A D.C. council Bill could be the first step toward a more colorful drive. The district's office of LGBTQ affairs and the council member Robert white say they plan to pass a pride plates act of 2023. Funds from the license plates will support the office's programs, grants, and community resources in a statement white says he's excited to bring pride plates through D.C. ahead of the city's housing world pride in 2025. The pride license plates if passed by the council would join a slew of specialty designs supporting the environment, veterans, and more. Monday, the national zoo's bird house opens to the public for the first time in 6 years. One of the habitats includes a setting that mimics a bird friendly coffee farm. At rich valdes on all of these social media and our guest is Dana Killian. She is the author and former excuse me. Take two. Security. Author and former caretaker of an attic. Dan achille shares her hard earned education in her debut memoir where the shadows dance, he got sober, I got broken and you could check that out and buy a couple of copies of the book. I recommend giving one away. I think it's always a good idea. Matt Dana, we left off with, you know, you saw the warning signs, but didn't know that they were there. The doctors didn't alert you. What was the emotional side? Part of your memoir, a part of your story. What was it like was it easy? I can't see easy, but how difficult was it being a caretaker of your former husband who was an alcoholic? I think that's probably one of the most difficult things about the experience. Alcohol slowly occupies your life and your thoughts. You are constantly in this place of does he have a problem? Is he drinking now? What do I have to look for? What am I watching for? Smelling his breath, looking at his eyes, wondering when the world is going to crash around him and around you. And it is a process once you get into the haters a problem. And you start trying to figure out ways to work through it. It becomes a game. The alcoholic doesn't want to change. And there is this one step forward two steps backward process where the alcoholic kind of digs in and goes through the classic maneuvers that many, many alcoholics go through, which is trying to find ways to modify their drinking so that they feel like they're accomplishing something. Well, originally my former husband drank beer and as I became concerned about his drinking, it was, okay, I'll just drink wine with dinner. Okay, I'll just drink a special occasions. And these are just little games that the attic is playing to appease you and to. Their own problem. That's it correct. That's it exactly. They don't want to admit that they have a problem because the hardest person to face in anything that's difficult like this is yourself. But those of us on the sidelines and alcoholism, we just get caught up in trying to keep the person we love alive. Trying to keep the impact of their illness away from our children. Trying to keep the impact of the disease away from financial ruin. When is he going to crush the car and kill somebody? These are the things that just kind of constantly bubble under the surface in your life. And it becomes consuming and you almost because it's so slow, you don't even know what's happening. And how do you know it? You're not there anymore. Right. Right. And that's what I was going to get to. Around the booth. Right. The title is really what got me here, right? It's where the shadows dance, and hopefully you can tell us the meaning behind the title of the book. But I like the subtitle here. He got sober. I got broken. And I think that's really the story here is that while there may be recovery for the person that's an alcoholism and facing alcoholism, they can find that recovery, but then you yourself have to do some healing because of what you went through in the trauma of it all. So how did you guys get to that point? How did he get sober? How did he realize he had a problem? Like all of these things, it fits and starts and there are progressive actions and progressive behaviors of forcing therapy. Therapy game became a condition of marriage. Eventually, there was a point where I, he didn't get to the point where he was, he thought he had bought, but hadn't. And eventually we got to the point where I had to say, you have two choices. You can have me or you can have vodka. There's nothing else in between. And this was years in. This was after health issues, this was after a DUI. This was after various events, such as this, where it just, it's spirals down. And only when that point occurred when I said these other choices, that's the point when he eventually agreed to go into a rehab center. I've got sober then. All right, folks, we're on with Dana Killian. "Everybody will ask, has family members? Have you has your job been impacted? Has your family been impacted? Those are the things to look for. And it's not the quantity of booze. It is the consistency of booze. Again, my experience, I'm not a therapist. But in my experience, it was the constant need. Not the quantity. My former husband was exhibiting symptoms of liver disease. His doctor said nothing to him. Other than this, you know, those enzymes are a little elevated. Right. Until it becomes a big thing. And then they're like, hey, you're in the early stage of cirrhosis, pal. And you're like, oh, how'd that happen? But when he said anything. Yeah. I saw this happen. And then sure. John just sets in the body start the body will not let go of this. The body shows its clues. Eventually. But this is a process that can take years. It can take decades. Well, I want to get to the rest of the book, if you don't mind Dana sticking with us, we're going to hit a quick pause right here. "Big election day in the state of Georgia, Rafael Warnock and Herschel Walker going at it. Just about every headline I've seen is very discouraging for Republicans. And look, at the end of the day, we will know by tomorrow. Who won the day? But my concern is a very real concern. We're going to be talking with Martha Zoller from W D UN in just a little while. But my concern is about getting out the vote. Tomorrow, you're going to have bad weather, but you got to still get out, you got to go vote. Beyond that, I'm very concerned about the establishment Republicans in Georgia and whether or not they will try and sabotage the election. You say, well, Tom, what are you talking about? Well, the lieutenant governor of Georgia, a guy by the name of Jeff Duncan, is out there, and he's saying that he didn't vote for Herschel Walker. He calls Herschel Walker a terrible candidate. Take a listen. Earlier, today, CBS News congressional correspondent Nicole Killian discussed the runoff election with the lieutenant governor of Georgia. The Republican explained why he decided not to vote for fellow party member, Herschel Walker. I'm a conservative. I'm a conservative because I think it's the best way to govern. I've been a Republican a lot longer than a lot of folks. I think I've got kids probably that could articulate the conservative platform better in some of the candidates that Donald Trump and his group supported all across the country. This wasn't the right brand for republicanism. And I think Herschel Walker will probably go down as one of the worst Republican candidates in our party's history. All right, and that was not just some random Republican. That's the lieutenant governor of the state of Georgia, whose out there effectively campaigning against the party's nominee. Hayes leads Pistons to overtime victory over Mavericks

Well, as you know, we weren't allowed to come here for a long, long time. And that was funny, Eric, because the Brits allowed the Americans to go over there. But the Americans wouldn't allow us to come over. So we actually came for Thanksgiving with a family that we've done a bit of life with in Nashville. And so we do I know this family. Well, I don't think you do. Do you want to say their names on the air? They're called David and Dana, but when they're she was told to abort her baby. This was 12 years ago. And I was in England and I had a prompting of God to phone her because I felt something was wrong. She had just walked out of the hospital, the doctor said you got to abort your baby. And I said, well, is your life at risk? She said no. I said that means you can't do that. She agreed. I prayed for over the phone and the baby was born one pound 6 ounces. And so Killian and I came over to the hospital. I put my hands in the incubator. This is how many years ago? 12 years ago. I put my hands in the incubator, I held this one pound baby and prayed life. And that baby is now 12 years old. And David and Dana have been begging us to come for Thanksgiving to celebrate his life. And we managed to do it after 12 years. I have to say, this is what makes you you is that I just, I just start out I'm very silly and whatever.
