"Stop blast this and yeah, it does at first blush sound pretty impressive. It wouldn't have been tweeted if the account owner didn't think it was impressive. So should we actually say wow about this one? Yeah, this is definitely one where I read it and I had no idea this could have been a record or it could have been absolutely nothing and it turns out it's closer to absolutely nothing than a record. So not surprisingly lots of pictures have struck out at least one active manager. In any given year, going back the last ten or 20 years, there's something like 30 to 60 pitchers who have done it at least once. But 6 is getting up there, but it happens still fairly regularly. I found about 550 or so player seasons using play by play data. So that's not every season ever. But most recent seasons that have done this exact thing where they've struck out 6 or more of the active managers. So about ten every season give or take that have done 6 or more. Definitely not super common, but not all that rare either. So I went back through and found the most recent examples of more than 6, so for 7, we have CC Sabathia in 2018. He struck out Mike matheny, Aaron Boone, AJ Hinch, Joe mcewing, Gabe Kepler, Alex Cora and Kevin cash, the caveat there is good old Joe was a temporary manager. He stepped in when Rick renteria of the White Sox was sick. So if you don't really want to count that because he was only a manager for a couple of games, it would be Randy wolf in 2015 was the most recent exactly 7. Also CC Sabathia actually one year later in 2019, we add in rod barajas, Chris Woodward and Rocco bell Delhi, but lose Mike matheny, who also lost his job. Again, though, rod barajas enter a manager. So maybe this is the most recent true 7 rather than 8. 9, we have to go back to 2005 with Roger Clemens, he had struck up 9 major league managers that were active that year. And ten is where we really start getting into rare form. There's only been ten ever player seasons that had ten active managers struck out by that picture. Most recently, Charlie huff and John candelario in 1993, there have been 8 11s, most recently goose gossage in 1994, and there have been four 12s who are getting pretty up there in numbers with Jesse Roscoe in 2002. And then finally we get to the top 5, there's been 5 player seasons ever with more than 12 strikeouts of active managers. We have Burt bly Levin in 1992 with 13, as well as Gus gossage in 1992 with 13. Nolan Ryan, same year, probably a trend there 1992 with 13 gossage 1993 with 15 and finally leading the list is Nolan Ryan, not all that surprising, 1993. He had struck out 16 of the 30 active managers that led teams that year at some point in his career. Just kind of an unbelievable stat there more than half technically it was exactly half because the reds had two managers that season and he had stuck up both of them. Tony Perez and David Johnson. So at any given time, half of the teams were led by a manager who had been struck out by Nolan Ryan at some point in their career. Well, I guess if you had to guess who was the leader, he would have been up there pitching into his mid 40s at a high level and striking out a ton of batters and I guess that must have been an era maybe when a number of managers were younger or recently retired players. In fact, Nolan Ryan's manager that year was Kevin Kennedy, who was several years younger than Nolan Ryan was, as I recall from a past stat last about Ali marmo and players who were way older than their managers, though Kennedy was a career minor leaguer, so he was not struck out in the majors by Nolan Ryan, but that makes this cranky stat sound extremely unimpressive, like not even worth tweeting. It sounds good. But all time, you gotta stick a one in front of the 6 there. And then it's actually a record. So it's one of those that can be kind of misleading, I guess. It's just that it's not unimpressive, but in context, once you actually do the work. It's not that special. Yeah, you just have to strike out 10,000 over the course of 60 seasons, and you'll do it yourself too. No sweat. All right, this is something I spotted on Reddit and asked you about because someone on this Reddit thread said this better be a stat blast on effectively wild soon. And we don't take orders from Reddit necessarily, but we do take requests. So this was prompted by a 16 pitch plate appearance between Anthony Santander and royals pitcher Taylor Clark. And I've always been fascinated by long plate appearances. The one that was interesting about this, which is the longest at bat or played appearance so far this season is that it did not go to a full count. So the questioner wanted to know what is the longest plate appearance in terms of number of pitches that did not go to a full count. And as always, with pitch by pitch data, we're talking about since 1988 since that's when it really started comprehensively. Yeah, that's right. Someone put up the stats signal and it was seen far and wide. So we actually have two at bats tied for the record in this stat, which is actually 18. You may remember just a few years ago, Brandon Belt set the record with, I believe, 21, but that did go to a full count. So two plate appearances reached 18 pitches without getting to a full count. So the first was may 18th, 1997, within a royals tigers game, and bit Roberts, great name, faced Felipe lira, that and he had the following sequence in his at bat. So he had a foul ball, a called strike, and a ball, and then one, two, three, four, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, ten consecutive foul balls, followed by another ball, three more foul balls, and then finally a ground out for the 18th pitch. One interesting point here, though, that if an 18 pitch at bat wasn't interesting enough, it makes it even more interesting, is both of the balls were pitch outs, including the second one, which was thrown on an attempted stolen base, so there was a throw down to second. And there were also 7 pick offs in this plate appearance. So in total, I guess you could say that's actually 27 balls thrown in this plate appearance all to get one ground out. So really working overtime there, both catcher, pitcher, everyone around. Just to finally get a normal ground out. Yeah. And we actually still have the second one as well. Alex Cora, may 12th, 2004, also at an 18 pitch up at also ended interestingly enough for a different reason. So he started off the count with a ball called strike and ball, very normal two one count. Then decided to hit 14 consecutive foul balls in a row, and then a two run Homer on the 18th pitch. Wow. So that is a tough go for the pitcher there. Just could not get him out and then it come back to Biden in the worst possible way to run Homer. Ended up winning four to nothing anyway, so the two runs didn't really matter all that much. But quite the ending there. That's pretty good. And 17 has happened twice also. You noted 16 has happened 15 happened ten times. Russell carleton did some research about 15 years ago. I don't know why I remember these things where he looked at what happens with each subsequent foul in a plate appearance. If the count isn't

"Playoffs. I think that makes a difference here because now you've got Gordon Jiang. There you've got Collins that can do that. And then hopefully a call will capella both are ready to go sooner island later. All right, Brooklyn, this is a prime example of the roster shuffling that happens at the end. And they had signed Bryce Brown and Josh gray. Both of them waved almost immediately and then they brought in Jordan bowden and Brandon Rahal. And those two guys are coming in and they're going to take in the they're all designed to get to the Long Island nets. Of the G league there. Chicago Bulls, wave Daniel turu, who could maybe show a little bit of stuff there and Ethan Thompson, waved out of there. These ones are a little bit more interesting. I think on a Cleveland, beyond a common gala. I think we all thought had some potential as a former first round pick by the clippers and shown a little bit. He got waived by the Cavs and the Broderick Thomas, who had shown some stuff in summer league this past year, and he was on a two way with Cleveland last year was on another two way. He's been believed. So Cavs have a lot of guys. They're kind of picking from the back end of that roster. The Denver Nuggets, we already talked about Matt Ryan, getting waved and returning back to the Atlanta Falcons. And then Giorgio or I keep want to call him Giorgio. It's Georgie, but hanash really, that was good. I was really good. He is he's out of Illinois. He bought these guys set up to go to the Grand Rapids gold of the G league, which is the nuggets new G league affiliate. We talked Terence me, and we talk sacred and boya. Milwaukee Bucks way of Johnny O'Brien, who returned after a few years of overseas, and they resigned gemara Jones Jones. No, you know, him he's a former leader once upon a time. Good rebounder. Yeah, yeah, he's got really good after. He's a tough kid. He's kind of your standard G league guy. He's pretty good in the G league, but he's just not good enough to cut it in the MBA. But they're bringing him back in. We'll see what happens with O'Brien. I don't know necessarily show up in the G league because he's made a lot of money overseas and looked a little bit better, but if his real goal is to get back to the NBA, maybe he does take, take that path. We'll see the New York Knicks we have Tyler hall, re signed miles Powell policies in the hall guy, big time scorer in college. He is going to go both of them ultimately land with Westchester and the G league. The thunder waved rob Edwards. There's a guard. They signed and then waved Jalen horn. I put that one out while we were recording as well. So just pulling double duty here. The Orlando Magic Jeremiah Tillman was waived. They re signed them in Kennedy. Kevin Kennedy was interesting. He was, if you remember at the end of last season, the magic tag no point guards left. Everybody was injured and Kennedy was going to get a bunch of minutes for them. And then he came from every sprained or if it was one of those brains where a better off if he'd broken his ankle. He got hurt, and now he is out for back rather with the magic to get another round. But he'll be with the Lake when magic in the G league. And then the spurs, did we talk about them waving Lucas samanic? No, I don't believe we don't. And we did it. So that one's definitely a surprise because that's a former first round pick by this burger, so they waved him here in year three. So obviously when that happens too, just like if they were sacred to moia when the nets will ultimately the rockets I guess leave them. That fourth year team option is considered declined as well. If it's a player option, the player is the right before the waiver to pick it up, they always do, because when they take that money, but yeah, so Samanage wave that one's a little odd to me because I thought he kind of shown some stuff by spurs are they had to eat at least two guaranteed salaries and some monitors the first one. Yeah, I mean, that's certainly a bit of a surprise. I mean, we talked about all these different moves that are going to be coming from NBA teams. That in and of itself is not that much of a surprise that there's all this roster shuffling going on right now, but I am a little bit surprised about Samanage. I didn't think that he was, I thought he was going to be a guy that would stick around and I guess this first thought otherwise. Yeah. Yeah. He'll pop up somewhere. I'm guessing. So someone is going to bring him in some rebuilding team that could use a big with some just to give you guys a little inside info here. No, there's no earthquake going on. My daughter who thinks that she's that she's a ninja successfully been able to stay off camera, but apparently not enough to not move my camera while she is ninja around on the floor and everything. So yeah, just the perils of recording with a 5 year old in the room. And as it got noticeably darker for me, it just we have one of our floored afternoon thunderstorms rolling in. So yeah, yeah, that's yeah, we're both. That's right. Some stuff. We're working through it though. We're working hard for you guys. But yeah, these I know it feels like some of these moves are a lot of more so on Twitter, we get a lot of what all those things. But these things do matter. There's a reason why these teams do these things because they want to keep these guys in their system. So when you see that they signed a wave somebody, it doesn't mean that they're just goofing around to get rid of the guy. They're bringing them in because they really want to have them be a part of the program, if you will, have them be part of it. So here we are with this time of year and there's still tons more of my plan for tomorrow. If you follow me on Twitter, which if you don't please make sure you do Keith Smith NBA. Yeah, I mean as it says on the screen. And I will do a running dread of where each team is at roster wise and all that stuff. If I have time to sounds good, we'll be looking out for that. Anything else we need to get into today before we call it a rap? Sam amic were reported that the sixers have no interest in trading for Kyrie Irving at them all at the moment. I like that little thing in there. No interest at the moment. Oh wait, it's too minutes later. Okay, now at this moment we do have mentioned, right? So that's okay. It's nothing until it's something there. But yeah, I'm not expecting Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons to swap places, even though it would seem to solve problems for both teams. Yeah, but not going to happen. All right, everybody. Make sure you do subscribe right here to the NBA front office show. Again, we've got a lot of fun stuff playing once the season does start up, which is coming, where a week away from the official kick-off of the regular season. So we've got a lot going on. Make sure you subscribe, don't forget to turn on notifications as well. Go follow Keith on Twitter at Keith Smith and be a he's obviously going to have a big, big thread coming out and hopefully tomorrow fingers crossed. And if you guys want to follow me as well, well, you're mostly getting inundated by Lakers propaganda. But if you want to follow me as well, you can follow me at trebor underscore lane. Oh, hey, I wore you can't really see it, but I wore this shirt for you today. It says, we beat LA. Yeah, I wore that for you, but then it was cold in here. So at they're on my pole. Well, thank you. I appreciate you covering that up. Yeah, no problem. You know what? That's better than the atrocious hoard alternate jerseys the Celtics on today. They're freaking awful, and I hate them. So I'm gonna sound like old man yelling at cloud, but can we please just go back to you where your home jerseys at home your road jerseys on the road for the Lakers you wear your Sunday whites? And then throw in a few alternates every now and then. Can we just do that? Special Christmas ones. Yeah. Yeah, I don't mind the black ones, I think they're kind of sharp. If you want to wear those, but not, it shouldn't be that you're splitting this season between wearing each of them four different times or yes. This has been Trevor and Trevor and Keith beat. That's right. That's right. All right, everybody. Well, here it's about four 20..

"We'll be the robot in east saucerful as as play in the manga Some of these things have been sort of removed in light of tell us because they were copyright infringements. But some at the time you know in japan you get away with a lot of stuff so he and pull stuffing because he looked it off too i think but he He stayed in name. James cameron and these fights and james wants to buy the rights to action animated adaption over the movie. Uh of the mango. Into which i an ordinance and you keita's been quoted the site. I couldn't exactly say no. He's my hero games to that He speaks quoted as saying million dollars but he was. You know being interviewed. And he's he's actually quite the introvert so he does struggle a little bit when he's being interviewed and he meets said dolans but he may in so it's a hundred times last So it was about ten thousand. Us stolas at the time. I think for the riots. Was those now union or something like that so yeah he got. Some money wasn't huge but some of course closes in these sorts of things. Where if you don't do something with percent amount of time about defaults back and i do believe recently. listing copyright more has been changed so After fifties default back anyway in voided after fifties and returns to the original creator. Okay so yeah. There's been a lot of controversy about that. A uso guy when it came in Things like terminator and stuff like that to full to back to cameron got the rights. Back out so he tweets for then became ex. Wife feels control of it. But i can bring in stuff. It was kind of weird. But anyway that all outside the we didn't get any more because of that And watch reside with these knee and unless they decide to find it out to a a main to house. Like mad house madhouse with great anime I don't know that we'll be seeing more unless Well what we understand. Is that the live. Action rights are controlled by cameron the disney wanted to do a a series on disney. Plus they start or whatever it happened to be for a more mature version if say one of my action cameron controlling creative rights but they could do an animated version to disney plus. So we might. We may see something like that. But then they'd have they'd have creative control and that could be a problem could be vanilla version of a alita. That would go by. I don't know i. I don't think i want to see that. The thing is disney is a huge based and very positive very woken other positive like the the line is in control. He's all about store and guess which beats making the money. So i'm hoping that disney will stop sort of moving back towards story. A who message makes money. Let's do it like that and make the money. Because they've been suffering for code they damn billions oxen bear Cruise lines and everything. So you need to make some money. They get an eximbank and they should be looking at the cia to check. Who's in control of everything. He's he's a dollas and saint sky so he's not so much about social justice messaging. He's about making the thing. Look so hopefully. We'll look at the people who are making the money you get your do your thing because it makes the money. That's what i'm hoping. So there's there's some things up in the day but we could see something animated to leave a bit. Obviously the live action stuff using the control of cameras fires on the way. Yeah we will see cameron. If you're listening please. We're waiting. Kevin kennedy lumps he's He's leader. I'm sure it's why he didn't just leave it. He does a lot of very on on poi- some analyses of smoothies and story time he's a writer as well. He's got his own series of books. Critical drink out very very interesting. He's got so hot one and a half million Subscribers on youtube but he's He's good he's on. Opinions agree with a lot of them some of them. I don't agree with in general He looks at these things and analyze them on the basis of what works. And what doesn't work and that's where he will one of storytelling ever mace h h. He's fine as long as it doesn't advertise storytelling. So i'm sorry about that. But it's it's super important for actual is true. I mean from not. There's not really a recent remember the movie by which is the story behind. We story tell always stories touch you messages. Don't touch messages. Just hang on your head turned to get you to take them off is true issue. That's dull content. And i mean i kind of get an away. How defense the i original material feel feel the same way. Somebody wanted to grab any talking. Stories make an animated series or something and put something that is nowhere to be founding. Any other books you know you mean you mean like the the hobbit trilogy whole point. I like you have the hallway trilogy. And it's very short book and they still didn't put many of the things. They changed the way they happen. The same thing podcast on the lord of the rings down was done right and it was done wrong compare and contrast and of that there was a lot of stuff that was left out in the low of the rings like they will gonna sing major about the for example. "Need an expert, help navigate the home loan process, know that your pals that rocket can thank Bob Nightingale for hopping on board with me. Always. Good to catch up with him. He knows his stuff inside it out. He's connected and always has a first rate information. Um, any gave us a cool Tommy Lasorda story. I could tell you. Probably I could take you for the next 2025 minutes and just tell you, Tommy was store Tommy Lasorda story after Tommy Lasorda story, Um, got to know him well enough around people that worked quite close to him. For many a year. Um, I contemplated corn. Kevin Kennedy, who was a bud, Do you've heard you're on CBS Sports radio play time because he's a friend of mine. And I know he knew Tommy quite well because he came up Buddha died your system and it's been dyed your broadcast over many years, Um, after his managerial days were over and done with But he was always a dodgy even though he never managed the Dodgers. He was a Dodger right in his heart because I was a team. He played poor and then moved back to l A and did broadcasting stuff for them. Um I just give you my two favorite Dodger, Tommy Lasorda Lasorda stories of all time. And they both absolutely have to do it. My father because he was Quite friendly, but my father, he knew me as Joe Max, son, Little Mac. He would call me. Um I don't know that he knew my name was Cody. He certainly did at a later date. When I got to know Tommy, before I ever moved to Philadelphia, back when I was living in New York and doing shows on New York And when I worked for ESPN and going down to spring training, um to hang with my father, uh, was the first that I got a chance to, uh, encounter which Tommy. Then I moved to, uh, Philadelphia just outside. I'm over on the Jersey side. Um, but I was on the air in photo obvious starting in 1990. And Tommy is from North Town, which is a suburb of Philadelphia. Shoot. Can't be 45 miles over the city limit right out on off Scougall Expressway, and they've got some really good. Restaurants and places where you could get an adult beverage in north staff. Right next door to contract in which is the same kind of sub sub suburb town. Good restaurants. Good places get An adult beverage. Um, but I Tommy's family still lives in north him. So his brother and his sister And I think, even said once his mom ah, bunch of the Lasorda's became fans with Jodi McDonald on the radio in Philadelphia, even though they were Dodger fans because Tommy worked for the Dodgers. It was ah, familiarity with the Phillies, and they enjoyed Philadelphia and photo. Pure sports. Talk s o. They were fans of mine. So I remember Tommy, tell me once. Man. My family tells me you're the best time telling Bye Bye Bye. Bye. Bye bye. And that's what I think he started to call me Jody, because that's what his brother's, uh, called me because they listen to Jodi back on the radio and Philadelphia. They stopped calling me little Mac at one point, But, um, two times I got to hang with Tommy when I was with my dad. We were Had a spring training game. The My father was working for the Tigers of time in Lakeland. And the Dodgers were coming over from Dodgertown, Vero Beach. This was well before they had moved out to their new home in Arizona, Die just trade trained forever. In Florida, and we're a beach there complex was one of the best in all of baseball was called Dodgertown. Well, this wasn't dyed it down. This was at Lakeland. So we'll, uh, Tommy comes in and he's taken batting practice. Whatever. So my father's got seats behind home plate. To be able to watch balls and strikes to watch pictures movement in the light. So we sit in the scouts second 45 rows off the screen. Pretty much down the center aisle Couple seats in one way or the other. I remember with left side right side of the aisle, but in the seats that a row here or roll there a seat here a seat there always sit in when I sat my father ready game. Well, let's sort of knows my father's at the game. So he gets word through is bad boy to tell the usher in my father's row that he needs to talk to him. The game is ongoing. They've already started the game. And Tommy's Like waving to my father. He stands outside the dugout as my father's behind the screen, and he's like waving them over. So my father says, All right, come on, come with me. So we walk over to the Dodger dugout. And there were two seats just to the right of the Dodger dugout. I don't know if Tommy got him cleared ahead of time or that they just happen to be open or that he had talked to the, uh Asher, who was working that row, but he gets the two seats closest. The Dodger dugout. First row. Uh, this wasn't even covered by the screen. Today's Major League Baseball. Yes. These seats would've been covered by the screen, not the case. This is 25 30 years ago. Um, suddenly sort. It comes out of the dugout and he's got a foldable chair under his arm, So he takes the chair and he props it right back against the wall. Right in front of the seats..

"I know you've got a lot of feelers in the state Legislature and In Wisconsin. The You know a lot of these folks. Personally. What is your sense of the level of urgency among the Republicans that dominate both chambers that election reform is high on their agenda? Urgent from some not so much from others, and that's the problem. But I can tell you this right before the holidays had a conversation with state representative General Branch and Republican from the nominee falls. She is the incoming chair of the states. Campaigns and elections committee and she has said she is committed to a more hearings. Maurin vesting Gatien into the the election. But Morris show than that She is committed to an audit of the election, and that's a much bigger deal. Um, she's the chair, so she'll have more weight in that consideration. But let's see if Republican leadership is on board in terms of the urgency because certainly their grassroots conservatives are on board. I mean, Dave, I mean, Tony Iverson could be the one to stand in the doorway of the polling place and protect elections. That a lot of Wisconsin I believe. Are not conducted fairly. That can happen. I think they Republicans in the state Legislature should be putting bills on his desk and make him make him use his veto on this, For sure, The big bugaboo is male in Valerie, That's that's the thing that was the absolute foundation. It was the clay in which any sort of cheating was was sculpted. Does that change in the state of Wisconsin? No excuse mail in balloting? No, it doesn't change because if they got away with it, they knew early on that this is a covert, though I mean Sure that was the boogeyman that again, Ben mentioned that Republicans were caught flat footed, two quick points. A They were going to do mail in balloting from the very beginning because what was the first thing that Tony Evers proposing this covert relief bill back in back in March? Basically, you don't have to show a photo. I d. You have to show a photo idea their way of getting around this before we knew what Cole would actually Woz where Republicans. The bases so frustrated is everybody knew this was happening. And since the Republicans were so flat footed in Do anything about it. That's the frustration is whether or not Trump won or lost will never know the fact that they didn't do anything about it. Not more laws because you could get around whatever new laws go on the books. Sure, Tony Evers convene to whatever bill comes out of the assembly and Senate in 2021. Even if it was past, they'll just find another way. It's like playing chess to get around whatever's on the books. You talk about covert being a virus. This is like a virus that you need malware for to prevent. But you can't prevent something That hasn't happened yet. Biggest wet blanket attitude I've ever heard, in essence, what you're saying it's inevitable that these elections are not going to be conducted fairly, regardless of any sort of legislative or former oversight. That's basically your position correct until the Republicans because Republicans haven't done anything about it. I'm not saying that's a good way to move forward to govern. But until they actually stand up and try to figure out what the game plan is going to be ahead of time, outmaneuver the Democrats. You're right. This is the result of good Be social media With me Get Craig Social Media is a good way of gauging sort of taking the temperature off where everybody is. Would you say that the level of frustrated in among conservatives with regard to their perception of how this election that just in Wisconsin but across the country how this election was conducted? Do you think that is that that the anger is mitigated somewhat about the same as it was right after the election or increased? I think it's increased, and I think the big term now I think was two words. Two words. Term limits. I think if we start talking about term limits, then you know these guys that are we got six years you six year terms halfway through their already We're looking for the next election. So term limits, I think is the answer. And I've been saying that a lot on social media. It's very rare that politicians elected legislate themselves out of out of a job. Matt. The Wisconsin Election Commission here in the state is an absolute Mets mess, and the fact of the matter is that the state Republican Party owns it. They passed legislation of Republican governor Assigned it. Is there any appetite for meaningful restructuring of the W E C. Now see, that's the real issue here. The overarching issue is that we do have laws on the books. We do have voter integrity laws. They're just not informed. They're not followed. We saw that Milwaukee. We saw that in Dane County and no matter how much the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Associated Press and the rest of the mainstream Wants to paint the picture that Oh, these conspiracy theorists from the right We do know this. Wisconsin Elections Commission in 2016 decided on its own staff members did And then you had the usual suspects on this bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission follow suit. They just followed. With staff members did again, I hasten to point out many of those staff members were involved in the John Doe investigations that crippled this state. Theon Constitutional John Doe investigation So You have the same people they're working to get around the state laws that were put in place by Republican majorities. The short answer to your question is, If there is going to be reform real reform, it has to start by demanding That there be changed at the Elections Commission and that the laws are followed. And if the laws aren't followed. Here's the bottom line for conservatives across this state and anybody have an independent mind really watching it. Then somebody has to be held accountable.
