"Very hard to stop. this have is. I haven't i haven't seen it. But i yeah i'll watch. I will watch anything. You're saying the title of the movie or you could be like. Hey i'm going to go to the store. Oh i've seen that and you saying they don't make who-done-its anymore. They don't make like very like comedy leaning rom coms anymore like it's really so sad. There's one good one every lake ten years now. Yeah and as they don't even make non comic book movies anymore. Like all my. That's like all the movies. I grew up liking rob coombes. Who done it's legal thrillers and action movies. They just don't make anything like that anymore. It's insane did you see there's a lifetime. They're releasing holiday movies and all that kind of stuff stuff that they started filming recently and they're having the actress kiss through plexiglas and then remove the plexiglas imposts so it looks like you're actually kissing each other. Yeah i mean. That's the funniest thing i've ever heard my life. I mean their lips will be all mashed backwards. But somehow they're gonna take it yeah. What was your specific actors. But now i forget who it was but yeah. that's the. that's the plan. Just kiss them. Plastic like where's that plastic bin. I want the history of that plastic. All right coming up next another movie. that has a big cast of pretty famous people. And and chris evans is one of. Them's already kind of know where chris evans stands and go on today. It scott pilgrim vs the world. So good that's one of my favorites. It's a real go to for like just. If i just want to just have fun wash for being not so fun and it was the ten year anniversary of it was was recently so i i really watched it and it total. It's so good it's it's a jam did great take credit. What do you think. Let's start with john this round. Who do you think from. The amazing. Cast of scott pilgrim. Who would be number one number one. Why aubrey plaza. That's interesting pick. What do you think laurie say. Kieran culkin. oh that's so good great movie and he's great on Six yeah to keep my streak alive god. Jerry is so hot seriously. I want that exact dynamics yulia what do you think brie larson. I was hoping you go. Chris evans again. I see why can't 'cause he's he's wronged me. Okay you blamed him okay. Is everybody locked in locked. I find I find this very interesting coming in at number thirteen of the cast of that movie is michael sarah. Scott pilgrim himself chiller character. Yeah so he. He needs to do something he needs to. Because he's great and that's way too low but then let's jump all the way up to number four is She plays his sister anna kendrick in a very small role for her. But she's she's great like in that movie And then Number three which puts julia on the board i believe. Is bree larssen with a question. Mark at the. And then this is gonna this is a real heartbreaker number. Two is chris. Evans no way down number one and feel like this is. This is how this is the right thing to do..

"Which again is traditionally hard to predict? And Hey the Kamensky made a big showing but Joanna you wrote first surprises roundup about Game of thrones it's last-gasp but the Globes didn't turn out so well no I mean and I think once again that's that's the Globes ever especially the TV arm arm of the Globes there Kong fascinated with the new And so they don't really do that whole like. Oh it's your final season. Let's really send you out with a bang. They're like what's what's what's coming up. What's friends and so yes? The thrones got a single solitary nomination for Kit Harrington which I think is bananas and that's not it really a knock on kit who I think did have his best season of the entire. Rental given thrones is just like of all the of all the performances. I wouldn't have put kit as the the top of my list of of who would get in their over like Peter Dig Ledge or any of the women But that being said the the actress categories are really stacked this year because we have a lot of female lead perceives dramas You know kicking around got morning show big little lies or Killing Eve like all this stuff is is is going on right now. And and so. There's no room for the Queens of West Coast. But Yeah Kit Harrington. Being the single thrones nominee. Is I think an interesting little story this morning and presumably he won't win. I haven't looked at the like he might get beaten by any number of people like Billy Porter Brian Cox. So he'll just kind of be there. Is this weird. A holdover from thrones. Yeah it's fascinating to me. And the and then Brian Cox getting so Brian Cox and Kieran Culkin or the to Performance nominated firm succession. The you know a new the kid on the block but a lot of people are really. You know irritated this morning. The Jeremy Strong isn't in the league and Jeremy Strong who's so tremendous tremendous on that show like I feel like nominating Brian Cox and Kieran Culkin. Both fantastic on the show is kind of a move. You make if you don't watch accession but you've noticed accession. Jason is a show that people care about. And you're like Oh yeah okay. Brian Cox in the coking kid. The Kid Cheryl nominate them. But like if you watch the show there's no way. Oh you don't nominate Jeremy Strong over those two so it's a it's a little league. That agree with that problem for me is. There's so many we you know but then I'm just like what about Schiff for about Tom. What about cousin graph? There's just too many good good performances on the show but But Kieran Culkin is. Maybe it's like you know not the most refined pleasure but the pleasure of every single second. He's Onscreen as extreme. Our Love Kieran Culkin and I love. Brian Cox tremendous. I'm not. I'm not like knocking them. Getting nominated. What Jeremy Strong does with a glance is ridiculous? So but you're right. I mean there's any number of people were like can can we just dominate the whole. They don't have an ensemble award word of the glows that I feel like they really should. Because that's like that's a that'd be very friendly thing to do and then follow that something that we can also look forward to the side awards. Yes having on Samba Award and also we should remember that the succession got at zero acting. Nominations at the emmys which was so infuriating. So at least we've made your mistakes. Yeah Oh and same with nominating Andrew. Scott for FLEABAG which comes as a relief for how instrumental he is to that show and he? He's in the supporting category television which they mash everybody together on the same way they do you in movies. So it's like. Yeah this movie's so it's just kind of hilarious lineup of like Andrew. Scott for fleabag Alan Arkin for the kaminsky method. Kieran Culkin Stellan skarsgard. I sure noble and Henry Winkler for Berry like how in the world you stack those performance. I have now is the TV show. That showed up that I think castle out to deal with like star power more than it does like critical acclaim. Is The politician Annette flakes. which is you know the big the big you now Ryan Murphy bed plot Gwyneth paltrow sort of thing? That just really came and went like Netflix. I spent as much on the politician as they did on season. Three three of the crown. I think that's the stat and it just made not a single impact really when it when it debuted But here it is at the Globes and that is a classic Globes move. I think for that show so I love seeing Livia Coleman for the crown she so good meet them Carter and Tobias Menzies they They went as hard for the crown as you would. Maybe I hope for. I love seeing Kirsten Dunst for becoming a gun central Florida. That is the show that really flew under the radar. She is tremendous on that show so she's not going to probably win against like Natasha. Leona phoebe Rachel Brosnahan but I'm really excited to see her in there so but she might because you never know how about. But they're minor that Mr Robots still on where Malik shows up for actor in a drama series. It's true he's like you know maybe from window in at the Globes but you mean rhapsody Z.. Then mister robot so you never know I think that might that might be enough for our Globes conversation as it keeps the sandwich also coming later this week. There's also a bunch of critics prize is is that we will have another episode this week so we'll have plenty of time to get into all of that so look forward to it. I'm any other final globes thoughts Do you want to leave for now. Yeah I do want to ask one final question if you had to sing one of the nominated songs at Karaoke. Would it be beautiful ghosts from cats. I'm GonNa love me again. Rocket man into the unknown from frozen do spirit from the Lanqing or stand up from Harriet. Mike Hogan there would be none. It would be an UN nominated Being Alive live from company. I've been practicing it months. Actually eligible showed up on my spotify. Most listen to songs of the year do you do that. Driver doesn't do all the other parts. You like. You know Bobby. I can't quite and keep them and achieved that level of mastery. That's it's incredible rushing and again i. I didn't really know. This is the the most recent production ten years ago or whatever and so kind of recognize the song when he sang it in the movie. And since then I now know it by heart and so it's amazing to watch it again and watch all the voices of the other characters anyway. That's my favorite the musical moment and nothing will change it it is. I'm not kidding. You my favorite song for my favorite musical. So I'm really happy that it's your most listened song Westbound Five Katy Katy which Richard nominated song reducing carrier. I should mention I that you did mention cats. I mentioned the beginning. But we should note that cats got nominated for nothing but song And that seems weird and maybe not a great time for cats but also you know it's cats I would pick the recommend song you think is the easiest like that. Seems kind of like a Not like Elton hitting the high notes anymore. So I feel like I could handle it without embarrassing whistle too much. I would definitely do into the unknown from frozen to but I would do the panic at the disco. Oh version not not difference just like more rollicking guitars. I think It anyway that one. I know that I would with all the high notes and I don't WanNa put myself after that kind of scrutiny and Richard. Obviously I'm going to answer for Richard But obviously do beautiful. It.

Today is Thursday October seventeenth so Welcome to our podcast I'm your host Andy Lansner sorry he's supposed to be I figured they know my voice by now how is everyone so good everyone's getting is everybody notice a lightness about Andy Right now yes so so andy had what I think we were calling panic a bit of down a meltdown a bit of a full blown meltdown. You couldn't think about anything else couldn't let's talk about anything else called stagefright it's called discomfort and every once in a while you're walking through the grocery store and there's a three year old on the floor on his back and yelling so we are are we really competitive that cannot be easy and don't you feel badly for the parents is like they're trying to do their best and all that well we have been the parents in that paradigm apparently but nearing hate off this week was so good so Andy reluctantly kicking and screaming trying to get out of it finally yeah I don't have a brain that's at the end of the site that it's not the end of the sentence and I don't have a brain that does well with knowing I have something in the future I have to do that sounds insane but like even with weekend and anything that takes preparation or costume or performing is just as I've said before nothing yeah I've ever been comfortable with spontaneous who doesn't have to over think I just WanNa be WanNa be me right so it was it was all of that you almost forming for cat we this was all of the things you yes and that's what gave me the meltdown was the anxiety of I need to get this over with and also the panic that that we had taken a few days earlier and that there was the power possibly to edit out ellen asking me to do it and the and the refusing is that notion it seemed crazy the you even ask that right you you kept holding onto some thought that it was possible that it would go away and there was never going to go away and what Andy Did was spectacular an aunt ellen loves cat week really the only anything that we could have done to make ellen lay cow all sitting here talking about our camera and while we're sitting here talking about Andy Andy just reaches over sticks his arm in the trash can pulls out a two-thirds drunk Cana- perrier and I have a personal trash can next to where I sit right now the only things in there is a half a cup of coffee and a pair Yay and I got my little thirsty and I realized I must yeah I finished it off and I put it back in host range and the thing is we've been together a long time and time and he can and it's at some point there's nothing left to confound you know what I mean but this is not true with Andy never stops she's very.

"Hi everybody I M Peter Travers is this is popcorn where we tell you what is happening in the culture and I confessed this before this succession on. Hbo Is my favorite. It's my favorite series cheers. You people that are full of game of thrones. You just have to think of something else you know because this is it and in a really rare thing season two is actually actually better. She's in what cool also. I'm thrilled to have Kieran Culkin right here in this chair this one yeah. You've got a couple of people from the show L. in this chair. Haven't you yeah Brian had Nick Brown Bron. I if I had my way I have. Everybody should just bring them all work their way the way where are you gonna go. Here's here's the one who had the Golden Globe nomination. That's true. Did you Robin Thicke. It faces yeah. They were all so mean. They helped me down and kick me in the each one. Just wondering how that happens when you're on a show and then somebody get singled out do they just not mention it or do they say congratulations. Oh they all say congratulations and then. I'm taking off the box like who hasn't said it yet at six. PM Kim Jeremy Strong whereas my congratulations but they could say it in a certain way because none of that none of that none of nobody. It's just good if things happen grace happy if there's like nominations that come in great if they don't great job great like yeah. I think everybody's having a really great time doing it and it's also the kind of show that just feels really collaborative feels like everybody's making this thing so when something like that that happens like the Golden Globe thing happened. It really didn't feel like it was a meeting. It felt like Oh cool. The show got thing and I think that's me trying to be like I didn't and get an emmy nomination but I kind of did because we all we all did. It's all there. You sounded like you had years of therapy when you said that it was just a look I'm still searching for therapists found yeah well. You are from one of the most functional families on television. This is definitely the Roy's or the Kokin okay there's no. I don't know you'd be the best judge who is worse. what's a functional family. They just haven't seen one yeah. I don't know they're all might have moments of functionality but we don't yes and I think with this show. It's a bit like they're not more or less kind of with all their power and money and all that stuff they're still just like like the rest of us equally is thank you can say any. I just wanted to say that you came in saying it sounds rhythmic and melodic coming from Your Lips. It's just incredible but I need the money in Jilin and to set this up because there are still some people that haven't seen succession what I don't talk to them saying they haven't seen it. They're behind behind on season one but now season two comes season one had gotten you know a lot of attention but now people are watching it more. It's got five five emmy nominations including best series so I'm sure your heads are even more huge and yeah you never before amazing racing with the biggest thing ever game of what people see you on the street. Do they recognize you now as Roman. Yeah I've gotten a few of those. and mostly people call me. That's actually happened a lot and it's not it's like I feel like they almost feel like you know Wallace Shawn Being People Oh yelling inconceivable at him when he walks on the street one thinks and they're like the first one to do that right like that. Show you're like. I know that's the show I mean. I realize I don't know but the the guy sure is high saw somebody mistake someone for you and rory said to his it could have been right yeah. I don't think so I would have known and they said there's no succession and I thought again. One of the great great compliment would be new. I haven't heard that one. I feel like they said no you the past when you were hailing a cab today. There's there's Mike that was great but his insults are just golden. They're just wonderful. When Roman says something to you. Yeah it's pretty great just no filter whatever comes comes to the brain and he handled the brother who is going through so many traumas and and is in Rehab and everything is happening and you know he's unshaved unshaved candle. He's looks like this do you help them to create these There's like okay so they write. It and it's pretty horrible. Some of the things things that Roman has to say and then some of the other writers they start throwing alternative lines out there and to my mind I think they would deny this but they get a little competitive with each other about like who can come up with the most horrible thing and then I want to play the game and I like throwing my horrible things that I can say from looking at what the guy dressed and stuff so sometimes. I don't like to let like if I'm insulting the actor. I don't like to let them know when it's mine and when it's there's sometimes if it's too insulting on Mike that wasn't me that we're not. GonNa use uh-huh well good goals. Try to make the extra go along because I have so many questions and I don't WanNa be too inside baseball just because the show's not what about me and it should be what I'm interested in yourself but yes it should but didn't allow but we should see a clip of you so so let's see here. He is Kieran Galkin in succession season two so you're not using. That's me that's me I recognize I yeah yeah look at that your idea to just sit on the yeah. I improvised that sitting up there. How cool probably with the glove in on the water just went right up. Stay saying that it's interesting because but those of you I haven't watched it yet the PEOP- The kids in this family this whatever it is it is an empire. I guess it is all want to take daddy's place place sure what's the case. You can make for Roman don't you. I think in a way he's sort of the most like his dad. which you know. I think that a lot of times makes really quick decisions and sort of just goes with gut sometimes and can be a real Pani. Ask kind of scary and I think Roman has that thing where sometimes if you know you get his attention. He's GonNa rip any. You and it can be a little scary so I don't know. I think there's a case for him. I thank you know he's done but he's smart. I think he knows how to basically a situation to his advantage and his advantages the companies then you know hearing you have this career. I mean everybody remembers you and your brother and home alone and we see that and that was just child actor stuff but I remember you most from Igby. It goes down and I saw that movie. I love the whole movie but what you didn't it was just amazing. Well thank you seemed to disappear yeah what what thousand to two thousand and two then where is he. What did you did dropped off the map kind of did like a bit of a freak out that movie came out when I was twenty and I kind of remember there were like some projects lighting up that I was suddenly being offered offered instead of auditioning for and that was a strange thing and I can't remember who but somebody used the word career and now I have a career. I found myself like twenty. I'm doing it for like fourteen years and never once made that decision for myself and I was like I don't. I never even questioned if this is something I want to do and I kinda just looked out and I think learned that a lot of people around that age kind of freak out about what they wanna do with their lives. I was just already kind of doing it but having having that same freak out at the same time but you're living it I mean because McCauley's started it in your family right. We actually started around the same thing yeah but his his success in home alone and I think the thing with that too is when I've always said that. If you get to witness or experience fame fame like that secondhand you would never pursue it. I don't think that's a nice thing like that's not exactly a nice thing that happened to him. At the age of not not in it wasn't nice for him to walk down the street and people like chase him and stuff. That wasn't that Nice so I'm if I'm sort of figuring this out now in real time. Maybe you're my founded charge anytime. You're great but it's that. I think if I started to find if I'm fit go back now and think about it when I was twenty. I started finding myself to be a little successful in things. We're coming probably had a bit of a panic. Let's roll this back when he tried to get some control over it because I've seen it. Get completely out of control with like a child what was happening in your family. You brought that up before who was saying to all of view you should act. You should be in this well. My father was an actor before I think he actually comes from a family of actors or performers of some kind of sort of like you know glass family type thing I think him and his three siblings all did some to some extent kids and then if I'm remembering correctly and sometimes times again information wrong like the are some neighbors ran over the stage managers of the theater nearby in the neighborhood so I think it got to a point was I was like. Oh we need a kid. I show my neighbor's got seven of them name of sex and age we got take here yeah and my father then kind of pushed that he like took headshots of us in like. I think it was like Rupert Park in New York and sent us on auditions and stuff and it actually kind of happened pretty quickly. You weren't born scarred by the family experience. No I just think it's like not a good relationship with dad no not with that but not not for that reason. He wasn't a good person overall but for that that kind of stuff. I think that was okay. I think at least my experience I actually can't really talk about what the siblings I think. It's funny is growing up at the family. You seven in all seven of us have living in the same place but having very different experiences I just think mine was maybe a little less complicated for like a kid.

You seven in all seven of us have living in the same place but having very different experiences

"Many good ideas that are like innovative need to be proven to people because they can't wrap their head road. I mean and actually go back to sign. I just read this whole thing about how Seinfeld was like totally not going to happen at all except for like one person came from who is in charge of it came from an area where he'd been doing like comedy specials and all sorts of different things and was able to let's just try this and then gave them gave him four episodes or something. But then like it wouldn't have happened. Otherwise, look, I'm all over the place on Seinfeld. I'm a big fan of older, man. Seinfeld. Bummer married to a woman who's a an appropriate age. Oh, good friend. We all went through our phase where we dated seventeen year olds. Mine was when I was seventy. At thirty four. Demi moore. Oh my God. Yes. Actually, we just boys could tend day shoot and at the beginnings. Hello, miss more. And then a day ten dummy back to one. She was like, so cool. And like really was like for sure the most season person there of just being on shoots and stuff. Just kinda showing us teaching us the way it is just a really great moment. Went to fame blown series. Regulars from voice from guys became series regular actors over currying, whatever and then working with Demi Moore. I remember Mel Rodriguez another regular in the live action. And I guess he didn't know it seems like people come into our show. Just kind of like whatever that too. Sure, I understand why regular. Like, yeah, I feel like you guys. I mean, granted you have the material to prove to these people that you guys are making good stuff. But at the same time like if you watch one clip of your show and say like, hey, do you wanna be on the show? It's on HBO. These are the people who've done it, you're like. Oh, yeah. Fuck. Yeah. And then show up and you're like, wait, I'm in the live action. Yeah. We definitely have a good pitch Email for for the for the show. I think at this point everything gets bigger bigger. All right. Yeah. The people that you keep adding wise cheeses like Jessica chest aid season one. And like nobody knows that. This turk. It's like a dramatic role a Turkey like going to her death. And it's incredible. And it's opposite. Danny mcbride. Any McBride benching her death? It's a good movie. Movie. Spinoff, we need to break. We're yes, we are. Okay. So what are you watching? Now is question. We would like to ask you is there anything you're super into just finished succession on our parents network. And it's it's so great. I I really love it. Because of I for my money. It's the best mix of like dramatic gripping television and equally like fast smart funny. Like it hits my my veep. "You know, it's really just a concept and a name they hired a really certain highly pedigree Asian American screenwriter to basically have add it all and they want to this is cynical. They're like, let's Black Panther it. Yeah. But okay, why not right? Let's see what let's see. What happens? It's more of a blank slate. And it's which is only to say that going forward that's possible. This captain marvel thing is tough beat because they're like we're going to introduce you to the most one of the most crucial characters for. Carry all of this and make an independent and make the person she's the ghostbuster that they call it the end of the last vendors. So let's talk about Golden Globes before we get into the favorite to Mazel. But I'm not allowed to talk about human rhapsodies stunning. I don't care best drama television series. Going nominations was Americans bodyguard. No commentary from you. Well, I'm just to the NAM's Americans bodyguard homecoming killing posts. Best comedy, Barry. Good place. Kidding, the Kaminsky method? I mean and the marvelous MRs Mazel that's this year's marvelous. Mrs basil that just came out yesterday. Is it is it isn't that? How one last year? Didn't it? Yeah. So that's what this is. Okay. I mean, they also nominated vice for a bunch of stuff vices available. Vice isn't going to be out until Christmas. I mean, I we say this the biggest biggest shock here is that. They're no Atlanta. No Brian tire. Henry no Alanna Glover got for actor. They pretty much ignored Atlanta. They also Nord succession for what it's worth no Kieran Culkin got nominated. Okay book. I say this every year. I'll say it again there is no greater cultural thority than a ragtag anonymous group of aging or straining do this because you're just isn't it isn't what we think it is it isn't. And the one thing that we don't know about this. And by the way, I actually don't know if this group of voters is any better or worse than the much more official pedigree academy of television arts and scientists voters because ultimately, it's a grab bag, right? And the benefit of having this done by a group of strangers is interesting things. Bubble to the top. Yeah. Which can matter. It can affect every year. I say this. But. Golden Globes are wear shows. Get there I'm being taken seriously debut and some of the actors and actresses can start the narrative or after the narrative around like their their story. Homeland won best drama a few weeks or months after premiered mister robot won best drama a few months after premier it can mean to show to Mazel one last year the conversation that we're gonna have about Maysville momentarily the conversation that's been in the press about it is directly affected by its presence of the Golden Globes last year. And of course, it's actually one at the Emmys as well it's super random, and the thing that you can never talk about really or account for is that lobbying makes a difference. Now, we live.

"In fairness to you, it's because you can. But it's, I mean, it's, it's also it's good to know your own boundaries a little bit and to expand them into work on that because nobody can do everything. It's like you're always you. And so it was really an important lesson for me learn because I, after that, I realized there are certain things that at certain moments in your life, your you really can't do. And sometimes there are certain things that are a great combination of time and place, and that's what ceremony was and what am I best friends did worked in the wardrobe department, which is so funny Livia levian, Nick. And I only found that out after the screening where we were talking and she said, oh my God, it because you live together, you lived in a house, I guess, are a lot of the house. So the odds of that. Yeah, that's so funny. Yeah, knows a great shoot. We, we all we shot on Long Island Sound. And always to obey and max and met Spicer, and their assistant lived in one house and myself Reece Thompson, Jake Johnson leap as all lived on another house. So it was very much like adult. I love it boy Cam. But you started real real young, real young and we were discussing. We were wondering what your methodology was when you were two and three years old. Learn your lines where you'll method actor, then you really need to get into it. The truth is that at first I didn't care. Right. Well, because too I was I was five. I was five. I started and I was five and I just enjoyed it and had a lot of fun. And it was a great excuse to not go to school right. And did you have a stage mother or state? Father? I had two of them. And they were both and continue to be the exact. Opposite of most stage parents. Yeah, it was. It was almost as if we were like the antisocial stage duo of parent and child because they weren't about the gossip and you would see all the same kids going from audition to audition in New York. I mean, there were there were days in Manhattan where me and my dad driving me or my mother driving me where I would go on five auditioners a day and you. So you just see the same, the same, the same people, and I remember being in a waiting room with with one of these. Familiar faces and talking to them about what they wanted to be when the crew up. And they asked me, and I said, I don't know. I think an actor and they said, and I said, what about you? And they said, oh, definitely a lawyer. And I just remember thinking then, why are you here? Yeah. What what are you? What are you doing here? So I had a when I really, I started, I just had fun and probably really enjoyed the attention and also loved movies, and I loved it felt like I was like, I started as a model and I remember as a little Ford model the way I enjoyed. You know, taking pictures was like recreating scenes for movies, so they would just take pictures of me, you know, recreating scenes from movies, and that's, I don't know. It was kind of it was kind of. I guess just I dunno it. My own joy perpetuated. My always continuing to work because I once I started, I never stopped it. No, you really haven't. Did you how old you reckon you were when you we started. Really appreciating where you were what you were doing, who these people were surrounding you. I remember exactly there are even know it. It's such a long span. There are definitive moments, and the first definitive moment was when I got cast in this film called music of the heart with Meryl Streep that Wes craven directed. It was originally called fifty violins and Madonna was originally starring in, hey, things change. Things change. But I had to learn how to play the violin for the role and sort of Merrill and soda. So did all of us Kieran Culkin had played the cello. It was the hardest thing maybe to this day that I've ever done those three months of violin lessons..

If you wanted to make make time to appear on that show, you could also she wouldn't do it either way. Honestly, I don't need to be on the hills. Reboot Elsie was never that interesting to begin with. They don't have either is insane. It's just money. They don't have Whitney. Who was he was always the sounding board of them. What did you do this weekend? Lauren. Loren Loren. "This is true, and I think they wanted Anthony, Michael hall to play Farris. But both of those guys had done well, Mike, Anthony, Michael hall, he'd done maybe four movies with Hughes in them points bunch. He wanted to move on and I think Amelia was offered repo, man. Remember that picture horse. Yeah. And so they wanted to do different things. And so then they picked Broderick, and then I wrote his coat tails well, as a twenty picture is a twenty nine year old. And then now succession Allen rock. What is it like working with Brian Cox? I'm such a big fan of his man mean everybody on this show. Is incredibly funny, incredibly talented. They're all sweethearts, which is great because we're a bunch of bastards even Kieran Culkin. Yeah. I mean, yeah, could not be more. No, he's he's a sociopath on the show, but just a funny and lovable which balances everything out, you know, and adds a little bit of that humanity seeps through all the wretchedness you know. So maybe at some, you know, we're complaining at the beginning of the season. There's nobody that's likable, nobody to root for, but maybe after a while was sort of will grow on people, you know. But Brian Cox, I love him. You know, he's world-class actor. He's incredibly generous, and I find this with with people that are very top of sort of the heap. They tend to be very generous and they're all about the storytelling. They're just there because they love to do what they do, and that's all it is just telling stories, you know, and no drama, the drama is in front of the camera. It's not off stage, which is the way you want it. Of course, an HBO succession again. The first season's already done airing on HBO but you can catch it on HBO. Now HBO tunes Google play. "And you know, try to succeed him. This show starts off seeming like it's just another. I didn't know what you call it like, you know, rich people, porn type story like wealth, well, foreigner, something and it quickly transforms into something very different. I think it's really interesting like what it does I gave billions of shot. You know a couple years ago when I hear that show got better over time, but I was never really into like, how was that was really into the glam of that life and you know, bad people being bad people, but also like really reveling in it in a way where's this show this entire family is filled with sociopaths. And what's really interesting is seeing how Bill kind of like, you know, try to survive while not having all the functions that he normal human being would have, and also being in this weird bubble where they just don't know what the rest of the world is like, because they are very, very rich in anything they can do they can. They can pretty much do anything as you'll see in the season. At one point, one character says, being riches like a superpower and I thought, man, that is that's actually a very good point, at least in the way America works right now. So I think overall, this show is a great exploration of like, you know, the post capital era. The post capitalistic era we're in right now, and the cast is amazing. Brian Cox, just like being his full on like hard core strongman, but let me see here, Jeremy. Strong plays his second son seconds, son. He's the one that's trying to really finagle to take control the whole business Wilson here Kieran Culkin who's amazing and exactly like when you cast Kieran Culkin to be in a role, he sort of like these scrip guy, but still ends up failing upwards and away perfectly cast here. Sarah snook, who I really enjoy. She's been in a in a bunch of stuff lately. Great. Strong cast in Matthew McFadden as the guy, Matthew McFadden. I just have to say it is really great seeing him. I love him so much. I've also I saw him back in spook spec in the day when spooks was trying to be like the twenty four successor on the UK side. But most recently he's been a ton of like historical dramas. Most recently in Howards end. It is really hilarious to see. Matthew McFadden play like an in-law. He is dating Sarah, snicks character, and he is kind of in idiot, but also kind of more relatable than everybody else in the family. And there are points where he gets to have his own little antisocial tendencies come out to you. It's just seeing like the lowest person. The rung, Hugh clearly sees a weaker fish and is just like, I'm gonna give fuck this guy's life up a little. That is so much like there's so much going on the show. I think it starts off pretty strong. It feels like the pilot is trying to little too hard with what they're trying to do, but it really matures over time. This is the show that is definitely worth like investing a bunch of time in and it was created by Jesse Armstrong who co wrote for lions also worked on peepshow back in the day and yeah, and the thick of it. So like this is a guy who knows his like political satire and the show just transforms into being like this. Wonderfully dark comedy about the verily fucked up people who could just never really be happy. Even though they have everything in the world, it's tremendous goes places. You wouldn't expect highly recommended, man. Do you just I mean, I've been on the fence about like, should I watch us? But now watch you just so much the sharp objects to I'm not caught up with. We haven't talked about that. That's also very good. Yeah. I think we mentioned that you mentioned that you compared it to like sip in whiskey. I watched the first episode. Sharp. Sharp objects was really impressed by it. But yeah, I gotta catch up man. Gotta catch up with all the stuff gotta catch up. So that's succession. It's on HBO. Go only ten episodes..

"Camera follows only him both the character and the actor seemed completely when not the character but the way the characters pitch so the writers who are writing him understand this and the actor embraces it ego free because he's a do f the time you know and the the the ballet that he's dancing on the tightrope of donald trump junior is so well and they end channel but but artfully done show is is rightfully compared to arrested development in its setup but what's interesting is he should be michael booth but he's playing him as job in the streets and george michael and the sheets you know he's playing like this like complete buffoon whenever he walks into a conference room and he's making like leo lifeboats in and all this stuff about vaulter fusco is weird hiphop slang that he dropped but then when he's in private he's this sort of ineffectual kind of sensitive guy yeah and he's a guy who you have what's dooming him is that he actually does seem to have some selfawareness unlike all the other people around him yeah they're also some great supporting performances i mean i i'm here for kieran culkin and just about anything it's a wonder that it took this long from to get a regular series role maybe it's because he was waiting for part like this is it sarah snook is it was really an actress who plays shift who's terrific terror and nothing mcfadden is just talk about like a like a dion waiters award like a guy i talked about this guy because i'm watching the show and there's a supporting character tom who's just again you watch the pilot and you consider what this part could be were introduced as characters basically a brown noser the performance is so good that he's now the character i'm most interested in yeah and he is coming off of a lovely lovely performance in howards end as leader he's british yes and he was in i think he's a mr darcy in the past and prime prejudice i knew that amanda thinks really highly of him in that and i was sort of surprised to see him in this i thought he was kind of like i thought he was.

"Shot in the style of and comes to us via adam mckay and it's shot in the style of big short even though jesse armstrong is largely like creditors like the creator writer showrunner person and one of the criticisms of the big short was that the people who your quote unquote cheering for could also be described as if not culpable for the crash at least giant beneficiaries of it and they're somber kind of like we'll be really did that i still think about like the christian bale character that end card for him that he's shorting the water market basically now as like this chilling kind of like to what end you know and we're supposed to sort of be into it because he he was right but at the same time it's like did any of these guys do enough to stop it and is at the very fact that they can short this thing part of the problem with this doesn't do that which again might be something that's almost consciously often like you bring up the camera work which is very jittery and held weirdly the showed reminded me the most of his friday lies petersburg i'm literally roy on the improv or is this just really well written and then improv and then written again or like it was it has that like it it's it's a very interesting style but even like the color palette it's not glossy like billions is glowing and everything is weight or technicolor and you just get lost in this world in the camera movements very confident sort of not static but not like hand held the way succession is and i feel like that goes towards making this not aspirational but then what you're just left with at least a start is these like incredibly loathsome people like kendall just has this gaping hole of insecurity kieran culkin is being here in culkin the sister i actually think she's the most compelling although like nicknaming someone shiv which i'm not acceptable for chevanton.
