy satellite into space. In parts of South Korea and Japan, residents took shelter after North Korea launched a rocket, which later crashed into the sea. Admitting failure is a setback to leader Kim Jong-un's push to boost military capability amid tension with the U.S. and South Korea, but North Korea is now promising to look into what went wrong and try a second launch soon. Any North Korean satellite launch is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions that ban the country from launches that use ballistic technology. I'm Mimi Montgomery

"Really believed I'm going to talk to these elites. They have unbelievable power and they're going to help bring attention to this nightmare in the world of China subjugating all of these people helping North Korea to subjugate 25 million people. So yeah, when did you get the hint that they're not interested in what you're interested in? They were only featuring me on their platform. They only gave me their platform to me when I was criticizing president Trump. For meeting with Kim Jong-un. Yeah. Not when I wanted to talk about the modern day slavery that was happening in China, not the horrors of communism and starvation. So I thought that was very unbelievable. They say we serve the public. We are informed the public about the truth and global affairs. But the only thing they want to inform the public was that how Trump was not a good leader. So I kind of got some clue, but I certainly did not know how manipulative and how they would like this North Korean state television. They were lying to the public like that. And then I got to meet these people of the record gatherings Nancy Pelosi. I mean, she talks about how she stands for the women. Hillary Clinton, how she cares about women's rights. And telling them, this is what is happening to women. Their organs are harvest out of them. And you have power. You have so many people found. They have engaged foundation and Clinton foundation. Eric Shares His Thoughts on the Possibility of Nuclear War

"What do you think about the possibility of nuclear war? I feel like we had this question a month ago. I'm a begin it. Well, I think most people know that because we're living in crazy times, anything is possible. And I think that, first of all, if you think of Kim Jong-un in North Korea, that guy is a straight up madman, he is allied with China, I don't even think you need to think about Putin, Putin is enough of a malefactor that I don't think he would hesitate. I don't know. One thing I do know, I put my trust in God. I think that we're not supposed to live in fear, first of all, I'm not afraid of death because I believe that Jesus defeated death on the cross. And that by faith in him, we never die. I actually believe that's true. And so I think we should never be scripture says be anxious for nothing. So realistically, these things are possible. We don't know what the future holds. Our job is to do our job, to praise God, to obey him, to live heroically, bravely, freely, and what happens is not up to us. We're just to do our job.

All right, Nathan might be the NFL off season, but the owners meetings are taking place so a lot of football talk, especially after Lamar Jackson revealed he's so upset with his lack of a long-term contract in Baltimore that he recently demanded a trade, he's currently slated to play on the franchise tag jets general manager Joe Douglas was asked about trying to acquire Jackson, he said it would be disingenuous to talk to him the jets obviously hope their quarterback will be Aaron Rodgers, both Douglas and coach Robert Salas saying they are optimistic a deal will get done with Green Bay the draft is in one month presumably a deal would have to take place before then since the jets would likely be sending at least one pick to the packers. Rep. Ken Calvert Discusses the Needs of the U.S. Navy

"Minutes actually ran a story on Sunday Night about the decline in the United States Navy and it's underfunding. Jerry Hendricks wrote a piece in the Atlantic about it this month and finally we've got people in charge of defense subcommittee in the house Ken Calvert to be specific and old friend of mine and he joins me now. It's chairman of the DoD subcommittee. That's the subcommittee of the House committee on appropriations that funds The Pentagon. Good morning, congressman Calvert. Welcome back. Good morning, you. You just got back from the Pacific. What did you find out? I found out that we're weak in the Pacific and that we need to get we need to get to work. We have a lot of things we need to do. Happily, we have allies. Japan is doubling their defense spending. Taiwan is obviously very concerned and we're trying to arm them up get to deterrence and there they need as quickly as possible. And of course we still have problems in South Korea. Because of what's going on in the north and you continuing tests that Kim Jong-un is carrying out. So congressman, you are now chair. You're the guy on defense appropriations and pretty much the full committee will accept what you come forward with. Are you going to remedy the gap? I mean, we have a huge navy gap, a huge navy gap with China. Are you going to help remedy it? Oh, absolutely. I met with the CNO yesterday at McGill day. We were going through that, as you know, we're down to 296 ships. Unfortunately, the navy is asking the fund 9 ships and proposing to decommission 11. It's pretty hard to get our ship numbers above 300 if we decommissioning more ships than we're building.

North Korea launches 2 missiles toward sea as U.S. and South hold drills

"South Korea and the U.S. have launched their biggest joint exercises yet as the north responds by apparently testing submarine fired cruise missiles, North Korea's launch came ahead of the joint drills, but is a sign more missile tests are to come as the south and the U.S. continue their training together. North Korea sees the joint exercises between the two nations as an invasion rehearsal, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently ordered his troops

"Reaching that terminal rate of around three and a half percent, but a Bloomberg survey now finding that the BOK will cut its benchmark rate in the last quarter of this year. That's a little earlier than previously forecast will get trading in a sole underway at the top of the hour. We'll take another look at markets in 15 minutes Global news next, Dan Schwartzman is in the Bloomberg newsroom deno. Dog an international team of investigators say that they are strong indications that Russian president Vladimir Putin the transfer of anti aircraft missiles to separatists in the eastern part of Ukraine, which led to the downing of Malaysian air flight MH 17 and 2014, 298 people were killed aboard the Boeing 7 7 7, which departed Amsterdam and was heading to Kuala Lumpur. The investigators say there isn't enough evidence to prosecute Putin or anyone else and have shut down the inquiry after 8 and a half years. Russia has always denied any involvement and did not did not participate in the investigation. The death toll rising to over 12,000 with another 58,000 plus injured in the deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit parts of turkey in Syria earlier this week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the U.S. is sending rescue teams to affected areas. For the first time in almost a year, North Korea believed to have held a military parade to showcase its growing arsenal and its nuclear push. Today marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the North Korean military as ruler Kim Jong-un continues to push to modernize and expand the range of the country's missiles, and in global sports, Manchester United missing a chance to move up to second place tie with Manchester United or Manchester City, excuse me as a red devil's play leads united to two all drugged Old Trafford, man you getting second half goals from both rashford and Sancho, a real surprise here in France, the Coupe de France round is 16 Paris Saint-Germain knocked out by my Marseille two to one ruslan malinovsky scoring the winner in the 57th minute. NBA scoreboard local teams in action, Washington is home for Charlotte, Philadelphia is on the road at Boston, the Golden State Warriors are at the Portland Trail Blazers and in the NHL just two games on tap one involving a local team the New York rangers are a home at Madison Square Garden for the Vancouver Canucks. I'm Dan schwarzman that your Bloomberg news in sports update, Brian. All right, Dan, thanks very much. Well, Disney CEO bob Iger has announced plans for a dramatic restructuring of the company. Disney will, among other things, cut 7000 jobs, is trying to attain 5 and a half $1 billion in cost savings. Joining us now to discuss this is geetha ranganathan, Bloomberg intelligence analyst on U.S. media. So this restructuring, it's the third under Iger, and I guess the previous two were pretty successful. Adding the Star Wars and marvel franchises, that was a big one. And then developing the online business, what's key about this restructuring detail? Yeah, I think what is really key about this time around in the new transformation is all about profits. It's very, very clear. The first one, when they were acquiring the marble, the Star Wars, the Pixar, that was really about growing the content engine, right? Really kind of empowering all those different content brands. The second one was about building the streaming business, but mainly a focus to getting subscribers. And this one is really all about streaming profits and overall business profits. So obviously bob Iger had a clear mandate to set the strategic strategic direction for improved profitability and I think he did just that. He did. Obviously, markets like this, what are other people what are the analysts making a bit so, you know, of course, here is the thing. So the goalposts in this streaming business have been moving and they've been moving pretty dramatically over the past year or so ever since we had that meltdown from Netflix. But Netflix itself has kind of now really showed us how streaming can be a free cash flow generative business, how it can generate a significant profits. And so I think in that regard has kind of provided a template for investors as well as for Disney, to kind of come out with a solid plan to deliver results. And so I think generally investors are obviously very happy because there is a clear plan now to get to profitability to get to sustainable profitability. They've identified about 5 and a half $1 billion in annualized costs that they're going to be taking out of the business, both in the content side as well as on the non content side. And just the overall structuring or restructuring rather does make a lot of sense. You do have the parks business, which is of course firing on all cylinders. You have the entertainment business, which of course has streaming where profitability is a little bit of a concern, but shouldn't be over the next few quarters. And also which has the studio business, which is again firing on all cylinders, we just saw avatar, cross the 2.2 billion mark. And then you have ESPN, which is a somewhat troubled asset. So kind of just separating out all of those, I think, really helps management and helps kind of investors also understand what profitability will look like for each of those segments. You mentioned Netflix, but this is kind of getting religion, really. I mean, we saw that also from meta in finally trying to produce more profits for Wall Street. I'm curious whether or not any of the assets will be sold. Is there any plan for that or maybe spinning off anything? Is that another way to perhaps streamline a little? Yeah, and that was a question. I mean, this has been a lingering question with Disney for so many years now. And of course, bob Iger was asked this question multiple times on the call. And he clearly said that there is no plan right now to spin off ESPN. There's already been a considerable review done at the company a strategic review. They have decided that it doesn't make any sense for them to spend the asset right now. And if you just kind of look at it, as troubled as it may be, it's still generates about three, three and a half $1 billion in cash flow. And that is absolutely imperative to the business. Considering that they are still losing money on the streaming side of things. And so they absolutely want to keep it. They do have they are the premier sports property in the world undoubtedly. They do have these marquee sports. They blocked them for a long period of time. And they want to be able to extract maximum value from that. And they have a necessarily said exactly how they're going to do that. But I think down the road, we might see them kind of getting a little bit more aggressive on sports betting opportunities and the like to kind of monetize better. Also, I was very interested in what bob Iger had to say about their streaming business and how they could and they could see actually that they could be open to licensing some of their shows and movies to other companies. Now that really does muddy the waters with regards to a content provider and a content platform as it were because the whole streaming streaming platforms are engaged in a vicious competition now and to start being a provider as well does change the game. Well, absolutely. And I think it's definitely a change in the tone and we're seeing this what I would call almost the great media pullback, right? So we've seen so many of these companies now the first they had this all in. Let's go all in to streaming. Let's have a streaming first approach and now as they're kind of looking at ways to generate more revenue, it makes sense to go back to that old model where maybe they can license some of this content to their rivals and

North Korean leader Kim Jong UN has turned down international offers of Covid 19 vaccines and instead insisted he would fight the pandemic in quote our style and quote by imposing even even tougher restrictions on the already heavily surveyed and isolated Country. Did you see that? The that that teacher that got fired out in California for being a leftist than wanting to promote Antifa and all that. But I guess I don't know if it's a he or she had a rubber. I'm really glad that you that you just said that point, Okay because recently Obama's former education secretary, Arne Duncan, Compare people who don't want to wear masks or get vaccinated to the tap or to the suicide bombers of the Kabul airport. If you really think that if you really think it's comparable, then put your money where your mouth is. Which places? Yeah, you have a A tweet here from someone named Tom Elliott. He's talking about the Texas pro lifers or the Texas Taliban. New York flooding cataclysmic effects of climate change. California wildfire. We're running out of time covid more contagious than it ever. And as he says, every story it responsibly hyped out of proportion to terrify people into giving up liberty. Yes, and it used to be how we that even a few years ago if someone told me they didn't really keep up with the news, you kind of look at that and go. Oh, gosh, you know, it's important to keep up with the news. But right now, when people tell me they don't watch the news or listen to the news, they're usually very normal, well adjusted people, you know they're not setting their hair on fire they're not wearing for mass. They're not worried about lockdowns. I really think that the media is just hyping up all the panic they can and what's really pathetic, which I noticed is that When everyone's wondering about what's happening in Afghanistan, like what's happening to these left these stranded Americans in the Strand green card holders. All the people on MSNBC, CNN, The New York Times Vox all these places. All they care about is Joe Rogan has covid and he's taking. I've worked him in or whatever it's called. Yeah, I know That's the That's the big story. And guess what have we here? Here's the key part. I know I said it wrong, So whatever it is, I'm sorry, but here's the key part. He had covid. He had covid for three days. He took a bunch of medication that they're now making fun of him for which clearly worked. And now he feels fine. And that's this big, huge story they're running with instead of American citizens being left in Afghanistan. Right. That's your mainstream media 2021. I know. And now now the number of quote unquote cases of Covid is more than it was a year ago. So you know when Donald Trump was having a lot smaller number of cases it was the end of the world. But I think we should all take a take a beat there because we shouldn't underestimate what he's going to do. Now this was even worse. I was now afraid of the consequences of that curiosity that I might have. Inspired My role there was to plant a seed of doubt. But then what would happen to the student that I might have reached? What do you then be punished? For questioning the regime. Or would he be doomed to a life of unhappiness? I was no longer sure if our truth the truth of the outside world would in fact help them. I adored my students. I called them. My young gentleman. And they opened up to me. And the reason for everything in their world. I never got to say goodbye to them. The horror of North Korea. Goes beyond famine and Gulags. To survive their real human beings have to not only believe in The lies of the great leader, but also perpetuate them, which is a mental torture. It's a world where every citizen is complicit. In the deprivation of their own humanity. Towards the end of my stay, a student said to me We always think of you as being the same. Our circumstances are different, but We think of you as the same as us. We really want you to know that we truly think of you as being the same, but We really the same. Maybe we were at some point. But Three generations of the great leader have now. Happened and For 70 years, the world Step back and just watched. Which to me that silence is indefensible. Lies run so deep there Because the center is rotten and that rotten this is irrevocable. What would happen to my students? Texas man gets execution delay over pastors touch request so a texas death row inmate won a reprieve wednesday evening from execution for killing convenience store worker during a two thousand four robbery that garnered One one dollar and twenty five cents after claiming the state was violating his religious freedom by not letting his pastor lay hands on him at the time of his lethal injection. He literally killed a man for a dollar twenty five. The supreme court blocked henry ramirez execution about three hours after he could've could've executed. He is condemned by fatally stabbing forty six year old. Pablo castro who worked at a corpus christi convenience store ramirez was in a small holding sell a few feet from the texas death chamber at the huntsville unit. Prison when he was told by Told of the repeat reprieve by texas department of criminal justice spokesman jason clark. He was quiet when i let them know. Clark said he shook his head and said thank you very much. God bless you in its brief order. The court directed it's clerk to Establish a briefing scheduled. So amir's case could be argued in october or november. Prosecutors say ramirez stabbed castro twenty nine times during a series of robberies in which the inmate and two women some money following a three-day drug bench. Ramirez fled to mexico but was arrested three and a half years later. Seth creditor ramirez lawyer had argued that the texas department of criminal justice was violating the death row inmates first amendment rights to practice his religion by denying his request to have his past touch him and vocalized prayers. It is most needed when someone is transitioning from this life to the next critter said indoor court documents. Lower appeals courts had rejected ramirez argument in the requests by ramirez. Get the pastor in there and and move forward. Move forward with this in my opinion. That's what needs to happen. Now is what's going to happen. Probably not probably not so in. "Stuff with garrett bowles got old as well yeah and and hopefully does bounce back and Can can put some of that Some of the broncos fans at ease you said a couple of tax on sunday would go along way at doing that So let's let's look at this matchup i mean. Obviously you've been saying it. From the beginning you thought teddy bridgewater was going to be the guy Because vic fangio has got to win these first three games. They're going up against daniel jones and the new york giants. And there's still a lot of question marks around that team all all of that. Combine though I think the giants are two and a half point favorite era. Excuse me the broncos are two and a half point favorites going into that So it's still expected to be a tight game. Do you think the defense has enough to bottle up daniel jones and can teddy bridgewater do what we know ted. He's going to do and just be consistent enough to own win this game at funny. We were talking about this in the sports office yesterday. You know if if it just daniel jones. I didn't think the broncos win this game but the the wildcard is obviously saquon. Barkley coming back from the acl injury and Listed as limited giants practice yesterday. So you know if the giants can establish a run game. I think that will allow daniel jones to relax. And you know maybe Maybe complete some throws against the broncos. But if they can't get run game going or saquon doesn't play Man if this if this secondary can't dominate daniel jones then they're not elite secondary that we think they're going to be right. I mean the the four corners that we've talked all about plus justin simmons increanw jackson. You know sir can darby callahan Fuller i mean. That's just six unbelievable players in your secondary combined with you. Know von miller and hopefully proudly on your pass rush. I mean that's just a recipe for disaster for quarterback who's underachieving then fell career so far like john so i think it all comes down to barclay right if if he plays Plays well then that to provide the broncos problem man if it's really just daniel johns sale. There's no reason no reason they should give up more than fourteen points in this game. And you know what. The the broncos offense has enough playmakers they should be scoring at least twenty one. Twenty four so You know somewhere in that range. Twenty four fourteen is is something that the broncos should win this game by. Let's say looks the old saquon. And then that sort of throws that prediction out the window. And hopefully you know i don't know. Could this just be. The giants started getting the in the head of broncos fans and the and the broncos and say yeah. There's possibility because he was not expected back here for this week one I don't know if that's going to be the case but Hopefully that is Ends up with the week. One win for the broncos The what's your what's your score prediction for that one will You know stick with the twenty four fourteen. Because i'm with you i don't. I don't really buy that. They want thing. It's a little bit more of a mirage than a reality. 'cause you're right as a just a couple of weeks ago. There was no shot. He was playing. And then you know sort of turned some whispers and then when i get that official practice report saying that they want limited bradley jobs at bnp did not practice. It's like oh okay. Maybe we should be reevaluated of of who actually is gonna play in this game and who isn't gonna play this game so again thursday's the big day. We'll we'll get more clarification on both those guys but man if trump doesn't play and saquon doug that could that could swing it. But i gotta go with what i know right now and and to me that. That's the broncos like twenty four fourteen You know taking care of daniel jones and and hopefully taking care of trevor lawrence the following week in holy taking care zach wilson the week of that starting three and old like they need to do. They need to start three insincere. They absolutely do. Well peterson digital sports producer for nine news What are you guys working on. What are you get your eyes on coming up here in the in the in the following week. Yeah you know. Obviously the c. u. a. and m. game is is massive that that'd be A full coverage for our team empower field and see if the the boss can shock the world. I mean that's the game on saturday. Everyone's got their eye on. I mean yes you vanderbilt. All due respect. We'll we'll tune in late night and That game probably at around midnight with eight o'clock kick-off but we'll be all oversee you. Am and of course another big week of prep Regis in molin just won our game of the week for nine news that the big five matchup between two rivals that will be out at and then of course golden skyline have a big game as well. There's some big games out on the eastern plains and Yeah it's football. Football football man will see a friday for perhaps tonight for perhaps that day for some college. And then of course sunday broncos giants. We'll be all over it. And i really looking forward to all that it's so nice to have all of those Those levels of football going again Your game of the week from last week That roosevelt holy family game The you know. Roosevelt roosevelt ran away with that when they look really good. Yeah that was that was You know not state championship revenge. Because of holy family wasn't the opponent and state championship who's durango. But it was like that had been pent up anger since december right like they missed winning a state title by a touchdown and they took it out on on holy family. Some eight nine months later. I mean that was as dominant as gets from one verse. Four matchup and. You know it's september. So am i going to sit here and say roosevelt's gonna win a state title bill a lot of change but in terms of coming out of the gate strong and looking every bit like a favorite. That's who they are so yeah that was That was a fun last week for them and holy family will bounce back but for roosevelt fans. That had to have been an encouraging. Yeah i know it's always good to get that that week one win Coming off of state ceviche lost a little bit of a revenge. Factor absolutely play. Well peterson. thank you so much for joining. Where can people follow you along. Oh that's what i was going to get to will. You're worth my man. We need to become best friends if that report that came out. What did it say. "Is that the right thing to do. Yes we have. We have the tools necessary. Because as i mentioned they want a normal relationship with the united states and if they could see the path to a normal relationship with the united states because that will give them the international legitimacy that kim jong un and his father and grandfather wounded so dearly and so we we could move in that in that direction to give them a path to a normal relationship with the united states but again with that would come the security assurances economic development assistance and everything. They need so yes. We have deliverables to provide north three given only give the fact that a north korea has persisted to retain its nuclear weapons and to not only retain them but to enhance their nuclear weapons capabilities missile delivery system capabilities. And and you know whether cyber whether its chemical whether it's biological pursue those other If you will a weapons of mass destruction that are inevitable to our national security but also through the national security of our allies in the region and is one of the things that's absolutely necessary in order to engage with north korea's having the right team in place you've been on one of those teams and i'm curious to know. Forgive me for asking in this forum but have you been asked to be a part of that team and if you were would you well let me. Just say this. I think the team that the president biden has a very strong team. And i think appointing ambassador soon. Kim as special envoy was a very smart. And i will say this necessary move because ambassador. Kim knows north korea. He was involved with the six-party process. He was involved subsequent to the six-party process negotiation with north korea. And of course he was the ambassador to south korea so this is a very smart but but also very necessary appointment of a special envoy. Who's going to focus on trying to if you will reconstitute a dialogue with north korea. So the ball then will be and it's been in north korea for some time. They have to. They have to respond to that The team is powerful. I think it's a good team. I think we have the We have the tools necessary to pursue a diplomatic resolution to these issues. And i think the key here also working with south korea because south korea with the meetings On the twenty-first of may with president biting between president moon and president biden gave. If you will not gave. But but but but Reinforced the south. Korea should pursue inter-korean dialogue into into korean cooperation with north korea. They could try to reconstitute the you know if you will. The the visits of separated families from the korean war visits of tourists among a reconstitute. Look at building the connecting the roads and the railroads between the north and south. So so south. Korea has a big part of of the initiatives with north korea. Inter korean relations. So it's a two pronged. Approach is the us pursuing the denuclearization in coordination with south korea. But it's also south korea pursuing inter-korean relations to include humanitarian assistance to north korea. That we'll get to the neediest citizens of north korea whether it's food aid whether it's whether it's vaccines whatever that may be so we have a two pronged approach to in total coordination between both sides so i and now we have a special envoy who's focusing on this and the both presidents agreed that we will use diplomacy. We will be flexible On this i think. I think all the pieces in place to move forward with north korea but the key the key impediment has been has been north korea. If they refused to come to the table we can have all the tools. Necessary older deliverables that north korea wants and a willingness to pursue that. But we have to have an interlocutor. And if north korea's not willing to come to the table and indeed if they if they persist on building more nuclear weapons fabricating fissile material building more nuclear weapons and even missile delivery systems and if they should have a nuclear test or a long range missile launch. I mean this would not only be an impediment it would be. They would exacerbate this relationship in these efforts. And i think we would go in a different direction with greater deterrence and additional sanctions so hopefully north korea. We'll be responsive to the united states and south korea as we both pursue in coordination into korean relations and denuclearization and looking at all those humanitarian issues. So we have the players in place. We have the deliverables that were prepared to deliver. But we need to have an interlocutor. And that's north korea. North korea has refused heretofore to be sit at the table with us so we will see in the next few months. Well that's my next question What's what's the window like the time window to that. That would be most conducive to getting this done you know. Jj i think the window we do have a window. We have a definite window of opportunity right now. Personally i think north korea will respond to that window. But i believe that window will close after three to four six months that when those going to remain open for a period of time but if north korea continues to refuse to come to the table and indeed continues to build nuclear weapons and missile to resistance. I think that windows going to close so we so a lot depends on obviously north korea at this moment. And and and if that window does close What do you expect to happen. I would expect to see a greater Nuclear greater deterrence writ large in in the region When you talk about nuclear. I think there's an impetus now to look at the possibility of even introducing and i am the possibility of introducing tactical nuclear weapons as part of the deterrence package For a north korea. that's being hostile. That's building more nuclear weapons missile delivery systems so i can see a significant deterrence escalation where we would reinforce our military capabilities in support of are okay and other allies and partners in the region i could. I would envision additional sanctions if north korea continues to violate u. insecurity resolutions and build more nuclear weapons and missile delivery systems and indeed if they should have a nuclear test or a long range a medium range ballistic missile launch. I think there will be Sanctions that will That will ensue. Thank you so much for your time. Today i appreciate The opportunity to go over these things that are very important details to consider when the us is Looking at improving the situation in that region and south korea's a key partner. In doing that. And i thank you for explaining to us. What's important about this. Thank you thank.

"Put him back just looking at that. The wreck that society is becoming really is Sad commentator. A sad commentary on the state of Affairs Republic if you can keep it And we always kind of knew that the biggest threat to this country into our liberty was going to come from within. We always knew that we were insulated by two oceans. It makes invasion inconvenient difficulty on him Not impossible, but inconvenient and difficult. It was always the smart play by the Soviet Union, and they tried to do it by to infiltrate this country and try and change it from within our enemies. We still have very real enemies. It always cracks me up. When I see these leftist talk about Al Qaeda's coming, they're trying to destroy this country. They're good. They swear this dictator this tin pat Dictator swears they're going to take down. The United States. Kim Jong un is rattling his saber from time to time. I'll destroy the United States. Osama bin Laden in the same way they don't they didn't have to try to destroy the United States. They don't have to destroy the United try to destroy the United States. They just have to wait. The Democratic Party will do it for them from within. And they are working on that when we come back, we have a bunch of amazing audio. Did you know that you're white supremacist? You probably have heard that 10,000 times. Just in the last 24 hours. But members of Congress and members of the media are reiterating that point. The people who tell you you don't say what you want to say, Don't say what you believe It's dangerous for you to say that. Are out there saying really horrible lies about you. Because who's going to call them out on? Well, we will hear on talk radio. But that's it. Andrew McCabe, the president's video that he released yesterday, was was very good would have been much better had he released last Wednesday. But it said upon hearing that he's saying that the president is a master of coded language and the use of dog whistles. And there's no question that in that statement included some of those same references. If you're hearing dog whistles, maybe maybe you're the dog..

"A potential rival forward Kim Jong UN's and it's raising suspicions that Kim Jong Gu and may have once again mark one of his own relatives for death. The new documentary delves into this story and its aftermath. It's called Assassins and the Director Ryan White joins me now. Welcome. Thank you, Madeline. Take us back to that day it was in February. 2017. So what? About four years ago? What happened at the Kuala Lumpur Airport on that day? Yes. So 20 Hong and City I shot the two women that you referenced in the intro approach. Kim Jong Nam As he's checking in for a flight on you can see on CCTV. They wiped his eyes with something it turned out to be. Acts, which is the most lethal nerve agent, and within an hour he was dead and the women walk off camera and go back into quality in poor and were arrested a few days later, and when arrested, they said. Yes, we did that to that man. But we thought we were playing a prank on a reality show. And in fact, we didn't even know that that man died. So it's a totally inconceivable story. Sort of the most. Absurd defense we've ever heard for a political assassination. But that's kind of the beginning of my film is that sort of assertion that their defense is going to be that they were on a reality show when they pulled off this assassination? It is really incredible. It's really hard to believe that this is true. But I guess my first question is if this agent VX nerve agent is so lethal, how did they not die if it was on their hands? If the substance enters and orifice it can kill you. Within a matter of minutes, the women had the substance on their hands. And you know, as we sort of trace in the film their recruitment by what they claim they thought were Japanese YouTube producers that ended up being North Korean spies, and the women say that they, in fact have been on this reality show for months leading up to this assassination. And they have been conditioned when they were playing these previous pranks, which were played with Johnson baby oil to go to the bathroom and wash their hands afterwards. So in the murder trial of the women, a chemical weapon weapons expert testifies and he says that if you wash your hands within minutes after you're exposed to be X that you can survive, I think They were prepared that the women may or may not die on the women are probably very lucky to have survived it. Yeah, because just imagine, had they wiped their nose or their highs. They could have died. Exactly. And I mean, at the beginning, everyone, you know the first images that came out after this assassination or of Guan teeth, Wong, who was wearing a sweatshirt that said, L o l on. It s so she was sort of Portrayed as this fem fatal kind of black widow, female assassin. And then when you start to watch all of the CCTV and listen to their defense and start retracing their steps, then you start questioning whether there is the possibility that they are telling the truth. And they, in fact, did not know what they were about to do. Well, tell us a little bit more about each of these young women and let's begin with 20 Hong young woman you mentioned with the L O. L sweatshirt. Who was she? Yes. So the film begins with this moment when they assassinate Kim Jong Nam and are Egg central question that was guiding us this whole time was Who are these women? Like? Who are these women That led them to this moment where they both touched Kim Jong Nam's face, and by the way, both women were saying they did not know one another that they literally met at Kim Jong Nam's face that day. So our film traces their backstories to really find out who they are. So do want. E Flung is from Hanoi. She was actually quite educated. But she wasn't using her degree, and she had spent the last five or six years desperately seeking fame and Hanoi. So she was on Vietnamese Idol and she was doing in a lot of modeling. And she in fact, Was on viral prank shows and Hanoi She was working at a as a waitress at a bar and Hanoi when she was approached by a man asking her if she wanted to be a part of a prank show, and the man claimed to be Japanese. So this is a thing prank shows. It's a huge thing in this part in this part of the world, you know, I think it sounds like a strange defense to people from Western cultures, but Even in the airport where this assassination happened. I remember the first time we were there, and we were filming the irony that on the television screens around the airport, a prank show was playing. It's not an out of the ordinary, you know, source of entertainment in this part of the world. Okay, so that's one Thi Hong and then city Aisha. She's from Indonesia. That's right. So city officials from a village a few hours from Jakarta and had a much harder life than 20 Huang. I would say, you know she was on. Lee was in school until the sixth grade ended up. Working at a sweatshop in Jakarta. She was a single mother on DCI was constantly seeking a better life constantly seeking a better paycheck on DCI ended up Coming to Kuala Lum poor with the promise of a job as we often see when it comes to human trafficking and ended up in the world of the sex trade. And so when she was approach the idea that she could make $100 for playing a prank, and this was a woman who was making 5 to $10 a day was hugely alerting to her because she was sending That money back home to her family and to her son. Wow, that is tragic. So the entire prank show was a ruse to provide cover for this assassination. Well, that's the big question at the epicenter of our film, and I don't think I can Unequivocally say either way, you know, I have to admit. I was very skeptical from the beginning. This assassination happened in February of 2017..

"On Jed Wolf. He has stepped down as the acting head of Department of Homeland Security. Uh And he said, Well, I was also wasn't serving in the post legally. On because of recent events. So that's why he is, uh Out as head of homeland security. You're going to be replaced by the head of FEMA. So FEMA's Yeah. I'm sorry. Homeland Security is kind of important and of FEMA seems like They are the classic government agency that's always Lot of bureaucracy and a lot of promises that never come true. So I I've never been a fan of FEMA. I don't know who they had is. I hope they're good. Or another nine days. Meantime, speaking of the next nine days, What do you think? Our adversaries are doing around the world. What do you think about China? Eyes, China looking and going there licking their chops going. You know what we're just going to go into Taiwan? This is a perfect time to do it. Or look at what is what is a glad have on his mind. Vladimir Putin. She got some country he wants to annex. What are we going to do? It. This is we are sitting duck right now. And you hope and pray. Nothing happens. But The world leaders out there that are our adversaries. They're probably smart enough not to pull some big giant stunt, but it makes you wonder. One off the big giant stunts is good old Kim Jong UN And General Jack Keane was weighing in on What Him has been doing. He's been loud mouth in Um About The United States. And here's General Keane talking about his analysis of what he's doing Well, certainly he looks at this as an opportunity with a new administration coming in. And this rhetoric is delivered. Certainly with President Biden elect in mind, Listen where I think Kim Jong Eun that he's been in power for nine years. Now is 37 years of age. When he came in Sandra, he had two major objectives. One is to help North Korea become a self sustaining economy and number two was to expand his military capability but particularly his nuclear arsenal. He's been very successful with his nuclear possible open, reports say about 60. Weapons he has. But he has also expanded the delivery systems the range of those delivery systems to the point where they can reach the east coast of the United States. Quite dramatic. In terms of capabilities, and, of course, he has been threatening the use those weapons systems as well as a ploy to get economic assistance. But the second objective even at that worker party Congress That was just referencing the introduction. He admitted that his economy policies have failed and his last year is in the worst shape he's ever had in his nine years not only because they have the pandemic and the borders closed, but because on a fragile economy President Trump impose sanctions on regime They want sanction relief. That's what this rhetoric is about Sandra. They want to have negotiations with the Biden administration and when he refers to hostile actions, what he's really talking about. Is the sanctions that have been imposed on North Korea so that that's where we're going forward. I think the other thing we know Sandra is that despite their over choice for denuclearization after four years, I think we've come to the conclusion that that was a ploy to get sanctions relief. We've made absolutely no progress towards denuclearization. They won't even give us the preliminary steps towards denuclearization. So that's why the talks have been stalemated, and I think the bite administration will recognize it. That's what they're dealing with is the regime's nuclear power has grown. The regime is belligerent as ever. And as dangerous as ever, And certainly we've always been concerned about the leadership with Kim Jong than his maturity and steadiness. Made no progress. With nuclear proliferation. It sounds like what General he's talking about. Is he got 60 nuke weapons. And that, remember we were talking not that long ago about the fact that he had the ability to maybe reach Hawaii. Maybe. But then we got to the point where well, do you think possibly they could hit the West Coast. And there was a false alarm. I believe in Hawaii couple of years ago about all this business you're with the general said he now has the delivery capability of making it. Delivering a nuke to as far as the East Coast, so that means anywhere anywhere in the United States. So the question for General Kane is Is Joe Biden going to have meetings with this guy? No, I don't think so. Not at all. And I don't blame the president for trying that, but obviously it did not succeed. Lively because where Kim Joon is, I think if there's going to be any negotiations first thing, I think the bite administration to talkto our allies in the region. Talk to Japan. Talk to South Korea Talk to Taiwan, Japan and Taiwan. Both have pretty hard feelings about North Korea. As a Trump administration did South Korea probably a much more open to economic assistance into negotiations with North Korea. And then if we're going to have negotiations with North Korea also talk to the Chinese Communist Party. They have a position here. They're the number one ally, and obviously they have tolerated the growth of nuclear weapons in North Korea. Otherwise they wouldn't be there. And then we're gonna have negotiations. I think the Bible group of begin at the way. It's normally done at the staff working level and see a progress could be made at that level, and I don't see any summit whatsoever. Unless Kim Jin.

"They'll protect your seat and power and these tantalizing options. Mean us leverage and influence abroad is reduced, and I think that's dangerous Ambassador Birds. Is there anything about Trump's foreign policy record that should remain in place? I mean, obviously, you know, I think the criticisms are well established for people who follow these issues, but he was the first to engage with certain hostile world leaders like North Korea's Kim Jong un He re negotiated trade deals that some people believe did need to be worked. Anyway. His State Department help We establish formal ties or established formal ties between Israel and a handful of Arab countries. Are there any things about Trump's foreign policy agenda that It should stay. I think his record of achievement is very thin in foreign policy, But you're right. Michelle, certainly encouraging Arab countries to recognize the state of Israel is positive. Illuminating the problem of China lying and cheating on its trade practices. Trade commitments around the world is something I think that most Republicans and Democrats will agree with. Trying to achieve an agreement with Kim Jong UN was right in the beginning, but he ultimately President Trump didn't accomplish much. You have to give some credit for those, but on the whole He's done enormous damage. You know, before we let you go, You know, it has to be said that a good portion of Trump's legacy regarding foreign affairs is about the way he treated his own experts openly undermining intelligence from his own national security team, openly criticizing diplomats and public servants. People who've given their lives to serving The American people. I'm just, you know, wondering how you rebuild morale in those ranks among the diplomats and analysts, you know, military experts and Christian partners. I want to ask you as a former member of this administration. I mean, you you left some time ago, but But do you share my assessment that morale is love, and I'd like to ask what you think needs to be done to address that there was a little bit of a misunderstanding about the way some of the foreign policy decision making worked under the Trump administration. To a great extent that the career experts were the voices that were making policy. But on certain issues, we would all wake up surprised by a decision that had been made overnight without any sort of policy coordination. That will stop and I think that is what is encouraging people. But some of those, some of the smart policy thinking has continued at the action officer level through even this administration. And I think the recognition that that will now be elevated is bringing back morale. Almost on its own ambassador found that from you and particular curious about your thoughts you because you are teaching. You know, at the moment you're teaching our kids going to school where you're Presumably trying to prepare the next generation. You know of diplomats and I'm interested in how your students have viewed all this in recent years and what you think it will take two Storm morale. I assume you're in touch with your former colleagues and you share my assistant. That morale has been quite compromised. What would it take to fix that? Donald Trump has done enormous damage to the State Department and for his service to the Justice Department, the CIA and the State Department. I feel it very strongly. I was a career foreign service officer We need to know. Put responsibility back on are career officers. We need a stronger budget. We need much greater diversity, racial and ethnic gender in our foreign policy ranks. You see President Biden doing that, and that's very positive. So I think, you know, maybe 10 days from now, If we had this interview again, we feel a little bit more hopeful because a new administration, I think will bring us back to what made us a great country in the world, and that's rebuilding our core strength as a first priority. That's Ambassador Nicholas Burns. He's a former diplomat, and he's currently a professor of diplomacy and international relations at Harvard's Kennedy School. We're also joined by Christian Fountain Rose. She's a former senior director for Gulf affairs at the National Security Council into the Trump administration. She's currently director of the Atlantic Council. Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative. Thank you both so much for joining us today. Thank you so much, Michelle. And finally today, we wanted to acknowledge that it's been difficult for many of us to think about the events of this past week without a fair amount of anxiety or anger or confusion about what comes next. Perhaps you're looking for some words of wisdom or comfort that can be heard above all the shouting. For that. We asked some of the faith leaders who we've talked to in the past on this program to share some of their thoughts. For the current moment, we'll start with Bishop Michael Curry, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church. Three questions. I'm finding helpful in these days of difficulty and hardship for us all. Sometimes it helps to just ask what hurts. What's wrong? In this time of pandemic. It's helpful to name where the pain is coming from. It's important for those who are sick or who have died to remember them to let their memory be a blessing. But then don't stop there. After you ask what hurts. Ask what helps to be better and to b'more and to endure to survive and even to thrive. And then lastly, but not least, What can I do to help? What can I do to be a blessing to somebody else? What hurts? What helps How can I help? They will make all the difference when we live those questions. Shallow. This'd small hurts felt this past week was.
