This is discovery from the BBC. I'm Jim Al Khalili. And in today's program, I'm in conversation with a leading scientist about their life and research. Welcome to the life Scientific Mice rather like us. Humans prefer to be treated with a little dignity, for example, how they're handled. Picking them up by the tail, as was the norm in laboratories for decades, makes them anxious and so conspicuous the results of the research for which they're being used. So says my guest today and she should know Jane Hearst is William Prescott, professor of animal science at the University of Liverpool. She spent her career exploring the secret life of mice and how they behave. Much of that behavior she's discovered can be revealed by following their noses where those noses take them. And what's in the scent marks that they find. Jane has unraveled a complex array of sent signals that underpinned the way mice communicate and how each selection mate. Within this heady mix of mail sent. She's identified one particular pheromone that so enduring two females that she named it after Mr Darcy from pride and prejudice, But we'll get onto that later. Jane Hearst, Welcome to the life Scientific. Thank you very much, Jim. This fascination with mice has been a constant throughout your career. What is it about mice that captivates you? I do work on other species. Some of our most recent studies are on brush tell possums, cats, Val's even mosquitoes. But has mice have really grabbed my attention because they're just so versatile. That's made them a very important and successful species in the wild, as well as being the most widely used species in the borough tree animal research, and you mentioned these air that the house my so this is basically the most we'd see scurrying prosecution floor or across a farmyard. That's I guess the wild type, but that is the same species as the laboratory mouse. Yes, they called house mice because they're really attracted to live in buildings. Where they can take advantage of our food and shelter. So that is really made from adapted to be able to live in these artificial environments to be so suitable for laboratory life Now, Jane has your love of animals goes back to your childhood. What was it like in your household? Well, I had a massive interest in animals as a child from the usual watching frogs born developing the garden to also keeping pet guinea pigs, durables, hamsters, I bred tropical fish and stick insects. And then when I got to secondary school I took on looking after all the animals in the biology department, which I think is probably where I first met Mice on died. Organized for all of these animals to have homes for the holidays on, I'm sure I probably took home more than my fair share of them as well. But then I keep more exotic things at home by tiny harvest mice in tall tanks in my bedroom so they could climb up there, Corn stalks, and then we built a really big Avery in the back garden so that we could keep chipmunks on. They would try and find anywhere to bury their nuts and grapes, and that would include your ears if you went into the Avery's as well. So I guess at that stage in my life, it probably wasn't that interested in school work. There was so many other interesting things to do. You mentioned that the animals that you're keeping at home got more elaborate. So how exotic did it get? Well, I guess one of my favorite animals was actually a cou rt. So I don't know whether you know what a quality is. Sounds like I should do. But okay, do tell. Yes, it's a member of the racoon family. It has ah, long ringed tail, And they also have this long, flexible snout that they kind of pushed into anything and everything. I think actually is probably the first time I really understood the importance of sent to mammals. Because everywhere she would go, she would be sniffing everything. It's quite embarrassing, really. Because Katie the quality was very of course, Kate to the court that she was very attracted to perfumes. And if anybody came to the house wearing a perfume she would try and wrap herself around their necks, which I think was probably quite disconcerting for the visitors. What did your parents think? I mean, what parent in their right minds would put up with all these animals. Well, I think my mother was very interested in them. She wasn't allowed to have pets as a child, and she was great. You know, she would always help me to look after them. I think probably my father was a little bit more long suffering, but even him, I would keep catching him giving them little treats in the background. Even though you know you profess not to be so interested in them. He still enjoyed having them there. I think presumably there came a time when you wanted to leave home. So what happened to the animals? When it came to going to university? I just felt that real Sense of responsibility for them that I didn't want them to just be sent away. Because I was going away. There was a really good course of my local university. So I chose to stay at home. He went to Birmingham universe, Correct? Yes. And at Birmingham, you studied biological sciences. On. It was here that you became captivated by mice. What sparked that particular interest in them? When I got to my third year at university, we went out on an ecology field trip. To learn how to estimate the size of populations. So we were expecting to go into a wood or something but much to our surprise. We got taken to a battery chicken farm. When they opened the doors to the chicken sheds. They were just running in house mice. I'd never seen mammals living at that kind of high density on I was really fascinated by it. It just opened a completely different world. And these wild mice. They became the subject of your PhD. You wanted to study their behavior?.

"Black. Not black right. I think that's sick. Andrew you can teach them about politics but also teach them how to fight so that they'll win so when somebody when they get. I think it said that it's a nice distraction. You feel angry. Feel justified in your anger and in reality you're distracted from your real work and i think we're all better off or most of us are better off spending as little time as possible on it and focusing on the things that really matter. That reminds me of a sweater. The statements that. I've always remember andrew saying if it's not about business. It doesn't matter i was. I was watching the news. And he goes and he's the one that like i shed light on it to be. That's entertaining aesop news. It doesn't matter what you care if somebody across the country this is why when when you were like sixteen or eighteen an hour tat. One care about somebody in california. I've got shot. What does that matter. You have changed your life. What does that help you run about a business or something like that. If that really is the way to think and except i would just change it now and except that there are other things to do in life other than business. But if you're if you're trying to be a cyclist focus on cycling. It's been a little bit of time outside interest but who like you said who cares about this. Sounds like one of your emails. People are dying. Inside i do. Here's seven reasons. Andrew will be the first person to cry when you tell him that there was like some injustifiable in justified unjustified death or like what is he going to do it he doesn't need to hear about that death because do about it. So why am i going out speaking on your behalf. Why am i gonna hear about this going to help me in anything second improve my life so i mean to hear about it so otherwise entertainment if i say i don't want to hear about it not like it'll be oblivious to it. The news will make its way to you. It's it's just we don't need to. We need to work to not get it instead of working to get more of it. Meanwhile it's a challenge. Because i put these these speakers all over our house all these amazon speakers all over our house. And it's so tempting to say. Play the news just to have something on it and then they go off into it so he could also give it to me girl. They'll they'll the it'll play that. Say play on spotify. It's such an atlantic camera around the house when livia tries to get it to played the right song actually so she'll calm and peaceful except when the speaker will not hear her play the exact opposite and then she's when she worked when worked very very of morning that very morning. The thing that frustrates me. The most i tell every morning. We're playing the same song. We got cobblers in the same song. All the sudden it's different rendition by different artists everyday. I've been happy with the same song. Never asked to stop. And now i gotta hear some new life tape by some other artists. Who need that right. By the way that morning song in the michael khalili house was bounced by system of a down for awhile pogo pogo job although pogo pogo cardio. It are you guys. Are you guys nervous at all about the kids being so young that you know they're gonna have a drone in the next six months is they're going to be too much information too fast or because it's going to be always there they won't give. I think drones. I've got strong opinions about this. I think drones are fine. I think the big problem is phones. they are just. They're such a distraction machine. That a few years ago i decided as soon as i home after put the phone in the drawer and just be done with it and if i need something. I got the apple watch. I'm all kitted out the But every other technology you could dip in and out of the freaking phone will suck you in all the time and so i do make an effort to not have the phone on around them to put it in a drawer when i get home a little harder now that we're working from home and i need the phone work. But that's that's one of my big walls. I try to block that off everything else. You want to have a drone you want to have something else. Go for it. They've funny did not like that. Picking down we lost your computer rant. I hate phones. That's my bottom line. Keep this on in a drawer. Tried to keep him away from them. You will kick you off again. I like michael. Loves computers He he's one zero one zero one from way back if you know what i mean at bits about computer he always says it's user error and then when something goes i just secretly when something goes wrong in his end and he said gosh it. I just lost seven years of work. I'm like mother c. C. the pleases me. A little bit the best is keeps struggles in struggles and struggles with the problem. That i come in there. And not that. I just fix it really quickly that though that is satisfying and i just showed him how this one that was in. Front of him was Solving the problem but when he can't reproduce it and so i'm here i'm available. I wanna help you. I want to solve this problem for you. But i guess you're you're just going insane because this problem then i leave a enforce. The problem starts again. If you were a cyborg. If you could be a cyborg you would right michael in a fucking instant. That is the ultimate evolution back. 'cause why do i only have two limbs like allow people think about cyborgs of does like. Well if i lose my arm. I'm gonna replace it with You know a mechanical arm like darth vader date or something. I can or look out but if you have the ability to At to replace our. Why do you have to wait till the arm gets cut off. Now have a Why not just add another arm if this works. Why don't why don't i just have a bunch of bunch of legs. Like what do you think will be better like two feet or four ford. estes outlook. Michael says is hilarious but the best is watching keith. Response to it because my job is to fight robots and i am you know trying to like. Robot is different than the cyborg. Please keith skills. Can we already know. I already is. What in hammer robotics revive we not. We don't know yet that humans are shit. Well yeah well then you then you get your hands man. So i'll get mine will will or all the this is the ultimate half where my mind takes us. So if i could get a separate appendage right why does that appendage need to be connected to my body why can't just wheel so i do have an extra arm but it doesn't have to be connected to be connected. Wirelessly i got the wireless receiver shoulder. Keep you get sick of me sometimes. But i'm like your favorite khalili. Christ i know i'm just as we were talking. I was going on amazon to buy extra windex..

"Special offer to get ten percent off your first month. Better help. Dot com slash. Kfi jilani what happened. Last time i was on a call with them. I was just the guy text like. Hey you ready. Because then he's going to video chat me and i go. Yes and i throw all my coffee. That i just made all over my keyboard. I repeat keyboard protected. I throw that off. I see that more sinking in. He's calling me while. I'm trying to touch the touch pad full of coffee to say oncoming than i was able to cause you log on your phone to log on my phone and said just one second three minutes later i was able to talk to him in my computer's fine but that was a moment like as the phone started ringing the coffee spills everywhere and i am just watching my therapist. Try to get in touch. He says what are you stressed out about right there but yeah we did couples therapy via remote like that and i couldn't sit still because i hate just sitting there and talking and i said i would love it if i could just put my phone on a selfie. Stick around you so helpful. I asked so much better even if it's around the house but even gone through the neighborhood because we're here no valley san francisco. There's nobody in the street during the day. Who just walking around talking and it allowed me to open up in a way that i couldn't if we were just sitting down fell to sterile too uncomfortable to do that. Yeah i've made coffee while we're talking. Yeah i'd i'll actually put it on a little podium thingy for for phone. I didn't mean selfie stick. But yeah i don't think they care. They were a little cautious about what i be as open if i was walking around with strangers hearing me but i turn the camera around. You can see known seeing me. There's no one around right by the way speaking of the parents. How long has it been that. You haven't talked to your parents kinda. Let's at this point. I don't know four or five years for sure. At least four and andrew. Do the parents try to get see. What kind is up to through you. I try to stay out of it. Because i feel like no matter what i do. It ends up exploding on me. Like i remember asking him to what you want out of this. What would what would your ideal thing be from them and she just went off and i thought i didn't do anything to you. It just asking you a question. i went off. I said. I said i want them to speak to me. Like adult. not like nothing has happened. I get a touch it. That's what you say. Better help therapists what they did. Do you know when i was saying i thought all right. I guess what you don't realize do this. Interest rate so big brings up the topic. You're attack like they were making the case for them. Insert just wonder ideal. You want me to. Do you want me to send my kid with his ninja moves. They'll take him. I said I want respect as a human for a start. I want acknowledgement that. We haven't spoken in years real recognition. Not to pick up where we were as if nothing happened. Well i could see my a siblings. I could see this going the same way. My siblings were hearing this show saying. That's how keith is with our dad. Where i could see brother mind saying you know what just it's it's gonna be christmas. You can call dan for christmas and me going. I don't think you get it. That i don't think you understand and i could see them thinking well easy. I'm not that we don't even get that. It's once your ideal. Do you know what i do know. We read the question. That don't read your apply me the question that i asked you because i was just asking you. I think i was asking you. Let's see the way. I remember it as well. You said the tricky thing was mom and dad is they ask. How was your day. But they don't want to actually know the answer. It's hard to have conversations like those and anderson. I get that but are you saying you're not willing to live with that. I mean considering that's how they are. What do you want. And i said i want respect as a human i start i want. Oh i start. I wanted knowledge meant that. We haven't spoken in years real not to pick up where we were as if nothing happened. And michael says never mind. That's a different conversation. They even jobs. I don't know what i said but you could. I can see the exact same. We'll never know. I could see the exact same thing though with key. Figure the fuck out. Okay sounds good all right. I'm not part of the family yourself involved in your this and i am anthony started. This entry was introduced one of the first things he says. I don't care what you do. Just don't get me pulled into your bullshit you don't get me pulled into your bullshit has had out started. Andrew started a continued tax with me. And michael starts with. I'm that did you get the box for mom. What do you think. And i said i did. I think it's weird. It had it had a card with glitter that That said happy new year in hebrew no signature nor real message. We haven't spoken for over four years. Feels like an invitation to continue exactly where we left off. Which sounds like hell to me. 'cause somebody asked me how i felt and then. The andrews said glitters the best and then he said. That's a fuck you right. that's passing. That was funny and then he said so. What's your non. Hell ideal back to nothing. And i said i don't see an option here. A package doesn't create change and he said thumbs up. Then michael said going okay. They don't have the two hands up for blacklivesmatter all but always said is. I don't option here. Package doesn't create change comes up then. Michael said the tricky thing with mom and dad is they ask how is your day and then it and then that was. That was to the end and now keith. you're right. I know so but all i'm trying to say is that now gives a fun. Save yourself gives a thumbs up mosey verge verbally and move on. I could see. I was going to say hey. Christmas is coming up too late. Michael christmas is coming up. Why don't you just you could at least say hi to debt. And i'd be like then you don't fuck and get it and if you don't want to say hi i'm not telling you to your ideal if your ideal keith is to just disconnect completely forget it it to have a conversation it if your is something else i get it. I one hundred and then if we can't get that ideal. I'll be open say. Look you can't get that. I get what you're looking for. You can't get it. Can i ask you my aunt to my house and just naturally sit down here with my friends and smoke weed. I can't do it right. So what so. What did i answer was that now you tell us what's your ideal you want acknowledgement and you don't want to pretend that this this silence didn't happen right. Yeah because i don't know how else to reconnect with someone if we're just going to pick up and they're going to keep picking on me just get that if they were to call you up and say we really have not talk long time. See he can't get through because he knows. My parents are not going to do something normal by the way normal like that. These are normal things. Okay whatever house..

"Okay very good. So we'll work on andrews microphone later. Now we're going to talk to the other sibling. Oh i took off. Michael's know what they look. So we're like bad. Oh you muted. Michael michael we can you know what it is. This is michael's fall because he changed his name into some funny name. That confuse you what. What confused you about my bed. Call myself andrew narrow michael the fact that he's running the show and you're telling jokes in the place where he has to you. That's what it is so confusing raising about your tone. What's confusing about your talent. That i put andrew water as my name. Please ladies and gentlemen the real andrew warner how you doing answer. Hey good are we. Is this the point. Where a talker. You're going to go back to my sister and her butt plug and my brother and how he looks like me. It was a weird name. Worst invitation i ever got is it. Are you able to listen to Do you have to take breaks from keith. And the girl when it gets personal about whether it's whether it sex or anything that's a little too much. I was surprised that i didn't because i was i. I remember years ago when you guys would do this. I thought why am i continuing to listen. I realize because nobody knows that i'm listening. And as long as there's no judgment around it. I don't care. And so and plus i was running and i don't wanna stop my run anything so i've learned to accept it that sir. Equal with your intro. That level of love running just because my sister's running or fucking mouth again all right and you already heard from him. Harry is a younger brother and the genius behind the keith. And the girl app michael khalili. Hello michael my immune that okay. Hey how's it going. It's great it'd be back on the show. Thank you thank you very much when you now i see right here on the cameras of course has everybody's name and michael kept the last name. Khalili andrew did not years of course have gone by since that business decision. Michael how do we feel about that. Is that selling out. Do you look at your brother fun. So i like like what people say cashing in instead of selling out. Don't think either of those two. I think it was lever hack. We you changed your name. We were doing sales at the double. You're doing the sales at the time but we were we. Were trying to get your cold calls at the time injuries. Doing cold calls at the time trying to get ads on our on our platform. And you know you call and you say you're calling from qalilya negative Halil salihi Talking about saying at the hub voluntarily trains right right. Carl hurley leak. Leili all the mispronunciations cap. And i think during sales you wanna be as clear as you can as easy as you can. Plus it doesn't hurt to sound kind of waspy when you're calling from but when for money right so having a haven't changed name. I think it was a good hack to to get in there. And then he was andrew water for so long making a call. It just made sense to switch. Now that i think is a good thing that andrew did you say. hey. I know. I'm doing these calls but michael. If you're so into me changing my name you change your name to. I couldn't get my wife to change her. Name to warner getting married and i remember. We have all these arguments are. Isn't that funny. You think like hey old fashioned. Do i take my husband's name. That's already a thing you know in in this day and age. Now she's supposed to take a name that's not necessarily real. Yeah my gonna take on your fake name. No and so. And i changed it legally. I got the paperwork and she still insisted that she didn't wanna do it. And i remember. We had an argument with two and michael there. And i think you might have even been there at the time and finally we came to this agreement. That's very michael. Which was i'm gonna keep using warner for work. And then privately our marriage we could still. I could switch back to khalili and so for work all the work papers all the boxes the come into the house or to my office for work have warner's the last name and then come when it's dinner time she goes she goes andrew khalili. Dinner's ready no though that she does she doesn't do because even she can't pronounce khalili folks on both. Your wives are last. Name was halili. The weirdest part is my parents will call me. Andrew honor and they don't even accept it. I've gone back to khalili. And i think even call her. Olivia warner so. Only one out there on the island on her own. Your parents just wanna make they just wanna make sure they pick the thing that you're not picking at the time. They wanna be americanized. Like every other jew did they. How religious are you andrew. I'm not religious. You were all americans and the thing to say is not religious and spiritual right and your white convert. What the fuck fucker words converted. But you don't you don't go to temple will see you go to temple. No but she still had to see rabbi non. he doesn't go to temple. She go but my boyfriend is right. I converted to then just now. I mean who cares my my own kid yesterday in the car said as we were driving. Mom is christian. I go what he was telling me. Now olivia was was raised atheist. "Prisoners that you get Jordan's. It was I was like sacrosanct. Jay Right. And, guys like Ninja have created that type of Nora in streaming gaming world, and it's great. You have to embrace it, not you don't want to hide it. Because all that does is it creates opportunities for the next? Generation and players do you I mean what what would you like to see here in the next I? Don't know five ten years, or or what direction do you think things will be going I said? If I had a crystal ball. I, I see that with technology know we follow technology right, and so what happens is is as we're talking about PSI with technology looks like talk about sowed gaming. You know we talk about the five G. Ban. What technologies as technology evolves I think? Jamie is all. The way. You play games going to all. The type of games you play eighteen. You're going to have much larger. Consumer pays as of Gamers. I think gaming over time become more mainstream. More accepted as the House will bang that I think you're going to have a different permutation a gaming. is just a social norm. I'm working on deals where you have live a destination. Where you go to a live event like a think of like a Marin Day, copy cheese where families are gonNA be going and visiting social. We've seen all the new stadiums and arenas being bill Osso. You know when you start about destination location gaming, you start talking about brick and mortar. Will you start telling yourself as well? This is GonNa be an interesting road ahead and I think that. When the three of us get together in five years for a drink down the road. We're going to look back this conversation while that was an antiquated time. Look at it now, and you know a are those types of things have not fully caught up yet. But. Don't look at the technology. A already gives today is what it's GonNa be. It's GonNa be somewhere where you're not gonNA get nauseous. You're sick. It's going to be fully immersive. It's GonNa have all. The, centuries adapted to it so I think when you think about gaming. An intersection technology was GONNA look. Life is only gonNA continue to get more more amazing. Which draw working to oval in the US around the world. Absolutely absolutely I I couldn't agree more and it really is, and we do know how quickly. Technology changes and it's been. It's been moving super fast. You still got the younger generation technology with a are and stuff. So who knows what? That's GonNa? Look like in five years. It's going to be. It's going to be nuts. It's going to be absolutely. Nuts arise. Thank you so much for Jabber Jab in there and we got the learn a little bit more about you. Don't go anywhere though guys. We're GONNA. Come back. We've got one more topic to talk about. I had to talk about destiny to in this live event that they did hear this past Saturday it was real cool We'll be right.

Absolutely absolutely I want to jump right into it. Obviously, we talked about it last week and just the impact of. The current situations that are that are happening. Black Lives Matters Movement the the. George Floyd situation and whatnot so a lot of companies. Bigger companies really I feel I kinda took a step forward there. Actually speaking up, we had playstation and Sony. They push back. their reveal. We had a bunch of other companies Hulu I, saw college and stuff like that so You know there's a lot of voices out there and and they decided that they wanted to push. The event bag. We've got an official date now. as to as you when that's happening and and I couldn't be happier. That and I figured to. Just approach that they took respect respectful to the current situation. That's happening you know took. Let it take a breather, and they say you know all right this week on Thursday. We get it. We finally are going to know what's going down. with PS five yet you know it's nice that that it wasn't too long of a delay You know a week, we'll take it..

"Coast Jim al Khalili back with us who was with me a few years ago his new book is called the world according to phys CZ quantum physicists author broadcaster based at the university of Surrey in England he received his doctorate in theoretical nuclear physics in nineteen eighty nine and has published more than a hundred research papers on the subject he is very well known presenter of television and radio in Britain recipient of the Royal Society of London's Michael Faraday put price we talk about the Faraday cage a lot of this program and the institute of physics Kalban metal in two thousand sixteen he received the inaugural Stephen Hawking battle for science communication Jim why do all the Brits why are they all great physicists the deal is glad to be back I'm not sure I think maybe we just we just have a knack for it have you been very well thank you very well he has been a few years since I was off on the set are they going crazy in England to over this coronavirus oh yeah oh yeah at the moment maybe not quite as bad as continental Europe Spain France a typical family but yeah we getting that with I think I guess we'll let the states where maybe it's a week or two behind the worst country to the moment you my missing something the seasonal flu and I've said this a hundred times on this program people probably tired of hearing me say this but the only worldwide already since since this was discovered in December seven thousand people died across this planet from this virus seven thousand people yes at the same time actually even less a hundred and fifty thousand people have died from the flu worldwide yeah yeah one of my missing here yeah no you're right I mean people should get the numbers of people dying from so many other things I guess it's because this is on those because it's sitting at the very start of an exponential curve so we know who we consulate down because we don't have a vaccine yet and we know it's just going to rise as though I suspect worldwide we Comstock millions just in the United States just in the United States guess how many people died falling out of their bed should you not four hundred and fifty people four hundred and fifty people went to bed and they never woke up they sell out of their bed their hit their head and Beth everyone should sleep on mattresses on the floor exactly it's crazy anyways let's talk about your work the world according to phys first of all to you what is physics well it it's a way of understanding reality for me is the way of understanding that this is the the physical universe the the world around us the stuff the matter the energy at the cinnamon at the deepest level you you you drill down you get to physics you know whatever explanations you have even you know when when in other sciences biology leads to chemistry ultimately at least if it accepts the fundamental way of understanding the true nature of reality in my view what is it about physics that really in the something you enjoy I think it's and this is why I fell in love with it you know as a teenager I think I mean I A. I. I enjoy it because I'm good at it you know not everyone is good at everything I'm I'm I'm not so good at playing the piano I'm good at it but also it's fun it's it's common sense and it's possible falling within mysteries out there I don't follow what someone else tells me this is the explanation of the mystery I realize that using mathematics using the tools and tricks of science I consoled those mysteries so it's it's is that it is a mystery that's the whole thing is a puzzle and there are ways and means that you can use to reach out I just find that absolutely fascinating you keyed in on nuclear physics how come well that was sort of block really all right I was in my finally of my bachelor's degree undergraduate degree and one of the professors the idea that a research project with with is it a new fifty electrical nuclear physicist so he taught mathematics Carrie have mathematical modeling off that's on the nuclear arsenal nothing to do with nuclear power role or nuclear weapons just understanding the structure of the comet nucleus I did this project with him and he must have been impressed that he said would you like to stay on and do a PhD with me and it hadn't even occurred to me to do that I was at the time was about to get married I am not going to get a job up there to get a handle so going to be grown up and and this PhD opportunity was handed to me and as soon as it was off but I knew I had to say yes and my my wife to be now my wife of fifty years I'm still paying her back for that for the thanks thank you for allowing me to do what he faced I love it well tell me a little bit about this new work the world according to phys yes this is a is a small book it's it's almost five it sort of half the family thing fifty thousand words of other books that I've written but I think it's sort of my love affair with physics what we know and how we know what we know so I I would say as an example but if one only took off of reality the physical universe gain from physics is an island and beyond to the shores of of of the the the ocean of the unknown we don't know if that extends on profanity or whether we'll finally know everything the department is expanding all the time is on the list because this book isn't an exploration of the on that as a lot of other popular five books are it's really an exploration of the shoreline that we walking around the shoreline looking at the cutting edge of what we now know in physics maybe rolling up you'll feel guilty if you're traveling couldn't and wading into the water wearing a little bit of the online what is it that we still don't know but if we on the brink of understanding hopefully so that's where it's at it's a book that brings the average reader up to speed on some of the most profound issues into the you were born in Baghdad back in nineteen sixty two and one of the characters in your book is the error of physicists it been under Haitham tell tell me about him is was is he real yes absolutely yes certainly my my mother's English my father came from from Iraqi met my mother in England my studying engineering but I'm back with a I grew up in in Iraq at a time when you know life is easier was different back then there was no will not help but to you well that very much publisher crown yes I speak only am I with the win although it was the complete home is my mother tongue I did school in Arabic and in in history classes that would not science classes with us about some of these great medieval scholars of the of the Islamic empire you know people who invented whole finances you know like algebra and trigonometry in astronomy and and then the woman in the west and so at ten ten about ten years ago I did a BBC documentary about these medieval scholars are then followed this up with the popular science book which came out in the U. S. under the title the house of wisdom and it did it was received very well in one of the main characters in it this tenth century genius if not hate them mostly in the west he was known by the Latin version of his name and his team because one of his his his works is text to translate it into left in in the European Renee homes they used his book of optics and he's one of these fantastically colorful characters because of the amount of historians wrote about and so we know quite a lot of his life he he figured out how to solve the the problem of the Nile in Egypt how it would be flooding and M. two is a drought and he proposed what we would now have as the Aswan dam on the Nile really yeah he he proposed building a dam he told the caliph of in Cairo that he could do this and then so he might he was invited over and failed because he realized he didn't bitten off more than he could chew so rather than apologize school or trying to make excuses he feigns madness and that statement if she's with that second part if they manage it when he was still a young man working in the southern Iraq in the city of Basra he had a very boring clerical administrative job and he really wanted to be studying to put a great work of the Greeks the Greek astronomer Ptolemy so to get half of his job he feigned madness got got kicked out of his job and was supported by reading some of these texts the wonderful character box he was also a genius and he was probably the greatest physicist in the two thousand year span between Archimedes in ancient Greece and used in the making many great big discoveries in astronomy and and analytics so yeah but the hero of mine can you imagine if you live today with the kind of technology we've got available to him yeah it's it's it's it's quite incredible because he was also one of the earliest proponents of the scientific method so he'd say things like you know if you have a good idea if you have a feeling a hypothesis it's no good just saying it's true believe me you have to try and test it you have to find an experiment to see if you're right so he learned things like light always travels in straight lines and how light reflects and reflect that refracts through blocks and water and so he combined theory and mathematics and experiment all the time in a way that I think didn't really happen until much later in Europe Galileo for example so yes with modern technology he well who knows what genius of like it might have achieved any imagine others let United to Vinci you know what if they could lift today what what could they do if Feinstein had a computer right she would have to write on the chalkboard all those numbers yeah but it looks cool that might intrude in there are still mysteries of science the mysteries of modern physics here we are rich twenty twenty we've been to the moon in nineteen sixty nine we've done all these amazing things yeah we still really don't know about dark matter and dark energy how come well it's it's a sign that we haven't reached the end of our understanding of of the universe I mean that that there was a famous article written by Stephen Hawking in about forty years ago now the nineteen eighties when he said the end of the physics is in the air will almost half the theory of everything or we just need to do is don't from Moscow since he's feeling that would unify all the forces of nature and of course he was wrong because we are still looking for that theory of everything and in the intervening period as you say they've been things like dark energy that have been discovered we still don't know what dark matter is made of we didn't even know who if the Big Bang with the ball don't get me on that but I'm going to ask you about that now yes so that I mean to me that's great there are still mysteries out there because you know that the the say this is one of the reasons I love physics if we had all the offices life will be more boring I'll be out of a job as well you know I I'm trying to think about this universe and I'm let's take god out of the equation for a moment because that's an easier answer but with god out of the picture for just this moment I'm trying to think of this universe how it was formed from nothing in I just can't get it GM I can't get it yeah it's it's it's it's one of those steps are ideas that it seems like if the universe is expanding what is expanding into little that that's exactly what's on the other side of it or something zero there are ways I think what the problem is that you have people working at the cutting edge of the foundation of physics do I have a I have an understanding of of all four of these these these issues albeit not complete but we're rubbish is explaining it to people without the benefit of years of experience one of the things I've tried to do my book is find fresh ways of explaining some of these concepts it's you know you could go from even just playing a sound bite and and and and and the the developers are okay now I get it it is subtle the idea that could be something from nothing as for the system even called it the ultimate free lunch.

"Since your first episode and she introduced me to your podcast about two years ago. I haven't missed a show since then. Oh Oh my God this is. This is my favorite kind of story where I mean I just picture because they picked my mom and I can't tell her about the things that I like and here you I telling her about a podcast that we just got shushed about so issues like already. I'm like WHOA. What a great relationship? You guys have also thanks to my daughter daughter. I recently subscribed to VIP program just fell in love again. I just finished listening to flavor of the month but the libraries huge move variously. I just finished finish listening to flavor of the month with Kyle Carmen and I loved it. In fact a new episode is up right now by the way they talk to CARMAN's doctor is real cool. And she also was a fight. Doctor was in the ring with fighters fixing them up Today's guest is Dr Linda doll ear nose and throat doctor to the stars thought that thought Ah Carmen. They they wrote it to be clear. She shares her special diet. Her exercises a fight doctor in the boxing ring. And where you can find her first book and I was there and it's very funny. I I so much relate to your daily discussions. This letter says in your liberal views on politics. Religion and personal lives and I was born in Iran town. Iran can identify with your stories about that part of your background and culture and Keith with calling a culture your relationship with your dad. Wow Wow wow is a good word for it when you have to sum up keeps relationship with his dad. Wow yes my daughter and I are so hooked up on the emails and an unspeakable relationship with your glad that you guys had and still continue to have I'm writing this note. It's about my daughter. She'll be twenty eight years young on November eleventh. She's she's Nathan has politically very liberal. Activists dedicated eight years to volunteering for planned parenthood and then the list goes on. Can you give her a little shoutout. Little happy birthday this I I mean I don't shout can't shut you out emily but Happy Birthday nonetheless It's very fun to hear you sharing this with your mom and emily sounds like actually one of the nicest greatest people on Earth love love. Love Your podcast. Can't wait to listen to the next one. The Iris Iris and Emily Thank you so much for listening and yeah absolutely right in happy birthday emily. Thank you for sharing this with your mom and everybody else dear key. I've been a listener in Northwich in the UK for about six years ago. Iraq rock-hard rock-hard Guinness Shit about this email to know they care. I WanNa thank you for doing what you do. It's brought me a great deal of joy over the years but I mostly wanted to say thank you for your dead had emails. It has made me realize that my dad had been doing a much less extreme version of this during my childhood. Wow isn't that interesting. He would regularly make me feel bad about things. I was excited about whether it playing a sport going somewhere or changing career. This resulted in making my already crippling shyness worse and making me withdraw further. They're not telling my parents anything about my interest or what I was doing in my childhood and I have A. There's a sibling of mine. That I know my dad really lowered his self-esteem twisting but he still knows my dad's foolish it. It's even the the logic part of it can kick in the emotional part takes years years after that. It's so interesting. I became very secretive. And it's something I'm still working on stopping. I would be punished simply for questioning him or expressing exasperation at his rule role. He didn't speak to me for several days. Because they said quote for God's sake once then he begged my mom to apologize to him. Wow Wow wow yeah no you're right. You're absolutely right about that. 'cause I always give sort of like a pass to that second partner and like Oh poor that person but really they opt opt in and then they stay in part of it is. They're part of a cycle. That's fucked up but the other part is hey look you know at some point one of you because you're responsible for all these human being thank you gotTa wake up and it aggravates me 'cause I hear always a when people melania trump They always think like all she's just being held hostage there bread and You know somebody helper. She just wants to get out a look face making. She can't stand being there now. That woman signed up for this. Proudly she knew who trump was wasn't like trump was some Some like quiet person. He was outspoken. He was addictive douchebag even back then he knew what she was signing up for and then and then I heard that she was the one on that encouraged him to become president. She's not hostage. My shyness and I have largely overcome on May own but since becoming a father myself. I realized that a DAD's job is to help their child overcome the the challenges and encourage them in the trump's. Did you read a book on that. Isn't that funny. Here's what I learned You're supposed to be there for your kids. My Dad didn't get the memo. I don't Oh claim that the biggest sad story but while my dad problems are far less extreme than your own and even many of your guests. I want to thank you for sharing your story opening my eyes to the fact that it's okay to let go of the fact fact that you don't like or respect your dad and not feel guilty about it. This is all spread. Yeah I mentioned the other day how we did the podcast my the astle and the the host Sass me all the stuff going with your dad but you love him and I had a correct. I'm like I know what the word love means if I those dating me. I don't WanNa hear you use the same to me that you use for your dad a means something. That's right this is all spurred me to continue need to try to be a better father to my own son who I feel far more equipped to help through whatever challenges he may face. I hope this find you in good health and that my grammar is suitable best wishes Dave. PS The story you mentioned about the dude having intercourse with a pile of leaves happened in my hometown. I hope that doesn't damage your opinion of me. Also it wasn't this this email like when we first started keeping the girl obviously we just wanted to entertain. We wanted to be funny as possible but to to mention the the stories of our life. And we're we're making fun of the stories in our life but as we're doing that we ourselves realized what happened to us we ourselves selves like are able to because we learned what happened to keep making fun of it but to affect people in that way. Believe me I think he and I were affected in this way sharing this Keith. Said when something bad happens we asked him. How does he deal with it? How does he process? He turns on the Mike and he talks to someone. I think if you're not talking to someone anybody even start podcast that nobody listens to. If you're not saying that out loud if you're worrying alone by yourself over stuff like I'm mad at my dad. You know to not be able to say that to anybody. Anybody is such a big deal and for people to hear this and for us to be able to go through it with everybody into realized like you can just say stuff and you're not a bad person because there are things that make you a bad person bad intentions bad that actions but saying hey. I have a conflicted very upsetting relationship with my parents because they caused me to be shy and be hurts. That shouldn't be abuse to your parents. That shouldn't be something that you get in trouble for not with anybody. Well that's why I'm here. The Lord works in mysterious ways is wonders to perform you. I know why I would say to my dad when I was a kid and I thought there was a point in talking to him. I would say that is. It's very interesting with all these emails that you've been back and forth with your dad when people are like. Hey doesn't your dad deserve that. Don't you want to tell your dad how this is affecting you and maybe he should give him a chance. uh-huh too and I'm like have you been listening. There are some people that don't want to hear it will never hear it like. Why don't you sit your dad down so you don't think I tried that you don't think my whole life was sitting my parents down? I didn't know how he would be so at the time I tried. I'm forty five. I didn't just meet them. Four and a half decades given a chance. I have a clue I would say to my dad. You know we all know. God is good but then lie my scene thin. You know somebody born with the mentally handicapped born without legs and the answer was very simple so that we appreciate it what we have Right. I'm like okay. So what about that kid does that. Why does that kid? Where does that get need to appreciate right? Well a guy with no arms also. WHO's the one guy that has often? We're well here's a typically should that one guy and during all this of course I am still talking to my mom as you know we were talking about the other other stories In the guys letter that my dad did try to use my mom to be mad at me so that I would then apologize to my dad. Dad and I realized not too long ago that that's been happening my whole life. Do you remember Michael Mom apologizing to dad just to have him stop being the way he is. Yeah yeah like. I don't know why we're arguing. Whatever it is I did? I'm sorry or whatever that argument is just let's just get over it. I'm ready to get over it. And he whatever they've they've got a they've got a weird relationship but then you look at it and they're and they're still together and and the but they enable each other to they they we need each other they. They're both Weirdos they both they both they like they liked that conflict but then also after thirty years or forty years. Here's now to tell you. What are you GONNA do? You're gonNA get a divorce. And then and then what are you talking like mom because yeah get the divorce no but then and then what what are they gonNA do like. That's what I'm saying. That's that's what they're thinking like I. I'm so used to you being here. I'm used to leaning on you for this this and you're used to leaning on me for that. Mom actually had said stuff like that to me. She said on. Yeah I could divorce your dad but then everybody comes with a set of some kind the problems and I see the logic in that. Like you're not GonNa but and it is they that is sweet. The love of your life is the devil. You know exactly exactly. Yeah but also you don't have to be with the devil period right. Yeah but that's that's very shameful a to get a divorce be to be alone like I. I'm sure they think that I am absolutely absolutely disgusting. And don't know how I interact with anybody being You know I what they consider gay married and then second being divorced extend out here alone which is very very strange so they just don't know how to deal with that so of course. My Dad tried to get you know my mom upset at me. Like he will tell me what he's mad about but he heard you talk about us us. He won't say what it is but I wish she did and then I texted back. Of course I didn't say anything bad about you. And he's up to something with my ex. Okay anyways anyways Blah Blah Blah Blah a lot of these a lot of these texts by the way. Recently they're always the same there I just ate and I'm on the toilet now. Peeing and pooping. No exaggeration sensation. I'm your mom. I was eating my first meal today and then I fell asleep on the couch. What woke me up that I had to go potty? I'm on the toll it now. I am peeing in hoping right now always was happening. Remember first how's your day..

"But he rented like the two families went down to Florida. We drove down rented big ban by the way. Let me spend way too much time with that family. Yeah because the parents are swapping right. My we talked to die. He's like two the different the different ones. Yeah so you didn't even know what messing around was right no. I didn't even know why that felt good. She'll shoes shoes touching my dick and I didn't know that this was feeling good and you didn't know that's what sex was. He just knew it was private. I don't even think I knew that sex existed like I had had no idea what the body parts were. I don't remember yeah having any sort of course because that's not what people should touch or you just new like this feels good so we're doing it yet. Like I didn't think I just felt like the open. I did think I should be like. I did feel shame or or not admitting that felt good I. I felt like I was tricking her into doing it again. Like but she she just went for it right. Yeah she was she was a trooper but she you the way you talk about it. It seemed like it was more happening to you than happening to her. Like she went for Your Dick as if she knew. Maybe I think she probably knew more than me. Yeah she's younger than me. Yeah I learned quick though so so now she's like just touching your is she actually like knowing doing what she's doing. No no touching me kind of feeling around right but we figured it out we figured it out okay but but still no no set to blue lagoon. Goon I like the light you put it in all bummbly and you could have said Adam I believe I guess you were younger. So so then To this this blew my mind. You Thought You were GonNa pee. Yes so give me a hand job job one time and and I don't even know that I'm getting one I've just I guess that's what I'm getting later on. I realized that's what's happening. And then I feel like this feels good but I have go to the bathroom but I. I don't WanNa stop right now because this feels good I want to take a little break and then it just came out and I thought Shit that I just pee in her hand and then we turned on the lights and I and then she shows me what's in her hand like what the Hell is like P and it's sticky. It's not usually really sticky. You you're thinking European but did you feel good news up of water. Can you imagine the people listening to this. Who grew up with the Internet? Or like. Who's WHO's is no a coming is like you don't have this experience anymore? It's just blew my mind that you guys can fondle around but now the kids know the opposite you know or learn take it in the opposite way because of all this porn. It's like you want to have sex. Yes and both parties grabbed the other. One's throat yeah that is becoming an issue where Kids who are picking up from nowhere near what sexist like. Okay well your mom needs to marry my dad my step system but you can insist somehow get your mom into it so she didn't know what that is either. Yeah from her expression yeah she was just confused. What happened to her hand as I this is I mean it's weird to say but it's so cute it's a it's it feels? It's like a sweet way but you feel you have to go to the doctor Mollie. Yeah I'm not right often. Are you not flipping out for days. Did you never jerk off or have flakes. No I would not but never no not yet. And I'd like a new touching around. There felt good but I didn't take it further and then and then after after that I I I remember one night thinking. Well if she can make me feel that way. Why can't I make myself feel that way? That was like I like reasoned myself into jerking off like turn on the light again like it happened again. You were very wise kid you like. I'm responsible for my happy. The finds music. I don't need her for this looking literally. Search off right. The doctor asked Deja Asia girl to to approve that he can. She can share the information with them. But you know what you can't even say yes or no in front of a parent that there you really. Can't you want to sign honey. Do you want to sign it. Of course is it also makes you guilty like why. Don't you want me to check your hyman. Is there anything you don't want me to know. Ti Says Author Order. See Dr. There's no problem well. I did ride a horse the other day I want you to know. It's the doctors that there are many other ways besides had sex for women's Hyman the brakes. That's his riding a bicycle riding a horse. I don't see I don't even think tactician see that anymore. That's an old fashioned thing to say we don't have horses. They they do in Long Island. I have to assume horse block road off. I I really feel like even doctors shouldn't say things like that. They should be like. Hey by the way having or not having your hyman has nothing to do with whether your daughter's having sex or not and this is not the education that you should be pushing forward and actually like lose the patient hint if they're not willing to understand actual biology. This is ridiculous. Stop telling them a horse can break your stop putting emphasis on the hyman period. Sayid like don't even as a doctor say. Hey you know there are other ways that she can lose her virginity. A horse could have taken folk the horse you can't talk to Ti while she's you know I don't know she's doing it but lots of people who are under this pressure Hyman checks shit. They're taking it up the ASS. They're sucking Dick. They do everything but totally. I went to Queen's College for like a year and a bit. Thank you hi education and check that box higher than high spray right yeah. There's there's a check box some college and I'm like you know what not too much just is it just some college I Tasted and decided. No thank you but it was There's a lot of Jewish people and they were. They were a little bit more religious. I'm just not Hasidic but like the kept. The Sabbath kept kosher way to kosher cafeteria separate from the other one and And there was a friend of ours named Yousef which is He excuse Muslim and were totally not allowed to interact with them and so he was there were bellion. And they're they have to keep their hyman in their vaginas intact attacked for their husbands so he would just fuck them in the ass in the kosher cafeteria bathroom as one does right. Because that's okay to do and I think what you are doing when when you make the vagina that you're creating perverts thoughts are can you check her tonsils while we're here and I don't mean permits in a bad way I mean unlike like The you have to start using your imagination. You know what I mean you start going around literally a look doctor said Ti she doesn't ride a horse. Or biker. Play any sports see what does not have any follow up like hey fuck face. She doesn't sit on a chair chair. Funny Okay Jacker. Why are you thinking about her her sex thinking about so much about your and then and then with the people checking checking sex after marriage and come out with your bloody going back to that story and you come out with this bloody rag? Sex in the air. When you're part of that sex is is maybe a enticing but then what do you think that room or that? That rags smelled. Like when you're bringing it out to your family. Your your your what also also thinking about your unfilled yeah maybe some a lube in there. Well you did some anal the first night you got L. A. Frac- so you've got you. Don't smell it you immediately put in a frame inlands Ron Christie. These people are. They're also very proud. Like my daughter has the tightest kind like parties like Hyman still intact. I'm such a good dad. I hope the doctor tried to creep amount. Like high five. The dead right Eh drum. I think he would be into that right. And you know what I mean. You put up one finger in the air when talking about your daughter and his daughter's number one no only one finger hyman has the word men in it so he thinks he has the right. You know what sounds sounds. My mom didn't want me to go to the gynecologist. Because she's like well you're not having sex the need I'm like it's a it's an actual doctor check my vagina please. I'm asking you by the way can encourage you to have sex right. Why does he we need to check? I'm like I'm an adult now so I have to go see someone if we can hear the bathroom pipes. Yeah what do you think this library. The daughters dream now. That's your problem right. Member your decision. It's stupid didn't we have Costco's and home depot that Costco Really. I was so tempted to buy one thousand Mozzarella sticks for sure and address in Rhode. I bring my eighteen eighteen year old son to the doctor every year to have them check if he still has a gorgeous tight little being whole That's exactly what's happening. Oh my and I'm looking ruling over his shoulder and there's a picture of him hugging his daughters and now it just gives me out because on his mind he's like look at these policies but that's but I also. I think that that shows what you think of women. In general you're just thinking like type. Was He not tight pussy like push his pussy. That's worth marrying or not. You know what I Mita were given given him so much shit though. But where's the MOM. Hear the moms into this too right. I was thinking like. Oh yes even if even if you whisper. It's still recording so go ahead all right okay. Good luck okay. No not at all we've microphones. Thank you and you'll be able to hit. Stay some in college I can. I tell you I am so proud that she heard. Can I tell you that you're GONNA be Hicksville. Sorry Michael Offense Farmers Town. Can you be quiet recording. This letter writes my daughter has been listening to your podcast. All cast is just I. My daughter has been listening to your podcasts. Since your first episode and she introduced me to your podcast about two years ago. I haven't missed a show since then. Oh Oh my God this is. This is my favorite kind of story.

"Kick. Take a look at the rewards to this kickstarter. I think they're very very fun. So you're not simply donating. You're getting something in return and I think you're GonNa like the options available. Unlike voting voter early vote often. You know the the quicker you get it to kickstarter the better. There is a time limit so please don't wait until the last second. Go to keep them the girl dot com slash kick. Thank you for being our heroes. Yeah people see you support and then you know so it gets them to support and the next thing we did it. So that's the goal. All right I gotta tell you right now. I feel like I'm in the country. We're recording and Long Island at a library. They have little podcast studio. It's interesting they put right next to the bathroom. You'll hear pipes going every so often. That's exciting now. You you came like normally I come out to Long Island to see the Michael and his family. You know Reichel Marcella Baby Max and baby. Marcus is always is almost here so travel two hours been dragging circuses along in recently but we usually like stay over. It's a whole big ordeal But this is your first time this far. Yes and I've been in further. I've been to the to the far edge far end warning. Because you've got on the wrong tray. I this is my my way not saying the word hamptons foreign. His party's anyway. It wasn't live Seinfeld southfork but yeah of course thank God the wrong tree and all that. I'm so sorry to say that I knew you would get it wrong. I was I was texting you last night. Like hey do you need help the planning your route. Download this APP but like tell me which train you're going on just so we can coordinate but I was like he's GonNa fuck this up and I don't I don't mean to call you an idiot but you know all right. It's not really hard to do know that trains like if they leave. That's an accomplishment. But if they leave early a mistake was making great time they say track three. And I'm like okay. Here's a train on track three. I'll take it ladies and gentlemen Michael Khalili. How's it going? I gotta I gotTa Make One correction here now that I live on long island if you don't you're not going you're not in Long Island. You're on Long Island. I'll bite me hard really seriously. You gotta in your lucky that we're near fucking Long Island. I can't believe I come out here. You know my brother's a really big Dick about this whole situation. He moved out to all. We stayed in New York so that you can be close. I'm like you're not in New York. You're in Long Island and also like this is a two hour drive. And he's like. Yeah but you know we stayed close. I'm like yeah how close close enough to ever visit me. No we've a kid lowe. Okay Okay but you know who he does visit friends of his that have birthdays. That's special enough to come to. Hi Michael How are you. I never came to the studio. I haven't driven out there to visit you now. You have not no no look. y'All go ahead and take your time right uh-huh thing and every trip you made. That was a grocery store. Post Office is in New York City. ooh We'll have about this. I've only been to the city twice though for now. Why why go all the way to? The city doesn't come all the way here when when you can come here. He how he said all the way to the city when it's the city but he stayed close when he's on Long Island well really is like the country and the names are two when I transferred for the seventh time I would that was in Hicksville. What the fuck is happening where we now bombing Bill Farming Ville? Okay okay. Why don't they want to change the name? Just ten Thais people to come. I guess they like all the room. That's here on these. These aren't We we live in a hamlet. Also it's not a town. We live in a town. We live in a hamlet. That's in a town so I lived in the Farming Hamlet. That's about that is that it doesn't matter matter you live nowhere. Is there a booklet as you. The Shit like love strong. I why do people really say strong island. And I haven't I heard yet but I I. I'll start that we should. I think they say strong island when they're in the big city visiting Henna ended up talking GonNa Somebody in the library which is all vagabond. I O I always I section. You don't understand this is I mean we are in a podcast studio in a library. Not only they have giant sections of this library. One has All these different printers. Three D printer. You can print on. Would you can make peace it ravings in in in glass engraving and would you can. I'm printing out three parts for like the house sick. We broke his bed last time. I stayed at at Michael's place with broke his. But I know for you. Thank thank you guys actually was during access like fuck weeks flame. It's so cliche but I'm like I guess that's a good reason it would. It would be I if you're just sleeping in the middle of the night is broken with the bed broke. I felt so bad but this little piece of thing broke that. Just you know you would throw out the bed. He came came here three D. printed that part and fix the bed so there's a big library. It has a lot of technological advances. Can you tell the never visited the New York Orc City Public Library which is world famous thing or two at the most technical logical advantage. Advance thing that they've got. I remember doing that little newspaper paper real because that was fun to do but that was high tech. Maybe they've got computers now. We've got three D. Printer but this is also last time we were in the library. We were or five. I guess messing with my this is what I have here. I got a little bit the hold on in the suburbs. I've got my library. This library has a changing station for babies play room. The kids have their toys on display in a glass counter. Here for everybody to see. It's pretty boozy. It's it's pretty incredible. They have a lot a lot of things going on right so I figure you know it's not like New York City. Don't talk to strangers because anyone could take a train sleep there for forty eight hours emerged in like you're talking to some people. This is a library. You had to have driven here. This guy had like a fresh haircut. He put Gel in his hair. I don't know why I'm I'm doing all these things in Gel. How much product and how much to take care of their well when we saw him earlier at the Long Island Library very cafe the Fox so he was? He looks like he was talking to him. By the way. What would you name it when I when I see the like when a guy comes into the library to read a newspaper that you're gonNA put back on the shelf? I run run. It's weird. Just pay two dollars and buy a fucking newspaper. It's what I'm going through the paper today in the live. I don't know why because getting out of the house it's about getting in your wife that you've been married to for thirty years guys. You know what I'm talking about right right. Well it's more like Keith. When he buys a newspaper he cuts it out? He highlighted so he's like you're you're putting it back on the shelf. How do you take the pieces? You aren't as windows in ruined Keith. Keith notes are like a psychopath like you. You know if you put olive keith notes for every show up on your wall. It looks like you're gonNA murder at least three people. It's amazing all we need is like red string from one story to the next Beautiful Mind Bananas so we saw I saw this guy. I'm KIEF did notice. He was talking to himself. What did you say something like? He's podcasting by himself in the water or something and as an I'm thinking. No He's probably an actor and I think I give everybody in Long Island Patch credit because to me. How could you be? Homeless was on Long Island right haircut. It's just it's hard to imagine you being in the city you could be homeless. There's plenty of places to sleep this plenty of like food and little places. You know what I mean. It's it's easier to be homeless. How are you almost long island homeless? If you're not all there I know now I know he's probably not homeless. He doesn't Lok homeless. But I'm like how do you get yourself anywhere you know how do you. How are you talking to yourself as a crazy person? I don't Sir we bring them in there. I I really was thinking. Well so he he's busy talking to himself. He's an actor with a craft. Because we're on long. Hi Lynn on Long Island so I am going to try no I met. I met the cafe and standing in line. And he's right behind me he says. Hello so I go. Hello and I'm like forget we're here. People are crazy. Talk Talk where this story's stories going. This is the trend. Not Sound like it's her fault to people in a place where he says. Look I say so I think okay. Those suburbs suburbs. Hello is a thing people say and then sometimes you go further than that so I did with my mouth and words going in his ears than his words into my ear so and then as you can imagine it was a big mistake so he he says allies at high. And I'm like fuck it. I'M GONNA go far to go you and actor 'cause I wanNA know if he's talking to himself or if if he's running lines and he goes no far from it and as soon as he says far from it I'm like Oh no kill yourself. Quick so what in this library can you three D.. The printer like a nice to kill yourself. I don't know what the opposite of an actor could be goodbye. I feel philosophy coming on because if you think you're opposite did of an actor you have a way with words. That's similar to to Father Malley. Yeah Yeah that's what I'm thinking he's going to start telling me how like actors actors are this way. He's that way he goes in this whole thing he goes. You know it's it is very easy to be an actor like oh here comes a lesson and he goes what you you gotta do. Let me get a pen. Full only goodness was giving me a phone number. This is amazing. Okay what you gotTa do mind you gel in his hair. So I'm listening so what you gotTa do is find the right. People do drugs at them for example you're in La you find Steven Spielberg drugs them on like what kind of drugs. 'cause I'm like so curious. What kind of drug Steven Spielberg does? Because he didn't write itself good they have. He's got eighteen money right. He's got all the money so he goes you know heroin crack including like. Wow that's that's just the same time. Yes productive intense drugs. He goes. Yeah what do you think. Paris Hilton in does and like terrorists decade. Are we in right. What do you think Carmen Electra?.

"So just a whip with three little tails each tale had a not in through the middle of it with sometime shop nails, they marched naked in a file one behind the other and whipped themselves with these scourges on the naked and bleeding bodies, four of them would chant in the native tongue in another fall would chanted response like litany thrice. They would all cast themselves upon the ground in this sorts of possession stretching out their hands like the arms of across the singing would go on and the one who was in the rear of us prostrate acting. I each of them in turn step over the others and give one stroke with his scourge to the man line beneath him this went on from the first to the last until each of them had observed the ritual to the full tale of those on the ground, then each put on his customary garments and always wearing the cap some carrying their whips and the hand they retired. To their lodgings. It is said that every night they performed the same penance man crazy singing some songs whipping, the shit out of each other place people left, and right doctors and making it worse for telling you to drink passer rubbing shit wounds. And now you've got these maniacs hanging out around the town square. Just whip themselves into a bloody mess dark days. Man, strange times must've felt like the end was near when anyone tells when went tells you the world has gone to hell and things are are worse now than ever they do not know what the fuck they are talking about. They are not students of history. Khalili think of the plague none of us alive. Now have ever seen anything remotely this horrible?
