The latest in the NFL

"NFL week 17 roundup, I'm Dave fairy. Three teams are now battling for the last NFC wild card birth and one is the packers is Mark Daniels reports. You have enough for debt a month ago, the Green Bay Packers dominated the NFC north champion Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field 41 17 for their fourth in a row. Fell behind three to nothing after a block pond early, but keyshawn Nixon took the next kick-off back a 105 yards for a touchdown packers didn't stop until it was 41 three, midway through the fourth. This one out 12 and four while the 8 and 8 packers need only to beat the Detroit Lions in their finale at home to secure the NFC's final wild card spot. The Lions also enjoyed a blowout win. Denny cap was there. The lion's defense sacks Justin Fields 7 times in a 41 ten route of the bears, Lions rookie James Houston tally three sacks in just a 6 game of the season and now leads all NFL rookies with 8 of them on the year as his team stays in the playoff hunt, improving the 8 and 8. We coming together as a team, everybody is getting better, man. Everybody's doing their job. Everybody's executing when they're supposed to execute. Houston also forced a fumble of fields who completed just 7 of 21 for 75 yards. The Seahawks also have postseason hopes. Jim Bernard has the details. The Seattle Seahawks kept their playoff hopes alive with a 23 6 win over the New York Jets. Gino Smith passed for 183 yards and two touchdowns as the seahawk snapped a three game losing streak. Obviously, we hit a rough patch and it's not what we want, but we still got a shot. And so what we can control is winning next week, another tough opponent. But all we can do is control what we can control and look at the situation at hand. The jets committed three turnovers to drop their fist straight game, which eliminated them from postseason contention. The Giants have extended their season, Mike mancuso reports. The Giants have clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2016 with a 38 to ten win over Indianapolis. Daniel Jones led the way he threw for a 177 yards and two TDs. He ran for 91 yards with touchdown runs of 18 and ten yards. Just to exciting, I think, like I said, we've been through some been through some tough times and to be on this side of it is a lot of fun. Landon Collins returned the Nick Foles and interception, 52 yards for a touchdown as the Giants built a 24 to three halftime lead. The eagles must have the chance to clinch the top seat in the NFC playoffs. Here's Michael luongo. The states picked up their third straight, where were they 2010 went over the eagles, New Orleans, took the 7th thing, they didn't know one yard run by Taysom Hill. They sealed the victory when Marshawn latimer put another pass by Gardner and menchu and ran it back 11 yards for a score and a Dalton through two to four yards for the saints who improved the 7 and 9 when you look at how you finish the season. There's a lot to say for that and there's a lot that you can carry over and you want to be playing your best football at the end of the year and I feel like we're doing that. Mention had one touchdown pass for the Bridget is still clinched against the eastern Division Championship and the number one overall seed with the win next week. Eric waddell watched the Buccaneers clinch a playoff birth. Tampa Bay out lasted Carolina 30 to 24. The win for the bucks clinched the NFC south title, bucks wide receiver Chris Godwin had a 120 receiving yards and says his team is building for whoever Tampa plays in the playoff. My legacy gets anybody, man. You know, and I feel like we, you know, we still got a ways to go. We still got some things that we got to work on. But, you know, that was a big step for us. The Patriots still have playoff hopes. Gregg cadets, reports. The New England Patriots kept their playoff hopes alive with a 23 21 come from behind victory over the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots took the lead for good in a third quarter interception return for a touchdown by Kyle Duggar. The pick 6 made it four straight weeks at the Patriots defense escort a touchdown. The Steelers stayed alive in the playoffs with a 1613 win versus the ravens that commanders were eliminated with a 24 ten loss to the browns. The chiefs beat the Broncos 27 24. The Jaguars crushed the Texans 31 three. The forty-niners earned their 9th street win by beating the Raiders 37 34 and overtime. The Chargers hammered the rams 31 ten and the falcons earned a 2019 victory over the Cardinals. I'm Dave ferry, AP sports.

Rodgers, Packers rout Vikings 41-17, control playoff fate

"Given up for dead a month ago, the Green Bay Packers dominated the NFC north champion Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field 41 17 for their fourth in a row. Fell behind three to zero after a block pond early, but keyshawn Nixon took the next kick-off back a 105 yards for a touchdown packers didn't stop until it was 41 three, midway through the fourth. Fred kilchmann Thor of the pack, there's still alive. Super proud of our guys, just we talked about playing a complete game in all three phases, and I thought that's what happened tonight. This will allow 12 and four while the 8 and 8 packers need only to beat the Detroit Lions in their finale at home to secure the NFC's final wild card spot. Mark Daniels Green Bay.

"In Los Angeles in Justin Herbert that was a high first round pick that they're going to look to move on from him after year one. The same thing for Josh Rosen in Arizona. If Josh Rosen had done anything as a rookie, Kyler Murray wouldn't be there for you. There's no doubt what you're that part is true. But let's not make it sound like if Justin Herbert was an undrafted rookie and he's done what he's done so far, they're not looking. In other words, Jalen hurts. I promise you if he was an undrafted rookie, it had played the way that he's been playing. They're still looking. Will they be in train to do it? They strapped. They'd be insane to do it. I mean, like, if you're still looking and you got Justin Herbert, you got a problem. It doesn't matter if they're saying it. But by the way, it's draft status. That is the way this league is built. Just look at you, where you're drafted. Just I was going to say, the one thing that we're not talking about is people are always going to say crazy stuff. Like that always happens, especially for a team that they want to be, they want to see successful. The best thing that could continue to happen to Jalen hurts is that people question whether or not he's the guy. That's been the theme of his entire career. It just fuels the fire for him, guys. I know he talks about his leadership off the field. Jalen hurts sent a letter to the Washington football team. And the NFL today asking, and I quote, what follow-up action is being considered after a railing at FedEx field collapse Sunday Night, which sent fans tumbling into nearly hit them, and he followed up with a letter to the Washington to the football team and to the league. It's grown man stuff, you know, Jalen hurts his the kind of guy that is very easy to root for and the kind of guy you want to be the face of your franchise, but now he's got a consistently performed to do it. His peaks are certainly high enough. He just got to get more consistent now. I don't know how I feel about the letter, the public letter. I get safety, obviously everybody is aware that there are safety concerns when you see something like that happen and the people that got hurt and you're happy that he didn't get hurt. But I don't know. It still feels a little bit slightly weird to me. Am I off? Like it's like he's like way off he's looking for my wife. Why am I way off? Because we'll talk we'll discuss when we come back and break. Keyshawn J will and max is presented by Progressive Insurance, all guests on the Goodyear hotline. "So many routes. Keyshawn J weller max on ESPN radio and ESPN2 Chris Garland Harry Douglas and for the fellas today. Here was Dan orlowski yesterday with you and Allen Hahn and for the guys on why the cowboys are not that good in his opinion. I don't think there's a single part of the Dallas Cowboys that I trust. Honestly, I really don't. I think yesterday they're stars did not play like stars in critical moments. I saw it drops by Zeke Pollard or Zeke and Tony Pollard. I saw missed throws on third down by deck Prescott. I saw massive penalties. I saw missed blocks by their offense. I saw their star cornerback, get beat on a double move. So I think there's stars didn't play like stars in critical moments. And then I think they have very little discipline and critical moments. I counted 8 penalties. 8 penalties and critical moments yesterday. Absolutely brutal. When that is the number in those situations. And then there's the head coach. We have been critical of Mike McCarthy. A lot of people have, but justifiably so, like almost literally chapter in verse, there is a list of situations where he has been bad. In fact, one of our producers have been sent this yesterday with pointing out week two chargers. Let's time check off the clock. None of his coaches could see the clocks. Week three, eagles up 20 to 7 at the end of the half. Let's a minute and 20 seconds run off the clock. Week 6 week 15, week 17. At some point when that is your trend, your head coach is hurting you. He is not even not helping you. He's not even neutral. He is hurting you, Harry. Okay, Chris, you want to know another thing I was taught to on talking on the level of the penalties and the Dallas Cowboys leading the National Football League right now. I was always taught either it's being coached that way or the head coaches allowing it to happen. For them to be the number one team in penalties right now, that is terrible. And either Mike McCarthy's coaching it that way, or he's allowing it to continue on. But they better get it fixed. Look, I don't think they will. I fully believe the cowboys will be an early or second round exit. I could absolutely see that being the case. It's keyshawn J will and max. "Like to welcome in now the greet buster only espn baseball insider host of the baseball tonight. Podcast can follow at buster underscore. Espn buster always great to talk to you. Guys are man so buster. The dodgers clinched their ninth street playoff spot with a win last night. How important is it for them to actually win the division though with these surprising giants well. It's it's absolutely huge. The funny thing was about nine days ago. We had the dodgers and giants sunday night. Baseball and i asked that very question of neighbors. The dodgers manager any kind of blinked looked at me and he goes. You know what it's too out. I haven't even given a thought right. He's still in the moment of the regular season. But you know now down the stretch with less than three weeks ago it's going to become a focal point because we've seen time and again how great players can be derailed. By that wildcard game. There were a couple of years Seven eight years ago when it looked like at the end of the regular season the pittsburgh pirates were the best team in the national league but they had to go through wildcard game and it back to back years they face madison bumgarner to the beginning of the greatest postseason run. We've ever seen any pitcher that was in two thousand fourteen and they lost and then the next year they got jake arrieta at the end of the greatest second half we ever saw from pitcher And they lost again and so the dodgers have a chance to be the first team to win back to back titles since The nineteen ninety. Eight to two thousand yankees. I think that the best team in baseball right now but one game. You just never

And i would be remiss if i didn't mentioned one of my favorite books of all time. The book you wrote After your i think your rookie season and if ever a title of a book described the individual the name of the book is just give me the damn ball That is you keyshawn johnson. That was your first book Many many years ago. Yeah that is kuwait cool was it was a book that was it was. It was kinda depicting my rookie season in the national football league. "We are back and it is great To have keyshawn johnson on the program who is of course Part of espn radio's morning team. And you see him all the time and truly one of the great football players in college in. Nfl history the first player taken in the nfl draft after he was an all american at usc. Keyshawn it is real. Been with you a million times on your shows have been around you and What a pleasure to have you come into our little neighborhood good afternoon. No you're not small man not with that call or call it. The the the pine bomb nation says you. You certainly have a following from the east of the west coast and all in between for sure with you max. Kellerman this morning and kellerman was Impugning my good name about my shrinking influence in college. Football and the main reason is that usually I get accused of being a coach killer but you ended up getting fired. This time around Keyshawn very outspoken about klay hilton in the aftermath of the embarrassment. Saturday night in keyshawn. Of course Seemed like he was inevitable Once once that game ended you seem to be ahead of the curve on that. Well i think you you know. It was something that needed to happen. At the time in our leadership we need to go in another direction in order to get back on track as you know many years at you as you covered college football weary tile program that has kind of been repeat washing. Ranch repeat washing rent and we wanted to finally get away from that Yes if we were in the final. Four at the end of the season play extension. If we lose a game you probably fire. Well guess what. We lost the game. And i and i think this was the situation might bone that. The athletic director had an opportunity to evaluate Clay hill nova period of time and he came away feeling along with carol folks. The president university that it was time to make a leadership change. And you know when you are proud of your university and you wanna see your university talked about with the light of the alabama clemson the ohio states in the world right now in college football. That is something that you want to hear. You don't wanna hear that. Oregon in the pac twelve is head and shoulders above the usc football program. You don't wanna hear that because as much money as phil knight has it as much money feel nike and company to oregon's athletic program till night is the university of southern california I'll touchdown in deeper. Conversation routes call if you go back to nineteen seventy in the late sam bam cunningham and i tell people all the time say. He's the reason the the sec. He integrated asking americans or better yet. He's play persuaded their bryant to integrate the alabama program. But that was all usc when you have that rich history of something. You want to make sure that that could teams and we. We got away from that. We got away from that rich history. And now we're trying to get back there. And hopefully whoever they hired the next year coach will understand vicious dot university in this about a game to play with. When you come to be a trojan head coach sean. I want to talk about that for a second. Because you're right and you know we're we're a lotta younger people. Watching or listening. I mean they know pete carroll and they've seen what's happened since but but john mccain as one of the greatest coaches and in college football history john robinson. There's a long line of sc coaches who who are who are part of the hall of fame and who who helped build this. When you played there you grew up in los angeles. I'm curious what it was like. It'd be part of that university because it has lost some of that. At least from a perceptive standpoint you apply. I grew up a stone. Throw away from the university. My apartment building. We can sit on top. It's almost like the chicago cubs stadium. I can sit on top of our roof in watch mark. Maguire hit a home run or randy. Johnson strikeout people. When i was growing up. That was all. I knew if you didn't want to go to. Usc it was either one thing you were not good enough. It wasn't a matter of wasn't even wasn't even close to anything of it. Well he's probably not good enough that's why he's going somewhere else. In this day and age we got players leaving southern california to go all over the country. That is not acceptable. You you bree cardinal and gold this to one program on the west coast that i would say people support the university's football program. Even though they didn't attend university see again. There are people better. Usc fan bed did not attend the university. That is how rich the supporting system is in the football program. In and it's i remember. I remember running out of the tunnel in nineteen ninety five and when i came out of college tunnel and i stepped on the grass. Paul you thought. I was a six year old baby. Who stepped on a nail. I cry with big tears. Because i finally got a chance to run out of the tunnel where the us a uniform and it was amazing. Chilling in that is what we have always been about guys dreaming as kids of becoming usc football players. You go to rouge a weekend. There kids who dream of running out of the lsu tunnel you go to alabama. Oh my god. There were kids that dream of running out of alabama journal. Well that's not the case anymore and we've got to get back to that question that's been asked all day long or at least since yesterday as you know. What should the leadership at this university. Your university do. I know you you. You are part of that. You'll be consulted you'll be asked What would you tell them if they if and when they ask you get it right get right listen rush lifts not do something for self-preservation A lot of times we felt as part of the university and that the several hires in the past was because the athletic department mini me. People were in the afternoon apartment for many years so the easy thing was. Hey let's hire somebody. That was part of pete carroll's situation and we now could be taken care of and make sure self-preservation we don't going where everything will be fine and higher lane kiffin. There's higher steve sir keith you oh this. Fire lane kiffin. Let's not go in bringing body we're gonna get our oldest fire. Oda best thing to do is just hire somebody on his staff the preservation what i would say to that is at that time based on where steve sarkisian was in his personal life in where our university was. The best thing to do was hire somebody who calmed the waters in a guy with clear hilton. He was not going to create the same sort of issues that a young immature lane. Kiffin created or a young immature. Steve sarkisian created for the university was going to be stabilized in. Hopefully he would mature into their head. Coaching role in guinness over the top for the national championship. Now we've seen that now. We need to hire somebody that can take us to the next step who that somebody is right now. I have no idea. I have no idea. I know what a person will look like when i see it all right now..

So i think you're going to see them as a challenger for the cfp you don't don't bounce back. No i don't think florida state is dead. I think their season went down the drain. And i see no road back for that program. Thank you mrs. Lincoln did you enjoy. I mean listen. I thought after the notre dame game this the seminoles on a lot to build on but i i think they threw it all away and You see you see. I didn't see anything in that game. That impressed me you watch watch watch the last play of the game It tells you everything you need to know about that program. Let's continue and sam is up next in kentucky. Hello sam hello paul Not a data frequent collar but very frequent listener. Very much. Like a mike from jasper. Uh i'm recently retired and also seventy two years old. And i think we're headed into what i call the best one hundred to one hundred twenty days of college sports and i just wanted to call and command you all for the good job as you i have. I'm a little bit of a traditional traditionalist. Paul if help me. I'd like you to champion something that you know. We got texas and oklahoma coming in and twenty four to thirty six months. Maybe and we need to straighten out something for texas. Okay do me a favor of raise your right hand up and hold up your index finger and your little thanks and that's the way people in texas right now kind of do the hook them horns while in my hay day back in the middle of the last century hook. Them horns was the index finger. The middle finger were down. The little finger stuck it up in the thumb stuck out and hold your hand up like that that is hook them horns. Oh so. I don't think they need to straighten it out and you play is a clearing house for the top drawer league in the country's south eastern conference. And if you do that you could straight those people from texas out. I know horns down better than horns up I had enough people in arkansas. Teach me how to do it. Yes well hey hold your hand up now. Now what what do you call this when your fingers are weird when join your your middle finger and your third finger down. Have your an that way your little finger near tom. Straight out cameron. And if you do that that's the way a texas longhorn steer looks. Is that a steer right there. Okay well turn you. Yeah turn your hand round. I'm holding mine up here at home right now. I took them horn. You're you're right Every steer i've ever known look more like that than the than the traditional. Hey thanks so much for the call. We have plenty of time to get an education on the horns up appreciate it. Let's check in with pappy. Who is up next in houston. Hello pappy. I had no paul. Thanks for taking my call. Thank you listen. Just curious From my assessment Presuming we win the other two. Talk about lsu when the other two cupcake games. We've got to win three games. Three games to avoid losing a losing season and four to to have a winning season. Could you go down the scheduling and let me know which three or fourteen g think. We have the best shot at this point time. Considering all the play from the first two weeks of the season we have her schedule. So i see a win against central michigan. That puts you a two in one. And i for the life of me cannot predict Any other game other than monroe. See four wins for automatic wins. That's hold on one. Two three three three wins and give me a fourth win. What's the next easiest win. Can't find one you. Yeah no yeah. I see what you're saying now if you want to talk about what. The most critical game of the season is going to be. It's going to be mississippi state a loss. There is going to devastate the season because then Auburn kentucky florida at on this at alabama. I mean that's that's that is a murderer's row. And then the arkansas. An finish show. I i i happen to think. Lsu will get through. Some of the. I don't think lsu will have a losing season. I think they'll have a winning season and it's four. Sec teams okay. okay. I think i think the most winnable games are going to be auburn and arkansas. Okay read the reason simple. There are at home. Yeah okay all right well thank you. I appreciate your alison. I just wanted to thank you for an interesting about your call is we. Went from thinking Lsu go ten and to easily to now. We're not sure where they're going to win it. It's you don't know yet i mean i. I still happen to think. They've got a lot of great players on that team. So i would go on the high side but i really do need to see the mississippi state game because lsu has left a lot to be desired. Mitch is up next in florida. Hello mitch hey. How are you doing today mitch. We were doing great. Thank you well. I'm a kennedy ball down here in florida. And i wanted to talk about the quarterback situation at ut knoxville. Okay sure I just can't help but feel that harris Bailey that they put those two quarterbacks in before he him and Why wouldn't hair some bailey. go train. Spur proposal if them coaches him to quarterbacks was bad you're you're right. I mean know. One from virginia tech one from michigan. And suddenly you think you have a shot at starting being a starter and the next thing you know. You're you're relegated to the back of the bench. Yeah Milton i'm mean wide. Receivers run the nope. And he stole it hundred miles an hour over their head and the khokar he could throw a little bit. Around the line of scrimmage out. I just don't believe able one of them of better than harrison bailey. Who was recruited by tennessee into their program. Mitch i think comes under. The heading of new is better. We we see that in in every industry and every business. And i. I suspect josh hypo got there and said you know what I don't like what the previous group had. And.

"Welcome to another day. Great to have all of you here on this tuesday. Thanks for being a part of the program. We think we have a pretty good show on tap and we hope you'll just stick around as long as you can. You can stick around the whole show. That's four hours of your life right there. let's get some headlines and let you know what is happening in. yeah. The florida situation remains interesting. What should they do. They have to good quarterbacks or do they. I know one thing is certain. They have alabama coming in this weekend. Shane beamer remember. He was here last night telling us that his kids were second guessing him today. He's not second guessing. Anyone he's laying the platitudes at the feet of kirby smart and the georgia bulldogs. Can you guess that is the next game saturday night. You guys know better than me. You many of you have followed. Sec football warmer than i have but he may have probably does have the most talented football team in the history of georgia football and that's not an embellishment and coachspeak and all of that when you look at From top to bottom the eleven that start on offense the eleven that start on defense all of their special teams units the depth. They have the size the physicality the speed. They have hold on just a second. He just got through saying you guys have covered it longer than i have so in other words. I'm not really an expert but this is the best team of all time. Okay that we can get back to the show. I was just wonder. I was just talking to myself there. Does that make any sense. We'll must champ is helping georgia prepare for south carolina. No no. He's at georgia now. He's no longer south carolina. Remember two years ago. We'll mush chambal at an upset of those dogs. And now he works for them but he still collecting money from south carolina by the way southern cal continues to look for a new coach. He was amount about this moment. A day ago that southern california director mike bone called in clay hilton. And said you're gone. I know there's only been two games. We've seen enough. Here's ten or twelve million or whatever we owe you just get out of here as fast as possible. We'll talk about that with one of the great southern cal players of all time thirty minutes keyshawn johnson clay helton to who is going to take his place We talked a lot about it yesterday. Could be james franklin. He's got a game. This weekend and gets auburn mario cristobal. Who's been here a few times. Or maybe gus malzahn. I was just. I was i was just making that up. Jim harbaugh would. Would he be available yes he would be available. Jim harbaugh is renaming. A drill inspired to beat ohio state. He's still trying to do that. After fifty seven years in ann arbor after watching house eighteen. He might he might have a chance to here. What are we up to today. Glad you asked keyshawn. Johnson remember that book he wrote. "It's our show normal. Show just rebranded as we say in the business so we do have some reds we have to get to. Let's talk about the meaning of the word clutch and a noticeable absence from the red. Starting lineup tonight really for the last couple of weeks. But first this james payne hosted the show yesterday my gratitude for filling in yesterday as i pinch it for lance last night. He he spent some time on this. Anthony munoz was on the espn radio morning. Show keyshawn j. zubin which airs every weekday morning from six until ten. O'clock on anthony munoz. Which is awesome anthony's the best this. I'm not even sure it raised eyebrows. Maybe because of who it was coming from but they most of believed that the zac taylor is facing some pressure. This season right the term. We liked to us when we talk about a coach. Dealing with pressure is hotseat. And so i guess maybe around the country when a guy that most understands the greatest of all time at least greatest bengals player of all time uses that phrase when talking about the head coach. It's i guess at least somewhat significant you would think so in this league. We'll all know you don't win and you're on the hot seat You know this is you know. He's early in his career. But i i would think it is. I would think he is on the hot seat because he has his own guys now. I mentioned very few guys from the The last regime. We're still here. He's built his guys guys who wants But then you know the history here. head coaches have a tendency to last a little longer than other places You know regardless how well or how badly or how well they're doing so And maybe with a little change in management you know you have you know katie and troy blackburn. I think taking a little more control. Mike brown still there but Maybe their attitudes your little different with you. Know getting guys a little senior so but i. I would have a tendency with.

"Is where allies are huge. This is where the key of the world the those. Yeah king every time. I try to help trying to come on here you go. There go to pry ongo more glitter on one kid jason on him and he made the whole. So it's it's tough because as members of the community. I always think about being Because of my experience at harvard westlake and other institutions. Like that where you are. Maybe the only or one of a couple minorities in the room in anything in walks of life especially in corporate america decisions being made. If if you don't have those allies in the room things could just just go over. I mean you know for simply just shooting commercial in if somebody's not in the room that can identify and that's not right people. Just sign off on it like. Oh yeah it's the right thing to do. And then he gets out into the open marketplace and they go will. Was anybody in the room. The screen at the able to say that's not right you know and that's the same thing what you're talking about there. Is anybody in the room this able to say will. What does that mean. Can that person help us advance to where we want to be as an organization can he advance or she does can nate helpless. And that's all that matters. So i love to talk quick story a think maybe break. You've heard this story before but it it involves my brother. The warriors had a a a road game and during one of the time outs they had the kiss cam going. And at the end of the kiss cam segment. They flashed to the warriors bench and the pa announcer was saying you know. Go ahead and get a little closer. You know you wanna give him a kiss. Crowd starts laughing and then my brother is sitting there watching this and this is a gay joke at the end of the day. This is a gauge. Oh this is wrong. So the warriors and up winning the game because back then he goes up to the to the announcer and to the head of in game and says do you realize that that segment what the message is that you're sending their and that you're you're encouraging people to laugh at two men who get to. This is a joke and this is wrong. Well that announcer in that head of in game entertainment for that organization They were very dismissive of my brother. And my brother ended up. Cussing him out the law. Jared the and this is where you need allies can he told he told he's akc he goes to his boss. He's like hey. I might have done something. Steve steve was totally called. If anybody knows. Steve steve's like he's the ultimate allies. So steve was like you did what you had to do. So jaren told me about that. And this by this point i'm working for the nba and my boss I had a. I was actually in new york for meetings. And i just happen to have a meeting the next day with kathy barons. Who is a president vice president In the league president of player programs So i told her about what happened the next day. The president of that organization called my brother to apologize to him for what happened and so that that will never happen again. A few months later. I go to an event in washington. Dc and i'm speaking and there's That particular teams organization ahead of their philanthropy. Group is there. And i when they say that they work for this team. I say oh. My brother had an interesting interaction with your team recently. And that's when that person said that was your brother. Can you please thank him. Because i've been going to games and that person is a member of the community but they were hesitant to say something but because my brother and being an ally spoke up and dot person was just so thankful that my brother did that and that they didn't have to you know see that anymore while go into their job. And i think that's to a couple of things. The first thing is a allies. Shoot using your voice and platform be that sometimes when you are that minority in the group in the room you don't always feel comfortable speaking up constantly over and over again and that's again why you need those allies to third thing. The nba isn't necessarily aware of every single thing that happens in an arena but if they do find things can change very quickly and we. I think we are the most responsive league with regards to any kind of situation like that That we can instantly impact change very very quickly. So i'm very proud that our league our team that france you know ultimately you know the right thing ended up happening but it was. It took an ally using their platform in their voice to get it to happen. That's a great story this isn't a tribute to the nba. Today but the role. I do believe the answer. Your question L. zia's yes. The league organization is ready to do whatever it takes. And you know i i. I love that. I have been on a new york city. Pride float going the commissioner of the league. Gay referee Myself and others and hundreds of nba employees. I'm i'm not sure. The other leagues have replicated kind of a commitment to to inclusion diversity that the nba has. No i'm gonna feel certainly has not Gone down that track right. I mean it. Just i think in time it will come right now just. Nfl's been around. You know what sixty years we'll say over one hundred hundred and three years or something like that. You got a hundred and three years. How much more time. I just need to write it down. So i can put it on the calendar. Go down there track eventually. They'll you know how you come on man They tolerate certain things at other leagues. Wouldn't tolerate gonna think it's seen such as more of a macho sport that people look at gay as not macho will you talking about male. They just do. It's not right stupid. It's illiterate you you think about it l. z. You would.

"Here wherever listen rick. That's conversation though isn't just about the men on the field on the diamond on the court but it also extends to in the office in the c. suites of these franchises. You know you're set to retire. At the end of the season from the golden state warriors. Congratulations but once you do. Correct me if i'm wrong. Number drops back down to zero in terms of opening gate team presidents. Not to suggest that there are closeted team presidents but do you feel as if there is a clear pipeline so if someone was openly gay and wanted to be an executive for professional sports team that pipeline will be uninterrupted. The and that's the big question each of those people's asking themselves right and just because of the way. My story unfolded. I get to talk to a lot of those people who are in a position where they're not comfortable whether or not coming out in their organization is going to impede the opportunities that they have in front of them to in on the management side of sports. Just as. i would hope that jason's coming out would have spurred more players being competent taking that step. You know frankly. I'm oldest. it. Hasn't you know at mont at at the team president level done that. Certainly i think has changed dramatically. The last decade In our organizations. And i have a lot of really positive stories to tell about executives who have come out in their team organizations But not not at the presidential level and that you know again that that that is. That's a step that. I would love to see someone else. Take but it's it's the one that You know. I'm not sure about like tell one story maybe like that. I was really happy to have done what i did. You know we have. We had the incident in charlotte hadn't been awarded. Nba all star game and shortly thereafter. The state of north carolina pass this terribly. Discriminatory legislation called hp to north carolina's bathroom. Bill says people can only use the bathroom in public and government buildings that matches the sex listed on their birth certificate opponents. Call it discrimination against lgbt people supporters. Say it's about safety and the league with the i league to be put in position making a decision about should we go forward hosting the all star game in charlotte and It was it. Was you know. We love our team in charlotte. Michael jordan owns the team in charlotte You know my counterpart fred would feel the rockstar there. But we had to make a decision and we had a board of governors meeting in july in las vegas. And adam silver came over to me before and said i'm gonna let you have the last word on this and So we kind of go around the room. Everybody says that they're going to say. And adam called me and i could look at the other owners of teams and say look. I want you to have one thing in mind. I'm in contact with people in your organizations many of you who are not yet comfortable to bring their their authentic self to work and they're going to be watching and judging like based on what you decide here how you feel about inclusion how you feel about your lgbtq employees and you know proudly the they did the right thing and we didn't go to charlotte. We did go back to charlotte when the legislation was changed. You know we gotta do stuff like that we gotta we gotta take those opportunities to talk about it and make a statement and and stand up for it and i think you know for me. That was a blessing to be in a position. Where where i could have some influence there and can i just say how proud i am of rick for doing that. Just because so many of us In the community were not in the room where it happens kind of to to quote hamilton but those people who are in that room where the decisions are made for them to speak up and use their voice and rick did that on behalf of the entire community and It was huge because of nba deciding to change. That ben started the ncaa and was sort of like a chain reaction in the sports world But a lot of that in rick deserves a lot of credit for using his voice in that room. Thanks to using. That is the first step towards inclusion listening to the people in the room but the second step. The one that worries me most is happens. What is said. What are the policies put in place when they're when we aren't in the room in other words do we feel is the the nfl the nhl major league baseball the nba. Do we feel as if these leagues are prepared to make those type of decisions without having an lgbtq person in the room helping them navigate those waters so this is where allies are huge. This is where the key of the world the those. Yeah king every time. I try to help trying to come on here you go. There go to pry ongo more.

Multiple moments was in one thousand nine points over the last three games combined like a promise with field. This is this is too strong performance in the wrong direction. I don't think that there's a comeback from this for him in philly. I just don't especially you committing to joel embiid and rightfully so. The two of them occupy the same square on the floor. It just doesn't work. Yeah who can be more permanent base. That would work with an essentially joel in be point to finger of ben simmons. Yeah after the game. It's hard to get even back in that locker room With people looking at you and they calling we. Can't you know you start to doubt starts to city and strongly when you passing up opportunity to score and you give it to somebody else because for whatever reason and everybody has their own theories as to why. He struggled shooting the ball why he won't. I think it's mentally some people think he's afraid which in the end is the same thing so it's kind of like he doesn't he's skill. Steve Kerr: Kevin Durant 'More Gifted' Than Michael Jordan

"Steve. Kerr says kevin durant is more getty. Take it away. Then michael jordan so kerr coaster for three seasons as we know golden state warriors the nba finals all three years. That katie played for them. They won two titles. He was the finals. Mvp in both championships and had amazing performances. Now they could've probably pulled off a three peat if if it wasn't for durant's that that obviously achilles pop it on him against the raptors final season. Now steve kerr also play. Played with michael jordan won two titles with mj with the bulls so his perspective on this obviously is something that is interesting because he played with jordan but coach durant and listen to what he said nbc bay area about kevin durant and his comparison to jordan is the most talented basketball player on earth If not of all time. Honestly he's just so gifted played with michael jordan. And and and i know i think he's more gifted i really do. I mean it saying something but kevin is a different entirely different breed. I mean six eleven With guard skills unlimited three point range passing blocking at the rim. It's just stunning and watching him. This year was really really ratifying to see

"Story will bring back in. Involves these relationships in the nfl between coaching quarterback that we've talked about several times when you have that you know you got something special when the coach and the quarterback are on the same page when they kind of have that unity. You saw what. What tom brady. And bruce arians able to do right away You obviously see what you have in kansas. City greg's andy. Reid patrick mahomes these. These duos are very important. We thought maybe. Sean mcvay jared goff where we're going to be that power couple. They did get to a super bowl but then things broke up pretty quickly there. And sean mcvay is this guy that clearly is the excitable one out of the two right is that goes without saying so mcveigh. Listen to how he talks about how he feels about now having matthew stafford at his as his quarterback and he did this during a press conference to promote the super bowl in. La in the rams head coach. Let's just say gushed very heavy. Thank you seem like you're in a better mood aussies. You're damn right. I am so this guy He's a special guy. One of the best ways that i can describe him when you hear people that have been around him. There's a there's a known confidence where it when he walks into a room noah's field presence but he's got a great humility about himself at. Everybody loves being around him and he's one of those guys that is it true igniter makes everybody around him better. I feel like i can come up better. Coaching a few months that we've been able to spend together and we're looking forward to get things together. Sounds pretty excited about this new relationship. He's got about stafford and all he can bring in all he's already brought to the franchise what it means to him. Former Hawks Coach, Lloyd Pierce, Speaks to Importance of Remembering George Floyd

"Lloyd pierce a former hawks coach also member of the social justice coalition You know we we we. We get this all the time when it comes to whether it's sports talk radio whether it's just sports media and that is when we discuss these things it's how does that what does have to do with sports. What does it have to be part of sports. So if i asked you why is this. Why is remembering george floyd. Why is discussing the racial issues in this country equality and all those things. Why is this a sports story in your mind. Well it's it's about opportunity And it's about representation In the in the basket while. We're which i'm familiar and mostly you guys are is over. Seventy almost eighty percent of the players are african american. And you know. I think every player every sports every professional athlete will tell you you know if given the wind given the opportunity. It's an opportunity to change life to change the course of their family from a financial perspective. But really just fulfilling their their hopes and dreams This black man was killed and since he has been killed at the hands of law enforcement been two hundred and twenty five other people that have been killed in the past year. Since george floyd death and actually there's only six days in this country since march may twenty fifth. Last were person wasn't killed by law enforcement and so those opportunities were taken from people in our country and you know in our in our profession opportunity everything jay alluded to. I had an opportunity to be a head coach. it was everything for me

Why Would Jaguars Sign Tim Tebow?

"We are back final hour. It's been a fun show. We appreciate you being here. A lot of conversation with my Mike smith earlier. We also talked to dennis dodd. Another conversation predictably has been tim. Tebow we've given you a lot of reaction on that in the mike cannon bom from espn former gm jets dolphins. He's been here a couple of times. He had this to say earlier today. On keyshawn jay will and zubin about understanding the signing. I don't like it. I just don't see the upside in this move. He's thirty four years old. He would be a backup. I just don't know of thirty four year old players that can come in and be back place special teams and you're taking away a roster spot from hopefully a young developmental player that could grow with a young nucleus obviously led by trevor lawrence. And to me this is probably through the lens of urban. Meyer saying a decade. And a half ago tim tiba was the most competitive guy i've ever been around and he can help set the culture. If i was in that building what i would be pushing back saying coach. That may be true but in the nfl as you well know. Players needs to be led by players. They believed can take them to where they wanna go and as a backup tight end. I just don't think tim tebow would have that same credibility as he wants dave when he was the starting quarterback in florida. He also questioned whether tibo could even makes a team. I just don't see how he makes the team or urban and he's a really good coach he he's been historically great college but i just don't know he has to earn a spot and he's given a spot. That's gonna cause a big problem because players weren't have a chance to win and again to me just putting on my lens of a general manager and roster construction if you're not a starter in the nfl with only forty six players dressing you have to play special teams so my question. is tim. tibor thirty four years old going to cover cover kicks that remains to be seen. Now if he doesn't earn it does a totally different discussion. But i don't think you could sign him and say hey. He definitely has a spot on this team.

"With J rentals. Diversity in the coaching ranks may just be a no brainer. That's in two minutes. SportsCenter all night taking you up to Keyshawn J. Will and Zubin at the top of the hour. We have two teams to head coach is still standing in the NFL this season. Bruce Arians, Andy Reid. Incidently former Chiefs coach Todd Haley against this morning with Keyshawn J. Willens Uman over a couple hours from now just after eight o'clock eastern time. Meanwhile, there have been seven new head coaching hires in the NFL the past few weeks, including in Philly. The next bringing in Nick. Sorry, Annie. The consensus being. It's good for Nick for Carson Wentz, but They're the bad optics of the story. Not only that he was interviewed in casual vacation where, but the Eagles brass dress down so he'd feel comfortable. Then came his introductory press conference, which, if you missed it Didn't make him seem many more comfortable. Next thing that's very important to me is that we build a smart football team that we have a smart football team here, and I know we have the people in place to do that. The first part of that the first part of being smart is knowing what to do. We're gonna We're gonna know we're gonna have systems in place that Are easier to learn. Write complicated to the defense or offense that they're going against the special teams group. They're going as but easy for us to learn, because when we can put that because we when we can learn our system and we can get good at our system, then our talent can take over less thinking equals talent take over, But we need to have systems in place and we will have systems in place to do so. Couple of things at play on the heels of that, for the guys that highly questionable one The ongoing questions around NFL hirings, but also for the Eagles. Just getting books folks to buy into whatever the system is. Dominique Fox Worth is a former cornerback. That's that's hard to get behind. We talk about guys who can command a room like we always hear all this nonsense about all these Alfa male. Somebody come in there and be the Alfa of all Alphas. That ain't that dude, you know, like I feel sorry, because, like I understand being nervous and uncomfortable in front of the media, but them cameras ain't nearly as scary or as intimidating as a room full of grown men who are putting their health on the line every week to ball out for you and for them, So I'm gonna find it hard to believe that guy's going to get in there. And believe in him if he starts delivering these speeches or game plans like he just got it handed to him, like Clearly, those talking points were just handed to him. He would. They just gave those notes game I pull over and pushed him in front of cameras that read this, Eric, The enemy is at the crib. Furious right now that David Cully dude is like I'm 65 years old and I had to wait for a team to catch on fire to get my chance. His duty is hoarding. Hey, he couldn't even bother to wash.

"Rivers no rings. Former Chargers coach North Turner the reality of it is, you know, there's only one team that's gonna that's gonna win it. And, you know Philip was in an era where there was a team that won six of them over the over his 17 year career. You know, they kind of knowing it's kind of dominated, and there's a lot of things that go into it. I think till it through most of his career has played in the championship level, and sometimes it doesn't end the way you want it to. But there's no question his production and everything he's done. He's played a championship level and you can't deny you know, he spits in all time yardage. All the things the number of starts in a row. Second toe barb in that area. There's too many things that are a change of level and I know being with them 06 years and Washington compete and you know he's he's the reason we want a lot of those games. "Races. Today. It's Martin Luther King Day. Keyshawn J. Abel and Junon is presented by progressive insurance and all of our guests will join us this morning on the Goodyear Hotline. Jay I know you wanted to say something here because of what this day means to so many people. Yeah, you know, even as a young black male Martin for King, Dr Martin Luther King is somebody that's been spoken to me about. Since I've been a young boy and just as where we are today in 2021 the year that we just went through with the pandemic and social injustice. No, he did have one quote that I think is very important to kind of embrace and continue to push forward And because it's a mindset, I think this mindset is important for everybody as we try to come more together. As a country as world as a people s So even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow I still have a dream. I think this quote is so important to everyone because it says that fighting is worth fight fighting for. Right. It's it's worth the fight. It's not easy to stand out to speak your mind and to fight for what you believe in. Athletes have heard things like shut up and dribble and mentalities like that are difficult. In today and tomorrow. But if athletes continue to speak their minds keep topics at the high end of conversations. Change will come if we do battle difficulties of today and tomorrow, the ultimate dream. Hopefully continue to be reached. But that's the mindset that we have Zubin and I think facing everything hearing athletes speak out hearing people utilize their platforms standing up for what's right. As a people eyes the direction that we need to continue to push forward in today's life, You know, I don't get enough of anything in terms of the history of Dr King and in the civil rights movement. Obviously, I was born after the fact. And and so you just learned Every single day. In fact, I was even teaching my kids as we sat and watched him things last night as you continue.

"White playoff game. No, no, thanks. Center all night continues. Keyshawn J will end soon at the top of the hour. If we go back to the Western Conference semi's, the Lakers have now won six straight against the Rockets to 1 17 100 win last night in Houston Lakers have won those six straight games over the Rockets by an average of 14 points per game. As for the current situation in Houston, Getting any better. James Harden after the game last night, saying he doesn't think the situation can be fixed, and he's done everything he can. Which is not good enough chemistry telling lies just Everything and it was clear. Like I said, these last few games from the beginning of the game. We just aggressive, picturing team, obviously chairmanship team and, you know, one of the best things that we have in this, Lee. I love this city. I literally have done everything that I can I mean, the situation is this is crazy. It was something that I don't think you'd be fixed so Thanks. James Harden. Disgruntled Kyrie Irving. Kind of tough to characterize it. Some have called it a wall. Either way he misses 1/4 straight game last night. Nets wind up winning thanks to Kevin Durant. But Kyrie still not with the team video showing him in a family birthday gathering without a mask. And then last night within a half hour of nets tip off a social media posts from a candidate for district attorney in Manhattan showing Kyrie taking part in a virtual fundraiser. Earlier on Spain and Fitz are Jason fits at some point. When have you lost benefit of the doubt? It's a little bit of the way Kyra he's been in the past. It's a little way that Kyra has been in the recent. It's a little of the way the Kyrie is acting in these videos that are now everywhere with him dancing around and look, I get it. His sister turns 30, he's you know, Brazilian there and he wants to go out and party with her toe to celebrate the moment. I understand that human element And, frankly, is much is but for me personally, I would never take that risk. I gotta be very clear about that. In a covert world. He has different obligations as part of Ah, Union that is part of the MBA. He has different obligations. He has certain expectations on how he will act and for him to sort of be flippant about that, at the same time, while he's going through whatever is keeping him away from his team, But not telling anybody anything. I mean, you stack all of these bricks up and that's how you get the Lego Castle here, and it's not any one thing for Kyrie. It's all of them. How should a franchise be handling the situation? And what's the front office doing in a situation like James Harden's in Houston? At this point, our front office insider Bobby Marks is here in about 45 minutes. 6 40 Eastern time He will join Keyshawn J. Will And zoom in right now. SportsCenter all night, Kyrie. Irving's returned to the Nets could be in the hands of the MBA. It will determine if there are any protocols that have been violated and thus required quarantine. As for the protocols, the MBA tweaking them yesterday with an agreement with the Players Association because we've had a flare up here's R. J. Williams, the new normal and we've been dealing with it with every sport. I think that the MBA was gonna find a cozy Light hearted way of getting through. This whole thing is not realistic. You're gonna have injuries that are gonna go up. You're gonna have a lot of players that are playing. I mean, look at the Bogdanovich injury. I mean, there's been a lot of injuries that occur because the guy's been playing extreme minutes. You two people know Marco folks, I think the league is gonna have to get a little bit more innovative. Here. Maybe you carry more guys on the roster. You guys more available at the G leak state. Maybe you have to increase the size of the roster because I think it's going to be an uneven playing level. That's what this year is gonna be like when No one in 76 years come back and they're fully voted. When he gets a depleted team. That's what it is. It's gonna hurt ratings. But that's the reality we live in. And That is what 2021 is gonna be about as well. Okay, well with Keyshawn and Zubin this morning. Well, of course weigh in on the reaction to what the MBA is doing. We've had teams with their games postpone, including tonight's matchup for the Celtics and Magic. Okay, well, mentioning the Sixers. They played short handed last night for a third straight game. And on the second night of a back to back on top of that there, too available point guards fouled out Ben Simmons and Tyreese Maxie. They still had one guy to turn to Joe runs to the ball. Danny Green looking goes into indeed and beat has it against a Chua. He shoots a top of the key shot up good with three seconds ago. It be ties the game at 120. So, yeah, Short handed back to back games, and now they go to overtime ate tissue to be with the right hand dribble cups. It.

We're going to get to a Super Bowl champion international champion and a J Hawk here in just one minute for the Ohio State side of things, fellas. I want you to just step back and everybody listening. Step back and think about this for one second to accentuate the greatness of saving unlike anything else, J. How many years did you play it, Duke? 33. And of course you were a national champion Key. How many years you play? It s C essentially How many years did you play before you went to the NFL to two? Here we go. You ready for this? Every single player Nick Saban has been Alabama's coach for 14 years, every single player That has spent three years in the program if you are a three year Alabama player under Nick Saban, You have a title ring? Geez, think about. Let me say that again. If you spend three years any three years playing for Nick Saban and Alabama, you were three year guy, every single one of those guys. As a national championship ring. Let that marinate for a second day. I mean, you played exactly three years and your a national champion. But imagine just doing that over and over and over and over again. I just I'm letting that sinking because over the span of anybody's career that is so hard to do. So hard to do. And the fact is, I mean, they've had these two undefeated teams he's had. I mean, Derek, Emory and company was on one and now this team, obviously, you know, last night Is just to sustain that type of level of success. You know, It's one of the things that we hate to see dynasties because we love to break them down. But just understanding like my record in college over three years was not. I was 95 13 lost 13 games in my three years 10 too many Yeah, There were a couple games that we lost that we should have one key, and I remember the games I lost. Here's what my college experiences. I walk away from college. Not thinking about Big a national championship champion, even though I do Thinks more. So about my freshman year we lost to Florida that lost in a national championship game for Michigan State. My junior year we lost the Indiana that lost in a national champs. Your game to Maryland, a team we'd be twice that year. That's how I remember. Marco's career. That's how Coach K has ingrate himself into my mind about and I don't me wrong. I'm really happy when the chips have been, But it's more about the opportunity that you missed because you felt like you were better that you didn't That's the That's the mentality. That's the mindset. You should have played better man. I know I should have played better. That's the problem. 95 13 and asked, did more J. But assuming that's the mindset that a lot of these guys have, right, you're talking more so about the ones you miss more so than the ones you want. Indeed, that's why you guys have that the standard in the level of excellence is incredible. Hard for us to fathom. This is not hard for many to fathom. It's been a very trying tumultuous year for Ohio State. We aren't going to play. The conference is laying back now we are playing. We're playing six games. People are doubting us. Do we deserve to be in there? We defeat Clemson. We're not getting respect by Clemson's coach. We could possibly be 60 minutes away from winning a championship after our league said, We may not play. All of it took a toll on Ryan Day and his 85. We need a break. We need to get away. Kids are the guys on his team need to see their families. We all just need a break. And, you know, we've already started to put together the the schedule for the spring, but but we all need to get away for a while. This has been a long long road. Guys, Mr Families and And they deserve time to be with them. And so we'll unwind. For what little while having opportunity reflect on what this season's been and then get back into it, But you can't just go back to work here. There needs some time to rest. And reflect unless you're next, Dave, and then you go right back to work. Let's bring in a J. Hawk, the two time national while he's the national champion, is a Super Bowl champion. He's a podcast host. He's literally done everything. He was a two time all American. For the Buckeyes. We're going to get into your Packers here in just a little bit big spot on divisional weekend, but let's start with your Buckeyes. What was the difference last night? I mean, I don't know. I guess that played Alabama. Alabama's offense will be pretty unstoppable, but they're, uh, what released amount.

"Doug Peterson has been fired as the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. When it looks like you're not compete at the end of the season, when it seems that you've given up on your team, I just think a total failure by this team. Peterson was 40 to 37 1, in his five seasons included a pair of division titles and the Super Bowl Championship of the Eagles went 4 11 and one this season. All kinds of hiccups at the quarterback position between Carson wins and Jalen Hurts. At the beginning of December, Doug Peterson was asked about his relationship with Philly owner Jeffrey Lori. Relationship is good. We communicate a lot throughout the week. We have our our typical weekly meeting and cover a lot of ground, but that relationship is good. The relationship Doug Peterson had with his owner may not have been as solid as he thought. Peterson fired on Monday. ESPN Sal Paolantonio was in Philly. I think it's a mixture of shock and sadness. This is a sad day in the history of Philadelphia sports, that you would part ways with the first and only coach to bring a Super Bowl title to bring a championship parade. You gotta understand. The Philadelphia Eagles are not just a sport in this town. They are a way of life. And this town suffered through decades and decades without a championship, and Doug Peterson did the best coaching job in franchise history. Laura he lost. His quarterback is starting middle linebacker. His starting left tackle is best special Teams player, and then he went on to beat the dynasty in the Super Bowl. Now, the Peterson's Gone is firing may increase the chances of quarterback Carson Wentz staying in Philly. ESPN insider Adam Schefter still think it's a major question mark heading into the offseason. And I think the first thing we need to know is who is going to be the head coach and had his he feel about the quarterbacks that Philadelphia has still think that there's a part of Carson Wentz that would like to move on and start over no matter what, but again now there are a number of factors that have to be settled before we can get clarity on that particular subject. Clearly with Doug Peterson leaving it doesn't hurt. Carson wins his chances of staying in Philadelphia. Well, you have to see how much those chances are actually helped. And I think a lot of that will be determined by the man that the Eagles higher to succeed Doug Peterson. We'll see where the Eagles go from here, Rise and grind with Keyshawn J will and Zubin much more on the situation in Philadelphia as well as of course.
