"I'm Ted Sobel in our studios in the NFL trade deadline has come and gone, not much noise from around the league, but potentially the Titans involved in the most impactful deal acquiring Defensive back Desmond King from the Chargers for 1/6 round Pick. Tennessee allows the second most passing yards per game. On third down, They healed the highest third down conversion rate, and they're also tied for the fourth most passing TDs allowed with 17, so to pick up a versatile D B and King can only be a positive for them and a solid a season. His quarterback Ryan Tannehill, has had Including throwing 17 touchdowns. Just three picks. The likely have Khalil Max, number 50 to Jersey and view all day long after a second each of his last four games, So you know that the Bears D will get a huge dose of Titans bruising, running back Derrick Henry, who's rushed for an NFL high 775 yards, eight touchdowns. That's third in the league in seven games this season. And averaging 4.8 yards of rush while steamrolling tacklers as good as ever course, despite coach Nagy being an offensive guy when you think bears you think defense in Chicago's run D has been disappointing. Those far have ranked 16th, allowing 120 yards per game. Last week. New Orleans Alvin Kamara totaled 163 yards from scrimmage against them. After all, that the pair still haven't allowed 100 yard rusher yet this year and today it's that guy named Derrick Henry will be the man to somehow slow down if that's ever possible after five straight games with no with the rush TD, so he's on a roll. So does bears D coordinator Chuck, but I don't have a way to do anything about that. Choke Coach B. It's a great question. We've got some goals. I'm not goingto share those, but we've got some goals set. Thomas Faras, you know. You are what? You want to hold him too. What you want to limit into? Can you totally shut the guy down? I don't I don't know We're going to try to do that. We don't want to. Just so everybody knows we don't want to give up one blade. We're going to defend every blade of grass. You know, no matter who we play, and we're going to do our best to contain him and control him and shut him down. You know, so There's numbers out there. Say if you hold him to this, you know the 1% for the defense goes way up, and that's what that's what we're going to try to do, and Um, it's gonna be all hands on deck and we've got it. You know, no edge. No chance. You don't set an edge and he gets the sideline. You know, we've seen another guy was on coach Pagano's radar. Today is Titans receiver Corey Davis, who's coming off his second most productive game of his career. Eight catches for 100 28 yards plus one TD and the lawsuit since he and it was great to catch up with Chicago native during the week. Hey, Corey. Last month you were placed on the Koven 19 list and your team had that shuffle all the scheduling. How does that affected the mindset of you guys the last few weeks. One of the season. We know it's going to be different, you know, just with Kobe and everything. So we have prepared ourselves for anything and we know it's going to be a different season and we kind of got hit like the first team to get hit. But I feel like we handled it pretty well. I was able to The sickness pretty quick and, you know, be able to get back out there with the boys. We understand this is a different season. And we gonna be ready to adjust anything. Your Chicago kid I can on ly assume you're a bears fan Growing up? Yeah, So you feel like a little kid, this time getting a chance to play against your old team. I know it's only uniform, but it's got to feel a little bit different. Yeah. I mean, it's a blessing every time I put on that uniform. What is this? We're gonna be. Ah, You know, a big week in my hometown team said I used to be a fan of them, but that stuff We gotta go, but I'm looking forward to it. I'm excited to get out there. Corey Davis, the Titans and Bears of both dropped two straight Saudi explain what the heck happened last week at Cincinnati. I mean, it was just Um, We kind of got out of character a little bit weak. You got to get back to And our star football, you know, get back to our culture and, um Hardnosed physical football in the last couple weeks. We weren't ourselves. No, Like I said, and we've got to get back to doing that. Two weeks ago, We had a J. Brown on the pre game show, and he says he enjoys getting caught up watching Derek Henry. Run. I'm wondering how much is it fun for you just to watch this guy? He's from another planet. Yeah. This is their star running got say that and it is it is fun to watch. I'm definitely glad he's on our team. Or with Titans receiver Corey Davis and Cory to wrap this thing up. This is a really tough stretch coming up here. A CZ faras, the schedules concern. You feel the need to prove that you guys really deserve to be talked about is one of the contenders had no question. We we believe were contender. That's how we practice. That's how we play..

"Wow. That's interesting. Bad. Yeah. Is this the real Caesar founding? Horseshoe is part of that too. Is that right? I think horseshoes owned by Caesars. I believe so the NFL has got a gambling partner. That's what it looks like very interesting. It was only matter of time. I guess now that they're out of receivership more money you have more money for the NFL can the owners. What do you think that's worth? That's got gotta be a pretty something Karm. What else? Danny Khalil Mack is trending. And that is because the NFL just released the top selling NFL jerseys of twenty eighteen would you guys like to take a guess at the top ten obviously I gave away that Khalil max in its top ten for twenty eighteen I'm gonna say number one is Patrick Mahomes. You need a new one every year. All right. So we got Brady got one Brady to Khalil Mack three Patrick Mahomes. You did not get four yet. Saquon was five you said saquon five four be Zeke, correct? Four five six six is a quarterback plays in the NFC Aaron Rodgers. Nope. When you probably think most people have his jersey array already have this might be the MVP if you're a breeze. Correct. All right. Eight Carson Wentz. Yeah. Dak Prescott and ten juju. Smith schuster. Browse mad. I guess they named juju the the MVP for the team the MVP. And that's when Antonio Brown through a man. "He needed extra time. Rest and rehab took a hit from the lions linebacker Christian Jones this week. And he said, yeah, a little bit of a setback. I trust my medical staff, but he's got a strain medial collateral, ligament, deep bone, bruise since the season opener. And of course, this all started week one with Khalil Mack when Khalil Mack got traded by Oakland to the bears, and that was the first game for Aaron Rodgers. And the bears were bringing heat and Khalil. Mack had the greatest defensive first half in the history of football, and they suddenly couldn't lock Khalil and they were dubbing Khalil and there was a sack on Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Rodgers got hurt and Khalil Mack. MAC is massively affecting three teams. This won't happen. But right now I'd give Khalil Mack the MVP not Patrick Mahomes. Literally Oakland has a top sixty Fendt in the NFL there one in four. Why? Because their last in the NFL in sacks they can't hold a lead. They can't get to the other quarterback. This Chicago Bears defense number one in the NFC. They're number two in the NFL and sacks number to defend overall. They lead the division. Why? Khalil Mack at ain't Mitch, Trubisky and Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers still isn't right. I mean, just look at it Khalil max. The only player in the NFL affecting either positively bears or negatively Packers raiders three different teams to me. If if you ask me who the MVP the league is they, it's Khalil Mack and Aaron Rodgers. Thirty four by December thirty five. Now this week against the Niners hill win. Then he gets a bye. Then Green Bay schedule is brutal at the row. Rams at New England, Miami at Seattle on a short week at Minnesota, and got to go to Chicago again and Khalil Mack. So that would be my MVP if I voted on it today. I'm not a big MVP guy. I don't care about the Heisman or awards, but I'd give it to Khalil Mack. Nobody's affecting three teams. Patrick Mahomes is not affecting three teams. Khalil Mack is, and by the way, I think Aaron Rodgers knows every year in the last decade. We have all considered Green Bay a Super Bowl threat, and they are not a Super Bowl threat this year. And I think Aaron Rodgers knows it. Remember, Greg Jennings came on this show, and Aaron Rodgers is somebody who wears his emotions. You can see it, and Greg Jennings said, there's a couple of weeks ago about Aaron Rodgers. He knows this is not a Super Bowl team for me. What stood out was his body language, his demeanor, his his lack of involvement with the guys during the game. He had a look. On him like he was disgusted, but it was kind of at what was here we go. Again, there was one image they that they shown during the broadcast of the game where he went to the sideline. He put his hands across his lap. He's sitting there. They show his receivers, they're on another bench, putting their looking as loss as little puppy dogs as well. There's no fire there isn't. He knows it by the way you think I'm crazy. Saint Khalil. Mack should be the MVP. What is value? Let me ask you, this is Aaron Rodgers. Now the best player in his own division Unal think he is if you go to every division in the NFL, let's do it right now. Best player in every division. Let's go AFC east. Well, there's no question that Tom Brady's the best player in that division still could have been the MVP last year in the AFC east, Tom Brady is the best player in the division. Let's go to AFC west Joey. Bosa is very good for the chargers hasn't been. I'd say Patrick Mahomes right now is the best player this second, right?.

"From Espy nation. Pat Mahomes is thrown more touchdowns in his first two games this season than Trubisky has in his fourteen career start. Over three yard Trubisky. He's the new guy, but he's old NFL. The people winning in the first two weeks of the people who are playing bombs away fun football and bombs away fun football is what you get Stu got, when you start making the rules, no one can hit the quarterback, right? Like that is one way to fix all that three yard slop. We've been watching for three seasons as every coach becomes bubbles, scream guy the the one way to fix it is to have these guys who launched the ball all over the place and don't have very much fear of being hit hard, the quarterback. Why would the quarterback even have happy feet anymore? You're not allowed to hit him hard. I mean, I mean, there's still Khalil max Myles Garrett at all they're going to do is tackle you. And if they do it to aggressively, you're going to get fifteen or I think it's a natural reaction to have happy feet when three hundred pound manner chasing you understood the run penalty or not. It's still hurts like, hell. If they do it incorrectly, which they will. L. which will help your team. I mean, it hurts even if they do it, correct. Understood. The job is to hurt in order for gaining ground. That's the whole job. But you want them to stand strong and the pocket because the rules of John telling us that the rules have changed so much that we are creating eventually look at some point guys in the NBA shooters stopped fearing a hand in their face because they knew you weren't gonna, hit him in the face, even though it would hurt if they hit in the face at some point shooter stop fearing that because you weren't gonna hit him in the face, right? There's some insane. Pam ahome stats say he only needs three touchdowns to get off to the greatest passing touchdown starred in NFL history on. And also I read on ESPN research that he's only thrown into a tight window, nine percent of the time that's a wide open. They are open. His guys are getting be it routes or just general speed. They were that open for Alex Smith to by the way like that. One of the things that the damning indictment and this is what makes it hard to do. Some of the measurements on these quarterbacks, the most damning indictment of Jameis Winston and Alex Smith is what the guys after them did with the same receivers, right? I mean, it's Patrick. He'll revert back to being right if it's bad. When I, there's a reason that is a reasonable thing to say. I'm also not sure because those guys are that kind of talented. If I tell you all of a sudden man that changes everything that's put Sean Jackson on your offense and say that every once in a while he can go for sixty yards, it changes how you play football. It changes your whole team plays foot ride combined with Mike Evans and OJ Howard. Maybe you wrote does even if you're not throwing them because Kirk cousins into Sean Jax and they, they didn't have the greatest chemistry, but it opened up a lot in the middle of that is correct. That is what we were seeing. Kirk cousins was at least partially made by the Sean Jackson opening things up. So he could keep throwing his backs and it's tight end for now. He's throwing deep, Kirk cousins these guys because he's got because he's got skilled guys better. Quipped to do it. One of them Steph on digs a fifth round, pick. So what is your argument on the fifth round pick that the really. The patriots that the patriots gave up too much is really your point is just to to prove me wrong with names that were good as fifth rounders. Right? Because you're naming all the ones who were good and what's getting lost the other thirty who weren't in that draft. I mean, Kevin grain that. Little Mike Webster, perhaps the greatest center in the history of the NFL with round peg also recent. That's a recent one. You one more reason about Rodney Harrison. He was pretty good, not much more recent. Got any one more reason. Let's go look at your list. Look at your list. Nathan Peterman. Nathan Peterman is a fifth round pick that Robert Mathis..

Hi hands are begged though my little. Why. Mosey off of that conversation. Let's do a new. Our show. So thank you for getting up with us. It begins with Kalou back in the bears defense completely shutting down Russell Wilson, other new monsters of the midway for real plus jazz. Gordon trade it to the patriots will Tom Brady, and the patriot way be enough for Josh get his career back on track and this afternoon, Red Sox. Yankees. We've got David price live from the stadium on the library and the final stretch of the season get up right now. You've been waiting for this day forever. Skin started. Did you see the game give with on? There's going to be hindsight cans. And welcome back to another hour. Get up coming to you live from above the Heineken river decade, pier seventeen. Continuing greeny and religion rose and Ryan Clark and Todd mcshay is here in Stephen is on his way in this hour. What are you and Stephen, a planning for it to them. We should be talking about Khalil Mack. The last time I checked the bears got an identity, leading the league with ten sacks. They had six last night. He has five, which you think of this comparison reminded me of a modern day, Derrick Thomas. Absolutely. We've seen Derrick, Tom, get five in games. He's one of the best Russia's of all time. Khalil max having that type of impact. Let's add the pictures to the conversation. Here comes Khalil Mack against Russell Wilson, and the Seahawks last night on Monday night football. Wilson had been sacked six times in their opener against Denver and Ryan Clark. MAC was bringing the pressure all night long. Here we are on the second quarter this right now you're gonna see him rain oppressor album. The outside Russell Wilson is forced to step up into the meat of the defense. And this is a huge backup for the Chicago Bears. Eddie Goldman actually got that sack, but clearly the pressure for MAC was a major factor later in the second same score and here comes back again was great about this plate. He's chipped by the tide in then he turns it into a power rush. He gets to the quarterback. It's not enough, just get the sack. He searches out devolve his ball awareness is second tonight in the NFL right now he's not just pressuring the quarterback. He's causing turnovers. Mitchell. Trubisky did not have a great night, but there is a good ball to Anthony Miller, and they say, no, Anthony, Miller is a stood. He was a revelation to training camp for this team. It's why they drafted him where they did. They're going to get him more involved in office Seahawks really had very little offense on all night long. That was the one big play Tyler Lockett in one thousand nine yard touchdown, catch the other touchdown. They would score would come in total garbage time in the final seconds when it was still a game, this was what happened. Seattle was down seven, and there's prince amukamara go on the other way and that basically I stay. This is a great play. You have a running back split out at wide receiver. There's no. The pressure on a cornerback. He jumps the route right away. It's about making the catch, and then you walk into the end zone and suing drive. Second verse same as the first that defense forcing the football out that's treve thin. In this time, daddy surveyed the new robot Smith are going to form a very fast silent silent linebacking corps to add to their foot. You're gonna have to continue with this bears team all year. It threw it off, get the win. Does this defense take and leading the National Football League right now? Those news to me. That's a great. It doesn't matter. The covers Russia covers working together. Yeah, coach code Vig. Everybody goes everybody in. Yes. Very difficult ninety take after last week and this week because we, we used to this when some football games and get rolling. Frustrating star for Seattle, but going back to MAC, how savvy was that answer, giving credit to the coverage and everything else. Team guy, and the bears defense without face to Super Bowl winning quarterback this year Rogers and Wilson, they've allowed them to complete just five of sixteen attempts when pressured for net loss, but fifteen yards..

"His weekend up survey shins will be in a little over ten minutes. They're very popular. I get them all the time. They're less popular with me. He loves to come in here and point his fingers at me, and I just to create the visual for you. It's sort of like he's shaking out his arm from the shoulder until it arrives at his sausage finger. And then he just points one of his sausage fingers that me and he's like a danno danno. Listen Gruden took off the glasses. He listened to me took off the glasses and it worked for a while, but then it didn't work anymore. Now that was to God's analysis of John gruden's Sunday last analysis a week ago was the Gruden looked really old with those bifocals around his around his neck. Yep, yesterday took him off. He looked great. He looked young. He looked. Like he was refreshed ready to go, and he was so close. So close for me saying, John ridden raiders back. I could just as easily be too in this team. We have no idea what we're watching every single not look good. They're opening week just as easily to know they dominated by LA they they had elite at halftime though. I mean they were looking good in that first half three touchdown. Yeah. And then this guy, I mean, preacher of accountability. I mean, how about Jon Gruden? He is managed in two weeks. The blame Reggie McKenzie to blame the fact that he doesn't have a pass rusher. He traded Khalil Mack, I don't care. You can tell me McKenzie, did it? You're the guy charge, and he's also blamed, Derek, Carr. I, this guy is unbelievable. I mean, just Monday night football booth for a decade. Strolls out of the booth is making more money than anyone in the NFL. Any coach, any executive anyone, any player for that matter? And he doesn't wanna take any accountability is gonna blame it on Reggie McKenzie. Gimme a break as a terrible job. Jon Gruden. I do find funny he doesn't make more than any player in the league. That's totally bogus made up stat. I do find funny though that Jon Gruden didn't bother to start critiquing players until he started coaching. Like. Until they actually played for him. When is John good? Never said anything bad about any player ever. He's he's, I love football guy. I'm here for spider k. but in a football loves every player loves every coach. I'm certain at some point he loved Reggie McKenzie. Absurd. When am I wrong about this to Jon Gruden in his role as critic? Never criticize players. Because it feels like he's a better broadcast critic as a coach than he was broadcast critic. He's burying its own team. And as always it's never the coaches home? Nope. He's always been consistent about that one point. Never think. Of course it gets there with the blind spot of this is everyone's fault, but mine how could it ever be the coaches, all the coaches, always right? He's the coach who is Khalil max fault because he didn't want to be here obviously. And so what does he say yesterday we can't get a pass, rush, coach, traded it. Lisa, he was old and out. He didn't want to be here, man, I understand. But the reason you're just because that guy plays in Chicago. Now you traded him. Hire pets run the whole thing shifted off from Oakland to Chicago. Savior, Jon Gruden. Ten. Well, I mean, it's a little early to call him not the savior, this a ten year contract, and he started, oh and two..

"Getting knocked down on the football field makes you. But getting back up makes you tougher at Goodyear. We call that determination a willingness to put in more hours more reps and more heart to reach a bar that sky high because the Goodyear blimp doesn't show up for just anybody. So don't be just anybody be blimp worthy Goodyear more driven, the people that stayed up for the end of the Sunday night football game. Got exactly what they wanted. What a game, it was the first half Khalil Mack. The bears dominated. Gers got hurt relief. Off. It looks like the Packers was over, but he came back in the second half, not only did he come back. The Packers came back to win the game, twenty points down winning by the score of twenty four, twenty three what a game that was Jalen rose. What do you think of Aaron Rodgers and the pack in the comeback? He's a terrific quarterback. No surprise that he was able to lead his team to victory, especially after sustaining a knee injury, show a lot of courage return to the game. It was the first time in his career is thrown three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter for the bears. It's a sore blow because they're a team not has an identity. And if you don't have an elite level quarterback like air going gonna, take a lot of salary on your cap, then you invested in Khalil Mack Trubisky pretty good. And so going with the tradition of a single Terry of buckets and lacquer. They're used to having that defensive prowess when they're at their best Trafton row crown Smith in earth's round. But again, as you label this all about Aaron Rogers and his ability to lift a Green Bay, some of the throws he may were just spectacular in Khalil max first half was just dominant fumbles and interceptions in run bags and sacks and pressures. And he did just kind of disappear a little bit in the second half..

"Sports dot com via the coward global satellite network. You know, it's funny. I see in this Peter, I, I was very reluctant to say LeBron was coming to the Lakers because I live in Los Angeles and everybody would go, oh, you're a Laker Homer. And I'm very reluctant to say the Rams and the chargers are great, but I looked down at your Europe predictions. You have the chargers and the Rams in the conference championships. So you you believe like me and you're on the east coast? I can't. I almost think Peter that we're being ridiculous. Not acknowledging the Rams may have the most complete roster, including kickers in the last several years. Do they not. Oh, I totally agree. Colin, I was at their camp and I just, I don't see a weakness now that they've got to cover corners. The only thing they probably don't have is the exterior rushers on defense. Yeah, with with the damage that Aaron Donald and an endowment can sue, I think, are going to do in the middle of that line that's going to compensate for the loss of Robert Quinn and not having a pure pass rusher. I thought it was great that news leak that les Snead called about Khalil Mack. I mean, you talk about the rich getting richer. If they had MAC man, they might go seventeen and a sixteen game regular season. Let's talk about Khalil Mack. I get tired of hearing like in Green Bay. We can't pay Aaron Rodgers and Khalil Mack and I'm like, listen, that's why it's called the draft. I don't wanna hear that. You can't pay Derek Carr and Khalil Mack. I think the raiders made a mistake year thoughts. I know the raiders made a mistake. I think it's a debacle what the raiders did. Colin I did this in my Monday column this week. I basically factored out the salary cap over the next six years based on the last five years and the salary cap is going to go up about ten million dollars a year. If it does then Khalil max contract, his average salary is averaged cap number is going to be ten to eleven percent of the bear salary cap. Now you tell me if you said to all the general managers in football all give you the best defensive player in football or one of the two or three best defensive players in football, and you have to pay him ten to eleven percent of the salary cap in his prime over the last over the next seven years. I think the majority general managers would do it. It just so happens that the raiders do not employ those general manager by the way it should be. Noted in a division with Aaron Rodgers and Matt Stafford and Kirk cousins, and you have Mitch Trubisky, the least talented. I can make a real analytic argument that I have to reduce the effectiveness of my rival quarterbacks in division. And if you add Khalil Mack to that, bear defensive front, you can't double team anybody..

"So it's the ninety million dollars. And I actually though they'll Gruden through Reggie McKenzie under the bus and said, some half truths in his press conference. The one thing he said, which is what the Packers GM reiterated and you hear, if you talk to NFL people is you can't have two guys take up twenty percent of the cap. You just can't. The raiders have to build an entire defense, not one guy. They weren't winning defensively with just one guy, no matter how good Cleal. MAC was defense wasn't any good, and then you're gonna throw ninety million dollars guaranteed. So yeah. And then look at the teams who wanted him right. The bills, the jets teams without a quarterback, making top quarterback money. The only team with top quarterback money that was willing to trade for him was the San Francisco forty Niners, and that's because they have an incredible depth of one salary cap space and to all those draft picks that they have accrued and even they weren't willing to go to the ends that the bears were willing to go to. The bears have a quarterback that's on a rookie deal. And that allows them to put this out of money into the linebacker position. I actually think it was a smart move for the long term play of the raiders to trade Khalil Mack, but it should be noted, Green Bay's, unique situation. They can't get free agents. So to get a star, you have to get him in the draft and let's not kid ourselves. There are no Khalil max generally in drafts, there are no Aaron Rodgers generally and drafts. I could make an argument, you know, Mike, Lombardi, who we both know has a theory and I always thought it was a smart one. He goes, if you're in a port city, Miami New York, Los Angeles, New Orleans, draft, maturity port cities stay up later, and they're wild. Green Bay is the opposite of that. They can't get free agent. Couldn't. I argue you're never gonna get Lawrence Taylor. You're never gonna get Khalil Mack in Green Bay. No, you're you're well, they did one on one time. Yeah, right Reggie one time they buy one Super Bowls. They did. I think that again, this is this is what complicates it with air. Aaron Rodgers contract, right? Everyone knows Aaron Rodgers deserves the money, but how much money can you take? And he took was it eighty million dollars? He's gonna make any year eighty dollars in cash. So I just I don't think you can tie up that amount of money even if you think you're this close with two first round draft picks. It's it's it's, it's one or the other. And for some teams, it's both one. You can't give up for two first round picks, and the other ninety million dollars guaranteed to one defensive player is a huge, huge risk, and it sucks up all of your cap room. Your inability to make other moves like the raiders backed themselves in the corner with an off season in which they overspent an undervalued Khalil Mack and they did and remember the defense of market had been stagnant for three years. It had moved had moved von Miller is contract set the market, but no one had had had jumped over, but then the Aaron Donald thing happens, it'll yeah. By the way, I think this all relates to Levy on bell and on bells now in, hey, maybe I don't show up. Maybe I forced them to. Give me maybe I forced him to give me a long term contract because he sees what happens in l. a. with the Rams relented and they're going to be in salary cap, hell in the upcoming off season. And he sees that the raiders finally wave the white flag and trade away Khalil Mack, Doug Gottlieb joining us the Duggar after my show on Fox Sports radio. "FOX NFL reporter goes good morning football on another network. The NFL network Peter Schrager. All right. Let's Khalil Mack. I don't like what the raiders did, but my guess is the Chicago Bears who already had a pretty interesting defense got better. What were the? Why did the bears eventually make that move? Because he listened when you're giving up couple of first round picks. Those are gold bars. Everybody loves those. Like tell me how it went down. Yeah, Colin this actually starting February and I don't think Jon Gruden and Reggie McKenzie messed up the last few weeks. What happened was in February, everyone meets at the combine, and if you've got a guy going into the final year of his contract, especially at Twenty-seven-year-old player who's an all pro at two positions, a former defensive player of the year, who's pretty much a Saint off the field. You like to lock those guys up long term and the raiders offered a deal to clear max agents. Max agents came back five days later with a deal at the raiders thought was just stratospheric way off way off. Sure enough. He doesn't show up says, we're too far apart an Aaron, Donald Steele gets done last Friday. And guess what it was. It was less than what Khalil Mack was asking for. So he was almost the deal where Khalil max agents said, we wanted this number and it was actually more reasonable that what Aaron Donald God. So at that point, the raiders said, we can't pay Derek Carr, twenty five million dollars a can't pay Khalil Mack twenty five million dollars in feel the team. However, I do blame grew to the raiders because back in February, if you open lines of communication, you can get creative. You can start playing around with the salary cap. You can make some other move throughout free agency so that you do have that. Instead, they went nuclear spring. They didn't talk to Maxine. They said, you guys are crazy. You'll never get that. Guess what? Aaron Donald. Got it. And then the Chicago Bears paid MAC even more. So, yeah, if you're a raiders fan, you can be disappointed, not so much for the trade to the bears, but for the fact that they didn't have the communication throughout March April, June July. As for the other teams, the bears weren't the only ones, the bills, the Browns, the jets. The forty Niners came in with a very good offer. They all wanted Khalil Mack, but no one made a better offer them the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Bears paid them. The highest. Faye defensive contract in the history of the league. You can't blame either side at that one. Okay. Lady and bells out. I like him a lot. It's a big number. You say this situation's a little tricky for the Steelers. It is and they went through this last year and Levy on bell showed up week ones. Little rusty only at thirty two yards. Then he caught fire and was fine. Everyone thinks the Steelers have all the leverage in this one because Levy on Bill Clinton, a Goshi eight, a contract with them throughout this season, and he certainly can't negotiate with another team. But what if Levy on bell doesn't show up? What is the show week to what have the show up week three almost like Khalil Mack was willing to do. Everyone tells me Levy on bell is supposed to show up Wednesday. That's tomorrow he's supposed to be there. But what if he doesn't? And the Steelers start off? Oh, in three. What if he does it in the Steelers are two in six going into week nine. Suddenly levian Bill has no tread on the tires. He's a free agent at the end of the season. He has no four hundred carry season where everyone says, oh, well, they burned them out and they carry the load and I don't want. And suddenly he's making. A statement for running backs everywhere because David Johnson's contract is coming up. Zekiye Elliott's is coming up Leonard fournette. And if you're going to pay a wide receiver like Odell Beckham and you're gonna pay a receiver like in Tonio and his team levian bell can make a stand not only for himself, but for the entire position and say what we deserve to be paid like those guys do as well..

"But this is a guy and Ryan pace, your general manager who believes in the roster that he has built who believes that he's got his young quarterback and his young coach hooked up to his young quarterback, and and even if you don't draft in the first round next couple years Khalil Mack is gonna be hunting, Aaron Rodgers hunting, Kirk cousins, and hunting. Matthew Stafford twice a year every year. That's what you want. That is why you're seeing. Offensive lineman in the in the AFC west, like Mitchell Schwartz, tweeting out memes of celebration that Khalil max gone. This is a guy that has defensive coordinators up at night all week, game planning. And I don't care. That the raiders didn't perform well with him. So how are they going to perform without him? And you got all these draft picks that it doesn't really matter. I don't buy that. I don't. That's been. I tweeted out over the weekend when it was rumored that this trade was about to happen that the only teams that trade away their high priced talent or don't pay their high priced talent for future considerations and draft picks the only teams that do that are rebuilding teams and that if the raiders were going to do this, this is all you need to know how Jon Gruden is evaluated this roster coming out of the booth, put this trade together with the fact that he has amassed and compiled with Reggie McKenzie the oldest group to start a week one in the National Football League season in over a decade twenty-seven. They're north of twenty seven years old. On average, that's an obscenely high number. Put that together the trade. With that. And the fact that Gruden comes out and says that ninety million dollars for a player like MAC is an astronomical number. Certainly since they're already paying their quarterback. And he himself is getting paid a hundred million guaranteed dollars to coach and shop the groceries put that all together. And what you have is just in unintelligible, mess of spin and game plan. Because if you are seeing your roster and remaking it into an older group, then you definitely have to keep Khalil Mack. This is what you got. You got a young quarterback and you got Cooper and you gotta run back like marshawn Lynch, and you got your line that you've basically also told her that one of your best players that he's got to take a pay cut in Donald Penn. And then instead of keeping your best player to win. Now with an older roster, you trade them away for future considerations than look at everybody else in the locker room who is put together on a letter late and team that knows that their window of opportunity is closing now and you're telling them we're not trying to win now. You're also telling future free agents come here..

"We told you that we were going to get to the best of the rest in college football hit a whole big slate a game. So we're going to, we're just got to push it back a little bit. Khalil Mack. Great. Raider pass rusher. There've been talk of potentially him leaving Oakland. It's happening. A source tells Adam Schefter that he has been traded to the Chicago Bears Mel. What's it mean. You know, I think for Oakland and John grooten in his first year in drafting guys like art and key inning off the edge and Hearst and hall on the defensive line. Feels like, hey, I wanna see what you got back because we talked about, oh, they're gonna get two ones. I thought that was not going to necessarily what they wanted to get a one, maybe a conditional high, pick or conditional high picks depending upon performance. So definitely a one. You gotta lock into that one. There's gotta be a one coming from Chicago and Ryan pace knows he needs a pass, rush, wonder, Floyd is he'd been the guy yet, so they need a guy can get after Aaron Rodgers and get after Kirk cousins can get after Matthew Stafford's about winning your division being competitive and getting it done in your division, beaten, those quarterback story, not beating Rogers cousins and certainly Stafford unless you get a pass rush. And that's what Khalil max forte is bears haven't had it. They make the move spouses better navy. You're gonna get in the draft when he's an optimum level. I just want to say what the raiders get back and it's got including one and then conditional high pick or to two years ago. Khalil Mack was the defensive player of the year and an early this morning. I just starting not even early, really started brewing about twenty twenty five minutes ago. You're starting to see in tweets. Guys like Ian Rapoport of NFL media. Albert breer of Sports Illustrated talking about may. The bears are getting interested. The bears are talking the. There's something to this team here, and there was a clear simmer starting, and it ends up happening according to ESPN. Adam Schefter a source telling him Khalil Mack traded to the Chicago Bears. This makes them a lot more interesting, doesn't it? Because I know you kinda like this team. Now they got the roquan Smith deal. He's not holding out anymore. So he's part of that linebacker group. We think an improving offense. You're too from Trubisky. Now you bring in a premier pass rusher. Suddenly those offensive lines of the lions and Packers Vikings. They're going to have to deal with him twice a year now. And I, it certainly makes things more interesting in the story. I think back when we came back in in the middle of August in the first show back about the linebackers we talked about even with draft, they linebackers with roquan Chicago, the bears monsters of the midway Bill. With line by the Butkus is the about Earl Aker you think about single, Terry, and Otis Wilson and Ron Rivera, and Wilbur Marshall when they were great. It was linebackers. There were two staple and now like, say, roquan and now you have Khalil Mack. So now you and Leonard Floyd if he emerges. But the bottom line is that's what this Chicago Bears team has been defined by great linebacker hall of fame linebacker play, and then you've got two guys in roquan and in Khalil Mack that had that hall of fame type of talent that URL Acker and single -tarian Marshall and Otis Wilson and buck this all brought to the table. Absolutely. So MAC off to the Chicago Bears. As broken by Adam Schefter and there was also I mean plenty of other news this week, right? Aaron, Donald and the Rams agreed away. Monster deal six years. One hundred thirty, five million of those numbers six or one fifty. I mean a ridiculous contract. The biggest ever in defensive player history. So the Rams have Aaron Donald. They're spending money all over the football field. And that's a team that has right now built for a run to the Super Bowl. It's a huge move for Gruden not to keep Khalil Mack and the bears of the beneficiary. Again, trade talks, it'd been really heating up over the last day or so for Khalil Mack..

"Like, wouldn't you at least like appease them and still have talks, but just say, hey, here's where we are with. It's just weird. Well, again, you talked about through the media. I find it hard to believe they haven't talked since February because first of all that would mean that Khalil max agent has not talked to them, and that would be kind of negligent on his part. Even if he gets hung up on or they don't return, it's called, I doubt that you know, I just doubt that or he could fly out to Oakland. I mean, it just seems to me that. I don't believe it now have they had offers, maybe not that that are realistic, but I just think it's hard to believe they haven't talked. Couple of other situations and want to get your thoughts on Andrew for sure. We haven't talked about this Stephen Jones, you know was asked about the Cowboys anthem policy and whether or not it's going to be a ruled that the players stand for the national anthem rather than stay in the locker room. And he said, if they wanna be a cowboy, yes. And my immediate reaction was, well, what are they gonna do if Tyron Smith, he's under contract below market for six more years or deck Prescott or Zeke Elliot, you know, protests during the anthem or stays in the locker room or whatever. I mean that it seems like it's a, it's a check that they can't really cash, and I almost wonder if you're an agent, you know if if you test that, hey, they said publicly. If you wanna be a cowboy, you gotta do these things. Maybe you should do them and try. To get released, which I doubt would happen. I'm just making a point. Yeah, happen again last year the same thing when there when Jerry Jones set in the middle of the season, then I think on this show and I speculated what if that crust cut sides he's going to Neo? Are they going to bench him? I mean, yeah, all these things come up where the Cowboys we talked years about Jerry Jones and Roger Goodell Jerry Jones suing Roger Goodell and Jerry Jones wanting power back with the owners Commissioner. And that's really what's going on here. It seems like because you know he might translation is you gotta deal with whatever policy you're going to deal with with the union. I'm giving the Cowboys are politics, and you know what? We haven't seen any sign of dissonance Trump players on that from the Cowboys. Every single one of them is equally on down. Yep. We're gonna total on here so we can call it whatever it is, but. Policy schmaltzy with the Cowboys. It's like they're doing their own thing. And if Roger Goodell wants to impose on Jerry Jones, I'm sure he'll get quite a hand quite controls. Words. If he tries to do that. Finally, Andrew, it's college football, but I still want to get your reaction, your thoughts on the urban Meyer situation because it's just it's really just disappointing, I guess. And what what you think of what's happened so far and what you expect that, but I'm sure you're following. Yeah. I mean, the lack of disclosure, the knowledge of something going on. I think we talk about this all the time. With Rick Pacino a now with urban Meyer with Larry Brown, the best book coach, Jim behind. I just think you know it is..

"Twitter feed at Spain and Fitz at sarahspain at Nick Friedel. While the other comment from Jon Gruden that's been getting a lot of pub is when he was on the NFL network, talking about the raiders defense, and I'm going to read you exactly what he said and get your reaction before I tell you what I think he said we weren't very good last year on defense with Khalil Mack. We didn't have an interception I think all year. I don't know if we intercepted a pass until week fourteen we gotta get a better pass rush. We got to play better defense period and we hope Khalil gets here. But in the time being we've got plenty of guys who need work. Now I point. Out the stats weren't quite right. The first interception of the season didn't come to the eleventh game, not the fourteenth and they did finish dead last in the NFL with just five picks raiders defense not good. And MAC did start all sixteen games, but a lot of people are looking at that as a dig unclear Mak. What do you make that comment? I look, I don't think it's a dig on MAC so much as it's dig on the entirety of how poor that defense was throughout the year. I mean, Khalil Mack. Anybody watches football knows just how big of an impact player. This guy is he can change an entire game by himself, which is really rare for for that kind of team sport the raiders on the whole. They need to get back up to that level that we've seen in years past where you kind of fear everything about them, but especially the defense when you roll into town. So I don't put as much stock into it as I know other people have when they they saw and they red grooms words. My concern is that there is a chance that he misspoke because it makes more sense when being asked about the holdout to say, we weren't very good last year on defense, even with colonic we didn't do this. We didn't do that. We hope Khalil gets her. But in the time being we got plenty of guys who need work to me that reads, like Khalil max, not the issue. We had a bad defense altogether. There's a ton of guys we need to work with. We'll get to him when he gets here. Now, I don't know if that's the case I might be giving him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't earn. But when we had Mark Trestman do as opening presser for the bears a couple years ago, he announced very confidently. We're going to have a team that's selfish and undisciplined. Sometimes coaches miss speak. He didn't mean to say the team was going to be selfish and undisciplined, and he certainly didn't have a crystal ball to know that the team would be selfish and undisciplined. What he wanted to say was unselfish and disciplined, jacked it up because some times guys misspeaking. So I wonder if that's what was happening, but Elsie. Granderson had an interesting take on sports nation that this is just him asserting his power, and that is a great theory as well. He didn't miss beak. He wasn't trying to say, even with the league's best pass. Rusher was still the navigate d. He was saying intentionally Khalil Mack is not enough for us to be good. I'm taking a shot and he's not here yet because he wants to assert power, which is what he's done since he got there, including immediately getting rid of their punter who had a little bit too much personality and not just a surpassed sales these point. But certainly as an old school football coach, what else will that do? Not only would potentially make Khalil Mack angry, but it'll motivate him and he'll come in and say, all right. All right, new guy, I'm gonna show you what I'm all about and I'm gonna prove to you that I'm better than what you think in that case. Well, we'll certainly see if gruden's tactics, payoff, ignoring new statistics asserting his power potentially taking a jab at the best player on his team. We'll see. Right, Spain and Fitz. That's right. Always coming up. Next, Jenny dial Creech from the Houston chronicle.
