"Coming up on K CBS are tech watch report. I mean, sure with details about new right to repair rules signed into law in New York. In case CBS News time one 45, we have sports with Stephen Langford. The NBA has handed down suspensions on the 11 players who were involved in the altercation during Wednesday night's game between the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons, now pistons guard Killian Hayes punched magic forward Moe Wagner in the back of the head this after Wagner forcefully nudged haze into the team's bench, and as the pistons players crowded Wagner, the 8 players on the magic bench ran over to the piston side in 8 of their teammate. The NBA rules state that players on the bench can not leave the vicinity if an altercation occurs on the court and Wagner's younger brother and teammate Franz said they left the vicinity despite that rule. Normally something like that happens on the court and now in front of one of the other benches so I think that's part of our worry I guess as teammates that you don't want your teammate alone amongst the whole other team. So the two mainly involved will receive multi game suspensions, haze will serve three while Wagner will serve two, another pistons player will serve one, the 8 magic players who left the bench receive suspensions of one game apiece New York Yankees slugger in the pride of Lyndon, California, Aaron judge, has been voted as The Associated Press male athlete of the year, he edged Los Angeles angels, dual threat superstar Shohei Ohtani in the ballot. Hayes leads Pistons to overtime victory over Mavericks
"Killian Hayes scored 8 of his 22 points in overtime as the pistons got past the Mavericks. One 31 one 25. The game was tied until Hayes hit back to back threes, putting Detroit ahead by 6 with 41.6 seconds remaining. It feels good to finally go on the side where, you know, things start working for you, but you just gotta keep working. I put in a lot of work. "Garland. Worst player in the league after his rookie season. He's an all star. This year. And so, you know, that ability to grow and figure things out and Garland's a great sort of example of a guy who it takes sometimes young guards a little longer and it seems like raptors hardest on those young guards and the analytics are hardest on those young guards when they're young. It takes sometimes a while to figure this out. Jalen green's upside to me was the guy that I was just like, man, I, you know, there is nothing analytically or even in talking to the GMs and scouts that I talked to that could really justify me putting there. But I still believe that he's got a chance to end up at some point in his career before the age of 25 in the top ten. In the top 2525. And I hear something to think about what Darius Garland compared to Jalen Greene as far as being at the bottom of the raptor list. Garland played maybe 7 games. He didn't even make it to the conference schedule before he had the foot injury and missed his freshman year. So you can make a case and say he came literally right out of high school. Wow, Jalen green was supposed to be the most prepared because he played in the G league. And that's what really makes it very interesting to me is that we thought that he was the most prepared and he's hasn't been on both ends of the floor and then I'm not to Paolo and Killian, but you know Jalen green's name is right by Killian Hayes and towards the very bottom of the league overall and raptor and that is not the best position to be in. Yeah, yeah. If you want to make the argument that raptors write like Killian Hayes is a great sort of example, but even coming into this season, I was a Killian. I just gotta be honest. I was a Killian Hayes fan coming into the draft. I thought he should have been a top ten pick in the draft. And while I had wobbles with Detroit taking him over tyrese Halliburton, I didn't give them a terrible grade on draft night. So I mean, he's obviously dramatically underperformed where I thought he would be in the draft. But there were so many questions after that first year. And then the sort of thinking came back, well maybe it's all going to turn around in year two and it didn't for him. And so I think so much of this will also be on Jalen Greene. What is he going to do is he going to get back in the gym? How is he going to work on his game? How is he going to improve? What is he going to learn and take from the season? Because the best in the NBA every year adding they're figuring out things, they're figuring out how to get done what they want to get done on the court and we'll see what Jan green, he seems like he's a competitive dude. He seems like he wants to be great. You saw that in the All-Star Game where in the rising stars man, I mean the guy was gunning for MVP like right from the get go. And for a while boy, he sure looked like it until he made a very Jalen green esque mistake at the end of the rising stars challenge where he took up a contested three when his team didn't even need a three to win. Though in his defense he says he was fouled by sitting. So whatever you want to take from that, I'm not going to read too much into the rising challenge. But I agree that Jalen Greene is going to be the most unique and interesting player to watch on this list. Going forward and seeing where he where he goes. Okay, he's Rafael Barlow. "Swing swing wide open threes that he regularly knocks down or a little touch shots around the rim that aren't falling. I mean, I was encouraged by the fact that, you know, you saw the way he moved Kevin Durant and just got right to the rim and finished. You saw the way he used his body to dislodge James Harden, who's, yeah, like, okay, not the world's greatest defender, but he's targeted. Hey, guys, can't dislodge him. Right, so that shows you a little bit of his strength, right? That he can get where he needs to go on a spaced NBA floor. So when the shots start falling when those little floaters and touch shots start falling, I think you're going to see a much different player. And so and I like the way they're not great, okay? That's putting it lightly. They have a lot of areas to improve, but you can tell the ball is moving a lot more. I think when they put it in its hands, it's not as stagnant. It's not as just ISO ISO basketball. They're playing a better brand of basketball. So I think as they continue to surround him with shooting. He's going to become even more dynamic. So yeah, it's ugly right now. But again, we need to be patient with him because even last year, he's the type of guy who looked at his first half stats against his second half stats. He would go one for 6 in the first half with two points and two assists and just kind of feel out the game. And all right, where can I attack where their weak points? Who do I need a spoon feed? How do I feel this out? And then in the second half, it's like 20 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, game winner. Like he has that clutch gene. If you look at his numbers in the last like two minutes of every game, he was one of the best players in the country. So I think that's where we need to be patient because he is kind of a feel things out type of guy. I did think it was just a little bit funny. Just a little bit. I watched this first I've watched, I think three of his four games start to finish. I watched his first game. Very excited as was everybody. I think it was just a little funny how the Detroit media went so overboard being like, yeah, you only have two points and two assists on one of 8 shooting, but if you guys watched the game, the way he impacts the game, he found other ways to impact again, the couple of deflections through some nice extra passes that I mean just forget the numbers for a second. The guy impacts winning and it's like, you can just say he had an underwhelming debut. Like, it's okay. Like you could just say, you don't have to like fake build it up. I think he'll be fine. I do think who should be the number one pick in this draft will be an interesting conversation for like 15 years. But to your point about the passing, I'm a sucker for passing plus height. And there was this one play I can't remember which game it was where Olynyk had a mismatch in the post and went and went to the block and the other team fronted him. And the weak side corner defender, like crept in a little bit to just help on the lob, right? Kate had the ball and immediately no hesitation. Like sometimes guys need someone to flash to the foul line for a high low. He just whipped the ball to that corner shooter who probably missed. I don't remember. It's the pistons, but it was this past it was just instant, accurate. Like, I'm 6 6. I don't need any middleman to do this. Boom. And I will say, I mean, God only knows which of these players will be on the pistons when they're good again. I like the theory of Killian Hayes, kade, Cunningham, Sadiq bay, one, two, three, because they're all kind of big. They can all handle and pass in Sadiq bay. People, I mean, he's had a nice second season and he's mean. He is driving into dudes with force and knocking them backwards with a mean streak that I really like. And again, they're just a theoretical team at this point. I think Killian Hayes is frankly, should be as much source of anxiety as Kate Cunningham is after four games, if not more, but I can see the theory, what it translates to, I don't know. Well, and here's what I'll say about K two, just in terms of circling back to how his peers view him. There's a reason why on the USA U 19 team. Jaylen green was on that team. Evan mobley, he was a little dinged up. He was on that team. Tyrese Halliburton was on that team. And cade was by far the best player on the court every single, almost every single game. And then you look at his teammate at Mont verd, Scotty Barnes, who I love. I'm sure he's maxed. He's next Toronto. Don't worry. I love Scottie Barnes, but he was the best player on maybe the best high school team that we've ever seen. Like cade has always been the best player. And he's always like, I think he's gonna be a triple double guy in the NBA. I really love it. I love it. So don't sell your kid Cunningham stock. Please, please, please, I'm begging you Evan mobile as a stud. I'm with that 100%, but cade as those jumbo playmakers they're hard to find and I think he has all the ingredients to be a star, just kind of a slow burn because he's so skill based..

"I know people are going bananas and I thought you had a good tweet without kind of calling them out directly and saying, yeah, Brandon Ingram struggled, like Trey young, struggled. Jamal Murray struggled. It's going to take 1520 games. We got to have these freaks that come out of nowhere. Like Scotty Barnes, maybe he didn't come out of nowhere. Then think you'd be out from 18 ports per game. He is. He's been really good. Scotty Barnes being a scorer like this came out of nowhere. Which is great for Scottie and incredible credit to him, but it came out of nowhere. So I. My puns are so bad. I'm not even trying to have pontier. Once kid gets his legs under him a little bit more and can play in his shots going to fall. Everything else looks right. He still passes the ball just the Florida needs to be more spread and Killian Hayes could work there. I don't know. Could work somewhere else. I just don't necessarily like the pairing if kids want to be a franchise guy with him next to him. I think there's a world where the pairing could work with the world where that pairing works typically involves like athletes who can shoot next to them. And those guys are hard to find, and they certainly don't really exist on this roster outside of Jeremy grant right now. And like you just can't start Frank Jackson with those guys, I don't think. I don't love that idea. So I don't know. This is a very strange. It's a strange situation in Detroit right now, but Isaiah Stewart looks very good defensively. Still, in my opinion, I know that they're 21st in defense of efficiency and have been a total fucking nightmare offensively. But Isaiah Stewart looks like a potential long-term like league average starting center, maybe if he can reach that level. Sadiq bay looks like a starting wing. I have no idea what to do with Killian Hayes, but we will see. And then they have saved and lead to who looks like maybe he can be a backup point guard at some point. Yeah, Sam was good hasn't gotten as much burn this year. With Isaiah Stewart too. His motor runs he plays really hard. It's taking him time to get back to 100% too, because he and injury the preseason..

"And the offense will look better. I will say just like structurally it feels like this offense is kind of a mess. I don't know what the role allocation is. Like they take a lot of like off the dribble jumpers. It feels like to me. Like they get run off the line. And part of it is that they don't have a particularly athletic team that breaks guys down off the bounce. Can do it, but Kate is also two games into his career. And is coming off of an ankle injury, right? It's going to be hard for him to play that role early in his career. Should we talk about the Killian haze thing? Because I'm ready to be done. I'm ready to be done with the Killian Hayes experiment at this point. Look, The Rookie year is disappointment, right? I didn't think what he was drafted 7th overall, but he'd be the third most productive rookie on his own team and maybe that's a credit to Sadiq bay and Isaiah Stewart. To be honest, I think it is. I think it's more of a credit to them than not a shot. But for his game, I just haven't really seen it. I don't love the decision making. He's cut his turnovers in half. I'll give him credit for that, but 28% shooter from three the last two years, not the best finisher. And you know he's going left. I mean, there's no right hand involved. And when they played Brooklyn, Bruce Brown just forced him into doing whatever he wanted and he was stuck. And now you have kids Cunningham in this league guard ecosystem. And how does that fit? Because if I'm constructing a team, I want the guard next to him to be a knockdown shooter or this crazy athlete that applies pressure to the defense. And for right now, I don't necessarily see that with Killian. Well, I think what I'm struggling with is I don't know why they're not just turning the offense over to cade to get him these reps. I don't think that the haze cade fit is one that's going to work, given this particular roster construction. Right now. Because, you know, they're starting a wing next to them and Sadiq bay that is also like kind of a non athlete by NBA standards, right? They're playing Kelly Olynyk at times with them. Isaiah Stewart like not an incredible athlete by NBA standards by any stretch, right? Really, really good defender, really effective player overall, but like not an incredible athlete, right? So you're starting a lot of lower level athletes with this group. And I think it's just hard to for them to find ways to make things happen on the court. But like you also need athletes who can shoot in like the public Killian haze is right now that you can't really shoot. He can't get by anyone because everyone knows he's going left. I just don't. I don't know what to do with killing Hayes right now at least. And the way I would do it if I was Dwayne Casey, I would give cade the ball, I would start. Maybe like honestly, Frank Jackson next to him because Frank will defend and he will shoot the ball hopefully. I know he's shooting 17% from three, but I think Frank can shoot. And he will provide backdoor cuts occasionally and will provide that kind of off ball movement that I think they need..

"Jumping into a game? I mean, does it really do we really just say the bucks are good and the pistons are bad? Like one 17 to 89 bucks. Still missing starters box. But yeah, they still missing starters, but the pistons are really bad. Jeremy grant kind of bounces back with 21 points, but Kate Cunningham, two for 14 from the field, including zero for 9. Yikes. That's not great. Still very early, and that's not reason to suddenly beat only two guys in double figures for the pistons in the game. The worst out of all 8 for 47 for three, if you take out Jeremy grant and Killian Hayes, who combine to go 6 for 12, they were two for 35. That's impressive. That's hard to do. That's yeah, Trey lyles was two for 8, Frank Jackson was over 5 Cunningham. We already said over 9 city bay, two zero for four, only two for 13 from the field overall yeah. Just about as bad a game as the pistons could play in the box did enough to win behind Yanis. And kind of munchkin type lineup. So his brother's not small because he's kind of bulky, but the NASA is starting at the 5 right now for Milwaukee. We'll see because there's no real clarity on holiday or Lopez. We now know Chris Middleton's going to fail for ten days. So at least, and we'll see from there. Let me ask you this. The pistons minus Jeremy grant or Killian Hayes, shooting from three in a three point shooting competition against blindfolded Steph Curry, who are you taking? Oh, that's a good question. I assume. He gets up and it's just muscle memory or the pistons, no blindfolds, just shooting. So like last night's pistons, staff takes 35, three pointers, staff. A hundred be crazy. I was thinking the same thing. Yeah, it probably. Now I'm caught on. That's a good question because now I'm wondering how it makes..

"Do a lot of things for him and it's still pretty early in the day for him, career wise, especially seen as more projected out of Florida state, not like, hey, finished tool plug and play, you know? So I think it's really interesting that they're kind of on this win now footing, but they're also starting this guy who's really more a future guy a couple years out. It's an interesting dance there and I want to see what it looks like when Williams comes back. Yeah, I'm still pretty bullish on Williams. I think that I still think that the bulls made the right choice here. And in part, you kind of look at you kind of go down until you get to tyrese Halliburton again and there's a lot of kind of head scratching with this draft right now and what these guys are going to be. And none of them really popping necessarily right now as sophomores or in the summer league. None of them looked like they've made the big jump. And one that's troubling is Killian Hayes. A guy that I liked in the draft. I liked and I liked it too. I didn't like him better than tyrese Halliburton, but I liked him and defended Detroit's drafting him, though I would have taken Halliburton ahead of him. I'm getting concerned if I'm a pistons fan right now about Killian Hayes. Is it too early to be concerned? It's not too early to be concerned. It's too early to write him off. But he has looked like not an NBA player. Like just just flat out just not it. And you still see little flashes of some of the stuff that got him picked, but without the kind of basic nuts and bolts of either having a shot that's good enough to really command defenses respect or enough quickness to get by a defender without having some kind of manufactured advantage. There's just not a lot there. And so and so you really have to worry about that. Yeah. You know, I'm worried and it will be interesting to see how the pistons decide to use him when Kate Cunningham comes back and there's a lot of talk that they're going to be sharing the basketball and kind of back and forth as primary ball handlers for this team. I'm skeptical that kade is going to be ultimately a primary ball handler. It's sort of interesting he had that rep coming into the draft more than Scotty Barnes and I actually feel more comfortable projecting Scotty Barnes that way that I do. Absolutely. That was my thing with Kate. I thought K to me was much more of like a shooter and secondary ball handler. And I don't see Kate in Hayes working together for the simple reason that Hayes isn't a guy you can start right now. Like Detroit needs to bring him off the bench and at least let him play against backups. Like setting him out for the first 5 minutes to get abused by frontline players in the NBA. I just don't think that's helpful for his development. And you end up not playing him that much with Kate anyway because you have to pull him out of the game so quickly. So that's one that I just don't see there. I think for his sake for the piston sake and everything, I think they just need to start Corey Joseph and then go to Hayes with the second unit. See what you can get and see if you can bring them along, but just just throwing him into the deep end of the pool. I mean, they tried that last year and it was a disaster. I flabbergasted that they're doing that again. Yeah, and you hope that there's progress from rookie to the sophomore year, but I'm not seeing it, I didn't really even see it in the summer league, which is really cool. Or preseason. Exactly. Exactly. And so how does it work out in the regular season? So okay, so I'm ticking down the list of the draft here. Tyrese Halliburton, I have a really like, I think he's going to be really good player. Is Devin vassell going to be the next kind of best player out of this group? I mean, you know, it's interested. He's getting the spurs aren't really interesting team this year. It's hard to exactly see where everybody's role is going to be. They also took Josh primo in the draft kelden Johnson is there. I'm not sure what role is going to play, but every time I watch vassal play, I like him. And I like to pre draft as well. I thought the spurs got a steal here in the draft. What do you think about Devin vassell? Yeah, I liked him too, coming into the draft. I thought it was kind of a ready made 3D package that had some upside to go along with it. My man needs to get to the basket once in a while. It can't just all be jump shots. And I think that's the biggest thing holding them back right now is that off the dribble game and the ability to beat people off the bounce, even with the threat of his shot, which he should be able to use to gain an advantage just hasn't been able to get inside the paint at all. And so it's made him a very jump shot dependent player and it's like, if he can shoot 40% from three, then maybe it doesn't matter, but when you put yourself in a position where you have to shoot 40% from three, that's you're raising the bar pretty high for yourself. Precious ochoa doesn't get much run in Miami. I think they try early on, decide he's unplayable. Getting a lot of minutes in Toronto again, we talked about their developmental team there and how they're developing players. He certainly looked better in the preseason this year. They're playing him at the 5. What do you think about him in this fit with Toronto? Is this is this a case where, you know, again, on a certain team, you're going to be a really troubling fit, but you get to the right team and a team that believes Indians going to develop you and maybe this is the best thing that could have happened to him in his career. Well, I think it's probably good for him to go from Miami Toronto because he is going to play in Toronto. I mean, if you look at the other options, et cetera there, he's going to play. But is he is he an answer? I mean, I have a hard time saying that. To me, he's like, he plays hard he plays with energy. He rebounds. Doesn't really know what a good shot is. Doesn't have great feel for the game, especially at the offensive end. I don't think he's a guy like you can play through with the elbows or anything like that at all. And not like a super like above the rim guy, either where you're just having him dive to the basket on pick and rolls and he's dunking on people's heads. So to me, his value proposition is like he's not a starting center to me, but I mean, what else do the raptors have? I mean, that's what submarine their season last year, right? So I don't know. I was a little flabbergasted by that whole trade where they took basically a negative contract with 19 million for drag it as the return in a Kyle Lowry sign and trade. I don't think they came out ahead on that basically..

"Where are you at with the two of them coming into the season and in what you want to see from them because it's kind of a big year for both i. I honestly thought he was a little bit unfairly criticized last year. It was more like he was an amazing rookie. If you take out you know. Some of the first stretch of the season one his his shooting numbers were pretty body He kind of had a similar. You're on unbalanced slightly worse. I didn't really think that there was that much that you can look out with. John say was was terrible. You know i not that. I think anybody thought he was terrible. There was a lot of people seem to kinda wear on him compared to where he was in his rookie year and with jaren I mean this is just a big year for him. In general in terms of figuring out what and who he is on as a basketball player and if he's going to be able to take those next steps that a playing center more whether or not he's hanging at the four more And just put everything together. Stop fouling find health on court like they're awash with the two of them had into the year. Yeah no i. I agree i mean i think would jaw. I mean he's kinda come out with a killer instinct he he said he keeps on saying he been working in the dark Kind of just been low key and what he's been working on but it's pretty apparent right now. His jumper looks a little overhauled. To an extent ends looks a little more sped up looks a little more fluid. And he's added that mid range game into his arsenal mean just the other night against a gets detroit. They ran that. Pick and roll with stephen adams. Man poor killian hayes dude like they got in the pick and roll and he had stewart on the switch in his hit. A mid range separated like three straight possessions. Were jhad stephen adams picket role. So that's a nice tight rope that they gotta do but only beginning let hayes duty does i. Just don't see it for him in that capacity the more up honestly this. They feel pretty simple team in terms of their outlook with their roster. Looks like they have good players but do we really need to debate. What jeremy grants should be in the context of this team at this point. Like i think to the extent that anyone needs a shout out on this roster who's probably a little under loved underserved isaiah as steward is a good nba player. I think people are going to start to see that as you know with passer. Light cade as killian hayes came hopefully improves. You know even just like playing with a galley cory. Joseph is like a dependable veteran table center. Those guys are all going to make. Isaiah stuart look even better. Here's my question. The pistons i mean. Just do this briefly. Could they be better than a bottom five team this year because they do have a lot of intriguing guys like getting past the hayes. Cunningham situation like stick bay is a pretty good three indeed wing type. Jeremy grant is an established like twenty point a game scorer forever. That's worth who will be better with someone like cade setting him up and stewart's and other guy they like. They have stuff here and i could see them blowing past a low project. Kelly winnick a guy who played really well for the rockets for whatever that's worth like. They have stuff. I think the argument against is that even if you just look at the east so many of the bottom teams in the east teams. That were not great. Have all kind of taken a step forward for one reason or another. And so they get caught in that glut where you know we'll get into these next teams that we have ranked ahead of them but all those teams just have like a couple more reliable veterans or you know top level coaching. They'll have something to speak for them. In a way that think the pistons are still trying to figure out who they are still trying to figure out how all this is gonna work. and so. Unless you know if kate has a a luca danni like rookie season. Then maybe we can revisit. That can table until then but otherwise. I think they're going to be pretty bad and they're gonna be fine with that. Wait wait wait. You say kay you said kate i bet you say hey. I know you're hiring this kid. Would you might be snoop talking like that. This episode is brought to you by room. You didn't just into a warehouse. Full of ravenous cannibalistic. Monsters here at a car dealership and those are salesman but with room you can skip the nightmare and focus on other more polish ously entertaining stories ones that you actually like with room. "Same thing killian. Hayes was awful. You know i really thought that. He struggled played three games. Only seven out of twenty two from the field to of eleven from three barely got to the foul line himself A fourteen assists in three games and playing about twenty five minutes. Game will over twenty five minutes a game but it just. It didn't look great to me. Didn't look like someone who's going to be a positive force as a creator still very left hand dominant. You could seized trying to work on the right hand but all the plays were set up to heaven going to his left. Hand also worth noting that the pistons tried a few more things coaching wise than you normally would really like. They're like trapping jalen green at half court and the pick and roll and like they clearly had a bunch of these place. Set up to get hayes going from right to left to his left hand. I get into the lane. But still i wasn't able to be that productive. Just he's going to have to become a very good shooter to be successful. And i don't think he's really on that path. I don't think that his ability to get to the basket is particularly good at it. You just could just feel it out there. There's just kinda this like mathur giving it to him instead of k it again like why you know and you just you didn't expect something positive happen When he had the ball. I thought he had some better efforts defensively than he showed in the past. Yeah i think that there is still a window. Killing hayes become a useful. Nba player. But part of it. And i would say this is actually extremely good. News for the pistons. Is that now the pistons their long term success does not depend on killian hayes popping creator i now now if he does it. Great were you. Can you can work with that. You can make a bunch of different ways that that can be successful. But if he doesn't have kid you can work it that way and there were points for the pistons partially because they just had so many so many mouths to feed offensively that they had just too many cooks. Where you had stephen lee in cunningham and killian hayes all of whom in many ways you intend for them to have the volunteers and that led to sometimes cade being. The guy was off audrey. You're the one that we wanna see with it. No disrespect to save unle- and killing as but it's just been where we go and so i think that that the ecosystem hard run them but also you're playing significantly inferior competition and so i'm very interested in how invested weaver and doing casey aren killian hayes. Because if you think that. Kate has caved. Kate is the guy that he is a. He's the lynch linchpin. Maybe you try to move it into production but if you're if you're going to play significant minutes for kilian hayes whose dot really ready for that. And yes he missed a lot of his rookie year dude injury and he's still pretty young and everything else. Then you're going into production now. I would argue that the pistons being bad for one more year at least would be very good thing for them. Long-term build up the asset base. Get more guys to add into this intriguing foundation and playing killing. Hayes is a good way to do it. So it will save lee here and i'll second that they needed just put the ball in cates hands because their point guards are going to be some of the worst in the nba from creation. Standpoint may be the worst But that's ed sabin leah. Thought had a very nice summer league and the biggest thing that stood out to me was that he was extremely reluctant to shoot the ball up but actually took four three point in times game and he made forty percent of them and was pretty aggressive shooting at He still pushes the ball. Really hard in transition showed some passing vision. He's a past defensively as well He showed the ability to get into guys. Chesler a little bit and finished. Maybe not a amazing shot blockers necessarily but he's got very solid athleticism for being an undersized point guard he's got good strength Really just liked everything that i offer. And so his. E you'd see like his upside tj mcconnell able to actually shoot a three point shot and like it's a pretty simple you know. They may have something in him. You've spent last year on a two way now as on a a longer contract with plenty of team control. So i really liked what i saw from lee. In summer league he came in and did everything that you would have hoped that he have done. He showed some new skill as a three point shooter. And yet you know you can. It was only twenty shots but the volume compared to where he was in his first season at the nba level. Where did play a lot and had chances to take threes and just didn't do it very encouraging got him. I was impressed by what is offering one other thing. I think is important to note there on certainly shooting. Which is those threes that he made. Were pull up threes. Those were not catching shoot. He is saving actually missed all four of his catching shoot attempts of any distance in some early but he was able to make them make him off the dribble and the pistons have a bunch of points on the roster but to me saving. Looks like a backup. He's minimum contract for the next two years and then has a team option. And that is the team option. Like we've seen he's not at that level player but like with mitchell robinson and was yokich and all that where you can decline it to make restricted or. Pick it up to make him unrestricted your later. And yeah i think that having lee in the rotation sure you have cory joseph who somehow got that player option on there as well. But i think evenly can take the reins. I think that he can be a backup point guard. We'll just have to see how rotation shakes out for sh- ripe for how these guys get their opportunities..

"Know ticket. I never looked down at his phone once. And i asked him for nothing. No ticket no pass. Nothing worry about me. i'll be there. Well this game on the pistons bandwagon this year. They're like a nice on a dog team. I love yeah. You know they got. They got some deep bay. I i have expectations for killian hayes. That he needs to live up to that he needs to live. He's the key you had some injuries. Year pause jill rose as competitive detroit in obviously a die hard pistons fan who was born into the family because for me. I'm always compare them to you. Know who. I'm about to say who. I'm always confirmed to killian who falkland albert halliburton halliburton was in. Their halliburton was in right there. Halliburton i know. I know i love halliburton. He ain't gonna get a chance to show where he got with them. He joe where he got with them. Jalen rose loves and he says it all the time. If you've heard a million times people that sound older than they are. That's all halliburton. Got that to jalen rose the number of call. He started talking. I was like i saw. Who but they're susie start talking. I was like cj mccollum. Nancy hustle. I was like yes yes him. Take him so shelter killing hayes. I'm looking.

"Took the floor. Jared up but it was good to see him in the uniform. Wasn't it how about this. Who'd tear it up. It's summer league like if you really look deeper into the box score. There are a lot of things to examine how young players being used. Sometimes they being used in different positions. Sometimes they're being used a showcase their strips. Sometimes there'd be a position to work on their weaknesses. they're different matchups out there. It's a new game on a new level. Some of these guys are first time players. Do you got season. Vets like farid and beasley trying to hopefully make the blazers so i was happy to see the young fell out there. Baller killian hayes gotta watch his development isaiah stewart and bay continue to develop those players in detroit. One day. I love seeing him on the. Nba floor was just stood out to was his height. He is tall for a ball handler. He was using his length his his wingspan to get in the lane. And kind of finish. I really like that aspect of his game. Do you think he can turn his height into major advantage. In the league absolutely jacoby. I like his poise immaturity. And that's something you really want. The face of a franchise caliber guy and also in college. He proved to be clutch as well. So he's gonna be a great player. That in a lot of ways becomes a communist influence. Because you now have a face at a franchise and again. I'm gonna keep comparing this to what we saw. What the hornets. Once they add it lamelo ball. You know you have something special. And then you just continue to build around that. Jill and i'm gonna need some help and it involves doors burke who asked during the broadcast and what are cartier buffs. I need some detroit to english translation. What are cartier buffs. Shot out to the d. I'll tell you cartier's glasses. Extremely.

"Him as the pistons complete their game of musical centers were they traded away plumbly and now picked up kelly link. This basically is going to be yet for detroit's cap space. They we thought. Maybe something sexier was in the works. Or maybe they go after spencer dinwiddie or something but instead they just made this move to bring in olympic and olympic. Not a very good defensive player. He's not a bad cop in a different type of center than isaiah. Stuart is you imagine off the bench. Maybe he can play. Next to stuart in some alignments and just gives a nice floor spacing big to allow kate cutting ham and some of these other young guards that they have to go to work. It's a lot of money to pay to somebody. That is a non premium big. You classify him more of a five to four and a winnick. Having forced basing at that spot is nice. You'd pick and pop partner is real estate for cade and for killian hayes and all these other players and we'll see what this third year is like if that's partially guaranteed or non-guaranteed. I will feel a lot better about this. But i like i like his fit on the pistons team. That isn't necessarily trying to be good right now. But we'll see what some of these other players get I mean i think they could've. They could've aimed higher. And it's it's distinctly. It's fine but not great. And part of the reason we think that the pistons are done is that they also they waved cory joseph and then they brought cory joseph back on both the waiver in the new contractor less than the basically than the money the fully guarantee contract would abandon that opened a spending power. Looks like he's getting two years at the room exceptions that's two years roughly ten million but surprisingly cory joseph got a second year player option. Pat is a rather surprising. Indeed and now some of that's going to be offset by the two point four million that he's getting that he was owed already for from getting waved at least in the first year and joseph has a history. Dwayne casey easily A good bet. They can pretty crowded here at the guard position though though no real established options did not offer a qualifying offer to dennis. Methods are now All is return to shoot two free agency of humdrum diablo who olympic also a good fit to kinda with in lineups with the because the allergies are not a great shooter and likes to get on top of the rim with another guy who can benefit for enforce basing. Its with the link. It seems like they just went a little bit higher than the mid level. That's what they had to do to get him. It's got you. Olympic basically just got dumped by the heat to get victory depot and seemed like he really played well enough in houston to kinda resurrect things for himself. And i guess you know shooting at the definitely is the best stretch five on the market although as you mentioned he doesn't really depend but that doesn't team were detroit is. That doesn't matter as much. Seems like another guy who liked plumlee is not going to end this contract on the detroit post also do technically have about seven million or so cap space left if they want to use it but You know we'll see what the aloe ends up getting as well. That's true when they fill out the roster. They've they made just to be done here. did you mention. I didn't hear you mentioned trey lyles stripe. For the sake of completeness forgot to adami sheet because we didn't know we had two years five million. I guess that's maybe that's Some more of their cap space could be it also. It also sounds to me like two years at the minimum. Like that's my my instinct. There will will see. Sometimes those can get get reported in different ways. But i wanna finish up on houston David wada or yeah. I forgot about him. They had early bird writes. The rockets did on him three years. Fifteen million dollars again. We'll see on the last year of that whether it's fully guaranteed but i'm really happy for after s- coming to so many injuries. He plays really hard only. He's only played fifty games combined the last two years but i thought i thought he contributed some energy to the rockets and the the opportunity cost of it with the early bird. Rights was relatively low. Assuming that tillman cheetah's willing to pay it and then the other thing and this isn't like assigning but i think it's interesting from jonathan fagin. His expectation is that both shangkun and spun. Group are going to play for the rockets. This year i'm group is of course playing in for spain in the olympics but why that's significant as we talked about grue- having this gigantic buyout and so the expectations that he's going to go over however that's going to get so out. I thought that was notable too and wanted to share. They'll be exciting to the rockets. With with these rookies. We like their draft a lot. I'm really excited to see what these guys look like. M it does seem much as we have derided To over the years that repels don't think pre similar to the way i do a i've liked most of their moves really since he ascended to power so hope you enjoyed part one of our look at every deal and every team that happened on a crazy day. "Joseph to a two year ten million dollar contract and i want to say that second year has a player option. That's not a great deal to me. it's That i don't wanna say that it doesn't matter but like considering like i think it's just kinda like it's whatever that's movable I don't mind watch. And he was fine in detroit on no big deal. It's tiny money and they signed Trey lyles to a two year five million dollar contract. So i don't entirely hate that like like whatever miles could be useful. Assault floorspace pacers. That's really all. I have andre. Lyles like he was really weird with him with. Aw chan tonio. Last year. Because i know he was almost involved in a trade at some point in the year and then it fell through and or he ended up not being part of the trade then it just kind of made things weird between him and the and the team in front office in general Which was just kind of weird. But overall i'm interested to see what detroit does stokes. They have some room to work with What do you wanna talk about the draft. How'd you feel about the draft. So yes so for detroit's draft they drafted cade cunningham number one overall. It's an obvious home run. It's the pick. Everyone thought they should make the pick. They should've made. And it's the pick midday and made They've got a legitimate number one on their team. Now i think keith. Cunningham is going to be a franchise player. And he's the exact kind of player that i think he'd want to build around when you're early in your rebuild at least early ish. I think he'll play pair pretty well next to killian hayes. Although there are some some your turn my turn. Things i think to work out in terms of Killian getting a little bit better as a catch and shoot player. But that'll come with time in caid will encourage that kind of development because killing. We'll have to play off baltimore. You will have to get used to that. And it's something. I think he's capable of They drafted isaiah livers michigan at number forty two. I generally generally don't begrudge second round picks. He's you know he's a from a state school. Which is kinda neat. Nothing that i think is a huge benefit per se. But it's fun. And i like it. And he's a shooter and the team needed shooters. I don't hate that value at all. He's pretty fun. Look garza fifty-two. Honestly like i wouldn't have drafted luca garza personally but if you can take a guy who was that good in college. That late in the draft picks..

"Pacific time. We're about to give picks they did something different. This time they had all the guys walk out with their families. I really liked it. All right so It looks like the pistons take cunningham. Kfc we okay with that great. That's the right decision. It's kinda. I wouldn't call it a no brainer but 'cause that's speaks to evan moberly and jalen green how talented they are But it's as close to a no brainer as it gets when you're talking about a guy who's six foot seven six four eight can play. Who can shoot off the dribble who can defend multiple positions. Who's a leader. Who works hard. Like for the pistons. Here with their current roster. You know as troy weaver said everybody's a fit Became cunningham is especially at fit next to their backcourt with killian hayes city bay in the front court and i say a stewart. I love their young core in the pistons finally have hoped someone who wants to be in detroit too. It seems like russillo. I have my final rankings. Mostly one cunningham to green three adding mobile is going to go down twenty years from now as the most impactful guy from this draught the from trying to actually win the title. I'll do respect to cunningham. I think we basically had three number one. Picks in this draft Sometimes that happens. I just like moby. The the way is played now. What were your final. Rankings i went back and forth on to you and i talked about it a little bit because you know their game. Evaluations in their clip evaluations. And if you watch mobile clips you can't believe not going number one He's he does so many extra little things that are special For big guy you know. I was chat for he said when. Gm said he'd stopped looking at center or ford. Start looking at the small four. I thought that was a bit of a stretch but also speaks to kind of some of the projections where he can be a perimeter guy. But i kind of like the idea of a five year. Keep on the floor before we get to that. Because he's gonna get picked up pretty quickly the way the game is played today for cape cunningham to be six eight and shoot forty percent from three and control things and not get sped up and all the big moments that he had in the second half scoring. There's just so much to like. They're so. Kate ends up not being the best player in the draft. Ten years from now okay. Fine but it's hard for me to imagine with today's nba game the size shooting and passing him not working out and having a big time impact. You could point to the turnovers exist the more you watch full games oklahoma state this year. That was not a very good team. It just wasn't and teams would w. be fine debut on mitchell you know who's terrific defensively would get him sometimes and then sometimes capable get him to and he was never ever phased and it was always in control the game and i think that's a really special attribute to have when everything's on you to make all those decisions and mobley didn't have to do any of those things. I think kate is the safe safer. Pick and i get it. I just like mobilize upside. Cassie you. You're the tiebreaker already. Have it's cade. I give the tiebreaker. Because he's one of those guys you can rely on to create a shot in playoff situation in a game six game seven when you need somebody to get a bucket and wherever moberly i mean he very well could become a guy who does that for you. But it's much more of a theoretical skill than it is for cade cunningham. Who already can with moly. I mean we'll see. Maybe he if he goes third to cleveland. He's going to be one of those guys who can play make for your from the elbows. Maybe occasionally brings the ball up before barricade is going to be your primary source of offensive creation. And i'm always gonna favor those guys with them through the most important players basketball. Would you have tried to trade back and do you think the pistons tried to trade back. Here they listen to offers for sure they definitely did listen to offers just as of now nothing was strong enough to move off of cade cunningham which speaks to the type of player he could be. I mean cade cab is very. It's very safe to say he'll be like a top thirty five forty player. It's just a matter of the heights. He reaches like. I mean i could see him becoming a top ten guy. He has that level of upside. It's just a matter of if he can reach it or not. And i think with detroit they have the right surrounding pieces for him and it's not going to surprise me one bit. If as soon as he steps foot there we see isaiah. Stuart look even better. We see killian hayes. Look even better because he's one of those guys who makes everybody else around him better. Are you worried about you. Got killing huckster now or now. No nope not not not even a little bit bill. Killian this is a good thing for him because of the killian hates a good thing. It's a great thing because he's in a situation here where there's less pressure for him. Nafta handle the boss pressure left. That be played but he's got to be playing. He's going to begin stops on defense and facilitating just like he did as a rookie. Everybody looks at the poor scoring numbers. Bell let's focus on the things killian hayes can-do elder of his scoring over the course of time. I hope he does look. I look by the way gillian to worry about. Cdc bay at this point more. I better player than he is right now. It would be funny if they took. They took halliburton's seventh to have halliburton and kate on the same team who were very similar with. They don't need the ball a ton and they just can kinda fitted with everybody. That would have been a fun back all right. The pick is in kate. Cunningham has been selected. I like his outfit. He went with the all black tie. And the and the whole things put on the pistons hat in there you go. There was a moment In the last couple of days when all the sudden it looked jalen. Green was get worked out. Detroit i found out moby had a secret workout with the pistons and he crushed and i think that was a schism a little bit on. The troy riverside little tom side. Yeah look let's share it with everybody. Because the higher week it turned into this whole idea that it wasn't gonna be kate which i was kind of defaulted awards and i think is going to get this one wrong. I don't think is going to do that wrong. Do that towards but for those that now that we share it the story goes jalen. Green destroyed his workout. Kate.
