"And I really wanted to do it. We started having conversations. I don't remember exactly when they started. But we started having direct conversations about whether we wanted to get married and we realized that we both wanted to be married. If it was right, you know? And yeah, we had a couple of rough patches and at one point we'd broken up for maybe a month and gotten back together. In 2020, on a trip, they start talking about wanting to be married. The plans start coming together. This is when Kim, who's 47 at this point, realizes something else. She also wants to become Kimberly Atkins store. She wants to change her name. Sorry Donny Wahlberg. You missed your chance. And I just sort of brought it up one day when we were having dinner. And I told him, you know, I was just thinking about what if I did take your name in some form. Like, how would you feel about that? And he said the obligatory, well, it's your name, it's your decision, whatever you want to do is find. I'm like, no, no, no. How do you feel about it? If you would prefer I not, I want to know that, or if you think that it would be a bad idea. And so we asked me why, and I gave him some of the reasons and he not only was okay with it. I think he really, he said he appreciated where I was coming from. Well, let's go through some of those what were the reasons at that point? Yeah, so the overriding reason for me was I love him. I really love his family. It's really being becoming a part of his family would be a wonderful part of getting married to him. I knew that. And it would be a big change in my life. It would be an expansion of my life, expansion of my family, an expansion of my role, I'd be a stepmom. I'd be a daughter in law and a sister in law and I thought reflecting that in my name would only make sense. It felt right. It felt like something that I wanted to do, which again, surprise, I can't underscore enough how much that surprised me. And even then I wasn't sure, I thought, oh, I can keep it Kimberly Atkins for professional reasons. And they're all sorts of choices there. But I think I would want that. And then there are also other ancillary reasons. We are an interracial couple. And there are times when we go, you know, we go we're in the checkout in the grocery store and either another cashier would try to wave me over or they'll try to put the divider down, figure out where they put it between us and it's like, no, no, we're together. Like people just don't realize that we're together sometimes. We went to a restaurant with his two kids and the maitre D looked at the three of them and said table for three, and I'm like, no, four. And they're like, oh my God, I'm so sorry. I don't attach a negative intent to it, but people don't realize that we go together. And there are times that that could be difficult. If one of us got forbid were to be hospitalized, then I wouldn't want to walk around with my marriage certificate in my purse to prove to a hospital that I can actually see my husband if they don't recognize that I am his wife or that I'm just have to take my word for it and things like that. So that added an additional layer I thought it was really important for us to share a name. So it isn't just one thing that makes Kim want to change her name. And she's clearly put a lot of thought into it. Kim and Greg get engaged just before Christmas 2020. They get married on May 28th, 2021, at a hotel in Georgetown. She posts a photo on Twitter of her small wedding, where she looks spectacular. I see these photos and cry, because I haven't talked to Kim and forever, but my God, does she look happy? She captions her Twitter post, the stores. And I thought, okay, cool, cool. Maybe she's changing her name in our personal life, but not her professional life because she's Kim Atkins. She's got thousands of stories and TV appearances under that name. But Kim changes her byline, too. She becomes Kimberly action store everywhere. I'll admit I broke into a small sweat when I saw this. I have a ton of Friends who've changed their names or combined names with a partner, but Kim Atkins is like this established brand. I have to admit, not thinking anything about her personal reasons for wanting this changed. My first thought was, you're gonna take this man's name? Now?.

"I was reading a piece by kim atkins in the globe day today too. I was it today. I'm sorry but then print editions today. They're more than a million concerning shifts. Which i'd known the united states so the point you make about if this can happen. Britney spears because i have to say i sort of until i heard her voice and breaking down like she did. I didn't give a damn about this. And then i felt bad for her and then i figure you know. It's one person whatever i have more important things to do. Not this is huge this issue. Yeah and it's totally regulated or totally overseen or whatever the hell it is size spears to her credit may change the law and regulation around this stuff no. Yeah there's there's oprah people who are in this situation and we have to wonder why and although she's not stereotypically. The person who's in it many people are over sixty-five. But you see the aclu says that the people who get most exploited are actually women who are under the age of sixty five the reproductive rights issue that she has raised now. I want to say that. I'm i'm very clear that she we don't know what what her original diagnosis within. It's none of our business and she may still be suffering from some of the illnesses that required her to be under the original guardianship. And according to ronan farrow is reporting some of the people who were there say she very much needed to be in that situation at the time. But i think it's pretty clear that it's also a sexism. Issue right think about all the celebrities who made tons of money and then spend it terrible ways or married and terrible ways or may terrible decisions and no one came forward and said we need to be in charge of their money and how they spent the things that they do gene argument. We all make all the time. Why not let let people have their own money and decide what to do with it and this is a cases. I can't imagine this would have happened to michael jackson or to nick cage or to any borne. Ozzy osbourne right. They continue to do it. You know there's a movie called. I care a lot that rosamund pike was in guest. Yeah praying and plays. She plays a who who who actually goes out. It's fiction but she goes out and finds Very wealthy senior people who don't have family and then puts them in a guardianship in in connection with the nursing home or the center. They moved to and they milt them out of all their money. Apparently this is a real thing. That happens quite often in california. So you know it's an moments as you said. Jim it's you know. It's it's britney spears but at the same time who's taking care of the mentally ill people in this country who is who are the guardians who are making decisions for them and who's looking out for the older people who may have more money..
