Reel News: The Invisible Man
"Light and Kevin Carr is with us with a look at the new movie the invisible man so I saw the trailer Kevin it doesn't look like the old Claude rains or the more recent Kiefer Sutherland version of the invisible man story good morning Michael yes this is a brand new interpretation of the invisible man obviously based on the original idea H. G. wells original book from over a hundred years ago but like you said it's it's not exactly the same thing you get with the Claude rains version although that's probably one of my favorite ones even holds up today in this one it takes a different approach to the story where instead of it just being a person who used chemicals to turn himself invisible and go insane which is what the original story is it's about a woman who's in a toxic relationship an abusive relationship and when she tries to escape her abusive husband her diesel has been finds a way to tracker and stalker while being invisible and of course everybody else thinks she's going insane so they approach it less is a science fiction peas and more as a thriller or a horror movie and I think that's interesting because I think they give it a different angle gives a new perspective Elizabeth moss please a woman she was a really fantastic job acting and overall I I think it's good it's like I said it's it's it's a different offshoot of different way this person becomes invisible but I think it's certainly worthy of the original idea the H. G. wells had of somebody in saying who you can't see how many how many goose bumps are we giving the invisible man you know I'm surprised by one of my favorite invisible man's movies and over eighty years so I'm gonna give it four out of five stars I really enjoyed it well how many goosebumps so goose bumps I don't know I

"I'm in virtually every scene for three you are every seen the writing as you're going. I'm just delivering the words of other people. Yeah, they've come up with. But it's great. I loved win those two. I'll tell you. Yeah. Yeah. I highly recommend. Yeah. You get the chance, which you haven't yet. For the show, I recommend you winning it. Did you give a speech? I did. I gave. I gave that speech. You like who you think I think my parents, and I told him I was gonna give it to them. And then it did. Okay. Yeah. Sincere. Did you keep the second cat, the second one, I have a second one way or is it when I walk into Eric Stonestreet mansion? Do I know window? I know what you do for a living when I walk into your house. That's a great question. Well, I mean. Winning trophy for what you do is slippery slope because, as you know, based on all this show that I've seen today, people desire to win Emmys, and when they don't they're not real super stoked about it. So my, my feeling is. I won this EMMY I have to display it somewhere, but not like in your face. Because if I don't, if I put it in the bathroom, the laundry room, that's disrespectful to other people that would gladly win that me like you guys. Yeah, you know. So I have it on my mantle in my on my living room. I never go into okay because it's a mentioned it is. It's not a bit who. Do you live? I might be impressed with. Oh, Kiefer Sutherland neighbor across the street. Yep. Have you been invited to parties over there? Yeah. I just was over there. He walked by my house, and we happen to be out and he was, like come by leaving town. I'm never in town combined have have a drink. So I was like, Kiefer Sutherland might you over to have a cocktail you go. Did you bring your Emmys? Yep. Well. He's got him to. Yeah. We got those the coolest thing where I live in LA is to Luca lake and it's just an old school neighborhood. But across the street from me is the original property that ROY Walt Disney owned and started selling off to finance Walt Disney studios. Anyway. Cool story. I know. Yeah, anybody else. Interesting around you. Let's see. The Disney story didn't really. It's interesting to me, because I worked for ABC who's owned by Disney and right across the street is yeah. Wow. Yeah. So any interesting people besides Kiefer Sutherland McCarthy, Steve crow oh Tricia, Heaton. Oh, Octavia Spencer. What do you want me to do you keep going? No, it's pretty pretty good. Yeah. J my neighbor. Jay Goldberg oak. Great guy. Yeah. Jane Trudy is Matt Walsh, in your Matt Welsh is in my thought so have you been over to Matt's house? No yet been invite me. But he just told me where he lives come over into your last week. He's a great guy. He's a he's a great guy. Have you guys ever had a material on modern family? Where you said we can't do that. Kyw Bosch because it's network TV. Yeah. Well, we've shot things that didn't make the cut because standards and practices probably jumped in and said, no, thank you know, at the time, yeah, it's pretty crazy. They had I can't remember the, the perspective of like how fit, but it was a flashback of me dressed full on native American crying, member, the commercial native American cried because littering it was a, you You know. know. To that. But at some point, they realize like probably shouldn't do that it got cut out the soda, did you agree? Yeah. Because everybody's gets canceled. You know, so you got to. Got a doubt of the, the, the mob the culture, you know, the when did you guys know you're successful. I would say, I knew when Ed O'Neill called me and said, if the show's not on for ten years, I don't know what the home doing in this business. I trusted he would know that. So I knew we were had a good shot..

"We got the guy and it's the pizza guy from the beginning. You're like no, it's not. It's Keyser saw them at the end ago. It was actually Kiefer Sutherland. Yeah, that's sounds hired him to do the voice ever knows a Kiefer Sutherland sound, Joel Schumacher movie. I think so. Yeah. The guy who basically single handedly ruined Batman air. You get help evolved. Sorry, what he was meant to be speaking of Batman. They ripped off the jokers villain plot for the end of this move. Oh, yeah. They full of gas. Yeah. Oh, also. They have been in eight also anime. Did anyone was weird that they had the fake movie from home alone in this movie I think that's kind of fun. Really the movie doesn't have anything to do with home alone. They just needed someone saying, Hello. It's a weird evolution of the. It felt like they got tricked into thinking that was an actual film new arm. They're like, oh, it'd be cool, if we reference to film, more moving in our home alone now, but then they were like they're like, what about the movie from home alone? We should do that one not realizing that, that's a fake movie for home alone. Yeah. Straight, they could have done any new are they could've done any, nor send-up. It could have just been the director loving that and being like, that's my thing who loves thing within the thing, it's like I don't know. I was weird cowboy movie and Logan. Whereas, like I don't know what that is that can be real or fake. But is obviously making. Yeah, but imagine I forget imagined a cowboy movie from Logan was from home alone. It's also been twenty two years since I've seen home alone. I don't know. I just thought it was really weird. Anyway. I also I think the biggest for me the biggest plot hole of this whole movie because some of its predictable, but most of it holds up. Sure. There's a lot of points for someone just walks into a room in some walks up and goes, here's your next clue Harry Potter. Yeah. All the Harry Potter. It was like a big three d hologram explaining the plot when they would get to hologram machine doesn't make sense. It find it if you think about how we're like, but it was the only one kids understand and want to make sure that eight year old and but front row understands the plot of this movie. Right. When he's banging Pika chew toys together having the time of his life. But in this, so in this world someone they, they declare people dead having not found anybody's, correct. You're like it's like authors. Dead. And so is his Pokemon Pokemon partner? They're like, now we didn't find anything at the scene of the crime, just an empty car, but he's dead. Yeah. I shouldn't do. It was going to be a police cover up and then it wasn't. That's what I thought too. I was like, okay. Tanabe was going to be a bad guy. And he he turns out he just bad at his job. Yeah. Probably. But that's the kind of thing were that was on a dry erase board. And it had a circle around it for like six months. Now we need to resolve this. We need to resolve this. Let's not address it at all. I mean I thought the biggest plot hole was at the end. He got his dad back, just because his son showed up me too was, like, if you bring me the sun, then the dad will that doesn't make any sense, so ever, I thought. Yeah. Some sort of explanation. They're right that because they're genetically related. They can hear each other. That's the well I get here. The kind of he inhaled all that gas..

And it's like the secret is that you're in it, you know, but it's more just like a fun side project. That's supposed to kind of like speak for itself. But the fact that he's literally coming out as like, I'm Kiefer Sutherland, the country star proves that he has no sense of humor, which we already knew because he's like kind of shitty guy in real life grows bound was called. What was it called? Can you goes know, the crows thirty foot of grunts? That's so that's like hilarious. Right. Because that's not catchy. It's not good has nothing to do with Russell Crowe. And it's like the surprise where you he Russell coaches happens to be in the band is like kind of what's charming about that? This is like so fucking self-centered that I hate him for it. You know, because he's like I wanna be a country star. So you're kief. It's Kiefer Sutherland, you know, hit Dennis Quaid was called Dennis Quaid's, the sharks. Fortunately, fortunately, I just did. I searched daddy actors in bands. And I was like well this give me some results did. So I got twenty three actors who are also in bands, and it's on dot com. And most of them are young and two too young to support these. So I'm going to skip them. But there's Johnny Depp member his vampires. Yes, of course, I do that was a he had a good lineup where he got a lot of people to do that with him. Kevin bacon. The bacon brothers. Yes. I'm looking for older people because there's a lot of like, Michael, Sarah. Juliette lewis. Juliette Lewis is a great example, she had the licks or whatever. And that was like she had like legit music. Exactly. But Bruce will want to sell albums was called the return of Bruno which always thought was funny so stupid. Nobody saw this. I put this in the dog. He started in two thousand two he launched a small record label. I'm quoting Kapadia called ironworks recording descript distribute music by local musicians and tennis star it as a good guy. Just like it was a it's an earnest interest in music, and then he like helped out other musicians, which I find charitable that's nice of him to do that. And then he was like, no I want to do this myself. So he released his first album in twenty fifteen twenty sixteen and it did fine. And then he released this one just a couple of weeks ago, and it's already like in the top ten in Germany. I mean, Germany come on never like come on come on. But I put this in here too. Because there is another key Sutherland peg, which is that keeper Sutherland has met gala drama from lasts. Earlier in the decade. Did you see this now that trouble in two thousand nine I put two dozen seven year, but it was two thousand nine because he head butted a fashion designer. And got arrested. He is the fuck and he's a fucking drunk. He's a known drunk also. And do you know, why did you see why the headbutting happen? Did you read because designer bumped into Brooke Shields? So it was an after party after the gala a designer bumped into Brooke Shields and didn't say I'm sorry. Of the designer how to bump into Brooke Shields and not say sorry. I book shield. I'd be like, please don't do that might be half. The theme. This year was the model is museum body fashion. I found some good looks at your one was Ambrose and Kanye west together. They both adorable. So young look young. They look and Hathaway. I actually really remember this look, but just because it was like big hair and funny because they all look so basic compared to like yesterday, but that's like what old photos look like who was his girlfriend on Bono revere. Who's that dated for like four years? She was in media some she worked at some like fashion publication for a while. But the thing about Kiefer Sutherland though, in in his country music is like not all country music is Republican, but Kiefer Kiefer Sutherland's hundred music as Republican do you mean, it has like very strong Republican energy..

What are we doing two thousand? Okay. Here we go start. Here we go Kiefer Sutherland Scherzer on twenty four oh, all isn't his name. Like, bo. Now, not boring next one. She's recording artist one, oh, no two thousand lane now. Used to host the daily show, Jon Stewart. Yes. Michael chiklis sort this about a cop show on FX. Oh, the yes. The book that became a movie. I think Julia Roberts about a woman that goes to find yourself three. Yes. You just had her name hit me. Yes. Tita face TV show on NBC. Yes. New York show to me. Rope star. But. Rally nicely. At all. Window. Can't see. All the gray. You. Well. It's not so bad. It's not so bad bad, by the way, not a song should ever doing karaoke. No my God. It's so long. It's long it snowed darts. Very dark. Tell me. How long it is? Chorus, jim. A sampling seemed to go on forever. Beginning to of thought to do that at the same time. All right. You've never heard STAN. Yeah. I. Damn you. Without john. Yes. At the Grammy. Yeah. Sar squashed the beef. Right. That's right. Yeah. Right. So like Elton John sang the chorus, and then he did the the versus. That was the craziest fast food tagline squash the beef and nearly. Also, the worst joking. A lot of things. Before you go. "So that whenever there is like a big meeting of congress where you've got the president and the vice president and all congress together and in one big room for a state of the union address that type of thing they always have at least one, I don't know. How many I know there's at least one person who is fine. Yes. Stays behind in a like, a secure bunker somewhere. So that should something awful happen to all or many of the people who are who are there for the state of the union that our government as a whole like we would still the the the mantle. Oh of president would fall upon this question person. If somehow if there were any unlikely event out of an abundance of caution in the unlikely event that the entire line of succession gets down to say, the secretary of energy or what what is he the environment? He's gone like derives, right? Dr. The house like you've got all the way down like eleven people die right phone, right? So the so the order of succession, by the way, it's obviously the the president. But after that, president vice president and the house president protests. Yeah. Secretary state secretary of Treasury Secretary of defense attorney general secretary of the interior of agriculture of commerce of labor of health and human services of housing and urban development, which is what he is gripping the bottom of the success rate, transportation education, energy, education, veteran's affair and finally homeland security will the guy Kiefer Sutherland, I think is the housing and urban development. And he was the one who was the president who. Right. Dr carson. Yeah. So, but that's how. That's how it it. It happens in this show is that something happens, and the this this keep seven's character is winds up being president. But there's a there's a another why why why the recommendation well? There is no you'd said that there's something seriously certain certain conditions under which I feel the show should be watched. And here's here's how it should be one. Okay. Is a point a decision point every night where you say to yourself. Everyone else has gone to bed. I show at TV. I concentrate on TV, I just kind of let fly, but yeah, I should probably could have bad but God damn it. I don't feel like it yet. I want to put something on that. I don't need really paid super close attention to. So I don't feel awesome Ziff. I maybe dozed off for a minute or two. I'd wake up Bill, but I wouldn't be completely lost. And that if I don't totally remember what happened in the episode from last night. I'm still pretty much able to watch tonight. This is the perfect show for that. It's perfect. You just you can you can kinda watch it and in under those circumstances. I've been really enjoying it. Not right. That's I that's a great recommendation and great conditions for the recommend. Yeah. So that's my second one. Do you have anything to recommend trying to think of what recent media stuff have? I particularly liked on kind of unprepared. What have I still watch a lot of YouTube at night? I told Roderick yesterday. I watched watched several videos of different peoples. Lists of the best Russia albums and why so kind of going back and listen to the Senate to some rush trying to think of what I've done recently. Let me go look at Spotify. Actually got some good stuff in there recently played gosh, I sure like Spotify icon yea, you got rush points. Strange. What isn't isn't on their teenage fan club? Hold steady. Beatles worth driver, nothing. No nothing into new. There's a new season a top chef out. Oh, yeah. We were watching that. We our daughter has been listening to the music from the musical mean girls. "So this kind of like a whole tension between them, and she's very conservative and sort of pro war, and is advancing this policy that's kind of like the Patriot Act in the US. It's like to allow people to spy on their own citizens to fight terrorism. So is the sort of terrorism undercurrent to the whole thing. And then she's at risk. And then they, of course, become kind of involved, and then shit just goes wild from there. I can't even be good. I I thought thought it was. I was four even more than twenty four. It's far better done than twenty four. It's really well done. It just interview all twenty four because I've watched every single. Watched enough twenty four, but we don't even get into comparison yet. Actually, I think we do I think we should do. Tony. I love that show. It's stupid. And this show is kind of stupid in the end. If you once you've watched all the reveals and the twists you start to think about them, and some of them don't make any sense, or at least don't really hold up, but twenty four in the moment watching it, though, it's very well done and unlike twenty four I think anyways, it's actually really well acted the two leads are amazing and kind of compelling just on scraping Kiefer Sutherland is not a good actor. I think that his performances Jack Bauer is kind of ridiculous. And I guess maybe if they're additional seasons of bodyguard that it will become more ridiculous strikes me as a very good one and done. And I think if they're gonna make more seasons I'm going to not really even be interested. But anyways, kind of like a mix show, it's kind of kind of grimy that you're you're very lucky that I'm not gonna interrupt you and just rave about Jack Bauer right now go I was really just I'm just baiting. You this is like when you tell me assassin's creed. But then the Witcher three and just going to constantly subtly Vate you into going on here just digressions twenty. But anyways. So kind of grimy in that way of like it's things that are about terrorism. But don't really have anything to say about geopolitics or what's really happening, and they just reviews as window-dressing there's a couple of plot. Turns said really turn me off. I thought we're just kinda shitty. But then also there's a lot of great acting and some really good twists, and they're having a lot of fun. And this is a very much anything goes feeling to it. That's pretty exciting. It's only six episodes. I watched it over thanksgiving when I was just on the plane it made for a really good sort of travel show. So anyways, kind of mixed on it. But I found it pretty entertaining. And the other thing is we finished watching sheera. The new Netflix sheera, which is fantastic. I think a ton of stuff has been written about this show already. I don't have a whole lot to add. I just found it really refreshing my nieces or both watching, and it's really cool that they're watching a show like this the show runner is a gay woman. So that show itself just has a lot of sort of sexuality and gender stuff. That just is very, you know, they're in their own fantasy kingdom and everything is just it's like a world without the patriarchy..

It take a lot more money than that to get me to hang out in a coffin for thirty hours. But you know, I'm at the point now in life too. I watch it on TV like when I was young didn't mind me, I'd crawl under my bed and crawl into spaces doesn't matter. But now, I'm older when I watch on TV like movies like there's a movie with Kiefer Sutherland, Sandra. Bullock in it where he gets buried alive. I have to stand up and walk around. "Rounding up some of the shows that are we are getting cut short what what are we missing them all right so the exorcists that got the axe lucifer that's also gone those are both faulk shows designated survivor the kiefer sutherland film where he becomes the president by accident that's that's that's gone quantico the fbi drama which i didn't actually realize we're still in the air that's gone alex inc which i have never heard of in my life but apparently was a show starring zach braff about a podcast or that only got through one season before that got canceled great news which was from tina fey produce it and i'd actually heard really good stuff about that but apparently not the audience wasn't they are so that got cancelled and then taken the show based on the liam niessen films that is also gone but apparently they're trying to shop that around to a new home so anyone out there if you want to buy taken now's your chance you know i feel like we're coming off the air of a ton of tv shows being adapted for movies and we're seeing a lot of those names here they you know they didn't quite make it although i've heard a lot of great things about the exorcist i think chris did you watch any of these shows i watched some of the first season the exorcist and i didn't love it but i did hear it got better especially in the second season so i might actually go back and watch it now because a lot of times when shows get canceled that's when i finally go back and watch them because i i like to know there's an end game like oh i know i can finish this in a certain period of time actually washed quantico which is quite promising sort of crime drama that took place in had interesting timeline thing going for it had both present day and pass flashbacks going on as well and it's our priyanka chopra who would make her crossover usa byu from bollywood so i watched it for like the first season and it was on hulu but then it got taken off of hulu and that's when i stopped watching it actually.
