Official election ballots are either in route or are now being received by registered voters in California. KFBK is Aubrey Aquino has been keeping tabs on local activities as we begin the election month. 2020. So Aubrey, do we know how many people are showing up to cast their ballots with early voting? I checked in with both Sacramento and YOLO counties to see how early voting kicked off Monday morning, and they both said their offices are seeing a heightened interest across the board when it comes to enquiries and scrutiny for voter registration in early voting. Sacramento County's Gemma Haines said the early voting turnout was absolutely different from elections past. We actually had a line of people outside, waiting to come into requested that about to vote and I don't think historically that has ever happened. On 29, which is 29 days before the election. Pain's noticed Many of the people who should've early wanted to get their ballots. They didn't want to wait for it to come in the mail. She also noted that as a result of the voters choice Act mailing ballots to registered voters. It's nothing new in Sacramento County. They were the first well one of the first in California to pilot program back in 2018. So Aubrey are county election officials having to prepare differently then for this election YOLO County's registrar of voters. Jesse Salinas explained to me that he knows all registrars in the state have been hard at work to ensure voters can feel safe and secure when they're submitting their ballots into the system, he said. The dynamics of a historic election overlapping a pandemic has brought up truly challenging issues what I would call the most critical election In terms of the capacity of any registers across the state to be ableto find, manage this because it's a presidential with a pandemic, So it's unlike anything any of us have ever encountered. Salinas also commented that the voters who have showed up in his office to cast their belts early, have already said that they had their minds made up on who they're voting for, and they just want to get it done. Okay. Aubrey Aquino. Thank you very much for that report. It sounds like you know, everyone's are hard at work to make sure that people feel confident about being able to cast their ballots and you know as that, that first woman said, we I have been doing this a long time.
